The monitoring of acetone in exhaled breath is expected to provide a noninvasive and painless method for dynamic monitoring of summarized physiological metabolic status during obesity treatment. Although the commonly used Mass Spectrometry (MS) technology has high accuracy, the long detection time and large equipment size limit the application of daily bedside detection. As for the real-time and accurate detection of acetone, the gas sensor has become the best choice of gas detection technology, but it is easy to be disturbed by water vapor in breath gas. An integrated breath gas detection system based on cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) is reported in this paper, which is a laser absorption spectroscopy technique with high-sensitivity detection and absolute quantitative analysis. The system uses a 266 nm single-wavelength ultraviolet laser combined with a breath gas pretreatment unit to effectively remove the influence of water vapor. The ring-down time of this system was 1.068 μs, the detection sensitivity was 1 ppb, and the stability of the system was 0.13%. The detection principle of the integrated breath gas detection system follows Lambert–Beer's law, which is an absolute measurement with very high detection accuracy, and was further validated by Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) testing. Significant differences in the response of the integrated breath gas detection system to simulated gases containing different concentrations of acetone indicate the potential of the system for the detection of trace amounts of acetone. Meanwhile, the monitoring of acetone during obesity treatment also signifies the feasibility of this system in the dynamic monitoring of physiological indicators, which is not only important for the optimization of the obesity treatment process but also promises to shed further light on the interaction between obesity treatment and physiological metabolism in medicine. A review is given of precision measurements of hyperfine constants and nuclear g-factors measured with ions confined in ion traps. The nuclear physics observables which can be extracted from these types of measurements are discussed. The feasibility of future nuclear structure studies using precision atomic spectroscopy of trapped radioactive atoms, produced with accelerator-driven approaches, is discussed. The crystalline morphology and glaze color of Jian Kiln oil-spot glaze porcelain exhibit artistic beauty, making it one of the typical representatives of iron-based crystallized black porcelain from the Song Dynasty in China. This study sampled a series of specimens from key temperature points during simulation experiments, employing rapid air quenching to preserve the high-temperature state, capturing the formation process of oil-spot glaze crystals in Jian kiln ceramics. Key samples were subjected to microscopic structure and phase analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), revealing the formation mechanism of oil-spot glaze crystals in Jian kiln ceramics. The results indicate that the bubbles generated from the decomposition of iron oxide at high temperatures facilitate the migration and enrichment of iron-rich particles towards the glaze surface, laying a crucial material foundation for the subsequent crystallization process. The high-temperature reducing atmosphere accelerates the decomposition reaction of iron oxide, altering the concentration of Fe2+ in the glaze, the viscosity of the melt, and the surface tension, all of which are critical conditions that promote the formation of oil-spot glaze crystals. During the cooling phase, Fe3O4 nanocrystals oxidize into ε-Fe2O3 crystals, with external iron sources migrating inward to support ε-Fe2O3 crystal growth. This process gradually leads to the formation of micrometer-scale, leaf-shaped ε-Fe2O3 crystals that fully occupy the crystalline spots. The coloration of crystalline spots is closely tied to the size of the crystals. Thus, by adjusting the cooling regime, it is possible to create iron-based crystallization glazes with innovative color effects. Furthermore, this study offers significant insights for understanding the crystallization mechanisms of other ancient Chinese high-temperature iron-based crystallization glazes. This study investigates the optical properties of diffraction gratings using localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) with metal nano-hemispheres. We fabricated metal nano-hemisphere gratings (MNHGS) with Ga, Ag, and Au and examined their wavelength-selective diffraction properties. Our findings show that these gratings exhibit peak diffraction efficiencies at 300 nm, 500 nm, and 570 nm, respectively, corresponding to the LSPR wavelengths of each metal. The MNHGs were created through thermal nanoimprint and metal deposition, followed by annealing. The experimental and simulation results confirmed that the MNHGs selectively diffract light at their resonance wavelengths. Applying these findings to third-order nonlinear laser spectroscopy (MPT-TG method) enhances measurement sensitivity by reducing background noise through the selective diffraction of pump light while transmitting probe light. A highly efficient and sensitive ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) system with laser desorption sampling was applied for rapid explosive detection using different surface materials. This portable IMS detector, powered by a battery, offers mobility and is suitable for use in the field or combat zones. The laser desorption (LD) sampling of common explosives (Trinitrotoluene—TNT; Dinitrotoluenes—DNTs; Hexogene—RDX; pentaerythritol tetranitrate—PETN; plastic explosives—Compound 4 (C-4) and Semtex) on a wide range of common surface materials, such as metal, ceramic, plastic, glass, drywall, paper, wood, and textiles, was studied. Successful detection was achieved on nearly all surfaces except flammable materials (paper, wood, and textiles). The limit of detection (LOD) was determined for each explosive and specific surface, demonstrating an impressive LOD of 7 ng/mm2 for TNT. Standoff laser absorption spectroscopy (LAS) has attracted considerable interest across many applications for environmental safety. Herein, we propose an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) microcantilever LAS combined with machine learning (ML) for sensitive and selective standoff discrimination of explosive residues. A nanoporous AAO microcantilever with a thickness of <1 μm was fabricated using a micromachining process; its spring constant (18.95 mN/m) was approximately one-third of that of a typical Si microcantilever (53.41 mN/m) with the same dimensions. The standoff infrared (IR) spectra of pentaerythritol tetranitrate, cyclotrimethylene trinitramine, and trinitrotoluene were measured using our AAO microcantilever LAS over a wide range of wavelengths, and they closely matched the spectra obtained using standard Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The standoff IR spectra were fed into ML models, such as kernel extreme learning machines (KELMs), support vector machines (SVMs), random forest (RF), and backpropagation neural networks (BPNNs). Among these four ML models, the kernel-based ML models (KELM and SVM) were found to be efficient learning models able to satisfy both a high prediction accuracy (KELM: 94.4%, SVM: 95.8%) and short hyperparameter optimization time (KELM: 5.9 s, SVM: 7.6 s). The photoprocesses of diethylamino derivatives of 1,4- and 1,3-distyrylbenzenes in MeCN were studied using absorption, luminescence, 1H NMR, and laser kinetic spectroscopy. Compounds 1 and 2 undergo intersystem crossing to the triplet state and exhibit delayed fluorescence. It was concluded that dye radical anions and radical cations are formed upon dismutation of the triplet state in the presence of an electron donor or acceptor. Quantum mechanical calculations for the structures of diethylamino distyrylbenzenes in the ground and excited states were carried out, making it possible to establish the structures of isomers and the most stable conformers