Cell secretion repairs tissue damage and restores homeostasis throughout adult life. The extracellular heat shock protein-90alpha (eHsp90α) has been reported as an exosome cargo and a potential driver of wound healing. However, neither the mechanism of secretion nor the genetic evidence for eHsp90α in wound healing has been substantiated. Herein, we show that tissue injury causes massive deposition of eHsp90α in tissues and secretion of eHsp90α by cells. Sequential centrifugations of conditioned medium from relevant cell lines revealed the relative distributions of eHsp90α in microvesicle, exosome and trypsin-sensitive supernatant fractions to be approximately <2%, <4% and >95%, respectively. Establishing the cell-number-to-interstitial-fluid-volume (CIF) ratio for the microenvironment of human tissues as 1 × 109 cells: 1 mL interstitial fluid enabled us to predict the corresponding tissue concentrations of eHsp90α in these fractions as 3.74 μg/mL, 5.61 μg/mL and 178 μg/mL. Remarkably, the 178 μg/mL eHsp90α matches the previously reported 100–300 μg/mL of recombinant eHsp90α whose topical application promotes maximum wound healing in animal models. More importantly, we demonstrate that two parallel secretory autophagy-regulating gene families, the autophagy-regulating (AR) genes and the Golgi reassembly-stacking protein (GRASP) genes work together to mediate the secretion of the physiological concentration of eHsp90α to promote wound healing. In the era of inclusive education, students with attention deficits are integrated into the general classroom. To ensure a seamless transition of students' focus towards the teacher's instruction throughout the course and to align with the teaching pace, this paper proposes a continuous recognition algorithm for capturing teachers' dynamic gesture signals. This algorithm aims to offer instructional attention cues for students with attention deficits. According to the body landmarks of the teacher's skeleton by using vision and machine learning-based MediaPipe BlazePose, the proposed method uses simple rules to detect the teacher's hand signals dynamically and provides three kinds of attention cues (Pointing to left, Pointing to right, and Non-pointing) during the class. Experimental results show the average accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, and F1 score achieved 88.31%, 91.03%, 93.99%, 86.32%, and 88.03%, respectively. By analyzing non-verbal behavior, our method of competent performance can replace verbal reminders from the teacher and be helpful for students with attention deficits in inclusive education. Underwater images often encounter challenges such as attenuation, color distortion, and noise caused by artificial lighting sources. These imperfections not only degrade image quality but also impose constraints on related application tasks. Improving underwater image quality is crucial for underwater activities. However, obtaining clear underwater images has been a challenge, because scattering and blur hinder the rendering of true underwater colors, affecting the accuracy of underwater exploration. Therefore, this paper proposes a new deep network model for single underwater image enhancement. More specifically, our framework includes a light field module (LFM) and sketch module, aiming at the generation of a light field map of the target image for improving the color representation and preserving the details of the original image by providing contour information. The restored underwater image is gradually enhanced, guided by the light field map. The experimental results show the better image restoration effectiveness, both quantitatively and qualitatively, of the proposed method with a lower (or comparable) computing cost, compared with the state-of-the-art approaches. Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a major global health burden and kills over a million people annually. New immunization strategies are required for the development of an efficacious TB vaccine that can potentially induce sterilizing immunity. In this study, we first confirmed that a live vaccine strain of Mycobacterium smegmatis, previously designated as IKEPLUS, conferred a higher survival benefit than the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) in a murine model of intravenous Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection. We have shown that there was a significant increase in the expression of the Rv0282 gene, which is encoded in the esx-3 locus, which played an important role in iron uptake when IKEPLUS was grown in both low zinc and iron-containing Sauton medium. We then confirmed using in vitro assays of biofilm formation that zinc plays a vital role in the growth and formation of M. smegmatis biofilms. IKEPLUS grown in low zinc media led to the better protection of mice after intravenous challenge with a very high dosage of Mtb. We also showed that various variants of IKEPLUS induced apoptotic cell-death of infected macrophages at a higher rate than wild-type M. smegmatis. We next attempted to determine if zinc containing ribosomal proteins such as rpmb2 could contribute to protective efficacy against Mtb infection. Since BCG has an established role in anti-mycobacterial efficacy, we boosted BCG vaccinated mice with rmpb2, but this did not lead to an increment in the protection mediated by BCG. Lipases, crucial catalysts in biochemical synthesis, find extensive applications across industries such as food, medicine, and cosmetics. The efficiency of lipase-catalyzed reactions is significantly influenced by the choice of solvents. Polar organic solvents often result in a decrease, or even loss, of lipase activity. Conversely, nonpolar organic solvents induce excessive rigidity in lipases, thereby affecting their activity. While the advent of new solvents like ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents has somewhat improved the activity and stability of lipases, it fails to address the fundamental issue of lipases' poor solvent tolerance. Hence, the rational design of lipases for enhanced solvent tolerance can significantly boost their industrial performance. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the structural characteristics and properties of lipases in various solvent systems and emphasizes various strategies of protein engineering for non-aqueous media to improve lipases' solvent tolerance. Images captured in rainy weather conditions often suffer from contamination, resulting in blurred or obscured objects, which can significantly impact detection performance due to the loss of identifiable texture and color information. Moreover, the quality of the detection model plays a pivotal role in determining detection outcomes. This study adopts a dual perspective, considering both pre-trained models and training data. It employs 15 image augmentation techniques, combined with neural style transfer (NST), CycleGAN, and an analytical method, to synthesize images under rainy conditions. The Real-Time Detection Transformer (RTDETR) and YOLOv8 pre-trained models are utilized to establish object detection frameworks tailored for rainy weather conditions. Testing is carried out using the DAWN (Detection in Adverse Weather Nature) dataset. The findings suggest compatibility between the pre-trained detection models and various data synthesis methods. Notably, YOLOv8 exhibits better compatibility with CycleGAN data synthesis, while RTDETR demonstrates a stronger alignment with the NST and analytical approaches. Upon the integration of synthesized rainy images into model training, RTDETR demonstrates significantly enhanced detection accuracy compared to YOLOv8, indicating a more pronounced improvement in performance. The proposed approach of combining RTDETR with NST in this study shows a significant improvement in Recall (R) and mAP50-95 by 16.35% and 15.50%, respectively, demonstrating the robust rainy weather resilience of this method. Simple Summary: Improving augmentative biological control relies on the development of a cost-effective and readily available diet for rearing natural enemy insects. This study highlights the effectiveness of Ephestia kuehniella eggs in promoting the development of the predatory ladybird beetle Propylea japonica. It represents the first study in assessing the advantages of E. kuehniella eggs as dietary sources for ladybirds by examining transcriptional regulation. The eggs of the Mediterranean flour moth, Ephestia kuehniella, are frequently utilized as alternative diets and have demonstrated promising outcomes when consumed by various insects. Nonetheless, the specific reasons for their effectiveness remain unclear. In our study, we assessed the developmental performance of the ladybird Propylea japonica when fed E. kuehniella eggs, alongside 12 factitious prey or artificial diets. Our findings revealed that ladybirds fed E. kuehniella eggs displayed a performance comparable to those fed the natural prey Megoura crassicauda. Transcriptome profiling of larvae raised on E. kuehniella eggs and M. crassicauda revealed that genes upregulated in the former group were enriched in metabolic pathways associated with carbohydrates, lipids, and other essential nutrients. This suggests that E. kuehniella eggs may have a higher nutrient content compared to natural prey. Furthermore, a notable downregulation in the expression of immune effector genes, such as Attacin and Coleoptericin, was observed, which might be attributed to the lower microbial content in E. kuehniella eggs compared to M. crassicauda. We suggest that the difference between E. kuehniella eggs and M. crassicauda as food sources for P. japonica lies in their nutrient and microbial contents. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurs when an individual experiences a traumatic event that exceeds the limits of psychological endurance. Many veterans experience PTSD. PTSD can negatively impact veterans' quality of life, functioning, life satisfaction, and overall well-being. It is important to analyze the concept of PTSD in the veteran population. This concept analysis aimed to investigate the defining attributes, a model case, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents related to the concept of PTSD among veterans. Walker and Avant's method was used to guide this concept analysis of PTSD. The results showed that three attributes were determined from the analysis: intrusive memories of traumatic events, feelings of isolation and estrangement, and negative cognitions. PTSD is conceptualized as a collection of symptoms that arise from highly traumatic experiences. The military environment predisposes veterans to traumatic events that should be identified or acknowledged. The atmospheric boundary layer is a key region for human activities and the interaction of various layers and is an important channel for the transportation of momentum, heat, and various substances between the free atmosphere and the surface, which has a significant impact on the development of weather and climate change. During the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Program (STEP) in June 2022, utilizing the comprehensive stereoscopic observation experiment of the "Plateau Low Vortex Network", this study analyzed the variation characteristics and influencing factors of the atmospheric boundary layer height (ABLH) at three stations with different underlying surface types on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP): Qumalai Station (grassland), Southeast Tibet Observation and Research Station for the Alpine Environment (SETORS, forest), and Sieshan Station (cropland). The analysis utilized sounding observation data, microwave radiometer data, and ERA5 reanalysis data. The results revealed that the temperature differences between the sounding observation data and microwave radiometer data were minor at the three stations, with a notable temperature inversion phenomenon observed at Sieshan Station. Regarding water vapor density, the differences between the sounding observation data and microwave radiometer data were relatively small at Sieshan Station. The relative humidity increased with height at Sieshan Station, whereas it increased and then decreased with height at SETORS and Qumalai Station. The ABLH at all sites reached its maximum value around noon, approximately 1500 m, and exhibited mostly convective boundary layer (CBL) characteristics. During the night, the ABLH mostly showed a stable boundary layer (SBL) pattern, with heights around 250 m. In summer, latent heat flux (LE) and sensible heat flux (H) in the eastern plateau were generally lower than those in the western plateau except at 20:00, where they were higher. Vertical velocity (w) in the eastern plateau was greater than in the western plateau. Among Sieshan Station and SETORS, LE, and H had the most significant impact on ABLH, while at Qumalai Station, ABLH was more influenced by surface long-wave radiation (Rlu). These four influencing factors showed a positive correlation with ABLH. The impact of different underlying surface types on ABLH primarily manifests in surface temperature variations, solar radiation intensity, vegetation cover, and terrain. Latent Low-Rank Representation (LatLRR) has emerged as a prominent approach for fusing visible and infrared images. In this approach, images are decomposed into three fundamental components: the base part, salient part, and sparse part. The aim is to blend the base and salient features to reconstruct images accurately. However, existing methods often focus more on combining the base and salient parts, neglecting the importance of the sparse component, whereas we advocate for the comprehensive inclusion of all three parts generated from LatLRR image decomposition into the image fusion process, a novel proposition introduced in this study. Moreover, the effective integration of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technology with LatLRR remains challenging, particularly after the inclusion of sparse parts. This study utilizes fusion strategies involving weighted average, summation, VGG19, and ResNet50 in various combinations to analyze the fusion performance following the introduction of sparse parts. The research findings show a significant enhancement in fusion performance achieved through the inclusion of sparse parts in the fusion process. The suggested fusion strategy involves employing deep learning techniques for fusing both base parts and sparse parts while utilizing a summation strategy for the fusion of salient parts. Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy prevailing in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southern China, Southeast Asia, and North Africa. Although early-stage NPC responds well to the primary treatment of radio-chemotherapy, the mortality rate of advanced NPC remains high. Therefore, developing new therapies for nasopharyngeal carcinoma is an urgent task. Emodin is an anthraquinone derivative mainly found in Rheum palmatum. Emodin has been found to possess many anti-cancer functions against various types of cancers, but they are less discussed in the treatment of NPC. Morchella esculenta is a precious edible and medicinal fungus rich in protein, polysaccharides, polyphenols, amino acids, triterpenes, and other active components. In this study, MS-1 was isolated from the fruiting body of M. esculenta. Through conducting single-factor experiments and the response surface analysis of the culture conditions, the optimal culture components of an M. esculenta fermentation broth for extracellular polysaccharide production were determined, namely, 3.7% glucose, 2% yeast extract, and 0.15% sodium chloride. The polysaccharides MSF and MSL were extracted from the fruiting body of M. esculenta and the fermentation broth, respectively, and analyzed with gel permeation chromatography (GPC), monosaccharide composition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and in vivo and in vitro antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity analyses. The research results show that the calculated MW of MSF is 2.34 × 105 Da, and the calculated MW of MSL is 1.40 × 105 Da. MSF is composed of three monosaccharides: D-galactose, D-glucose, and D-mannose (molar ratio of 4.34:90.22:5.45). MSL consists of five monosaccharides: D-arabinose, D-galactose, D-glucose, D-mannose, and glucuronic acid (molar ratio of 0.31:14.71:13.03:71.43:0.53). The in vitro antioxidant test results show that MSF and MSL both have significant antioxidant activities. Activity experiments on MSF and MSL in zebrafish showed that MSF and MSL have significant repair effects on the oxidative damage caused by metronidazole in zebrafish embryos, and there were significant changes in the transcriptional activity levels of the oxidative stress-related genes SOD, Keap1, and Nrf2. Intermountain basins are the granaries of the karst mountains of southwest China. Revealing the process