Faba bean is an important pulse. It provides proteins for the human diet and is used in industrial foodstuffs, such as flours. Drought stress severely reduces the yield of faba bean, and this can be efficiently overcome through the identification and application of key genes in response to drought. In this study, PacBio and Illumina RNA sequencing techniques were used to identify the key pathways and candidate genes involved in drought stress response. During seed germination, a total of 17,927 full-length transcripts and 12,760 protein-coding genes were obtained. There were 1676 and 811 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the varieties E1 and C105 at 16 h and 64 h under drought stress, respectively. Six and nine KEGG pathways were significantly enriched at 16 h and 64 h under drought stress, which produced 40 and 184 nodes through protein–protein interaction (PPI) analysis, respectively. The DEGs of the PPI nodes were involved in the ABA (abscisic acid) and MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathways, N-glycosylation, sulfur metabolism, and sugar metabolism. Furthermore, the ectopic overexpression of a key gene, AAT, encoding aspartate aminotransferase (AAT), in tobacco, enhanced drought tolerance. The activities of AAT and peroxidase (POD), the contents of cysteine and isoleucine, were increased, and the contents of malonaldehyde (MDA) and water loss decreased in the overexpressed plants. This study provides a novel insight into genetic response to drought stress and some candidate genes for drought tolerance genetic improvements in this plant.

To learn more about the nutritional composition and health benefits for human consumers of peas, we used a widely targeted metabolomics-based approach to reveal the metabolite components from three main varieties, and a total of 1095 metabolites were identified. A comparison of 487 differentially accumulated metabolites shared among three varieties of fresh and dried peas found most of the amino acids and derivatives were downregulated and most of the lipids and flavonoids were upregulated in dried peas. Furthermore, comparing the main nutrient profiles exclusively showed that there were few differences in free fatty acids, sugars, vitamins, and alkaloids between dried and fresh peas. Peas are especially enriched with B-group vitamins. Through detailed identification and classification, the flavonoid pathway of peas was revealed; a variety of glycosylated derivatives from kaempferol, quercetin, and luteolin were confirmed to be abundant in peas. It was also found that isoflavones are richer in peas than in many other plants, and putatively the isoflavone synthesis pathway originates from liquiritigenin and naringenin. Our study not only offers guidance for understanding the nutritional components of peas, but also provides the basis for healthy diet analysis of the edible value and health benefits of peas.

Probiotic biofilms have been beneficial in the fight against infections, restoring the equilibrium of the host’s gut microbiota, and enhancing host health. They are considered a novel strategy for probiotic gut colonization. In this case, we evaluated the effects of various active substances from traditional Chinese medicine on Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) to determine if they promote biofilm formation. It was shown that 8–64 μg/mL of oleanolic acid increased the development of EcN biofilm. Additionally, we observed that oleanolic acid can effectively suppress biofilm formation in pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus. Next, we assessed the amount of EcN extracellular polysaccharides, the number of live bacteria, their metabolic activity, the hydrophobicity of their surface, and the shape of their biofilms using laser confocal microscopy. Through transcriptome analysis, a total of 349 differentially expressed genes were identified, comprising 134 upregulated and 215 downregulated genes. GO functional enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis revealed that oleanolic acid functions are through the regulation of bacterial motility, the iron absorption system, the two-component system, and adhesion pathways. These findings suggest that the main effects of oleanolic acid are to prevent bacterial motility, increase initial adhesion, and encourage the development of EcN biofilms. In addition, oleanolic acid interacts with iron absorption to cooperatively control the production of EcN biofilms within an optimal concentration range. Taking these results together, this study suggests that oleanolic acid may enhance probiotic biofilm formation in the intestines, presenting new avenues for probiotic product development.

With the flourishing development of corpus linguistics and technological revolutions in the AI-powered age, automated essay scoring (AES) models have been intensively developed. However, the intricate relationship between linguistic features and different constructs of writing quality has yet to be thoroughly investigated. The present study harnessed computational analytic tools and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to distill and refine linguistic indicators for model construction. Findings revealed that both micro-features and their combination with aggregated features robustly described writing quality over aggregated features alone. Linear and non-linear models were thus developed to explore the associations between linguistic features and different constructs of writing quality. The non-linear AES model with Random Forest Regression demonstrated superior performance over other benchmark models. Furthermore, SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) was employed to pinpoint the most powerful linguistic features for each rating trait, enhancing the model’s transparency through explainable AI (XAI). These insights hold the potential to substantially facilitate the advancement of multi-dimensional approaches toward writing assessment and instruction.

Tungsten (W) film is increasingly utilized in various microheater applications due to its numerous advantages. These advantages include a high melting point, positive constant temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR), good mechanical stability, and compatibility with semiconductor processes. In this paper, deposition parameters for enhancing the properties of W film were investigated, and an optimized microheater was fabricated. It was found that the deposition temperature and pressure can modify the TCR to be negative or positive and the crystalline phase of W films to be alpha phases or mixed with beta phases. A W film deposited under 650 °C with a pressure of 1 pa has a positive TCR and pure alpha phase crystalline structure. We applied this optimized W film as a microheater in an RF phase-change switch (RFPCS), and the maximum voltage of the optimized W microheater increased by at least 48% in this work. By optimizing the microheater, the phase-change switch can be successfully actuated in both on and off states, demonstrated by the Raman results of the phase-change material. A voltage pulse of 20 V/200 ns was enough to turn the switch off with MΩ, and 11 V/3 μs could turn the switch on with 138 Ω. The optimized microheater and device can cycle 500 times without failure. The insertion loss and isolation of the device at 20 GHz was 1.0 dB and 22 dB.

Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) prepared using Ba1−xSrxTiO3 (BST) ceramics exhibit high dielectric constants (~1000), low dielectric loss (50%) and with poor temperature stability. Doping-dominated temperature stability improvements often result in unintended loss of dielectric properties. A non-doping method has been proposed to enhance the temperature stability of BST capacitors. The composite gradient multilayer (CGML) ceramic capacitors with BaxSr1−xTiO3, where 0.5 < x < 0.8, as the dielectric, were prepared using a tape-casting method and sintered at 1250 °C. There exists a dense microstructure and continuous interface between the BaxSr1−xTiO3 thick film and the Pt electrodes. CGML ceramic capacitors feature a high dielectric constant at 1270, a low dielectric loss of less than 0.007, and excellent frequency and temperature stability. The capacitor showcases remarkable dielectric properties with a substantial tunability of 68% at 100 kV/cm, along with a notably consistent tunability ranging from 20% to 28% at 15 kV/cm across temperatures spanning from 30 to 100 °C, outperforming single-component BST-MLCCs in dielectric performance.

Promoting rumen development is closely related to the health and efficient growth of ruminants. The transcriptional co-activators Yes1-associated protein (YAP1) and WW domain-containing transcription regulator protein 1 (TAZ) are key regulators of the mammalian epithelium. In the present study, we assessed the impact of YAP1/TAZ on rumen epithelial (RE) cell proliferation using their activator GA-017 (GA) and inhibitor verteporfin (VP). We also investigated whether YAP1/TAZ-dependent alteration was involved in the RE developmental process induced by sodium butyrate (SB). The results indicated that GA promoted RE cell proliferation, while VP disrupted RE cell proliferation. The Hippo, Wnt, and calcium signaling pathways were altered following the regulation of YAP1/TAZ. Upon YAP1/TAZ activation, the expression of CCN1/2 increased. However, when YAP1/TAZ was inhibited, the expression of BIRC3 decreased. In the SB-treated cells, YAP1/TAZ-induced changes were not observed. SB increased the expressions of differentiated cell marker genes and genes involved in short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) metabolism, while YAP1/TAZ did not. Thus, YAP1/TAZ could be potential targets for regulating RE cell proliferation but not for SCFA metabolism. SB could not affect YAP1/TAZ. These findings broaden our understanding of the role of YAP1/TAZ and their regulators in RE development.

The faba bean, a significant cool-season edible legume crop, is susceptible to drought during the germination stage. Research regarding the genetic regulation of drought tolerance throughout this stage in the faba bean is limited. The differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in faba beans between the drought-tolerant variety C105 and the drought-sensitive variant E1 during seed germination were identified in this work, accomplished through isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) analysis. A total of 3827 proteins were identified in the two varieties of germinating seeds. Compared to those of variety E1, an increase in 108 DEPs and a decrease in 61 DEPs were observed in variety C105 under drought. Conversely, in the control group, variety C105 showed 108 significantly upregulated DEPs and 55 significantly downregulated DEPs. GO and KEGG analyses showed that the DEPs associated with glutathione metabolism and protein processing demonstrated significant increases in response to drought stress. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) analysis unveiled three closely connected functional modules of protein translation, DNA replication, and post-translational modification, originating from 22 DEPs derived from the germination period of two varieties under drought stress. To verify the proteomic function, we selected three differentially expressed protein coding genes, which were overexpressed or silenced in tobacco, thereby enhancing the drought resistance of tobacco. This was accompanied via altered levels of superoxide dismutase or peroxidase in transgenic plants under drought stress. The possible mechanism for drought tolerance in germinating seeds of faba bean involves increasing protein translation, decreasing DNA replication, and modifying chromatin. These findings offer invaluable insights into the reaction mechanism in response to drought stress in faba beans. The identified DEPs could be utilized in faba bean breeding initiatives to manage drought.

The global demand for radio frequency (RF) modules and components has grown exponentially in recent decades. RF switches are the essential unit in RF front-end and reconfigurable systems leading to the rapid development of novel and advanced switch technology. Germanium telluride (GeTe), as one of the Chalcogenide phase-change materials, has been applied as an RF switch due to its low insertion loss, high isolation, fast switching speed, and low power consumption in recent years. In this review, an in-depth exploration of GeTe film characterization is presented, followed by a comparison of the device structure of directly heated and indirectly heated RF phase-change switches (RFPCSs). Focusing on the prototypical structure of indirectly heated RFPCSs as the reference, the intrinsic properties of each material layer and the rationale behind the material selection is analyzed. Furthermore, the design size of each material layer of the device and its subsequent RF performance are summarized. Finally, we cast our gaze toward the promising future prospects of RFPCS technology.

Water shortages are the main factor restricting the survival and construction of shelterbelts in sandy areas. Comprehensive analysis of the water balance characteristics of forest stands is crucial for scientifically understanding and regulating the water supply of shelterbelts in sandy areas and formulating appropriate vegetation cultivation and restoration strategies. We simultaneously monitored outer-forest precipitation, canopy interception, stemflow, throughfall, forest transpiration, understory evapotranspiration, and soil moisture content changes in the Salix forest in the Kubuqi Desert during the main growing season (June–October) of 2022. The results showed that the total evapotranspiration of the forest was 185.62 mm, and the components and their proportions of precipitation during the same period were as follows: forest floor evapotranspiration, 94.43 mm (35.88%); stand transpiration, 68.34 mm (25.97%); and canopy interception, 22.85 mm (8.68%). Based on the water balance of the 0–60 cm soil layer and by integrating the changes in soil water storage and the influence of external water transport, the net runoff of the forestland was calculated to be approximately 77.58 mm; that is, the water balance requirements for growth were met. In the future, appropriate irrigation and supplementation can be carried out in June and July to ensure healthier growth in the shelterbelt, and plant photosynthesis and internal physiology can be further studied for cultivation in other desert areas.

