The tailoring of the surface properties of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) to meet various requirements in environmental, food, and material areas has always been of great interest. In this study, the surface chemistry of CNCs was noncovalently modified by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), followed by characterizations and an investigation into its application as a coating material for interfacial interaction over various substrates. Due to the CTAB modification, the surface charge of the CNCs was neutralized, resulting in an increased size of each nanocrystal at the aqueous status and the aggregated microfibers when dried up. The CTAB modification not only decreased the crystallinity of the samples from 48.57% to 9.12%, but also reasonably hydrophobized the CNCs and decreased their total surface energy. Finally, the adsorption behavior of the CNCs and CTAB-CNCs over nonionic, anionic, and cationic polymers was investigated by ellipsometry. Based on the thickness of the CNC and CTAB-CNC layers over 2-Hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and polyethyleneimine (PEI), we proposed that the adsorption behavior was overall influenced by electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and van der Waals forces, and the thickness of the adsorbed layers could be impacted by both the surface charge and the size of the crystals.

In the cooperative multi-sensor multi-vehicle (MSMV) localization domain, the data incest problem yields inconsistent data fusion results, thereby reducing the accuracy of vehicle localization. In order to address this problem, we propose the interval split covariance intersection filter (ISCIF). At first, the proposed ISCIF method is applied to the absolute positioning step. Then, we combine the interval constraint propagation (ICP) method and the proposed ISCIF method to realize relative positioning. Additionally, in order to enhance the robustness of the MSMV localization system, a Kullback–Leibler divergence (KLD)-based fault detection and exclusion (FDE) method is implemented in our system. Three simulations were carried out: Simulation scenarios 1 and 2 aimed to assess the accuracy of the proposed ISCIF with various capabilities of absolute vehicle positioning, while simulation scenario 3 was designed to evaluate the localization performance when faults were present. The simulation results of scenarios 1 and 2 demonstrated that our proposed vehicle localization method reduced the root mean square error (RMSE) by 8.9% and 15.5%, respectively, compared to the conventional split covariance intersection filter (SCIF) method. The simulation results of scenario 3 indicated that the implemented FDE method could effectively reduce the RMSE of vehicles (by about 55%) when faults were present in the system.

Spurs, which mainly appear in roosters, are protrusions near the tarsometatarsus on both sides of the calves of chickens, and are connected to the tarsometatarsus by a bony core. As a male-biased morphological characteristic, the diameter and length of spurs vary significantly between different individuals, mainly related to genetics and age. As a specific behavior of hens, egg-laying also varies greatly between individuals in terms of traits such as age at first egg (AFE), egg weight (EW), and so on. At present, there are few studies on chicken spurs. In this study, we investigated the inheritance pattern of the spur trait in roosters with different phenotypes and the correlations between spur length, body weight at 18 weeks of age (BW18), shank length at 18 weeks of age (SL18), and the egg-laying trait in hens (both hens and roosters were from the same population and were grouped according to their family). These traits related to egg production included AFE, body weight at first egg (BWA), and first egg weight (FEW). We estimated genetic parameters based on pedigree and phenotype data, and used variance analysis to calculate broad-sense heritability for correcting the parameter estimation results. The results showed that the heritability of male left and right spurs ranged from 0.6 to 0.7. There were significant positive correlations between left and right spur length, BW18, SL18, and BWA, as well as between left and right spur length and AFE. We selected 35 males with the longest spurs and 35 males with the shortest spurs in the population, and pooled them into two sets to obtain the pooled genome sequencing data. After genome-wide association and genome divergency analysis by FST, allele frequency differences (AFDs), and XPEHH methods, we identified 7 overlapping genes (CENPE, FAT1, FAM149A, MANBA, NFKB1, SORBS2, UBE2D3) and 14 peak genes (SAMD12, TSPAN5, ENSGALG00000050071, ENSGALG00000053133, ENSGALG00000050348, CNTN5, TRPC6, ENSGALG00000047655,TMSB4X, LIX1, CKB, NEBL, PRTFDC1, MLLT10) related to left and right spur length through genome-wide selection signature analysis and a genome-wide association approach. Our results identified candidate genes associated with chicken spurs, which helps to understand the genetic mechanism of this trait and carry out subsequent research around it.

Numerous clinical studies published in the Chinese language support the use of Medilac-S (Bacillus subtilis R0179 and Enterococcus faecium R0026; non-commercial name IBacilluS+) as an adjuvant in various indications, including ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, acute gastritis, and Helicobacter pylori therapy. This systematic review with a meta-analysis was conducted to summarize clinical studies evaluating the efficacy of this probiotic formulation as an adjuvant to conventional IBS medications. The systematic literature searches in six international and Chinese databases identified 37 eligible studies, of which 33 reported the efficacy of Medilac-S adjunctive therapy using a standardized categorical scale. These 33 studies were included in the meta-analysis using a random-effect model with a stratification by IBS subtype. Overall, Medilac-S significantly improved the efficacy of conventional IBS treatment (RR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.17–1.25; and p < 0.0001) with an average probability of treatment effectiveness being 21% higher with the probiotic adjuvant, regardless of the subtype. Adverse events, reported in 78% of the trials, were described as mild-to-moderate and self-resolving, with a similar incidence in the probiotic adjuvant (6.2%; n = 1347) and control (5.9%; n = 1331) groups. The results of this meta-analysis strengthen the conclusions that Medilac-S is a safe and effective adjuvant to a variety of conventional treatments in IBS patients.

Typical wind tunnel testing involves a series of configuration changes (to the angles of control surfaces) to simulate the lift and resistance characteristics of control surfaces in different flight conditions. It is very time-consuming and labor-intensive to manually change the angles of control surfaces, especially in the large continuous reflux wind tunnel. Thus, there is a demand for a morphing system design within the wind tunnel model that can deflect the control surfaces remotely and automatically. The basic design flow and characteristics of different actuator techniques for the morphing systems were summarized in this paper, including electromechanical actuator, pneumatic actuator, shape memory material actuator and piezoelectric actuator. In the case study, the accuracy of the control surface angle and aerodynamic performance of the ultrasonic-driven automatic control surface system reached the level of traditional fixed control surface systems, while its efficiency was much higher than that of the traditional fixed control surface systems.

A rotary tiller is a common tillage tool for straw incorporation in an intensive tillage system. However, rotary tillage for seedbed preparation in dense-straw mulching conditions experiences high torque and poor performance of straw incorporation. Nowadays, a great deal of studies have been focused on mimicking the morphological features of low-resistance animals to improve the performance of soil-engaging tools. Accordingly, the present study investigated the performance of three C-type rotary blades (i.e., conventional, serrated, and biomimetic) under three straw lengths (50, 100, and 150 mm) for incorporation of straw into the field using an in situ field tillage testing bench. Compared to the conventional and serrated blades, the biomimetic blade had lower straw displacement (decreased by an average of 50 mm and 7 mm, respectively), higher straw burying rate (increased by an average of 5.2% and 7.8%, respectively), better straw distribution (decreased by an average of 9.1% and 10.4% on the coefficient of variation, respectively), as well as lower torque and power (decreased by an average of 3.3 N·m and 4.4 N·m, respectively) under all straw lengths. The improved performance of the biomimetic blade could be attributed to the fact that its typical teeth configuration was designed by mimicking the smooth arc of the mole-rat’s claw. These results demonstrated that the biomimetic-designed blade could be a better option for incorporating dense straw into the field conditions.

