The Common Black Carp Strain (Cyprinus carpio var. baisenensis), known for its black skin, is commonly cultured in the integrated rice-agriculture (IRA) system in Guangxi province, China. This study aimed to compare the genetic diversity of three common carp strains/populations (Common Black Carp Strain, Huanghe, and Songpu) using resequencing data. The genome-based method reveals a significant difference (p < 0.05) in identified loci and SNP frequency (p < 1 × 10−6) between the Songpu (Sp) or mirror carp and Huanghe (Hh) new strain. Additionally, the Common Black Carp Strain (Bk) exhibits a higher number of Tajima's D values, possibly due to its population size and mutations within its entire genome. The average value of population nucleotide diversity (π) for the Bk is 1.706 × 10−4 while the mean number for the Hh and Sp strains is 1.691 × 10−4 Heterozygosity analysis results indicate that the Bk has the highest F coefficient compared to the Sp and Hh hybrids. This suggests that the isolated population of the Bk may have experienced a decrease in population size as a result of environmental disturbances in the IRA system. PCA results further reveal that all individuals of the Bk, except for one, are clustered together, while individuals of the Hh form a separate group. On the other hand, Sp displays a distinct distribution pattern. The comparative study of the genetic diversity of the Bk provides baseline data on its genome makeup. Background: Obesity is a global concern, driving the search for alternative treatments beyond lifestyle changes and medications. Laser acupuncture (LA) shows promise in obesity management, yet few studies compare it with FDA-approved medications. This study aimed to assess and compare LA's impact with liraglutide on weight reduction in obese individuals. Methods: Data from the Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD) (2013–2018) were analyzed. Primary outcomes included changes in body weight and BMI within 180 days, with secondary outcomes measuring the proportion achieving 5%, 10%, and 15% weight loss. Adverse events were also assessed. Results: Of 745 subjects (173 LA users, 572 liraglutide users), LA users lost more weight by day 180 (5.82 ± 4.39 vs. 2.38 ± 5.75 kg; p < 0.001) and had a greater BMI reduction (−2.27 ± 1.73 vs. −0.93 ± 2.25 kg/m2; p < 0.001). More LA users achieved 5% and 10% weight loss compared to liraglutide users (64.2% vs. 22.7%, 26.6% vs. 4.2%; all p < 0.001). After balancing baseline differences, LA's benefits remained significant. No adverse events were reported with LA. Conclusions: LA may offer superior weight reduction compared to liraglutide. Medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) have attracted considerable attention in recent decades due to their exceptional material properties and design flexibility. In this study, lightweight and non-equiatomic MEAs with low density (~5 g/cm3), high strength (yield strength: 1200 MPa), and high ductility (plastic deformation: ≧10%) were explored. We fine-tuned a previously developed Ti-rich MEA by microalloying it with small amounts of Ni (reducing the atomic radius and increasing the elastic modulus) through solid solution strengthening to achieve a series of MEAs with enhanced mechanical properties. Among the prepared MEAs, Ti65Ni1 and Ti65Ni3 exhibited optimal properties in terms of the balance between strength and ductility. Furthermore, the Ti65Ni3 MEA was subjected to thermo-mechanical treatment (TMT) followed by cold rolling 70% (CR70) and cold rolling 85% (CR85). Subsequently, the processed samples were rapidly annealed at 743 °C, 770 °C, 817 °C, and 889 °C at a heating rate of 15 °C/s. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the MEA could retain its single-body-centered cubic solid solution structure after TMT. Additionally, the tensile testing results revealed that increasing the annealing temperature led to a decrease in yield strength and an increase in ductility. Notably, the Ti65Ni3 MEA sample that was subjected to CR70 and CR85 processing and annealed for 30 s exhibited high yield strength (>1250 MPa) and ductility (>13%). Oral cancer represents a significant global public health challenge, contributing substantially to the incidence and mortality of cancer. Despite established risk factors such as tobacco use and alcohol consumption, early detection remains crucial for effective treatment. This study introduces a novel approach using a transistor-based biosensor system for detecting the P90 (CIP2A) protein. We tested the presence of CIP2A in human leukoplakia samples, which can undergo malignant conversion into aggressive oral squamous cell carcinoma. The method used commercially available glucose test strips functionalized with P90 antibodies, providing high sensitivity and a low limit of detection which was five orders lower than that of commercial ELISA kits. A specially designed printed circuit board (PCB) facilitated accurate measurements, and the device's performance was optimized through characteristic tests. Human sample testing validated the biosensor's effectiveness in distinguishing samples after cell lysis. Simple Summary: Diaphorina citri is an important transmission vector of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), the causal agent of citrus Huanglongbing (HLB). The control of HLB mainly depends on the management of D. citri. The efficiency of D. citri nymphs in acquiring CLas bacteria is significantly higher than that of the adults, while the transmission efficiency of CLas bacteria by adults is significantly higher than that of nymphs. Therefore, it is of great significance to research the functions of key genes during the molting of fifth-instar nymphs. In this study, SMRT and Illumina sequencing were performed on D. citri fifth-instar nymphs and adults. SMRT-Seq-generated full-length transcripts provide valuable information for improving functional gene research in D. citri. Additionally, Illumina sequencing revealed that the Hippo pathway played an important role in regulating the transition of D. citri from fifth-instar nymphs to adults. Our findings provide useful reference information and lay a foundation for controlling D. citri. Huanglongbing (HLB) is a systemic plant disease caused by 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas)' and transmitted by Diaphorina citri. D. citri acquires the CLas bacteria in the nymph stage and transmits it in the adult stage, indicating that molting from the nymph to adult stages is crucial for HLB transmission. However, the available D. citri reference genomes are incomplete, and gene function studies have been limited to date. In the current research, PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) and Illumina sequencing were performed to investigate the transcriptome of D. citri nymphs and adults. In total, 10,641 full-length, non-redundant transcripts (FLNRTs), 594 alternative splicing (AS) events, 4522 simple sequence repeats (SSRs), 1086 long-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), 281 transcription factors (TFs), and 4459 APA sites were identified. Furthermore, 3746 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between nymphs and adults were identified, among which 30 DEGs involved in the Hippo signaling pathway were found. Reverse transcription–quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) further validated the expression levels of 12 DEGs and showed a positive correlation with transcriptome data. Finally, the spatiotemporal expression pattern of genes involved in the Hippo signaling pathway exhibited high expression in the D. citri testis, ovary, and egg. Silencing