Bone tuberculosis, an extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis, presents unique treatment challenges, including its insidious onset and complex pathology. While advancements in anti-tubercular therapy have been made, the efficacy is often limited by difficulties in achieving targeted drug concentrations and avoiding systemic toxicity. The intricate bone structure and presence of granulomas further impede effective drug delivery. Nano-drug delivery systems have emerged as a promising alternative, offering the enhanced targeting of anti-tubercular drugs. These systems, characterized by their minute size and adaptable surface properties, can be tailored to improve drug solubility, stability, and bioavailability, while also responding to specific stimuli within the bone TB microenvironment for controlled drug release. Nano-drug delivery systems can encapsulate drugs for precise delivery to the infection site. A significant innovation is their integration with prosthetics or biomaterials, which aids in both drug delivery and bone reconstruction, addressing the infection and its osteological consequences. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the pathophysiology of bone tuberculosis and its current treatments, emphasizing their limitations. It then delves into the advancements in nano-drug delivery systems, discussing their design, functionality, and role in bone TB therapy. The review assesses their potential in preclinical research, particularly in targeted drug delivery, treatment efficacy, and a reduction of side effects. Finally, it highlights the transformative promise of nanotechnology in bone TB treatments and suggests future research directions in this evolving field.

Facing growing contemporary crises, many scholars turn to ancient eastern religions and goddess civilizations as a means of culture root-seeking. As one of the origins of Chinese civilization, Taoist female worship (道教女性崇拜) shows profound eastern wisdom and feminine philosophy on human–nature, human–human, and human–self relationships. From feminist perspectives, this paper traces the origin and development of Taoist female worship and elaborates its classical principles—Qiwu (齊物) theory, Zhuyin (主陰), and Xujing (虛靜). On this basis, this paper discusses the contemporary practices of Taoist female worship’s classical principles—thingness re-enchantment (物性復魅), harmony world (和諧世界), and self-cultivation (修身養性)—and illuminates their realistic significance: rethinking ethical relationships, establishing efficient ethics, and helping people to resolve crises.

This paper evaluates the mechanical and thermal properties of 3D-printed short carbon fiber reinforced composites (sCFRPs). A numerical analysis was developed to predict the mechanical and thermal properties of the sCFRPs, which were verified via experimental tests. In the experiments, a novel technique was adopted by coating the sCFRPs with carbon fiber fabric and copper mesh to further improve its mechanical and thermal performance. Various copper meshes (60-mesh, 100-mesh and 150-mesh) were integrated with carbon fiber fabric to form a multilayer structure, which was then coated on the surface of Nylon 12-CF composite material (base material) to form a composite plate. The effects of the copper mesh on the mechanical and thermal properties of the composite plate were studied theoretically and experimentally. The results show that the addition of different copper meshes had a significant influence on the mechanical and thermal properties of the composite plate, which contained carbon fiber fabric, copper mesh and the base material. Among them, the mechanical and thermal properties of the composite plate with the 60-mesh copper mesh were significantly improved, while the improvement effect slowly declined with the increase in the thickness of the base material. The composite plate with 100-mesh and 150-mesh copper meshes had improved mechanical properties, whereas the influence on its thermal conductivity was limited. For thermal conductivity calculation, both the thickness and length directions of the heat transfer were considered. The comparative analysis indicated that the calculated values and experimental results are in excellent agreement, meaning that this numerical model is a useful tool for guiding the design of surface lamination for 3D-printed sCFRPs.

To address the limited number of mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) in the subfamily Steganinae (Diptera: Drosophilidae), we assembled 12 complete mitogenomes for six representative species in the genus Amiota and six representative species in the genus Phortica. We performed a series of comparative and phylogenetic analyses for these 12 Steganinae mitogenomes, paying special attention to the commonalities and differences in the D-loop sequences. Primarily determined by the lengths of the D-loop regions, the sizes of the Amiota and Phortica mitogenomes ranged from 16,143–16,803 bp and 15,933–16,290 bp, respectively. Our results indicated that the sizes of genes and intergenic nucleotides (IGNs), codon usage and amino acid usage, compositional skewness levels, evolutionary rates of protein-coding genes (PCGs), and D-loop sequence variability all showed unambiguous genus-specific characteristics and provided novel insights into the evolutionary implications between and within Amiota and Phortica. Most of the consensus motifs were found downstream of the D-loop regions, and some of them showed distinct genus-specific patterns. In addition, the D-loop sequences were phylogenetically informative as the data sets of PCGs and/or rRNAs, especially within the genus Phortica.

In order to effectively employ through-glass vias (TGVs) for high-frequency software package design, it is crucial to accurately characterize the S-parameters of vertical interconnection structures in 3D glass packaging. A methodology is proposed for the extraction of precise S-parameters using the transmission matrix (T-matrix) to analyze and evaluate the insertion loss (IL) and reliability of TGV interconnections. The method presented herein enables the handling of a diverse range of vertical interconnections, encompassing micro-bumps, bond-wires, and a variety of pads. Additionally, a test structure for coplanar waveguide (CPW) TGVs is constructed, accompanied by a comprehensive description of the equations and measurement procedure employed. The outcomes of the investigation demonstrate a favorable concurrence between the simulated and measured results, with analyses and measurements conducted up to 40 GHz.

