Saline soils limit plant growth due to high salinity. Straw returning has proven effective in enhancing soil adaptability and agricultural stability on saline lands. This study evaluates the effects of different straw-returning methods—straw mulching (SM), straw incorporation (SI), and straw biochar (BC)—on soil nutrients, water dynamics, and salinity in a barley–cotton rotation system using field box experiments. SM improved soil water retention during barley's jointing and heading stages, while SI was more effective in its filling and maturation stages. BC showed lesser water storage capacity. During cotton's growth, SI enhanced early-stage water retention, and SM benefited the flowering and boll opening stages. Grey relational analysis pinpointed significant water relationships at 10 cm and 20 cm soil depths, with SM regulating water across layers. SM and BC notably reduced soil conductivity, primarily within the top 20 cm, and their effectiveness decreased with depth. SI significantly lowered soil conductivity at barley's jointing stage. SM effectively reduced salinity at 10 cm and 20 cm soil depths, whereas BC decreased soil conductivity throughout barley's jointing, filling, and heading stages. For cotton, SI lowered soil conductivity at the seedling and boll opening stages. SM consistently reduced salinity across all stages, and BC decreased conductivity in the top 30 cm of soil during all growth stages. Both SM and BC significantly enhanced the total nutrient availability for barley and cotton, especially improving soil organic carbon and available potassium, with BC showing notable improvements. At barley's heading stage, SI maximized dry matter accumulation, while SM boosted accumulation in leaves, stems, and spikes during the filling and maturation stages. Straw returning increased barley yield, particularly with SM and BC, and improved water use efficiency by 11.60% and 5.74%, respectively. For cotton, straw returning significantly boosted yield and water use efficiency, especially with SI and SM treatments, enhancing the total bolls and yield. In conclusion, straw returning effectively improves saline soils, enhances fertility, boosts crop yields, and supports sustainable agriculture. These results provide a robust scientific foundation for adopting efficient soil improvement strategies on saline lands, with significant theoretical and practical implications for increasing agricultural productivity and crop resilience to salt stress. Plexiform lesions are a hallmark of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in humans and are proposed to stem from dysfunctional angioblasts. Broiler chickens (Gallus gallus) are highly susceptible to PAH, with plexiform-like lesions observed in newly hatched individuals. Here, we reported the emergence of plexiform-like lesions in the embryonic lungs of broiler chickens. Lung samples were collected from broiler chickens at embryonic day 20 (E20), hatch, and one-day-old, with PAH-resistant layer chickens as controls. Plexiform lesions consisting of CD133+/vascular endothelial growth factor receptor type-2 (VEGFR-2)+ angioblasts were exclusively observed in broiler embryos and sporadically in layer embryos. Distinct gene profiles of angiogenic factors were observed between the two strains, with impaired VEGF-A/VEGFR-2 signaling correlating with lesion development and reduced arteriogenesis. Pharmaceutical inhibition of VEGFR-2 resulted in enhanced lesion development in layer embryos. Moreover, broiler embryonic lungs displayed increased activation of HIF-1α and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), indicating a hypoxic state. Remarkably, we found a negative correlation between lung Nrf2 activation and VEGF-A and VEGFR-2 expression. In vitro studies indicated that Nrf2 overactivation restricted VEGF signaling in endothelial progenitor cells. Currently, massive Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images acquired from numerous SAR satellites have been widely utilized in various fields, and image mosaicking technology provides important support and assistance for these applications. The traditional mosaic method selects specific SAR images that can cover the region of interest (ROI) from redundant data to produce "One Map". However, an SAR image suffers from severe geometric distortion, especially in mountainous areas, which inevitably reduces the utilization of mosaic image. Therefore, a multi-view data-based layover information compensation (MDLIC) method for SAR image mosaic is proposed, aiming to take full advantage of multi-view data to compensate for the missing information in the layover area of the SAR image. This is performed to improve the information content of the mosaic image and realize efficient thematic information extraction and analysis. First, the calculation of the object-space extent of all images and the division of object-space grid are completed on the basis of geometric and radiometric preprocessing. Then, according to the transformation relationship between the object-space and the image-space, the sampling rate image of each image corresponding to the object-space grid is generated, which determines the layover area and the layover degree in each image. Finally, the information compensation strategy is implemented in accordance with the sampling rate image to realize the compensation of the layover information. The feasibility and effectiveness of the MDLIC method are verified by using multiple SAR images from the Chinese Gaofen-3 01 satellite as datasets for experiments. The experimental results indicate that the MDLIC method can obtain mosaic images with richer information compared with the traditional method, while still providing satisfactory results. To investigate the comprehensive effects of the Al and Zr element contents on the microstructure evolution of the AlNbTiVZr series light-weight refractory high entropy alloys (HEAs), five samples were studied. Samples with different compositions were designated Al1.5NbTiVZr, Al1.5NbTiVZr0.5, AlNbTiVZr, AlNbTiVZr0.5, and Al0.5NbTiVZr0.5. The results demonstrated that the actual density of the studied HEA samples ranged from 5.291 to 5.826 g·cm−3. The microstructure of these HEAs contains a solid solution phase with a BCC structure and a Laves phase. The Laves phase was further identified as the ZrAlV intermetallic compound by TEM observations. The microstructure of the AlNbTiVZr series HEAs was affected by both the Al and Zr element contents, whereas the Zr element showed a more dominant effect due to Zr atoms occupying the core position of the ZrAlV Laves phase (C14 structure). Therefore, the as-cast Al0.5NbTiVZr0.5 sample exhibits the best room temperature compression property with a compression strength (σp) of 1783 MPa and an engineering strain of 28.8% due to having the lowest ZrAlV intermetallic compound area fraction (0.7%), as characterized by the EBSD technique. GNSS spoofing interference utilizes falsified navigation signals to launch attacks on GNSS systems, posing a significant threat to applications that rely on GNSS signals for positioning, navigation, and time services. Therefore, achieving effective localization of the sources causing spoofing interference is crucial in ensuring the secure operation of GNSS. This article proposes a method for locating GNSS spoofing interference sources using a moving array antenna. Firstly, the proposed method utilizes the inherent characteristics of the double-differenced carrier phase from the deception signals received by the array antenna to effectively extract the spoofing signals. Subsequently, by moving the antenna array, the original carrier phase single-difference data of multiple observation points for deception signals are fused to provide a cost function for direct localization of spoofing interference, and a solution method for the cost function is designed. The proposed method addresses the challenge of extracting and localizing GNSS spoofing interference weak signals, effectively avoiding the data correlation of traditional two-step methods for DOA estimation parameters and ensuring the location accuracy of spoofing interference and the robustness of the method. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been validated through simulation experiments, and its adaptability to factors such as errors in carrier phase measurements has been examined. The method exhibits strong applicability and is well-suited for the hardware platform of the GNSS nulling antenna, thereby enabling it to possess simultaneous capabilities in both anti-interference and spoofing interference localization. Straw residual retention is an emerging and promoted practice in rain-fed northwest China, but its effect on wheat photosynthetic characteristics, the utilization of water and nitrogen, and reactive nitrogen losses is poorly understood. A two-year consecutive field experiment was conducted to investigate the impacts of residual incorporation into soil and nitrogen application on wheat nitrogen and water utilization, yield and nitrogen losses during 2018–2020. The split-plot design of two tillage systems [conventional tillage (CT), and straw residue incorporated into soil (SR)] and three nitrogen rates [0 kg ha−1 (N0), 144 kg ha−1 (N144), 180 kg ha−1 (N180)] was implemented. Our results demonstrated that compared to CT, SR significantly influenced several key metrics. Compared with CT, SR increased the wheat photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), leaf area index (LAI), leaf total chlorophyll (Chl-total), glutamine synthetase (GS) and nitrate reductase (NR) by an average of 5.38%, 12.75%, 8.21%, 5.79%, 16.21% and 20.08%, respectively (p < 0.05). In addition, SR increased the wheat grain yield and nitrogen uptake accumulation (NUA), evapotranspiration (ET), precipitation storage efficiency (PSE), and mineral nitrogen residual after harvest (except for SR-N180 in 2019–2020), but decreased the apparent nitrogen recovery when compared with CT. However, there was an insignificant difference in the ammonia (NH3) volatilization and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions of SR and CT. With an increase in the N-fertilization rate, the Pn and Tr, NH3 volatilization, N2O emission, mineral nitrogen residual (except for SR-N180 in 2019–2020), LAI, Chl-total (except for SR-N180 and CT-N180 in 2018–2019), GS, NR, grain yield, WUE, and NUA increased significantly; however, the ET, PSE, apparent nitrogen recovery (ANR), and nitrogen harvest index (NHI) decreased significantly. Furthermore, the differences between N144 and N180 in terms of the photosynthetic characteristics of wheat, the utilization of water and nitrogen, and yield were not significant. Overall, straw retention with N144 could be recommended as a resource-saving and environment-friendly management practice in a rain-fed winter wheat–fallow cropping system in northwest China. Multiple unmanned aerial vehicle (multi-UAV) systems have gained significant attention in applications, such as aerial surveillance and search and rescue missions. With the recent development of state-of-the-art multiagent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms, it is possible to train multi-UAV systems in collaborative and competitive environments. However, the inherent vulnerabilities of multiagent systems pose significant privacy and security risks when deploying general and conventional MARL algorithms. The presence of even a single Byzantine adversary within the system can severely degrade the learning performance of UAV agents. This work proposes a Byzantine-resilient MARL algorithm that leverages a combination of geometric median consensus and a robust state update model to mitigate, or even eliminate, the influence of Byzantine attacks. To validate its effectiveness and feasibility, the authors include a multi-UAV threat model, provide a guarantee of robustness, and investigate key attack parameters for multiple UAV navigation scenarios. Results from the experiments show that the average rewards during a Byzantine attack increased by up to 60% for the cooperative navigation scenario compared with conventional MARL techniques. The learning rewards generated by the baseline algorithms could not converge during training under these attacks, while the proposed method effectively converged to an optimal solution, proving its viability and correctness. Coxsackievirus A10 (CV-A10) is a prevailing causative agent of hand–foot–mouth disease, necessitating the isolation and adaptation of appropriate strains in cells allowed for human vaccine development. In this study, amino acid sequences of CV-A10 strains with different cell tropism on RD and Vero cells were compared. Various amino acids on the structural and non-structural proteins related to cell tropism were identified. The reverse genetic systems of several CV-A10 strains with RD+/Vero− and RD+/Vero+ cell tropism were developed, and a set of CV-A10 recombinants were produced. The binding, entry, uncoating, and proliferation steps in the life cycle of these viruses were evaluated. P1 replacement of CV-A10 strains with different cell tropism revealed the pivotal role of the structural proteins in cell tropism. Further, seven amino acid substitutions in VP2 and VP1 were introduced to further investigate their roles played in cell tropism. These mutations cooperated in the growth of CV-A10 in Vero cells. Particularly, the valine to isoleucine mutation at the position VP1-236 (V1236I) was found to significantly restrict viral uncoating in Vero cells. Co-immunoprecipitation assays showed that the release of viral RNA from the KREMEN1 receptor-binding virions was restricted in r0195-V1236I compared with the parental strain r0195 (a RD+/Vero+ strain). Overall, this study highlights the dominant effect of structural proteins in CV-A10 adaption in Vero cells and the importance of V1236 in viral uncoating, providing a foundation for the mechanism study of CV-A10 cell tropism, and facilitating the development of vaccine candidates. Doublecortin-like kinase 1 (DCLK1) is a prominent kinase involved in carcinogenesis, serving as a diagnostic marker for early cancer detection and prevention, as well as a target for cancer therapy. Extensive research efforts have been dedicated to understanding its role in cancer development and designing selective inhibitors. In our previous work, we successfully determined the crystal structure of DCLK1 while it was bound to its autoinhibitory domain (AID) at the active site. By analyzing this structure, we were able to uncover the intricate molecular mechanisms behind specific cancer-causing mutations in DCLK1. Utilizing molecular dynamics simulations, we discovered that these mutations disrupt the smooth assembly of the AID, particularly affecting the R2 helix, into the kinase domain (KD). This disruption leads to the exposure of the D533 residue of the DFG (Asp-Phe-Gly) motif in the KD, either through steric hindrance, the rearrangement of electrostatic interactions, or the disruption of local structures in the AID. With these molecular insights, we conducted a screening process to identify potential small-molecule inhibitors that could bind to DCLK1 through an alternative binding mode. To assess the binding affinity of these inhibitors to the KD of DCLK1, we performed calculations on their binding energy and conducted SPR experiments. Direct power generation near gas fields offers numerous benefits, including optimized economic efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Moreover, building on-site greenhouses emerges as a promising approach to further minimize carbon emissions and residual heat, greatly promoting resource utilization. However, such power plants generally have access to a weak grid due to their remote locations, and they also contain nonlinear local loads, such as the grow lights in the greenhouses. Consequently, the generation system is susceptible to power quality issues, manifested in overvoltage and harmonics. To address these issues, a smart back-to-back converter is employed to interconnect the gas turbine generator and the utility grid. This smart converter not only enhances power quality but also offers potential ancillary services that contribute to the dynamics of the gas generation system, such as damping low-frequency oscillation among parallel-connected generators. In this paper, three control configurations for the back-to-back converter are developed, enabling the coordinated regulation of exported active power, AC voltage, and DC-link voltage in either a grid-following or grid-forming manner. Furthermore, comparative studies are conducted to provide guidelines for selecting an appropriate control strategy that ensures stable operation under various short circuit ratios. A practical gas cogeneration system is chosen to evaluate the performance of the back-to-back converter, and real-time simulations based on RT-LAB are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the methodology. In order to promote the improvement of the rural living environment, the treatment of rural domestic sewage has attracted much attention in China. Meanwhile, the rural regions' sewage discharge standards are becoming increasingly stringent. However, the standard compliance rate of total phosphorus (TP) is very low, and TP has become the main limiting pollutant for the water pollutants discharge standards of rural domestic sewage treatment facilities. In this study, waste eggshell (E) was employed as a calcium source, and waste peanut shell (C) was employed as a carbon source to prepare calcium-modified biochar adsorbent materials (E-C). The resulting E-C adsorbent materials demonstrated efficient phosphate (P) adsorption from aqueous solutions over the initial pH range of 6–9 and had adsorption selectivity. At an eggshell and peanut shell mass ratio of 1:1 and a pyrolysis temperature of 800 °C, the experimental maximum adsorption capacity was 191.1 mg/g. The pseudo second-order model and Langmuir model were best at describing the adsorption process. The dominant sorption mechanism for P is that Ca(OH)2 is loaded on biochar with P to form Ca5(PO4)3OH precipitate. E-C was found to be very effective for the treatment of rural domestic sewage. The removal rate of TP in rural domestic sewage was 91–95.9%. After adsorption treatment, the discharge of TP in rural sewage met the second-grade (TP < 3 mg/L) and even first-grade (TP < 2 mg/L). Simple Summary: Phytoplasma are wall-less phytopathogens that invade hundreds of plant species, causing symptoms, including witches' broom, phyllody, and leaf yellowing. The difficulty in phytoplasma artificial cultivation makes research on the interactions of phytoplasma–plant–vector insects lag behind the research on interactions of other phytopathogen–plant–vector insects. The spread of phytoplasma