As an important component of lake ecosystems, plankton are often used as indicators to evaluate the health of aquatic ecosystems, such as lakes and reservoirs. The plankton integrity index (P-IBI) is a highly utilized method for evaluating the ecological health of the lakes. This study took Dianchi Lake, located in the Yangtze River Basin, as the research object and analyzed the phytoplankton, zooplankton communities, and environmental factors at 11 sampling points in this lake during the wet season (July) in 2022 and the dry season (February) in 2023. The P-IBI was established to evaluate the health status of this lake ecosystem. The results showed that a total of 83 species of phytoplankton and 31 species of zooplankton were identified in Dianchi Lake, and the number of plankton species in the dry season was significantly higher than that in the wet season. The P-IBI evaluation results for the two hydrological periods were generally “good”. Linear regression analysis showed that there was a certain negative correlation between the P-IBI value and the comprehensive trophic level index (TLI), and the evaluation results were generally in line with the actual situation of the water body. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that there was a significant correlation between the P-IBI and its constituent parameters and individual water quality environmental factors, such as total nitrogen (TN) and electrical conductivity (EC). In summary, by reducing errors caused by spatial and temporal changes across various hydrological periods, P-IBI represents a more scientifically rigorous technique for lake water ecological health assessments within a certain time range.

This study seeks to develop a fundamental comprehension of the noise challenges encountered by commercial aircraft fuselage surface attachments, such as blade antennas and pitot tubes. The study examines the flow characteristics and far-field noise directivity of a wall-mounted NACA0012 airfoil with various sweep angles (−35°, −15°, 0°, +15°, and +35°) and an aspect ratio of 1.5. The Mach numbers of the incoming flow range from 0.8 to 0.9 with a Reynolds number of about 7 × 105. Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (DDES) and the Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings (FW-H) equation are utilized. The results show that the shock wave intensity at the junction between the airfoil and the bottom wall is enhanced by the forward-swept angle. The shock wave moves and changes into a λ-type structure, while the boundary layer separates and produces shedding vortices in the junction at a smaller Mach number on the forward-swept airfoil compared to the straight airfoil and the backward-swept airfoil. These phenomena cause significant surface pressure fluctuations in the junction and result in a significant dipole noise in the far field, which is the primary source of noise in the far field. In addition, the normal Mach number and the absolute sweep angle also contribute to the far-field noise.

The identification and quantification of aeolian sand contributions are essential for understanding the formation of dune fields and mechanisms of modern surface processes. In the present study, we take aeolian sand in the Otindag dune field (hereafter, often referred to as, simply, Otindag) as the research object. The dune field’s immediate source is quantitatively identified based on heavy minerals and the Conservativeness Index (CI), Consensus Ranking (CR), and the Consistent Tracer Selection (CTS) method. The primary source area of the aeolian sand was found to be from the northwestern, upwind area of the Otindag (59 ± 14%), followed by the Yinshan Mountain (17 ± 10%) and the lake basin (23 ± 12%). The proposed sediment transport model elucidates that sediments from the upwind of the Otindag are directly transported from the northwest to the Otindag, where they are deposited. Materials from the southern Yinshan Mountains are carried by rivers to the southern edge of the Otindag, where they are subsequently transported by wind and ultimately deposited. The lake deposits within the Otindag also contribute to the aeolian sand supply under the influence of wind. This study demonstrates that the fingerprinting techniques of CI, CR, and CTS serve as successful strategies for conducting quantitative provenance research in dune fields.

