In a previous study, we reported the alterations of primary antioxidant enzymes and decreased citrate synthase (CS) activities in different grades of human astrocytoma tissues. Here, we further investigated coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) levels and protein levels of polyprenyl diphosphate synthase subunit (PDSS2) and several COQ proteins required for CoQ10 biosynthesis in these tissues. We found that the level of endogenous CoQ10, but not of exogenous α-tocopherol, was higher in nontumor controls than in all grades of astrocytoma tissues. The levels of COQ3, COQ5, COQ6, COQ7, COQ8A, and COQ9, but not of COQ4, were lower in Grade IV astrocytoma tissues than in controls or low-grade (Grades I and II) astrocytomas, but PDSS2 levels were higher in astrocytoma tissues than in controls. Correlation analysis revealed that the levels of CoQ10 and COQ proteins were negatively correlated with malignancy degree and positively correlated with CS activity, whereas PDSS2 level was positively correlated with malignancy. Moreover, lower level of mitochondrial DNA-encoded cytochrome c oxidase subunit 2 was not only associated with a higher malignancy degree but also with lower level of all COQ proteins detected. Cleft palate is the most common congenital facial deformity and may result in multiple sequelae and disabilities. One common comorbidity is refractory otitis media with effusion (OME), as patients with cleft palate have impaired eustachian tube function with alteration of the nearby muscular structures. Ventilation tube insertion (VTI) is regarded as an effective mean to address OME in addition to palatal repair surgery. However, controversy regarding the efficacy of VTI and the timing of VTI remains. We aimed to assess the efficacy of VTI with palatal repair for cleft palate on OME development via a meta-analysis with systematic review and trial sequential analysis (TSA). Studies including patients with cleft palate who underwent palatal repair with or without VTI were considered eligible. After searching the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from inception through 5 September 2021, 9 studies involving 929 patients were included. Overall, a significantly higher OME-free rate was noted in those who underwent VTI and palatal repair than in those who underwent palatal repair alone (OR, 2.73; 95% CI, 1.37 to 5.42; p = 0.004; I2 = 84%). Subgroup analysis revealed that the OME-free rate remained higher in the concurrent VTI group (OR, 3.29; 95% CI, 1.64 to 6.59; p < 0.001; I2 = 81%). TSA indicated that all the analyses provided conclusive results by meeting the required information size and Z-value. The meta-analysis indicated that VTI is an effective procedure to prevent OME in patients with cleft palate and that VTI is beneficial when performed concurrently with palatal repair surgery. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) results from joint destruction by osteoclasts. The promising efficacy of TNF-α blockage indicates its important role in osteoclastogenesis of PsA. WNT ligands actively regulate osteoclastogenesis. We investigated how WNT ligands activate osteoclasts amid the TNF-α milieu in PsA. We first profiled the expression of WNT ligands in CD14+ monocyte-derived osteoclasts (MDOC) from five PsA patients and five healthy controls (HC) and then validated the candidate WNT ligands in 32 PsA patients and 16 HC. Through RNA interference against WNT ligands in MDOC, we determined the mechanisms by which TNF-α exerts its effects on osteclastogenesis or chemotaxis. WNT5A was selectively upregulated by TNF-α in MDOC from PsA patients. The number of CD68+WNT5A+ osteoclasts increased in PsA joints. CXCL1, CXCL16, and MCP-1 was selectively increased in supernatants of MDOC from PsA patients. RNA interference against WNT5A abolished the increased MCP-1 from MDOC and THP-1-cell-derived osteoclasts. The increased migration of osteoclast precursors (OCP) induced by supernatant from PsA MDOC was abolished by the MCP-1 neutralizing antibody. WNT5A and MCP-1 expressions were decreased in MDOC from PsA patients treated by biologics against TNF-α but not IL-17. Type 2 diabetes might be influenced by colonic disease; however, the association between colonic resection and type 2 diabetes has rarely been discussed. This population-based cohort study explored the association between colectomy and type 2 diabetes in patients without colorectal cancer. A total of 642 patients who underwent colectomy for noncancerous diseases at any time between 2000 and 2012 in the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan were enrolled. The enrolled patients were matched with 2568 patients without colectomy at a 1:4 ratio using a propensity score that covered age, sex, and comorbidities. The risk of type 2 diabetes was assessed using a Cox proportional hazards model. The mean (standard deviation) follow-up durations in colectomy cases and non-colectomy controls were 4.9 (4.0) and 5.6 (3.6) years, respectively; 65 (10.1%) colectomy cases and 342 (15.5%) non-colectomy controls developed type 2 diabetes. After adjustment, colectomy cases still exhibited a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes (adjusted HR = 0.80, 95% CI: 0.61–1.04). A stratified analysis for colectomy type indicated that patients who underwent right or transverse colectomy had a significantly lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes (adjusted HR = 0.57, 95% CI: 0.34–0.98). In the present study, colectomy tended to be at a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes in patients without colorectal cancer, and right or transverse colectomies were especially associated with a significantly reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. Nano-sized zinc oxide (nano-ZnO) affects lipid deposition, but its absorption patterns and mechanisms affecting lipid metabolism are still unclear. This study was undertaken to investigate the molecular mechanism of nano-ZnO absorption and its effects on lipid metabolism in the intestinal tissues of a widely distributed freshwater teleost yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. We found that 100 mg/kg dietary nano-ZnO (H-Zn group) significantly increased intestinal Zn contents. The zip6 and zip10 mRNA expression levels were higher in the H-Zn group than those in the control (0 mg/kg nano-ZnO), and zip4 mRNA abundances were higher in the control than those in the L-Zn (50 mg/kg nano-ZnO) and H-Zn groups. Eps15, dynamin1, dynamin2, caveolin1, and caveolin2 mRNA expression levels tended to reduce with dietary nano-ZnO addition. Dietary nano-ZnO increased triglyceride (TG) content and the activities of the lipogenic enzymes glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD), and isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), upregulated the mRNA abundances of lipogenic genes 6pgd, fatty acid synthase (fas), and sterol regulatory element binding protein 1 (srebp1), and reduced the mRNA expression of farnesoid X receptor (fxr) and small heterodimer partner (shp). The SHP protein level in the H-Zn group was lower than that in the control and the L-Zn group markedly. Our in vitro study indicated that the intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) absorbed nano-ZnO via endocytosis, and nano-Zn-induced TG deposition and lipogenesis were partially attributable to the endocytosis of nano-ZnO in IECs. Mechanistically, nano-ZnO-induced TG deposition was closely related to the metal responsive transcription factor 1 (MTF-1)-SHP pathway. Thus, for the first time, we found that the lipogenesis effects of nano-ZnO probably depended on the key gene shp, which is potentially regulated by MTF1 and/or FXR. This research explores the behavior of Co40Fe40W10B10 when it is sputtered onto Si(100) substrates with a thickness (tf) ranging from 10 nm to 100 nm, and then altered by an annealing process at temperatures of 200 °C, 250 °C, 300 °C, and 350 °C, respectively. The crystal structure and grain size of Co40Fe40W10B10 films with different thicknesses and annealing temperatures are observed and estimated by an X-ray diffractometer pattern (XRD) and full-width at half maximum (FWHM). The XRD of annealing Co40Fe40W10B10 films at 200 °C exhibited an amorphous status due to insufficient heating drive force. Moreover, the thicknesses and annealing temperatures of body-centered cubic (BCC) CoFe (110) peaks were detected when annealing at 250 °C with thicknesses ranging from 80 nm to 100 nm, annealing at 300 °C with thicknesses ranging from 50 nm to 100 nm, and annealing at 350 °C with thicknesses ranging from 10 nm to 100 nm. The FWHM of CoFe (110) decreased and the grain size increased when the thickness and annealing temperature increased. The CoFe (110) peak revealed magnetocrystalline anisotropy, which was related to strong low-frequency alternative-current magnetic susceptibility (χac) and induced an increasing trend in saturation magnetization (Ms) as the thickness and annealing temperature increased. The contact angles of all Co40Fe40W10B10 films were less than 90°, indicating the hydrophilic nature of Co40Fe40W10B10 films. Furthermore, the surface energy of Co40Fe40W10B10 presented an increased trend as the