There are four sizable black soil regions throughout the world, all of which are valuable natural resources. The black soil region in Northeast China is a major foundation for grain production. Serious risks of soil erosion do exist, and they have an immediate impact on both the country’s food security and future ecological security. Many soil and water conservation measures have been put in place to control soil erosion. However, how effective and suitable are these measures? Currently, systematic analyses and assessments are lacking. The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness and suitability of soil and water conservation measures on hillslopes using the comprehensive index method and the Pressure–State–Response model. The categorization of effectiveness and suitability of these measures were similar for both methods: that is, very effective and suitable measures included no-tillage + straw mulch and ridge belt or contour ridge. The two methods validated one another. Thus, this categorization standard is useful for choosing the best soil and water conservation measures for different soil erosion regions.

The combine harvester equipped with attitude-adjustment functionality significantly enhances its adaptability to complex terrain but often struggles to maintain the reliability of its mechanisms. Therefore, investigating the dynamic load characteristics of the attitude-adjustment mechanism becomes imperative. This article employed the DEM–FMBD (Discrete Element Method–Flexible Multibody Dynamics) bidirectional coupling simulation method to establish a multibody dynamic model of a tracked combine harvester. The study delved into the interaction mechanism and dynamic stress response characteristics between the tracked chassis and the complex terrain under various height adjustments, lateral adjustment angles, longitudinal adjustment angles, and different field-ridge crossing methods. Finally, the accuracy of the coupled simulation model was validated through a constructed stress detection system. The research findings revealed that the displacement and tilt angle deviation of the hydraulic cylinders utilized to execute the chassis adjustment actions in the constructed coupled simulation model was less than 5%, and the deviation between the simulation results and the actual maximum dynamic stress under multiple working conditions ranged from 7% to 15%. This verification confirmed the effectiveness of the DEM–FMBD coupled simulation method. Under different adjustment conditions, the maximum stress position was consistently distributed in the same area of the left-front and left-rear rotating arms. The primary and secondary effects of the various parts of the adjustment mechanism on the overall reliability of the chassis were as follows: left front > right front > left rear > right rear. By implementing the middle height with the adjustment strategy, the dynamic stress extreme value of the adjustment mechanism can be effectively reduced by 21.98%, thereby enhancing the structural stability of the chassis.

This study investigated the effects of dietary energy levels during late gestation on mineral content in the plasma, colostrum, and milk of jennies postpartum. Twenty-four pregnant multiparous DeZhou jennies, aged 6.0 ± 0.1 years, with a body weight of 292 ± 33 kg, an average parity number of 2.7 ± 0.1, and similar expected dates of confinement (74 ± 4 days), were randomly allocated to three groups and fed three diets: high energy (12.54 MJ/kg, HE), medium energy (12.03 MJ/kg, ME), and low energy (11.39 MJ/kg, LE). Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein of each jenny at time points of 0 h, 24 h, 48 h, 5 d, 7 d, and 14 d after parturition. Additionally, milk samples were collected through manual milking, and an analysis of the mineral content was conducted. The results showed that compared with HE, both ME and LE significantly increased the levels of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), molybdenum (Mo), and cobalt (Co) in the plasma and Ca, P, magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), Zn, selenium (Se), molybdenum (Mo), and Co in the milk of jennies postpartum (p < 0.05); ME also increased the levels of potassium (K), iron (Fe), and Mn in plasma and K and Fe in milk (p < 0.05). The levels of Ca, K, Mg, P, Fe, Cu, Mn, Co, Se, Zn, and Mo in plasma and milk gradually decreased with increasing postpartum time. Their contents were the highest at 0 h postpartum, rapidly decreased after 24 h postpartum, and declined to the lowest on day 14 postpartum. The interaction between dietary energy level and postpartum time showed that although the concentrations of the minerals Ca, P, K, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, Co, Se, and Mo decreased in jennies’ plasma and milk in the treatment groups with different energy levels as postpartum time increased, the pattern of change was also influenced by dietary energy level. The influence of dietary energy level in late gestation on the mineral content of milk and plasma during the postpartum colostrum phase was higher than that during the milk phase. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that, under the current experimental conditions, the mineral content of the colostrum, milk, and plasma of jennies after parturition was dependent on the dietary energy level during late gestation.

This study investigates the characteristics of the raindrop size distribution (DSD) for five typhoons that made landfall or passed by Zhejiang on the eastern coast of China, from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, it examines the raindrop shape–slope (µ-Λ) relationship, as well as the local Z-R relationship for these typhoons. The DSD datasets were collected by the DSG1 disdrometer located in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Based on rainfall rate (R), the DSD can be categorized into convective and stratiform rainfall types. Some rainfall parameters can also be derived from the DSDs to further analyze the specific characteristics of rainfall. The histograms of the generalized intercept parameter (log10Nw) exhibit negative skewness in both convective and stratiform rainfall, whereas the histograms of the mass-weighted mean diameter (Dm) of raindrops display positive skewness. During typhoon periods on the eastern coast of China, the DSD characteristic was composed of a lower number concentration of small and midsize raindrops (3.42 for log10Nw, 1.43 mm for Dm in the whole dataset) as compared to Jiangsu in eastern China, Tokyo, in Japan, Miryang, in South Korea, and Thiruvananthapuram in south India, respectively. At the same time, the scatter plots of Dm and log10Nw indicate that the convective rain during typhoon periods exhibits characteristics that are intermediate between “maritime-like” and “continental-like” clusters. Additionally, the raindrop spectra of convective rainfall and midsize raindrops in stratiform rainfall are well-represented by a three-parameter gamma distribution. The µ-Λ relation in this region is similar to Taiwan and Fujian, located along the southeastern coast of China. The Z-R relationship for eastern coastal China during typhoons based on filtered disdrometer data is Z = 175.04R1.53. These results could offer deeper insights into the microphysical characteristics of different rainfall types along the eastern coast of China and potentially improve the accuracy of precipitation estimates from weather radar observations.

Peroxymonosulfate (PMS, SO52−)-based oxidation is an efficient pathway for degrading organic pollutants, but it still suffers from slow degradation efficiency and low PMS utilization. In this work, we report the preparation of porous Fe-doped g-C3N4 catalysts by one-step thermal polymerization using urea and transition metal salts as precursors and investigate the effect of atmosphere conditions (air and nitrogen) on the catalytic performance. Systematic characterizations show that Fe-doped g-C3N4 prepared in air (FeNx-CNO) has a larger specific surface area (136.2 m2 g−1) and more oxygen vacancies than that prepared in N2 (FeNx-CNN, 74.2 m2 g−1), giving it more active sites to participate in the reaction. Meanwhile, FeNx-CNO inhibits the recombination of photogenerated carriers and improves the light utilization. The redox cycling of Fe(III) and Fe(II) species in the photocatalytic system ensures the continuous generation of SO5•− and SO4•−. Therefore, FeNx-CNO can remove CBZ up to 96% within 20 min, which is 3.4 times higher than that of CNO and 3.1 times higher than that of FeNx-CNN, and the degradation efficiency can still retain 93% after 10 cycles of reaction. This study provides an economical and efficient method for photocatalysis in the degradation of medicines in contaminated water.

As an anti-staling agent in bread, the desorption isotherm of polydextrose has not been studied due to a very long equilibrium time. The adsorption and desorption isotherms of five Chinese polydextrose products were measured in the range of 0.1–0.9 aw and 20–35 °C by a dynamic moisture sorption analyzer. The results show that the shape of adsorption and desorption isotherms was similar to that of amorphous lactose. In the range of 0.1–0.8 aw, the hysteresis between desorption and adsorption of polydextrose was significant. The sorption isotherms of polydextrose can be fitted by seven commonly used models, and our developed seven-parameter polynomial, the adsorption equations of generalized D’Arcy and Watt (GDW) and Ferro-Fontan, and desorption equations of polynomial and Peleg, performed well in the range of 0.1–0.9 aw. The hysteresis curves of polydextrose at four temperatures quickly decreased with aw increase at aw ˂ 0.5, andthereafter slowly decreased when aw ≥ 0.5. The polynomial fitting hysteresis curves of polydextrose were divided into three regions: ˂0.2, 0.2–0.7, and 0.71–0.9 aw. The addition of 0–10% polydextrose to rice starch decreased the surface adsorption and bulk absorption during the adsorption and desorption of rice starch, while it increased the water adsorption value at aw ≥ 0.7 due to polydextrose dissolution. DSC analysis showed that polydextrose as a gelling agent inhibited the retrogradation of rice starch, which could be used to maintain the quality of cooked rice.