and trend of land-use transformation in typical mountainous "granaries" is of great significance to optimizing land-use, food security, and rural revitalization in the karst mountains of southwest China. Lianjiang basin in Huishui County is the largest in Guizhou Province of southwest China, and a typical mountainous "granary" is used as a case study area. Based on seven periods of high-definition remote sensing images from 1966 to 2020 and on-the-spot investigation, we adopt the analysis methods of landscape pattern, moving window, and buffer zone and conduct an in-depth study on the spatial evolution of land-use and the land-use transformation law of the typical "granaries" of karst mountainous areas in southwest China from the perspectives of changes in the quantity of land-use, changes in the types of land-use, and changes in the landscape pattern. The results showed that the transformation of land-use in the basin was mainly manifested in the transformation of the function of cultivated land and the diversification of the function of cultivated land. The landscape pattern of the basin was gradually transformed from traditional rural landscape to modern agricultural landscape. The gradient effect of land-use evolution and transformation in the study basin was obvious. Traffic, location, and land resources significantly affect land-use transformation in the basin. Based on the above analysis, this paper proposes that the "granary" basins in karst mountainous areas should optimize the land-use of the basin by the trade-off between regional socio-economic development, ecological protection, and food security. The results of this paper provide a reference for land-use optimization and rural development in the granary-type basins and other similar areas in the karst mountains of southwest China. Seed dormancy often hinders direct seeding efforts that are attempting to restore degraded landscapes. Gibberellic acid (GA3) can be applied to physiologically dormant seeds to induce germination, but this hormone is rarely effective, as it can degrade or be leached from the seed. We tested different polymer matrixes (polylactic acid, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and ethylcellulose) to apply and slowly release GA3 to the seed. These polymers were tested as seed coatings in either a powder, liquid, or a combination of powder and liquid forms. We found that a liquid ethylcellulose/GA3 coating generally outperformed the other polymers and applications methods using our test species Penstemon palmeri. With this top-performing treatment, seed germination was 3.0- and 3.9-fold higher at 15 °C and 25 °C, respectively. We also evaluated the liquid ethylcellulose/GA3 coating on P. comharrenus, P. strictus, P. pachyphyllus, and P. eatonii. Again, the coating had a strong treatment response, with the degree of difference related to the relative level of dormancy of the species. Growth studies were also performed in pots to ensure that the side effects of GA3 overdosing were not present. In response to injury, vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) of the arterial wall dedifferentiate into a proliferative and migratory phenotype, leading to intimal hyperplasia. The ERK1/2 pathway participates in cellular proliferation and migration, while dual-specificity phosphatase 6 (DUSP6, also named MKP3) can dephosphorylate activated ERK1/2. We showed that DUSP6 was expressed in low baseline levels in normal arteries; however, arterial injury significantly increased DUSP6 levels in the vessel wall. Compared with wild-type mice, Dusp6-deficient mice had smaller neointima. In vitro, IL-1β induced DUSP6 expression and increased VSMC proliferation and migration. Lack of DUSP6 reduced IL-1β-induced VSMC proliferation and migration. DUSP6 deficiency did not affect IL-1β-stimulated ERK1/2 activation. Instead, ERK1/2 inhibitor U0126 prevented DUSP6 induction by IL-1β, indicating that ERK1/2 functions upstream of DUSP6 to regulate DUSP6 expression in VSMCs rather than downstream as a DUSP6 substrate. IL-1β decreased the levels of cell cycle inhibitor p27 and cell–cell adhesion molecule N-cadherin in VSMCs, whereas lack of DUSP6 maintained their high levels, revealing novel functions of DUSP6 in regulating these two molecules. Taken together, our results indicate that lack of DUSP6 attenuated neointima formation following arterial injury by reducing VSMC proliferation and migration, which were likely mediated via maintaining p27 and N-cadherin levels. Signaling pathways play a crucial role in regulating cellulase production. The pathway mediated by signaling proteins plays a crucial role in understanding how cellulase expression is regulated. In this study, using affinity purification of ClrB, we have identified sixteen proteins that potentially interact with ClrB. One of the proteins, the catalytic subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase A (PoPKA-C), is an important component of the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway. Knocking out PoPKA-C resulted in significant decreases in the growth, glucose utilization, and cellulose hydrolysis ability of the mutant strain. Furthermore, the cellulase activity and gene transcription levels were significantly reduced in the ΔPoPKA-C mutant, while the expression activity of CreA, a transcriptional regulator of carbon metabolism repression, was notably increased. Additionally, deletion of PoPKA-C also led to earlier timing of conidia production. The expression levels of key transcription factor genes stuA and brlA, which are involved in the production of the conidia, showed significant enhancement in the ΔPoPKA-C mutant. These findings highlight the involvement of PoPKA-C in mycelial development, conidiation, and the regulation of cellulase expression. The functional analysis of PoPKA-C provides insights into the mechanism of the cAMP/PKA signaling pathway in cellulase expression in filamentous fungi and has significant implications for the development of high-yielding cellulase strains. Since the only and the milestone FDA approval of becaplermin gel (RegranexTM, 0.01% human recombinant PDGF-BB) as a (diabetic) wound healing therapeutic more than 25 years ago, no new therapeutic (excluding physical therapies, devices, dressings, anti-microbial agents, or other preventive treatments) for any type of wound healing has advanced to clinical applications. During the same period of time, the FDA has approved additional 250 new drugs for various human tumors, which were famously described as "wounds that do not heal". Two similar pathological conditions have experienced such a dramatic difference in therapeutics. More surprisingly, few in the wound healing community seem to be alarmed by this mysterious deficit. As it is often said, "damaging is far easier than re-building". In contrast to the primary duty of a cancer drug to damage a single molecule of the signaling network, a wound healing drug must be able to re-build the multi-level damages in the wound. No known single molecule alone is capable of repairing multi-cell-type and multi-pathway damages all at once. We argue that the previous single molecule-based strategy for developing wound healing therapeutics is profoundly flawed in theory. Predicting cellular responses to perturbations is an unsolved problem in biology. Traditional approaches assume that different cell types respond similarly to perturbations. However, this assumption does not take into account the context of genome interactions in different cell types, which leads to compromised prediction quality. More recently, deep learning models used to discover gene–gene relationships can yield more accurate predictions of cellular responses. The huge difference in biological information between different cell types makes it difficult for deep learning models to encode data into a continuous low-dimensional feature space, which means that the features captured by the latent space may not be continuous. Therefore, the mapping relationship between the two conditional spaces learned by the model can only be applied where the real reference data resides, leading to the wrong mapping of the predicted target cells because they are not in the same domain as the reference data. In this paper, we propose an information-navigated variational autoencoder (INVAE), a deep neural network for cell perturbation response prediction. INVAE filters out information that is not conducive to predictive