thickness and annealing temperature increased. According to the results, the optimal conditions are a thickness of 100 nm and an annealing temperature of 350 °C, owing to high χac, large Ms, and strong adhesion; this indicates that annealing Co40Fe40W10B10 at 350 °C and with a thickness of 100 nm exhibits good thermal stability and can become a free or pinned layer in a magnetic tunneling junction (MTJ) application. Although the anti-allergic and prebiotic activities of diosgenin have been reported, the influence of diosgenin on intestinal immune and epithelial cells remains unclear. As the gut microbiota plays an important role in allergic disorders, this study aimed to investigate whether the anti-allergic diarrhea effect of diosgenin occurs via improving gut dysbiosis. In a murine food allergy model, the density of fecal bacterial growth on de Man, Rogossa and Sharpe (MRS) plates was diminished, and growth on reinforced clostridial medium (RCM) and lysogeny broth (LB) agar plates was elevated. However, the oral administration of diosgenin reduced the density of fecal bacteria and ameliorated diarrhea severity. Concordantly, reshaped diversity and an abundance of fecal microbes were observed in some of the diosgenin-treated mice, which showed a milder severity of diarrhea. The relevant fecal strains from the diosgenin-treated mice were defined and cultured with Caco-2 cells and allergen-primed mesenteric lymph node (MLN) cells. These strains exhibited protective effects against the cytokine/chemokine network and allergen-induced T-cell responses to varying degrees. By contrast, diosgenin limitedly regulated cytokine production and even reduced cell viability. Taken together, these findings show that diosgenin per se could not directly modulate the functionality of intestinal epithelial cells and immune cells, and its anti-allergic effect is most likely exerted via improving gut dysbiosis. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), a transcriptional factor involved in tumorigenesis and cancer stemness formation, contributes to drug resistance in cancer therapies. STAT3 not only mediates gene transcription but also participates in microRNA suppression. This study identified a STAT3-downstream micro RNA (miRNA) involved in drug resistance against regorafenib in colorectal cancer stem-like tumorspheres. Small RNAseq was used to investigate differential microRNAs in colorectal cancer cell-derived tumorspheres and in a STAT3-knockdown strain. The miRNA-mediated genes were identified by comparing RNAseq data with gene targets predicted using TargetScan. Assays for detecting cell viability and apoptosis were used to validate findings. The formation of colorectal cancer stem-like tumorspheres was inhibited by BBI608, a STAT3 inhibitor, but not by regorafenib. Additional investigations for microRNA expression demonstrated an increase in 10 miRNAs and a decrease in 13 miRNAs in HT29-derived tumorspheres. A comparison of small RNAseq results between tumorspheres and HT29shSTAT3 cells revealed the presence of four STAT3-mediated miRNAs in HT29-derived tumorspheres: hsa-miR-215-5p, hsa-miR-4521, and hsa-miR-215-3p were upregulated, whereas miR-30a-5p was downregulated. Furthermore, hsa-miR-4521 was associated with poor overall survival probability, and miR-30a-5p was associated with better overall survival probability in patients with rectum cancer. Comparisons of RNAseq findings between HCT116- and HT29-derived tumorspheres revealed that HSPA5 were mediated by the STAT3-miR-30a-5p axis, which is overexpressed in colorectal tumorspheres associating to anti-apoptosis. In addition, the transfection of miR-30a-5p and inhibition of HSPA5 by HA15 significantly reduced cell viability and increased apoptosis in HT29 cells. In conclusion, a STAT3-miR-30a-5p-HSPA5 axis was observed against regorafenib-mediated apoptosis in colorectal cancer tumorspheres. The expression of miR-30a-5p was repressed by STAT3; in addition, HSPA5 was identified as the target gene of miR-30a-5p and contributed to both tumorsphere formation and anti-apoptosis. ZIP (zinc-regulated transporters, iron-regulated transporter-like protein) family plays an important role in organism Zn balance. This research identified the promoter regions of ZIP3 and ZIP8, two members of ZIP family, from a freshwater teleost yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco, characterized the binding sequences of the metal-responsive transcription factor-1 (MTF-1) and Ras responsive element binding protein 1 (RREB1) on their promoter regions. The present study cloned and obtained the 2027 bp of ZIP3 