Single-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been a research focus in recent years owing to its extensive potential applications. However, how to model the mechanical properties of MoS2 is an open question. In this study, we investigate the nonlinear static bending and forced vibrations of MoS2, subjected to boundary axial and thermal stresses using modified plate theory with independent in-plane and out-of-plane stiffnesses. First, two nonlinear ordinary differential equations are obtained using the Galerkin method to represent the nonlinear vibrations of the first two symmetrical modes. Second, we analyze nonlinear static bending by neglecting the inertial and damping terms of the two equations. Finally, we explore nonlinear forced vibrations using the method of multiple scales for the first- and third-order modes, and their 1:3 internal resonance. The main results are as follows: (1) The thermal stress and the axial compressive stress reduce the MoS2 stiffness significantly. (2) The bifurcation points of the load at the low-frequency primary resonance are much smaller than those at high frequency under single-mode vibrations. A 36-year-old woman, gravida 3, para 1 (previous cesarean section), with one medical abortion, and no history of systemic diseases presented an unremarkable medical history during prenatal visits. The final prenatal ultrasound at 38 weeks of gestation showed a vertex presentation, a weight of 2600 g, a normal amniotic fluid level, and the placenta located on the posterior wall of the uterus. Fetal cardiotocography conducted before delivery reported a reactive heart rate without decelerations. The Doppler wave analysis of the fetal umbilical artery was normal (the ratio of peak-systolic flow velocity to the end-diastolic flow velocity was 2.5) without the absence or reversal of end-diastolic velocity. The total score of the fetal biophysical profile by ultrasound was 8. The night before the scheduled cesarean section, she experienced heightened anxiety and was unable to sleep, noting "crazy" fetal movements throughout the night. During the cesarean section, it was discovered that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the newborn's legs, resembling ankle shackles. The fetal weight was 2740 g, and Apgar scores were 9 at the first minute and 10 at the fifth minute. The motility of the neonatal legs was normal without cyanosis or neurological adverse outcomes. Salicylic acid plays a crucial role during plant defense to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. Some bacteria and a few fungi can produce salicylate hydroxylase to degrade SA to suppress plant defense and increase their virulence. But there has been no single salicylate hydroxylase in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum identified until now. In this study, we found that SS1G_02963 (SsShy1), among several predicted salicylate hydroxylases in S. sclerotiorum, was induced approximately 17.6-fold during infection, suggesting its potential role in virulence. SsShy1 could catalyze the conversion of SA to catechol when heterologous expression in E. coli. Moreover, overexpression of SsShy1 in Arabidopsis thaliana decreased the SA concentration and the resistance to S. sclerotiorum, confirming that SsShy1 is a salicylate hydroxylase. Deletion mutants of SsShy1 (∆Ssshy1) showed slower growth, less sclerotia production, more sensitivity to exogenous SA, and lower virulence to Brassica napus. The complemented strain with a functional SsShy1 gene recovered the wild-type phenotype. These results indicate that SsShy1 plays an important role in growth and sclerotia production of S. sclerotiorum, as well as the ability to metabolize SA affects the virulence of S. sclerotiorum. Although small-scale effect or thermal stress significantly impact the mechanical properties of nanobeams, their combined effects and the temperature dependence of the elastic parameters have yet to attract the attention of researchers. In the present paper, we propose a new nonlocal nonlinear Euler–Bernoulli theory to model the mechanical properties of nanobeams. We considered the small-scale effect, thermal stress, and the temperature dependence of Young's modulus. A single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) was used to demonstrate the influence of the three factors on elastic buckling and forced bending vibrations. The results indicate that thermal stress and the temperature dependence of Young's modulus have a remarkable influence on the mechanical properties of slender SWCNTs as compared to the small-scale effect induced by the nonlocal effect. Feature point matching is a key component in visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM). Recently, the neural network has been employed in the feature point matching to improve matching performance. Among the state-of-the-art feature point matching methods, the SuperGlue is one of the top methods and ranked the first in the CVPR 2020 workshop on image matching. However, this method utilizes graph neural network (GNN), resulting in large computational complexity, which makes it unsuitable for resource-constrained devices, such as robots and mobile phones. In this work, we propose a lightweight feature point matching method based on the SuperGlue (named as AdaSG). Compared to the SuperGlue, the AdaSG adaptively adjusts its operating architecture according to the similarity of input image pair to reduce the computational complexity while achieving high matching performance. The proposed method has been evaluated through the commonly used datasets, including indoor and outdoor environments. Compared with several state-of-the-art feature point matching methods, the proposed method achieves significantly less runtime (up to 43× for indoor and up to 6× for outdoor) with similar or better matching performance. In the present study, electro-explosive spraying technology was used to prepare a multi-layer composite coating with a staggered spatial structure on a 45 steel substrate, and the mechanical properties and wear behavior of the coating were studied. The composite coating was prepared by spraying Mo as the bonding layer, then spraying high-carbon steel and aluminum bronze