Recent advances in high-power applications employing voltage source converters have been primarily fuelled by the emergence of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) and its derivatives. Model predictive control (MPC) has emerged as an effective way of controlling these converters because of its high response. However, the practical implementation of MPC encounters hurdles, particularly in MMCs featuring many sub-modules per arm. This research introduces an approach termed folding model predictive control (FMPC), coupled with a pre-processing sorting algorithm, tailored for modular multilevel converters. The objective is to alleviate a significant part of the computational burden associated with the control of these converters. The FMPC framework combines multiple control objectives, encompassing AC current, DC current, circulating current, arm energy, and leg energy, within a unified cost function. Both simulation studies and real-time hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing are conducted to verify the efficacy of the proposed FMPC. The findings underscore the FMPC's ability to deliver fast response and robust performance under both steady-state and dynamic operating conditions. Moreover, the FMPC adeptly mitigates circulating currents, reduces total harmonic distortion (THD%), and upholds capacitor voltage stability within acceptable thresholds, even in the presence of harmonic distortions in the AC grid. The practical applicability of MMCs, notwithstanding the presence of a large number of sub-modules (SMs) per arm, is facilitated by the significant reduction in switching states and computational overhead achieved through the FMPC approach. In some applications of microgrids and distributed generation, it is necessary to feed islanded or stand-alone loads with high-quality voltage to provide low total harmonic distortion (THD). To fulfil these demands, an L C filter is usuallyconnected to the output terminals of power electronics converters. A cascaded voltage and current control loop with pulse-width modulation schemes are used to regulate the voltages and currents in these systems. However, these strategies have some drawbacks, particularly when multiple-input–multiple-output plants (MIMO) are controlled using single-input–single-output (SISO) design methods. This methodology usually produces a sluggish transient response and cross–coupling between different control loops and state variables. In this paper, a model predictive control (MPC) strategy based on the concept of optimal switching sequences (OSS) is designed to control voltage and current in an L C filter connected to a three-level neutral-point clamped converter. The strategy solves an optimisation problem to achieve control of the L C filter variables, i.e., currents and output voltages. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) results are obtained to validate the feasibility of the proposed strategy, using a PLECS–RT HIL platform and a dSPACE Microlab Box controller. In addition to the good dynamic performance of the proposed OSS–MPC, it is demonstrated using HIL results that the control algorithm is capable of obtaining low total harmonic distortion (THD) in the output voltage for different operating conditions. The Dual–Vector model predictive control (DV–MPC) method can improve the steady–state control performance of motor drives compared to using the single–vector method in one switching cycle. However, this performance enhancement generally increases the computational burden due to the exponential increase in the number of vector selections, lowering the system's dynamic response. Alternatively, limiting the vector combinations will sacrifice system steady–state performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an enhanced DV–MPC method that can determine the optimal vector combinations along with their duration time within minimized calculation times. Compared to the existing DV–MPC methods, the proposed enhanced technique can achieve excellent steady–state performance while maintaining a low computational burden. There is a global trend to reduce emissions from cars through the adoption of other alternatives, such as electric vehicles (EVs). The increasing popularity of EVs has led to a growing demand for electric vehicle chargers. EV chargers are essential for charging the batteries of EVs. Since the EV charger stays connected to the grid for long periods of time to charge the EV battery, it must be able to handle disturbances in the power grid. The goal of this paper is to present an overview of the impact of grid events on EV battery chargers. As well as the impact of grid unbalances on EV chargers, this paper also provides an overview of the impact of grid faults on other, similar power electronics interfaced resources such as PV and energy storage systems. Microgrids represent a promising energy technology, because of the inclusion in them of clean and smart energy technologies. They also represent research challenges, including controllability, stability, and implementation. This article presents a dSPACE-control-platform-based implementation of a fixed-switching-frequency modulated model predictive control (M 2 PC) strategy, as an inner controller of a two-level, three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) working in an islanded AC microgrid. The developed controller is hierarchical, as it includes a primary controller to share the load equally with the other power converter with its own local modulated predictive-based controller. All details of the implementation are given for establishing the dSPACE-based implementation of the control on a dSPACE ds1103 control platform, using MATLAB/Simulink for the controller design, I/O implementation and configuration with the embedded dSPACE's real-time interface in Simulink, and then using the ControlDesk software for monitoring and testing of the