IRAK4 is a critical mediator in NF-κB-regulated inflammatory signaling and has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of autoimmune diseases; however, none of its inhibitors have received FDA approval. In this study, we identified a novel small-molecule IRAK4 kinase inhibitor, DW18134, with an IC50 value of 11.2 nM. DW18134 dose-dependently inhibited the phosphorylation of IRAK4 and IKK in primary peritoneal macrophages and RAW264.7 cells, inhibiting the secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 in both cell lines. The in vivo study demonstrated the efficacy of DW18134, significantly attenuating behavioral scores in an LPS-induced peritonitis model. Mechanistically, DW18134 reduced serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels and attenuated inflammatory tissue injury. By directly blocking IRAK4 activation, DW18134 diminished liver macrophage infiltration and the expression of related inflammatory cytokines in peritonitis mice. Additionally, in the DSS-induced colitis model, DW18134 significantly reduced the disease activity index (DAI) and normalized food and water intake and body weight. Furthermore, DW18134 restored intestinal damage and reduced inflammatory cytokine expression in mice by blocking the IRAK4 signaling pathway. Notably, DW18134 protected DSS-threatened intestinal barrier function by upregulating tight junction gene expression. The harsh service environment of aeroengine hot-end components requires superalloys possessing excellent antioxidant properties. This study investigated the effect of pre-strain on the oxidation behavior of polycrystalline Ni3Al-based superalloys. The growth behaviors of oxidation products were analyzed by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicated that the 5% pre-strained alloys exhibited lower mass gain, shallower oxidation depth and more compact oxide film structures compared to the original alloy. This is mainly attributed to the formation of rapid diffusion paths for Al atoms diffusing to the surface under 5% pre-strain, which promotes the faster formation of protective Al2O3 film while continuing to increase the pre-strain to 25% results in less protective transient oxidation behavior being aggravated due to the increase in dislocation density within the alloy, which prevents the timely formation of the protective Al2O3 film, resulting in uneven oxidation behavior on the alloy. Gesture recognition technology has been quickly developed in the field of human–computer interaction. The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar is popular in gesture recognition because of its notable spatial resolution. This work proposes a MIMO radar-based hand gesture recognition algorithm with low complexity. We leverage low-complexity adaptive signal processing to extract trajectory information and minimize noise to create a system that can be applied in real-world applications with small training datasets. First, a spectrum analysis is utilized on range-Doppler maps (RDMs), and a cell-averaging constant false alarm rate (CA-CFAR) with mirror filters is applied to improve the robustness of noise. Then, the features related to the distance, speed, direction, and elevation angle of the moving object are determined using the proposed adaptive signal analysis techniques. For classification, the random forest algorithm is implemented. The proposed system can precisely distinguish and identify eight gestures, including waving, moving to the left or right, patting, pushing, pulling, and rotating clockwise or anti-clockwise, with an accuracy of 95%. Background: Arnicolide C, which is isolated from Centipeda minima, has excellent antitumor effects. However, the potential impacts and related mechanisms of action of arnicolide C in breast cancer remain unknown. Methods: The viability of breast cancer cells was measured using MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and colony formation assays. For analysis of apoptosis and the cell cycle, flow cytometry was used. A molecular docking approach was used to explore the possible targets of arnicolide C. Western blot analysis was used to detect changes in the expression of 14-3-3θ and proteins in related pathways after arnicolide C treatment in breast cancer cells. The anti-breast cancer effect of arnicolide C in vivo was evaluated by establishing cell-derived xenograft (CDX) and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models. Results: Arnicolide C inhibited proliferation, increased apoptosis, and induced G1 arrest. In particular, molecular docking analysis indicated that arnicolide C binds to 14-3-3θ. Arnicolide C reduced 14-3-3θ expression and inhibited its downstream signaling pathways linked to cell proliferation. Similar results were obtained in the CDX and PDX models. Conclusion: Arnicolide C can have an anti-breast cancer effect both in vitro and in vivo and can induce cell cycle arrest and increase apoptosis in vitro. The molecular mechanism may be related to the effect of arnicolide C on the expression level of 14-3-3θ. Bananas are susceptible to the effects of endogenous enzymatic, leading to their rapid decay and deterioration. In order to mitigate economic losses and prolong the shelf life of bananas, the objective of this study was to develop a new and green gas-regulating packaging film. In this study, an active gas-regulating packaging film was prepared by extrusion, with mobil composition of matter (MCM)-41 loaded with salicylic acid (SA) as the active agent and poly (lactic acid) (PLA), poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), and thermoplastic starch (TPS) as the base materials. The obtained films included PLA/PBAT/TPS, PLA/PBAT/TPS-SA, and PLA/PBAT/TPS-MCSA. These films were subsequently applied to banana preservation. The study focused on the variations in soluble solid content (SSC), rate of weight loss (RWL), malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity of bananas during the preservation process. The results showed that, compared with the PLA/PBAT/TPS film, the oxygen transmission rate of the PLA/PBAT/TPS-MCSA film increased from 384.36 ± 22.06 cm3·m−2·24 h−1·0.1 MPa−1 to 543.10 ± 3.47 cm3·m−2·24 h−1·0.1 MPa−1. Throughout the preservation period, the PLA/PBAT/TPS-MCSA film exhibited superior performance, effectively retarding the increase in banana SSC, RWL, and MDA while inhibiting the elevation of PPO activity and prolonging the shelf life of bananas by 4–5 days. Al-0.5Mg-0.4Si-0.1Cu alloy possessing weather resistance and oxidation resistance can obtain good surface quality (metallic luster) without chrome plating. Therefore, it is an important material to replace polluting chrome-plated aluminum profiles for automotive decorative parts. At present, studies about the extrusion process of Al-0.5Mg-0.4Si-0.1Cu alloy are very few, which affects its further application. In this work, the effect of extrusion ratios on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-0.5Mg-0.4Si-0.1Cu alloy is investigated by optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile tests. The results showed that the dynamic recrystallization degree of the alloy gradually increased with the extrusion ratio increasing, which is attributed to the driving force provided by the large extrusion ratio. Meanwhile, due to the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization, the texture changed from <111> to <001> orientation. In addition, grains were obviously refined and uniform with the extrusion ratio increasing. Due to the fine grain strengthening mechanism, the tensile strength and elongation of the alloy with an extrusion ratio of 30 reached 152 MPa and 32.4%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fracture failure of super 13Cr can occur in complex and harsh environments such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive gas wells, which damages the economic benefit of oil and gas development and also poses a great threat to wellbore integrity. Therefore, it is urgent to study the corrosion mechanism of super 13Cr tubing in oil and gas wells, and this study performed an on-site experimental analysis on failed super 13Cr tubing, employing the microarea electrochemical scanning Kelvin probe (SKP) method to investigate the causes of corrosion of super 13Cr material. In addition, the thermodynamics of the mechanism by which pits turn into cracks was examined in light of the experimental findings on the nucleation and development of pitting corrosion. The findings reveal scale and clear pits on the surface of the failed super 13Cr tubing and that CaCO3 as well as FeCO3 are the scale's primary constituents. According to the SKP scan results, the super 13Cr tubing has a risk of pitting under wells, and the galvanic cell with microcorrosion is the primary cause of pitting corrosion, which also shows that the potential difference between the anode area and the cathode area of the super 13Cr material gradually increases with the increase in immersion time. Under the autocatalytic effect of the occlusive corrosion cell and the applied load, the corrosion pits and cracks of super 13Cr tubing propagate, eventually leading to tubing breaks and failure. For power retailers in a smart grid, it is necessary to design an economic dispatch method to maintain a balance between power supply and demand on the sale side as well as obtain better economic benefits. This study concentrates on the economic dispatch of the dominant retailer in a regional market. The dominant retailer is considered to be equipped with generator resources such as distributed photovoltaics (PV), wind turbines (WT), and microturbines (MT). As one retailer cannot exactly predict the market conditions of other retailers, the retail market is considered to be modeled as a dichotomous-market model consisting of the dominant retailer market and the other retailers market. As a result, a bi-level optimal dispatch model is proposed for the dominant power retailer based on the dichotomous-market model. In the proposed model, the outer problem aims to minimize the costs of purchases under time-of-use (TOU) price given in the market clearing process, while the inner problem is formulated to simulate the process of market clearing. Furthermore, the bi-level model is converted to a single-level model via the Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) conditions and eventually solved by employing the YALMIP toolbox with Gurobi solver. (1) Background: Atrial scars play an important role in atrial tachycardia (AT). They can not only be found in patients with prior cardiac surgery (PCS) but also in patients without PCS or significant structural heart disease, in which case the scar is called a spontaneous scar (SS). This study aims to compare the characteristics, mechanisms and ablation outcomes of AT in patients with PCS and SS. (2) Methods: We retrospectively reviewed electrophysiological and ablative characteristics of ATs in 46 patients with PCS and 18 patients with SS. (3) Results: There were averages of 1.52 and 2.33 ATs per patient in the PCS group and SS group, respectively (p < 0.01). Cavo-tricuspid isthmus dependent atrial flutter (CTI-AFL) was presented in most patients in both groups (93.50% vs. 77.80%, p = 0.17), whereas the SS group had a higher occurrence of scar-mediated reentrant AT (SMAT) and focal AT (FAT) compared with the PCS group (88.90% vs. 39.10%, p < 0.01; 22.2% vs. 2.2%, p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in acute success rate between the two groups, whereas patients with SS had lower long-term success rate (87.0% vs. 61.1%, p < 0.05) and higher occurrence of sinus node dysfunction (SND) (4.3% vs. 22.2%, p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: CTI-AFL is common in both patients with PCS and SS, and