Progesterone (PROG) and estrone (E1) are typical reproductive hormones in dairy cows. Assessing the levels of these hormones in vivo can aid in estrus identification. In the present work, the feasibility of the qualitative and quantitative detection of PROG and E1 using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) and metamaterial technology was preliminarily investigated. First, the time domain spectra, frequency domain spectra, and absorption coefficients of PROG and E1 samples were collected and analyzed. A vibration analysis was conducted using density functional theory (DFT). Subsequently, a double-ring (DR) metamaterial structure was designed and simulated using the frequency domain solution algorithm in CST Studio Suite (CST) software. This aimed to ensure that the double resonance peaks of DR were similar to the absorption peaks of PROG and E1. Finally, the response of DR to different concentrations of PROG/E1 was analyzed and quantitatively modeled. The results show that a qualitative analysis can be conducted by comparing the corresponding DR resonance peak changes in PROG and E1 samples at various concentrations. The best R2 for the PROG quantitative model was 0.9872, while for E1, it was 0.9828. This indicates that terahertz spectral–metamaterial technology for the qualitative and quantitative detection of the typical reproductive hormones PROG and E1 in dairy cows is feasible and worthy of in-depth exploration. The liver fluke disease caused by Clonorchis sinensis is one of the most serious food-borne parasitic diseases in China. Many freshwater fish and shrimps can be infected with C. sinensis metacercariae as the second intermediate hosts in endemic regions. Owing to the lack of infected humans and the good administration of pet dogs and cats in cities of non-endemic regions, few fish are expected to be infected with C. sinensis metacercariae in urban lakes. To determine the infection of C. sinensis metacercariae in freshwater fish and shrimps in urban lakes, a total of 18 fish species and one shrimp species were investigated in the East Lake of Wuhan City. Metacercariae were isolated by artificial digestive juice and identified using morphology and rDNA-ITS2 sequences. Five species of fish, Pseudorasbora parva, Ctenogobius giurinus, Squalidus argentatus, Hemiculter leuciclus, and Rhodeus spp., were infected with C. sinensis metacercariae. The overall prevalence of C. sinensis was 32.5%. The highest prevalence was found in P. parva with 57.9%, while S. argentatus exhibited the highest mean abundance (13.9). Apart from the C. sinensis metacercariae, four species of other trematode metacercariae were also identified across twelve fish species in total. Owing to the consumption of undercooked fish and feeding cats with small fish caught by anglers, there is a potential risk that the small fish infected with C. sinensis metacercariae may act as an infection source to spread liver fluke. Given the complete life cycle of C. sinensis, stray cats and rats were inferred to act as the important final hosts of C. sinensis in urban lakes in non-endemic areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is extensively used in archaeometric investigation. Herein, we provide a novel XRD spectrum-based untargeted strategy for the classification of ancient painted pottery for various dynasties. It was accomplished using the original spectrum without a phase identification. To eliminate the influence of baseline drift, a new baseline drift correction algorithm was specifically designed for XRD spectra. The algorithm was implemented using local minimum values in the analyzed signal in an iterative optimization manner. The results indicated that with the aid of the algorithm, the baseline drift problem can be successfully resolved, and the classification of ancient painted pottery can be greatly improved. Finally, the developed strategy was successfully used to discriminate ancient painted pottery from the Han and Tang dynasties in the cities of Guyuan and Zhongwei, China. Simple Summary: Despite remarkable progress in treating early-stage gastric cancer (GC), the clinical outcomes for patients with advanced disease remain very poor. Tissue invasion and metastasis constitute the major causes of cancer-related deaths, including GC. This highlights the urgent need to develop animal models that can recapitulate these processes to develop novel therapeutic strategies. We developed a highly reproducible and cost-effective procedure to establish orthotopic GC xenografts showing high engraftment and metastatic rates via the direct implantation of tumor cell suspensions. Compared with the routine method to establish orthotopic xenograft models by engrafting intact tumor fragments, our approach significantly shortens the experimental timeline and allows for the flexible adjustment of the number of tumor cells implanted to control the rate of tumor progression. Both dose- and time-dependent progressions of tumor invasion and metastasis were nicely recapitulated in our model. Our work provides valuable tools for studying GC progression and metastasis and developing effective therapies. Although the implantation of intact tumor fragments is a common practice to generate orthotopic xenografts to study tumor invasion and metastasis, the direct implantation of tumor cell suspensions is necessary when prior manipulations of tumor cells are required. However, the establishment of orthotopic xenografts using tumor cell suspensions is not mature, and a comparative study directly comparing their engraftment and metastatic capabilities is lacking. It is unclear whether tumor fragments are superior to cell suspensions for successful engraftment and metastasis. In this study, we employed three GC cell lines with varying metastatic capacities to stably express firefly luciferase for monitoring tumor progression in real time. We successfully minimized the risk of cell leakage during the orthotopic injection of tumor cell suspensions without Corning Matrigel by systematically optimizing the surgical procedure, injection volume, and needle size options. Comparable high engraftment and metastatic rates between these two methods were demonstrated using MKN-45 cells with a strong metastatic ability. Importantly, our approach can adjust the rate of tumor progression flexibly and cuts the experimental timeline from 10–12 weeks (for tumor fragments) to 4–5 weeks. Collectively, we provided a highly reproducible procedure with a shortened experimental timeline and low cost for establishing orthotopic GC xenografts via the direct implantation of tumor cell suspensions. Seeking novel high-performance elastocaloric materials with low critical stress plays a crucial role in advancing the development of elastocaloric refrigeration technology. Here, as a first attempt, the elastocaloric effect of TiZrNbAl shape memory alloy at both room temperature and finite temperatures ranging from 245 K to 405 K, is studied systematically. Composition optimization shows that Ti-19Zr-14Nb-1Al (at.