An amplitude modulator plays an essential role in the implementation of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD), whereas it may bring about a potential security loophole in the practical system. The high-frequency modulation of the actual transmitter usually results in the high rate of the system. However, an imperfect amplitude modulator (AM) can give birth to a potential information leakage from the modulation of the transmitter. To reveal a potential security loophole from the high-frequency AM embedded in the transmitter, we demonstrate an influence on the practical security of the system in terms of the secret key rate and maximal transmission distance. The results indicate the risk of this security loophole in the imperfect AM-embedded transmitter. Fortunately, the legal participants can trace back the potential information leakage that has been produced from the imperfect transmitter at high frequencies, which can be used for defeating the leakage attack in CVQKD. We find the limitations of the imperfect AM-embedded transmitter of the high-frequency quantum system, and hence, we have to trade off the practical security and the modulation frequency of the AM-embedded transmitter while considering its implementation in a practical environment. Localization of wireless transmitters is traditionally done using Radio Frequency (RF) sensors that measure the propagation delays between the transmitter and a set of anchor receivers. One of the major challenges of wireless localization systems is the need for anchor nodes to be time-synchronized to achieve accurate localization of a target node. Using a reference transmitter is an efficient way to synchronize the anchor nodes Over-The-Air (OTA), but such algorithms require multiple periodic messages to achieve tight synchronization. In this paper, we propose a new synchronization method that only requires a single message from a reference transmitter. The main idea is to use the Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) from the reference node, alongside the Time of Arrival (ToA) of the reference node messages, to achieve tight synchronization. The ToA allows the anchor nodes to compensate for their absolute time offset, and the CFO allows the anchor nodes to compensate for their local oscillator drift. Additionally, using the CFO of the messages sent by the reference nodes and the target nodes also allow us to estimate the speed of the targets. The error of the proposed algorithm is derived analytically and is validated through controlled laboratory experiments. The ability to sense propagating electromagnetic plane waves based on their directions of arrival (DOAs) is fundamental to a range of radio frequency (RF) sensing, communications, and imaging applications. This paper introduces an algorithm for the wideband true time delay digital delay Vandermonde matrix (DVM), utilizing Thiran fractional delays that are useful for realizing RF sensors having multiple look DOA support. The digital DVM algorithm leverages sparse matrix factorization to yield multiple simultaneous RF beams for low-complexity sensing applications. Consequently, the proposed algorithm offers a reduction in circuit complexity for multi-beam digital wideband beamforming systems employing Thiran fractional delays. Unlike finite impulse response filter-based approaches which are wideband but of a high filter order, the Thiran filters trade usable bandwidth in favor of low-complexity circuits. The phase and group delay responses of Thiran filters with delays of a fractional sampling period will be demonstrated. Thiran filters show favorable results for sample delay blocks with a temporal oversampling factor of three. Thiran fractional delays of orders three and four are mapped to Xilinx FPGA RF-SoC technologies for evaluation. The preliminary results of the APF-based Thiran fractional delays on FPGA can potentially be used to realize DVM factorizations using application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology. In this paper, an event-driven wireless sensor node is proposed and demonstrated. The primary design objective is to devise a wireless sensor node with miniaturization, integration, and high-accuracy recognition ability. The proposed wireless sensor node integrates two vibration-threshold-triggered energy harvesters that sense and power a threshold voltage control circuit for power management, a microcontroller unit (MCU) for system control, a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) environment data analysis and vibration events distribution, and a radio frequency (RF) digital baseband transmitter with IEEE 802.15.4-/.6 protocols. The dimensions of the wireless sensor node are 4 × 2 × 1 cm3. Finally, the proposed wireless sensor node was fabricated and tested. The alarming time for detecting the vibration event is less than 6 s. The measured recognition accuracy of three events (knock, shake, and heat) is over 97.5%. The proliferation of radar technology has given rise to a growing demand for advanced, high-performance transmitter front-ends operating in the 24 GHz frequency band. This paper presents a design analysis of a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (TX) front-end operated at a 24 GHz frequency and designed using 65 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology for radar applications. The proposed TX front-end design includes the integration of an up-conversion mixer and power amplifier (PA). The up-conversion mixer is a Gilbert cell-based design that translates the 2.4 GHz intermediate frequency (IF) signal and 21.6 GHz local oscillator (LO) signal to the 24 GHz RF output signal. The mixer is designed with a novel technique that includes a duplex transconductance path (DTP) for enhancing the mixer's linearity. The DTP of the mixer includes a primary transconductance path (PTP) and a secondary transconductance