Chloroplasts are essential sites for plant photosynthesis, and the biogenesis of the photosynthetic complexes involves the interaction of nuclear genes and chloroplast genes. In this study, we identified a rice pale green leaf mutant, crs2. The crs2 mutant showed different degrees of low chlorophyll phenotypes at different growth stages, especially at the seedling stage. Fine mapping and DNA sequencing of crs2 revealed a single nucleotide substitution (G4120A) in the eighth exons of CRS2, causing a G-to-R mutation of the 229th amino acid of CRS2 (G229R). The results of complementation experiments confirmed that this single-base mutation in crs2 is responsible for the phenotype of the crs2 mutant. CRS2 encodes a chloroplast RNA splicing 2 protein localized in the chloroplast. Western blot results revealed an abnormality in the abundance of the photosynthesis-related protein in crs2. However, the mutation of CRS2 leads to the enhancement of antioxidant enzyme activity, which could reduce ROS levels. Meanwhile, with the release of Rubisco activity, the photosynthetic performance of crs2 was improved. In summary, the G229R mutation in CRS2 causes chloroplast protein abnormalities and affects photosystem performance in rice; the above findings facilitate the elucidation of the physiological mechanism of chloroplast proteins affecting photosynthesis.

The corrosion of spring steel is very important for vehicle safety. In this work, we conducted an experiment on multi-element micro-alloy composition design; the corrosion resistance of a 60Si2Mn spring was improved by adding Cr, Ni, Cu and other corrosion-resistant elements, and the corrosion resistance index (I) was increased from 3.21 to 8.62. Hydrogen embrittlement resistance was studied using a hydrogen permeation experiment and a slow strain rate tensile experiment. For this study, the following steps were performed: Firstly, the material composition was designed, and the experimental materials that met the experimental design were prepared according to the corresponding deformation and heat treatment process; secondly, the experimental materials were charged with hydrogen; and finally, conventional tensile testing, slow tensile testing and fracture morphology testing were carried out. A hydrogen permeation experiment was carried out for the materials. The result showed that, with the increase of hydrogen charging time, the hydrogen content of two steel samples increased, and the plasticity indexes such as elongation and reduction of the area appeared in three different stages which rapidly decreased, slowly declined, and then tended to balance. The uniform NbC nano precipitated phase can double the number of irreversible hydrogen traps (Nir) per unit volume, and decreased the effective hydrogen diffusion coefficient (Deff) from 1.135 × 10−10 to 6.036 × 10−11. It limited the free diffusion of hydrogen and made the immersed hydrogen harmless, thus improving the hydrogen embrittlement resistance of corrosion-resistant spring steel 60Si2Mn.

The production and consumption of pineapple creates large quantities of residues. Ensiling these residues might help to minimize the waste burden and meet the intensive feed demand for ruminants. Proper lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are not only responsible for pineapple residual silage fermentation, but might also deliver probiotics. The aim of this study was to isolate LAB strains with probiotic functions, and to enhance intestinal antioxidant capacity from naturally fermented pineapple residues. A total of 47 LAB isolates with gram-positive, catalase-negative, nonhemolytic properties were used for probiotic screening. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) A1, C1 and C10 were susceptible to rifampicin, gentamicin and erythromycin, did not contain virulence factor-coding genes and showed good tolerance to acid (pH 3.0), 0.5% bile salt and simulated gastric and intestinal fluid. Their hydrophobicity indices were 71.92%, 45.50% and 66.90%, respectively. All of them were able to adhere to bovine jejunum epithelial cells (BJECs) and to antagonize Escherichia coli F5 and Salmonella Dublin. These three LAB strains tolerated hydrogen peroxide and significantly decreased (p < 0.05) reactive oxygen species levels in BJECs. In addition, L. plantarum C1 and C10 significantly increased (p < 0.05) the total antioxidant capacity in BJECs in the presence of 200 μmol/L hydrogen peroxide condition. L. plantarum A1, C1 and C10 are potential probiotics isolated from pineapple residual silage. This study aims to promote pineapple residue’s utilization in the feed industry.

Peroxynitrite (ONOO−), as an important reactive oxygen species (ROS), holds great potential to react with a variety of biologically active substances, leading to the occurrence of various diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. In this work, we developed a novel mitochondria-localized fluorescent probe, HDBT-ONOO−, which was designed as a mitochondria-targeting two-photon fluorescence probe based on 1,8-naphthylimide fluorophore and the reactive group of 4-(bromomethyl)-benzene boronic acid pinacol ester. More importantly, the probe exhibited good biocompatibility, sensitivity, and selectivity, enabling its successful application in imaging the generation of intracellular and extracellular ONOO−. Furthermore, exogenous and endogenous ONOO− products in live zebrafish were visualized. It is greatly expected that the designed probe can serve as a useful imaging tool for clarifying the distribution and pathophysiological functions of ONOO− in cells and zebrafish.

Aiming at the typical faults in the coal mills operation process, the kernel extreme learning machine diagnosis model based on variational model feature extraction and kernel principal component analysis is offered. Firstly, the collected signals of vibration and loading force, corresponding to typical faults of coal mill, are decomposed by variational model decomposition, and the intrinsic model functions at different scales are obtained. Then, the eigenvectors consisting of feature energy and sample entropy in these functions are respectively calculated, and the kernel principal component analysis is used for noise removal and dimensionality reduction. Finally, the kernel extreme learning machine model is trained and tested with the dimension reduced feature vector as input and the corresponding coal mill state as output. The results show that the variational model decomposition extraction can improve the input features of the model compared with the single eigenvector model, and the kernel principal component analysis method can significantly reduce the information redundancy and the correlation of eigenvectors, which can effectively save time and cost, and improve the prediction performance of the model to some extent. The establishment of this model provides a new idea for the study of coal mill fault diagnosis.

