In this paper, we propose a representation of the visual information about Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) video games using an adapted unsupervised deep learning architecture called Convolutional Accordion Auto-Encoder (Conv_A2E). Our study includes a presentation of current representations of MOBA video game information and why our proposal offers a novel and useful solution to this task. This approach aims to achieve dimensional reduction and refined feature extraction of the visual data. To enhance the model's performance, we tested several attention mechanisms for computer vision, evaluating algorithms from the channel attention and spatial attention families, and their combination. Through experimentation, we found that the best reconstruction of the visual information with the Conv_A2E was achieved when using a spatial attention mechanism, deformable convolution, as its mean squared error (MSE) during testing was the lowest, reaching a value of 0.003893, which means that its dimensional reduction is the most generalist and representative for this case study. This article describes a detailed methodology for the A-phase classification of the cyclic alternating patterns (CAPs) present in sleep electroencephalography (EEG). CAPs are a valuable EEG marker of sleep instability and represent an important pattern with which to analyze additional characteristics of sleep processes, and A-phase manifestations have been linked to some specific conditions. CAP phase detection and classification are not commonly carried out routinely due to the time and attention this problem requires (and if present, CAP labels are user-dependent, visually evaluated, and hand-made); thus, an automatic tool to solve the CAP classification problem is presented. The classification experiments were carried out using a distributional representation of the EEG data obtained from the CAP Sleep Database. For this purpose, data symbolization was performed using the one-dimensional symbolic aggregate approximation (1d-SAX), followed by the vectorization of symbolic data with a trained Doc2Vec model and a final classification with ten classic machine learning models for two separate validation strategies. The best results were obtained using a support vector classifier with a radial basis kernel. For hold-out validation, the best F1 Score was 0.7651; for stratified 10-fold cross-validation, the best F1 Score was 0.7611 ± 0.0133. Featured Application: Human resources, security, customer service, and intelligent recommendations can benefit from deploying and applying systems such as the one proposed in this paper. Market segmentation is a crucial marketing strategy that involves identifying and defining distinct groups of buyers to target a company's marketing efforts effectively. To achieve this, the use of data to estimate consumer preferences and behavior is both appropriate and adequate. Visual elements, such as color and shape, in advertising can effectively communicate the product or service being promoted and influence consumer perceptions of its quality. Similarly, a person's outward appearance plays a pivotal role in nonverbal communication, significantly impacting human social interactions and providing insights into individuals' emotional states. In this study, we introduce an innovative deep learning model capable of predicting one of the styles in the seven universal styles model. By employing various advanced deep learning techniques, our models automatically extract features from full-body images, enabling the identification of style-defining traits in clothing subjects. Among the models proposed, the XCEPTION-based approach achieved an impressive top accuracy of 98.27%, highlighting its efficacy in accurately predicting styles. Furthermore, we developed a personalized ad generator that enjoyed a high acceptance rate of 80.56% among surveyed users, demonstrating the power of data-driven approaches in generating engaging and relevant content. Overall, the utilization of data to estimate consumer preferences and style traits is appropriate and effective in enhancing marketing strategies, as evidenced by the success of our deep learning models and personalized ad generator. In this work we present the intelligent orchestrator of random generators (IORand), a hybrid procedural content generation (PCG) algorithm, driven by game experience, based on reinforcement learning and semi-random content generation methods. Our study includes a presentation of current PCG techniques and why a hybridization of approaches has become a new trend with promising results in the area. Moreover, the design of a new method for evaluating video game levels is presented, aimed at evaluating game experiences, based on graphs, which allows identifying the type of interaction that the player will have with the level. Then, the design of our hybrid PCG algorithm, IORand, whose reward function is based on the proposed level evaluation method, is presented. Finally, a study was conducted on the performance of our algorithm to generate levels of three different game experiences, from which we demonstrate the ability of IORand to satisfactorily and consistently solve the generation of levels that provide specific game experiences. Single image depth estimation works fail to separate foreground elements because they can easily be confounded with the background. To alleviate this problem, we propose the use of a semantic segmentation procedure that adds information to a depth estimator, in this case, a 3D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)—segmentation is coded as one-hot planes representing categories of objects. We explore 2D and 3D models. Particularly, we propose a hybrid 2D–3D CNN architecture capable of obtaining semantic segmentation and depth estimation at the same time. We tested our procedure on the SYNTHIA-AL dataset and obtained σ 3 = 0.95 , which is an improvement of 0.14 points (compared with the state of the art of σ 3 = 0.81 ) by using manual segmentation, and σ 3 = 0.89 using automatic semantic segmentation, proving that depth estimation is improved when