%), possessing excellent room-temperature superelasticity with a critical stress of around 100 MPa and a small stress hysteresis of around 70 MPa and outstanding fracture resistance with a compressive strain of 20% and stress of 1.7 GPa, demonstrates a substantial advantage as an elastocaloric refrigerant. At room temperature, a large adiabatic temperature change ( Δ T ad ) of −6.7 K is detected, which is comparable to the highest value reported in the Ti-based alloys. A high elastocaloric cyclic stability, with almost no degradation of Δ T ad after 4000 cycles, is observed. Furthermore, the sizeable elastocaloric effect can be steadily expanded from 255 K to 395 K with a temperature window of as large as 140 K. A maximum Δ T ad of −7.9 K appears at 355 K. Agricultural carbon productivity combines the dual attributes of reducing carbon emissions and stabilizing economic growth, and is a core aspect of the new era of low-carbon agricultural development. The construction of high-standard farmland is an important initiative to promote high-yield and high-efficiency agriculture, as well as environmentally sustainable development through land improvement in China. However, the impact of high-standard farmland construction on agricultural carbon productivity and its mechanisms is still in the process of being determined. In order to fill this gap, this study aims to construct a theoretical, analytical framework for the impact of high-standard farmland construction on agricultural carbon productivity. Based on the current situation of high-standard farmland construction and the characteristics of agricultural carbon productivity in China, this study used the panel data of 31 provinces, from 2003 to 2017 in China, to empirically examine the effects, mediating paths, and spatial characteristics of the construction of high-standard farmland on agricultural carbon productivity using a double fixed-effects regression model, a mediating-effects model, and a spatial econometric model. The results show that: (1) High-standard farmland construction has a positive effect on agricultural carbon productivity, with a direct effect coefficient of 0.139 after adding a series of control variables. (2) Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of high-standard farmland construction on agricultural carbon productivity will vary greatly depending on the topographic characteristics of the studied area, the level of economic development, and whether it is a main grain-producing area. (3) Mechanism analysis shows that agricultural scale operation, agricultural planting structure, and agricultural technology progress all have partial mediating roles in the impact of high-standard farmland construction on agricultural carbon productivity, with mediating effect coefficients of 0.025, 0.024, and 0.013, respectively. (4) Agricultural carbon productivity has a spatial correlation, and for every 1% increase in the level of high-standard farmland construction, agricultural carbon productivity increases by 0.117%, with a direct effect of 0.074% and a spatial spillover effect of 0.043%. Our study explains the impact effects, mechanisms, and spatial spillover effects of high-standard farmland construction on agricultural carbon productivity from theoretical and empirical perspectives, thus deepening the literature on the relationship between high-standard farmland construction and agricultural carbon productivity, and providing a theoretical basis and practical references for improving agricultural carbon productivity from the perspective of high-standard farmland construction policy. Population is the main driver of land-system and environmental change. However, population is usually treated as a variable that only considers the population number, and multi-dimensional population structure is largely ignored. There has been a systematic transition of population structure in the past several decades, including changes in household structure, increasing aging populations, increasing divorce rates, and increasing human migration. All of these changes have direct or indirect impacts on land use and environmental issues. Here, taking China as an example and using statistical analysis, namely the Mann–Kendall trend test and a land-use-transition matrix, we examine the relationship between household dynamics and land-use change in China by examining changes in household structure and land-use changes in China between 1980 and 2020. The results show the following three groups of findings. (1) The number of households increased by 130.95% from 1980 to 2020, while the population only increased by 42.83%; the size of households decreased from 4.41 to 2.62 in China from 1982 to 2020; and the household dynamics varied from province to province, which is affected by urbanization rate and economic development. (2) Birth rates, divorce rates, population aging, and migration all affect household structure, which directly or indirectly affect changes in land-use systems. (3) The changes in China's land use are interlinked and interact with changes in household structure, which is evident in the increase in Residential land use and the abandonment of arable land. The rising household number increased the area of urban and rural settlement, leading to the fragmentation of cultivated land and the reduction of ecological land. To regulate land-use change for sustainable development, future land-use planning should take into account the effect of household dynamics and should reduce the negative effects of household dynamics on land systems and environmental change. The gelation of scallop Patinopecten yessoensis male gonad hydrolysates (SMGHs) and κ-carrageenan (KC) subjected to pH (2–8, 3–9) and NaCl/KCl stimuli-response was investigated. SMGHs/KC gels subjected to a NaCl response exhibited an increasing storage modulus G′from 2028.6 to 3418.4 Pa as the pH decreased from pH 8 to 2, with corresponding T23 fluctuating from 966.40 to 365.64 ms. For the KCl-treated group, SMGHs/KC gels showed an even greater G′ from 4646.7 to 10996.5 Pa, with T23 fluctuating from 622.2 to 276.98 ms as the pH decreased from 9 to 3. The improved gel strength could be ascribed to the blueshift and redshift of hydroxyl groups and amide I peaks, enhanced enthalpy and peak temperature, and gathered characteristic diffraction peaks from SMGHs, KC, NaCl, and KCl. The CLSM and cryo-SEM images further reflected that SMGHs/KC gels showed more flocculation formation and denser and more homogeneous networks with smaller pore sizes in more acidic domains, especially when subjected to the KCl response. This research gives a theoretical and methodological understanding of the construction of salt- and pH-responsive SMGHs/KC hydrogels as novel functional soft biomaterials applied in food and biological fields. Multimodal emotion classification (MEC) has been extensively studied in human–computer interaction, healthcare, and other domains. Previous MEC research has utilized identical multimodal annotations (IMAs) to train unimodal models, hindering the learning of effective unimodal representations due to differences between unimodal expressions and multimodal perceptions. Additionally, most MEC fusion techniques fail to consider the unimodal–multimodal inconsistencies. This study addresses two important issues in MEC: learning satisfactory unimodal representations of emotion and accounting for unimodal–multimodal inconsistencies during the fusion process. To tackle these challenges, the authors propose the Two-Stage Conformer-based MEC model (Uni2Mul) with two key innovations: (1) in stage one, unimodal models are trained using independent unimodal annotations (IUAs) to optimize unimodal emotion representations; (2) in stage two, a Conformer-based architecture is employed to fuse the unimodal representations learned in stage one and predict IMAs, accounting for unimodal–multimodal differences. The proposed model is evaluated on the CH-SIMS dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that Uni2Mul outperforms baseline models. This study makes two key contributions: (1) the use of IUAs improves unimodal learning; (2) the two-stage approach addresses unimodal–multimodal inconsistencies during Conformer-based fusion. The dry scroll vacuum pump is a kind of variable capacity dry vacuum pump that is applied in chemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and scientific instruments. Analyzing the thermodynamic characteristics of the scroll vacuum pump and studying the impact of operating temperature on its consistent performance are necessary for the design and application of the cooling system of the scroll vacuum pump. Based on the dynamics mesh method, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation model of a multi-stage dry scroll vacuum pump is established in this study. Under the suction pressure of 1000 Pa, the simulation calculation is carried out at different operating temperatures of fixed scrolls (25 °C, 45 °C, and 65 °C). The results show that the pumping speed, the gas compression power, and the energy efficiency ratio are significantly affected by different temperatures. The operating temperature of the pump has been reduced from 65 °C to 25 °C, the pumping speed is increased by approximately 5.97%, the gas compression power is increased by approximately 4.32%, and the energy efficiency ratio is increased by approximately 1.745%. This research provides a transient simulation method using dynamic mesh technology for the study of the dry scroll vacuum pump, and the results can provide a theoretical basis for the design and application of the cooling system of the dry scroll vacuum pump. The identification of a chicken's sex is a massive task in the poultry industry. To solve the problems of traditional artificial observation in determining sex, such as time-consuming and laborious, a sex identification method of chicken embryos based on blood vessel images and deep learning was preliminarily investigated. In this study, we designed an image acquisition platform to capture clear blood vessel images with a black background. 19,748 images of 3024 Jingfen No. 6 breeding eggs were collected from days 3 to 5 of incubation in Beijing Huadu Yukou Poultry Industry. Sixteen thousand seven hundred sixty-one images were filtered via color sexing in 1-day-old chicks and constructed the dataset of this study. A sex identification model was proposed based on an improved YOLOv7 deep learning algorithm. An attention mechanism CBAM was introduced for YOLOv7 to improve the accuracy of sex identification of chicken eggs; the BiFPN feature fusion was used in the neck network of YOLOv7 to fuse the low-level and high-level features efficiently; and α-CIOU was used as the bounding box loss function to accelerate regression prediction and improve the positioning accuracy of the bounding box of the model. Results showed that the mean average precision (mAP) of 88.79% was achieved by modeling with the blood vessel data on day 4 of incubation of chicken eggs, with the male and female reaching 87.91% and 89.67%. Compared with the original YOLOv7 network, the mAP of the improved model was increased by 3.46%. The comparison of target detection model results showed that the mAP of our method was 32.49%, 17.17%, and 5.96% higher than that of SSD, Faster R-CNN, and YOLOv5, respectively. Exposure to air pollutants of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a major threat to human health. Research on PM2.5 exposure has been on the rise in recent years, but there has been a lack of systematic literature analysis in this field. To address this research gap, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the existing publications on PM2.5 exposure over the past three decades and analyzed the current state and historical trends of research using the open-access tool, KNIME. Our results show that the number of publications on PM2.5 exposure has been increasing at an accelerating rate over the last 30 years. The authors of the publications are primarily from developed nations, such as countries in North America, Europe, East Asia, and Oceania. Published research is mainly from the fields of Environmental Sciences and Ecology, Environmental Sciences, and Public, Environmental and Occupational Health. The main research hotspots are exposure, air pollution, and PM2.5. Research is trending toward the intersection and integration of multiple subjects. Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) are neural network frameworks for machine learning on graphs. They can simultaneously perform end-to-end learning on the attribute information and the structure information of graph data. However, most existing GCNs inevitably encounter the limitations of non-robustness and low classification accuracy when labeled nodes are scarce. To address the two issues, the deep graph convolutional generative adversarial network (DGCGAN), a model combining GCN and deep convolutional generative adversarial networks (DCGAN), is proposed in this paper. First, the graph data is mapped to a highly nonlinear space by using the topology and attribute information of the graph for symmetric normalized Laplacian transform. Then, through the feature-structured enhanced module, the node features are expanded into regular structured data, such as images and sequences, which are input to DGCGAN as positive samples, thus expanding the sample capacity. In addition, the feature-enhanced (FE) module is adopted to enhance the typicality and discriminability of node features, and to obtain richer and more representative features, which is helpful for facilitating accurate classification. Finally, additional constraints are added to the network model by introducing DCGAN, thus enhancing the robustness of the model. Through extensive empirical studies on several standard benchmarks, we find that DGCGAN outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on semi-supervised node classification and remote sensing image classification. The release of flavor compounds is a critical factor that influences the quality of fermented foods. A recent study investigated the interactions between four fermentation-stinky compounds (indole, isovaleric acid, dimethyl disulfide, and dibutyl phthalate) and myofibrillar proteins (MPs). The results indicated that all four fermentation-stinky compounds had different degrees of binding to MPs, with dibutyl phthalate and dimethyl disulfide exhibiting stronger interactions. Reduced hydrophobicity enhanced these interactions. Multi-spectroscopy showed that static fluorescence quenching was dominant in the MPs-fermentation-stinky compound complexes. The interaction altered the secondary structure of MPs, predominantly transitioning from β-sheets to α-helix or random coil structures via hydrogen bond interactions. Molecular docking confirmed