In Internet of Vehicles (IoV), the secure data transmission between vehicles and transportation infrastructure effectively ensures the safety and fast driving of vehicles, while authentication and key agreement protocols between vehicles and transportation infrastructure (V2I) play an important role in ensuring data security and user privacy. However, how to design a provably secure and lightweight V2I authentication protocol for IoV is a challenge. Recently, Kumar et al. proposed a conditional privacy-preserving and desynchronization-resistant authentication protocol for IoV, but we find that Kumar et al.'s scheme is vulnerable to identity guessing attacks, impersonation attacks, and a lack of session key secrecy once the attacker obtains data stored in smart card through side-channel attacks. We also point out that Kumar et al.'s protocol is vulnerable to Roadside Unit (RSU) captured attacks and lacks perfect forward secrecy. Therefore, we propose an improved V2I authentication protocol for IoV, which uses the Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist RSU captured attacks, and designed a three-factor secrecy strategy to resist side-channel attacks; a conditional privacy-preserving strategy was also adopted to achieve anonymity and malicious user tracking. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly pivotal in operations such as flood rescue, wildfire surveillance, and covert military endeavors, with their integration into the Internet of Things (IoT) networks broadening the scope of services they provide. Amidst this expansion, security concerns for UAVs have come to the forefront, particularly in open communication environments where they face authentication challenges and risks of sensitive data, including location information, being exposed to unauthorized parties. To address these issues, we propose a secure and lightweight authentication scheme that combines the use of anonymity mechanisms and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs). Specifically, we employ pseudo- and temporary identities to maintain the anonymity of UAVs, while also utilizing PUF technology to strengthen the security of Ground Station Servers (GSSs) against physical threats. Rigorous validation through ProVerif and the Random Oracle (ROR) Model indicates our scheme's superior performance over existing protocols in terms of both efficiency and security. To support more complex and robust online services, enterprise-class applications prefer to interconnect multiple servers as the pedestal to enhance the system's interoperability. However, the multiserver architecture always struggles to reconcile the trade-off between convenience and security, leaving users exposed to a variety of network attack threats. Existing security authentication schemes based on the Chebyshev Chaotic Map for multiserver architectures cannot provide three-factor (including password, biometric feature, and smart card) security. Therefore, we propose a novel Physical-Unclonable-Function-based Lightweight Three-Factor Authentication (PUF-LTA) scheme, which can achieve three-factor security. The PUF-LTA scheme mainly includes two components: (1) PUF-assisted registration and (2) lightweight mutual authentication with one-time interaction. During the PUF-assisted registration process, to defend against side-channel attacks on smart cards, the login credentials of users are XORed with the unique identifier generated by the PUF so that the adversary cannot obtain these secret login credentials. During the lightweight mutual authentication process, we combine the Chebyshev polynomial map and symmetric encryption/decryption to negotiate the session key between users and servers, which only needs one interaction. The security performance of PUF-LTA is theoretically proved by leveraging the random oracle model. In contrast with relevant multiserver authentication schemes, PUF-LTA is more efficient and suitable for resource-constrained multiserver environments because it can ensure secure three-factor authentication and support flexible biometrics and password updates with less computation cost. The orchid is one of the most distinctive and highly valued flowering plants. Nevertheless, the CONSTANS-like (COL) gene family plays significant roles in the control of flowering, and its functions in Orchidaceae have been minimally explored. This research identified 68 potential COL genes within seven orchids' complete genome, divided into three groups (groups I, II, and III) via a phylogenetic tree. The modeled three-dimensional structure and the conserved domains exhibited a high degree of similarity among the orchid COL proteins. The selection pressure analysis showed that all orchid COLs suffered a strong purifying selection. Furthermore, the orchid COL genes exhibited functional and structural heterogeneity in terms of collinearity, gene structure, cis-acting elements within their promoters, and expression patterns. Moreover, we identified 50 genes in orchids with a homology to those involved in the COL transcriptional regulatory network in Arabidopsis. Additionally, the first overexpression of CsiCOL05 and CsiCOL09 in Cymbidium sinense