The roadway project of broken rock mass in the Shilu Iron Deposit was taken as the research object to discuss the stability control of the surrounding rocks using support patterns with broken rock mass. The grade evaluation of rock mass quality was conducted based on the geomechanical classification of rock mass. The roadway support effect in broken rock mass was calculated. Then, the section convergence characteristics of roadway surrounding rocks were analyzed under the current support scheme using displacement monitoring technology. The conclusions were described as follows: (1) The surrounding rock integrity of the No.6 and No.7 transportation roadways in the middle section of the Baoxiu mining area (Level 120) is poor. Based on geological survey data and rock mass classification, the rock mass quality in this region has been rated as Class IV. The joint support pattern of the anchor net and shotcrete was used according to the support guidelines. (2) The parameters for the support structure within Shilu Iron Deposit were designed, according to the requirements, as follows: the use of Portland cement; a shotcrete thickness of 55 mm; resin bolts with a minimum outer diameter of φ 20 mm and a length of 2200 mm; and row and column spacings of 1100 mm each. Meanwhile, a rectangular metal mesh of 80 × 80 mm was used as the anchor mesh. (3) The cross-section displacement reached 20 mm within a week using the support pattern according to displacement monitoring results of the on-site roadway section. Moreover, the convergence deformation rate significantly changed. However, the rate rapidly decreased after the first week, and the cross-section showed no further deformation after one month. Firmly, the bearing capacity test of 1:1 equal ratio pillar under different constraint forms and different filling medium conditions was carried out. The results show that the binding pillar-forming effect is relatively good. The constraint ability of unconstrained, metal mesh, polyester mesh, hooked iron flat-hoop bushing, bellows, and spiral iron pipe is enhanced, in turn, and the carrying capacity is improved successfully. The homogeneity of high-water materials is better than concrete, and they have better compressibility, but their carrying capacity is relatively weak. The carrying capacity of concrete pillars is generously higher than that of high-water materials, but the compressibility is poor. Second, the migration characteristics of the surrounding rock structure of the gob-side entry retaining and the rule of side support are analyzed, the requirements of the side support are pointed out, and the side-support technology of the binding pillar is proposed. Taking Hijiata Mine's 50108 working face gob-side entry retaining as an example, the bellows pump-filled concrete pillar is used as the side support body, supplemented by handling steel mesh and air-duct cloth, and toughness material is sprayed between the pillars to seal the goaf, meeting the requirements of side support and road stability. The pillar has the characteristics of high early strength, strong final consolidation carrying capacity, good crimping effect, high mechanism degree, fast construction speed, less concrete consumption, low comprehensive cost, etc., and it has a good application prospect in the gob-side entry retaining or rapid advanced working face. Aiming at solving the problem of support failure caused by a large deformation of roadway surrounding rock in a deep soft coal seam, and taking the surrounding rock control of the roadway in the 11-2 coal seam in Zhujidong Coal Mine as the research background, numerical simulation and field industrial test and inspection methods were used to study the support effect of a supporting system of gob-side entry in deep soft coal seam. The deformation characteristics of various supporting systems of metal mesh, diamond mesh, metal mesh with anchor rod, steel ladder beam, M-shaped steel belt, 14#b channel steel, and 11# I-steel in the goaf supporting body of deep soft coal seam were studied under vertical load. The supporting effect of effective compressive stress zone generated by bolt and cable under different row spacings and lengths was analyzed, and the law of variation in the compressive stress field generated by supporting members with supporting parameters was explored. The length and interrow distance of bolt and cable were compared, respectively, and reasonable supporting parameters were selected. Based on the abovementioned research results and the geological conditions of the 1331 (1) track roadway, the support scheme of the 1331 (1) track roadway was designed, and the industrial test was carried out. The results show that the surrounding rock of the roadway is within the effective anchorage range of the supporting body, the active support function of the supporting components has been fully brought into play, and the overall control effect of the surrounding rock of the roadway is good, which can ensure the safety and stability of the goaf roadway. The maximum displacement of the roof and floor of the roadway is 86 mm, the maximum displacement of the solid coal side is 50 mm, the maximum displacement of the coal pillar side is 70 mm, and the maximum separation of layers is 22 mm. There is no failure phenomenon in relation to the anchor bolt and cable, and the overall deformation of the roadway surrounding the rock is good, which can provide some references for roadway-surrounding-rock control under similar conditions in deep coal seams. In stealth applications, there is a growing emphasis on the development of radar-absorbing structures that are efficient, flexible, and optically transparent. This study proposes a screen-printed metamaterial absorber (MMA) on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates using indium tin oxide (ITO) as the grounding layer, which achieves both optical transparency and flexibility. These materials and methods enhance the overall flexibility and transparency of MMA. To address the limited transparency caused by the silver nanoparticle ink for the top pattern, a metal mesh was incorporated to reduce the area ratio of the printed patterns, thereby enhancing transparency. By incrementing the fractal order of the structure, we optimized the operating frequency to target the X-band, which is most commonly used in radar detection. The proposed MMA demonstrates remarkable performance, with a measured absorption of 91.99% at 8.85 GHz and an average optical transmittance of 46.70% across the visible light spectrum (450 to 700 nm), indicating its potential for applications in transparent windows or drone stealth. The Ligurian Sea (NW Mediterranean) has been a focal point for numerous interventions aimed at restoring Posidonia oceanica meadows. The success of pioneer restoration actions in France during the 1970s stimulated similar initiatives across the Mediterranean Sea. Early attempts in the Ligurian Sea were implemented in 1993 and 1996 on limited seabed areas (i.e., tens of square meters) at the two coastal sites of Sori and Rapallo (Liguria, NW Italy). No further initiatives have been reported for the Ligurian Sea until 2022. In that year, a large-scale restoration project, which uses biodegradable mats coupled with metal mesh, began in Liguria. Different levels of anthropogenic pressure and wave exposure characterize the three investigated locations: (1) Portofino, on the eastern Liguria and on the border with the Portofino Marine Protected Area; (2) Bergeggi in the central Liguria and within the Isola di Bergeggi Marine Protected Area; and (3) Sanremo in the western Liguria, without any formal protection. Despite recent setbacks caused by severe storms in late 2023, which particularly damaged the Portofino site, ongoing monitoring revealed promising survival rates. Most notably, the site in Bergeggi displayed a 90% survival rate in September 2023. Although challenges to restore P. oceanica beds persist, such as mitigating damages caused by unpredictable events, this extensive re-implantation initiative offers the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of