alternately as a functional coating. The cross-sectional morphology, surface morphology and the properties of the coating were analyzed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and a 3D profilometer. The bonding strength, friction and wear resistance of the coating were studied by the bonding strength experiment and by the friction and wear experiment. The results showed that it is feasible to prepare a composite coating with a sponge-like spatial structure with electro-explosive technology. There was metallurgical bonding as well as mechanical bonding between the adjacent coating layers. Chronic kidney disease is a progressive, incurable condition that involves a gradual loss of kidney function. While there are no non-invasive biomarkers available to determine whether individuals are susceptible to developing chronic kidney disease, small RNAs within urinary exosomes have recently emerged as a potential candidate to use for assessing renal function. Ultracentrifugation is the gold standard for urinary exosome isolation. However, extravesicular small RNA contamination can occur when isolating exosomes from biological fluids using ultracentrifugation, which may lead to misidentifying the presence of certain small RNA species in human urinary exosomes. Therefore, we characterized human urinary exosomal preparations isolated by ultracentrifugation alone, or via ultracentrifugation followed by size exclusion chromatography (SEC) column-purification. Using nanoparticle tracking analysis, we identified SEC fractions containing robust amounts of exosome-sized particles, that we further characterized using immunoblotting. When compared to exosomal preparations isolated by ultracentrifugation only, SEC fractionated exosomal preparations showed higher levels of the exosome-positive marker CD81. Moreover, while the exosome-negative marker calnexin was undetectable in SEC fractionated exosomal preparations, we did observe calnexin detection in the exosomal preparations isolated by ultracentrifugation alone, which implies contamination in these preparations. Lastly, we imaged SEC fractionated exosomal preparations using transmission electron microscopy to confirm these preparations contained human urinary exosomes. Our results indicate that combining ultracentrifugation and SEC column-purification exosome isolation strategies is a powerful approach for collecting contaminant-free human urinary exosomes and should be considered when exosomes devoid of contamination are needed for downstream applications. The objective of this study is to develop a remediation technology for composited heavy metal-contaminated soil. Biochars (BC300, BC400, and BC500) derived from corn were combined with potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) to immobilize and remove heavy metal ions, including mercury (Hg2+), cadmium (Cd2+), and lead (Pb2+). The adsorption kinetics of metal ions in aqueous solutions with different concentrations was tested, and the fitting effects of the two models were compared. The findings demonstrate that the joint application of biochar and KH2PO4 could markedly enhance the immobilization efficacy of Pb2+, whereas the utilization of KH2PO4 on its own exhibited a more pronounced immobilization impact on Cd2+. Furthermore, the present study underscores the shortcomings of various remediation techniques that must be taken into account when addressing heavy metal-contaminated soils. It also emphasizes the value of comprehensive remediation techniques that integrate multiple remediation agents. This study offers a novel approach and methodology for addressing the intricate and evolving challenges posed by heavy metal contamination in soil. Prediction of residual strength and residual life of corrosion pipelines is the key to ensuring pipeline safety. Accurate assessment and prediction make it possible to prevent unnecessary accidents and casualties, and avoid the waste of resources caused by the large-scale replacement of pipelines. However, due to many factors affecting pipeline corrosion, it is difficult to achieve accurate predictions. This paper reviews the research on residual strength and residual life of pipelines in the past decade. Through careful reading, this paper compared several traditional evaluation methods horizontally, extracted 71 intelligent models, discussed the publishing time, the evaluation accuracy of traditional models, and the prediction accuracy of intelligent models, input variables, and output value. This paper's main contributions and findings are as follows: (1) Comparing several traditional evaluation methods, PCORRC and DNV-RP-F101 perform well in evaluating low-strength pipelines, and DNV-RP-F101 has a better performance in evaluating medium–high strength pipelines. (2) In intelligent models, the most frequently used error indicators are mean square error, goodness of fit, mean absolute percentage error, root mean square error, and mean absolute error. Among them, mean absolute percentage error was in the range of 0.0123–0.1499. Goodness of fit was in the range of 0.619–0.999. (3) The size of the data set of different models and the data division ratio was counted. The proportion of the test data set was between 0.015 and 0.4. Through the continuity of the DREIDING force field, we propose, for the first time, the finite-deformation plate theory for the single-layer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) to clarify the atomic source of the structure against deformations. Divergent from the classical Föppl-von Karman plate theory, our new theory shows that h-BN's two in-plane mechanical parameters are independent of two out-of-plane mechanical parameters. The new theory reveals the relationships between the h-BN's elastic rigidities and the atomic force field: (1) two in-plane elastic rigidities come from the bond stretching and the bond angle bending; (2) the bending rigidity comes from the inversion angle and the dihedral angle torsion; (3) the Gaussian rigidity only comes from the dihedral angle torsion. Mechanical parameters obtained by our theory align with atomic calculations. The new theory proves that two four-body terms in the DREIDING force field are necessary to