Wheat sharp eyespot is a prevalent soil-borne disease that causes substantial economic losses in agriculture. Metconazole, a new triazole broad-spectrum fungicide, has demonstrated effective control of soil-borne diseases. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are an innovative adsorbent material known for their large surface area and high absorptive capacity. This study identifies MWCNTs as the optimal adsorption material for metconazole, achieving an adsorption rate of 85.27% under optimal conditions (stirring time of 30 min and feeding ratio of 6:1). The optimized formula consists of 1.5% dispersant sodium wood, 1% emulsifier BY-112, 2% AEO-15, 3% glycol, 3% filmogen, and 4% red dyes. A 0.5% MWCNT–metconazole suspension concentrate for seed coating (FSC) significantly enhances the inhibitory effect of metconazole on wheat growth and promotes root development. At the tillering stage, a coating ratio of 1:100 shows a marked impact on wheat growth, and MWCNTs can improve the control effect of metconazole to Rhizoctonia cerealis. This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of catalytic ozonation as an effective strategy for indigo dye bleaching, particularly examining the performance of four carbon-based catalysts, activated carbon (AC), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), and thermally etched nanosheets (C3N4-TE). The study investigates the efficiency of catalytic ozonation in degrading Potassium indigotrisulfonate (ITS) dye within the constraints of short contact times, aiming to simulate real-world industrial wastewater treatment conditions. The results reveal that all catalysts demonstrated remarkable decolorization efficiency, with over 99% of indigo dye removed within just 120 s of mixing time. Besides, the study delves into the mechanisms underlying catalytic ozonation reactions, elucidating the intricate interactions between the catalysts, ozone, and indigo dye molecules with the processes being influenced by factors such as PZC, pKa, and pH. Furthermore, experiments were conducted to analyze the adsorption characteristics of indigo dye on the surfaces of the materials and its impact on the catalytic ozonation process. MWCNT demonstrated the highest adsorption efficiency, effectively removing 43.4% of the indigo dye color over 60 s. Although the efficiency achieved with C3N4-TE was 21.4%, which is approximately half of that achieved with MWCNT and less than half of that with AC, it is noteworthy given the significantly lower surface area of C3N4-TE. Redox-active porous organic polymers (POPs) demonstrate significant potential in supercapacitors. However, their intrinsic low electrical conductivity and stacking tendencies often lead to low utilization rates of redox-active sites within their structural units. Herein, polyimide POPs (donated as PMTA) are synthesized in situ on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) from tetramino-benzoquinone (TABQ) and 1,4,5,8-naphthalene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PMDA) monomers. The strong π–π stacking interactions drive the PMTA POPs and the MWCNTs together to form a PMTA/MWCNT composite. With the assistance of MWCNTs, the stacking issue and low conductivity of PMTA POPs are well addressed, leading to the obvious activation and enhanced utilization of the redox-active groups in the PMTA POPs. PMTA/MWCNT then achieves a high capacitance of 375.2 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 as compared to the pristine PMTA POPs (5.7 F g−1) and excellent cycling stability of 89.7% after 8000 cycles at 5 A g−1. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and in situ Fourier-Transform Infrared (FT-IR) results reveal that the electrode reactions involve the reversible structural evolution of carbonyl groups, which are activated to provide rich pseudocapacitance. Asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) assembled with PMTA/MWCNTs and activated carbon (AC) offer a high energy density of 15.4 Wh kg−1 at 980.4 W kg−1 and maintain a capacitance retention of 125% after 10,000 cycles at 5 A g−1, indicating their good potential for practical applications. Inflammation is associated with an increased risk of developing various cancers in both animals and humans, primarily solid tumors but also myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), a type of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) increasingly used in medical research and other fields, are leading to a rising human exposure. Our study demonstrated that exposing mice to MWCNTs accelerated the progression of spontaneous MOL4070LTR virus-induced leukemia. Additionally, similar exposures elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a murine macrophage cell line. These effects were significantly reduced in immunodeficient mice and when mice were treated with methoxypolyethylene glycol amine (PEG)-modified MWCNTs. Cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) in seawater enter the human body through the food chain. Combined toxicity tests indicated that high concentrations of Cd(II) and low concentrations of Zn(II) had a synergistic effect on humans. Thus, there is an urgent need to prepare a sensor for rapid and simultaneous detection of Cd(II) and Zn(II) in seawater. Herein, a reduced graphene oxide/carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotube (rGO/MWCNT-COOH)-modified glassy carbon electrode was prepared in the experiments using the dropping method. The synthesis of various materials achieved the purpose of expanding the surface area, and scanning electron microscopy was used to observe the structure of the composite membrane. Moreover, the large number of functional groups on the surface of the composite membrane can also increase the adsorption of ions. For the determination of trace cadmium (II) and zinc (II) in seawater, the method used was differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The results show that the peak current, which was obtained in the range of 5–400 μg/L for Cd(II) and Zn(II), has a linear relationship with concentration, corresponding to the detection limits of 0.8 μg/L for Cd(II) and 0.98 μg/L for Zn(II). The modified electrode was used to determine the Cd(II) and Zn(II) content in the coastal seawater of the Maowei Sea, and the recovery rate was between 95.8 and 98.2% for Cd(II) and 96.7~99.4% for Zn(II), which provided a novel approach of detection to define trace Cd(II) and Zn(II) in seawater. This work is focused on the thermophysical and tribological study of eight nanolubricant compositions based on a polyalphaolefin (PAO 20) and two different nanoadditives: multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). Regarding the thermophysical properties, density and dynamic viscosity of the base oil and the nanolubricants were measured in the range of 278.15–373.15 K, as well as their viscosity index, with the aim of evaluating the variation of these properties with the addition of the nanoadditives. On the other hand, their lubricant properties, such as contact angle, coefficient of friction, and wear surface, were determined to analyze the influence of the nanoadditives on the tribological performance of the base oil. The results showed that MWCNTs and h-BN nanoadditives improved the wear area by 29% and 37%, respectively, at a 0.05 wt% concentration. The density and dynamic viscosity increased compared with the base oil as the nanoadditive concentration increased. Disposable sensors are inexpensive, user-friendly sensing tools designed for rapid single-point measurements of a target. Disposable sensors have become more and more essential as diagnostic tools due to the growing demand for quick, easy-to-access, and reliable information related to the target. Dopamine (DA), a prevalent catecholamine neurotransmitter in the human brain, is associated with central nervous system activities and directly promotes neuronal communication. For the sensitive and selective estimation of DA, an enzyme-free amperometric sensor based on polyaniline-doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PANI-MWCNTs) drop-coated disposable screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) was fabricated. This PANI-MWCNTs-2/SPCE sensor boasts exceptional accuracy and sensitivity when working directly with ex vivo mouse brain homogenates. The sensor exhibited a detection limit of 0.05 μM (S/N = 3), and a wide linear range from 1.0 to 200 μM. The sensor's high selectivity to DA amidst other endogenous interferents was recognized. Since the constructed sensor is enzyme-free yet biocompatible, it exhibited high stability in DA detection using ex vivo mouse brain homogenates extracted from both Parkinson's disease and control mice