The structure and function of retinal vessels play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating various ocular and systemic diseases. Therefore, the accurate segmentation of retinal vessels is of paramount importance to assist a clinical diagnosis. U-Net has been highly praised for its outstanding performance in the field of medical image segmentation. However, with the increase in network depth, multiple pooling operations may lead to the problem of crucial information loss. Additionally, handling the insufficient processing of local context features caused by skip connections can affect the accurate segmentation of retinal vessels. To address these problems, we proposed a novel model for retinal vessel segmentation. The proposed model is implemented based on the U-Net architecture, with the addition of two blocks, namely, an MsFE block and MsAF block, between the encoder and decoder at each layer of the U-Net backbone. The MsFE block extracts low-level features from different scales, while the MsAF block performs feature fusion across various scales. Finally, the output of the MsAF block replaces the skip connection in the U-Net backbone. Experimental evaluations on the DRIVE dataset, CHASE_DB1 dataset, and STARE dataset demonstrated that MsAF-UNet exhibited excellent segmentation performance compared with the state-of-the-art methods. Radiation therapy relies on quality assurance (QA) to verify dose delivery accuracy. However, current QA methods suffer from operation lag as well as inaccurate performance. Hence, to address these shortcomings, this paper proposes a QA neural network model based on branch architecture, which is based on the analysis of the category features of the QA complexity metrics. The designed branch network focuses on category features, which effectively improves the feature extraction capability for complexity metrics. The branch features extracted by the model are fused to predict the GPR for more accurate QA. The performance of the proposed method was validated on the collected dataset. The experiments show that the prediction performance of the model outperforms other QA methods; the average prediction errors for the test set are 2.12% (2%/2 mm), 1.69% (3%/2 mm), and 1.30% (3%/3 mm). Moreover, the results indicate that two-thirds of the validation samples' model predictions perform better than the clinical evaluation results, suggesting that the proposed model can assist physicists in the clinic. Diabetic retinopathy is a prevalent eye disease that poses a potential risk of blindness. Nevertheless, due to the small size of diabetic retinopathy lesions and the high interclass similarity in terms of location, color, and shape among different lesions, the segmentation task is highly challenging. To address these issues, we proposed a novel framework named nmODE-Unet, which is based on the nmODE (neural memory Ordinary Differential Equation) block and U-net backbone. In nmODE-Unet, the shallow features serve as input to the nmODE block, and the output of the nmODE block is fused with the corresponding deep features. Extensive experiments were conducted on the IDRiD dataset, e_ophtha dataset, and the LGG segmentation dataset, and the results demonstrate that, in comparison to other competing models, nmODE-Unet showcases a superior performance. Pulmonary lobe segmentation is vital for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Deep neural network-based pulmonary lobe segmentation methods have seen rapid development. However, there are challenges that remain, e.g., pulmonary fissures are always not clear or incomplete, especially in the complex situation of the trilobed right pulmonary, which leads to relatively poor results. To address this issue, this study proposes a novel method, called nmPLS-Net, to segment pulmonary lobes effectively using nmODE. Benefiting from its nonlinear and memory capacity, we construct an encoding network based on nmODE to extract features of the entire lung and dependencies between features. Then, we build a decoding network based on edge segmentation, which segments pulmonary lobes and focuses on effectively detecting pulmonary fissures. The power industry is a major source of carbon emissions in China. In order to better explore the driving factors of carbon emissions in China's power industry and assist the Chinese government in formulating emission reduction strategies for the power industry, this study applies the improved production-theoretical decomposition analysis (PDA) method to analyze the carbon emission drivers of China's power industry. This study investigates the impact of energy intensity, per capita GDP, population density, power generation structure, and environmental climate on carbon emissions in China's power industry in 30 provinces from 2005 to 2020. It was found that the carbon emission ratios of the power sector in all provinces and cities are basically greater than 1, which indicates that carbon emissions in most of the power sectors in the country are still increasing as of 2020. Overall, the effects of potential thermal fuel carbon emission efficiency, potential thermal energy consumption efficiency, the carbon emission efficiency of thermal power generation, economic scale, population density, and annual rainfall change are mostly greater than 1 and will promote the growth of carbon emissions in the power sector. Moreover, the effects of thermal power generation energy