Electrodeposited chromium plating continues to be widely used in a number of specialized areas, such as weapons, transport, aerospace, etc. However, the formation of texture, hydrogen content and residual stress can degrade the serviceability and lead to material failure. The effect of post heat treatment processes on the relationship of texture, hydrogen content, residual stress and corrosion resistance of hexavalent [Cr(VI)] chromium coatings deposited on Cr–Ni–Mo–V steel substrates was investigated. Macrotexture was measured by XRD. Microtexture, dislocation density and grain size were studied by EBSD. With the increase of the heat treatment temperature, it was found that the fiber texture strength of the (222) plane tended to increase and subsequently decrease. Below 600 °C, the increase in the (222) plane texture carried a decrease in the hydrogen content, residual stress, microhardness and an increase in the corrosion resistance. In addition, crack density and texture strength were less affected by the heat treatment time. Notably, relatively fewer crack densities of 219/cm2, a lower corrosion current density of 1.798 × 10−6 A/dm2 and a higher microhardness of 865 HV were found under the preferred heat treatment temperature and time of 380 °C and 4 h, respectively. The hydrogen content and residual stress were 7.63 ppm and 61 MPa, with 86% and 75% reduction rates compared to the as-plated state, respectively. In conclusion, in our future judgement of the influence of heat treatment on coating properties, we can screen or determine to a certain extent whether the heat treatment process is reasonable or not by measuring only the macrotexture.

Siraitia grosvenorii has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-regulating effects, while macrophages play an important role in reducing inflammation. However, it is still unclear whether Siraitia grosvenorii extract (SGE) is effective in reducing inflammation by regulating macrophages. This study investigated the regulatory effect of SGE on macrophage polarization in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced intestinal inflammation model after establishing the model in vitro and in vivo. The results from the in vivo model showed that, compared with the LPS group, SGE significantly improved ileal morphology, restored the ileal mucosal barrier, and reduced intestinal and systemic inflammation by increasing CD206 and reducing iNOS proteins. In the in vitro model, compared with the LPS group, SGE significantly reduced the expression of iNOS protein and cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IFN-γ) while significantly increasing the protein expression of CD206 in RAW264.7 cells. In conclusion, SGE can alleviate intestinal inflammation, protect the mucus barrier, and block the systemic immunosuppressive response by increasing M2 macrophages.

In the operation of a high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (HP-SCR) system, variations in the internal exhaust gas flow speed result in non-uniform pressure and temperature distribution within the reactor. These fluctuations, which are neither constant nor linear, can affect the safe and reliable operation of the high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (HP-SCR) system, so the strength simulation analysis is necessary. Based on the high-pressure selective catalytic reduction system of a thermo-fluid-solid coupling marine diesel engine as the research object, this study constructs a calculation model using Space Claim and utilizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) numerical simulation methods to analyze the strength of the high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (HP-SCR) reactor. The results show that the overall pressure drop of the selective catalytic reduction system is 5500 Pa, and the overall temperature rise of the reactor is 24 °C, which mainly occurs in the first layer catalyst, accounting for 62.5%. The pressure and temperature load of the reactor change along the axial direction, and the axial deformation gradient of the cylinder is more. The maximum deformation of the reactor under thermal load is 15 times that under mechanical load, and 97% of the deformation is axial.

Objective: Trauma is a leading cause of death worldwide, with many incidents resulting in hemorrhage before the patient reaches the hospital. Despite advances in trauma care, the majority of deaths occur within the first three hours of hospital admission, offering a very limited window for effective intervention. Unfortunately, a significant increase in mortality from hemorrhagic trauma is primarily due to delays in hemorrhage control. Therefore, we propose a machine learning model to predict the need for urgent hemorrhage intervention. Methods: This study developed and validated an XGBoost-based machine learning model using data from the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) from 2017 to 2019. It focuses on demographic and clinical data from the initial hours following trauma for model training and validation, aiming to predict whether trauma patients require urgent hemorrhage intervention. Results: The XGBoost model demonstrated superior performance across multiple datasets, achieving an AUROC of 0.872 on the training set, 0.869 on the internal validation set, and 0.875 on the external validation set. The model also showed high sensitivity (77.8% on the external validation set) and specificity (82.1% on the external validation set), with an accuracy exceeding 81% across all datasets, highlighting its high reliability for clinical applications. Conclusions: Our study shows that the XGBoost model effectively predicts urgent hemorrhage interventions using data from the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB). It outperforms other machine learning algorithms in accuracy and robustness across various datasets. These results highlight machine learning’s potential to improve emergency responses and decision-making in trauma care.

