The thermal band of a satellite platform enables the measurement of land surface temperature (LST), which captures the spatial-temporal distribution of energy exchange between the Earth and the atmosphere. LST plays a critical role in simulation models, enhancing our understanding of physical and biochemical processes in nature. However, the limitations in swath width and orbit altitude prevent a single sensor from providing LST data with both high spatial and high temporal resolution. To tackle this challenge, the unmixing-based spatiotemporal fusion model (STFM) offers a promising solution by integrating data from multiple sensors. In these models, the surface reflectance is decomposed from coarse pixels to fine pixels using the linear unmixing function combined with fractional coverage. However, when downsizing LST through STFM, the linear mixing hypothesis fails to adequately represent the nonlinear energy mixing process of LST. Additionally, the original weighting function is sensitive to noise, leading to unreliable predictions of the final LST due to small errors in the unmixing function. To overcome these issues, we selected the U-STFM as the baseline model and introduced an updated version called the nonlinear U-STFM. This new model incorporates two deep learning components: the Dynamic Net (DyNet) and the Chang Ratio Net (RatioNet). The utilization of these components enables easy training with a small dataset while maintaining a high generalization capability over time. The MODIS Terra daytime LST products were employed to downscale from 1000 m to 30 m, in comparison with the Landsat7 LST products. Our results demonstrate that the new model surpasses STARFM, ESTARFM, and the original U-STFM in terms of prediction accuracy and anti-noise capability. To further enhance other STFMs, these two deep-learning components can replace the linear unmixing and weighting functions with minor modifications. Background—Despite global efforts to control tobacco use, smoking remains a leading cause of preventable diseases, mortality, and disparities, especially among individuals with mental health conditions. Smartphone apps have emerged as cost-effective tools to aid smokers in quitting; however, their evidence-based foundation remains understudied. This research conducted two searches to identify relevant apps: one through the scientific literature and the other from app stores. Methods—The study sought apps designed to assist smokers with mental health conditions in quitting. Searches were conducted in the scientific literature and major app stores. The apps found were evaluated for their basis in theory, features, and claimed effectiveness. Usage and rating scores were compared. Results—Among 23 apps found from app store search, only 10 (43%) were evidence-based and none had explicit reference to theory, while all apps identified in the literature were developed by applying theory. However, app store apps had significantly higher user numbers and ratings than those identified in the literature (mean rating 4.7 out of 5.0). Conclusion—Smokers with mental health conditions have limited support from currently available smoking cessation apps. Apps identified in the scientific literature lack sufficient use and longevity. Sustained support beyond research projects is crucial for enabling theoretically informed evidence-based apps to be available for people with mental health conditions, as is greater collaboration between developers and researchers to create apps that engage with end-user design. Gravity wave (GW) activities play a prominent role in the complex coupling process of wave–wave and wave–background circulation around mid-low-latitude and equatorial areas. The wavelengths are wide, from about 10 m to 100 km, with a period from minutes to hours. However, the oscillations of GW activities are apparently different between the period bands of 0.1 to 1 h (HF) and 1 to 5 h (LF). To further understand the characteristics of GW activities, the neutral winds during 2008–2009 with a resolution of 3 min obtained from a medium-frequency (MF) radar in Kunming (25.6° N, 103.8° E) were analyzed. Using two numerical filters, the HF and LF GWs were estimated. Interestingly, the power spectral density grows larger as the frequency increases. It linearly falls with decreasing frequency when the period is less than 2 h. The seasonal variations in both HF and LF GWs are strongly demonstrated in August–September, November, and February–March with maximum meridional variances of 1100 m2 s−2 and 500 m2 s−2 and maximum zonal variances of 800 m2 s−2 and 350 m2 s−2 in, respectively. The turbulent velocity was also calculated and shows similar oscillations with GW activities. So far, the least is known about the D-region ionosphere out of the entire ionosphere due to the lack of a conventional detecting method and continuous data accumulation. Medium frequency (MF) radar is an important conventional tool for understanding the D-region ionosphere by measuring the electron density (Ne) within the height range of 60–90 km. To investigate the statistical variation of the D-region, especially at the mid-low latitude area, this study presents the statistical variations in the D-region Ne with the solar zenith angle (SZA), season, and altitude observed by Kunming MF radar (25.6° N, 103.8° E) under low solar activity (2008–2009). The diurnal variation of Ne behaves like typical diurnal changes, which are closely consistent with the SZA. The outstanding feature, the diurnal asymmetry phenomenon, significantly appears in different seasons and at different altitudes. The Ne has obvious semi-annual characteristics, and is larger in summer and fall and the smallest in winter. Compared to other seasons, the variation in the Ne with altitude is the most stable in summer. Due to the impacts of the highest SZA, the value of Ne in winter is the smallest, with a maximum value of less than 300 electrons/cm3, and the largest in summer and fall, with a maximum of 472 electrons/cm3. Particularly, the peaks of Ne above 76 km do not always appear at the time when the SZA is the smallest (at noon). Both the simulations by the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI2016) and observations using MF radar present a strong positive correlation with solar radiation. Meanwhile, it cannot be ignored that there were still large differences between the simulations and observations. To