efficiency technology, thermal power generation emission reduction technology, power generation structure, and power generation per unit GDP are mostly less than 1 and will inhibit the growth of carbon emissions in the power sector. However, each of these drivers does not have the same degree of influence and impact effect for each province and city. Based on the research results, some policy recommendations are proposed. Medical images contain complex information, and the automated analysis of medical images can greatly assist doctors in clinical decision making. Therefore, the automatic segmentation of medical images has become a hot research topic in recent years. In this study, a novel architecture called a contoured convolutional transformer (CCTrans) network is proposed to solve the segmentation problem. A dual convolutional transformer block and a contoured detection module are designed, which integrate local and global contexts to establish reliable relational connections. Multi-scale features are effectively utilized to enhance semantic feature understanding. The dice similarity coefficient (DSC) is employed to evaluate experimental performance. Two public datasets with two different modalities are chosen as the experimental datasets. Our proposed method achieved an average DSC of 83.97% on a synapse dataset (abdominal multi-organ CT) and 92.15% on an ACDC dataset (cardiac MRI). Especially for the segmentation of small and complex organs, our proposed model achieves better segmentation results than other advanced approaches. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the novel method and its potential for real-world applications. In recent years, China has determined the national goal of "developing national environmental criteria", thereby promoting the rapid development of environmental quality criteria research in China. In 2017, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (MEEC, formerly the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China) issued the technical guideline for deriving water quality criteria (WQC) for protection of freshwater organisms (HJ 831-2017), and in 2022, they organized the guideline revision and issued an updated version (HJ 831-2022). The primary contents of the revision included the following. The minimum toxicity data requirements were upgraded from 6 to 10, and the species mean toxicity value was replaced by the same effect toxicity value for the criteria calculation. It is now required that the tested organisms must be distributed in China's natural fresh waters, and the toxicity data of non-native model species will no longer be used. The list of freshwater invasive species in China that cannot be used as test species was added into the guideline. The acute/chronic ratio (ACR) method for the criteria derivation and the extreme value model were deleted, and the provisions for testing the toxicity data distribution were also deleted. The exposure time of the toxicity test of various tested organisms was refined, and the priority of the toxicity data was clearly specified. This paper introduces the framework and specific technical requirements of HJ 831-2022 in detail, including data collection, pre-processing of toxicity data, criteria derivation, fitting models, and quality control. Generally, regulation of cyclic electron flow (CEF) and chloroplast ATP synthase play key roles in photoprotection for photosystems I and II (PSI and PSII) in C3 and C4 plants, especially when CO2 assimilation is restricted. However, how CAM plants protect PSI and PSII when CO2 assimilation is restricted is largely known. In the present study, we measured PSI, PSII, and electrochromic shift signals in the CAM plant Vanilla planifolia. The quantum yields of PSI and PSII photochemistry largely decreased in the afternoon compared to in the morning, indicating that CO2 assimilation was strongly restricted in the afternoon. Meanwhile, non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) in PSII and the donor side limitation of PSI (Y(ND)) significantly increased to protect PSI and PSII. Under such conditions, proton gradient (∆pH) across the thylakoid membranes largely increased and CEF was slightly stimulated, indicating that the increased ∆pH was not caused by the regulation of CEF. In contrast, the activity of chloroplast ATP synthase (gH+) largely decreased in the afternoon. At a given proton flux, the decreasing gH+ increased ∆pH and thus contributed to the enhancement of NPQ and Y(ND). Therefore, in the CAM plant V. planifolia, the ∆pH-dependent photoprotective mechanism is mainly regulated by the regulation of gH+ rather than CEF when CO2 assimilation is restricted. Micro-fluidized bed has aroused much attention due to its low-cost, intensified-process and fast-screening properties. In this paper, a micro-fluidized bed (15×15 mm in cross-section) was designed and fabricated with the use of the stereolithography printing technique, for the investigation of bubbles' hydrodynamics and comparison of the solids (3D-printed particles VS fungal pellets) fluidization characteristics. In a liquid-gas system, bubble flow regime started from mono-dispersed homogeneous regime, followed by poly-dispersed homogeneous regime, transition bubble regime and heterogeneous bubble regime with increasing gas flowrates from 3.7 mL/min to 32.7 mL/min. The impacts from operating parameters such as gas flowrate, superficial liquid velocity and gas