path (STP). The PTP incorporates a common source (CS) amplifier, while the STP incorporates an improved cross-quad transconductor (ICQT). The integrated PA in the TX front-end is a class AB tunable two-stage PA that can be tuned with the help of varactors as a synchronous mode to increase the PA bandwidth or stagger mode to obtain a high gain. The PA is tuned to 24 GHz as a synchronous mode PA for the TX front-end operation. The proposed TX front-end showed an excellent output power of 11.7 dBm and dissipated 7.5 mW from a 1.2 V supply. In addition, the TX front-end achieved a power-added efficiency (PAE) of 47% and 1 dB compression point (OP1dB) of 10.5 dBm. In this case, the output power is 10.5 dBm higher than the linear portion of the response. The methodologies presented herein have the potential to advance the state of the art in 24 GHz radar technology, fostering innovations in fields such as autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, and remote sensing. Emergency exit lights in public buildings are necessary for safety and evacuation. International safety standards require such lighting in many public places, like airports, schools, malls, hospitals, and other spaces, to prevent human casualties in emergencies. Emergency exit lights have become an essential part of casualty reduction projects. They can pose several application problems, including fire safety concerns. The issue of providing a safe way and operating emergency exit lights along one side of a long path arises during an emergency. Many studies in this field consider the case in which emergency exit lights' battery or main power fails. Power failures in dangerous situations such as fires or terrorist attacks make it difficult for people to escape. The lighting in open areas and stairwells during an emergency should be at least 2 lux. This work proposes an innovative technique for wirelessly powering emergency lights using microwave energy. Specifically, the study designed and fabricated a new wirelessly powered emergency lighting prototype. This prototype's wireless power transfer (WPT) base comprises an RF/DC converter circuit and an RF microwave transmitter station. The device can harvest RF microwave energy to energize the emergency light. This research aimed to develop a compact device that captures maximum RF strength to power emergency lights. This paper describes the use of the Murchison Widefield Array, a low-frequency radio telescope at a radio-quiet Western Australian site, as a radar receiver forming part of a continent-spanning multistatic radar network for the surveillance of space. This paper details the system geometry employed, the orbit-specific radar signal processing, and the orbit determination algorithms necessary to ensure resident space objects are detected, tracked, and propagated. Finally, the paper includes the results processed after a short collection campaign utilising several FM radio transmitters across the country, up to a maximum baseline distance of over 2500 km. In anticipation of the hybrid utilisation of the radio frequency (RF) wireless transceiver technology embedded in future smart Li-ion battery cells to deliver hybrid links based on power line communication (PLC) and wireless connections, herein we present an empirical high-frequency investigation of the direct current (DC) bus. The focus is to determine, via statistical tools including correlation coefficient (CC), root mean squared error (RMSE) and feature selective validation (FSV) method, the impedance and signal change impact on a possible communication link when fully charged cells are present or completely missing from the bus. Moreover, to establish if technological differences may be accounted for during the empirical experiments, Li-ion cells from two different manufacturers were selected and connected via three subsequent capacitive couplings of 1 µF, 1 nF and 1 pF. According to a methodical comparison by employing CC, RMSE, and FSV over the measured impedance and signal attenuation, this study has shown that the physical DC network is the dominant impedance at high frequencies and that the signal attenuation on the DC line supports communication in the investigated spectrum. A MedRadio RF receiver integrated circuit for implanted and wearable biomedical devices must be resilient to the out-of-band (OOB) orthogonal frequency division modulation (OFDM) blocker. As the OFDM is widely adopted for various broadcasting and communication systems in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band, the selectivity performance of the MedRadio RF receiver can severely deteriorate by the second-order intermodulation (IM2) distortion induced by the OOB OFDM blocker. An analytical investigation shows how the OFDM-induced IM2 distortion power can be translated to an equivalent two-tone-induced IM2 distortion power. It makes the OFDM-induced IM2 analysis and characterization process for a MedRadio RF receiver much simpler and more straightforward. A MedRadio RF receiver integrated circuit with a significantly improved resilience to the OOB IM2 distortion is designed in 65 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS). The designed RF receiver is based on low-IF architecture, comprising a low-noise amplifier, single-to-differential transconductance stage, quadrature passive mixer, trans-impedance amplifier (TIA), image-rejecting complex bandpass filter, and fractional phase-locked loop synthesizer. We describe design techniques for the IM2 calibration through the gate bias tuning at the mixer, and the dc offset calibration that overcomes the conflict with the preceding IM2 calibration through the body bias tuning at the TIA. Measured results show that the OOB carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR) performance is significantly improved by 4–11 dB through the proposed IM2 calibration. The measured maximum tolerable CIR is