Plant height and leaf morphology are considered complex agronomy traits; both are significantly related to nutrient utilization, lodging resistance, and photosynthetic efficiency, which ultimately affect biomass and yield. However, the molecular mechanism of leaf morphogenesis is still unclear. WOX is a group of plant-specific transcription factor families that regulate growth and development, cell division, and differentiation in plants. In the present study, we identified and characterized the m-876 mutant in barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), which exhibited an extreme reduction in leaf width and plant height. Using a map-based cloning strategy, the m-876 mutant was narrowed down to an 11.4 Mb genomic interval on the long arm of chromosome 5. By analyzing the gene annotation information and nucleotide sequences, we found that HvWOX3A (HORVU.MOREX.r3.5HG0467090) had a G-to-A substitution at the second exon in the m-876 mutant, resulting in a change of the coding amino acid from Tryptophan to a premature stop codon at the 200th amino acid position. Remarkably, the mutation of the HvWOX3A gene leads to changes in gene expression in the m-876 mutant. Collectively, our results indicate that the loss function of the HORVU.MOREX.r3.5HG0467090 gene might be responsible for the phenotypic variation in barley mutants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The available information on endotoxin in Chinese households is limited and there is inconsistency regarding its impact on asthma and allergies in children. A case-control study was performed in 324 homes in Tianjin, China. Linear regression analysis was performed to identify the determinants of endotoxin concentrations in household dust. Logistic regression models were employed to investigate the associations of endotoxin concentrations with asthma and allergies in children. Endotoxin concentrations were determined from 284 valid dust samples, ranging from 94 to 11,625 EU/g, with a mean concentration of 3638 EU/g. We found a significant positive association between endotoxin concentrations and children's current asthma. Old houses, ventilation systems without exhaust fans and windows opened infrequently were related to higher concentrations of endotoxins. In conclusion, endotoxin exposure in the home might be a risk factor for current asthma in children. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most severe complications of diabetes mellitus and potentially leads to significant visual impairment and blindness. The complex mechanisms involved in the pathological changes in DR make it challenging to achieve satisfactory outcomes with existing treatments. Diets conducive to glycemic control have been shown to improve outcomes in diabetic patients, thus positioning dietary interventions as promising avenues for DR treatment. Investigations have demonstrated that natural products (NPs) may effectively manage DR. Many types of natural compounds, including saponins, phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, saccharides, alkaloids, and vitamins, have been shown to exert anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-neovascular, and antiapoptotic effects in vivo and in vitro. Nevertheless, the clinical application of NPs still faces challenges, such as suboptimal specificity, poor bioavailability, and a risk of toxicity. Regenerated water serves as a supplementary source for circulating cooling water systems, but it often fosters microbial growth within pipelines. Given its widespread use as a corrosion inhibitor, understanding HEDP's efficacy in microbial environments and its impact on microorganisms is imperative. This study established an iron bacterial system by isolating and enriching iron bacteria. Through a comprehensive approach incorporating corrosion weight loss analysis, XPS analysis, SEM electron microscopy, as well as microbial and electrochemical testing, the corrosion inhibition behavior and mechanism of HEDP within the iron bacterial system were investigated. The findings reveal that within the iron bacterial system, HEDP achieves a corrosion inhibition rate of 76% following four distinct stages—weakening, strengthening, stabilizing, and further strengthening—underscoring its robust corrosion inhibition capability. Moreover, HEDP enhances the density of biofilms and elevates the activation energy of carbon steel interfaces. It alternates with oxygen to continuously suppress the activity of IRB while gradually inhibiting the activity of IOB. This process culminates in a corrosion inhibition mechanism where cathodic inhibition predominates, supported by anodic inhibition as a complementary mechanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the deep well drilling process in the Fukang Depression of the Eastern Junggar Basin, rock fracturing issues and low rate of penetration (ROP) have posed significant challenges to drilling efficiency. Accurate predictions of ROP prior to drilling are of considerable value in this context. Precise predictions enable on-site engineering teams to proactively identify drilling difficulties and anticipate potential complex scenarios, facilitating them in designing preventive measures in advance, such as selecting appropriate drill bits, adjusting drilling parameters, or employing specific drilling techniques