quantitatively analyze the differences between the observations and simulations, the observed value was subtracted from the simulated value. The results show that the maximum value between them was up to 350 electrons/cm3, and the minimum difference appeared at around 72 km, with a value less than 100 electrons/cm3. Shenzhen is a crucial city in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). With high-intensity land development and rapid population growth, the ocean has become an essential space for expansion, leading to significant variations in water quality in the coastal area of Shenzhen. Water clarity (Zsd) is a key indicator for evaluating water quality. We applied the quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA) to Sentinel-2 data and retrieved the Zsd of the coastal area of Shenzhen. By adjusting the red band for distinguishing water types, we avoided underestimating Zsd for clear water. This study pioneered the production of a 10 m Zsd product for the coastal area of Shenzhen from 2016 to 2021. The results showed that the coastal area of Shenzhen exhibited a spatial distribution pattern with low Zsd in the west and high in the east, with Pearl River Estuary (PRE: 0.41–0.67 m) and Shenzhen Bay (SZB: 0.30–0.58 m) being lower than Dapeng Bay (DPB: 2.7–2.9 m) and Daya Bay (DYB: 2.5–2.9 m). We analyzed the seasonal and interannual variations and driving factors of the four areas, where PRE and SZB showed similar variation patterns, while DPB and DYB showed similar variation patterns. PRE and SZB are important estuaries in southern China, significantly affected by anthropogenic activities. DPB and DYB are important marine aquaculture areas, mainly affected by natural factors (wind speed, precipitation, and sea level). The Zsd of the coastal area of Shenzhen, along with the analysis of its results and driving factors, contributes to promoting local water resource protection and providing a reference for formulating relevant governance policies. Locust plagues inflict severe agricultural damage. Climate change-induced extreme events like rainfall and droughts have expanded locust habitats. These new areas, often beyond routine monitoring, could become potential high-risk locust areas (PHRLA). Quantitatively understanding the outbreak mechanism driving drought and flood dynamics is crucial for identifying PHRLA, but such studies are scarce. To address this gap, we conducted a case study on locust outbreaks in Xiashan Reservoir, the largest reservoir in Shandong Province, China, in 2017 and 2018. Using time series satellite imagery and meteorological products, we quantitatively analyzed how drought–flood dynamics and temperature affect locust habitats, reproduction, and aggregation. Employing an object-oriented random forest classifier, we generated locust habitat classification maps with 93.77% average overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient of 0.90. Combined with meteorological analysis, we found that three consecutive drought years from 2014 to 2016 reduced the water surface area by 75%, expanding suitable habitats (primarily reeds and weeds) to cover 60% of the reservoir. Warm winters and high temperatures during locust key growth periods, coupled with expanding suitable habitats, promoted multi-generational locust reproduction. However, substantial flooding events in 2017 and 2018, driven by plentiful rainfall during key growth periods, reduced suitable habitats by approximately 54% and 29%, respectively. This compression led to high locust density, causing the locust plague and high-density spots of locusts (HDSL). Our study elucidates locust plague outbreak mechanisms under dynamic drought and flood environments. Based on this, we propose an approach to identify PHRLA by monitoring changes in drought and flood patterns around water bodies and variations in suitable habitat size and distribution, as well as surrounding topography. These findings hold significant implications for enhancing locust monitoring and early warning capabilities, reducing pesticide usage, and ensuring food and ecological security and sustainable agriculture. The basic (region) leucine zippers (bZIPs) are evolutionarily conserved transcription factors widely distributed in eukaryotic organisms. In plants, they are not only involved in growth and development, defense and stress responses and regulation of physiological processes but also play a pivotal role in regulating secondary metabolism. To explore the function related to the bZIP gene family in Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni, we identified 105 SrbZIP genes at the genome-wide level and classified them into 12 subfamilies using bioinformation methods. Three main classes of cis-acting elements were found in the SrbZIP promoter regions, including development-related elements, defense and stress-responsive elements and phytohormone-responsive elements. Through protein–protein interaction network of 105 SrbZIP proteins, SrbZIP proteins were mainly classified into four major categories: ABF2/ABF4/ABI5 (SrbZIP51/SrbZIP38/SrbZIP7), involved in phytohormone signaling, GBF1/GBF3/GBF4 (SrbZIP29/SrbZIP63/SrbZIP60) involved in environmental signaling, AREB3 (SrbZIP88), PAN (SrbZIP12), TGA1 (SrbZIP69), TGA4 (SrbZIP82), TGA7 (SrbZIP31), TGA9 (SrbZIP95), TGA10 (SrbZIP79) and HY5 (SrbZIP96) involved in cryptochrome signaling, and FD (SrbZIP72) promoted flowering. The transcriptomic data showed that SrbZIP genes were differentially expressed in six S. rebaudiana cultivars ('023', '110', 'B1188', '11-14', 'GP' and 'GX'). Moreover, the expression levels of selected 15 SrbZIP genes in response to light, abiotic stress (low temperature, salt and drought), phytohormones (methyl jasmonate, gibberellic acid and salicylic acid) treatment and in different tissues were analyzed utilizing qRT-PCR. Some SrbZIP genes were further identified to be highly induced by factors affecting glycoside synthesis. Among them, three SrbZIP genes (SrbZIP54, SrbZIP63 and SrbZIP32) were predicted to be related to stress-responsive terpenoid synthesis in S. rebaudiana. The protein–protein interaction network expanded the potential functions of SrbZIP genes. This study firstly provided the comprehensive genome-wide report of the SrbZIP gene family, laying a foundation for further research on the evolution, function and regulatory role of the bZIP gene family in terpenoid synthesis in S. rebaudiana. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are two core cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It is increasingly important to regulate water quality in urban development. The Forel–Ule Index (FUI) can be obtained by optical data and is an important indicator. Therefore, we used Sentinel-2 to calculate the FUI of 41 lakes and reservoirs in Guangzhou and Shenzhen from January to December in 2016–2021, and analyzed their spatio-temporal variations, including spatial distributions, seasonal variations, and inter-annual variations. We also performed a correlation analysis of driving factors. In Guangzhou, the FUI was low in the north and west, and high in the south and east. In Shenzhen, the FUI was high in the west and low in the east. Moreover, 68% of the lakes and reservoirs in Guangzhou exhibited seasonal variations, with a low FUI in summer and autumn, and high levels in spring and winter. Shenzhen had the lowest FUI in autumn. Furthermore, 36% of the lakes and reservoirs in Guangzhou exhibited increasing inter-annual variations, whereas Shenzhen exhibited stable and decreasing inter-annual variations. Among the 41 lakes and reservoirs analyzed herein, the FUI of 10 water areas were positively correlated with precipitation, while the FUI of 31 water areas were negatively correlated with precipitation. Increased precipitation leads to an increase in external pollutants and sediment, as well as the resuspension of substances in the water, resulting in more turbid water. Therefore, an increase in precipitation is positively correlated with the FUI, whereas a decrease in precipitation is negatively correlated with the FUI. Featured Application: Change detection for remote sensing images. Aiming at the problem of misdetection caused by the traditional texture characteristic extraction model, which does not describe the correlation among multiple bands, an object-oriented remote sensing image change detection method based on a color co-occurrence matrix is proposed. First, the image is divided into multi-scale objects by graph-based superpixel segmentation, and the optimal scale is determined by the overall goodness F-measure (OGF). Then, except for the extraction of the spectral features, the multi-channel texture features based on the color co-occurrence matrix (CCM) are extracted to consider the correlation among multiple bands. To accurately find the representative features to overcome the impact of feature redundancy, a cumulative backward search strategy (CBSS) is further designed. Finally, the change detection is completed by inputting the difference image of dual time points to the trained random forest model. Taking Shenzhen and Dapeng as the study areas, with Sentinel-2 and Skysat images under different spatial resolutions, and the forest–bareland change type as an example, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by qualitative and quantitative analyses. Tropospheric correction is a crucial step for interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) monitoring of small deformation magnitude. However, most of the corrections are implemented without a rigorous evaluation of their influences on InSAR measurements. In this paper, we present three statistical metrics to evaluate the correction performance. Firstly, we propose a time series decomposition method to estimate the tropospheric noise and mitigate the bias caused by ground displacement. On this basis, we calculate the root-mean-square values of tropospheric noise to assess the general performance of tropospheric corrections. Then, we propose the use of semi-variograms with model-fitted range and sill to investigate the reduction of distance-dependent signals, and Spearman's rank correlation between phase and elevation to evaluate the mitigation of topography-correlated signals in hilly areas. The applicability and limitations were assessed on the weather model-derived corrections, a representative spatiotemporal filtering method, and the integration of the two mainstream methods. Furthermore, we notice that the persistent scatter InSAR processing resulted in two components, the primary and secondary images' contribution to the tropospheric and orbit errors. The all-sky meteor radar is an important means to detect 70–110 km wind fields. Previous studies have shown that the wind field retrieved by all-sky meteor radars is closely related to the meteor count detected by the radar. However, the precision of the wind field is still unclear. In this paper, the influence of the meteor counts detected by two all-sky meteor radars operating simultaneously at Kunming station on wind fields is analyzed based on the observations of the two radars from 1 November 2013 to 31 December 2014. First, the meteor counts detected by the two meteor radars are approximately 100–3000 per hour, and the meteor count detected by the 37.5 MHz meteor radar is more than that according to the 53.1 MHz meteor radar. The meteor counts detected by the two radars vary with the local time and altitude. The meteor counts detected from 20 UTC to 02 UTC are the largest in the altitude range of 84–92 km, while the meteor counts detected from 09 UTC to 15 UTC are the lowest at other altitudes. Second, the more meteors detected by the two radars, the smaller the wind field differences retrieved by the two radars, and the closer the wind fields are to the real average wind field. Third, because the performance of the two radars is basically identical, except that the meteor counts detected by the two radars are different due to their different operating frequencies, the meteor count is the main system error of the wind fields retrieved, and the errors can be determined by the correlation coefficients of the wind fields retrieved by the two radars. Soil erosion often leads to land degradation, agricultural production reduction, and environmental deterioration, which seriously restricts the sustainable development of regions. Clarifying the driving factors of soil erosion is the premise of preventing soil erosion. Given the lack of current research on the driving factors/force changes of soil erosion in different regions or under different erosion intensity grades, this paper pioneered to use machine learning methods to address this problem. Firstly, the widely used (Revised) Universal Soil Loss Equation ((R)USLE) framework was applied to simulate the spatial distribution of soil