In this paper, we introduce the Secured Real-Time Machine Communication Protocol (SRMCP), a novel industrial communication protocol designed to address the increasing demand for security and performance in Industry 4.0 environments. SRMCP integrates post-quantum cryptographic techniques, including the Kyber Key Encapsulation Mechanism (Kyber-KEM) and AES-GCM encryption, to ensure robust protection against both current and future cryptographic threats. We also present an innovative “Port Hopping” mechanism inspired by frequency hopping, enhancing security by distributing communication across multiple channels. Comparative performance analysis was conducted with widely-used protocols such as ModBus and the OPC UA, focusing on key metrics such as connection, reading, and writing times across local and remote networks. Results demonstrate that SRMCP outperforms ModBus in reading and writing operations while offering enhanced security, although it has a higher connection time due to its dual-layer encryption. The OPC UA, while secure, lags significantly in performance, making it less suitable for real-time applications. The findings suggest that SRMCP is a viable solution for secure and efficient machine communication in modern industrial settings, particularly where quantum-safe security is a concern.

Industry 4.0 represents a crucial technological revolution for the modernization and competitiveness of companies, offering tools that enhance the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of industrial processes. Adopting these technologies is essential, especially in crucial sectors such as mining, where their implementation can radically transform operations. This study investigates the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies among mining and non-mining companies in Chile, using data from the Survey of Access and Use of Information and Communication Technology in Companies. A Principal Component Analysis (PCA) identified the main variables influencing technological adoption. The results indicate that mining companies are significantly more advanced in integrating technologies such as ERP, SCM, and Big Data, which optimize their operational processes and strengthen their competitiveness. In contrast, non-mining companies show a more dispersed adoption, which could limit their capacity for innovation. These findings underscore the importance of developing differentiated public policies that promote technological adoption in SMEs and less advanced sectors, also encouraging the development of internal capacities and collaboration between businesses and government to accelerate digital transformation.

The ongoing industrial revolution emphasizes the importance of precise machinery monitoring. Among these machines, induction motors (IMs) stand out due to their large numbers, which imply a significant part of industrial energy consumption. To achieve accurate in-service IM monitoring, robust modelling is required, with a particular emphasis on in situ constraints. In this study, we create a precise digital model for squirrel cage induction motors (SCIMs) that can be used in Industry 4.0 digital twin applications. To achieve this, we survey the existing literature, describe the main modelling techniques, identify the best models in terms of ease of implementation, and ensure the accuracy of our digital representation. We develop four methods, namely finite element analysis (FEA), thermal modelling, circuit-based models, and quantum-based fuzzy logic control, as a crucial first step in implementing digital twin (DT) technology for IMs. The quantum fuzzy logic is based on the transition from classical equations to the quantum equation determining the speed of the motor in the quantum world by passing through the Schrödinger equation. We propose the DT level of integration architecture for IMs based on the industry 4.0 reference architecture model. Finally, the main tools used to successfully implement DT for IMs are revealed.

Edge-assisted IoT technologies combined with conventional industrial processes help evolve diverse applications under the Industrial IoT (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 era by bringing cloud computing technologies near the hardware. The resulting innovations offer intelligent management of the industrial ecosystems, focusing on increasing productivity and reducing running costs by processing massive data locally. In this research, we design, develop, and implement an IIoT and edge-based system to monitor the energy consumption of a factory floor’s stationary and mobile assets using wireless and wired energy meters. Once the edge receives the meter’s data, it stores the information in the database server, followed by the data processing method to find nine additional analytical parameters. The edge also provides a master user interface (UI) for comparative analysis and individual UI for in-depth energy usage insights, followed by activity and inactivity alarms and daily reporting features via email. Moreover, the edge uses a data-filtering technique to send a single wireless meter’s data to the cloud for remote energy and alarm monitoring per project scope. Based on the evaluation, the edge server efficiently processes the data with an average CPU utilization of up to 5.58% while avoiding measurement errors due to random power failures throughout the day.

Modern production relies on data-based analytics for the prediction and optimization of production processes. Specialized data scientists perform tasks at companies and research institutions, dealing with real data from actual production environments. The roles of data preprocessing and data quality are crucial in data science, and an active research field deals with methodologies and technologies for this. While anecdotes and generalized surveys indicate preprocessing is the major operational task for data scientists, a detailed view of the subtasks and the domain of production data is missing. In this paper, we present a multi-stage survey on data science tasks in practice in the field of production. Using expert knowledge and insights, we found data preprocessing to be the major part of the tasks of data scientists. In detail, we found that tackling missing values, finding data point meanings, and synchronization of multiple time-series were often the most time-consuming preprocessing tasks.

Industry 4.0 and digitalization are driving a major transformation in the bakery sector. This systematic review examines the latest advancements in digital technologies and platforms within the bakery industry. Innovations such as robotics, automation, blockchain, and wireless sensor networks are currently revolutionizing bakery operations by enhancing production efficiency, enabling real-time monitoring, and ensuring product traceability. Additionally, digital platforms are improving customer interactions through e-commerce, personalized product offerings, and targeted marketing strategies. Digitalization is also contributing to waste reduction, quality control improvement, and data-driven decision-making, leading to optimized inventory management and more efficient production automation. These advancements are fostering stronger customer engagement, resulting in cost savings and increased profitability. However, the sector faces several challenges, including resistance from companies to adopt new technologies, high implementation costs, a shortage of expertise, and concerns about preserving artisanal quality. This review provides valuable insights for researchers, businesses, and industry experts to deepen their understanding of how digitalization is shaping the future of the bakery sector while highlighting emerging opportunities, challenges, and avenues for future research.

Risk-based maintenance is a well-known maintenance concept in the oil and gas sector, especially in the Norwegian continental shelf and has been supported by the NORSOK Z-008 standard since 2011. Green transition and Industry 4.0 with its digitization and technology transformations have enforced the risk-based maintenance program to be dynamic and emerging. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to identify the impact of Industry 4.0 on risk-based maintenance and define the new emerging version of risk-based maintenance. The study is based on seven case studies that have been conducted between 2017 and 2024 within the Norwegian continental shelf. It is found that Industry 4.0 impacts the entire management loop of risk-based maintenance, it enforces more toward the project phase and built-in features, it enhances the data collection and their fitness to purpose, and it enables reinforcement learning for the entire maintenance management program. On the other hand, it creates a new data flow and increases the system’s complexity, uncertainty, and associated risks.