model the h-BN's mechanical properties. Overall, our theory establishes a foundation to apply the classical plate theory on the h-BN, and the approach in this paper is heuristic in modelling the mechanical properties of the other two-dimensional nanostructures. The potential application field of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is immense, due to their remarkable mechanical and electrical properties. However, their mechanical properties under combined physical fields have not attracted researchers' attention. For the first time, the present paper proposes beam theory to model SWCNTs' mechanical properties under combined temperature and electrostatic fields. Unlike the classical Bernoulli–Euler beam model, this new model has independent extensional stiffness and bending stiffness. Static bending, buckling, and nonlinear vibrations are investigated through the classical beam model and the new model. The results show that the classical beam model significantly underestimates the influence of temperature and electrostatic fields on the mechanical properties of SWCNTs because the model overestimates the bending stiffness. Acute lung injury (ALI) is characterized by severe hypoxemia and has significantly high mortality rates. Acute hyperglycemia occurs in patients with conditions such as sepsis or trauma, among others, and it results in aggravated inflammation and induces damage in patients with ALI. Regulation of alveolar fluid is essential for the development and resolution of pulmonary edema in lung injury. Pulmonary sodium-potassium-chloride co-transporter 1 (NKCC1) regulates the net influx of ions and water into alveolar cells. The activation of with-no-lysine kinase 4 (WNK4), STE20/SPS1-related proline/alanine rich kinase (SPAK) and the NKCC1 pathway lead to an increase in the expression of NKCC1 and aggravation of ALI. Moreover, hyperglycemia is known to induce NKCC1 expression via the activation of the serum-glucocorticoid kinase 1 (SGK1)–NKCC1 pathway. We aim to evaluate the influence of acute hyperglycemia on the SGK1–NKCC1 pathway in ALI. ALI was induced using a high tidal volume for four hours in a rat model. Acute hyperglycemia was induced by injection with 0.5 mL of 40% glucose solution followed by continuous infusion at 2 mL/h. The animals were divided into sham, sham+ hyperglycemia, ALI, ALI + hyperglycemia, ALI + inhaled bumetanide (NKCC1 inhibitor) pretreatment, ALI + hyperglycemia + inhalational bumetanide pretreatment, and ALI + hyperglycemia + post-ALI inhalational bumetanide groups. Severe lung injury along with pulmonary edema, alveolar protein leakage, and lung inflammation was observed in ALI with hyperglycemia than in ALI without hyperglycemia. This was concurrent with the higher expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, infiltration of neutrophils and alveolar macrophages (AM) 1, and NKCC1 expression. Inhalational NKCC1 inhibitor significantly inhibited the SGK1–NKCC1, and WNK4–SPAK–NKCC1 pathways. Additionally, it reduced pulmonary edema, inflammation, levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, neutrophils and AM1 and increased AM2. Therefore, acute hyperglycemia aggravates lung injury via the further activation of the SGK1–NKCC1 pathway. Objectives: The purpose of this article is to investigate the estimated blood loss in pregnant women undergoing cesarean section and placental extirpation to treat abnormal placentation and compare the outcomes of those who underwent prophylactic transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) with those who did not. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 17 pregnant women diagnosed with abnormal placentation in 2001–2018 in a single tertiary center. The patients were diagnosed by surgical finding, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These patients were divided into two groups: a prophylactic TAE group (11 patients) and a control group (6 patients). In the former group, prophylactic TAE of the bilateral uterine artery (UA) and/or internal iliac artery (IIA) was performed immediately after delivery of the infant. The placenta was removed in both groups. The primary outcomes were estimated blood loss (EBL), units of packed red blood cell (pRBC) transfusion, operative time, whether hysterectomy was performed, whether the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU), and hospitalization days. The secondary outcome was maternal complications. Results: Patients who received prophylactic TAE had significantly reduced intraoperative blood loss (990.9 ± 701.7 mL vs. 3448.3 ± 1767.4 mL, p = 0.018). Units of pRBC transfusion, operative time, hysterectomy, transfer to the ICU, and postoperative hospitalization days were not significantly different between the two groups. Thirteen patients (9 in the TAE group and 4 in the control group) received a blood transfusion during the operation. Three patients underwent a hysterectomy (1 in the TAE group and 2 in the control group). Five patients were transferred to the ICU (3 in the TAE group and 2 in the control group) for maternal complications or monitoring. In the prophylactic TAE group, 3 patients (27%) had a subsequent pregnancy within the next 5 years. Conclusions: Prophylactic TAE was safe and effective for reducing intraoperative hemorrhage from removing an invasive placenta in patients with abnormal placentation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hyper-crosslinked porous organic nanomaterials, especially the hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCPs), are a unique class of materials that combine the benefits of high surface area, porous structure, and good chemical and thermal stability all rolled into one. A wide range of synthetic methods offer an enormous variety of HCPs with different pore structures and morphologies, which has allowed HCPs to be developed for gas adsorption and separations, chemical adsorption and encapsulation, and heterogeneous catalysis. Here, we present a systematic review of recent approaches to pore size modulation and morphological tailoring of HCPs and their applications to catalysis. We mainly compare the effects of pore size modulation and morphological tailoring on catalytic