for both compounds. Commercially available 316L (1.4404) stainless steel is commonly used for industrial filtration due to its combination of good material properties, particularly its corrosion resistance, which is a critical factor for filters in corrosive (e.g., saltwater) environments. Recently, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has enabled new more complex and efficient filtration pieces to be manufactured from this material. However, it is critical to know how the corrosion resistance is affected by this manufacturing strategy. Here, the corrosion resistance of LPBF manufactured 316L stainless steel is compared with wrought 316L sheet. The corrosion of the samples in saltwater was assessed with asymmetric electrochemical noise, potentiodynamic polarisation curve, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The samples before and after corrosion were examined with scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy. The LPBF samples had higher corrosion resistance than the sheet samples and were more noble. The corrosion resistance of the LPBF sample increased with time, while the wrought sample corrosion resistance reduced over time. The corrosion mechanism of both samples was stable with time, formed of a passive film process and a bared material process. Lanthanides and actinides are emerging contaminants, but little is known about their uptake and distribution by plants and their interactions in the rhizosphere. To better understand the fate of these metals in plants, the bioassociation of 2, 20 and 200 µM Eu(III) by five hydroponically grown crops endemic to Europe was assessed. The metal's concentration and its speciation were monitored by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and laser spectroscopy, whereas root exudation was investigated by chromatographic methods. It has been shown, that Eu(III) bioassociation is a two-stage process, involving rapid biosorption followed by accumulation in root tissue and distribution to the stem and leaves. Within 96 h of exposure time, the plant induces a change of Eu(III) speciation in the liquid medium, from a predominant Eu(III)aquo species, as calculated by thermodynamic modelling, to a species with longer luminescence lifetime. Root exudates such as citric, malic, and fumaric acid were identified in the cultivation medium and affect Eu(III) speciation in solution, as was shown by a change in the thermodynamic model. These results contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the fate of lanthanides in the biosphere and provide a basis for further investigations with the chemical analogues Cm(III) and Am(III). Melanin is a crucial pigment in melanomagenesis. Its fluorescence in human tissue is exceedingly weak but can be detected through advanced laser spectroscopy techniques. The spectral profile of melanin fluorescence distinctively varies among melanocytes, nevomelanocytes, and melanoma cells, with melanoma cells exhibiting a notably "red" fluorescence spectrum. This characteristic enables the diagnosis of melanoma both in vivo and in histological samples. Neuromelanin, a brain pigment akin to melanin, shares similar fluorescence properties. Its fluorescence can also be quantified with high spectral resolution using the same laser spectroscopic methods. Documented fluorescence spectra of neuromelanin in histological samples from the substantia nigra substantiate these findings. Our research reveals that the spectral behavior of neuromelanin fluorescence mirrors that of melanin in melanomas. This indicates that the typical red fluorescence is likely influenced by the microenvironment around (neuro)melanin, rather than by direct pigment interactions. Our ongoing studies aim to further explore this distinctive "red" fluorescence. We have observed this red fluorescence spectrum in post-mortem measurements of melanin in benign nevus. The characteristic red spectrum is also evident here (unlike the benign nevus in vivo), suggesting that hypoxia may contribute to this phenomenon. Given the central role of hypoxia in both melanoma development and treatment, as well as in fundamental Parkinson's disease mechanisms, this study discusses strategies aimed at reinforcing the hypothesis that red fluorescence from (neuro)melanin serves as an indicator of hypoxia. Tunable diode laser spectroscopy (TDLS) is a measurement technique with high spectral resolution. It is based on tuning the emission wavelength of a semiconductor laser by altering its current and/or its temperature. However, adjusting the wavelength leads to a change in emission intensity. For applications that rely on modulated radiation, the challenge is to isolate the true spectrum from the influence of extraneous instrumental contributions, particularly residual intensity and wavelength modulation. We present a novel approach combining TDLS with interferometric techniques, exemplified by the use of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer, to enable the separation of intensity and wavelength modulation. With interferometrically enhanced intensity modulation, we reduced the residual wavelength modulation by 83%, and with interferometrically enhanced wavelength modulation, we almost completely removed the residual derivative of the signal. A reduction in residual wavelength modulation enhances the spectral resolution of intensity-modulated measurements, whereas a reduction in residual intensity modulation improves the signal-to-noise ratio and the sensitivity of wavelength-modulated measurements. Here, the optical properties of the Nafion polymer membrane containing colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals embedded by diffusion have been studied. The CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals have a core/shell/shell appearance. All experiments were carried out at room temperature (22 ± 2) °C. A toluene solution was used to provide mobility to the active sulfone groups of the Nafion membrane and to embed the nanocrystals inside the membrane. The diffusion process of colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals into Nafion proton exchange membrane has resulted in a new molecular complex "Nafion–colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals". The kinetics of the nanocrystals embedding into the membrane matrix was investigated using luminescence analysis and absorption spectroscopy techniques. The embedding rate of CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals into the Nafion polymer membrane was approximately 4·10−3 min−1. The presence of new luminescence centers in the membrane was proved independently by laser emission spectroscopy. The luminescence spectrum of the resulting molecular complex contains intensity maxima at wavelengths of 538, 588, 643 and 700 nm. The additional luminescence maximum observed at the 643 nm wavelength was not recorded in the original membrane, solvent or in the spectrum of the semiconductor nanoparticles. The luminescence maximum of the colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanocrystals was registered at a wavelength of 634 nm. The intensity of the luminescence spectrum of the membrane with embedded nanocrystals was found to be higher than the intensity of the secondary emission peak of the initial nanocrystals, which is important for the practical use of the "Nafion–colloidal nanocrystals" complex in optical systems. The lines contained in the luminescence spectrum of the membrane, which has been in solution with colloidal nanocrystals for a long time, registered upon its drying, show the kinetics of the formation of the molecular complex "Nafion membrane–nanocrystals". Tunable laser spectroscopy (TLS) with infrared (IR) imaging is a powerful tool for gas leak detection. This study focuses on direct absorption spectroscopy (DAS) that utilizes wavelength modulation to extract gas information. A tunable interband cascade laser (ICL) with an optical power of 5 mW is periodically modulated by a sawtooth injection current at 10 Hz across the methane absorption around 3271 nm. A fast and sensitive thermal imaging