performance. For the remaining information, INVAE constructs a homogeneous space of control conditions, and finds the mapping relationship between the control condition space and the perturbation condition space. By embedding the target unit into the control space and then mapping it to the perturbation space, we can predict the perturbed state of the target unit. Comparing our proposed method with other three state-of-the-art methods on three real datasets, experimental results show that INVAE outperforms existing methods in cell state prediction after perturbation. Furthermore, we demonstrate that filtering out useless information not only improves prediction accuracy but also reveals similarities in how genes in different cell types are regulated following perturbation. Dental X-ray images are important and useful for dentists to diagnose dental diseases. Utilizing deep learning in dental X-ray images can help dentists quickly and accurately identify common dental diseases such as periodontitis and dental caries. This paper applies image processing and deep learning technologies to dental X-ray images to propose a simultaneous recognition method for periodontitis and dental caries. The single-tooth X-ray image is detected by the YOLOv7 object detection technique and cropped from the periapical X-ray image. Then, it is processed through contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization to enhance the local contrast, and bilateral filtering to eliminate noise while preserving the edge. The deep learning architecture for classification comprises a pre-trained EfficientNet-B0 and fully connected layers that output two labels by the sigmoid activation function for the classification task. The average precision of tooth detection using YOLOv7 is 97.1%. For the recognition of periodontitis, the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is 98.67%, and the AUC of the precision-recall (PR) curve is 98.38%. For the recognition of dental caries, the AUC of the ROC curve is 98.31%, and the AUC of the PR curve is 97.55%. Different from the conventional deep learning-based methods for a single disease such as periodontitis or dental caries, the proposed approach can provide the recognition of both periodontitis and dental caries simultaneously. Under the 2030 bilingual national policy in Taiwan, the financial industry encourages employees to use a digital innovation learning platform (English e-learning platform, EELP) to strengthen their language skills and improve service capabilities and improve the language skills of financial practitioners. In this study, we used the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to understand financial practitioners' intentions to use the digital innovation learning platform. TAM is the one of most influential models for technology acceptance. In the study, a total of 528 questionnaires were collected from financial practitioners with 457 valid ones. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and regression analysis. From demographic variables, more female financial practitioners used the digital innovation learning platform than males. Most practitioners using e-learning were 50–59 years old in the position of a business manager with 11–15 years of experience. In the technology acceptance model, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness had a significant positive impact on attitude to use. Lots of Insurance companies have constructed databases for ad hoc query software in Taiwan that combines customer relationship management and marketing campaign management. An ad hoc query is a non-routine and specific query performed in real time to filter specific customer information from big data. Ad hoc query has the strength to retrieve customer information more quickly and conveniently than by filtering target customer lists using a mainframe or OLAP. In this study, the strengths and weaknesses of ad hoc query, online analytical processing (OLAP), and general query using a mainframe are analyzed. The results indicate that ad hoc query has the advantage of flexibility for users' specific needs. Ad hoc query has obstacles and challenges for users regarding how to learn its system fields and writing programs. It is concluded that the design between individual assured suggestions and a convenient operation process is critical for raising the response rate. The rise in diabetes cases is a growing concern due to the aging of populations. This not only places a strain on healthcare systems but also creates serious public health problems. Traditional blood tests are currently used to check blood sugar levels, but they are invasive and can discourage patients from regularly monitoring their levels. We recently developed nano-sensing probes that integrate Au microelectrodes and conductivity meters, requiring only 50 μL of saliva for measurement. The usage of the co-planar design of coating-free Au electrodes makes the measurement more stable, precise, and easier. This study found a positive correlation between the participant's fasting blood sugar levels and salivary conductivity. We observed a diabetes prevalence of 11.6% among 395 adults under 65 years in this study, using the glycated hemoglobin > 6.5% definition. This study found significantly higher salivary conductivity in the diabetes group, and also a clear trend of increasing diabetes as conductivity levels rose. The prediction model, using salivary conductivity, age, and body mass index, performed well in diagnosing diabetes, with a ROC curve area of 0.75. The study participants were further divided into low and high groups based on salivary conductivity using the Youden index with a cutoff value of 5.987 ms/cm. Individuals with higher salivary conductivity had a 3.82 times greater risk of diabetes than those with lower levels, as determined by the odds ratio calculation. Imbalanced learning problems often occur in application scenarios and are additionally an important research direction in the field of machine learning. Traditional classifiers are substantially less effective for datasets with an imbalanced distribution, especially for high-dimensional longitudinal data structures. In the medical field, the imbalance of data problem is more common, and correctly identifying samples of the minority class can obtain important information. Moreover, class imbalance in imbalanced AD (Alzheimer's disease) data presents a significant challenge for machine learning algorithms that assume the data are evenly distributed within the classes. In this paper, we propose a random forest-based feature selection algorithm for imbalanced neuroimaging data classification. The algorithm employs random forest to evaluate the value of each feature and combines the correlation matrix to choose the optimal feature subset, which is applied to imbalanced MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) AD data to identify AD, MCI (mild cognitive impairment), and NC (normal individuals). In addition, we extract multiple features from AD images that can represent 2D and 3D brain information. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the experimental evaluation using the public ADNI (Alzheimer's neuroimaging initiative) dataset, and results demonstrate that the proposed method has a higher prediction accuracy and AUC (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve) value in NC-AD, MCI-AD, and NC-MCI group data, with the highest accuracy and AUC value for the NC-AD group data. Puding County in central Guizhou is a typical karst ecologically vulnerable area integrating rural, mountainous, and ecological migration areas. It is essential to study the dynamic trajectory and direction of its agroecosystems (AESs) transformation to promote sustainable land use development in karst mountain areas. Based on high-resolution remote sensing images from 2004 to 2020, this study analyzes the transformation characteristics, typical landscape patterns, and their driving forces of AESs using the landscape pattern index, moving window method, and Geodetector model. The results show that: (i) The overall landscape pattern of AESs in the study area developed towards complexity and diversification from 2004 to 2020. The overall trend of woodland and grassland (WGL) is increasing, the slope cultivated land (SCL) is shrinking, the construction land (CL) is spreading and expanding along the vicinity of the town, and the economic and fruit forests (EFF) are