This paper addresses the challenge of integrating multiple energy sources into a single-domain microgrid, commonly found in urban buildings, while also providing a platform for energy management. A Lyapunov stability analysis of a simple boost converter was used as a basis for designing the dual control loop of the grid. The versatility of the developed control structure allows for the incorporation of an arbitrary number of sources hence achieving scalability. Next, the energy in the microgrid was separated into exogenous energy and actuator energy. This yielded a description of the system that quantified the condition of stability independent of the decision made by a would-be energy management system. This, in turns, liberates the process of designing an optimized energy management system from stability concerns. The acquired theoretical findings were then translated to a simulation model, where multiple components of the grid were simulated under a typical scenario of operation. Once the simulation phase was concluded, a prototype of the designed grid was constructed to emulate the theoretical results. Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) integrating solar, wind, and storage technologies offer enhanced efficiency and reliability for grid-connected applications. However, existing control methods often struggle with maintaining DC voltage stability and minimizing power fluctuations, particularly under variable load conditions. This paper addresses this research gap by proposing a novel control strategy utilizing a PD (1+PI) regulator that combines proportional–integral (PI) and proportional–derivative (PD) controllers. Integrated into the HRES with maximum power point tracking (MPPT), the system includes solar panels, a storage unit, and a wind system featuring a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The PD (1+PI) regulator plays a critical role in stabilizing DC voltages within the storage system and collaborates with predictive direct power control (P-DPC) to improve current quality by mitigating fluctuations in active and reactive power. Comparative analysis against traditional direct power control methods shows that the proposed strategy reduces voltage fluctuation by 30% and improves energy utilization efficiency by 25%, validating its efficacy in managing energy from diverse sources to meet nonlinear load demands. The results demonstrate that integrating the PD (1+PI) regulator with MPPT and P-DPC approaches enhances power stability and optimizes energy utilization in grid-connected HRES, underscoring the effectiveness of this advanced control system. Even though Electric Powered Wheelchairs (EPWs) are a useful tool for meeting the needs of people with disabilities, some disabled people find it difficult to use regular EPWs that are joystick-controlled. Smart wheelchairs that use Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) technology present an efficient solution to this problem. This article presents a cutting-edge intelligent control wheelchair that is intended to improve user involvement and security. The suggested method combines facial expression analysis via a camera with EEG signal processing using the EMOTIV Insight EEG dataset. The system generates control commands by identifying specific EEG patterns linked to facial expressions such as eye blinking, winking left and right, and smiling. Simultaneously, the system uses computer vision algorithms and inertial measurements to analyze gaze direction in order to establish the user's intended steering. The outcomes of the experiments prove that the proposed system is reliable and efficient in meeting the various requirements of people, presenting a positive development in the field of smart wheelchair technology. The overexploitation of non-renewable fossil resources has led to dangerous warming of our planet due to greenhouse gas emissions. The main reason for this problem is the increase in global energy demand. The rising prices of oil and gas have pushed governments around the world to turn to renewable energy, especially solar and wind power. For this reason, the present paper aimed to focus on photovoltaic and wind energy systems. However, exploitation of these two sources individually is not always easy because of their intermittent and irregular characters. Therefore, the obvious solution is the hybridisation of these two sources, which, when used alongside other systems such as batteries, increases the reliability, availability, and efficiency of these renewable sources. The main objective of this paper is to give an overview of different configurations of hybrid solar and wind energy conversion systems. First, the behaviour of each system, as well as their mathematical models, characteristics, and existing topologies, is presented. In this paper, a robust current control of the hybrid renewable energy system (HRES), based on the PV-Wind system, is proposed. The HRES is connected to a multiport converter to synchronize the multi-source system with one DC-Bus. Due to their ability to integrate many renewable energy sources (RES) individually or simultaneously, multiport converters (MPC) are an innovative method suitable for renewable energy applications. Recently, many DC-DC converter designs and topologies have emerged to ensure the highest possible efficiency of hybrid RESs. The multiport converter is a typical coupling system with several modes of operation. Thus, the design of its controller become complicated. To stabilize the DC-Bus voltage, a battery has been added to the system. In this HRES configuration, all sources are connected in parallel via the multiport DC converter. We used the multiport DC converter to minimize the intermittent character of solar and wind and control the energy flow between the different power sources and the load, as well as to increase the performance of the system. The nonlinear robust control structure is based on Lyapunov approach to overcome the nonlinear model of the system to improve robustness and guarantees the asymptotic stability. The abrupt transfer from grid-connected (GC) to stand-alone (SA) operation modes is one of the major issues that may threaten the stability of a distributed generation (DG) system. Furthermore, if the islanding mode happens, it is vital to take into consideration the load voltages or load current waveforms as soon as feasible. This paper develops an advanced control technique based on a super-twisting sliding mode controller (ST-SMC) for a three-phase