The independent detection and classification of brain malignancies using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can present challenges and the potential for error due to the intricate nature and time-consuming process involved. The complexity of the brain tumor identification process primarily stems from the need for a comprehensive evaluation spanning multiple modules. The advancement of deep learning (DL) has facilitated the emergence of automated medical image processing and diagnostics solutions, thereby offering a potential resolution to this issue. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) represent a prominent methodology in visual learning and image categorization. The present study introduces a novel methodology integrating image enhancement techniques, specifically, Gaussian-blur-based sharpening and Adaptive Histogram Equalization using CLAHE, with the proposed model. This approach aims to effectively classify different categories of brain tumors, including glioma, meningioma, and pituitary tumor, as well as cases without tumors. The algorithm underwent comprehensive testing using benchmarked data from the published literature, and the results were compared with pre-trained models, including VGG16, ResNet50, VGG19, InceptionV3, and MobileNetV2. The experimental findings of the proposed method demonstrated a noteworthy classification accuracy of 97.84%, a precision success rate of 97.85%, a recall rate of 97.85%, and an F1-score of 97.90%. The results presented in this study showcase the exceptional accuracy of the proposed methodology in accurately classifying the most commonly occurring brain tumor types. The technique exhibited commendable generalization properties, rendering it a valuable asset in medicine for aiding physicians in making precise and proficient brain diagnoses. Technological infrastructure plays a critical role in a country's development and progress, enabling economic growth, innovation, and improving citizens' quality of life. This study explores the potential of digital entrepreneurship and digital transformation in reducing unemployment in Oman. With the increasing reliance on digital technologies, governments need to invest in technological infrastructure that can meet the evolving needs of society. This study investigates the potential of digital entrepreneurship and digital transformation in reducing unemployment in Oman. This study highlights the importance of technological infrastructure in enabling economic growth and improving citizens' quality of life. The findings indicate that digital entrepreneurship offers equal opportunities for both genders, potentially empowering women in entrepreneurship and addressing unemployment challenges. Additionally, the study shows a positive relationship between age and digital entrepreneurship aspirations. To foster entrepreneurship, the study suggests empowering young job seekers with digital knowledge and enabling graduates to create new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. The study found significant effects of "Unemployment in the Sultanate of Oman (reasons and solutions)" on occupation, as indicated by a between-group sum of squares of 8.773, two degrees of freedom, and a mean square of 4.387, with an F value of 11.274, and a significance level of 0.000. On the other hand, the "Digital Entrepreneurship Sector" significantly affected occupation, with a between-groups sum of squares of 4.394, two degrees of freedom, and a mean square of 2.197, and an F value of 10.267 with a significance level of 0.000. Similarly, for the "Entrepreneurship Digital Infrastructure" variable, there was no significant difference between male and female mean scores (t = −1.516, df = 206, p = 0.131). Overall, the results indicate that the digital entrepreneurship sector significantly impacts occupation, while the entrepreneurship digital infrastructure has no significant effect. Hybrid beamforming is a viable method for lowering the complexity and expense of massive multiple-input multiple-output systems while achieving high data rates on track with digital beamforming. To this end, the purpose of the research reported in this paper is to assess the effectiveness of the three architectural beamforming techniques (Analog, Digital, and Hybrid beamforming) in massive multiple-input multiple-output systems, especially hybrid beamforming. In hybrid beamforming, the antennas are connected to a single radio frequency chain, unlike digital beamforming, where each antenna has a separate radio frequency chain. The beam formation toward a particular angle depends on the channel state information. Further, massive multiple-input multiple-output is discussed in detail along with the performance parameters like bit error rate, signal-to-noise ratio, achievable sum rate, power consumption in massive multiple-input multiple-output, and energy efficiency. The extensive use of chemical fertilizers is responsible for numerous environmental problems including low food quality, soil degradation, and toxicity to beneficial living organisms in the soil. Nano-fertilizers (NFs) application may be a promising solution for combat these challenges. The current study focused on the efficiency of applying small amounts of NFs incorporated with conventional nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizers to reduce the quantities of conventional fertilizers (CFs) in lettuce cultivated in sandy soil. This study evaluated the effect of these incorporations on plant growth, yield, phytochemical accumulation, leaf nutrient, and leaf nitrate. A pot experiment was conducted during the winter seasons of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 using the following treatments: CF100: 100% CFs, CF75NF25: 75% CFs + 25% NFs, CF50NF50: 50% CFs + 50% NFs, CF25NF75: 