This study concerns the problem of integrated optimization of structure and control based on a fast steering mirror, aiming to achieve simultaneous optimization of the mechanical structure and control system. The traditional research and development path of the fast steering mirror involves a lengthy process from the initial design to the final physical manufacture. In the prior process, it was necessary to produce physical prototypes for repeated debugging and iterative optimization to achieve design requirements, but this approach consumes a significant amount of time and cost. To expedite this process and reduce unnecessary experimental costs, this study proposes an integrated optimization of structure and control (IOSC) method. With the use of IOSC, it is possible to achieve simultaneous optimization of structure and control. Specifically, the use of non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) obtains globally optimal controller parameters and mechanical structure parameters under certain performance indices. This achieves an effective balance between the resonance frequency generated by the system and the working bandwidth, providing a high-precision reference for the research and development of fast steering mirrors. Simple Summary: Dynamic chest radiographs offer a distinct advantage over traditional chest radiographs by integrating motion and functional data, elevating their significance in clinical diagnostics. This study introduces a pioneering technique employing deep neural networks to simulate respiratory lung motion and extract local functional details from single-phase chest X-rays, thereby enhancing lung cancer clinical diagnostic capabilities. Our research establishes the viability of generating patient-specific respiratory motion profiles from single-phase chest radiographs. The evaluation of results from the network developed here underscores its substantial accuracy and fidelity, affirming its robustness in providing valuable supplementary insights into pulmonary function. In this study, we present an innovative approach that harnesses deep neural networks to simulate respiratory lung motion and extract local functional information from single-phase chest X-rays, thus providing valuable auxiliary data for early diagnosis of lung cancer. A novel radiograph motion simulation (RMS) network was developed by combining a U-Net and a long short-term memory (LSTM) network for image generation and sequential prediction. By utilizing a spatial transformer network to deform input images, our proposed network ensures accurate image generation. We conducted both qualitative and quantitative assessments to evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed network. The simulated respiratory motion closely aligns with pulmonary biomechanics and reveals enhanced details of pulmonary diseases. The proposed network demonstrates precise prediction of respiratory motion in the test cases, achieving remarkable average Dice scores exceeding 0.96 across all phases. The maximum variation in lung length prediction was observed during the end-exhale phase, with average deviation of 4.76 mm (±6.64) for the left lung and 4.77 mm (±7.00) for the right lung. The constant increase in temperatures under global warming has led to a prolonged aestivation period for Apostichopus japonicus, resulting in considerable losses in production and economic benefits. However, the specific mechanism of aestivation has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we first tried to illustrate the biological mechanisms of aestivation from the perspective of the gut microbiota and metabolites. Significant differences were found in the gut microbiota of aestivating adult A. japonicus (AAJSD group) compared with nonaestivating adult A. japonicus (AAJRT group) and young A. japonicus (YAJRT and YAJSD groups) based on 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing analysis. The abundances of Desulfobacterota, Myxococcota, Bdellovibrionota, and Firmicutes (4 phyla) in the AAJSD group significantly increased. Moreover, the levels of Pseudoalteromonas, Fusibacter, Labilibacter, Litorilituus, Flammeovirga, Polaribacter, Ferrimonas, PB19, and Blfdi19 genera were significantly higher in the AAJSD group than in the other three groups. Further analysis of the LDA effect size showed that species with significant variation in abundance in the AAJSD group, including the phylum Firmicutes and the genera Litorilituus, Fusibacter, and Abilibacter, might be important biomarkers for aestivating adult A. japonicus. In addition, the results of metabolomics analysis showed that there were three distinct metabolic pathways, namely biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, tryptophan metabolism, and sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthesis in the AAJSD group compared with the other three groups. Notably, 5-hydroxytryptophan was significantly upregulated in the AAJSD group in the tryptophan metabolism pathway. Moreover, the genera Labilibacter, Litorilituus, Ferrimonas, Flammeovirga, Blfdi19, Fusibacter, Pseudoalteromonas, and PB19 with high abundance in the gut of