protoplasts suggests that they may antagonize the regulation of flowering time and gynostemium development. High-throughput phenotype monitoring systems for field crops can not only accelerate the breeding process but also provide important data support for precision agricultural monitoring. Traditional phenotype monitoring methods for field crops relying on artificial sampling and measurement have some disadvantages including low efficiency, strong subjectivity, and single characteristics. To solve these problems, the rapid monitoring, acquisition, and analysis of phenotyping information of field crops have become the focus of current research. The research explores the systematic framing of phenotype monitoring systems for field crops. Focusing on four aspects, namely phenotyping sensors, mobile platforms, control systems, and phenotyping data preprocessing algorithms, the application of the sensor technology, structural design technology of mobile carriers, intelligent control technology, and data processing algorithms to phenotype monitoring systems was assessed. The research status of multi-scale phenotype monitoring products was summarized, and the merits and demerits of various phenotype monitoring systems for field crops in application were discussed. In the meantime, development trends related to phenotype monitoring systems for field crops in aspects including sensor integration, platform optimization, standard unification, and algorithm improvement were proposed. In Internet of Things (IoT)-based healthcare, sensor nodes are deployed to detect the patient's physiological data in a wireless sensor network. In order to prevent unwarranted users from accessing the sensor network to obtain patients' data, designing lightweight and privacy-preserving authentication protocols plays a crucial role. Many lightweight authentication protocols for IoT-based healthcare have been proposed in recent years, but most of them may suffer from one or more security problems. In particular, few protocols can resist sensor node-captured attacks and achieve n-factor secrecy, which leads to unauthorized personnel being able to access the patient's physiological data and obtain patients' privacy. Therefore, a lightweight and privacy-preserving authentication protocol for healthcare based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and physical unclonable function (PUF) is proposed to surmount the above obstacles. We design a dynamic anonymity strategy to achieve users' anonymity and unlinkability and use PUF to protect information stored in users' devices and sensor nodes. In addition, higher security features such as three-factor secrecy, perfect forward secrecy, resistance to sensor node-captured attacks, and update asynchronous attacks are guaranteed. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most prevalent subtype of head and neck tumors, highly prone to lymph node metastasis. This study aims to examine the expression pattern of Ras-related protein Rab-27A (RAB27A) and explore its potential implications in OSCC. The expression of RAB27A was assessed through immunohistochemical analysis utilizing tissue microarrays. In vitro experiments were conducted using RAB27A-knockdown cells to investigate its impact on OSCC tumor cells. Additionally, transcriptome sequencing was performed to elucidate potential underlying mechanisms. RAB27A was significantly overexpressed in OSCC, and particularly in metastatic lymph nodes. It was positively correlated with the clinical progression and poor survival prognosis. Silencing RAB27A notably decreased the proliferation, migration, and invasion abilities of OSCC cells in vitro. A Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis indicated a strong association between RAB27A and the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathway. Further investigations revealed that RAB27A regulated the palmitoylation of EGFR via zinc finger DHHC-type containing 13 (ZDHHC13). Wireless sensor networks are a promising application of the Internet of Things in the sustainable development of smart cities, and have been afforded significant attention since first being proposed. Authentication protocols aim to protect the security and confidentiality of legitimate users when accessing and transmitting data. However, existing protocols may suffer from one or more security flaws. Recently, Butt et al. proposed an energy-efficient three-factor authentication protocol for wireless sensor networks. However, their protocol is vulnerable to several attacks, and lacks certain security properties. In this paper, the causes of these design flaws are analyzed. Furthermore, we propose a novel three-factor authentication protocol (password, smart card, and biometric information) for wireless sensor networks in Internet of Things contexts. A dynamic anonymous strategy is designed to prevent privacy disclosure and to resist sensor node capture attacks, tracking attacks, and desynchronization attacks. The Find–Guess model and random oracle model are combined to prove the security of the proposed protocol. Because of the wide distribution of overland oil and gas pipelines, some pipelines will