25% CFs + 75% NFs, and NF100: 100% NFs (=10% of CFs). Our findings displayed that the CF75NF25 and CF50NF50 treatments recorded the highest plant growth parameter values (plant length, root length, number of leaves, and fresh and dry biomass). The maximum of chlorophyll fluorescence measurements (photosystem II efficiency) were obtained in plants fertilized with CF75NF25, followed by CF50NF50 and CF100. The improvement ratios of photosynthetic pigments (Chlorophyll (Chl) a, b, and total) for CF75NF25 were 23.77, 50, and 23.72% in the first season and 10.10, 51.0, and 24.90% in the second season for Chl a, b, and total, respectively, as compared with the CF100 treatment. A similar tendency was observed for the CF50NF50 treatment. Generally, CF75NF25 significantly raised the content of total phenolic compounds (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity (AOA) in lettuce plants by 36.09, 47.82, and 40.16% in the first season and by 30.39, 37.53, and 32.43% in the second season, respectively, compared with CF100. In addition, the levels of leaf nutrient content and uptake of N, P, and K were significantly higher in plants fertilized with CF75NF25 compared to the other treatments, whereas CF25NF75 had the lowest values among the different treatments across both seasons for most of the tested traits. The nitrate content in lettuce leaves (NO3−) for both seasons was lower than the acceptable level for human consumption. These results indicate that incorporating a low concentration of NFs into CFs could be a promising strategy to reduce the amount of CFs to 75% or 50% of lettuce NPK requirements without significant adverse effects on the growth and productivity of lettuce plants cultivated in sandy soil. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) cities' historic centers have a unique urban fabric regarding land use, physical characteristics, and environmental performance. Several cities within this region are subject to significant development projects based on demolition and replacement. These projects aim to improve the quality of life and enhance the city's socioeconomic and sustainability. This paper investigates the physical characteristics of the urban interface between the historical centers and the rest of the cities' urban expansions to ensure a smooth transition between the historic urban fabric and the rest of the city's urban fabric. The research objective was fulfilled by developing a framework to classify urban fabric types based on their physical characteristics. Jeddah city was selected as a case study. Six growth phases of the city were identified. Based on this classification, urban fabric samples representing these phases were selected. These urban samples' physical characteristics were analyzed. Results identified in urban fabric characteristics between the historic center and the other identified urban fabrics within the city, especially the demolished deteriorated surrounding urban areas. Urban features for under-development urban areas were concluded. Design guidelines were suggested for historical centers to achieve homogeneous integrated, sustainable, livable urban areas. Tadalafil (TAD) is a poorly soluble, phosphodiesterase inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction. The primary goal of this project was to prepare nano-emulsions using ultrasonic technology to address TAD bioavailability concerns. The Box–Behnken design was employed to find prominent correlations between factors impacting the sono-emulsification process. The emulsifier concentration, amplitude level, and ultrasonication time were the independent factors, whereas the average droplet size (ADS) and polydispersity index (PDI) were designated as the response variables. TAD-loaded nano-emulsions (93–289 nm) were generated and the emulsifier concentration showed a crucial role in directing emulsion droplet size. The model desirability function was utilized to optimize a nano-emulsion with a small ADS (99.67 ± 7.55 nm) and PDI (0.45 ± 0.04) by adjusting the emulsifiers concentration, amplitude level, and ultrasonication time at 9.85%, 33%, 49 s, respectively. The optimized nano-emulsions did not demonstrate any precipitation or phase separation after stability stress tests. TAD jellies were formulated based on the optimized nano-emulsion and subjected to in vitro evaluation for physical characteristics; TAD content, pH, spreadability, viscosity, syneresis, and taste-masking ability. An optimized nano-emulsion-based jelly (NEJ) formulation showed more than 96% drug dissolution in 30 min relative to 14% for the unprocessed TAD. In vivo assessment of NEJ in experimental rats demonstrated a significant enhancement (p < 0.05) of TAD bioavailability with an AUC0–24h of 2045 ± 70.2 vs. 259.9 ± 17.7 ng·h·mL−1 for the unprocessed TAD. Storage stability results revealed that NEJ remained stable with unremarkable changes in properties for 3 months. Alpha-mangostin (α-MN) is a xanthone obtained from Garcinia mangostana that has diverse anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory potentials. However, its pharmacological activity against autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) has not been investigated before. Concanavalin A (Con A) was injected into mice to induce AIH and two doses of α-MN were tested for their protective effects against Con A-induced AIH. The results demonstrated the potent hepatoprotective activity of α-MN evidenced by a remarkable decrease of serum indices of the hepatic injury and amendment of the histological lesions. α-MN significantly attenuated the level and immuno-expression of myeloperoxidase (MPO) indicating a decrease in the neutrophil infiltration into the liver. Additionally, the recruitment of the CD4+ T cell was suppressed in the α-MN pre-treated animals. α-MN