of the D. citri transcriptional co-activator (DcYki) gene significantly increased D. citri mortality and decreased the cumulative molting. Under many interactive environments in the real world, there is often a need to evaluate the minimization effects and subsequent allocation outcomes derived from these interactions under multiple considerations. For instance, in the context of product sales, it is necessary to evaluate how to minimize the manufacturing costs of various producing factors, and sometimes, from a holistic perspective, it may even be necessary to evaluate situations with minimal sales benefits. On the other hand, in order to evaluate related effects derived from interactions and subsequent allocation outcomes, many game-theoretical studies are based on interactive models to formulate evaluating mechanisms, and then they apply axiomatic processes to analyze the rationality of these mechanisms. Therefore, this study first proposes a mechanism for evaluating the minimization effects and subsequent allocation outcomes under multiple considerations. Additionally, considering that different environmental impacts result from varying participation factors, this study also presents several weighted derivatives based on participation factors and their behaviors. Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is the most prevalent cancer in children, and excessive iron buildup resulting from blood transfusions and chemotherapy potentially has a negative impact on treatment outcomes and prognosis in patients with ALL. Therefore, initiating early iron chelation therapy during ALL treatment is a logical approach. Ideally, the selected iron chelator should also possess anti-leukaemia properties. The aim of the present study was to explore the potential impact and underlying mechanism of deferasirox (DFX) in ALL therapy. This study proved that DFX, an iron chelator, is capable of inducing leukaemia cell death through ferroptosis, which is achievable by increasing the expression of acetylated nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2). More specifically, NRF2 acetylation on Lys599 was facilitated by acetyltransferase-p300/CBP. These findings indicate that DFX could serve as a potent adjunctive medication for patients with ALL. Moreover, DFX may offer dual benefits in ALL treatment, functioning as both an iron chelator and NRF2-modulating agent. Hydnum (Hydnaceae, Cantharellales), one of the edible ectomycorrhizal mushrooms, is of considerable ecological and economic importance. Although previous studies have focused on the genus in China, the diversity still remains incompletely understood. In the present study, in addition to the known species from China being reviewed, six phylogenetic species from the country were described/redescribed, which included a new species: H. erectum, and five known taxa: H. cremeoalbum, H. minus, H. orientalbidum, H. tenuistipitum, and H. treui; H. treui is new to China. Detailed descriptions, color photographs of fresh basidiomata, and line drawings of microstructures of them are presented. A key to the accepted species of Hydnum in China is also provided. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T-cell therapy has greatly improved outcomes for patients with relapsed or refractory hematological malignancies. However, challenges such as treatment resistance, relapse, and severe toxicity still hinder its widespread clinical application. Traditional transcriptome analysis has provided limited insights into the complex transcriptional landscape of both leukemia cells and engineered CAR-T-cells, as well as their interactions within the tumor microenvironment. However, with the advent of single-cell sequencing techniques, a paradigm shift has occurred, providing robust tools to unravel the complexities of these factors. These techniques enable an unbiased analysis of cellular heterogeneity and molecular patterns. These insights are invaluable for precise receptor design, guiding gene-based T-cell modification, and optimizing manufacturing conditions. Consequently, this review utilizes modern single-cell sequencing techniques to clarify the transcriptional intricacies of leukemia cells and CAR-Ts. The aim of this manuscript is to discuss the potential mechanisms that contribute to the clinical failures of CAR-T immunotherapy. We examine the biological characteristics of CAR-Ts, the mechanisms that govern clinical responses, and the intricacies of adverse events. By exploring these aspects, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of CAR-T therapy, which will ultimately lead to improved clinical outcomes and broader therapeutic applications. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of cases continued to rise. As a result, there was a growing demand for alternative control methods to traditional buttons or touch screens. However, most current gesture recognition technologies rely on machine vision methods. However, this method can lead to suboptimal recognition results, especially in situations where the camera is operating in low-light conditions or encounters complex backgrounds. This study introduces an innovative gesture recognition system for large movements that uses a combination of millimeter wave radar and a thermal imager, where the multi-color conversion algorithm is used to improve palm recognition on the thermal imager together with deep learning approaches to improve its accuracy. While the user performs gestures, the mmWave radar captures point cloud information, which is then analyzed through neural network model inference. It also integrates thermal imaging and palm recognition to effectively track and monitor hand movements on the screen. Coccidioidomycosis is caused by Coccidioides posadasii (Cp) and Coccidioides immitis (Ci), which have a 4–5% difference in their genomic sequences. There is an urgent need to develop a human vaccine against both species. A previously created recombinant antigen (rCpa1) that contains multiple peptides derived from Cp isolate C735 is protective against the autologous isolate. The focus of this study is to evaluate cross-protective efficacy and immune correlates by the rCpa1-based vaccine against both species of Coccidioides. DNA sequence analyses of the homologous genes for the rCpa1 antigen were conducted for 39 and 17 clinical isolates of Cp and Ci, respectively. Protective efficacy and vaccine-induced immunity were evaluated for both C57BL/6 and human HLA-DR4 transgenic mice against five highly virulent isolates of Cp and Ci. There are total of seven amino acid substitutions in the rCpa1 antigen between Cp and Ci. Both C57BL/6 and HLA-DR4 mice that were vaccinated with an rCpa1 vaccine had a significant reduction of fungal burden and increased numbers of IFN-γ- and IL-17-producing CD4+ T cells in the first 2 weeks post challenge. These data suggest that rCpa1 has cross-protection activity against Cp and Ci pulmonary infection through activation of early Th1 and Th17 responses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Climate change has exacerbated severe rainfall events, leading to rapid and unpredictable fluctuations in river water levels. This environment necessitates the development of real-time, automated systems for water level detection. Due to degradation, traditional methods relying on physical river gauges are becoming progressively unreliable. This paper presents an innovative methodology that leverages ResNet-50, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, to identify distinct water level features in Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) river imagery of the Chengmei Bridge on the