routine CTI ablation is recommended. Compared with patients with PCS, patients with SS have more ATs, especially with higher occurrence of SMAT and FAT, and had a lower long-term success rate and higher incidence of SND. Maintaining the ecological security of arid Central Asia (CA) is essential for the sustainable development of arid CA. Based on the moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) data stored on the Google Earth Engine (GEE), this paper investigated the spatiotemporal changes and factors related to ecological environment quality (EEQ) in CA from 2000 to 2020 using the remote sensing ecological index (RSEI). The RSEI values in CA during 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020 were 0.379, 0.376, 0.349, 0.360, and 0.327, respectively; the unchanged/improved/deteriorated areas during 2000–2005, 2005–2010, 2010–2015, and 2015–2020 were about 83.21/7.66%/9.13%, 77.28/6.68%/16.04%, 79.03/11.99%/8.98%, and 81.29/2.16%/16.55%, respectively, which indicated that the EEQ of CA was poor and presented a trend of gradual deterioration. Consistent with the RSEI trend, Moran's I index values in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020 were 0.905, 0.893, 0.901, 0.898, and 0.884, respectively, revealing that the spatial distribution of the EEQ was clustered rather than random. The high–high (H-H) areas were mainly located in mountainous areas, and the low–low (L-L) areas were mainly distributed in deserts. Significant regions were mainly located in H-H and L-L, and most reached the significance level of 0.01, indicating that EEQ exhibited strong correlation. The EEQ in CA is affected by both natural and human factors. Among the natural factors, greenness and wetness promoted the EEQ, while heat and dryness reduced the EEQ, and heat had greater effects than the other three indexes. Human factors such as population growth, overgrazing, and hydropower development are important factors affecting the EEQ. Biofouling caused by protein adsorption and microbial colonization remains a great challenge in many applications. In this work, we synthesized a new type of zwitterionic polypeptoid containing carboxybetaine (CB) moieties (PeptoidCB) through thiol–ene chemistry of poly(N-allylglycine) (PNAG). The zwitterionic antifouling hydrogel was subsequently prepared by co-mixing PeptoidCB with agarose, which exhibited excellent resistance to non-specific protein adsorption and bacterial adhesion. Further, PeptoidCB-modified block copolypeptoids with amphiphilic structure were synthesized to form nanoparticles in an aqueous solution with neglected protein adsorption. Background: The selection of the maintenance of general anesthesia may affect the development of postoperative delirium (POD), notably for Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, due to their lower cognitive reserve. The present study was designed to compare the potential impact of propofol vs. sevoflurane based general anesthesia maintenance methods on the development of POD in PD patients following deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery. Methods: A total of 125 PD patients who were scheduled to undergo DBS surgery were randomly divided into the propofol (n = 63) and the sevoflurane groups (n = 62). The patients in the two groups randomly received propofol- or sevoflurane-based general anesthesia. The Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) was employed by an investigator who was blinded to the anesthesia regimen and was administered twice per day from postoperative day 1 until discharge. Results: The incidence of POD was 22.22% (14/63) with propofol anesthesia and 20.97% (13/62) with sevoflurane anesthesia (p = 0.865). In addition, no difference was noted in the duration and severity of delirium between the propofol and sevoflurane groups. Conclusions: In the present study, propofol- and sevoflurane-based general anesthesia exhibited comparable results with regard to the POD incidence in PD patients undergoing deep brain stimulation surgery. The motivation of this paper is to address the limitations of the conventional keypoint-based disparity estimation methods. Conventionally, disparity estimation is usually based on the local information of keypoints. However, keypoints may distribute sparsely in the smooth region, and keypoints with the same descriptors may appear in a symmetric pattern. Therefore, conventional keypoint-based disparity estimation methods may have limited performance in smooth and symmetric regions. The proposed algorithm is superpixel-based. Instead of performing keypoint matching, both keypoint and semiglobal information are applied to determine the disparity in the proposed algorithm. Since the local information of keypoints and the semi-global information of the superpixel are both applied, the accuracy of disparity estimation can be improved, especially for smooth and symmetric regions. Moreover, to address the non-uniform distribution problem of keypoints, a disparity refining mechanism based on the similarity and the distance of neighboring superpixels is applied to correct the disparity of the superpixel with no or few keypoints. Mitochondria are structurally and functionally unique organelles in male gametes. Apparently, as the only organelles remaining in mature sperm, mitochondria not only produce adeno-sine triphosphate (ATP) through oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) to support sperm mobility, but also play key roles in regulating reactive oxidation species (ROS) signaling, calcium homeostasis, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and apoptosis. Mitochondrial dysfunction is often associated with the aging process. Age-dependent alterations of the epididymis can cause alterations in sperm mitochondrial functioning. The resultant cellular defects in sperm have been implicated in male infertility. Among these, oxidative