increasing significantly. (ii) Three typical patterns are concluded according to the main transformation directions of AESs: WGL restoration type, CL growth type, and EFF growth type; middle and high mountains are dominated by the WGL restoration type with increased ecological functions, and the concentration of the new WGL increases with the increase in elevation; low mountain areas are dominated by the CL growth type with enhanced living functions, and the concentration of the new CL decreases with the increase in slope and elevation; valleys and hills are dominated by the EFF growth type with enhanced ecological and economic functions, and the concentration of the new EFF increases with the decrease in slope and elevation. (iii) Socio-economic factors are the dominant drivers of AES transformation. The WGL restoration type is dominated by slope and elevation, the CL growth type is mainly influenced by slope and urbanization rate, and the EFF growth type is primarily influenced by soil organic matter, slope, urbanization rate, and resident population. The study results have implications for rural land use, rural development, and ecological restoration of rocky desertification in karst mountain areas and other similar mountainous areas. China's southwestern karst area exhibits many mountains and little flat lands, and intermountain basins (IBs) (locally named "bazi") are one of their typical landform types. Comparative studies on land use in the core of typical landforms in karst mountain areas are relatively lacking. Studying the evolution and transformation patterns of intermountain basin paddy fields use (IBPFU) to optimize land resources in mountainous areas is important. Based on structural and functional perspectives, this study established a research framework on the evolution and transformation of IBPFU in karst mountainous areas, and analyzed the evolution and transformation patterns of IBPFU in Guizhou Province from 1966 to 2020 by measuring land use change and applying the moving window method and morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) model. The study showed that the evolution of IBPFU is characterized by reversibility and irreversibility, diversity, and stages. The transition of IBPFU requires a trade-off among regional socioeconomic development, ecological protection, and food security. The commonality of land use transitions in IB and sloped land (SL) is reflected in the diversity of their land use functions. This study provides a reference for a comprehensive understanding of land use transitions and sustainable development in the mountainous karst regions of southwest China by providing in-depth examinations of the land use transition of IB, which is different from SL, via the long time series evolution of core land use types. Background: Metastasis-associated protein 2 (MTA2) is a member of the metastasis-associated transcriptional regulator family and is a core component of the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylation complex. Despite growing evidence that MTA2 plays a crucial role in the tumorigenesis of certain cancers, no systematic pan-cancer analysis of MTA2 is available to date. Therefore, the aim of our study is to explore the prognostic value of MTA2 in 33 cancer types and to investigate its potential immune function. Methods: by comprehensive use of databases from TCGA, GTEx, GEO, UCSC xena, cBioPortal, comPPI, GeneMANIA, TCIA, MSigDB, and PDB, we applied various bioinformatics approaches to investigate the potential role of MTA2, including analyzing the association of MTA2 with MSI, prognosis, gene mutation, and immune cell infiltration in different tumors. We constructed a nomogram in TCGA-LIHC, performed single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis of MTA2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and screened drugs for the treatment of HCC. Finally, immunohistochemical experiments were performed to verify the expression and prognostic value of MTA2 in HCC. In vitro experiments were employed to observe the growth inhibition effects of MK-886 on the HCC cell line HepG2. Results: The results suggested that MTA2 was highly expressed in most cancers, and MTA2 expression was associated with the prognosis of different cancers. In addition, MTA2 expression was associated with Tumor Mutation Burden (TMB) in 12 cancer types and MSI in 8 cancer types. Immunoassays indicated that MTA2 positively correlated with activated memory CD4 T cells and M0 macrophage infiltration levels in HCC. ScRNA-seq analysis based on the GEO dataset discovered that MTA2 was significantly expressed in T cells in HCC. Finally, the eXtreme Sum (Xsum) algorithm was used to screen the antitumor drug MK-886, and the molecular docking technique was utilized to reveal the binding capacity between MK-886 and the MTA2 protein. The results demonstrated excellent binding sites between them, which bind to each other through Π-alkyl and alkyl interaction forces. An immunohistochemistry experiment showed that MTA2 protein was highly expressed in HCC, and high MTA2 expression was associated with poor survival in HCC patients. MK-886 significantly inhibited the proliferation and induced cell death of HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that MTA2 plays crucial roles in tumor progression and tumor immunity, and it could be used as a prognostic marker for various malignancies. The Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) is a crucial component of the global climate system, influencing the regional and global climate through complex thermal and dynamic mechanisms. The high-altitude region, which is the largest part of the extra-polar cryosphere, encompasses extensive mountain glaciers, permafrost, and seasonally frozen land, making it highly sensitive to global climate change. However, the challenging environmental conditions, such as the harsh terrain and high altitude, coupled with sparse weather station distribution and weak observatory representation, make it difficult to accurately quantify the atmospheric conditions and land–atmosphere coupling systems and their effects on the surrounding areas. To address these challenges, we utilized the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and a three-dimensional variational (3DVAR) assimilation method to create a high-resolution assimilated dataset (HRAD). The QTP-HRAD, covering the spatial range of 70 to 110°E and 25 to 40°N, was validated using both surface weather station observations and the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis V5, and can now be utilized for further studies on land–atmosphere interactions, water cycling and radiation energy transfer processes, and extreme weather events in the region. Using appropriate classification and recognition technology can help physicians make clinical diagnoses and decisions more effectively as a result of the ongoing development of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field. There are currently a number of issues with the detection of common pediatric dermatoses, including the challenge of image collection, the low resolution of some collected images, the intra-class variability and inter-class similarity of disease symptoms, and the mixing of disease symptom detection results. To resolve these problems, we first introduced the Random Online Data Augmentation and Selective Image Super-Resolution Reconstruction (RDA-SSR) method, which successfully avoids overfitting in training, to address the issue of the small dataset and low resolution of collected images, increase the number of images, and improve the image quality. Second, for the issue of an imbalance between difficult and simple samples, which is brought on by the variation within and between classes of disease signs during distinct disease phases. By increasing the loss contribution of hard samples for classification on the basis of the cross-entropy, we propose the DK_Loss loss function for two-stage object detection, allowing the model to concentrate more on the learning of hard samples. Third, in order to reduce redundancy and improve detection precision, we propose the Fliter_nms post-processing method for the intermingling of detection results based on the NMS algorithm. We created the CPD-10 image dataset for common pediatric dermatoses and used the Faster R-CNN network training findings as a benchmark. The experimental results show that the RDA-SSR technique, while needing a similar collection of parameters, can improve mAP by more than 4 % . Furthermore, experiments were conducted over the CPD-10 dataset and PASCAL VOC2007 dataset to evaluate the effectiveness of DK_Loss over the two-stage object detection algorithm, and the results of cross-entropy loss-function-based training are used as baselines. The findings demonstrated that, with DK_Loss taken into account, its mAP is 1–2% above the baseline. Apoe-deficient (Apoe−/−) and Ldlr-deficient (Ldlr−/−) mice are two common animal models of hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis. The two models differ in lipid and glucose metabolism and other mechanisms involved in atherogenesis. Here we examined atherosclerotic lesion formation in the two models with an atherosclerosis-resistant C3H/HeJ (C3H) background. 