Oil palm is a versatile oil crop with numerous applications. Significant progress has been made in applying histological techniques in oil palm research in recent years. Whole genome sequencing of oil palm has been carried out to explain the function and structure of the order genome, facilitating the development of molecular markers and the construction of genetic maps, which are crucial for studying important traits and genetic resources in oil palm. Transcriptomics provides a powerful tool for studying various aspects of plant biology, including abiotic and biotic stresses, fatty acid composition and accumulation, and sexual reproduction, while proteomics and metabolomics provide opportunities to study lipid synthesis and stress responses, regulate fatty acid composition based on different gene and metabolite levels, elucidate the physiological mechanisms in response to abiotic stresses, and explain intriguing biological processes in oil palm. This paper summarizes the current status of oil palm research from a multi-omics perspective and hopes to provide a reference for further in-depth research on oil palm.

Gibberellins (GAs), enzymes that play a significant role in plant growth and development, and their levels in plants could be regulated by gibberellin-oxidases (GAoxs). As important fruit trees and ornamental plants, the study of the mechanism of plant architecture formation of the Prunus genus is crucial. Here, 85 GAox genes were identified from P. mume, P. armeniaca, P. salicina, and P. persica, and they were classified into six subgroups. Conserved motif and gene structure analysis showed that GAoxs were conserved in the four Prunus species. Collinearity analysis revealed two fragment replication events of PmGAoxs in the P. mume genome. Promoter cis-elements analysis revealed 24 PmGAoxs contained hormone-responsive elements and development regulatory elements. The expression profile indicated that PmGAoxs have tissue expression specificity, and GA levels during the dormancy stage of flower buds were controlled by certain PmGAoxs. After being treated with IAA or GA3, the transcription level of PmGA2ox8 in stems was significantly increased and showed a differential expression level between upright and weeping stems. GUS activity driven by PmGA2ox8 promoter was detected in roots, stems, leaves, and flower organs of Arabidopsis. PmGA2ox8 overexpression in Arabidopsis leads to dwarfing phenotype, increased number of rosette leaves but decreased leaf area, and delayed flowering. Our results showed that GAoxs were conserved in Prunus species, and PmGA2ox8 played an essential role in regulating plant height.

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii polysaccharides (CRPs) are bioactive compounds derived from C. reinhardtii, yet their potential in cancer therapy remains largely unexplored. This study optimized the ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions using response surface methodology and proceeded with the isolation and purification of these polysaccharides. The optimal extraction conditions were identified as a sodium hydroxide concentration of 1.5%, ultrasonic power of 200 W, a solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:25 g/mL, an ultrasonic treatment time of 10 min, and a water bath duration of 2.5 h, yielding an actual extraction rate of 5.71 ± 0.001%, which closely aligns with the predicted value of 5.639%. Infrared analysis revealed that CRP-1 and CRP-2 are α-pyranose structures containing furoic acid, while CRP-3 and CRP-4 are β-pyranose structures containing furoic acid. Experimental results demonstrated that all four purified polysaccharides inhibited the proliferation of cervical (HeLa) hepatoma (HepG-2) and colon (HCT-116) cancer cells, with CRP-4 showing the most significant inhibitory effect on colon cancer and cervical cancer, achieving inhibition rates of 60.58 ± 0.88% and 40.44 ± 1.44%, respectively, and significantly reducing the migration of HeLa cells. DAPI staining confirmed that the four purified polysaccharides inhibit cell proliferation and migration by inducing apoptosis in HeLa cells. CRP-1 has the most significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of liver cancer cells. This study not only elucidates the potential application of C. reinhardtii polysaccharides in cancer therapy but also provides a scientific basis for their further development and utilization.

Geopolymer foam concrete (GFC), an emerging thermal insulation material known for its environmentally friendly and low-carbon attributes, has gained prominence for its use in bolstering building energy efficiency. A critical challenge in GFC production is foam destabilization by the alkaline environment in which foam is supersaturated with salt. In this study, GFC was prepared by using triterpene saponin (TS), sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as blowing agents, with fly ash as the precursor and calcium carbide slag (CA) combined with Glauber’s salt (GS, Na2SO4 ≥ 99%) as the activator. The effect of GFC on mechanical properties was analyzed by examining its fluidity, pore structure, dry density, and compressive strength. The results show that TS has a stable liquid film capable of adapting to the adverse effects of salt supersaturation and alkaline environments. TS is highly stable in the GFC matrix, and so the corresponding pore size is small, and the connectivity is low in the hardened GFC. In addition, the hydration products of GFC exhibit different morphologies depending on the surfactant used. TS has better water retention due to hydrogen bonding, which facilitates the hydration process.

Concrete production is associated with extensive energy consumption and significant CO2 emissions. In addition, tremendous amounts of freshwater are used as a mixing agent. Urgency is increasing to develop sustainable cementitious materials and promote freshwater-saving strategies. An environmentally friendly alternative binder, seawater mixed with one part alkali activated material, is studied. In this work, a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment was applied to study the equivalent CO2 emission and cost properties of the clinker-free binder. The seawater mixed mortar possesses comparable mechanical properties to Portland cement, with 3 d flexural and compressive strengths of 5.3 MPa and 25.2 MPa. In addition, the mortar developed in this work is of similar cost as commercial cement, but reduces CO2 emissions by 44.8%.

Chlorine is widely used for sterilization and disinfection of water, but the presence of excess residual chlorine in water poses a substantial threat to human health. At present, there is no portable device which can achieve accurate, rapid, low-cost, and convenient detection of residual chlorine in water. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a device that can perform accurate, rapid, low-cost, and convenient detection of residual chlorine in water. In this study, a portable residual chlorine detection device was developed. A microfluidic chip was studied to achieve efficient mixing of two-phase flow. This microfluidic chip was used for rapid mixing of reagents in the portable residual chlorine detection device, reducing the consumption of reagents, detection time, and device volume. A deep learning algorithm was proposed for predicting residual chlorine concentration in water, achieving precise detection. Firstly, the microfluidic chip structure for detecting mixed reagents was optimized, and the microfluidic chip was fabricated by a 3D-printing method. Secondly, a deep learning (LS-BP) algorithm was constructed and proposed for predicting residual chlorine concentration in water, which can realize dual-channel signal reading. Thirdly, the corresponding portable residual chlorine detection device was developed, and the detection device was compared with residual chlorine detection devices and methods in other studies. The comparison results indicate that the portable residual chlorine detection device has high detection accuracy, fast detection speed, low cost, and good convenience. The excellent performance of the portable residual chlorine detection device makes it suitable for detecting residual chlorine in drinking water, swimming pool water, aquaculture and other fields.

Shrub invasion affects plant growth and soil physicochemical properties, resulting in soil microbiota metabolic pathway changes. However, little is known about the shrub expansion intensity of microbial metabolic pathway processes. In this study, we used metagenome sequencing technology to investigate changes in soil microbial C and N metabolic pathways and community structures, along with different shrub invasion intensities, in the Sanjiang Plain wetlands. Different shrub invasion intensities significantly affected the soil microbial composition (β diversity), with no significant effect on the α diversity compared to CK. AN, pH, and TP were the major factors influencing the microbial community’s structures. Compared to CK, the shrub expansion intensity did not significantly affect C fixation and central metabolism but significantly reduced methanogenesis, which involves the CO2-to-methane transition that occurs in methane metabolism, and denitrification, the nitrite to nitric oxide (nirK or nirS) transition that occurs in N metabolism. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the biogeochemical cycles of wetland ecosystems in cold northern regions undergoing shrub invasion.