showed a potent ability to repress the Con A-induced oxidative stress evident by the reduced levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE), and protein carbonyl (PC), as well as the enhanced levels of antioxidants as the reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). The ELISA, RT-PCR, and IHC analyses revealed that α-MN enhanced the sirtuin1/nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor-2 (SIRT1/Nrf2) signaling and its downstream cascade genes concurrently with the inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and the inflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukine-6) signaling. Taken together, these results inferred that the hepatoprotective activity of α-MN could prevent Con A-induced AIH through the modulation of the SIRT1/Nrf2/NF-κB signaling. This research aimed to develop innovative self-nanoemulsifying chewable tablets (SNECT) to increase oral bioavailability of tadalafil (TDL), a nearly insoluble phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor. Cinnamon essential oil, PEG 40 hydrogenated castor oil (Cremophor® RH 40), and polyethylene glycol 400 served as the oil, surfactant, and cosurfactant in the nanoemulsifying system, respectively. Primary liquid self-nanoemulsifying delivery systems (L-SNEDDS) were designed using phase diagrams and tested for dispersibility, droplet size, self-emulsifying capability, and thermodynamic stability. Adsorption on a carrier mix of silicon dioxide and microcrystalline cellulose was exploited to solidify the optimum L-SNEDDS formulation as self-nanoemulsifying granules (SNEG). Lack of crystalline TDL within the granules was verified by DSC and XRPD. SNEG were able to create a nanoemulsion instantaneously (165 nm), a little larger than the original nanoemulsion (159 nm). SNECT were fabricated by compressing SNEG with appropriate excipients. The obtained SNECT retained their quick dispersibility dissolving 84% of TDL within 30 min compared to only 18% dissolution from tablets of unprocessed TDL. A pharmacokinetic study in Sprague–Dawley rats showed a significant increase in Cmax (2.3-fold) and AUC0–24 h (5.33-fold) of SNECT relative to the unprocessed TDL-tablet (p < 0.05). The stability of TDL-SNECT was checked against dilutions with simulated GI fluids. In addition, accelerated stability tests were performed for three months at 40 ± 2 °C and 75% relative humidity. Results revealed the absence of obvious changes in size, PDI, or other tablet parameters before and after testing. Artificial intelligence has been utilized extensively in the healthcare sector for the last few decades to simplify medical procedures, such as diagnosis, prognosis, drug discovery, and many more. With the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, more methods for detecting and treating COVID-19 infections have been developed. Several projects involving considerable artificial intelligence use have been researched and put into practice. Crowdsensing is an example of an application in which artificial intelligence is employed to detect the presence of a virus in an individual based on their physiological parameters. A solution is proposed to detect the potential COVID-19 carrier in crowded premises of a closed campus area, for example, hospitals, corridors, company premises, and so on. Sensor-based wearable devices are utilized to obtain measurements of various physiological indicators (or parameters) of an individual. A machine-learning-based model is proposed for COVID-19 prediction with these parameters as input. The wearable device dataset was used to train four different machine learning algorithms. The support vector machine, which performed the best, received an F1-score of 96.64% and an accuracy score of 96.57%. Moreover, the wearable device is used to retrieve the coordinates of a potential COVID-19 carrier, and the YOLOv5 object detection method is used to do real-time visual tracking on a closed-circuit television video feed. A commonly cited reason for the high abandonment rate of myoelectric prostheses is a lack of grip force sensory feedback. Researchers have attempted to restore grip force sensory feedback by stimulating the residual limb's skin surface in response to the prosthetic hand's measured grip force. Recent work has focused on restoring natural feedback to the missing digits directly through invasive surgical procedures. However, the functional benefit of utilizing somatotopically matching feedback has not been evaluated. In this paper, we propose an experimental protocol centered on a fragile object grasp and lift task using a sensorized myoelectric prosthesis to evaluate sensory feedback techniques. We formalized a suite of outcome measures related to task success, timing, and strategy. A pilot study (n = 3) evaluating the effect of utilizing a somatotopically accurate feedback stimulation location in able-bodied participants was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the standardized platform, and to inform future studies on the role of feedback stimulation location in prosthesis use. Large between-participant effect sizes were observed in all outcome measures, indicating that the feedback location likely plays a role in myoelectric prosthesis performance. The success rate decreased, and task timing and task focus metrics increased, when using somatotopically-matched feedback compared to non-somatotopically-matched feedback. Featured Application: The (k-ω) turbulence model showed good results in capturing the flow structure at the wake zone downstream of the pier, with continuous oscillation matching the pier downstream turbulence pattern. Personal computer computational and storage resources were sufficient to run the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for the case in hand with the selected