Industry 4.0 (I4.0) represents a transformative approach, integrating technology, production methods, and information and communication technology to enhance industrial value creation. A central I4.0 goal in the energy domain is improving energy efficiency to boost industrial competitiveness and profitability. Given that induction motors account for nearly two-thirds of industrial electrical energy consumption, optimizing their efficiency is crucial. Energy management systems (EMSs) need real-time data to assess motor efficiency, enabling prompt identification and replacement of inefficient motors with alternatives that have optimal efficiency class and rated power for specific applications. This paper introduces a novel non-intrusive method for estimating the load and efficiency of induction motors without disrupting their operation. To reach that goal, the proposed method optimizes the parameters of a set of relationships between output power, input power, and losses with the motor speed, minimizing the error in the estimates. It requires only input electrical power and motor speed measurements to set the model parameters and estimates the load and efficiency using either speed or input power measurements. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method, with a mean overall error of less than 3.5% in estimating output power and efficiency, outperforms conventional methods.

The article provides an overview of the technologies used in IoRT, including hardware components, communication technologies, and cloud services. It also explores IoRT applications in industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and more. The article discusses challenges and future research directions, including data security, energy efficiency, and ethical issues. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of IoRT and demonstrate how this technology can bring significant benefits across various sectors.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, known as Industry 4.0, has transformed the manufacturing landscape by integrating advanced digital technologies, fostering automation, interconnectivity, and data-driven decision-making. Among these innovations, Digital Twins (DTs) have emerged as a pivotal tool, enabling real-time monitoring, simulation, and optimization of production processes. This paper provides a comprehensive exploration of DT technology, offering a strategic framework for its effective implementation within Industry 4.0 environments to enhance operational efficiency. The proposed methodology integrates key enabling technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning to create accurate digital replicas of manufacturing systems. Through a detailed case study, this work demonstrates how DTs can optimize production processes, reduce downtime, and improve maintenance strategies. The findings highlight DTs’ transformative potential in achieving continuous improvement, competitiveness, and operational excellence. This research aims to provide organizations with actionable insights and a roadmap to leverage DT technology for sustainable industrial innovation.

This work introduces an end-to-end methodology, from data gathering to fault notification, for the predictive maintenance of rotary components of machine tools. This is done through fingerprint routines; that is, processes that are executed periodically under the same no-load conditions to obtain a snapshot of the machine condition. High-frequency vibration data gathered during these routines combined with knowledge about the machine structure and its components are used to obtain failure-specific features. These features are then introduced to an anomaly and paradigm shifts detection algorithm. The method is evaluated through three distinct scenarios. First, we use synthetically generated data to test its ability to detect controlled variations and edge cases. Second, we use with publicly available data obtained from bearing run-to-failure tests under normal load conditions on a specially designed test rig. Finally, the methodology is validated using real-world data collected from a spindle bearing installed in a machine tool. The novelty of this work lies in performing anomaly detection using failure-specific features derived from fingerprint routines, ensuring stability over time and enabling precise identification of machine conditions with minimal data requirements.

The increasing volatility of the markets and the growing demand for customized products are challenges for future production to ensure maximum flexibility and adaptability. This paper introduces software-defined value stream process systems (SVPSs), a novel approach that extends the concept of software-defined manufacturing into autonomous, reconfigurable production systems. SVPSs establish a cyber–physical chain that links product features to requirements, enabling their fulfillment through modular machine and process hardware. A modular construction kit of individually combinable hardware and associated software modules is presented. These modules are coordinated via a digital process chain that enables holistic simulations, optimizations, and planning based on a Digital Twin. This system is based on software-defined manufacturing but extends it into autonomous reconfigurable machines. By enabling virtual planning and commissioning of entire production lines, the SVPS concept provides an efficient and adaptable solution to meet the demands of volatile markets.

Industry 4.0 has introduced a data-driven model of production and management of goods and services. This manufacturing paradigm leverages the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT), but finding the information necessary to drive manufacturing processes can be challenging. In this context, the authors propose an innovative approach based on axiomatic design to design RDF knowledge graphs from which to extract the information needed by decision makers. This approach derives from the possibility of providing RDF knowledge graphs with an equivalent matrix representation based on axiomatic design. It allows the selection of the most reliable data sources, thereby optimizing the knowledge graph construction process using matrix algebra, minimizing redundancy and improving the efficiency of query response. The goal of the presented methodology is to address the five critical aspects of Big Data (volume, velocity, variety, value, and veracity) by preordering the knowledge graph according to the information needs of business decision makers, thereby optimizing the use of the immense wealth of information made available by the Web in design.

The exploration begins by tracing the foundational concepts of Industry 4.0, emphasizing the role of cyber–physical systems, data analytics, and automation in reshaping manufacturing ecosystems. It then moves to the developments of Industry 5.0, focusing on human-centric approaches, collaborative robotics, and sustainable manufacturing strategies that extend beyond automation. The impact of AM technologies across various sectors, from aerospace and automotive industries to healthcare and consumer goods, is central to this analysis. This article synthesizes empirical studies, case analyses, and theoretical frameworks to discern the synergies, challenges, and prospects of integrating AM into Industry 4.0 and the evolving Industry 5.0. Through this bibliographic journey, readers gain insights into the transformative potential of AM as a catalyst for innovation, agility, and sustainability in the digital age. The findings underscore the need for interdisciplinary collaborations, policy frameworks, and technological advancements to harness AM’s full potential within Industry 4.0 and 5.0.

