This paper illustrates two species in the lichen-forming family Arthoniaceae from southern China, including a new species of Herpothallon, H. fibrosum L.L. Liu & Lu L. Zhang and a new record of Cryptothecia, C. striata G. Thor for China. Herpothallon fibrosum has fluffy, cylindrical pseudoisidia, like a bundle of fiber, and psoromic acid and confluentic acid are present. Furthermore, the new record of Cryptothecia striata has been identified by morphological, anatomical, chemical, and molecular studies. The systematic position of the two species was clarified by the molecular sequence data from the small subunit of the mitochondrial ribosomal DNA (mtSSU). Detailed taxonomic descriptions, chemical characters, comparisons, and discussion of the characteristics of similar species are provided for the two species; the relationship between Cryptothecia and Herpothallon is also discussed here. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), an inflammatory marker, plays an important role in the inflammatory mechanisms of the pathophysiology and progression of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The aim of this study was to identify the potential factors associated with functional prognosis in AIS. A total of 303 AIS patients were enrolled in this study; baseline information of each participant, including demographic characteristics, medical history, laboratory data, and 90-day functional outcome, was collected. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that NLR, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score were found to be independent factors for poor functional outcomes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to estimate the predictive value of the NLR for 90-day functional outcome, with the best predictive cutoff value being 3.06. In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, three models were constructed: Model 1, adjusted for age, sex, SBP, and TOAST classification (AUC = 0.694); Model 2, further adjusted for the NIHSS score at admission (AUC = 0.826); and Model 3, additionally adjusted for the NLR (AUC = 0.829). The NLR at admission was an independent predictor of 90-day prognosis in patients with AIS. Precipitable water vapor (PWV) with high precision and high temporal resolution estimated by Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is widely used in atmospheric research and weather forecasting. However, most previous works are not consensual concerning the characteristics of the PWV at different time scales and the identification of active and break spells during summ er monsoon climate in Guangxi, China. Taking radiosonde (RS) observations as reference, a strong correlation (R > 0.97) exists between GNSS PWV and RS PWV with a mean root mean square error (RMSE) of 2.68 mm. The annual, seasonal, monthly, and diurnal PWV variations of three years (2017, 2018 and 2020) over Guangxi in were comprehensively investigated using 104 GNSS stations and the fifth-generation European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Atmospheric Reanalysis (ERA5). The mean annual bias and RMSE between GNSS PWV and ERA5 PWV are −1.04 mm and 2.63 mm, respectively. The monthly bias and RMSE range are −0.77 to 3.87 mm, 1.32 to 4.45 mm, and the daily range is −1.41 to 1.07 mm and 1.11 to 5.02 mm, respectively. Additionally, the adopted average standardized rainfall anomaly criteria also identified 7/7/3 active spells and 5/3/7 break spells during the summer monsoon (June–September) from 2017 to 2020, respectively. During the three-year period, the daily amplitude ranges for active spells varied from 1.41 to 2.49 mm, 0.69 to 5.4 mm, and 0.88 to 1.41 mm, while the ranges for break spells were 2.45 to 6.76 mm, 1.66 to 8.17 mm, and 1.48 to 2.99 mm, respectively. The results show a superior performance of GNSS PWV compared to ERA5 PWV in Guangxi, and the maximum, minimum and occurrence time of PWV anomaly vary slightly with the season and the topography of stations. Despite temperature primarily exhibiting a negative correlation with rainfall, acting as a dampener, a positive correlation remains evident between PWV and rainfall. Therefore, densely distributed GNSS stations exhibit excellent capabilities in quantifying atmospheric water vapor and facilitating real-time monitoring of small and medium-scale weather phenomena. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a brain disease with a peculiarity of multiformity and an insidious onset. Multiple-target drugs, especially Chinese traditional medicine, have achieved a measure of success in AD treatment. Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth. (Wuzhuyu, WZY, i.e., E. rutaecarpa), a traditional Chinese herb, has been identified as an effective drug to cure migraines. To our surprise, our in silico study showed that rather than migraines, Alzheimer's disease was the primary disease to which the E. rutaecarpa active compounds were targeted. Correspondingly, a behavioral experiment showed that E. rutaecarpa extract could improve impairments in learning and memory in AD model mice. However, the mechanism underlying the way that E. rutaecarpa compounds target AD is still not clear. For this purpose, we employed methods of pharmacology networking and molecular docking to explore this mechanism. We found that E. rutaecarpa showed significant AD-targeting characteristics, and alkaloids of E. rutaecarpa played the main role in binding to the key nodes of AD. Our research detected that E. rutaecarpa affects the pathologic development of AD through the serotonergic synapse signaling pathway (SLC6A4), hormones (PTGS2, ESR1, AR), anti-neuroinflammation (SRC, TNF, NOS3), transcription regulation (NR3C1), and molecular chaperones (HSP90AA1), especially in the key nodes of PTGS2, AR, SLCA64, and SRC. Graveoline, 5-methoxy-N, N-dimethyltryptamine, dehydroevodiamine, and goshuyuamide II in E. rutaecarpa show stronger binding affinities to these key proteins than currently known preclinical and clinical drugs, showing a great potential to be developed as lead molecules for treating AD. The visceral adiposity index (VAI) is related to the occurrence of various cardiometabolic diseases, atherosclerosis, and stroke. However, few studies have analyzed the impact on the short-term prognosis of stroke. We assessed the effect of VAI on short-term prognoses in patients with acute ischemic stroke through a retrospective cohort study of 225 patients with acute stroke who were admitted to the neurological intensive care unit of our hospital. We collected metabolic indicators (blood pressure, fasting glucose, lipids), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, and other disease evaluation indicators on 197 patients who were screened for inclusion. VAI was calculated by using baseline data (sex, height, weight, waist circumference (WC)). We assessed functional recovery according to modified Rankin scale scores after 90 days. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to calculate the VAI cutoff value that affects short-term outcomes. A nomogram that can predict the risk of short-term mortality in patients with acute ischemic stroke was drawn. In total, 28 patients died within 90 days. Those patients had higher VAI (p = 0.000), higher triglyceride (TG) (p = 0.020) and NIHSS scores (p = 0.000), and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (p = 0.000) than patients who survived. VAI had higher predictive value of short-term mortality than did body mass index (BMI), body fat mass index (BFMI), and WC. VAI and NIHSS scores were independent risk factors for the short-term mortality of patients with stroke. Patients with a VAI > 2.355 had a higher risk of short-term mortality. VAI has a predictive value higher than that of traditional metabolic indicators such as BMI, BFMI, and WC. As a technique for accelerating and stabilizing training, the batch normalization (BN) is widely used in deep learning. However, BN cannot effectively estimate the mean and the variance of samples when training/fine-tuning with small batches of data on resource-constrained devices. It will lead to a decrease in the accuracy of the deep learning model. In the fruit fly olfactory system, the algorithm based on the "negative image" habituation model can filter redundant information and improve numerical stability. Inspired by the circuit mechanism, we propose a novel normalization method, the habituation normalization (HN). HN first eliminates the "negative image" obtained by habituation and then calculates the statistics for normalizing. It solves the problem of accuracy degradation of BN when the batch size is small. The experiment results show that HN can speed up neural network training and improve the model accuracy on vanilla LeNet-5, VGG16, and ResNet-50 in the Fashion MNIST and CIFAR10 datasets. Compared with four standard normalization methods, HN keeps stable and high accuracy in different batch sizes, which shows that HN has strong robustness. Finally, the applying HN to the deep learning-based EEG signal application system indicates that HN is suitable for the network fine-tuning and neural network applications under limited computing power and memory. The classic E-Bayesian estimation methods can only derive point estimation of the reliability parameters. In this paper, an improved E-Bayesian estimation method is proposed to evaluate product reliability under heavily censored data, which can achieve both point and confidence interval estimation for the reliability parameters. Firstly, by analyzing the concavity & convexity and function characteristics of the Weibull distribution, the value of product failure probability is limited to a certain range. Secondly, an improved weighted least squares method is utilized to construct the confidence interval estimation model of reliability parameters. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can significantly improve the calculation speed and estimation accuracy with just very few robustness reductions. A free-induction-decay (FID) type optically-pumped rubidium atomic magnetometer driven by a radio-frequency (RF) magnetic field is presented in this paper. Influences of parameters, such as the temperature of rubidium vapor cell, the power of pump beam, and the strength of RF magnetic field and static magnetic field on the amplitude and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the FID signal, have been investigated in the time domain and frequency domain. At the same time, the sensitivities of the magnetometer for the single-pass and the triple-pass probe beam cases have been compared by changing the optical path of the interaction between probe beam and atomic ensemble. Compared with the sensitivity of ∼21.2 pT/ Hz 1 / 2 in the case of the single-pass probe beam, the amplitude of FID signal in the case of the triple-pass probe beam has been significantly enhanced, and the sensitivity has been improved to ∼13.4 pT/ Hz 1 / 2 . The research in this paper provids a reference for the subsequent study of influence of different buffer gas pressure on the FWHM and also a foundation for further improving the sensitivity of FID rubidium atomic magnetometer by employing a polarization-squeezed light as probe beam, to achieve a sensitivity beyond the photo-shot-noise level. With the successful development of unconventional hydrocarbons, the production of unconventional hydrocarbons has increased rapidly. However, a single conventional or unconventional model is not suitable for the mechanism of hydrocarbon accumulation in a given basin or sag. Based on data from drilling, logging, and geophysical analysis, the hydrocarbon accumulation mechanism in the Hari sag in the Yingen-Ejinaqi basin, China, was analyzed. There are three sets of source rocks in the Hari sag: the K1y source rocks were evaluated as having excellent source rock potential with low thermal maturity and kerogen Type I-II1; the K1b2 source rocks were evaluated as having good source rock potential with mature to highly mature stages and kerogen Type II1-II2; and the K1b1 source rocks were evaluated as having moderate source rock potential with mature to highly mature stages and kerogen Type II1-II2. Reservoir types were found to be conventional sand