turbulence model. The required computational resources are cheap and affordable compared to those required for the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Detached Eddy Simulation (DES). This will lead to significant savings in time and resources in future CFD modeling for similar cases. In the current study, a three-dimensional CFD model is utilized to investigate the variation of the flow structure and bed shear stress at a single cylindrical pier during scour development. The scour development is presented by seven solidified geometries of the scour hole, collected during previous experimental work at different scour stages. Different turbulence models are evaluated and the (k-ω) model is chosen due to its relative accuracy in capturing the flow oscillation and vortex shedding at the pier downstream side with personal computer computational and storage resources. The numerical results are verified against dimensionless parameters from different previous experimental works. This research describes in detail the flow structure and bed shear stress variations through seven stages of the scour hole development. The dimensionless area-averaged circulation coefficient (Ψi) is developed to evaluate the changes in the vortex strength through the scouring process by eliminating the calculation area effect. It was concluded that the circulation in the (Y) direction is the main driving factor in the development of the scour hole more than the circulation in the (X) direction. The ratio between the horseshoe vortex (HV) mean size and the scouring depth (DV/dS) in addition to the location of the maximum bed shear stress are investigated during different stages of the scour development. Traditional conservation efforts did not improve the conditions in most historic urban centers of Arab cities. The internationally adopted shift in historic urban conservation grants better urban vitality and sustainability for these areas. This study investigates the existing trends and forthcoming changes in urban conservation and their implication on historical centers. Urban Heritage Conservation UHC trends were reviewed, conservation parameters were defined, and quality aspects of successful historic urban conservation were identified, and an assessment framework was developed to evaluate the resulting conserved urban heritage. Two case studies of Arab cities, Jeddah and Aman, were analyzed. The findings highlight the most common urban issues such as reusing historic buildings, traffic congestion, and lack of funds. The impact of urban management on historic areas' quality was revealed. Moreover, the paper ends with recommendations for conservation authorities. These include engaging residents in the conservation efforts, adopting more innovative traffic solutions to ease congestions, turning the historic area into a pedestrian-friendly space, attracting visitors through arranging cultural events, creating new job opportunities through heritage, and improving the image of the areas through urban regulations. Advances in lower-limb prosthetic technologies have facilitated the restoration of ambulation; however, users of such technologies still experience reduced balance control, also due to the absence of proprioceptive feedback. Recent efforts have demonstrated the ability to restore kinesthetic feedback in upper-limb prosthesis applications; however, technical solutions to trigger the required muscle vibration and provide automated feedback have not been explored for lower-limb prostheses. The study's first objective was therefore to develop a feedback system capable of tracking lower-limb movement and automatically triggering a muscle vibrator to induce the kinesthetic illusion. The second objective was to investigate the developed system's ability to provide kinesthetic feedback in a case participant. A low-cost, wireless feedback system, incorporating two inertial measurement units to trigger a muscle vibrator, was developed and tested in an individual with limb loss above the knee. Our system had a maximum communication delay of 50 ms and showed good tracking of Gaussian and sinusoidal movement profiles for velocities below 180 degrees per second (error < 8 degrees), mimicking stepping and walking, respectively. We demonstrated in the case participant that the developed feedback system can successfully elicit the kinesthetic illusion. Despite the introduction of directly acting antivirals (DAAs), for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, their cost, patient compliance, and viral resistance are still important issues to be considered. Here, we describe the generation of a novel JFH1-based HCV subgenomic replicon double reporter cell line suitable for testing different antiviral drugs and therapeutic interventions. This cells line allowed a rapid and accurate quantification of cell growth/viability and HCV RNA replication, thus discriminating specific from unspecific antiviral effects caused by DAAs or cytotoxic compounds, respectively. By correlating cell number and virus replication, we could confirm the inhibitory effect on the latter of cell over confluency and characterize an array of lentiviral vectors expressing single, double, or triple cassettes containing different combinations of short hairpin (sh)RNAs, targeting both highly conserved viral genome sequences and cellular factors crucial for HCV replication. While all vectors were effective in reducing HCV replication, the ones targeting viral sequences displayed a stronger antiviral effect, without significant cytopathic effects. Such combinatorial platforms as well as the developed double reporter cell line might find application both in setting-up anti-HCV gene therapy approaches and in studies aimed at further dissecting the viral biology/pathogenesis of infection.