camera for the mid-infrared range between 3 and 5.7 µm is operated at a frame rate of 470 Hz. Offline processing of image stacks is performed using different algorithms (DAS-F, DAS-f and DAS-2f) based on the Lambert–Beer law and the HITRAN database. These algorithms analyze various features of gas absorption, such as area (F), peak (f) and second derivative (2f) of the absorbance. The methane concentration in ppm*m is determined on a pixel-by-pixel analysis without calibration. Leak localization for methane leak rates as low as 0.25 mL/min is accurately displayed in a single concentration image with pixelwise sensitivities of approximately 1 ppm*m in a laboratory environment. Concentration image sequences represent the spatiotemporal dynamics of a gas plume with high contrast. The DAS-2f concept demonstrates promising characteristics, including accuracy, precision, 1/f noise rejection, simplicity and computational efficiency, expanding the applications of DAS. The Shimensi super-large tungsten polymetallic deposit is located in the Late Jurassic–Early Cretaceous Porphyry–Skarn tungsten ore belt in the south Yangtze metallogenic belt. There are three types of mineralization: veinlet-disseminated type, thick quartz vein type and hydrothermal cryptoexplosive breccia type. Based on geological studies, this paper presents new petrographic, microthermometric, laser Raman spectroscopic and hydrogen and oxygen isotope research on the fluid inclusions from the deposit. The results show that there are five different types of fluid inclusions: liquid-rich inclusions, vapor-rich inclusions, pure liquid inclusions, pure vapor inclusions, and fluid inclusions containing a solid crystal. The homogenization temperatures of the fluid inclusion range from 140 °C to 270 °C, the salinities are 3 wt.%–5 wt.% NaCleq and the densities of ore-forming fluid range from 0.64 g/cm3 to 0.99 g/cm3. For the analyses of laser Raman spectroscopy, the ore-forming fluids can be approximated by a Ca2+-Na+-SO42−-Cl− fluid system with small amounts of CO2, CH4 and N2. Otherwise, the data of the pressure, pH and Eh show a fluid metallogenic environment of low pressure, weak acid and weak reduction. The values of the homogenization temperature in the three types of orebodies suggest that the mineralization is characterized by a decrease in temperature under the conditions of fluid immiscibility. The H-O isotope values are interpreted to indicate that the ore-forming fluids are mainly composed of magmatic water, and meteoric water is added with the process of magma rising. The combustion process is complex and harsh, and the supersonic combustion flow field is also characterized by short duration and supersonic speed, which makes the real-time diagnostic technology for the transient environment extremely demanding. It is of great significance to realize high time-resolved accurate measurement of temperature, component concentration, and other parametric information of the combustion field to study the transient chemical reaction dynamics of the combustion field. Femtosecond CARS spectroscopy can effectively avoid the collision effect between particles in the measurement process and reduce the influence of the non-resonant background to improve the measurement accuracy and realize the time-resolved measurement on a millisecond scale. This paper introduces the development history of femtosecond CARS spectroscopy, points out its advantages and disadvantages, and looks forward to the future development trend to carry out high time-resolved measurements, establish a database of temperature changes in various complex combustion fields, and provide support for the study of engine mechanisms. The intelligent diagnosis key technology of orchard nutrients provides a decision-making basis for precision fertilization, which has important research significance. This article reviewed the recent research literature, compared and analyzed existing technologies, and summarized solved and unresolved problems. It aimed to find breakthroughs to further improve the level of intelligent diagnosis key technology for orchard nutrients, and promote the implementation and application of the technology. Research had found that the current rapid nutrient detection technologies were mostly based on spectral data, with a focus on preprocessing algorithms and regression models. Hyperspectral technology shows good performance in predicting tree and soil nutrients due to its large number of characteristic variables. Meanwhile, preprocessing algorithms such as filtering, transformation, and feature band selection had also solved the problem of data redundancy. However, there were few studies for small and trace elements, and field applications. Laser breakdown-induced spectroscopy has good prospects for soil nutrient detection, as it can simultaneously detect multiple nutrients. There had been some studies on the technology for generating suitable nutrient standards for orchards in terms of soil and tree nutrients, but it requires a long and extensive experiment, which is time-consuming and laborious. Low-dimension materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have received extensive research interest and investigation for electronic and optoelectronic applications. Due to their unique widely tunable band structures, they are good candidates for next-generation optoelectronic devices. Particularly, their photoluminescence properties, which are fundamental for optoelectronic applications, are highly sensitive to the nature of the band gap. Monolayer TMDCs in the room temperature range have presented a direct band gap behavior and bright photoluminescence. In this work, we investigate a popular TMDC material WSe2's photoluminescence performance using a Raman spectroscopy laser with temperature dependence. With temperature variation, the lattice constant and the band gap change dramatically, and thus the photoluminescence spectra are changed. By checking the photoluminescence spectra at different temperatures, we are able to reveal the nature of direct-to-indirect band gap in monolayer WSe2. We also implemented density function theory (DFT) simulations to computationally investigate the band gap of WSe2 to provide comprehensive evidence and confirm the experimental results. Our study suggests that monolayer WSe2 is at the transition boundary between the indirect and direct band gap at room temperature. This result provides insights into temperature-dependent optical transition in monolayer WSe2 for quantum control, and is important for cultivating the potential of monolayer WSe2 in thermally tunable optoelectronic devices operating at room temperature. This work studies enhancing the capabilities of compact laser spectroscopes integrated into space-exploration rovers by adding 3D topography measurement techniques. Laser spectroscopy enables the in situ analysis of sample composition, aiding in the understanding of the geological history of extraterrestrial bodies. To complement spectroscopic data, the inclusion of 3D imaging is proposed to provide unprecedented contextual information. The morphological information aids material characterization and hence the constraining of rock and mineral histories. Assigning height information to lateral pixels creates topographies, which offer a more complete spatial dataset than contextual 2D imaging. To aid the integration of 3D measurement into future proposals for rover-based laser spectrometers, the relevant scientific, rover, and sample constraints are outlined. The candidate 3D technologies are discussed, and estimates of performance, weight, and power consumptions guide the down-selection process in three application examples. Technology choice is discussed from different perspectives. Inline microscopic fringe-projection profilometry, incoherent digital holography, and multiwavelength digital holography are found to be promising candidates for further development. Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology, combined with chromatographic imaging algorithms, is commonly used for two-dimensional temperature and concentration measurements in combustion fields. However, obtaining critical temperature information from limited detection data is a challenging task in practical engineering applications due to the difficulty of deploying sufficient detection equipment and the lack of sufficient data to invert temperature and other distributions in the combustion field. Therefore, we propose a sparse projection multi-view synthesis model based on U-Net that incorporates the sequence learning properties of gated recurrent unit (GRU) and the generalization ability of residual networks, called GMResUNet. The datasets used for training all contain projection data with different degrees of sparsity. This study shows that the synthesized full projection data had an average relative error of 0.35%, a PSNR of 40.726, and a SSIM of 0.997 at a projection angle of 4. At projection angles of 2, 8, and 16, the average relative errors of the synthesized full projection data were 0.96%, 0.19%, and 0.18%, respectively. The temperature field reconstruction was performed separately for sparse and synthetic projections, showing that the application of the model can significantly improve the reconstruction accuracy of the temperature field of high-energy combustion. We present a low-noise (<10 µ rad / Hz ) broadband Faraday Rotation Spectroscopy method which is feasible for near-ultraviolet through near-infrared wavelengths. We demonstrate this in the context of a high-precision spectroscopy experiment using a heated Pb vapor cell and two different lasers, one in the UV (368 nm) and a second in the IR (1279 nm). A key element of the experimental technique is the use of a uniaxial single crystal CeF3 Faraday modulator with excellent transmission and optical rotation properties across the aforementioned wavelength range. Polarimeter performance is assessed as a function of crystal orientation and alignment, AC modulation amplitude, laser power, and laser wavelength. Crystal-induced distortion of the (6 p 2) 3 P 0 → (6 p 2) 3 P 1 (1279 nm) and (6 p 2) 3 P 1 → (6 p 7 s) 3 P 0 (368 nm) spectral lines due to misalignment-induced birefringence is discussed and modeled using the Jones calculus. In this work, we present a compact LIBS sensor developed for characterization of samples on a crime scene following requirements of law enforcement agencies involved in the project. The sensor operates both in a tabletop mode, for aside measurements of swabbed materials or taken fragments, and in handheld mode where the sensor head is pointed directly on targets at the scene. The sensor head is connected via an umbilical to an instrument box that could be battery-powered and contains also a color camera for sample visualization, illumination LEDs, and pointing system for placing the target in focus. Here we describe the sensor's architecture and functionalities, the optimization of the acquisition parameters, and the results of some LIBS measurements. On nano-plotted traces at silica wafer and in optimized conditions, for most of the elements the detection limits, in term of the absolute element masses, were found to be below 10 picograms. We also show results obtained on some representative materials, like fingerprints, swabbed soil and gunshot residue, varnishes on metal, and coated plastics. The last, solid samples were used to evaluate the depth profiling capabilities of the instrument, where the recognition of all four car paint layers was achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigated the characteristics of radiofrequency, middle-pressure argon plasma used in the atomic layer deposition (ALD) of Al2O3 films. Based on the electrical characteristics—the current, voltage, and phase shift between them—and the stability of the plasma plume, the optimum plasma power, allowing reliable switching on of the plasma for any step of an ALD cycle, was determined. Spectral measurements were performed to determine the gas temperature and reactive species that could be important in the ALD process. The density of metastable argon atoms was estimated using tunable laser absorption spectroscopy. It was concluded that plasma heating of substrates did not affect film growth. When investigating complex atomic spectra, it may happen accidentally that two or even several transitions between different pairs of combining energy levels have nearly the same wavenumber, and the observed spectral lines are overlapping (blend situations). In such cases, investigations of hyperfine structures can be very helpful in the identification of the involved transitions. In this paper, two complicated blend situations within the spectra of lanthanide atoms (Praseodymium and Lanthanum) are discussed as examples. The experimental methods applied are optogalvanic and laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy, combined with emission spectra gained via Fourier transform spectroscopy. The transmission spectrum of a narrow-band interference filter is crucial and highly influenced by factors such as the temperature and angle, thus requiring precise and online measurements. The traditional method of measuring the transmission spectrum of an interference filter involves the use of a spectrometer, but the accuracy of this method is limited. Moreover, placing a narrow-band interference filter inside a spectrometer hinders real-time online measurements. To address this issue, there is demand for high-precision online spectral testing methods. In response to this demand, we propose and experimentally validate a fine spectral characterization method for narrow-band interference filters. This method uses a narrow-linewidth tunable laser, achieving a spectral resolution in the MHz range for online testing. Two types of narrow-band interference filters were tested using the constructed laser spectroscopy experimental system, obtaining a transmission spectrum with a spectral resolution of 318 MHz. In comparison to spectrometer-based methods, our proposed method demonstrates higher spectral accuracy, enables online measurements, and provides more accurate measurements for special spectral interference filters. The presence of an elevated amount of methane (CH4) in exhaled breath can be used as a non-invasive tool to monitor certain health conditions. A compact, inexpensive and transportable CH4 sensor is thus very interesting for this purpose. In addition, if the sensor is also able to simultaneously measure carbon dioxide (CO2), one can extract the end-tidal concentration of exhaled CH4. Here, we report on such a sensor based on a commercial detection module using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. It was found that the measured CH4/CO2 values exhibit a strong interference with water vapor. Therefore, correction functions were experimentally identified and validated for both CO2 and CH4. A custom-built breath sampler was developed and tested with the sensor for real-time measurements of CH4 and CO2 in exhaled breath. As a result, the breath sensor demonstrated the capability of accurately measuring the exhaled CH4 and CO2 profiles in real-time. The greenhouse effect resulting from fuel combustion has drawn growing attention, and CO2 emissions from fossil fuel power stations are one of the main sources of greenhouse gases. It is crucial to monitor the concentration of CO2 in the flue gas ducts of these stations. However, pressure and vibration caused by the combustion of boilers make the measurement of CO2 in flue gas ducts extremely challenging. In this study, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) combined with Wave Modulation Spectroscopy (WMS) was employed to measure the concentration of CO2 under different pressure and vibration conditions in the laboratory. The absorption line of CO2 at the wavenumber 6357.38 cm−1 was recorded under varying pressure conditions ranging from 0 to 1.4 atm, acceleration conditions ranging from 0 to 7.7 m/s2, and a combination of both. Firstly, a negative linear correlation was found between the pressure and the amplitude of the second harmonic, with a maximum relative error of 4.645% observed