new basin-scale restoration strategies. Transpiration cooling based on a porous structure has an ultra-high cooling efficiency, which is expected to be one solution to improve the cooling technology of aero-engine turbine blades. However, particulate impurities in the gas flow channel continue to deposit on the surface of turbine components, blocking cooling holes, which causes great harm to the cooling of turbine blades. In this study, a sintered metal mesh plate was selected as the transpiration cooling structure, and the evolution of particle deposition quality and deposition thickness on the transpiration cooling surface with time, as well as spatial distributions of particle deposition thickness at different times, were explored through experimental and simulation methods. The results showed that, with the increase in spray time, deposition quality and maximum deposition thickness of the transpiration cooling surface gradually increased. Along the main-stream direction, when spray time was short, deposition thickness was higher in a narrow range upstream of the experimental specimen. With the increase in spray time, deposition thickness gradually decreased along the direction of the transpiration cooling mainstream. In the spanwise direction, when spray time was very short, deposition thickness in the spanwise direction was more consistent and, after spray time increased further, the deposition thickness distribution began to tend to a "∩"-type distribution. It can be seen from the simulation results of the metal wire mesh particle deposition that particles were easily deposited on the windward side of the metal wire in the main-stream direction, which agreed with the experimental distribution characteristics of the metal wire mesh deposition. This study explores the possibility of designing simple semitransparent antennas that allow for the passage of most visible light while maintaining good electromagnetic performance. We propose a substrateless metal mesh patch antenna manufactured using low-cost 3D printing and silver conductive paint. Our goal is to integrate numerous such radiators onto office building windows, preserving natural lighting with minimal visual impact, aiming to alleviate infrastructure congestion or improve antenna placement in sub-6 GHz frequency bands. In this paper, we conduct an analysis of the primary parameters influencing patches constructed with substrateless metal mesh wires, focusing on the grid topology and the width of the metallic wires, as well as their effects on antenna transparency and back radiation. Owing to the absence of a substrate, the antenna demonstrates minimal losses. Furthermore, in this study, we thoroughly investigate the effects of conductivity and roughness on surfaces printed with metallic paint. A prototype at 2.6 GHz is presented, achieving over 60% transparency, a 2.7% impedance-matching bandwidth, and a realized peak gain of 5.4 dBi. The antenna is easy to manufacture and cost-effective and considers sustainability. Its large-scale implementation can alleviate building infrastructure, enhancing radio connectivity in urban environments and offering new cost-effective and energy-efficient wireless solutions. The aeolian sand-box backfilling method proves effective for environmentally friendly coal extraction in northwestern regions, including Xinjiang. This study investigated the geomechanical characteristics of aeolian sand-box backfill material and its control effects on overlying strata through indoor experiments, mechanical analysis, and numerical simulations. Uniaxial compression tests on models with varying mesh sizes, wire diameters, and dimensions revealed that larger mesh sizes and wire diameters increased the bearing capacity of the aeolian sand-box backfill material, while increasing dimensions had the opposite effect. A mechanical analysis of the metal mesh box deformation produced equations describing its restraining force. Subsequent experiments and simulations on models of different dimensions consistently demonstrated the material's mechanical properties, with stress-displacement curves closely aligned. 3DEC5.2 software simulations highlighted the effectiveness of aeolian sand-box backfill material in controlling displacement and stress variations in goaf areas. To enhance the deflagration efficiency and protection level of combustible mixed gases in narrow spaces, a small square experimental pipeline system was designed. Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of lateral vent pipes and metal wire meshes on the explosion characteristics of methane gas. This study examined the influence of changing the positions of the lateral vent pipes and metal wire meshes in the pipeline on the variation of parameters such as the flame shape, leading speed, and pressure of the methane/air premixed gas in the pipeline. The results indicated that the lateral vent pipes could effectively release part of the energy from the methane explosion, and the release effect was stronger the closer they were to the ignition end. This was significantly more effective in releasing the flame and pressure than when the vent pipes were placed in the middle or at the end of the pipeline. For lateral vent pipes close to the ignition source, their effective release of the not yet fully developed premixed flame allowed the heat absorption, wave absorption, and quenching performance of the installed metal wire mesh in the pipeline to fully exert their effects on the slow-spreading premixed flame. Furthermore, when a metal mesh was installed in the pipeline and the flame could not be extinguished, the flame penetrated the mesh structure, causing the flame front to become unstable and exhibit "irregular wrinkles". Dentin hypersensitivity is a common disease of the oral cavity, which renders the tooth extremely sensitive to stimuli. These symptoms usually result from the exposure of the dentinal tubules to the external environment. There is a need for a treatment for dentinal hypersensitivity that can overcome the shortcomings of the existing agents. This study thus aimed to assess the therapeutic efficacy of no-ozone cold plasma (NCP), which was developed for safe use in the oral cavity, in conjunction with 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) and hydroxyapatite (HA), which are widely used conventional treatments of hypersensitivity. The fluoride content was evaluated using electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) analysis. Moreover, we confirmed the effect of NCP pre-treatment on the dentinal tubule occlusion by APF and HA as follows: scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry were employed to analyze the exposed dentinal tubules, and the calcium and phosphorus content were measured. Furthermore, an additional experiment was conducted using a metal mesh to analyze the working elements of NCP. All experimental results were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and then by using the Turkey test as a post hoc test. EPMA analysis confirmed that the fluoride content of the APF and NCP group was significantly higher than that of the APF group (p < 0.001). The fluoride content of the group treated with APF and NCP equipped with a metal mesh was significantly lower than that in the group treated with APF and NCP and the group treated with APF and NCP equipped with a cotton mesh (p < 0.01). Moreover, the group treated with NCP pre-treated with HA and APF exhibited significantly greater dentinal tubule occlusion than the other groups (p < 0.05). The same result was confirmed by calculating the calcium/phosphorus ratio (p < 0.05). Within the rapidly growing market for fiber-reinforced plastics (FRPs), conventional production processes involving molds are not cost-efficient for prototype and small series production. Therefore, new flexible forming techniques are increasingly being researched, many of which have been inspired by incremental sheet metal forming (ISF). Due to the different deformation mechanisms of woven reinforcement fibers and metal sheets, ISF is not directly