The ability of transformers to capture global context information is highly beneficial for recognizing subtle differences in facial expressions. However, compared to convolutional neural networks, transformers require the computation of dependencies between each element and all other elements, leading to high computational complexity. Additionally, the large number of model parameters need extensive data for training so as to avoid overfitting. In this paper, according to the characteristics of facial expression recognition tasks, we made targeted improvements to the Swin transformer network. The proposed Swin-Fer network adopts the fusion strategy from the middle layer to deeper layers and employs a method of data dimension conversion to make the network perceive more spatial dimension information. Furthermore, we also integrated a mean module, a split module, and a group convolution strategy to effectively control the number of parameters. On the Fer2013 dataset, an in-the-wild dataset, Swin-Fer achieved an accuracy of 71.11%. On the CK+ dataset, an in-the-lab dataset, the accuracy reached 100%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recovery of the global economy in the aftermath of COVID-19 faces enormous challenges. Ensuring stable income growth of the population has become an important means for developing countries to ensure sustained economic development. Raising the overall income of the population is a public initiative that benefits all citizens; therefore, governments of developing countries should promote the implementation of relevant public policies and the provision of public goods to ensure that existing economic instruments can benefit the entire population. In this regard, public space, as a typical form of public good, may play an important role in promoting the benefits of existing economic policies for all residents. This paper examines how residents' use of public space contributes to their income growth through social capital. Hypotheses are tested based on an econometric analysis of 1565 questionnaires received from Chinese workers. The results show that residents' use of public space can indeed be an important way to increase their income, which is realized through the enhancement of social capital. The research presented in this paper provides a new influence variable of public space to improve residents' income. Further, it improves people's understanding of the three classical concepts—public space, social capital, and income—by establishing the logical connection and theoretical explanation of physical space, emotional space, and value space in human society. The mechanical strength of rice culm, an essential factor for lodging resistance and yield maintenance, is influenced by the composition and structure of the cell wall. In this study, we characterized a rice brittle culm mutant 22 (bc22), derived from LR005 through ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis. The bc22 culm exhibited increased fragility and reduced mechanical strength compared to LR005. The mutant displayed pleiotropic effects, including a shorter plant height and panicle length, a smaller grain size, and the absence of the glume hairs. Scanning electron microscopy revealed a decrease in cell density and a looser structure in the bc22 culms. Biochemical analysis demonstrated a significant increase in hemicellulose content and a marked reduction in lignin content in the culm of bc22. Genetic analysis indicated that the brittle culm trait was governed by a single recessive gene. After employing bulked segregant analysis (BSA), whole-genome resequencing, and MutMap methods, LOC_Os02g25230 was identified as the candidate gene responsible for bc22. In bc22, a point mutation from proline (Pro) to leucine (Leu) in its coding region led to the pleiotropic phenotype. A complementation test further confirmed that the missense mutation causing the proline to leucine amino acid substitution in LOC_Os02g25230 was causative of the observed bc22 phenotype. Additionally, gene expression analysis showed that BC22 had higher expression levels in the culms, leaves, and spikelets compared to the roots. Taken together, our findings indicate that BC22 is a pleiotropic gene, and the influence of BC22 on brittleness may be associated with cell wall biosynthesis in rice culm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Almost all insects demonstrate a wide variety of behavioral, physiological, biochemical and molecular circadian rhythms during their natural selection process. Some examples of the circadian rhythm in insects include the sleep–wake cycle, foraging time, migration and hormone fluctuation. Although the circadian rhythms of activities have been studied in several termite species, the molecular mechanisms of circadian rhythms in termites are unclear. In this study, we observed that, even in complete darkness, the termites Reticulitermes chinensis and Odontotermes formosanus showed clear circadian rhythms of locomotor activity. Knockdown of the clock genes cryptochrome 2 (Cry2) and period 1 (Per1) impaired the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity in constant darkness in the two termite species. We verified that locomotor activity in subterranean termites is controlled by the circadian clock. Thus, this study contributes to a better understanding of circadian clock mechanisms in subterranean insects. Locomotor activity rhythms are crucial for foraging, mating and predator avoidance in insects. Although the circadian rhythms of activity have been studied in several termite species, the molecular mechanisms of circadian rhythms in termites are still unclear. In this study, we found that two termite species, R. chinensis and O. formosanus, exhibited clear circadian rhythms of locomotor activity in constant darkness along with rhythmically expressed core clock genes, Cry2 and Per1. The knockdown of Cry2 or Per1 expression in the two termite species disrupted the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity and markedly reduced locomotor activity in constant darkness, which demonstrates that Cry2 and Per1 can mediate the circadian rhythms of locomotor activity in termites in constant darkness. Owing to the dependence of algorithms on the measurement of ship soundings and geophysical parameters, the accuracy and coverage of topography still need to be improved. Previous studies have mostly predicted topography using gravity or gravity gradient, However, there is a relative lack of integrated research combining or comparing gravity and gravity gradient. In this study, we develop observation equations to predict topography based on vertical gravity anomalies (VG; also called gravity anomalies) and vertical gravity gradient (VGG) anomalies generated by a rectangular prism. The sources of interference are divided into medium- to high-frequency errors and low-frequency errors, and these new methods reduce these errors through regularization and error equations. We also use numerical simulations to test the efficiency of the algorithm and error-reduction method. Statistics show that VGG anomalies are more sensitive to topographic fluctuations; however, the linear correlation between VG anomalies and topography is stronger. Additionally, we use the EIGEN-6C4 model of VG and VGG anomalies to predict topography in shallow and deep-sea areas, with maximum depths of 2 km and 5 km, respectively. In the shallow and deep-sea areas, the root mean square (RMS) errors of VGG anomalies prediction are 93.8 m and 233.8 m, and the corresponding accuracies improved by 7.3% and 2.3% compared with those of VG anomaly prediction, respectively. Furthermore, we use cubic spline interpolation to fuse ship soundings and improve the accuracy of the final topography results. We develop a novel analytical algorithm by constructing an observation equation system applicable to VG and VGG anomalies. Mammalian arenaviruses are rodent-borne zoonotic viruses, some of which can cause fatal hemorrhagic diseases in humans. The first discovered arenavirus, lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV), has a worldwide distribution and can be fatal for transplant recipients. However, no FDA-approved drugs or vaccines are currently available. In this study, using a quantitative proteomic analysis, we identified a variety of host factors that could be needed for LCMV infection, among which we found that protein disulfide isomerase A4 (PDIA4), a downstream factor of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), is important for LCMV infection. Biochemical analysis revealed that LCMV glycoprotein was the main viral component accounting for PDIA4 upregulation. The inhibition of ATF6-mediated ERS could prevent the upregulation of PDIA4 that was stimulated by LCMV infection. We further found that PDIA4 can affect the LCMV viral RNA synthesis processes and release. In summary, we conclude that PDIA4 could be a new target for antiviral drugs against LCMV. Litchi (Litchi chinensis) is an evergreen fruit tree grown in subtropical and tropical countries. China accounts for 71.5% of the total litchi cultivated area in the world. Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum species is one of the most important diseases of litchi in China. In this study, the causal pathogens of litchi anthracnose in Hainan, China, were determined using phylogenetic and morphological analyses. The results identified eight Colletotrichum species from four species complexes, including a proposed new species. These were C. karsti from the C. boninense species complex; C. gigasporum and the proposed new species C. danzhouense from the C. gigasporum species complex; C. arecicola, C. fructicola species complex; C. arecicola, C. fructicola and C. siamense from the C. gloeosporioides species complex; and C. musicola and C. plurivorum from the C. orchidearum species complex. Pathogenicity tests showed that all eight species could infect litchi leaves using a wound inoculation method, although the pathogenicity was different in different species. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first report that identifies C. arecicola, C. danzhouense, C. gigasporum and C. musicola as etiological agents of litchi anthracnose. Background: Tacrolimus (TAC) and mycophenolic acid (MPA) are commonly used immunosuppressive therapies after renal transplant. Our objective was to quantify TAC and MPA concentrations in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and to evaluate and validate the performance of the methodology. A prospective follow-up cohort study was conducted to determine whether intracellular concentrations were associated with adverse outcomes in renal transplants. Methods: PBMCs were prepared using the Ficoll separation technique and purified with erythrocyte lysis. The cells were counted using Sysmex XN-3100 and then packaged and frozen according to a 50 µL volume containing 1.0 × 106 cells. TAC and MPA were extracted using MagnaBeads and quantified using an LC-MS/MS platform. The chromatography was run on a reversed-phase Waters Acquity UPLC BEH C18 column (1.7 µm, 50 mm × 2.1 mm) for gradient elution separation with a total run time of 4.5 min and a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. Mobile phases A and B were water and methanol, respectively, each containing 2 mM ammonium acetate and 0.1% formic acid. Renal transplant recipients receiving TAC and MPA in combination were selected for clinical validation and divided into two groups: a stable group and an adverse outcome group. The concentrations were dynamically monitored at 5, 7, 14, and 21 days (D5, D7, D14, and D21) and 1, 2, 3, and 6 months (M1, M2, M3, and M6) after operation. Results: Method performance validation was performed according to Food and Drug Administration guidelines, showing high specificity and sensitivity. The TAC and MPA calibration curves were linear (r2 = 0.9988 and r2 = 0.9990, respectively). Both intra-day and inter-day imprecision and inaccuracy were less than 15%. Matrix effects and recoveries were satisfactory. The TAC and MPA concentrations in 304 "real" PBMC samples from 47 renal transplant recipients were within the calibration curve range (0.12 to 16.40 ng/mL and 0.20 to 4.72 ng/mL, respectively). There was a weak correlation between PBMC-C0TAC and WB-C0TAC (p < 0.05), but no correlation was found for MPA. The level of immunosuppressive intra-patient variation (IPV) was higher in PBMC at 77.47% (55.06, 97.76%) than in WB at 34.61% (21.90, 49.85%). During the dynamic change in C0TAC, PBMC-C0TAC was in a fluctuating state, and no stable period was found. PBMC-C0TAC did not show a significant difference between the stable and adverse outcome group, but the level of the adverse outcome group was generally higher than that of the stable group. Conclusions: Compared with conventional therapeutic drug monitoring, the proposed rapid and sensitive method can provide more clinically reliable information on drug concentration at an active site, which has the potential to be applied to the clinical monitoring of intracellular immunosuppressive concentration in organ transplantation. The log data generated during operation of a software system contain information about the system, and using logs for anomaly detection can detect system failures in a timely manner. Most existing log anomaly detection methods are specific to a particular system, have cold-start problems, and are sensitive to updates in log format. In this paper, we propose a log anomaly detection method LogBD based on pretrained models and domain adaptation, which uses the pretraining model BERT to learn the semantic information of logs. This method can solve problems caused by the multiple meaning of words and log statement updates. The distance to determine anomalies in LogBD is constructed on the basis of domain adaptation, using TCNs to extract common features of different system logs and mapping them to the same hypersphere space. Lastly, experiments were conducted on two publicly available datasets to evaluate the method. The major challenges for medical image segmentation tasks are complex backgrounds and fuzzy boundaries. In order to reduce their negative impacts on medical image segmentation tasks, we propose an enhanced feature extraction network (EFEN), which is based on U-Net. Our network is designed with the structure of feature re-extraction to strengthen the feature extraction ability. In the process of decoding, we use improved skip-connection, which includes positional encoding and a cross-attention mechanism. By embedding positional information, absolute information and relative information between organs can be captured. Meanwhile, useful information will be strengthened and useless information will be weakened by using the cross-attention mechanism. Our network can finely identify the features of each skip-connection and cause the features in the process of decoding to have less noise in order to reduce the effect of fuzzy object boundaries in medical images. Experiments on the CVC-ClinicDB, the task1 from ISIC-2018, and the 2018 Data Science Bowl challenge dataset demonstrate that EFEN outperforms U-Net and some recent networks. For example, our method obtains 5.23% and 2.46% DSC improvements compared to U-Net on CVC-ClinicDB and ISIC-2018, respectively. Facial expression recognition (FER) is an important field in computer vision with many practical applications. However, one of the challenges in FER is dealing with small sample data, where the number of samples available for training machine learning algorithms is limited. To address this issue, a domain adaptive learning strategy is proposed in this paper. The approach uses a public dataset with sufficient samples as the source domain and a small sample dataset as the target domain. Furthermore, the maximum mean discrepancy with kernel mean embedding is utilized to reduce the disparity between the source and target domain data samples, thereby enhancing expression recognition accuracy. The proposed Domain Adaptive Facial Expression Recognition (DA-FER) method integrates the SSPP module and Slice module to fuse expression features of different dimensions. Moreover, this method retains the regions of interest of the five senses to accomplish more discriminative feature extraction and improve the transfer learning capability of the network. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method can effectively enhance the performance of expression recognition. Specifically, when the self-collected Selfie-Expression dataset is used as the target domain, and the public datasets RAF-DB and Fer2013 are used as the source domain, the performance of expression recognition is improved to varying degrees, which demonstrates the effectiveness of this domain adaptive method. Background: There have been reports linking branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) to the hazard of various cardiovascular diseases (CVDs); however, the causal role of this relationship is still unclear. We conducted a study using bi-directional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) with the aim of investigating the possible causal correlation between BCAAs and 13 types of cardiovascular diseases. Methods: The study analyzed data of the largest genome-wide association studies (GWAS) published for the total BCAAs, encompassing isoleucine, leucine, and valine, which were obtained from the UK Biobank, as well as data for 13 cardiovascular endpoints from the MRC-IEU, the FinnGen consortium, and the EBI database. The approach of the primary dissection used became the inverse-variance-weighted (IVW) approach, with additional analyses using the MR-PRESSO global test as well as MR-Egger regression with a view to determining horizontal pleiotropy. Heterogeneity was evaluated by means of Cochran's Q test. The study also conducted logistic regression dissection for the sake of investigating the correlation between cardiovascular events and serum BCAAs in the UK biobank cohort study. Results: In this study, it was found that individuals with a genetic predisposition to more elevated levels for circulating total BCAAs had a higher hazard of peripheral arterial disease (OR 1.400, 95% CI 1.063, 1.844; p = 0.017) in addition to stroke (OR 1.266, 95% CI 1.012, 1.585; p = 0.039); circulating valine casually increased the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (OR 1.760, 95% CI 1.116, 2.776; p = 0.015), along with stroke (OR 1.269, 95% CI 1.079, 1.492; p = 0.004); genetically predicted isoleucine showed a positive association with peripheral arterial disease (OR 1.466, 95% CI 1.044, 2.058; p = 0.027), along with cardioembolic stroke (OR 1.547, 95% CI 1.126, 2.124; p = 0.007); furthermore, leucine causally associated with stroke (OR 1.310, 95% CI 1.031, 1.663, p = 0.027). In the UK Biobank cohort study, we detected that total BCAAs (OR: 1.285; 95% CI: 1.009, 1.636), valine (OR: 1.287; 95% CI: 1.009, 1.642), and isoleucine (OR: 1.352; 95% CI: 1.064, 1.718) were independently linked to stroke, but not leucine (OR: 1.146; 95% CI: 0.901, 1.458). No such association was found for BCAAs with peripheral arterial disease and intracerebral hemorrhage in the cohort study. Impairment of vascular endothelial integrity is associated with various vascular diseases. Our previous studies demonstrated that andrographolide is critical to maintaining gastric vascular homeostasis, as well as to regulating pathological vascular remodeling. Potassium dehydroandrograpolide succinate (PDA), a derivative of andrographolide, has been clinically used for the therapeutic treatment of inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to determine whether PDA promotes endothelial barrier repair in pathological vascular remodeling. Partial ligation of the carotid artery in ApoE−/− mice was used to evaluate whether PDA can regulate pathological vascular remodeling. A flow cytometry assay, BRDU incorporation assay, Boyden chamber cell migration assay, spheroid sprouting assay and Matrigel-based tube formation assay were performed to determine whether PDA can regulate the proliferation and motility of HUVEC. A molecular docking simulation and CO-immunoprecipitation assay were performed to observe protein interactions. We observed that PDA induced pathological vascular remodeling characterized by enhanced neointima formation. PDA treatment significantly enhanced the proliferation and migration of vascular endothelial cells. Investigating the potential mechanisms and signaling pathways, we observed that PDA induced endothelial NRP1 expression and activated the VEGF signaling pathway. Knockdown of NRP1 using siRNA transfection attenuated PDA-induced VEGFR2 expression. The interaction between NRP1 and VEGFR2 caused VE-Cad-dependent endothelial barrier impairment, which was characterized by enhanced vascular inflammation. As high-resolution global coverage cannot easily be achieved by direct bathymetry, the use of gravity data is an alternative method to predict seafloor topography. Currently, the commonly used algorithms for predicting seafloor topography are mainly based on the approximate linear relationship between topography and gravity anomaly. In actual application, it is also necessary to process the corresponding data according to some empirical methods, which can cause uncertainty in predicting topography. In this paper, we established analytical observation equations between the gravity anomaly and topography, and obtained the corresponding iterative solving method based on the least square method after linearizing the equations. Furthermore, the regularization method and piecewise bilinear interpolation function are introduced into the observation equations to effectively suppress the high-frequency effect of the boundary sea region and the low-frequency effect of the far sea region. Finally, the seafloor topography beneath a sea region (117.25°–118.25°E, 13.85°–14.85°N) in the South China Sea is predicted as an actual application, where gravity anomaly data of the study area with a resolution of 1′ × 1′ are from the DTU17 model. Comparing the prediction results with the data of ship soundings from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), the root-mean-square (RMS) error and relative error can be up to 127.4 m and approximately 3.4%, respectively. Aims: To investigate whether renal pathology is an independent predictor for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in diabetic kidney diseases (DKD) with nephrotic range proteinuria. Methods: A total of 199 DKD patients with nephrotic range proteinuria underwent renal biopsy and were divided into an ESRD group and a non-ESRD group. A Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to compare renal survival rate, and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses were used to determine the predictors of the ESRD. Results: The mean age of included patients was 51.49 ± 9.12 years and 113 patients (56.8%) progressed to ESRD. The median follow-up period was 16 (12–28) months. The glomerular pathology class III is the most common type (54.3%). In the Kaplan–Meier analysis, compared with patients without ESRD, patients with ESRD had a longer duration of diabetes (≥6 years), lower eGFR (<60 mL/min/1.73 m2), lower albumin (<30 g/L), lower hemoglobin (<120 g/L), and a higher grade of glomerular stage (class III + IV vs. class I + II) (p < 0.05). The hemoglobin and e-GFR, but not the histopathological damage, were significantly associated with a higher risk of ESRD in both the univariate and multivariate Cox analyses. Conclusions: In patients with diabetic kidney disease characterized by nephrotic range proteinuria, histopathological damage (glomerular alterations, interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA), interstitial inflammation, and arteriolar hyalinosis) is not associated with poor renal outcomes, but hemoglobin and e-GFR could predict poor renal outcomes. Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a fine-grained sentiment analysis task that mainly judges the polarity of a given aspect word in a review. Current methods mainly use graph networks to do aspect-level sentiment classification tasks, most of which use syntactic or semantic graphs, and utilize attention mechanisms to interact and correlate aspect terms and contexts to obtain more useful feature representations. However, these methods may ignore some insignificant syntactic structures and some implicit information in some sentences. The attention mechanism then easily loses the original information, which eventually leads to inaccurate sentiment analysis. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a model based on residual attention gating and three-channel graph convolutional network (RAG-TCGCN). Firstly, the model uses a three-channel network composed of syntactic information, semantic information, and public information to simultaneously optimize and fuse through the multi-head attention mechanism to solve the problem of sentences without significant syntactic structure and with implicit information. Through the residual attention gating mechanism the problem of loss of original information is solved. (1) Background: Continuous monitoring of tacrolimus (TAC), mycophenolic acid (MPA), and creatinine (Cre) after renal transplantation is vitally important. In this study, we developed a new method based on volumetric absorptive microsampling (VAMS) combined with Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to simultaneously quantify three analytes including TAC, MPA, and Cre in whole blood. (2) Methods: The VAMS-based UPLC-MS/MS assay used a shared extraction and a single injection to simultaneously quantify the included TAC, MPA, and Cre. Development and validation were carried out following the Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency guidelines for the validation of bioanalytical methods. Moreover, clinical validation for the three analytes was performed in both dried blood spot (DBS) and VAMS. Furthermore, a willingness survey was conducted using the system usability scale (SUS) for renal transplant recipients. (3) Results: The assay was successfully validated for all analytes. No interference, carryover, or matrix effects were observed, and extraction recoveries and process efficiencies were >90.00%. Analysis was unaffected by hematocrit (0.20~0.60, L/L) and anticoagulants (EDTA-2K). Dried VAMS samples were stable for 7 days at ambient temperature and stable for at least 1 month at −20 °C. During clinical validation, the measured TAC, corrected MPA, and Cre concentrations of VAMS samples met the analytical standards (95.00%, 88.57%, and 92.50%). When more stringent clinical acceptance criteria were set, the results obtained by VAMS (90.00%, 71.43%, and 85.00%) better than DBS (77.50%, 62.86%, and 70.00%). Compared with DBS, the survey found that renal transplant recipients are more inclined to use VAMS. (4) Conclusions: A robust extraction and UPLC-MS/MS analysis method in VAMS tips was developed and fully validated for the simultaneous quantification of TAC, MPA, and Cre concentrations. This method provides analytical support for the one-sample remote monitoring of both immunosuppressive drug concentrations and renal function in allo-renal recipients. Based on the good consistency between this method and the routine detection of venous blood samples and higher patient satisfaction than DBS, we believe that VAMS sampling can be a better alternative to venous whole-blood sampling. Kinesin, as a member of the molecular motor protein superfamily, plays an essential function in various plants' developmental processes. Especially at the early stages of plant growth, including influences on plants' growth rate, yield, and quality. In this study, we did a genome-wide identification and expression profile analysis of the kinesin family in barley. Forty-two HvKINs were identified and screened from the barley genome, and a generated phylogenetic tree was used to compare the evolutionary relationships between Rice and Arabidopsis. The protein structure prediction, physicochemical properties, and bioinformatics of the HvKINs were also dissected. Our results reveal the important regulatory roles of HvKIN genes in barley growth. The localization of lipoprotein (Lol) system is responsible for the transport of lipoproteins in the outer membrane (OM) of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. LolB catalyzes the last step in the Lol system, where lipoproteins are inserted into the OM. If the function of LolB is impeded, growth of V. parahaemolyticus is inhibited, due to lack of an intact OM barrier for protection against the external environment. Additionally, it becomes progressively harder to generate antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In this study, LolB was employed as the receptor for a high-throughput virtual screening from a natural compounds database. Compounds with higher glide score were selected for an inhibition assay against V. parahaemolyticus. It was found that procyanidin, stevioside, troxerutin and rutin had both exciting binding affinity with LolB in the micromolar range and preferable antibacterial activity in a concentration-dependent manner. The inhibition rates of 100 ppm were 87.89%, 86.2%, 91.39% and 83.71%, respectively. The bacteriostatic mechanisms of the four active compounds were explored further via fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular docking, illustrating that each molecule formed a stable complex with LolB via hydrogen bonds and pi–pi stacking interactions. Additionally, the critical sites for interaction with V. parahaemolyticus LolB, Tyr108 and Gln68, were also illustrated. This paper demonstrates the inhibition of LolB, thus, leading to antibacterial activity, and identifies LolB as a promising drug target for the first time. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic coronavirus has put a lot of pressure on health systems around the world. One of the most common ways to detect COVID-19 is to use chest X-ray images, which have the advantage of being cheap and fast. However, in the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak, most studies applied pretrained convolutional neural network (CNN) models, and the features produced by the last convolutional layer were directly passed into the classification head. In this study, the proposed ensemble model consists of three lightweight networks, Xception, MobileNetV2 and NasNetMobile as three original feature extractors, and then three base classifiers are obtained by adding the coordinated attention module, LSTM and a new classification head to the original feature extractors. The classification results from the three base classifiers are then fused by a confidence fusion method. Three publicly available chest X-ray datasets for COVID-19 testing were considered, with ternary (COVID-19, normal and other pneumonia) and quaternary (COVID-19, normal) analyses performed on the first two datasets, bacterial pneumonia and viral pneumonia classification, and achieved high accuracy rates of 95.56% and 91.20%, respectively. The third dataset was used to compare the performance of the model compared to other models and the generalization ability on different datasets. We performed a thorough ablation study on the first dataset to understand the impact of each proposed component. Finally, we also performed visualizations. These saliency maps not only explain key prediction decisions of the model, but also help radiologists locate areas of infection. Lobeline is an alkaloid derived from the leaves of an Indian tobacco plant (Lobelia inflata), which has been prepared by chemical synthesis. It is classified as a partial nicotinic agonist and has a long history of therapeutic usage ranging from emetic and respiratory stimulant to tobacco smoking cessation agent. The presence of both cis and trans isomers in lobeline is well known, and many studies on the relationship between the structure and pharmacological activity of lobeline and its analogs have been reported. However, it is a remarkable fact that no studies have reported the differences in pharmacological activities between the two isomers. In this article, we found that different degrees of isomerization of lobeline injection have significant differences in respiratory excitatory effects in pentobarbital sodium anesthetized rats. Compared with cis-lobeline injections, the respiratory excitatory effect was significantly reduced by 50.2% after administration of injections which contained 36.9% trans-lobeline. The study on the influencing factors of isomerization between two isomers shown that this isomerization was a one-way isomerism and only converted from cis to trans, where temperature was the catalytic factor and pH was the key factor. This study reports a new discovery. Despite the widespread use of ventilators, first-aid medicines such as nikethamide and lobeline has retired to second line, but as a nonselective antagonist with high affinity for a4b2 and a3b2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). In recent years, lobeline has shown great promise as a therapeutic drug for mental addiction and nervous