Due to a lack of technologies that harvest green and sustainable energy, unutilized compressed air energy during the operation of pneumatic systems is wasted. Liquid–solid triboelectric nano-generators (L-S TENGs) have been widely used as an advanced technology with broad development prospects due to their advantages of a simple structure and long service life. Among them, liquid–solid triboelectric nanogenerators with tube structures have great potential for coupling multiple physical effects and integrating them into a single device. Herein, a U-shaped tube triboelectric nanogenerator composed of fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) and copper foil (UFC-TENG) is proposed to directly harvest unutilized compressed air energy. The UFC-TENG can collect unutilized compressed air energy with a stable peak voltage and current of approximately 33 V and 0.25 μA, respectively. When the alternating frequency of the liquid is 0.9 Hz, the unutilized compressed air can drive the UFC-TENG unit with an inner diameter of 12 mm, achieving a maximum output power of 3.93 μW at an external load resistance of 90 MΩ. The UFC-TENG is a novel driving method for L-S TENGs and demonstrates the promising potential of TENGs in the harvesting of unutilized compressed air energy in pneumatic systems. With the increasing utilization of bolted ball joint steel mesh structures in offshore floating platforms and deep-sea fish cages, the issue of seawater infiltrating the joints and members through the installation gaps of the bolted ball joint, leading to subsequent corrosion, has become increasingly prominent. This article presents an innovative method to improve the sealing performance of bolted ball joints. The approach involves creating sealed surfaces within the contact gaps between the sleeve and connecting components by adding circular grooves and sealing washers to both ends of the sleeve. Subsequently, a two-dimensional finite element analysis model of the bolted ball joint with the sealing structure was created using SOLIDWORKS 2021 and ANSYS Workbench 2022 R1. The study analyzes the sealing gasket's contact pressure at various compression levels and evaluates its performance with bubble tests for air tightness. Research results show a linear relationship between the contact pressure and compression rate, achieving sealing pressures of 2.91 MPa, 4.22 MPa, and 5.95 MPa at compression levels of 8%, 11%, and 14%, respectively. Particle counting serves as a pivotal constituent in diverse analytical domains, encompassing a broad spectrum of entities, ranging from blood cells and bacteria to viruses, droplets, bubbles, wear debris, and magnetic beads. Recent epochs have witnessed remarkable progressions in microfluidic chip technology, culminating in the proliferation and maturation of microfluidic chip-based particle counting methodologies. This paper undertakes a taxonomical elucidation of microfluidic chip-based particle counters based on the physical parameters they detect. These particle counters are classified into three categories: optical-based counters, electrical-based particle counters, and other counters. Within each category, subcategories are established to consider structural differences. Each type of counter is described not only in terms of its working principle but also the methods employed to enhance sensitivity and throughput. OsMADS1 plays a vital role in regulating floret development and grain shape, but whether it regulates rice grain quality still remains largely unknown. Therefore, we used comprehensive molecular genetics, plant biotechnology, and functional omics approaches, including phenotyping, mapping-by-sequencing, target gene seed-specific RNAi, transgenic experiments, and transcriptomic profiling to answer this biological and molecular question. Here, we report the characterization of the 'Oat-like rice' mutant, with poor grain quality, including chalky endosperms, abnormal morphology and loose arrangement of starch granules, and lower starch content but higher protein content in grains. The poor grain quality of Oat-like rice was found to be caused by the mutated OsMADS1Olr allele through mapping-by-sequencing analysis and transgenic experiments. OsMADS1 protein is highly expressed in florets and developing seeds. Both OsMADS1-eGFP and OsMADS1Olr-eGFP fusion proteins are localized in the nucleus. Moreover, seed-specific RNAi of OsMADS1 also caused decreased grain quality in transgenic lines, such as the Oat-like rice. Further transcriptomic profiling between Oat-like rice and Nipponbare grains revealed that OsMADS1 regulates gene expressions and regulatory networks of starch and storage protein metabolisms in rice grains, hereafter regulating rice quality. In conclusion, our results not only reveal the crucial role and preliminary mechanism of OsMADS1 in regulating rice grain quality but also highlight the application potentials of OsMADS1 and the target gene seed-specific RNAi system in improving rice grain quality by molecular breeding. A bidirectional pulse power supply with continuously adjustable forward parameters 8 V/20 A and reverse parameters 20 V/50 A was designed using DSP (Digital Signal Processor), and the bidirectional pulse power supply was