real plant. The latter consists of the VSI operating with  L C L  filters, and sharing an  R L  load with a paralleled VSI with exactly the same controller. Finally, the obtained experimental waveforms are shown, with our respective conclusions representing this work, which is a very valuable tool for helping microgrid researchers implement dSPACE-based real-time simulations. This paper compares two finite-control-set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategies in the context of a grid-connected single-phase quasi-Z source inverter (SP-qZSI). Both schemes use discrete-time models of the inductor current and capacitor voltage for the DC side, as well as the output current on the AC side. To enhance the converter's performance, given the non-minimum phase characteristics of the DC side, a long prediction horizon is implemented for the predictive control. However, a horizon of this nature can be highly demanding in terms of processing load, rendering it inapplicable for some microcontrollers. To address this issue and mitigate the processing load, an alternative control strategy is presented that divides the total number of candidate solutions to be evaluated into smaller segments. The performance of the two control strategies is compared using total harmonic distortion (THD) and simulation times as evaluation metrics. The results indicate that the proposed strategy achieves significantly shorter simulation times than the compared control strategy when increasing the prediction horizon. Additionally, a reduction in the THD was observed in the proposed strategy, reaching an average of 2.8%, which is lower than the compared strategy that exhibited THD close to 3.5%. Deciduous trees are well known for controlling solar gains in buildings, contributing to energy savings in a sector that consumes 35% of global energy. However, there is still a lack of information about the real thermal impact that deciduous trees have. This work proposes a new method that is cheap and easy to implement to quantify the shading efficiency of different types of deciduous trees in hot seasons. The results can be applied in energy evaluations of buildings. The trees selected belong to the central valley of Chile, which is characterized by hot summers and cold winters. The trees selected can also be found in other parts of the world. A spectrometer is used for measuring the amount of solar radiation (irradiance) that is present in the shadow of trees, measuring wavelengths between 339 nm and 750 nm (mostly within the visible light range). The full referential irradiance spectrum of the site is obtained by calibrating the standard ASTM G-173-03. At the site, the spectrometer is used to obtain the visible light range, while the infrared radiation (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) radiation ranges are obtained from the literature. Our results indicate that the analyzed deciduous trees reduce an average of 82% of the solar radiation. This information will help project designers during the building energy efficiency design phase by representative modeling of the solar radiation gains allowed by deciduous trees. Pulsed electrolysis has become a promising research topic in recent decades due to advances in solid-state semiconductor devices. These technologies have enabled the design and construction of simpler, more efficient, and less costly high-voltage and high-frequency power converters. In this paper, we study high-voltage pulsed electrolysis considering variations in both power converter parameters and cell configuration. Experimental results are obtained for frequency variations ranging from 10 Hz to 1 MHz, voltage changes from 2 V to 500 V, and electrode separations from 0.1 to 2 mm. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a communication alternative to increase the scalability and resilience of microgrid hierarchical control. The common architecture has a centralized and monolithic topology, where the controller is highly susceptible to latency problems, resiliency, and scalability issues. This paper proposes a novel and intelligent control network to improve the performance of microgrid communications, solving the typical drawback of monolithic SDN controllers. The SDN controller's functionalities are segregated into microservices groups and distributed through a bare-metal Kubernetes cluster. Results are presented from PLECS hardware in the loop simulation to validate the seamless transition between standard hierarchical control to the SDN networked microgrid. The microservices significantly impact the performance of the SDN controller, decreasing the latency by 10.76% compared with a monolithic architecture. Furthermore, the proposed approach demonstrates a 42.23% decrease in packet loss versus monolithic topologies and a 53.41% reduction in recovery time during failures. Combining Kubernetes with SDN microservices can eliminate the single point of failure in hierarchical control, improve application recovery time, and enhance containerization benefits, including security and portability. The effects of partial shading or dust accumulation on the panels of photovoltaic systems connected to the grid can generate a considerable reduction in energy performance, being necessary to provide the appropriate voltage to the grid regardless of the irradiance level. This paper addresses this problem and presents a comprehensive control strategy and its implementation for a grid-connected microinverter composed of a push–pull converter followed by an H-bridge inverter. In the push–pull converter, a hybrid MPPT algorithm and a PI control enable work in the MPP of the PV panel. In the H-bridge inverter, a cascade control consisting of a PI control and a predictive control allows the connection to the grid. A proof-of-concept prototype is implemented in order to validate the proposal. Experimental tests were performed by connecting the microinverter to a PV panel and a programmable photovoltaic panel emulator to check the MPPT performance. Furthermore, partial shading conditions were simulated on the dc source to check if the global maximum power point is reached. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the topology and the control approach, obtaining MPPT performance in the topology above 99% at different power and voltage levels on the MPPT, even in the presence of partial shading conditions. Finite Set Model Predictive Control (FS-MPC) is a widely used technique in power electronic converter applications. One challenge in FS-MPC implementation is selecting appropriate weighting factors, as there is currently no established methodology for finding the best values. An alternative approach is to consider cost functions without weighting factors, as used by the Sequential Model Predictive Control (SMPC). In this paper, the performance of SMPC applied to induction motors is analyzed. The SMPC strategy involves sequentially evaluating simple cost functions by considering a limited number of available switching states for the power electronic converter. This number is the control parameter of the SMPC. The parameter's domains and a selection criteria based on THD were established in this investigation. The power converter topologies studied include the Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) and the Neutral Point Clamped three-level (3L-NPC). Simulations performed in PLECS software and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) tests using an RT Box for valid parameters satisfy the characteristics of the classical predictive control, such as good control variables tracking and high dynamic response. For a VSI converter, increasing the control parameter results in reduced harmonic distortion, while for an NPC converter, optimal results are achieved with control parameter values within a specific range. In this paper, a fixed-switching-frequency modulated model predictive control (M 2 PC) is established for a two-level three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) working in an islanded AC microgrid. These small-scale power systems are composed by two or more VSIs which interface DGs, controlling the voltage amplitude and frequency in the system, and simultaneously sharing the load active and reactive power. Generally, these operational characteristics are achieved using hierarchical linear control loops, but with challenging limitations such as slow transient reaction to disturbances and high proneness to be affected by parameter modifications. Model predictive control may solve these issues. Nevertheless, the most used and developed predictive control scheme, the finite-set model predictive control (FS-MPC), presents the drawback of having the harmonic spectrum spread over all the frequencies. This brings issues with coupling between the different hierarchical control levels of the whole microgrid system, and eventually, when designing the filters for main-grid connection. This paper aims to solve these issues by developing the fixed-switching-frequency M 2 PC working with higher-level control loops for operation in an islanded AC microgrid. These advantages are proved in an AC microgrid configuration where methodology for paralleling multiple M 2 PC-regulated VSIs is described, with rapid transient response, inherent stability, and fully decentralised operation of individual VSIs, achieving proper load power sharing, eliminating circular currents, and proper waveforms for output currents and capacitor voltages. This article reviews the main methodologies employed for the optimal location, sizing, and operation of Distributed Generators (DGs) and Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) in electrical networks. For such purpose, we first analyzed the devices that comprise a microgrid (MG) in an environment with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and their modes of operation. Following that, we examined the planning and operation of each DER considered in this study (DGs and ESSs). Finally, we addressed the joint integration of DGs and ESSs into MGs. From this literature review, we were able to identify both the objective functions and constraints that are most commonly used to formulate the problem of the optimal integration and operation of DGs and ESSs in MGs. Moreover, this review allowed us to identify the methodologies that have been employed for such integration, as well as the current needs in the field. With this information, the purpose is to develop new mathematical formulations and approaches for the optimal integration and operation of DERs into MGs that provide financial and operational benefits. Power electronic devices play an important role in energy conversion. Among the options, matrix converters, in combination with predictive control, represent a good alternative for the power conversion stage. Although several reviews have been undertaken on this topic, they have been conducted in a non-systematic manner, without indicating how the studies considered were chosen. This paper presents results from a systematic literature review on predictive control applied to matrix converters that included 142 primary papers, which were selected after applying a defined protocol with clear inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study provides a detailed classification of predictive control methods and strategies applied to different matrix converter topologies. Research findings require to be understood in combination to develop a common understanding of the topic and ensure that future research effort is based on solid premises. In light of this, this study identifies and characterizes different predictive control techniques and matrix converter topologies through systematic literature review. The use of controlled power converters has been extended for high power