the shape and position of objects in a scene are known. In this work we describe a system composed of deep neural networks that analyzes characteristics of customers based on their face (age, gender, and personality), as well as the ambient temperature, with the purpose of generating a personalized signal to potential buyers who pass in front of a beverage establishment; faces are automatically detected, displaying a recommendation using deep learning methods. In order to present suitable digital posters for each person, several technologies were used: Augmented reality, estimation of age, gender, and estimation of personality through the Big Five test applied to an image. The accuracy of each one of these deep neural networks is measured separately to ensure an appropriate precision over 80%. In this work, a 3D computational model based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is built to simulate the aerodynamic behavior of a Savonius-type vertical axis wind turbine with a semi-elliptical profile. This computational model is used to evaluate the performance of the wind turbine in terms of its power coefficient (Cp). Subsequently, a full factorial design of experiments (DOE) is defined to obtain a representative sample of the search space on the geometry of the wind turbine. A dataset is built on the performance of each geometry proposed in the DOE. This process is carried out in an automated way through a scheme of integrated computational platforms. Later, a surrogate model of the wind turbine is fitted to estimate its performance using machine learning algorithms. Finally, a process of optimization of the geometry of the wind turbine is carried out employing metaheuristic optimization algorithms to maximize its Cp; the final optimized designs are evaluated using the computational model for validating their performance. Large cities have a significant area of buildings with roofs that are not used most of the time. Vertical-axis wind turbines are suitable for this kind of on-site renewable energy generation. Since wind speeds are not high in these cities, a suitable solution to improve energy generation is to add a Wind Booster. This paper presents a methodology useful for selecting and optimizing the main components of a Wind Booster. As a case of study, we present this methodology in a Wind Booster for a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) that considers the wind flow's specific behavior in a particular city. The final Wind Booster design is state of the art and makes use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques. We experimented with the conditions of Mexico City, obtaining a 35.23% increase in torque with the optimized Wind Booster configuration. The results obtained show the potential of this methodology to improve the performance of this kind of system. Moreover, since wind behavior is very different in each city, our proposal could be beneficial for researchers looking to implement the best possible wind turbine in their locality. Surrogate Modeling (SM) is often used to reduce the computational burden of time-consuming system simulations. However, continuous advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the spread of embedded sensors have led to the creation of Digital Twins (DT), Design Mining (DM), and Soft Sensors (SS). These methodologies represent a new challenge for the generation of surrogate models since they require the implementation of elaborated artificial intelligence algorithms and minimize the number of physical experiments measured. To reduce the assessment of a physical system, several existing adaptive sequential sampling methodologies have been developed; however, they are limited in most part to the Kriging models and Kriging-model-based Monte Carlo Simulation. In this paper, we integrate a distinct adaptive sampling methodology to an automated machine learning methodology (AutoML) to help in the process of model selection while minimizing the system evaluation and maximizing the system performance for surrogate models based on artificial intelligence algorithms. In each iteration, this framework uses a grid search algorithm to determine the best candidate models and perform a leave-one-out cross-validation to calculate the performance of each sampled point. A Voronoi diagram is applied to partition the sampling region into some local cells, and the Voronoi vertexes are considered as new candidate points. The performance of the sample points is used to estimate the accuracy of the model for a set of candidate points to select those that will improve more the model's accuracy. Then, the number of candidate models is reduced. Finally, the performance of the framework is tested using two examples to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. Nowadays, more than half of the world's population lives in urban areas, and this number continues increasing. Consequently, there are more and more scientific publications that analyze health problems of people associated with living in these highly urbanized locations. In particular, some of the recent work has focused on relating people's health to the quality and quantity of urban green areas. In this context, and considering the huge amount of land area in large cities that must be supervised, our work seeks to develop a deep learning-based solution capable of determining the level of health of the land and to assess whether it is contaminated. The main purpose is to provide health institutions with software capable of creating updated maps that indicate where these phenomena are presented, as this information could be very useful to guide public health goals in large cities. In this paper, a deep neural network based model for a set of small-scale magnetorheological dampers (MRD) is developed where relevant parameters that have a physical meaning are inputs to the model. An experimental platform and a 3D-printing rapid prototyping facility provided a set of different conditions including MRD filled with two different MR fluids, which were used to train a Deep Neural Network (DNN), which is the core of the proposed model.