used to test copper plating on printed circuit boards with filled via holes. The effects of frequencies, pulse width ratios of forward and reverse currents, and current densities on the copper plating effect were investigated by the single variable method and were compared with DC copper plating. The experimental results showed that compared with DC power supply, the bidirectional pulse power supply had a better effect and a faster speed on via-filling copper plating, and can also reduce the use of additives, which is in line with green development. The parameters of the pulse affected the plating effect to varying degrees. In this solution system, the optimal parameters for bidirectional pulse plating are frequency 1 kHz, forward pulse current density 4 ASD (Ampere per Square Decimeter) with 50% duty cycle, and reverse pulse current density 16 ASD with 2.5% duty cycle. Salt–alkali stress threatens the resilience to variable environments and thus the grain yield of rice. However, how rice responds to salt–alkali stress at the molecular level is poorly understood. Here, we report isolation of a novel salt–alkali-tolerant rice (SATR) by screening more than 700 germplasm accessions. Using 93-11, a widely grown cultivar, as a control, we characterized SATR in response to strong salt–alkali stress (SSAS). SATR exhibited SSAS tolerance higher than 93-11, as indicated by a higher survival rate, associated with higher peroxidase activity and total soluble sugar content but lower malonaldehyde accumulation. A transcriptome study showed that cell wall biogenesis-related pathways were most significantly enriched in SATR relative to 93-11 upon SSAS. Furthermore, higher induction of gene expression in the cell wall matrix polysaccharide biosynthesis pathway, coupled with higher accumulations of hemicellulose and pectin as well as measurable physio-biochemical adaptive responses, may explain the strong SSAS tolerance in SATR. We mapped SSAS tolerance to five genomic regions in which 35 genes were candidates potentially governing SSAS tolerance. The 1,4-β-D-xylan synthase gene OsCSLD4 in hemicellulose biosynthesis pathway was investigated in details. The OsCSLD4 function-disrupted mutant displayed reduced SSAS tolerance, biomass and grain yield, whereas the OsCSLD4 overexpression lines exhibited increased SSAS tolerance. Collectively, this study not only reveals the potential role of cell wall matrix polysaccharides in mediating SSAS tolerance, but also highlights applicable value of OsCSLD4 and the large-scale screening system in developing SSAS-tolerant rice. Wear debris in lubrication oil provides important information for marine engine condition monitoring and faults diagnosis. Inductive sensors have been widely used to detect wear debris in lubrication oil. To improve the sensitivity, the inductive coil is always connected with a capacitor in parallel to form parallel LC resonance-sensing circuit. A previous study optimized the parallel resonance circuit by adjusting the excitation frequency. However, multiple parameters (namely, excitation signal, signal detection circuits, and signal-processing program, etc.) need to be adjusted accordingly for a series of the testing frequencies. To simplify the optimization, we propose a method based on adjusting the parallel capacitance in this work. The impedance (inductance and internal resistance) of the sensing coil and its variation induced by particles are first measured, which are the necessary parameters for establishing the function relationship between the parallel capacitance and the relative impedance variation. With the function relationship, the relative impedance variation is calculated directly, and the optimal capacitance is located at the highest absolute value of it. The experimental results for the ferrous and nonferrous particles match the calculation results well. Interestingly, the optimal capacitance for the nonferrous particle was larger than that of the ferrous particle. Inductance detection is an important method for detecting wear debris in ship lubricating oil. Presently, an LCR (inductance, resistance, capacitance) meter is generally used to detect wear debris by measuring the inductance change of the sensing coil. When ferromagnetic debris passes through the sensing coil, a pulse will appear in the inductance signal. Previous studies have shown that the amplitude of the inductance pulse decreases significantly with the increase in the particles' velocity. Therefore, it is difficult to detect ferromagnetic debris with a high flow velocity using an LCR meter. In this paper, a novel method, high-frequency voltage acquisition (HFVA), is proposed to detect ferromagnetic debris. Different from previous methods, the wear debris was detected directly by measuring the voltage change of the sensing coil, while the synchronized sampling method was utilized to ensure the higher-frequency acquisition of the sensor output signal. The experimental results show that when the velocity of particles increased from 6 mm/s to 62 mm/s, the amplitude of the signal pulse obtained by HFVA decreased by only 13%, which was much lower than the 85% obtained by utilizing the LCR method. Secondary copper smelting is an effective means of treating waste