To solve the problem of low demodulation accuracy of conventional peak-to-peak algorithm for fiber-optic Fabry-Perot (FP) sensors due to failure of determining the interference order, a novel cavity length sequence matching demodulation algorithm based on a combined valley peak positioning is proposed. Firstly, a pair of a peak and its neighboring valley in the reflection spectrum is selected and positioned, and two groups of interference orders are supposed to generate two groups of cavity length sequences. Finally, these cavity lengths are compared to find the real interference order of the peak and valley for the extraction of the accurate cavity length. In order to verify the feasibility and performance of the proposed algorithm, simulations and experiments were carried out for fiber-optic FP sensors with cavity lengths in the range of 15–115 μm. A demodulation accuracy better than 8.8 nm was found. The proposed algorithm can achieve highly accurate cavity length demodulation of fiber-optic FP sensors.

This paper proposes a modified tangential contact stiffness model considering friction’s effect, which is the first key step to establish the dynamic model of the fixture-workpiece system, and this is the foundation of vibration suppression for the manufacturing process of aerospace blades. According to Love’s elastic deformation, the model’s derivation process starts with the potential function in each coordinate axis’s direction respectively. The generalized Hertz contact theory is employed to calculate the contact forces in this model. The symmetrical characteristic of the contact area has simplified the derivation process to obtain the eventual tangential contact stiffness model. A validation experiment focusing on a tangential stiffness measuring is achieved by putting two spherical objects in contact together to get the tangential contact stiffness. Based on the data collected in this experiment, a comparison with a most similar existed model is carried out, and the result shows that the relative error of this modified model are all less than 10%, while the original model’s (the most similar model) relative error exceeding 50% captures more than 3/4 of the 30 data sets randomly selected in each experiment group, and that means the modification of this paper brings great improvement to the contact stiffness model.

Corrosion behavior of 60Si2Mn-A and 60Si2Mn-B in simulated industrial atmospheric environment was investigated by alternate immersion corrosion test and electrochemical method. The phase, morphology, characteristics of corrosion products, and the distribution of Cr, Cu, and Ni in the corrosion products of experimental steel were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). The results show that the phase of rust layer is Fe3O4 and γ-FeOOH in the early stage and then changes to α-FeOOH and γ-FeOOH in the later stage; the size of the rust layer with corrosion resistance of 60Si2Mn is less than 60Si2Mn; the Cr element accumulates in the rust layer of the experimental steel in the early stage of corrosion resistance; and Cu, Ni, and Cr in the corrosion resistance 60Si2Mn are concentrated in the rust layer near the substrate In the later stage of corrosion. As the corrosion cycle is prolonged, the corrosion potential and the resistance of the rust layer of the experimental steel increases, and the corrosion current decreases; in the same corrosion cycle, the corrosion potential and corrosion resistance of 60Si2Mn-B are greater than 60Si2Mn, and the corrosion current is less than 60Si2Mn.

Seventeen new carbazole alkaloid derivatives, including a trimeric carbazole racemate, (±)-microphyltrine A (1), 15 dimeric carbazole racemates, (±)-microphyldines A–O (2–16), and a C-6–C-3″-methyl-linked dimeric carbazole, microphyldine P (17), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Murraya microphylla (Merr. et Chun) Swingle. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated on the basis of HRESIMS and NMR data analysis. The optically pure isomers of these isolated carbazole alkaloids were obtained by chiral HPLC separation and their absolute configurations were determined by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data analysis.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), one of the dangerous multidrug resistance pathogens, orchestrates virulence factors production through quorum sensing (QS). Since the exploration of QS inhibitors, targeting virulence to circumvent bacterial pathogenesis without causing significant growth inhibition is a promising approach to treat P. aeruginosa infections. The present study has evaluated the anti-QS and anti-infective activity of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a bioactive ingredient of the traditional green tea, against P. aeruginosa. EGCG showed significant inhibitory effects on the development of biofilm, protease, elastase activity, swimming, and swarming motility, which was positively related to the production of C4-AHL. The expression of QS-related and QS-regulated virulence factors genes was also evaluated. Quantitative PCR analysis showed that EGCG significantly reduced the expression of las, rhl, and PQS genes and was highly correlated with the alterations of C4-AHL production. In-vivo experiments demonstrated that EGCG treatment reduced P. aeruginosa pathogenicity in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). EGCG increased the survival of C. elegans by 23.25%, 30.04%, and 36.35% in a dose-dependent manner. The findings of this study strongly suggest that EGCG could be a potential candidate for QS inhibition as an anti-virulence compound against bacterial infection.

Selective laser melting (SLM) is an ideal method to directly fabricate products with high geometrical complexity. With low density and good corrosion resistance, aluminum alloys are widely used as important structural materials. Microstructures and mechanical properties of SLMed aluminum alloys have been recently widely studied. Corrosion behavior as a vital concern during the service of SLMed aluminum alloy parts has also drawn many attentions. Previous studies have found that SLM-processed aluminum alloys exhibit better corrosion resistance compared to the casted and wrought counterparts for both Al-Si alloys and high strength 2xxx Al alloys, which is mainly due to the unique microstructure features of SLMed Al alloys. For Al-Si alloys, with different shapes of Si networks, the different building planes show discrepant corrosion behaviors. Owing to the rougher surface with relatively larger numbers of defects, the as-printed surface is vulnerable to corrosion than the polished. Heat treatment has a negative effect on corrosion resistance due to the breakup of Si networks. The microstructure features correlated with the corrosion behaviors were also reviewed in this paper. Some suggestions on the future study of corrosion behaviors of SLMed Al alloys were put forward.