applicable to FRP. Instead, shear and bending of the fibers need to be realized. Therefore, a new dieless forming process for the production of FRP supported by metal wire mesh as an auxiliary material is proposed. Two standard tools, such as hemispherical punches, are used to locally bend a reversible layup of metal wire mesh and woven reinforcement fiber fabric enclosed in a vacuum bag. Therefore, the mesh aids in introducing shear into the material due to its ability to transmit compressive in-plane forces, and it ensures that the otherwise flexible fabric maintains the intended deformation until the part is cured or solidified. The prediction of the behavior of vibration isolators is essential for effective and efficient design of these devices, as well as for accurately characterizing the isolator behavior. In this work, an experimental study was performed to characterize the behavior of metal-mesh isolators. Although these elements' performance is of great interest because of their usage in several applications, their characterization is complex due to their nonlinear nature, among other factors. This study's aim was to obtain the quasi-static behavior of these isolators, although dynamic tests are required for their complete characterization. These quasi-static tests allowed for the highlighting of some characteristics in a simpler and faster manner and also provided a starting point for designing future dynamic tests. The quasi-static tests performed resulted in the calculation of the hysteresis cycle under different operating conditions and manufacturing parameters. The study of different insulator characteristics, such as the energy dissipation coefficient and stiffness, led to interesting conclusions about the isolator performance. From the results, it was observed that the relative density affected most the nonlinear behavior of the insulator. Featured Application: This work provides an effective and promising strategy for the protection of optoelectronic systems against electromagnetic interference. Metal mesh films have been shown to be a promising strategy to effectively mitigate the growing issue of electromagnetic interference (EMI) in optoelectronic systems. To achieve superior shielding effectiveness, it is common to increase the thickness of the mesh film. However, mesh-based shielding materials have frequency-dependent shielding effectiveness that decreases as the frequency increases. Simply increasing the thickness of the mesh cannot effectively enhance the EMI shielding effectiveness at high frequencies. This will further lead to challenges such as increased processing difficulties and higher costs. In this paper, we present an infrared transparent electromagnetic shielding window based on metal mesh with irregular patterns and proper thickness. The mesh coating is fabricated on a sapphire substrate using ultraviolet photolithography technology and exhibits an efficient electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of more than 20 dB over the wide frequency range of 1.7–18 GHz while maintaining high infrared optical transparency. More importantly, there is no distinct variation in shielding effectiveness between low and high frequency ranges, demonstrating a balanced shielding characteristic across a broad frequency band. Recently, semiconductor wastewater treatment has received much attention due to the emergence of environmental issues. Acid-resistant coatings are essential for metal prefilters used in semiconductor wastewater treatment. Perfluoroalkoxy alkane is mainly used as an acid-resistant coating agent, since PFA has inherent superhydrophobicity, water permeability is lowered. To solve this problem, the surface of the PFA-coated metal mesh was treated via an oxyfluorination method in which an injected mixed gas of fluorine and oxygen reacted with the surface functional groups. Surface analysis, water contact angle measurement, and water permeability tests were performed on the surface-treated PFA-coated mesh. Consequently, the superhydrophobic surface was effectively converted to a hydrophobic surface as the PFA coating layer was surface-modified with C-O-OH functional groups via the oxyfluorination reaction. As a result of using simulation solutions that float silica particles of various sizes, the permeability and particle removal rate of the surface-modified PFA-coated stainless-steel mesh were improved compared to those before surface modification. Therefore, the oxyfluorination treatment used in this study was suitable for improving the filtration performance of SiO2 microparticles in the PFA-coated stainless-steel mesh. Superhydrophobic surfaces could repel water due to the capillary force associated with surface roughness, which has a large range of applications, such as underwater drag reduction, heat transfer enhancement, oil/water separation, and so on. However, the engineering applications of superhydrophobic surfaces rely on the stability of the superhydrophobic surfaces. In this study, a hydrophilic metal mesh was modified to be superhydrophobic. The resulting superhydrophobic mesh was designed as a bowl capable of holding water without leaking and as a boat floating on top of water without sinking. The stability of an impacting droplet on a superhydrophobic mesh was investigated using both experiments and theoretical analysis. It was demonstrated that the capillary force is able to prevent water from passing through the mesh and maintain the stability of the air–water interface under dynamic pressure. Furthermore, a theoretical model was developed to diagnose the stability of the air–water interface on the superhydrophobic mesh when in contact with water, and the results are consistent with the experimental findings. The demand for lightweight materials, such as fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), is constantly growing. However, current FRP production mostly relies on expensive molds representing the final part geometry, which is not economical for prototyping or highly individualized products, such as in the medical or sporting goods sector. Therefore, inspired by incremental sheet metal forming, we conduct a systematic functional analysis on new processing methods for shaping woven FRP without the use of molds. Considering different material combinations, such as dry fabric with thermoset resin, thermoset prepreg, thermoplastic commingled yarn weave and organo sheets, we propose potential technical implementations of novel dieless forming techniques, making use of simple robot-guided standard tools, such as hemispherical tool tips or rollers. Feasibility of selected approaches is investigated in basic practical experiments with handheld tools. Results show that the main challenge of dieless local forming, the conservation of already formed shapes while allowing drapability of remaining areas, is best fulfilled by local impregnation, consolidation and solidification of commingled yarn fabric, as well as concurrent forming of prepreg and metal wire mesh support material. Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a major threat to the structural integrity of insulated pipes and vessels. Pulsed eddy-current testing (PECT) is well known in the industry for detecting CUI, but its readings can be easily influenced by nearby conductive objects, including the insulation supporting metal mesh. As a sequel to our previous study, this paper focuses on the surface distribution of eddy currents at the time of the turning off of the driving voltage instead of examining the overall process of eddy current diffusion. Based on the fact that CUI takes place on the outside of the insulated specimen, the probe footprint was calculated only on the specimen surface. The corrosion depth was regarded as an increment to the probe lift-off, whose information was carried in the early PECT signal. Finite element simulations were performed to facilitate the calculation of the probe footprint and predict the signal behavior. The peak value, which appeared in the early phase of the differential PECT signal, was found to be well correlated with the corrosion depth. Further studies revealed that the mild steel mesh could result in the enlargement of the probe footprint and a decrease in the change rate of the peak value in relation to the corrosion depth. Finally, experiments were conducted to verify the simulation results. The presented findings are consistent with the previously reported results and provide a potential alternative to evaluate CUI in specific scenarios where the insulation has a fixed and uniform thickness. Simple Summary: Wireless power transfer using electric coupling can deliver the power by electric field between two metal plates, and a copper plate is generally used for metal material. This study presents that a transparent and flexible metal mesh material can replace the existing copper plate in resonance-based wireless power transfer using electric coupling. In wireless power transfer using electric coupling, a phenomenon called null power point occurs depending on the relative positions of the transmitter and receiver, which negatively affects the efficiency of power transfer. This study also clarified the reason for the occurrence of null power points in the power transfer process. This study provides information on the transfer efficiency of four-plate-structured copper plate and metal mesh sheet couplers, the cause of null-power point. The couplers are compared based on the equivalent circuit model analysis, experimental results of fabricated couplers, and simulation results of the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) tool. It was confirmed that the metal mesh material exhibits the same performance as the existing copper plate and can be fully used as a coupler material for the electrical resonance wireless power transfer system. In addition, the null-power point phenomenon is only determined by the main coupling and cross coupling between the transmitter and receiver, which are most dominantly affected by the coupler structure. Phase change material (PCM) is an effective thermal management method to improve the thermoelectric conversion performance of a system. PCM can not only absorb excessive thermal energy at high temperature to protect the thermoelectric module (TEM) and increase the maximum available temperature range, but also compensate for intermittent energy to extend the working time of the TEM. In the paper, the transient performance is improved by adding PCM to a traditional thermoelectric generator (TEG) system. Due to the low thermal conductivity of PCM, metal fins are used to improve the thermal conductivity of PCM. To achieve maximum efficiency of the TEG system, the Taguchi method is employed. Four factors are heat source thermal power, PCM type, height of the PCM box, and filling ratio of the PCM, respectively. The results show that heat source thermal power has the greatest effect, and PCM has the least effect on the conversion efficiency of the TEG system. Conversion efficiency from thermal to electricity is about 1.472% during 2300 s of the heating and cooling stages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Support technology faces challenges in view of the large deformation of surrounding rock in three-soft coal roadways under high horizontal stress in Zijin Coal Mine, China. Geostress near the tested working face of the mine was measured and its distribution law was analyzed through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation analysis, and field measurement. The original supporting scheme of the three-soft coal roadway on the tested working face was analyzed to discover the deformation and failure mechanism of the surrounding rock of the original supporting roadway and the control measures. An optimized support scheme of H-G (hollow grouting) anchor cables, high strength bolts, W-shaped steel belts, metal meshes, and sprayed concretes was proposed for field applications. Based on the roadway in the tested 3201 working face at Zijin Coal Mine, the technical parameters for optimizing the combined support of the roadway were determined. The following results were be obtained through field measurement. The roadway was kept intact after excavation and the optimized support scheme was adopted in the three-soft coal roadway. No obvious deformation in appearance existed in the roof, floor, and roadway coal sides. Compared with the original support scheme, the stability of the roadways was improved visibly. The displacement of the roadway roof decreased from 100 to 30 mm, and that of the roadway coal walls decreased from more than 100 mm to less than 50 mm. This work verifies the effectiveness of a combined support scheme of H-G anchor cables, high strength bolts, W-shaped steel belts, metal meshes, and sprayed concretes to control deformations of surrounding rock in three-soft coal roadways. This paper proposes a dual-band transparent antenna using frame-structured metal mesh conductive film (MMCF). The frame-structured metal mesh conductive film is based on the conductive-coated thin film and forms a narrow strip surrounding the edge of the antenna. The frame-structured metal mesh conductive film can resist considerable current leakage on the edge of the conductive strip to improve the antenna's efficiency by 51% at 2.1 GHz and 53% at 3.6 GHz. In this work, three raised expanded metal meshes (EMMs) differing in mesh size were tested experimentally with regard to their flow and transport properties. Empirical equations for the Nusselt number and Fanning friction factor were developed. Alongside the experiments, simple computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models were used to simulate the pressure drop and heat transfer coefficients within EMMs. Finally, the Performance Efficiency Criterion (PEC) was applied to compare EMMs with other reactor packings. This study presents a simulation procedure for the wear of metallic materials exposed to long-term cumulative contact forces and introduces a numerical analysis procedure using the discrete element method (DEM) to predict the wear damage. Since the DEM can calculate the motion and contact load of each particle and the interaction between particles for each dynamic collision of particles, it was possible to analyze the motion of the particles causing metal wear. A method to reflect particle size, material properties, and long-term cumulative friction distance required by the DEM was proposed so that the collision and friction load between particles can be predicted practically. Considering the feature of wear suggested by Archard, it was shown that the wear amount can be predicted efficiently by converting the long-term load into an equivalent material constant. In addition, it was suggested that it is reasonable to determine the size of the particles in consideration of the size of the surface mesh of the metal surface. The accuracy of the analysis results obtained using the procedure proposed in this study was compared with that of the wear test results of metal material specimens presented by former studies. The numerical analysis was also performed in the reference study, but inaccurate results were derived compared to the analysis results. The reason for the inaccuracy of the numerical model performed in the previous study was found to be environmental factors that cannot be considered in a numerical analysis. In this study, it was determined that it was because the behavior of particles and the load transferred to the specimen were not well simulated, which remains a problem for future research. As a result, it was confirmed that it is possible to compute a worn shape similar to the measured shape of experiments. The broad aim of this research is to quantify the effectiveness of fences made of metal mesh around buildings in mitigating risks associated with firebrand showers created in wildland fires. This paper aims to (1) quantify the effectiveness of a mesh complying with Australian Standard 3959:2018 against firebrand showers and (2) identify behaviors of firebrands interacting with the mesh. The study was conducted using Red Gum and Cypress Pinewood firebrands inside a wind tunnel