at a pressure of 1.4 atm. Secondly, the maximum acceleration that the system can withstand was determined to be 7.3 m/s2, as it was not possible to provide a sufficiently low fitting error at higher accelerations. For the combined effects of the pressure and vibration, a dramatic increase in the relative error of amplitude can be observed within the acceleration range of 5.0~6.0 m/s2 while under the pressure conditions of 0.6 atm, 1.0 atm, and 1.4 atm. Moreover, the maximum endurable acceleration decreases with the increase in pressure, which infers that effective measurements can be achieved when the acceleration is below 5 m/s2 within the pressure range of 0~1.4 atm. This suggests that TDLAS combined with WMS possesses a potential for online measuring of CO2 concentrations in flue gas ducts within a certain acceleration range. In urban areas, there has been a recent rise in ground-level ozone. Given its toxicity to both humans and the environment, the investigation of ozone pollution demands attention and should not be overlooked. Therefore, we conducted a study on ozone concentration in three distinct locations within the city of Magurele, Romania. This investigation considered variations in both structure and location during the spring and summer seasons, specifically at a breathing level of 1.5 m above the ground. Our analysis aimed to explore the impact of different locations and meteorological variables on ozone levels. The three measurement points were strategically positioned in diverse settings: within the city, in a forest, and within an industrial area. For these measurements, we used a laser spectroscopy system to determine the system's sensitivity and selectivity and the influence of humidity in the detection of ozone in ambient air, which is a mixture of trace gases and water vapor. During the March–August campaign, the mean values in the three measuring points were 24.45 ± 16.44 ppb, 11.96 ± 3.80 ppb, and 95.01 ± 37.11 ppb. The peak concentrations of ozone were observed during the summer season. A diurnal analysis revealed that the atmospheric ozone levels were higher in the latter part of the day compared to the earlier part. These measurements suggest that the atmospheric temperature plays a significant role in tropospheric ozone production. Additionally, meteorological variables such as wind speed and direction were found to influence the ozone concentration. Remarkably, despite substantial traffic, the ozone levels remained consistently low throughout the entire period within the forested area. High-resolution flame temperature images are essential indicators for evaluating combustion conditions. Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) is an effective combustion diagnostic method. In actual engineering, due to the limitation of line-of-sight (LOS) measurement, TDLAS technology has the problems of small data volume and low dimensionality in measuring combustion fields, which seriously limits the development of TDLAS in combustion diagnosis. This article demonstrates a TDLAS imaging method based on a 64-pixel area array sensor to reconstruct the two-dimensional temperature field of the flame. This paper verifies the robustness of the Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (ART) algorithm through numerical simulation and studies the effects of temperature, concentration, and pressure on the second harmonic intensity based on the HITRAN database. The two-dimensional temperature field of the flame was reconstructed, and reconstruction accuracy was verified using thermocouples. The maximum relative error was 3.71%. Trace gas measurement has a wide range of applications needed in industrial, medical, and environmental protection. With the evolution of time, the demand for real-time, sensitivity, and accuracy of gas detection has been increasingly heightened. Off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) is an effective method for the high-sensitivity detection of trace gases. It uses an integrated cavity with two highly reflective mirrors to provide a long optical path, which guarantees its high sensitivity. However, as the reflectivity of the mirrors increases, the intensity of the output light decreases, and the signal-to-noise ratio decreases. This contradiction makes it difficult to achieve a long optical path and a high signal-to-noise ratio together. To combat this issue, this paper proposes a type of integrated cavity using a direct-injection method. This structure, under equivalent mirror conditions, can maintain an effective absorption optical path very close to the original off-axis integrated cavity while increasing the output light intensity hundreds of times. This article delves into the generation and modulation process of X-rays as high-energy photon sources. Using the principles of classical electrodynamics, this study enables nonrelativistic short pulse lasers to collide with high-energy electrons while the collision center is away from the focal point. This scattering method may produce X-rays with good collimation and monochromaticity, and it progressively approaches inverse Thomson scattering. We studied and analyzed the effects of different electron characteristics and laser parameter settings on the high-energy angular distribution and spectrum of X-rays, especially the setting of the collision center and initial electron velocity, as well as the setting of laser intensity and pulse width. Linear polarized laser pulses with relativistic intensity can generate discrete supercontinuum X-rays with spectral distortion. In addition, the relationships between electronic and laser properties and radiation energy were also studied. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a known greenhouse gas and one of the largest contributors to global warming in the Earth's atmosphere. The remote detection and measurement of CO2 from industrial emissions are not routinely carried out and are typically calculated from the fuel combusted or measured directly within ducted vents. However, these methods are not applicable for the quantification of fugitive emissions of CO2. This work presents the results of remote measurement of CO2 emissions using the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) technique at a wavelength of ~2 µm. The results from the DIAL measurements compare well with simultaneous in-stack measurements, these datasets were plotted against each other and can be described by a linear regression of y (t/h) = 1.04 x − 0.02, suggesting any bias in the DIAL data is likely small. Moreover, using the definition outlined in EN 15267-3 a lower detection limit of 0.12 t/h was estimated for the 2 µm wavelength DIAL data, this is three orders of magnitude lower than the corresponding CO2 detection limit measured by NPL in the 1.5 µm wavelength region. Generally, olive oil possesses natural protection against oxidation due to antioxidant compounds such as phenols and tocopherols. However, in the case of refined olive oil, the refining process unavoidably reduces the presence of these compounds. Considering these considerations, the objective of this study was to address the issues related to the "tightness" of the cap used for packaging oil in SALOV, aiming to extend the product's shelf life. The oil under investigation was packaged in 250 mL transparent glass bottles, each filled with either argon or air. Subsequently, the samples were divided into three groups: one group sealed with a conventional screw cap, another covered with a special protective bag, and a third one sealed with a wax cover directly on the cap. The storage period varied, during which the atmospheric conditions were monitored daily through both destructive and non-destructive analyses. The preliminary results indicate that alternative preservation techniques, such as the use of argon, sealing wax, and protective bags, can effectively enhance the shelf life of the oil and maintain its quality (reduce oxidation, preserve phenolic compounds, and reduce the degradation of pigments). Further research and development in this area could lead to the