Objective: We aimed to investigate the association between the angular trajectory of the vestibular aqueduct (ATVA) with other radiological parameters of temporal bone and clinical characteristics in patients with Ménière's disease (MD). Methods: A total of 125 unilateral MD patients and 118 controls were enrolled. Computer tomography (CT)-based radiological parameters included ATVA, vestibular aqueduct (VA) visibility, VA morphology, the vertical part of the posterior semicircular canal—the posterior fossa distance (PPD), and peri-VA pneumatization. The clinical characteristics of MD patients included gender, age of diagnosis/onset, disease duration, migraine history, clinical staging, and the results of audio-vestibular tests. The radiological parameters and clinical characteristics in MD patients were compared. Results: Compared with control ears, ATVA ≥ 140° was more prevalent and ATVA ≤ 120° was less frequent in the MD-affected side. For the MD-affected side, MD patients with ATVA ≥ 140° exhibited more severe VA invisibility and obliteration and higher male preponderance than those with ATVA ≤ 120°. Other radio-clinical features did not differ between these two subgroups. Conclusion: In the current study, ATVA ≥ 140°, an indicator of a hypoplastic endolymphatic sac, was found in approximately one-third of the affected and unaffected ears of patients with MD, as well as in a minority of controls. This suggests that the indices may be a predisposing factor rather than a specific marker for the MD ear. Interleukin 33 (IL-33) belongs to the IL-1 family and is localized in the nucleus. IL-33 is primarily composed of three distinct domains, namely the N-terminal domain responsible for nuclear localization, the intermediate sense protease domain, and the C-terminal cytokine domain. Its specific receptor is the suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (ST2), which is detected in serum-stimulated fibroblasts and oncogenes. While most other cytokines are actively produced in cells, IL-33 is passively produced in response to tissue damage or cell necrosis, thereby suggesting its role as an alarm following cell infection, stress, or trauma. IL-33 plays a crucial role in congenital and acquired immunity, which assists in the response to environmental stress and maintains tissue homeostasis. IL-33/ST2 interaction further produces many pro-inflammatory cytokines. Moreover, IL-33 is crucial for central nervous system (CNS) homeostasis and the pathogenic mechanisms underlying CNS degenerative disorders. The present work summarizes the structure of IL-33, its fundamental activities, and its role in immunoregulation and neurodegenerative diseases. To understand the coloring mechanism in black radish, the integrated metabolome and transcriptome analyses of root skin from a black recombinant inbred line (RIL 1901) and a white RIL (RIL 1911) were carried out. A total of 172 flavonoids were detected, and the analysis results revealed that there were 12 flavonoid metabolites in radish root skin, including flavonols, flavones, and anthocyanins. The relative concentrations of most flavonoids in RIL 1901 were higher than those in RIL 1911. Meanwhile, the radish root skin also contained 16 types of anthocyanins, 12 of which were cyanidin and its derivatives, and the concentration of cyanidin 3-o-glucoside was very high at different development stages of black radish. Therefore, the accumulation of cyanidin and its derivatives resulted in the black root skin of radish. In addition, a module positively related to anthocyanin accumulation and candidate genes that regulate anthocyanin synthesis was identified by the weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Among them, structural genes (RsCHS, RsCHI, RsDFR, and RsUGT75C1) and transcription factors (TFs) (RsTT8, RsWRKY44L, RsMYB114, and RsMYB308L) may be crucial for the anthocyanin synthesis in the root skin of black radish. The anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway in the root skin of black radish was constructed based on the expression of genes related to flavonoid and anthocyanin biosynthesis pathways (Ko00941 and Ko00942) and the relative expressions of metabolites. In conclusion, this study not only casts new light on the synthesis and accumulation of anthocyanins in the root skin of black radish but also provides a molecular basis for accelerating the cultivation of new black radish varieties. Neural inflammatory response is a crucial pathological change in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) which accelerates the formation of perihematomal edema and aggravates neural cell death. Although surgical and drug treatments for ICH have advanced rapidly in recent years, therapeutic strategies that target and control neuroinflammation are still limited. Exosomes are important carriers for information transfer among cells. They have also been regarded as a promising therapeutic tool in translational medicine, with low immunogenicity, high penetration through the blood-brain barrier, and ease of modification. In our previous research, we have found that exogenous administration of miRNA-124-overexpressed microglial exosomes (Exo-124) are effective in improving post-injury cognitive impairment. From this, we evaluated the potential therapeutic effects of miRNA-124-enriched microglial exosomes on the ICH mice in the present study. We found that the gene-edited exosomes could attenuate neuro-deficits and brain edema, improve blood–brain barrier integrity, and reduce neural cell death. Moreover, the protective effect of Exo-124 was abolished in mice depleted of Gr-1+ myeloid cells. It suggested that the exosomes exerted their functions by limiting the infiltration of leukocyte into the brain, thus controlling neuroinflammation following the onset of ICH. In conclusion, our findings provided a promising therapeutic strategy for improving neuroinflammation in ICH. A yellow, Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, motile, and rod-shaped bacterial strain designated M6T was isolated from fully weathered granitic soil. The strain showing the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to M6T was Sandaracinobacteroides hominis SZY PN-1T (96.3%), the only species in the genus Sandaracinobacteroides. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization value between these two strains were 72.6% and 18.0% respectively. Growth was inhibited by NaCl (≥0.1% (w/v)). Strain M6T contained C18:1ω7c (33.8%), C14:0 2-OH (16.6%), summed feature 3 (15.8%), and C16:0 (12.6%) as the major fatty acids. The polar lipids profile consisted of phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, an unidentified glycolipid, four unidentified phospholipids, and four unidentified lipids. The genome of strain M6T was 3.4 Mb with 67.7% GC content. Further genomic analysis revealed a biosynthetic gene cluster for zeaxanthin, the production of which was verified by a high-resolution mass spectrum. The existence of multiple genes for aromatic ring-hydroxylating dioxygenases implies the potential ability for organic pollution controlling. The morphological, physiological, chemotaxonomic, and phylogenetic analysis clearly distinguished this strain from its phylogenetic neighbors, thus strain M6T represents a novel species of the genus Sandaracinobacteroides, for which the name Sandaracinobacteroides saxicola sp. nov. is proposed. Phytopathogenic fungi infect crops, presenting a worldwide threat to agriculture. Polyene macrolides are one of the most effective antifungal agents applied in human therapy and crop protection. In this study, we found a cryptic polyene biosynthetic gene cluster in Actinokineospora spheciospongiae by genome mining. Then, this gene cluster was activated via varying fermentation conditions, leading to the discovery of new polyene actinospene (1), which was subsequently isolated and its structure determined through spectroscopic techniques including UV, HR-MS, and NMR. The absolute configuration was confirmed by comparing the calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Unlike known polyene macrolides, actinospene (1) demonstrated more versatile post-assembling decorations including two epoxide groups and an unusual isobutenyl side chain. In bioassays, actinospene (1) showed a broad spectrum of antifungal activity against several plant fungal pathogens as well as pathogenic yeasts with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging between 2 and 10 μg/mL. Crop–hedgerow intercropping systems are important agroforestry systems for preventing soil degradation and soil nutrient losses on sloping cultivated land in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) area of China. However, the mechanism by which hedgerow spatial layouts and the planting patterns affect soil nutrients and crop yields is still uncertain. A two-year field experiment was performed on a 10° slope to investigate the effects of slope position and different crop–hedgerow intercropping systems on soil physicochemical properties and crop yields. The treatments were a two-belt mulberry contour hedgerow (TM), a two-belt compound mulberry–vetiver hedgerow (TCMV), a two-belt compound mulberry–alfalfa hedgerow (TCMA), a seven-year-old two-belt mulberry contour hedgerow (7YTM), a seven-year-old mulberry border hedgerow (7YBM), a seven-year-old pure mulberry (7YPM), and a control treatment (CT, no hedgerows). In all treatments, except 7YPM, there was a significant (p < 0.05) increase in crop yield, clay content, soil total nitrogen (STN), acid-hydrolyzable nitrogen (AHN), and soil organic carbon (SOC) with declining slope position, whereas soil bulk density (BD), sand content, and soil pH showed the opposite trend. In TM, TCMV, TCMA, and 7YTM, the mustard yields and soil properties were better than those in CT, and there was no significant (p > 0.05) difference in mustard yield or soil properties between the upper-middle and lower-middle slope positions. Compared with CT, TCMV, and TCMA increased mustard yields by 8.28% and 9.86%, respectively, while 7YTM, 7YBM, and 7YPM reduced mustard yields by 7.69%, 17.69%, and 29.73%, respectively. TCMV and TCMA were confirmed to be viable intercropping systems for significantly reducing nutrient losses, improving soil quality, and changing soil nutrient distributions to maintain optimum crop yields on sloping lands. Since the pioneering work of Carl Woese, Archaea have fascinated biologists of almost all areas given their unique evolutionary status, wide distribution, high diversity, and ability to grow in special environments. Archaea often thrive in extreme conditions such as high temperature, high/low pH, high salinity, and anoxic ecosystems. All of these are threats to the stability and proper functioning of biological molecules, especially proteins and nucleic acids. Post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as phosphorylation, methylation, acetylation, and glycosylation, are reportedly widespread in Archaea and represent a critical adaptive mechanism to extreme habitats. Here, we summarize our current understanding of the contributions of PTMs to aid in extremophile survival, with a particular focus on the maintenance of genome stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