at 40 km/h with and without a mesh present for a total of 50 experiments. Two types of effectiveness were defined using the number of holes and their area burnt by the firebrand. The results show the mesh was highly effective against both large and small firebrands except for some long needle shape firebrands. The results are aligned with AS 3959:2018 and show an effectiveness ratio of the mesh in the range 93.2–98.8% for Red Gum and Cypress Pine firebrands at a wind speed of 40 km/h. It was documented that firebrands in interaction with the mesh show one or a combination of eight different mechanisms: passing, stopping, splitting, shattering, pausing, bouncing, slipping and wandering. Anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge (WAS) to produce methane is a promising pathway for biomass energy recovery. However, a slow organic biodegradation rate and weak microbial cooperation between fermentation bacteria and methanogens lead to low methane production from WAS. Considering the reuse of conductive materials for the regulation of microbial communities, this study chose three kinds of high-mesh metal materials (nickel, copper, and stainless steel) to promote the anaerobic digestion process. All three kinds of metal mesh could effectively increase methane production, and the highest methane production was increased by 61%, reaching 77.52 mL gVSS−1. The poor biocompatibility of the stainless steel mesh was the least effective in promoting methane production compared to the biocompatible copper mesh and nickel mesh. The microbiological analysis found that the metal mesh with good biocompatibility can effectively induce and promote the enrichment of key microorganisms in the process of synergistic methane production, and the direct electron transfer process (DIET) of microorganisms on the metal surface contributes to the further improvement of the methane production efficiency. Therefore, the application of metal conductive materials in sludge anaerobic fermentation is feasible to achieve the retention of syntrophic bacteria and methanogens in the system. A novel co-catalyst system under visible-light irradiation was constructed using high-purity metal and alloy mesh and a Mn0.5Cd0.5S photocatalyst with a narrow band gap (1.91 eV) prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. The hydrogen production rate of Mn0.5Cd0.5S changed from 2.21 to 6.63 mmol·(g·h)−1 with the amount of thioacetamide, which was used as the sulphur source. The introduction of Ag, Mo, Ni, Cu, and Cu–Ni alloy meshes efficiently improved the H2 production rate of the co-catalyst system, especially for the Ni mesh. The improvement can reach an approximately six times greater production, with the highest H2 production rate being 37.65 mmol·(g·h)−1. The results showed that some bulk non-noble metal meshes can act as good or better than some noble metal nanoparticles deposited on the main photocatalyst for H2 evolution due to the promotion of photoinduced electron transfer, increase in redox reaction sites, and prevention of the recombination of carriers. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential use of polypropylene (PP) hernia mesh as a reinforcement of PMMA denture base resin in comparison with metal and glass fiber meshes, with the expectation of enhancing the mechanical stability of the PMMA dentures in oral conditions. The control group with no mesh, the aluminum metal mesh (Al) group, the PP1 (PP mesh used on top) group, the PP2 (PP mesh used on both the top and bottom) group, the orthopedic casting tape with self-curing resin (DP0) group, and the flushed form (DPA) group were fabricated in a chromium mold. A total of 144 specimens were divided into three equal portions and subjected to: first, no treatment; second, thermal cycling only; and third, thermal cycling and chewing simulation. The flexural strength, maximum deformation, and flexural modulus were determined by a three-point bending test to compare mechanical properties. Fracture surfaces were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by a two-way ANOVA test with Bonferroni corrections. The non-treated Al mesh reinforcement group exhibited the highest (82.66 ± 6.65 MPa) flexural strength, and the PP2 group treated with chewing simulation displayed the lowest (56.64 ± 4.59 MPa) flexural strength. The Al group showed the highest (7.25 ± 1.05 mm) maximum deformation and the PP2 group showed lowest (3.64 ± 0.28 mm) maximum deformation when both groups were not subjected to any treatment. The control group with no treatment exhibited the lowest (1556.98 ± 270.62 MPa) flexural modulus values, and the Al group with no treatment exhibited the highest (3106.07 ± 588.68 MPa) flexural modulus values. All the mesh groups displayed intact fractures. Any type of mesh used for reinforcement exhibited a significant change in all flexural properties (p < 0.001). The PP1 reinforcement group did not exhibit a significant change in mechanical properties when the effect of treatment was compared. Using PP hernia mesh on top enhanced the mechanical properties despite the weakening when it was used on both the top and bottom. Recently, expanded metal mesh has been used on the facades of many buildings in Taiwan. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the impact of expanded metal mesh on natural lighting and energy consumption in office buildings. First, the compatibility of EnergyPlus and DIVA simulation software with expanded metal mesh was verified using field measurements. The results show a high correlation between simulation and measurement, except for some periods of direct sunlight. Then, we evaluated the effects of window-to-wall ratio (WWR), glass, and expanded metal mesh on energy consumption and lighting. The results show that WWR has a significant influence on both lighting and energy consumption. The greater the WWR, the greater the energy saving potential of the expanded metal mesh and glass. If the SHGC of the glass is lower, the potential of the expanded metal mesh to save air conditioning energy consumption is smaller, and, as a result, the expanded metal mesh may increase the total energy consumption. Of the 36 simulation cases performed, three cases met the LEED lighting standard. The case with minimum energy consumption is achieved when SHGC = 50%, using laminated clear glass and expanded metal mesh with a 21% perforated ratio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of second building skins is becoming a trademark in modern architecture, opening for innovative solutions, such as three-dimensional (3D) systems. This paper explores the potential of these systems to provide adequate solar protection to glazed façades by means of an advanced optical characterization. Spectral transmittance and reflectance of fourteen samples, belonging to several technological families, are measured with a built-in spectrophotometer, suitable to accurately characterize complex semi-transparent systems. Solar and lighting properties are then calculated. The normal optical properties strongly depend on the openness factor, thus the geometry primarily affects the performance. A total of 11 samples exhibit normal solar transmittance in the 40–53% range; the value decreases to 20% for the plissé metal grid and increases to 70% on average for metal meshes. The angular transmittance depends on the system texture geometry and its self-shading capabilities. It was found that such systems underperform as static conventional shading systems; however, one of the metal meshes, the plissé grid and the plastic grid exhibit relevant angular selectivity, with transmittance decay at 60° in the 58–72% range compared to the normal incidence value. The results show that some of the selected 3D systems provide adequate solar protection. The dimensioning of wireless power transfer systems requires compliance with safety standards for human exposure and electromagnetic compatibility. For this reason, shielding is conventionally carried out with heavy and costly plates. In order to evaluate a lightweight and low-cost alternative, this paper