Objective: Motivated by Health Care 4.0, this study aims to reducing the dimensionality of traditional EEG features based on manual extracted features, including statistical features in the time and frequency domains. Methods: A total of 22 multi-scale features were extracted from the UNM and Iowa datasets using a 4th order Butterworth filter and wavelet packet transform. Based on single-channel validation, 29 channels with the highest R2 scores were selected from a pool of 59 common channels. The proposed channel selection scheme was validated on the UNM dataset and tested on the Iowa dataset to compare its generalizability against models trained without channel selection. Results: The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves an optimal classification accuracy of 100%. Additionally, the generalization capability of the channel selection method is validated through out-of-sample testing based on the Iowa dataset Conclusions: Using single-channel validation, we proposed a channel selection scheme based on traditional statistical features, resulting in a selection of 29 channels. This scheme significantly reduced the dimensionality of EEG feature vectors related to Parkinson's disease by 50%. Remarkably, this approach demonstrated considerable classification performance on both the UNM and Iowa datasets. Calcium titanium oxide has emerged as a highly promising material for optoelectronic devices, with recent studies suggesting its potential for favorable thermoelectric properties. However, current experimental observations indicate a low thermoelectric performance, with a significant gap between these observations and theoretical predictions. Therefore, this study employs a combined approach of experiments and simulations to thoroughly investigate the impact of structural and directional differences on the thermoelectric properties of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) metal halide perovskites. Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) metal halide perovskites constitute the focus of examination in this study, where an in-depth exploration of their thermoelectric properties is conducted via a comprehensive methodology incorporating simulations and experimental analyses. The non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation (NEMD) was utilized to calculate the thermal conductivity of the perovskite material. Thermal conductivities along both in-plane and out-plane directions of 2D perovskite were computed. The NEMD simulation results show that the thermal conductivity of the 3D perovskite is approximately 0.443 W/mK, while the thermal conductivities of the parallel and vertical oriented 2D perovskites increase with n and range from 0.158 W/mK to 0.215 W/mK and 0.289 W/mK to 0.309 W/mK, respectively. Hence, the thermal conductivity of the 2D perovskites is noticeably lower than the 3D ones. Furthermore, the parallel oriented 2D perovskites exhibit more effective blocking of heat transfer behavior than the perpendicular oriented ones. The experimental results reveal that the Seebeck coefficient of the 2D perovskites reaches 3.79 × 102 µV/K. However, the electrical conductivity of the 2D perovskites is only 4.55 × 10−5 S/cm, which is one order of magnitude lower than that of the 3D perovskites. Consequently, the calculated thermoelectric figure of merit for the 2D perovskites is approximately 1.41 × 10−7, slightly lower than that of the 3D perovskites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most prevalent dementia in the world. Wearable technology has been useful in the computer-aided diagnosis and long-term monitoring of PD in recent years. The fundamental issue remains how to assess the severity of PD using wearable devices in an efficient and accurate manner. However, in the real-world free-living environment, there are two difficult issues, poor annotation and class imbalance, both of which could potentially impede the automatic assessment of PD. To address these challenges, we propose a novel framework for assessing the severity of PD patient's in a free-living environment. Specifically, we use clustering methods to learn latent categories from the same activities, while latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic models are utilized to capture latent features from multiple activities. Then, to mitigate the impact of data imbalance, we augment bag-level data while retaining key instance prototypes. To comprehensively demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed framework, we collected a dataset containing wearable-sensor signals from 83 individuals in real-life free-living conditions. The experimental results show that our framework achieves an astounding 73.48% accuracy in the fine-grained (normal, mild, moderate, severe) classification of PD severity based on hand movements. In this work, a novel numerical method for studying the influence of gas types on drag reduction by microbubble injection is presented. Aimed at the microbubble drag reduction (MBDR) process for different types of gases, the mass transfer velocity of different types of gases in the gas–liquid phase is defined by writing a user-defined function (UDF), which reflected the influence of gas solubility on the drag reduction rate. An Eulerian multiphase flow model and the Realizable k − ε turbulence model are used for numerical calculation. The population balance model is used to describe the coalescence and breakup phenomena of the microbubble groups. Henry's theorem is used to calculate the equilibrium concentration of the microbubble mixed flow. The interphase mass transfer rate of the microbubble injection process for different types of gases is studied by using permeation theory. The local mass fraction of the mixed flow is solved by the component transport equation. It is found that the larger the solubility of the gas, the lower the efficiency of MBDR. When the volume flow rate of the same type of gas is the same but the injection speed is different, the larger the solubility of the gas is, the greater the difference in the drag reduction ratio. Prunus cerasifera Ehrhart (P. cerasifera) flourishes uniquely in the arid landscapes of Xinjiang, China. Preliminary studies have revealed the therapeutic potential of its polyphenol extract (PPE) in mitigating liver lipid accumulation in mice fed a high-fat diet. We established a mouse model that was subjected to a continuous high-fat diet for 24 weeks and administered PPE to investigate the effects of PPE on cholesterol and BA metabolism in NAFLD mice. The results showed that PPE administration (200 and 400 mg/kg/day, BW) led to a reduction in liver TC, an increase in liver T-BAs, and normalization of the disrupted fecal BA profile. Concurrently, it decreased levels of lipotoxic BAs and inhibited hepatic cholesterol synthesis (evidenced by reduced HMGCR activity) and intestinal cholesterol absorption (indicated by lower ACAT2 levels) while enhancing intestinal cholesterol efflux (via LXRα, ABCA1, ABCG5, and ABCG8) and stimulating hepatic BA synthesis (CYP7A1, CYP27A1) and secretion (BSEP). PPE thus led to a significant reduction in lipotoxic BAs metabolized by gut microbiota and a downregulation of the BA secretion pathway under its influence. Our findings reveal the therapeutic effect of PPE on NAFLD mice via regulating cholesterol and BA metabolism, providing a theoretical basis for exploring the potential functions of P. cerasifera. In this study, robust composite solid electrolytes were developed and employed to enhance the performance of Li-metal batteries significantly. The robust composite solid electrolytes are composed of a soft polymer, poly(ethylene oxide), a Li salt, bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), and super ionic conductive ceramic fillers such as Li1.5Al0.5Ti1.5(PO4)3 (LATP), and Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO). The main goal of this study is to enhance the electrochemical stability and ionic conductivity. The ionic conductivities of