that these complexes maintained steady states due to stronger hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, ionic bonds, conjugate systems, and lower hydrophobicity interactions. With the increased incidence of wine fraud, a fast and reliable method for wine certification has become a necessary prerequisite for the vigorous development of the global wine industry. In this study, a classification strategy based on three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy combined with chemometrics was proposed for oak-barrel and stainless steel tanks with oak chips aged wines. Principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares analysis (PLS-DA), and Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) were used to distinguish and evaluate the data matrix of the three-dimensional fluorescence spectra of wines. The results showed that FDA was superior to PCA and PLS-DA in classifying oak-barrel and stainless steel tanks with oak chips aged wines. As a general conclusion, three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy can provide valuable fingerprint information for the identification of oak-barrel and stainless steel tanks with oak chips aged wines, while the study will provide some theoretical references and standards for the quality control and quality assessment of oak-barrel aged wines. Benign lesions of the spine include benign tumors and tumor-like lesions of the spine, which usually occur in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. The incidence rate is low, accounting for about 1% of primary bone tumors. Few cases of endoscopic treatment of benign spinal lesions have been reported in the literature. Here, we introduce a new surgical technique using full endoscopy and allogeneic bone grafting to treat benign spinal lesions. All patients in this study successfully underwent the operation, and their pain was significantly relieved postoperatively. The patient VAS scores decreased from 3.07 ± 0.70 preoperatively to 0.33 ± 0.49 at the last follow-up visit (p < 0.05). The mean total blood loss (including drainage blood) was 16.67 ± 6.98 mL. The mean operative time was 63.33 ± 7.23 min. No patients developed numbness in the corresponding segmental distribution after surgery, none of the patients had serious postoperative complications, and none had focal recurrence during follow-up requiring reoperation. Patients reported symptom relief throughout the whole follow-up period. We believe that endoscopic surgery preserves the ligaments and soft tissues around the vertebral body, and that this technique is feasible with minimal trauma, rapid recovery, and good outcomes at short-term follow-up. The high cost and poor reliability of cathodic electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which requires significant amounts of expensive and scarce platinum, obstructs the broad applications of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The principles of ORR and the reasons for the poor stability of Pt-based catalysts are reviewed. Moreover, this paper discusses and categorizes the strategies for enhancing the stability of Pt-based catalysts in fuel cells. More importantly, it highlights the recent progress of Pt-based stability toward ORR, including surface-doping, intermetallic structures, 1D/2D structures, rational design of support, etc. Finally, for atomic-level in-depth information on ORR catalysts in fuel cells, potential perspectives are suggested, such as large-scale preparation, advanced interpretation techniques, and advanced simulation. The majority of object detection algorithms based on convolutional neural network are focused on larger objects. In order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of small object detection, a novel lightweight object detection algorithm with attention enhancement is proposed in this paper. The network part of the proposed algorithm is based on a single-stage framework and takes MobileNetV3-Large as a backbone. The representation of shallower scale features in the scale fusion module is enhanced by introducing an additional injection path from the backbone and a detection head specially responsible for detecting small objects is added. Instead of pooling operators, dilated convolution with hierarchical aggregation is used to reduce the effect of background pixels on the accuracy of small object locations. To improve the efficacy of merging, the spatial and channel weights of scale features are modified adaptively. Last but not least, to improve the representation of small objects in the training datasets, the Consistent Mixed Cropping method is also proposed. The small labels of standard datasets are expanded with the self-collected samples for the training of the algorithm network. According to the test results and visualization on the 64-Bit Extended (X86-64) platform and embedded Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) platform, we find that the average accuracy (mAP) of the proposed algorithm is 4.6% higher than YOLOv4 algorithm, which achieves better small object detection performance than YOLOv4 algorithm, and the computational complexity is only 12% of YOLOv4 algorithm. Zika virus (ZIKV), which is mainly transmitted by Aedes albopictus in temperate zones, can causes serious neurological disorders. However, the molecular mechanisms that influence the vector competence of Ae. albopictus for ZIKV are poorly understood. In this study, the vector competence of Ae. albopictus mosquitoes from Jinghong (JH) and Guangzhou (GZ) Cities of China were evaluated, and transcripts in the midgut and salivary gland tissues were sequenced on 10 days post-infection. The results showed that both Ae. albopictus JH and GZ strains were susceptible to ZIKV, but the GZ strain was more competent. The categories and functions of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in response to ZIKV infection were quite different between tissues and strains. Through a bioinformatics analysis, a total of 59 DEGs that may affect vector competence were screened—among which, cytochrome P450 304a1 (CYP304a1) was the only gene significantly downregulated in both tissues of two strains. However, CYP304a1 did not influence ZIKV infection and replication in Ae. albopictus under the conditions set in this study. Our results demonstrated that the different vector competence of Ae. albopictus for ZIKV may be determined by the transcripts in the midgut and salivary gland, which will contribute to understanding ZIKV–mosquito interactions and develop arbovirus disease prevention strategies. The identification of chicken sex before hatching is an important problem in large-scale breeding applications in the poultry industry. This paper systematically reviews the key techniques for in ovo sexing of chicken eggs before hatching and presents recent research on molecular-based, spectral-based, acoustic-based, morphology-based, and volatile organic compound (VOC)-based technologies. Molecular-based methods are standard techniques for accurate sexing but require perforations by skilled technicians in certified laboratories to extract egg contents. Spectral-based techniques show great potential as noninvasive methods but require complex data processing and modeling. Acoustic-based techniques are sensitive to