production of high-quality extra virgin olive oils with extended shelf life and improved sensory and nutritional properties. Yttrium scandate crystals doped by Nd3+ and Tm3+ ions have been successfully grown in the form of fibers using the laser-heated pedestal growth (LHPG) technique. The selective laser spectroscopy methods have identified and distinguished three distinct types of optically active centers associated with Nd3+ and Tm3+ ions. The substitution of Y3+ and Sc3+ for rare-earth ions in the C2 structural site leads to the formation of two distinct basic long-time centers. In Nd3+:YScO3, another type of center (a short-lifetime one) is formed known as the Nd3+–Nd3+ aggregate pair. This center arises from the substitution of Y3+ or Sc3+ for Nd3+ cation in the adjacent MO6 polyhedra that share an edge. In Tm3+:YScO3, the third optical center is formed as a result of the substitution of Y3+ or Sc3+ for Tm3+ in the MO6 octahedra with the C3i site symmetry. The fluorescence decay lifetimes of Nd3+ and Tm3+ ions in the YScO3 crystal structure have been accurately measured and estimated. A Stark level diagram illustrating the splitting of 4F3/2, 4I11/2, and 4I9/2 multiplets of Nd3+ ions has been constructed to show features of the active optical centers with the C2 site symmetry. Returning extraterrestrial samples to Earth has become essential for future deep space exploration. Achieving a comprehensive evaluation of the physical and chemical properties of samples with minimal damage is key to analyzing extraterrestrial samples in the future, as well as to the future sampling and returning of heterogeneous solid samples. This article aims to reconstruct the three-dimensional internal structure of high-contrast objects, select sections of interest through internal structure and detail features, and then analyze the physical and chemical properties of the samples based on laser spectroscopy technology. This paper proposes a strategy based on Raman mapping and X-ray phase-contrast imaging technology to reconstruct the three-dimensional internal structure of a heterogeneous solid sample and detect the substance composition of the region of interest. This study takes meteorite samples as an example and uses X-ray phase-contrast imaging technology to distinguish and reconstruct the spatial distribution of different components in the meteorite, providing a three-dimensional visualization reference with a high spatial resolution for the spatial positioning of the region of interest. Raman spectroscopy, in combination with LIBS, was used to further identify the meteorite as pallasite and to achieve the spectral image fusion of high spatial and high spectral resolutions. The experimental results show that the unknown meteorite's three-dimensional structure and its components' spatial distribution can be evaluated based on Raman mapping combined with X-ray phase-contrast imaging technology. Modulated laser absorption spectroscopy is an ideal technique for evaluating flow-field parameters and determining flow-field quality by measuring the atoms dissociated in high-temperature environments. However, to obtain the absolute number density of atoms in the flow field, it is necessary to compare the measured modulated absorption spectroscopy signal with a known atomic concentration and establish a quantitative relationship through concentration calibration. Nevertheless, it remains a challenging task to prepare transient atomic samples with known concentrations that meet the calibration requirements. This study utilized the alternating-current glow discharge technique to dissociate oxygen in the air flow, resulting in the continuous generation of oxygen atoms. The absolute number densities of the generated oxygen atoms were determined by measuring the direct absorption spectra of centered on 777 nm for oxygen atoms. The number densities of the generated atoms were finely tuned by adjusting the discharge parameters. Throughout the 120-min continuous operation of the discharge system, the concentration of excited-state oxygen atoms remained stable within the range of (2.51 ± 0.02) × 108 cm−3, demonstrating the remarkable stability of the transient atomic concentration generated by the glow discharge plasma. Laser absorption spectroscopy tomography is an effective combustion diagnostic method for obtaining simultaneous two-dimensional distribution measurements of temperature and gas molar concentrations. For the reconstruction process of complex combustion flames, a new algorithm named 'multi-iterative adaptive optimization regularization' (MIARO) is proposed. This algorithm is a further development of another algorithm known as the 'modified adaptive algebraic reconstruction technique' (MAART) with the improvement of the initial value and adaptive regularization parameter selections. In MIARO, the problem of the MAART's initial value sensitivity is compensated for, and in addition, reconstruction parameters are also introduced into the regularization so that both the quality of reconstruction and the convergence of regularization are guaranteed. In butane burner experiments, an average relative error of 1.82% was achieved with MIARO, compared to 2.44% with MAART, which is a significant reduction of 25.1%. The simulation and experimental results clearly demonstrate that the MIARO algorithm can be used to reconstruct dynamic combustion fields and eliminate boundary artifacts with improved measurement accuracy and robustness. The jadeite jade in Guatemala exerts remarkable commercial quality, which has attracted wide attention. Guatemalan jadeite jade displays a rich variety of colors; however, the color formation of this jadeite jade has not been systematically investigated to date. In this paper, we study different colors of jade samples to trace the compositions and color-causing mechanisms through petrography, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), laser Raman spectroscopy (LRS), and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), as well as electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). The results show that jadeite and omphacite are the main mineral compositions of Guatemalan jadeite jade, together with minor albite and other impurities. The color of Guatemala jadeite jade is mainly related to Cr3+, Fe2+, and Fe3+, of which a small amount of Cr3+ causes the jadeite jade to be emerald green. Moreover, 1~2% FeO contents can lead to the blue or gray color of the samples, while the Fe3+ makes the sample dark green. The green color of some Cr3+-free jadeite is caused by the electron transition between bands of Fe3+, and the green color is related to the iron content. Moreover, the chemical composition analysis shows that some metallic elements existed in Guatemalan jadeite jade, such as Ca, Ti, Al, Si, Ni, Fe, Mn, Cr, Na, Mg, and Sr, and some trace elements were lost or unevenly distributed, which may lead to the heterogeneity of the color of the samples. Laser gas sensors with small volume and light weight are in high demand in the aerospace industry. To address this, a coin-sized oxygen (O2) sensor has been successfully developed based on a small toroidal absorption cell design. The absorption cell integrates a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and photodetector into a compact unit, measuring 90 × 40 × 20 mm and weighing 75.16 g. Tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) is used to obtain the O2 spectral line at 763 nm. For further improving the sensitivity and robustness of the sensor, wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS) is utilized for the measurement. The obtained linear correlation coefficient is 0.9994. Based on Allen variance analysis, the sensor achieves an impressive minimum detection limit of 0.06% for oxygen concentration at an integration time of 318 s. The pressure-dependent relationship has been validated by accounting for the pressure factor in data processing. To affirm its efficacy, the laser spectrometer underwent continuous atmospheric O2 measurement for 24 h, showcasing its stability and robustness. Among