3-month-old C3H-Ldlr−/− and C3H-Apoe−/− mice developed minimal atherosclerotic lesions in the aortic root when fed a chow diet. After 12 weeks on a Western diet, C3H-Ldlr−/− mice developed 3-fold larger lesions than C3H-Apoe−/− mice in the aortic root (127,386 ± 13,439 vs. 41,542 ± 5075 μm2/section; p = 0.00028), but neither knockout formed any lesion in the carotid artery. After being ligated near its bifurcation, the common carotid artery developed intimal lesions in both knockouts 4 weeks after ligation, significantly larger in C3H-Ldlr−/− than C3H-Apoe−/− mice (68,721 ± 2706 vs. 47,472 ± 8146 μm2/section; p = 0.028). Compared to C3H-Apoe−/− mice, C3H-Ldlr−/− mice showed a 50% reduction in plasma MCP-1 levels, similar levels of malondialdehyde, an oxidative stress biomarker, on both chow and Western diets, but higher small dense LDL levels on the Western diet. These results suggest a more significant role for small dense LDL than inflammation and oxidative stress in the different susceptibility of the mouse models to atherosclerosis. Simple Summary: Bladder cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the urinary system. Pirarubicin (THP) perfusion therapy is an important treatment method for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer. However, an increasing number of cases of recurrence or progression of bladder cancer caused by THP resistance have been reported. Therefore, we urgently need to find the critical genes that cause THP resistance in bladder cancer. In this study, we obtained the critical gene AKR1C1 that causes resistance of bladder cancer to THP via CRISPR/dCas9 SAM. This study not only verified that AKR1C1 can cause resistance of bladder cancer cells to THP both in in vivo and in vitro, but also found that THP treatment can gradually increase the expression of AKR1C1, thus causing resistance to the drug. In addition, we also found that aspirin, the AKR1C1 inhibitor, and tempol, the ROS scavenger, can effectively overcome the drug resistance caused by AKR1C1. Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is a common tumor of the urinary system. Given its high rates of recurrence, progression, and drug resistance, NMIBC seriously affects the quality of life and limits the survival time of patients. Pirarubicin (THP) is a bladder infusion chemotherapy drug recommended by the guidelines for NMIBC. Although the widespread use of THP reduces the recurrence rate of NMIBC, 10–50% of patients still suffer from tumor recurrence, which is closely related to tumor resistance to chemotherapy drugs. This study was performed to screen the critical genes causing THP resistance in bladder cancer cell lines by using the CRISPR/dCas9-SAM system. Thus, AKR1C1 was screened. Results showed that the high expression of AKR1C1 could enhance the drug resistance of bladder cancer to THP both in vivo and in vitro. This gene could reduce the levels of 4-hydroxynonenal and reactive oxygen species (ROS) and resist THP-induced apoptosis. However, AKR1C1 did not affect the proliferation, invasion, or migration of the bladder cancer cells. Aspirin, which is an AKR1C1 inhibitor, could help reduce the drug resistance caused by AKR1C1. After receiving THP treatment, the bladder cancer cell lines could upregulate the expression of the AKR1C1 gene through the ROS/KEAP1/NRF2 pathway, leading to resistance to THP treatment. The latest international video coding standard, H.266/Versatile Video Coding (VVC), supports high-definition videos, with resolutions from 4 K to 8 K or even larger. It offers a higher compression ratio than its predecessor, H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). In addition to the quadtree partition structure of H.265/HEVC, the nested multi-type tree (MTT) structure of H.266/VVC provides more diverse splits through binary and ternary trees. It also includes many new coding tools, which tremendously increases the encoding complexity. This paper proposes a fast intra coding algorithm for H.266/VVC based on visual perception analysis. The algorithm applies the factor of average background luminance for just-noticeable-distortion to identify the visually distinguishable (VD) pixels within a coding unit (CU). We propose calculating the variances of the numbers of VD pixels in various MTT splits of a CU. Intra sub-partitions and matrix weighted intra prediction are turned off conditionally based on the variance of the four variances for MTT splits and a thresholding criterion. The fast horizontal/vertical splitting decisions for binary and ternary trees are proposed by utilizing random forest classifiers of machine learning techniques, which use the information of VD pixels and the quantization parameter. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves around 47.26% encoding time reduction with a Bjøntegaard Delta Bitrate (BDBR) of 1.535% on average under the All Intra configuration. Adiponectin is an adipokine multipeptide hormone with insulin-sensitizing; anti-atherosclerotic; and anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) may be associated with low adiponectin. The adiponectin gene ADIPOQ is thought to be the only major gene responsible for plasma adiponectin levels; which are associated with diabetes and diabetic nephropathy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between ADIPOQ polymorphism and CKD. In addition; the combined effects of ADIPOQ polymorphism and diabetes and levels of total urinary arsenic and blood cadmium on CKD were also explored. This study included 215 CKD patients and 423 age–sex matched controls. The ADIPOQ polymorphisms were determined using the Agena Bioscience Mass ARRAY System. The levels of blood cadmium and urinary arsenic species were measured. The ADIPOQ rs182052 GA/AA genotype had a marginally lower odds ratio (OR) for CKD than the GG genotype. The OR (95% confidence interval; CI) was 16.33 (5.72–46.66) of CKD in subjects carrying the ADIPOQ rs182052 GG genotype and diabetes compared to non-diabetes subjects carrying the ADIPOQ rs182052 GA/AA genotype; the interaction term had p = 0.015; and the synergy index was 6.64 (1.81–24.36) after multivariate adjustment. A significant interaction of diabetes and ADIPOQ rs1501299 risk genotype increased the OR of CKD after multivariate adjustment with a synergy index of 0.31 (0.11–0.86) and a multiplicative interaction with p = 0.001. These results suggest that ADIPOQ rs182052 and rs1501299 risk genotypes may significantly modify the association between diabetes and CKD but not the association between total urinary arsenic and blood cadmium and CKD. STR/ort mice spontaneously exhibit the typical osteoarthritis (OA) phenotype. However, studies describing the relationship between cartilage histology, epiphyseal trabecular bone, and age are lacking. We aimed to evaluate the typical OA markers and quantify the subchondral bone trabecular parameters in STR/ort male mice at different weeks of age. We then developed an evaluation model for OA treatment. We graded the knee cartilage damage using the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) score in STR/ort male mice with or without GRGDS treatment. We measured the levels of typical OA markers, including aggrecan fragments, matrix metallopeptidase-13 (MMP-13), collagen type X alpha 1 chain (COL10A1), and SRY-box transcription factor 9 (Sox9), and quantified epiphyseal trabecular parameters. Compared to the young age group, elderly mice showed an increased OARSI score, decreased chondrocyte columns of the growth plate, elevated expression of OA markers (aggrecan fragments, MMP13, and COL10A1), and decreased expression of Sox9 at the articular cartilage region in elderly