the composite solid electrolytes were found to be 2.08 × 10−4 and 1.64 × 10−4 S cm−1 with the introduction of LATP and LLZTO fillers, respectively. The results prove that the fabricated solid electrolyte was electrochemical stable at voltage exceeding 4.25 V vs. Li/Li+. The internal resistance of the solid electrolyte significantly reduced compared to gel electrolyte. This reduction can be attributed to the alleviation of bulk electrolyte, charge-transfer, and interfacial electrolyte/electrode impedance. When LiFePO4 cathode sheets are coated with a composite solid electrolyte containing LATP powders, the resulting Li-metal battery displays high capacity at 5 C (with a capacity retention of 65.2% compared to the original capacity at 0.2 C) as well as superior cyclic stability and excellent Coulombic efficiency (>99.5%, 200 cycles). These results confirm that the composite solid electrolyte acts as a protective layer which has the ability to prevent the growth of Li dendrites. Single-stranded DNA-binding proteins (SSBs) play a crucial role in DNA metabolism by binding and stabilizing single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) intermediates. Through their multifaceted roles in DNA replication, recombination, repair, replication restart, and other cellular processes, SSB emerges as a central player in maintaining genomic integrity. These attributes collectively position SSBs as essential guardians of genomic integrity, establishing interactions with an array of distinct proteins. Unlike Escherichia coli, which contains only one type of SSB, some bacteria have two paralogous SSBs, referred to as SsbA and SsbB. In this study, we identified Staphylococcus aureus SsbA (SaSsbA) as a fresh addition to the roster of the anticancer drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) binding proteins, thereby expanding the ambit of the 5-FU interactome to encompass this DNA replication protein. To investigate the binding mode, we solved the complexed crystal structure with 5-FU at 2.3 Å (PDB ID 7YM1). The structure of glycerol-bound SaSsbA was also determined at 1.8 Å (PDB ID 8GW5). The interaction between 5-FU and SaSsbA was found to involve R18, P21, V52, F54, Q78, R80, E94, and V96. Based on the collective results from mutational and structural analyses, it became evident that SaSsbA's mode of binding with 5-FU diverges from that of SaSsbB. This complexed structure also holds the potential to furnish valuable comprehension regarding how 5-FU might bind to and impede analogous proteins in humans, particularly within cancer-related signaling pathways. Leveraging the information furnished by the glycerol and 5-FU binding sites, the complexed structures of SaSsbA bring to the forefront the potential viability of several interactive residues as potential targets for therapeutic interventions aimed at curtailing SaSsbA activity. Acknowledging the capacity of microbiota to influence the host's response to 5-FU, there emerges a pressing need for further research to revisit the roles that bacterial and human SSBs play in the realm of anticancer therapy. Water pollution has emerged as a major global environmental crisis due to the massive contamination of water resources by the textile dyeing industry, organic waste, and agricultural residue. Since water is fundamental to life, this grave disregard puts lives at risk, making the protection of water resources a serious issue today. Recent research has shown great interest in improving the photocatalytic performance of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for wastewater treatment. However, the photocatalytic removal activity of pure g-C3N4 is poor, owing to its minimal surface area, fast recombination of photo-generated electron–hole pairs, and poor light absorption. Recently, titanate perovskites (TNPs) have attracted significant attention in both environmental remediation and energy conversion due to their exceptional structural, optical, physiochemical, electrical, and thermal properties. Accordingly, TNPs can initiate a variety of surface catalytic reactions and are regarded as an emerging category of photocatalysts for sustainability and energy-related industries when exposed to illumination. Therefore, in this review article, we critically discuss the recent developments of extensively developed g-C3N4/TNPs that demonstrate photocatalytic applications for wastewater treatment. The different synthetic approaches and the chemical composition of g-C3N4/TNP composites are presented. Additionally, this review highlights the global research trends related to these materials. Furthermore, this review provides insight into the various photocatalytic mechanisms, including their potential impact and significance. Nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (CNDs) were synthesized and utilized as sensing probes to detect different anions and metallic ions within aqueous solutions. The pristine CNDs were developed through a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis. o-Phenylenediamine was used as the precursor. A similar hydrothermal synthesis technique in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) was adopted to form the PEG-coated CND clusters (CND-100k). Through photoluminescence (PL) quenching, both CND and PEG-coated CND suspensions display ultra-high sensitivity and selectivity towards HSO4− anions (Stern–Volmer quenching constant (KSV) value: 0.021 ppm−1 for CND and 0.062 ppm−1 for CND-100k) with an ultra-low detection limit (LOD value: 0.57 ppm for the CND and 0.19 ppm for CND-100k) in the liquid phase. The quenching mechanism of N-doped CNDs towards HSO4− ions involves forming the bidentate as well as the monodentate hydrogen bonding with the sulfate anionic moieties. The detection mechanism of metallic ions analyzed through the Stern–Volmer formulation reveals that the CND suspension is well suited for the detection of Fe3+ (KSV value: 0.043 ppm−1) and Fe2+ (KSV value: 0.0191 ppm−1) ions, whereas Hg2+ (KSV value: 0.078 ppm−1) sensing can be precisely performed by the PEG-coated CND clusters. Accordingly, the CND suspensions developed in this work can be employed as high-performance PL probes for detecting various anions and metallic ions in the liquid phase. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: The purpose of the current study is to survey whether the application of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is associated with the development of open angle glaucoma (OAG) using the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. Our results showed that the prostate cancer with ADT group showed a significantly lower risk of OAG development compared to the control group, while the risk of OAG development in the prostate cancer without ADT group was similar compared to that in the control group. The application of ADT did not lead to higher incidence of subsequent OAG. Patients with known risk factor for OAG may receive the ADT management without increased risk of OAG development. This study aimed to survey the effect of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) on the development of open angle glaucoma (OAG) in prostate cancer using the data from national health insurance research database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. A retrospective cohort study was conducted and patients were regarded as prostate cancer with ADT according to related diagnostic, procedure and medication codes. Each prostate subject with ADT was matched to one patient with prostate cancer, but without ADT, and two participants without both prostate cancer and ADT; 1791, 1791 and 3582 patients were recruited in each group. The primary outcome was set as the OAG development according to related diagnostic codes. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of ADT for the incidence of OAG. There were 145, 65 and 42 newly developed OAG cases in the control group, prostate cancer without ADT group and prostate cancer with ADT group. The prostate cancer with ADT group showed a significantly lower risk of OAG development compared to the control group (aHR: 0.689, 95% CI: 0.489–0.972, p = 0.0341), and the risk of OAG development in the prostate cancer without ADT group was similar compared to that in the control group (aHR: 0.825, 95% CI: 0.613–1.111, p = 0.2052). In addition, ages older than 50 years old would lead to higher incidence of OAG development, respectively. In conclusion, the use of ADT will lead to a similar or lower rate of OAG development. This study proposes the use of an experimental design approach in GSO, and a systematic approach to deal with the hyperparameter settings of GSOs and to provide stable algorithmic performance of GSOs through the experimental design approach. To address these two issues, this study explores the combination of hyperparameters that can improve the performance of GSOs using a uniform design. In addition, the Taguchi method and optimal operations were used to derive an excellent combination of parameters that would provide the best value and robustness of the function to provide a stable performance of GSO. The validity of the performance of the proposed method was tested using ten benchmark functions, including three unimodal, three multimodal, and four restricted multimodal functions. The results were compared with the t-distribution test in addition to the mean and standard deviation to analyze their validity. The results of the t-distribution test showed that the p-values obtained for both UD-GSO and R-GSO were less than 0.05, indicating significant differences compared with GSO for both unimodal and multimodal functions. Two restricted multimodal functions are not significantly different, while the other two are below 0.05, indicating significant differences. This shows that the performance obtained using UD-GSO and R-GSO is more effective than the original GSO. UD-GSO and R-GSO provide better and more robust results than GSO. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. The risk factors for HCC include chronic hepatitis B and C virus infections, excessive alcohol consumption, obesity, metabolic disease, and aflatoxin exposure. In addition to these viral and environmental risk factors, individual genetic predisposition is a major determinant of HCC risk. Familial clustering of HCC has been observed, and a hereditary factor likely contributes to the risk of HCC development. The familial aggregation may depend on a shared environment and genetic background as well as the interactions of environmental and genetic factors. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) are one of the most practical tools for mapping the patterns of inheritance for the most common form of genomic variation, single nucleotide polymorphisms. This approach is practical for investigating genetic variants across the human genome, which is affected by thousands of common genetic variants that do not follow Mendelian inheritance. This review article summarizes the academic knowledge of GWAS-identified genetic loci and their association with HCC. We summarize the GWASs in accordance with various chronic hepatitis virus infection statuses. This genetic profiling could be used to identify candidate biomarkers to refine HCC screening and management by enabling individual risk-based personalization and stratification. A more comprehensive understanding of the genetic mechanisms underlying individual predisposition to HCC may lead to improvements in the prevention and early diagnosis of HCC and the development of effective treatment strategies. Allantoinase (ALLase; EC 3.5.2.5) possesses a binuclear metal center in which two metal ions are bridged by a posttranslationally carbamylated lysine. ALLase acts as a key enzyme for the biogenesis and degradation of ureides by catalyzing the conversion of allantoin into allantoate. Biochemically, ALLase belongs to the cyclic amidohydrolase family, which also includes dihydropyrimidinase, dihydroorotase, hydantoinase (HYDase), and imidase. Previously, the crystal structure of ALLase from Escherichia coli K-12 (EcALLase-K12) was reported; however, the two active site loops crucial for substrate binding were not determined. This situation would limit further docking and protein engineering experiments. Here, we solved the crystal structure of E. coli BL21 ALLase (EcALLase-BL21) at a resolution of 2.07 Å (PDB ID 8HFD) to obtain more information for structural analyses. The structure has a classic TIM barrel fold. As compared with the previous work, the two missed active site loops in EcALLase-K12 were clearly determined in our structure of EcALLase-BL21. EcALLase-BL21 shared active site similarity with HYDase, an important biocatalyst for industrial production of semisynthetic penicillin and cephalosporins. Based on this structural comparison, we discussed the functional role of the two active site loops in EcALLase-BL21 to better understand the substrate/inhibitor binding mechanism for further biotechnological and pharmaceutical applications. Dihydroorotase (DHOase) is the third enzyme in the pathway used for the biosynthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides. In mammals, DHOase is active in a trifunctional enzyme, CAD, which also carries out the activities of carbamoyl phosphate synthetase and aspartate transcarbamoylase. Prior to this study, it was unknown whether the FDA-approved clinical drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which is used as an anticancer therapy, could bind to the DHOase domain of human CAD (huDHOase). Here, we identified huDHOase as a new 5-FU binding protein, thereby extending the 5-FU interactome to this human enzyme. In order to investigate where 5-FU binds to huDHOase, we solved the complexed crystal structure at 1.97 Å (PDB ID 8GVZ). The structure of huDHOase complexed with malate was also determined for the sake of comparison (PDB ID 8GW0). These two nonsubstrate ligands were bound at the active site of huDHOase. It was previously established that the substrate N-carbamoyl-L-aspartate is either bound to or moves away from the active site, but it is the loop that is extended towards (loop-in mode) or moved away (loop-out mode) from the active site. DHOase also binds to nonsubstrate ligands via the loop-out mode. In contrast to the Escherichia coli DHOase model, our complexed structures revealed that huDHOase binds to either 5-FU or malate via the loop-in mode. We further characterized the binding of 5-FU to huDHOase using site-directed mutagenesis and the fluorescence quenching method. Considering the loop-in mode, the dynamic loop in huDHOase should be a suitable drug-targeting site for further designing inhibitors and clinical chemotherapies to suppress pyrimidine biosynthesis in cancer cell lines. H. pylori is responsible for several stomach-related diseases including gastric cancer. The main virulence factor responsible for its establishment in human gastric cells is known as CagA. Therefore, in this study, we have fabricated a highly sensitive MIP-based electrochemical biosensor for the detection of CagA. For this, an rGO and gold-coated, screen-printed electrode sensing platform was designed to provide a surface for the immobilization of a CagA-specific, molecularly imprinted polymer; then it was characterized electrochemically. Interestingly, molecular dynamics simulations were studied to optimize the MIP prepolymerization system, resulting in a well-matched, optimized molar ratio within the experiment. A low binding energy upon template removal indicates the capability of MIP to recognize the CagA antigen through a strong binding affinity. Under the optimized electrochemical experimental conditions, the fabricated CagA-MIP/Au/rGO@SPE sensor exhibited high sensitivity (0.275 µA ng−1 mL−1) and a very low limit of detection (0.05 ng mL−1) in a linear range of 0.05–50 ng mL−1. The use of additive manufactured (AM) titanium-based materials has increased substantially for medical implants and aerospace components. However, the inferior