Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) and dominant genic male sterility (DGMS) both result in the inability to produce or release functional pollen, making them pivotal systems in the hybridization breeding programs of Brassica crops such as cabbage (B. oleracea var. capitata). However, the underling molecular mechanisms are still largely unexplored. This study integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses of cabbage DGMS line, Ogura CMS line, and the maintainer line to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying these sterility types. The joint analysis predominantly identified significantly enriched pathways, including carbohydrate metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, and phenylpropanoid pathways between the MS lines and the maintainer. Especially, the CMS line exhibited a broader range of metabolic perturbations, with a total of 3556 significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 439 differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs) detected, particularly in the vitamin B6 metabolism pathway, which showed significant alterations. Given the differences in the inactivation period of microspores in CMS and DGMS lines, we found that DEGs unique to DGMS and maintainer line, such as BoGRPs and BoLTPs, primarily regulate fertility development before the unicellular stage. The DEGs shared between CMS_vs_maintainer and DGMS_vs_maintainer mainly govern microspore development after release from the tetrad, such as BoHXK1 and BoIDH. Additionally, the DEGs unique to CMS_vs_maintainer may contribute to other damage in floral organs beyond male fertility, potentially leading to severe bud abortion, such as BoPNPO. These findings provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the molecular mechanisms of male sterility and offer valuable insights into future breeding strategies in cruciferous vegetables. The purpose of this work is to explore the addition of cabbage (Brassica oleracea) waste interspersed with cattle dung into a continuous anaerobic digester that normally uses cattle dung as a substrate. In this work, a 200-L continuous anaerobic digester was operated to conduct the research. The digester was filled fully with a mixture of cattle dung and water (50%:50%). The digester was then operated by continuously adding a 5-L mixture of cattle dung and water (50%:50%) every day for 1 month. Subsequently, the digester was operated for 1 month with an additional 5-L mixture of cabbage waste and water (50%:50%) for odd-numbered days and a mixture of cattle dung and water (50%:50%) for even-numbered days. The methane composition was higher (in the range of 41–78%) with only the cattle dung in the system. With the addition of cabbage waste, the methane composition became lower (in the range of 20–60%). Anaerobically digested digestate is mostly used as organic fertilizer, but there is still a potential risk of heavy metal pollution. Biochar and bio-organic fertilizer through passivation can effectively reduce the mobility of heavy metal ions in soil, with the strong adsorption capacity of heavy metals, and are widely used in soil remediation. In this study, digestate as raw material supplemented with biochar was applied to simulated heavy metal-contaminated soil, and its effects on heavy metal content and the transformation of forms in soil and crop systems were systematically investigated. The application of biochar-based organic fertilizer to simulated heavy metal-contaminated soils resulted in large differences in the morphological distribution of heavy metals, which was reflected in a significant decrease in the content of heavy metals in the weakly acid-extractable state and an increase in the content of heavy metals in the residue state, and promoted the transformation of soil heavy metals from the weakly acid-extractable state to the residue state. There were differences in the accumulation of heavy metals in the above ground and below ground parts of cabbage, and Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb were mainly accumulated in the below ground parts of the plants. The present study offers an effective methodology for the remediation of soil and plant contamination by a range of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb), from the weak acid extraction stage to the residue stage. This study aimed to reuse discarded coir substrates and optimize irrigation as a low-cost solution for addressing waterlogging in paddy-converted farmland. We employed a 2 × 4 factorial design, with two cultivation methods consisting of paddy soil (PS) and coir substrates (CS), and four irrigation levels (IL) set as 140% crop evapotranspiration (ETc140), 100% ETc (ETc100), 60% ETc (ETc60), and non-irrigated control (ETc0). We evaluated the growth and physiological characteristics of cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. Capitata), including the outer leaf growth, yield components, water use efficiency (WUE), photosynthetic parameters, chlorophyll content, proline content, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and glucosinolates (GLs) content. The results indicated that the interaction between the CS and IL significantly improved cabbage growth, photosynthetic activity, and stress resistance compared with PS. Notably, when CS was combined with ETc100 and ETc60 irrigation levels, cabbage exhibited optimal growth parameters, and CS-ETc60 achieved the highest WUE. This study indicated that using discarded coir substrates combined with appropriate irrigation levels offers an effective and low-cost solution for mitigating waterlogging problems. Brassica oleracea is a complex species incorporating a great variety of vegetable types, including cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale, and others. Southern Italy, and especially the Puglia region, is rich in B. oleracea landraces. In this study, genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) was applied to a germplasm panel of 82 samples, mostly landraces and some commercial varieties, belonging to various morphotypes of B. oleracea. Population structure (K = 2), principal component (PCA), and phylogenetic analyses resulted in a general subdivision of our samples into two large lineages: the types used for their leaves (LHL) and those consumed for their flower heads (AIL). Going deeper inside, the different morphotypes were mostly grouped into specific clusters, and a clear separation of particular landraces, such as the Mugnoli and Cima nera broccoli, was observed in the structure analysis (K = 7), as well as in the PCA and in the Neighbor-Joining tree. The calculation of the pairwise fixation index (FST, threshold > 0.50) between LHL and AIL types (based on population structure analysis at K = 2) provided 456 outlier single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Among the corresponding orthologs annotated in Arabidopsis, we identified several genes involved in flower/inflorescence development, cellular proliferation, etc. Overall, our investigation provides useful information on the knowledge of early domesticated landraces of B. oleracea and allows for the attribution of unknown material to the appropriate taxonomical ranking. Reducing damage and missed harvest rates is essential for improving efficiency in unmanned cabbage harvesting. Accurate real-time segmentation of cabbage heads can significantly alleviate these issues and enhance overall harvesting performance. However, the complexity of the growing environment and the morphological variability of field-grown cabbage present major challenges to achieving precise segmentation. This study proposes an improved YOLOv8n-seg network to address these challenges effectively. Key improvements include modifying the baseline model's final C2f module and integrating deformable attention with dynamic sampling points to enhance segmentation performance. Additionally, an ADown module minimizes detail loss from excessive downsampling by using depthwise separable convolutions to reduce parameter count and computational load. To improve the detection of small cabbage heads, a Small Object Enhance Pyramid based on the PAFPN architecture is introduced, significantly boosting performance for small targets. The experimental results show that the proposed model achieves a Mask Precision of 92.2%, Mask Recall of 87.2%, and Mask mAP50 of 95.1%, while maintaining a compact model size of only 6.46 MB. Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the anatomical and visual outcomes of patients with stage IV full-thickness macular holes (FTMHs) treated by the cabbage leaf inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study, enrolling patients with stage IV FTMH operated by a single surgeon. Six patients with FTMH and no other known ocular comorbidities were included in the study. Results: Four patients (66.6%) were female, two were male. The median age was 71. The average duration of symptoms before surgery was 10.5 months (6–24 months). The mean preoperative minimum hole diameter was 480 μm (337–602), and the mean basal hole size was 1208 μm (703–1748). The mean preoperative BCVA was 0.63 LogMAR. Postoperatively, the BCVA improved in 5 (83.3%) patients and remained the same in 1 (16.7%). The mean postoperative BCVA was 0.42 LogMAR (0.0–0.70). The FTMH has closed in all cases (100%). At the follow-up examination three months after the surgery, we observed complete closure of the FTMH with the restoration of retinal layers. Conclusions: This approach resulted in a complete closure of FTMH with significant visual acuity improvement. Pseudomonas cannabina pv. alisalensis (Pcal) causes bacterial blight on cabbage. In a previous study, we screened for reduced virulence using Tn5 transposon mutants and identified a LysR-type transcriptional regulator (LTTR) as a potential virulence factor in Pcal. However, the role of LTTR in Pcal virulence has not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, we demonstrated that the Pcal NN14 mutant (with Tn5 insertion in the LTTR-encoding gene) showed reduced disease symptoms and bacterial populations in cabbage, indicating that LTTR contributes to Pcal virulence. RNA-seq analysis identified 39 LTTR-dependent genes. Genes associated with 13 of the type three secretion system (T3SS), two of flagellar apparatus, ABC transporters, and transcription factors were expressed at lower levels in the NN14 mutant compared to the wild type. Conversely, tssH and hcp, type six secretion system (T6SS)-related genes, showed higher expression in NN14. Furthermore, these differences in gene expression were observed in minimal medium, but not in nutrient-rich medium, suggesting that LTTR acts as a global regulator responsive to nutrient conditions. Additionally, LTTR activated the expression of T3SS-related genes during Pcal infection. We also demonstrated that NN14 showed a reduced ability to induce hypersensitive reaction (HR) cell death in non-host plants. Plant pathogenic Pseudomonas species cause a variety of diseases in plants. Each Pseudomonas species employs different virulence factors and strategies for successful infection. Moreover, even the same bacterial pathogens can differentially utilize virulence factors against various host plants. However, there has been relatively less emphasis on comparing the infection strategies of a single bacterial pathogen on different hosts and different bacterial pathogens on a single host. Here, we investigated plant–pathogen interactions using two Pseudomonas species, Pseudomonas cannabina pv. alisalensis (Pcal) KB211 and Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst) DC3000, and their host plants, cabbage and tomato. Our findings reveal distinct behaviors and virulence patterns across different host plants. Pcal multiplies to greater levels in cabbage compared to tomato, suggesting that Pcal is more adaptive in cabbage than tomato. Conversely, Pst showed robust multiplication in tomato even at lesser inoculum levels, indicating its aggressiveness in the apoplastic space. Gene expression analyses indicate that these pathogens utilize distinct virulence-related gene expression profiles depending on the host plant. This study investigates Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) incidence rates in cabbage, kale, and kohlrabi, focusing on the roots and stems over a 15-day period after sowing. Seeds were inoculated with Xcc, and infection levels were monitored using confocal microscopy combined with fluorescence in situ hybridization. Significant differences in incidence rates were observed across the 15 days using a scale from 0 to 5 (0–100% incidence). Kale exhibited the highest mean incidence rates in roots (3.64), while cabbage and kohlrabi showed greater variability (3.4–3.44). Stem infections were more severe, with kale showing the highest mean levels (4.16), followed by kohlrabi (4.0), and cabbage (3.68). In cabbage roots, incidence rates increased until day 11, after which a significant decline was noted, whereas stem Xcc incidence rates remained stable. Kale roots peaked on day 9, with significant fluctuations on days 13 and 15. Kohlrabi displayed moderate, stable root incidence rates over the 15-day period. In stems, kohlrabi showed a significant increase on day 11, followed by a drop on day 15. Regression analysis revealed a significant positive linear correlation between incidence rate and days of observation in kohlrabi roots. However, no significant trends were observed in stem infections across all species, where incidence rates were high and stable from day 7 onwards. Newly acquired data indicate that the incidence rate of Xcc development depends on the type of vegetable. However, the bacterial occurrence in the root parts does not always correspond with the intensity of Xcc colonization in the stem section of the plants. Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) is rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, trace elements, and functional components like glucosinolates, which are essential for promoting health. This study aims to enhance the health benefits and nutritional content of cabbage through lactic acid fermentation using a bioreactor, with a particular focus on glucosinolate retention. The fermentation utilized a consortium of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, known for its robust acidifying capabilities, and antioxidant-rich strains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum. A 5 L bioreactor facilitated the controlled fermentation process (35 °C, 24 h of fermentation at 5 rpm). The efficacy of glucosinolate retention was quantitatively assessed alongside the analysis of antioxidant properties via 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil (DPPH) and 2,2′-Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. The results indicated a notable enhancement in antioxidant capacity with a 16.32% increase in the DPPH radical scavenging rate compared to non-fermented cabbage. Glucosinolate retention was impressively sustained at 82.02% in bioreactor conditions. Storage stability tests conducted at 4 °C revealed minimal degradation of glucosinolates, maintaining significant levels up to 14 days (from 90.34% to 66.49%). Irrigation is one of the most important cultural practices in sustainable cabbage cultivation. While most studies on irrigation in cabbage have focused on conventional deficit irrigation (DI) practices, some plants' water requirements under the partial root drying (PRD) technique are not yet very clear. In this study, the possible responses of cabbage, such as growth, some quality, yield, yield parameters, water use efficiency (WUE), irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE), and yield response factor (ky), were investigated at four irrigation water levels (125%, 100%, 75%, and 50%) with DI and PRD techniques for 2 years. Irrigation treatments were carried out by the drip irrigation method, and the amount of irrigation water for the control (I-100) was calculated using the measurements taken from the Class-A evaporation container. A total of eight irrigation treatments—four conventional deficit irrigation (I-125, I-100, I-75, I-50) and four partial root drying (PRD-125, PRD-100, PRD75, PRD-50)—were considered in the study. ET values were determined between 47.69–60.78 mm in the first year and 80.11–101.37 mm in the second year. Total and marketable yield values, WUE and IWUE values, were significantly affected by the irrigation