Qingxuan Jiangya Decoction (QXJYD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula prescribed by academician Ke-ji Chen, has been used in China to clinically treat hypertension for decades of years. However, the molecular mechanisms of its action remain largely unknown. In this study, we examined the therapeutic efficacy of QXJYD against elevated systolic blood pressure in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) model, and investigated the underlying molecular mechanisms. We found that oral administration of QXJYD significantly reduced the elevation of systolic blood pressure in SHR but had no effect on body weight change. Additionally, QXJYD treatment significantly decreased the media thickness and ratio of media thickness/lumen diameter in the carotid arteries of SHR. Moreover, QXJYD remarkably promoted apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells and reduced the expression of anti-apoptotic B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2. Furthermore, QXJYD significantly decreased the plasma Angiotensin II level in SHR. Collectively, our findings suggest that reversing vascular remodeling via inducing VSMC apoptosis could be one of the mechanisms whereby QXJYD treats hypertension.

Nanotechnology plays a pivotal role in the biomedical field, especially in the synthesis and regulation of drug particle size. Reducing drug particles to the micron or nanometer scale can enhance bioavailability. Supercritical fluid technology, as a green drug development strategy, is expected to resolve the challenges of thermal degradation, uneven particle size, and organic solvent residue faced by traditional methods such as milling and crystallization. This paper provides an insight into the application of super-stable homogeneous intermix formulating technology (SHIFT) and super-table pure-nanomedicine formulation technology (SPFT) developed based on supercritical fluids for drug dispersion and micronization. These technologies significantly enhance the solubility and permeability of hydrophobic drugs by controlling the particle size and morphology, and the modified drugs show excellent therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, pathological scarring, and corneal neovascularization, and their performance and efficacy are highlighted when administered through multiple routes of administration. Overall, supercritical fluids have opened a green and efficient pathway for clinical drug development, which is expected to reduce side effects and enhance therapeutic efficacy.

Soil reflectance spectra and hyperspectral images have great potential to monitor and evaluate soil texture in large-scale scenarios. In hilly areas, sand, clay, and silt have similar spectral characteristics in visible, near-infrared, and short-wave infrared (VNIR-SWIR) reflection spectra. Soil texture spectra belong to mixed spectra despite some differences in particle size, mineral composition, and water content, making their distinction difficult. The accurate identification of the content within different particle sizes is difficult as it involves capturing spectral reflection features. Therefore, this study aimed to predict soil texture content through machine learning and unmixing the soil texture’s spectra while also comparing their respective modelling performances. Taking typical cultivated land in the Jianghuai hills as an example, the GaoFen-5 Advanced Hyperspectral Imaging (GF-5 AHSI) laboratory spectra of soil samples were used to predict sand, silt, and clay particle contents using partial least squares regression (PLSR) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The entire spectra of VNIR-SWIR regions were smoothed, and the dimensions were reduced via principal component analysis (PCA). The prediction models of sand, silt, and clay particle content were constructed, and inversion maps were generated using AHSI. The results showed that the PCA-CNN model achieved a higher prediction precision than the PCA-PLSR in both ASD and GF-5 data. Clay content exhibited the highest predictive performance with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.948 and 0.908 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 26.51 g/kg and 31.24 g/kg, respectively, which represented a 39.0% and 79.8% increase in R2 and a 57% and 57.1% decrease in RMSE compared to that of the PCA-PLSR. This method indicates that the PCA-CNN model can effectively achieve nonlinear interactions between multiple spectral components and better model and fit spectral mixing processes; moreover, it provides an alternative method for investigating the spatial distribution of soil texture.

Ni/CaO, a low-cost dual-functional material (DFM), has been widely studied for integrated CO2 capture and hydrogenation. The core of this dual-functional material should possess both good CO2 capture–conversion performance and structural stability. Here, we synthesized Ni/CaO DFMs modified with alkali metals (Na, K, and Li) through a combination of precipitation and combustion methods. It was found that Na-modified Ni/CaO (Na-Ni/CaO) DFM offered stable CO2 capture–conversion activity over 20 cycles, with a high CO2 capture capacity of 10.8 mmol/g and a high CO2 conversion rate of 60.5% at the same temperature of 650 °C. The enhanced CO2 capture capacity was attributed to the improved surface basicity of Na-Ni/CaO. In addition, the incorporation of Na into DFMs had a favorable effect on the formation of double salts, which shorten the CO2 capture and release process and promoted DFM stability by hindering their aggregation and the sintering of DFMs.

The coupling between optically active substances of algae particles and inorganic suspended solids of water makes the characteristics of reflection spectra of water complex and changeable. This makes modeling and inversion of polarization remote sensing in class II water difficult. In our study, considering the influence of the mixing ratio of algae particles and inorganic suspended solids, the sensor incidence angle, and the solar zenith angle on the polarization reflection spectrum, we analyzed the coupling characteristics of the polarized bidirectional reflectance of particulate matter through control experiments of mixed components of water particles in the laboratory. With Chaohu Lake in China as an example, the polarized reflectance coupling characteristics of water particles was investigated by the water-leaving radiation. The results showed that in the characteristic bands of 570, 675, and 705 nm, the degree of linear polarization (DOLP) was sensitive to the water-leaving radiation of the particles rather than to the reflectance. With the variation of observation angle, the reflection spectra were strongly interfered with by solar flare when the sensor zenith angle was close to 50° on the meridian plane with an azimuth angle of 180°, but DOLP was less affected, while also having a low correlation in the high concentration region. Combined with the coupling characteristics of particles at 675 and 705 nm, the model of DOLP ratio was established by partial least squares regression (PLSR) with a determination coefficient (R2) of 0.91, root mean square error (RMSE) 0.035, and a verification accuracy of 0.959. This shows that the model has better prediction ability for the coupling characteristics of water particles by the polarization reflection spectra and provides good support for mixed spectral unmixing of class II water.