to address these issues. This, in turn, enhances drilling efficiency and greatly reduces drilling risks. Traditional mechanical-specific energy drilling rate models, despite their widespread use, exhibit significant disparities with actual results when predicting ROP. These models only consider the influence of drill bits, drilling tools, and some drilling parameters on ROP, failing to adequately account for the variations caused by engineering factors and failing to capture the interrelationships between various parameters, especially when dealing with complex subsurface formations in the Fukang Depression. Random forest is a non-parametric algorithm in the field of machine learning that is suitable for analyzing and predicting ROP affected by various complex and non-linear drilling parameters. This paper establishes a Random forest model based on a dataset containing multiple variables of logging parameters and the actual ROP. The model ranks and assesses the important feature parameters of ROP to reveal their impact. Additionally, the model uses bootstrap sampling and feature random selection to construct multiple decision trees, reducing the risk of overfitting and endowing the model with a high generalization capability. Evaluation metrics indicate that the model exhibits a high prediction accuracy and performs well, significantly improving the accuracy of mechanical drilling rate predictions in the deep wells of the Fukang Depression. Facing extreme pressure from an increasing population and climate degeneration, it is important to explore a green, safe and environmentally sustainable food source, especially for protein-enriched diets. Plant proteins have gained much attention in recent years, ascribing to their high nutritional value and environmental friendliness. In this review, we summarized recent advances in walnut protein with respect to its geographical distribution, structural and physiochemical properties and functional attributes. As a worldwide cultivated and largely consumptive crop, allergies and some physicochemical limitations have also led to a few concerns about walnut protein. Phosphate (Pi) deficiency is one of the most limiting factors for Chinese fir growth and production. Moreover, continuous cultivation of Chinese fir for multiple generations led to the reduction of soil nutrients, which hindered the yield of Chinese fir in southern China. Although NAC (NAM, ATAF, and CUC) transcription factors (TFs) play critical roles in plant development and abiotic stress resistance, it is still unclear how they regulate the response of Chinese fir to phosphate (Pi) starvation. Based on Pi-deficient transcriptome data of Chinses fir root, we identified a NAC transcription factor with increased expression under Pi deficiency, which was obtained by PCR and named ClNAC100. RT-qPCR confirmed that the expression of ClNAC100 in the root of Chinese fir was induced by phosphate deficiency and showed a dynamic change with time. It was positively regulated by ABA and negatively regulated by JA, and ClNAC100 was highly expressed in the roots and leaves of Chinese fir. Transcriptional activation assay confirmed that ClNAC100 was a transcriptional activator. The promoter of ClNAC100 was obtained by genome walking, which was predicted to contain a large number of stress, hormone, and growth-related cis-elements. Tobacco infection was used to verify the activity of the promoter, and the core promoter was located between −1519 bp and −589 bp. We identified 18 proteins bound to the ClNAC100 promoter and 5 ClNAC100 interacting proteins by yeast one-hybrid and yeast two-hybrid, respectively. We speculated that AHL and TIFY family transcription factors, calmodulin, and E3 ubiquitin ligase in these proteins might be important phosphorus-related proteins. Spark ignition (SI) engines fueled with kerosene have broad application prospects in unmanned aviation vehicles. The knock phenomenon of kerosene in SI engines is a huge challenge, leading to a much lower power output than gasoline engines. In this context, the combustion characteristics of kerosene blending with hydrogen are analyzed numerically regarding the working conditions of an SI engine. First, the ignition delay time of a kerosene/hydrogen mixture is estimated for temperatures of 600–1000 K and pressures of 15–35 bar using the Tay mechanism. The effects of hydrogen addition are evaluated with a ratio of 0–0.4. The sensitivities of the main reactions that affect the ignition delay time are discussed. Then, the laminar flame speed is predicted using the HYCHEM-SK mechanism, and the effects of hydrogen addition on the net reaction rates of the main reactions are analyzed. The results indicate that the ignition delay time is shortened and the laminar flame speed is increased as the hydrogen addition ratio rises. Meanwhile, the ignition delay time decreases except for the NTC range, and the laminar flame speed increases evidently as the temperature rises. In addition, the ignition delay time decreases obviously as the pressure increases with a temperature greater than 750 K. However, the laminar flame speed declines at 600 K and 800 K, while an opposite trend exhibits at 1000 K as the pressure rises. The laminar flame speed increases by 23.85–24.82%, while the ignition delay time only decreases by 4.02–3.59% at 