Hyperuricemia (HUA) has become a significant medical concern due to its complications and links to metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), which result in increased mortality. The pathogenic processes associated with unhealthy behaviors, MetS, and HUA can be cooperative and potentially synergistic in the activation of risk factors. Recent research has shown sex-based differences in the relationship between HUA and its associated risk factors. This study aimed to investigate these differences, particularly in the context of MetS and CVD risk factors and unhealthy lifestyles. We also aimed to evaluate the joint effects of these factors based on sex. We conducted a cross-sectional study using nationally representative survey data from the Korean National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey 2016–2018. We performed multivariable logistic regression analysis, calculating adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). We also conducted subgroup analyses based on sex and the presence of MetS with or without unhealthy lifestyle factors (tobacco use, alcohol intake). We found sex-based differences in the relationships between HUA and MetS, CVD risk factors, and lifestyle behaviors. Our major finding was a significant association between MetS and HUA in both men and women, regardless of alcohol consumption and smoking status, and this association was stronger in women. We also observed a synergistic effect of MetS and lifestyle factors on the risk of HUA, particularly in women, in whom the risk of HUA increased up to four times compared to the reference group. Despite a growing burden posed by cardiovascular disease (CVD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, large-scale studies on the association between the characteristics of RA patients and CVD risks and studies adjusted for various confounding factors are lacking. In this large-scale nationwide cohort study, we aimed to investigate the association between CVD risk and RA and factors that may increase CVD risk using a dataset provided by the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). We enrolled 136,469 patients with RA who participated in national health examinations within two years of RA diagnosis between 2010 and 2017 and non-RA controls matched by age and sex (n = 682,345). The outcome was the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI) or stroke. MI was defined as one hospitalization or two outpatient visits with ICD-10-CM codes I21 or I22. Stroke was defined as one hospitalization with ICD-10-CM codes I63 or I64 and a claim for brain imaging (CT or MRI). The Cox proportional hazard model and Kaplan–Meier curve were used for analysis. The mean follow-up duration was 4.7 years, and the incidence rate of CVD was higher in the RA group than the control group (MI: 3.20 vs. 2.08; stroke: 2.84 vs. 2.33 per 1000 person-years). The risk of MI and stroke was about 50% and 20% higher, respectively, in RA patients. The association between RA and CVD was prominent in females after adjusting for confounding variables. The association between RA and risk of MI was significant in individuals without DM. Therefore, appropriate screening for CVD is important in all RA patients including females and younger patients. This study outlines the preliminary stages of the development of an algorithm to predict the optimal WQ of the Hwanggujicheon Stream. In the first stages, we used the AdaBoost algorithm model to predict the state of WQ, using data from the open artificial intelligence (AI) hub. The AdaBoost algorithm has excellent predictive performance and model suitability and was selected for random forest and gradient boosting (GB)-based boosting models. To predict the optimized WQ, we selected pH, SS, water temperature, total nitrogen(TN), dissolved total phosphorus(DTP), NH3-N, chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved total nitrogen (DTN), and NO3-N as the input variables of the AdaBoost model. Dissolved oxygen (DO) was used as the target variable. Third, an algorithm showing excellent predictive power was selected by analyzing the prediction accuracy according to the input variable by using the random forest or GB series algorithm in the initial model. Finally, the performance evaluation of the ultimately developed predictive model demonstrated that RMS was 0.015, MAE was 0.009, and R2 was 0.912. The coefficient of the variation of the root mean square error (CVRMSE) was 17.404. R2 0.912 and CVRMSE were 17.404, indicating that the predictive model developed meets the criteria of ASHRAE Guideline 14. In unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry, the qualities of three-dimensional (3D) models, including ground sample distance (GSD) and shaded areas, are strongly affected by flight planning. However, during flight planning, the quality of the output cannot be estimated, as it depends on the experience of the operator. Therefore, to reduce the time and cost incurred by repetitive work required to obtain satisfactory quality, a simulator, which can automatically generate a route, acquire images through simulation, and analyze the shaded areas without real flight, has been required. While some simulators have been developed, there are some limitations. Furthermore, evaluating the performance of the simulator is difficult owing to the lack of a validation method. Therefore, to overcome the limitations, target functions, which can plan flights and can detect shaded areas, were set, developed, and validated in this study. As a result, a simulator successfully planned a flight and detected shaded areas. In this way, the simulator was validated to determine the applicability of its performance. This paper presents an air-gap magnetic field manipulation by optimized coil currents for a magnetic force enhancement in electromechanical devices. The external coil is designed near the device air-gap for manipulating the magnetic field distribution. The distribution of external coil currents is then optimized for maximizing the magnetic force in the