inverter operating in both the GC and SA modes. This control scheme is proposed to ensure a smooth transition from the GC to SA mode and enhance the load voltage waveforms under the islanding mode. In addition, to minimize the operational costs of the system and the complexity of the studied model, a digital Luenberger observer (DLO) with a proper design is adopted for estimating the inverter-side current. The control scheme of the whole system switches between a current control mode during the GC mode and a voltage control mode during the SA mode. The super-twisting control algorithm is applied to the outer voltage control loop involved in the cascaded voltage/current control scheme in the SA mode. Simulation tests of a three-phase inverter are performed for the purpose of assessing the suggested control performance by using the PowerSim (PSIM) software and comparing it with a classical PI controller. Furthermore, a processor-in-the-loop (PIL) implementation in a DSP board TMS32F28335 while debugging is conducted using code composer studio 6.2.0. The obtained results show efficient control properties, such as a smooth transition among the microgrid (MG) operating modes, as well as effectiveness and robustness during both the GC and SA operation modes. This paper describes an energy management strategy for a DC microgrid that utilizes a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) composed of a photovoltaic (PV) module, a wind turbine based on a permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG), and a battery energy storage system (BESS). The strategy is designed to provide a flexible and reliable system architecture that ensures continuous power supply to loads under all conditions. The control scheme is based on the generation of reference source currents and the management of power flux. To optimize the supply–demand balance and ensure optimal power sharing, the strategy employs artificial intelligence algorithms that use previous data, constantly updated forecasts (such as weather forecasts and local production data), and other factors to control all system components in an optimal manner. A double-input single-output DC–DC converter is used to extract the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) from each source. This allows the converter to still transfer power from one source to another even if one of the sources is unable to generate power. In this HRES configuration, all the sources are connected in parallel through the common DC–DC converter. The strategy also includes a long short-term memory (LSTM) network-based forecasting approach to predict the available energy production and the battery state of charge (SOC). In this work, we provide a smart home occupancy prediction technique based on environmental variables such as CO 2 , noise, and relative temperature via our machine learning method and forecasting strategy. The proposed algorithms enhance the energy management system through the optimal use of the electric heating system. The Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network is a special deep learning strategy for processing time series prediction that has shown promising prediction results in recent years. To improve the performance of the LSTM algorithm, particularly for autocorrelation prediction, we will focus on optimizing weight updates using various approaches such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The performances of the proposed methods are evaluated using real available datasets. Test results reveal that the GA and the PSO can forecast the parameters with higher prediction fidelity compared to the LSTM networks. Indeed, all experimental predictions reached a range in their correlation coefficients between 99.16% and 99.97%, which proves the efficiency of the proposed approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the steep rise in the development of smart grids and the current advancement in developing measuring infrastructure, short term power consumption forecasting has recently gained increasing attention. In fact, the prediction of future power loads turns out to be a key issue to avoid energy wastage and to build effective power management strategies. Furthermore, energy consumption information can be considered historical time series data that are required to extract all meaningful knowledge and then forecast the future consumption. In this work, we aim to model and to compare three different machine learning algorithms in making a time series power forecast. The proposed models are the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), the Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) and the Drop-GRU. We are going to use the power consumption data as our time series dataset and make predictions accordingly. The LSTM neural network has been favored in this work to predict the future load consumption and prevent consumption peaks. To provide a comprehensive evaluation of this method, we have performed several experiments using real data power consumption in some French cities. Experimental results on various time horizons show that the LSTM model produces a better result than the GRU and the Drop-GRU forecasting methods. There are fewer prediction errors and its precision is finer. Therefore, these predictions based on the LSTM method will allow us to make decisions in advance and trigger load shedding in cases where consumption exceeds the authorized threshold. This paper introduces an energy management strategy for an off-grid hybrid energy system. The hybrid system consists of a photovoltaic (PV) module, a LiFePO4 battery pack coupled with a Battery Management System (BMS), a hybrid solar inverter, and a load management control unit. A Long Short-Term Memory network (LSTM)-based forecasting strategy is implemented to predict the available PV and battery power. The learning data are extracted from an African country with a tropical climate, which is very suitable for PV power applications. Using LSTM as a prediction method significantly increases the efficiency of the forecasting. The main objective of the proposed strategy is to control the different loads according to the forecasted energy availability of the system and the forecasted battery state of charge (SOC). The proposed management algorithm and the system are tested using Matlab/Simulink software. A comparative study demonstrates that the reduction in the energy deficit of the system is approximately 53% compared to the system without load management.