system disorders, such as depression, Alzheimer disease and Parkinson disease. In this work, a facile direct current atmospheric pressure micro-plasma (APM) technology was deployed for the synthesis of functional gold nanoparticle/chitosan (AuNP/CS) nanocomposites for the first time. Different experimental parameters, such as metal salt precursor concentration and chitosan viscosity, have been investigated to understand their effects on the resulting nanocomposite structures and properties. The nanocomposites were fully characterized using a wide range of material characterization techniques such as UV–vis, transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. Potential reaction pathways have been proposed for the nanocomposite synthesis process. Finally, potential of the synthesized nanocomposites towards photothermal conversion and bacteria eradiation applications has been demonstrated. The results show that APM is a facile, rapid and versatile technique for the synthesis of AuNP/CS functional nanocomposites. Through this work, a more in-depth understanding of the multi-phase system (consisting of gas, plasma, liquid and solid) has been established and such understanding could shine a light on the future design and fabrication of new functional nanocomposites deploying the APM technique. Neonicotinoids are important insecticides for controlling aphids in agriculture. Growing research suggested that neonicotinoid insecticides are a key factor causing the decline of global pollinator insects, such as bees. Flupyrimin (FLP) is a novel nicotinic insecticide with unique biological properties and no cross-resistance, and is safe for pollinators. Using FLP as the lead compound, a series of novel compounds were designed and synthesized by replacing the amide fragment with a sulfonamideone. Their structures were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS spectra. Bioassay results showed that compound 2j had good insecticidal activity against Aphis glycines with an LC50 value of 20.93 mg/L. Meanwhile, compound 2j showed significantly lower acute oral and contact toxicity to Apis mellifera. In addition, compound 2j interacted well with the protein in insect acetylcholine binding protein (AChBP). The molecular docking on honeybee nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) indicated that the sulfonamide group of compound 2j did not form a hydrogen bond with Arg173 of the β subunit, which conforms to the reported low bee-toxicity conformation. In order to obtain a thermostable pectate lyase for ramie degumming, a rational design based on structural analysis was carried out on a novel pectate lyase (Pel419) derived from the Dickeya Dadantii DCE-01 for high-efficiency ramie degumming. A total of five potential amino acid sites were chosen to replace residues. Then, the mutant enzymes were subjected to the heterologous expressions in Escherichia coli and their enzymatic characteristics were determined. The optimal reaction temperature for the five mutants kept consistent with that for the wild type. The enzyme activity and thermal stability of mutant V52A were significantly improved. Meanwhile, the weight loss rate obtained by V52A with the best enzymatic characteristics in the ramie degumming process at 50 °C is comparable with that obtained by commercial cotton-ramie processing pectinases, indicating that V52A was a potential industrial enzyme that could be applied to large-scale ramie degumming. In this study, the biological functions of conservative residues of Pel419 were preliminarily explored. Over the past few decades, enzyme-based green and sustainable chemistry has attracted extensive research attention, which provides a promising alternative to the conventional treatment methods of recalcitrant micropollutants. However, enzyme denaturation and stability loss remain critical challenges for its potential applications in industrial wastewater treatment. In this study, laccase from Trametes versicolor (laccase T.) was cross-linked immobilized by ultraporous alumina (UPA) for the sustainable biodegradation of Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR). Through sequential use of an aminosilane coupling agent (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) and bifunctional cross-linker glutaraldehyde (GA), the synthesized biocatalysts showed better immobilization performances (about 4-fold to physical adsorption). The GA concentration considerably affected the laccase T. cross-linking degree, while the GA post-treatment protocol showed the highest laccase T. immobilization yield with lower activity recovery. Moreover, the biocatalyst stabilities including pH stability, thermal stability, storage stability, and reusability were also studied. Tolerance to broader pH and temperature ranges, better storage stability, good reusability of laccase T. cross-linked UPA(γ) biocatalysts, and their continuous RBRR biodegradation efficiency highlight the potentials of enzyme-based inorganic materials in industrial wastewater treatment, which can broaden our understanding of their practical applications in environmental fields. The growing popularity of quasi-solid-state supercapacitors inevitably leads to the unrestricted consumption of commonly used petroleum-derived polymer electrolytes, causing excessive carbon emissions and resulting in global warming. Also, the porosity and liquid electrolyte uptake of existing polymer membranes are insufficient for well-performed supercapacitors under high current and long cycles. To address these issues, poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a widely applied polymers in biodegradable plastics is employed to fabricate a renewable biocomposite membrane with tunable pores with the help of non-solvent phase inversion method, and a small amount of poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) is introduced as a modifier to interconnect with PLA skeleton for stabilizing the porous structure and optimizing the aperture of the membrane. Owing to easy film-forming and tunable non-solvent ratio, the porous membrane possesses high porosity (ca. 71%), liquid electrolyte uptake (366%), and preferable flexibility endowing the GPE with satisfactory electrochemical stability in coin and flexible supercapacitors after long cycles. The ecological footprint and ecosystem service functions in the northwest arid region of China have their unique characteristics and are limited by natural resources. The coordination level between the pressure of human activities on the ecosystem and the ecosystem service capacity can be objectively reflected on by exploring the coupling coordination relationship between these two aspects. This work used the ecological footprint and Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs models to quantitatively analyze the spatial and temporal variations of the ecological footprint and ecosystem service functions in the Aksu region in Xinjiang. A coupling coordination degree model and spatial autocorrelation analysis were used to assess the coupling coordination level and spatial agglomeration characteristics of the regional ecological footprint and ecosystem service functions. The results showed that the ecological footprint of the Aksu region has been high in the northeast and low in the southwest, with noticeable spatial heterogeneity, from 2005 to 2018. Carbon (66.17%) and cropland (26.64%) are the main contributing factors to the regional ecological footprint. The biocapacity is dominated by cropland, built-up land, and forest land. The ecological footprint and biocapacity showed an increasing trend, ranging from an ecological surplus to an ecological deficit, with a continued ecological deficit. The level of ecosystem service functions in the Aksu region was low, with significant spatial variability. The high values were concentrated in the northern part of the region and the Tarim and Hotan River Basins. The coupling coordination level of the ecological footprint and ecosystem service functions in the Aksu area was high in the north and low in the south. The aforementioned coupling coordination level was dominated by the spatial pattern of the ecosystem service functions and had noticeable spatial agglomeration characteristics. The coupling coordination degree of the ecological footprint and