environmental noise. Morphology-based studies on the outer shape of the eggshell and distribution of blood vessels provide novel methods for in ovo sexing of chicken eggs. However, they face challenges such as the color, thickness, and smoothness of the eggshell. VOC profiling of chicken eggs allows sexing in the early stages of incubation; however, the VOC composition may be influenced by species or feed, and more research is required to explore potential applications. In addition, recent breakthroughs on in ovo chicken egg sexing are discussed. Physiological changes in chicken eggs during the whole incubation period have been well studied using metabolism and phenotype tools to enhance mechanism recognition. Furthermore, various sensing techniques, from the X-ray to terahertz range, and deep learning algorithms have been employed for data acquisition, processing, mining, and modeling to capture and analyze key features. The time involved and the high economic cost of using oak barrels to age wines have led to a significant price difference compared to non-oak barrel aged wines and may lead to some fraudulent sales in the market. In this study, an untargeted metabolomic strategy was developed to detect the metabolite composition of oak barrel aged and non-oak barrel aged wines in both positive and negative ion modes by using UHPLC–HRMS combined with the recently developed chemometric method AntDAS. The results of partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA) showed that the samples were characterized into two categories. Finally, 51 compounds were identified in positive ion mode, while 26 compounds were identified in negative ion mode. The results indicate that combining UHPLC–HRMS with AntDAS can reveal the material basis of wines and has excellent potential to differentiate between oak barrel aged and non-oak barrel aged wines. Knowledge about the growth vigor of grapevine rootstocks is required for scion-based rootstock selection and rootstock breeding. We performed this trial aiming to evaluate the multiplication and growth vigor of several rootstocks. Thirty-one rootstock genotypes were compared on their multiplication characteristics, phenological periods, and growth indicators across three consecutive seasons. The results suggested that the cuttings of most rootstocks had callus-forming indices (CFIs) over 0.5 except for '188-08' (0.28). The rooting rate of '420A' was 5%, while that of the rest of the rootstocks was greater than 48%. The internode lengths of the one-year-old vines were positively correlated with those (as well as cane lengths and pruning weights) of the adult vines. These rootstocks were grouped into three clusters based on the growth measurements across three seasons. Eight combinations of genetic backgrounds showed various effects on the growth indicators. The high-vigor cluster includes '1103P', '5BB', '225Ru', etc.; the medium-vigor cluster includes 'Dogridge', '101-14M', 'Fercal', etc.; and the low-vigor cluster includes 'Gloire', '3309C', 'Ganzin1', etc. The Vitis berlandieri parentage showed a higher vigor heredity, while the V. riparia showed a lower vigor heredity. These findings would contribute to rootstock nursery construction and provide references for vigor-based rootstock selection for grafts and parent selection for rootstock breeding. The OI135.6 nm radiation intensity and the associated change with solar activity are very complex, and this is particularly the case during November 2020. In this paper, we investigated the OI135.6 nm radiation intensity in the low-latitude ionosphere during a quiet geomagnetic period. The Ionospheric Photometer (IPM) instrument onboard the FY-3(D) meteorological satellite was employed to measure the OI135.6 nm night airglow at 02:00 LT (local time) and its response to the solar activity. The results showed there is a statistically significant correlation between the intensity of the equatorial ionospheric anomaly (EIA) and solar activity after midnight. The EIA at 02:00 LT and before midnight shared the same climatological characteristics—strong in equinoxes and weak in solstices. In November 2020, when the F10.7 flux significantly increased, the OI135.6 nm radiation intensity in the EIA region recorded a 100–200% increase compared to the previous month, which was much higher than in the same period in the preceding two years. A similar phenomenon was observed at the same time by the Global-scale Observations of Limb and Disk (GOLD), which makes continuous observations of ionospheric structure variation in global patterns. Data analysis suggests that the EIA at 02:00 LT was due to the attenuation of the EIA before midnight after the disappearance of the eastward electric field. The magnetic latitude of the EIA crest (hereafter denoted by θ m l F 2 ) indicates a range-and-seasonal rule of hemispherical asymmetry: closer to the geomagnetic equator in equinoxes and farther away from the geomagnetic equator in solstices. Transplantation is an effective approach for treating end-stage organ failure. There has been a long-standing interest in xenotransplantation as a means of increasing the number of available organs. In the past decade, there has been tremendous progress in xenotransplantation accelerated by the development of rapid gene-editing tools and immunosuppressive therapy. Recently, the heart and kidney from pigs were transplanted into the recipients, which suggests that xenotransplantation has entered a new era. The genetic discrepancy and molecular incompatibility between pigs and primates results in barriers to xenotransplantation. An increasing body of evidence suggests that innate immune responses play an important role in all aspects of the xenogeneic rejection. Simultaneously, the role of important cellular components like macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and neutrophils, suggests that the innate immune response in the xenogeneic rejection should not be underestimated. Here, we summarize the current knowledge about the innate immune system in xenotransplantation and highlight the key issues for future investigations. Simple Summary: At the time of diagnosis, many gastric cancer (GC) patients were often found to have reached an advanced stage, with a five-year overall survival rate of less than 30%. Therefore, a better understanding of the underlying mechanism of GC metastasis is essential for developing novel and effective treatments. Many studies reported that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in gastric cancer (GC) metastasis and tumorigenesis. However, the underlying mechanisms of lncRNAs in GC remain unexplored to a great extent. LINC01537 expression level was detected using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Its biological roles in GC were then investigated using functional experiments. In order to investigate the underlying mechanism of LINC01537 in GC, RNA pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation, and ubiquitination assays were performed. LINC01537 was significantly overexpressed in GC tissues and associated with a poor prognosis. Functional experimental results revealed that LINC01537 promoted the proliferation, invasion, and migration of GC cells. The animal experiments revealed that LINC01537 promoted tumorigenesis