unavoidably pass through landslide-prone mountainous areas. Landslides may cause deformation or even damage to pipelines, affecting the normal working of the pipeline system. Therefore, it is necessary to study the multiple influence factors of pipeline deformation caused by landslides and establish a forewarning model for oil and gas pipelines buried in landslides. In the present research, the field investigation and a series of large deformation numerical simulations are conducted along four pipelines located in the southeast region of China. Results show that small soil landslides are the main types of landslides threatening the safety of pipelines, whose deformation degree mainly depends on the scale of the landslides and the location of the pipelines in the landslides. Through the investigation, the scale of landslides is the main factor determining the deformation of pipelines induced by landslides. Considering the variation of the scale of landslides, with the increase of the angles, thicknesses, and lengths of the landslides, the pipeline deformation keeps increasing. When crossing the landslides laterally, the pipeline buried in the leading edge of landslides is safer than in the tail edge. What is more, it is most dangerous when the pipeline is buried in the middle of a landslide. Considering the variation of the scale of landslides, including the longitudinal length, horizontal width, thickness, and slope of landslides, as well as the location of pipelines in the landslides, a piecewise forewarning model including those parameters was established based on the influence function for crossing pipelines in landslides. The proposed forewarning model can be used for monitoring and evaluating landslide geological disasters of pipelines and reduce the risk of pipeline landslide geological hazards in the monitored area effectively. Orchids are among the most precious flowers in the world. Regulation of flowering time is one of the most important targets to enhance their ornamental value. The beauty of Arundina graminifolia is its year-round flowering, although the molecular mechanism of this flowering ability remains masked. Therefore, we performed a comprehensive assessment to integrate transcriptome and miRNA sequencing to disentangle the genetic regulation of flowering in this valuable species. Clustering analyses provided a set of molecular regulators of floral transition and floral morphogenesis. We mined candidate floral homeotic genes, including FCA, FPA, GI, FT, FLC, AP2, SOC1, SVP, GI, TCP, and CO, which were targeted by a variety of miRNAs. MiR11091 targeted the highest number of genes, including candidate regulators of phase transition and hormonal control. The conserved miR156-miR172 pathway of floral time regulation was evident in our data, and we found important targets of these miRNAs in the transcriptome. Moreover, endogenous hormone levels were determined to decipher the hormonal control of floral buds in A. graminifolia. The qRT-PCR analysis of floral and hormonal integrators validated the transcriptome expression. Therefore, miRNA-mediated mining of candidate genes with hormonal regulation forms the basis for comprehending the complex regulatory network of perpetual flowering in precious orchids. People can access and obtain services from smart home devices conveniently through fog-enabled smart home environments. The security and privacy-preserving authentication protocol play an important role. However, many proposed protocols have one or more security flaws. In particular, almost all the existing protocols for the smart home cannot resist gateway compromised attacks. The adversary can not only know the user's identity but also launch impersonation attacks. Designing a provable secure authentication protocol that avoids all known attacks on smart homes is challenging. Recently Guo et al. proposed an authentication scheme based on symmetric polynomials in the fog-enabled smart home environment. However, we found that their scheme suffers from gateway compromised attack, desynchronization attack, mobile device loss/stolen and attack, and has no untraceability and perfect forward secrecy. Therefore, we adopt a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist gateway compromised attack, adopt Elliptic Curve Diffie–Hellman (ECDH) key exchange protocol to achieve perfect forward secrecy, and propose a secure and privacy-preserving authentication protocol, which is provably secure under the random oracle model. In order to breed broccoli and other Brassica materials to be highly resistant to clubroot disease, 41 Brassicaceae varieties were developed and identified between 2020 and 2021. Seven known clubroot genes were used for screening these materials. In addition, the resistant and susceptible broccoli cultivars were designed for observing their differences in the infection process with Plasmodiophora brassicae. The results showed that 90% of total materials had carried more than two clubroot resistance genes: one material carried two disease resistance genes, four materials carried seven genes for clubroot resistance, two materials carried six genes for clubroot resistance, and in total 32% of