treatments. As a result of the research, the highest total and marketable yields were found in I-125, PRD-125, I-100, and PRD-100 treatments. It was important that WUE and IWUE values reached their highest levels in full irrigation and 25% more irrigation treatments as well as in deficit irrigation treatments. In conditions where irrigation water is scarce and expensive, I-75 and PRD-75 applications are also recommended. While an increase in cabbage head height and diameter was observed with increasing irrigation water level, SSC and L values increased at deficit irrigations. According to the correlation coefficients, a positive relationship was determined between marketable yield and head and stem diameter, head height, WUE, and ET for marketable yield. Ferroptosis, a recently elucidated style of regulated cell death, has emerged as a significant area of investigation in cancer biology. Natural active compounds that have anti-cancer effects are promising candidates for cancer prevention. Iberverin, a natural compound derived from Brassica oleracea var. capitata, has been shown to exert anti-tumor activities in some cancers. However, its role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and the molecular mechanisms are still poorly understood. In this study, we proved that iberverin can induce intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation to inhibit cell proliferation and initiate ferroptotic cell death in HCC cells, which can be eradicated by the ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) or deferoxamine mesylate (DFO) and ROS scavenger (GSH or NAC). Mechanistically, iberverin treatment can simultaneously downregulate SLC7A11 mRNA level and degrade GPX4 through the ubiquitination pathway, leading to lipid peroxidation and ferroptotic cell death in HCC cells. Significantly, a low dose of iberverin can remarkably increase the sensitivity of HCC cells to ferroptosis induced by canonical ferroptosis inducers RSL3 and imidazole ketone erastin (IKE). To address the limitations of current cabbage harvesters in China, which are often designed for a single variety and lack adaptability to different cabbage varieties, we developed an electric side-mounted cabbage harvester suitable for field operations in the Jiangsu region of China. This design is informed by the statistical analysis of the physical and agronomic parameters of major cabbage varieties. The harvester consists of key components, including an extraction device, a leaf-stripping device, a clamping and conveying device, and a root-cutting device. Powered by a 120 Ah direct current (DC) power source, it is capable of performing cabbage extraction, feeding, clamping, conveying, root cutting, and boxing in a single operation for three hours. Through theoretical analysis of the key components, specific parameters were determined, and field tests were conducted to verify the design. The results of the field experiments indicate that all components of the cabbage harvester operated effectively. Optimal performance was observed when the extraction roller speed was set between 100 and 110 RPM, the conveyor belt speed at 60 RPM, and the cutter speed between 160 and 220 RPM, resulting in a low cabbage harvest loss rate. An open-field study evaluated the effects of four biostimulants (Asahi, Optysil, Optycal, and Tytanit) on the yield and chemical composition of two white cabbage cultivars ('Caraflex' and 'Alfredo'). Clubroot disease, caused by the pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae, is a serious disease that poses a critical threat to cabbage production. Here, the mRNA and miRNA expression profiles of cabbage in response to a P. brassicae infection were analyzed. Given the persistent occurrence of foodborne illnesses linked to both raw and processed vegetables, understanding microbial behavior in these foods under distribution conditions is crucial. This study aimed to develop predictive growth models for Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes in raw (mung bean sprouts, onion, and cabbage) and processed vegetables (shredded cabbage salad, cabbage and onion juices) at various temperatures, ranging from 4 to 36 °C. Growth models were constructed and validated using isolated strains of Salmonella spp. (S. Bareilly, S. Enteritidis, S. Typhimurium) and L. monocytogenes (serotypes 1/2a and 1/2b) from diverse food sources. The minimum growth temperatures for Salmonella varied among different vegetable matrices: 8 °C for mung bean sprouts, 9 °C for both onion and cabbage, and 10 °C for ready-to-eat (RTE) shredded cabbage salad. Both pathogens grew in cabbage juice at temperatures above 17 °C, while neither demonstrated growth in onion juice, even at 36 °C. Notably, Salmonella spp. exhibited faster growth than L. monocytogenes in all tested samples. At 8 °C, the lag time (LT) and specific growth rate (SGR) for Salmonella spp. in mung bean sprouts were approximately tenfold longer and threefold slower, respectively, compared to those at 10 °C. A decrease in refrigerator storage temperature by 1 or 2 degrees significantly prevented the growth of Salmonella in raw vegetables. Excessive use of conventional fertilizers in agricultural soils can lead to environmental contamination, particularly affecting aquifers and surface waters. Nanofertilizers, with smaller particles and greater nutrient efficiency, offer a promising alternative. This study evaluates the application of nanofertilizers by reducing NPK-doses compared to conventional fertilizers in the cultivation of Brassica oleracea L. convar. capitata var. sabauda (Savoy cabbage). Field assays were conducted in experimental plots with different NPK doses and treatments using urea-hydroxyapatite and potassium sulfate nanoparticles (optimum dose: 80 N, 100 P2O5, 250 K2O kg ha−1; and half optimum dosage). The assay was monitored throughout the crop cycle, and cabbages were harvested to determine biometric parameters, yield, and nutrient contents. The results indicated that nanofertilizers at half the recommended dosage yielded similar results to conventional fertilization in terms of cabbage growth and yield. Specifically, soil pH and available P increased by the end of the crop cycle, while total N, C, CEC, and soil texture remained unchanged, regardless of the fertilizer dose applied. Cabbage plants treated with nanofertilizers showed no significant differences in nutrient content compared to those treated with conventional fertilizers. This study supports the potential of nanofertilizers as an environmentally sustainable alternative that can reduce nutrient inputs in agriculture without compromising crop yield and quality. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties of polyphenols extracted from Brassica oleracea var. capitata (cabbage) ethanolic extract (BOE). Given the historical use of cabbage in traditional medicine for treating various ailments, this research aims to validate these effects scientifically. The study involved the characterization of BOE's bioactive compounds using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Liquid Chromatography–Diode Array Detection–Electro-Spray Ionization Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-ESI MS) analysis. We assessed the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of topical and oral BOE administration on rodent models with acute and subacute inflammation. Additionally, the antioxidant capacity of orally administered BOE was evaluated. The results showed that BOE possesses significant levels of phenolic compounds with a potent antioxidant activity. The topical administration of BOE demonstrated notable anti-inflammatory effects in the tested rodent models, which were comparable with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These findings suggest that BOE could be a valuable natural remedy for inflammation-related conditions, supporting its traditional uses and highlighting its potential for further pharmacological development. To address the problems of low recognition accuracy and slow processing speed when identifying harvest-stage cabbage heads in complex environments, this study proposes a lightweight harvesting period cabbage head recognition algorithm that improves upon YOLOv8n. We