heavily relies on piercing–sucking insects. In this study, the feeding behavior of the leafhopper Hishimonus hamatus Kuoh fed on healthy Chinese jujube leaves and on jujube witches' broom (JWB) leaves was investigated to find whether JWB infection changed the feeding behavior or preference of H. hamatus. Then, we performed a metabolomic analysis to inspect the metabolite composition of healthy and JWB-infected jujube leaves and tried to explain why the leafhopper tended to feed on JWB-infected leaves. We found that more small-molecular carbohydrates, free amino acids, and free fatty acids and less lignans, coumarins and triterpenoids were accumulated in JWB-infected leaves, which might be related to more vector leafhopper feeding with a higher frequency. Hishimonus hamatus Kuoh is a leafhopper species native to China that feeds on Chinese jujube leaves. This leafhopper species has been verified to transmit jujube witches' broom (JWB) disease, caused by phytoplasma, a fatal plant pathogen, which belongs to the phytoplasma subgroup 16SrV-B. The transmission of JWB phytoplasma largely relies on the feeding behavior of piercing–sucking leafhoppers. However, the specific mechanisms behind how and why the infection of JWB influences the feeding behavior of these leafhoppers are not fully understood. To address this, a study was conducted to compare the feeding patterns of H. hamatus when feeding JWB-infested jujube leaves to healthy leaves using the electrical penetration graph (EPG) technique. Then, a widely targeted metabolome analysis was performed to identify differences in the metabolite composition of JWB-infected jujube leaves and that of healthy jujube leaves. The results of EPG analyses revealed that when feeding on JWB-infected jujube leaves, H. hamatus exhibited an increased frequency of phloem ingestion and spent longer in the phloem feeding phase compared to when feeding on healthy leaves. In addition, the results of metabolomic analyses showed that JWB-infected leaves accumulated higher levels of small-molecular carbohydrates, free amino acids, and free fatty acids, as well as lower levels of lignans, coumarins and triterpenoids compared to healthy leaves. The above results indicated that the H. hamatus preferentially fed on the phloem of infected leaves, which seems to be linked to the transmission of the JWB phytoplasma. Avian reovirus (ARV) infections, characterized by severe arthritis, tenosynovitis, pericarditis, and poor weight gain, have become increasingly serious in recent years. The economic impact is significant as it causes growth inhibition and immunosuppression. Some commercial poultry in China have been widely vaccinated with available ARV vaccines; however, infections continue to occur even after vaccination. This study aimed to isolate a novel variant, ARV-SD19/11103, from the joint tissues of infected broiler chickens vaccinated with ARV vaccines in Shandong Province. Genetic evolution analysis of the major protective antigen σC gene in ARVs showed that ARV-SD19/11103 was located in the genotype cluster I but not in the same sub-cluster as the S1133 vaccine strain. The amino acid sequence similarity between SD19/11103 and vaccine strains S1133, 1733, and 2408 was <80%. After analyzing the amino acid sequences of the σC protein, 33 amino acid differences were found between the new variant isolate and the vaccine strains. This novel variant showed obvious pathogenicity in specific pathogen-free chicken embryos and chicks and could cause serious disease in chickens vaccinated with commercially available ARV vaccines. Cross-neutralization experiments further demonstrated a significant antigenic difference between the novel variant and genotype cluster I ARV strains. The novel variant strain isolated in this study provides an important theoretical basis for understanding the prevalence and genetic evolutionary characteristics of ARV variant strains in our country. The implementation of the "Returning Farmland to Forest" project in the loess hilly region of China has led to the establishment of large-scale economic forests, which have become the dominant industry driving local economic development. However, the region faces challenges such as drought, water shortages, and an uneven distribution of precipitation, which have a severe impact on the growth of economic forests, including jujube trees. Water stress significantly reduces yield and efficiency, posing a threat to the sustainable and healthy development of jujube ecological and economic forests. Therefore, this study aimed to address these issues by implementing straw mulching (SM) and jujube branch mulching (BM) measures in the mountainous jujube economic forests. Through long-term monitoring and statistical analysis, the study investigated the effects of different mulching treatments on soil moisture and soil temperature. The research findings reveal that both SM and BM significantly increased soil moisture in the 0–280 cm soil layer during the jujube growing season (p < 0.05). In both normal precipitation (2014) and drought (2015) years, SM increased average soil moisture content by 5.10% and 4.60%, respectively, compared to the uncovered treatment (CK). SM also had a positive impact on the soil moisture content in each layer of the soil profile. However, BM only increased soil moisture content in the 40–100 cm and 220–280 cm soil layers. Additionally, SM and BM reduced the variation of soil moisture, with SM showing a more significant effect in regulating soil moisture and achieving more stable moisture levels. During the jujube growing seasons in 2014 and 2015, SM and BM decreased soil temperature in the 0–10 cm soil layer. The temperature difference compared to CK decreased with increasing soil depth. SM had an overcooling effect, while BM reduced the temperature before the fruit expansion period and maintained warmth afterward. Both SM and BM also reduced the daily range and variation range of soil temperature, with SM having a more pronounced effect. The temperature of the 0–20 cm soil layer exhibited the strongest correlation with air temperature, and SM showed the weakest response. In conclusion, adopting straw mulching and jujube branch mulching in rain-fed jujube orchards in the loess hilly region not only saves materials and reduces costs but also contributes to water retention and temperature regulation. Straw mulching, in particular, plays a more significant role in moisture retention and temperature regulation and is advantageous for soil management in rain-fed jujube orchards. In order to investigate the comprehensive effects of straw returning on soil physical and chemical properties, as well as cotton growth in Jiangsu, China, and to determine suitable high-yield and efficient straw returning measures, this study implemented three different straw returning methods: straw mulching (SM), straw incorporation (SI), and straw biochar (BC), with no straw returning served as a control (CT). The study aimed to assess the impact of these straw-returning measures on soil nutrients, soil moisture content, soil water storage, and deficit status, as well as primary indicators of cotton growth. The findings revealed that the total available nutrient storage under SM, SI, and BC showed an increase of 11.93%, 11.15%, and 32.39%, respectively, compared to CT. Among these methods, BC demonstrated a significant enhancement in soil organic carbon content, available phosphorus, and available potassium. Furthermore, SM exhibited a considerable increase in soil moisture content across all layers (0–40 cm), resulting in an average water storage increase of 7.42 mm compared to CT. Consequently, this effectively reduced the soil water deficit during the cotton development period. Moreover, the height of cotton plants was increased by SM, SI, and BC, with SM promoting the greatest growth rate of up to 66.87%. SM resulted in an 11.17 cm increase in cotton plant height compared to CT. Additionally, SM contributed to higher chlorophyll content in leaves at the end of the growth period. Overall, the indicators suggest that straw mulching is particularly effective in enhancing soil moisture and nutrient distribution, especially during dry years, and has a positive impact on promoting cotton development. Soil nitrogen cycling microbial communities and functional gene α−diversity indicate soil nitrogen cycling ecological functions and potentials. Crop rotation plans affect soil nitrogen fractions and these indicators. We sequenced soil samples from four crop rotation plans (fallow, winter wheat monoculture, pea-winter wheat-winter wheat-millet rotation, and corn-wheat-wheat-millet rotation) in a long-term field experiment. We examined how microbial communities and functional gene α−diversity changed with soil nitrogen fractions and how nitrogen fractions regulated them. Planting crops increased the abundance and richness of nitrogen cycling key functional genes and bacterial communities compared with fallow. The abundance and richness correlated positively with nitrogen fractions, while Shannon index did not. The abundance increased with soil total nitrogen (STN) and potential nitrogen mineralization (PNM), while Shannon index showed that nitrogen cycling key functional genes increased and then decreased with increasing STN and PON. Introducing legumes into the rotation improved the α−diversity of nitrogen cycling key functional genes. These