Sodium silicate, a new type of CO2 sorbent, has a relatively low cost, but its sorption reactivity is not yet good enough. Alkali carbonate doping is commonly used as an effective means to improve the CO2 uptake reactivity of solid sorbents. In this study, sodium orthosilicate, Na4SiO4, was synthesized and mixed with 5, 10, and 20 mol% of Li2CO3–Na2CO3 or Li2CO3–Na2CO3–K2CO3 as CO2 sorbents. The promotion of alkali carbonates on Na4SiO4 in CO2 capture was characterized using thermal analyses in an 80 vol% CO2–20 vol% N2 atmosphere. The phase evolution and structural transformations during CO2 capture were characterized by in situ XRD and Raman, and the results showed that the intermediate pyrocarbonate, C2O52−, which emerged from alkali carbonates, enhanced the CO2 capture of Na4SiO4 to form Na2CO3 and Na2SiO3 from 100 °C. Isothermal analyses showed that 10 mol% of Li2CO3–Na2CO3 was the optimal additive for Na4SiO4 to attain better CO2 uptake performance. The alkali carbonates were effective in reducing the activation energy for both chemisorption and bulk diffusion, improving the cycle stability of Na4SiO4.

The verification efficiency and precision of copper ore grade has a great influence on copper ore mining. At present, the common method for the exploration of reserves often uses chemical analysis and identification, which have high costs, long cycles, and pollution risks but cannot realize the in situ determination of the copper grade. The existing scalar spectrometric techniques generally have limited accuracy. As a vector spectrum, polarization state information is sensitive to mineral particle distribution and composition, which is conducive to high-precision detection. Taking the visible-near infrared parallel polarization reflectance spectrum data and grade data of a copper mine in Xiaoyuan village, Huaining County, Anhui Province, China, as an example, the characteristics of the parallel polarization spectra of the copper mine were analyzed. The spectra were pretreated by first-order derivative transform and wavelet denoising, and the dimensions of wavelet denoising spectra, parallel polarization spectra, and first-order derivative spectra were also reduced by principal component analysis (PCA). Three, four, and eight principal components of the three types of spectra were selected as variables. Four machine learning models, the radial basis function (RBF), support vector machine (SVM), generalized regression neural network (GRNN), and partial least squares regression (PLSR), were selected to establish the PCA parallel polarization reflectance spectrum and copper grade prediction model. The accuracy of the model was evaluated by the determination coefficient (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). The results show that, for parallel polarization spectra, first-order derivative spectra, and wavelet denoising spectra, the PCA-SVM model has better results, with R2 values of 0.911, 0.942, and 0.953 and RMSE values of 0.022, 0.019, and 0.017, respectively. This method can effectively reduce the redundancy of polarized hyperspectral data, has better model prediction ability, and provides a useful exploration for the grade analysis of hydrothermal copper deposits at meso-low temperatures.

Terminal sialic acids (Sia) on soluble glycoprotein of saliva play an important role in the clearance of influenza virus. The aim of this study is to investigate the alteration of sialylation on the salivary proteins of women during the lactation period and its effect on the saliva binding ability to virus. In total, 210 saliva samples from postpartum women with and without breastfeeding were collected, and the expression level of α2-3/6-linked Sia on the whole salivary proteins and specific glycoproteins of IgA and MUC5B from different groups were tested and verified using lectin microarray, blotting analysis and ELISA based method. The H1N1 vaccine and three strains of Avian influenza virus (AIV) were used for the saliva binding assay. Results showed that the variation in salivary expression level of α2-3-linked Sia was much more obvious than the α2-6-linked Sia, which was up-regulated significantly in the breastfeeding groups compared to the non-breastfeeding groups at the same postpartum stage. Furthermore, the binding abilities of salivary glycoproteins to AIV strains and H1N1 vaccine were increased in breastfeeding groups accordingly. This finding adds new evidence for the maternal benefit of breastfeeding and provides new thinking to protect postpartum women from AIV infection.

Rett syndrome (RTT) is a severe developmental disorder that is strongly linked to mutations in the MECP2 gene. RTT has been associated with sudden unexplained death and ECG QT interval prolongation. There are mixed reports regarding QT prolongation in mouse models of RTT, with some evidence that loss of Mecp2 function enhances cardiac late Na current, INa,Late. The present study was undertaken in order to investigate both ECG and ventricular AP characteristics in the Mecp2Null/Y male murine RTT model and to interrogate both fast INa and INa,Late in myocytes from the model. ECG recordings from 8–10-week-old Mecp2Null/Y male mice revealed prolongation of the QT and rate corrected QT (QTc) intervals and QRS widening compared to wild-type (WT) controls. Action potentials (APs) from Mecp2Null/Y myocytes exhibited longer APD75 and APD90 values, increased triangulation and instability. INa,Late was also significantly larger in Mecp2Null/Y than WT myocytes and was insensitive to the Nav1.8 inhibitor A-803467. Selective recordings of fast INa revealed a decrease in peak current amplitude without significant voltage shifts in activation or inactivation V0.5. Fast INa ‘window current’ was reduced in RTT myocytes; small but significant alterations of inactivation and reactivation time-courses were detected. Effects of two INa,Late inhibitors, ranolazine and GS-6615 (eleclazine), were investigated. Treatment with 30 µM ranolazine produced similar levels of inhibition of INa,Late in WT and Mecp2Null/Y myocytes, but produced ventricular AP prolongation not abbreviation. In contrast, 10 µM GS-6615 both inhibited INa,Late and shortened ventricular AP duration. The observed changes in INa and INa,Late can account for the corresponding ECG changes in this RTT model. GS-6615 merits further investigation as a potential treatment for QT prolongation in RTT.