STR/ort mice. Aging also significantly enhanced the subchondral bone remodeling and microstructure change in the tibial plateau. Moreover, GRGDS treatment mitigated these subchondral abnormalities. A real-time path planning algorithm based on the Markov decision process (MDP) is proposed in this paper. This algorithm can be used in dynamic environments to guide the wheeled mobile robot to the goal. Two phases (the utility update phase and the policy update phase) constitute the path planning of the entire system. In the utility update phase, the utility value is updated based on information from the observable environment. Obstacles and walls reduce the utility value, pushing agents away from these impassable areas. The utility value of the goal is constant and is always only the largest. In the policy update, a series of policies can be obtained by the strategy of maximizing its long-term total reward, and the series will eventually form a path towards the goal, regardless of where the agent is located. The simulations and experiments show that it takes longer to find the first path in the beginning due to the large changes of utility value, but once the path is planned, it requires a small amount of time cost to respond to the environmental changes. Daminozide, a plant growth regulator, is an effective inhibitor of the Jumonji domain-containing protein (JMJD) histone demethylase. Herein, four ruthenium(II)/rhenium(I)-daminozide conjugates, with molecular formulas [Ru(N-N)2bpy(4-CH2OH-4′-CH2O-daminozide)](PF6)2 (Ru-1/Ru-2) (N-N = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen, in Ru-1) and 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (DIP, in Ru-2)) and Re(N-N)(CO)3(PyCH2O-daminozide) (Re-1/Re-2) (Py = pyridine, N-N = phen (in Re-1) and DIP (in Re-2)), were synthesized and characterized. Among these complexes, Ru-2 and Re-2 exhibited higher cytotoxicity against tumor cells than cisplatin. Upregulation of H3K9Me3 expression level was found in human cervical cancer cells (HeLa) treated with Ru-2 and Re-2, indicating that these two complexes can inhibit the activity of JMJD histone demethylase. Further investigation revealed that Re-2 can selectively accumulate in the mitochondria of HeLa cells. Both Ru-2 and Re-2 can cause mitochondrial damage, induce apoptosis, and inhibit cell migration and colony formation of HeLa cells. Overall, these complexes exhibit multiple anticancer functions, including inhibiting JMJD, inducing apoptosis, and inhibiting cell invasion, making them promising candidates for anticancer drugs. Previous literature has suggested physical exercise may improve cognitive impairments and mitigate depressive symptoms. However, few studies examined the impact of resistance exercise intervention on cognition and depression in older Chinese Americans. The purpose of this pilot study was to assess the effects of resistance exercise training on cognitive performance and depressive symptoms among community-dwelling older Chinese Americans. The study was a two-arm randomized controlled trial with pre-test/post-test design. Thirty older adults were randomly assigned into the resistance exercise intervention group or the wait-list control group. Participants' cognitive performance and depressive symptoms were evaluated at baseline (pre-test) and at 12 weeks (post-test). The results showed that there were significant differences between the intervention and control groups on changes in symptoms of depression, global cognitive function, visuospatial/executive functions, attention, language, and orientation. However, there were no significant differences between both groups on changes in naming, abstraction, and delayed recall domains. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes several long-term disabilities, particularly headaches. An association between TBI and subsequent migraine has been reported. However, few longitudinal studies have explained the link between migraine and TBI. Moreover, the modifying effects of treatment remain unknown. This retrospective cohort study used records from Taiwan's Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005 to evaluate the risk of migraine among patients with TBI and to determine the effects of different treatment modalities. Initially, 187,906 patients, aged ≥ 18 years, who were diagnosed as TBI in 2000, were identified. In total, 151,098 patients with TBI and 604,394 patients without TBI were matched at a 1:4 ratio according to baseline variables during the same observation period. At the end of follow-up, 541 (0.36%) and 1491 (0.23%) patients in the TBI and non-TBI groups, respectively, developed migraine. The TBI group exhibited a higher risk of migraine than the non-TBI group (adjusted HR: 1.484). Major trauma (Injury Severity Score, ISS ≥ 16) was associated with a higher migraine risk than minor trauma (ISS < 16) (adjusted HR: 1.670). In this study, the bipolar switching properties and electrical conduction behaviors of the ITO thin films RRAM devices were investigated. For the transparent RRAM devices structure, indium tin oxide thin films were deposited by using the RF magnetron sputtering method on the ITO/glass substrate. For the ITO/ITOX/ITO/glass (MIM) structure, an indium tin oxide thin film top electrode was prepared to form the transparent RRAM devices. From the experimental results, the 102 On/Off memory ratio and bipolar switching cycling properties for set/reset stable states were found and discussed. All transparent RRAM devices exhibited the obvious memory window and low set voltage for the switching times of 120 cycles. The electrical transport mechanisms were dominated by the ohmic contact and space charge limit conduction (SCLC) models for set and reset states. Finally, the transmittances properties of the transparent ITO/ITOX/ITO RRAM devices for the different oxygen growth procedures were about 90% according to the UV–Vis spectrophotometer for the visible wavelength range. In this study, non-stoichiometry lead-free piezoelectric ceramic Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT) thick films were deposited on Pt/Ti/Si substrates using spin-coating method technology to form a LKNNT/Pt/Ti/Si structure of the micro-pressure thick films. Additionally, the influence on the crystalline properties, surface microstructure images, and mechanical properties, and the piezoelectric properties of the non-stoichiometry lead-free piezoelectric ceramic Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT) thick films were observed, analyzed, and calculated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy, nano-indention technology, and other instruments. This study was divided into two parts: The first part was the investigation into the fabrication parameters and properties of the bottom layer (Pt) and buffer layer (Ti). The Pt/Ti/Si structures were achieved by the DC sputtering method, and then the rapid thermal annealing (RTA) post-treatment process was used to re-arrange the grains and reduce defects in the lead-free Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT) thick films. In the second part, lead-free Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT) powder was prepared by the solid-state reaction method, and then acetic acid (C2H4O2) solvent was added to form a slurry for spin-coating technology processing. The fabrication parameters, thick film micro-structure, crystalline properties, nano-indention technology, and the piezoelectric coefficient characteristics of the developed lead-free Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT)/Pt/Ti/Si structure of the micro-pressure thick film devices a were investigated. According to the experimental results, the optimal fabrication processing parameters of the lead-free Li0.058(K0.48Na0.535)0.966(Nb0.9Ta0.1)O3 (LKNNT) were an RTA temperature of 500 °C, a Ti buffer-layer thickness of 273.9 nm, a Pt bottom electrode-layer thickness of 376.6 nm, a theoretical density of LKNNT of 4.789 g/cm3, a lattice constant of 3.968 × 10−8 cm, and a d33 value of 150 pm/V. Finally, regarding the mechanical properties of the micro-pressure devices for when a microforce of 3 mN was applied, the thick film revealed a hardness of 60 MPa, a Young's modulus of 13 GPa, and an elasticity interval of 1.25 μm, which are suitable for future applications of micro-pressure devices. Using two kinds of targets (gallium and silicon dioxide) and the rf magnetron sputtering deposited technique, GdOx:SiO2 thin film RRAM