results can guide sustainable agriculture in the Loess Plateau and clarify the relationship between nitrogen fractions and nitrogen cycling key functional genes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) splitting water technology over the years has gradually matured, and now photoanodes loaded with nanoparticles (NPs) show excellent PEC performance. Each of the metal NPs has a different effect on the PEC performance of BiVO4. This work selected the noble metals Ag and Au to modify BiVO4 and study its PEC performance. After recombination, the photocurrent densities of Ag/BiVO4 and Au/BiVO4 photoanodes were 3.88 mA/cm2 and 1.61 mA/cm2 at 1.23 VRHE, which were 3.82 and 1.72 times that of pure BiVO4. The hydrogen evolution of pure BiVO4 is about 1.10 μmol·cm−2. Ag/BiVO4 and Au/BiVO4 contain 3.56 and 2.32 times pure BiVO4, respectively. Through the research, it was found that the composite noble metal (NM) NPs could improve the PEC properties; this is because NM NPs can introduce a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect to increase the concentration and accelerate the separation of carriers. The mechanism of the SPR effect can be explained as NM NPs are excited by light generating "hot electrons", and the hot electrons can directly enter the conduction band (CB) of BiVO4 through an electron transfer mechanism. The potential energy of the Schottky barrier generated by the contact of NM NPs with BiVO4 is smaller than that generated by the SPR effect, which enables the "hot electrons" to be smoothly transferred from the NM NPs to the conduction band of BiVO4 without returning to the NM NPs. Ag/BiVO4 showed higher PEC activity than Au/BiVO4 because of its higher light absorption, photocurrent, and oxygen evolution capacity. It can be seen that loading NM NPs increases the concentration of the carriers while the separation and transfer rates of the carriers are improved. The distribution of the population is an essential aspect of addressing social, economic, and environmental problems. Gridded population data can provide more detailed information than census data, and multisource data from remote sensing and geographic information systems have been widely used for population estimation studies. However, due to spatial heterogeneity, the population has different distribution characteristics and variation patterns at different scales, while the relationships between multiple variables also vary with scale. This article presents a stepwise downscaling approach in that the random forest regression kriging technique is used to downscale census data to multi-resolution gridded population datasets. Using Nanjing, China, as the experimental case, population distribution maps were generated at 100 m, 500 m, and 1 km spatial resolution, and compared with the other three downscaling methods and three population products. The results demonstrated the produced gridded population maps by the proposed approach have higher accuracy and more accurate details of population distribution with the smallest mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean squared error (RMSE) values of 1.590 and 2.189 ten thousand people (over 40% reduction). The artificial land and road data are the two most important indicators of population distribution for the regional random forest modeling in Nanjing. In this paper, an asynchronous collision-tolerant ACRDA scheme based on satellite-selection collaboration-beamforming (SC-ACRDA) is proposed to solve the avalanche effect caused by packet collision under random access (RA) high load in the low earth orbit (LEO) satellite Internet of Things (IoT) networks. A non-convex optimization problem is formulated to realize the satellite selection problem in multi-satellite collaboration-beamforming. To solve this problem, we employ the Charnes-Cooper transformation to transform a convex optimization problem. In addition, an iterative binary search algorithm is also designed to obtain the optimization parameter. Furthermore, we present a signal processing flow combined with ACRDA protocol and serial interference cancellation (SIC) to solve the packet collision problem effectively in the gateway station. Simulation results show that the proposed SC-ACRDA scheme can effectively solve the avalanche effect and improve the performance of the RA protocol in LEO satellite IoT networks compared with benchmark problems. In this study, N-doped layered porous carbon prepared by the high-temperature solid-state method is used as electrode material. Nano calcium carbonate (CaCO3) (40 nm diameter) is used as the hard template, sucrose (C12H22O11) as the carbon source, and melamine (C3H6N6) as the nitrogen source. The materials prepared at 850 °C, 750 °C, and 650 °C are compared with YP-50F commercial super-activated carbon from Japan Kuraray Company. The electrode material at 850 °C pyrolysis temperature has a higher specific surface area and more pores suitable for ion adsorption. Due to these advantages, the salt adsorption capacity (SAC) of the N-doped layered porous carbon at 850 °C reached 12.56 mg/g at 1.2 V applied DC voltage, 500 mg/L initial solution concentration, and 15 mL/min inlet solution flow rate, which is better than the commercial super activated carbon as a comparison. In addition, it will be demonstrated that the N-doped layered porous carbon at 850 °C has a high salt adsorption capacity CDI performance than YP-50F by studying parameters with different applied voltages and flow rates as well as solution concentrations. Foxtail millet is an important crop in Northwest China; however, the mechanism responsible for regulating root adjustment, including water uptake, sugar transport, or metabolism, in foxtail millet remains unclear. Two millet cultivars (the drought-resistant Yugu1 [YG] and the drought-sensitive An04 [An]) were used to detect physiological, molecular, and agronomic traits under two different soil water conditions. Water use efficiency increased by 18.4% and 63.2% under drought stress in An and YG, respectively. Under drought stress, YG and An root exudation (RE) decreased by 66.7% and 89.0%, the photosynthesis rate decreased by 34.3% and 61.8%, and the grain yield decreased by 40.6% and 62.6%, respectively. An contained a high ratio of soluble sugar to starch, whereas YG remained consistent. RNA-seq data showed a lower expression of beta-amylase 2 in YG than in An. The expression levels of three SWEET genes involved in sugar transport and four plasma membrane intrinsic protein (PIP) genes were higher in YG than in An, allocating more photosynthetic sugar to the roots to prevent a significant elevation in the ratio of soluble sugar to starch. The high expression levels of SiPIPs also enhanced root water transport capacity. Recently, the piezoelectric effect has been widely used in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, and the morphology of the piezoelectric material is a critical factor affecting the piezo-photoelectrochemical water splitting performance. Herein, we explored the mechanism of the piezo-photoelectrochemical performance of zinc oxide (ZnO) that is affected by the morphology. Firstly, three different ZnO nanostructures (nanosheets, nanorods, and nanospheres) were synthesized by the electrodeposition, hydrothermal, and sol-gel methods, respectively. Then, the measurements of PEC water splitting performance under the piezoelectric effect revealed a 3-fold increase for the ZnO nanosheets, a 1.4-fold increase for the nanorods, and a 1.2-fold increase for the nanospheres compared to no piezoelectric effect. Finally, finite element simulation showed that nanosheets generated the highest piezoelectric potential (0.6 V), followed by nanorods (0.2 V), and nanospheres the lowest (0.04 V). Thus, among the three morphologies, the ZnO nanosheets exhibited a great improvement in PEC performance under the piezoelectric effect. The great improvement is due to the non-axial vertical homogeneous growth of the ZnO nanosheets, subjecting them to the highest effective deformation stress, which enables the ZnO nanosheets to produce the highest piezoelectric potential to accelerate the carrier separation and limit the recombination of photoelectrons and holes. Background and aims: Although the significance of primary congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is supported by an increasing amount of evidence, the clinical and genetic characteristics of this condition are still poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the underlying genetic etiologies in a cohort of primary CH patients. Subjects and Methods: The clinical data of 33 patients with primary CH were collected and analyzed via a cross-sectional study. Genetic analysis was performed by high-throughput sequencing and Sanger verification, and the pathogenicity of the novel missense variants was predicted using a variety of comprehensive bioinformatic tools. Results: Among the 33 patients, 22 (22/33, 66.7%) harbored pathogenic variants in the causative genes of thyroid dysgenesis or dyshormonogenesis, with DUOX2 (15/33, 45.5%) topping the list, followed by TG, TPO, DUOXA2 and PAX8. Four novel genetic variants were detected, including a pathogenic frameshift and three likely pathogenic missense variants. Positive neonatal screening for TSH, neonatal jaundice and abnormal thyroid morphology were the main positive findings among all cases. Although 31 of the total 33 CH