For a gas undergoing a compression process, it is more appropriate to think of either isentropic or polytropic efficiency as process-defining parameters indicating that a given end state of compression has been achieved, rather than a measure of effectiveness of conversion of one form of energy into another. The polytropic efficiency, as defined in ASME PTC-10 standard for compressor field trials and acceptance tests, actually involves the comparison of two distinct compression processes, neither of which are actually connected to the performance of the compressors producing them. Consequently, it is not rational to compare the ASME PTC-10 polytropic efficiency of a compressor designed to compress a gas predominantly adiabatically with that for a compressor designed to compress a gas predominantly isothermally. A framework correcting this situation is set out and is illustrated with several numerical examples. Suggestions for maintaining backward compatibility with ASME PTC-10 are also put forward.

Academic researchers publish their work in various formats, such as papers, patents, and research reports, on different academic sites. When searching for a particular researcher’s work, it can be challenging to pinpoint the right individual, especially when there are multiple researchers with the same name. In order to handle this issue, we propose a name disambiguation scheme for researchers with the same name based on heterogeneous academic sites. The proposed scheme collects and integrates research results from these varied academic sites, focusing on attributes crucial for disambiguation. It then employs clustering techniques to identify individuals who share the same name. Additionally, we implement the proposed rule-based algorithm name disambiguation method and the existing deep learning-based identification method. This approach allows for the selection of the most accurate disambiguation scheme, taking into account the metadata available in the academic sites, using a multi-classifier approach. We consider various researchers’ achievements and metadata of articles registered in various academic search sites. The proposed scheme showed an exceptionally high F1-measure value of 0.99. In this paper, we propose a multi-classifier that executes the most appropriate disambiguation scheme depending on the inputted metadata. The proposed multi-classifier shows the high F1-measure value of 0.67.

Human artificial chromosomes (HACs) can be formed de novo by introducing large (>30 kb) centromeric sequences consisting of highly repeated 171-bp alpha satellite (alphoid) DNA into HT1080 cells. However, only a subset of transformed cells successfully establishes HACs. CENP-A chromatin and heterochromatin assemble on the HACs and play crucial roles in chromosome segregation. The CENP-B protein, which binds a 17-bp motif (CENP-B box) in the alphoid DNA, functions in the formation of alternative CENP-A chromatin or heterochromatin states. A balance in the coordinated assembly of these chromatin states on the introduced alphoid DNA is important for HAC formation. To obtain information about the relationship between chromatin architecture and de novo HAC formation efficiency, we tested combinations of two 60-kb synthetic alphoid sequences containing either tetO or lacO plus a functional or mutated CENP-B box combined with a multiple fusion protein tethering system. The combination of mutated and wild-type CENP-B box alphoid repeats significantly enhanced HAC formation. Both CENP-A and HP1α were enriched in the wild-type alphoid DNA, whereas H3K27me3 was enriched on the mutant alphoid array. The presence or absence of CENP-B binding resulted in differences in the assembly of CENP-A chromatin on alphoid arrays and the formation of H3K9me3 or H3K27me3 heterochromatin.

It is unknown how dogs with hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) respond to vaccination. This study measured antibodies against canine parvovirus (CPV) in dogs with HAC treated with trilostane before and after CPV vaccination, and compared the immune response to that from healthy dogs. Eleven dogs with HAC, and healthy age-matched control dogs (n = 31) received a modified-live CPV vaccine. Antibodies were determined on days 0, 7, and 28 by hemagglutination inhibition. Univariate analysis was used to compare the immune response of dogs with HAC and healthy dogs. Pre-vaccination antibodies (≥10) were detected in 100% of dogs with HAC (11/11; 95% CI: 70.0–100) and in 93.5% of healthy dogs (29/31; 95% CI: 78.3–99.2). No ≥4-fold increase in antibody titer was observed in dogs with HAC while in 22.6% of healthy dogs, a ≥4-fold titer increase was observed (7/31; 95% CI: 11.1–40.1). Mild vaccine-associated adverse events (VAAEs) were detected in 54.5% of dogs with HAC (6/11; 95% CI: 28.0–78.8) and in 29.0% of healthy dogs (9/31; 95% CI: 15.9–46.8). There was neither a significant difference in presence of pre-vaccination antibodies (p = 1.000), or response to vaccination (p = 0.161), nor in the occurrence of VAAEs (p = 0.158). Immune function of dogs with HAC treated with trilostane seems comparable to that of healthy dogs.

This paper introduces the concept of the realized hierarchical Archimedean copula (rHAC). The proposed approach inherits the ability of the copula to capture the dependencies among financial time series, and combines it with additional information contained in high-frequency data. The considered model does not suffer from the curse of dimensionality, and is able to accurately predict high-dimensional distributions. This flexibility is obtained by using a hierarchical structure in the copula. The time variability of the model is provided by daily forecasts of the realized correlation matrix, which is used to estimate the structure and the parameters of the rHAC. Extensive simulation studies show the validity of the estimator based on this realized correlation matrix, and its performance, in comparison to the benchmark models. The application of the estimator to one-day-ahead Value at Risk (VaR) prediction using high-frequency data exhibits good forecasting properties for a multivariate portfolio.