stress (OS) due to the overproduction of ROS in mitochondria may represent one of the major causes of these disorders. Excessive ROS can trigger DNA damage, disturb calcium homeostasis, impair OXPHOS, disrupt the integrity of the sperm lipid membrane, and induce apoptosis. Given these facts, scavenging ROS by antioxidants hold great potential in terms of finding promising therapeutic strategies to treat male infertility. Here, we summarize the progress made in understanding mitochondrial dysfunction, aging, and male infertility. The clinical potential of antioxidant interventions was also discussed. Fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs), a subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases, are aberrant in various cancer types, and considered to be promising targets for cancer therapy. We started with a weak-active compound that was identified from our internal hepatocyte growth factor receptor (also called c-Met) inhibitor project, and optimized it with the guidance of a co-crystal structure of compound 8 with FGFR1. Through rational design, synthesis, and the biological evaluation of a series of 5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazine derivatives, we discovered several potent FGFR kinase inhibitors. Reservoirs play a vital role in agricultural irrigation, food security, and ecological protection in arid and semi–arid areas where water resources are scarce. In the Tarim Basin (TB) in northwestern China, a large number of reservoirs have been built or are being built, resulting in significant evaporation losses. However, information about the distribution, area and evaporation rate of the reservoirs in TB is limited. To contribute, we present an inventory of reservoirs and calculate their monthly surface area and evaporation rate during the study period of 1990–2019, using the TerraClimate dataset, Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, Landtrendr algorithm, Penman method, and Landsat images. The results suggest: (1) The inventory of 167 reservoirs in TB consists of 142 existing reservoirs (built before 1990), 5 new reservoirs (mountain reservoirs, built during 1990–2019), and 20 dried–up reservoirs (plain reservoirs that went extinct during 1990–2019). (2) The reservoir types in TB are mainly plain reservoirs with an altitude of less than 1500 m and an area of less than 10 km2, accounting for about 88% of the total number of reservoirs. (3) The surface area of the reservoirs increased at a significant rate (p < 0.05) of 12.45 km2/y from 401 km2 in 1990 to 766 km2 in 2019. (4) The evaporation rate of the reservoirs increased at a slight trend of 0.004 mm/d/a and varied from 2.57 mm/d in 1990 to 2.39 mm/d in 2019. Lastly, (5) The evaporation losses of reservoirs in TB significantly increased (p < 0.05) from 4.72 × 108 m3 to 4.92 × 108 m3 due to the significant increase in reservoir surface area (p < 0.05) and the slight increase in evaporation rate from 1990 to 2019. This study provides essentials of the reservoir inventory, surface area, and evaporation rate with considerable baseline inferences for TB that may be beneficial for long–term investigations and assist in local water resources decision support and sustainable management in arid regions. Tea oil camellia (Camellia oleifera), an important woody oil tree, is a source of seed oil of high nutritional and medicinal value that is widely planted in southern China. However, there is no report on the identification of the miRNAs involved in lipid metabolism and seed development in the high- and low-oil cultivars of tea oil camellia. Thus, we explored the roles of miRNAs in the key periods of oil formation and accumulation in the seeds of tea oil camellia and identified miRNA–mRNA regulatory modules involved in lipid metabolism and seed development. Sixteen small RNA libraries for four development stages of seed oil biosynthesis in high- and low-oil cultivars were constructed. A total of 196 miRNAs, including 156 known miRNAs from 35 families, and 40 novel miRNAs were identified, and 55 significantly differentially expressed miRNAs were found, which included 34 upregulated miRNAs, and 21 downregulated miRNAs. An integrated analysis of the miRNA and mRNA transcriptome sequence data revealed that 10 miRNA–mRNA regulatory modules were related to lipid metabolism; for example, the regulatory modules of ath-miR858b–MYB82/MYB3/MYB44 repressed seed oil biosynthesis, and a regulation module of csi-miR166e-5p–S-ACP-DES6 was involved in the formation and accumulation of oleic acid. A total of 23 miRNA–mRNA regulatory modules were involved in the regulation of the seed size, such as the regulatory module of hpe-miR162a_L-2–ARF19, involved in early seed development. A total of 12 miRNA–mRNA regulatory modules regulating growth and development were identified, such as the regulatory modules of han-miR156a_L+1–SPL4/SBP2, promoting early seed development. The expression changes of six miRNAs and their target genes were validated using quantitative real-time PCR, and the targeting relationship of the cpa-miR393_R-1–AFB2 regulatory module was verified by luciferase assays. Acyclovir (ACV) is an effective and selective antiviral drug, and the study of its toxicology and the use of appropriate detection techniques to control its toxicity at safe levels are extremely important for medicine efforts and human health. This review discusses the mechanism driving ACV's ability to inhibit viral coding, starting from its development and pharmacology. A comprehensive summary of the existing preparation methods and synthetic materials, such as 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide, guanine and its derivatives, and other purine derivatives, is presented to elucidate the preparation of ACV in detail. In addition, it presents valuable analytical procedures for the toxicological studies of ACV, which are essential