propose a YOLOv8n-Cabbage model, integrating an enhanced backbone network, the DyHead (Dynamic Head) module insertion, loss function optimization, and model light-weighting. To assess the proposed method, a comparison with extant mainstream object detection models is conducted. The experimental results indicate that the improved cabbage head recognition model proposed in this study can adapt cabbage head recognition under different lighting conditions and complex backgrounds. With a compact size of 4.8 MB, this model achieves 91% precision, 87.2% recall, and a mAP@50 of 94.5%—the model volume has been reduced while the evaluation metrics have all been improved over the baseline model. The growing demand for higher-quality food production in smaller soil areas points to optimized land use. Intercropping has the potential to increase yield, reduce pests and diseases, and boost biodiversity. This study, conducted at the Institute of Horticulture, Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, from 2017 to 2019, aimed to determine the effect of white cabbage intercropping with aromatic plants, calendula, French marigold, thyme, and sage on yield, mineral and biochemical composition. Aromatic plants are known to reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases, so this study aimed to determine whether aromatic plants affect the yield, mineral, and biochemical composition of white cabbage. The two-year observations demonstrated that aromatic plants did not affect or slightly affect the mineral composition of cabbage's primary macronutrients (N, P, K, Mg, and Ca). Cabbage's dry matter, sugars, and ascorbic acid content vary when grown intercropped with aromatic plants compared to monoculture. Although the results were comparable, sugar concentration was lower in all cabbage combinations than in monoculture. Lower nitrate levels were detected in cabbage monoculture, probably due to agro-meteorological circumstances. The highest cabbage yield was achieved by intercropping with thyme (7.25 t/ha) compared to monoculture (6.81 t/ha) in 2018. It was found that intercropping with aromatic plants had little effect on the biochemical composition of white cabbage. The study results suggest that French marigold and thyme can be grown together with white cabbage to improve the phytosanitary of vegetables without compromising the biochemical quality of the cabbages. However, the influence on biochemical composition, especially on the nitrate and glucosinolate levels, should be examined further, providing valuable insights for future research in this field. Cabbage (Brassica oleracea), a crop of major economic importance worldwide, is affected by numerous diseases, which are caused by a wide range of microorganisms, including fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, and viruses, which lead to important losses in yield and quality. The increasing availability of reference genomes of plant-associated microbes together with recent advances in metagenomic approaches provide new opportunities to identify microbes linked to distinct symptomatology in Brassica leaves. In this study, shotgun metagenomics was used to investigate the microbial community in leaves of B. oleracea plants from agricultural farmlands. Compared with conventional techniques based on culture-based methods, whole-genome shotgun sequencing allows the reliable identification of the microbial population inhabiting a plant tissue at the species level. Asymptomatic and symptomatic leaves showing different disease symptoms were examined. In the asymptomatic leaves, Xanthomonas species were the most abundant taxa. The relative abundance of bacterial and fungal communities varied depending on disease symptoms on the leaf. The microbiome of the leaves showing mild to severe levels of disease was enriched in bacterial populations (Sphingomonas, Methylobacterium, Paracoccus) and to a lesser degree in some fungal taxa, such as Alternaria and Colletotrichum (e.g., in leaves with high levels of necrotic lesions). Sclerotinia species were highly abundant in severely damaged leaves (S. sclerotium, S. trifolium, S. bolearis), followed by Botrytis species. The common and specific bacterial and fungal species associated to disease symptoms were identified. Finally, the analysis of the gene functions in the metagenomic data revealed enrichment in carbohydrate-active enzymes potentially involved in pathogenicity, whose distribution also varied among disease severity groups. The present study was performed to investigate the negative impact of salinity on the growth of Chinese flowering cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. chinensis var. parachinensis) and the ameliorative effects of quercetin dihydrate on the plant along with the elucidation of underlying mechanisms. The tolerable NaCl stress level was initially screened for the Chinese flowering cabbage plants during a preliminary pot trial by exposing the plants to salinity levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 mM) and 250 mM was adopted for further experimentation based on the findings. The greenhouse experiment was performed by adopting a completely randomized design using three different doses of quercetin dihydrate (50, 100, 150 µM) applied as a foliar treatment. The findings showed that the exposure salinity significantly reduced shoot length (46.5%), root length (21.2%), and dry biomass (32.1%) of Chinese flowering cabbage plants. Whereas, quercetin dihydrate applied at concentrations of 100, and 150 µM significantly diminished the effect of salinity stress by increasing shoot length (36.8- and 71.3%), root length (36.57- and 56.19%), dry biomass production (51.4- and 78.6%), Chl a (69.8- and 95.7%), Chl b (35.2- and 87.2%), and carotenoid contents (21.4- and 40.3%), respectively, compared to the plants cultivated in salinized conditions. The data of physiological parameters showed a significant effect of quercetin dihydrate on the activities of peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase enzymes. Interestingly, quercetin dihydrate increased the production of medicinally important glucosinolate compounds in Chinese flowering cabbage plants. Molecular docking analysis showed a strong affinity of quercetin dihydrate with three different stress-related proteins of B. rapa plants. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that quercetin dihydrate can increase the growth of Chinese flowering cabbage under both salinity and normal conditions, along with an increase in the medicinal quality of the plants. Further investigations are recommended as future perspectives using other abiotic stresses to declare quercetin dihydrate as an effective remedy to rescue plant growth under prevailing stress conditions. This study verified the in vitro activity of red cabbage and beetroot against the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and their relationship with the biomolecules' content. Fermentation of cabbage increased the total phenolic (~10%) and flavonoid contents (~14%), whereas decreased total phenolics/flavonoids in beetroot. Fermented cabbage exhibited higher ability against AGEs, i.e., 17% in the bovine serum albumin–methylglyoxal (BSA-MGO) model and 25% in the BSA–glucose model, while beetroot exhibited 23% and 18%, respectively. The major compounds of cabbage products were cyanidin 3-(sinapoyl)(sinapoyl)-diglucoside-5-glucoside, sinapic acid, and epicatechin. Syringic acid and epicatechin were predominantly present in fermented beetroot. 