Rice sheath blight is a serious disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani that reduces rice yield. Currently, there is a lack of efficient and environmentally friendly control methods. In this study, we found that Bacillus velezensis (B. velezensis) Y6 could significantly inhibit the growth of mycelium in Rhizoctonia solani, and its control efficiency against rice sheath blight was 58.67% (p < 0.01) in a pot experiment. Lipopeptides play an important role in the control of rice sheath blight by B. velezensis Y6, among which iturin and fengycin are essential, and iturin W, a novel lipopeptide in B. velezensis, plays a major role in lipopeptide antagonism to Rhizoctonia solani. In the field, we also found that inoculation with B. velezensis Y6 can increase rice yield (dry weight) by 11.75%. Furthermore, the transcriptome profiling results of the rice roots revealed that there were a total of 1227 differential genes (DEGs) regulated when treated with Y6, of which 468 genes were up-regulated and 971 genes were down-regulated in rice roots compared with the control. Among them, the DEGs were mainly distributed in biological processes (BP) and were mainly enriched in response to stimulus (GO:0050896), response to stress (GO:0006950), and response to abiotic stimulus (GO:0009628). According to the KEGG pathway analysis, there were 338 DEGs classified into 87 KEGG functional pathway categories. Compared with the control, a large number of enriched genes were distributed in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis (map00940), glutathione metabolism (map00480), glycolysis/gluconeogenesis (map00010), and amino sugar and nucleotide sugar metabolism (map00520). In summary, this investigation provides a new perspective for studying the molecular mechanism of B. velezensis in controlling rice sheath blight.

Allergies are one of the diseases whose incidence rates have increased in recent years due to the greenhouse effect and extreme climate change. Therefore, the development of new antiallergic drugs has attracted the interest of researchers in chemistry and pharmacy fields. Dicoumarin is a coumarin derivative with various biological activities, but its antiallergic activity has not been evaluated. In this study, 14 different dicoumarin derivatives were synthesized by diethylamine-catalyzed condensation reactions of 4-hydroxycoumarin with 14 different aldehydes, and they were identified on the basis of their spectral data. The dicoumarin derivatives were subjected to studies on the degranulation of rat basophilic leukemia cells (RBL-2H3 cells) and mouse bone-marrow-derived mast cells (mBMMCs), and some of them showed good inhibitory effects on the degranulation of the two types of mast cells, demonstrating their good antiallergic activity. This study presents a new method of developing new antiallergic drugs.

Tetracycline (TC) contamination in water is one of the key issues in global environmental protection, and traditional water treatment methods are difficult to remove antibiotic pollutants.Therefore, efficient and environmentally friendly treatment technologies are urgently needed. In this study, activated persulfate (PS) using a biochar-loaded nano zero-valent iron (BC-nZVI) advanced oxidation system was used to investigate the degradation effect, influencing factors, and mechanism of TC. BC-nZVI was prepared using the liquid-phase reduction method, and its structure and properties were analyzed by various characterization means. The results showed that nZVI was uniformly distributed on the surface or in the pores of BC, forming a stable complex. Degradation experiments showed that the BC-nZVI/PS system could degrade TC up to 99.57% under optimal conditions. The experiments under different conditions revealed that the iron-carbon ratio, dosing amount, PS concentration, and pH value all affected the degradation efficiency. Free radical burst and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments confirmed the dominant roles of hydroxyl and sulfate radicals in the degradation process, and LC–MS experiments revealed the multi-step reaction process of TC degradation. This study provides a scientific basis for the efficient treatment of TC pollution in water.

The scalable fabrication of cost-efficient bifunctional catalysts with enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance plays a significant role in overall water splitting in hydrogen production fields. MoSe2 is considered to be one of the most promising candidates because of its low cost and high catalytic activity. Herein, hierarchical nitrogen-doped carbon networks were constructed to enhance the catalytic activity of the MoSe2-based materials by scalable free-drying combined with an in situ selenization strategy. The rationally designed carbonaceous network-encapsulated MoSe2 composite (MoSe2/NC) endows a continuous honeycomb-like structure. When utilized as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for both HER and OER, the MoSe2/NC electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance. Significantly, the MoSe2/NC‖MoSe2/NC cells require a mere 1.5 V to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for overall water splitting in 1 M KOH. Ex situ characterizations and electrochemical kinetic analysis reveal that the superior catalytic performance of the MoSe2/NC composite is mainly attributed to fast electron and ion transportation and good structural stability, which is derived from the abundant active sites and excellent structural flexibility of the honeycomb-like carbon network. This work offers a promising pathway to the scalable fabrication of advanced non-noble bifunctional electrodes for highly efficient hydrogen evolution.

Compared to traditional injected vaccines, oral vaccines offer significant advantages for the immunization of livestock and wildlife due to their ease of use, high compliance, improved safety, and potential to stimulate mucosal immune responses and induce systemic immunity against pathogens. This review provides an overview of the delivery methods for oral vaccines, and the factors that influence their immunogenicity. We also highlight the global progress and achievements in the development and use of oral vaccines for animals, shedding light on potential future applications in this field.

Inductive power transfer (IPT) technology is used in various applications owing to its safety features, robust environmental adaptability, and convenience. In some special applications, the charging pads are required to be as compact as possible to accommodate practical spatial requirements, and even size requirements dictate that the diameter of the charging pad matches the air gap. However, such requirements bring about a decrease in the transmission efficiency, power, and tolerance to misalignment of the system. In this paper, by comparing a double-sided inductor–capacitor–capacitor (LCC), double-sided inductor–capacitor–inductor (LCL), series–series (SS), and inductor–capacitor–capacitor–series (LCC-S) compensation topologies in IPT systems, we identified a double-sided LCC compensation topology that is suitable for weak coupling coefficients. Furthermore, this study modeled and simulated the typical parameters of coreless coils in circular power pads, such as the number of coil layers, turns, wire diameter, and wire spacing, to enhance the mutual inductance of the magnetic coupler during misalignment and long-distance transmission. A wireless charging system with 640 W output power was built, and the experimental results show that a maximum dc-dc efficiency of over 86% is achieved across a 200 mm air gap when the circular power pad with a diameter of 200 mm is well aligned. The experimental results show that using a suitable compensation topology and optimizing the charging pad parameters enables efficient IPT system operation when the coupling coefficient is 0.02.

Objective: To investigate the impact of extreme climate on geological disasters in Shanxi and propose effective disaster prevention and mitigation strategies. Methods: Using daily temperature and precipitation data from 27 meteorological stations in Shanxi Province from 1975 to 2020, 32 extreme climate indices were calculated. Combined with geological disaster site data, the distribution characteristics of extreme climates and their relationship with geological disasters were analyzed, and a regression model for geological disaster risk zones was constructed. Results: Sixteen extreme climate indices in Shanxi Province showed significant changes, especially TMAXmean (100% significant). Indices related to negative precipitation effects showed a declining trend, with 77.78% being significant, while 96.3% of positive temperature effect indices showed an increasing trend, with 73.6% being significant. Geological disaster hotspots were concentrated in the mid-altitude (500–1500 m) hilly and low mountain areas along the central north–south axis and on Q and Pz strata. Extreme high-temperature indices were significantly positively correlated with geological disaster hotspots, while extreme low-temperature indices were negatively correlated. Indices related to extreme heavy precipitation (e.g., R99p.Slope, RX5day.Slope) were associated with an increase in geological disaster hotspots, whereas higher total precipitation and frequent heavy precipitation events were associated with a decrease in disaster hotspots. The grey relational degree between the Z-score and TXn.Slope, TXx.Slope, GSL.Slope, and TX90P.Slope was greater than 0.8. The random forest model performed best in evaluation metrics such as MAE, RMSE, and R2. Conclusions: Shanxi is likely to experience more extreme high-temperature and precipitation events in the future. The low-altitude hilly and terraced areas in Zones III and VII are key regions for geological disaster prevention and control. High temperatures and extreme rainfall events generally increase the disaster risk, while higher total precipitation reduces it. The random forest model is the optimal tool for predicting geological disaster risks in Shanxi Province.