for human use and dosing. Analytical methods, including spectrophotometry, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), electrochemical sensors, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), and flow injection–chemiluminescence (FI-CL) are also highlighted. A brief description of the characteristics of each of these methods is also presented. Finally, insight is provided for the development of ACV to drive further innovation of ACV in pharmaceutical applications. Monocular vision is one of the most commonly used noncontact six-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) pose estimation methods. However, the large translational DOF measurement error along the optical axis of the camera is one of its main weaknesses, which greatly limits the measurement accuracy of monocular vision measurement. In this paper, we propose a novel monocular camera and 1D laser rangefinder (LRF) fusion strategy to overcome this weakness and design a remote and ultra-high precision cooperative targets 6-DOF pose estimation sensor. Our approach consists of two modules: (1) a feature fusion module that precisely fuses the initial pose estimated from the camera and the depth information obtained by the LRF. (2) An optimization module that optimizes pose and system parameters. The performance of our proposed 6-DOF pose estimation method is validated using simulations and real-world experiments. The experimental results show that our fusion strategy can accurately integrate the information of the camera and the LRF. Further optimization carried out on this basis effectively reduces the measurement error of monocular vision 6-DOF pose measurement. The experimental results obtained from a prototype show that its translational and rotational DOF measurement accuracy can reach up to 0.02 mm and 15″, respectively, at a distance of 10 m. Simple Summary: After weaning, pigs are subjected to a variety of nutritional, psychological and environmental stresses. Historically, weaning age was determined knowing that antibiotics could be included in postweaning diets for piglets. The use of antibiotic growth promoters to help prevent weaning stress in weaned pigs has been forbidden in Japan, Korea, the European Union and China. In this study, intestinal morphology, pH of the stomach and antioxidant status of pigs weaned at 28 d were better than pigs weaned at 21 d. These results indicated that strategies including enhancing the intestinal absorption function and antioxidant ability in weaned pigs can improve growth performance and decrease diarrhea incidence. The study objective was to assess effects of different weaning ages on growth performance, intestinal morphology and redox status in Duroc × Landrace × Large White piglets (n = 96) fed diets without antibiotic growth promoters. Piglets were selected from 24 litters based on similar body weight at 14 d of age. All piglets were allocated to two groups in a completely random design with six replicates and eight pigs per replicate (four barrows and four gilts), which were weaned at 21 (n = 48; BW = 6.87 ± 0.33 kg) and 28 (n = 48; BW = 8.49 ± 0.41 kg) days of age. After weaning, pigs were fed a corn–soybean meal-based diet. Average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), feed conversion (F:G), diarrhea incidence, gastrointestinal pH, intestinal morphology and redox status were determined. Pigs weaned at 28 d displayed increased ADG from d 8 to 14 (p < 0.01) compared with pigs weaned at 21 d. Pigs weaned at 28 d had a higher ADFI from d 0 to 7 (p < 0.01), d 8 to 14 (p < 0.01), d 15 to 28 (p < 0.05) and during the entire experimental period (p < 0.01) compared with pigs weaned at 21 d. Pigs weaned at 21 d had an improved F:G from d 15 to 28 (p < 0.05) compared with pigs weaned at 28 d. Pigs weaned at 28 d had decreased diarrhea incidence from d 8 to 14 (p < 0.01) and the entire experimental period (p < 0.01) compared with pigs weaned at 21 d. On d 28, the pH of the stomach contents in pigs weaned at 21 d was significantly higher compared with pigs weaned at 28 d (p < 0.01). On d 14, the morphology of the duodenum, jejunum and ileum in pigs weaned at 28 d was improved compared with pigs weaned at 21 d. During the experiment period, the antioxidant abilities of pigs weaned at 28 d of the heart, liver, kidney, intestinal and serum were better than pigs weaned at 21 d. In conclusion, intestinal morphology, pH of the stomach and antioxidant status of pigs weaned at 28 d were better than pigs weaned at 21 d. Simple Summary: Sericulture has always been threatened by Glyphodes pyloalis Walker (G. pyloalis). Trehalase is an essential enzyme in chitin metabolism and energy supply. In this study, two trehalase genes in G. pyloalis (GpTre1 and GpTre2) were identified and functionally analyzed. Knockdown of the two genes led to the significant downregulation of chitin metabolism pathway-related genes, the difficulty in molting of larvae, and the deformation of adult wings. Moreover, the trehalase inhibitor, Validamycin A, treatment increased GpTre1 and GpTre2 expression and affected the expressions of chitin metabolism pathway-related genes. The inhibitor also caused a significantly increased cumulative mortality of larvae. The results suggested that GpTre1 and GpTre2 played a vital role on G. pyloalis development, which could be useful for providing information for insect pest control in the future. Trehalase is an essential enzyme in trehalose hydrolysis and energy supply, and it has been considered a promising target for insect pest control. However, the specific function of trehalase in G. pyloalis has not been reported. In this study, two trehalase genes (GpTre1 and GpTre2) were identified from our previous transcriptome database. The functions of the trehalase in chitin metabolism were studied by injecting larvae with dsRNAs and trehalase inhibitor, Validamycin A. The