Industry 4.0 presents an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage through productivity, flexibility, and speed. It also empowers the manufacturing sector to drive the sustainability revolution to achieve net zero carbon by reducing emissions in operations. In this paper, the aim is to demonstrate a practical implementation of a smart manufacturing application using a systematic approach based on conceptual six-gear smart factory roadmap with connectivity, integration and analytics stages to build a smart production management ecosystem using off-the-shelf technologies applied in precision manufacturing. Business benefits from the smart manufacturing application implementation are realized in terms of operational performance, economic benefits, and environmental sustainability over a period of three years (before and after smart manufacturing). The productivity improves as a result of the 47% improvement made to the machines’ utilization and the 53% reduction in the total downtime waste. Economic benefits are realized in terms of a cost saving of GBP 420 K that could cost the business and the returns of the financial investment made, which is recovered within a year. An environmental sustainability impact is realized by a reduction in the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 43%, mostly due to the reduction in the Scope 2 emissions in operations by 50%, which is significantly impacted by the reduction of energy consumption and better power consumption management. The significance of this work is the bridging of the gap between theory and practice by rapidly applying the six-gear smart factory roadmap to start, scale, and sustain the implementation of smart manufacturing applications in the manufacturing industry. This roadmap can serve as a strategic framework tool for smart manufacturing implementations. The technical architecture can serve as a guide for the practical implementation of smart manufacturing applications to reduce the complexity of development. This work also bridges the gap in academia and in industry by showcasing a real-world actual business benefits realized from smart manufacturing, as well as showcasing the practical implementations, limitations, and opportunities of smart manufacturing applications in the precision manufacturing industry, all of which reduce the internal barriers and challenges facing smart manufacturing and industry 4.0 adoption. The value realized in gaining a competitive advantage and driving environmental sustainability from smart manufacturing in this study can serve as a case study for academics and for industry business leaders, digital champions, and digital lighthouses to support value creation and to drive and accelerate smart manufacturing applications, digital transformation initiatives, and industry 4.0 adoption across the value chain.

The adoption of sensors to monitor wine fermentation enables the collection of large datasets that relate the initial juice chemistry, density and temperature patterns during fermentation to fermentation outcomes. Wine kinetic models are now being applied to commercial fermentations in real time to identify abnormal or sluggish fermentations. In this work, 222 red wine fermentations from five harvests at two commercial wineries were evaluated by a wine fermentation model. The model parameters, initial juice chemistries and fermentation outcomes were analyzed for trends and relationships between them. While the fermentations with higher initial assimilable nitrogen concentrations had higher maximum fermentation rates, this did not guarantee successful fermentation outcomes in the tailing stage of the fermentation. Neither the initial, final, minimum and maximum temperatures, nor the initial pH, titratable acidity, measured yeast-assimilable nitrogen and primary amino nitrogen concentrations had any significant correlation with the maximum fermentation rate or successful completion of the fermentation. These results suggest that the initial juice-assimilable nitrogen measurements for these juices are of limited use in predicting slower and incomplete fermentation outcomes.

The occurrence of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) has led many industries to the path of adopting new technologies. Such technologies include blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). Blockchain creates the opportunity to access data and information in a decentralized manner, resulting in increased customer satisfaction. This study develops a smart newsvendor model of the food industry with consignment contracts and blockchain technology. Under a consignment policy, the central division (manufacturer) can utilize the retailer’s warehouse for storage. The producer may also have the opportunity to share the holding cost with retailers without losing the ownership of products. The main contribution of this study is to analyze the profitability of the retailing and supply chain when the blockchain technology is implemented by the food industry. Moreover, a thorough investigation of profit and loss is conducted under a consignment contract when uncertain demand is encountered. This study mainly concerns perishable food items, and increasing volatility in market demand. Two cases of probabilistic uncertainty are considered, including uniform and normal distribution. The key investigations of this study are presented in terms of (a) the effect of adopting blockchain on market demand for the food industry, (b) analysis of company profitability for perishable food items and demand uncertainty, and (c) the effect of the consignment contract under blockchain technology in the food industry. Finally, this research develops an optimization tool to numerically analyze the effect of several factors of the blockchain technology on demand. Moreover, the optimal values of the design variables and the resulting maximum profitability provide valuable insights that support industry in formulating effective policies and making informed strategic decisions.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and smart technologies into safety management is a pivotal aspect of the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0. This study conducts a systematic literature review to identify and analyze how AI and smart technologies enhance safety management across various sectors within the Safety 4.0 paradigm. Focusing on peer-reviewed journal articles that explicitly mention “Smart”, “AI”, or “Artificial Intelligence” in their titles, the research examines key safety management factors, such as accident prevention, risk management, real-time monitoring, and ethical implementation, across sectors, including construction, industrial safety, disaster and public safety, transport and logistics, energy and power, health, smart home and living, and other diverse industries. AI-driven solutions, such as predictive analytics, machine learning algorithms, IoT sensor integration, and digital twin models, are shown to proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards, optimize energy consumption, and enhance operational efficiency. For instance, in the energy and power sector, intelligent gas meters and automated fire suppression systems manage gas-related risks effectively, while in the health sector, AI-powered health monitoring devices and mental health support applications improve patient and worker safety. The analysis reveals a significant trend towards shifting from reactive to proactive safety management, facilitated by the convergence of AI with IoT and Big Data analytics. Additionally, ethical considerations and data privacy emerge as critical challenges in the adoption of AI technologies. The study highlights the transformative role of AI in enhancing safety protocols, reducing accident rates, and improving overall safety outcomes across industries. It underscores the need for standardized protocols, robust AI governance frameworks, and interdisciplinary research to address existing challenges and maximize the benefits of AI in safety management. Future research directions include developing explainable AI models, enhancing human–AI collaboration, and fostering global standardization to ensure the responsible and effective implementation of AI-driven safety solutions.