patients exhibited normal anthropometric and social performance, the other 2 had poor prognosis in this study. Conclusions: This study reported 33 new CH patients bearing four novel genetic variants, which enriched the variant spectrum of CH genes. In this cohort, genetic factors causing thyroid dyshormonogenesis were the main etiologies of CH development. Spinodal decomposition is an important mechanism of exsolution. However, spinodal decomposition has not been observed in natural sulfide intergrowths. We utilized focused ion beam (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques to confirm spinodal decomposition in natural sulfide intergrowths (chalcopyrite and bornite). According to FIB and TEM analyses, spinodal decomposition occurred as small and curving alternating dark and bright fluctuations in natural bornite–chalcopyrite intergrowths. Due to the low temperature that drove the exsolution mechanism, fluctuations ~10 nm wide and 20–200 nm long contained non-stoichiometric and tetragonal bornite and chalcopyrite. The corresponding electron diffraction of spinodal decomposition displayed a satellite spot in the [−210] direction for bornite, and the (200)* and (224)* of chalcopyrite paralleled the (24−2)* and (242)* of bornite, respectively. These observations all agreed with spinodal decomposition, two coexisting phases formed with a crystallographic orientation relationship, which indicated the first observation of spinodal decomposition in natural sulfide intergrowths. These findings confirmed that spinodal decomposition is a mechanism for natural crystal growth. Excessive application of nitrogen (N) fertilizer will cause many adverse consequences in paddy fields, especially for the reduction in N use efficiency. Biochar can be used to replace part of N fertilizer for rice production. A field experiment of 2-year/four-season was conducted to investigate the effects of N fertilizer reduction combined with rice straw biochar application on rice yield, soil fertility, and N use efficiency. The experiment contained six treatments: No N application (CK), customary N application (N100), 20% N reduction (N80), 20% N reduction + biochar (N80+BC), 40% N reduction (N60), and 40% N reduction + biochar (N60+BC). Compared with N100, N reduction alone had no significant impact on the number of tillers and aboveground biomass of rice, exceptfor N60 which slightly reduced grain yield, while biochar incorporation tended to obtain higher tillers, aboveground biomass, and grain yield of rice compared with N reduction alone. The average contribution of biochar to grain yield on the basis of N80 and N60 were 5.8% and 7.7%, respectively. Notably, biochar incorporation further improved the agronomic N efficiency (54.5–309.4% over N100) and apparent N recovery (25.7–150.5% over N100) on the basis of N reduction. Furthermore, biochar application could not only maintain N nutrition level of rice, but also improve soil fertility mainly by increasing soil pH and organic matter. Therefore, integrated application of mineral N fertilizer and biochar is a feasible nutrient management measure to increase rice yield and soil fertility, and improve N use efficiency in paddy ecosystem. In this study we demonstrate a high-performance polarization rotator (PR) based on flat-shaped photonic crystal fiber. The flat surfaces of the fiber are plated on gold films as electrodes, and the core of the structure is filled with liquid crystal. The polarization rotation characteristics of the flat-shaped fiber can be effectively adjusted by applying external voltage. The optical properties are analyzed using the finite element method (FEM). The results show that the magnitude of the modulation voltage is closely related to the thickness of the flat fiber. When the fiber thickness is 20 μm, only 100 V is required to achieve the highest PR performance. In the wavelength of the 1.55 μm band (~200 nm bandwidth), the conversion length of the PR is only 3.99 μm, the conversion efficiency is close to 100%, and the minimum crosstalk value is −26.2 dB. The research on node importance identification for temporal networks has attracted much attention. In this work, combined with the multi-layer coupled network analysis method, an optimized supra-adjacency matrix (OSAM) modeling method was proposed. In the process of constructing an optimized super adjacency matrix, the intra-layer relationship matrixes were improved by introducing the edge weight. The inter-layer relationship matrixes were formed by improved similarly and the inter-layer relationship is directional by using the characteristics of directed graphs. The model established by the OSAM method accurately expresses the structure of the temporal network and considers the influence of intra- and inter-layer relationships on the importance of nodes. In addition, an index was calculated by the average of the sum of the eigenvector centrality indices for a node in each layer and the node importance sorted list was obtained from this index to express the global importance of nodes in temporal networks. The experimental results on three real temporal network datasets Enron, Emaildept3, and Workspace showed that compared with the SAM and the SSAM methods, the OSAM method has a faster message propagation rate and larger message coverage and better SIR and NDCG@10 indicators. The syntheses of two triads are reported. Each triad is composed of two perylene-monoimides linked to a porphyrin via an ethyne unit, which bridges the perylene 9-position and a porphyrin 5- or 15-position. Each triad also contains a single tether composed of an alkynoic acid or an isophthalate unit. Each triad provides panchromatic absorption (350–700 nm) with fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region (733 or 743 nm; fluorescence quantum yield ~0.2). The syntheses rely on the preparation of trans-AB-porphyrins bearing one site for tether attachment (A), an aryl group (B), and two open meso-positions. The AB-porphyrins were prepared by the condensation of a 1,9-diformyldipyrromethane and a dipyrromethane. The installation of the two perylene-monoimide groups was achieved upon the 5,15-dibromination of the porphyrin and the subsequent copper-free Sonogashira coupling, which was accomplished before or after the attachment of the tether. Coconut husk biomass waste was used as the carbon precursor to develop a simple and economical process for the preparation of hierarchical porous activated carbon, and the electrochemical properties of the electrode material were explored. The important process variables of carbonization, the weight ratios of the coconut shell/KOH, the amount of source dopant, and the carbonization temperature were investigated in order to reveal the influence of the as-obtained microporous/mesoporous/macroporous hierarchical porous carbon materials on the powder properties. Using a BET specific surface area analyzer, Raman analysis, XPS and SEM, surface morphology, pore distribution and specific surface area of the hierarchical porous carbon materials are discussed. The results show that the as-prepared N-, S- and O-heteroatom-co-doped activated carbon electrode was manufactured at 700 °C for electrochemical characteristics. The electrochemical behavior has the characteristics of pseudo-capacitance, and could reach 186 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 when measured by the galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) test. After 7000 cycles of the charge–discharge test, the initial capacitance value retention rate was 95.6%. The polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) plays a key role in tumor development and immunotherapy in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. However, the impact of apoptosis on TAM polarization and immunotherapy efficacy in patients with different mismatch repair statuses (MMR) remains unclear. Here, we constructed an atlas of macrophage and found a higher rate of infiltration of M2-like TAM subpopulation in pMMR CRC tumor tissues compared with that in dMMR CRC tumor tissues. Importantly, a lower infiltration rate of M2c-like TAMs was associated with immunotherapy response. The M2 polarization trajectory revealed the apoptosis of M2c-like TAMs in dMMR while the differentiation of M2c-like TAMs in pMMR, implying a higher polarization level of M2 in pMMR. Furthermore, we found that a high expression of S100A6 induces the apoptosis of M2c-like TAMs in dMMR. In conclusion, we identified apoptotic TAM subpopulations in the M2 polarization trajectory and found that apoptosis caused by the high expression of S100A6 reduces their infiltration in tumors as well as the level of M2 polarization and contributes to a favorable immunotherapy response. Background: Lymph node tuberculosis (LNTB) is the leading type of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) causing death in children. The Xpert MTB/RIF assay is a novel rapid test for the diagnosis of LNTB. Although previous evidence suggests that Xpert is reliably accurate in diagnosing EPTB in children, information is lacking for the specific type of LNTB in children. The aim of this study was to systematically assess the accuracy and reliability of Xpert for the diagnosis of LNTB in children. Methods: We systematically searched four databases, Embase, Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science, which extracted relevant data according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were analyzed by meta-Disc 1.4 and Stata 12.0 software to determine sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), etc. Results: A total of 646 samples from 8 studies were included in the analysis. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, negative likelihood ratio (NLR), positive likelihood ratio (PLR,) and combined diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) of Xpert for all samples were 0.79 (95% CI 0.70, 0.87), 0.90 (95% CI 0.86, 0.92), 0.29 (95% CI 0.19, 0.43), 7.20 (95% CI 3.32, 15.60), and 37.56 (95% CI 13.04, 108.15), respectively. The area under the curve (AUC) of the summary receiver operating characteristic (sROC) curve was 0.9050. Conclusion: Overall, Xpert showed moderate sensitivity and high specificity compared with culture in the diagnosis of LNTB in children. Plant roots can be colonized by many symbiotic fungi, whereas it is unclear whether and how symbiotic fungi including arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and endophytic fungi promote phosphorus (P) uptake in Camellia oleifera plants. The objective of the present study was to analyze the effect of inoculation with a culturable endophytic fungus (Piriformospora indica), three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Funneliformis mosseae, Diversispora versiformis, and Rhizophagus intraradices), and mixture of F. mosseae, D. versiformis and R. intraradices on plant growth, root architecture, soil Olsen-P, soil phosphatase activities, leaf and root P concentrations, and phosphate transporter gene expressions, in order to explore the potential and mechanism of these symbiotic fungi on P acquisition. All the symbiotic fungi colonized roots of C. oleifera after 16 weeks, with P. indica showing the best effect on fungal colonization. All the symbiotic fungi significantly increased acid, neutral, and total phosphatase activities in the soil, accompanied with an elevation of soil Olsen-P, of which P. indica presented the best effect. All symbiotic fungal treatments, except D. versiformis, significantly promoted plant growth, coupled with an increase in root total length, area, and volume. Symbiotic fungi almost up-regulated root CoPHO1-3 expressions as well as leaf CoPHO1-1, CoPHO1-3, and CoPHT1;4 expressions. Correlation analysis showed that P concentrations in leaves and roots were significantly positively correlated with root morphological variables (length, volume, and surface area) and soil acid, neutral and total phosphatase activities. It is concluded that symbiotic fungi, especially P. indica, played an important role in P uptake of C. oleifera plants through regulating root architecture, part plant phosphate transporter gene expressions and soil phosphatase activities. Integrated satellite multiple terrestrial relay network (ISMTRN) is a new network architecture that combines satellite communication with terrestrial communication. It both utilizes the advantages of the two systems and overcomes their shortcomings. However, security issues inevitably arise in the ISMTRN resulting from the broad coverage of the satellite beams and the openness of wireless communication. One of the promising methods to achieve secure transmission is covert communication technology, which has been a hot discussion topic in recent years. In this paper, we investigate the performance of covert communication in the ISMTRN with partial relay selection. Particularly, when the satellite transmits its signal to the user, we consider the scenario that the selected relay opportunistically sends covert information to the destination. Furthermore, the closed-form error detection probability and average covert communication rate are derived. Although cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is effective for patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), 40% of OCD patients show a poor response to CBT. This study aimed to identify the cortical structural factors that predict CBT outcomes in OCD patients. A total of 56 patients with OCD received baseline structural MRI (sMRI) scanning and 14 individual CBT sessions. The linear support vector regression (SVR) models were used to identify the predictive performance of sMRI indices, including gray matter volume, cortical thickness, sulcal depth, and gyrification value. The patients' OC symptoms decreased significantly after CBT intervention (p < 0.001). We found the model with the comprehensive variables exhibited better performance than the models with single structural indices (MAE = 0.14, MSE = 0.03, R2 = 0.36), showing a significant correlation between the true value and the predicted value (r = 0.63, p < 0.001). The results indicated that a model integrating four cortical structural features can accurately predict the effectiveness of CBT for OCD. Future models incorporating other brain indicators, including brain functional indicators, EEG indicators, neurotransmitters, etc., which might be more accurate for predicting the effectiveness of CBT for OCD, are needed. Tower foundations have been used as grounding electrodes to reduce the area of the grounding devices. However, it is difficult to calculate the grounding resistance due to the complex structure of the reinforced concrete foundation. A method for calculating grounding resistance of reinforced concrete foundations is proposed in this paper. The method equates the complex foundation structure into a cylindrical conductor and then calculates the grounding resistance with the help of the method of moments, which simplifies establishment of the simulation model and reduces the extensive computation. In addition, the applicability of the equal cross-sectional area method and the equal cross-sectional perimeter method is analyzed. It shows that both methods are applicable only when the concrete resistivity is close to the soil resistivity. The equal cross-sectional area method is applicable when the concrete resistivity is within twice the soil resistivity, while the equal cross-sectional perimeter method is applicable when the concrete resistivity is approximately same or less than the resistivity of the soil. In recent years, the vigorous rise in computational intelligence has opened up new research ideas for solving chemical dynamic optimization problems, making the application of swarm-intelligence optimization techniques more and more widespread. However, the potential for algorithms with different performances still needs to be further investigated in this context. On this premise, this paper puts forward a universal swarm-intelligence dynamic optimization framework, which transforms the infinite-dimensional dynamic optimization problem into the finite-dimensional nonlinear programming problem through control variable parameterization. In order to improve the efficiency and accuracy of dynamic optimization, an improved version of the multi-strategy enhanced sparrow search algorithm is proposed from the application side, including good-point set initialization, hybrid algorithm strategy, Lévy flight mechanism, and Student's t-distribution model. The resulting augmented algorithm is theoretically tested on ten benchmark functions, and compared with the whale optimization algorithm, marine predators algorithm, harris hawks optimization, social group optimization, and the basic sparrow search algorithm, statistical results verify that the improved algorithm has advantages in most tests. Finally, the six algorithms are further applied to three typical dynamic optimization problems under a universal swarm-intelligence dynamic optimization framework. These systems, which coordinate multiple robots of varying functions and quantities, face the significant challenge of accurately assembling robot teams that meet the dynamic needs of tasks with respect to size and functionality, all while maintaining minimal resource expenditure. This paper introduces a pioneering adaptive cooperation method named inner attention (innerATT), crafted to dynamically configure teams of heterogeneous robots in response to evolving task types and environmental conditions. The innerATT method is articulated through the integration of an innovative attention mechanism within a multi-agent actor–critic reinforcement learning framework, enabling the strategic analysis of robot capabilities to efficiently form teams that fulfill specific task demands. To demonstrate the efficacy of innerATT in facilitating cooperation, experimental scenarios encompassing variations in task type ("Single Task", "Double Task", and "Mixed Task") and robot availability are constructed under the themes of "task variety" and "robot availability variety." Overground rock is a prominent feature of rocky desertification landscape in karst farmland; however, people often pay attention to their adverse effects, leaving their positive effects on ecohydrological processes and plant growth as rarely studied and utilized. In this study, the effects of overground rock film mulching (ORFM) on soil water flow behavior, soil water content and temporal and spatial heterogeneity were investigated through a dye tracer test and soil moisture measurement. Moreover, the effects of this technology on the root characteristics of crops (maize and broad bean) were analyzed. The results showed that ORFM treatment significantly increased soil water content and its spatio-temporal heterogeneity by preventing preferential