models. Plastics offer many advantages and are widely used in various fields. Nevertheless, most plastics derived from petroleum are slow to degrade due to their stable polymer structure, posing serious threats to organisms and ecosystems. Thus, developing environmentally friendly and biodegradable plastics is imperative. In this study, biodegradable cellulose/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MCNT) hybrid gels and films with improved ultraviolet-shielding properties were successfully prepared using cotton textile waste as a resource. It was proven that MCNTs can be dispersed evenly in cellulose without any chemical or physical pretreatment. It was found that the contents of MCNTs had obvious effects on the structures and properties of hybrid films. Particularly, the averaged transmittance of cellulose/MCNT composite films in the range of 320–400 nm (T320–400) and 290–320 nm (T290–320) can be as low as 19.91% and 16.09%, when the content of MCNTs was 4.0%, much lower than those of pure cellulose films (T320–400: 84.12% and T290–320: 80.03%). Meanwhile, the water contact angles of the cellulose/MCNT films were increased by increasing the content of MCNTs. Most importantly, the mechanical performance of cellulose/MCNT films could be controlled by the additives of glycerol and MCNTs. The tensile strength of the cellulose/MCNT films was able to reach as high as 20.58 MPa, while the elongation at break was about 31.35%. To summarize, transparent cellulose/MCNT composites with enhanced ultraviolet-shielding properties can be manufactured successfully from low-cost cotton textile waste, which is beneficial not only in terms of environmental protection, but also the utilization of natural resources. The structural and electro-thermophysical characteristics of organosilicon elastomers modified with multilayer carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) synthesized on Co-Mo/Al2O3-MgO and metallic (Cu or Ni) microparticles have been studied. The structures were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The main focus of this study was the influence of metallic dispersed fillers on the resistance of a modified elastomer with Cu and Ni to the degradation of electrophysical parameters under the action of applied electrical voltage. The distribution of the temperature field on the surface of a modified polymer composite with metallic micro-dimensional structures has been recorded. The collected data demonstrate the possibility of controlling the degradation caused by electrical voltage. It has been found that repeated on/off turns of the elastomer with an MWCNTs on 50 and 100 cycles leads to a deterioration in the properties of the conductive elastomer from the available power of 1.1 kW/m2 (−40 °C) and, as a consequence, a decrease in the power to 0.3 kW/m2 (−40 °C) after 100 on/off cycles. At the same time, the Ni additive allows increasing the power by 1.4 kW/m2 (−40 °C) and reducing the intensity of the degradation of the conductive structures (after 100 on/off cycles up to 1.2 kW/m2 (−40 °C). When Ni is replaced by Cu, the power of the modified composite in the heating mode increases to 1.6 kW/m2 (−40 °C) and, at the same time, the degradation of the conductive structures in the composite decreases in the mode of cyclic offensives (50 and 100 cycles) (1.5 kW/m2 (−40 °C)). It was found that the best result in terms of heat removal is typical for an elastomer sample with an MWCNTs and Cu (temperature reaches 93.9 °C), which indicates an intensification of the heat removal from the most overheated places of the composite structure. At the same time, the maximum temperature for the Ni additives reaches 86.7 °C. A sample without the addition of a micro-sized metal is characterized by the local unevenness of the temperature field distribution, which causes undesirable internal overheating and destruction of the current-conducting structures based on the MWCNTs. The maximum temperature at the same time reaches a value of 49.8 °C. The conducted studies of the distribution of the micro-sizes of Ni and Cu show that Cu, due to its larger particles, improves internal heat exchange and intensifies heat release to the surface of the heater sample, which improves the temperature regime of the MWCNTs and, accordingly, increases resistance to electrophysical degradation. Toxic heavy metals are ubiquitous in the aquatic environment and show a significant danger to human health. Carbon nanotubes have been extensively used in treating the contamination of groundwater due to their porous multi-layer nature. Batch tests revealed that oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (O-MWCNTS) offer better removal of Pb(II). The removal rate of Pb(II) was 90.15% at pH 6 within 24 h, which was ~58% more than that of Cd(II). The removal rate decreased to 55.59% for Pb(II) and to 16.68% for Cd(II) when the initial concentration of Pb(II)/Cd(II) ranged from 5 to 15 mg·g−1. The removal rate in the competitive tests was about 60.46% for Pb(II) and 9.70% for Cd(II). The Langmuir model offered better description of the adsorptive data for both ions. And the Qm of Pb(II) was 5.73 mg·g−1, which was 2.39 mg·g−1 more than that of Cd(II) in a single-icon system, while Qm was 7.11 mg·g−1 with Pb(II) and 0.78 mg·g−1 with Cd(II) in competitive water. And thermodynamic tests further indicated that the activating energy of Pb(II) and Cd(II) was 83.68 and 172.88 kJ·mol−1, respectively. Lead and cadmium adsorbed on the surface of O-MWCNTS are antagonistic in the competitive system. Based on XPS analyses, it was concluded that the absorbed lead/cadmium species on O-MWCNTS were (-COO)2Pb, (-COO)Pb(-O)/(-COO)2Cd, and (-COO)Cd(-O). The materials currently used for bone prostheses are mainly metals such as titanium alloy. Compared with human cortical bone, traditional metals exhibit high elastic moduli, which may lead to stress shielding. In contrast, the mechanical strength and elastic modulus of polyetheretherketone are slightly lower than those of human bone. In this study, we utilize multi-component co-modification in order to improve the mechanical properties of polyetheretherketone materials. Firstly, we blended three types of materials: multi-walled carbon nanotubes, nanohydroxyapatite, and carbon fibers. Then, the blended materials were used to reinforce polyetheretherketone, and the preparation of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes/nanohydroxyapatite/carbon fibers was described in detail. After the contact angle was determined, SEM, thermogravimetric analysis, and various tests were conducted on the ternary composites. Ball milling co-mingling technology was used to prepare tetrad composite specimens for tensile and compression experiments, a finite element model of the tetrad composite tensile and compression specimens was established, and the structural stresses of the specimens were analyzed under the specified loads. The experimental results show that the surface roughness of carbon fiber increased, and the multi-walled carbon nanotube/nanohydroxyapatite/carbon fiber/polyetheretherketone quaternary composites were well optimized in terms of strength and elastic modulus, which broadens the application field of polyetheretherketone materials. D-penicillamine (D-PA) is a sulfur-containing drug that has been used for various health conditions. However, like any medication, overdosing on D-PA can have adverse effects and may require additional treatment. Therefore, developing simple and sensitive methods for sensing D-PA can play a crucial role in improving its efficacy and reducing its side effects. Sensing technologies, such as electrochemical sensors, can enable accurate and real-time measurement of D-PA concentrations. In this work, we developed a novel electrochemical sensor for detecting D-PA by modifying a carbon paste electrode (CPE) with a multi-walled carbon nanotube-Co3O4 nanocomposite, benzoyl-ferrocene (BF), and ionic liquid (IL) (MWCNT-Co3O4/BF/ILCPE). Cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and chronoamperometry (CHA) were employed to explore the electrochemical response of D-PA on the developed sensor, the results of which verified a commendable electrochemical performance towards D-PA. Under optimized conditions, the developed sensor demonstrated a rapid response to D-PA with a linear dynamic range of 0.05 μM–100.0 μM, a low detection limit of 0.015 μM, and a considerable sensitivity of 0.179 μA μM−1. Also, the repeatability, stability, and reproducibility of the MWCNT-Co3O4/BF/ILCPE sensor were studied and showed good characteristics. Ammonia (NH3) is vital in modern agriculture and industry as a potential energy carrier. The electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate (NO3−) to ammonia under ambient conditions offers a sustainable alternative to the energy-intensive Haber−Bosch process. However, achieving high selectivity in this conversion poses significant challenges due to the multi-step electron and proton transfer processes and the low proton adsorption capacity of transition metal electrocatalysts. Herein, we introduce a novel approach by employing functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as carriers for active cobalt catalysts. The exceptional conductivity of MWCNTs significantly reduces charge transfer resistance. Their unique hollow structure increases the electrochemical active surface area of the electrocatalyst. Additionally, the one-dimensional hollow tube structure and graphite-like layers within MWCNTs enhance adsorption properties, thus mitigating the diffusion of intermediate and stabilizing active cobalt species during nitrate reduction reaction (NitRR). Using the MWCNT-supported cobalt catalyst, we achieved a notable NH3 yield rate of 4.03 mg h−1 cm−2 and a high Faradaic efficiency of 84.72% in 0.1 M KOH with 0.1 M NO3−. In this work, we investigated the effect of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and bio-graphene (bG) on the structure and activity of glucose oxidase (GOx), as well as on the performance of the respective electrochemical glucose biosensors. Various spectroscopic techniques were applied to evaluate conformational changes in GOx molecules induced by the presence of MWCNTs and bG. The results showed that MWCNTs induced changes in the flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) prosthetic group of GOx, and the tryptophan residues were exposed to a more hydrophobic environment. Moreover, MWCNTs caused protein unfolding and conversion of α-helix to β-sheet structure, whereas bG did not affect the secondary and tertiary structure of GOx. The effect of the structural changes was mirrored by a decrease in the activity of GOx (7%) in the presence of MWCNTs, whereas the enzyme preserved its activity in the presence of bG. The beneficial properties of bG over MWCNTs on GOx activity were further supported by electrochemical data at two glucose biosensors based on GOx entrapped in chitosan gel in the presence of bG or MWCNTs. bG-based biosensors exhibited a 1.33-fold increased sensitivity and improved reproducibility for determining glucose over the sweat-relevant concentration range of glucose. In order to improve the mechanical properties and durability of cement-based materials, a certain amount of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and polypropylene fiber (PP fiber) were incorporated into cement-based materials. The mechanical properties of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes/polypropylene fiber cement-based materials were evaluated using flexural strength tests, compressive strength tests, and splitting tensile tests. The effects of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and polypropylene fiber on the durability of cement-based materials were studied using drying shrinkage tests and freeze–thaw cycle tests. The effects of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes and polypropylene fibers on the microstructure and pore structure of the cement-based materials were compared and analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and mercury intrusion tests. The results showed that the mechanical properties and durability of cement-based materials can be significantly improved when the content of multi-walled carbon nanotubes is 0.1–0.15%. The compressive strength can be increased by 9.5% and the mass loss rate is reduced by 27.9%. Polypropylene fiber has little effect on the compressive strength of the cement-based materials, but it significantly enhances the toughness of the cement-based materials. When its content is 0.2–0.3%, it has the best effect on improving the mechanical properties and durability of the cement-based materials. The flexural strength is increased by 19.1%, and the dry shrinkage rate and water loss rate are reduced by 14.3% and 16.1%, respectively. The three-dimensional network structure formed by the polypropylene fiber in the composite material plays a role in toughening and cracking resistance, but it has a certain negative impact on the pore structure of the composite material. The incorporation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes can improve the bonding performance of the polypropylene fiber and cement matrix, make up for the internal defects caused by the polypropylene fiber, and reduce the number of harmful holes and multiple harmful holes so that the cement-based composite material not only has a significant increase in toughness but also has a denser internal structure. In this paper, the feasibility of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-modified clay as a landfill liner material is investigated. Experiments were conducted on the modified clay with 0.5%, 1%, and 2% MWCNTs. The effects of the MWCNTs on the compaction characteristics, permeability coefficient, stress–strain curve, peak deviation stress, shear strength parameters (internal friction angle and cohesion), microstructures, and adsorption performance of the clay were analyzed. The results showed that the optimum moisture content (OMC) increased from 16.15% to 18.89%, and the maximum dry density (MDD) decreased from 1.79 g/cm3 to 1.72 g/cm3 with the increase in MWCNTs. The permeability coefficients firstly fell and then gradually rose as the MWCNTs increased; the minimum permeability coefficient was 8.62 × 10−9 cm/s. The MWCNTs can also effectively increase the peak deviation stress of the clay, and at the maximum level, the peak deviation stress was increased by 286%. SEM images were processed using the Pore and Crack Analysis System (PCAS), and the results showed that the appropriate amount of MWCNTs could fill the pores and strengthen the clay structure. The effect of the MWCNT-modified clay on the adsorption performance of common heavy metal ions Cd2+, Mn2+ and Cu2+ in landfill leachate was analyzed by batch adsorption tests. The maximum adsorption capacities (Qmax) of Cu2+, Cd2+ and Mn2+ in the 2% MWCNT-modified clay were, respectively, 41.67 mg/g, 18.69 mg/g, and 4.97 mg/g. Compared with the clay samples without MWCNTs, the adsorption properties of Cu2+, Cd2+, and Mn2+ were increased by 228%, 124%, and 202%, respectively. This research delves into the intricate dynamics between multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), air-entraining admixtures (AEAs), and a range of superplasticizers (SPs) in cementitious systems, shedding light on key aspects of construction material innovation. The focus is on how MWCNTs, AEAs, and specific SPs—namely, lignosulfonate (LS), polycarboxylate (PCE), and polyacrylate (PA)—influence the stability of foams and the viscosity and setting times of cement pastes. To assess the impacts of these components, we employed foam stability assessments, viscosity measurement techniques, electrical conductivity analysis, and evaluations of dispersion and setting times. Results indicate that MWCNTs enhance foam stability and viscosity, with the degree of improvement contingent on the type and concentration of SPs and the presence of AEAs. Notably, SPs, particularly PCE and PA, markedly influence the properties of cement paste, including increasing dispersion values and modulating setting times, especially when combined with MWCNTs and AEAs. The study concludes that strategically combining MWCNTs with specific SPs and AEAs alters the physical properties of cementitious materials significantly, underscoring the potential for customizing material design in the construction sector. The objective of this research was to develop highly effective conductive polymer composite (CPC) materials for flexible piezoresistive sensors, utilizing hollow three-dimensional graphitic shells as a highly conductive particulate component. Polystyrene (PS), a cost-effective and robust polymer widely used in various applications such as household appliances, electronics, automotive parts, packaging, and thermal insulation materials, was chosen as the polymer matrix. The hollow spherical three-dimensional graphitic shells (GS) were synthesized through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles serving as a support, which was removed post-synthesis and employed as the conductive filler. Commercial multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used as a reference one-dimensional graphene material. The main focus of this study was to investigate the impact of the GS on the piezoresistive response of carbon/polymer composite thin films. The distribution and arrangement of GS and CNTs in the polymer matrix were analyzed using techniques such as X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, while the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the composites were also evaluated. This study aimed to investigate the heat generated during the hydration process in cementitious composites containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The cumulative heat release and heat flow of these cementitious composites were measured over a period of 168 h using isothermal calorimetry. Three different MWCNT dosages, 0.05 wt%, 0.1 wt%, and 0.2 wt%, along with two different sonication times for the solution, which were 20 min and 60 min, were applied in the experimental program. The results reveal that the incorporation of MWCNTs and the use of a naphthalene-based superplasticizer to disperse the nanotubes generally led to a reduction in heat emission during the early stages of hydration, a lower first peak value in the initial stage of hydration, and a significant delay in the acceleration period compared with the reference sample lacking this superplasticizer. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that both the dosage of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the sonication time have an impact on the heat emission and hydration process since the same amount of superplasticizer was applied to all pastes. An increase in the MWCNT dosage led to a decrease in the rate of hydration heat at the main peak for all pastes. Additionally, longer sonication times resulted in lower values of heat generated, reduced main peak values in the heat rate evolution, and generally extended delays in the occurrence of the main peak. This paper presents a novel modified electrode for an amperometric hydrazine sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) modified with lignosulfonate (LS) and decorated with palladium nanoparticles (NPds). The MWCNT/LS/NPd hybrid was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical properties of the electrode material were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The results showed that GC/MWCNT/LS/NPd possesses potent electrocatalytic properties towards the electro-oxidation of hydrazine. The electrode demonstrated exceptional electrocatalytic activity coupled with a considerable sensitivity of 0.166 μA μM−1 cm−2. The response was linear from 3.0 to 100 µM L−1 and 100 to 10,000 µM L−1, and the LOD was quantified to 0.80 µM L−1. The current work aimed to study nanomodified HPC with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The effect of MWCNT concentration, from 0% to 0.6% of cement weight, was evaluated on HPC multi-level output properties, namely, the flowability, mechanical strength, electrical resistivity, and microstructure. In addition, a tentative, simplified, and more cost-effective method based on dispersion of a high-pH solution of hydroxide was also adapted to disperse the MWCNT before incorporation in fresh HPC mixtures. Adding 0.2–0.6% MWCNT reduced HPC workability even with a higher superplasticiser dosage. The electrical resistivity was 484.58 Ω m for the HPC without MWCNT at 28 days of curing, while the samples with 0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.6% MWCNT presented 341.41 Ω m, 363.44 Ω m, and 360.34 Ω m, respectively. The use of 0.2–0.6% MWCNT in HPC decreased the flexural and compressive strength by 20% and 30%, respectively. The HPC performance decrease with MWCNT seemed to be related to relatively significant agglomerations of the long MWCNTs, namely, in HPC-0.6% samples. New developments are needed to state a simple and cost-effective dispersion method for MWCNT incorporation in HPC. In addition, smaller dosages of MWCNT are suggested for future research works. Phenanthrene (PHE), as a structurally simple, tricyclic, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs), is widely present in marine environments and organisms, with serious ecological and health impacts. It is crucial to study fast and simple high-sensitivity detection methods for phenanthrene in seawater for the environment and the human body. In this paper, a immunosensor was prepared by using a multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs)-chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) nanocomposite membrane loaded with phenanthrene antibody. The principle was based on the antibody–antigen reaction in the immune reaction, using the strong electron transfer ability of multi-walled carbon nanotubes, coupled with chitosan oligosaccharides with an excellent film formation and biocompatibility, to amplify the detection signal. The content of the phenanthrene in seawater was studied via differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using a potassium ferricyanide system as a redox probe. The antibody concentration, pH value, and probe concentration were optimized. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the response peak current of the phenanthrene was inversely proportional to the concentration of phenanthrene, in the range from 0.5 ng·mL−1 to 80 ng·mL−1, and the detection limit was 0.30 ng·mL−1. The immune sensor was successfully applied to the detection of phenanthrene in marine water, with a recovery rate of 96.1~101.5%, and provided a stable, sensitive, and accurate method for the real-time monitoring of marine environments. The application of hydroxyapatite (HAp)/multi-walled carbon nanotube composites in the medical area as coatings in prosthetics has been widely used because the carbon nanotubes reinforce the mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite. Despite that, their photoluminescent properties have not been studied, nor has the effect of different amounts of multi-walled carbon nanotubes on this property or what happened with their response with time. This work demonstrated that the photoluminescent response of HAp and HAp/multi-walled carbon nanotubes functionalized with oxygen groups (OMWCNT) composites was stabilized over time. The evaluated parameters were: three different amounts of OMWCNT (15, 25, and 35 mg) and two different thermal treatment temperatures (250 and 400 °C); all the samples were measured twice, after preparation and over a year after. The results indicated that over time the photoluminescent response is stabilized due to the passivation of surface defects, independently of the amount of OMWCNT used and the thermal treatment. Diuron (DU) abuse in weed removal and shipping pollution prevention always leads to pesticide residues and poses a risk to human health. In the current research, an innovative electrochemical sensor for DU detection was created using a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) that had been modified with chitosan-encapsulated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-CS) combined with nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NGQDs). The NGQDs were prepared by high-temperature pyrolysis, and the MWCNTs-CS@NGQDs composite was further prepared by ultrasonic assembly. TEM, UV-Vis, and zeta potential tests were performed to investigate the morphology and properties of MWCNTs-CS@NGQDs. CV and EIS measurements revealed that the assembly of MWCNTs and CS improved the electron transfer ability and effective active area of MWCNTs. Moreover, the introduction of NGQDs further enhanced the detection sensitivity of the designed sensor. The MWCNTs-CS@NGQDs/GCE electrochemical sensor exhibited a wide linear range (0.08~12 μg mL−1), a low limit of detection (0.04 μg mL−1), and high sensitivity (31.62 μA (μg mL−1)−1 cm−2) for DU detection. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrated good anti-interference performance, reproducibility, and stability. This approach has been effectively employed to determine DU in actual samples, with recovery ranges of 99.4~104% in river water and 90.0~94.6% in soil. The elemental composition and structural features of the junction zones of a strontium–alginate hydrogel and their alteration under the intercalation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes into the hydrogel structure were studied. It was shown that the crosslinking with Sr2+ cations due to electrostatic interactions leads to the association of polymer chains into junction zones with incompletely filled cells. It was found that in strontium alginate, the average cell occupation number of Sr2+ cations is less than 1 and approximately equal to 0.64. In nanocomposite hydrogels including multi-walled carbon nanotubes, its increase to 0.81 indicates the appearance of a more ordered structure of alginate chains in junction zones. The information about the most preferred types of egg-box cells for binding with Sr2+ cations was analyzed. The existence of Sr2+ cations in nonequivalent positions was established. The possibility of separating the contributions of chemical adsorption due to ionic bonds with alginate chains and physical adsorption due to the appearance of local energy minima near alginate chains, leading to the appearance of ordered secondary structures, was demonstrated. It has been shown that the addition of carbon nanotubes to a hydrogel changes their sorption capability, leading, first of all, to an increase in the possible sites of physical adsorption. This study details microwave-absorbing materials made of natural rubber/nitrile butadiene rubber (NR/NBR) blends with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). The mechanical blending method and the influences of fabrication on the morphology and microwave-absorbing performance of resulting compounds were logically investigated. It was found that interfacial differences between the fillers and matrix promote the formation of MWCNTs and MoS2 networks in NR/NBR blends, thus improving microwave-absorbing performance. Compared with direct compounding, masterbatch-based two-step blending is more conducive to forming interpenetrating networks of MWCNTs/MoS2, endowing the resulting composite with better microwave attenuation capacity. Composites with MWCNTs in NR and MoS2 in NBR demonstrate the best microwave-absorbing performance, with a minimum reflection loss of −44.54 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.60 GHz. Exploring the relationship between morphology and electromagnetic loss behavior denotes that such improvement results from the selective distribution of dual fillers, inducing networking and multi-component-derived interfacial polarization enhancement. In this proof-of-concept study, a novel hybrid nanomaterial-based electrochemical sensor was developed for the simultaneous detection of four DNA bases. For the modification of the working electrode surface, graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) were synthesized using a solvothermal method. GOQDs were then used for the preparation of a hybrid nanomaterial with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (GOQD-MWCNT) using a solvothermal technique for the first time. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to characterize the GOQDs-MWCNTs. A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified with the GOQDs-MWCNTs using Nafion™ to prepare a GOQD-MWCNT/GCE for the simultaneous determination of four DNA bases in phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH 7.0) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The calibration plots were linear up to 50, 50, 500, and 500 µM with a limit of detection at 0.44, 0.2, 1.6, and 5.6 µM for guanine (G), adenine (A), thymine (T) and cytosine (C), respectively. The hybrid-modified sensor was used for the determination of G, A, T, and C spiked in the artificial saliva samples with the recovery values ranging from 95.9 to 106.8%. A hybrid electromagnetic nanomaterial, which is a matrix based on a conjugated polymer of poly-3-amine-7-methylamine-2-methylphenazine with dispersed magnetite nanoparticles immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotubes, has been synthesized. In situ magnetometry was used to study the kinetics of the hydrogen reduction of Fe 3 O 4 immobilized in the structure of a ternary nanocomposite in magnetic fields of different intensities. An increase in the magnetite reduction reaction rate with the formation of metallic iron nanoparticles at T = 420 ∘ C and at a magnetic field strength in the range of 60–3000 Oe was observed. This paper presents a novel nano-material composite membrane for detecting aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). The membrane is based on carboxyl-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) @ antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO)-chitosan (CS). To prepare the immunosensor, MWCNTs-COOH were dissolved in the CS solution, but some MWCNTs-COOH formed aggregates due to the intertwining of carbon nanotubes, blocking some pores. ATO was added to the solution containing MWCNTs-COOH, and the gaps were filled by adsorbing hydroxide radicals to form a more uniform film. This greatly increased the specific surface area of the formed film, resulting in a nano-composite film that was modified on screen-printed electrodes (SPCEs). The immunosensor was then constructed by immobilizing anti-AFB1 antibodies (Ab) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) on an SPCE successively. The assembly process and effect of the immunosensor were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Under optimized conditions, the prepared immunosensor exhibited a low detection limit of 0.033 ng/mL with a linear range of 1 × 10−3–1 × 103 ng/mL. The immunosensor demonstrated good selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. The impacts on the morphological, electrical and hardness properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) plates using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as reinforcing fillers have been investigated, using MWCNT loadings between 1 and 7 wt%. Plates of the TPU/MWCNT nanocomposites were fabricated by compression molding from extruded pellets. An X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the incorporation of MWCNTs into the TPU polymer matrix increases the ordered range of the soft and hard segments. SEM images revealed that the fabrication route used here helped to obtain TPU/MWCNT nanocomposites with a uniform dispersion of the nanotubes inside the TPU matrix and promoted the creation of a conductive network that favors the electronic conduction of the composite. The potential of the impedance spectroscopy technique has been used to determine that the TPU/MWCNT plates exhibited two conduction mechanisms, percolation and tunneling conduction of electrons, and their conductivity values increase as the MWCNT loading increases. Finally, although the fabrication route induced a hardness reduction with respect to the pure TPU, the addition of MWCNT increased the Shore A hardness behavior of the TPU plates. Carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and nano-silica (nano-SiO2) are widely used in the field of life science because of their special physical and chemical properties. In this study, the effects of different concentrations of MWCNTs (0 mg·L−1, 200 mg·L−1, 400 mg·L−1, 800 mg·L−1 and 1200 mg·L−1) and nano-SiO2 (0 mg·L−1, 150 mg·L−1, 800 mg·L−1, 1500 mg·L−1 and 2500 mg·L−1) on maize seedling growth and relative mechanisms were explored. The main results are as follows: MWCNTs and nano-SiO2 can promote the growth of maize seedlings, and promote plant height, root length, the dry and fresh weight of seedlings, root–shoot ratio and so on. The ability to accumulate dry matter increased, the relative water content of leaves increased, the electrical conductivity of leaves decreased, the stability of cell membranes improved and the water metabolism ability of maize seedlings increased. The treatment of MWCNTs with 800 mg·L−1 and nano-SiO2 with 1500 mg·L−1 had the best effect on seedling growth. MWCNTs and nano-SiO2 can promote the development of root morphology, increase root length, root surface area, average diameter, root volume and total root tip number and improve root activity, so as to improve the absorption capacity of roots to water and nutrition. After MWCNT and nano-SiO2 treatment, compared with the control, the contents of O2·− and H2O2 decreased, and the damage of reactive oxygen free radicals to cells decreased. MWCNTs and nano-SiO2 can promote the clearance of reactive oxygen species and maintain the complete structure of cells, so as to slow down plant aging. The promoting effect of MWCNTs treated with 800 mg·L−1 and nano-SiO2 treated with 1500 mg·L−1 had the best effect. After treatment with MWCNTs and nano-SiO2, the activities of key photosynthesis enzymes PEPC, Rubisco, NADP-ME, NADP-MDH and PPDK of maize seedlings increased, which promoted the opening of stomata, improved the fixation efficiency of CO2, improved the photosynthetic process of maize plants and promoted plant growth. The promoting effect was the best when the concentration of MWCNTs was 800 mg·L−1 and the concentration of nano-SiO2 was 1500 mg·L−1. MWCNTs and nano-SiO2 can increase the activities of the enzymes GS, GOGAT, GAD and GDH related to nitrogen metabolism in maize leaves and roots, and can increase the content of pyruvate, so as to promote the synthesis of carbohydrates and the utilization of nitrogen and promote plant growth. Glucose sensors based blood glucose detection are of great significance for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes because diabetes has