With the continuous growth of Industry 4.0 (I4.0), the industrial sector has transformed into smart factories, enhancing business competitiveness while aiming for the sustainable development of organizations. Machinery is a critical component and key to the success of production in a smart industrial factory. Minimizing unplanned downtime (UPDT) poses a significant challenge in designing an effective maintenance system. In the era of Industry 4.0, the most widely adopted maintenance frameworks are intelligent maintenance systems (IMSs), which integrate predictive maintenance with computerized systems. IMSs are intelligent tools designed to efficiently plan maintenance cycles for each machine component in a smart factory. This research presents the application of a search algorithm named state space search (SSS) in conjunction with a newly designed IMS, aimed at optimizing maintenance routines by identifying the optimal timing for maintenance cycles. The design began with the development of a new IMS concept that incorporates three key elements: the automation pyramid standard, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) sensors, and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The CMMS collects machine data from the maintenance database, while real-time parameters are gathered via IIoT sensors from the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. The new IMS concept provides a summary of the total maintenance cost and the remaining lifetime of the equipment. By integrating with SSS algorithms, the IMS presents optimized maintenance cycle solutions to the maintenance manager, focusing on minimizing costs while maximizing the remaining lifetime of the equipment. Moreover, the SSS algorithms take into account the risks associated with maintenance routines, following factory standards such as failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA). This approach is well suited to smart factories and helps to reduce UPDT.

Since the Fourth Industrial Revolution was announced in 2015, relevant key technologies have recently merged and have extensively affected our society. To provide empirical insights into the future and address expected issues in the context of transportation, this study seeks to investigate how future road infrastructure technology will shift. Going over the mainstream future road infrastructure inspired by the strategy implemented in the Korean New Deal 2.0, we extract central keywords explaining what specific technologies and political directions will prevail globally. In particular, a specific morphological analyzer, Mecab-Ko, which is suitable for Korean is selected after comparing a variety of packages. Then, a specific text mining approach is employed to collect textual online sources (news articles, research articles, and reports) written in Korean while most studies gather information written in English. Using the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF), 11 keywords were extracted from unstructured textual online sources. Topic modelling with latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) is subsequently performed to classify them into four groups: an unmanned payment system, intelligent road infrastructure, connected automated driving road, and eco-friendly road. Based on these findings, we can take a glimpse into how the future road infrastructure in Korea will be reshaped. Evidently, a digitalized road without a human component is around the corner. Fully automated systems will soon become available, and the keyword sustainability will continue to receive critical attention in the transportation sector.

The manufacturing industry must maintain high-quality standards while meeting customer demands for customization, reduced carbon footprint, and competitive pricing. To address these challenges, companies are constantly improving their production processes using quality management tools. A crucial aspect of this improvement is the root cause analysis of manufacturing defects. In recent years, there has been a shift from traditional knowledge-driven approaches to data-driven approaches. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding a systematic overview of both methodological types, their overlaps, and the challenges they pose. To fill this gap, this study conducts a scoping literature review of root cause analysis in manufacturing, focusing on both data-driven and knowledge-driven approaches. For this, articles from IEEE Xplore, Scopus, and Web of Science are examined. This review finds that data-driven approaches have become dominant in recent years, with explainable artificial intelligence emerging as a particularly strong approach. Additionally, hybrid variants of root cause analysis, which combine expert knowledge and data-driven approaches, are also prevalent, leveraging the strengths of both worlds. Major challenges identified include dependence on expert knowledge, data availability, and management issues, as well as methodological difficulties. This article also evaluates the potential of artificial intelligence and hybrid approaches for the future, highlighting their promises in advancing root cause analysis in manufacturing.

The present study introduces an integrated software approach that provides an automated product design toolkit for customized products like knives, incorporating topology optimization (TO) and numerical simulations in order to streamline engineering workflows during the product development procedure. The modeling framework combines state-of-the-art technologies into a single platform, enabling the design and the optimization of mechanical structures with minimal human intervention. In particular, the proposed solution leverages artificial intelligence (AI), shape optimization methods, and computational tools in order to iteratively optimize material utilization as well as the design of products based on certain criteria. By embedding simulation within the design optimization loop, the developed software module ensures that performance constraints are respected throughout the design process. The case studies are concentrated in designing knives, demonstrating the platform’s ability to reduce design time, enhance product performance and provide rapid iterations of structurally optimized geometries. Finally, it should be noted that this research showcases the potential of integrated modeling technologies towards the transformation of traditional design paradigms, in this way contributing to faster, more reliable and efficient product development in various engineering industries through the training and deployment of AI models in these scientific fields.

The integration of precision measurement techniques using depth scanners with PLC control provides new possibilities for increasing the efficiency and quality of measuring 3D printed products. Comprehensive analysis of measurements in combination with advanced algorithms can provide more accurate dimensional characteristics and the prediction of defects. The overall goal of such systems is to assess the accuracy and reliability of products manufactured by 3D printing technology, which will fundamentally affect their increased use in industrial sectors. The article describes the design and implementation of a control system for a servo drive used in the proposed solution of a measuring system with a depth sensor, primarily oriented to the control and precise measurement of manufactured products by 3D printing technology. The entire program plan is implemented through the CCW software ver. 12 (Connected Component Workbench) and micro motion control devices. The connection of the servo drive itself is realized by combinations of the servo drive with the HMI (Human Machine Interface) panel and the servo drive with the PLC controller. It is the PLC controller that is subject to the created program in the CCW software, which can be used to control the direction, position, speed, and acceleration of the servomotor. The result is the design of a measurement scanning system with precise motion control through a connected servo drive intended for industrial applications of object error detection and measurement of dimension accuracy.

The paradigms of Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) require functional architectures to deploy and organize hardware and software taking advantage of modern digital technologies in industrial systems. In this sense, a lot of the literature proposes and describes this type of architecture with a conceptual angle, without providing experimental validation or with scarce details about the involved equipment under real operation. Aiming at overcoming these limitations, this paper presents the experimental application of an IIoT architecture divided into four functional layers, namely, Sensing, Network, Middleware and Application layers. Automation and IoT hardware and software are used to implement and apply the architecture. Special attention is put on the software Grafana, chosen in the top layer to deploy graphical user interfaces that are remotely accessible via web. A pilot microgrid integrating photovoltaic energy and hydrogen served as scenario to test and prove the suitability of the architecture in four application cases.

The developments in sensing, actuation, and algorithms, both in terms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data treatment, have open up a wide range of possibilities for improving the quality of the production systems in diverse industrial fields. The present paper describes the automatizing process performed in a production line for high-quality bearings. The actuation considered new sensing elements at the machine level and the treatment of the information, fusing the different sources in order to detect quality defects in the grinding process (waviness, burns) and monitoring the state of the tool. At a supervision level, an AI model has been developed for monitoring the complete line and compensating deviations in the dimension of the final assembly. The project also contemplated the hardware architecture for improving the data acquisition and communication among the machines and databases, the data treatment units, and the human interfaces. The resulting system gives feedback to the operator when deviations or potential errors are detected so that the quality issues are recognized and can be amended in advance, thereby reducing the quality cost.