Time–frequency parameterization for oscillations in specific frequency bands reflects the dynamic changes in the brain. It is related to cognitive behavior and diseases and has received significant attention in neuroscience. However, many studies do not consider the impact of the aperiodic noise and neural activity, including their time-varying fluctuations. Some studies are limited by the low resolution of the time–frequency spectrum and parameter-solved operation. Therefore, this paper proposes super-resolution time–frequency periodic parameterization of (transient) oscillation (STPPTO). STPPTO obtains a super-resolution time–frequency spectrum with Superlet transform. Then, the time–frequency representation of oscillations is obtained by removing the aperiodic component fitted in a time-resolved way. Finally, the definition of transient events is used to parameterize oscillations. The performance of this method is validated on simulated data and its reliability is demonstrated on magnetoencephalography. We show how it can be used to explore and analyze oscillatory activity under rhythmic stimulation.

It is of great significance in the field of engineering to repair the surface defects of ZM6 cast magnesium alloy by an arc welding method. Compared with the traditional tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding repair technology, cold metal transfer (CMT) welding repair has the advantages of low heat input, small repair deformation, and high efficiency. It is of great research value to repair the surface defects of ZM6 cast magnesium alloy by CMT welding. In this paper, the effect of CMT welding repair parameters on defect repair forming is systematically studied, and a repair process window free of unfused defects is obtained. The effects of preheating temperature of base material, wire-feeding speed, welding speed, stick-out length of welding wire and shielding gas flow on the spread of magnesium alloy melt and weld formation were investigated by a surface surfacing method. During the welding process, a camera was used to capture images of the arc and droplet features. A pit defect with a depth of 11.5 mm was machined on the surface of the casting, and the effect of five different repair paths on the formation of the repair area was studied. In order to make the repair area have better fusion, reasonable repair parameters are as follows: The preheating temperature range is 310–450 °C, the wire-feeding speed range is 5–7 m/min, the welding speed range is 8–10 mm/s, the stick-out length of the welding wire is 12 mm, the shielding gas flow rate is 20 L/min, and the repair path adopts a continuous linear reciprocating welding path. This study has important significance for guiding the development of CMT repair technology of cast magnesium alloy.

Over the past few years, there has been an increased focus on offshore pipeline safety due to the development of offshore oil and gas resources. Both onshore and offshore pipelines may face significant geological hazards resulting from active faults. Pre-excavated soil can be used as backfill for trenches to prevent major pipeline deformations. Since these backfill materials have been heavily remolded, they are softer than the native soil. Therefore, the difference in shear strength between the backfill and native ground may have an effect on the interaction between the pipeline and the backfill. In this paper, the pipeline–backfill–trench interaction is investigated using a hybrid beam–spring model. The P-Y curves obtained from CEL analysis are incorporated into a 3D beam–spring model to analyze the pipeline’s response to lateral strike-slip faults. Additionally, the nonlinearity of pipeline materials is considered to study pipeline failure modes under strike-slip fault movements. A series of parametric studies were conducted to explore the effects of fault intersection angle, pipe diameter, buried depth of the pipe, and soil conditions on the failure modes of buckling pipelines. The developed method can be used to analyze and assess pipeline–backfill–trench interaction when subjected to strike-slip fault displacements.

Difenoconazole-loaded (CS-DIF) microcapsules were synthesized by encapsulating difenoconazole into biocompatible chitosan. The physical and chemical properties indicated that the encapsulation and chemical loading rates were 85.58% and 61.98%, respectively. The microcapsules exhibited prominent controlled-release and surface stability performance. The cumulative release rate was only 33.6% in 168 h, and the contact angle decreased by 11.73° at 120 s compared with difenoconazole. The antifungal activity of the CS-DIF microcapsules against Curvularia lunata was confirmed through observations of colony growth, in vitro and in vivo inoculation, mycelium morphology, as well as DNA and protein leakage. The antioxidant enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase decreased by 65.1%, 84.9%, and 69.7%, respectively, when Curvularia lunata was treated with 200 μg/mL microcapsules, compared with the control in 24 h. The enzymatic activity of polyphenol oxidase decreased by 323.8%. The reactive oxygen species contents of hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anions increased by 204.6% and 164%, respectively. Additionally, the soluble sugar and soluble protein contents decreased by 65.5% and 69.6%, respectively. These findings provided a novel approach to control the growth of C. lunata efficiently, laying a foundation for reducing the quantity and enhancing the efficiency of chemical pesticides. The CS-DIF microcapsules exhibited a strong inhibitory effect on fungus, effectively preventing and controlling leaf spot disease and showing potential for field applications. This study might be of great significance in ensuring plant protection strategies.

As urbanization accelerates worldwide, understanding the impact of urban expansion on habitat quality has become increasingly critical in environmental science research. This study examines the impact of urban expansion on habitat quality in Beijing, forecasting land cover changes and ecological effects by 2030. Using CA–Markov and FLUS models, the research analyzes habitat quality from 2000 to 2030 through the InVEST model, revealing a significant urban land increase of 1316.47 km2 and a consequent habitat quality decline. Predictions for 2030 indicate varying habitat quality outcomes across three scenarios: ecological priority (0.375), natural growth (0.373), and urban development (0.359). We observed that the natural growth scenario forecasts a further decline in habitat quality, primarily due to increased low–value habitat regions. Conversely, the ecological priority scenario projects a notable improvement in habitat quality. To mitigate habitat degradation in Beijing and enhance regional habitat quality and ecological conditions, it is recommended to control urban land cover expansion, adopt effective ecological conservation policies, and systematically carry out national spatial restructuring and ecological restoration. This research provides vital decision–making support for urban planning and ecological conservation, emphasizing the need for comprehensive land cover and ecological strategies in urban development. Additionally, our findings and methodologies are applicable to other rapidly urbanizing cities worldwide. This demonstrates the broader applicability and relevance of our research, providing a framework for sustainable urban planning in diverse global contexts.

Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), as an important regulator of potato growth, seriously affects the growth and yield of potato. Although many studies have reported that IAA-producing Bacillus can promote plant growth, little research has been conducted on its synthesis pathway and molecular mechanisms. In this study, an IAA-producing strain WL35 was identified as Fitibacillus barbaricus, and its yield was 48.79 mg·L−1. The results of the pot experiments showed that WL35 significantly increased plant height, stem thickness, chlorophyll content, and number of leaves of potato plants by 31.68%, 30.03%, 32.93%, and 36.59%, respectively. In addition, in the field experiments, WL35-treated plants increased commercial potato yield by 16.45%, vitamin C content by 16.35%, protein content by 75%, starch content by 6.60%, and the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium accumulation by 9.98%, 12.70%, and 26.76%, respectively. Meanwhile, the synthetic pathway of WL35 was found to be dominated by the tryptophan-dependent pathway, the IAM, TAM, and IPA pathways worked together, and the pathways that played a role at different times were different. Furthermore, RNA-seq analysis showed that there were a total of 2875 DEGs regulated in the samples treated with WL35 seed dressing compared with the CK, of which 1458 genes were up-regulated and 1417 genes were down-regulated. Potato roots express differential genes enriched in processes such as carbohydrate metabolism processes and cellular polysaccharide metabolism, which regulate potato plant growth and development. The above results provide a theoretical basis for the further exploration of the synthesis pathway of IAA and its growth-promoting mechanism in potato.