Keelung River in Neihu District, Taiwan, under various weather conditions. This methodology creates a virtual water gauge system for the precise and timely detection of water levels, thereby eliminating the need for dependable physical gauges. Our study utilized image data from 1 March 2022 to 28 February 2023. This river, crucial to the ecosystems and economies of numerous cities, could instigate a range of consequences due to rapid increases in water levels. The proposed system integrates grid-based methods with infrastructure like CCTV cameras and Raspberry Pi devices for data processing. This integration facilitates real-time water level monitoring, even without physical gauges, thus reducing deployment costs. Preliminary results indicate an accuracy range of 83.6% to 96%, with clear days providing the highest accuracy and heavy rainfall the lowest. Future work will refine the model to boost accuracy during rainy conditions. Despite the formidable treatment challenges of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), considerable progress has been made in improving drug delivery via pioneering nanocarriers. These innovations are geared towards overcoming the obstacles presented by dysplastic stroma and fostering anti-PDAC immune reactions. We are currently conducting research aimed at enhancing chemotherapy to stimulate anti-tumor immunity by inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD). This is accomplished using lipid bilayer-coated nanocarriers, which enable the attainment of synergistic results. Noteworthy examples include liposomes and lipid-coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles known as "silicasomes". These nanocarriers facilitate remote chemotherapy loading, as well as the seamless integration of immunomodulators into the lipid bilayer. In this communication, we elucidate innovative ways for further improving chemo-immunotherapy. The first is the development of a liposome platform engineered by the remote loading of irinotecan while incorporating a pro-resolving lipoxin in the lipid bilayer. This carrier interfered in stromal collagen deposition, as well as boosting the irinotecan-induced ICD response. The second approach was to synthesize polymer nanoparticles for the delivery of mutated KRAS peptides in conjunction with a TLR7/8 agonist. The dual delivery vaccine particle boosted the generation of antigen-specific cytotoxic T-cells that are recruited to lymphoid structures at the cancer site, with a view to strengthening the endogenous vaccination response achieved by chemo-immunotherapy. Interleukin (IL)-8 plays a vital role in regulating inflammation and breast cancer formation by activating CXCR1/2. We previously designed an antagonist peptide, (RF16), to inhibits the activation of downstream signaling pathways by competing with IL-8 in binding to CXCR1/2, thereby inhibiting IL-8-induced chemoattractant monocyte binding. To evaluate the effect of the RF16 peptide on breast cancer progression, triple-negative MDA-MB-231 and ER-positive MCF-7 breast cancer cells were used to investigate whether RF16 can inhibit the IL-8-induced breast cancer metastasis. Using growth, proliferation, and invasiveness assays, the results revealed that RF16 reduced cell proliferation, migration, and invasiveness in MDA-MB-231 cells. The RF16 peptide also regulated the protein and mRNA expressions of epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers in IL-8-stimulated MDA-MB-231 cells. It also inhibited downstream IL-8 signaling and the IL-8-induced inflammatory response via the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathways. In the xenograft tumor mouse model, RF16 synergistically reinforces the antitumor efficacy of docetaxel by improving mouse survival and retarding tumor growth. Our results indicate that RF16 significantly inhibited IL-8-stimulated cell growth, migration, and invasion in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells by blocking the activation of p38 and AKT cascades. VR has shown positive growth in the world in recent years, which is mainly due to projects such as learning, games, entertainment and experiential activities. VR has changed the way of life of users, providing users with more interesting interactions and immersive experiences. This study aims to investigate students' practical capabilities and learning effectiveness under the instruction strategy of integrating virtual reality into simulation games into the Vehicle Body Electrical System Comprehensive Maintenance and Repair Services Practice curriculum for students of the Dept. of Auto Mechanics in a skills-based senior high school. Two student classes of the Dept. of Auto Mechanics major in Electrical Engineering featuring practical subjects in one skills-based senior high school in central Taiwan were chosen as the participants for this study. By way of pretest–post-test research design and heterogeneous grouping, an 8-week instruction experiment was conducted in which ZPD (zone of proximal development) instruction strategies were used in the experimental group (with 43 persons), while traditional didactic instruction strategies were used in the control group (with 36 persons). ZPD instructional strategies analyze and collect quantitative and qualitative data to investigate the instructional effectiveness and feasibility in developing ZPD as the research material in the practical curriculum for the study area of the Power Machinery in Vehicle Body Electrical System Comprehensive Maintenance and Repair Services practice. According to the research objective, the results are concluded as follows. (1) Students achieved the best learning effectiveness when adopting ZPD (zone of proximal development) strategies in which virtual reality was integrated into the vehicle charging and starting system to investigate students' automotive diagnostic troubleshooting and fault-clearing capabilities. (2) Students attained the highest acceptance in learning phenomenon when adopting ZPD (zone of proximal development) strategies in which virtual reality was integrated into students' familiar practice factory environment and the tools and equipment operation process. (3) Students had a higher acceptance of learning effectiveness when using virtual reality simulation games in the disassembly and functional detection of vehicle charging and starting systems. (4) There is a positive effect when integrating virtual reality simulation games into ZPD instruction strategies in the knowledge, skills and attitude on students' overall inquiry practical capabilities and their learning effectiveness. Simple Summary: Interval-compressed chemotherapy was evaluated in Asian children and young adults with sarcomas to assess the feasibility of this treatment strategy. Ultimately, the goal is to improve survival in this group of individuals with high-risk malignancies without increasing short-term or long-term toxicities. The feasibility of this strategy in Asian patients with sarcomas needed to be established prior to evaluating the efficacy of this approach in a prospective trial. Twelve Asian patients with sarcoma received interval-compressed (ic-) chemotherapy scheduled every 14 days with a regimen of vincristine (2 mg/m2), doxorubicin (75 mg/m2), and cyclophosphamide (1200–2200 mg/m2) (VDC) alternating with a regimen of ifosfamide (9000 mg/m2) and etoposide (500 mg/m2) (IE), with filgrastim (5–10 mcg/kg/day) between cycles. Carboplatin (800 mg/m2) was added for CIC-rearranged sarcoma. The patients were treated with 129 cycles of ic-VDC/IE with a median interval of 19 days (interquartile range [IQR], 15–24 days. Median nadirs (IQR) were