these materials carried five genes for clubroot resistance. As a result, several new genotypes of Brassicaceae germplasm were firstly created and obtained based on distant hybridization and identification of loci conferring resistance against Plasmodiophora brassicae in this study. We found and revealed that similar infection models of Plasmodiophora brassicae occurred in susceptible and resistant cultivars of broccoli, but differences in infection efficiency of Plasmodiophora brassicae also existed in both materials. For resistant broccoli plants, a small number of conidia formed in the root hair, and only a few spores could enter the cortex without forming sporangia while sporangia could form in susceptible plants. Exosomes are membranous structures secreted by nearly all cell types. As critical messengers for intercellular communication, exosomes deliver bioactive cargoes to recipient cells and are involved in multiple physiopathological processes, including immunoregulation. Our pioneering study revealed that cancer cells release programmed death-ligand 1-positive exosomes into the circulation to counter antitumor immunity systemically via T cells. Tumor cell-derived exosomes (TDEs) also play an immunosuppressive role in other immunocytes, including dendritic cells (DCs), macrophages, natural killer (NK) cells, and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). Moreover, exosomes secreted by nontumor cells in the tumor microenvironments (TMEs) also exert immunosuppressive effects. This review systematically provides a summary of the immunosuppression induced by exosomes in tumor microenvironments, which modulates tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, and immunotherapeutic resistance. Additionally, therapeutic strategies targeting the molecular mechanism of exosome-mediated tumor development, which may help overcome several obstacles, such as immune tolerance in oncotherapy, are also discussed. To identify cultivars quickly and accurately, DNA fingerprinting of 10 broccoli varieties was performed by using simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker technology. Highly informative and polymorphic SSR markers were screened using broccoli and rapeseed. Out of the 93 SSR marker pairs, 21 pairs were selected and found to have good polymorphism. Each marker pair generated 1 to 10 polymorphic bands with an average of 4.29. The average polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.41 with a range from 0.16 to 0.95. Six selected marker pairs established the fingerprinting of the 10 accessions and their unique fingerprints. Cluster analysis of 10 accessions showed that the genetic similarity coefficient was between 0.57 and 0.91. They can be divided into 3 groups at the genetic similarity coefficient (GSC) of 0.73. The above results indicated that DNA fingerprinting could provide a scientific basis for the identification of broccoli polymerized multiple clubroot resistance genes. This study selects titanium dioxide (TiO2) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as far-infrared materials (FIRMs), and further adds water-based acrylic coatings to prepare far-infrared coatings (FIRCs). FIRCs are uniformly coated on #304 stainless steel sheets to make the test samples, which are then installed between the shell and insulation material of the hot water heater to measure the influences of various FIRCs on the performance of the hot water heater. The research results show no significant difference in the heating rate or heat insulation performance of the hot water heater with or without FIRCs coating. However, the uniformity of the water temperatures of the test samples is significantly improved with FIRCs. Considering that the uniformity of water temperature will inhibit the heating rate and heat insulation performance of the hot water heater, TiO2-FIRC should provide better performance improvement when applied to the hot water heater in this study. Grain size, grain number per panicle, and grain weight are crucial determinants of yield-related traits in cereals. Understanding the genetic basis of grain yield-related traits has been the main research object and nodal in crop science. Sorghum and maize, as very close C4 crops with high photosynthetic rates, stress tolerance and large biomass characteristics, are extensively used to produce food, feed, and biofuels worldwide. In this review, we comprehensively summarize a large number of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with grain yield in sorghum and maize. We placed great emphasis on discussing 22 fine-mapped QTLs and 30 functionally characterized genes, which greatly hinders our deep understanding at the molecular mechanism level. This review provides a general overview of the comprehensive findings on grain yield QTLs and discusses the emerging trend in molecular marker-assisted breeding with these QTLs. Sweet sorghum is a C4 crop that can be grown for silage forage, fiber, syrup and fuel production. It is generally considered a salt-tolerant plant. However, the salt tolerance ability varies among genotypes, and the mechanism is not well known. To further uncover the salt tolerance