open reading frames (ORFs) of GpTre1 and GpTre2 were 1,704 bp and 1,869 bp, which encoded 567 and 622 amino acid residues, respectively. Both of GpTre1 and GpTre2 were mainly expressed in the head and midgut. The highest expression levels of them were in 5th instar during different development stages. Moreover, knockdown both of GpTre1 and GpTre2 by the dsRNAs led to significantly decreased expression of chitin metabolism pathway-related genes, including GpCHSA, GpCDA1, GpCDA2, GpCHT3a, GpCHT7, GpCHSB, GpCHT-h, GpCHT3b, GpPAGM, and GpUAP, and abnormal phenotypes. Furthermore, the trehalase inhibitor, Validamycin A, treatment increased the expressions of GpTre1 and GpTre2, increased content of trehalose, and decreased the levels of glycogen and glucose. Additionally, the inhibitor caused a significantly increased cumulative mortality of G. pyloalis larvae on the 2nd (16%) to 6th (41.3%) day, and decreased the rate of cumulative pupation (72.3%) compared with the control group (95.6%). After the activities of trehalase were suppressed, the expressions of 6 integument chitin metabolism-related genes decreased significantly at 24 h and increased at 48 h. The expressions of GpCHSB and GpCHT-h, involved in chitin metabolism pathway of peritrophic membrane in the midgut, increased at 24 h and 48 h, and there were no changes to GpCHT3b and GpPAGM. These results reveal that GpTre1 and GpTre2 play an essential role in the growth of G. pyloalis by affecting chitin metabolism, and this provides useful information for insect pest control in the future. Glyphodes pyloalis Walker (G. pyloalis) causes significant damage to mulberry every year, and we currently lack effective and environmentally friendly ways to control the pest. Chitin synthase (CHS) is a critical regulatory enzyme related to chitin biosynthesis, which plays a vital role in the growth and development of insects. The function of CHS in G. pyloalis, however, has not been studied. In this study, two chitin synthase genes (GpCHSA and GpCHSB) were screened from our previously created transcriptome database. The complete coding sequences of the two genes are 5,955 bp and 5,896 bp, respectively. Expression of GpCHSA and GpCHSB could be detected throughout all developmental stages. Relatively high expression levels of GpCHSA occurred in the head and integument and GpCHSB was most highly expressed in the midgut. Moreover, silencing of GpCHSA and GpCHSB using dsRNA reduced expression of downstream chitin metabolism pathway genes and resulted in abnormal development and wings stretching, but did not affect normal pupating of larvae. Furthermore, the inhibitor of chitin synthesis diflubenzuron (DFB) was used to further validate the RNAi result. DFB treatment significantly improved expression of GpCHSA, except GpCHSB, and their downstream genes, and also effected G. Pyloali molting at 48 h (62% mortality rate) and 72 h (90% mortality rate), respectively. These results show that GpCHSA and GpCHSB play critical roles in the development and wing stretching in G. pyloalis adults, indicating that the genes are attractive potential pest control targets. In this work, closed-cell aluminum foams with 4 wt.% contents of short-cut basalt fibers (BFs) were successful prepared by using the modified melt-foaming method. The pore size of BF-containing aluminum foam and commercially pure aluminum foam was counted. The distribution of BF and its effect on the compressive properties of closed-cell aluminum foams were investigated. The results showed that the pore size of BF-containing aluminum foams was more uniform and smaller. BF mainly existed in three different forms: Some were totally embedded in the cell walls, some protruded from the cell walls, and others penetrated through the cells. Meanwhile, under the present condition, BF-containing aluminum foams possessed higher compressive strength and energy absorption characteristics than commercially pure aluminum foams, and the reasons were discussed. Separators in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) play an important role for battery safety, so stable electrochemical performance and high mechanical strength of separators will always be of interest. On the basis of the fact that polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles found in mussel have a strong adhesion ability, biomaterial surface nanoparticles modification methods are developed to increase electrochemical performance and enhance mechanical strength of polypropylene (PP) and polypropylene/polyethylene/polypropylene (PP/PE/PP) separators. The electrolyte uptake performance, ionic conductivities, discharging rate capabilities, yield stresses, and failure strains of PP and PP/PE/PP separators are all enhanced remarkably by PDA modification. Thermal shrinkage results show that thermal stabilities and the shrinkage percentage of PDA-modified separators are improved. The electrochemical testing results conclude that the discharging capacities of PP (increased by 3.77%~187.57%) and PP/PE/PP (increased by 2.31%~92.21%) separators increase remarkably from 0.1 C to 5.0 C. The ionic conductivities of PDA-modified PP and PP/PE/PP separators are 1.5 times and 6.1 times higher than that of unmodified PP and PP/PE/PP separators, which in turn increase the electrolyte uptake and ionic migration. In addition, mechanical properties of PP (yield stresses: 17.48%~100.11%; failure stresses: 13.45%~82.71%; failure strains: 4.08%~303.13%) and PP/PE/PP (yield stresses: 11.77%~296.00%; failure stresses: 12.50%~248.30%; failure strains: 16.53%~32.56%) separators are increased greatly. Object detection in aerial images is a fundamental yet challenging task in remote sensing field. As most objects in aerial images are in arbitrary orientations, oriented bounding boxes (OBBs) have a great superiority compared with traditional horizontal bounding boxes (HBBs). However, the regression-based OBB detection methods always suffer from ambiguity in the definition of learning targets, which will decrease the detection accuracy. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive analysis of OBB representations and cast the OBB regression as a pixel-level classification problem, which can largely eliminate the ambiguity. The predicted masks are subsequently used to generate OBBs. To handle huge scale changes of objects in aerial images, an Inception Lateral Connection Network (ILCN) is utilized to enhance the Feature Pyramid Network (FPN). Furthermore, a Semantic Attention Network (SAN) is adopted to provide the semantic feature, which can help distinguish the object of interest from the cluttered background effectively. Empirical studies show that the entire method is simple yet efficient. The effect of Sn addition on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of extruded Mg–5Zn–4Al–xSn (0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 wt %) alloys was investigated by optical microscopy (OM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electrochemical measurements, and immersion tests. Microstructural results showed that the average grain size decreased to some degree and the amount of precipitates increased with the increasing amount of Sn. The extruded Mg–5Zn–4Al–xSn alloy mainly consisted of α-Mg, Mg32(Al,Zn)49, and Mg2Sn phases as the content of Sn was above 1 wt %. Electrochemical measurements indicated that the extruded Mg–5Zn–4Al–1Sn (ZAT541) alloy presented the best corrosion performances, with corrosion potential (Ecorr) and corrosion current density (Icorr) values of −1.3309 V and 6.707 × 10−6 A·cm−2, respectively. By exchanging between its different oxidized forms, iron overload induces free radical formation, lipid peroxidation, DNA, and protein damages, leading to carcinogenesis or ferroptosis. Iron also plays profound roles in modulating tumor microenvironment and metastasis, maintaining genomic stability and controlling epigenetics. in order to meet the high requirement of iron, neoplastic cells have remodeled iron metabolism pathways, including acquisition, storage, and efflux, which makes manipulating iron homeostasis a considerable approach for cancer therapy. Several iron chelators and iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) has recently been developed for cancer intervention and presented considerable effects. This review summarizes some latest findings about iron metabolism function and regulation mechanism in cancer and the application of iron chelators and IONPs in cancer diagnosis and therapy. Magnesium composite foams with 10 vol. % of hollow ceramic microspheres (CMs) were prepared by modified melt foaming method. Specimens with homogeneous pore structures were subjected to various heating temperature (150, 250, 320, 400, and 500 °C, respectively) and enduring times (1, 2, 4, 6, and 24 h, respectively). Evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of the samples, before and after the heating processes were examined by applying X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and quasi-static uniaxial compression test. The results showed that as heating temperature and enduring time increasing, β-Mg17Al12 phases gradually dissolved, resulting in a solid-solution strengthening effect. Meanwhile, internal stress relaxation in the matrix leads to the decrease of yield strength and micro hardness of the specimens. When compared with the unheated foams, the treated specimens possessed lower micro-hardness, yield strength, and energy absorption capacity due to the dissolution of β-Mg17Al12 phases and the release of internal stress. However, higher strain hardening exponents for almost all of the treated composite foams were observed and the reasons were discussed. The closed-cell micro-pore magnesium composite foam with hollow ceramic microspheres (CMs) was fabricated by a modified melt foaming method. The effect of CMs on the compressive deformation behavior of CM-containing magnesium composite foam was investigated. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used for observation of the microstructure. Finite element modeling of the magnesium composite foam was established to predict localized stress, fracture of CMs, and the compressive deformation behavior of the foam. The results showed that CMs and pores directly affected the compressive deformation behavior of the magnesium composite foam by sharing a part of load applied on the foam. Meanwhile, the presence of Mg2Si phase influenced the mechanical properties of the foam by acting as the crack source during the compression process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Timely monitoring and mapping of salt-affected areas are essential for the prevention of land degradation and sustainable soil management in arid and semi-arid regions. The main objective of this study was to develop Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) polarimetry techniques for improved soil salinity mapping in the Keriya Oasis in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (Xinjiang), China, where salinized soil appears to be a major threat to local agricultural productivity. Multiple polarimetric target decomposition, optimal feature subset selection (wrapper feature selector, WFS), and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms were used for optimal soil salinization classification using quad-polarized PALSAR-2 data. A threefold exercise was conducted. First, 16 polarimetric decomposition methods were implemented and a wide range of polarimetric parameters and SAR discriminators were derived in order to mine hidden information in PolSAR data. Second, the optimal polarimetric feature subset that constitutes 19 polarimetric elements was selected adopting the WFS approach; optimum classification parameters were identified, and the optimal SVM