neutrophil count, 134 (30–396) × 106/L at day 11 (10–12), recovery by day 15 (14–17) and platelet count, 35 (23–83) × 109/L at day 11 (10–13), recovery by day 17 (14–21). Fever and bacteremia were observed in 36% and 8% of cycles, respectively. The diagnoses were Ewing sarcoma (6), rhabdomyosarcoma (3), myoepithelial carcinoma (1), malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (1), and CIC-DUX4 Sarcoma (1). Seven of the nine patients with measurable tumors responded (one CR and six PR). Interval-compressed chemotherapy is feasible in the treatment of Asian children and young adults with sarcomas. The half life of recombinant factor VIII-Fc (rFVIII-Fc) for people with hemophilia A (PwHA) varies greatly. Understanding the factors influencing the variation and assessment of rFVIII-Fc half life is important for personalized treatment. Eighty-five severe-type PwHA with rFVIII-Fc treatment receiving an evaluation of half life by the Web-Accessible Population Pharmacokinetic (PK) Service—Hemophilia during 2019–2021 were retrospectively enrolled. The 50-patient PK profiles before 2021 were used for analysis and developing prediction models of half life, and the 35-patient PK profiles in 2021 were used for external validation. The patients in the development cohort were aged 8–64, with a median rFVIII-Fc half life of 20.75 h (range, 8.25–41.5 h). By multivariate linear regression analysis, we found two, four, and five predictors of rFVIII-Fc half life for the blood groups non-O, O patients, and overall patients, respectively, including baseline VWF:Ag, BMI, VWF:activity/VWF:Ag ratio, body weight, O blood group, inhibitor history, HCV infection, and hematocrit. The three prediction equations of rFVIII-Fc half life (T) were respectively developed as T for non-O group patients = −0.81 + 0.63 × (BMI, kg/m2) + 6.07 × (baseline VWF:Ag, IU/mL), T for O group patients = −0.68 + 13.30 × (baseline VWF:Ag, IU/mL) + 0.27 × (BW, kg) − 1.17 × (BMI, kg/m2) + 16.02 × (VWF:activity/VWF:Ag ratio), and T for overall patients = −1.76 + 7.24 × (baseline VWF:Ag, IU/mL) − 3.84 × (Inhibitor history) + 2.99 × (HCV infection) − 2.83 × (O blood group) + 0.30 × (Hct, %), which explained 51.97%, 75.17%, and 66.38% of the half life variability, respectively. For external validation, there was a significant correlation between the predicted and observed half lives in the validation cohort. The median half life deviation was +1.53 h, +1.28 h, and +1.79 h for the equations of non-O group, O group, and overall group patients, respectively. In total, eight predictors influencing rFVIII-Fc half life were identified. Prediction equations of rFVIII-Fc half life were developed for the non-O and O blood groups and overall PwHA with a good degree of external validation. The present paper is dedicated to investigating weighted allocation rules under fuzzy multicriteria situations. In real-world situations, participants may represent administrative departments of different natures in the management system; participants may be able to perform their duties in the economic model. In addition, participants may adopt relative operating levels to different situations and effectively engage multiple objectives under operational processes. Therefore, considering fuzzy behavior and multicriteria situations, it is reasonable to assign corresponding weights to participants and their relative behavior and to allocate efficiency according to weights in proportion to relative weights, even if it will lead to an asymmetrical situation. In existing studies on fuzzy allocation rules, weights are always given to "participants" or their "operating levels" and then the differences between participants and their operating levels are adjusted. Inspired by the above considerations, relative major results are as follows. (1) By simultaneously assigning weights to participants and their operating levels (strategies), this study seeks to use the supreme marginal variations among operating level vectors to define a new asymmetric allocation rule under fuzzy multicriteria situations. (2) This study further utilizes axiomatic results to illustrate the expedience for this weighted fuzzy asymmetric allocation rule. To ensure clean drinking water, viable pathogens in water must be rapidly and efficiently screened. The traditional culture or spread-plate process—the conventional standard for bacterial detection—is laborious, time-consuming, and unsuitable for rapid detection. Therefore, we developed a colorimetric assay for rapid microorganism detection using a metabolism-based approach. The reaction between a viable microorganism and the combination of 2-(2-methoxy-4-nitrophenyl)-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium sodium salt (WST-8) and 1-methoxy-5-methylphenazinium methyl sulfate (mPMS) results in a color change. In combination with a microplate reader, WST-8-mPMS reactivity was leveraged to develop a colorimetric assay for the rapid detection of various bacteria. The detection limit of the WST-8-mPMS assay for both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria was evaluated. This WST-8-mPMS assay can be used to perform colorimetrical semi-quantitative detection of various bacterial strains in buffers or culture media within 1 h without incubation before the reaction. In the framework of traditional transferable-utility (TU) models, the participants are either entirely involved or not involved in interactive processes with some other participants. Based on the distribution notion of the equal allocation of non-separable costs (EANSC), all participants first receive their marginal contributions and further distribute the remaining utilities equally. In real-world situations, however, participants might adopt different participation levels to participate. Moreover, participants might represent coalitions of different scales; participants might have corresponding influences under different situations. Thus, in this paper we propose a generalization of the EANSC by considering weights and replicated notions under conditions of multi-choice behavior simultaneously. In order to dissect the mathematical accuracy and the applied rationality of this expanded EANSC, a specific reduction is introduced to present an axiomatic result and a dynamic process, respectively. Multiple myeloma is a hematological malignancy characterized by the unrestricted proliferation of plasma cells that secrete monoclonal immunoglobulins in the bone marrow. Alpha-momorcharin (α-MMC) is a type I ribosome-inactivating protein extracted from the seeds of the edible plant Momordica charantia L., which has a variety of biological activities. This study aimed to investigate the inhibitory effect of α-MMC on the proliferation of multiple myeloma MM.1S cells and the molecular mechanism of MM.1S cell death induced through the activation of cell signal transduction pathways. The cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay was used to determine the inhibitory effect of α-MMC on the proliferation of MM.1S cells and its toxic effect on normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). The effect of α-MMC on the MM.1S cells' morphology was observed via inverted microscope imaging. The effects of α-MMC on the MM.1S cell cycle, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and apoptosis were explored using propidium iodide, JC-1, annexin V- fluorescein isothiocyanate/propidium iodide fluorescence staining, and flow cytometry (FCM) analysis. Western blot was used to detect the expressions levels of apoptosis-related proteins and MAPK-signaling-pathway-related proteins in MM.1S cells induced by α-MMC. The results of