The fusion of quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI) heralds a transformative era for Industry 4.0, offering unprecedented capabilities and challenges. The Internet of Things (IoT) was born from the fusion of virtual and physical space and became the initiator of many scientific fields. Economic sustainability is the key to further development and progress. To keep up with the changes, it is necessary to adapt economic models and concepts to meet the requirements of future smart environments. Today, the need for electronic commerce (e-commerce) has become an economic priority during the transition between Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0. Unlike mass production in Industry 4.0, customized production in Industry 5.0 should gain additional benefits in vertical management and decision-making concepts. The authors’ research is focused on e-commerce in a three-layer vertical IoT environment. The vertical IoT concept is composed of edge, fog, and cloud layers. Given the ubiquity of artificial intelligence in data processing, economic analysis, and predictions, this paper presents a few state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) algorithms facilitating the transition from a flat to a vertical e-commerce concept. The authors also propose hands-on ML algorithms for a few e-commerce types: consumer–consumer and consumer–company–consumer relationships. These algorithms are mainly composed of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), natural language understanding (NLU), sequential pattern mining (SPM), reinforcement learning (RL for agent training), algorithms for clicking on the item prediction, consumer behavior learning, etc. All presented concepts, algorithms, and models are described in detail.

The article discusses the modeling of the use of digital twin technologies (a digital twin) for the task of organizing long-term storage of various types of documents. A digital twin in this respect differs from a digital copy, which has no connection with the real original object. A review of the problem was carried out. We argue that, despite the active use of digital twin technology in various areas, its applications in the area of long-term storage of documents remain limited. At the same time, the task of increasing the durability of documents during long-term storage remains important and largely unresolved. The complexity of solving the problem of long-term storage of documents is considered, and a formal statement of the problem of long-term storage using digital twin technologies is carried out. Destructive factors that affect long-term storage documents and significantly reduce their durability have been identified. A system of indicators has been developed to assess the durability (preservation) of documents. The modeling of the use of digital twin technology in the organization of long-term preservation within the framework of Industry 4.0 was carried out. In the course of modeling, the goals and the strategies of long-term storage were established. Primary mathematical models for controlling destructive factors as well as technological solutions for digital twin long-term storage are proposed. It is assumed that the key part of this technology is the Industrial Internet of Things. The effectiveness of the use of digital twin technologies for solving the problem was assessed. The spheres of application and further ways of research are determined.

This paper identifies skills required for workers in Industry 4.0 in France and provides insights to guide the development of a future research agenda. The research draws on a bibliometric analysis of 80 papers, mapping the technical and interpersonal skills needed for professionals to adapt and thrive in the evolving industrial landscape. The results highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach integrating competences in information technology, automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, data analysis, project management, interpersonal skills, adaptability, and collaboration. This holistic approach to skills development reveals six major domains: Technical, Flexibility, Inter-Agency, Soft Skills, Innovation, and Information Technology. The conclusions emphasize that the interconnection between these domains is essential to prepare a workforce capable of meeting the challenges and seizing the opportunities of Industry 4.0 in France. The research shows that there is a need for a multidisciplinary and integrated approach that combines technical and interpersonal skills in Industry 4.0 activities. It provides a solid foundation for formulating talent development strategies and educational curricula aligned with the demands of Industry 4.0. By proposing a future research agenda, this study not only highlights key areas for further exploration—economic impact, public innovation policies, and curriculum adaptation—but also contributes to the evolution of human resources in the digital transformation era.

Digital Twins (DT) are an emerging trend in diversified industrial sectors and their value chains. This study aims to explore current DT applications within SCs, focusing on sustainable inbound and outbound logistics and identifying key enablers that will facilitate the successful adoption of DTs in SCs. Using the PEO model and employing the PRISMA framework, this study screened articles from the Scopus database to explore the existing knowledge related to this topic. A steep increase in articles related to DTs over the past 10 years indicates that there is growing attention in exploring and leveraging this technology for various applications. The successful adoption of DTs is driven by several key factors, including advanced technological infrastructure; standardized processes; continuous improvement; knowledge workers; technologies like IoT, IIoT, AR/VR; and managerial support.

The digital revolution is rapidly reshaping supply chains, driven by the confluence of Industry 4.0 and digitalization transformations. This research aims to investigate the evolution of the digitalization transformation era by integrating machine learning and big data management into supply chain management (SCM). A systematic literature review and mapping study were conducted, analyzing 223 articles from the Scopus database and 60 from Web of Science, selected through a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) screening process and the Population, Exposure, and Outcome (PEO) framework. This study provides a narrative summary of the evolution of decision-making and consultation processes, recommendation approaches, and guidelines for enterprises to achieve sustainability in their supply chain management. It also identifies potential areas for future research in navigating the world of digitized supply chains.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Industry 4.0 and the transition towards Industry 5.0, manufacturing systems face the challenge of adapting to dynamic, hyper-customized demands. Current Simulation Optimization (SO) systems struggle with the flexibility needed for quick reconfiguration, often requiring time-consuming, resource-intensive efforts to develop custom models. To address this limitation, this study introduces an innovative SO design strategy that integrates three flexible simulation modeling techniques—template-based, structural modeling, and parameterization. The goal of this integrated design strategy is to enable the rapid adaptation of SO systems to diverse production environments without extensive re-engineering. The proposed SO versatility is validated across three manufacturing scenarios (flow shop, job shop, and open shop scheduling) using modified benchmark instances from Taillard’s dataset. The results demonstrate notable effectiveness in optimizing production schedules across these diverse scenarios, enhancing decision-making processes, and reducing SO development efforts. Unlike conventional SO system design, the proposed design framework ensures real-time adaptability, making it highly relevant to the dynamic requirements of Industry 5.0. This strategic integration of flexible modeling techniques supports efficient decision support, minimizes SO development time, and reinforces manufacturing resilience, therefore sustaining competitiveness in modern industrial ecosystems.