PEEK (Poly Ether Ether Ketone) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer with excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical stability. PEEK has good performance, and is widely used in hydraulic motors. However, there are few studies on the friction and wear properties of materials under the condition of oil lubrication with wide application. The modification of PEEK and the expansion of its application have become a hot research topic in the industry. This study focuses on the modification of the design of PEEK and explores the friction and wear characteristics of self-lubricating materials under different modification schemes. Friction and wear samples were prepared using PEEK-modification pelletizing and injection-molding processes, followed by fixed-condition friction and wear tests. The tribological mechanisms and wear properties of the materials under different modification schemes were analyzed, leading to the identification of several sets of improved reinforced materials. Experimental results demonstrate that modified materials can enhance surface tribological performance, with the best modification effect observed at an SCF filling rate of 15%. The modified PEEK material can better meet the requirements of specific applications, such as high-temperature environments, chemically aggressive environments, or applications requiring high strength and wear resistance.

Poly Ether Ether Ketone (PEEK) is a kind of special engineering plastic with excellent properties such as high-temperature resistance, self-lubrication, wear resistance, and high mechanical strength. However, its blending or composite modification applications still face numerous challenges. The primary objective of this research was to evaluate the friction and wear performance of a three-layer self-lubricating bearing bush, which was made from a modified material containing short carbon fiber and Poly Ether Ether Ketone (SCF/PEEK). The bearing bush is used as a surface contact layer on the pistons of a hydraulic motor in the interface with the cam roller. The bearing bush was processed using a 15% SCF-modified PEEK material, and the friction and wear test was conducted using a self-built friction test machine. This study aimed to assess the frictional and wear characteristics of the SCF/PEEK-modified material in the bearing bush. The results show that as the experimental pressure rises from 15 MPa to 25 MPa, the friction coefficient of the SCF-modified bearing bush experiences a significant decrease from 0.420 to 0.296. Furthermore, the stability of the frictional morphology of carbon fibers indicates its effective adaptability to low speed and high load conditions.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG), recognized as the fossil fuel with the lowest carbon emission intensity, is a crucial transitional energy source in the global shift towards low-carbon energy. As the natural gas industry undergoes rapid expansion, the complexity of investment business models has increased significantly. Optimizing the combination of various segments within the value chain has become standard practice, making it essential to control risks and enhance economic benefits in these multifaceted scenarios. This paper introduces an integrated economic model encompassing upstream, liquefaction, shipping, regasification, and consumption, suitable for both upstream and downstream integration. The model offers a comprehensive analysis of the primary business models and key factors across each segment of the value chain. By constructing a robust economic evaluation framework, the study aims to provide a holistic approach to understanding the economic feasibility of LNG projects. Two detailed case studies are conducted to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of the proposed model, highlighting its capability to guide investment decisions, support risk management, and optimize asset portfolios. The integrated economic model developed in this study serves as a valuable tool for stakeholders in the LNG industry. It not only facilitates informed investment decision-making but also enhances the strategic management of risks and resources. By leveraging this model, investors and managers can better navigate the complexities of the LNG business, ensuring sustainable and economically viable operations.

Alfin-like (AL) is a small plant-specific gene family characterized by a PHD-finger-like structural domain at the C-terminus and a DUF3594 structural domain at the N-terminus, and these genes play prominent roles in plant development and abiotic stress response. In this study, we conducted genome-wide identification and analyzed the AL protein family in Gossypium hirsutum cv. NDM8 to assess their response to various abiotic stresses for the first time. A total of 26 AL genes were identified in NDM8 and classified into four groups based on a phylogenetic tree. Moreover, cis-acting element analysis revealed that multiple phytohormone response and abiotic stress response elements were highly prevalent in AL gene promoters. Further, we discovered that the GhAL19 gene could negatively regulate drought and salt stresses via physiological and biochemical changes, gene expression, and the VIGS assay. The study found there was a significant increase in POD and SOD activity, as well as a significant change in MDA in VIGS-NaCl and VIGS-PEG plants. Transcriptome analysis demonstrated that the expression levels of the ABA biosynthesis gene (GhNCED1), signaling genes (GhABI1, GhABI2, and GhABI5), responsive genes (GhCOR47, GhRD22, and GhERFs), and the stress-related marker gene GhLEA14 were regulated in VIGS lines under drought and NaCl treatment. In summary, GhAL19 as an AL TF may negatively regulate tolerance to drought and salt by regulating the antioxidant capacity and ABA-mediated pathway.