1000 K as the hydrogen addition ratio rises from 0 to 0.4, which will be beneficial for knock suppression. Insects use a powerful and complex olfactory recognition system to sense odor molecules in the external environment to guide behavior. A large family of odorant receptors (ORs) mediates the detection of pheromone compounds. Anoplophora glabripennis is a destructive pest that harms broad-leaved tree species. Although olfactory sensation is an important factor affecting the information exchange of A. glabripennis, little is known about the key ORs involved. Here, we identified ninety-eight AglaORs in the Agla2.0 genome and found that the AglaOR gene family had expanded with structural and functional diversity. RT-qPCR was used to analyze the expression of AglaORs in sex tissues and in adults at different developmental stages. Twenty-three AglaORs with antennal-biased expression were identified. Among these, eleven were male-biased and two were female-biased and were more significantly expressed in the sexual maturation stage than in the post-mating stage, suggesting that these genes play a role in sexual communication. Relatively, two female-biased AglaORs were overexpressed in females seeking spawning grounds after mating, indicating that these genes might be involved in the recognition of host plant volatiles that may regulate the selection of spawning grounds. Simple Summary: The lack of efficient methods to extract haemolymph from adult cerambycid beetles limits physiological and biochemical research on these important pest species. To enable the collection of large amounts of pure haemolymph from Cerambycidae adults efficiently and easily, we developed an innovative extraction method, termed net centrifugation. Anoplophora chinensis, Monochamus saltuarius and Saperda populnea, three cerambycid beetle species with substantial differences in adult size, were used to evaluate the newly developed method. Compared with estimates for other commonly used methods for coleopteran haemolymph collection, this method generated a larger amount of pure haemolymph in a shorter time. The net centrifugation method is therefore highly efficient, providing a solid foundation for further studies of cerambycid beetles. Cerambycid beetles (Cerambycidae) are major forest pests, posing a serious threat to the security of forest resources worldwide. Extensive research has focused on the control of cerambycid beetles from physiological and biochemical perspectives. Despite the important roles of insect haemolymph in physiological processes, efficient collection methods for Cerambycidae are lacking. For the efficient and easy collection of large amounts of pure haemolymph from adult cerambycid beetles, a new method, named net centrifugation, was developed. Three species of cerambycid beetles with large differences in size, Anoplophora chinensis, Monochamus saltuarius and Saperda populnea, were selected for the study. Haemolymph was collected by the newly developed net centrifugation method—in which an inner nylon net is used during centrifugation under optimised conditions, and a relatively small wound is generated on the insect—as well as the traditional tearing method and double centrifugation method. Among the three methods evaluated, the net centrifugation method caused the least damage to cerambycid beetles during the whole operation. This method resulted in the most haemolymph from a single beetle, with the lowest turbidity, mostly pure haemocytes in the precipitate, the clearest haemolymph smears by microscopy and the highest quality of RNA extracted from haemocytes. Although cobalt (Co) is indispensable for life, it is toxic to cells when accumulated in excess. The DmeRF system is a well-characterized metal-response system that contributes to Co and nickel resistance in certain bacterial species. The Vibrio parahaemolyticus RIMD 2210633 genome also harbors a dmeRF operon that encodes a multiple antibiotic resistance regulator family transcriptional regulator and a cation diffusion facilitator family protein. Quantitative real-time PCR, growth curves analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, β-galactosidase activity assays, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, and a mouse infection experiment were performed to characterize the function of the DmeRF system in V. parahaemolyticus. Zinc, copper, and Co significantly increase dmeF expression, with Co inducing the greatest increase. DmeF promotes V. parahaemolyticus growth under high-Co conditions. Additionally, increased accumulation of cellular Co in the ΔdmeF mutant indicates that DmeF is potentially involved in Co efflux. Moreover, DmeR represses the dmeRF operon by binding directly to its promoter in the absence of Co. Finally, the DmeRF system was not required for V. parahaemolyticus virulence in mice. Stipe elongation is one of the main characteristics of the postharvest quality deterioration of Flammulina velutipes fruiting bodies. In order to reduce the postharvest stipe elongation of F. velutipes and prolong its shelf life, in this study, using polyethylene (PE) packaging and unpackaged treatments as controls, the effects of a polyethylene nano-packaging on postharvest stipe elongation of F. velutipes were investigated and its regulatory mechanisms were explored from the physiological