Background: The capacity planning of production systems is one of the most fundamental strategic problems in the creation of a production plant. However, the implementation of increasingly complex production systems combined with sophisticated automated material handling justifies the development of novel approaches to solve the combined capacity planning and material handling problem, which is also the objective of the current study. Methods: The presented approach combines the use of capacity planning formulas and discrete event simulation for optimizing extensive automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems from the aspect of the number of required vehicles. Extensive series of simulation experiments are applied in the case of each model variant for optimal results and to account for machine failures in the system. Results: The application of the proposed method is demonstrated through a realistic sample problem in a plastic industry setting with the use of the Siemens Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software (version 2302.0003, Educational license). Conclusions: The results from the sample problem demonstrate the usefulness of the approach, as a non-intuitive solution proved to be the most efficient. Additionally, the main advantage of the method is that it provides a standardized framework for the simulation-based optimization of AGV systems starting out from the comprehensive production capacity parameters.

In today’s competitive conditions, firms compete in every aspect. It is essential to meet the quality requirements in all processes and to meet customer needs quickly. It should be ensured that all processes in the enterprises, all the technology used, and all the workforce employed are included in the total quality of the enterprise; necessary controls and corrections are made; and the quality is sustainable. In this study, (1) one of the critical processes of an enterprise, the process of a material arriving at the warehouse after its procurement and the process of its storage in the warehouse, is discussed. (2) The basic processes in storing raw materials or finished products have been redesigned based on quality with the help of the Blockchain (BC) method from Industry 4.0 (I-4.0) technologies. (3) A model has been developed for the BC-based Quality 4.0 (Q-4.0). This model was applied to the warehouse management processes of an enterprise and compared with the enterprise’s existing system. (4) As a result of the comparison, it has been seen that the developed Q-4.0 model is more effective and more comprehensive. (5) Due to the originality of the developed model, such a study is not encountered in the literature.

We live in an era characterized by Society 4.0 and Industry 4.0 where successive innovations that are more or less disruptive are occurring. Within this context, the modeling and simulation of dynamic supervisory and control systems require dealing with more sophistication and complexity, with effects in terms of development errors and higher costs. One of the most difficult aspects of simulating these systems is the handling of vision sensors. The current tools provide these sensors but in a specific and limited way. This paper describes a six-step approach to sensor virtualization. For testing the approach, a simulation platform based on game engines was developed. As contributions, the platform can simulate dynamic systems, including industrial processes with vision sensors. Furthermore, the proposed virtualization approach allows for the modeling of sensors in a systematic way, reducing the complexity and effort required to simulate this type of system.

Technological progress has driven the integration of new technologies in the field of industrial automation, but a structured framework is often lacking to efficiently guide the transition from traditional industries. This article presents the implementation of advanced technologies on FESTO’s (MPS-500) modular production system, using the reference architectural model for Industry 4.0 (RAMI 4.0) as a guide for scaling. It highlights the importance of the synergy between information technologies (ITs), which enables the development of a multi-level processing system. This system performs concurrent tasks, thus managing execution and manufacturing through an MES based on requests from the cloud. On the other hand, at a lower level, a fog computing system was integrated, which relieves the processing load by distributing processes locally. In addition, matrix mapping was performed to map the integrated technologies within the context of a reference model, allowing a clear alignment between the different levels of the system. The results show a significant reduction in waiting times between batches and operations, which directly improves productivity and offers greater flexibility, that is crucial for SMEs during their growth and scaling process towards Industry 4.0.

Seafood preservation techniques have evolved from ancient methods to modern innovations like canning, freezing, and surimi production. Canning in the 19th century introduced airtight containers, while commercial freezing technologies like flash freezing extended shelf life. Surimi pastes in the 20th century led to affordable imitation seafood products. Emerging technologies continue to enhance seafood preservation methods. Moreover, the integration of digital technology, automation, and data sharing, known as Industry 4.0, is transforming various industries. This integration encompasses blockchain technology, automation, robotics, and big data analytics, aiming to enhance production, sustainability, traceability, and efficiency in fish processing. With a focus on the seafood market dynamics affecting these advances, this research was conducted with the aim to understand how technical breakthroughs in the seafood business are dispersed and implemented across different nations. We aim to determine the correspondence between the technological sophistication of machinery in seafood processing companies and map it across different countries across the globe to obtain an understanding of the generation of technology used in prominence. Variations in adoption rates and technological trends reflect regional market dynamics. The Seafood Expo ASIA 2023 study looked at the use of Industry 4.0 technologies, operational procedures, and technology adoption in the global seafood processing industry. Notably, countries like Norway, the Republic of Korea, Spain, Turkey, and the Netherlands have rapidly embraced Industry 4.0 technologies. The market factors driving these technological advancements across different countries include rising consumer demand for sustainable seafood, economic incentives, and global competition. A correspondence analysis was employed to analyze the correspondence between countries and the level of technological sophistication in the machinery used. We successfully mapped the level of technology utilized in machinery across global seafood processing companies, providing insights into the technological advancements shaping the industry.

The maritime industry is constantly evolving and posing new challenges, especially with increasing digitalization, which has raised concerns about cyber-attacks on maritime supply chain agents. Although scholars have proposed various methods and classification models to counter these cyber threats, a comprehensive cyber-attack taxonomy for maritime supply chain actors based on a systematic literature review is still lacking. This review aims to provide a clear picture of common cyber-attacks and develop a taxonomy for their categorization. In addition, it outlines best practices derived from academic research in maritime cybersecurity using PRISMA principles for a systematic literature review, which identified 110 relevant journal papers. This study highlights that distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and malware are top concerns for all maritime supply chain stakeholders. In particular, shipping companies are urged to prioritize defenses against hijacking, spoofing, and jamming. The report identifies 18 practices to combat cyber-attacks, categorized into information security management solutions, information security policies, and cybersecurity awareness and training. Finally, this paper explores how emerging technologies can address cyber-attacks in the maritime supply chain network (MSCN). While Industry 4.0 technologies are highlighted as significant trends in the literature, this study aims to equip MSCN stakeholders with the knowledge to effectively leverage a broader range of emerging technologies. In doing so, it provides forward-looking solutions to prevent and mitigate cyber-attacks, emphasizing that Industry 4.0 is part of a larger landscape of technological innovation.