2,17-bidecarboxy- and 2,15,17-tridecarboxy-betanin were the major betalains. The use of artificial lighting in a total or supplementary way is a current trend, with growing interest due to the increase in the global population and climate change, which require high-yield, quality, and fast-growing crops with less water and a smaller carbon footprint. This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting on the production of basil, mustard, and red cabbage seedlings under controlled artificial conditions and in a greenhouse as a supplementary lighting regime. Under controlled conditions, the experiment was conducted with basil seedlings, comparing LED light with two wavelengths (purple and white light). In a greenhouse, mustard and red cabbage seedlings were evaluated under natural light (regular photoperiod) and with supplementary purple lighting of 3 h added to the photoperiod. The variables assessed were aerial fresh mass (AFM), aerial dry mass (ADM), root dry mass (RDM), plant length (PL), and leaf area (LA). Basil seedlings grown under purple light showed greater length and AFM than those grown under white light, with no effect on the production of secondary metabolites. In the greenhouse experiment, red cabbage seedlings showed an increase in AFM, ADM, and DRM with light supplementation, with no effect on LA. AFM showed no statistical difference in mustard seedlings, but the productive parameters LA, ADM, and DRM were higher with supplementation. None of the evaluated treatments influenced the production of phenolic compounds and flavonoids in the three species evaluated. Light supplementation affected red cabbage and mustard seedlings differently, promoting better development in some production parameters without affecting the production of phenolic compounds and flavonoids in either plant. Thus, light supplementation or artificial lighting can be considered a tool to enhance and accelerate the growth of seedlings, increasing productivity and maintaining the quality of the secondary metabolites evaluated. Thus, this technology can reduce operational costs, enable cultivation in periods of low natural light and photoperiod, and cultivate tropical species in temperate environments in completely artificial (indoor) conditions. Pierisin-1 was serendipitously discovered as a strong cytotoxic and apoptosis-inducing protein from pupae of the cabbage butterfly Pieris rapae against cancer cell lines. This 98-kDa protein consists of the N-terminal region (27 kDa) and C-terminal region (71 kDa), and analysis of their biological function revealed that pierisin-1 binds to cell surface glycosphingolipids on the C-terminal side, is taken up into the cell, and is cleaved to N- and C-terminal portions, where the N-terminal portion mono-ADP-ribosylates the guanine base of DNA in the presence of NAD to induce cellular genetic mutation and apoptosis. Unlike other ADP-ribosyltransferases, pieisin-1 was first found to exhibit DNA mono-ADP-ribosylating activity and show anti-cancer activity in vitro and in vivo against various cancer cell lines. Pierisin-1 was most abundantly produced during the transition from the final larval stage to the pupal stage of the cabbage butterfly, and this production was regulated by ecdysteroid hormones. This suggests that pierisn-1 might play a pivotal role in the process of metamorphosis. Moreover, pierisin-1 could contribute as a defense factor against parasitization and microbial infections in the cabbage butterfly. Pierisin-like proteins in butterflies were shown to be present not only among the subtribe Pierina but also among the subtribes Aporiina and Appiadina, and pierisin-2, -3, and -4 were identified in these butterflies. Furthermore, DNA ADP-ribosylating activities were found in six different edible clams. In this work, environmentally sound technologies for converting organic wastes into fertilizers to improve soil sustainability and crop yield have been identified and assessed. Wet wastes were combined with 50% wood sawdust and 50% wet wastes (Compost 1) or (10% Straw + 90% wet wastes) (Compost 2) to produce soil improvers with a balanced level of nutrients, and their effectiveness on soil ecosystem functioning have been tested and compared to horse manure (HM) and nitrogen–phosphorous–potassium (NPK) fertilizers. Unfertilized soil was used as a control. Soil chemical and biological properties have been detected after the harvesting of broccoli and red cabbage (90 days from the initial treatments). Three independent experiments have been conducted in an open field in a randomized complete block design with three replications (n = 9). The results showed that Compost 1 had the highest C/N ratio and cation exchange capacity (CEC), indicating a better humification of the wet material. Compost 1, even if it contained a minor amount of organic carbon, as well as less activity of fluorescein diacetate (FDA) and dehydrogenase (DHA) than Compost 2, was the most effective in improving soil quality, significantly increasing the labile fraction of organic matter, the oxidative enzyme (DHA), microbial biomass, and crop yield. Two years of field experiments were conducted at the National Field Observation Experiment Station for Efficient Agricultural Water Use in the Wuwei Oasis, Gansu Province. Based on the eddy correlation system, the evapotranspiration (ET) of the cabbage agroecosystem during the growth period was obtained and the main driving factors of ET changes were determined. The Root Zone Water Quality Model 2.0 version (RZWQM2 model) was used to simulate ET during the growth period. The results showed the following: (1) The ET of cabbage during the growth period was 260. 1 ± 24.2 mm, which was basically lower than other crops planted in this area. (2) Through partial correlation analysis and principal component analysis, it can be found that environmental and physiological factors jointly drive changes in ET. The main driving factors include gross primary productivity, net radiation, and water use efficiency. (3) The RZWQM2 model can simulate the ET of the cabbage agroecosystem well, especially in simulating the total ET value and its trend. The growth period ETs were 7.3% lower than the ETm. Cabbage is an important cash crop in Northwest China, and ET is an important component of the water cycle in the agroecosystem. Determining the main driving factors of ET is of great significance for the sustainable utilization of agricultural water resources in Northwest China. Pesticides are chemical substances used to kill or control various types of pests, which are hazardous for crops and animals. Pesticides may remain on or in foods after these are applied to crops. Pesticide residue in food has been a major global concern since there are direct and indirect health hazards associated with the regular consumption of foods with pesticide residues. Chlorpyrifos is one of the most used pesticides that has received much attention worldwide due to its detrimental health impact. The presence of chlorpyrifos residue in food crops can have both long-term and short-term effects on consumer health. Bangladesh is an agricultural country that uses a high volume of pesticides every year including chlorpyrifos. This experimental study aimed to analyze chlorpyrifos pesticide residue in locally grown cauliflower, cabbage, and eggplant samples by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique followed by a suitable extraction process. Commercially available cauliflower, cabbage, and eggplant samples along with samples cultivated with the recommended pesticide dose were collected for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Samples cultivated without chlorpyrifos were collected as control samples for the validation study. The method was validated with respect to accuracy, recovery, reproducibility, linearity, limit of detection, and limit of quantification. The method has a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.011 mg/kg and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.034 mg/kg. The experimental results were compared to the maximum residue level (MRL) to assess the human health impact. Chlorpyrifos residue was found in 44% of cauliflower samples with 91% of samples higher than MRL. The residue was found in 68% of cabbage samples with 53% of samples higher than MRL. For eggplant, the residue was found in 80% of the samples with 65% of samples higher than MRL. The risk assessment based on the residue level found in this study shows a potential health hazard of having a high concentration of chlorpyrifos residue in locally grown vegetables. Aliphatic glucosinolates are an abundant group of plant secondary metabolites in Brassica vegetables, with some of their degradation products demonstrating significant anti-cancer effects. The transcription factors MYB28 and MYB29 play key roles in the transcriptional regulation of aliphatic glucosinolates biosynthesis, but little is known about whether BoMYB28 and