In this study, we successfully fabricated Fe61Zr10Co5Mo7W2B15 and Ni61Nb19.2Ta19.8 amorphous fibers (AFs) using the melt-extraction method. This method ensured a rapid cooling, uniform quality, minimal defects, and superior performance. Magnetic property analysis revealed that the Fe-based AFs exhibited a single-slope magnetization curve characteristic of paramagnetic or diamagnetic materials, while the Ni-based AFs displayed a rectangular curve with low magnetic hysteresis, typical of ferromagnetic materials. The axial saturation magnetization of as-prepared Ni-based AFs is ~1.5 × 10−7 emu/g, with a coercivity of about 85 Oe. The statistical analysis of tensile tests indicated that Ni-based AFs possess a higher fracture threshold of 2440 ± 199 MPa and a reliability of 14.7, demonstrating greater material safety and suitability for high-performance applications. As opposed to Ni-based AFs, Fe-based AFs present a fracture threshold and of 1582 ± 692 MPa and a reliability 4.2. Moreover, under cyclic loading conditions, Ni-based AFs exhibited less residual deformation and superior elastic recovery with a fracture strength of 2800 MPa. These findings highlight the potential of Ni-based AFs for advanced engineering applications, particularly where high strength, durability, and excellent magnetic properties are required, paving the way for their integration into next-generation technologies. Cell co-culture technology aims to study the communication mechanism between cells and to better reveal the interactions and regulatory mechanisms involved in processes such as cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, and other cellular activities. This is achieved by simulating the complex organismic environment. Such studies are of great significance for understanding the physiological and pathological processes of multicellular organisms. As an emerging cell cultivation technology, 3D cell co-culture technology, based on microfluidic chips, can efficiently, rapidly, and accurately achieve cell co-culture. This is accomplished by leveraging the unique microchannel structures and flow characteristics of microfluidic chips. The technology can simulate the native microenvironment of cell growth, providing a new technical platform for studying intercellular communication. It has been widely used in the research of oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and other fields. In this review, we summarize and provide insights into the design of cell co-culture systems on microfluidic chips, the detection methods employed in co-culture systems, and the applications of these models. Recently, iron-based sulfides, including iron sulfide minerals and biological iron sulfide clusters, have attracted widespread interest, owing to their excellent biocompatibility and multi-functionality in biomedical applications. As such, controlled synthesized iron sulfide nanomaterials with elaborate designs, enhanced functionality and unique electronic structures show numerous advantages. Furthermore, iron sulfide clusters produced through biological metabolism are thought to possess magnetic properties and play a crucial role in balancing the concentration of iron in cells, thereby affecting ferroptosis processes. The electrons in the Fenton reaction constantly transfer between Fe2+ and Fe3+, participating in the production and reaction process of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This mechanism is considered to confer advantages in various biomedical fields such as the antibacterial field, tumor treatment, biosensing and the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are widely used in bone tissue engineering because of their unique physical and chemical properties and their excellent biocompatibility. Under the action of a magnetic field, SPIONs loaded in a biological scaffold can effectively promote osteoblast proliferation, differentiation, angiogenesis, and so on. SPIONs have very broad application prospects in bone repair, bone reconstruction, bone regeneration, and other fields. In this paper, several methods for forming biological scaffolds via the biological assembly of SPIONs are reviewed, and the specific applications of these biological scaffolds in bone tissue engineering are discussed. Although some progress has been made in the treatment of cancer, challenges remain. In recent years, advancements in nanotechnology and stem cell therapy have provided new approaches for use in regenerative medicine and cancer treatment. Among them, magnetic nanomaterials have attracted widespread attention in the field of regenerative medicine and cancer; this is because they have high levels of safety and low levels of invasibility, promote stem cell differentiation, and affect biological nerve signals. In contrast to pure magnetic stimulation, magnetic nanomaterials can act as amplifiers of an applied electromagnetic field in vivo, and by generating different effects (thermal, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, etc.), the corresponding ion channels are activated, thus enabling the modulation of neuronal activity with higher levels of precision and local modulation. In this review, first, we focused on the relationship between biological nerve signals and stem cell differentiation, and tumor development. In addition, the effects of magnetic nanomaterials on biological neural signals and the tumor environment were discussed. High-precision rotor position information is usually needed in permanent-magnet synchronous motors, which are critical to high-performance motor control based on vector algorithm. Therefore, inductosyn is the best choice for the permanent-magnet synchronous motor position sensor. Capacitive potential is an important component of the ineffective potential in the inductosyn angle measuring system. When the effective potential of the inductosyn approaches zero, the proportion