water supply function showed an upward trend. The prediction of marine elements has become increasingly important in the field of marine research. However, time series data in a complex environment vary significantly because they are composed of dynamic changes with multiple mechanisms, causes, and laws. For example, sea surface temperature (SST) can be influenced by ocean currents. Conventional models often focus on capturing the impact of historical data but ignore the spatio–temporal relationships in sea areas, and they cannot predict such widely varying data effectively. In this work, we propose a cyclic evolutionary network model (CENS), an error-driven network group, which is composed of multiple network node units. Different regions of data can be automatically matched to a suitable network node unit for prediction so that the model can cluster the data based on their characteristics and, therefore, be more practical. Experiments were performed on the Bohai Sea and the South China Sea. Firstly, we performed an ablation experiment to verify the effectiveness of the framework of the model. Secondly, we tested the model to predict sea surface temperature, and the results verified the accuracy of CENS. Lastly, there was a meaningful finding that the clustering results of the model in the South China Sea matched the actual characteristics of the continental shelf of the South China Sea, and the cluster had spatial continuity. Sequential change-point detection when the distribution parameters are unknown is a fundamental problem in statistics and machine learning. When the post-change parameters are unknown, we consider a set of detection procedures based on sequential likelihood ratios with non-anticipating estimators constructed using online convex optimization algorithms such as online mirror descent, which provides a more versatile approach to tackling complex situations where recursive maximum likelihood estimators cannot be found. When the underlying distributions belong to a exponential family and the estimators satisfy the logarithm regret property, we show that this approach is nearly second-order asymptotically optimal. This means that the upper bound for the false alarm rate of the algorithm (measured by the average-run-length) meets the lower bound asymptotically up to a log-log factor when the threshold tends to infinity. Our proof is achieved by making a connection between sequential change-point and online convex optimization and leveraging the logarithmic regret bound property of online mirror descent algorithm. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, so it is necessary to identify potential biomarkers for the early diagnosis and prognosis of LUAD. In our study, a gene co-expression network was constructed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) in order to obtain the key modules and genes correlated with LUAD prognosis. Four hub genes (HLF, CHRDL1, SELENBP1, and TMEM163) were screened out using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO)–Cox regression analysis; then, a prognostic model was established for predicting overall survival (OS) based on these four hub genes..Furthermore, the prognostic values of this four-gene signature were verified in four validation sets (GSE26939, GSE31210, GSE72094, and TCGA-LUAD) as well as in the GEPIA database. To assess the prognostic values of hub genes, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed and a nomogram was created. We found that a higher expression of four hub genes was associated with a lower risk of patient death. In a training set, it was demonstrated that this four-gene signature was a better prognostic factor than clinical factors such as age and stage of disease. Moreover, our results revealed that these four genes were suppressor factors of LUAD and that their high expression was associated with a lower risk of death. In summary, we demonstrated that this four-gene signature could be a potential prognostic factor for LUAD patients. Optical properties of wurtzite violet InGaN/GaN quantum well (QW) structures, with the same well-plus-barrier thickness, grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on c-plane sapphire substrates, were investigated using temperature-dependent photoluminescence (TDPL) and excitation-power-dependent photoluminescence (PDPL). Two samples were compared: one had a thicker well (InGaN/GaN 3/5 nm); the other had a thicker barrier (InGaN/GaN 2/6 nm). It was found that the GaN barrier thickness in the InGaN/GaN MQWs plays an important role in determining the optical characteristics of the MQWs. The peak energy of the two samples varied with temperature in an S-shape. The thicker-barrier sample had a higher turning point from blueshift to redshift, indicating a stronger localization effect. From the Arrhenius plot of the normalized integrated PL intensity, it was found that the activation energy of the nonradiative process also increased with a thicker barrier thickness. The radiation recombination process was dominated in the sample of the thicker barrier, while the non-radiation process cannot be negligible in the sample of the thicker well. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common malignancy in children and is characterized by numerous genetic and epigenetic abnormalities. Epigenetic mechanisms, including DNA methylations and histone modifications, result in the heritable silencing of genes without a change in their coding sequence. Emerging studies are increasing our understanding of the epigenetic role of leukemogenesis and have demonstrated the potential of DNA methylations and histone modifications as a biomarker for lineage and subtypes classification, predicting relapse, and disease progression in acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Epigenetic abnormalities are relatively reversible when treated with some small molecule-based agents compared to genetic alterations. In this review, we conclude the genetic and epigenetic characteristics in ALL and discuss the future role of DNA methylation and histone modifications in predicting relapse, finally focus on the individual and precision therapy targeting epigenetic alterations. To improve the thermal stability of pectate lyase for ramie degumming, we modified the novel pectate lyase gene (pelG403) derived from the Dickeya dadantii DCE-01 high-efficiency ramie degumming strain by site-directed mutagenesis. Twelve mutants were acquired, wherein a prospective mutant (A129V) showed better enzyme activity and thermal stability. Compared with the wild type (PelG403), the specific enzyme activity and the optimal reaction temperature of A129V in the fermentation broth increased by 20.1%, and 5 °C, respectively. Under the conditions of 55 °C and pH 9.0, the weightlessness rate of ramie raw materials of A129V increased by 6.26%. Therefore, this study successfully improved the enzyme activity and heat resistance of PelG403 in an alkaline environment, which may contribute to the development of enzyme preparations and the elucidation of the mechanism for ramie bio-degumming. Prostate cancer (PCa) is a carcinoma in which fatty acids are abundant. Fatty acid metabolism is rewired during PCa development. Although PCa can be treated with hormone therapy, after prolonged treatment, castration-resistant prostate cancer can develop and can lead to increased mortality. Changes to fatty acid metabolism occur systemically and locally in prostate cancer patients, and understanding these changes may lead to individualized treatments, especially in advanced, castration-resistant prostate cancers. The fatty acid metabolic changes are not merely reflective of oncogenic activity, but in many cases, these represent a critical factor in cancer initiation and development. In this review, we analyzed the literature regarding systemic changes to fatty acid metabolism in PCa patients and how these changes relate to obesity, diet, circulating metabolites, and peri-prostatic adipose tissue. We also analyzed cellular fatty acid metabolism in prostate cancer, including fatty acid uptake, de novo lipogenesis, fatty acid elongation, and oxidation. Simple Summary: The resistance mechanism of hormonal therapy has been a long-sought-after but not-yet-understood research topic in the prostate cancer (PCa) field. Here, we provide new mechanistic insights into how long-chain fatty acid contributes to enzalutamide resistance of prostate cancer. We demonstrated that ELOLV5-mediated polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) upregulation and the lipid raft-derived activation of AKT-mTOR pathway drives the therapy resistance and neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) of prostate cancer. Thus, ELOVL5 could be a potential candidate for therapeutically targeting the therapy-resistant NE-like PCa. Prostate cancer (PCa) exhibits an elevated level of de novo lipogenesis that provides both energy and basic metabolites for its malignant development. Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are elongated and desaturated from palmitate but their effects on PCa progression remain largely unknown. Here, we showed that PUFAs were significantly upregulated by androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and elevated in neuroendocrine (NE)-like PCa cells. The key enzyme of PUFA elongation, ELOVL5, was overexpressed in NE-like PCa cells as well. Furthermore, we demonstrated that knocking down ELOVL5 in enzalutamide resistant NE-like PCa cells diminished the neuroendocrine phenotypes and enzalutamide resistance, while overexpressing ELOVL5 augmented the enzalutamide resistance of PCa cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, ELOVL5-mediated PUFA elongation enhanced the lipid raft-associated AKT-mTOR signaling activation and therefore contributes to the enzalutamide resistance. Simple Summary: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most common malignancy in males globally. Although PSA screening is a milestone in PCa detection, it also causes overdiagnosis and subsequent overtreatment. Therefore, it is imperative to find an optimal replacement or supplement for PSA testing to increase the detection rate of clinically significant PCa as well as reduce unnecessary biopsies. Here, we aimed at developing and validating a novel noninvasive urinary exosome-based post-DRE lncRNA assay to diagnose PCa and clinically significant PCa at initial prostate biopsy. We found that the lncRNA assay had a significant clinical value in diagnosing PCa and clinically significant PCa compared to the current clinical parameters. These results suggest that this novel lncRNA assay developed in this study could be a valuable biomarker to increase the detection rate of clinically significant PCa as well as reduce unnecessary biopsies. Purpose: This study aimed at developing and validating a novel noninvasive urinary exosome-based post-DRE (digital rectal examination) lncRNA assay to diagnose PCa (prostate cancer) and clinically significant PCa (Gleason score ≥ 7) from the initial prostate biopsy. Methods: A total of 602 urine samples from eligible participants were collected. The expression levels of urinary exosomal PCA3 (prostate cancer antigen 3) and MALAT1 (metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1) were detected by qPCR (quantitative real-time PCR). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was applied to evaluate the diagnostic performance of PCA3, MALAT1 and the lncRNA assay. A decision curve analysis (DCA) and waterfall plots were used to assess the clinical value of the lncRNA assay. Results: Urinary exosomal PCA3 and MALAT1 were overexpressed in PCa and clinically significant PCa (p < 0.001). The lncRNA assay combining PCA3 and MALAT1 had a better diagnostic performance (AUC 0.828) than the current clinical parameters in detecting PCa. More importantly, the lncRNA assay yielded an AUC of 0.831 to detect clinically significant PCa, which is much higher than that of the current clinical parameters. The lncRNA assay was superior to PSA, f/tPSA and the base model for detecting PCa and clinically significant PCa, with a higher net benefit for almost all threshold probabilities. At the cutoff value of 95% sensitivity, the lncRNA assay could avoid 24.2% unnecessary biopsies while only missing 1.2% of the cases of clinically significant PCa. Conclusion: We developed and validated a novel noninvasive post-DRE urine-based lncRNA assay that presented good diagnostic power and clinical utility for the early diagnosis of PCa and high-grade PCa. In this study, ultraporous aluminas (UPA) were synthesized as new effective adsorbents for Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) removal from aqueous solutions. The UPA monoliths were grown via facile oxidation process, followed by isochronous annealing treatment in air at different temperatures, through which γ, θ, and α phase polycrystalline fibrous grains of UPA can be accordingly obtained. The experimental factors that affect the material adsorption performances including initial pH, contact time, and temperature were comprehensively studied by batch experiments. The RBBR adsorption isotherms of UPA(γ) and UPA(θ) powders were found almost identical, while UPA(α) powders showed low effectiveness. To obtain the desirable mechanical stability of the UPA monolith with considerable RBBR adsorption capacity, UPA(θ) powders were further studied. The UPA(θ) powders exhibited maximum RBBR adsorption at pH 2 due to the positively charged surface under acidic conditions. Compared with the Lagergren pseudo-first-order model, the pseudo-second-order model was found to explain the adsorption kinetics better. Despite the film diffusion dominating the adsorption process, the contributions of the intraparticle diffusion and chemical reactions were also found significant. The adsorption equilibrium data at different temperatures were fitted by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) isotherm models. The Langmuir model was found the most effective in the description of equilibrium data, and the maximum RBBR adsorption capacity retained by UPA(θ) powders was 122.55 mg·g−1 at 295 K. Understanding the aging mechanism of polypropylene (PP) is fundamental for the fabrication and application of PP-based materials. In this paper, we present our study in which we first used reactive molecular dynamics (RMD) simulations to explore the thermo-oxidative aging of PP in the presence of acetic acid or acetone. We studied the effects of temperature and oxygen on the aging process and discussed the formation pathways of typical small molecule products (H2, CO, CO2, CH4, C2H4, and C2H6). The effect of two infection agents, acetic acid and acetone, on the aging reaction was analyzed emphatically. The simulation results showed that acetone has a weak impact on accelerating the aging process, while acetic acid has a significant effect, consistent with previous experimental studies. By tracking the simulation trajectories, both acetic acid and acetone produced small active free radicals to further react with other fragment products, thus accelerating the aging process. The first reaction step of acetic acid is often the shedding of the H atom on the hydroxyl group, while the reaction of acetone is often the shedding of the H atom or the methyl. The latter requires higher energy at lower temperatures. This is why the acceleration effect of acetone for the thermo-oxidative aging of PP was not so significant compared to acetic acid in the experimental temperature (383.15 K). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Closely related species have similar reproductive behaviors and recognition systems, which contribute to interspecific interactions. However, few studies have explored interspecific reproduction choice and mating in termites. We investigated whether hybridization between two sympatric termites, Reticulitermes flaviceps and R. chinensis, occurs under laboratory conditions. We found that frequencies of acceptance were significantly higher than those of agonism between interspecific partners. There were no significant differences in frequencies of tandem and mating behaviors between intraspecific and interspecific partners. However, the allogrooming frequencies of interspecific partners were significantly higher than intraspecific partners. There were no significant differences in the duration of tandem, allogrooming, or mating behavior at each time between conspecific partners and heterospecfic partners. Genotyping analyses further showed that both intraspecific and interspecific mating were able to produce offspring. We conclude that interspecific hybridization does occur between two termite Reticulitermes species under laboratory conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adiponectin is an adipokine with anti-insulin resistance and anti-inflammatory functions. It exists in serum predominantly in three multimeric complexes: the trimer, hexamer, and high-molecular-weight forms. Although recent studies indicate that adiponectin promotes wound healing in rodents, its role in the wound healing process in humans is unknown. This study investigated the expression levels of adiponectin in adipose tissue and serum of women who experienced either normal or delayed wound healing after abdominal plastic surgery. We found that obese women with delayed healing had slightly lower total adiponectin levels in their adipose tissue compared with women with normal healing rates. Among the different isoforms of adiponectin, levels of the trimer forms were significantly reduced in adipose tissue, but not the serum, of obese women with delayed healing compared to women who healed normally. This study provides clinical evidence for a potential role of low-molecular-weight oligomers of adiponectin in the wound healing process as well as implications for an autocrine and/or paracrine mechanism of adiponectin action in adipose tissues. Previous research on financial time-series data mainly focused on the analysis of market evolution and trends, ignoring its characteristics in different resolutions and stages. This paper discusses the evolution characteristics of the financial market in different resolutions, and presents a method of complex network analysis based on wavelet transform. The analysis method has proven the linkage effects of the plate sector in China's stock market and has that found plate drift phenomenon occurred before and after the stock market crash. In addition, we also find two different evolutionary trends, namely the W-type and M-type trends. The discovery of linkage plate and drift phenomena are important and referential for enterprise investors to build portfolio investment strategy, and play an important role for policy makers in analyzing evolution characteristics of the stock market. In China, a traditional perspective recommended that consuming seafood should be mixed or matched with vinegar, because people thought this traditional Chinese eating habit could reduce the risk of pathogenic microorganism infection, such as Vibrio parahaemolyticus induced diarrhea. However, this empirical viewpoint has not yet been evaluated scientifically. This study conducted a simplified quantitative microbiological risk assessment (QMRA) model, which was employed to estimate the risk reduction of V. parahaemolyticus on ready-to-eat (RTE) shrimp by consuming with vinegars (white vinegar, aromatic vinegar, or mature vinegar). Results showed the reduction of V. parahaemolyticus density on RTE shrimp after consuming with white vinegar, aromatic vinegar and mature vinegar was respectively 0.9953 log CFU/g (90% confidence interval 0.23 to 1.76), 0.7018 log CFU/g (90% confidence interval 0.3430 to 1.060) and 0.6538 log CFU/g (90% confidence interval 0.346 to 0.9620). The infection risk of V. parahaemolyticus per meal in this QMRA model was quantified by a mean of 0.1250 with the standard deviation of 0.2437. After consuming with white vinegar, aromatic vinegar, and mature vinegar, the mean infection risk of V. parahaemolyticus on shrimp decreased to 0.0478, 0.0652, and 0.0686. The QMRA scenarios indicated significant reductions in infection risk when eating RTE shrimp by the Chinese eating habit (consuming with vinegar). This good eating habit should be recommended to promote the spread of around the world.

At present, free-to-move node self-deployment algorithms aim at event coverage and cannot improve network coverage under the premise of considering network connectivity, network reliability and network deployment energy consumption. Thus, this study proposes pigeon-based self-deployment algorithm (PSA) for underwater wireless sensor networks to overcome the limitations of these existing algorithms. In PSA, the sink node first finds its one-hop nodes and maximizes the network coverage in its one-hop region. The one-hop nodes subsequently divide the network into layers and cluster in each layer. Each cluster head node constructs a connected path to the sink node to guarantee network connectivity. Finally, the cluster head node regards the ratio of the movement distance of the node to the change in the coverage redundancy ratio as the target function and employs pigeon swarm optimization to determine the positions of the nodes. Simulation results show that PSA improves both network connectivity and network reliability, decreases network deployment energy consumption, and increases network coverage.

Aimed at the limited energy of nodes in underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) and the heavy load of cluster heads in clustering routing algorithms, this paper proposes a dynamic layered dual-cluster routing algorithm based on Krill Herd optimization in UWSNs. Cluster size is first decided by the distance between the cluster head nodes and sink node, and a dynamic layered mechanism is established to avoid the repeated selection of the same cluster head nodes. Using Krill Herd optimization algorithm selects the optimal and second optimal cluster heads, and its Lagrange model directs nodes to a high likelihood area. It ultimately realizes the functions of data collection and data transition. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively decrease cluster energy consumption, balance the network energy consumption, and prolong the network lifetime., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

Plasticized polylactide (PLA) with increased crystallization ability and prolonged life-span in practical applications due to the minimal plasticizer migration was prepared. Branched plasticized PLA was successfully obtained by coupling poly(butylene succinate-co-adipate) (PBSA) to crotonic acid (CA) functionalized PLA. The plasticization behavior of PBSA coupled PLA (PLA-CA-PBSA) and its counterpart PBSA blended PLA (PLA/PBSA) were fully elucidated. For both PLA-CA-PBSA and PLA/PBSA, a decrease of T g to around room temperature and an increase in the elongation at break of PLA from 14% to 165% and 460%, respectively, were determined. The crystallinity was increased from 2.1% to 8.4% for PLA/PBSA and even more, to 10.6%, for PLA-CA-PBSA. Due to the inherent poor miscibility between the PBSA and PLA, phase separation occurred in the blend, while PLA-CA-PBSA showed no phase separation which, together with the higher crystallinity, led to better oxygen barrier properties compared to neat PLA and PLA/PBSA. A higher resistance to migration during hydrolytic degradation for the PLA-CA-PBSA compared to the PLA/PBSA indicated that the plasticization effect of PBSA in the coupled material would be retained for a longer time period.

Diacylglycerol (DAG)-like lipases are found to play an important role in the life sciences and industrial fields. A putative DAG-like lipase (MgMDL2) from Malassezia globosa was cloned and expressed in recombinant Pichia pastoris. The recombinant MgMDL2 was expressed as a glycosylated protein and purified into homogeneity by anion exchange chromatography. The activity of recombinant MgMDL2 was optimal at 15 °C and pH 6.0, and it keeps over 50% of relative activity at 5 °C, suggesting that MgMDL2 was a cold active lipase. MgMDL2 retained over 80% of initial activity after incubation at 30 and 40 °C for 2.5 h, but it was not stable at 50 °C. Incubation of methanol and ethanol at a concentration of 30% for 2 h did not affect the recombinant enzyme activity, while metal ions, including Ca2+, Mn2+ and Ni2+, sharply inhibited the MgMDL2 activity at 5 mM by 42%, 35% and 36%, respectively. MgMDL2 exhibited a preference for medium chain-length esters with highest activity toward p-nitrophenyl caprylate, while it was active on mono- and diacylglycerol but not on triacylglycerol, indicating that it was a typical DAG-like lipase. By homology modeling, Phe278 was predicted to be involved in the preference of MgMDL2 for monoacyl- and diacyl-glyceride substrates, but not triglycerides.