erosion. Then, the K-fold algorithm was used to evaluate the accuracy and stability of five machine learning algorithms for fitting soil erosion. The random forest (RF) method performed best, with average accuracy reaching 86.35%. Then, the Permutation Importance (PI) and the Partial Dependence Plot (PDP) methods based on RF were introduced to quantitatively analyze the main driving factors under different geological conditions and the driving force changes of each factor under different erosion intensity grades, respectively. Results showed that the main drivers of soil erosion in Chongqing and Guizhou were cover management factors (PI: 0.4672, 0.4788), while that in Sichuan was slope length and slope factor (PI: 0.6165). Under different erosion intensity grades, the driving force of each factor shows nonlinear and complex inhibitory or promoting effects with factor value changing. These findings can provide scientific guidance for the refined management of soil erosion, which is significant for halting or reversing land degradation and achieving sustainable use of land resources. The unmixing-based spatiotemporal fusion model is one of the effective ways to solve limitations in temporal and spatial resolution tradeoffs in a single satellite sensor. By using fusion data from different satellite platforms, high resolution in both temporal and spatial domains can be produced. However, due to the ill-posed characteristic of the unmixing function, the model performance may vary due to the different model setups. The key factors affecting the model stability most and how to set up the unmixing strategy for data downscaling remain unknown. In this study, we use the multisource land surface temperature as the case and focus on the three major factors to analyze the stability of the unmixing-based fusion model: (1) the definition of the homogeneous change regions (HCRs), (2) the unmixing levels, and (3) the number of HCRs. The spatiotemporal data fusion model U-STFM was used as the baseline model. The results show: (1) The clustering-based algorithm is more suitable for detecting HCRs for unmixing. Compared with the multi-resolution segmentation algorithm and k-means algorithm, the ISODATA clustering algorithm can more accurately describe LST's temporal and spatial changes on HCRs. (2) For the U-STFM model, applying the unmixing processing at the change ratio level can significantly reduce the additive and multiplicative noise of the prediction. (3) There is a tradeoff effect between the number of HCRs and the solvability of the linear unmixing function. The larger the number of HCRs (less than the available MODIS pixels), the more stable the model is. (4) For the fusion of the daily 30 m scale LST product, compared with STARFM and ESTARFM, the modified U-STFM (iso_USTFM) achieved higher prediction accuracy and a lower error ( R   2 : 0.87 and RMSE:1.09 k). With the findings of this study, daily fine-scale LST products can be predicted based on the unmixing-based spatial–temporal model with lower uncertainty and stable prediction. Mapping rubber plantations in a large area is still challenging in high-cloud-cover and complex-vegetation landscapes. Existing studies were often confined to the discrimination of rubber trees from natural forests and rarely concerned other tropical tree species. The Sentinel-2 constellation, with improved spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution, offers new opportunities to improve previous efforts. In this paper, four Hainan Sentinel-2 composites were generated based on the detailed phenological stages delineation of rubber trees. The random forest classifier with different phenological stage combinations was utilized to discuss the capability of Sentinel-2 composites to map rubber plantations. The optimal resultant rubber plantation map had a producer's accuracy, user's accuracy, and F1 score of 81%, 84.4%, and 0.83, respectively. According to the rubber plantation map in 2020, there was a total of 5473 km2 rubber plantations in Hainan, which was 2.93% higher than the statistical data from the Hainan Statistical Yearbook. According to the Hainan Statistical Yearbook, the area-weighted accuracy at the county level was 82.47%. The mean decrease in accuracy (MDA) was used to assess the feature importance of the four phenological stages. Results showed that the recovery growth stage played the most important role, and the resting stage was the least important. Moreover, in terms of the combinations of phenological stages, any dataset group with two phenological stages was sufficient for rubber tree discrimination. These findings were instrumental in facilitating the rubber plantation mapping annually. This study has demonstrated the potential of Sentinel-2 data, with the phenology-based image-compositing technique, for mapping rubber plantations in large areas with complex vegetation landscapes. For the micro-milling of hard and brittle materials, to avoid crack formation, a tool with ductile milling mode is required. Composite electrodeposition technology was used to prepare a Ni–diamond coating on the surface of brass. The surface microstructure, composition and surface roughness of the coating were studied with a scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and roughness tester. The adhesion strength was studied by scratch test, the wear resistance was analyzed by wear test, and the corrosion resistance was investigated by Tafel curves and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS). It was found that the distribution of diamond particles of the Ni–diamond coating was relatively uniform, and the content was relatively high. The internal stress of the coating prepared by the composite electrodeposition technology was very low. With the incorporation of the diamond particles, the surface roughness of the coating tended to decrease. The wear experiment showed that the wear scar diameter of the corresponding glass ball for the Ni coating was 1.775 mm and the roughness was 13.88 ± 2.811 µm, while that for the Ni–diamond coating was 2.680 mm and 8.35 ± 0.743 µm, respectively, indicating that the tool coating with uniform diamond particles had a strong ability to process workpieces with significantly improved surface quality. The particle press-in mechanism not only improved the wear resistance of the coating, but helped to prolong the service life of the tool. The results of the EIS test and