Mulberry leaf tea (MT) is a popular Chinese food with nutrition and medicinal functions. Solid-state fermentation with Eurotium cristatum of MT (FMT) can improve their quality. Differences in chromaticity, taste properties, and flavor characteristics were analyzed to evaluate the improvements of the sensory quality of FMT. After fermentation, the color of the tea infusion changed. The E-tongue evaluation results showed a significant decrease in unpleasant taste properties such as sourness, bitterness, astringency, and aftertaste-bitterness, while umami and saltiness taste properties were enhanced post-fermentation. Aroma-active compounds in MT and FMT were identified and characterized. A total of 25 key aroma-active compounds were screened in MT, and 2-pentylfuran showed the highest relative odor activity value (ROAV). A total of 26 key aroma-active compounds were identified in FMT, and the newly formed compound 1-octen-3-one showed the highest ROAV, which contributed to FMT’s unique mushroom, herbal, and earthy flavor attributes. 1-octen-3-one, (E)-2-nonenal, trimethyl-pyrazine, 2-pentylfuran, and heptanal were screened as the potential markers that contributed to flavor differences between MT and FMT. E. cristatum fermentation significantly altered the sensory properties and flavor compounds of MT. This study provides valuable insights into the sensory qualities of MT and FMT, offering a theoretical basis for the development of FMT products.

Liver disease is a global health problem that affects the well-being of tens of thousands of people. Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) is a flavonoid compound derived from various plants. Furthermore, DHQ has shown excellent activity in the prevention and treatment of liver injury, such as the inhibition of hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation after administration, the normalization of oxidative indices (like SOD, GSH) in this tissue, and the down-regulation of pro-inflammatory molecules (such as IL-6 and TNF-α). DHQ also exerts its therapeutic effects by affecting molecular pathways such as NF-κB and Nrf2. This paper discusses the latest research progress of DHQ in the treatment of various liver diseases (including viral liver injury, drug liver injury, alcoholic liver injury, non-alcoholic liver injury, fatty liver injury, and immune liver injury). It explores how to optimize the application of DHQ to improve its effectiveness in treating liver diseases, which is valuable for preparing potential therapeutic drugs for human liver diseases in conjunction with DHQ.

Machine vision is a desirable non-contact measurement method for hot forgings, as image segmentation has been a challenging issue in performance and robustness resulting from the diversity of working conditions for hot forgings. Thus, this paper proposes an efficient and robust active contour model and corresponding image segmentation approach for forging images, by which verification experiments are conducted to prove the performance of the segmentation method by measuring geometric parameters for forging parts. Specifically, three types of continuity parameters are defined based on the geometric continuity of equivalent grayscale surfaces for forging images; hence, a new image force and external energy functional are proposed to form a new active contour model, Geometric Continuity Snakes (GC Snakes), which is more percipient to the grayscale distribution characteristics of forging images to improve the convergence for active contour robustly; additionally, a generating strategy for initial control points for GC Snakes is proposed to compose an efficient and robust image segmentation approach. The experimental results show that the proposed GC Snakes has better segmentation performance compared with existing active contour models for forging images of different temperatures and sizes, which provides better performance and efficiency in geometric parameter measurement for hot forgings. The maximum positioning and dimension errors by GC Snakes are 0.5525 mm and 0.3868 mm, respectively, compared with errors of 0.7873 mm and 0.6868 mm by the Snakes model.

Fly ash–slag-based alkali-activated materials have excellent mechanical performance and a low carbon footprint, and they have emerged as a promising alternative to Portland cement. Therefore, replacing traditional Portland cement with slag–desulfurization gypsum-based alkali-activated materials will help to make better use of the waste, protect the environment, and improve the materials’ performance. In order to better understand it and thus better use it in engineering, it needs to be characterized for performance and compositional design. This study developed a novel framework for performance characterization and composition design by combining Categorical Gradient Boosting (CatBoost), simplicial homology global optimization (SHGO), and laboratory tests. The CatBoost characterization model was evaluated and discussed based on SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAPs) and a partial dependence plot (PDP). Through the proposed framework, the optimal composition of the slag–desulfurization gypsum-based alkali-activated materials with the maximum flexural strength and compressive strength at 1, 3, and 7 days is Ca(OH)2: 3.1%, fly ash: 2.6%, DG: 0.53%, alkali: 4.3%, modulus: 1.18, and W/G: 0.49. Compared with the material composition obtained from the traditional experiment, the actual flexural strength and compressive strength at 1, 3, and 7 days increased by 26.67%, 6.45%, 9.64%, 41.89%, 9.77%, and 7.18%, respectively. In addition, the results of the optimal composition obtained by laboratory tests are very close to the predictions of the developed framework, which shows that CatBoost characterizes the performance well based on test data. The developed framework provides a reasonable, scientific, and helpful way to characterize the performance and determine the optimal composition for civil materials.

Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant challenge to public health, and is worsened by the widespread misuse of antimicrobial agents such as triclosan (TCS) in personal care and household products. Leveraging the electrochemical reactivity of TCS’s phenolic hydroxyl group, this study investigates the electrochemical behavior of TCS on a Cu-based nano-metal–organic framework (Cu-BTC) surface. The synthesis of Cu-BTC via a room temperature solvent method, with triethylamine as a regulator, ensures uniform nanoparticle formation. The electrochemical properties of Cu-BTC and the signal enhancement mechanism are comprehensively examined. Utilizing the signal amplification effect of Cu-BTC, an electrochemical sensor for TCS detection is developed and optimized using response surface methodology. The resulting method offers a simple, rapid, and highly sensitive detection of TCS, with a linear range of 25–10,000 nM and a detection limit of 25 nM. This research highlights the potential of Cu-BTC as a promising material for electrochemical sensing applications, contributing to advancements in environmental monitoring and public health protection.

Jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is the first tree species in China, with a long history and abundant yield. However, fresh jujubes have a short shelf-life and are not resistant to storage. Therefore, more and more processed jujube products are being studied. These processed products can extend the shelf-life of jujubes and attract widespread attention for their rich functional nutrients. This review summarized changes in nutrients of fresh jujube and processed products and the research progress of different preparation methods of jujubes. Meanwhile, the pharmacological effects of bioactive components in jujube-based products were concluded. Jujube and its processed products contain rich polysaccharides, vitamin C, and other functional nutrients, which are beneficial to humans. As the initial processing method for jujubes, vacuum freezing or microwave drying have become the most commonly used and efficient drying methods. Additionally, processed jujube products cannot be separated from the maximum retention of nutrients and innovation of flavor. Fermentation is the main deep-processing method with broad development potential. In the future, chemical components and toxicological evaluation need to be combined with research to bring consumers higher quality functional jujube products and ensure the sustainable development of the jujube industry.

To improve the wear resistance of the materials used for blades in engineering machinery, this study focused on the microstructural characteristics, mechanical properties, and wear behavior of HB500 grade wear-resistant steel developed using an optimized heat treatment system. To improve the temperature uniformity of the heat treatment furnace, the method of cyclic heating was used to heat the components. Carefully designing the quenching equipment, such as using a cross-shaped press, was employed to enhance the quenching effect and reduce the deformation of the steel plates. The crystal orientation analysis revealed a uniform and fine-grained microstructure, primarily characterized by plate-type tempered martensite, which indicated a good hardenability. The microstructure observations showed that the width of martensite is approximately 200 nm, with a significant presence of dislocations and carbides. Tensile tests and multi-temperature gradient impact tests indicated superior mechanical properties compared to similar grade wear-resistant steels, including a Rockwell hardness of 53, tensile strength of 1610 MPa, yield strength of 1404 MPa, and total elongation around 12.7%. The results of friction and wear experiments indicate that the wear rate decreases as the load increases from 100 N to 300 N, demonstrating an excellent wear resistance under a large load. Observations of the worn surfaces indicated that the wear mainly involved adhesive wear, fatigue wear, and oxidative wear. The properties’ improvements were attributed to microstructure refinement and precipitation strengthening. This study indicates that designing a heat treatment system to control temperature uniformity and stability is feasible.