applications, aiming to pave the way for researchers to develop HCPs with an optimal performance for modern applications. Simple Summary: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is a common somatic discomfort in gynecological cancer patients; however, it is usually overlooked by physicians. We aimed to explore the prevalence of CRF's and the clinical characteristics of gynecological cancer patients. The results showed that 77.9% of patients had received related CRF management. A five-item predictive model was developed from the identified risk factors contributing to CRF. The risk factors included (1) diagnosis of endometrial/cervical cancer, (2) International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage >1, (3) Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) status score ≥1, (4) inadequate treatment response, and (5) having received cancer treatment in the past 1 week. The predictive model may help physicians more promptly identify high-risk patients in clinical practice. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most common somatic discomfort in patients with gynecological cancers. CRF is often overlooked; however, it can impair the patients' quality of life considerably. This cross-sectional study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of CRF in gynecological cancer patients. Questionnaires and the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision (ICD-10) criteria were used to identify CRF. The enrolled patients were further categorized according to the amount of fatigue-related management received. Of the enrolled 190 patients, 40.0% had endometrial cancer, 28.9% had cervical cancer, and 31.1% had ovarian cancer. On the basis of the ICD-10 diagnostic criteria, 42.6% had non-cancer-related fatigue, 10% had CRF, and 51% had BFI-T questionnaire-based fatigue. Moreover, 77.9% of the study cohort had ever received fatigue-related management. Further analysis showed that patients with endometrial/cervical cancer, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage >1, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score ≥1, inadequate cancer treatment response, and receiving cancer treatment in the past week had a higher probability of receiving more fatigue-related management. The five-item predictive model developed from these factors may help physicians recognize patients seeking more fatigue-related management more efficiently. Background: Nail involvement has a tremendous impact on psoriasis patients. Early detection and prompt intervention of psoriatic nail damage are necessary. Methods: A total of 4290 patients confirmed to have psoriasis between June 2020 and September 2021 were recruited from the Follow-up Study of Psoriasis database. Among them, 3920 patients were selected and divided into the nail involvement group (n = 929) and the non-nail involvement group (n = 2991) by inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the predictors of nail involvement for the nomogram. Calibration plots, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the discriminative and calibrating ability and clinical utility of the nomogram. Results: Sex, age at onset, duration, smoking, drug allergy history, comorbidity, sub-type of psoriasis, scalp involvement, palmoplantar involvement, genital involvement, and PASI score were selected to establish the nomogram for nail involvement. AUROC (0.745; 95% CI: 0.725–0.765) indicated the satisfactory discriminative ability of the nomogram. The calibration curve showed favorable consistency, and the DCA showed the good clinical utility of the nomogram. (1) Background: The microstructural alterations of the peripapillary choriocapillaris in high myopes remain elusive. Here, we used optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to explore factors involved in these alterations. (2) Methods: This cross-sectional control study included 205 young adults' eyes (95 with high myopia and 110 with mild to moderate myopia). The choroidal vascular network was imaged using OCTA, and the images underwent manual adjustments to determine the peripapillary atrophy (PPA)-β zone and microvascular dropout (MvD). The area of MvD and the PPA-β zone, spherical equivalent (SE), and axial length (AL) were collected and compared across groups. (3) Results: The MvD was identified in 195 eyes (95.1%). Highly myopic eyes exhibited a significantly greater area for the PPA-β zone (1.221 ± 0.073 vs. 0.562 ± 0.383 mm2, p = 0.001) and MvD (0.248 ± 0.191 vs. 0.089 ± 0.082 mm2, p < 0.001) compared with mildly to moderately myopic eyes, and a lower average density in the choriocapillaris. Linear regression analysis showed that the MvD area correlated with age, SE, AL, and the PPA-β area (all p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: This study found that MvDs represent choroidal microvascular alterations in young-adult high myopes, which were correlated with age, SE, AL, and the PPA-β zone. We propose and implement a terahertz time-of-flight ranging system based on adaptive clock asynchronous optical sampling, where the timing jitter is corrected in real time to recover the depth information in the acquired interferograms after compensating for laser instabilities using electronic signal processing. Consequently, the involved measurement uncertainties caused by the timing jitter during the terahertz sampling process and the noise intensity of the terahertz electric field have been reduced by the utilization of the adaptive clock. The achieved uncertainty range is about 2.5 μm at a 5 cm distance after averaging the acquisition time of 1876 ms 5000 times, showing a significant improvement compared with the asynchronous optical sampling using a constant clock. The implemented terahertz ranging system only uses free-running mode-locked lasers without any phase-locked electronics, and this favors simple and robust operations for subsequent applications that extend beyond the laboratory conditions. Cell death is a fundamental pathophysiological process in human disease. The discovery of necroptosis, a form of regulated necrosis that is induced by the activation of death receptors and formation of necrosome, represents a major breakthrough in the field of cell