devices were deposited on TiN/Si substrate to form a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) structure. In addition, different oxygen concentrations and rf sputtering power parameters were prepared for the GdOx:SiO2 thin films. Decrease of the defects and oxygen vacancies of the GdOx:SiO2 thin films were used and repaired by rapid thermal annealing technology. Indium tin oxide (ITO) as the top electrode on the GdOx:SiO2 thin film was prepared by the physical vapor deposition (PVD) method, and ITO/GdOx:SiO2/TiN/Si structures of the GdOx:SiO2 thin films' RRAM devices were also made. In addition, the current–voltage curves and devices' endurance properties were measured by an impedance analyzer. Finally, the crystalline style, the preferred phase, the grain size, and surface microstructure of the thin films were analyzed and observed from X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope measurements. Although Western alien visitors to Taiwan have a unique, well-informed perspective of what appeals to tourists from their countries, little research has been conducted to assess their insights, representing a significant research gap. To fill this gap, this study aims to elucidate how international tourists perceive Taiwan as a tourist destination by collecting detailed qualitative data via in-depth interviews of twenty-four international expatriates. This study illustrated the image differences before and after the visit of international tourists by analyzing the dimensions of tourists' consensus maps and the changes in their perception of the natural, social, cultural, gourmet food, and Aboriginal image of Taiwan. This study provides a better understanding of how international tourists in Taiwan view its current and potential appeal as a tourist destination, so as to identify ways of attracting new tourists from their cultures. Patterns emerged that suggest new approaches for promoting Taiwan tourism and tourism sustainability which might not occur to Taiwanese tourism professionals due to the interviewees' unique points of view. This research concludes that the application of cultural promotion strategies, planned tour packages, and improvement of the image of nature, culture, society, food, and Aboriginal people in Taiwan will thereby improve the overall satisfaction of international tourists, building online image, and forming e-word-of-mouth. Bladder cancer (BC) is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. However, the recurrence rate and five-year survival rate have not been significantly improved in advanced BC, and new therapeutic strategies are urgently needed. The anticancer activity of stellettin B (SP-2), a triterpene isolated from the marine sponge Rhabdastrella sp., was evaluated with the MTT assay as well as PI and Annexin V/7-AAD staining. Detailed mechanisms were elucidated through an NGS analysis, protein arrays, and Western blotting. SP-2 suppressed the viability of BC cells without severe toxicity towards normal uroepithelial cells, and it increased apoptosis with the activation of caspase 3/8/9, PARP, and γH2AX. The phosphorylation of FGFR3 and its downstream targets were downregulated by SP-2. Meanwhile, it induced autophagy in BC cells as evidenced by LC3-II formation and p62 downregulation. The inhibition of autophagy using pharmacological inhibitors or through an ATG5-knockout protected RT-112 cells from SP-2-induced cell viability suppression and apoptosis. In addition, the upregulation of DAPK2 mRNA and protein expression also contributed to SP-2-induced cytotoxicity and apoptosis. In RT-112 cells, an FGFR3-TACC3-knockout caused the downregulation of DAPK2, autophagy, and apoptosis. In conclusion, this is the first study demonstrating that SP-2 exhibits potent anti-BC activity by suppressing the FGFR3-TACC3/Akt/mTOR pathway, which further activates a novel autophagy/DAPK2/apoptosis signaling cascade. Background: Readout-segmented echo-planar imaging (rs-EPI) with simultaneous multislice (SMS) technology has been successfully applied to tumor research in many organs, but no feasibility study in rectal cancer has been reported, and the optimal acceleration of SMS with rs-EPI in rectal cancer has not been well determined yet. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of SMS rs-EPI of rectal cancer with different acceleration factors (AFs) and its influence on image quality, acquisition time and apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) in comparison to conventional sequences. Methods: All patients underwent rs-EPI and SMS rs-EPI with AFs of 2 and 3 (2 × SMS rs-EPI and 3 × SMS rs-EPI, respectively) using a 3T scanner. Acquisition times of the three rs-EPI sequences were measured. Image qualitative parameters (5-point Likert scale), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), geometric distortion, and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of the three sequences were compared. Results: A total of eighty-three patients were enrolled in our study. rs-EPI and 2 × SMS rs-EPI offered equivalently high overall image quality with a scan time reduction to nearly half (rs-EPI: 137 s, 2 × SM rs-EPI: 60 s). 3 × SMS rs-EPI showed significantly poorer image quality (p < 0.05). ADC values were significantly lower in 3 × SMS rs-EPI compared to rs-EPI in rectal tumors and normal tissue (tumor tissue: rs-EPI 1.19 ± 0.21 × 10−3 mm2/s, 3 × SMS rs-EPI 1.10 ± 0.26 × 10−3 mm2/s, p < 0.001; normal tissue: rs-EPI 1.68 ± 0.13 × 10−3 mm2/s, 3 × SMS rs-EPI 1.54 ± 0.20 × 10−3 mm2/s, p < 0.001). Conclusions: SMS rs-EPI using an AF of 2 is feasible for rectal MRI resulting in substantial reductions in acquisition time while maintaining diagnostic image quality and similar ADC values to those of rs-EPI when the slice distance and number of shots are the same among three rs-EPI sequences. Inflammation is key to the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy (DR). This prospective study investigated alterations in inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in 41 people with type 1 diabetes (T1D), sub-grouped into mild non-proliferative DR (mNPDR; n = 13) and active and inactive (each n = 14) PDR. Age/gender-matched healthy controls (n = 13) were included. PBMCs were isolated from blood samples. Intracellular cytokine expression by PBMCs after 16-h stimulation (either E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS), phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate plus ionomycin, D-glucose or D-mannitol) were assessed by flow cytometry. Cytokine production in plasma, non-stimulated and LPS-stimulated PBMC supernatant was also assessed. Increased BMC IL-10 secretion and reduced expression of IL-6 and IFN-γ in CD3+ cells were observed in mNPDR. Reduced IL-6 and IL-10 secretion, and higher levels of intracellular IL-6 expression, especially in CD11b+ PBMCs, was detected in aPDR; levels were positively correlated with DR duration. Patients with T1D demonstrated increased intracellular expression of IL-17A in myeloid cells and reduced IFN-γ expression in CD3+ cells. Plasma levels of IL-1R1 were increased in mNPDR compared with controls. Results suggest that elevated PBMC-released IL-10, IL-6, in particular myeloid-produced IL-17A, may be involved in early stages of DR. IL-6-producing myeloid cells may play a role in PDR development. Microglia are neuroglia in the brain with an innate immune function and participate in the progress of neurodegenerative diseases. Osthole (OST) is a coumarin derivative extracted from Cnidium monnieri and bears a microglia-antagonizing ability. However, the underlying mechanism of the antagonism is not clear. The lipopolysaccharides-induced microglial BV2 cell line and amyloid-overexpressing fruit fly were used as models to study OST treatment. We found that OST treatment is sufficient to evoke NRF2 cascade under an LPS-induced inflammatory environment, and silencing NRF2 is sufficient to abolish the process. Moreover, we found that OST is sufficient to antagonize microglial activation in both LPS-induced BV2 cells and Aβ-overexpressing fruit flies, and silencing NRF2 abolishes OST's antagonism. Furthermore, OST treatment rescued survival, climbing, and the learning ability of Aβ-overexpressing fruit flies and relieved oxidative stress. In conclusion, we proved that OST antagonizes microglial activation induced by either LPS or Aβ and that NRF2 is necessary for OST's antagonism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