the many commonly encountered hazards, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) remain the primary threat to military and civilian personnel due to the ease of their production and the widespread availability of their raw materials and precursors. Identifying traces of potential precursors is the first step in developing appropriate control measures. An interesting approach is to identify the precursors that are released around the site as they are handled and transformed into the final IEDs. CO2 laser photoacoustic spectroscopy can offer the spectral characterization of a number of explosives-related compounds without sample preparation. Benzene, toluene, acetone, and ethylene glycol absorption spectra were determined in the IR region between 9.2 and 10.8 µm. Trustworthy technology for the monitoring of fugitive methane emissions is an indispensable component for low−carbon emission reduction and safe production in oil and gas infrastructure. A miniaturization and low-cost methane remote monitoring prototype based on near-infrared laser absorption spectroscopy is developed to retrieve the path−integral concentration by employing the harmonic conjoint analysis method for the backscattered echo signals from a distant non-cooperative target. A distorted harmonic template matching (DHTM) algorithm is proposed based on wavelength modulation spectroscopy with second harmonic normalized via the first harmonic (WMS−2f/1f) method, which suppresses the output concentration fluctuation caused by open path monitoring with non-cooperative target and avoids the issue of false alarms during the detection process without target gas. The reliability of the WMS−2f/1f−DHTM algorithm is verified by calibration and dynamic experiments. The results showed that this algorithm avoids the dilemma of false alarms in the absence of gas compared to the conventional WMS−2f/1f algorithm, while the root mean square error (RMSE) of the concentration inversion with a detection distance of 20 m is reduced by 57.6% compared to direct absorption spectroscopy (DAS) algorithm. And the minimum detection limit of system is 3.79 ppm·m. World health is increasingly threatened by the growing number of spice-related food hazards. Further development of reliable methods for rapid, non-targeted identification of counterfeit ingredients within the supply chain is needed. ENEA has developed a portable, user-friendly photoacoustic laser system for food fraud detection, based on a quantum cascade laser and multivariate calibration. Following a study on the authenticity of saffron, the instrument was challenged with a more elusive adulterant, olive leaves in oregano. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas, N2O) is a relevant greenhouse gas. Agriculture contributes significantly to its emissions. As nitrogen fertilization has been identified as one of the main sources of N2O, controlled application and reduction of the amount of fertilizer adapted to crop demand is essential to reduce N2O emissions. This requires detailed studies of the local distribution of the N2O emission fluxes on different croplands. Consequently, frequent spatially resolved field measurements of N2O concentrations are needed. A precision in the ppb range close to the ambient N2O level of 333 ppb is necessary. Tunable laser absorption spectroscopy using quantum-cascade lasers (QCL) as a light source is an established technique for the measurement of N2O traces. We present the development and validation of a compact portable setup for on-site measurement of N2O emissions from the soil. The setup differs from previous solutions by using an interband cascade laser (ICL), which has significantly lower power consumption compared to a QCL. The portable measurement setup allows N2O emission fluxes to be determined with a precision of 3.5% with a measuring duration of 10 min. The developed system enables the detection of increased N2O emissions because of the fertilization of fields. High N2O emission fluxes are indicators of the overfertilization of the field. Directly after fertilization, N2O fluxes between 2.9 and 5.3 µL m−2 min−1 depending on the gas acquisition site are measured during the field tests. Over time, the fluxes decrease. The obtained results compare well with data from more precise but also more complex and maintenance-intensive instruments for atmospheric research. With this system, the soil moisture as well as the air humidity and air temperature are recorded. Strong influences on N2O fluxes by soil moisture were observed. The presented measurement system is a contribution to the establishment of mobile N2O screening systems that are robust in the field and suitable for comprehensive and routine detection of N2O emissions from soil. With the increasing trend in the global average temperature, the UK's water industry has committed to achieve Net Zero by 2030 and part of this includes cutting CH4 emissions from sludge treatment facilities. Currently, emissions are estimated following the carbon accounting workbook guidelines and using default emission factors. However, this method might not be a true representation of emissions as these vary depending on many factors. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has proved cost effective for environmental monitoring tasks requiring high spatial resolution information. Within the context of CH4 emissions and in the last decade, the technology has been curtailed by sensor weight and size. Recent advances in sensor technology have enabled the development of a fit-for purpose UAV CH4 sensor (U10) which uses Tuneable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy. This study intends to develop a framework for CH4 data collection strategies from sludge treatment centres using UAV-U10 technology and asset level CH4 enhancement estimations based on geostatistical interpolation techniques and the mass balance approach. The analysis of greenhouse gas emission characteristics on urban roads is of great significance for understanding the sources and sinks of urban greenhouse gases and their changing patterns. Based on tunable diode laser derivative absorption spectroscopy technology, which features high resolution, high sensitivity, and fast response, a vehicle-mounted system capable of simultaneously detecting CO2 and CH4 has been developed. The system has a response time of 0.38 s, with detection sensitivities of 5 ppb for CH4 and 0.2 ppm for CO2, power consumption of approximately 4.8 W, a weight of less than 3 kg, and dimensions of 255 mm × 275 mm × 85 mm. Using this system, monitoring campaigns were conducted on the same road in Beijing, running north–south, during different time periods in April and June 2023. The results show that there is little correlation between changes in CO2 and CH4 concentrations on the road, and these gas concentrations exhibit different influencing factors and spatiotemporal characteristics. The CO2 concentration on the road is primarily related to the degree of traffic congestion and does not exhibit significant seasonal variations. The average CO2 concentration measured on the road is much higher than the global average CO2 concentration during the same period. On the other hand, the CH4 concentration on the road is not strongly correlated with traffic congestion but is closely related to the leakage of methane from specific emission wells or covers. The CH4 concentration is higher in the morning, gradually decreases as the sun rises, and then increases again after sunset. The CH4 concentration measured at night in June is significantly lower than that in April, reflecting some seasonal variation. The CH4 concentration on the Beijing urban road is slightly higher than the global average CH4 concentration during the same period. The vehicle-mounted experiments verified the feasibility of using this self-developed system for vehicle-mounted detection of greenhouse gas concentrations on urban roads. A concise, efficient continuous-wave eye-safe Nd:GdVO4/KGW Raman laser at 1525 nm is here demonstrated. A Nd:GdVO4 crystal was used to produce the