surface roughness of additive manufactured products affects the outward appearance and reduces performance. This study determines whether activation treatment prior to electropolishing produces a better surface. Oxalic acid (OA) is used as a pre-activator using different experimental conditions and the surface roughness is reduced by electropolishing with an electrolyte of perchloric acid and glacial acetic acid. The SEM surface morphology, mechanical properties, phase transformation and electrochemical properties are measured to determine the effect of different degrees of roughness on the surface. The results show that the surface roughness of AM titanium-based samples decreases from 8.47 µm to 1.09 µm after activation using OA as a pre-treatment for electropolishing. Air lubrication is a promising drag reduction technology for ships because it is considered to reduce the skin-friction resistance of ships by changing the energy of turbulent boundary layers. Air lubrication drag reduction can be classified into: microbubble drag reduction (injection of microbubbles along the hull), air film drag reduction (using a larger film of air to cover the ship bottom), and air cavity drag reduction (recesses underneath the hull are filled with air). In this paper, the research progress of the air lubrication drag reduction technology is reviewed from experimental and numerical aspects. For these three drag reduction methods, based on the aspect of experimental research, the main research focus is the analysis and evaluation of the influencing factors such as the gas injection form and drag reduction rate; in terms of theoretical research, the accuracy of the simulation calculation depends on the selection of the theoretical calculation model and the analysis of the drag reduction mechanism. The paper introduces, in detail, the typical experimental phenomena and the theoretical results of a numerical study of three types of drag reduction methods, revealing the essence of air lubrication technology to achieve drag reduction by changing the physical properties of the turbulent boundary layer. This paper is dedicated to the calculation of the radiative properties of 82%argon-18%CO2 thermal plasmas with the addition of metallic vapors (iron, in the present case, due to workpiece and wire erosion), this mixture being representative of metal active gas (MAG) arc welding processes. These radiative properties are obtained in the frame of the net emission coefficient (NEC) theory, using the recent and accurate "line by line" method. All significant radiative contribution mechanisms are taken into account in the calculation: atomic lines, atomic continuum (radiative attachment, radiative recombination, and bremsstrahlung), molecular bands for diatomic and polyatomic molecules, and molecular continuum. Broadening phenomena (Doppler and pressure effects) are also carefully treated for bound-bound transitions (atomic lines and molecular bands). Regarding 82%Ar-18%CO2 plasma, the results obtained demonstrate the key role of molecular bands at low temperatures (T < 4 kK), whereas the atomic line and continuum prevailed at intermediate and high temperatures. With the addition of a few percentages of iron vapor, it was shown that the total NEC is significantly increased (especially at low temperatures) and that the atomic and ionic lines become dominant in all the studied temperature ranges (3–30 kK). This theoretical study will constitute a groundwork to build a diagnostic method (based on the calculation of partial NECs for accurately chosen spectral intervals) for the determination of plasma temperature and iron vapor concentration in welding arcs. This study compared the efficacies of enteral cholecalciferol and/or intravenous (IV) calcitriol administration on mesenteric lymph node (MLN) cluster-of-differentiation-4-positive (CD4+) T cell distribution and intestinal barrier damage in obese mice complicated with sepsis. Mice were fed a high-fat diet for 16 weeks and then sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). Mice were divided into the following sepsis groups: without vitamin D (VD) (S); with oral cholecalciferol 1 day before CLP (G); with IV calcitriol 1 h after CLP (V); and with both cholecalciferol before and IV calcitriol after CLP (GV). All mice were sacrificed at 12 or 24 h after CLP. The findings show that the S group had a higher T helper (Th)17 percentage than the VD-treated groups at 12 h after CLP. The V group exhibited a higher Th1 percentage and Th1/Th2 ratio than the other groups at 24 h, whereas the V and GV groups had a lower Th17/regulatory T (Treg) ratio 12 h post-CLP in MLNs. In ileum tissues, the VD-treated groups had higher tight junction protein and cathelicidin levels, and higher mucin gene expression than the S group at 24 h post-CLP. Also, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and its associated cytochrome P450 1A1 and interleukin 22 gene expressions were upregulated. In contrast, levels of lipid peroxides and inflammatory mediators in ileum tissues were lower in the groups with VD treatment after CLP. These results suggest that IV calcitriol seemed to have a more-pronounced effect on modulating the homeostasis of Th/Treg subsets in MLNs. Both oral cholecalciferol before and IV calcitriol after CLP promoted cathelicidin secretion, alleviated intestinal inflammation, and ameliorated the epithelial integrity in obese mice complicated with sepsis possibly via VD receptor and AhR signaling pathways. In this study, we deposited zinc oxide (ZnO) and aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) on the electroless nickel immersion gold (ENIG) of a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) as a potentiometric pH sensor. The sensing films of the pH sensor were fabricated by a radio frequency (RF) sputtering system and analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In the pH 2 to 10 buffer solutions, it was observed that the characteristics of the pH sensor through the voltage–time (V-T) measurement system include average sensitivity and linearity, drift effect, and repeatability. In precision agriculture, effective monitoring of corn pest regions is crucial to developing early scientific prevention strategies and reducing yield losses. However, complex backgrounds and small objects in real farmland bring challenges to accurate detection. In this paper, we propose an improved model based on YOLOv4 that uses contextual information and attention mechanism. Firstly, a context priming module with simple architecture is designed, where effective features of different layers are fused as additional context features to augment pest region feature representation. Secondly, we propose a multi-scale mixed attention mechanism (MSMAM) with more focus on pest regions and reduction of noise interference. Finally, the mixed attention feature-fusion module (MAFF) with MSMAM as the kernel is applied to selectively fuse effective information from additional features of different scales and alleviate the inconsistencies in their fusion. Experimental results show that the improved model performs better in different growth cycles and backgrounds of corn, such as corn in vegetative 12th, the vegetative tasseling stage, and the overall dataset. Compared with the baseline model (YOLOv4), our model achieves better average precision (AP) by 6.23%, 6.08%, and 7.2%, respectively. In addition, several comparative experiments were conducted on datasets with different corn growth cycles and backgrounds, and the results verified the effectiveness and usability of the proposed method for such tasks, providing technical reference and theoretical research for the automatic identification and control of pests. In recent years, hospice and palliative care (HPC) has grown, developed, and changed in response to the humanistic and social needs for supporting those with incurable illnesses. As a relatively new discipline, research is needed in HPC, and the priority setting of research is essential to help direct finite resources to support research. To promote creative research in different fields including HPC, the Taiwan government subsidized institutions to conduct research. In this study, we obtained data from the Government Research Bulletin, an open-source online system containing complete information about government subsidized studies since 1993 to investigate the development of research priority in HPC in Taiwan. In total, 552 studies were recorded during 1993–2021, with a continued upward trend. An association was found between research priority and the promulgation of new HPC regulations. The type of diseases in research extended from cancer to all advanced chronic conditions. The increased diversity in out-of-hospital settings of palliative research was also observed. Numerous studies have focused on education, and the theme gradually shifted from "training and education for healthcare professionals" to "public education". Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysregulation is an important pathophysiological mechanism in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Heart rate variability (HRV) is a common index for ANS, and HRV has been used to explore the association between ANS and clinical illnesses. This study aimed to explore the group differences in HRV, depression, anxiety, and quality of life between participants with COPD and healthy controls (HC group), and whether emotion plays a mediating role between HRV and quality of life in participants with COPD. A total of ninety-six participants with COPD and 59 participants in the HC group completed the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). Assessment of spirometry pulmonary function and five minute lead II electrocardiography (ECG) were also performed under the resting baseline. The COPD group had higher depression scores (F = 4.10, p = 0.008), and a lower quality of life (F = 14.44, p < 0.001) and HRV indices (such as standard deviation of RR intervals (F = 5.49, p < 0.05) and low frequency (F = 3.03, p < 0.05)) compared to the HC group. Sympathetic activation was positively correlated with depression (r = 0.312, p < 0.01), anxiety (r = 0.420, p < 0.001), and poor quality of life (r = 0.467, p < 0.001) in the COPD group. After controlling for age and sex, anxiety (β = 0.585, p < 0.001) and sympathetic activation (β = 0.231, p < 0.05) positively predicted poor quality of life, and lung function (β = −0.251, p < 0.01) negatively predicted poor quality of life. Therefore, anxiety is a mediator between sympathetic activation and quality of life. Emotional and HRV screening should be applied to COPD patients in clinical practice, and emotional management or HRV biofeedback training can be used to improve anxiety and HRV for future studies. This study proposes a method to improve fractional-order particle swarm optimizer to overcome the shortcomings of traditional swarm algorithms, such as low search accuracy in a high-dimensional space, falling into local minimums, and nonrobust results. In natural phenomena, our controllable fractional-order particle swarm optimizer can explore search spaces in detail to obtain high resolutions. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is memorable, i.e., position updates focus on the particle position of previous and last generations, rendering it conservative when updating the position, and obtained results are robust. For verifying the algorithm's effectiveness, 11 test functions compare the average value, overall best value, and standard deviation of the controllable fractional-order particle swarm optimizer and controllable particle swarm optimizer; experimental results show that the stability of the former is better than the latter. Furthermore, the solution position found by the controllable fractional-order particle swarm optimizer is more reliable. Therefore, the improved method proposed herein is effective. Moreover, this research describes how a heart disease prediction application uses the optimizer we proposed to optimize XGBoost hyperparameters with custom target values. A hybrid method is proposed for optimizing rigid tapping parameters and reducing synchronization errors in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. The proposed method integrates uniform design (UD), regression analysis, Taguchi method, and fractional-order particle swarm optimizer (FPSO) to optimize rigid tapping parameters. Rigid tapping parameters were laid out in a 28-level uniform layout for the experiments in this study. Since the UD method provided a layout with uniform dispersion in the experimental space, the UD method's uniform layout provided iconic experimental points. Next, the 28-level uniform layout results and regression analysis results were used to obtain significant parameters and a regression function. To obtain the parameter values from the regression function, FPSO was selected because its diversity and algorithmic effectiveness are enhanced compared with PSO. The experimental results indicated that the proposed method could obtain suitable parameter values. The best parameter combination in FPSO yielded the best results in comparisons of the non-systematic method. Next, the best parameter combination was used to optimize actual CNC machining tools during the factory commissioning process. From the commissioning process perspective, the proposed method rapidly and accurately minimizes synchronization error from 23 pulses to 18 pulses and processing time from 20.8 s to 20 s. In conclusion, the proposed method reduced the time needed to tune factory parameters for CNC machining tools and increased machining precision and decreased synchronization errors. In recent years, the research of combining a knowledge graph with recommendation systems has caused widespread concern. By studying the interconnections in knowledge graphs, potential connections between users and items can be discovered, which provides abundant and complementary information for recommendation of items. However, most existing studies have not effectively established the relation between entities and users. Therefore, the recommendation results may be affected by some unrelated entities. In this paper, we propose a neighborhood aggregation collaborative filtering (NACF) based on knowledge graph. It uses the knowledge graph to spread and extract the user's potential interest, and iteratively injects them into the user features with attentional deviation. We conducted a large number of experiments on three public datasets; we verifyied that NACF is ahead of the most advanced models in top-k recommendation and click-through rate (CTR) prediction. An adaptive-uniform-experimental-design-based fractional particle swarm optimizer (AUFPSO) with non-linear time-varying evolution (NTE) is proposed. A particle swarm optimizer (PSO) is an excellent evolutionary algorithm due to its simple structure and rapid convergence. Nevertheless, PSO has notable drawbacks. Although many proposed methods and strategies have enhanced its effectiveness and performance, PSO is limited by its tendency to fall into local optima and its tendency to obtain different solutions in each search (i.e., its weak robustness). Introducing fractional-order calculus in PSO (FPSO) can correct the order of the velocity derivative for each particle, which enhances the diversity and algorithmic effectiveness. This study used NTE of the order of the velocity derivative, inertia weight, cognitive parameter, and social parameter in an FPSO used to search for a global optimal solution. To obtain the best combination of FPSO and NTE, an adaptive uniform experimental design (AUED) method was used to deal with this essential issue. The AUED method integrates a uniform layout with the best combination phase and a stepwise ratio to assist in selecting the best combination for FPSO-NTE. Experimental applications in 15 global numerical optimization problems confirmed that the AUFPSO-NTE had a better performance and robustness than