The research presented in this paper aligns with the advancement of Industry 4.0 by integrating intelligent machine tools and industrial robots within Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). Primarily, a development approach for Digital Twin (DT) is presented, beginning from the design, sizing, and configuration stages of the system and extending through its implementation, commissioning, operation, and simulation-based optimization. The digitization of current industrial processes entails the development of applications based on modern technologies, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and software. The general objective was to create a digital replica of a process to propose optimization solutions through simulation and subsequently achieve virtual commissioning. The practical nature of the research is reflected in the design and implementation of a Digital Twin for a real physical system processing a family of cylindrical parts within an existing experimental FMS. A digital model of the system was created by defining each individual device and piece of equipment from the physical system, so the virtual model operates just like the real one. By implementing the Digital Twin, both time-based and event-based simulations were performed. Through the execution of multiple scenarios, it was possible to identify system errors and collisions, and propose optimization solutions by implementing complex, collaborative-robot equipment where multiple interactions occur simultaneously.

This study conducts a detailed bibliometric analysis of the concept of bank efficiency, investigating its evolution in the scientific literature between 2000 and 2024 in the context of the digital transformation specific to the Industry 4.0 era. Using recognized databases, such as Web of Science and Scopus, the research explores the main trends and themes in the field, as well as the impact of emerging technologies on bank efficiency. Eight major thematic clusters are identified, including “risk”, “‘performance”, “efficiency”, “competition”, “corporate governance” and “banking”, highlighting key dimensions of recent research. The co-citation analysis highlighted central authors like Berger, Sufian, and Casu, along with distinct thematic and regional clusters, underscoring the diversity of research directions in banking efficiency. The co-citation analysis shows the influence of leading institutions and authors, including “University Putra Malaysia”, “World Bank”, and “NBER, United States”, which have contributed significantly to the development of the literature. The results indicate that bank efficiency research is dynamic, multifunctional, and ever-expanding, providing an important foundation for future studies that will explore the challenges and opportunities for banks in the era of digitalization and sustainable development.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has transformed industries and supply chains by integrating advanced operations, tools, and logistics services. Despite these advancements, challenges persist, particularly in ensuring data dependability, security, and operational efficiency. Digital twins (DTs), which replicate real-world components and processes, have emerged as essential tools for enhancing predictive analytics, simulation, and product lifecycle management in Industry 4.0. However, traditional DT development relies on centralized systems, which are vulnerable to data tampering and security breaches, especially in the management of transaction logs and historical data. To address these challenges, this review provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of integrating blockchain with DTs. Using a qualitative research methodology, including desk research, case studies, and interviews with industry experts, we analyze various blockchain-based DT applications across industries and specifically in supply chain management. The findings reveal that blockchain-enhanced DTs can significantly improve data integrity, traceability, and security, thus boosting operational efficiency and quality control in supply chains. Additionally, this study identifies key integration techniques and the role of blockchain in automating processes through smart contracts. This review provides insights into the practical implications of blockchain-based DTs, highlighting their potential to enhance the reliability and scalability of Industry 4.0 operations.

This study explores the evolution and impact of research on the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing between 2019 and August 2024. By addressing the growing integration of AI technologies in the manufacturing sector, the research seeks to provide a comprehensive view of how AI applications are transforming production processes, improving efficiency, and opening new business opportunities. A bibliometric analysis was conducted, examining global scientific production, influential authors, key sources, and thematic trends. Data were collected from Scopus, and a detailed review of key publications was carried out to identify knowledge gaps and unresolved research questions. The results reveal a steady increase in research related to AI in manufacturing, with a strong focus on automation, predictive maintenance, and supply chain optimization. The study also highlights the dominance of certain institutions and key authors driving this field of research. Despite the progress, significant challenges remain, particularly regarding the scalability of AI solutions and ethical considerations. The findings suggest that while AI holds considerable potential for the manufacturing industry, more interdisciplinary research is needed to address existing gaps and maximize its benefits.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has radically changed the industrial world, enabling the integration of numerous systems and devices into the industrial ecosystem. There are many areas of the manufacturing industry in which IoT has contributed, including plants’ remote monitoring and control, energy efficiency, more efficient resources management, and cost reduction, paving the way for smart manufacturing in the framework of Industry 4.0. This review article provides an up-to-date overview of IoT systems and machine learning (ML) algorithms applied to smart manufacturing (SM), analyzing four main application fields: security, predictive maintenance, process control, and additive manufacturing. In addition, the paper presents a descriptive and comparative overview of ML algorithms mainly used in smart manufacturing. Furthermore, for each discussed topic, a deep comparative analysis of the recent IoT solutions reported in the scientific literature is introduced, dwelling on the architectural aspects, sensing solutions, implemented data analysis strategies, communication tools, performance, and other characteristic parameters. This comparison highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each discussed solution. Finally, the presented work outlines the features and functionalities of future IoT-based systems for smart industry applications.

The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) brought significant changes in manufacturing, driven by technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, robotics, and big data analytics. For industries to remain competitive, the primary goals must be the improvement of the efficiency and safety of machinery, the reduction of production costs, and the enhancement of product quality. Predictive maintenance (PdM) utilizes historical data and AI models to diagnose equipment’s health and predict the remaining useful life (RUL), providing critical insights for machinery effectiveness and product manufacturing. This prediction is a critical strategy to maximize the useful life of equipment, especially in large-scale and important infostructures. This study focuses on developing an unsupervised machine state-classification solution utilizing real-world industrial measurements collected from a pneumatic pressing machine. Unsupervised machine learning (ML) models were tested to diagnose and output the working state of the pressing machine at each given point (offline, idle, pressing, defective). Our research contributes to extracting valuable insights regarding real-world industrial settings for PdM and production efficiency using unsupervised ML, promoting operation safety, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement in modern industries.