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) are flexible and comprehensive tools for identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with complex traits or diseases. The whole-genome Bayesian models are an effective way of incorporating important prior information into modeling. Bayesian methods have been widely used in association analysis. However, Bayesian analysis is often not feasible due to the high-throughput genotype and large sample sizes involved. In this study, we propose a new Bayesian algorithm under the mixed linear model framework: the expectation and maximization BayesB Improved algorithm (emBBI). The emBBI algorithm corrects polygenic and environmental noise and reduces dimensions; then, it estimates and tests marker effects using emBayesB and the LOD test, respectively. We conducted two simulation experiments and analyzed a real dataset related to flowering time in Arabidopsis to demonstrate the validation of the new algorithm. The results show that the emBBI algorithm is more flexible and accurate in simulation studies compared to established methods, and it performs well under complex genetic backgrounds. The analysis of the Arabidopsis real dataset further illustrates the advantages of the emBBI algorithm for GWAS by detecting known genes. Furthermore, 12 candidate genes are identified in the neighborhood of the significant quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) of flowering-related QTNs in Arabidopsis. In addition, we also performed enrichment analysis and tissue expression analysis of candidate genes, which will help us better understand the genetic basis of flowering-related traits in Arabidopsis.

Overground rock is a prominent feature of rocky desertification landscape in karst farmland; however, people often pay attention to their adverse effects, leaving their positive effects on ecohydrological processes and plant growth as rarely studied and utilized. In this study, the effects of overground rock film mulching (ORFM) on soil water flow behavior, soil water content and temporal and spatial heterogeneity were investigated through a dye tracer test and soil moisture measurement. Moreover, the effects of this technology on the root characteristics of crops (maize and broad bean) were analyzed. The results showed that ORFM treatment significantly increased soil water content and its spatio-temporal heterogeneity by preventing preferential flow at the rock–soil interface. It suggested that this practice can provide a more favorable soil moisture environment for crop growth, which was confirmed by the differences in root characteristics of crops (maize and broad bean) under different treatments in this study. It was found that ORFM treatment reduced the root radial extent of crops but increased the root biomass and root bifurcation rate, which are widely considered to be key factors in improving the efficiency of fine root absorption. Therefore, we believe that ORFM has great potential to improve the effective use of soil water and agricultural water management in karst areas, which is essential for sustainable agricultural development in the region.

MCrAlY (M = Ni and/or Co) metallic coatings are essential for the protection of hot-end components against thermal and corrosion damage. Increasing the Al content is considered a feasible solution to improve the high-temperature performance of MCrAlY coatings. In this paper, the effects of high Al contents (12–20 wt.%) on the phase constituents and cast microstructures in MCrAlY alloys were studied by high-energy X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy techniques combined with phase equilibria calculations. High Al content improved the stability of β, σ, and α phases. Meanwhile, an evolution of the cast microstructure morphology from a dendrite structure to an equiaxed grain structure was observed. The thermal properties were analyzed, which were closely related to the phase constituents and solid-to-solid phase transitions at evaluated temperatures. This work is instructive for developing high-Al-content MCrAlY coatings for next-generation thermal barrier applications.