Background: We aimed to comprehensively assess the relationship of specific dietary patterns and various nutrients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its progression. Methods: The observational study data were from the NHANES 2005–2020. We calculated four dietary pattern scores (healthy eating index 2020 (HEI-2020), dietary inflammatory index (DII), alternative mediterranean diet (aMed), and dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH)) and the intakes of various nutrients and defined CKD, CKD—very high risk, and kidney dialysis. Associations between dietary patterns and nutrients and disease were assessed by means of two logistic regression models. Two-sample MR was performed with various food and nutrients as the exposure and CKD, kidney dialysis as the outcome. Sensitivity analyses were conducted to verify the reliability of the results. Results: A total of 25,167 participants were included in the analyses, of whom 4161 had CKD. HEI-2020, aMed, and DASH were significantly negatively associated with CKD and CKD—very high risk at higher quartiles, while DII was significantly positively associated. A higher intake of vitamins and minerals may reduce the incidence and progression of CKD to varying degrees. The MR results, corrected for false discovery rates, showed that a higher sodium intake was associated with a higher prevalence of CKD (OR: 3.91, 95%CI: 2.55, 5.99). Conclusions: Adhering to the three dietary patterns of HEI-2020, aMed, and DASH and supplementing with vitamins and minerals benefits kidney health.

The influence of fabrication and assembly errors on the surface distortion due to gravity of a 2 m primary mirror and its correction method are presented. The effect of fabrication errors on the surface distortion is verified by Monte Carlo analysis. The results show that, within the 46.3% confidence interval, the surface accuracy root mean square (RMS) caused by fabrication errors is more than 5.0 nm (indicator requirement). The sensitivity of mirror surface accuracy to the matching relationship between the flexible support axial assembly position and the inherent properties (neutral surface and center of gravity) of the mirror were analyzed. Then, the correction principle of the RMS was proposed based on the analysis result. The surface accuracy RMS of surface gravity distortion is sensitive to fabrication and assembly errors, which can be effectively corrected using a flexible support mounting technique. This new flexible support mounting technique replaces the conventional method with flexible supports having shims so that adjustments can be made during testing to counteract the gravitational distortion of the mirror surface. Astigmatic aberration due to gravitational changes is effectively reduced by selecting a suitable thickness of shim, and the relationship between the astigmatism and the thickness of shim was investigated using the finite element analysis method. Finally, the finite element analysis results showed that the optimal surface gravity accuracy of the mirror assembly could be obtained by adjusting the shim, while the other performance of the assembly was not affected.

In this study, we successfully realized the hydrolytic ring-opening co-polymerization of ε-caprolactam (CPL) and lysine derivative. A novel antibacterial modified polyamide 6 with a branched structure was obtained after the quaternization of the co-polymers. The co-polymers exhibited a significant increase in zero shear viscosity, melt index and storage modulus at the low frequency region. The quaternized co-polymers displayed thermal properties different from pure PA6 and good mechanical (tensile) properties. The antibacterial activity of the quaternized co-polymers depends on the quaternary ammonium groups’ incorporated content. At 6.2 mol% incorporation of quaternary ammonium groups, the strong antibacterial activity has been introduced to the co-polymers. As the quaternary ammonium groups approached 10.1 mol%, the antibacterial polymers demonstrated nearly complete killing of Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive) and Escherichia coli (Gram negative). The above research results provided a new approach for the study of high-performance nylon.

As one of the most important ecosystems, the water body is losing water during the rapid development of the city. To understand the impacts on water body change during the rapid urbanization period, this study combines data from the OpenStreetMap platform with Landsat 5/Thematic Mapper images to effectively and accurately identify small urban water bodies. The findings indicate that the trained U-net convolutional neural network (U-Net) water body extraction model and loss function combining Focal Loss and Dice Loss adopted in this study demonstrate high precision in identifying water bodies within the main urban area of Hangzhou, with an accuracy rate of 94.3%. Trends of decrease in water areas with a continuous increase in landscape fragmentation, particularly for the plain river network, were observed from 1985 to 2010, indicating a weaker connection between water bodies resulting from rapid urbanization. Large patches of water bodies, such as natural lakes and big rivers, located at divisions at the edge of the city are susceptible to disappearing during the rapid outward expansion. However, due to the limitations and strict control of development, water bodies, referring to as wetland, slender canals, and plain river networks, in the traditional center division of the city, are preserved well. Combined with the random forest classification method and the U-Net water body extraction model, land use changes from 1985 to 2010 are calculated. Reclamation along the Qiantang River accounts for the largest conversion area between water bodies and cultivated land, constituting more than 90% of the total land use change area, followed by the conversion of water bodies into construction land, particularly in the northeast of Xixi Wetland. Notably, the conversion of various land use types within Xixi Wetland into construction land plays a significant role in the rise of the carbon footprint.

The increasing water demand and the disparities in the spatiotemporal distribution of water resources will lead to increasingly severe water shortages in arid areas. Accurate evapotranspiration estimation is the basis for evaluating water stress and informing sustainable water resource management. In this study, we constructed a surface energy balance algorithm for land (SEBAL) model based on the Google Earth Engine platform to invert the actual evapotranspiration (ETa) in typical irrigation areas in Xinjiang, northwest China, during the growing season from 2005 to 2021. The inversion results were evaluated using the observed evaporation data and crop evapotranspiration estimated by the FAO Penman–Monteith method. The water stress index (WSI) was then calculated based on the simulated ETa. The impacts of climatic factors, hydrological conditions, land-use change, and irrigation patterns on ETa and WSI were analyzed. The results indicated the following: (1) The ETa simulated by the SEBAL model matched well with the observed data and the evapotranspiration estimated using the FAO Penman–Monteith approach, with correlation coefficients greater than 0.7. (2) The average ETa was 704 mm during the growing season, showing an increasing trend in the irrigation area of the Yanqi Basin (IAY), whereas for the irrigation area of Burqin (IAB) the average ETa was 677 mm during the growing season, showing an increasing trend. The land cover type mainly influenced the spatial distribution of ETa in the two study areas. (3) The WSI in both irrigation areas exhibited a decreasing trend, with the WSI in the IAY lower than that in the IAB. (4) Climate warming, increases in irrigation areas, and changes in cropping patterns led to increased ETa in the IAY and IAB; the overall decreasing trend in the WSI derived from the popularization of agricultural water-saving irrigation patterns in both regions, which reduces ineffective evapotranspiration and contributes positively to solving the water shortage problem in the basins. This study provides insight into water resource management in the Xinjiang irrigation areas.