and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistically, LINC01537 stabilizes RIPK4 by reducing the binding of RIPK4 to TRIM25 and reducing its ubiquitination degradation, thereby promoting the expression of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Microvascular dysfunction (MVD) has long plagued the medical field despite improvements in its prevention, diagnosis, and intervention. Microvascular lesions from MVD increase with age and further lead to impaired microcirculation, target organ dysfunction, and a mass of microvascular complications, thus contributing to a heavy medical burden and rising disability rates. An up-to-date understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying MVD will facilitate discoveries of more effective therapeutic strategies. Recent advances in epigenetics have revealed that RNA methylation, an epigenetic modification, has a pivotal role in vascular events. The N6-methylation of adenosine (m6A) modification is the most prevalent internal RNA modification in eukaryotic cells, which regulates vascular transcripts through splicing, degradation, translation, as well as translocation, thus maintaining microvascular homeostasis. Conversely, the disruption of the m6A regulatory network will lead to MVD. Herein, we provide a review discussing how m6A methylation interacts with MVD. We also focus on alterations of the m6A regulatory network under pathological conditions. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is common among young adults. Related studies showed a wide range of prevalence among university students. Few studies regarding BPD symptoms and their correlations with different variables have been reported in the Chinese population. A cross-sectional, online survey was conducted on a sample of university students in China between November 2021 and January 2022. Sociodemographic questionnaires, the Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (SI-Bord), the 18-item Experience in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-R-18), the Meaning In Life Questionnaire (MLQ), the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Resilience Inventory (RI-9) were completed. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation methods. Among 767 participants, mean age was 20.33 ± 1.495 years, and the majority were males (53.5%). According to the SI-Bord's cut-off score >7, BPD symptoms were found in 17.5% of participants. Attachment anxiety, avoidance, depression, perceived stress, lack of meaning in life, resilience and self-esteem were significantly correlated with BPD symptoms with r's of 0.473, 0.180, 0.451, 0.481, −0.148, −0.238 and −0.388, respectively (all p's < 0.01). The prevalence of BPD symptoms is high among Chinese university students and significantly associated with mental health outcomes, suggesting that an early detection of BPD symptoms is necessary for this population. The final closure time of the Paleo-Asian Ocean and the Permo-Carboniferous tectonic settings in the northern Alxa are very important but controversial tectonic issues. The geochronology and petrogenesis of mafic igneous rocks are superior in clarifying regional tectonic settings. Here, we report on zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes, biotite 40Ar/39Ar geochronology and whole-rock geochemical data of the hornblende gabbro from the Baogeqi gabbro pluton in the northern Alxa. The LA-ICP MS U-Pb analysis of zircon grains from the hornblende gabbro yield a weighted mean age of 262.7 ± 2.3 Ma (2σ, MSWD = 0.74), manifesting that the Baogeqi gabbro pluton emplacement was during the late Middle Permian (Capitanian). The 40Ar/39Ar dating of biotite grains from the hornblende gabbro yields a plateau age of 231.3 ± 1.6 Ma (2σ, MSWD = 0.55), indicating that the Baogeqi gabbro pluton cooled to below 300 ℃ in the Triassic. The hornblende gabbro samples are calc-alkaline with metaluminous character, and show enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (e.g., Rb, Ba, Sr, and K) but depletion in Nb, Ta, P, Th, and Ti relative to primitive mantle. Combined with the positive zircon εHf(t) values (+4.9–+9.4), we suggest that the magmas formed from the partial melting of depleted mantle were metasomatized by slab-derived fluids. Together with regional geology, these geochemical data suggest that the Baogeqi gabbro pluton was formed in an intracontinental extension setting, further indicating that the Paleo-Asian Ocean in the northern Alxa was closed prior to the late Middle Permian (Capitanian), and this region was in a post-collision extensional setting during the Capitanian-Late Permian. In addition, the Triassic cooling of the gabbro pluton may be a record of the decline of the Capitanian-Late Permian post-collisional extension basin due to the far-field effect of subduction-collision during the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. Bacterial nuclease RecJ, which exists in almost all bacterial species, specifically degrades single-stranded (ss) DNA in the 5' to 3' direction. Some archaeal phyla, except Crenarchaea, also encode RecJ homologs. Compared with bacterial RecJ, archaeal RecJ exhibits a largely different amino acid sequence and domain organization. Archaeal RecJs from Thermococcus kodakarensis and Pyrococcus furiosus show 5'→3' exonuclease activity on ssDNA. Interestingly, more than one RecJ exists in some Euryarchaeota classes, such as Methanomicrobia, Methanococci, Methanomicrobia, Methanobacteria, and Archaeoglobi. Here we report the biochemical characterization of two RecJs from Methanocaldococcus jannaschii, the long RecJ1 (MJ0977) and short RecJ2 (MJ0831) to understand their enzymatic properties. RecJ1 is a 5'→3' exonuclease with a preference to ssDNA; however, RecJ2 is a 3'→5' exonuclease with a preference to ssRNA. The 5' terminal phosphate promotes RecJ1 activity, but the 3' terminal phosphate inhibits RecJ2 nuclease. Go-Ichi-Ni-San (GINS) complex does not interact with two RecJs and does not promote their nuclease activities. Finally, we discuss the diversity, function, and molecular evolution of RecJ in archaeal taxonomy. Atrazine (2-chloro-4-ethytlamino-6-isopropylamine-1,3,5-triazine; ATR) is widely used as a broad-spectrum herbicide. Animal studies have demonstrated that ATR exposure can cause cell death in dopaminergic neurons. The molecular mechanisms underlying ATR-induced neuronal cell death, however, are unknown. In this study, we investigated the autophagy and apoptosis induced by ATR in dopaminergic neurons in vivo. Wistar rats were administered with ATR at doses of 10, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight by oral gavage for three months. In terms of histopathology, the expression of autophagy- and apoptosis-related genes as well as proteins related to the Beclin-1/B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) autophagy and apoptosis pathways were examined in the rat nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. We observed degenerative micromorphology indicative of neuronal apoptosis and mitochondrial autophagy by electron microscopy in ATR-exposed rat striatum. The rat ventral mesencephalon in the ATR-exposed groups also showed increased expression of Beclin-1, LC3-II, Bax and Caspase-9, and decreased expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), Bcl-xl