This systematic review critically examines the diverse applications of Blockchain technology in the food supply chain and identifies areas where its potential remains underutilized. By analysing 60 Blockchain-based frameworks, the study highlights the most frequently employed drivers such as transparency, traceability, and security within food supply chains. Additionally, underexplored applications such as food donation and redistribution, supply chain financing, animal welfare, food waste management, and data analysis are identified, revealing opportunities for further innovation. The research employed NVivo 14 to analyze the extent of Blockchain’s implementation in various food supply chain drivers, and the findings informed the development of a more diverse framework for Blockchain integration. Key insights demonstrate Blockchain’s transformative potential, particularly in enhancing data integrity, trust, and operational efficiency through its immutable ledger and smart contracts, which streamline transactions, cut administrative costs, and reduce fraud. In terms of sustainability and safety, Blockchain improves traceability, accelerates safety responses, promotes environmental sustainability by tracking resource usage, and enhances humanitarian efforts with transparent, efficient resource distribution. Additionally, Blockchain facilitates food waste reduction by optimizing inventory and distribution, while ensuring surplus food reaches those in need. The study concludes by offering a roadmap for future research, pointing toward untapped dimensions of Blockchain’s application in food traceability, sustainable supply chain management, and environmental & social impact. While the review provides a comprehensive understanding of Blockchain’s current usage in food supply chains, the scope is limited by the systematic review process and specific inclusion criteria. This study serves as a foundation for exploring Blockchain’s broader potential in shaping the future of food supply chains.

The potential of Industry 4.0 enabling tools is emerging as a strategic factor for the adaptation and innovation of companies in the clothing sector. Thus, the aim is to identify global trends and practices in I4.0 applications in the clothing sector based on a systematic literature review. From the systematic literature review, 11 articles were selected from the Scopus and Web of Science databases. The results showed global trends in the application of I4.0 enabling tools, such as the Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and Additive Manufacturing, in addition to the benefits that I4.0 can provide in manufacturing, such as the possibility of efficient processes with lower operating costs. When studying the perception of businesspeople, the most critical dimensions were: vertical integration, flexibility, data analysis, supply chain integration, traceability, remote production monitoring, strategy, organizational culture and people. The originality of the paper is highlighted by its specific sectoral focus, emerging applications of Industry 4.0 and holistic approach to the value chain. In addition to the academic contribution in terms of mapping key global trends, identifying challenges and opportunities and providing a basis for future research, the results can provide practical recommendations for companies in the apparel sector seeking to start or accelerate their digital transformation journey.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, which is the intensified digitalization and automation in industry, embraces cyber–physical systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence, among others. This study utilizes Fuzzy Integration–Rough Set Theory (FI-RST) analysis to quantify the impacts of the imperative Industry 4.0 technologies for manufacturing firms located in Fujian Province, China, namely, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and Additive Manufacturing (AM), on the sustainable development performance of firms. The findings of the study indicate that these technologies greatly improve the effectiveness of the utilization of resources, reduce the costs of operations, and reduce the impact on the environment. In addition, they have a favorable influence on social considerations, such as preserving the well-being of employees and the outcome of training programs. This research work has convincingly provided an underlying strategic adoption of these technologies for sustainability production by raising important insights that could be valuable for industry managers and policymakers, especially those seeking sustainability at the global level.

Production efficiency is used to determine the best conditions for manufacturing goods at the lowest possible unit cost. When achieved, production efficiency leads to increased revenues for the manufacturer, enhanced employee safety, and a satisfied customer base. Production efficiency not only measures the amount of resources that are needed for production but also considers the productivity levels and the state of the production lines. In this context, online anomaly detection (AD) is an important tool for maintaining the reliability of the production ecosystem. With advancements in artificial intelligence and the growing significance of identifying and mitigating anomalies across different fields, approaches based on artificial neural networks facilitate the recognition of intricate types of anomalies by taking into account both temporal and contextual attributes. In this paper, a lightweight framework based on the Echo State Network (ESN) model running at the edge is introduced for online AD. Compared to other AD methods, such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), it achieves superior precision, accuracy, and recall metrics while reducing training time, CO2 emissions, and the need for high computational resources. The preliminary evaluation of the proposed solution was conducted using a low-resource computing device at the edge of the real production machine through an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) smart meter module. The machine used to test the proposed solution was provided by the Italian company SIFIM Srl, which manufactures filter mats for industrial kitchens. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of developing an AD method that achieves high accuracy, with the ESN-based framework reaching 85% compared to 80.88% for the LSTM-based model. Furthermore, this method requires minimal hardware resources, with a training time of 9.5 s compared to 2.100 s for the other model.

Incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies in higher education is crucial for preparing future engineers in a digitalized industrial environment. A challenge-based educational model and the agile Scrum methodology were implemented to move in this direction, combined with the use of Industry 4.0 technologies. New physical and virtual laboratories were enabled with Industry 4.0 hardware/software equipment. The engineering academic programs at the second-largest university in Chile were modified, and all the academic staff involved were trained. Based on conducting challenges that Industry 4.0 technologies can address, this study presents the results of implementing a new educational model and students’ response to freely adopting new technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and collaborative robotics. The results showed a high rate of acceptance and use of 4.0 technologies by the students, so the proposed methodology could be extrapolated to other engineering programs worldwide.

In the era of Industry 4.0, 3D printing, or additive manufacturing (AM), has revolutionized product design and manufacturing across various sectors. This review explores the evolution of 3D printing technology and its impact on industrial innovation, highlighting advancements in aeronautics, the automotive industry, and biomedicine. Various AM processes, such as binder jetting, direct energy deposition, and powder bed fusion, and materials like metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites, are discussed. Innovations like high-speed sintering, continuous liquid interface production, and bioprinting demonstrate ongoing advancements. The potential of 3D printing in personalized medical applications is emphasized due to its flexibility in geometry and materials. Despite progress, challenges like standardization, material quality, recycling, sustainability, and economic feasibility hinder widespread adoption. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for optimizing 3D printing technologies, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and affordable production. The review also addresses the future prospects of 4D and 5D printing technologies and their potential applications in various industries. This overview underscores 3D printing’s role in shaping the future of manufacturing within the context of Industry 5.0, emphasizing human–machine collaboration and sustainability.