sparger size on bubble size, velocity and volume fraction have been summarized. In liquid-solid fluidization, different solid fluidization regimes for both particles bed and pellets bed were identified. From the bed expansion results, much higher Umf of 7.8 mm/s from pellets fluidization was observed compared that of 2.3 mm/s in particles fluidization, because the hyphal structures of fungal pellets increased surface friction but also tended to agglomerate. The similar R-Z exponent n (5.7 and 5.5 for pellets and particles, respectively) between pellets and particles was explained by the same solid diameter, but much higher Ut of 436 μm/s in particles bed than that of 196 µm/s in pellets bed is a consequence of the higher density of solid particles. This work focuses on a kind of fractals Parrondo's paradoxial phenomenon "deiconnected+diconnected=connected" in an alternated superior complex system zn+1 = β b(zn² + ci) + (1-β) zn, i = 1, 2. On the one hand, the connectivity variation in superior Julia sets is explored by analyzing the connectivity loci. On the other hand, we graphically investigate the position relation between superior Mandelbrot set and the Connectivity Loci, which results in the conclusion that two totally disconnected superior Julia sets can originate a new, connected, superior Julia set. In this paper, a novel escape-time algorithm is proposed to calculate the connectivity's degree of Julia sets generated from polynomial maps. The proposed algorithm contains both quantitative analysis and visual display to measure the connectivity of Julia sets. For the quantitative part, a connectivity criterion method is designed by exploring the distribution rule of the connected regions, with an output value Co in the range of [0, 1]. The smaller the Co value outputs, the better the connectivity is. For the visual part, we modify the classical escape-time algorithm by highlighting and separating the initial point of each connected area. Finally, the Julia set is drawn into different brightnesses according to different Co values. The darker the color, the better the connectivity of the Julia set. Constipation is a common bowel disease in adults with the symptoms of dry stool or difficulty passing stool. Compared with medication therapy, patients show more compliance with the diet therapy, and thus the diet therapy normally exhibits better therapeutic effect. Allium mongolicum Regel s a perennial herb of Liliaceae native to Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and China, which is traditionally used for constipation. In this paper, we partly clarify the effectiveness of A. mongolicum on constipation from two aspects, including maintaining colon water content and increasing intestinal transit. In loperamide-induced constipation mice model, nine days oral administration of A. mongolicum 50% ethanolic extract increased luminal side water content and regulated intestinal movement rhythm to normalize stools. The activity at least partly related to down-regulation of colon aquaporins 3 (AQP3) expression, and up-regulation and activation of G protein alpha (Gα) and phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K). Further, activities on intestine movements were tested using compounds isolated from A. mongolicum. Three kinds of major flavonoids significantly increased cellular calcium flux in HCT116 cells and promoted mice intestine smooth muscle contraction. The activity may be related to M choline receptor, μ opioid receptor, 5-HT3 receptor, and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) receptor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the low temperature fabrication process and reduced hysteresis effect, inverted p-i-n structured perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with the PEDOT:PSS as the hole transporting layer and PCBM as the electron transporting layer have attracted considerable attention. However, the energy barrier at the interface between the PCBM layer and the metal electrode, which is due to an energy level mismatch, limits the electron extraction ability. In this work, an inorganic aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO) interlayer is inserted between the PCBM layer and the metal electrode so that electrons can be collected efficiently by the electrode. It is shown that with the help of the PCBM/AZO bilayer, the power conversion efficiency of PSCs is significantly improved, with negligible hysteresis and improved device stability. The UPS measurement shows that the AZO interlayer can effectively decrease the energy offset between PCBM and the metal electrode. The steady state photoluminescence, time-resolved photoluminescence, transient photocurrent, and transient photovoltage measurements show that the PSCs with the AZO interlayer have a longer radiative carrier recombination lifetime and more efficient charge extraction efficiency. A new depsidone derivative (1), aspergillusidone G, was isolated from a marine fungus Aspergillus unguis, together with eight known depsidones (2-9) and a cyclic peptide (10): agonodepside A (2), nornidulin (3), nidulin (4), aspergillusidone F (5), unguinol (6), aspergillusidone C (7), 2-chlorounguinol (8), aspergillusidone A (9), and unguisin A (10). Compounds 1-4 and 7-9 were obtained from the plasma induced mutant of this fungus, while 5, 6, and 10 were isolated from the original strain under chemical induction. Their structures were identified