PET/PA6, hollow, segmented-pie, microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6 HSMNs) play an important role in a microfiber, synthetic leather base. Most of the current PET/PA6 HSMNs generally lack in hygiene performance. Moreover, there is an urgent need for the asymmetric wettability of PET/PA6 HSMNs to ensure the comfort of clothing. In this work, a novel, asymmetrically wettable, PET/PA6 HSMN with a gradient structure is proposed, which can regulate liquid adsorption and directional transport. An MOF-303 was successfully synthesized and loaded onto the PET/PA6 HSMN, which had been pre-treated with gradient hydrolysis under sulfuric acid. The droplet quickly permeated the modified PET/PA6 HSMN, and the droplet disappearance time decreased to 62.40 ms. The liquid strikethrough time of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN reached 5.16 s. The maximum adsorption capacity of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN was 68.161 mg/g, which was improved by 122.83%. In addition, the air permeability of the pre-treated PET/PA6 HSMN increased from 308.70 mm/s to 469.97 mm/s, with the sulfuric acid concentrations increasing from 0% to 20%, and the air permeability of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN decreased gradually from 247.37 mm/s to 161.50 mm/s. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN treated with sulfuric acid and MOF-303 was also obviously enhanced compared with the PET/PA6 HSMN treated with pure sulfuric acid. This PET/PA6 HSMN, with asymmetric wettability, owing to its high hygiene performance and water transport capabilities, is promising and able to extend the application of a microfiber synthetic leather base for clothing.

Recent research has demonstrated the positive impact of herbal tea consumption on postprandial blood glucose regulation. This study conducts a comparative analysis of aqueous and ethanol extractions on four herbal teas (Mallotus, Cyclocarya, Rubus, and Vine) to assess their phytochemical profiles and functional attributes. Phytochemical contents, antioxidant activities, α-glucosidase inhibitory activities, and chemical compositions are investigated via colorimetric analyses and UPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS/MS, respectively. Results indicate that Vine, among the teas studied, exhibits the most pronounced glucose-regulating effects under both extraction methods. While ethanol extractions yield higher phytochemical content overall, the compositions vary. Conversely, aqueous extracts demonstrate unexpectedly potent antioxidant activities and comparable α-glucosidase inhibitory activities to ethanol extracts. Phytochemical contents correlate positively with antioxidant activities and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. However, antioxidant activities exhibit a weak positive correlation with α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. These findings provide evidence that aqueous extracts from herbal teas contain valuable phytochemical compositions beneficial for antioxidants and individuals with hyperglycemia, suggesting their potential as functional ingredients to enhance the nutritional value of herbal food products.

When there is vegetation on the beach or main channel bed, it will have a significant impact on the river channel. This study was based on physical model experiments to investigate the flow conditions of the Jinhu section of the Huaihe River estuary, revealing the influence of reed vegetation on water flow resistance. A new comprehensive roughness formula was proposed, and the predictive effectiveness of the formula was verified. The theoretical results indicate that under the condition of vegetation not being submerged, the comprehensive roughness is directly proportional to the square root of vegetation density in areas with vegetation coverage, the square root of water surface vegetation coverage, and the 2/3 power of the hydraulic radius. The bottom slope does not affect it. Under the condition of vegetation inundation, the comprehensive roughness is smaller than that under the condition of no inundation. The experimental prediction results of the influence of reeds on roughness indicate that the measured roughness values and theoretical roughness calculation values are in good agreement. Under the same operating conditions, the roughness gradually decreases with an increase in flow rate. Under the full-reed working condition, the calculated roughness value and the measured roughness value have the same trend of change, both decreasing with the increase in flow rate. The experimental prediction results of the influence of reeds on the relationship between water level and flow rate show that the roughness value of 0 increases with the increase in reed grass surface coverage rate Ki, and an increase in Ki can lead to an increase in comprehensive roughness.

