Good-quality metallurgical bonding and a high degree of automation are critical for using laser cladding technology in on-site repairs. At present, most of the on-site repairs are carried out manually, which can bring about problems such as complicated operation procedures, uneven repair quality, and personnel injuries. In this study, a surface repair method that combined laser cleaning with cladding (LCC) was proposed. First, the plates were scanned with a high-frequency pulsed laser to remove the surface impurity layer. The surface was then coated with Inconel 625 powder while irradiated with a continuous laser for the cladding. Both the macro-morphology and microstructure of the surface were examined, and mechanical property tests were also conducted. The metallographic and scanning electron microscope images indicated that, compared to the manual polishing and laser cladding process, the LCC specimens had a better metallurgical bonding quality and a thicker clad layer. The average hardness of the clad layer on the LCC specimens was high at 256.47 HV, 36.2% higher than that of the Q345R substrate. Compared to the Q345R specimens of the same size, the LCC specimens showed an increased impact on the energy absorption, yield strength, and tensile strength. Robust and effective fruit detection and localization is essential for robotic harvesting systems. While extensive research efforts have been devoted to improving fruit detection, less emphasis has been placed on the fruit localization aspect, which is a crucial yet challenging task due to limited depth accuracy from existing sensor measurements in the natural orchard environment with variable lighting conditions and foliage/branch occlusions. In this paper, we present the system design and calibration of an Active LAser-Camera Scanner (ALACS), a novel perception module for robust and high-precision fruit localization. The hardware of the ALACS mainly consists of a red line laser, an RGB camera, and a linear motion slide, which are seamlessly integrated into an active scanning scheme where a dynamic-targeting laser-triangulation principle is employed. A high-fidelity extrinsic model is developed to pair the laser illumination and the RGB camera, enabling precise depth computation when the target is captured by both sensors. A random sample consensus-based robust calibration scheme is then designed to calibrate the model parameters based on collected data. Comprehensive evaluations are conducted to validate the system model and calibration scheme. The results show that the proposed calibration method can detect and remove data outliers to achieve robust parameter computation, and the calibrated ALACS system is able to achieve high-precision localization with the maximum depth measurement error being less than 4 mm at distance ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 m. Lipid metabolic diseases have substantial morbidity and mortality rates, posing a significant threat to human health. PPARα, a member of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism and immune regulation. Recent studies have increasingly recognized the pivotal involvement of PPARα in diverse pathological conditions. This comprehensive review aims to elucidate the multifaceted role of PPARα in metabolic diseases including liver diseases, diabetes-related diseases, age-related diseases, and cancers, shedding light on the underlying molecular mechanisms and some regulatory effects of natural/synthetic ligands of PPARα. By summarizing the latest research findings on PPARα, we aim to provide a foundation for the possible therapeutic exploitation of PPARα in lipid metabolic diseases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is among the most prevalent contaminants in cereal crops and has been demonstrated to impair male spermatogenesis and induce oxidative stress, testicular apoptosis, and disruption of the blood–testis barrier (BTB). Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein with multifunctions including anti-inflammation and antioxidation. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of LF on the spermatogenesis and integrity of the BTB in DON-exposed mice. Thirty-two male mice were allotted to four groups for a 35-day feeding period: vehicle (basal diet), DON (12 mg/kg), LF (10 mg/d, p.o.), and DON + LF. The results showed that DON induced vacuolization of the spermatogenic epithelium, broke the adhesion junction between Sertoli cells and spermatids established by N-cadherin and induced testicular oxidative stress. LF administration restored sperm production, attenuated the DON-induced oxidative stress and reduced the breakages in adhesion junction. DON exposure enhanced the protein expression of occludin. Transcriptional profiling of the testis observed a disturbance in the expression profiles of cell adhesion and inflammatory response genes, and LF administration reversed these gene expressions. Furthermore, down-regulated signaling pathways, including the apical junction, TNFα signaling via NF-κB, and TGF-β in the DON group were observed. These were restored by LF. Enrichment analysis between DON + LF group and vehicle also confirmed the absence of these pathways. These findings indicated that LF eliminated the DON-induced detriment to spermatogenesis and cell connections between Sertoli cells and spermatids via improving antioxidant capacity and modifying the inflammatory response and cell adhesion genes. Driving is a ubiquitous activity that requires both motor skills and cognitive focus. These aspects become more problematic for some seniors, who have underlining medical conditions and tend to lose some of these capabilities. Therefore, driving can be used as a controlled environment for the frequent, non-intrusive monitoring of bio-physical and cognitive status within drivers. Such information can then be utilized for enhanced assistive vehicle controls and/or driver health monitoring. In this paper, we present a novel multi-modal smart steering sleeve (S 3 ) system with an integrated sensing platform that can non-intrusively and continuously measure a driver's physiological signals, including electrodermal activity (EDA), electromyography (EMG), and hand pressure. The sensor suite was developed by combining low-cost interdigitated electrodes with a piezoresistive force sensor on a single, flexible polymer substrate. Comprehensive characterizations on the sensing modalities were performed with promising results demonstrated. The sweat-sensing unit (SSU) for EDA monitoring works under a 100 Hz alternative current (AC) source. The EMG signal acquired by the EMG-sensing unit (EMGSU) was amplified to within 5 V. The force-sensing unit (FSU) for hand pressure detection has a range of 25 N. This flexible sensor was mounted on an off-the-shelf steering wheel sleeve, making it an add-on system that can be installed on any existing vehicles for convenient and wide-coverage driver monitoring. A cloud-based communication scheme was developed for the ease of data collection and analysis. Simple Summary: This study investigated the effects of maternal T-2 toxin exposure on the development of testis in the mice offspring. The detrimental effects were assessed by testicular weight, antioxidant capacity, and testosterone synthesis and secretion. Studies have shown that the toxin carried by the mother has bad effects on the testicular development of offspring at puberty, affecting the antioxidant system and testosterone synthesis in the testis, but the maternal exposure of T-2 toxin had no significant impact on the testes of offspring after sexual maturity, suggesting the recovery of reproductive function. T-2 toxin, the most toxic member of trichothecene mycotoxin, is widely distributed in cereals, and has been extensively studied, but few studies focus on the toxicity of maternal exposure to offspring. This study focused on the effects of maternal exposure to T-2 toxin (during gestation and lactation) on the testicular development of mice offspring. Dams were orally administered with T-2 toxin at 0, 0.005, or 0.05 mg/kg body weight from the late stage of gestation to the end of lactation. Testicular samples of the mice offspring were collected on the postnatal day 21, 28, and 56. The results showed significant decreases in body weight and testicular weight on the postnatal day 28. Moreover, significant inhibition of antioxidant system and testosterone synthesis was detected on the postnatal day 28. Furthermore, there were significant decreases in the gene expression levels of StAR and 3β-HSD, which are involved in testosterone synthesis. In general, present results demonstrated that maternal exposure to T-2 toxin during gestation and lactation led to bad effects on the capacity of antioxidant system and inhibited testosterone synthesis in testes during pre-puberty with no significant effects on post-puberty.