aestivating adult A. japonicus were positively correlated with the metabolite 5-HTP. These findings suggest that there may be potential biological associations among the gut microbiota, metabolites, and aestivation in A. japonicus. A noised phase-unwrapping method is presented by using the Wigner distribution function to filter the phase noise and restore the gradient of the phase map. By using Poisson's equation, the unwrapped phase map was obtained. Compared with the existing methods, the proposed method is theoretically simple, provides a more accurate representation, and can be implemented in light-field hardware devices, such as Shack-Hartmann sensors. Featured Application: This method is mainly applied to gradient index media with a sudden change in refractive index or a large range of refractive index gradient changes, such as around the shock layer of an aircraft. For gradient refractive index media with large refractive index gradients, traditional ray tracing methods based on refined elements or spatial geometric steps have problems such as low tracing accuracy and efficiency. The ray tracing method based on refractive index steps proposed in this paper can effectively solve this problem. This method uses the refractive index step to replace the spatial geometric step. The starting point and the end point of each ray tracing step are on the constant refractive-index surfaces. It avoids the problem that the traditional tracing method cannot adapt to the area of sudden change in the refractive index and the area where the refractive index changes sharply. Therefore, a suitable distance can be performed in the iterative process. It can achieve high-efficiency and precise ray tracing in areas whether the refractive index changes slowly or sharply. According to the comparison of calculation examples, this method can achieve a tracing accuracy of 10 − 5 mm. The speed and precision of ray tracing are better than traditional methods. The main disadvantage of windowless beam expansion systems is that they cannot achieve a good sealing effect. Turbulence and impurities in the environment can easily affect the imaging and primary mirror. Thus, in this study, a matrix of small holes was introduced for inflation to form a stable and smooth flow inside the system to avoid these disadvantages. In order to study the layout of the matrix, the flow state of the model was analysed, and the Lorentz–Lorenz formula and Barron gradient operator were used for ray tracing. Simulation results show that when the matrix of small holes is arranged in 16 rows with 360 holes in each row, inflation has a lesser effect on the wavefront aberration of the system. Moreover, the root mean square (RMS) of wavefront aberration was only 0.077 μm, which was superior to the other layouts considered. Experimental results show that the RMS was 0.08 μm in this state, which is consistent with the analysis. This indicates that this analysis method can meet actual work needs. Acquisition, tracking, and pointing (ATP) is a key technology in free space laser communication that has a characteristically high precision. In this paper, we report the acquisition and tracking of low-Earth-orbit satellites using shipborne ATP and verify the feasibility of establishing optical links between laser communication satellites and ships in the future. In particular, we developed a shipborne ATP system for satellite-to-sea applications in laser communications. We also designed an acquisition strategy for satellite-to-sea laser communication. In addition, a method was proposed for improving shipborne ATP pointing error. We tracked some stars at sea, achieving a pointing accuracy of less than 180μrad.We then acquired and tracked some low-Earth-orbit satellites at sea, achieving a tracking accuracy of about 20μrad. In this paper, we consider a two-sided vibro-impact energy harvester described as a forced cylindrical capsule inclined at a horizontal angle, and the motion of the ball inside the capsule follows from the impacts with the capsule ends and gravity. Two distinct cases of dynamical behavior are investigated: the nondissipative and dissipative cases, where the dissipation is given by a restitution coefficient of impacts. We show that the dynamics of the system are described by the use of a 2D implicit map written in terms of the variables' energy and time when the ball leaves the moving capsule ends. More precisely, in the nondissipative case, we analytically show that this map is area-preserving and the existence of invariant curves for some rotation number with Markoff constant type is proved according to Moser's twist theorem in high energy. The existence of invariant curves implies that the kinetic energy of the ball is always bounded, and hence, the structure of system is not destroyed by the impacts of the ball. Furthermore, by numerical analysis we also show that the dynamical behavior of this system is regular, mainly containing periodic points, invariant curves and Aubry–Mather sets. After introducing dissipation, the dissipation destroys the regular dynamical behavior of the nondissipative case, and a periodic point with low