and Bcl-2. These findings indicate that ATR may induce autophagy- and apoptosis-related changes in doparminergic neurons. Furthermore, this induction may be regulated by the Beclin-1 and Bcl-2 autophagy and apoptosis pathways, and this may help to better understand the mechanism underlying the neurotoxicity of ATR. Cyclopeptides or cyclic peptides are polypeptides formed by ring closing of terminal amino acids. A large number of natural cyclopeptides have been reported to be highly effective against different cancer cells, some of which are renowned for their clinical uses. Compared to linear peptides, cyclopeptides have absolute advantages of structural rigidity, biochemical stability, binding affinity as well as membrane permeability, which contribute greatly to their anticancer potency. Therefore, the discovery and development of natural cyclopeptides as anticancer agents remains attractive to academic researchers and pharmaceutical companies. Herein, we provide an overview of anticancer cyclopeptides that were discovered in the past 20 years. The present review mainly focuses on the anticancer efficacies, mechanisms of action and chemical structures of cyclopeptides with natural origins. Additionally, studies of the structure–activity relationship, total synthetic strategies as well as bioactivities of natural cyclopeptides are also included in this article. In conclusion, due to their characteristic structural features, natural cyclopeptides have great potential to be developed as anticancer agents. Driven by the rapid development of offshore wind farms, bucket foundations have come to constitute a very promising form of foundation for offshore wind turbines, mainly owing to their efficient construction. However, the penetration resistance of the suction penetration of a bucket foundation, when calculated inaccurately, may lead to installation failure of the foundation. In this study, model tests were performed on the suction penetration of a mono-bucket mono-compartment foundation and a mono-bucket multi-compartment foundation in saturated fine marine sand, aiming to compare their penetration resistances and critical suctions, and the development of a soil plug in the two models was analyzed. Four new diterpenoids, named aspidoptoids A–D (1–4), together with two known analogues (5–6) were isolated from Aspidopterys obcordata vine. Aspidoptoids A–B (1–2) are the first examples of phenylethylene-bearing 20-nor-diterpenoids of which aspidoptoid B (2) possesses a rare 3,10-oxybridge. Their structures and absolute configuration were determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses (IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation. SEM, TEM characterizations, in combination with tensile tests, provided an intriguing observation that ultra-high-strength and good ductility could be achieved simultaneously by changing the ratio of large and small precipitates in high-carbon steel (1.0C-1.5Cr-0.31Mn-0.20Si, wt %). The high yield strength of 670 MPa, tensile-stress of 740 MPa, and good ductility (elongation of 26%) were obtained by adopting spheroidization annealing, cold rolling, recrystallization annealing, and cold drawing. This led to nanosized precipitates with a large ratio of big size to the small size of 0.28, promoting high dislocation storage of 1.39 × 1014 m−2. In addition, the finite element (FE) method was used to simulate the cold-rolling process, and the largest stress and strain were 830 MPa and 0.6 at a depth of 3 mm after the fourth pass of the 0.10C-1.50Cr steel, respectively. The stress and strain accumulation in the top layer was potentially caused by severe plastic deformation, as well as attrition rendered by the rollers. A multi-residue method for the determination of 107 pesticide residues in wolfberry has been developed and validated. Similar pretreatment approaches were compared, and the linearity, matrix effect, analysis limits, precision, stability and accuracy were validated, which verifies the satisfactory performance of this new method. The LODs and LOQs were in the range of 0.14–1.91 µg/kg and 0.46–6.37 µg/kg, respectively. The recovery of analytes at three fortification levels (10 µg/kg, 50 µg/kg, 100 µg/kg) ranged from 63.3–123.0%, 72.0–118.6% and 67.0–118.3%, respectively, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) below 15.0%. The proposed method was applied to the analysis of fifty wolfberry samples collected from supermarkets, pharmacies and farmers' markets in different cities of Shandong Province. One hundred percent of the samples analyzed included at least one pesticide, and a total of 26 pesticide residues was detected in fifty samples, which mainly were insecticides and bactericide. Several pesticides with higher detection rates were 96% for acetamiprid, 82% for imidacloprid, 54% for thiophanate-methyl, 50% for blasticidin-S, 42% for carbendazim, 42% for tebuconazole and 36% for difenoconazole in wolfberry samples. This study proved the adaptability of the developed method to the detection of multiple pesticide residues in wolfberry and provided basis for the research on the risks to wolfberry health. Even though the reversal of multi-drug resistance (MDR) by numerous nanoparticles has been extensively studied, limited success has been achieved. To overcome this barrier, we report a rationally-designed pH-sensitive micelle, in which doxorubicin (Dox) and resveratrol (Res) were co-loaded. The micelle was based on methoxy poly (ethylene glycol)-poly(d,l-lactide)-poly(l-histidine) (mPEG-PLA-PHis), which integrated passive targeting, endo-lysosomal escape and pH-responsive payloads release. At a physiological pH of 7.4 (slightly alkali), Dox and Res were incorporated into the micelles core using the thin-film hydration method (pH-endoSM/Dox/Res). After cellular uptake, the micelles exhibited an enhanced dissociation in response to the acidic endosomes, triggering the release of Res and Dox. Furthermore, Res was observed to synergistically improve the cytotoxicity of Dox by down-regulating the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression, decreasing the membrane potential of the mitochondrial and ATP level, as well as inducing cell apoptosis mediated by mitochondria. The pH-endoSM/Dox/Res showed a prominent ability to decrease the IC50 of Dox by a factor of 17.38 in cell cytotoxicity against the MCF-7/ADR cell line. In vivo distribution demonstrated the excellent tumor-targeting ability of the pH-endoSM/Dox/Res. To investigate the variation in the condition factor of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus nudus (S. nudus), gonads were collected in May (MAY), June (JUN), and July (JUL), at the beginning (AUG-b) and end of August (AUG-e). Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) detection of the gonads revealed an obvious enhancement of the band at about 37 kDa from July, which was identified as transforming growth factor-beta-induced protein ig-h3 (TGFBI) by nanoLC-ESI-MS/MS. Gonadal proteins were identified by isobaric tagging for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ), and regulation of the identified proteins in pairs of the collected groups was observed. A total of 174 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified. Seven of the DEPs showed significant correlations with both the gonad index (GI) and protein content. These correlations included 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, decarboxylating isoform X2 (6PGD), CAD protein, myoferlin isoform X8, ribosomal protein L36 (RL36), isocitrate dehydrogenase [NADP], mitochondrial isoform X2 (IDH), multifunctional protein ADE2 isoform X3, sperm-activating peptides (SAPs) and aldehyde dehydrogenase, and mitochondrial (ALDH). However, TGFBI had no correlation with gonad index (GI) or protein content. 