death in the past decade. Z-DNA-binding protein (ZBP1) is an interferon (IFN)-inducing protein, initially reported as a double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) sensor, which induces an innate inflammatory response. Recently, ZBP1 was identified as an important sensor of necroptosis during virus infection. It connects viral nucleic acid and receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) via two domains and induces the formation of a necrosome. Recent studies have also reported that ZBP1 induces necroptosis in non-viral infections and mediates necrotic signal transduction by a unique mechanism. This review highlights the discovery of ZBP1 and its novel findings in necroptosis and provides an insight into its critical role in the crosstalk between different types of cell death, which may represent a new therapeutic option. Simple Summary: Tissues consist of various cell types in complex spatial arrangements. These tissues require signaling between the cells and structural proteins to maintain their organization. Spatial arrangements or the organization of cells in tissue can be readily studied via imaging analysis of dissected tissue. In cancer tissues, there is, additionally, signaling between immune cells and between immune and cancer cells. The signaling molecules as well as the structural molecules can be readily measured using molecular profiling technology. Until now, there have not been ways to have both high-resolution imaging and high-resolution molecular profiling for the same locations in tissue. Now that the technology exists to measure both molecular profile and corresponding image, we can study the relationship between molecules in the tissue and the resultant tissue architecture in order to determine functional relationships between the two in cancer. We find that image features correspond well with extracellular matrix and other mechanisms that are important in tumor structure and aggressiveness. Background: Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide with breast and prostate cancer the most common among women and men, respectively. Gene expression and image features are independently prognostic of patient survival; but until the advent of spatial transcriptomics (ST), it was not possible to determine how gene expression of cells was tied to their spatial relationships (i.e., topology). Methods: We identify topology-associated genes (TAGs) that correlate with 700 image topological features (ITFs) in breast and prostate cancer ST samples. Genes and image topological features are independently clustered and correlated with each other. Themes among genes correlated with ITFs are investigated by functional enrichment analysis. Results: Overall, topology-associated genes (TAG) corresponding to extracellular matrix (ECM) and Collagen Type I Trimer gene ontology terms are common to both prostate and breast cancer. In breast cancer specifically, we identify the ZAG-PIP Complex as a TAG. In prostate cancer, we identify distinct TAGs that are enriched for GI dysmotility and the IgA immunoglobulin complex. We identified TAGs in every ST slide regardless of cancer type. Conclusions: These TAGs are enriched for ontology terms, illustrating the biological relevance to our image topology features and their potential utility in diagnostic and prognostic models. The early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is key to reducing the burden of disease and rising costs of care. This need has spurred interest in finding new biomarkers for CKD. Ideal bi-omarkers for CKD should be: easy to measure; stable; reliably detected, even when interfering substances are present; site-specific based on the type of injury (tubules vs. glomeruli); and its changes in concentration should correlate with disease risk or outcome. Currently, no single can-didate biomarker fulfills these criteria effectively, and the mechanisms underlying kidney fibrosis are not fully understood; however, there is growing evidence in support of microRNA-mediated pro-cesses. Specifically, urinary exosomal microRNAs may serve as biomarkers for kidney fibrosis. In-creasing incidences of obesity and the recognition of obesity-associated CKD have increased interest in the interplay of obesity and CKD. In this review, we provide: (1) an overview of the current scope of CKD biomarkers within obese individuals to elucidate the genetic pathways unique to obesi-ty-related CKD; (2) a review of microRNA expression in obese individuals with kidney fibrosis in the presence of comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension; (3) a review of thera-peutic processes, such as diet and exercise, that may influence miR-expression in obesity-associated CKD; (4) a review of the technical aspects of urinary exosome isolation; and (5) future areas of research. We present a new solution to tracking and mapping with an event camera. The motion of the camera contains both rotation and translation displacements in the plane, and the displacements happen in an arbitrarily structured environment. As a result, the image matching may no longer be represented by a low-dimensional homographic warping, thus complicating an application of the commonly used Image of Warped Events (IWE). We introduce a new solution to this problem by performing contrast maximization in 3D. The 3D location of the rays cast for each event is smoothly varied as a function of a continuous-time motion parametrization, and the optimal parameters are found by maximizing the contrast in a volumetric ray density field. Our method thus performs joint optimization over motion and structure. The practical validity of our approach is supported by an application to AGV motion estimation and 3D reconstruction with a single vehicle-mounted event camera. Spatiotemporal fusion in remote sensing plays an important role in Earth science applications by using information complementarity between different remote sensing data to improve image performance. However, several problems still exist, such as edge contour blurring and uneven pixels between the predicted image and the real ground image, in the extraction of salient features by convolutional neural networks (CNNs). We propose a