presents a comprehensive investigation of the shielding effectiveness of metal meshes in magnetic fields of wireless power transfer systems, including analytical modeling and experimental validation. Special emphasis is laid on the validation of novel analytical approximation approaches to model the anisotropic electrical conductivity of metal meshes. The proposed approaches show good consistency of the mean value taking into account warp and weft direction, whereas the modeling of the anisotropic behavior is not sufficiently accurately represented. Using the calculated electrical conductivity, the analytical modeling of the maximum shielding effectiveness based on a literature-known approach is very consistent for the experimental validation. An experimental investigation on the resistance welding of carbon-fiber-reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composite laminate using three types of stainless steel (SS) meshes with different sizes and electrical resistances as heating elements is reported. The objective of this study is to determine the influence of the metal mesh on the welding process and performance at different power densities ranging from 29 to 82 kW/m2. Resistance welding equipment is used to monitor the temperature and displacement along the thickness of the laminate. The results show that the power density determines the welding time and heat concentration. A large power density results in a short welding time, but also increases the temperature gradient at the joining interface (almost 50 °C) and causes an obvious deformation of a contraction of more than 0.1 mm along the thickness of the laminate. A SS mesh with low resistance has a strong welding capability, i.e., a high welding efficiency under low power density. A lap shear strength of approximately 35 MPa can be obtained with the appropriate power density. The construction of 1500 m depth shaft in Xincheng Gold Mine, China, faces complex stress conditions such as high geostress (>50 MPa), high ground temperature (>50 °C), high water-pressure (>9 MPa), and highly corrosive. Traditional deep shafts excavated by the sinking and lining method cannot adapt to high geostress problems, such as rock bursts and large deformations, etc., in the deep shaft construction process. To avoid and adjust the high geostress induced the rockburst and large deformations, the mechanism of the advanced sequential geopressure release (ASGR) has been proposed for the ground control in deep shaft construction. In this paper, the safe distance between the concrete lining and the shaft excavation face is determined based on the ASGR mechanism, which can provide the space for geopressure release, and primary support based on rock mass quality and numerical simulation was employed to control the geopressure and deformation. A new support scheme for the deep shaft is proposed, using long bolts to restrain severe deformations, metal mesh, and a double reinforcement bar to improve the induced stress distribution. According to the results, the construction scheme of deep shaft has been improved, and the safe support distance of the proposed scheme is determined to be 12 m, with an interval of three excavation cycles. Compared to the original scheme of shaft lining after excavation, the proposed scheme based on the ASGR mechanism can effectively improve the geopressure release and benefit from controlling the rockburst and large deformation of deep shaft induced by high geostress conditions. The present article is aimed at studying the deformation behavior of TiNi wire and knitted metal TiNi mesh under uniaxial tension and revealing the role of wire geometry on their main mechanical characteristics and mechanisms of deformation behavior. The temperature dependence curve of the electrical resistance indicates that a two-stage martensitic transformation of B2→R→B19′ is occurring, and is responsible for the superelasticity effect. The TEM results showed that at room temperature, the TiNi wire has a nanocrystalline structure composed of B2 austenite grains. A change in the deformation mechanism was established under the uniaxial tension, where the TiNi wire exhibits the effect of superelasticity, while the knitted metal TiNi mesh made from this wire is characterized by hyperelastic behavior. Fracturing of the knitted metal TiNi mesh requires significant loads of up to 3500 MPa compared to the fracture load of the TiNi wire. The fluoride-free fabrication of superhydrophobic materials for the separation of oil/water mixtures has received widespread attention because of frequent offshore oil exploration and chemical leakage. In recent years, oil/water separation materials, based on metal meshes, have drawn much attention, with significant advantages in terms of their high mechanical strength, easy availability, and long durability. However, it is still challenging to prepare superhydrophobic metal meshes with high-separation capacity, low costs, and high recyclability for dealing with oil–water separation. In this work, a superhydrophobic and super oleophilic stainless steel mesh (SSM) was successfully prepared by anchoring Fe2O3 nanoclusters (Fe2O3-NCs) on SSM via the in-situ flame synthesis method and followed by further modification with octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTS). The as-prepared SSM with Fe2O3-NCs and OTS (OTS@Fe2O3-NCs@SSM) was confirmed by a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The oil–water separation capacity of the sample was also measured. The results show that the interlaced and dense Fe2O3-NCs, composed of Fe2O3 nanoparticles, were uniformly coated on the surface of the SSM after the immerging-burning process. Additionally, a compact self-assembled OTS layer with low surface energy is coated on the surface of Fe2O3-NCs@SSM, leading to the formation of OTS@Fe2O3-NCs@SSM. The prepared OTS@Fe2O3-NCs@SSM shows excellent superhydrophobicity, with a water static contact angle of 151.3°. The separation efficiencies of OTS@Fe2O3-NCs@SSM for the mixtures of oil/water are all above 98.5%, except for corn oil/water (97.5%) because of its high viscosity. Moreover, the modified SSM exhibits excellent stability and recyclability. This work provides a facile approach for the preparation of superhydrophobic and super oleophilic metal meshes, which will lead to advancements in their large-scale applications on separating oil/water mixtures. This paper presents a systematic parameter study on mesh pattern for optically transparent flexible antenna with feedline. In implementing a transparent flexible antenna using a metal mesh, transparency and performance of antenna and feedline are opposite factors. To understand how both elements are affected by the design parameters of the mesh, we analyze the performance of the feedlines and antennas according to the design parameters of diamond and square meshes. Moreover, the effect of the difference in the shape of diamond mesh and square mesh on performance is analyzed. The measured results of the fabricated samples offer the feasibility of implementing transparent feedlines and antennas with similar performance to nontransparent feedlines and antennas. Reverberation time (RT) is an important factor affecting the quality of indoor acoustics. Using sound-absorbing materials is one method for quickly and effectively controlling RT, and installation in the ceiling is a common location. Sound-absorbing ceilings come in many forms, with light steel joist ceilings commonly used in office spaces, classrooms, and discussion rooms. Light steel joist ceilings are often matched with sound-absorbing materials such as gypsum board, mineral fiberboard, rock wool, and coated glass wool, but such materials may have durability and exfoliation problems. Therefore, considering performance and health, in this research, we aimed to design an expanded metal mesh (EMM) structure specimen for sound-absorption material, namely folded expanded metal mesh (FEMM). The results show that the FEMM can significantly improve the sound-absorption performance of the expanded metal mesh. The α w of single