and biochemical aspects. The results showed that the CO2 content in polyethylene nano-packaging boxes was higher than in control boxes, and the O2 content was lower than in the control group, indicating that nano-packaging could reduce F. velutipes respiration during low-temperature storage. The stipe elongation rate, chitinase activity, and β-1,3-glucanase activities of F. velutipes were lower in the nano-packaging group than in PE-packaged and unpackaged control groups, and the nano-packaging inhibited the increase in chitin and β-glucan, the main components of the cell wall. The levels of auxin (IAA), abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellin (GA), and cytokinin (CTK) were also lower in the nano-packaged group than in controls at most timepoints. After 18 d of storage, polyethylene nano-packaging inhibited the stipe elongation of fruiting bodies, and maintained mushroom quality, with stipe elongation of only 34.7% and 76.7% of PE-packaged and unpackaged control groups, respectively. Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.) Hook) is a widely grown gymnosperm in China. Phosphorus (P) is an indispensable nutrient for the growth of Chinese fir. Inorganic phosphate (Pi) deficiency exists in soils of many Chinese fir planting area regions, and the trees themselves have limited efficiency in utilizing P from the soil. Ethylene is important in regulation responses to nutrient deficiencies. However, little is known about how ethylene signals participate in Pi stress in Chinese fir. A total of six different treatments were performed to reveal the transcript levels of Chinese fir under Pi, ethephon (an ethylene-releasing compound), and CoCl2 (cobalt chloride, an ethylene biosynthesis inhibitor) treatments. We assembled a full-length reference transcriptome containing 22,243 unigenes as a reference for UMI RNA-seq (Digital RNA-seq). There were 586 Differentially Expressed Genes (DEGs) in the Pi starvation (NP) group, while DEGs from additional ethephon or CoCl2 in NP were 708 and 292, respectively. Among the DEGs in each treatment, there were 83 TFs in these treatment groups. MYB (v-myb avian myeloblastosis viral oncogene homolog) family was the most abundant transcription factors (TFs). Three ERF (Ethylene response factor) family genes were identified when only ethylene content was imposed as a variable. Enrichment analysis indicated that the ascorbate and aldarate metabolism pathway plays a key role in resistance to Pi deficiency. Wolfberry (Lycium barbarum L.) is a nutritious and medicinal fruit, and deeply processed products of wolfberry needs to be improved. In this study, nutrition, bioactive compounds, and hepaprotective activity were explored in wolfberry vinegar (WFV). The contents of nutrients including total sugar and protein in WFV samples were 2.46 and 0.27 g/100 mL, respectively. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents in WFV were 2.42 mg GAE/mL and 1.67 mg RE/mL, respectively. p-Hydroxybenzoic acid and m-hydroxycinnamic acid were the main polyphenols in WFV. The antioxidant activity of WFV were 20.176 mM Trolox/L (ABTS), 8.614 mM Trolox/L (FRAP), and 26.736 mM Trolox/L (DPPH), respectively. In addition, WFV treatment effectively alleviated liver injury by improving histopathological changes and reducing liver biochemical indexes in CCl4-treated mice. WFV alleviated oxidative damage by inhibiting oxidative levels and increasing antioxidant levels. Pharmacogenetics research on leukotriene modifiers (LTMs) for asthma has been developing rapidly, although pharmacogenetic testing for LTMs is not yet used in clinical practice. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the impact of pharmacogenomics on LTMs response. Studies published until May 2022 were searched using PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases. Pharmacogenomics/genetics studies of patients with asthma using LTMs with or without other anti-asthmatic drugs were included. Statistical tests of the meta-analysis were performed with Review Manager (Revman, version 5.4, The Cochrane Collaboration, Copenhagen, Denmark) and R language and environment for statistical computing (version 4.1.0 for Windows, R Core Team, Vienna, Austria) software. In total, 31 studies with 8084 participants were included in the systematic review and five studies were also used to perform the meta-analysis. Two included studies were genome-wide association studies (GWAS), which showed different results. Furthermore, none of the SNPs investigated in candidate gene studies were identified in GWAS. In candidate gene studies, the most widely studied SNPs were ALOX5 (tandem repeats of the Sp1-binding domain and rs2115819), LTC4S-444A/C (rs730012), and SLCO2B1 (rs12422149), with relatively inconsistent conclusions. LTC4S-444A/C polymorphism did not show a significant effect in our meta-analysis (AA vs. AC (or AC + CC): −0.06, 95%CI: −0.16 to 0.05, p = 0.31). AA homozygotes had smaller improvements in parameters pertaining to lung functions (−0.14, 95%CI: −0.23 to −0.05, p = 0.002) in a subgroup of patients with non-selective CysLT receptor antagonists and patients without inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) (−0.11, 95%CI: −0.14 to −0.08, p < 0.00001), but not in other subgroups. Variability exists in the pharmacogenomics of LTMs treatment