energy is generated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The properties of rocks can be greatly affected by seepage hydrocarbons in petroleum-related mud volcanoes. Among them, the color of sedimentary rocks can reflect the changes of sedimentary environment and weathering history. However, little is known about the microbial communities and their biogeochemical significance in these environments. In this study, contrasting rock samples were collected from the Aiqigou mud volcano on the southern margin of the Junggar Basin in Northwest China as guided by rock colors indicative of redox conditions. The physicochemical properties and mineral composition are similar under the same redox conditions. For example, the content of chlorite, muscovite, quartz, and total carbon were higher, and the total iron was lower under reduced conditions compared with oxidized environments. High-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons revealed that different functional microorganisms may exist under different redox conditions; microbes in oxidized conditions have higher diversity. Statistical analysis and incubation experiments indicated that the microbial community structure is closely related to the content of iron which may be an important factor for color stratification of continental sedimentary rocks in the Aiqigou mud volcano. The charge couple device (CCD) tracking loop of a fast steering mirror (FSM) is usually used to stabilize line of sight (LOS). High closed-loop bandwidth facilitates good performance. However, low-rate sample and time delay of the CCD greatly limit the high control bandwidth. This paper proposes an error-based observer (EBO) to improve the low-frequency performance of the CCD tracking system. The basic idea is by combining LOS error from the CCD and the controller output to produce the high-gain observer, forwarding into the originally closed-loop control system. This proposed EBO can improve the system both in target tracking and disturbance suppression due to LOS error from the CCD's sensing of the two signals. From a practical engineering view, the closed-loop stability and robustness of the EBO system are investigated on the condition of gain margin and phase margin of the open-loop transfer function. Two simulations of CCD experiments are provided to verify the benefits of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, an approach to improve the disturbance suppression performance of a fast steering mirror (FSM) tracking control system based on a charge-coupled device (CCD) and micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) inertial sensors is proposed. The disturbance observation and compensation (DOC) control method is recommended to enhance the classical multi-loop feedback control (MFC) for line-of-sight (LOS) stabilization in the FSM system. MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes have been used in the FSM system tentatively to implement MFC instead of fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG) because of its smaller, lighter, cheaper features and gradually improved performance. However, the stabilization performance of FSM is still suffering a large number of mechanical resonances and time delay induced by a low CCD sampling rate, which causes insufficient error attenuation when suffering uncertain disturbances. Thus, in order to make further improvements on the stabilization performance, a cascaded MFC enhanced by DOC method is proposed. The sensitivity of this method shows the significant improvement of the conventional MFC system. Simultaneously, the analysis of stabilization accuracy is also presented. A series of comparative experimental results demonstrate the disturbance suppression performance of the FSM control system based on the MEMS inertial sensors can be effectively improved by the proposed approach., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Lipopolysaccharides, major molecules in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, play important roles on membrane integrity of the cell. However, how the core oligosaccharide of lipopolysaccharide affect the membrane behavior is not well understood. In this study, the relationship between the core oligosaccharide of lipopolysaccharide and the membrane behavior was investigated using a series of Escherichia coli mutants defective in genes to affect the biosynthesis of core oligosaccharide of lipopolysaccharide. Cell surface hydrophobicity, outer membrane permeability, biofilm formation and auto-aggregation of these mutant cells were compared. Compared to the wild type W3110, cell surface hydrophobicities of mutant ΔwaaC, ΔwaaF, ΔwaaG, ΔwaaO, ΔwaaP, ΔwaaY and ΔwaaB were enhanced, outer membrane permeabilities of ΔwaaC, ΔwaaF, ΔwaaG and ΔwaaP were significantly increased, abilities of biofilm formation by ΔwaaC, ΔwaaF, ΔwaaG, ΔwaaO, ΔwaaR, ΔwaaP, ΔwaaQ and ΔwaaY decreased, and auto-aggregation abilities of ΔwaaC, ΔwaaF, ΔwaaG, ΔwaaO, ΔwaaR, ΔwaaU, ΔwaaP and ΔwaaY were strongly enhanced. These results give new insight into the influence of core oligosaccharide of lipopolysaccharide on bacterial cell membrane behavior.