applications, stacking off-the-shelve semiconductors, and allowing the implementation of, among others, AC drives for medium voltages of 2.3 kV to 13.8 kV. For AC drives based on power cells assembled with three-phase diode rectifiers and cascaded H-bridge inverters, a sophisticated input multipulse transformer is required to reduce the grid voltage, provide isolation among the power cells, and compensate for low-frequency current harmonics generated by the diode-based rectifiers. However, this input multipulse transformer is bulky, heavy, and expensive and must be designed according to the number of power cells, not allowing total modularity of the AC drives based on cascade H-bridges. This study proposes and evaluates a control strategy based on a finite control set-model predictive control that emulates the harmonic cancellation performed by an input multipulse transformer in a cascade H-bridge topology. Hence, the proposed method requires conventional input transformers and replaces the three-phase diode rectifiers. As a result, greater modularity than the conventional multicell converter and improved AC overall input current with a THD as low as 2% with a unitary displacement power factor are achieved. In this case, each power cell manages its own DC voltage using a nonlinear control strategy, ensuring stable system operation for passive and regenerative loads. A study of the fundamental of operation of a three-phase AC-DC power converter that uses Zero-Voltage Transition (ZVT) together with Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is presented. The converter is basically an active rectifier divided into two converters: a matrix converter and an H bridge, which transfer energy through a high-frequency transformer, resulting in a modular AC-DC wireless converter appropriate for Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs). The principle of operation of this converter considers high power quality, output regulation and low semiconductor power loss. The use of renewable energies sources is taking great importance due to the high demand for electricity and the decrease in the use of fossil fuels worldwide. In this context, electricity generation through photovoltaic panels is gaining a lot of interest due to the reduction in installation costs and the rapid advance of the development of new technologies. To minimize or reduce the negative impact of partial shading or mismatches of photovoltaic panels, many researchers have proposed four configurations that depend on the power ranges and the application. The microinverter is a promising solution in photovoltaic systems, due to its high efficiency of Maximum Power Point Tracking and high flexibility. However, there are several challenges to improve microinverter's reliability and conversion efficiency that depend on the proper control design and the power converter design. This paper presents a review of different control strategies in microinverters for different applications. The control strategies are described and compared based on stability, dynamic response, topologies, and control objectives. This paper deals with the design, control, and implementation of a three-phase ac–ac mobile utility power supply using a matrix converter for airplane servicing applications. Using a matrix converter as a compact direct ac-to-ac converter can provide savings in terms of the size and cost of a mobile power supply compared to common back-to-back converters. Furthermore, using the proposed direct matrix converter eliminates the need for bulky electrolytic capacitors and increases the system's reliability and lifetime. A finite control set model predictive control is used to generate a high-quality 115 V/400 Hz output voltage and a low-harmonic-distortion source current with a unity input power factor for various load conditions, including balanced, unbalanced, linear, and nonlinear loads. The predictive strategy is used to control the output voltage and source current for each possible switching state in order to simultaneously track the references. To achieve a further reduction in the system's size and cost, an active damping strategy is used to compensate for the instability caused by the input filter in contrast to the passive method. The operation of single-phase Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is analyzed in the paper. A mathematical model of the converter is developed and described, based on which the structure and selection of parameters for Classical Control and Optimal Switching State Model Predictive Control (OSS-MPC) are defined. Additionally, the procedure for the determination of circuit parameters, such as submodule capacitance and arm inductance, is described and carried out. The listed control methods are designed and evaluated in Virtual Hardware-in-the-Loop together with single-phase MMC power circuit, regarding three control objectives: AC current control, voltage balancing control and circulating current control. Control methods are evaluated for both steady-state and transient performance and compared based on nine criteria: AC current reference tracking, THD of AC current and voltage, submodule capacitor voltage balancing, total submodule voltage control, circulating current magnitude and THD, number of control parameters and computational complexity. This is the first time that a fair comparison between Classical Control and MPC is considered in literature, resulting in superior performance of both control methods regarding four different criteria and the same performance regarding AC current reference tracking. The high increase of renewable energy sources and the increment of distributed generation in the electrical grid has made them complex and of variable parameters, causing potential stability problems to the PI controllers. In this document, a control strategy for power injection to the electrical system from photovoltaic plants through