promoter and 1664 bp of ZIP8 promoter, and predicted several key elements on their promoters, such as the binding sites of CREB (cAMP-response element binding protein), KLF4 (Kruppel like factor 4), MTF-1 and RREB1. The sequence deletion from −361 bp to −895 bp down-regulated the luciferase activity of ZIP3 promoter, and the deletion from −897 bp to −1664 bp down-regulated the luciferase activity of ZIP8 promoter. Within different deletion plasmids, the relative luciferase activities of ZIP3 and ZIP8 promoters changes to Zn incubation in a Zn concentration-dependent manner. The site mutagenesis and EMSA (electrophoretic mobility shift assay) found that the −1327 bp/−1343 bp MTF-1 binding site and the −248 bp/−267 bp RREB1 binding site on the ZIP3 promoter, and the −1543 bp/−1557 bp MTF-1 binding site on the ZIP8 promoter are functional sites. Low Zn increased the binding capability between MTF-1 and its responsive site on the ZIP3 promoter, and high Zn increased the transcriptional activation ZIP3 by RREB1; Zn also promoted the binding ability between MTF-1 and its responsive element on the ZIP8 promoter. This study provides the first direct evidence for the response elements of MTF-1 and RREB1 on ZIP3 and MTF-1 on ZIP8 to Zn, which are very important for the evaluation of Zn nutrition and toxicity in vertebrates. Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly lethal malignancy due to the cancer routinely being diagnosed late and having a limited response to chemotherapy. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the most common form of pancreatic malignant tumor, representing more than 85% of all pancreatic cancers. In the present study, we characterized the phenotypes of concomitant P53 and APC mutations in pancreatic neoplasms driven by the oncogene KRAS in genetically modified mice (GEMM). In this GEMM setting, APC haploinsufficiency coupled with P53 deletion and KRASG12D activation resulted in an earlier appearance of pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) lesions and progressed rapidly to highly invasive and metastatic PDAC. Through a microarray analysis of murine PDAC cells derived from our APC-deficient PDAC model, we observed that APC loss leads to upregulated CD34 expression in PDAC. CD34 is a member of a family of single-pass transmembrane proteins and is selectively expressed in hematopoietic progenitor cells, vascular endothelial cells, interstitial precursor cells, and various interstitial tumor cells. However, the functional roles of CD34 in pancreatic cancer remain unclear. Thus, in this study, we explored the mechanisms regarding how CD34 promotes the deterioration of pancreatic malignancy. Our results demonstrated that the increased expression of CD34 induced by APC inactivation promotes the invasion and migration of PDAC cells, which may relate to PDAC metastasis in vivo. Collectively, our study provides first-line evidence to delineate the association between CD34 and the APC/Wnt pathway in PDAC, and reveals the potential roles of CD34 in PDAC progression. Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a destructive joint disease mediated by osteoclasts. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) regulate several important pathways in osteoclastogenesis. We profiled the expression of miRNAs in CD14+ monocytes from PsA patients and investigated how candidate microRNAs regulate the pathophysiology in osteoclastogenesis. The RNA from circulatory CD14+ monocytes was isolated from PsA patients, psoriasis patients without arthritis (PsO), and healthy controls (HCs). The miRNAs were initially profiled by next-generation sequencing (NGS). The candidate miRNAs revealed by NGS were validated by PCR in 40 PsA patients, 40 PsO patients, and 40 HCs. The osteoclast differentiation and its functional resorption activity were measured with or without RNA interference against the candidate miRNA. The microRNA-941 was selectively upregulated in CD14+ monocytes from PsA patients. Osteoclast development and resorption ability were increased in CD14+ monocytes from PsA patients. Inhibition of miR-941 abrogated the osteoclast development and function while increased the expression of WNT16. After successful treatment, the increased miR-941 expression in CD14+ monocytes from PsA patients was revoked. The expression of miR-941 in CD14+ monocytes is associated with PsA disease activity. Cancer pathogenesis results from genetic alteration-induced high or low transcriptional programs, which become highly dependent on regulators of gene expression. However, their role in progressive regulation