6PGD, IDH, multifunctional protein ADE2 isoform X3, and ALDH were shown to interact with each other and might play key roles in changing the condition factor of S. nudus gonads. Casein hydrolysates (CH) were prepared using papain and modified by the plastein reaction (CH-P) in the presence of extrinsic phenylalanine (CH-P-Phe) or tryptophan (CH-P-Trp). The in vitro protective activity of CH and its modified products against ethanol-induced damage in HHL-5 cells was investigated. The results showed that the modification by the plastein reaction reduced the amino group content of CH. However, the modification by the plastein reaction in the presence of extrinsic amino acids could enhance the antioxidant, proliferative, cell cycle arresting, and anti-apoptosis activity of CH. Biological activities of CH and its modified products in the HHL-5 cells varied depending on the hydrolysate concentration (1, 2, and 3 mg/mL) and treatment time (24, 48, and 72 h). Generally, higher biological activities were found after cell treatment with CH or its modified products at concentration of 2 mg/mL for 48 h compared to other treatments. In addition, CH modified in the presence of tryptophan (CH-P-Trp) showed higher biological activity than that modified in the presence of phenylalanine (CH-P-Phe). Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that casein hydrolysates with enhanced biological activity and potential health benefits can be produced by papain and the plastein reaction with the incorporation of extrinsic amino acids. XPF endonuclease is one of the most important DNA repair proteins. Encoded by XPF/ERCC4, XPF provides the enzymatic activity of XPF-ERCC1 heterodimer, an endonuclease that incises at the 5' side of various DNA lesions. XPF is essential for nucleotide excision repair (NER) and interstrand crosslink repair (ICLR). XPF/ERCC4 mutations are associated with several human diseases: Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), Segmental Progeria (XFE), Fanconi Anemia (FA), Cockayne Syndrome (CS), and XP/CS combined disease (XPCSCD). Most affected individuals are compound heterozygotes for XPF/ERCC4 mutations complicating the identification of genotype/phenotype correlations. We report a detailed overview of NER and ICLR functional studies in human XPF-KO (knock-out) isogenic cells expressing six disease-specific pathogenic XPF amino acid substitution mutations. Ultraviolet (UV) sensitivity and unscheduled DNA synthesis (UDS) assays provide the most reliable information to discern mutations associated with ICLR impairment from mutations related to NER deficiency, whereas recovery of RNA synthesis (RRS) assays results hint to a possible role of XPF in resolving R-loops. Our functional studies demonstrate that a defined cellular phenotype cannot be easily correlated to each XPF mutation. Substituted positions along XPF sequences are not predictive of cellular phenotype nor reflect a particular disease. Therefore, in addition to mutation type, allelic interactions, protein stability and intracellular distribution of mutant proteins may also contribute to alter DNA repair pathways balance leading to clinically distinct disorders. 2-aryl-N-alkylbenzimidazole derivatives synthesized by CuI/PPh3 promoted direct coupling of N-alkylbenzimidazoles with aryl bromides. In vitro neurotoxicities of 20 compounds were evaluated, and the neuroprotective abilities of low-neurotoxic compounds (3b, 3g, 3h, 3i, 3j, 3k, 3o, 3q, 3s and 3t) were investigated against toxicity induced by 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium ion (MPP+) in SH-SY5Y neuronal cells. In silico studies revealed that compound 3g could have molecule docking with the following proteins: the bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 1B (BMPR1B), human cytochrome P450 1B1(CYP1B1), Metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (GRM7), histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6), 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 5A (HTR5A), human topoisomerase II beta (TOP2B). Bacterial nuclease RecJ, which exists in almost all bacterial species, specifically degrades single-stranded (ss) DNA in the 5' to 3' direction. Some archaeal phyla, except Crenarchaea, also encode RecJ homologs. Compared with bacterial RecJ, archaeal RecJ exhibits a largely different amino acid sequence and domain organization. Archaeal RecJs from Thermococcus kodakarensis and Pyrococcus furiosus show 5'→3' exonuclease activity on ssDNA. Interestingly, more than one RecJ exists in some Euryarchaeota classes, such as Methanomicrobia, Methanococci, Methanomicrobia, Methanobacteria, and Archaeoglobi. Here we report the biochemical characterization of two RecJs from Methanocaldococcus jannaschii , the long RecJ1 (MJ0977) and short RecJ2 (MJ0831) to understand their enzymatic properties. RecJ1 is a 5'→3' exonuclease with a preference to ssDNA; however, RecJ2 is a 3'→5' exonuclease with a preference to ssRNA. The 5' terminal phosphate promotes RecJ1 activity, but the 3' terminal phosphate inhibits RecJ2 nuclease. Go-Ichi-Ni-San (GINS) complex does not interact with two RecJs and does not promote their nuclease activities. Finally, we discuss the diversity, function, and molecular evolution of RecJ in archaeal taxonomy. Atrazine (2-chloro-4-ethytlamino-6-isopropylamine-1,3,5-triazine; ATR) is widely used as a broad-spectrum herbicide. Animal studies have demonstrated that ATR exposure can cause cell death in dopaminergic neurons. The molecular mechanisms underlying ATR-induced neuronal cell death, however, are unknown. In this study, we investigated the autophagy and apoptosis induced by ATR in dopaminergic neurons in vivo. Wistar rats were administered with ATR at doses of 10, 50 and 100 mg/kg body weight by oral gavage for three months. In terms of histopathology, the expression of autophagy- and apoptosis-related genes as well as proteins related to the Beclin-1/B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) autophagy and apoptosis pathways were examined in the rat nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. We observed degenerative micromorphology indicative of neuronal apoptosis and mitochondrial autophagy by electron microscopy in ATR-exposed rat striatum. The rat ventral mesencephalon in the ATR-exposed groups also showed increased expression of Beclin-1, LC3-II, Bax and Caspase-9, and decreased expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), Bcl-xl and Bcl-2. These findings indicate that ATR may induce autophagy- and apoptosis-related changes in doparminergic neurons. Furthermore, this induction may be regulated by the Beclin-1 and Bcl-2 autophagy and apoptosis pathways, and this may help to better understand the mechanism underlying the neurotoxicity of ATR.