BoMYB29 are also modulated by upstream regulators or how, nor their gene regulatory networks. In this study, we first explored the hierarchical transcriptional regulatory networks of MYB28 and MYB29 in a model plant, then systemically screened the regulators of the three BoMYB28 homologs in cabbage using a yeast one-hybrid. Furthermore, we selected a novel RNA binding protein, BoRHON1, to functionally validate its roles in modulating aliphatic glucosinolates biosynthesis. Importantly, BoRHON1 induced the accumulation of all detectable aliphatic and indolic glucosinolates, and the net photosynthetic rates of BoRHON1 overexpression lines were significantly increased. Interestingly, the growth and biomass of these overexpression lines of BoRHON1 remained the same as those of the control plants. BoRHON1 was shown to be a novel, potent, positive regulator of glucosinolates biosynthesis, as well as a novel regulator of normal plant growth and development, while significantly increasing plants' defense costs. Negative effects of salt stress may be counteracted by adequate management of sulfated nutrition. Herein, we applied 3.50, 4.25, and 5.00 mM SO42− in a nutrient solution to counteract salt stress induced by 75 and 150 mM NaCl in cabbage cv. Royal. The increase in NaCl concentration from 75 to 150 mM reduced the contents of macronutrients and micronutrients in the shoot. When increasing from 3.50 to 4.25 mM SO42−, the contents of nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S) in shoots were enhanced, at both concentrations of NaCl. Increasing from 3.50 to 4.25 mM SO42− enhanced iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), and sodium (Na) concentrations with 75 mM NaCl. With 150 mM NaCl, the increase from 3.50 to 4.25 mM SO42− enhanced the contents of Cu and Mn, but also those of Na. Chlorophylls a, b, and total decreased as the concentration of SO42− increased in plants treated with 150 mM NaCl. With 75 mM NaCl, carotenoid concentration had a positive relationship with SO42−. Hence, the 4.25 mM SO42− concentration increased the contents of macronutrients and micronutrients in the presence of 75 mM NaCl, while, with 150 mM NaCl, it improved the contents of macronutrients except K. The chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b ratio remained close to 3 when the plants were treated with 5.00 mM SO42−, regardless of NaCl. Similarly, this level of SO42− increased the concentration of carotenoids, which translated into reductions in the total chlorophyll/carotenoid ratios, indicating a protective effect of the photosynthetic apparatus. Polyphenolic compounds are vital components of plants. However, their analysis is particularly difficult and challenging due to their similar chemical and structural properties. In this study, we developed a simple and reproducible HPLC-DAD protocol for determining nineteen pharmacologically important polyphenols in plant-based food samples, including fruits (apple, banana, grapefruit, peach, grapes, plum, and pear), vegetables (onion, cabbage, capsicum, garlic, lemon, tomato, potato, and spinach), and other edible items (corn, kidney beans, green tea, black tea, and turmeric). The reference standards were pooled into four different groups based on logP values and expected retention time to avoid compound co-elution. Black spot, caused by Alternaria brassicicola (Ab), poses a serious threat to crucifer production, and knowledge of how plants respond to Ab infection is essential for black spot management. In the current study, combined transcriptomic and metabolic analysis was employed to investigate the response to Ab infection in two cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) genotypes, Bo257 (resistant to Ab) and Bo190 (susceptible to Ab). A total of 1100 and 7490 differentially expressed genes were identified in Bo257 (R_mock vs. R_Ab) and Bo190 (S_mock vs. S_Ab), respectively. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed that "metabolic pathways", "biosynthesis of secondary metabolites", and "glucosinolate biosynthesis" were the top three enriched KEGG pathways in Bo257, while "metabolic pathways", "biosynthesis of secondary metabolites", and "carbon metabolism" were the top three enriched KEGG pathways in Bo190. Further analysis showed that genes involved in extracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, jasmonic acid signaling pathway, and indolic glucosinolate biosynthesis pathway were differentially expressed in response to Ab infection. Notably, when infected with Ab, genes involved in extracellular ROS production were largely unchanged in Bo257, whereas most of these genes were upregulated in Bo190. Metabolic profiling revealed 24 and 56 differentially accumulated metabolites in Bo257 and Bo190, respectively, with the majority being primary metabolites. Further analysis revealed that dramatic accumulation of succinate was observed in Bo257 and Bo190, which may provide energy for resistance responses against Ab infection via the tricarboxylic acid cycle pathway. Enzymatic browning, occurring on the cut surfaces of many popular fresh-cut fruit and vegetables due to wounding and the activity of endogenous polyphenyloxidase enzymes, is considered as the main reason for their rejection by consumers. In this study, water extracts were obtained from seeds of cabbage, sinapis, and wild rocket at 10 and 20% w/w seed:water ratios (SWE) and analyzed for total phenolic compounds (TPC) and antioxidant capacity (AC). The extract was then applied on cut surfaces of mid rib segments of lettuce leaves for 1 or 3 min. The segments were stored at 7 °C for 14 days. The SWE's inhibitory capacity on enzymatic browning were measured by CIELAB color coordinates L* a* and b* and expressed as second derivatives, their % inhibition and different indices. An additional visual acceptance measurement and calculation of shelf life was also performed. The seed extracts of cabbage at 10–20% and wild rocket at 20% showed the highest anti-browning efficacy (comparable to 25 mM potassium metabisulfite control) along with TPC and AC. A high % of seed:water extract and increased exposure time led to a considerable increase in shelf life, visual score, % inhibition of browning or whitening index of the extracts of all seed sources. Chromatometric outcome data clearly showed that the visual data were more accurate than the chromatometric procedure (L*, a*, b* values, their derives ΔE, h°, C, Δh° and ΔC or calculated indices), although the latter could detect the differing degrees of browning development or its inhibition in treated and control segments during storage. Simple sequence repeats (SSRs), also known as microsatellites, stand out as the most crucial molecular markers in both animals and plants owing to their high polymorphism, extensive information content, ease of detection through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays, and widespread distribution across the genome. In this study, a total of 125,443 SSR loci were identified from the whole-genome sequence of B. oleracea, and 82,948 primer pairs for SSR have been designed. Furthermore, each primer pair is designated with a unique identifier (ranging from BolSSR00001 to BolSSR82984). Our findings indicated that certain markers within them could be transferred to other cruciferous crops. In addition, a total of 336 pairs of SSR primers have been used to screen the polymorphism between the bolting-resistant and bolting-easy gene pools. After the test of verification with F2 generation individual plants, we obtained an SSR dominant marker, BolSSR040196, linked with bolting-resistant locus in cabbage, and the genetic distance between this SSR marker and the bolting-resistant locus was 10.69 cM. Moreover, BolSSR040196 is located on the C05 chromosome with a CT motif, characterized by a repeat of 9 in bolting-easy plants and 11 in bolting-resistant plants. Haplotype analysis showed that the correct prediction rate reached 82.35%. The management of vegetable waste and byproducts is a global challenge in the agricultural industry. As a commonly consumed vegetable crop, cruciferous vegetables marked higher amounts of wastage during their supply chain processes, with a significant contribution from cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. Therefore, the sustainable and resource-efficient utilization of discarded materials is crucial. This review explores potential applications of cruciferous vegetable waste and byproducts, spotlighting cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli in food, medicinal, and other industries. Their significance of being utilized in value-added applications is addressed, emphasizing important biomolecules, technologies involved in the valorization process, and future aspects of practical applications. Cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli generate waste and low-processing byproducts, including leaves, stems, stalks, and rot. Most of them contain high-value biomolecules, including bioactive proteins and phytochemicals, glucosinolates, flavonoids, anthocyanins, carotenoids, and tocopherols. Interestingly, isothiocyanates, derived from glucosinolates, exhibit strong anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity through various interactions with cellular molecules and the modulation of key signaling pathways in cells. Improving the thermal storage stability of nanosuspension concentrate (SC) prepared from low-melting-point pesticide is a recognized problem. In this work, using pyraclostrobin as the raw material, 25 wt% of pyraclostrobin nano-SC was prepared through a water-based grinding method, and the optimal grinding conditions were obtained as follows: a grinding time of 23 h, D-3911 as dispersant and a dispersant dosage of 12 wt%. The pyraclostrobin nano-SC D90 size prepared based on this best formula was 216 nm. Adding glycerin could improve the stability of nano-SC at room temperature, but its thermal storage stability was still poor. For this problem, sodium lignosulfonate and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (NaLS/CTAB) colloidal spheres were prepared through electrostatic and hydrophobic self-assembly and characterized. The delamination and precipitation of nano-SC can be significantly improved by adding an appropriate amount of colloidal spheres, and the nano-SC D90 size decreased from 2726 to 1023 nm after 7 days of thermal storage. Farmland experiments indicated the control efficiency of pyraclostrobin nano-SC against flowering cabbage downy mildew disease was about 30% higher than that of SC. Vegetables have a short period of freshness, and therefore, the purchase of vegetables has to be carefully matched with sales, especially in the "small production and big market" setting prevalent in China. Therefore, it is worthwhile to develop a systematic and comprehensive mathematical model of replenishment plans and pricing strategies for each category of vegetables and individual products. In this paper, we analyze the following three questions: Question One: What is the distribution law and relationship between the sales volume of vegetable categories and single products? Question Two: What is the relationship between total sales volume and cost-plus pricing of vegetable categories? And is it possible to provide the daily total replenishment and pricing strategy of each vegetable category for the following week to maximize supermarket profit? Question Three: How can we incorporate the market demand for single vegetable products into a profit-maximizing program for supermarkets? Is it possible to further formulate the replenishment plan requirements for single products? To answer the first question, we created pivot tables to analyze occupancy. We found that mosaic leaves, peppers, and edible mushrooms accounted for a larger proportion of occupacy, while cauliflowers, aquatic rhizomes, and eggplants accounted for a smaller proportion. For the single items, lettuce, cabbage, green pepper, screw pepper, enoki mushroom, and shiitake mushroom accounted for a large proportion of their respective categories. We used the Pearson correlation coefficient and the Mfuzz package based on fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm to analyze the correlation between vegetable categories and single products. We found that there was a strong correlation between vegetable categories. Moreover, the sale of vegetable items belonging to the same category exhibited the same patterns of change over time. In order to address the second question, we established the LightGBM sales forecasting model. Combined with previous sales data, we forecasted and planned an efficient daily replenishment volume for each vegetable category in the coming week. In addition, we developed a pricing strategy for vegetable categories to maximize supermarket profits. For the third question, we built a dynamic programming model combining an optimal replenishment volume with a product pricing strategy for single items, which let the supermarket maximize its expected profits. Farmland soil respiration (Rs) significantly impacts the global carbon (C) cycle. Although nitrogen (N) can promote crop growth and increase yields, its relationship with Rs and its constituents, including autotrophic respiration (Ra) and heterotrophic respiration (Rh), remains unclear. Therefore, a field study was carried out in a cabbage (Brassica pekinensis Rupr) system to probe the impact of N addition on Rs, Ra, and Rh. Five levels of N addition, including 0 kg N hm−2·yr−1 (N0), 50 kg N hm−2·yr−1 (N50), 100 kg N hm−2·yr−1 (N100), 150 kg N hm−2·yr−1 (N150), and 200 kg N hm−2·yr−1 (N200), started in March 2022. The Rs (Ra and Rh) and soil samples were measured and collected twice a month. The findings revealed the following: (1) N fertilizer enhanced Ra while reducing Rs and Rh; (2) soil temperature (ST), belowground net primary productivity (BNPP), soil inorganic N (SIN), and soil total C/total N (C/N) were the significant elements influencing Ra, and microbial biomass carbon (MBC), SIN, and microbial diversity (MD) were the primary factors influencing Rh; (3) partial least squares-path models (PLS-PM) showed that ST and SIN directly impacted Rh, while ST and BNPP tangentially influenced Ra; (4) 150 kg N hm−2·yr−1 was the ideal N addition rate for the cabbage in the region. In summary, the reactions of Ra and Rh to N fertilizer in the Northeast Plains are distinct. To comprehend the underlying processes of Rs, Ra, and Rh, further long-term trials involving various amounts of N addition are required, particularly concerning worsening N deposition. Chinese flowering cabbage is an important bolting stem vegetable widely grown in southern China, but severe losses caused by soft rot disease are very common in this crop. The MYB transcription factor (TF) family is the largest TF family in plants and plays diverse roles in response to stresses. However, the responses of MYB TFs to biotic stress in Chinese flowering cabbage have not been systematically studied. Herein, 255 R2R3-MYB genes were identified in the genome of Chinese flowering cabbage and classified into 29 subgroups based on phylogenetic comparisons with Arabidopsis thaliana. Gene duplication events involved 182 gene duplication pairs, and we found that two tandem duplication events involving R2R3-MYB genes in Chinese flowering cabbage may also affect gene family expansion. Transcriptome data analysis indicated that MYB TF genes are highly enriched in differentially expressed gene (DEG) sets. Combined with phylogenetic and transcriptome analysis, we identified 12 R2R3-MYB genes that potentially play a role in the response to soft rot stress. Not only is solving freshwater resource shortages effective but also an important measure for realizing the sustainable development of agriculture through the development and use of unconventional water resources. This pot experiment investigated the role of exogenous silicon in the risk of secondary soil salinization and the growth physiology of Lvxiu pakchoi cabbage under irrigation by using brackish water alone (BW), reclaimed water alone (RW), and compound irrigation with brackish water and reclaimed water at a ratio of 1:1, as well as the distribution of silicon in a soil–crop system. The results showed that with the extension of the spraying period of silicon fertilizer, the electrical conductivity (EC) decreased under 1:1 compound irrigation. The pH values in all treatments ranged from 7.95 to 8.10 