On the basis of the chaotic system proposed by Wang et al. in 2023, this paper constructs a 5D fractional-order memristive hyperchaotic system (FOMHS) with multiple coexisting attractors through coupling of magnetic control memristors and dimension expansion. Firstly, the divergence, Kaplan–Yorke dimension, and equilibrium stability of the chaotic model are studied. Subsequently, we explore the construction of the 5D FOMHS, introducing the definitions of the Caputo differential operator and the Riemann–Liouville integral operator and employing the Adomian resolving approach to decompose the linears, the nonlinears, and the constants of the system. The complex dynamic characteristics of the system are analyzed by phase diagrams, Lyapunov exponent spectra, time-domain diagrams, etc. Finally, the hardware circuit of the proposed 5D FOMHS is performed by FPGA, and its randomness is verified using the NIST tool.

CeO2-ZrO2-La2O3 supported Pt-Pd bimetallic three-way catalysts (0.6Pt-0.4Pd/CZL) were synthesized through the conventional impregnation method and then subjected to severe thermal aging. Reactivating treatments under different temperatures were then applied to the aged catalysts above. Three-way catalytic performance evaluations and dynamic operation window tests along with detailed physio-chemical characterizations were carried out to explore possible structure–activity evolutions during the reactivating process. Results show that the reactivating process conducted at proper temperatures (500~550 °C) could effectively restore the TWC catalytic performance and widen the operation window width. The suitable reactivating temperature ranges are mainly determined by the decomposing temperature of PMOx species, the thermal stability of PM-O-Ce species, and the encapsulation temperature of precious metals by CZL support. Reactivating under appropriate temperature helps to restore the interaction between Pt and CZL support to a certain extent and to re-expose part of the encapsulated precious metals. Therefore, the dynamic oxygen storage/release capacity, redox ability, as well as thermal stability of PtOx species, can be improved, thus benefiting the TWC catalytic performances. However, the excessively high reactivating temperature would cause further embedment of Pd by CZL support, thus leading to a further decrease in both dynamic oxygen storage/release capacity and the TWC catalytic performance after reactivating treatment.

Within the context of a smart home, detecting the operating status of appliances in the environment plays a pivotal role, estimating power consumption, issuing overuse reminders, and identifying faults. The traditional contact-based approaches require equipment updates such as incorporating smart sockets or high-precision electric meters. Non-constant approaches involve the use of technologies like laser and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radar. The former can only monitor one appliance at a time, and the latter is unable to detect appliances with extremely tiny vibrations and tends to be susceptible to interference from human activities. To address these challenges, we introduce HomeOSD, an advanced appliance status-detection system that uses mmWave radar. This innovative solution simultaneously tracks multiple appliances without human activity interference by measuring their extremely tiny vibrations. To reduce interference from other moving objects, like people, we introduce a Vibration-Intensity Metric based on periodic signal characteristics. We present the Adaptive Weighted Minimum Distance Classifier (AWMDC) to counteract appliance vibration fluctuations. Finally, we develop a system using a common mmWave radar and carry out real-world experiments to evaluate HomeOSD’s performance. The detection accuracy is 95.58%, and the promising results demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of our proposed system.

We present a surface modification technique that turns CuNi foam films with a high contact angle and non-sticking property into a sticky surface. By decorating with mesh-like biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and adjusting the surface parameters, the surface exhibits water-retaining capability even when being held upside down. The wetting transition process of droplets falling on its surface were systematically studied using the finite element simulation method. It is found that the liquid filled the surface microstructure and curvy three-phase contact line. Moreover, we experimentally demonstrated that this surface can be further applied to capture underwater air bubbles.

The simultaneous increase in strength and plasticity of aluminum and its alloys at cryogenic temperatures has been shown in previous research, but the deformation mechanism was still unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to reveal the relationship between slip behavior and mechanical response at low temperatures. A quasi-in situ scanning electron microscope was used to observe the evolution of slip bands in the selected aluminum single crystals with two typical orientations at 25 °C, −100 °C, and −180 °C. The results showed that irrespective of orientation, the density of the slip plane was increased with the decline in temperature, which inhibited slip localization and significantly improved plasticity and work hardening. In detail, at RT, the slip bands were widening until the micro-cracks were generated, causing early failure during deformation. When the temperature was decreased to −180 °C, the slip plane density was increased, and the deformation was more homogenous. Moreover, the slip mode was influenced by orientation and temperature. In particular, a single slip system was activated in the sample with the [112] orientation at all the temperatures investigated. Multiple slip systems were found to activate at 25 °C and −100 °C, and only the primary slip system was activated in the sample with [114] orientation at −180 °C. These findings deepen the understanding of slip behavior at cryogenic temperatures, providing new insights into the deformation mechanism of aluminum and its alloys.