spatiotemporal fusion method with edge-guided feature attention based on remote sensing, called STF-EGFA. First, an edge extraction module is used to maintain edge details, which effectively solves the boundary blurring problem. Second, a feature fusion attention module is used to make adaptive adjustments to the extracted features. Among them, the spatial attention mechanism is used to solve the problem of weight variation in different channels of the network. Additionally, the problem of uneven pixel distribution is addressed with a pixel attention (PA) mechanism to highlight the salient features. We transmit the different features extracted by the edge module and the encoder to the feature attention (FA) module at the same time after the union. Furthermore, the weights of edges, pixels, channels and other features are adaptively learned. Finally, three remote sensing spatiotemporal fusion datasets, Ar Horqin Banner (AHB), Daxing and Tianjin, are used to verify the method. Experiments proved that the proposed method outperformed three typical comparison methods in terms of the overall visual effect and five objective evaluation indexes: spectral angle mapper (SAM), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), spatial correlation coefficient (SCC), structural similarity (SSIM) and root mean square error (RMSE). Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) accounts for 7% of maternal mortality and is associated with intraoperative and postoperative morbidity caused by massive blood loss, infection, and adjacent organ damage. The aims of this study were to identify the protein biomarkers of PAS and to further explore their pathogenetic roles in PAS. For this purpose, we collected five placentas from pregnant subjects with PAS complications and another five placentas from normal pregnancy (NP) cases. Then, we enriched protein samples by specifically isolating the trophoblast villous, deeply invading into the uterine muscle layer in the PAS patients. Next, fluorescence-based two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) and MALDI-TOF/MS were used to identify the proteins differentially abundant between PAS and NP placenta tissues. As a result, nineteen spots were determined as differentially abundant proteins, ten and nine of which were more abundant in PAS and NP placenta tissues, respectively. Then, specific validation with western blot assay and immunohisto/cytochemistry (IHC) assay confirmed that heat shock 70 kDa protein 4 (HSPA4) and chorionic somatomammotropin hormone (CSH) were PAS protein biomarkers. Further tube formation assays demonstrated that HSPA4 promoted the in vitro angiogenesis ability of vessel endothelial cells, which is consistent with the in vivo scenario of PAS complications. In this study, we not only identified PAS protein biomarkers but also connected the promoted angiogenesis with placenta invasion, investigating the pathogenetic mechanism of PAS. LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) vaporizing stations are usually built in the cities and towns, and the BOG (Boiled Off Gas) pressurizing system is a very important element. In the pressurizing system, the severe vibration of the low-temperature reciprocating compressor may lead to a failure of the pipeline system and the equipment. Therefore, this paper analyzes the stress and pressure pulsation of the BOG compressor piping system in the LNG vaporizing station. The beam model was used to establish the pipe model. The static, harmonic and modal analysis were carried out based on the plane-wave theory and the pressure-fluctuation theory, and the influence factors of support spacing, the settlement of the fulcrum foundation, pipe pressure and elbow angle were analyzed. The main conclusions are as follows: (1) the unbalanced excited force caused by pressure pulsation greatly affects the stress of the exhaust pipe and compressor outlet pipe, and has less influence on the stress of the suction pipe and compressor inlet pipe; (2) although unbalanced excited force is generated in the elbow, it also has an impact on the straight pipe stress; (3) adding an expansion joint to the pipe of the BOG compressor can effectively reduce the stress of the pipe its the displacement, and can increase the flexibility of the pipe. Intraregional spatial variations of satellite-derived anthropogenic nighttime light signals are gradually applied to identify different lighting areas with various socioeconomic activity and urbanization levels when characterizing urbanization dynamics. However, most previous partitioning approaches are carried out at local scales, easily leading to multi-standards of the extracted results from local areas, and this inevitably hinders the comparative analysis on the urbanization dynamics of the large region. Therefore, a partitioning approach considering the characteristics of nighttime light signals at both local and regional scales is necessary for studying spatiotemporal characteristics of urbanization dynamics across the large region using nighttime light imagery. Based on the quadratic relationships between the pixel-level nighttime light brightness and the corresponding spatial gradient for individual cities, we here proposed an improved partitioning approach to quickly identify different types of nighttime lighting areas for the entire region of Southeast Asia. Using the calibrated Defense Meteorological Satellite Program/Operational Line-scan System (DMSP/OLS) data with greater comparability, continuity, and intra-urban variability, the annual nighttime light imagery spanning years 1992–2013 were divided into four types of nighttime lighting areas: low, medium, high, and extremely high, associated with different intensity of anthropogenic activity. The results suggest that Southeast Asia has experienced a rapid and diverse urbanization process from 1992 to 2013. Areas with moderate or low anthropogenic activity show a faster growth rate for the spatial expansion than the developed areas with intense anthropogenic activity. Transitions between different nighttime lighting types potentially depict the trajectory of urban development, the darker areas are gradually transitioning to areas with higher lighting, indicating