aroused wide concern in the world. In this study, bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used to cross-link glucose oxidase (GOD) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by a composite of hydroxy fullerene (HFs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and protected with a glutaraldehyde (GLA)/Nafion (NF) composite membrane to prepare a novel glucose biosensor. The modified materials were analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The prepared MWCNTs-HFs composite has excellent conductivity, the addition of BSA regulates MWCNTs-HFs hydrophobicity and biocompatibility, and better immobilizes GOD on MWCNTs-HFs. MWCNTs-BSA-HFs plays a synergistic role in the electrochemical response to glucose. The biosensor shows high sensitivity (167 μA·mM−1·cm−2), wide calibration range (0.01–3.5 mM), and low detection limit (17 μM). The apparent Michaelis–Menten constant K m app is 119 μM. Additionally, the proposed biosensor has good selectivity and excellent storage stability (120 days). Wearable flexible sensors with high sensitivity and wide detection range are applied in motion detection, medical diagnostic result and other fields, but poor resilience and hysteresis remain a challenge. In this study, a high-resilience foam sensor was prepared through a combination of additive manufacturing and green physical foaming method. The conductive filaments were prepared by using MWCNTs-modified TPU by the physical method of melt blending. Samples were prefabricated using the FFF printer and then saturated with CO2 in an autoclave before being removed and heated to foam. The composite foam effectively reduced residual strain, demonstrating the high resilience of the 3D-printed composite materials with a foam porous structure. The residual strain of the sample before foaming was >6% after a single cycle, and then gradually increased. The residual strain of the foamed samples is less than 5%. In addition, composite foam has high sensitivity and can monitor subtle pressure changes (0~40 kPa). The sensing performance of the composite foam was evaluated, and the current signal remained stable under different loading rates and small compression strains (2~5%). In order to realize effective monitoring for the working performance of seismic isolation structures, a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ) composite was prepared via mechanical blending using dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butyl peroxy)hexane (DBPMH) as vulcanizing agents. The effects of the different vulcanizing agents on the dispersion of the MWCNT, electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, and resistance–strain response of the composites were investigated. The experimental results showed that the percolation threshold of the composites prepared with the two vulcanizing agents was low, while the DCP-vulcanized composites showed high mechanical properties and a better resistance–strain response sensitivity and stability, especially after 15,000 loading cycles. According to the analysis using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier infrared spectroscopy, it was found that the DCP contributed higher vulcanization activity, a denser cross-linking network, better and uniform dispersion, and a more stable damage–reconstruction mechanism for the MWCNT network during the deformation load. Thus, the DCP-vulcanized composites showed better mechanical performance and electrical response abilities. When employing an analytical model based on the tunnel effect theory, the mechanism of the resistance–strain response was explained, and the potential of this composite for real-time strain monitoring for large deformation structures was confirmed. Rutin is a natural antioxidant flavonoid compound with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiviral effects that is used to prepare drugs with wide application in clinical treatment. Therefore, the quantitative detection of rutin has important practical significance. In this work, a novel electrochemical sensor based on glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) modified with sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and 1-butyl-3-methylimid (ionic liquid, IL) was developed for the super-sensitive detection of the flavonoid rutin. The properties of these modified materials were analyzed by transmission electron microscope (TEM), cyclic voltammograms (CVs), and electrochemical-impedance spectroscopy (EIS). CMC was used to disperse MWCNTs to further enhance their hydrophilicity and biocompatibility. The modified MWCNTs improved the sensitivity of rutin detection. The square-wave voltammetry (SWV) technique showed that the linear range of rutin concentration determination was 0.01 μM to 1 µM and 1 µM to 10 µM. The minimum concentration detection of rutin was 0.83 nM and 6.6 nM, respectively. The proposed sensor presented good selectivity for rutin and successfully analyzed rutin content in the pharmaceutical rutin tablets. These results are consistent with those measured by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess excellent physicochemical and structural properties alongside their nano dimensions, constituting a medical platform for the delivery of different therapeutic molecules and drug systems. Hydroxytyrosol (HT) is a molecule with potent antioxidant properties that, however, is rapidly metabolized in the organism. HT immobilized on functionalized CNTs could improve its oral absorption and protect it against rapid degradation and elimination. This study investigated the effects of cellular oxidized multiwall carbon nanotubes (oxMWCNTs) as biocompatible carriers of HT. The oxidation of MWCNTs via H2SO4 and HNO3 has a double effect since it leads to increased hydrophilicity, while the introduced oxygen functionalities can contribute to the delivery of the drug. The in vitro effects of HT, oxMWCNTS, and oxMWCNTS functionalized with HT (oxMWCNTS_HT) were studied against two different cell lines (NIH/3T3 and Tg/Tg). We evaluated the toxicity (MTT and clonogenic assay), cell cycle arrest, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. Both cell lines coped with oxMWCNTs even at high doses. oxMWCNTS_HT acted as pro-oxidants in Tg/Tg cells and as antioxidants in NIH/3T3 cells. Polymer foam that provides good support with high energy return (low energy loss) is desirable for sport footwear to improve running performance. Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) foam is commonly used in the midsole of running shoes. However, EVA foam exhibits low mechanical properties. Conventional mineral fillers are usually employed to improve EVA's mechanical performance, but the energy return is sacrificed. Here, we produced nanocomposite foams from EVA and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) using a chemical foaming process. Two kinds of CNT derived from the upcycling of commodity plastics were prepared through a catalytic chemical vapor deposition process and used as reinforcing and nucleating agents. Our results show that EVA foam incorporated with oxygenated CNT (O-CNT) demonstrated a more pronounced improvement of physical, mechanical, and dynamic impact response properties than acid-purified CNT (A-CNT). When CNT with weight percentage as low as 0.5 wt% was added to the nanocomposites, the physical properties, abrasion resistance, compressive strength, dynamic stiffness, and rebound performance of the EVA foams were improved significantly. Unlike the conventional EVA formulation filled with talc mineral fillers, the incorporation of CNT does not compromise the energy return of the EVA foam. From the long-cycle dynamic fatigue test, the CNT/EVA foam displays greater properties retention as compared to the talc/EVA foam. This work demonstrates a good balanced of mechanical-energy return properties of EVA nanocomposite foam with very low CNT content, which presents promising opportunities for lightweight–high rebound midsoles for running shoes. Polyacrylic acid (PAA) chains were used to decorate the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) via in situ free radical polymerization, and sulfonated chitosan (SCS) was synthesized via a simple and environmental method. Silver-ammonia ions were introduced as the fixative with PAA-MWCNTs as the basic framework, and SCS was used to decorate the surface, thereby obtaining PAA-MWCNTs-Ag-SCS. The modified electrode exhibited excellent cyclic voltammogram (CV) stability after 100 cycles of scanning. According to differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), the peak current value was approximately 250 μA, exhibiting outstanding sensitivity to phenylglycinamide (Pen) enantiomers. The peak current ratio of D-Pen to L-Pen reached 2.16, showing excellent selectivity. The detection limit (DL) was calculated as 0.015 mM and 0.036 mM for L-Pen and D-Pen, respectively, using the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N = 3). Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) serve as nanoparticles due to their size, and for that reason, when in contact with the biological system, they can have toxic effects. One of the main mechanisms responsible for nanotoxicity is oxidative stress resulting from the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, oxidative stress biomarkers are important tools for assessing MWCNTs toxicity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the oxidative stress of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in male rats. Our animal model studies of MWCNTs (diameter ~15–30 nm, length ~15–20 μm) include measurement of oxidative stress parameters in the body fluid and tissues of animals after long-term exposure. Rattus Norvegicus/Wistar male rats were administrated a single injection to the knee joint at three concentrations: 0.03 mg/mL, 0.25 mg/mL, and 0.5 mg/mL. The rats were euthanized 12 and 18 months post-exposure by drawing blood from the heart, and their liver and kidney tissues were removed. To evaluate toxicity, the enzymatic activity of total protein (TP), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione S–transferase (GST), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), nitric oxide (NO), and catalase (CAT) was measured and histopathological examination was conducted. Results in rat livers showed that TEAC level was decreased in rats receiving nanotubes at higher concentrations. Results in kidneys report that the level of NO showed higher concentration after long exposure, and results in animal serums showed lower levels of GSH in rats exposed to nanotubes at higher concentrations. The 18-month exposure also resulted in a statistically significant increase in GST activity in the group of rats exposed to nanotubes at higher concentrations compared to animals receiving MWCNTs at lower concentrations and compared to the control group. The need for Alpha2-Macroglobulin (α2-M) detection has increased because it plays an important role in the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, few sensors can realize the high-sensitive detection for α2-M with characteristics of being fast, flexible, wearable and portable. Herein, a biosensor based on a MnFe2O4@chitosan/MWCNTs/PDMS composite film was developed for α2-M detection. Due to the excellent magnetoelastic effect of MnFe2O4 nanoparticles, the stress signal of the biosensor surface induced by the specific antibody–antigen binding was transformed into the electrical and magnetic signal. Chitosan-coated MnFe2O4 particles were used to provide biological modification sites for the α2-M antibody, which simplified the conventional biological functionalization modification process. The MnFe2O4@chitosan particles were successfully prepared by a chemical coprecipitation method and the property was studied by TEM, FT-IR and XRD. MWCNTs were employed to enhance electrical conductivity and the sensitivity of the biosensor. The detection limit (LOD) was reduced to 0.1299 ng·mL−1 in the linear range from 10 ng∙mL−1 to 100 µg·mL−1, which was significantly lower than the limit of health diagnostics. The biosensor is fabricated by a simple method, with advantages of being rapid and highly-sensitive, and having selective detection of α2-M, which provides a novel method for the early diagnosis of DN, and it has potential in the point of care (PoC) field. Composite bipolar plates with excellent performance play a crucial role in improving the overall performance of proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells. However, for graphite/resin composite bipolar plates, their electrical conductivity and mechanical properties are often too complex to meet the needs of users at the same time. Although nanoconductive fillers can alleviate this problem, the performance improvement for composite bipolar plates is often limited due to problems such as agglomeration. In this study, a uniformly dispersed multi-walled carbon nanotube network was prepared by in situ vapor deposition on the surface and pores of expanded graphite, which effectively avoided the problem of agglomeration and effectively improved the various properties of the composite BPs through the synergistic effect with graphite. With the addition of 2% in situ deposited carbon nanotubes, the modified composite bipolar plate has the best conductivity (334.53 S/cm) and flexural strength (50.24 MPa), and all the properties can meet the DOE requirements in 2025. Using the in situ deposition of carbon nanotubes to modify composite bipolar plates is a feasible route because it can result in multi-walled carbon nanotubes in large quantities and avoid the agglomeration phenomenon caused by adding nanofillers. Nitrogen-doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes (N-MWCNTs) are widely used for drug delivery. One of the main challenges is to clarify their interaction with hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α), the lack of which leads to oncological and cardiovascular diseases. In the presented study, N-MWCNTs were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition and irradiated with argon ions. Their chemical state, local structure, interfaces, Stone–Wales defects, and doping with nitrogen were analyzed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy. Using experimental data, supercells of functionalized N-MWCNTs with an oxygen content of 2.7, 4 and 6 at. % in carboxyl groups were built by quantum chemical methods. Our analysis by the self-consistent charge density functional tight-binding (SCC DFTB) method shows that a key role in the functionalization of CNTs with carboxyl groups belongs to Stone–Wales defects. The results of research in the decoration of CNTs with HIF-1α demonstrate the possibility of wave-diffusion drug delivery. The nature of hybridization and relaxation determines the mechanism of oxygen regulation with HIF-1α molecules, namely, by OH-(OH–C) and OH-(O=C) chemical bonds. The concentration dependence of drug release in the diffusion mode suggests that the best pattern for drug delivery is provided by the tube with a carboxylic oxygen content of 6 at. %. The influence of the chemical composition of natural waters on triclocarban (TCC) sorption on pristine and irradiated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) at different temperatures was studied. Natural waters have been characterized in terms of the concentrations of cations and anions, pH, and electric conductivity. The sorption process of TCC on MWCNTs is influenced by both the chemical composition of natural waters and the variation of the temperature. The adsorption capacity of TCC on pristine and irradiated MWCNTs in the studied natural waters increased by increasing the temperature. The increase of the concentration of monovalent cations (Na+ and K+) in natural waters determined a significant decrease of the adsorption capacity of TCC on both pristine and irradiated MWCNTs while the increase of the bivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+) determined an easy increase adsorption capacity. Cadaverine is a biomolecule of major healthcare importance in periodontal disease; however, current detection methods remain inefficient. The development of an enzyme biosensor for the detection of cadaverine may provide a cheap, rapid, point-of-care alternative to traditional measurement techniques. This work developed a screen-printed biosensor (SPE) with a diamine oxidase (DAO) and multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) functionalised electrode which enabled the detection of cadaverine via cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The MWCNTs were functionalised with DAO using carbodiimide crosslinking with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) and N-Hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), followed by direct covalent conjugation of the enzyme to amide bonds. Cyclic voltammetry results demonstrated a pair of distinct redox peaks for cadaverine with the C-MWCNT/DAO/EDC-NHS/GA SPE and no redox peaks using unmodified SPEs. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used to isolate the cadaverine oxidation peak and a linear concentration dependence was identified in the range of 3–150 µg/mL. The limit of detection of cadaverine using the C-MWCNT/DAO/EDC-NHS/GA SPE was 0.8 μg/mL, and the biosensor was also found to be effective when tested in artificial saliva which was used as a proof-of-concept model to increase the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of this device. Thus, the development of a MWCNT based enzymatic biosensor for the voltammetric detection of cadaverine which was also active in the presence of artificial saliva was presented in this study. The research on flavonoids has exponentially grown since their first therapeutic evidence, in 1937. They are effective in vitro in a wide range of human diseases, particularly those mediated by free radicals, such as cancer, atherosclerosis, AIDS, or neuronal diseases. However, their applications have been reduced due to their low solubility, poor absorption, and rapid metabolism. Flavonoid encapsulation in nanocarriers significantly improves their oral absorption, protects the drug against degradation, decreases the first-pass hepatic effect, and makes absorption through the lymphatic system easier. In this work, carbon nanotubes were used as nanocarriers of 7-hydroxyflavone, 7-HF. The encapsulation of 7-HF into pristine single- and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and into -COOH functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes has been investigated. The equilibrium association constants were estimated. The structural backbone of 7-HF, two benzene rings linked through three carbon atoms that form a pyran heterocyclic ring containing a keto group, seems to play a key role in the 7-HF/CNT interactions, although other types of interactions are also at work. Conductive polymers and their composites have been widely applied in different applications, including sensing applications. Herein, we constructed a conductive composite of polypropylene, carbon black, and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (PP/CB/MWCNTs) to experimentally study its sensing behaviors in a humid thermal environment. The as-synthesized PP/CB/MWCNT composite polymer was immersed in simulated sweat in deionized water at 67 °C. Regarding their electrical and mechanical properties, different experimental parameters, such as cyclic loading and hygrothermal aging, were investigated by recording the mass changes, carrying out strain sensing experiments, and performing dynamic mechanical analyses before and after the immersion test. The results reveal that the filler content improved the rate of water absorption but decreased at higher concentrations of the solution. The sensitivity of the material decreased by up to 53% after the hygrothermal ageing and cyclic loading. Moreover, the sensitivity under cyclic compression loading decreased with an increasing immersion time, qualitatively illustrated by an effective quantum tunneling effect and conducting path model. Finally, hygrothermal aging reduced the composite's glass transition temperature. This reduction was the most significant for specimens immersed in deionized water, ascribed to the moisture absorption, reducing the molecular chain activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The simultaneous determination of heregulin-α and HER 1–4 plays an important role in brain cancer diagnosis and treatment. To date, only enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or a semiquantitative colorimetric method have been used for the assay of these biomarkers; these methods are quite expensive and can only determine one biomarker in a run. Four 3D stochastic microsensors based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes enriched with gold nanoparticles and modified with inulin were designed for the simultaneous determination of heregulin-α and HER 1–4 in tumor brain tissue and whole blood samples. For the simultaneous measurement of HRG-α and HER 1–4, all sensors demonstrated low limits of determination (as fg mL−1 magnitude order), high sensitivities, and wide concentration ranges. From biological samples, high recovery values of more than 96% of analytes were obtained. Over the last few years, the addition of small amounts of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to construction materials has become of great interest, since it enhances some of the mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of the cement. In this sense, single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs and MWCNTs, respectively) can be incorporated into cement to achieve the above-mentioned improved features. Thus, the current study presents the results of the addition of SWCNTs and MWCNTs on the microstructure and the physical properties of the cement paste. Density was measured through He pycnometry and the mass change was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The microstructure and the phases were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Finally, the electrical conductivity for different CNT concentrations was measured, and an exponential increase of the conductivity with concentration was observed. This last result opens the possibility for these materials to be used in a high variety of fields, such as space intelligent systems with novel electrical and electronic applications. Electrostatic dissipative (ESD), anti-static (AS), and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are commonly based on commodity fossil-fuel-based plastics. This, in turn, contributes to ever-growing non-biodegradable plastic pollution. Graphene nanoplatelets (GN), multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), nanostructured carbon black (NCB), and amorphous carbon black (CB) were utilized as nanofillers to prepare bio-based and biodegradable poly(butylene succinate-co-adipate) (PBSA) nanocomposites. Solvent-cast composites were prepared with 1.1 to 30.0 vol.% nanoparticle loading. The literature mainly focuses on relatively low loadings; therefore, for this research, filler loadings were increased up to 30 vol.% but the maximum loading for NCB and CB loadings only reached 17.4 vol.% due to a lack of dimensional stability at higher loadings. The composites were characterized using tensile testing, volumetric and surface conductivity measurements, thermal conductivity measurements, dielectric spectroscopy in the microwave region, and transmittance in the terahertz range. Tensile tests showed excellent carbon filler compatibility and enhanced tensile strength for loadings up to 5 vol.% (up to 20 vol.% for MWCNT). The highest thermal conductivity values were reached for the MWCNT filler, with the 30.0 vol.% filled composite reaching 0.756 W/mK (262% increase over PBSA). All fillers were able to produce composites that yielded volume conductivities above 10−10 S/m. Composites with MWCNT, GN, and NCB inclusions above the percolation threshold are suitable for EMI applications in the microwave and THz frequency range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Significant agricultural and industrial activities necessitate the regular monitoring of nitrate (NO3−) ions levels in feed and groundwater. The current comparative study discloses an innovative user-friendly electrochemical approach for the determination of NO3− over polyaniline (PAni)-based modified electrodes. The electrochemical sensors concocted with PAni, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT), and gum arabic (GA). The unique electrode material GA@PAni-CNT was synthesized by facile one-pot catalytic polymerization of aniline (Ani) with FeCl3/H2O2 in the presence of CNT and GA as integral components. As revealed by cyclic voltammetry (CV), the anchoring/retention of NO3− followed by reduction is proposed to occur when a GA@PAni-CNT electrode is immersed in phosphate buffer electrolyte containing NO3− that eventually results in a significantly higher redox activity of the GA@PAni-CNT electrode upon potential scan. The mechanism of NO3− anchoring may be associated with the non-redox transition of leucomeraldine salt (LS) into emeraldine salt (ES) and the generation of nitrite (NO2−) ions. As a result, the oxidation current produced by CV for redox transition of ES ↔ pernigraniline (PN) was ~9 times of that obtained with GA@PAni-CNT electrode and phosphate buffer electrolyte, thus achieving indirect NO3− voltammetric determination of the GA@PAni-CNT electrode. The prepared GA@PAni-CNT electrode displayed a higher charge transfer ability as compared to that of PAni-CNT and PAni electrodes. The optimum square wave voltammetric (SWV) response resulted in two linear concentration ranges of 1–10 (R2 = 0.9995) and 15–50 µM (R2 = 0.9988) with a detection limit of 0.42 µM, which is significantly lower. The GA@PAni-CNT electrode demonstrated the best detection, sensitivity, and performance among the investigated electrodes for indirect voltammetric determination of NO3− that portrayed the possibility of utilizing GA—stabilized PAni and CNT nanocomposite materials in additional electrochemical sensing applications.