resources. During the smelting process, the viscous behavior of the smelting slags is essential for smooth operation. Therefore, the effects of Fe/SiO2 ratio and Fe2O3 contents on the viscous behavior of the FeO−Fe2O3−SiO2−8 wt%CaO−3 wt%MgO−3 wt%Al2O3 slag system were investigated. The slag viscosity and activation energy for viscous flow decrease with increasing Fe/SiO2 from 0.8 to 1.2, and increase as the Fe2O3 content increases from 4 wt% to 16 wt% at Fe/SiO2 ratio of 1.2. However, under the conditions of Fe/SiO2 of 0.8 and 1.0, the viscosity and activation energy for viscous flow show a minimum value at Fe2O3 content of 12 wt%. Fe2O3 exhibits amphoteric properties. In addition, the increase in Fe2O3 content raises the breaking temperature of the slag, while the Fe/SiO2 ratio has the opposite effect. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy show that increases in Fe/SiO2 ratio lead to simplification of the silicate network structure, while increases in Fe2O3 content improves the formability of the network. Effective maintenance of ancient buildings is paid more and more attention worldwide. Many ancient buildings with high inheritance value were gradually destroyed, especially for murals in the open tombs. The bioaerosol particles (BPs) are the major source of contamination in murals and visitor walking could increase this hazard. In order to study the impact of visitors walking on the air flow and the distribution of BPs in the typical tomb chambers, the k-ε and Lagrangian discrete phase model were adopted. The walking visitor was described by the dynamic mesh, and the concentration of BPs in the simulation was verified by experimental sampling. The distribution and migration mechanism of contamination in the chamber were dynamically analyzed. The results indicate that the denser vortex generated when a visitor was walking, and the concentration of BPs changed obviously. Therefore, the number of BPs deposited on some precious murals increased and the contamination location shifted in the direction of visitor walking. In addition, the deposition time of BPs was lagging which would cause potential risk. This research can provide scientific basis for reducing murals contamination during visitor visiting and a reference for the maintenance of ancient buildings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is urgent that a convenient and sensitive technique of detecting Hg2+ be developed because of its toxicity. Conventional fluorescence analysis works with a single fluorescence probe, and it often suffers from signal fluctuations which are influenced by external factors. In this research, a novel dual-emission probe assembled through utilizing CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and rhodamine B was designed to detect Hg2+ visually. Only the emission of CdTe QDs was quenched after adding Hg2+ in the dual-emission probe, which caused an intensity ratio change of the two different emission wavelengths and hence facilitated the visual detection of Hg2+. Compared to single emission QDs-based probe, a better linear relationship was shown between the variation of fluorescence intensity and the concentration of Hg2+, and the limit of detection (LOD) was found to be11.4 nM in the range of 0–2.6 μM. Interestingly, the intensity of the probe containing Hg2+ could be recovered in presence of glutathione (GSH) due to the stronger binding affinity of Hg2+ towards GSH than that towards CdTe QDs. The rapid development of renewable energy, represented by wind and photovoltaic, provides a new solution for island power supplies. However, due to the intermittent and random nature of renewable energy, a microgrid needs energy-storage components to stabilize its power supply when coupled with them. The emergence of seawater-pumped storage stations provides a new method to offset the shortage of island power supply. In this study, an optimal scheduling of island microgrid is proposed, which uses seawater-pumped storage station as the energy storage equipment to cooperate with wind, photovoltaic and diesel generator. First, a mathematic formulation of seawater-pumped storage station with renewable energy is presented. Then, to reach the goal of economic dispatch, an optimal scheduling model of island microgrid is established with the consideration of both respective operation constraints and island load requirements. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by an island microgrid over two typical seasons. The simulation results show that the proposed framework not only increases the usage of renewable energy, but also improves the operational reliability and economy of island microgrids. With the increasing penetration of the hybrid AC/DC microgrid in power systems, an inertia decrease of the microgrid is caused. Many scholars have put forward the concept of a virtual synchronous generator, which enables the converters of the microgrid to possess the characteristics of a synchronous generator, thus providing inertia support for the microgrid. Nevertheless, the problems of active power oscillation and unbalance would be serious when multiple virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) operate in the microgrid. To conquer these problems, a