Tafel curves showed that the Ni–diamond coating had a lower corrosion current, and the corrosion resistance of the coating surface was improved. The experimental results showed that the micro-diamond coating prepared by the composite electrodeposition technology had good bonding strength, low internal stress, and significantly improved wear resistance and corrosion resistance. This study compares the hourly mesospheric horizontal winds observed by two collocated and independent low-latitude meteor radars operating at 37.5 MHz and 53.1 MHz in Kunming, China (25.6°N, 103.8°E). Upon analyzing simultaneously detected meteor echoes, we find a fixed angular deviation between the baselines of the two meteor radar antenna arrays within the east–north–up coordinate system. Then, we correct the deviation in the antenna azimuth direction using a novel method and recalculate the horizontal zonal and meridional winds. A comparison of the results before and after the correction shows strong consistency between the winds observed by both meteor radars within the entire detection altitude range. Furthermore, we summarize the performance of different techniques for measuring mesospheric winds. Deep-learning-based object detectors have substantially improved state-of-the-art object detection in remote sensing images in terms of precision and degree of automation. Nevertheless, the large variation of the object scales makes it difficult to achieve high-quality detection across multiresolution remote sensing images, where the quality is defined by the Intersection over Union (IoU) threshold used in training. In addition, the imbalance between the positive and negative samples across multiresolution images worsens the detection precision. Recently, it was found that a Cascade region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) can potentially achieve a higher quality of detection by introducing a cascaded three-stage structure using progressively improved IoU thresholds. However, the performance of Cascade R-CNN degraded when the fourth stage was added. We investigated the cause and found that the mismatch between the ROI features and the classifier could be responsible for the degradation of performance. Herein, we propose a Cascade R-CNN++ structure to address this issue and extend the three-stage architecture to multiple stages for general use. Specifically, for cascaded classification, we propose a new ensemble strategy for the classifier and region of interest (RoI) features to improve classification accuracy at inference. In localization, we modified the loss function of the bounding box regressor to obtain higher sensitivity around zero. Experiments on the DOTA dataset demonstrated that Cascade R-CNN++ outperforms Cascade R-CNN in terms of precision and detection quality. Hyperspectral remote sensing image classification has been widely employed for numerous applications, such as environmental monitoring, agriculture, and mineralogy. During such classification, the number of training samples in each class often varies significantly. This imbalance in the dataset is often not identified because most classifiers are designed under a balanced dataset assumption, which can distort the minority classes or even treat them as noise. This may lead to biased and inaccurate classification results. This issue can be alleviated by applying preprocessing techniques that enable a uniform distribution of the imbalanced data for further classification. However, it is difficult to add new natural features to a training model by artificial combination of samples by using existing preprocessing techniques. For minority classes with sparse samples, the addition of sufficient natural features can effectively alleviate bias and improve the generalization. For such an imbalanced problem, semi-supervised learning is a creative solution that utilizes the rich natural features of unlabeled data, which can be collected at a low cost in the remote sensing classification. In this paper, we propose a novel semi-supervised learning-based preprocessing solution called NearPseudo. In NearPseudo, pseudo-labels are created by the initialization classifier and added to minority classes with the corresponding unlabeled samples. Simultaneously, to increase reliability and reduce the misclassification cost of pseudo-labels, we created a feedback mechanism based on a consistency check to effectively select the unlabeled data and its pseudo-labels. Experiments were conducted on a state-of-the-art representative hyperspectral dataset to verify the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that NearPseudo can achieve better classification accuracy than other common processing methods. Furthermore, it can be flexibly applied to most typical classifiers to improve their classification accuracy. With the intervention of NearPseudo, the accuracy of random forest, k-nearest neighbors, logistic regression, and classification and regression tree increased by 1.8%, 4.0%, 6.4%, and 3.7%, respectively. A multi-field synchronous measurement system for the cavitation flow in a regulating valve was established. The system combines a high-speed full-flow field display system with a pressure measurement system to realize the simultaneous acquisition of cavitation shapes and pressure pulsations. Cavitation flow occurs near the throttle orifice, which is obviously a quasi-periodic behavior. The unsteady cavitation flow mainly includes three stages: the growth of the attached cavity, the fracture and shedding of the attached cavity and the growth and collapse of the free cavity. The time evolution of the cavitation behaviors is highly related with excited pressure fluctuations. With the increasing attached cavity area, the corresponding pressure in the flow field decreases slowly. When the attached cavity falls off and develops downstream, the cavity area decreases gradually, and the pressure increases gradually. When the free cavity shrinks and collapses, the pressure in the flow field reaches the peak value. The pressure pulsation and the change of cavity area have the same dominant frequency, around 2000 Hz, at the monitoring point in the upstream, throat and expansion monitoring points. Furthermore, with increasing inlet pressure, the mean and variance values of cavitation area become larger, and the excited pressure fluctuation at each measuring point becomes more intense. The mean value of