Beijing is a city on the North China Plain with severe land subsidence. In recent years, Beijing has implemented effective measures to control land subsidence. Since this implementation, the development of time-series land subsidence in Beijing has slowed and has shown nonlinearity. Most previous studies have focused on the linear evolution of land subsidence; the nonlinear evolutionary patterns of land subsidence require further discussion. Therefore, we aimed to identify the evolution of land subsidence in Beijing, based on Envisat ASAR and Radarsat-2 images from 2003 to 2020, using permanent scatterer interferometric synthetic aperture radar (PS-InSAR) and cubic curve polynomial fitting methods. The dates of the extreme and inflection points were identified from the polynomial coefficients. From 2003 to 2020, the subsidence rate reached 138.55 mm/year, and the area with a subsidence rate > 15 mm/year reached 1688.81 km2. The cubic polynomials fit the time-series deformation well, with R2 ranging from 0.86 to 0.99 and the RMSE ranging from 1.97 to 60.28 mm. Furthermore, the subsidence rate at 96.64% of permanent scatterer (PS) points first increased and then decreased. The subsidence rate at 86.58% of the PS points began to decrease from 2010 to 2015; whereas the subsidence rate at 30.51% of the PS point reached a maximum between 2015 and 2019 and then decreased. The cumulative settlement continued to increase at 69.49% of the PS points. These findings imply that groundwater levels are highly correlated with the temporal evolution of subsidence in areas with pattern D (Vs+-, S+), with increasing and then decelerating rates and increasing amounts. In regions with a thickness of compressible clay layer over 210 m, subsidence follows pattern E (Vs+, S+), with increasing rates and amounts. Fractures such as the Gaoliying and Sunhe fractures significantly influence the spatial distribution of subsidence patterns, showing distinct differences on either side. Near the Global Resort Station, pattern E (Vs+, S+) intensifies in subsidence, potentially due to factors like land use changes and construction activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Enrichments of critical metals in ferromanganese (Fe–Mn) nodules have received increasing attention in both deep-sea research and mineral exploration. To better assess the controls on the resource potential of Fe–Mn nodules, we conducted a comprehensive and detailed study of twelve nodules from the Philippine Sea collected from water depths of 4400 to 6000 m by investigating their microstructures, bulk geochemistry, and in situ Fe–Mn oxyhydroxide geochemistry, using XRF, ICP-MS, EMPA, and LA-ICP-MS coupled with BSE images. We successfully resolved different controls on the element enrichments, of which significant selective enrichment of metal elements in seawater is similar to that of typical hydrogenetic nodules. An enhanced supply of iron hydroxide due to calcite dissolution resulted in a dilution effect on Co, Ni, and Mn but an enrichment effect on rare earth elements plus yttrium (REE + Y) and Fe in nodules near topographic highs close to the carbonate compensation depth. While the supply of diagenetic Mn resulted in a dilution on Co and REE + Y, it resulted in enrichment on Ni, Cu, Li, and Mn on nodules on the seafloor. Moreover, via micro-layer analyses we confirmed the growth rate is a major determinant for the correlations of Co and REE with Fe-oxyhydroxides in these Philippine Sea nodules. Due to the multiple and poorly-crystallized phases in ferromanganese (Fe–Mn) nodules, research on the variability of micro-layers in nodules is limited and the accumulation of various elements with the growth of micro-layers have not been well documented. To address this gap, we examined the spatial distributions of elements in cross-sections of nodules from the Northwestern Pacific Ocean using in-situ electron microprobe analyses coupled with backscattered electron imaging and high-resolution X-ray elemental intensity mapping. Results suggest their significant selective enrichment of metal elements is similar to that of typical hydrogenetic nodules and diagenetic nodules. Moreover, WMn+Fe of Fe–Mn oxyhydroxide is equal to 50% after normalization and Co and Ni show positive relationships with Mn/Fe ratio, suggesting Fe oxyhydroxide would serve as a diluter at exposed surface during nodule growth. In suboxic conditions, Mn, Ni, and Co start to release, and the remaining Fe oxyhydroxide may react with the surrounding sediment to form Si-rich layers. Our studies reveal the diverse growth processes and show a much larger chemical heterogeneity of individual layers, which extend the models about the mechanisms of chemical precipitation and environmental conditions that existed during nodule growth. The Sayashk tin (Sn) deposit is located within the southern part of the Eastern Junggar orogenic belt in Xinjiang Province and forms part of the Kalamaili alkaline granite belt. There are many Sn polymetallic deposits in