flow at the rock–soil interface. It suggested that this practice can provide a more favorable soil moisture environment for crop growth, which was confirmed by the differences in root characteristics of crops (maize and broad bean) under different treatments in this study. It was found that ORFM treatment reduced the root radial extent of crops but increased the root biomass and root bifurcation rate, which are widely considered to be key factors in improving the efficiency of fine root absorption. Therefore, we believe that ORFM has great potential to improve the effective use of soil water and agricultural water management in karst areas, which is essential for sustainable agricultural development in the region. Dielectric materials with superb thermal and electrical properties are highly desired for high-voltage electrical equipment and advanced electronics. Here, we propose a novel strategy to improve the performance of epoxy composites by employing boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) and γ-glycidyl ether oxypropyl sesimoxane (G-POSS) as functional fillers. The resultant ternary epoxy composites exhibit high electrical resistivity (1.63 × 1013 Ω·cm) and low dielectric loss (<0.01) due to the ultra-low dielectric constants of cage-structure of G-POSS. In addition, a high thermal conductivity of 0.3969 W·m−1·K−1 is achieved for the epoxy composites, which is 114.66% higher than that of pure epoxy resin. This can be attributed to the high aspect ratio and excellent thermally conductive characteristics of BNNSs, promoting phonon propagation in the composites. Moreover, the epoxy composite simultaneously possesses remarkable dynamic mechanical properties and thermal stability. On 6 February 2023, the MW 7.8 Pazarcik and the MW 7.5 Elbistan earthquakes occurred in southeastern Turkey, close to the Syrian border, causing many deaths and a great deal of property destruction. The Pazarcik earthquake mainly damaged the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ). The Elbistan earthquake mainly damaged the Cardak fault (CF) and the Doğanşehir fault (DF). In this study, Sentinel-1A ascending (ASC) and descending (DES) orbit image data and pixel offset tracking (POT) were used to derive surface deformation fields in the range and azimuth directions induced by the Pazarcik and Elbistan earthquakes (hereinafter referred to as the Turkey double earthquakes). Utilizing GPS coordinate sequence data, we computed the three-dimensional surface deformation resulting from the Turkey double earthquakes. The surface deformation InSAR and GPS results were combined to invert the coseismic slip distribution of the EAFZ, CF, and DF using a layered earth model. The results show that the coseismic ruptures of the Turkey double earthquakes were dominated by left-lateral strike-slips. The maximum slip was 7.76 m on the EAFZ and about 8.2 m on the CF. Both the earthquakes ruptured the surface. The Coulomb failure stress (CFS) was computed based on the fault slip distribution and the geometric parameters of all the active faults within 300 km of the MW 7.8 Pazarcik earthquake's epicenter. The CFS change resulting from the Pazarcik earthquake suggests that the subsequent Elbistan earthquake was triggered by the Pazarcik earthquake. The Antakya fault experienced an increase in CFS of 8.4 bars during this double-earthquake event. Therefore, the MW 6.3 Uzunbağ earthquake on 20 February 2023 was jointly influenced by the Turkey double earthquakes. Through stress analysis of all the active faults within 300 km of the MW 7.8 Pazarcik earthquake's epicenter, the Ecemis segment, Camliyayla fault, Aadag fault, Ayvali fault, and Pula segment were all found to be under stress loading. Simple Summary: Despite recent improvement in chemotherapy regimens for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC), the clinical outcomes are still unsatisfactory compared to other solid tumors. Radiotherapy was demonstrated to improve locoregional control of PDAC; however, the survival benefit of radiotherapy in localized PDAC is undefined due to early distant progression in the majority of patients. Upfront chemotherapy for localized PDAC was suggested recently to avoid radical local therapy for patients of localized PDAC high risk of distant metastasis. Potential tissue biomarkers were developed to select PDAC patients who will benefit from local radiotherapy. This review summarizes potential tissue biomarkers reported to predict the efficacy and survival benefits of radiotherapy for localized PDAC including SMAD4, a biomarker validated in a prospective clinical trial to correlate with failure pattern of localized PDAC after radiotherapy. In particular, we describe Krüppel-like factor 10 (KLF10), lost in two thirds of PDAC patients, in association with distant metastasis and radio-resistance of PDAC. From tumor tissues of patients with resectable PDAC enrolled to a clinical trial, we demonstrated that the combination of KLF10 and SMAD4 expression in tumor tissues may help select those who may benefit the most from additional radiotherapy. Though promising, these potential biomarkers should be validated in prospective clinical trials. The prognosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains poor, with a 5-year survival rate of 12%. Although radiotherapy is effective for the locoregional control of PDAC, it does not have survival benefits compared with systemic chemotherapy. Most patients with localized PDAC develop distant metastasis shortly after diagnosis. Upfront chemotherapy has been suggested so that patients with localized PDAC with early distant metastasis do not have to undergo radical local therapy. Several potential tissue markers have been identified for selecting patients who may benefit from local radiotherapy, thereby prolonging their survival. This review summarizes these biomarkers including SMAD4, which is significantly associated with PDAC failure patterns and survival. In particular, Krüppel-like factor 10 (KLF10) is an early response transcription factor of transforming growth factor (TGF)-β. Unlike TGF-β in advanced cancers, KLF10 loss in two-thirds of patients with PDAC was associated with rapid distant metastasis and radioresistance; thus, KLF10 can serve as a predictive and therapeutic marker for PDAC. For patients with resectable PDAC, a combination of KLF10 and SMAD4 expression in tumor tissues may help select those who may benefit the most from additional radiotherapy. The main purpose of this study was to assess the influence of grass planting and jujube branch mulching on soil moisture levels and jujube tree transpiration rates, with the ultimate goal of improving jujube tree production in rain-fed orchards. The study encompassed four treatments: jujube branch mulching (JBM), jujube branch mulching with white clover planting (JBM + WCP), white clover planting (WCP), and clean cultivation (CC). During a two-year experiment, it was observed that the JBM treatment exhibited the highest capacity for moisture conservation. Specifically, it resulted in an average increase of 2.69% (in 2013) and 2.23% (in 2014) in soil moisture content compared with the CC treatment. The application of statistical analysis revealed significant differences (p < 0.05) between JBM and JBM + WCP, as well as highly significant differences (p < 0.01) between JBM and WCP in the year 2013. In 2014, JBM exhibited significant differences (p < 0.01) from both JBM + WCP and WCP. Between April and August, JBM exhibited the highest soil moisture content, followed by CC, with WCP showing the lowest levels. From September to October, JBM retained its status as the treatment with the highest soil moisture content, JBM + WCP ranked second, and CC experienced a decline and recorded the lowest soil moisture content. Under sunny conditions, all treatments showed a broad peak curve in the daily variation of sap flow velocity. In cloudy weather, a multi-peak wave-like curve was observed with similar trends across treatments. Between April and August, the monthly average sap flow velocity of JBM ranked the highest, followed by CC, while WCP showed the lowest velocity. During the period of September to October, JBM maintained its lead in sap flow velocity, while JBM + WCP rose to the second position, and CC's sap flow velocity dropped to the lowest level. JBM and WCP treatments showed significant differences (p < 0.01), and in 2014, JBM also had significant differences (p < 0.05) compared with JBM + WCP. The sap flow velocity was positively correlated with air temperature, vapor pressure deficit, wind velocity, photosynthetically active radiation, and soil temperature. Photosynthetically active radiation was identified as the main driving factor influencing jujube tree transpiration. In conclusion, the findings of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of using pruned jujube branches for coverage in rain-fed jujube orchards. This approach not only conserves mulching materials and diminishes the expenses associated with transporting pruned jujube tree branches away from the jujube orchard but also achieves multiple objectives, including increasing soil moisture, promoting jujube tree transpiration, and enhancing soil water utilization. These results have significant implications for the efficient utilization of rainwater resources in rain-fed jujube orchards and provide valuable insights for practical applications