using spectroscopic analysis, as well as by comparison with literature data. The HPLC fingerprint analysis indicates that chemical induction and plasma mutagenesis effectively influenced the secondary metabolism, which may be due to their regulation in the key steps in depsidone biosynthesis. In bioassays, compound 9 inhibited acetylcholinesterase (AChE) with IC50 in 56.75 µM. Compounds 1, 5, 7, 8, and 9 showed moderate to strong activity towards different microbes. Compounds 3, 4, and 5 exhibited potent larvicidality against brine shrimp. In docking studies, higher negative CDOCKER interaction energy and richer strong interactions between AChE and 9 explained the greater activity of 9 compared to 1. The consumption of herbal teas has become popular in recent years due to their attractive flavors and outstanding antioxidant properties. The Five-Golden-Flowers tea is a herbal tea consisting of five famous edible flowers. The effects of microwave-assisted extraction parameters on the antioxidant activity of Five-Golden-Flowers tea were studied by single-factor experiments, and further investigated using response surface methodology. Under the optimal parameters (53.04 mL/g of solvent/material ratio, 65.52 °C, 30.89 min, and 500 W), the ferric-reducing antioxidant power, Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, and total phenolic content of the herbal tea were 862.90 ± 2.44 µmol Fe2+/g dry weight (DW), 474.37 ± 1.92 µmol Trolox/g DW, and 65.50 ± 1.26 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g DW, respectively. The in vivo antioxidant activity of the herbal tea was evaluated on alcohol-induced acute liver injury in mice. The herbal tea significantly decreased the levels of aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubin, and malonaldehyde at different doses (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg); improved the levels of liver index, serum triacylglycerol, and catalase at dose of 800 mg/kg. These results indicated its role in alleviating hepatic oxidative injury. Besides, rutin, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, gallic acid, and p-coumaric acid were identified and quantified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), which could contribute to the antioxidant activity of the herbal tea. Four new thiophenes, (3''R)-pluthiophenol (1), (3''R)-pluthiophenol-4''-acetate (2), 3''-ethoxy-(3''S)-pluthiophenol (3), 3''-ethoxy-(3''S)-pluthiophenol-4''-acetate (4), together with twenty-five known compounds were obtained from the 70% ethanol-water extract of the aerial parts of Pluchea indica Less. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Among the known isolates, compounds 7, 8, 11, 14, 15, 18, 20, 23, 25-27 were isolated from Asteraceae family firstly, while compounds 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 19, 21, 28 were isolated from Pluchea genus for the first time. Meanwhile, compounds 1, 2, 10, 13, 18, 23 displayed significant inhibitory activities on LPS-induced NO production at 40 µM from RAW 264.7 macrophages, while compounds 3, 4, 26-29 possessed moderate inhibitory effects. This paper introduces energy consumption and carbon emission into the analysis framework of the green productivity of tourism. By comparing and analyzing the two main methods used to evaluate the energy consumption and carbon emission estimations of tourism, namely, the “top-down” and “bottom-up” method, and considering the availability of data, the “bottom-up” method was adopted to evaluate the energy consumption and carbon emissions of tourism in the Yangtze River Economic Zone (YREZ). Then, using the Malmquist-Luenberger (ML) index in the super-efficiency data envelopment analysis (DEA) model, the green productivity of the tourism in 11 provinces and cities in the YREZ from 2006 to 2015 was measured. The empirical results show that: (1) The energy consumption and carbon emissions of tourism in the YREZ have increased steadily over the past 10 years, which has caused a certain degree of pollution to the environment, indicating that tourism is no longer a “smoke-free industry”; (2) there are significant provincial differences between the energy consumption and carbon emissions of tourism in the YREZ, with Shanghai always ranking first, while Guizhou and Yunnan ranks last, which represents that the tourism economic development level is positively correlated with the tourism energy consumption and carbon emissions; (3) the green productivity of tourism in the YREZ shows a fluctuating increasing trend in the past 10 years, and technological progress has become the main reason for its growth in green productivity; and (4) the green productivity of tourism in 11 provinces and cities in the YREZ can be divided into three types: Progressive type of tourism green development, stagnant type of tourism green development, and declining type of tourism green development. Eudesmane-type sesquiterpenes have been reported to exhibit varieties of biological activities. During the process of investigating this kind of natural product from the root bark of Dictamnus dasycarpus Turcz., 13 eudesmane-type sesquiterpene glycosides including six new isolates, named as dictameudesmnosides A1 (1), A2 (2), B (3), C (4), D (5), and E (6), together with seven known ones (7–13), were obtained. Herein, their structures were determined by the analysis of physical data, spectroscopic analysis, and chemical methods. The existence of -configuration glucose units in their structures (1–5, 8) is not very common in natural glycosidic components. Flexible displays are a systematic revolution in the field of display, in which high-performance and high-barrier polymer substrates are considered to be one of the most important key materials. In this work, high water vapor barrier polyimides containing amide moieties were synthesized via the ternary polymerization of 4,4'-diaminobenzailide (DABA), 4,4'-diaminodipheny ether (ODA), and 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (BPDA) followed by thermal imidization. The relationship between the content of amide moieties and the water vapor barrier property of the prepared polyimides was studied by means of density test, water absorbing test, water contact angle test, water vapor permeation test, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermogravimetry coupled with fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TG-FTIR), wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis (WXRD), mechanical performance test, etc. The results show that the introduction of amide groups into polyimide (PI) main chains can improve the water vapor barrier properties of the polyimides effectively. The water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the polyimide films can be improved from 8.2365 g.(m2.24 h)-1 to 0.8670 g.(m2.24 h)-1 with the increasing content of amide moieties. The terahertz (THz) spectra of rapeseed leaves with different water content (WC) were investigated. The transmission and absorption spectra in the range of 0.3-2 THz were measured by using THz time-domain spectroscopy. The mean transmittance and absorption coefficients were applied to analyze the change regulation of WC. In addition, the Savitzky-Golay method was performed to preprocess the spectra. Then, the partial least squares (PLS), kernel PLS (KPLS), and Boosting-PLS were conducted to establish models for predicting WC based on the processed transmission and absorption spectra. Reliable results were obtained by these three methods. KPLS generated the best prediction accuracy of WC. The prediction coefficient correlation (Rval) and root mean square error (RMSEP) of KPLS based on transmission were Rval = 0.8508, RMSEP = 0.1015, and that based on absorption were Rval = 0.8574, RMSEP = 0.1009. Results demonstrated that THz spectroscopy combined with modeling methods provided an efficient and feasible technique for detecting plant physiological information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The periodic impulse feature is the most typical fault signature of the vibration signal from fault rolling element bearings (REBs). However, it is easily contaminated by noise and interference harmonics. In order to extract the incipient impulse feature from the fault vibration signal, this paper presented an autocorrelation function periodic impulse harmonic to noise ratio (ACFHNR) index based on the SVD-Teager energy operator (TEO) method. Firstly, the Hankel matrix is constructed based on the raw vibration fault signal of rolling bearing, and the SVD method is used to obtain the singular components. Afterwards, the ACFHNR index is employed to measure the abundance of the periodic impulse fault feature for the singular components, and the component with the largest ACFHNR index value is extracted. Moreover, the properties of the ACFHNR index are demonstrated by simulations and the full life cycle of the experiment, showing its superiority over the traditional kurtosis and root mean square (RMS) index for extracting and detecting incipient periodic impulse features. Finally, the Teager energy operator spectrum of the extracted informative signal is gained. The simulation and experimental results indicated that the proposed ACFHNR index based method can effectively detect the incipient fault feature of the rolling bearing, and it shows better performance than the kurtosis and RMS index based methods. Increasing N concentration and the high density of epiphytic algae are both key factors leading to the decline of submerged macrophytes in many eutrophic lakes. In order to investigate the impacts of increased nitrate-N concentration and the growth of epiphytic algae on the decline of submerged vegetation, we conducted a 2 × 4 factorial experiment with the submerged macrophyte Vallisneria natans (Lour.) Hara by measuring the biomass of plants and some physiological indexes in leaves of V. natans under four nitrate-N concentrations in the water column (0.5, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg/L) and two epiphytic groups (epiphytic algae group and no epiphytic algae group). The results suggested that epiphytic algae could impose adverse effects on the biomass accumulation of V. natans, while the increasing nitrate-N concentration (0.5-10 mg/L) could oppositely promote this process and counteract the adverse effect of epiphytic algae. When nitrate-N concentration was 5 mg/L, the total chlorophyll content in leaves of V. natans in the epiphytic algae group was prominently lower compared with the no epiphytic algae group, while MDA, free proline, and anti-oxidant enzyme (SOD, POD, CAT) activities were significantly higher. Overhigh nitrate-N concentration in the water column also directly imposed adverse effects on the physiology of V. natans. When nitrate-N concentration was over 5 mg/L, the total chlorophyll content and free proline decreased in the no