VSG-based autonomous power-frequency control strategy is proposed, which not only independently allocates the power grid capacity according to the load capacity, but also effectively suppresses the active power oscillation. In addition, by establishing a dynamic small-signal model of the microgrid, the dynamic stability of the proposed control strategy in the microgrid is verified, and further reveals the leading role of the VSG and filter in the dynamic stability of microgrids. Vacuolar invertase is involved in sugar metabolism and plays a crucial role in plant growth and development, thus regulating seed size. However, information linking vacuolar invertase and seed size in rice is limited. Here we characterized a small grain mutant sg2 (grain size on chromosome 2) that showed a reduced in grain size and 1000-grain weight compared to the wild type. Map-based cloning and genetic complementation showed that OsINV3 is responsible for the observed phenotype. Loss-of-function of OsINV3 resulted in grains of smaller size when compared to the wild type, while overexpression showed increased grain size. We also obtained a T-DNA insertion mutant of OsINV2, which is a homolog of OsINV3 and generated double knockout (KO) mutants of OsINV2 and OsINV3 using CRISPR/Cas9. Genetic data showed that OsINV2, that has no effect on grain size by itself, reduces grain length and width in the absence of OsINV3. Altered sugar content with increased sucrose and decreased hexose levels, as well as changes vacuolar invertase activities and starch constitution in INV3KO, INV2KO, INV3KOINV2KO mutants indicate that OsINV2 and OsINV3 affect sucrose metabolism in sink organs. In summary, we identified OsINV3 as a positive regulator of grain size in rice, and while OsINV2 has no function on grain size by itself. In the absence of OsINV3, it is possible to detect a role of OsINV2 in the regulation of grain size. Both OsINV3 and OsINV2 are involved in sucrose metabolism, and thus regulate grain size. Our findings increase our understanding of the role of OsINV3 and its homolog, OsINV2, in grain size development and also suggest a potential strategy to improve grain yield in rice. Wear debris detection is an effective method to determine the running state of the machine. Recently, the planar inductor is commonly used to detect wear debris. The previous studies have found that the inductive signal would be varied while changing the position of wear debris pass through. However, the effect of position on the wear debris detection is not well understood. In this paper, a novel detection system in which the position of wear debris pass through could be adjusted precisely is designed. By changing the position in horizontal or vertical direction, the inductive signals of the wear debris were acquired. In the horizontal direction, the experimental results show that the amplitude of the inductive signal first increases and then decreases when the position changes from the center of the planar inductor to the outer. The maximum inductive signal appears when the wear debris pass through the edge of the inner coil, which is 20% higher than that for the center and much higher than that for the edge of outer coil. In the vertical direction, the signal decreases almost linearly when the position is away from the planar inductor. For every 0.1 mm step far away the planar inductor, the signal amplitude drops by approximately 10%. The inductive detection of wear debris in lubrication oil is an effective method to monitor the machine status. As the wear debris is usually micro scale, a micro inductive sensor is always used to detect them in research papers or high-tech products. However, the improvement of detection sensitivity for micro inductive sensors is still a great challenge, especially for early wear debris of 20 μm or smaller diameter. This paper proposes a novel method to improve the detection sensitivity of a micro inductive sensor. Regarding the magnetic powder surrounding the sensor, the magnetic field in the core of the sensor where the wear debris pass through would be enhanced due to the increased relative permeability. Thus, the inductive signal would be improved and the detection sensitivity would be increased. It is found that the inductive signal would linearly increase with increasing the concentration of the magnetic powder and this enhancement would also be effective for wear debris of different sizes. Inductive wear debris sensor has been widely used in real time machine lubricant oil condition monitoring and fault forecasting. However, the small sensing zone, which is designed for high sensitivity, of the existing sensors leads to low throughput. In order to improve the throughput, a novel multichannel wear debris sensor that is based on phase division multiplexing is presented. By introducing the phase shift circuit into the system, multiple sensing coils could work at different initial phases. Multiple signals of sensing coils could be combined into one output without information loss. Synchronized sampling is used for data recording, and output signals of multiple sensing coils are extracted from the recorded data. A four-channel wear debris sensor system was designed to demonstrate our method. Subsequently, crosstalk