existing PSO-related algorithms. Drag reduction by injecting air is a promising engineering method for improving ship performance. A novel automatic air intake drag reduction strut structure based on the Venturi effect is proposed for the high-speed small water-plane area twin hull vessels in the present study. The drag reduction strut can achieve the function of automatic air intake when the vehicle is moving at high speed, and the air inhaled and the incoming flow form bubbly flows to cover the strut surface, effectively reducing the drag of the strut. Considering the longitudinal symmetry of the strut structure, a two-dimensional single-chip drag reduction strut structure is designed to facilitate analysis and a solution. The volume of fluid model is combined with the k-ω SST turbulence model, and a numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the variation of the air inflow, the air volume fraction in the bubbly flows of the strut and the drag reduction rate of the strut for different sailing speeds. The analysis result shows that when the proposed model reaches a certain speed, the external air is inhaled by the strut intake duct, and the bubbly flows are formed with the incoming flow covering the surface of the strut, thereby reducing the drag coefficient. Meanwhile, it is found that as the sailing speed increases, the drag reduction rate of the strut gradually rises and its maximum value reaches about 30%. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide and its incidence is increasing; therefore, an understanding of its oncogenic mechanisms is critical for improving its treatment and management. Methylglyoxal (MGO) has a highly reactive aldehyde group and has been suggested to play a role in oncogenesis. However, no standardized data are currently available on MGO levels in colorectal precancerous and cancerous lesions. We collected 40 matched colorectal tumor and peritumor tissues from patients with low-grade dysplasia (LGD), high-grade dysplasia (HGD), and invasive cancer (IC). MGO levels increased between LGD, HGD, and IC tumor tissues (215.25 ± 39.69, 267.45 ± 100.61, and 587.36 ± 123.19 μg/g protein, respectively; p = 0.014). The MGO levels in peritumor tissue increased and were significantly higher than MGO levels in tumor tissue (197.99 ± 49.40, 738.09 ± 247.87, 933.41 ± 164.83 μg/g protein, respectively; p = 0.002). Tumor tissue MGO levels did not correlate with age, sex, underlying disease, or smoking status. This paper presents innovative reinforcement learning methods for automatically tuning the parameters of a proportional integral derivative controller. Conventionally, the high dimension of the Q-table is a primary drawback when implementing a reinforcement learning algorithm. To overcome the obstacle, the idea underlying the n-armed bandit problem is used in this paper. Moreover, gain-scheduled actions are presented to tune the algorithms to improve the overall system behavior; therefore, the proposed controllers fulfill the multiple performance requirements. This study investigated the effects of l-glutamine (Gln) and/or l-leucine (Leu) administration on sepsis-induced skeletal muscle injuries. C57BL/6J mice were subjected to cecal ligation and puncture to induce polymicrobial sepsis and then given an intraperitoneal injection of Gln, Leu, or Gln plus Leu beginning at 1 h after the operation with re-injections every 24 h. All mice were sacrificed on either day 1 or day 4 after the operation. Blood and muscles were collected for analysis of inflammation and oxidative damage-related biomolecules. Results indicated that both Gln and Leu supplementation alleviated sepsis-induced skeletal muscle damage by reducing monocyte infiltration, calpain activity, and mRNA expression levels of inflammatory cytokines and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α. Furthermore, septic mice treated with Gln had higher percentages of blood anti-inflammatory monocytes and muscle M2 macrophages, whereas Leu treatment enhanced the muscle expressions of mitochondrion-related genes. However, there were no synergistic effects when Gln and Leu were simultaneously administered. These findings suggest that both Gln and Leu had prominent abilities to attenuate inflammation and degradation of skeletal muscles in the early and/or late phases of sepsis. In this research, the main purpose was to study the applicability of a machining method on microscale medical-equipment manufacturing. The characteristics of wire electrochemical micromachining (WECMM) against NiTi 50-50 wire was investigated. The study utilized a tungsten wire 0.03 mm in diameter as an electrode to cut a fine slot into the nickel–titanium wire. In order to reach a high-precision WECMM finish, an ultrashort pulse power generator was used as a power source to minimize the stray current effect, thus improving the machining accuracy. During the process, various machining parameters were tested for their effects on machining characteristics. In addition, ultrasonic-vibration-aided WECMM was investigated to determine whether it benefited the machining characteristics. The experiment's results showed that under such an experiment setting, microslots can be successfully manufactured. Furthermore, with the advance adjustment of experimental parameters, the machining accuracy was improved. To track moving targets undergoing unknown translational and rotational motions, a tracking controller is developed for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The main challenges are to control both the relative position and orientation between the target and the UAV to within desired values, and to guarantee that the generated control input to the UAV is feasible (i.e., below its motion capability). Moreover, the UAV is controlled to ensure that the target always remains within the field of view of the onboard camera. These control objectives were achieved by developing a nonlinear-model predictive controller, in which the future motion of the target is predicted by quadratic programming (QP). Since constraints of the feature vector and the control input are considered when solving the optimal control problem, the control inputs can be bounded and the target can remain inside the image. This study was conducted to compare the effects of broad spectrum during the whole seedling period and photon flux density (PFD) in the healing stage on the growth and energy use efficiency of grafted tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) transplants in a plant factory. Fluorescent lights, white LED lights, and white plus red LED lights were applied at the growth processes of grafted tomato transplants from germination of rootstock and scion to post-grafting. Three levels of PFD (50, 100, 150 μmol m−2 s−1) were set in the healing stage under each kind of light quality. The results indicated that the growth and quality of grafted tomato transplants under different broad spectrums were influenced by the ratio of red to blue light (R/B ratio) and the ratio of red to far-red light (R/FR ratio). A higher R/B ratio was beneficial to total dry matter accumulation, but excessive red light had a negative effect on the root to shoot ratio and the seedling quality index. The higher blue light and R/FR ratio suppressed stem extension synergistically. The LED lights had good abilities to promote plant compactness and leaf thickness in comparison with fluorescent lights. The plant compactness and leaf thickness increased with the increase in daily light integral in the healing stage within a range from 2.5 to 7.5 mol m−2 d−1 (PFD, 50 to 150 μmol m−2 s−1). Compared to fluorescent lights, the LED lights showed more than 110% electrical energy saving for lighting during the whole seedling period. Higher PFD in the healing stage did not significantly increase the consumption of electric power for lighting. White plus red LED lights with an R/B ratio of 1.2 and R/FR ratio of 16 were suggested to replace fluorescent lights for grafted tomato transplants