mechanism, we performed comparative transcriptome analysis with RNA samples in two sweet sorghum genotypes showing different salt tolerance abilities (salt-tolerant line RIO and salt-sensitive line SN005) upon salt treatment. These response processes mainly focused on secondary metabolism, hormone signaling and stress response. The expression pattern cluster analysis showed that RIO-specific response genes were significantly enriched in the categories related to secondary metabolic pathways. GO enrichment analysis indicated that RIO responded earlier than SN005 in the 2 h after treatment. In addition, we identified more transcription factors (TFs) in RIO than SN005 that were specifically expressed differently in the first 2 h of salt treatment, and the pattern of TF change was obviously different. These results indicate that an early response in secondary metabolism might be essential for salt tolerance in sweet sorghum. To address which mitochondria-related nuclear differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and related pathways are altered during human oocyte maturation, single-cell analysis was performed in three oocyte states: in vivo matured (M-IVO), in vitro matured (M-IVT), and failed to mature in vitro (IM-IVT). There were 691 DEGs and 16 mitochondria-related DEGs in the comparison of M-IVT vs. IM-IVT oocytes, and 2281 DEGs and 160 mitochondria-related DEGs in the comparison of M-IVT vs. M-IVO oocytes, respectively. The GO and KEGG analyses showed that most of them were involved in pathways such as oxidative phosphorylation, pyruvate metabolism, peroxisome, and amino acid metabolism, i.e., valine, leucine, isoleucine, glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism or degradation. During the progress of oocyte maturation, the metabolic pathway, which derives the main source of ATP, shifted from glucose metabolism to pyruvate and fatty acid oxidation in order to maintain a low level of damaging reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Although the immature oocytes could be cultured to a mature stage by an in vitro technique (IVM), there were still some differences in mitochondria-related regulations, which showed that the mitochondria were regulated by nuclear genes to compensate for their developmental needs. Meanwhile, the results indicated that the current IVM culture medium should be optimized to compensate for the special need for further development according to this disclosure, as it was a latent strategy to improve the effectiveness of the IVM procedure. MicroRNA156 (miR156) and miR529 have high sequence similarity and recognize overlapping sites in the same target genes, SQUAMOSA promoter binding protein-like (SPL or SBP box) genes, making it difficult to accurately distinguish their roles in regulatory networks that affect numerous biological functions. Here, we collected data about miR156 and miR529 family members from representative land plants and performed sequence comparisons, phylogenetic analysis, small RNA sequencing, and parallel analysis of RNA ends (PARE) analysis to dissect their evolutionary and functional differences. Although miR156 and miR529 are highly similar, there are differences in their mismatch-sensitive regions, which are essential for target recognition. In land plants, miR156 precursors are conserved mainly within the hairpin region, whereas miR529 precursors are conserved outside the hairpin region, including both the 5' and 3' arms. Phylogenetic analysis showed that MIR156 and MIR529 evolved independently, through divergent evolutionary patterns. The two genes also exhibit different expression patterns, with MIR529 preferentially expressed in reproductive tissues and MIR156 in other tissues. PARE analysis revealed that miR156 and miR529 possess specific targets in addition to common targets in maize, pointing to functional differences between them. Based on our findings, we developed a method for the rapid identification of miR529 and miR156 family members and uncovered the evolutionary divergence of these families, providing insights into their different regulatory roles in plant growth and development. In the industrial automated production line, how to use the existing low-cost pneumatic equipment to obtain the best positioning effect has become a significant engineering problem. In this paper, a differential switching method is proposed in a pneumatic servo system consisting of four low-cost on–off valves for more precise control and lower prices. All valves are simultaneously open at the initial stage of each control period, and the differential closing time of the desired valves is calculated through the theoretical models. A sliding mode controller is applied with the proposed method, and the system stability is proven. The real-time control setup including three software layers is proposed to implement the algorithm. Several experiments are performed on a real-time embedded controller. Average 0.83% overshoot and 0.18 mm steady-state error are observed in the step response experiment. The highest frequency of sine wave that can be tracked is 1 Hz, and the average error is 1.68 mm. The maximum steady-state error is about 0.5 mm