panel is 0.05–0.35, and the α w of FEMM is 0.65–0.85. On the other hand, the sound-absorption performance of the full frequency band has been significantly improved. Furthermore, the field validation result shows that RT decreased from 1.05–0.56 s at 500 Hz, meanwhile, the sound pressure level (SPL) is still evenly distributed, and speech clarity (C50) is increased by 5.6–6.5. Recently, micro-perforated panels (MPP) have become a popular sound absorbing material in the field of architectural acoustics. However, the cost of MPP is still high for the commercial market in Taiwan, and MPP is still not very popular compared to other sound absorbing materials and devices. The objective of this study is to develop a prediction model for MEMM via a machine learning approach. An experiment including 14 types of MEMM was first carried out in a reverberation room based on ISO 354. To predict the sound absorption coefficient of the MEMM, the capability of three conventional models and three machine learning (ML) models of the supervised learning method were studied for the development of the prediction model. The results showed that in most conventional models, the sound absorption coefficient of using an equivalent perimeter had the best agreement compared with other parameters, and the root mean square error (RMSE) between prediction models and experimental data were around 0.2~0.3. However, the RMSE of all ML models was less than 0.1, and the RMSE of the gradient boost model was 0.033 in the training sets and 0.062 in the testing sets, which showed the best agreement with the experiment data. The selective laser-melting (SLM) process can be applied to the additive building of complex metal parts using melting metal powder with laser scanning. A metal mesh is a common type of metal screen consisting of parallel rows and intersecting columns. It is widely used in the agricultural, industrial, transportation, and machine protection sectors. This study investigated the fabrication of parts containing a mesh pattern from the SLM of AISI 304 stainless steel powder. The formation of a mesh pattern has a strong potential to increase the functionality and cost-effectiveness of the SLM process. To fabricate a single-layered thin mesh pattern, laser layering has been conducted on a copper base plate. The high thermal conductivity of copper allows heat to pass through it quickly, and prevents the adhesion of a thin laser-melted layer. The effects of the process conditions such as the laser scan speed and scanning path on the size and dimensional accuracy of the fabricated mesh patterns were characterized. As the analysis results indicate, a part with a mesh pattern was successfully obtained, and the application of the proposed method was shown to be feasible with a high degree of reliability. Transparent conducting electrode film is highly desirable for application in touch screen panels (TSPs), flexible and wearable displays, sensors, and actuators. A sputtered film of indium tin oxide (ITO) shows high transmittance (90%) at low sheet resistance (50 Ω/cm²). However, ITO films lack mechanical flexibility, especially under bending stress, and have limitation in application to large-area TSPs (over 15 inches) due to the trade-off in high transmittance and low sheet resistance properties. One promising solution is to use metal mesh-type transparent conducting film, especially for touch panel application. In this work, we investigated such inter-related issues as UV imprinting process to make a trench layer pattern, the synthesis of core-shell-type Ag and Cu@Ag composite nanoparticles and their paste formulation, the filling of Ag and Cu@Ag mixture nanoparticle paste to the trench layer, and touch panel fabrication processes. A comprehensive experimental investigation has been carried out into the role of film thickness variation and silver material formulation on printing capability in the screen printing process. A full factorial experiment was carried out where two formulations of silver materials were printed through a range of screens to a polyester substrate under a set of standard conditions. The materials represented a novel low silver content (45%-49%) polymer material and traditional high silver content (65%-69%) paste. The resultant prints were characterised topologically and electrically. The study shows that more cost effective use of the silver in the ink was obtained with the low silver polymer materials, but that the electrical performance was more strongly affected by the mesh being used (and hence film thickness). Thus, while optimum silver use could be obtained using materials with a lower silver content, this came with the consequence of reduced process robustness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Static-cyclic shear load tests and tensile tests on retrofitted masonry walls were conducted at UAS Fribourg for an evaluation of the newly developed retrofitting system, the S&P ARMO-System. This retrofitting system consists of a composite of carbon mesh embedded in a specially adapted high quality spray mortar. It can be applied with established construction techniques using traditional construction materials. The experimental study has shown that masonry walls reinforced by this retrofitting system reach a similar strength and a higher ductility than retrofits by means of bonded carbon fiber reinforced polymer sheets. Hence, the retrofitting system using carbon fiber meshes embedded in a high quality mortar constitutes a good option for static or seismic retrofits or reinforcements for masonry walls. The double-layer blanket (DLB) reverse offset is a newly designed printing process for patterning electronic circuits on a 3D curved surface. Unlike the existing reverse offset process, the DLB reverse offset utilizes an offset roll composed of two layers comprising polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and a thick, soft cushioned rubber to print microelectrode patterns and transparent electrodes on a curved surface. The optimal printing process was determined by adjusting the printing pressure and printing speed for horizontal and vertical micropatterns, based on which transparent electrodes with metal mesh and honeycomb structures with a line width of 30 μm and pitch of 600 μm with micropatterns ranging from 30 μm to 60 μm were printed on a curved surface. Ag ink was used, and the 3D curved surface indicated a print quality similar to that of the flat surface for both the vertical and horizontal patterns and transparent electrodes. The DLB reverse offset technique demonstrated the possibility of printing on a 3D curved surface and is expected to broaden the range of printed electronics to applications such as smart glasses and 3D shape sensors. The vast demand for petroleum industry products led to the increased production of oily wastewaters and has led to many possible separation technologies. In addition to production-related oily wastewater, direct oil spills are associated with detrimental effects on the local ecosystems. Accordingly, this review paper aims to tackle the oil spill cleanup issue as well as water separation by providing a wide range of graphene-based technologies. These include graphene-based membranes; graphene sponges; graphene-decorated meshes; graphene hydrogels; graphene aerogels; graphene foam; and graphene-coated cotton. Sponges and aerogels modified by graphene and reduced graphene oxide demonstrated effective oil water separation owing to their superhydrophobic/superoleophilic properties. In addition, oil particles are intercepted while allowing water molecules to penetrate the graphene-oxide-coated metal meshes and membranes thanks to their superhydrophilic/underwater superoleophobic properties. Samples of skin, tendons, muscles, and knitwear composed of NiTi wire are studied by uniaxial cyclic tension and stretching to rupture. The metal knitted mesh behaves similar to a superelastic material when stretched, similar to soft biological tissues. The superelasticity effect was found in NiTi wire, but not in the mesh composed of it. A softening effect