response. Our meta-analysis and systematic review found that LTC4S-444A/C may influence the treatment response of patients taking non-selective CysLT receptor antagonists for asthma, and patients taking LTMs not in combination with ICS for asthma. A localization system is one of the basic requirements for coal mines. Ultra-wideband (UWB), as a technology with broad application prospects, is considered to have great potential in the absence of satellite signals, especially in the underground mine environment, as it can provide rescue assistance. However, state-of-the-art UWB position systems in coal mines cannot efficiently differ the line-of-sight from all communication links, which results in deterioration of the localization accuracy. In this paper, we propose a LOS/NLOS classification method based on a deep learning algorithm. Specifically, we utilize the Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to generate diagnostic data for frame transmission under non-line-of-sight (NLOS) condition. Then, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is adopted to identify the NLOS communication. Finally, the trilateral centroid positioning algorithm (TCPA) based on ranging data is used to verify the effect of our method for a localization system in coal mines. Field experiments show that our method can accurately differ the LOS/NLOS with the accuracy of 91.19%. Inflammatory activation and intestinal flora imbalance play an essential role in the development and progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). Berberine (BBR) has attracted great attention in recent years due to its heath-related benefits in inflammatory disorders and tumors, but the intricate mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. In this study, the effects and the mechanism of BBR on colon cancer were investigated in an azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis-associated carcinogenesis mice model. Our results showed that pre-administration of BBR showed a decrease in weight loss, disease activity index (DAI) score, and the number of colon tumors in mice, compared with the model group. The evidence from pathological examination indicated that the malignancy of intestinal tumors was ameliorated after pre-administration of BBR. Additionally, pre-administration with BBR suppressed the expression of pro-inflammatory factors (interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α) and the cell-proliferation marker Ki67, while expression of the tight junction proteins (ZO-1 and occludin) were increased in colon tissue. Moreover, the levels of critical pathway proteins involved in the inflammatory process (p-STAT3 and p-JNK) and cell cycle regulation molecules (β-catenin, c-Myc and CylinD1) exhibited lower expression levels. Besides, 16S rRNA sequence analysis indicated that pre-administration of BBR increased the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F:M) and the relative abundance of potentially beneficial bacteria, while the abundance of cancer-related bacteria was decreased. Gavage with Lactobacillus rhamnosus can improve the anti-tumor effect of BBR. Overall, pre-administration of BBR exerts preventive effects in colon carcinogenesis, and the mechanisms underlying these effects are correlated with the inhibition of inflammation and tumor proliferation and the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis. SI engines are installed widely in small aircrafts as they have good fuel economy. Currently, these SI engines are fueled with gasoline, although their safety can be improved if kerosene is used. However, the combustion performance of kerosene cannot fulfil the requirements due to the differences in physicochemical properties. This study investigates the ignition delay time of kerosene at a pressure range of 15–35 bar and a temperature range of 600–1000 K. A detailed chemical reaction mechanism is employed for the premixed combustion process. Under the initial conditions of 1000 K and 35 bar, with an equivalence ratio of 1, the total ignition delay time of kerosene is 0.401 ms. The NTC range of kerosene is determined as roughly 750–920 K. Subsequently, the chemical reaction paths with an equivalence ratio of 0.8, 1, and 1.2 and an initial pressure of 15, 20, and 25 bar were analyzed. The rate-determined elementary reactions were obtained based on a sensitivity analysis. The difference between kerosene and gasoline are also compared, and the rate-determining reactions that affect the ignition of kerosene and gasoline are discussed. The study aimed to explore the effects of fortified fermented rice-acid on the antioxidant capacity of mouse serum and the gut microbiota. Hair characteristics, body mass index, intestinal villus height, intestinal crypt depth, serum antioxidant capacity, and gut microbiota of mice were first measured and the correlation between the antioxidant capacity of mouse serum and the gut microbiota was then explored. The mice in the lactic acid bacteria group (L-group), the mixed bacteria group (LY-group), and the rice soup group (R-group) kept their weight well and had better digestion. The mice in the L-group had the better hair quality (dense), but the hair quality in the R-group and the yeast group (Y-group) was relatively poor (sparse). In addition, the inoculation of Lactobacillus paracasei H4-11 (L. paracasei H4-11) and Kluyveromyces marxianus L1-1 (K. marxianus L1-1) increased the villus height/crypt depth of the mice (3.043 ± 0.406) compared to the non-inoculation group (R-group) (2.258 ± 0.248). The inoculation of L. paracasei H4-11 and K. marxianus L1-1 in fermented rice-acid enhanced the blood antioxidant capacity of mouse serum (glutathione 29.503 ± 6.604 umol/L, malonaldehyde 0.687 ± 0.125 mmol/L, catalase 15.644 ± 4.618 U/mL, superoxide dismutase 2.292 ± 0.201 U/mL). In the gut microbiota of L-group and LY-group, beneficial microorganisms (Lactobacillus and Blautia) increased, but harmful microorganisms (Candidatus Arthromitus and Erysipelotrichales) decreased. L. paracasei H4-11 and K. marxianus L1-1 might have a certain synergistic effect on the improvement in antibacterial function since they reduced harmful microorganisms in the gut microbiota of mice. Transient stability after islanding is of crucial importance because a controlled islanding strategy is not feasible if transient stability cannot be maintained in the islands created. A new indicator of transient stability for controlled islanding strategies, defined as the critical islanding time (CIT), is presented for slow coherency-based controlled islanding strategies to determine whether all the islands created are transiently stable. Then, the stable islanding interval (SII) is also defined to determine the appropriate time frame for stable islanding. Simulations were conducted on the New England test system–New York interconnected system to demonstrate the characteristics of the critical islanding time and stable islanding interval. Simulation results showed that the answer for when to island could be easily reflected by the proposed CIT and SII indicators. Reasonable distribution network planning schemes can not only improve the power quality and power supply capacity of the power system, but also increase the economic benefits and welfare of the whole society. In this work, a bi-level optimization model is proposed for the joint planning of substations and lines in looped urban distribution systems. The upper-level model aims to address the substation locating and sizing problem, whereas the lower-level model the network planning problem. Both the substations directly supplying power to a load and the contralateral substations that act as backup power source to the load are considered in the bi-level model. In order to solve the bi-level planning model which is mathematically mixed integer programing and with plenty of continuous and discrete variables, the bird swarm algorithm is improved and applied based on the idea of parallel computing of big data theory. Simulations on actual planning problems are employed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed bi-level distribution network planning model and the parallel bird swarm algorithm. Identifying and preferentially reinforcing critical lines for skeleton-network of power systems is significant in improving the secure and stable operation of power systems under extreme weather conditions. Under this background, in this paper, six indexes are first presented for identifying critical lines for skeleton-network with the power elements’ parameters and the impact of extreme weather conditions, the network topology and the operation state of power systems considered. Then, the modified Vise Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje in Serbian (VIKOR) method, in which the synthetic weights of indexes determined by the combination weighting method are adopted, is utilized to identify the importance degrees of lines in a given power system. Both the overall performance and the outstanding individual performance of lines are considered, which is beneficial for the critical lines identification for skeleton-network. Finally, the proposed multi-indexes and methods are applied to part of the actual Guangdong power system in China. Although cobalt (Co) is indispensable for life, it is toxic to cells when accumulated in excess. The DmeRF system is a well-characterized metal-response system that contributes to Co and nickel resistance in certain bacterial species. The Vibrio parahaemolyticus RIMD 2210633 genome also harbors a dmeRF operon that encodes a multiple antibiotic resistance regulator family transcriptional regulator and a cation diffusion facilitator family protein. Quantitative real-time PCR, growth curves analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, β-galactosidase activity assays, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, and a mouse infection experiment were performed to characterize the function of the DmeRF system in V. parahaemolyticus . Zinc, copper, and Co significantly increase dmeF expression, with Co inducing the greatest increase. DmeF promotes V. parahaemolyticus growth under high-Co conditions. Additionally, increased accumulation of cellular Co in the Δ dmeF mutant indicates that DmeF is potentially involved in Co efflux. Moreover, DmeR represses the dmeRF operon by binding directly to its promoter in the absence of Co. Finally, the DmeRF system was not required for V. parahaemolyticus virulence in mice. Collectively, our data indicate that the DmeRF system is involved in maintaining Co homeostasis in V. parahaemolyticus and DmeR functioning as a repressor of the operon.