a voltage source inverter two-level-type (VSI-2L) converter is proposed. The algorithm combines a current-based maximum power point-tracking (Current-Based MPPT) with model predictive control (MPC) strategy, allowing avoidance of the use of PI controllers and lowering of the dependence of high-capacitive value condensers. Multilevel inverter had been paid a lot of attention from the academia and research community in recent times due to its role in high and medium power applications. In this paper, a detailed survey is made on the recently designed multilevel inverter to find the suitability of the inverters for particular applications. Research is performed on various types of multilevel inverters such as: Symmetric, asymmetric, hybrid and modularized multilevel inverter in order to identify the issues in generating more levels at the output. A summary of various issues in multilevel inverter with reduced switch count is provided, so that a novel topology of multilevel inverter can be designed in future. Further, an 81-level switched ladder multilevel inverter using unidirectional and bidirectional switches is designed. Simulation work is carried out using Matlab/Simulink in order to validate the performance of the inverter with change in resistive load and impedance load. The output of the 81-level inverter is fed to a 110 V, 186.5 W single phase induction motor in order to study the characteristics, further speed control of motor is performed by varying the input voltage of the motor and the results are presented. In this paper, a 'k'-state inverter producing a higher number of voltage levels was designed, and we studied the inverter's working. Further, a tri-state inverter was derived from the 'k'-state inverter, which could build a maximum number of output voltage levels with the requirement of fewer components, thereby reducing the cost and size. A single Tri-state architecture generates three direct current (D.C.) voltage levels; therefore, cascading five tri-state architectures can generate 242 levels of DC voltages. Further, the inversion is done via the H bridge, which leads to 485 levels of the output voltage. Algorithms to design the amplitude of voltage sources and the generation of pulses are discussed in this paper. The proposed tri-state inverter takes a significant role in advancing renewable energy systems in utilizing inverter technology. A simulation study validated the operation of the proposed inverter. In this paper, identification of sensitive variables is attempted for second-order (flat/partially flat) and fourth-order partially flat converters with dynamic loads. The sensitivity nature of each state variable to the output speed variable of the DC motor for the above-mentioned systems was analyzed via the frequency domain technique. Further, in continuation of this, we aimed to confirm that the variables that are used in the control law exact tracking error dynamics, passive output feedback control (ETEDPOF) are sensitive. To verify the sensitivity property, an experimental case study was done using ETEDPOF and compared with the proportional-integral controller (PIC) for a flat system, and the results are presented. In this paper, passivity-based control (PBC) of a Luo converter-fed DC motor is implemented and presented. In PBC, both exact tracking error dynamics passive output feedback control (ETEDPOF) and energy shaping and damping injection methods do not require a speed sensor. As ETEDPOF does not depend upon state computation, it is preferred in the proposed work for the speed control of a DC motor under no-load and loaded conditions. Under loaded conditions, the online algebraic approach in sensorless mode (SAA) is used for estimating different load torques applied on the DC motor such as: constant, frictional, fan-type, propeller-type and unknown load torques. Performance of SAA is tested with the reduced order observer in sensorless mode (SROO) approach and analyzed, and the results are presented to validate the low-cost implementation of PBC for a DC drive without a speed and torque sensor. This paper presents a detailed study on technical points of design, control, stability analysis, and hardware development of a direct matrix converter with power flow control for microgrid applications. The converter is used as an interface between a microgrid AC bus and a variable-frequency load, e.g., an induction machine. The main steps of the converter design include the design of input filter, stabilization, commutation, and protection techniques. Practical guidelines are provided for the direct conversion and transmission of modulation and control procedures to the logic processing devices. Through a detailed study of stabilization technique using damping resistors, the stability region of the converter is determined by using the linearized state-space equations. Microgrids need control and management at different levels to allow the inclusion of renewable energy sources. In this paper, a comprehensive literature review is presented to analyse the latest trends in research and development referring to the applications of predictive control in microgrids. As a result of this review, it was found that the application of predictive control techniques on microgrids is performed for the three control levels and with adaptations of the models in order to include uncertainties to improve their performance and dynamics response. In addition, to ensure system stability, but also, at higher control levels, coordinated operation among the microgrid's components and synchronised and optimised operation with utility grids and electric power markets. Distributed generation systems are emerging as a good solution as part of the response to the world's growing energy demand. In this context multi-phase wind generation systems are a feasible option. These systems consist of renewable AC sources which requires efficient and