analysis, pseudo-dynamic testing and dynamic testing were conducted to check the sensing system. Results show that signals of four sensing coils could be simultaneously detected and the detection limit for ferrous wear debris is 33 μm. Using the presented method, real time wear debris detection in multiple channels could be achieved without increasing the number of excitation source and data acquisition equipment. Sensitivity is an important performance index for evaluating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors. Sensitivity enhancement has always been a hot topic. It is found that the different refractive indices of samples require different combinations of prism and metal film for better sensitivity. Furthermore, the sensitivity can be enhanced by coating two-dimensional (2D) materials with appropriate layers on the metal film. At this time, it is necessary to choose the best film configuration to enhance sensitivity. With the emergence of more and more 2D materials, selecting the best configuration manually is becoming more complicated. Compared with the traditional manual method of selecting materials and layers, this paper proposes an optimization method based on a genetic algorithm to quickly and effectively find the optimal film configuration that enhances sensitivity. By using this method, not only can the optimal number of layers of 2D materials be determined quickly, but also the optimal configuration can be conveniently found when many materials are available. To estimate the reaction free energies of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) on under-coordinated metallic sites, density function theory (DFT) calculations are usually employed to calculate the hydrogen adsorption energy with an "only-one-hydrogen-adsorption" model, assuming that adsorption with one hydrogen is the most thermodynamically favorable situation during catalysis. In this brief report, we show that on many single atom sites, adsorption of more than one hydrogen is sometimes even more thermodynamically favorable, with the presence of two or three hydrogens resulting in lower adsorption energies. These interesting non-monotonic trends indicate that modeling HER and other hydrogen-related reactions on under-coordinated sites should also consider the numbers of hydrogen being adsorbed at the same site, otherwise the results could deviate from real experimental situations. The public’s acceptance level of recycled water use is a key factor that affects the popularization of this technology; therefore, it is critical to know the public’s attitude in order to make guiding policies effectively and scientifically. To examine the major focuses and hot topics among the public about recycled water use, one of the major platforms for social opinion in China, the micro blog, is used as a source to obtain data related to the topic. Through the “follow-be followed” and “forward-dialogue” behaviors, a network of discussion of recycled water use among micro-blog users has been constructed. Improved particle swarm optimization has been used to allow deep digging for key words. Ultimately, key words about the topic of have been clustered into three categories, namely, the popularization status of recycled water use, the main application, and the public’s attitude. Evaporative cooling is a green, energy-efficient cooling technology adopted in hot and dry regions, which has wider application in the field of air-conditioning systems. Outdoor meteorological parameters have a great influence on the operation mode and control strategy of evaporative cooling air-conditioning systems, and the system load distribution and system configuration will be affected. This paper aims at investigating the load distribution of semi-central evaporative cooling air-conditioning systems under the condition of hourly outdoor meteorological parameters. Firstly, this paper introduced the design partition, operation mode, controlling strategy and load distribution method on semi-central evaporative cooling air-conditioning system. Then, taking an office building in Lanzhou (China) as an example, the evaporative cooling air-conditioning system was divided into five regions and the load distribution was simulated by TRNSYS (The Transient Energy System Simulation Tool) under the condition of hourly outdoor meteorological parameters. Finally, the results have shown that the evaporative cooling air-conditioning system can provide 25.46% of the building loads, which was of great significance to reduce the energy consumption of air-conditioning system. Indoor airborne culturable bacteria are sometimes harmful to human health. Therefore, a quick estimation of their concentration is particularly necessary. However, measuring the indoor microorganism concentration (e.g., bacteria) usually requires a large amount of time, economic cost, and manpower. In this paper, we aim to provide a quick solution: using knowledge-based machine learning to provide quick estimation of the concentration of indoor airborne culturable bacteria only with the inputs of several measurable indoor environmental indicators, including: indoor particulate matter (PM 2.5 and PM 10 ), temperature, relative humidity, and CO₂ concentration.