pulsating pressure at the throat gradually increases, while the pressure in the expansion section presents a downward trend. The variance of pressure pulsation and the maximum pressure also increase gradually with the increase in inlet pressure. The change of cavitation area and the pressure pulsation in the regulating valve complement each other. The results in this paper could provide experimental guidance on optimizing the structure of the valve, inhibiting cavitation occurrence and prolonging the service life of the valve. The Fabry–Pérot interferometer (FPI) and meteor radar are two important techniques for measuring the horizontal wind field in mesopause region, the observations of which still lack comprehensive comparison. Kunming Observatory (25.6°N,103.8°E) has deployed both instruments in recent years and provides collocated meteor radar and FPI observations. The meteor radar measures the horizontal wind fields over 24 hours every day continuously, whereas the FPI can only work during the night with clear air condition. FPI horizontal wind data from the 892.0-nm airglow emission (with a peak height at ~87 km) from 26 January to 8 February 2019 were comparatively analyzed with simultaneous meteor radar observations, which cover the range between 80 and 90 km with a vertical resolution of 1.8 km. It was found that the temporal variations in the horizontal wind fields observed by the FPI and meteor radar were generally consistent with one another, with the highest 2-D correlation coefficients of 0.91 (0.88) at 88 (87) km for the meridional (zonal) wind, which agreed with the peak height of OH airglow emission observed by the TIMED/SABER instrument. In addition, the correlation coefficient for the weighted meteor radar horizontal wind by OH concentration between 86 and 88 km and 85 and 89 km increased slightly from 0.91 (0.89) to 0.92 (0.89) for the meridional (zonal) wind, which indicated the contribution of OH concentration beyond the peak height to the FPI wind observations. We also found that the absolute horizontal wind values detected by two instruments were linearly correlated with a slope of ~1.3 for both wind components, and meteor radar wind observations were usually larger than the FPI observations. The deep-learning-network performance depends on the accuracy of the training samples. The training samples are commonly labeled by human visual investigation or inherited from historical land-cover or land-use maps, which usually contain label noise, depending on subjective knowledge and the time of the historical map. Helping the network to distinguish noisy labels during the training process is a prerequisite for applying the model for training across time and locations. This study proposes an antinoise framework, the Weight Loss Network (WLN), to achieve this goal. The WLN contains three main parts: (1) the segmentation subnetwork, which any state-of-the-art segmentation network can replace; (2) the attention subnetwork (λ); and (3) the class-balance coefficient (α). Four types of label noise (an insufficient label, redundant label, missing label and incorrect label) were simulated by dilate and erode processing to test the network's antinoise ability. The segmentation task was set to extract buildings from the Inria Aerial Image Labeling Dataset, which includes Austin, Chicago, Kitsap County, Western Tyrol and Vienna. The network's performance was evaluated by comparing it with the original U-Net model by adding noisy training samples with different noise rates and noise levels. The result shows that the proposed antinoise framework (WLN) can maintain high accuracy, while the accuracy of the U-Net model dropped. Specifically, after adding 50% of dilated-label samples at noise level 3, the U-Net model's accuracy dropped by 12.7% for OA, 20.7% for the Mean Intersection over Union (MIOU) and 13.8% for Kappa scores. By contrast, the accuracy of the WLN dropped by 0.2% for OA, 0.3% for the MIOU and 0.8% for Kappa scores. For eroded-label samples at the same level, the accuracy of the U-Net model dropped by 8.4% for OA, 24.2% for the MIOU and 43.3% for Kappa scores, while the accuracy of the WLN dropped by 4.5% for OA, 4.7% for the MIOU and 0.5% for Kappa scores. This result shows that the antinoise framework proposed in this paper can help current segmentation models to avoid the impact of noisy training labels and has the potential to be trained by a larger remote sensing image set regardless of the inner label error. The spatial fragmentation of high-resolution remote sensing images makes the segmentation algorithm put forward a strong demand for noise immunity. However, the stronger the noise immunity, the more serious the loss of detailed information, which easily leads to the neglect of effective characteristics. In view of the difficulty of balancing the noise immunity and effective characteristic retention, an adaptive distance-weighted Voronoi tessellation technology is proposed for remote sensing image segmentation. The distance between pixels and seed points in Voronoi tessellation is established by the adaptive weighting of spatial distance and spectral distance. The weight coefficient used to control the influence intensity of spatial distance is defined by a monotone decreasing function. Following the fuzzy clustering framework, a fuzzy segmentation model with Kullback–Leibler (KL) entropy regularization is established by using multivariate Gaussian distribution to describe the spectral characteristics and Markov Random Field (MRF) to consider the neighborhood effect of sub-regions. Finally, a series of parameter optimization schemes are designed according to parameter characteristics to obtain the optimal segmentation results. The proposed algorithm is validated on many multispectral remote sensing images with five comparing algorithms by qualitative and quantitative analysis. Accurate and efficient extraction of cultivated land data is of great significance for agricultural resource monitoring and national food security. Deep-learning-based classification of remote-sensing images overcomes the two difficulties of traditional learning methods (e.g., support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and random forest (RF)) when extracting the cultivated land: (1) the limited performance when extracting the same land-cover type with the high intra-class spectral variation, such as cultivated land with both vegetation