classification model was obtained by employing a cross-validation method. Third, the WFS-SVM classification model was constructed, optimized, and implemented based on the optimal match of polarimetric features and optimum classification parameters. Soils with different salinization degrees (i.e., highly, moderately and slightly salinized soils) were extracted. Finally, classification results were compared with the Wishart supervised classification and conventional SVM classification to examine the performance of the proposed method for salinity mapping. Detailed field investigations and ground data were used for the validation of the adopted methods. The overall accuracy and kappa coefficient of the proposed WFS-SVM model were 87.57% and 0.85, respectively that were much higher than those obtained by the Wishart supervised classification with values of 73.87% and 0.68, as well as those of the commonly applied SVM classification of 83.61% and 0.80. Accuracy of different salinized soil mapping was also enhanced with the proposed methodology. The results showed that the proposed method outperformed the Wishart and SVM classification, and demonstrated the advantages offered by the WFS-SVM classification and potentials of PolSAR data in the monitoring soil salinization. Tea oil camellia ( Camellia oleifera ), an important woody oil tree, is a source of seed oil of high nutritional and medicinal value that is widely planted in southern China. However, there is no report on the identification of the miRNAs involved in lipid metabolism and seed development in the high- and low-oil cultivars of tea oil camellia. Thus, we explored the roles of miRNAs in the key periods of oil formation and accumulation in the seeds of tea oil camellia and identified miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules involved in lipid metabolism and seed development. Sixteen small RNA libraries for four development stages of seed oil biosynthesis in high- and low-oil cultivars were constructed. A total of 196 miRNAs, including 156 known miRNAs from 35 families, and 40 novel miRNAs were identified, and 55 significantly differentially expressed miRNAs were found, which included 34 upregulated miRNAs, and 21 downregulated miRNAs. An integrated analysis of the miRNA and mRNA transcriptome sequence data revealed that 10 miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules were related to lipid metabolism; for example, the regulatory modules of ath-miR858b- MYB82/MYB3/MYB44 repressed seed oil biosynthesis, and a regulation module of csi-miR166e-5p- S-ACP - DES6 was involved in the formation and accumulation of oleic acid. A total of 23 miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules were involved in the regulation of the seed size, such as the regulatory module of hpe-miR162a&#95;L-2- ARF19 , involved in early seed development. A total of 12 miRNA-mRNA regulatory modules regulating growth and development were identified, such as the regulatory modules of han-miR156a&#95;L+1- SPL4/SBP2 , promoting early seed development. The expression changes of six miRNAs and their target genes were validated using quantitative real-time PCR, and the targeting relationship of the cpa-miR393&#95;R-1- AFB2 regulatory module was verified by luciferase assays. These data provide important theoretical values and a scientific basis for the genetic improvement of new cultivars of tea oil camellia in the future.

Due to its excellent comprehensive performances, Al-Si-Mg alloy i widely used in automotive, transportation and other fields. In this work, tensile performances and fracture behavior of Al-Si-Mg alloy modified by dilute Sc and Sr elements (Al-7.12Si-0.36Mg-0.2Sc-0.005Sr) were investigated at the temperature of -60-200 °C for the first time, aiming to obtain a satisfactory thermal stability within a certain temperature range. The results showed that the new designed Al-Si-Mg alloy possessed a completely stable yield strength and a higher-level elongation under the present conditions. Fracture morphology analysis, fracture profile observation and strengthening mechanism analysis were applied to elucidate the evolution mechanisms of yield strength and elongation of the alloy. The fracture modes were significantly distinct in different temperature sections, and the reasons were discussed. In addition, the interaction among the nano precipitate phase particles, the deformation substructure and the dislocations were responsible for the thermal stability of the alloy within a certain temperature range.

A three-dimensional (3D) composite scaffold was prepared for enhanced cartilage tissue engineering, which was composed of a poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) backbone network and a poly(lactide- co -glycolide)- block -poly(ethylene glycol)- block -poly(lactide- co -glycolide) (PLGA⁻PEG⁻PLGA) thermogel surface. The composite scaffold not only possessed adequate mechanical strength similar to native osteochondral tissue as a benefit of the PCL backbone, but also maintained cell-friendly microenvironment of the hydrogel. The PCL network with homogeneously-controlled pore size and total pore interconnectivity was fabricated by fused deposition modeling (FDM), and was impregnated into the PLGA⁻PEG⁻PLGA solution at low temperature (e.g., 4 °C). The PCL/Gel composite scaffold was obtained after gelation induced by incubation at body temperature ( i.e. , 37 °C). The composite scaffold showed a greater number of cell retention and proliferation in comparison to the PCL platform. In addition, the composite scaffold promoted the encapsulated mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) to differentiate chondrogenically with a greater amount of cartilage-specific matrix production compared to the PCL scaffold or thermogel. Therefore, the 3D PCL/Gel composite scaffold may exhibit great potential for in vivo cartilage regeneration.