conspicuous trends of gradually intensified anthropogenic activity from central areas to periphery areas, and from megacities to small cities. Additionally, satellite-derived nighttime lighting areas are in good agreement with the radar-derived human settlements, with dense human settlements in extremely high and high nighttime lighting areas, while sparse human settlements in low nighttime lighting areas. Simple Summary: The histopathological image is widely considered as the gold standard for the diagnosis and prognosis of human cancers. Recently, deep learning technology has been extremely successful in the field of computer vision, which has also boosted considerable interest in digital pathology analysis. The aim of our paper is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date review of the deep learning methods for digital H&E-stained pathology image analysis, including color normalization, nuclei/tissue segmentation, and cancer diagnosis and prognosis. The experimental results of the existing studies demonstrated that deep learning is a promising tool to assist clinicians in the clinical management of human cancers. With the remarkable success of digital histopathology, we have witnessed a rapid expansion of the use of computational methods for the analysis of digital pathology and biopsy image patches. However, the unprecedented scale and heterogeneous patterns of histopathological images have presented critical computational bottlenecks requiring new computational histopathology tools. Recently, deep learning technology has been extremely successful in the field of computer vision, which has also boosted considerable interest in digital pathology applications. Deep learning and its extensions have opened several avenues to tackle many challenging histopathological image analysis problems including color normalization, image segmentation, and the diagnosis/prognosis of human cancers. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive up-to-date review of the deep learning methods for digital H&E-stained pathology image analysis. Specifically, we first describe recent literature that uses deep learning for color normalization, which is one essential research direction for H&E-stained histopathological image analysis. Followed by the discussion of color normalization, we review applications of the deep learning method for various H&E-stained image analysis tasks such as nuclei and tissue segmentation. We also summarize several key clinical studies that use deep learning for the diagnosis and prognosis of human cancers from H&E-stained histopathological images. Finally, online resources and open research problems on pathological image analysis are also provided in this review for the convenience of researchers who are interested in this exciting field. Influenza A viruses are serious zoonotic pathogens that continuously cause pandemics in several animal hosts, including birds, pigs, and humans. Indole derivatives containing an indole core framework have been extensively studied and developed to prevent and/or treat viral infection. This study evaluated the anti-influenza activity of several indole derivatives, including 3-indoleacetonitrile, indole-3-carboxaldehyde, 3-carboxyindole, and gramine, in A549 and MDCK cells. Among these compounds, 3-indoleacetonitrile exerts profound antiviral activity against a broad spectrum of influenza A viruses, as tested in A549 cells. Importantly, in a mouse model, 3-indoleacetonitrile with a non-toxic concentration of 20 mg/kg effectively reduced the mortality and weight loss, diminished lung virus titers, and alleviated lung lesions of mice lethally challenged with A/duck/Hubei/WH18/2015 H5N6 and A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 H1N1 influenza A viruses. Various animal studies have shown beneficial effects of hypercapnia in lung injury. However, in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), there is controversial information regarding the effect of hypercapnia on outcomes. The duration of carbon dioxide inhalation may be the key to the protective effect of hypercapnia. We investigated the effect of pre-treatment with inhaled carbon dioxide on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung injury in mice. C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a control group or an LPS group. Each LPS group received intratracheal LPS (2 mg/kg); the LPS groups were exposed to hypercapnia (5% carbon dioxide) for 10 min or 60 min before LPS. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and lung tissues were collected to evaluate the degree of lung injury. LPS significantly increased the ratio of lung weight to body weight; concentrations of BALF protein, tumor necrosis factor-α, and CXCL2; protein carbonyls; neutrophil infiltration; and lung injury score. LPS induced the degradation of the inhibitor of nuclear factor-κB-α (IκB-α) and nuclear translocation of NF-κB. LPS increased the surface protein expression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). Pre-treatment with inhaled carbon dioxide for 10 min, but not for 60 min, inhibited LPS-induced pulmonary edema, inflammation, oxidative stress, lung injury, and TLR4 surface expression, and, accordingly, reduced NF-κB signaling. In summary, our data demonstrated that pre-treatment with 10-min carbon dioxide inhalation can ameliorate LPS-induced lung injury. Adaptive support ventilation (ASV) is a closed-loop ventilation, which can make automatic adjustments in tidal volume (VT) and respiratory rate based on the minimal work of breathing. The purpose of this research was to study whether ASV can provide a protective ventilation pattern to decrease the risk of ventilator-induced lung injury in patients of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). In the clinical study, 15 ARDS patients were randomly allocated to an ASV group or a pressure-control ventilation (PCV) group. There was no significant difference in the mortality rate and respiratory parameters between these two groups, suggesting the feasible use of ASV in ARDS. In animal experiments of 18 piglets, the ASV group had a lower alveolar strain compared with the volume-control ventilation (VCV) group. The ASV group