found to be between −40.2 and −71.2 dBc for the two-tone blocker condition and between −70 and −77 dBc for the single-tone blocker condition. The analytical and experimental results of this work will be essential to improve the selectivity performance of a MedRadio RF receiver against the OOB OFDM-blocker-induced IM2 distortion and, thus, improve the robustness of the biomedical devices in harsh wireless environments in the MedRadio and UHF bands. Transmitter antenna arrays are typically coupled to several RF chains, which imposes stringent requirements on the linearization of each power amplifier (PA) present in the system. For this and other reasons discussed in this work, Over-the-air (OTA) linearization methods are considered to linearize transmitter antenna arrays in 5G scenarios. However, several factors need to be considered when applying OTA linearization methods. In this paper, an extended critical review of validated OTA linearization methods is presented. The main goal is to point out and discuss the most prominent methods, in order to determine which one is the most suitable for a specific application. In particular, analysis for each method is performed and, subsequently, their benefits and the disadvantages are systematically discussed. This is sought to fill-in a gap in the scientific literarure and, thus, to help radio-frequency engineers in the implementation of OTA digital pre-distortion (DPD) techniques for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. Most already advanced developed heating control systems remain either in a prototype state (because of their relatively complex implementation requirements) or require very specific technologies not implementable in most existing buildings. On the other hand, the above-mentioned analysis has also pointed out that most smart building energy management systems deploy quite very basic heating control strategies limited to quite simplistic predesigned use-case scenarios. In the present paper, we propose a heating control strategy taking advantage of the overall identification of the living space by taking advantage of the consideration of the living space users' presence as additional thermal sources. To handle this, an adaptive controller for the operation of heating transmitters on the basis of soft computing techniques by taking into account the diverse range of occupants in the heating chain is introduced. The strategy of the controller is constructed on a basis of the modeling heating dynamics of living spaces by considering occupants as an additional heating source. The proposed approach for modeling the heating dynamics of living spaces is on the basis of time series prediction by a multilayer perceptron neural network, and the controlling strategy regarding the heating controller takes advantage of a Fuzzy Inference System with the Takagi-Sugeno model. The proposed approach has been implemented for facing the dynamic heating conduct of a real five-floor building's living spaces located at Senart Campus of University Paris-Est Créteil, taking into account the occupants of spaces in the control chain. Both light emitting diode (LED) characteristics for illumination and communication simultaneously have made visible light communication-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (VLC-OFDM) a strong competitive to radio frequency (RF). In this juncture, to improve signal to noise ratio (SNR) and coverage contour, the wavelet-OFDM is suggested for indoor VLC systems. In this paper, a wavelet VLC-OFDM is proposed for imaging multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The proposed wavelet-OFDM is exploited for a hybrid space-frequency domain pre-equalization technique instead of the traditional fast Fourier transform (FFT)-OFDM technique. The Meyer filter is selected and employed in the proposed technique. A comparable achievement is elaborated for several numbers of channels to achieve the enhanced performance in terms of bit rate and coverage contour. In addition, a useful comparison is executed between our wavelet VLC-OFDM and the traditional FFT-OFDM for a hybrid space-frequency domain pre-equalization technique. The simulation results emphasize the superiority point of wavelet VLC-OFDM MIMO system by improving the coverage contour by ~20% over the traditional OFDM at a 10−3 bit error rate (BER) target. Visible light communications (VLC) have received significant attention as a way of moving part of the saturated indoor wireless traffic to the wide and unregulated visible optical spectrum. Nowadays, VLC are considered as a suitable technology, for several applications such as high-rate data transmission, supporting internet of things communications or positioning. The signal processing originally derived from radio-frequency (RF) systems such as cooperative or precoding schemes can be applied to VLC. However, its implementation is not straightforward. Furthermore, unlike RF transmission, VLC present a predominant line-of-sight link, although a weak non-LoS component may appear due to the reflection of the light on walls, floor, ceiling and nearby objects. Blocking effects may compromise the performance of the aforementioned transmission schemes. There exist several surveys in the literature focused on VLC and its applications, but the management of the shadowing and interference in VLC requires a comprehensive study. To fill this gap, this work introduces the implementation of cooperative and precoding schemes to VLC, while remarking their benefits and drawbacks for overcoming the shadowing effects. After that, the combination of both cooperative and precoding schemes is analyzed as a way of providing resilient VLC networks. Finally, we propose several open issues that the cooperative and precoding schemes must face in order to provide satisfactory VLC performance in indoor scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