and non-vegetation cover, and (2) the limited generalization ability for handling a large dataset to apply the model to different locations. However, the "pooling" process in most deep convolutional networks, which attempts to enlarge the sensing field of the kernel by involving the upscale process, leads to significant detail loss in the output, including the edges, gradients, and image texture details. To solve this problem, in this study we proposed a new end-to-end extraction algorithm, a high-resolution U-Net (HRU-Net), to preserve the image details by improving the skip connection structure and the loss function of the original U-Net. The proposed HRU-Net was tested in Xinjiang Province, China to extract the cultivated land from Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) images. The result showed that the HRU-Net achieved better performance (Acc: 92.81%; kappa: 0.81; F1-score: 0.90) than the U-Net++ (Acc: 91.74%; kappa: 0.79; F1-score: 0.89), the original U-Net (Acc: 89.83%; kappa: 0.74; F1-score: 0.86), and the Random Forest model (Acc: 76.13%; kappa: 0.48; F1-score: 0.69). The robustness of the proposed model for the intra-class spectral variation and the accuracy of the edge details were also compared, and this showed that the HRU-Net obtained more accurate edge details and had less influence from the intra-class spectral variation. A new method to identify short-rotation eucalyptus plantations by exploring both the changing pattern of vegetation indices due to tree crop rotation and spectral characteristics of eucalyptus in the red-edge region is presented. It can be adopted to produce eucalyptus maps of high spatial resolution (30 m) at large scales, with the use of open remote sensing images from Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI), MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and Sentinel-2 MultiSpectral Instrument (MSI), as well as a free cloud computing platform, Google Earth Engine (GEE). The method is composed of three main steps. First, a time series of Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) is constructed from Landsat data for each pixel, and a statistical hypothesis testing is followed to determine whether the pixel belongs to a tree plantation or not based on the idea that tree crops should be harvested in a specific period. Then, a broadleaf/needleleaf classification is applied to distinguish eucalyptus from coniferous trees such as pine and fir using the red-edge bands of Sentinel-2 data. Refinements based on superpixel are performed at last to remove the salt-and-pepper effects resulted from per-pixel detection. The proposed method allows gaps in the time series that are very common in tropical and subtropical regions by employing time series segmentation and statistical hypothesis testing, and could capture forest disturbances such as conversion of natural forest or agricultural lands to eucalyptus plantations emerged in recent years by using a short observing time. The experiment in Guangxi province of China demonstrated that the method had an overall accuracy of 87.97%, with producer's accuracy of 63.85% and user's accuracy of 66.89% for eucalyptus plantations. Detailed and accurate information on the spatial variation of land cover and land use is a critical component of local ecology and environmental research. For these tasks, high spatial resolution images are required. Considering the trade-off between high spatial and high temporal resolution in remote sensing images, many learning-based models (e.g., Convolutional neural network, sparse coding, Bayesian network) have been established to improve the spatial resolution of coarse images in both the computer vision and remote sensing fields. However, data for training and testing in these learning-based methods are usually limited to a certain location and specific sensor, resulting in the limited ability to generalize the model across locations and sensors. Recently, generative adversarial nets (GANs), a new learning model from the deep learning field, show many advantages for capturing high-dimensional nonlinear features over large samples. In this study, we test whether the GAN method can improve the generalization ability across locations and sensors with some modification to accomplish the idea "training once, apply to everywhere and different sensors" for remote sensing images. This work is based on super-resolution generative adversarial nets (SRGANs), where we modify the loss function and the structure of the network of SRGANs and propose the improved SRGAN (ISRGAN), which makes model training more stable and enhances the generalization ability across locations and sensors. In the experiment, the training and testing data were collected from two sensors (Landsat 8 OLI and Chinese GF 1) from different locations (Guangdong and Xinjiang in China). For the cross-location test, the model was trained in Guangdong with the Chinese GF 1 (8 m) data to be tested with the GF 1 data in Xinjiang. For the cross-sensor test, the same model training in Guangdong with GF 1 was tested in Landsat 8 OLI images in Xinjiang. The proposed method was compared with the neighbor-embedding (NE) method, the sparse representation method (SCSR), and the SRGAN. The peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM) were chosen for the quantitive assessment. The results showed that the ISRGAN is superior to the NE (PSNR: 30.999, SSIM: 0.944) and SCSR (PSNR: 29.423, SSIM: 0.876) methods, and the SRGAN (PSNR: 31.378, SSIM: 0.952), with the PSNR = 35.816 and SSIM = 0.988 in the cross-location test. A similar result was seen in the cross-sensor test. The ISRGAN had the best result (PSNR: 38.092, SSIM: 0.988) compared to the NE (PSNR: 35.000, SSIM: 0.982) and SCSR (PSNR: 33.639, SSIM: 0.965) methods, and the SRGAN (PSNR: 32.820, SSIM: 0.949). Meanwhile, we also tested the accuracy improvement for land cover classification before and after super-resolution by the ISRGAN. The results show that the accuracy of land cover classification after super-resolution was significantly improved, in particular, the impervious surface class (the road and buildings with high-resolution texture) improved by 15%. Timely and accurate crop type mapping is a critical prerequisite for the estimation of water availability and environmental carrying capacity. This research proposed a method to integrate time series Sentinel-1 (S1) and Sentinel-2 (S2) data