exhibited less lung injury and greater alveolar fluid clearance compared with the VCV group. Tissue analysis showed lower expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 and higher expression of claudin-4 and occludin in the ASV group than in the VCV group. In conclusion, the ASV mode is capable of providing ventilation pattern fitting into the lung-protecting strategy; this study suggests that ASV mode may effectively reduce the risk or severity of ventilator-associated lung injury in animal models. Rhabdomyosarcoma is subclassified by the presence or absence of a recurrent chromosome translocation that fuses the FOXO1 and PAX3 or PAX7 genes. The fusion protein (FOXO1-PAX3/7) retains both binding domains and becomes a novel and potent transcriptional regulator in rhabdomyosarcoma subtypes. Many studies have characterized and integrated genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic differences among rhabdomyosarcoma subtypes that contain the FOXO1-PAX3/7 gene fusion and those that do not; however, few investigations have investigated how gene co-expression networks are altered by FOXO1-PAX3/7. Although transcriptional data offer insight into one level of functional regulation, gene co-expression networks have the potential to identify biological interactions and pathways that underpin oncogenesis and tumorigenicity. Thus, we examined gene co-expression networks for rhabdomyosarcoma that were FOXO1-PAX3 positive, FOXO1-PAX7 positive, or fusion negative. Gene co-expression networks were mined using local maximum Quasi-Clique Merger (lmQCM) and analyzed for co-expression differences among rhabdomyosarcoma subtypes. This analysis observed 41 co-expression modules that were shared between fusion negative and positive samples, of which 17/41 showed significant up- or down-regulation in respect to fusion status. Fusion positive and negative rhabdomyosarcoma showed differing modularity of co-expression networks with fusion negative (n = 109) having significantly more individual modules than fusion positive (n = 53). Subsequent analysis of gene co-expression networks for PAX3 and PAX7 type fusions observed 17/53 were differentially expressed between the two subtypes. Gene list enrichment analysis found that gene ontology terms were poorly matched with biological processes and molecular function for most co-expression modules identified in this study; however, co-expressed modules were frequently localized to cytobands on chromosomes 8 and 11. Overall, we observed substantial restructuring of co-expression networks relative to fusion status and fusion type in rhabdomyosarcoma and identified previously overlooked genes and pathways that may be targeted in this pernicious disease. Sialic acids are a family of acidic monosaccharides often found on the termini of cell surface proteins or lipid glycoconjugates of higher animals. Herein we describe the enzymatic synthesis of the two isotopically labeled sialic acid derivatives d3-X-Gal-α-2,3-Neu5Ac and d3-X-Gal-α-2,3-Neu5Gc. Using deuterium oxide as the reaction solvent, deuterium atoms could be successfully introduced during the enzymatic epimerization and aldol addition reactions when the sialosides were generated. NMR and mass spectrometric analyses confirmed that the resulting sialosides were indeed tri-deuterated. These compounds may be of interest as internal standards in liquid chromatography/mass spectrometric assays for biochemical or clinical studies of sialic acids. Pulmonary fibrosis is a fatal respiratory disease that gradually leads to dyspnea, mainly accompanied by excessive collagen production in the fibroblast and myofibroblast through mechanisms such as abnormal alveolar epithelial cells remodeling and stimulation of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Our results show that a small molecule, butylidenephthalide (BP), reduces type I collagen (COL1) expression in Transforming Growth Factor beta (TGF-β)-induced lung fibroblast without altering downstream pathways of TGF-β, such as Smad phosphorylation. Treatment of BP also reduces the expression of transcription factor Sex Determining Region Y-box 2 (SOX2), and the ectopic expression of SOX2 overcomes the inhibitory actions of BP on COL1 expression. We also found that serial deletion of the SOX2 binding site on 3′COL1 promoter results in a marked reduction in luciferase activity. Moreover, chromatin immunoprecipitation, which was found on the SOX2 binding site of the COL1 promoter, decreases in BP-treated cells. In an in vivo study using a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis C57BL/6 mice model, mice treated with BP displayed reduced lung fibrosis and collagen deposition, recovering in their pulmonary ventilation function. The reduction of SOX2 expression in BP-treated lung tissues is consistent with our findings in the fibroblast. This is the first report that reveals a non-canonical regulation of COL1 promoter via SOX2 binding, and contributes to the amelioration of pulmonary fibrosis by BP treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Uridine diphosphate galactose (UDP-galactose) is a valuable building block in the enzymatic synthesis of galactose-containing glycoconjugates. UDP-glucose 4-epimerase (UGE) is an enzyme which catalyzes the reversible conversion of abundantly available UDP-glucose to UDP-galactose. Herein, we described the cloning, expression, purification, and biochemical characterization of an unstudied UGE from the oyster Magallana gigas (MgUGE). Activity tests of recombinantly expressed MgUGE, using HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography), mass spectrometry, and photometric assays, showed an optimal temperature of 16 °C, and reasonable thermal stability up to 37 °C. No metal ions were required for enzymatic activity. The simple nickel-affinity-purification procedure makes MgUGE a valuable biocatalyst for the synthesis of UDP-galactose from UDP-glucose. The biosynthetic potential of MgUGE was further exemplified in a coupled enzymatic reaction with an oyster-derived β-1,4-galactosyltransferase (MgGalT7), allowing the galactosylation of the model substrate para-nitrophenol xylose (pNP-xylose) using UDP-glucose as the starting material.