Estrogens can affect the immune inflammatory response through estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), but the specific role of estrogen member receptor G-protein coupled receptor 1 (GPER1) in this process remains unclear. In this study, we evaluated the effects of tetrachlorobisphenol A (TCBPA), which has estrogen activity, on immune inflammatory-related indicators of Jurkat cells, as well as investigated the role of GPER1 in these effects. The results showed that TCBPA at lower concentrations significantly promoted the viability of Jurkat cells, whereas higher concentrations decreased cell viability. TCBPA at concentrations ranging from 1 to 25 μM increased the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Additionally, treatment with 10 μM TCBPA increased the protein expression of ERα and GPER1, elevated the phosphorylation of protein kinase B (p-Akt), and upregulated the mRNA levels of GPER1, Akt, and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) genes. Treatment with 10 μM TCBPA also upregulated the protein or gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukins (IL1β, IL2, IL6, IL8, IL12α) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) in Jurkat cells. Furthermore, pretreatment with a GPER1 inhibitor G15 significantly reduced the mRNA levels of Akt induced by 10 μM TCBPA. Moreover, the upregulation of mRNA expression of RelA (p65), TNFα, IL6, IL8, and IL12α induced by 10 μM TCBPA was also significantly attenuated after G15 pretreatment. These findings suggest that TCBPA upregulates the expression of genes related to inflammatory responses by activating the GPER1-mediated PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. This study provides new insights into the mechanism of TCBPA-induced inflammatory response.

Phthalate acid esters (PAEs) are one of the most widely used plasticizers globally, extensively employed in various decoration materials. However, studies on the impact of these materials on indoor environmental PAE pollution and their effects on human health are limited. In this study, forty dust samples were collected from four types of stores specializing in decoration materials (flooring, furniture boards, wall coverings, and household articles). The levels, sources, exposure doses, and potential health risks of PAEs in dust from decoration material stores were assessed. The total concentrations of Σ9PAE (the sum of nine PAEs) in dust from all decoration-material stores ranged from 46,100 ng/g to 695,000 ng/g, with a median concentration of 146,000 ng/g. DMP, DEP, DBP, and DEHP were identified as the predominant components. Among all stores, furniture board stores exhibited the highest Σ9PAE (159,000 ng/g, median value), while flooring stores exhibited the lowest (95,300 ng/g). Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that decoration materials are important sources of PAEs in the indoor environment. The estimated daily intakes of PAEs through non-dietary dust ingestion and dermal-absorption pathways among staff in various decoration-material stores were 60.0 and 0.470 ng/kg-bw/day (flooring stores), 113 and 0.780 ng/kg-bw/day (furniture board stores), 102 and 0.510 ng/kg-bw/day (wall covering stores), and 114 and 0.710 ng/kg-bw/day (household article stores). Particularly, staff in wall-covering and furniture-board stores exhibited relatively higher exposure doses of DEHP. Risk assessment indicated that although certain PAEs posed potential health risks, the exposure levels for staff in decoration material stores were within acceptable limits. However, staff in wall covering stores exhibited relatively higher risks, necessitating targeted risk-management strategies. This study provides new insights into understanding the risk associated with PAEs in indoor environments.

An optimal spatio-temporal hybrid model (STHM) based on wavelet transform (WT) is proposed to improve the sensitivity and accuracy of detecting slowly evolving faults that occur in the early stage and easily submerge with noise in complex industrial production systems. Specifically, a WT is performed to denoise the original data, thus reducing the influence of background noise. Then, a principal component analysis (PCA) and the sliding window algorithm are used to acquire the nearest neighbors in both spatial and time dimensions. Subsequently, the cumulative sum (CUSUM) and the mahalanobis distance (MD) are used to reconstruct the hybrid statistic with spatial and temporal sequences. It helps to enhance the correlation between high-frequency temporal dynamics and space and improves fault detection precision. Moreover, the kernel density estimation (KDE) method is used to estimate the upper threshold of the hybrid statistic so as to optimize the fault detection process. Finally, simulations are conducted by applying the WT-based optimal STHM in the early fault detection of the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process, with the aim of proving that the fault detection method proposed has a high fault detection rate (FDR) and a low false alarm rate (FAR), and it can improve both production safety and product quality.

China is a major goose-raising country, and the geese industry plays a significant role in animal husbandry. Therefore, goose growth performance (body weight) is a critical topic. Goose gut microbiota influences weight gain by regulating its energy metabolism and digestion. Additionally, the impact of cecal microbial community structure on goose growth and development, energy metabolism, and immunity has been examined. However, most studies have used different additives or feeds as variables. Improving the understanding of the dynamic changes in gut microbial communities in geese of different body weights during their growth and development and their correlation with the host’s body weight is necessary. In this study, the cecal microbiota of healthy Yangzhou geese with large (L) and small (S) body weights, all at the same age (70 days old) and under the same feeding conditions, were sequenced using 16S rRNA. The sequencing results were annotated using QIIME2 (classify-sklearn algorithm) software, and the linkET package was used to explore the correlation between intestinal microorganisms and the body weight of the Yangzhou goose (Spearman). At the phylum level, the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio in the large body weight group was approximately 20% higher than that in the small body weight group, with Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes exhibiting a highly significant negative correlation. At the genus level, Bacteroides constituted the most abundant microbial group in both groups, although the Prevotellaceae_Ga6A1_group exhibited a higher abundance in the large than the small weight group. Spearman correlation analysis and the linkET package were used to analyze the correlation between cecal microflora and production performance indicators that showed significant differences between the two groups and showed that birth weight was significantly positively correlated with Deferribacterota at the phylum level. At the genus level, leg and chest muscle weights exhibited significant positive correlations with Prevotellace-ae_Ga6A1_group, suggesting its critical role in promoting the growth and development of goose leg and chest muscles. A significant negative correlation was observed between [Ruminococ-cus]_torque and Prevotellaceae_Ga6A1_group. These findings offer a crucial theoretical foundation for the study of gastrointestinal microorganisms and provide insights into the development and formulation of poultry probiotics.

Guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) can effectively improve the metabolism of energy and proteins by stimulating creatine biosynthesis. We present a study exploring the impact of GAA on production performance, serum biochemistry, meat quality and rumen fermentation in Hu sheep. A total of 144 weaned male Hu sheep (body weight 16.91 ± 3.1 kg) were randomly assigned to four groups with three replicates of twelve sheep in each group. The diets were supplemented with 0 (CON), 500 (GAA−1), 750 (GAA−2) and 1000 mg/kg (GAA−3) of GAA (weight of feed), respectively. After a comprehensive 90-day experimental period, we discovered that the supplementation of GAA had a remarkable impact on various muscle parameters. Specifically, it significantly enhanced the average daily growth (ADG) of the animals and improved the shear force and fiber diameter of the muscle, while also reducing the drip loss and muscle fiber density. Furthermore, the addition of GAA to the feed notably elevated the serum concentrations of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL−C), total protein (TP) and globulin (GLB), as well as the enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH−Px). Concurrently, there was a decrease in the levels of triglycerides (TG) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum. In addition, GAA decreased the pH and the acetate-to-propionate ratio and increased the total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) and ammoniacal nitrogen (NH3−N) levels of rumen fluid. Additionally, GAA upregulated acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) gene expression in the Hu sheep’s muscles. In conclusion, our findings suggest that GAA supplementation not only enhances muscle quality but also positively affects serum biochemistry and ruminal metabolism, making it a potential candidate for improving the overall health and performance of Hu sheep.

The gait rehabilitation knee exoskeleton is an advanced rehabilitative assistive device designed to help patients with knee joint dysfunction regain normal gait through training and activity support. This paper introduces a design framework based on the process knowledge representation method to optimize the design and control efficiency of the knee exoskeleton. This framework integrates knowledge of design objects and processes, specifically including requirements, functions, principle work areas, and the representation and multi-dimensional dynamic mapping of the Behavior–Structure (RFPBS) matrix, achieving multi-dimensional dynamic mapping of the knee exoskeleton. This method incorporates biomechanical and physiological knowledge from the rehabilitation process to more effectively simulate and support gait movements during rehabilitation. Research results indicate that the knee rehabilitation exoskeleton design, based on the RFPBS process knowledge representation model, accomplishes multi-dimensional dynamic mapping, providing a scientific basis and effective support for the rehabilitation of patients with knee joint dysfunction.