the CCK-8 showed that in the concentration range of no significant toxicity to PBMCs, α-MMC inhibited the proliferation of MM.1S cells in a time-dependent and concentration-dependent manner, and the IC50 value was 13.04 and 7.518 μg/mL for 24 and 48 h, respectively. Through inverted microscope imaging, it was observed that α-MMC induced a typical apoptotic morphology in MM.1S cells. The results of the FCM detection and analysis showed that α-MMC could arrest the MM.1S cells cycle at the G2 phase, decrease the MMP, and induce cell apoptosis. Western blot analysis found that α-MMC upregulated the expression levels of Bax, Bid, cleaved caspase-3, and cleaved PARP, and downregulated the expression levels of Mcl-1. At the same time, α-MMC decreased the expression levels of p-c-Raf, p-MEK1/2, p-ERK1/2, p-MSK1, and p-P90RSK, and increased the expression levels of p-p38, p-SPAK/JNK, p-c-Jun, and p-ATF2. The above results suggest that α-MMC can inhibit the proliferation of multiple myeloma MM.1S cells. The 12-Year Basic Education Curricula not only follow the objectives of previous curriculum syllabus development, but they place more focus on competence-oriented instruction, which aims to emphasize the importance of combining the curriculum with life situations that are not solely based on learning knowledge and skills. This study aims to investigate the results of the students' learning effectiveness and learning engagement after adding competence-oriented instructional strategies into electrical engineering practical subjects offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering in skills-based senior high schools, and, at the same time, to figure out the difference in learning effectiveness using different instructional strategies. Two classes of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering major in electrical engineering practical subjects in one skills-based senior high school in Central Taiwan were chosen as the participants for this study. By way of pre-test–post-test research design and heterogeneous grouping, a 10-week instruction experiment consisting of two groups and occurring over the course of 30 classes was conducted, wherein competence-oriented instructional strategies were used in an experimental group, while traditional didactic instructional strategies were used in a control group. By analyzing the collection of quantitative and qualitative data through competence-oriented instructional strategies, the instruction effectiveness and feasibility of the basic electricity practical curriculum were developed as the study topic for understanding how competence-oriented instruction can be implemented into the practical curriculum of the electrical engineering and electronic engineering group. According to the research objective, the results were concluded as follows: (1) Students of the Department of Electrical Engineering have a slightly better learning effectiveness in electrical engineering practice under competence-oriented instructional strategies compared with those who learned under the traditional didactic instructional strategies; (2) there is a significant difference in the students' learning engagement in electrical engineering practice from the Department of Electrical Engineering under competence-oriented instructional strategies compared with those who learned under the traditional didactic instructional strategies. The conclusion of this study emphasizes designing questions based on life situations, thereby applying what students have learned to solve problems they encounter in their daily lives. Plastic trash can be found anywhere, around the marina, beaches, and coastal areas in recent times. This study proposes a trash dataset called HAIDA and a trash detector that uses a YOLOv4-based object detection algorithm to monitor coastal trash pollution efficiently. Model selection, model evaluation, and hyperparameter tuning were applied to obtain the best model for the lowest generalization error in the real world. Comparison of the state-of-the-art object detectors based on YOLOv3, YOLOv4, and Scaled-YOLOv4 that used hyperparameter tuning, the three-way holdout method, and k-fold cross-validation have been presented. Einstein described the relationship between mass and energy using the theory of special relativity by a simple equation, E = m c 2 . Mass–energy equivalence implies that mass can be converted into energy and vice versa. In this study, a virtual reality (VR) system was developed for learners to take a spacecraft travelling at nearly the speed of light to conduct space exploration and understand the concepts of special relativity and mass–energy equivalence. A teaching experiment was conducted to investigate the learning effectiveness and cognitive load of learners by recruiting 60 students as research samples. The experimental group (30 students) used the VR system and the control group (30 students) used physics textbooks for learning special relativity and mass–energy equivalence. The experimental results reveal that the learning effectiveness of the experimental group is higher than that of the control group while the cognitive load of the former is lower than that of the latter. The questionnaire results show that students of the control group had responded positively to learning content, cognitive usefulness, cognitive ease of use, and user satisfaction, indicating that they were satisfied with the learning experience of the VR system. This study aims to explore the perceptions and attitudes of national elementary school teachers toward environmental education to understand the difference between different teachers' background variables on environmental education cognition and attitude and the correlation between cognition and attitude. This research adopts the questionnaire survey method and takes elementary school teachers from the second largest city in Taiwan, Taichung City, as the research sample. Stratified random sampling was adopted, and 636 questionnaires were distributed. In total, 536 questionnaires were effectively recovered, and the effective recovery rate was 84.27%. The descriptive statistical analysis of sample data, an independent sample T-test, a one-way analysis of variance, Scheffe's comparison test, and Pearson's product-difference correlation were used for analysis. The study results are: (1) Elementary school teachers in Taichung City have good environmental education and teaching cognition and environmental issue cognition. (2) The attitudes toward the environmental education of elementary school teachers in Taichung are positive and active. (3) Senior and experienced elementary school teachers in Taichung City have a high awareness of environmental education due to their participation in many workshops and environmental protection activities. Therefore, there are significant differences in the cognition and attitude of environmental education from elementary school teachers. (4) There is a significant correlation between the cognition and attitude of elementary school teachers in Taichung City toward environmental education. Aspergillus flavus and the produced aflatoxins cause great hazards to food security and human health across all countries. The control of A. flavus and aflatoxins in grains during storage is of great significance to humans. In the current study, bacteria strain YM6 isolated from sea sediment was demonstrated effective in controlling A. flavus by the production of anti-fungal volatiles. According to morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, strain YM6 was identified as Pseudomonas stutzeri. YM6 can produce abundant volatile compounds which could inhibit mycelial growth and conidial germination of A. flavus. Moreover, it greatly prevented fungal infection and aflatoxin production on maize and peanuts during storage. The inhibition rate was 100%. Scanning electron microscopy further supported that the volatiles could destroy the cell structure of A. flavus and prevent conidia germination on the grain surface. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry revealed that dimethyl trisulfide (DMTS) with a relative abundance of 13% is the most abundant fraction in the volatiles from strain YM6. The minimal inhibitory concentration of DMTS to A. flavus conidia is 200 µL/L (compound volume/airspace volume). Thus, we concluded that Pseudomonas stutzeri YM6 and the produced DMTS showed great inhibition to A. flavus, which could be considered as effective biocontrol agents in further application. Background: Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) occurs in the gastrointestinal tract and injured intestinal mucosa is the anatomical basis for various diseases. The expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs) is implicated in many diseases; however, the role of circRNAs in intestinal mucosal injury is yet to be discovered. Our preliminary gene microarray analysis revealed a novel circular RNA, circMaml2, with a significant intestinal mucosal protection effect. Its expression was found to decrease in severely burned intestinal mucosal tissue, whereas its overexpression might facilitate the reconstruction of the injured intestinal mucous membrane. Methods: The function of circMaml2 in cell proliferation and migration was studied in MC38 cells. The repair function of circMaml2 was tested on the intestinal mucosa of mice. RNA-binding protein polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1(PTBP1) was selected by pull-down assay and mass spectrometry (MS). RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) was performed to confirm the binding of circMaml2 and PTBP1 and to study PTBP1 and its downstream target, early B-cell factor 1(Ebf1). Bioinformatics software forecast analysis and dual-luciferase reporter assay were performed to ascertain miR-683 and Sec62 as the downstream targets of circMaml2 and miR-683, respectively. Furthermore, PRP8 was discovered to promote the biogenesis of circMaml2. Results: CircMaml2 promotes cell proliferation and migration of MC38 cells and the repair of the intestinal mucosa of mice. This effect is brought about by combining with PTBP1 to improve Ebf1 and interacting with miR-683 to regulate Sec2. Furthermore, PRP8 was discovered to promote the biogenesis of circMaml2. The original ALBI and mALBI grades were independent predictors of OS in all the enrolled patients and those receiving transarterial chemoembolization. In patients receiving curative therapy (radiofrequency ablation and surgical resection), the mALBI grade (grade 2 vs. 1 and grade 3 vs. 2) was an independent predictor of OS. Despite the fact that amphiphilic block copolymers have been studied in detail by various methods both in common solvents and aqueous dispersions, their hydrodynamic description is still incomplete. In this paper, we present a detailed hydrodynamic study of six commercial diblock copolymers featuring the same hydrophilic block (poly(ethylene glycol), PEG; degree of polymerization is ca. 110 ± 25) and the following hydrophobic blocks: polystyrene, PS35-b-PEG115; poly(methyl methacrylate), PMMA55-b-PEG95; poly(1,4-butadyene), PBd90-b-PEG130; polyethylene PE40-b-PEG85; poly(dimethylsiloxane), PDMS15-b-PEG115; and poly(ɛ-caprolactone), PCL45-b-PEG115. The hydrodynamic properties of block copolymers are investigated in both an organic solvent (tetrahydrofuran) and in water micellar dispersions by the combination of static/dynamic light scattering, viscometry, and analytical ultracentrifugation. All the micellar dispersions demonstrate bimodal particle distributions: small compact (hydrodynamic redii, Rh ≤ 17 nm) spherical particles ascribed to "conventional" core–shell polymer micelles and larger particles ascribed to micellar clusters. Hydrodynamic invariants are (2.4 ± 0.4) × 10−10 g cm2 s−2 K−1 mol−1/3 for all types of micelles used in the study. For aqueous micellar dispersions, in view of their potential biomedical applications, their critical micelle concentration values and cytotoxicities are also reported. The investigated micelles are stable towards precipitation, possess low critical micelle concentration values (with the exception of PDMS15-b-PEG115), and demonstrate low toxicity towards Chinese Hamster Ovarian (CHO-K1) cells. Observations of a symptomatic discoid lateral meniscus in young children are infrequent. The objective of this report was to demonstrate the use of arthroscopic saucerization and repair for treating a bucket-handle tear of a lateral discoid meniscus in two young children. Two young children (a 28-month-old girl and a 5-year-old boy) presented with a bucket-handle tear of the complete type lateral discoid meniscus. Both patients received arthroscopic saucerization and repair. A full knee extension under a long leg cast was applied for one month after surgery. The two patients were able to achieve a full range of motion of their operated knees without limping or presenting an antalgic gait at the third month after surgery. Both patients and their parents felt satisfied with the treatment at the 2- and 3-year follow-ups, respectively. Our results demonstrated that arthroscopic saucerization and repair seems to be an effective treatment for bucket-handle tears of the lateral discoid meniscus in young children—even those younger than 3 years old. Most medium entropy alloys (MEAs) exhibit excellent mechanical properties, but their applications are limited because of their high density. This study explores a series of lightweight nonequiatomic Ti65(AlCrNbV)35-xZrx (x = 3, 5, 7, and 10) MEAs with a low density, high strength, and high ductility. To achieve solid solution strengthening, Zr with a large atomic radius was used. In addition, various thermomechanical treatment parameters were adopted to further improve the MEAs' mechanical properties. The density of the MEAs was revealed to be approximately 5 g/cm3, indicating that they were lightweight. Through an X-ray diffraction analysis, the MEAs were revealed to have a single body-centered cubic structure not only in the as-cast state but also after thermomechanical treatment. In terms of mechanical properties, all the as-cast MEAs with Zr additions achieved excellent performance (>1000 MPa tensile yield strength and 20% tensile ductility). In addition, hot rolling effectively eliminated the defects of the MEAs; under a given yield strength, hot-rolled MEAs exhibited superior ductility relative to non-hot-rolled MEAs. Overall, the Ti65(AlCrNbV)28Zr7 MEAs exhibited an optimum combination of mechanical properties (yield strength > 1200 MPa, plastic strain > 15%) after undergoing hot rolling 50%, cold rolling 70%, and rapid annealing for 30 to 50 s (at a temperature of approximately 850 °C) with a heating rate of 15 K/s. With their extremely high specific yield strength (264 MPa·g/cm3) and high ductility (22%), the Ti65(AlCrNbV)28Zr7 MEAs demonstrate considerable potential for energy and transportation applications. Third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Escherichia coli (CREC), particularly strains producing extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), are a global concern. Our study aims to longitudinally assemble the genomic characteristics of CREC isolates from fecal samples from an index patient with recurrent CREC-related urinary tract