for crop type mapping over oasis agricultural areas through a case study in Northwest China. Previous studies using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data alone often yield quite limited accuracy in crop type identification due to speckles. To improve the quality of SAR features, we adopted a statistically homogeneous pixel (SHP) distributed scatterer interferometry (DSI) algorithm, originally proposed in the interferometric SAR (InSAR) community for distributed scatters (DSs) extraction, to identify statistically homogeneous pixel subsets (SHPs). On the basis of this algorithm, the SAR backscatter intensity was de-speckled, and the bias of coherence was mitigated. In addition to backscatter intensity, several InSAR products were extracted for crop type classification, including the interferometric coherence, master versus slave intensity ratio, and amplitude dispersion derived from SAR data. To explore the role of red-edge wavelengths in oasis crop type discrimination, we derived 11 red-edge indices and three red-edge bands from Sentinel-2 images, together with the conventional optical features, to serve as input features for classification. To deal with the high dimension of combined SAR and optical features, an automated feature selection method, i.e., recursive feature increment, was developed to obtain the optimal combination of S1 and S2 features to achieve the highest mapping accuracy. Using a random forest classifier, a distribution map of five major crop types was produced with an overall accuracy of 83.22% and kappa coefficient of 0.77. The contribution of SAR and optical features were investigated. SAR intensity in VH polarization was proved to be most important for crop type identification among all the microwave and optical features employed in this study. Some of the InSAR products, i.e., the amplitude dispersion, master versus slave intensity ratio, and coherence, were found to be beneficial for oasis crop type mapping. It was proved the inclusion of red-edge wavelengths improved the overall accuracy (OA) of crop type mapping by 1.84% compared with only using conventional optical features. Estimation of economic development in advance is benefit to test the validity of economic policy or to take timely remedial measures for economic recession. Due to the inevitable connections between human mobility and economic status, estimation of economic trend in advance from easily observable big data in human mobility has the superiority of authenticity, timeliness, and convenience. However, high-precision quantitative relations between human mobility and economic growth remain an outstanding question. To this issue, we firstly analyzed and compared the general patterns of human mobility and economic development; then, a novel, simple, and effective hybrid human mobility indicator ( H H M I i ) of weighted human mobility networks was proposed to quantitatively estimate economic growth. H H M I i contained two parts, that is, the interaction volumes of a given city with all participation cities and only top hub cities, respectively. This implied that the economic growth of a city is affected by not only its own strength, but also the cooperation with hub cities. Several empirical experiments demonstrated that the proposed H H M I i had an exceedingly high estimation ability of economic growth, especially for the tertiary industry. Compared with other complex network indicators, H H M I i had a distinct advantage and its best accuracy reached 0.9543. This paper investigates joint beamforming in a secure integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) system assisted by reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). The system communicates with legitimate downlink users, detecting a potential target, which is a potential eavesdropper attempting to intercept the downlink communication information from the base station (BS) to legitimate users. To enhance the physical-layer secrecy of the system, we design and introduce interference signals at the BS to disrupt eavesdroppers' attempts to intercept legitimate communication information. The BS simultaneously transmits communication and interference signals, both utilized for communication and sensing to guarantee the sensing and communication quality. By jointly optimizing the BS active beamformer and the RIS passive beamforming matrix, we aim to maximize the achievable secrecy rate and radiation power of the system. We develop an effective scheme to find the active beamforming matrix through fractional programming (FP) and semi-definite programming (SDP) techniques and obtain the RIS phase shift matrix via a local search technique. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods in enhancing communication and sensing performance. Additionally, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of introducing the interference signals and RIS in enhancing the physical-layer secrecy of the ISAC system.

Background : Although some studies have identified hazardous substances in electronic cigarette (EC) liquids and emissions, there is limited information about the health risks of using ECs. Methods : In this study, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) health risk assessment model and findings of a literature review were used to determine and profile hazards. Focus was put on the toxicants reported in the literature on conventional cigarette (CC) smoke that most strongly associated with adverse health effects. To evaluate their health risks, dose-response relationships and standard-use conditions were used to estimate average hazard exposures and to calculate the overall health risks of ECs and CCs, benchmarked against international guideline levels for each hazard. Results : Four hazards (acrolein, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol and cadmium) reported in EC emissions and seven hazards (acetaldehyde, acrolein, formaldehyde, cadmium, CO, 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK), N '-nitrosonornicotine (NNN)) reported in CC emissions had maximum exposure levels higher than the guideline levels. Two hazards (acrolein, propylene glycol) in EC emissions and five hazards (acetaldehyde, acrolein, formaldehyde, cadmium, NNN) in CC emissions had average exposure levels higher than the guideline levels. Conclusions : Based on the conditions of use, ECs should be a safer nicotine-delivery product than CCs.