of capacitive potential in the output potential will be greatly amplified. As a result, the zero-position accuracy will be seriously affected. Error potential and effective potential always exist at the same time, so it is difficult to measure and study quantitatively. In this paper, the capacitance network model of inductosyn was established and the analytical calculation method was proposed. The factors affecting the capacitive potential and the suppression strategy were studied through the combination of theoretical analysis and the finite element method. In addition, the error separation method of capacitive potential was also proposed in this paper, which realized the accurate measurement of this part of error. The preparation of Ni-Mn-Ga and Ni-Mn-Ga-Fe master alloy ingots and microwires was completed by high vacuum electric furnace melt melting furnace and melt drawing liquid forming equipment, and the lattice dislocations and defects formed inside the microwires during the preparation process were corrected by stepwise ordered heat treatment. The micro-structure and phase structure were characterized using a SEM field emission scanning electron microscopy and an XRD diffractometer combined with an EDS energy spectrum analyzer; the martensitic phase transformation process of the microwires was analyzed using a DSC differential scanning calorimeter; and the superelasticity of the microwires was tested by a Q800 dynamic mechanical analyzer. The results indicate that Fe doping can refine the grain, transform the phase structure from parent phase to single 7M martensite, reduce the number of martensitic variants, and increase the mobility of the twin grain boundary interface. The MT phase transition temperature (MS) is substantially increased in the martensite transition (MT) process by the increase of the number of free electrons in its lattice. During the superelasticity (SE) test, both microwires displayed superior recover-ability of SE curves, and the Fe doping curves showed similar characteristics of "linear superelasticity", showing higher critical stress values and complete SE in the experiment. The critical stress satisfies the Clausius-Clapeyron equation and exhibits higher temperature sensitivity than Ni-Mn-Ga microwires. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The highly regarded Fe2P-based magnetocaloric materials are usually fabricated by ball milling, and require an additional extended annealing treatment at high temperatures (at temperatures up to 1423 K for several hours to days). In this work, we show that fabricating Mn1.3Fe0.6P0.5Si0.5 into the form of microwires attained 82.1 wt.% of the desired Fe2P phase in the as-cast state. The microwires show a variable solidification structure along the radial direction; close to the copper wheel contact, Fe2P phase is in fine grains, followed by dendritic Fe2P grains and finally secondary (Mn,Fe)5Si3 phase in addition to the dendritic Fe2P grains. The as-cast microwires undergo a ferro- to para-magnetic transition with a Curie temperature of 138 K, showing a maximum isothermal magnetic entropy change of 4.6 J kg−1 K−1 for a magnetic field change of 5 T. With further annealing, a two-fold increase in the maximum isothermal magnetic entropy change is found in the annealed microwires, which reveal 88.1 wt.% of Fe2P phase. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The desirable table-like magnetocaloric effect (MCE) was obtained by designing a new magnetic bed, which comprises three kinds of Gd-based microwire arrays with different Curie temperatures (TC). The TC interval among these wires is ~10 K. This new magnetic bed shows a smooth ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition at ~100 K. In addition, a table-like magnetic entropy change (ΔSM) was obtained, ranging from ~92 K to ~107 K, with a maximum entropy change (−ΔSMmax) of 9.42 J/kgK for a field change (μ0ΔH) of 5 T. Notably, the calculated results of −ΔSM(T) corresponded to the experimental data for μ0ΔH = 5 T, suggesting that a microwire array-based magnetic bed with desirable magnetocaloric response can be designed. In addition, it was shown that a larger table-like temperature range and cooling efficiency can be achieved by increasing the interval of TC among microwire arrays. Leukemia is a non-solid cancer which features the malignant proliferation of leukocytes. Excessive leukocytes of lesions in peripheral blood will infiltrate organs, resulting in intumescence and weakening treatment efficiency. In this study, we proposed a novel approach for targeted clearance of the leukocytes in the peripheral blood ex vivo, which employed magnetic nanochains to selectively destroy the leukocytes of the lesions. The nanochains were doxorubicin-loaded nanochains of Fe3O4 nanoparticles which were fabricated by the solvent exchange method combined with magnetic field-directed self-assembly. Firstly, the nanochains were added into the peripheral blood during extracorporeal circulation and subjected to a rotational magnetic field for actuation. The leukocytes of the lesion were then conjugated by the nanochains via folic acid (FA) targeting. Finally, the rotational magnetic field actuated the nanochains to release the drugs and effectively damage the cytomembrane of the leukocytes. This strategy was conceptually shown in vitro (K562 cell line) and the method's safety was evaluated in a rat model. The preliminary results demonstrate that the nanochains are biocompatible and suitable as drug carriers, showing direct lethal action to the leukemic cells combined with a rotational magnetic field. More importantly to note is that the nanochains can be effectively kept from entry into the body. Here, melt-extracted Ni- and Fe-based amorphous metallic fibers (AMFs) were annealed below their glass transition temperatures. The tensile behaviors and microstructures of the melt-extracted and the annealed AMF samples were studied. For melt-extracted Ni- and Fe-based samples, the difference of fracture angles can be attributed to their difference of parameter α in the unified tensile fracture criterion. The revolution in the microstructure and mechanical properties induced by annealing treatment has been interpreted in detail. Prolonging the annealing time or increasing the annealing temperature can lead to an increase in fracture stresses of both Ni- and Fe-based AMFs. Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is the most common malignant tumor of the male urinary system. Nanodrug delivery systems (NDDS) have been widely applied in drug delivery for tumor therapy; however, nanotherapeutics encounter various biological barriers that prevent successful accumulation of drugs, specifically at diseased sites. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a CRPC-targeting nanocomposite with fine biocompatibility for penetrating various biological barriers, delivering sufficient drugs to the targeting site and improving therapeutic efficiency. In this work, CRPC cell membranes were firstly adapted as biomimetic vectors for the encapsulating PEG−PLGA polymer containing the chemotherapy drug docetaxel (DTX). The CRPC membrane-camouflaged nanoparticles can easily escape early recognition by the immune system, penetrate the extracellular barrier, and evade clearance by the circulatory system. In addition to the characteristics of traditional nanoparticles, the CRPC cell membrane contains an arsenal of highly specific homotypic moieties that can be used to recognize the same cancer cell types and increase the targeted drug delivery of DTX. In vivo fluorescence and radionuclide dual-model imaging were fulfilled by decorating the biomimetic nanosystem with near-infrared dye and isotope, which validated the homotypic targeting property offered by the CRPC cell membrane coating. Importantly, remarkably improved therapeutic efficacy was achieved in a mice model bearing CRPC tumors. Developing light structure materials that work stably at elevated temperatures is a long-standing challenge for many application fields, particularly in the development of aerospace equipment. Zn/Cd alloying elements were prospected to improve the stability of the lightest Mg-Li based alloys; however, little is known about the intermediate-temperature mechanical properties of such alloys. The present work investigated the tensile behaviors of a cold-rolled Mg-Li-Al-Cd-Zn alloy in a temperature range of 30–150 °C. The results indicate that the alloy can host a tensile strength σUTS of 108~121 MPa, a yield strength σYP of 97~109 MPa and elongation εB of 14–15 % at 150 °C, dependent on the tensile direction. The mechanical properties intensively are modulated by temperature through the competition between work hardening and softening. Work hardening due to dislocation blocking by the precipitated MgLi2X phase dominated the deformation at low temperatures, while softening that resulted from dynamic recrystallization was the main effect at high temperatures. Correspondingly, a quasi-cleavage mechanism dominated the fracture at temperatures near room temperature, and microvoid coalescence worked at high temperatures above 100 °C. Our results offer a new experimental understanding of the elevated-temperature mechanical behaviors of Mg-Li alloys and will advance the development of new light magnesium alloys with high stability. Residual stresses (RS) in hot forging severely degrade the machining accuracy and stability of super alloy parts. This is the main reason for deformation during subsequent mechanical machining. RS need recognition, as well as the microstructure and properties achieved by forging. In this study, a simulation and experimental research on the single-pass compression of GH4169 are presented. RS variations with forging temperature, loading speed, and cooling speed are established by finite element (FE) simulation. Based on the FE results, an experiment is conducted at a temperature of 1020   ℃ , loading speed of 25 mm/s, and press amount of 16 mm, immediately followed by water cooling. A new layer-stripping method is put forward for the high-efficiency measurement and correction of interior RS. Compared with the traditional strain gauge layer-stripping method, the measurement efficiency of the new layer-stripping method is increased by 10 times. Meanwhile, grain photographs are collected and grain size evolution is summarized; thus, the RS is characterized and evaluated from the angle of grains. It is demonstrated that the RS level rises with the increase in forging temperature, loading speed, and cooling speed, while the cooling method influences both the stress value and distribution. Compressive RS changes to tensile, while the average grain size reduces from the surfaces to the center. In the compressive regions, stress values share the same rules as grain size, while, in the tensile regions, they are contrary. The RS levels are divided according to the grain degree standard. According to the residual stress and grain distribution law of the blank, the optimal position of the part in the blank can be determined. Compared with the center position of the part in the blank, the residual stress of the part is reduced by 70%. In this paper, we report the results obtained from the hot compression behaviour of co-spray-formed Al-Si/7075 bimetallic gradient alloys by investigating the five selected layers divided evenly from top to bottom. It was found that with a decrease in the strain rate and an increase in temperature, the hot compression flow stress of deposited alloys decreases gradually, as expected. The relationship between flow stress, temperature and strain rate follows the Arrhenius relationship. The deformation activation energy of the co-spray formed gradient alloy gradually increases from bottom to