in orchard management. Flood inundation causes socioeconomic losses for coastal tourism under climate extremes, progressively attracting global attention. Predicting, mapping, and evaluating the flood inundation risk (FIR) is important for coastal tourism. This study developed a spatial tourism-aimed framework by integrating a Weighted k Nearest Neighbors (WkNN) algorithm, geographic information systems, and environmental indexes, such as precipitation and soil. These model inputs were standardized and weighted using inverse distance calculation and integrated into WkNN to infer the regional probability and distribution of the FIR. Zhejiang province, China, was selected as a case study. The evaluation results were mapped to denote the likelihood of an FIR, which was then validated by the historical Maximum Inundation Extent (MIE) extracted from the World Environment Situation Room. The results indicated that 80.59% of the WkNN results reasonably confirmed the MIE. Among the matched areas, 80.14%, 90.13%, 65.50%, and 84.14% of the predicted categories using WkNN perfectly coincided with MIE at high, medium, low, and very low risks, respectively. For the entire study area, approximately 2.85%, 64.83%, 10.8%, and 21.51% are covered by a high, medium, low, and very low risk of flood inundation. Precipitation and elevation negatively contribute to a high-medium risk. Drainage systems positively alleviate the regional stress of the FIR. The results of the evaluation illustrate that in most inland areas, some tourism facilities are located in high-medium areas of the FIR. However, most tourism facilities in coastal cities are at low or very low risk, especially from Hangzhou-centered northern coastal areas to southern Wenzhou areas. The results can help policymakers make appropriate strategies to protect coastal tourism from flood inundation. Moreover, the evaluation accuracy of WkNN is higher than that of kNN in FIR. The WkNN-based framework provides a reasonable method to yield reliable results for assessing FIR. The framework can also be extended to other risk-related research under climate change. Fluorophores that absorb and emit in the red spectral region (600-700 nm) are of great interest in photochemistry and photomedicine. Eight new target chlorins (and 19 new chlorins altogether)--analogues of chlorophyll--of different polarities have been designed and synthesized for various applications; seven of the chlorins are equipped with a bioconjugatable tether. Hydrophobic or amphiphilic chlorins in a non-polar organic solvent (toluene), polar organic solvent (DMF), and aqueous or aqueous micellar media show a sharp emission band in the red region and modest fluorescence quantum yield (Φf = 0.2-0.3). A Poisson analysis implies most micelles are empty and few contain >1 chlorin. Water-soluble chlorins each bearing three PEG (oligoethyleneglycol) groups exhibit narrow emission bands (full-width-at-half maximum <25 nm). The lifetime of the lowest singlet excited state and the corresponding yields and rate constants for depopulation pathways (fluorescence, intersystem crossing, internal conversion) are generally little affected by the PEG groups or dissolution in aqueous or organic media. A set of chlorin-avidin conjugates revealed a 2-fold increase in Φf with increased average chlorin/avidin ratio (2.3-12). Kudzu root (Pueraria lobate (Willd.) Ohwi, KR) is an edible plant with rich nutritional and medicinal values. Over the past few decades, an ample variety of biological effects of Pueraria isoflavone have been evaluated. Evidence has shown that Pueraria isoflavone can play an active role in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, neuroprotection, and cardiovascular protection. Over 50 isoflavones in kudzu root have been identified, including puerarin, daidzein, daidzin, 3′-hydroxy puerarin, and genistein, each with unambiguous structures. However, the application of these isoflavones in the development of functional food and health food still depends on the extraction, purification and identification technology of Pueraria isoflavone. In recent years, many green and novel extraction, purification, and identification techniques have been developed for the preparation of Pueraria isoflavone. This review provides an updated overview of these techniques, specifically for isoflavones in KR since 2018, and also discusses and compares the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques in depth. The intention is to provide a research basis for the green and efficient extraction, purification, and identification of Pueraria isoflavone and offers investigators a valuable reference for future studies on the KR. Aerogel, known as one of the remarkable materials in the 21st century, possesses exceptional characteristics such as high specific surface area, porosity, and elasticity, making it suitable for a diverse range of applications. In recent years, MXene-based aerogels and MXene composite aerogels as functional materials have solved some limitations of traditional aerogels, such as improving the electrical conductivity of biomass and silicon aerogels, further improving the energy storage capacity of carbon aerogels, enhancing polymer-based aerogels, etc. Consequently, extensive research efforts have been dedicated to investigating MXene-based aerogels, positioning them at the forefront of material science studies. This paper provides a comprehensive review of recent advancements in the preparation, properties, and applications of MXene-based composite aerogels. The primary construction strategies employed (including direct synthesis from MXene dispersions and incorporation of MXene within existing substrates) for fabricating MXene-based aerogels are summarized. Furthermore, the desirable properties (including their applications in electrochemistry, electromagnetic shielding, sensing, and adsorption) of MXene composite aerogels are highlighted. This paper delves into a detailed discussion on the fundamental properties of composite aerogel systems, elucidating the intricate structure–property relationships. Finally, an outlook is provided on the opportunities and challenges for the mass production and functional applications of MXene composite aerogels in the field of material engineering. The helicoidal laminate is a kind of nature inspired fiber reinforced polymer, and the ply orientation affects their mechanical properties for engineering structural applications. A variety of helicoidal laminates with uniform and non-linear pitch angles mixed with additional 0° plies are fabricated to investigate the impact resistance through low-velocity impact and after-impact compression tests. Additionally, helicoidal laminates with constant pitch angles, quasi-isotropic laminate, and cross-ply laminates are also fabricated for a comparative study. The impact characteristics and the compressive strength are analyzed in view of the impact model, shear stress distribution, and fracture toughness. The results suggest that 10° or 20° are the better basic pitch angles before mixing 0° orientation plies. The 0° orientation plies may affect the contact stiffness, bending stiffness, damage extent, and compressive modulus. The compressive strength reaches the highest in tests on two samples with different percentages of 0° orientation plies and ply setups. Bending stiffness also dominates the impact response. Ammannia auriculata Willd. (eared redstem) has become one of the most troublesome weeds in paddy rice in China. Resistance to bensulfuron-methyl (BSM) has spread extensively in this species. Greenhouse and field experiments were conducted to determine how the eared redstem biotype and density affect competition against rice. In the greenhouse experiment, five treatments were tested: a BSM-susceptible biotype at low density (58 plants m−2, SL), a BSM-susceptible biotype at high density (288 plants m−2, SH), a BSM-resistant biotype at low density (RL), a BSM-resistant biotype at high density (RH), and a control without eared redstem (CK). Eared redstem grew slowly until 15 days after sowing (DAS); however, growth accelerated after 20 DAS, and the eared redstem plants were taller than the rice from 55 DAS on. The SH and RH treatments were associated with greater intraspecific competition: eared redstem plants in the SH and RH treatments had fewer branches, fewer capsules, and less shoot dry weight per individual plant relative to the SL and RL treatments. The SH and RH treatments also caused greater reductions in the rice yield. The dry weight of rice at 141 DAS was reduced by 73% in the SL treatment, 98% in the SH treatment, 51% in the RL treatment, and 82% in the RH treatment, all relative to the CK. At 141 DAS, BSM-resistant plants were smaller than BSM-susceptible plants, suggesting a fitness cost of herbicide resistance in the absence of a herbicide. In the field study, eared redstem densities as low as 5 plants m−2 reduced the rice yield by 22%. A density of 50 eared redstem plants m−2 reduced the rice yield by 70%. Overall, these findings demonstrate that eared redstem is a highly aggressive weed species and threatens the rice yield even at a low density. However, the findings also demonstrate that BSM-resistant populations are less competitive. There is an urgent need to develop integrated management programs for this aggressive weed, which may include tactics to shift competitive dynamics in favor of rice.