reservoirs, unconventional carbonate-shale reservoirs, and volcanic rock reservoirs. There were two sets of fault-lithologic traps in the Hari sag, which conform to the intra-source continuous hydrocarbon accumulation model and the approaching-source discontinuous hydrocarbon accumulation model. Real-time matching of millimeter wave (mmWave) narrow beams is a great challenge in dynamic vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) environments due to the mobility of vehicles. In this paper, a novel beam search strategy based on spectrum-environment awareness is proposed. Combining the technique of label iterative optimization with three-dimensional (3D) grid encoding, the strategy treats the optimal beam pair indexes (BPIs) as labels and encodes the environments as features. Three-dimensional grid encoding is a symmetry-based environmental coding technology. A new Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model is also constructed, which is trained by the features. The situational beam search of actual vehicles is performed under the trained CNN model. As a result, real-time mmWave narrow beam matching can be achieved. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the beam search overhead and improve the efficiency while guaranteeing the matching accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in electric vehicles, energy storage power stations, and many other applications. Accurate and reliable monitoring of battery health status and remaining capacity is the key to establish a lithium-ion cell management system. In this paper, based on a Bayesian optimization algorithm, a deep neural network is structured to evaluate the whole charging curve of the battery using partial charging curve data as input. A 0.74 Ah battery is used for experiments, and the effect of different input data lengths is also investigated to check the high flexibility of the approach. The consequences show that using only 20 points of partial charging data as input, the whole charging profile of a cell can be exactly predicted with a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of less than 19.16 mAh (2.59% of the nominal capacity of 0.74 Ah), and its mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is less than 1.84%. In addition, critical information including battery state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) can be extracted in this way to provide a basis for safe and long-lasting battery operation. As a fruit tree with great economic value, apple is widely cultivated in China. However, apple leaf spot disease causes significant damage to apple quality and economic value. In our study, we found that MdMYB6-like is a transcription factor without auto-activation activity and with three alternative spliced variants. Among them, MdMYB6-like-β responded positively to the pathogen infection. Overexpression of MdMYB6-like-β increased the lignin content of leaves and improved the pathogenic resistance of apple flesh callus. In addition, all three alternative spliced variants of MdMYB6-like could bind to the promoter of MdBGLU H. Therefore, we believe that MdMYB6-like plays an important role in the infection process of the pathogen and lays a solid foundation for breeding disease-resistant cultivars of apple in the future. Cryptothecia and Myriostigma are important elements of crustose lichen communities in tropical to subtropical forests, but little research has been done on these two genera in China. Morphological and molecular phylogenetic approaches to investigate species diversity of Cryptothecia and Myriostigma from Southern China were carried out in this study. We find five species of Cryptothecia and Myriostigma in our study, including three new species (M. flavescens, M. hainana and M. laxipunctata) and two new records (C. bartlettii and C. inexspectata). In addition, a phylogenetic tree based on mtSSU, RPB2 and nLSU illustrates the placement of the five species and supports the delimitation of the three new taxa. Detailed descriptions of morphological, ecological and chemical characteristics and illustrations are provided for every species. Although subjective well-being has been widely discussed as being one of the important indicators of clinical depression, few studies have explored how it relates to trait depression. In particular, increasing the number of positive experiences has long been a potential goal for depression-related clinical interventions, but the mechanisms by which such interventions work in countering depression have been poorly studied. Grounded in the cognitive theory of depression, the current study aimed to address this specific gap by testing the mediating effects of community feeling and self-compassion between trait depression and subjective well-being. A survey of 783 college students found that trait depression was not only able to directly and negatively predict individual subjective well-being but also indirectly predict individual subjective well-being through the mediating role of community feeling and self-compassion alone and through the chain mediating role of self-compassion from community feeling. These findings reveal the internal mechanisms of trait depression that, to some extent, impede subjective well-being and offer certain guiding significance for the self-regulation of interventions for clinical and non-clinical individuals with trait depression. Simple Summary: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a primary malignant tumor of bone. Macropinocytosis, a form of non-selective nutrient endocytosis, has received increasing attention as a novel target for cancer therapy, yet its role in OS cells remains obscure. Benzethonium chloride (BZN) is an FDA-approved antiseptic and bactericide with broad-spectrum anticancer effects. Here, we described that BZN suppressed the proliferation, migration, and invasion of OS cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, BZN repressed the ERK1/2 signaling pathway, and the ERK1/2 activator partially neutralized the inhibitory effect of BZN on OS cells. Subsequently, we demonstrated that OS cells might employ macropinocytosis