similar to biological tissues is observed during the cyclic stretching of the mesh. The mechanical behavior of the NiTi mesh is similar to the biomechanical behavior of biological tissues. The discovered superelastic effects allow developing criteria for the selection and evaluation of mesh materials composed of titanium nickelide for soft tissue reconstructive surgery. Nanostructured metal mesh structures demonstrating excellent conductivity and high transparency are one of the promising transparent conducting electrode (TCE) alternatives for indium tin oxide (ITO). Often, these metal nanostructures are to be employed as hybrids along with a conducting filler layer to collect charge carriers from the network voids and to minimize current and voltage losses. The influence of filler layers on dictating the extent of such ohmic loss is complex. Here, we used a general numerical model to correlate the sheet resistance of the filler, lateral charge transport distance in network voids, metal mesh line width and ohmic losses in optoelectronic devices. To verify this correlation, we prepared gold or copper network electrodes with different line widths and different filler layers, and applied them as TCEs in perovskite solar cells. We show that the photovoltaic parameters scale with the hybrid metal network TCE properties and an Au-network or Cu-network with aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) filler can replace ITO very well, validating our theoretical predictions. Heat transfer enhancement techniques used in liquid piston gas compression can contribute to improving the efficiency of compressed air energy storage systems by achieving a near-isothermal compression process. This work examines the effectiveness of a simultaneous use of two proven heat transfer enhancement techniques, metal wire mesh inserts and spray injection methods, in liquid piston gas compression. By varying the dimension of the inserts and the pressure of the spray, a comparative study was performed to explore the plausibility of additional improvement. The addition of an insert can help abating the temperature rise when the insert does not take much space or when the spray flowrate is low. At higher pressure, however, the addition of spacious inserts can lead to less efficient temperature abatement. This is because inserts can distract the free-fall of droplets and hinder their speed. In order to analytically account for the compromised cooling effects of droplets, Reynolds number, Nusselt number, and heat transfer coefficients of droplets are estimated under the test conditions. Reynolds number of a free-falling droplet can be more than 1000 times that of a stationary droplet, which results in 3.95 to 4.22 times differences in heat transfer coefficients. The reinforcement of acrylic denture base remains problematic. Acrylic prosthesis fractures are commonly observed in prosthodontic practice and have not been reliably resolved. This study compared the resistance to masticatory force of acrylic bases of removable complete conventional prosthesis in 3D upper models. Forty acrylic base test specimens containing two types of reinforcement meshes (20 with glass fiber meshes (FIBER-FORCE®- Synca, Bio Composants MédicauxTM, Tullins, France), 20 with metal meshes (DENTAURUM®-Ispringen, Germany)), 20 with a conventional PMMA acrylic base (LUCITONE 199®-Dentsply Sirona, York, PA, USA), and 20 using a permanent soft reline material (MOLLOPLAST-B®-DETAX GmbH & Co. KG, Ettlingen, Germany) were tested—a total of 80 specimens. Half of the specimens were made for a low alveolar ridge and half for a high alveolar ridge. The data were analysed using one-way analysis of variance and Student's t-test for independent test specimens. In the high-alveolar-ridge group, the prosthesis reinforced with the glass fiber mesh was the most resistant to fracture, while in the low-alveolar-ridge group, the non-reinforced prosthesis showed the highest resistance masticatory force. Prostheses with the permanent soft reline material showed the lowest resistance to fracture in both high and low-alveolar-ridge groups. The results show that the selection of the right reinforcement material for each clinical case, based on the height of the alveolar ridge, may help to prevent prosthesis fractures. Advanced catalysts for clean hydrogen generation and storage offer an attractive possibility for developing a sustainable and ecofriendly future energy system. Transition metal oxides (TMO) are appealing candidates to be largely considered as electrode catalysts. However, for practical applications, there are still challenges—the intrinsic catalytic properties of TMOs should be further improved and TMOs should be synthesized by practical routes for cost-effective and scalable production of catalysts. Therefore, finding promising ways to fabricate highly active TMOs with outstanding electrochemical hydrogen evolution performance is required. Here, we present a direct and facile synthetic approach to successfully provide highly efficient MoO3−X catalysts with electrochemically active oxygen vacancies through a one-step thermal activation process on a Mo metal mesh. Variations in the oxidation states of molybdenum oxides can significantly increase the active sites of the catalysts and improve the electrochemical activity, making these oxide compounds suitable for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Compared to the bare Mo mesh and fully oxidized Mo (MoO3) electrodes, the fabricated MoO3−X electrode exhibits better electrochemical performance in terms of overpotentials and Tafel slope, as well as the electrochemical 1000 cycling stability, confirming the improved HER performance of MoO3−X. The electrical efficiency and durability of a photovoltaic (PV) cell degrades as its temperature increases. Accordingly, there have been continued efforts to control the cell temperature by cooling the PV module. Generally, passive PV cooling using heat sinks attached on the back of the PV module can improve the electrical efficiency. However, few experimental studies have evaluated the effect of the heat sink shape on PV cooling. Therefore, this study proposed a passive cooling technology using meshes made of iron and aluminum, and performed indoor tests using a solar simulator to analyze the cooling performance. The experimental results demonstrated that iron and aluminum meshes reduced the PV module temperature by approximately 4.35 °C and 6.56 °C, respectively. Additionally, numerical studies were performed using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation to compare the cooling fins and meshes. The numerical results showed that the cooling fins exhibited a better cooling performance than the metal mesh. However, meshes can be mass-produced and have a high structural stability against wind loads. Meshes are more likely be applied to PV systems than cooling fins if adhesion were improved. The dynamic sorption concentration of explosive vapours on concentrators made of a metal mesh, and the transportation of explosive vapours through the extended metal channels are considered. The efficiency of the concentration and transportation is determined by the breakthrough of the substance's molecules through the channels. The research methods we used were breakthrough calculation theory and experiment. When calculating the breakthrough, a mesh was presented as a set of parallel identical channels. Wire mesh and extended channels were made of stainless steel. The breakthrough is determined through the specific frequency of the collisions between the molecules and the channel's surface. This is presented as a function of the ratio of the substance diffusion flow to the channel's surface to the airflow through the channel. The conditions for high-speed concentration, complete capture of explosive vapours, and low vapour losses during their transportation through the extended channels were determined theoretically and experimentally. For a concentrator made of a mesh, the condition of a high concentration rate at a high breakthrough (up to 80%) was determined.