production considering the high quality of transplants and electrical energy saving, and PFD in the healing stage was recommended to be set to 150 μmol m−2 s−1. A cobalt oxide (Co3O4)-decorated silicon carbide (SiC) nano-tree array (denoted as Co3O4/SiC NTA) electrode is synthesized, and it is investigated for use in micro-supercapacitor applications. Firstly, the well-standing SiC nanowires (NWs) are prepared by nickel (Ni)-catalyzed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method, and then the thin layer of Co3O4 and the hierarchical Co3O4 nano-flower-clusters are, respectively, fabricated on the side-walls and the top side of the SiC NWs via electrodeposition. The deposition of Co3O4 on the SiC NWs benefits the charge transfer at the electrode/aqueous electrolyte interface due to its extremely hydrophilic surface characteristic after Co3O4 decoration. Furthermore, the Co3O4/SiC NTA electrode provides a directional charge transport route along the length of SiC nanowires owing to their well-standing architecture. By using the Co3O4/SiC NTA electrode for micro-supercapacitor application, the areal capacitance obtained from cyclic voltammetry measurement reaches 845 mF cm−2 at a 10 mV s−1 scan rate. Finally, the capacitance durability is also evaluated by the cycling test of cyclic voltammetry at a high scan rate of 150 mV s−1 for 2000 cycles, exhibiting excellent stability. To explore aggregate-induced emission (AIE) properties, this study adopts a one-pot hydrothermal route for synthesizing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-coated graphene quantum dot (GQD) clusters, enabling the emission of highly intense photoluminescence under blue light illumination. The hydrothermal synthesis was performed at 300 °C using o-phenylenediamine as the nitrogen and carbon sources in the presence of PEG. Three different solvents, propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PGMEA), ethanol, and water, were used for dispersing the PEG-coated GQDs, where extremely high fluorescent emission was achieved at 530–550 nm. It was shown that the quantum yield (QY) of PEG-coated GQD suspensions is strongly dependent on the solvent type. The pristine GQD suspension tends to be quenched (i.e., QY: ~1%) when dispersed in PGMEA (aggregation-caused quenching). However, coating GQD nanoparticles with polyethylene glycol results in substantial enhancement of the quantum yield. When investigating the photoluminescence emission from PEG-coated GQD clusters, the surface tension of the solvents was within the range of from 26.9 to 46.0 mN/m. This critical index can be tuned for assessing the transition point needed to activate the AIE mechanism which ultimately boosts the fluorescence intensity. The one-pot hydrothermal route established in this study can be adopted to engineer PEG-coated GQD clusters with solid-state PL emission capabilities, which are needed for next-generation optical, bio-sensing, and energy storage/conversion devices. We fabricated the photonic-crystal-structured p-GaN (PC-structured p-GaN) nanorods using the modified polystyrene nanosphere (PS NS) lithography method for InGaN/GaN green light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to enhance the light extraction efficiency (LEE). A modified PS NS lithography method including two-times spin-coating processes and the post-spin-coating heating treatment was used to obtain a self-assembly close-packed PS NS array of monolayer as a mask and then a partially dry etching process was applied to PS NS, SiO2, and p-GaN to form PC-structured p-GaN nanorods on the InGaN/GaN green LEDs. The light output intensity and LEE of InGaN/GaN green LEDs with the PC-structured p-GaN nanorods depend on the period, diameter, and height of PC-structured p-GaN nanorods. RSoft FullWAVE software based on the three-dimension finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm was used to calculate the LEE of InGaN/GaN green LEDs with PC-structured p-GaN nanorods of the varied period, diameter, and height. The optimal period, diameter, and height of PC-structured p-GaN nanorods are 150, 350, and 110 nm. The InGaN/GaN green LEDs with optimal PC-structured p-GaN nanorods exhibit an enhancement of 41% of emission intensity under the driving current of 20 mA as compared to conventional LED. In this study, aggregates in asphalt concrete were partially replaced by basic oxygen furnace slag (BOFS) in proportions of 45 wt.%, 55 wt.%, and 75 wt.%. The thermal performances of the specimens are discussed based on the thermal conductivity, emissivity, and the indoor and outdoor temperature measurements. Consequently, 75 wt.% of the specimen's aggregates were replaced by BOFS, which had a high emissivity of 0.86 across the sky window. In the indoor and outdoor tests, the temperature change was recorded to estimate the thermal performance of specimens. According to the quantitative calculation, when the substitution of BOFS was higher than 55 wt.%, the specimens had a better radiation cooling ability. Among these specimens, the specimen with the BOFS substitution of 75 wt.% absorbed the most heat inside the body, contributing to less heat remaining in the environment. Furthermore, because Newton's cooling energy accounted for about 90% of the stored energy within 7 h, the heat dissipation after the seventh hour was primarily radiation cooling, corresponding to the emission across the urban boundary layer. As for the mechanical properties, the stability value, indirect tensile strength, and British pendulum number (BPN) were in line with the specifications under the proper BOFS substitution. In conclusion, BOFS has great applicability in pavements due to its thermal performance and mechanical properties. The recent explosion of large volume of standard dataset of annotated images has offered promising opportunities for deep learning techniques in effective and efficient object detection applications. However, due to a huge difference of quality between these standardized dataset and practical raw data, it is still a critical problem on how to maximize utilization of deep learning techniques in practical agriculture applications. Here, we introduce a domain-specific benchmark dataset, called AgriPest, in tiny wild pest recognition and detection, providing the researchers and communities with a standard large-scale dataset of practically wild pest images and annotations, as well as evaluation procedures. During the past seven years, AgriPest captures 49.7K images of four crops containing 14 species of pests by our designed image collection equipment in the field environment. All of the images are manually annotated by agricultural experts with up to 264.7K bounding boxes of locating pests. This paper also offers a detailed analysis of AgriPest where the validation set is split into four types of scenes that are common in practical pest monitoring applications. We explore and evaluate the performance of state-of-the-art deep learning techniques over AgriPest. Two-dimensional-layered transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-layered TMDs) are a chemically diverse class of compounds having variable band gaps and remarkable electrochemical properties, which make them potential materials for applications in the field of electrochemical energy. To date, 2D-layered TMDs have been wildly used in water-splitting systems, dye-sensitized solar cells, supercapacitors, and some catalysis systems, etc., and the pertinent devices exhibit good performances. However, several reports have also indicated that the active sites for catalytic reaction are mainly located on the edge sites of 2D-layered TMDs, and their basal plane shows poor activity toward catalysis reaction. Accordingly, many studies have reported various approaches, namely active-site engineering, to address this issue, including plasma treatment, edge site formation, heteroatom-doping, nano-sized TMD pieces, highly curved structures, and surface modification via nano-sized catalyst decoration, etc. In this article, we provide a short review for the active-site engineering on 2D-layered TMDs and their applications in electrochemical energy. Lung adenocarcinoma (LADC) is a major subtype of lung cancer, particularly among populations of East Asia. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is the most frequently mutated oncogene promoting LADC progression and can serve as a therapeutic target in LADC. The tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP)-3 is a major regulator of extracellular matrix turnover via targeting of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and thus, plays a critical role in tumor development and progression. The purpose of this study was to investigate potential associations among TIMP-3 genetic polymorphisms, EGFR statuses, and cancer clinicopathologic development in patients with LADC. In this study, 277 LADC patients with different EGFR statuses were recruited to dissect the allelic discrimination of TIMP-3 -1296 T>C (rs9619311), TIMP3 249T>C (rs9862), and TIMP3 261C>T (rs11547635) polymorphisms using a TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. Our data showed that compared to those LADC patients with wild-type CC homozygotes of TIMP-3 rs9862, patients harboring TT homozygotes of rs9862 were at a higher risk of developing mutant EGFR (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 2.530; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.230–5.205; p = 0.012), particularly the EGFR L858R point mutation (AOR = 2.975; 95% CI: 1.182–7.488; p = 0.021). Moreover, we observed that TIMP-3 TT homozygotes of rs9862 were correlated with the incidence of EGFR mutations in patients with a smoking habit (p = 0.045). Within male patients harboring a mutant EGFR, TIMP-3 rs9862 T (CT+TT) allele carriers were at higher risk of developing an advanced stage (p = 0.025) and lymph node metastasis (p = 0.043). Further analyses of clinical datasets revealed correlations of TIMP-3 expression with a favorable prognosis in patients with LADC. In conclusion, the data suggest that TIMP-3 rs9862 polymorphisms may contribute to identify subgroups of lung cancer patients at high risk for tumor progression, among carriers of LADC-bearing mutant EGFR. Obesity is a health problem associated with many metabolic disorders. Weight reduction can effectively alleviate obesity-associated complications. Sleeve gastrectomy is a commonly used bariatric surgery and is considered safe and effective for improving outcomes. Glutamine (GLN) is an amino acid with anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. This study used a mouse model of sleeve gastrectomy to investigate the impacts of intravenous GLN administration on glucose tolerance and adipocyte inflammation short-term after surgery. C57BL6 male mice were divided into normal control (NC) and high-fat diet groups. The high-fat diet provided 60% of energy from fat for 10 weeks to induce obesity. Mice fed the high-fat diet were then assigned to a sham (SH) or sleeve gastrectomy with saline (S) or GLN (G) groups. The S group was intravenously injected with saline, while the G group was administered GLN (0.75 g/kg body weight) via a tail vein postoperatively. Mice in the experimental groups were sacrificed on day 1 or 3 after the surgery. Results showed that obesity resulted in fat accumulation, elevated glucose levels, and adipokines production. Sleeve gastrectomy aggravated expressions of inflammatory cytokine and macrophage infiltration markers, cluster of differentiation 68 (CD68), epidermal growth factor-like module-containing mucin-like hormone receptor-like 1 (EMR-1), and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1, in adipose tissues. Treatment of obese mice with GLN downregulated hepatic proteomic profiles associated with the gluconeogenesis pathway and improved glucose tolerance. Moreover, macrophage infiltration and adipose tissue inflammation were attenuated after the sleeve gastrectomy. These findings imply that postoperative intravenous GLN administration may improve glucose tolerance and attenuate inflammation shortly after the bariatric surgery in subjects with obesity. EGFR mutation status is considered as an important predictor of therapeutic responsiveness in non-small-cell lung carcinoma patients. Recent evidence suggests that antioxidant gene polymorphisms are potential predictors of lung cancer risk. Thus, stratification of EGFR mutation-related phenotypes by antioxidant gene polymorphism status can be an effective approach in terms of improving the prognosis of lung cancer patients. The present study was designed to evaluate the distribution frequency of antioxidant gene polymorphisms in lung adenocarcinoma, as well as its association with hotspot EGFR mutations. The study findings revealed that a statistically significant association exists between EGFR L858R mutation and AG + GG genotypes of SOD rs4880 polymorphism. Furthermore, the subgroup analysis data revealed that compared to AA genotype of SOD rs4880, AG + GG genotypes were significantly associated with advanced cancer stage and distant metastasis. Taken together, these findings can be utilized clinically to predict cancer aggressiveness, metastatic, potential and therapeutic responsiveness of lung cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The Patient Autonomy Act was implemented in Taiwan on 6 January 2019. It is the first patient-oriented act in Taiwan, and also the first special act to completely protect patient autonomy in Asia. Our study aimed to investigate the web resources citizens were able to access on the eve of the implementation of the Patient Autonomy Act in Taiwan. Methods: Patient Autonomy Act-related web resources were searched for by entering 10 related terms individually into the Google search engine in January 2019 and again in April 2019. Search activity data were analyzed using Google Trends. Results: "Advance care planning" and "advance decision" were the most relevant keywords for finding information about the Patient Autonomy Act on the eve of the act's implementation in Taiwan. The main online information sources were non-governmental websites including news sites and online magazines. The related search volume only increased on the eve of implementation. Conclusions: Even though the Patient Autonomy Act was first published three years before its implementation, the related search volume only increased on the eve of its implementation. Since there is merit in noninvasive monitoring of muscular oxidative metabolism for near-infrared spectroscopy in a wide range of clinical scenarios, the present study attempted to evaluate the clinical usability for featuring the modulatory strategies of sternocleidomastoid muscular oxygenation using near-infrared spectroscopy in mild nonspecific neck pain patients. The muscular oxygenation variables of the dominant or affected sternocleidomastoid muscles of interest were extracted at 25% of the maximum voluntary isometric contraction from ten patients (5 males and 5 females, 23.6 ± 4.2 years) and asymptomatic individuals (6 males and 4 females, 24.0 ± 5.1 years) using near-infrared spectroscopy. Only a shorter half-deoxygenation time of oxygen saturation during a sternocleidomastoid isometric contraction was noted in patients compared to asymptomatic individuals (10.43 ± 1.79 s vs. 13.82 ± 1.42 s, p < 0.001). Even though the lack of statically significant differences in most of the muscular oxygenation variables failed to refine the definite pathogenic mechanisms underlying nonspecific neck pain, the findings of modulatory strategies of faster deoxygenation implied that near-infrared spectroscopy appears to have practical potential to provide relevant physiological information regarding muscular oxidative metabolism and constituted convincing preliminary evidences of the adaptive manipulations rather than pathological responses of oxidative metabolism capacity of sternocleidomastoid muscles in nonspecific neck patients with mild disability.