without a potential risk of alkalization. Spraying silicon fertilizer had a positive effect on increasing the ratio of exchangeable potassium to sodium in soil. Spraying silicon fertilizer significantly reduced the percentage of exchangeable sodium (ESP) and the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) in soils irrigated using BW, and increased the soil ESP and SAR under compound irrigation and RW irrigation, but these factors did not exceed the threshold of soil salinization. The proper application of silicon fertilizer had no significant effect on the total silicon content in the soil but increased the total silicon content in the plants to some extent. In addition, the yield was improved through proper silicon fertilizer application. In summary, exogenous silicon has positive effects on soil physical and chemical properties and crop growth, and relieves secondary salinization risk under compound irrigation via brackish water and reclaimed water. To address the current problems of poor seed-filling performance and seed leakage of the pneumatic seed filler for cabbage, we designed a pneumatic disturbing precision seed filler for cabbage based on the auxiliary disturbing seed-filling method. This seeder can completely perturb the seed population entering the bottom of the seed box casing during the seed-filling process, thereby increasing the initial velocity of the cabbage seeds, and facilitating the smooth progress of the seed-filling process. Firstly, we carried out a theoretical analysis based on the particle dynamics of the seed-filling process of the seeder and obtained the influencing factors affecting the seed-filling performance of the seeder. Secondly, through EDEM discrete element simulation, the average speed of the seed population, the disturbance frequency, and the degree of disturbance were used as the indicators to select the seed discharge disk structure with the best seed-filling performance. In the experimental aspect, a four-factor three-level orthogonal standardized test was conducted to evaluate the seed filling performance of the planter, using the seed suction qualification rate and the seed leakage rate as the evaluation indexes. The optimal structure of the seed discharge tray was selected through polarity analysis and ANOVA. The optimal combination of parameters for the seed-filling process of the planter was obtained; linear serrated disk, 40 rpm disk rotation speed, −2500 Pa negative fan pressure, and 1.2 mm aperture diameter. After comparative validation tests, the seed suction qualification rate of the seed absorber was 95.32%, and the leakage rate was 3.11%, which was in line with the agronomic planting of Chinese cabbage seeds. In light of expected climate change, it is important to seek nature-based solutions that can contribute to the protection of our planet as well as to help overcome the emerging adverse changes. In an agricultural context, increasing plant resistance to abiotic stress seems to be crucial. Therefore, the scope of the presented research was focused on the application of botanical extracts that exerted positive effects on model plants growing under controlled laboratory conditions, as well as plants subjected to sorbitol-induced osmotic stress. Foliar spraying increased the length and fresh mass of the shoots (e.g., extracts from Taraxacum officinale, Trifolium pratense, and Pisum sativum) and the roots (e.g., Solidago gigantea, Hypericum perforatum, and Pisum sativum) of cabbage seedlings grown under stressful conditions, as well as their content of photosynthetic pigments (Pisum sativum, Lens culinaris, and Hypericum perforatum) along with total phenolic compounds (Hypericum perforatum, Taraxacum officinale, and Urtica dioica). The antioxidant activity of the shoots measured with the use of DDPH (Pisum sativum, Taraxacum officinale, Urtica dioica, and Hypericum perforatum), ABTS (Trifolium pratense, Symphytum officinale, Valeriana officinalis, Pisum sativum, and Lens culinaris), and FRAP (Symphytum officinale, Valeriana officinalis, Urtica dioica, Hypericum perforatum, and Taraxacum officinale) assays was also enhanced in plants exposed to osmotic stress. Based on these findings, the most promising formulation based on Symphytum officinale was selected and subjected to transcriptomic analysis. The aim of this work is to describe the effect of convective drying (CD), vacuum drying (VD), infrared drying (IRD), low-temperature vacuum drying (LTVD) and freeze drying (FD) on bio-compound retention of red cabbage and its beneficial health properties. The total phenolics content (TPC), flavonoids (TFC), anthocyanin (TAC) and glucosinolates (TGC) were determined by spectrophotometry. The profiles of phenolic acids, amino acids and fatty acids were determined by HPLC-UV-DAD, LC-DAD and GC-FID, respectively. Antioxidant potential was verified by DPPH and ORAC assays. The antiproliferative activity was measured in the human gastric cell line (AGS). Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate and arachidonic acid models. VD showed high values of TPC = 11.89 ± 0.28 mg GAE/g d.m.; TFC = 11.30 ± 0.9 mg QE/g d.m.; TAC = 0.265 ± 0.01 mg Cya3glu/g d.m.; and TGC = 51.15 ± 3.31 µmol SE/g d.m. Caffeic acid, ferulic acid and sinapic acid were identified. The predominant amino acid and fatty acid were glutamic acid and γ–linolenic acid, respectively. The antioxidant potential was dependent on drying methods for both DPPH and ORAC assays. Dried red cabbage extracts showed clear anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative activity. The article investigates the effects of different cropping rotations on soil moisture and economic benefit. Cabbage–maize–cabbage (CMC), beans–maize–cabbage (BMC), and cabbage–cabbage–cabbage (CCC) treatments were set up to study the effects of different crop rotation combinations on soil water storage, evapotranspiration (ET), water use efficiency (WUE), and economic benefit. The results showed that the average soil moisture content decreased initially and then increased with crop rotation, whereas it continued to decrease with continuous cabbage cropping as the crop grew. CMC reduced ET, whereas BMC increased ET from the nodulation to maturation stages of cabbage compared with CCC in the third experimental year. WUE of different crops showed that cabbage > maize > beans. The economic benefit of the CMC was higher than the other treatments in the third planting year. The return of agricultural waste to the field is one of the most effective strategies of increasing crop yield, improving the soil's physicochemical properties, and improving the soil rhizosphere environment. In the present study, sheep manure (SM), cow manure (CM), tail vegetable (TV), mushroom residue (MR), and corn straw (CS) were used as raw materials, and no fertilization (CK1) and local commercial organic fertilizer (CK2) treatments were used as controls. Eight composts were set up using specific mass ratios of different compost materials. After fermentation, field experiments were conducted to determine the cabbage yield, soil's physicochemical properties, and soil rhizosphere conditions. The eight composts increased the soil organic matter and nutrient contents significantly. Among the eight fermentation formulas, T6 (CM:CS:TV:SM = 1:1:2:6), T7 (MR:CS:TV:SM = 1:1:2:6), and T8 (CM:MR:CS:TV:SM = 1:1:1:2:5) were relatively effective. Therefore, high-throughput sequencing was performed on T6, T7, T8, CK1, and CK2. T6, T7, and T8 exhibited increased relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Actinomycetes, and Firmicutes, while the Acidobacteria abundance was decreased. In addition, Ascomycota's and Basidiomycetes' relative abundance decreased, and the oil chytrid and mortierella increased. The microbial community structure was affected significantly by pH, electrical conductivity, available potassium, available nitrogen, and organic matter. In general, the three composts increased yield by improving the soil's physicochemical properties, fertility, and microbial community structure. Among them, T6 had the most significant effect and is the optimal formula for use as a local organic cabbage fertilizer, and it could facilitate sustainable agricultural development.
