For the first time, a self-consistent mathematical approach to describe economic processes with a general form of a memory function is proposed. In this approach, power-type memory is a special case of such general memory. The memory is described by pairs of memory functions that satisfy the Sonin and Luchko conditions. We propose using general fractional calculus (GFC) as a mathematical language that allows us to describe a general form of memory in economic processes. The existence of memory (non-locality in time) means that the process depends on the history of changes to this process in the past. Using GFC, exactly solvable economic models of natural growth with a general form of memory are proposed. Equations of natural growth with general memory are equations with general fractional derivatives and general fractional integrals for which the fundamental theorems of GFC are satisfied. Exact solutions for these equations of models of natural growth with general memory are derived. The properties of dynamic maps with a general form of memory are described in the general form and do not depend on the choice of specific types of memory functions. In the agri-food industry, strategic digital branding and digital marketing are essential for maintaining competitiveness. This study examines the economic dynamics and impact of desktop and mobile customer analytics on digital branding strategies within the sector. Through a comprehensive literature review, this research utilizes empirical evidence to validate hypotheses regarding the influence of desktop and mobile analytics metrics on key digital branding metrics and value creation. This study explores various branding indicators by utilizing descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, regression models, and fuzzy cognitive mapping (FCM). The findings reveal significant correlations between desktop and mobile analytics and digital branding outcomes, underscoring the critical role of digital analytics and Decision Support Systems (DSSs) in shaping modern branding strategies in the agri-food industry. Platinum group metals (PGMs), including palladium, play a pivotal role in various industries due to their unique properties. Palladium is frequently employed in technologies aimed at environmental preservation, such as catalytic converters that reduce harmful emissions from vehicles, and in the production of clean energy, notably in the hydrogen evolution process. Regrettably, the production of this vital metal for our environment is predominantly centered in two countries—Russia and South Africa. This centralization has led to palladium being classified as a critical raw material, emphasizing the importance of establishing a secure and sustainable supply chain, as well as employing the most efficient methods for processing materials containing palladium. This review explores techniques for palladium production from primary sources and innovative recycling methods, providing insights into current technologies and emerging approaches. Furthermore, it investigates the economic aspects of palladium production, including price fluctuations influenced by emission regulations and electric vehicle sales, and establishes connections between palladium prices, imports from major producers, as well as copper and nickel prices, considering their often co-occurrence in ores. Structural change tests aim to identify evidence of a structural break or change in the underlying generating process of a time series. The BDS test has its origins in chaos theory and seeks to test, using the correlation integral, the hypothesis that a time series is generated by an identically and independently distributed (IID) stochastic process over time. The BDS test is already widely used as a powerful tool for testing the hypothesis of white noise in the residuals of time series models. In this paper, we illustrate how the BDS test can be implemented also in a recursive manner to evaluate the hypothesis of structural change in a time series, taking advantage of its ability to test the IID hypothesis. We apply the BDS test repeatedly, starting with a sub-sample of the original time series and incrementally increasing the number of observations until it is applied to the full sample time series. A structural change in the unknown underlying generator model is detected when a change in the trend shown by this recursively computed BDS statistic is detected. The strength of this recursive BDS test lies in the fact that it does not require making any assumptions about the underlying time series generator model. We ilustrate the power and potential of this recursive BDS test through an application to real economic data. In this sense, we apply the test to assess the structural changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in international financial markets. Using daily data from the world's top stock indices, we have detected strong and statistically significant evidence of two major structural changes during the period from June 2018 to June 2022. The first occurred in March 2020, coinciding with the onset of economic restrictions in the main Western countries as a result of the pandemic. The second occurred towards the end of August 2020, with the end of the main economic restrictions and the beginning of a new post-pandemic economic scenario. This methodology to test for structural changes in a time series is easy to implement and can detect changes in any system or process behind the time series even when this generating system is not known, and without the need to specify or estimate any a priori generating model. In this sense, the recursive BDS test could be incorporated as an initial preliminary step to any exercise of time series modeling. If a structural change is detected in a time series, rather than estimating a single predictive model for the full-sample time series, efforts should be made to estimate different predictive models, one for the time before and one for the time after the detected structural change. Although the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) advocate, through SDG 4 and SDG 10, equitable quality education and the reduction of inequalities within and between countries, respectively, few studies have examined how inequalities in regional sustainability influence higher education. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between regional sustainability and higher education in China using fixed-effects panel modelling. A systematic force framework showing how regional sustainability drives higher education was constructed from economic, social, and environmental perspectives, and the endogeneity in the process of how regional sustainability affects higher education was explored by introducing one-year lagged values as instrumental variables. Our results show that regional sustainability has a significant impact on higher educational attainment in China, with differing effects in the eastern, central, and western regions, respectively. In central China, economic sustainability plays a significant positive role in higher educational attainment; in the western region, economic and social sustainability have stronger positive effects, while environmental sustainability has significantly negative effects. The gender gap in entrepreneurship has been observed for a long time, explained by both female-specific and gender-neutral factors, but none of these explanations is generally accepted. The aim of the paper is to assess the effect of internal economic dynamics on female entrepreneurship. Economic dynamics is a persistent process affected simultaneously by both endogenous and exogenous factors of a different time horizon, with the development trend and the business cycle as the most important time perspectives. The decomposition procedure of time series is implemented to extract trend and