as a compensatory survival mechanism in response to BZN. Remarkably, macropinocytosis inhibitors enhanced the anti-OS effect of BZN in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, our results suggest that BZN may inhibit OS cells by repressing the ERK1/2 signaling pathway and propose a potential strategy to enhance the BZN-induced inhibitory effect by suppressing macropinocytosis. Hsa-miR-1587 has been found to be capable of forming G-quadruplex structures and is overexpressed in multiple cancer cell lines. Here, we explored the interactions between miR-1587 and proteins. HuProt™ human proteome microarray was utilized to screen the binding proteins, and it was discovered that CASK could bind to miR-1587 on the base of the G-quadruplex structure. Moreover, reelin and p21, which are downstream of CASK, were downregulated both transcriptionally and translationally by miR-1587, uncovered by q-RT-PCR and Western blot assays. Bioinformatic analysis was performed on STRING and Panther platforms, leading to the discovery that miR-1587 may be involved in intracellular metabolic and transcriptional physiological processes. The plastic deformation of TWIP steel is greatly inhibited during the expansion process. The stress–strain curves obtained through expansion experiments and observations of fracture morphology confirmed the low plastic behavior of TWIP steel during expansion deformation. Through an analysis of the mechanical expansion model, it was found that the expansion process has a lower stress coefficient and a faster strain rate than stretching, which inhibits the plasticity of TWIP steel during expansion deformation. Using metallographic microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and EBSD to observe the twin morphology during expansion deformation and tensile deformation, it was found that expansion deformation has a higher twin density, which is manifested in a denser twin arrangement and a large number of twin deliveries in the microscopic morphology. During the expansion deformation process, dislocation slips are hindered by twins, the free path of the slips is reduced, and dislocations accumulate significantly. The accumulation area is the initial point of crack expansion. The results show that the significant dislocation accumulation caused by the delivery of a large number of twins under expansion deformation is the main reason for the decrease in the plasticity of TWIP steel. Betalains are water-soluble nitrogen-containing pigments with multiple bioactivities. Pitaya is the only large-scale commercially grown fruit containing abundant betalains for consumers. However, the upstream regulators in betalain biosynthesis are still not clear. In this study, HmoWRKY40, a novel WRKY transcription factor, was obtained from the transcriptome data of pitaya (Hylocereus monacanthus). HmoWRKY40 is a member of the Group IIa WRKY family, containing a conserved WRKY motif, and it is located in the nucleus. The betalain contents and expression levels of HmoWRKY40 increased rapidly during the coloration of pitaya and reached their maximums on the 23rd day after artificial pollination (DAAP). Yeast one-hybrid and transient expression assays showed that HmoWRKY40 could bind and activate the promoter of HmoCYP76AD1. Silencing the HmoWRKY40 gene resulted in a significant reduction of betacyanin contents. These results indicate that HmoWRKY40 transcriptionally activates HmoCYP76AD, which is involved in the regulation of pitaya betalain biosynthesis. Presently, there is a lack of effective blood-based biomarkers facilitating the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Thus, we aimed to investigate novel methylation markers for HCC diagnosis, and explore relationships between biomarker methylation and clinicopathology of HCC. The methylation status of the SCAN domain containing three (SCAND3) and myosin 1g (Myo1g) genes in HCC cell lines and tissues were detected by digital droplet PCR. The serum SCAND3 and Myo1g methylation levels were analyzed in HCC-afflicted patients and unafflicted controls. The results indicated SCAND3 and Myo1g methylation were abnormally high in the HCC cell lines and tissues. The values of serum SCAND3, Myo1g, and SCAND3 + Myo1g methylation with respect to facilitating the detection, and early detection of HCC were better than for alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) alone. Furthermore, when we combined SCAND3 + Myo1g with AFP, a high sensitivity and specificity resulted. Notably, in the AFP-negative HCC group, the methylation of SCAND3 and Myo1g also showed an excellent diagnostic performance. Besides this, a high serum SCAND3 methylation level was an independent risk factor for predicting portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) in HCC patients (OR = 4.746, p = 0.013). Finally, SCAND3 and Myo1g enhanced the HCC diagnostics as noninvasive serum methylation biomarkers, and the SCAND3 methylation status effectively indicated HCC accompanied by PVTT. Surges in sympathetic activity should be a major contributor to the frequent occurrence of cardiovascular events towards the end of nocturnal sleep. We aimed to investigate whether the analysis of hypnopompic heart rate variability (HRV) could assist in the prediction of cardiovascular disease (CVD). 