in the step response under payloads of 5.25 kg. Flavonoids are key secondary metabolites that are biologically active and perform diverse functions in plants such as stress defense against abiotic and biotic stress. In addition to its importance, no comprehensive information has been available about the secondary metabolic response of Populus tree, especially the genes that encode key enzymes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis under drought stress. In this study, the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed that the expression of flavonoid biosynthesis genes (PtPAL, Pt4-CL, PtCHS, PtFLS-1, PtF3H, PtDFR, and PtANS) gradually increased in the leaves of hybrid poplar (P. tremula × P. alba), corresponding to the drought stress duration. In addition, the activity and capacity of antioxidants have also increased, which is positively correlated with the increment of phenolic, flavonoid, anthocyanin, and carotenoid compounds under drought stress. As the drought stress prolonged, the level of reactive oxygen species such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and singlet oxygen (O2−) too increased. The concentration of phytohormone salicylic acid (SA) also increased significantly in the stressed poplar leaves. Our research concluded that drought stress significantly induced the expression of flavonoid biosynthesis genes in hybrid poplar plants and enhanced the accumulation of phenolic and flavonoid compounds with resilient antioxidant activity. Simple Summary: Brain metastases (BMs) are cancerous lesions that originated from cancers outside the brain. Specific types of BMs are found distributing in specific brain areas. The infratentorial regions are frequently affected, causing severe neurological symptoms. Thus, it is necessary to investigate what types of tumors tend to form infratentorial BMs and whether these lesions are more fatal. By analyzing substantial brain imaging data of BMs, we found the vulnerability of infratentorial regions to most types of BMs, and found the infratentorial localization of BMs was significantly associated with young age, male sex, lung neuroendocrine and squamous cell carcinomas, more active cell division of the tumors, and patients with poorer outcomes. Additionally, infratentorial involvement might predict worse outcomes for patients who received surgery. Our findings underlined the distinctive role of infratentorial localization of BMs and its potential relationship with specific clinical characteristics, which may assist diagnosis, treatment choice, and prognostic prediction of BMs. The infratentorial regions are vulnerable to develop brain metastases (BMs). However, the associations between the infratentorial localization of BMs and clinical characteristics remained unclear. We retrospectively studied 1102 patients with 4365 BM lesions. Voxel-wise mapping of MRI was applied to construct the tumor frequency heatmaps after normalization and segmentation. The analysis of differential involvement (ADIFFI) was further used to obtain statistically significant clusters. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression were used to analyze the prognosis. The parietal, insular and left occipital lobes, and cerebellum were vulnerable to BMs with high relative metastatic risks. Infratentorial areas were site-specifically affected by the lung, breast, and colorectal cancer BMs, but inversely avoided by melanoma BMs. Significant infratentorial clusters were associated with young age, male sex, lung neuroendocrine and squamous cell carcinomas, high expression of Ki-67 of primaries and BMs, and patients with poorer prognosis. Inferior OS was observed in patients with ≥3 BMs and those who received whole-brain radiotherapy alone. Infratentorial involvement of BMs was an independent risk factor of poor prognosis for patients who received surgery (p = 0.023, hazard ratio = 1.473, 95% confidence interval = 1.055–2.058). Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been considered as the major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) has been reported to be oncogenic. The underlying mechanisms of HBV-related HCC are not fully understood, and the role played by the HBx protein in HBV induced carcinogenesis remains controversial. CDC42, a member of the Rho GTPase family, has been reported to be overexpressed in several different cancers, including HBV-related HCC. However, the specific role of CDC42 in HCC development remains unclear. Here, we investigated the cellular mechanisms by which CDC42 was responsible for the higher proliferation of HuH-7 cells mediated by HBx. We found that the expression level of CDC42 and its activity were significantly increased in HuH-7-HBx cells. The deficiency of CDC42 using the CRISPR/Cas9 system and inhibition by specific inhibitor CASIN led to the reduction of HBx-mediated proliferation. Furthermore, we observed that IQ Motif Containing GTPase Activating Protein 1 (IQGAP1), the downstream mediator of the CDC42 pathway, might be involved in the carcinogenesis induced by HBx. Therefore, the HBx/CDC42/IQGAP1 signaling pathway may potentially play an important role in HBx-mediated carcinogenesis.