infections and his family and swabs from his home environment 12 times between 2019 and 2021 to investigate the distribution of antibiotic resistance genes. CREC identified using the VITEK 2 were subjected to nanopore whole-genome sequencing (WGS). The WGS of 27 CREC isolates discovered in 137 specimens (1 urine, 123 feces, and 13 environmental) revealed the predominance of ST101 and ST131. Among these sequence types, blaCTX-M (44.4%, n = 12) was the predominant ESBL gene family, with blaCTX-M-14 (n = 6) being the most common. The remaining 15 (55.6%) isolates harbored blaCMY-2 genes and were clonally diverse. All E. coli isolated from the index patient's initial urine and fecal samples belonged to O25b:H4-B2-ST131 and carried blaCTX-M-14. The results of sequence analysis indicate plasmid-mediated household transmission of blaCMY-2 or blaCTX-M-55. A strong genomic similarity was discovered between fecal ESBL-producing E. coli and uropathogenic strains. In the present work, we described the preparation and characterization of the micelles based on amphiphilic poly(ε-caprolactone-block-ethylene glycol) block copolymer (PCL-b-PEG) loaded with non-symmetric [Pt(C^N*N'^C')] complex (Pt1) (where C^N*N'^C': 6-(phenyl(6-(thiophene-2-yl)pyridin-2-yl)amino)-2-(tyophene-2-yl)nicotinate). The obtained nanospecies displayed the ignition of near-infrared (NIR) phosphorescence upon an increase in the content of the platinum complexes in the micelles, which acted as the major emission component at 12 wt.% of Pt1. Emergence of the NIR band at 780 nm was also accompanied by a 3-fold growth of the quantum yield and an increase in the two-photon absorption cross-section that reached the value of 450 GM. Both effects are believed to be the result of progressive platinum complex aggregation inside hydrophobic poly(caprolactone) cores of block copolymer micelles, which has been ascribed to aggregation induced emission (AIE). The resulting phosphorescent (Pt1@PCL-b-PEG) micelles demonstrated pronounced sensitivity towards molecular oxygen, the key intracellular bioanalyte. The detailed photophysical analysis of the AIE phenomena revealed that the NIR emission most probably occurred due to the excimeric excited state of the 3MMLCT character. Evaluation of the Pt1@PCL-b-PEG efficacy as a lifetime intracellular oxygen biosensor carried out in CHO-K1 live cells demonstrated the linear response of the probe emission lifetime towards this analyte accompanied by a pronounced influence of serum albumin on the lifetime response. Nevertheless, Pt1@PCL-b-PEG can serve as a semi-quantitative lifetime oxygen nanosensor. The key result of this study consists of the demonstration of an alternative approach for the preparation of NIR biosensors by taking advantage of in situ generation of NIR emission due to the nanoconfined aggregation of Pt (II) complexes inside the micellar nanocarriers. Melt spinning machines must be set up according to the process parameters that result in the best end product quality. In this study, artificial intelligence algorithms were employed to create a system that detects abnormal processing parameters and suggests strategies to improve quality. Polypropylene (PP) was selected as the experimental material, and the quality achieved by adjusting the melt spinning machine's processing parameter settings was used as the basis for judgement. The processing parameters included screw temperature, gear pump temperature, die head temperature, screw speed, gear pump speed, and take-up speed as the six control factors. The four quality characteristics included fineness, breaking strength, elongation at break, and elastic energy modulus. In the first part of our study, we applied fast deep-learning characteristic grid calculations on a 440-item historical data set to train a deep learning neural network and determine methods for multi-quality optimization. In the second part, with the best processing parameters as a benchmark, and given abnormal quality data derived from processing parameter settings deviating from these optimal values, several machine learning and deep learning methods were compared in their ability to find the settings responsible for the abnormal data, which was randomly split into a 210-item training data set and a 210-item verification data set. The random forest method proved to be the best at identifying responsible parameter settings, with accuracy rates of single and double identification classifications together of 100%, for single factor classification of 98.3%, and for double factor classification of 96.0%, thereby confirming that the diagnostic method proposed in this study can effectively predict product abnormality and find the parameter settings responsible for product abnormality. Purpurogallin (PPG) is a phenolic compound known for its high antioxidant properties in plant-based food materials. However, there is no easy and reliable method for direct determination of PPG in brewed beverages owing to its hydrophobicity, which makes it hard to separate from the background hydrophobic components. Therefore, a method employing solid-phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was developed for detection and quantification of PPG in brewed beverages, and PPG content was quantified in commercial coffee, cocoa, and tea samples. The limits of detection and quantification were 71.8 and 155.6 ng/g dry weight (dw), respectively. The recovery with SPE was 26.6%. When combined with acetonitrile extraction (ANE), the recovery was 6.8%, higher than 2.6% with water extraction (WTE). Test tube extractions were better than moka pot brewing (MPB) for PPG quantification. Total PPG content of ground coffees prepared by ANE, WTE, and MPB ranged between 635 and 770, 455 and 630, and 85 and 135 ng/g dw, respectively. PPG was detected in two English breakfast tea samples (335–360 ng/g dw) using WTE, but not in cocoa samples. ANE showed higher (p < 0.05) PPG levels, but WTE (r = 0.55, p < 0.01) correlated better with MPB than ANE (r = 0.43, p < 0.01). The result indicated that WTE is the best method to determine PPG in brewed beverages. This work demonstrated that PPG was significant in brewed coffee, and our pioneer study in developing the method for beverage sample preparation and LC-MS analysis has made possible industrial applications and provided new perspectives for future research. Background: The traditional Lund-Mackay score (TLMs) is unable to subgrade the volume of inflammatory disease. We aimed to propose an effective modification and calculated the volume-based modified LM score (VMLMs), which should correlate more strongly with clinical symptoms than the TLMs. Methods: Semi-supervised learning with pseudo-labels used for self-training was adopted to train our convolutional neural networks, with the algorithm including a combination of MobileNet, SENet, and ResNet. A total of 175 CT sets, with 50 participants that would undergo sinus surgery, were recruited. The Sinonasal Outcomes Test-22 (SNOT-22) was used to assess disease-specific symptoms before and after surgery. A 3D-projected view was created and VMLMs were calculated for further comparison. Results: Our methods showed a significant improvement both in sinus classification and segmentation as compared to state-of-the-art networks, with an average Dice coefficient of 91.57%, an MioU of 89.43%, and a pixel accuracy of 99.75%. The sinus volume exhibited sex dimorphism. There was a significant positive correlation between volume and height, but a trend toward a negative correlation between maxillary sinus and age. Subjects who underwent surgery had significantly greater TLMs (14.9 vs. 7.38) and VMLMs (11.65 vs. 4.34) than those who did not. ROC-AUC analyses showed that the VMLMs had excellent discrimination at classifying a high probability of postoperative improvement with SNOT-22 reduction. Conclusions: Our method is suitable for obtaining detailed information, excellent sinus boundary prediction, and differentiating the target from its surrounding structure. A functional permanent vascular access (VA) is required to perform a successful hemodialysis procedure. Hemodialysis VA dysfunction is a major cause of morbidity and hospitalization in the hemodialysis population. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in patients receiving chronic hemodialysis. Information about CVD associated with hemodialysis VA dysfunction is unclear. We analyzed the association between dialysis VA dysfunction and the risk of developing CVD in hemodialysis patients. This nationwide population-based cohort study was conducted using data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. One million subjects were sampled from 23 million beneficiaries and data was collected from 2000 to 2013. Patients with end-stage renal disease who had received permanent VA construction and hemodialysis and were aged at least 20 years old from 2000 to 2007 were included in the study population. The primary outcome was CVD, as defined by ICD-9-CM codes 410–414 and 430–437. A total of 197 individuals with permanent VA dysfunction were selected as the test group, and 100 individuals with non-permanent VA dysfunction were selected as the control group. Compared with the control group, the adjusted hazard ratio of CVD for the VA dysfunction group was 3.05 (95% CI: 1.14–8.20). A Kaplan–Meier analysis revealed that the cumulative incidence of CVD was higher in the permanent VA dysfunction group than in the comparison group. For tiling of the SARS-CoV-2 genome, the ARTIC Network provided a V4 protocol using 99 pairs of primers for amplicon production and is currently the widely used amplicon-based approach. However, this technique has regions of low sequence coverage and is labour-, time-, and cost-intensive. Moreover, it requires 14 pairs of primers in two separate PCRs to obtain spike gene sequences. To overcome these disadvantages, we proposed a single PCR to efficiently detect spike gene mutations. We proposed a bioinformatic protocol that can process FASTQ reads into spike gene consensus sequences to accurately call spike protein variants from sequenced samples or to fairly express the cases of missing amplicons. We evaluated the in silico detection rate of primer sets that yield amplicon sizes of 400, 1200, and 2500 bp for spike gene sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to be 59.49, 76.19, and 92.20%, respectively. The in silico detection rate of our proposed single PCR primers was 97.07%. We demonstrated the robustness of our analytical protocol against 3000 Oxford Nanopore sequencing runs of distinct datasets, thus ensuring high-integrity sequencing of spike genes for variant SARS-CoV-2 determination. This study proposes a marine trash detection system based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and aims to replace manpower with UAVs to detect marine trash efficiently and provide information to government agencies regarding real-time trash pollution. Internet technology and computer–machine interaction were applied in this study, which involves the deployment of a marine trash detection system on a drone's onboard computer for real-time calculations. Images of marine trash were provided to train a modified YOLO model (You Look Only Once networks). The UAV was shown to be able to fly along a predefined path and detect trash in coastal areas. The detection results were sent to a data streaming platform for data processing and analysis. The Kafka message queuing system and the Mongo database were used for data transmission and analysis. It was shown that a real-time drone map monitoring station can be built up at any place where mobile communication is accessible. While a UAV is automatically controlled by an onboard computer, it can also be controlled through a remote station. It was shown that the proposed system can perform data analysis and transmit heatmaps of coastal trash information to a remote site. Early detection of microorganisms is essential for the management of infectious diseases. However, this is challenging, as traditional culture methods are labor-intensive and time-consuming. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide-phenazine methosulfate (MTT-PMS) assay has been used to evaluate the metabolic activity in live cells and can thus be used for detecting living microorganisms. With the addition of NaOH and Tris-EDTA, the same approach can be accelerated (within 15 min) and used for the quick detection of common bacterial pathogens. The assay results can be evaluated colorimetrically or semi-quantitatively. Here, the quick detection by MTT-PMS assay was further investigated. The assay had a detection limit of approximately 104 CFU/mL. In clinical evaluations, we used the MTT-PMS assay to detect clinical samples and bacteriuria (>105 CFU/mL). The negative predictive value of the MTT-PMS assay for determining bacteriuria was 79.59% but was 100% when the interference of abnormal blood was excluded. Thus, the MTT-PMS assay might be a potential "rule-out" tool for bacterial detection in clinical samples, at a cost of approximately USD 1 per test. Symmetry exists in a multitude of phenomena in varying forms. The main aim of this article is to analyze the plausibility of the equal allocation non-separable costs, the efficient Banzhaf–Owen index and the efficient Banzhaf–Coleman index from the perspective of symmetry. First, based on the difference between "participation processes" and "allocating results", different forms of symmetry are proposed. Next, building on these forms of symmetry, axiomatic results are put forth for the three power indexes, whereby the plausibility of the three power indexes is analyzed. Finally, on the basis of these different forms of symmetry and related axiomatic results, this article introduces different dynamic processes to analyze how an initial allocation result approaches the results derived from the three power indexes through dynamically modification. The proliferation of drug-resistant pathogens continues to increase, giving rise to serious public health concerns. Many researchers have formulated metal oxide nanoparticles for use as novel antibacterial agents. In the present study, copper oxide (CuO) was synthesized by simple hydrothermal synthesis, and doping was performed to introduce different polymers onto the NP surface for bacteriostasis optimization. The polymer-modified CuO NPs were analyzed further with XRD, FTIR, TEM, DLS and zeta potential to study their morphology, size, and the charge of the substrate. The results indicate that polymer-modified CuO NPs had a significantly higher bacteriostatic rate than unmodified CuO NPs. In particular, polydopamine (PDA)-modified CuO (CuO-PDA) NPs, which carry a weakly negative surface charge, exhibited excellent antibacterial effects, with a bacteriostatic rate of up to 85.8 ± 0.2% within 3 h. When compared to other polymer-modified CuO NPs, CuO-PDA NPs exhibited superior bacteriostatic activity due to their smaller size, surface charge, and favorable van der Waals interactions. This may be attributed to the fact that the CuO-PDA NPs had relatively lipophilic structures at pH 7.4, which increased their affinity for the lipopolysaccharide-containing outer membrane of the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli.