cyclical fluctuations, after which the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method is used to estimate models showing the impact of economic dynamics on female entrepreneurship in the long- and medium-run. The study concerns the countries of the Visegrad Group, including Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, and is based on quarterly data from the years 1998 to 2020. The results show that, although the economic dynamics impact female entrepreneurship, to some extent, it is not the most dominant factor. The impact of economic dynamics on female entrepreneurship is much stronger in the trend perspective than in the business cycle perspective. Nowadays, in the context of a complex fragility that radically transforms the economic habitat, the cyclical evolution of the economy is governed by new rules and constraints that transcend the economic area and increasingly interfere with the socio-cultural features of life. In this context, the aim of this paper is to outline the conceptual domain of a new insight into the relationship between social and economic dimensions of life by summarizing and integrating two of the main groundbreaking and inspirational streams of thought—social trust and economic dynamics. To do so, we developed theoretical syntheses of the most important contributions documenting the nature of trust and business cycle; then, the much more recent "niche" of the influence between them was placed under conceptual discussion. One of the more significant findings to emerge from this study is that the nature of the relationship between social trust and economic dynamics is still minimally explored and understood, and the research conducted thus far is mainly positioned in a macroeconomic perspective, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches that still leave many questions unanswered. However, the lack of a deep understanding of these influences launches new challenges for theoretical developments and creates the framework for an integrative understanding. These new insights can support more rigorous studies whose results could be of utmost importance for business organizations in addressing the problem of business sustainability, but also for economic decision-makers. At the macro level, economic crises are influencing the income distribution and are expected to exacerbate poverty, thus affecting progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 01 (No poverty). In this paper, we consider a class of economic dynamics models in the form of linear functional differential systems with continuous and discrete times (hybrid models) that covers many kinds of dynamic models with aftereffect. The focus of attention is periodic boundary value problems with deviating argument, control problems with respect to general on-target vector-functional and questions of stability to solutions. For boundary value problems, some sharp sufficient conditions of the unique solvability are obtained. The attainability of on-target values is under study as applied to control problems with polyhedral constraints with respect to control, some estimates of the attainability set as well as estimates to a number of switch-points of programming control are presented. A vast body of literature recognizes the importance of exports as a driver of economic growth. The increasing share of more sophisticated exports gave birth to the idea that the composition of exports, and not just exports per se, could be crucial for economic dynamics. The aim of this paper was to estimate the relative importance of exports with different technological content on economic growth in Romania and V4 economies, considering R&D (Research and Development) expenditure as a predictor of the pattern of these exports. We used a panel analysis on a data set covering the period of 1995–2017 for Romania and V4 economies. The overall results outline significant differences among selected countries in terms of how the composition of exports influenced economic growth in selected countries. In addition, significant differences were found among selected countries in how R&D expenditure influenced the composition of exports. This paper has clearly shown that the composition of exports has different effects on economic growth in selected countries, mostly explainable by country-specific factors. At the same time, the R&D activity, as the main input in the innovation process, can determine the pattern of the structure of exports. The conclusions of such research could become useful tools in shaping macroeconomic policies focused on sustained growth and long-term economic development, especially in countries concerned about improving their status in the global value chain. Introduction: Energy return on energy invested (EROEI) of fossil fuels has been declining sharply, while modern renewable energy sources generally have even lower EROEI than fossil fuels. It has been repeatedly proven that economic growth expressed in the form of growth of real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is closely related to intensified energy consumption and escalated usage of natural resources in general. This problem remains scarcely explored in pure economic modelling. Objectives: This study presents a novel model titled Energy Extended Neoclassical Growth Model (EENGM), which focuses on the consequences of declining quantity and quality of extractable fossil fuels and lower quality of the succeeding renewable energy technology for economic growth. Method: The Neoclassical growth model is translated into a system dynamics format and is extended by important feedback mechanisms, which are identified as important from the literature and mostly missing from the analyzed system dynamics models with a similar scope. Two scenarios assess the EENGM performance: business as usual (BAU) and the sustainability strategy (SUS). Results: Sensitivity analysis is performed for the Energy Return on Energy Invested (EROEI) parameter and results in the investment share in GDP varying between 27 and 40%, while the energy sector investment largely displaces investment in other economic sectors. The EENGM is associated with new behavior whereby the underperforming energy sector limits GDP growth and seizes most of the available investment. The adoption of the SUS strategy causes 28% lower cumulative fossil fuel aggregate consumption which still corresponds to higher than 1.5 °C global warming compared to the preindustrial levels. Conclusion: The share of consumption in the GDP of an economy undergoing energy transition can approach levels previously seen only in totally war-oriented economies. Even omitting other negative environmental feedback, the feasibility of the successful energy transition of the system in its contemporary form, with the currently available renewable energy technology, seems to be highly uncertain. In this paper, we propose criteria for the existence of memory of power-law type (PLT) memory in economic processes. We give the criterion of existence of power-law long-range dependence in time by using the analogy with the concept of the long-range alpha-interaction. We also suggest the criterion of existence of PLT memory for frequency domain by using the concept of non-integer dimensions. For an economic process, for which it is known that an endogenous variable depends on an exogenous variable, the proposed criteria make it possible to identify the presence of the PLT memory. The suggested criteria are illustrated in various examples. The use of the proposed criteria allows apply the fractional calculus to construct dynamic models of economic processes. These criteria can be also used to identify the linear integro-differential operators that can be considered as fractional derivatives and integrals of non-integer orders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