2217 baseline CVD-free subjects were identified and divided into CVD group and non-CVD group, according to the presence of CVD during a follow-up visit. HRV measures derived from time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis and nonlinear analysis were employed to characterize cardiac functioning. Machine learning models for both long-term and short-term CVD prediction were then constructed, based on hypnopompic HRV metrics and other typical CVD risk factors. CVD was associated with significant alterations in hypnopompic HRV. An accuracy of 81.4% was achieved in short-term prediction of CVD, demonstrating a 10.7% increase compared with long-term prediction. There was a decline of more than 6% in the predictive performance of short-term CVD outcomes without HRV metrics. The complexity of hypnopompic HRV, measured by entropy-based indices, contributed considerably to the prediction and achieved greater importance in the proposed models than conventional HRV measures. Immunity is a defensive response that fights disease by identifying and destroying harmful substances or microbiological toxins. Several factors, including work-related stress, pollution, and immunosuppressive agents, contribute to low immunity and poor health. Native peptides, a new class of immunoregulatory agents, have the potential for treating immunodeficiencies, malignancies, and infections. However, the potential cytotoxicity and low immunoregulatory activity and stability of native peptides have prevented their development. Therefore, we designed three hybrid peptides (LTAa, LTAb, and LTAc) by combining a characteristic fragment of LL-37 with an active Tα1 center that included Tα1 (17–24), Tα1 (20–25), and Tα1 (20–27). The best hybrid peptide (LTAa), according to molecule docking and in vitro experiments, had improved immunoregulatory activity and stability with minimal cytotoxicity. We investigated the immunoregulatory effects and mechanisms of LTAa using a cyclophosphamide-immunosuppressed murine model. LTAa effectively reversed immunosuppression by enhancing immune organ development, activating peritoneal macrophage phagocytosis, regulating T lymphocyte subsets, and increasing cytokine (tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1β) and immunoglobulin (IgA, IgG, and IgM) contents. Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a highly prevalent sleep disorder, is closely related to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Our previous work demonstrated that Shannon entropy of the degree distribution (EDD), obtained from the network domain of heart rate variability (HRV), might be a potential indicator for CVD. Method: To investigate the potential association between OSA and EDD, OSA patients and healthy controls (HCs) were identified from a sleep study database. Then EDD was calculated from electrocardiogram (ECG) signals during sleep, followed by cross-sectional comparisons between OSA patients and HCs, and longitudinal comparisons from baseline to follow-up visits. Furthermore, for OSA patients, the association between EDD and OSA severity, measured by apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), was also analyzed. Results: Compared with HCs, OSA patients had significantly increased EDD during sleep. A positive correlation between EDD and the severity of OSA was also observed. Although the value of EDD became larger with aging, it was not OSA-specified. Conclusion: Increased EDD derived from ECG signals during sleep might be a potential dynamic biomarker to identify OSA patients from HCs, which may be used in screening OSA with high risk before polysomnography is considered. Intestinal inflammation is an inflammatory disease resulting from immune dysregulation in the gut. It can increase the risk of enteric cancer, which is a common malignancy globally. As a new class of anti-inflammatory agents, native peptides have potential for use in the treatment of several intestinal inflammation conditions; however, their potential cytotoxicity and poor anti-inflammatory activity and stability have prevented their development. Hybridization has been proposed to overcome this problem. Thus, in this study, we designed a hybrid peptide (LL-37-TP5, LTP) by combing the active centre of LL-37 (13–36) with TP5. The half-life and cytotoxicity were tested in vitro, and the hybrid peptide showed a longer half-life and lower cytotoxicity than its parental peptides. We also detected the anti-inflammatory effects and mechanisms of LTP on Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal inflammation in murine model. The results showed that LTP effectively prevented LPS-induced weight loss, impairment of intestinal tissues, leukocyte infiltration, and histological evidence of inflammation. Additionally, LTP decreased the levels of tumour necrosis factor-alpha, interferon-gamma, and interleukin-6; increased the expression of zonula occludens-1 and occludin; and reduced permeability in the jejunum of LPS-treated mice. Notably, LTP appeared to be more potent than the parental peptides LL-37 and TP5. The anti-inflammatory effects of LTP may be associated with the neutralization of LPS, inhibition of oxidative stress, and inhibition of the NF-κB signalling pathway. Asian dust (AD) events and total suspended particles (TSPs) were observed at the Kanazawa University Wajima Air Monitoring Station (KUWAMS), a Japanese background site, during the East Asian winter monsoon periods (from November to May of the following year) from 2010 to 2021. Nine kinds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined in each TSP sample. In this study, a total of 54 AD events were observed. According to the different pathways of long-range transportation, AD events were divided into AD-high events (transported at higher altitudes, approximately 4000 m) and AD-low events (transported at lower altitudes, approximately 2500 m). The TSP concentrations increased sharply in the AD events and were higher in the AD-high events (39.8 ± 19.5 μg/m3) than in the AD-low events (23.5 ± 10.5 μg/m3). AD did not have a significant effect on the ΣPAHs characteristic variation, as ΣPAHs (ΣPAHs = fluoranthene, pyrene, benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[ghi]perylene, and indeno [1,2,3-cd]pyrene) concentrations in non-AD periods, AD-high events, and AD-low events were 543 ± 374, 404 ± 221, and 436 ± 265 pg/m3, respectively. The PAH compositions were also consistent. As a result, the TSP concentration was affected by the input air mass transported at higher altitudes from the desert region while the PAH concentration was impacted by the air mass at lower altitudes, which carried the PAHs emitted from fossil fuels and biomass combustion in northeastern China. Moreover, the health risks of PAHs were calculated with the inhalation lifetime cancer risk, which ranged from 10−6 to 10−5 ng/m3, indicating a potential carcinogenic risk at the KUWAMS during the East Asian winter monsoon periods. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the value of a serum metabolomics-based metabolic signature for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) patients, thereby assisting clinical decisions. Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 320 LA-NPC patients were randomly divided into a training set (ca. 70%; n = 224) and a validation set (ca. 30%; n = 96). Serum samples were analyzed using widely targeted metabolomics. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify candidate metabolites related to progression-free survival (PFS). Patients were categorized into high-risk and low-risk groups based on the median metabolic risk score (Met score), and the PFS difference between the two groups was compared using Kaplan–Meier curves. The predictive performance of the metabolic signature was evaluated using the concordance index (C-index) and the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC), and a comprehensive nomogram was constructed using the Met score and other clinical factors. Results: Nine metabolites were screened to build the metabolic signature and generate the Met score, which effectively separated patients into low- and high-risk groups. The C-index in the training and validation sets was 0.71 and 0.73, respectively. The 5-year PFS was 53.7% (95% CI, 45.12–63.86) in the high-risk group and 83.0% (95%CI, 76.31–90.26) in the low-risk group. During the construction of the nomogram, Met score, clinical stage, pre-treatment EBV DNA level, and gender were identified as independent prognostic factors for PFS. The predictive performance of the comprehensive model was better than that of the traditional model. Particulate matter-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitro-PAHs (NPAHs) were first systematically studied in downtown (XT), suburban (GL) and rural (DA) sites in winter and summer in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 2019 to 2022. The mean concentrations of PAHs and NPAHs ranged from 0.76 ng m−3 to 50.2 ng m−3 and 6.07 pg m−3 to 1.95 ng m−3, respectively. The concentrations of PAHs and NPAHs in winter were higher than in summer, except for NPAHs in XT. We found the benzo[a]pyrene (BaP)/benzo[ghi]perylene (BgPe) ratio could effectively identify biomass burning in this study, in which a higher [BaP]/[BgPe] value indicates a greater effect of biomass burning on PAHs and NPAHs. The results indicated that atmospheric PAHs and NPAHs were mainly affected by motor vehicles (especially the unique motorcycles in Southeast Asia) in the summer in Hanoi. In winter, all sites were affected by the burning of rice straw to varying degrees, especially DA. The incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) in Hanoi was first determined through ingestion, inhalation and dermal absorption. The results showed that residents in Hanoi faced high health risks, while females experienced higher health risks than males. The aim of this study was to develop an effective carbonaceous solid acid for synthesizing green fuel additive through esterification of lignocellulose-derived levulinic acid (LA) and n-butanol. Two different sulfonated carbons were prepared from glucose-derived amorphous carbon (GC400) and commercial active carbon (AC400). They were contrastively studied by a series of characterizations (N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and NH3 temperature programmed desorption). The results indicated that GC400 possessed stronger acidity and higher -SO3H density than AC400, and the amorphous structure qualified GC400 for good swelling capacity in the reaction solution. Assessment experiments showed that GC400 displayed remarkably higher catalytic efficiency than AC400 and other typical solid acids (HZSM-5, Hβ, Amberlyst-15 and Nafion-212 resin). Up to 90.5% conversion of LA and 100% selectivity of n-butyl levulinate could be obtained on GC400 under the optimal reaction conditions. BRD9 and TAF1(2) have been regarded as significant targets of drug design for clinically treating acute myeloid leukemia, malignancies, and inflammatory diseases. In this study, multiple short molecular dynamics simulations combined with the molecular mechanics generalized Born surface area method were employed to investigate the binding selectivity of three ligands, 67B, 67C, and 69G, to BRD9/TAF1(2) with IC50 values of 230/59 nM, 1400/46 nM, and 160/410 nM, respectively. The computed binding free energies from the MM-GBSA method displayed good correlations with that provided by the experimental data. The results indicate that the enthalpic contributions played a critical factor in the selectivity recognition of inhibitors toward BRD9 and TAF1(2), indicating that 67B and 67C could more favorably bind to TAF1(2) than BRD9, while 69G had better selectivity toward BRD9 over TAF1(2). In addition, the residue-based free energy decomposition approach was adopted to calculate the inhibitor–residue interaction spectrum, and the results determined the gatekeeper (Y106 in BRD9 and Y1589 in TAF1(2)) and lipophilic shelf (G43, F44, and F45 in BRD9 and W1526, P1527, and F1528 in TAF1(2)), which could be identified as hotspots for designing efficient selective inhibitors toward BRD9 and TAF1(2). In this study, the levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitro-PAHs (NPAHs) in PM2.5 samples were determined from 2020 to 2021 in Singapore. For analysis convenience, the sampling period was classified according to two monsoon periods and the inter-monsoon period. Considering Singapore's typically tropical monsoon climate, the four seasons were divided into the northeast monsoon season (NE), southwest monsoon season (SW), presouthwest monsoon season (PSW) and prenortheast monsoon season (PNE)). The PM2.5 concentration reached 17.1 ± 8.38 μg/m3, which was slightly higher than that in 2015, and the average PAH concentration continuously declined during the sampling period compared to that reported in previous studies in 2006 and 2015. This is the first report of NPAHs in Singapore indicating a concentration of 13.1 ± 10.7 pg/m3. The seasonal variation in the PAH and NPAH concentrations in PM2.5 did not obviously differ owing to the unique geographical location and almost uniform climate changes in Singapore. Diagnostic ratios revealed that PAHs and NPAHs mainly originated from local vehicle emissions during all seasons. 