controlled power conversion stages. This work proposes a novel predictive current control strategy that takes advantage of a multi-modular matrix converter topology in the power stage of a six-phase generation system. The proposed method uses a coupling signal between the modules to decrease the error and the total harmonic distortion compared to independent control of each module. This paper introduces an approach that applies a digital sampling technique for a sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) multilevel inverter modulation that reduces the total harmonic contents in the output voltage compared to that of classical regular sampling techniques. This new modulation emulates with a high degree of fidelity a natural sampling pulse width modulation (PWM). The theoretical analysis of this new digital technique compared with natural sampling has been validated by simulations and through experiments with a built prototype that performed five–level inverter modulations with vertically displaced carriers in phase disposition. Both simulation and experimental results generate a SPWM output voltage with higher fidelity than classic regular sampling techniques, allowing a reduction of the filtering demands on the inverter output, which in turn can decrease the converter size and its manufacturing costs. As the presented technique is digital, the resulting modulation is more robust against switching noise, jitter, and other system perturbations and the modulation parameters can be changed easily, even in an automated way. In applications such as multiphase motor drives, classical predictive control strategies are characterized by a variable switching frequency which adds high harmonic content and ripple in the stator currents. This paper proposes a model predictive current control adding a modulation stage based on a switching pattern with the aim of generating a fixed switching frequency. Hence, the proposed controller takes into account the prediction of the two adjacent active vectors and null vector in the (α - β) frame defined by space vector modulation in order to reduce the (x-y) currents according to a defined cost function at each sampling period. Both simulation and experimental tests for a six-phase induction motor drive are provided and compared to the classical predictive control to validate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy. Pulse width modulation (PWM) strategies for the control of asymmetrical six-phase drives have been widely studied since the beginning of this century. Nevertheless, space vector modulation (SVM) techniques with multifrequency voltage injection for the control of all the degrees of freedom of the multiphase model is still a subject under research. This paper deals with this topic and introduces a generalised PWM method for a two-level voltage source converters. The architecture was derived by extending a three-phase modulator proposed as an alternative to the widely studied SVM. The proposal computes the duty times straightforwardly with a fast algorithm based on an analytical solution of the voltage-time modulation law. Theoretical derivations supported by experimental results demonstrate the proper synthesis of the multifrequency target voltage in the linear modulation region as well as good frequency behaviour of the presented modulation strategy. The use of advanced modulation and control schemes for power converters, such as a Feedback Quantizer and Predictive Control, is widely studied in the literature. This work focuses on improving the closed-loop modulation scheme called Feedback Quantizer, which is applied to a three-phase voltage source inverter. This scheme has the natural behavior of mitigating harmonics at low frequencies, which are detrimental to electrical equipment such as transformers. This modulation scheme also provides good tracking for the voltage reference at the fundamental frequency. On the other hand, the disadvantage of this scheme is that it has a variable switching frequency, creating a harmonic spectrum in frequency dispersion, and it also needs a small sampling time to obtain good results. The proposed scheme to improve the modulation scheme is based on a Discrete Space Vector with virtual vectors to obtain a better approximation of the optimal vectors for use in the algorithm. The proposal improves the conventional scheme at a high sampling time (200 μs), obtaining a THD less than 2% in the load current, decreases the noise created by the conventional scheme, and provides a fixed switching frequency. Experimental tests demonstrate the correct operation of the proposed scheme.

The Scholander-type pressure chamber to measure midday stem water potential (MSWP) has been widely used to schedule irrigation in commercial vineyards. However, the limited number of sites that can be evaluated using the pressure chamber makes it difficult to evaluate the spatial variability of vineyard water status. As an alternative, several authors have suggested using the crop water stress index (CWSI) based on low-cost thermal infrared (TIR) sensors to estimate the MSWP. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a low-cost wireless infrared sensor network (WISN) to monitor the spatial variability of MSWPs in a drip-irrigated Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard under two levels of water stress. For this study, the MLX90614 sensor was used to measure canopy temperature (Tc), and thus compute the CWSI. The results indicated that good performance of the MLX90614 infrared thermometers was observed under laboratory and vineyard conditions with root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) values being less than 1.0 °C. Finally, a good nonlinear correlation between the MSWP and CWSI (R 2 = 0.72) was observed, allowing the development of intra-vineyard spatial variability maps of MSWP using the low-cost wireless infrared sensor network.