fundamental field at 1341 nm and a KGW crystal generated the intracavity Stokes field at 1525 nm via wavelength conversion of stimulated Raman scattering. The output power of the Stokes field at 1525 nm could achieve 2.1 W under the pump power of 30 W. Furthermore, two different lithium triborate (LBO) crystals with critical phase matching were exploited to obtain deep-red emission at 714 nm via the intracavity sum frequency generation of 1341 and 1525 nm waves. One cutting angle was in the XY plane and the other was in the XZ plane. The empirical thermo-optical coefficients for the LBO crystal were exploited to systematically analyze the critical phase matching conditions. Numerical results revealed that the type-I phase matching angle in the XY plane was near θ = 90° and ϕ = 3.3° at room temperature, whereas the type-I phase matching angle in the XZ plane was near θ = 86.3° and ϕ = 0° at a temperature around 47 °C. The numerical values for the optimal temperatures for the two different cutting angles were found to be in good agreement with experimental results. At the pump power of 30 W, the output power at 714 nm was approximately 2.9 W by using the LBO crystal with the cutting angle in the XY plane. On the other hand, the maximum output power at 714 nm could be up to 3.2 W under the pump power of 30 W by using the cutting angle in the XZ plane. Furthermore, the linewidth of the SFG emission was confirmed to be nearly the same for the two different cutting angles. The overall linewidth could be narrower than 0.2 nm. The Jiadi gold deposit, situated in the Southwestern region of Guizhou, is a large-scale, recently discovered, basalt-hosted, and fine-grained disseminated gold deposit. This study has unveiled that the tectonic deformation of the Jiadi gold deposit can be categorized into four stages: the Late Paleozoic crustal uplift and brittle deformation (D1-deformation) stage; the Early Yanshanian NW-trending compressive ductile deformation (D2-deformation) stage; the Late Yanshanian NS-trending strike-slip fault (D3-deformation) stage; and the Himalayan EW-trending nappe structure (D4-deformation) stage. The outcomes of the C-O isotope analysis revealed that the fluid responsible for ore formation exhibits the attributes of magmatic water blended with meteoric water, and the metallogenic constituents primarily originate from a deep source. The formation of the Jiadi gold deposit occurred during the D2-deformation stage and extended to the D3-deformation stage. The D2-deformation stage induced hydrothermal activity and rock devolatilization, leading to the generation of CO2-rich and low-salinity fluids. The D3-deformation stage, which is intimately associated with mineralization, can be classified into three stages: the pyrite stage; the smoky quartz stage; and the sulfide stage. The findings obtained from laser Raman spectroscopy indicate that the inclusions typically comprise CO2, CH4, N2, and SO2. These deep fluids ascended along the fault to the interlayer fracture zone during the D3-deformation stage. The alteration of the geochemical environment was accompanied by fluid immiscibility or boiling, resulting in the rapid precipitation of metallogenic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For the realization of an optical nuclear clock, the first isomeric excited state of thorium-229 (229mTh) is currently the only candidate due to its exceptionally low-lying excitation energy ( 8.338 ± 0.024 eV). Such a nuclear clock holds promise not only to be a very precise metrological device but also to extend the knowledge of fundamental physics studies, such as dark matter research or variations in fundamental constants. Considerable progress was achieved in recent years in characterizing 229mTh from its first direct identification in 2016 to the only recent observation of the long-sought-after radiative decay channel. So far, nuclear resonance as the crucial parameter of a nuclear frequency standard has not yet been determined with laser-spectroscopic precision. To determine another yet unknown basic property of the thorium isomer and to further specify the linewidth of its ground-state transition, a measurement of the ionic lifetime of the isomer is in preparation. Theory and experimental investigations predict the lifetime to be 103–104 s. To precisely target this property using hyperfine structure spectroscopy, an experimental setup is currently being commissioned at LMU Munich. It is based on a cryogenic Paul trap providing long-enough storage times for 229mTh ions, that will be sympathetically cooled with 88Sr+. Infrared laser photo-acoustic spectroscopy provides very high sensitivity of a gas sample analysis when high-power tunable laser radiation sources and resonant photo-acoustic detectors (PADs) are used. In the resonant PAD, the acoustic signal generated by absorbed laser radiation in a measurement chamber is amplified proportionally to a Q-factor of the acoustic resonator. But, compact tunable high-power lasers (with power above 100 mW) still are not widely spread in the terahertz spectral range. One of the ways to achieve an acceptable sensitivity of terahertz photo-acoustic spectroscopy is using PADs with a very high Q-factor. The latter can be achieved using PAD with a quartz tuning fork. Herein, we report the synthetic access to a set of π-extended BODIPYs featuring a penta-arylated (phenyl and/or thiophene) dipyrrin framework. We take advantage of the full chemoselective control of 8-methylthio-2,3,5,6-tetrabromoBODIPY when we conduct the Liebeskind–Srogl cross-coupling (LSCC) to functionalize exclusively the meso-position, followed by the tetra-Suzuki reaction to arylate the halogenated sites. All these laser dyes display absorption and emission bands in the red edge of the visible spectrum reaching the near-infrared with thiophene functionalization. The emission efficiency, both fluorescence and laser, of the polyphenylBODIPYs can be enhanced upon decoration of the peripheral phenyls with electron donor/acceptor groups at para positions. Alternatively, the polythiopheneBODIPYs show an astonishing laser performance despite the charge transfer character of the emitting state. Therefore, these BODIPYs are suitable as a palette of stable and bright laser sources covering the spectral region from 610 nm to 750 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy is used to measure the concentration of gas, the second harmonic signal of demodulation is changed due to the influence of temperature change, and the error in concentration measurement is great. In order to solve the problem of large errors in atmospheric quality monitoring equipment due to the change in gas temperature, this paper, based on the tunable semiconductor laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) theory, measured methane gas with 1000 ppm standard gas as the target and selected the central absorption wavelength of 1650 nm. The influence of temperature change on gas injection and the laser absorption spectrometer is studied. A temperature compensation algorithm based on an empirical formula is designed. Firstly, by analyzing the variable temperature test data of the detection module, it is proposed to divide the influence factors of temperature into two parts and study the influence of injection gas temperature and detector temperature, respectively. Secondly, the temperature compensation is carried out by polynomial fitting the concentration inversion results. Finally, according to the compensation effect, a scheme was proposed to compensate the measured gas by applying a constant temperature treatment to the detector at 313 K. After compensation, the average error of the system measurement is reduced from 8.4% to 1.08% when the gas temperature changes from 233 K to 343 K, which effectively reduces the deviation of the measured value caused by the abrupt temperature change. It further improves the accuracy and reliability of measuring gas concentration when gas inspection equipment is working outdoors and has strong practicability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