of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and how these dependencies may offer opportunities for novel therapeutic options remain to be understood. Previously, we identified forkhead box F1 (FOXF1) as a reprogramming mediator which leads to stemnesss when mesenchymal stem cells fuse with lung cancer cells, and we now examine its effect on lung cancer through establishing lowly and highly expressing FOXF1 NSCLC engineered cell lines. Higher expression of FOXF1 was enabled in cell lines through lentiviral transduction, and their viability, proliferation, and anchorage-dependent growth was assessed. Flow cytometry and Western blot were used to analyze cellular percentage in cell-cycle phases and levels of cellular cyclins, respectively. In mice, tumorigenic behavior of FOXF1 was investigated. We found that FOXF1 was downregulated in lung cancer tissues and cancer cell lines. Cell proliferation and ability of migration, anchorage-independent growth, and transformation were inhibited in H441-FOXF1H and H1299-FOXF1H, with upregulated tumor suppressor p21 and suppressed cellular cyclins, leading to cell-cycle arrest at the gap 1 (G1) phase. H441-FOXF1H and H1299-FOXF1H injected mice showed reduced tumor size. Conclusively, highly expressing FOXF1 inhibited NSCLC growth via activating tumor suppressor p21 and G1 cell-cycle arrest, thus offering a potentially novel therapeutic strategy for lung cancer. Chibby is an antagonist of β-catenin and is considered a potential tumor suppressor protein, but the role of Chibby in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been characterized. The expression patterns of Chibby and β-catenin in HCC specimens and paired adjacent noncancerous tissues were measured by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The correlations between Chibby expression and clinicopathological parameters were analyzed. Then the biological functions of Chibby were analyzed in vitro. The Chibby protein was significantly downexpressed in human primary HCC tissues compared to that in matched adjacent normal liver tissue and is a risk factor for HCC recurrence and shorter survival. Furthermore, we found that in HCC tissues the high expression of β-catenin with low expression of Chibby in the nuclei was an independent predictor for disease-free survival (DFS) (p = 0.012) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.005). Subsequent genetic manipulation in vitro studies revealed that Chibby knockdown induced the expression of β-catenin and C-myc, cyclin D1 protein, which promoted cell proliferation and invasiveness. In contrast, overexpression of Chibby decreased β-catenin expression and inhibited the cell proliferation and invasiveness. Our results suggest that low expression of Chibby was associated with advanced tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage and poor differentiation. Furthermore, the combination of Chibby and β-catenin can predict poor prognosis in patients with HCC. Chibby inhibited HCC progression by blocking β-catenin signaling in vitro. The purpose of this study is to explore the anti-inflammatory role of microRNAs (miR)-21 and miR-23 targeting the TLR/TNF-α pathway in response to chronic intermittent hypoxia with re-oxygenation (IHR) injury in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Gene expression levels of the miR-21/23a, and their predicted target genes were assessed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 40 treatment-naive severe OSA patients, and 20 matched subjects with primary snoring (PS). Human monocytic THP-1 cell lines were induced to undergo apoptosis under IHR exposures, and transfected with miR-21-5p mimic. Both miR-21-5p and miR-23-3p gene expressions were decreased in OSA patients as compared with that in PS subjects, while TNF-α gene expression was increased. Both miR-21-5p and miR-23-3p gene expressions were negatively correlated with apnea hypopnea index and oxygen desaturation index, while TNF-α gene expression positively correlated with apnea hypopnea index. In vitro IHR treatment resulted in decreased miR-21-5p and miR-23-3p expressions. Apoptosis, cytotoxicity, and gene expressions of their predicted target genes—including TNF-α, ELF2, NFAT5, HIF-2α, IL6, IL6R, EDNRB, and TLR4—were all increased in response to IHR, while all were reversed with miR-21-5p mimic transfection under IHR condition. The findings provide biological insight into mechanisms by which IHR-suppressed miRs protect cell apoptosis via inhibit inflammation, and indicate that over-expression of the miR-21-5p may be a new therapy for OSA. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and -steatohepatitis (NASH) imply a state of excessive fat built-up in livers with/or without inflammation and have led to serious medical concerns in recent years. Antrodan (Ant), a purified β-glucan from A. cinnamomea has been shown to exhibit tremendous bioactivity, including hepatoprotective, antihyperlipidemic, antiliver cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects. Considering the already well-known alleviating bioactivity of A. cinnamomea for the alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH), we propose that Ant can be beneficial to NAFLD, and that the AMPK/Sirt1/PPARγ/SREBP-1c pathways may be involved in such alleviations. To uncover this, we carried out this study with 60 male C57BL/6 mice fed high-fat high-fructose diet (HFD) for 60 days, in order to induce NAFLD/NASH. Mice were then grouped and treated (by oral administration) as: G1: control; G2: HFD (HFD control); G3: Ant, 40 mgkg (Ant control); G4: HFD+Orlistat (10 mg/kg) (as Orlistat control); G5: HFD+Ant L (20 mg/kg); and G6: HFD+Ant H (40 mg/kg) for 45 days. The results indicated Ant at 40 mg/kg effectively suppressed the plasma levels of malondialdehyde, total cholesterol, triglycerides, GOT, GPT, uric acid, glucose, and insulin; upregulated leptin, adiponectin, pAMPK, Sirt1, and down-regulated PPARγ and SREBP-1c. This meta-analysis evaluated the effects of methylphenidate (MPH) on cognitive outcome and adverse events in adults with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and PsycINFO for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published before July 2019. Studies that compared the effects of MPH and placebos in adults with TBI were included. The primary outcome was cognitive function, while the secondary outcome was adverse events. Meta-regression and sensitivity analysis were conducted to evaluate heterogeneity. Seventeen RCTs were included for qualitative analysis, and ten RCTs were included for quantitative analysis. MPH significantly improved processing speed, measured by Choice Reaction Time (standardized mean difference (SMD): −0.806; 95% confidence interval (CI): −429 to −0.182, p = 0.011) and Digit Symbol Coding Test (SMD: −0.653; 95% CI: −1.016 to −0.289, p < 0.001). Meta-regression showed that the reaction time was inversely associated with the duration of MPH. MPH administration significantly increased heart rate (SMD: 0.553; 95% CI: 0.337 to 0.769, p < 0.001), while systolic or diastolic blood pressure did not exhibit significant differences. This paper proposes an IoT-based intelligent hydroponic plant factory solution called PlantTalk. The novelty of our approach is that the PlantTalk intelligence can be built through an arbitrary smartphone. We show that PlantTalk can flexibly configure the connections of various plant sensors and actuators through a smartphone. One can also conveniently write Python programs for plant-care intelligence through the smart phone. The developed plant-care intelligence includes automatic LED lighting, water spray, water pump and so on. As an example, we show that the PlantTalk intelligence effectively lowers the CO2 concentration, and the reduction speed is 53% faster than a traditional plant system. This study investigated the clinical outcome of locally advanced cervical esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients who received curative concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) and their differences from thoracic ESCC patients. Among 411 enrolled ESCC patients, including 63 with cervical and 348 with thoracic ESCC, 63 thoracic patients were propensity score-matched to the 63 cervical patients. For cervical ESCC, T4b and high tumor grade were independent prognostic factors of a worse overall survival (OS) in univariate and multivariate analyses. The response rates to curative CCRT between cervical and the matched thoracic ESCC groups were similar but cervical ESCC had a better OS than that of the matched thoracic group (21.4 versus 10.1 months, p = 0.012). Better OS was mentioned to be in the patients with complete response (CR), whether in the cervical or matched thoracic ESCC group. For patients without CR, patients who underwent esophagectomy had superior OS than those without operation in the matched thoracic ESCC group (11.6 versus 11.9 months, p = 0.73). Only three patients received operation in the cervical ESCC group, thus the survival difference was not significant. Curative CCRT may be a reasonable treatment for cervical ESCC in clinical practice, and the role of surgery should be considered as salvage therapy if residual disease is evident.