the area. To constrain the age, genesis, and tectonic setting of the Sayashk tin deposit in the East Junggar region, we conducted a bulk-rock geochemical analysis of the granite porphyry (SR1) and medium- to fine-grained granite (SR2) hosts of the deposit, LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb dating and Lu–Hf isotopic analysis, as well as molybdenite Re–OS dating and combined our results with the metallogenic conditions and other geological characteristics of the deposit. The results show that the Sayashk Sn deposit is indeed spatially, temporally, and genetically closely related to the granite porphyry and medium-fine-grained granite. Both zircon U–Pb ages are 308.2 ± 1.5 Ma and 310.9 ± 1.5 Ma, respectively. The isochron age of molybdenite is 301.4 ± 6.7 Ma, which represents the crystallization age of the granite porphyry and medium-fine-grained granite. Therefore, all of them formed in the late Carboniferous epoch. The medium-fine-grained granites and granite porphyry are characteristically rich in Si and alkali, poor in Ca and Mg, rich in high field-strength elements (HFSE, e.g., Zr, Hf) and Ce, and deficient in Ba, Sr, Eu, P, and Ti. They are typical A-type granites, showing the characteristics of a mixed crustal mantle source. The εHf(t) values of the zircon from the granite porphyry (SR1) range from 10.27 to 16.17 (average 13.71), εHf(t) values of the zircon from the medium-fine-grained granites (SR2) are between 5.72 and 9.21 (average 7.08), and the single model ages (TDM1) and two-stage model ages (TDM2) of the granite porphyry (SR1) fall within the ranges of 319~535 Ma and 339~644 Ma. The single model ages (TDM1) and two-stage model ages (TDM2) of the medium-fine-grained granites (SR2) fall within the ranges of 346~479 Ma and 309~557 Ma. There is little difference between their two-stage model ages and zircon U–Pb ages, indicating that the Sayashk granite may be the product of partial melting of juvenile crustal. The Zhangxuan district in North China, also known as Northwestern Hebei "Golden Triangle," develops many intrusion-hosted lode-gold deposits. The Dongping gold deposit in the Zhangxuan district is well known for its unique hosting of rocks and ore mineral assemblages. Magnetite and pyrite are common minerals that widely exist in ores of the Dongping deposit. To get a better understanding of the evolution of the ore-forming fluids responsible for mineralization, we report on an integrated study on the electron microprobe analysis (EMPA) and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) analysis of magnetite and pyrite from the deposit. The major results are as follows: The magnetite grains from the Dongping deposit show a variable content of major and trace elements such as Ti, Al, Si, Fe, Mn, Cr, Na, V, and Co, and the majority of the magnetite contain low Ti contents, revealing potential properties of hydrothermal magnetite. The flat time-resolved signals of LA-ICP-MS imply that the majority of trace elements in magnetite exist in the form of isomorphism, except for some incompatible trace elements. Magnetites from the Dongping deposit have compositional characteristics of hydrothermal origins, and the genetic discriminant diagrams of Ti–V, Ti–Ni/Cr or (Ca + Al + Mn)–(Ti + V) show that they may be originated from magma differentiated hydrothermal solutions. Co, Ni in pyrite from Dongping mainly enter the lattice via isomorphism, and Cu, Zn, Ag, W, Sn, Au, Pb, and Bi are partitioned into pyrite as micro/nano- mineral inclusions. The Co, Ni content, and the Ni/Co ratios, indicated that the temperature of the ore-forming fluids has decreased from Py-1 to Py-2, and the enrichment of Au in Py-2 may be related to the cooling and boiling of the fluids. Using an iterative numerical approach, we have obtained the self-consistent thermal expansion, heat capacity, and Grüneisen parameters of diopside (MgCaSi2O6) over wide pressure and temperature ranges based on experimental data from the literature. Our results agree well with the published experimental and theoretical data. The determined thermodynamic parameters exhibit nonlinear dependences with increasing pressure. Compared with other minerals in the upper mantle, we found that the adiabatic temperature gradient obtained using the thermodynamic data of diopside is larger than that of garnet while lower than that of olivine, when ignoring the Fe incorporation. Combining our results with thermodynamic parameters of garnet obtained in previous studies, we have estimated the adiabatic temperature gradient and geotherm of an eclogitic upper mantle in a depth range of 200–450 km. The results show that the estimated adiabatic temperature gradient of the eclogite model is ~16% and ~3% lower than that of the pyrolite model at a depth of 200 km and 410 km, respectively. However, the high mantle potential temperature of the eclogite model leads to a similar temperature as the pyrolite model in a depth range of 200–410 km. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