epiphytic algae group, while soluble carbohydrates and soluble proteins decreased when nitrate-N was over 2.5 mg/L. Meanwhile, epiphytic algae and nitrate-N content imposed a synergetic effect on the anti-oxidant enzyme activities of V. natans. When nitrate-N concentration was over 5 mg/L, SOD, POD, and CAT activities kept constant or decreased, which indicated that the oxidation resistance of V. natans was inhibited by stress. Our results indicate that epiphytic algae and increasing nitrate-N concentration in the water column could severally or synergistically impose adverse effects on the physiology of submerged macrophytes and are both key factors leading to the decline of submerged macrophytes. Xanthones, as some of the most active components and widely distributed in various herb medicines, have drawn more and more attention in recent years. So far, 168 species of herbal plants belong to 58 genera, 24 families have been reported to contain xanthones. During the hydraulic fracturing procedure in shale-gas exploitation, the poroelastic properties of shale formation can be altered significantly. However, it is difficult to evaluate these variations using microseismic field data. In this study, we conduct a hydro-fracturing experiment using Longmaxi shale, which is a major formation for shale-gas production in China, to simulate the water injection and rock fracturing procedure. The variation of the velocity and attenuation for primary/secondary (P/S) ultrasonic waves was investigated throughout the entire experimental procedure. The results show that the attenuation is more sensitive to sample rupture than the velocity. However, P-wave attenuation loses sensitivity to the water injection after the fractures are saturated with water. In that case, it is preferable to use S-wave attenuation to identify the opening/closing of the fractures. Based on the experimental results, we can conclude that the variation of the attenuation must be considered during microseismic data processing and interpretation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To analyze the effect of summer ventilation on the thermal performance and energy efficiency of buildings utilizing phase change materials (PCMs), this paper simulated the indoor temperature variation and energy saving performance of buildings constructed with PCM under different ventilation conditions from June to September. With EnergyPlus and degree-day method, 48 ventilation schemes, including eight ventilation periods (3 h per period) and six ventilation quantities (0.5 ac/h to 3 ac/h), were modeled and simulated in five cities located in different climate regions in China. According to the results, it is believed that the simultaneous use of PCM and ventilation can significantly improve the indoor thermal comfort and offer a good energy saving performance in summer. As a Mongolian native medicine and Ewenki folk medicinal plant, Gentianella acuta has been widely used for the treatment of diarrhea, hepatitis, arrhythmia, and coronary heart disease. In the course of investigating efficacy compounds to treat diarrhea using a mouse isolated intestine tissue model, we found 70% EtOH extract of G. acuta whole plants had an inhibitory effect on intestine contraction tension. Here, nineteen constituents, including five new compounds, named as gentiiridosides A (1), B (2), gentilignanoside A (3), (1R)-2,2,3-trimethyl-4-hydroxymethylcyclopent-3-ene-1-methyl-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (4), and (3Z)-3-hexene-1,5-diol 1-O-α-l-arabinopyranosyl(1→6)-β-d-glucopyranoside (5) were obtained from it. The structures of them were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods. Furthermore, the inhibitory effects on motility of mouse isolated intestine tissue of the above mentioned compounds and other thirteen iridoid- and secoiridoid-type monoterpenes (7-10, 13-16, 18, 19, 21, 22, and 25) previously obtained in the plant were analyzed. As results, new compound 5, some secoiridoid-type monoterpenes 7, 10, 12-14, 16, and 17, as well as 7-O-9'-type lignans 31 and 32 displayed significant inhibitory effect on contraction tension at 40 μM. Time-dependent expression of proteins in ovary is important to understand oogenesis in insects. Here, we profiled the proteomes of developing ovaries from Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) to obtain information about ovarian development with particular emphasis on differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) involved in oogenesis. A total of 4838 proteins were identified with an average peptide number of 8.15 and sequence coverage of 20.79%. Quantitative proteomic analysis showed that a total of 612 and 196 proteins were differentially expressed in developing and mature ovaries, respectively. Furthermore, 153, 196 and 59 potential target proteins were highly expressed in early, vitellogenic and mature ovaries and most tested DEPs had the similar trends consistent with the respective transcriptional profiles. These proteins were abundantly expressed in pre-vitellogenic and vitellogenic stages, including tropomyosin, vitellogenin, eukaryotic translation initiation factor, heat shock protein, importin protein, vitelline membrane protein, and chorion protein. Several hormone and signal pathway related proteins were also identified during ovarian development including piRNA, notch, insulin, juvenile, and ecdysone hormone signal pathways. This is the first report of a global ovary proteome of a tephritid fruit fly, and may contribute to understanding the complicate processes of ovarian development and exploring the potentially novel pest control targets. Gubenyiliu II (GYII), a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula used in our hospital, has shown beneficial effects in cancer patients. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of GYII on murine breast cancer models. GYII showed significant inhibitory effects on tumor growth and metastasis in the murine breast cancer model. Additionally, GYII suppressed the proliferation of 4T1 and MCF-7 cells in a dose-dependent manner. A better inhibitory effect on 4T1 cell proliferation and migration was found in the decomposed recipes (DR) of GYII. Moreover, heparanase expression and the degree of angiogenesis were reduced in tumor tissues. Western blot analysis showed decreased expression of heparanase and growth factors in the cells treated with GYII and its decomposed recipes (DR2 and DR3), and thereby a reduction in the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and serine-threonine kinase (AKT). These results suggest that GYII exerts anti-tumor growth and anti-metastatic effects in the murine breast cancer model. The anti-tumor activity of GYII and its decomposed recipes is, at least partly, associated with decreased heparanase and growth factor expression, which subsequently suppressed the activation of the ERK and AKT pathways. Micro-nanoencapsulated phase change materials (M-NEPCMs) are proposed to be useful in liquid desiccant dehumidification by restraining the temperature rise in the moisture-removal process and improving the dehumidification efficiency. In this paper, the n-octadecane M-NEPCMs with desirable thermal properties for internally-cooled dehumidification were fabricated by using compound emulsifiers through the in-situ polymerization method. Melamine-formaldehyde resin was used as the shell material. The effects of the mixing ratio, emulsification methods and amount of the compound emulsifiers on the morphology, size and thermal properties of the M-NEPCMs were investigated experimentally. The optimum weight mixing ratio of the compound emulsifiers is SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate):Tween80 (polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate):Span80 (sorbitan monooleate) = 0.1:0.6:0.3, which achieves the best stability of the n-octadecane emulsion. When the compound emulsifiers are 10 wt. % of the core material, the melting enthalpy of M-NEPCMs reaches its maximum of 145.26 J/g of capsules, with an encapsulation efficiency of 62.88% and a mean diameter of 636 nm. The sub-cooling of the prepared M-NEPCMs is lower than 3 °C, with an acceptable thermal reliability after the thermal cycling test. A pre-emulsification prior to the addition of deionized water in the emulsification is beneficial to the morphology of the capsules, as the phase change enthalpy can be increased by 123.7%. The scavenging process for opposed-piston folded-cranktrain (OPFC) diesel engines can be described by the time evolution of the in-cylinder and exhaust chamber residual gas rates. The relation curve of in-cylinder and exhaust chamber residual gas rate is called scavenging profile, which is calculated through the changes of in-cylinder and exhaust chamber gas compositions determined by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. The scavenging profile is used to calculate the scavenging process by mono-dimensional (1D) simulation. The tracer gas method (TGM) is employed to validate the accuracy of the scavenging profile. At the same time, the gas exchange performance under different intake and exhaust state parameters was examined based on the TGM. The results show that the scavenging process from 1D simulation and experiment match well, which means the scavenging model obtained by CFD simulation performs well and validation of its effectiveness by TGM is possible. The difference between intake and exhaust pressure has a significant positive effect on the gas exchange performance and trapped gas mass, but the pressure difference has little effect on the scavenging efficiency and the trapped air mass if the delivery ratio exceeds 1.4. Ear detection is an important step in ear recognition approaches. Most existing ear detection techniques are based on manually designing features or shallow learning algorithms. However, researchers found that the pose variation, occlusion, and imaging conditions provide a great challenge to the traditional ear detection methods under uncontrolled conditions. This paper proposes an efficient technique involving Multiple Scale Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Networks (Faster R-CNN) to detect ears from 2D profile images in natural images automatically. Firstly, three regions of different scales are detected to infer the information about the ear location context within the image. Then an ear region filtering approach is proposed to extract the correct ear region and eliminate the false positives automatically. In an experiment with a test set of 200 web images (with variable photographic conditions), 98% of ears were accurately detected. Experiments were likewise conducted on the Collection J2 of University of Notre Dame Biometrics Database (UND-J2) and University of Beira Interior Ear dataset (UBEAR), which contain large occlusion, scale, and pose variations.