tangential direction to the air-gap line. For the optimization, the design domain near air-gap is divided into small areas, and design variables are assigned at each small design area. The design variables determines not only the strength of coil current density (i.e., number of coil turns) but also whether the material state is coil or iron. In a benchmark actuator example, it is shown that 11.12% force enhancement is available by manipulating the air-gap magnetic field distribution using the optimized coil current. By investigating the magnetic field distribution, it is confirmed that the optimized coil current manipulated the magnetic field, forwarding a focused and inclined distribution that is an ideal distribution for maximizing the magnetic force. Climate change can lead to unpredictable slope collapse, which causes human casualties. Therefore, Korea has devoted significant effort to the management of slope disasters. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety of Korea, which oversees the safety of the nation's people, has allocated a four-year budget of $557 million to investigate, assess, and maintain steep slope sites. However, there have been fatalities caused by steep slope site evaluations based on inadequate knowledge and a single retaining walls and embankments (RW&E) assessment table. Therefore, the assessment table for RW&E-type steep slopes needs to be improved in terms of its accuracy, simplicity, and ease of use. In this study, domestic and global evaluation methods were reviewed, problems associated with the existing RW&E assessment table were identified, and a focus group interview was conducted. The RW&E assessment table was improved through an indicator feasibility survey and analytic hierarchy processing. The improved assessment table was categorized from one to four classifications to reduce the ambiguity of the evaluation: concrete, reinforced soil-retaining walls, stone embankments, and gabions. This study will provide the sustainability of slope safety and serve as a reference for classification and evaluation criteria across all national institutions that conduct RW&E evaluations. Hyperuricemia is an emerging potential biomarker for metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its complications. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors of hyperuricemia, particularly, the association of hyperuricemia with MetS and general obesity according to sex. We performed multivariate logistic regression analyses using the 2016 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data. Hyperuricemia was defined by a serum uric acid level ≥7.0 mg/dL for men and ≥6.0 mg/dL for women. General obesity was based on a body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m2. Among a total of 5591 Korean adult participants, 685 (12.3%) individuals had hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia was significantly associated with MetS in men (odds ratio (OR): 2.38, 95% CI: 1.84–3.08) and in women (OR: 4.15, 95% CI: 2.75–6.28) after adjustments. General obesity was also independently related to hyperuricemia in both sexes (OR: 2.17, 95% CI: 1.76–2.68 in men, OR: 3.80, 95% CI: 2.82–5.12 in women). In subgroup analyses, the presence of concomitant MetS and general obesity posed a strikingly higher risk for hyperuricemia among women (OR: 7.24, 95% CI: 4.56–11.50) when compared to men (OR: 2.90, 95% CI: 2.12–3.96). Background and Objectives : Hyperuricemia is associated with several comorbidities. The association between uric acid (UA) and pulmonary function is still a controversial issue. This study evaluated the gender-specific association of serum UA and pulmonary function. Materials and Methods : A total of 3177 (weighted n = 19,770,902) participants aged 40 years or older were selected from the 2016 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and included. Results : Female participants with hyperuricemia were older than participants with normouricemia. Body mass index (BMI), mean arterial pressure (MAP), hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) were significantly associated with UA levels in both males and females. Hyperuricemia and increase in UA quartile were significantly associated with decreased forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) in females after adjustment for age, income, region, education, marital status, alcohol consumption, smoking, BMI, MAP, HbA1c, and eGFR. There was no significant association between UA levels and lung function in males. After additional adjustment for respiratory disease including pulmonary tuberculosis, asthma, and lung cancer, the association between hyperuricemia and decreased FEV1 and FVC in females was revealed. Conclusions : Hyperuricemia was associated with decreased FVE1 and FVC in the female general population.

Background and objectives: Hyperuricemia is one of the well-known cardiovascular risk factors. There is a growing interest in the association between hyperuricemia and arrhythmia. We used the representative sample data of Korean population to study the association between hyperuricemia and heart rate irregularity (HRI) that reflects total arrhythmia. Materials and Methods: We performed weighted multivariate logistic regression analysis to assess the association between hyperuricemia and HRI. Results: Of the 10,827 subjects, 1308 (13.2%) had hyperuricemia and 130 (1%) had HRI. In the presence of hyperuricemia, HRI was three times higher than that in the absence of hyperuricemia (OR 2.98, 95% CI 1.71-5.18). The risk of HRI was highest in subjects with both hypertension and hyperuricemia. In the subgroup analysis, the association of hyperuricemia with HRI was most pronounced in the smoker group. Conclusions: Hyperuricemia was highly correlated with HRI in adult Korean representative sample data. Hyperuricemia was associated with a nearly tripled risk for HRI. Hypertension has a synergistic effect with hyperuricemia on HRI. Further research is warranted to clarify the relationship between hyperuricemia and arrhythmia and its mechanism.