top in the height direction, which are 100.15, 167.35, 185.54, 208.78 and 220.83 KJ/mol, indicating that the degree of difficulty in the deformation of the alloy is affected by changes in the silicon content of the alloy. Finally, the flow stress constitutive equation is calculated for each layer of alloy material, which is instructive for the subsequent study of the densification process of co-spray-formed gradient alloys. Bimetallic gradient alloys have attracted research attention recently due to their potential applications in the aerospace and automobile industries. In this study, Al-20Si/7075 bimetallic gradient alloys were successfully manufactured by co-spray forming and the roll process. We investigated the thermal expansion behavior of the gradient alloy. It was found that the coefficients of thermal expansion increased with silicon content and increased temperature, reaching the highest point at 573 K, after which they decreased on account of the relaxation of residual thermal stress and the silicon desolvation from the supersaturated aluminum phase. The measured thermal expansion coefficient can be roughly predicted through the traditional theoretical models. Our results revealed the thermal expansion behavior of Al-20Si/7075 bimetallic gradient alloys and would improve the development of new type aluminum–silicon alloy for electronic packaging. The hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of powder metallurgy (PM) Ti43Al9V0.3Y alloy with fine equiaxed γ and B2 grains were investigated using uniaxial hot compression. Its stress exponent and activation energy were 2.78 and 295.86 kJ/mol, respectively. The efficiency of power dissipation and instability parameters were evaluated, and processing maps at 50% and 80% strains were developed. It is demonstrated that the microstructure evolution was dependent on the temperature, strain, and strain rate. Both temperature and strain increases led to a decrease in the γ phase. Moreover, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and grain boundary slip both played important roles in deformation. Reasonable parameters for secondary hot working included temperatures above 1100 °C but below 1200 °C with a strain rate of less than 1 s−1 at 80% strain. Suitable hot working parameters at 50% strain were 1150–1200 °C/≤1 s−1 and 1000–1200 °C/≤0.05 s−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel strategy of microstructure design is introduced to improve the mechanical properties of TiAl alloys, fabricated by powder metallurgy. The gas atomization powder and as-HIPed (Hot isostatic pressing) TiAl are investigated by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, and electron backscattered diffraction. The dispersed submicron precipitate in the microstructure is determined to be Y2O3. A microstructure with uniform fine grain is obtained. The room temperature strength and strain reach 793 MPa and 1.5%, respectively. The strength and strain at 700 °C are still as high as 664 MPa and 9.2%, respectively. Ferritin is a spherical iron storage protein composed of 24 subunits and an iron core. Using biomimetic mineralization, magnetic iron oxide can be synthesized in the cavity of ferritin to form magnetoferritin (MFt). MFt, also known as a superparamagnetic protein, is a novel magnetic nanomaterial with good biocompatibility and flexibility for biomedical applications. Recently, it has been demonstrated that MFt had tumor targetability and a peroxidase-like catalytic activity. Thus, MFt, with its many unique properties, provides a powerful platform for tumor diagnosis and therapy. In this review, we discuss the biomimetic synthesis and biomedical applications of MFt. To fabricate metallic 316L/HA (hydroxyapatite) materials which meet the requirements of an implant’s mechanical properties and bioactivity for its function as human bone replacement, selective laser melting (SLM) has been employed in this study to prepare a 316L stainless steel matrix, which was subsequently covered with a hydroxyapatite (HA) coating using the sol-gel method. High density (98.9%) as-printed parts were prepared using a laser power of 230 W and a scanning speed of 800 mm/s. Austenite and residual acicular ferrite existed in the microstructure of the as-printed 316L stainless steel, and the sub-grain was uniform, whose primary dendrite spacing was around 0.35 μm. The as-printed 316L stainless steel showed the highest Vickers hardness, elastic modulus, and tensile strength at ~ (~ means about; same applies below unless stated otherwise) 247 HV, ~214.2 GPa, and ~730 MPa, respectively. The elongation corresponding to the highest tensile strength was ~38.8%. The 316L/HA structure, measured by the Relative Growth Rate (RGR) value, exhibited no cell cytotoxicity, and presented better biocompatibility than the uncoated as-printed and as-cast 316L samples. The simulation of a complete manufacturing process to produce an aero engine case, including forging, rolling, and machining processes, is analyzed via finite element software. The deformation of the turning and drilling processes is quantitatively studied using the energy principles. Firstly, simulations of multi-stage forging of aero engine case and machining-induced residual stress are conducted and verified via the residual stresses test in order to provide the initial elastic strain energy condition prior to machining processes. The effects of blank forging-induced residual stress and machining-induced residual stress on the deformation of titanium alloys aero engine case are investigated. Secondly, a potential energy expression for the machining processes is developed. The predicted results of turning and drilling simulations indicate that there is an optimal process in which the deformation and potential energy decline rapidly compared with the other processes and finally, gradually stabilize at the end of the process.