2-Nitropyrene (2-NP) and 2-nitrofluoranthene (2-NFR) in Singapore were mainly formed under the daytime OH-initiated reaction pathway. Combined with airmass backward trajectory analysis, the Indonesia air mass could have influenced Singapore's air pollution levels in PSW. However, these survey results showed that no effect was found on the concentrations of PAHs and NPAHs in PM2.5 in Indonesia during SW because of Indonesia's efforts in the environment. It is worth noting that air masses from southern China could impact the PAH and NPAH concentrations according to long-range transportation during the NE. The results of the total incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) via three exposure routes (ingestion, inhalation and dermal absorption) for males and females during the four seasons indicated a low long-term potential carcinogenic risk, with values ranging from 10−10 to 10−7. This study systematically explains the latest pollution conditions, sources, and potential health risks in Singapore, and comprehensively analyses the impact of the tropical monsoon system on air pollution in Singapore, providing a new perspective on the transmission mechanism of global air pollution. Background: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common complication of stroke, which seriously affects the functional outcome of patients. Systemic low-grade inflammation associated with PSD has been shown to occur at several months to years, however, whether these inflammatory markers predicted PSD at an acute stage of stroke is controversial. Method: A total of 625 patients with acute ischemic stroke (219 female, 35.40%) were included in this study. PSD was diagnosed using the 17-item Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) at 7 days following discharge (7–14 days after stroke onset). Multivariable logistic regression analysis was applied to build a prediction model for PSD at discharge. Discrimination and calibration of the model were assessed by C-index, calibration plot. Internal validation was conducted using bootstrapping validation. Results: At discharge of hospitalization, 95 patients (15.20%) were diagnosed with PSD. Multivariable logistic regression suggested that female gender (OR = 2.043, 95% CI = 1.287–3.245, p = 0.002), baseline NIHSS (OR = 1.108, 95% CI = 1.055–1.165, p < 0.001) and fibrinogen (OR = 1.388, 95% CI = 1.129–1.706, p = 0.002) were independent predictors for PSD at discharge. The cut-off of the fibrinogen plasma level was 3.08 g/L. These predictors were included in the nomogram. The model displayed good discrimination, with a C-index of 0.730 (95% CI = 0.683–0.777) and good calibration. Conclusion: Female gender, baseline stroke severity and a higher level of fibrinogen were independently associated with PSD at discharge. Two Asian dust (AD) events were observed in March 2021 (AD1: 16 March 2021 00:00 UTC~17 March 2021 12:00 UTC and AD2: 28 March 2021 00:00 UTC~31 March 2021 12:00 UTC). To determine the chemical characteristics of water-soluble inorganic ions (WSIIs) in different types of Asian dust, the total suspended particulates (TSP) were collected at Kanazawa University Wajima Air Monitoring Station (KUWAMS), a background site in Japan from 27 February to 4 March, 2021. Based on the lidar observations and the backwards trajectory analysis results, AD events were divided into two types: ADN (aerosols were mainly mineral dust) and ADP (aerosols were mixtures of spherical particles). During ADs, the concentrations of the TSP and WSII increased, with the highest TSP concentration in ADN (38.6 μg/m3) and the highest WSII concentration in ADP (5.82 μg/m3). The increase in (cations)/(anions) during AD indicates that the input of AD aerosol buffered the aerosol acidity. Additionally, a significant increase in Cl depletion, along with ADN events, was found (Cl depletion = 73.8%). To comprehensively analyse the different types of ADs on WSIIs, we refer to the previous data from 2010 to 2015 at KUWAMS. As a result, the increased Cl depletion was caused by the heterogeneous reaction of HNO3 with sea salt when the air mass passed over the Japanese Sea. Additionally, the chemical form of SO42− was highly dependent on the source and pathway, while SO42− mainly came from natural soil dust in ADN and from anthropogenic emissions in ADP. The rhizospheric bacterium Pseudomonas protegens Pf-5 can colonize the seed and root surfaces of plants, and can protect them from pathogen infection. Secondary metabolites, including lipopeptides and polyketides produced by Pf-5, are involved in its biocontrol activity. We isolated a crude extract from Pf-5. It exhibited significant surface activity and strong antibacterial activity against Pantoea ananatis DZ-12, which causes maize brown rot on leaves. HPLC analysis combined with activity tests showed that the polyketide pyoluteorin in the crude extract participated in the suppression of DZ-12 growth, and that the lipopeptide orfamide A was the major biosurfactant in the crude extract. Further studies indicated that the pyoluteorin in the crude extract significantly suppressed the biofilm formation of DZ-12, and it induced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in DZ-12 cells. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy observation revealed that the crude extract severely damaged the pathogen cells and caused cytoplasmic extravasations and hollowing of the cells. The pathogenicity of DZ-12 on maize leaves was significantly reduced by the crude extract from Pf-5 in a dose-dependent manner. Nonwoven fiber materials are materials with multifunctional purposes, and are widely used to make masks for preventing the new Coronavirus Disease 2019. Because of the complexity and particularity of their structure, it becomes difficult to model the penetration and flow characteristics of liquid in nonwoven fiber materials. In this paper, a novel seepage time soft sensor model of nonwoven fabric, based on Monte Carlo (MC), integrating extreme learning machine (ELM) (MCELM) is proposed. The Monte Carlo method is used to expand data samples. Then, an ELM method is used to establish the prediction model of the dyeing time of the nonwoven fiber material overlaps with the porous medium, as well as the insertion degree and height of the different quantity of hides. Compared with the back propagation (BP) neural network and radial basis function (RBF) neural network, the results show that the prediction model based on the MCELM method has significant power in terms of accuracy and prediction speed, which is conducive to the precise and rapid manufacture of nonwoven fiber materials in practical applications between liquid seepage characteristics and structural characteristics of porous media. Furthermore, the relationship between the proposed models has certain value for predicting the behavior and use of nonwoven fiber materials with different structural characteristics and related research processes. The hybrid peptide cecropin A (1–8)–LL37 (17–30) (C–L), derived from the sequence of cecropin A (C) and LL-37 (L), showed significantly increased antibacterial activity and minimized hemolytic activity than C and L alone. To obtain high-level production of C–L, the deoxyribonucleic acid sequence encoding C–L with preferred codons was cloned into pET-SUMO to construct a fusion expression vector, and overexpressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli) BL21 (DE3). The maximum fusion protein (92% purity) was obtained with the yield of 89.14 mg/L fermentation culture after purification with Ni-NTA Sepharose column. The hybrid C–L was cleaved from the fusion protein by SUMO-protease, and 17.54 mg/L pure active C–L was obtained. Furthermore, the purified C–L showed identical antibacterial and hemolytic activity to synthesized C–L. Stability analysis results exhibited that the activity of C–L changed little below 80 °C for 20 min, but when the temperature exceeded 80 °C, a significant decrease was observed. Varying the pH from 5.0 to 10.0 did not appear to influence the activity of C–L, however, pH below 4.0 decreased the antibacterial activity of C–L rapidly. Under the challenge of several proteases (pepsin, trypsin, and proteinase K), the functional activity of C–L was maintained over 50%. In summary, this study not only supplied an effective approach for high-level production of hybrid peptide C–L, but paved the way for its further exploration in controlling infectious diseases of farm animals or even humans. CLP is a novel hybrid peptide derived from CM4, LL37 and TP5, with significantly reduced hemolytic activity and increased antibacterial activity than parental antimicrobial peptides. To avoid host toxicity and obtain high-level bio-production of CLP, we established a His-tagged SUMO fusion expression system in Escherichia coli. The fusion protein can be purified using a Nickel column, cleaved by TEV protease, and further purified in flow-through of the Nickel column. As a result, the recombinant CLP with a yield of 27.56 mg/L and a purity of 93.6% was obtained. The purified CLP exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against gram+ and gram- bacteria. Furthermore, the result of propidium iodide staining and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that CLP can induce the membrane permeabilization and cell death of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) K88. The analysis of thermal stability results showed that the antibacterial activity of CLP decreases slightly below 70 °C for 30 min. However, when the temperature was above 70 °C, the antibacterial activity was significantly decreased. In addition, the antibacterial activity of CLP was stable in the pH range from 4.0 to 9.0; however, when pH was below 4.0 and over 9.0, the activity of CLP decreased significantly. In the presence of various proteases, such as pepsin, papain, trypsin and proteinase K, the antibacterial activity of CLP remained above 46.2%. In summary, this study not only provides an effective strategy for high-level production of antimicrobial peptides and evaluates the interference factors that affect the biological activity of hybrid peptide CLP, but also paves the way for further exploration of the treatment of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Land cover samples are usually the foundation for supervised classification. Unfortunately, for land cover mapping in large areas, only limited samples can be used due to the time-consuming and labor-intensive sample collection. A novel and practical Object-oriented Iterative Classification method based on Multiple Classifiers Ensemble (OIC-MCE) was proposed in this paper. It systematically integrated object-oriented segmentation, Multiple Classifier Ensemble (MCE), and Iterative Classification (IC). In this method, the initial training samples were updated self-adaptively during the iterative processes. Based on these updated training samples, the inconsistent regions (ICR) in the classification results of the MCE method were reclassified to reduce their uncertainty. Three typical case studies in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) indicate that the overall accuracy of the OIC-MCE method is significantly higher than that of the single classifier. After five iterations, the overall accuracy of the OIC-MCE approach increased by 5.58%–8.38% compared to the accuracy of the traditional MCE method. The spatial distribution of newly added training samples generated by the OIC-MCE approach was relatively uniform. It was confirmed by ten repeated experiments that the OIC-MCE approach has good stability. More importantly, even if the initial sample size reduced by 65%, the quality of the final classification result based on the proposed OIC-MCE approach would not be greatly affected. Therefore, the proposed OIC-MCE approach provides a new solution for land cover mapping with limited samples. Certainly, it is also well suited for land cover mapping with abundant samples.