In order to rationally develop and utilize a Ta–Nb–Li–Rb rare metal deposit in Jiangxi Province, the mineralogical characteristics of the ore, such as chemical composition, mineral composition, modes of occurrence of major elements, and dissemination characteristics of major minerals, were investigated in detail based on optical microscopy analysis, chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, artificial panning, mineral liberation analysis, and electron probe microanalysis. The results reveal that the main useful elements in the ore are tantalum, niobium, lithium, and rubidium. Niobium and tantalum are mainly found in the mineral form of columbite. Columbite has particle sizes ranging from 0.5 mm to 0.012 mm, with the most common sizes being 0.3 to 0.044 mm. Intergranular dispersion accounts for 73.92% of the embedding in columbite, whereas inclusions account for 26.08%. Lithium is found mostly in zinnwaldite, while rubidium is found primarily in feldspar and zinnwaldite, both in a homogenous distribution. The beneficiation evaluation of this ore was conducted based on the mineralogical characteristic, and it indicates that the tantalum-niobium–lithium–rubidium rare metal resources, as well as the feldspar and quartz non-metallic resources in the ore, can be effectively and comprehensively recovered using gravity, magnetic, and flotation separation methods. A staged grinding and separating process was adopted which could produce tantalum–niobium mineral concentrates (18.34% Ta2O5 at a recovery of 47.65% and 41.33% Nb2O5 at a recovery of 69.96%), zinnwaldite concentrate (2.41% Li2O and 0.80% Rb2O at a recovery of 81.82%) and other concentrates such as cassiterite, topaz, galena, sphalerite, and feldspar. This study provides suggestions for the rational development and utilization of the deposit and provides a reasonable level of recovery prediction.

Using ferric chloride as an oxidant, here, we investigated the leaching effect of low-nickel matte in a flow field produced by mechanical agitation. The factors affecting a leaching reaction, such as stirring speed, leaching time, low-nickel matte particle size, and inert abrasive quartz sand, were studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), a laser particle size analyzer, optical microscopy (OM), a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with an energy dispersive X-ray detector (EDS), and a Raman spectrometer were used to characterize the materials before and after the leaching reaction. The contents of the main metal ions such as Ni, Cu, and Co in the leaching solution were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Using the control variable method, the optimal experimental conditions were as follows: 2 mol/L FeCl3—0.5 mol/L HCl-H2O system with low-nickel matte and quartz sand (mass ratio is 1:5) and leaching at 90 °C for 8 h. The results showed that the blocking effect of the solid product sulfur layer was effectively removed and continuous leaching was realized. The leaching efficiencies of Ni, Cu, and Co were 98.9%, 99.3%, and 98.1%, respectively.

Drug resistance always reduces the efficacy of chemotherapy, and the classical mechanisms of drug resistance include drug pump efflux and anti-apoptosis mediators-mediated non-pump resistance. In addition, the amphiphilic polymeric micelles with good biocompatibility and high stability have been proven to deliver the drug molecules inside the cavity into the cell membrane regardless of the efflux of the cell membrane pump. We designed a cyclodextrin (CD)-based polymeric complex to deliver chemotherapeutic doxorubicin (DOX) and Nur77ΔDBD gene for combating pumps and non-pump resistance simultaneously. The natural cavity structure of the polymeric complex, which was comprised with β-cyclodextrin-graft-(poly(ε-caprolactone)-adamantly (β-CD-PCL-AD) and β-cyclodextrin-graft-(poly(ε-caprolactone)-poly(2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate) (β-CD-PCL-PDMAEMA), can achieve the efficient drug loading and delivery to overcome pump drug resistance. The excellent Nur77ΔDBD gene delivery can reverse Bcl-2 from the tumor protector to killer for inhibiting non-pump resistance. The presence of terminal adamantyl (AD) could insert into the cavity of β-CD-PCL-PDMAEMA via host-guest interaction, and the releasing rate of polymeric inclusion complex was higher than that of the individual β-CD-PCL-PDMAEMA. The polymeric inclusion complex can efficiently deliver the Nur77ΔDBD gene than polyethylenimine (PEI-25k), which is a golden standard for nonviral vector gene delivery. The higher transfection efficacy, rapid DOX cellular uptake, and significant synergetic tumor cell viability inhibition were achieved in a pump and non-pump drug resistance cell model. The combined strategy with dual drug resistance mechanisms holds great potential to combat drug-resistant cancer.

Pavements always play a predominant role in transportation. Health monitoring of pavements is becoming more and more significant, as frequently suffering from cracks, rutting, and slippage renders them prematurely out of service. Effective and reliable sensing elements are thus in high demand to make prognosis on the mechanical properties and occurrence of damage to pavements. Therefore, in this paper, various types of functionality enhancement of industrialized optical fiber sensors for pavement monitoring are developed, with the corresponding operational principles clarified in theory and the performance double checked by basic experiments. Furthermore, a self-healing optical fiber sensing network system is adopted to accomplish full-scale monitoring of pavements. The application of optical fiber sensors assembly and self-healing network system in pavement has been carried out to validate the feasibility. It has been proved that the research in this article provides a valuable method and meaningful guidance for the integrity monitoring of civil structures, especially pavements.

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterisation of a thermogelling poly(carbonate urethane) system comprising poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and poly(polytetrahydrofuran carbonate) (PTHF carbonate). The incorporation of PTHF carbonate allowed for the control of the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and decreased critical gelation concentration (CGC) of the thermogels significantly. In addition, the as-prepared thermogels displayed low toxicity against HepG2, L02 and HEK293T cells. Drug release studies were carried out using doxorubicin (Dox). Studies conducted using nude mice models with hepatocellular carcinoma revealed that the Dox-loaded poly(PEG/PPG/PTHF carbonate urethane) thermogels showed excellent in vivo anti-tumour performance and effectively inhibited tumour growth in the tested model.