In this paper, to improve the operational service capability and attractiveness of the flex-route transit system, the real dynamic interaction scenario between passenger travel choice preference and system operation scheme in the post-pandemic era is described and quantified. The key technologies, operation mode, system framework, and interactive events required for dynamic interactive scheduling and route planning of flex-route transit are summarized. According to different choice preferences, the corresponding dynamic interaction scheduling strategies and route mixed integer programming model are proposed. An optimization scheme to improve the service capability of the system is introduced and analyzed. The computational results based on real-world cases show that the proposed strategy can better handle the relationship between requirements of transit system operation and requests of passengers without increasing operating costs, significantly improving the service performance of flex-route transit and the choice rate of passengers. We also find that the introduction of optimization schemes and the adjustment of passenger fares constitute a win-win strategy that benefits both passengers and transit operators.

This article provides a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art techniques for detecting and diagnosing stator winding inter-turn short faults (ITSFs) in permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) for electric vehicles (EVs). The review focuses on the following three main categories of diagnostic approaches: motor model-based, signal processing-based, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based fault detection and diagnosis methods. Motor model-based methods utilize motor state estimation and motor parameter estimation as the primary strategies for ITSF diagnosis. Signal processing-based techniques extract fault signatures from motor measured data across time, frequency, or time-frequency domains. In contrast, AI-based methods automatically extract higher-order fault signatures from large volumes of preprocessed data, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of fault diagnosis. The strengths and limitations of each approach are thoroughly examined, providing valuable insights into the advancements in ITSF detection and diagnosis techniques for PMSMs in EV applications. The emphasis is placed on the application of signal processing methods and deep learning techniques in the diagnosis of ITSF in PMSMs in EV applications.

Two novel dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory peptides (YPF and LLLP) were discovered from goat milk protein by peptidomics, in silico analysis, and in vitro assessment. A total of 698 peptides (50 = 368.54 ± 12.97 μM and 213.99 ± 0.64 μM) and in situ (IC50 = 159.46 ± 17.40 μM and 154.96 ± 8.41 μM) DPP-IV inhibitory capacities, and their inhibitory mechanisms were further explored by molecular docking. Our study showed that the formation of strong non-bonding interactions with the core residues from the pocket of DPP-IV (such as ARG358, PHE357, GLU205, TYR662, TYR547, and TYR666) might primarily account for the DPP-IV inhibitory activity of two identified peptides. Overall, the two novel DPP-IV inhibitory peptides rapidly identified in this study can be used as functional food ingredients for the control of diabetes.

The nasal microenvironment plays a crucial role in the transmission, modulation, and clinical progression of COVID-19; however, the immune responses at the site of viral entry remain poorly understood. We deciphered the link between nasopharyngeal (NP) immune and inflammatory response that triggers cytokine/chemokine storms in the nasal route of COVID-19-positive patients. We used RT-PCR, multiplex ELISA, flow cytometry, and LC-MS/MS to decipher nasopharyngeal immune perturbations associated with severe COVID-19. In addition, we performed in vitro assays using cultured human monocytes-derived macrophages trained both in the presence and absence of SARS-CoV-2 trimeric spike protein(s) and co-cultured with and without autologous human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (hPBMCs)/total T-cells/CD8 T-cells. In vitro immune perturbations were examined by flow cytometry and LC-MS/MS assays. Our findings confirm that macrophages orchestrate NP immune inflammatory responses and highlight the cytokine/chemokine storms associated with the increased CD8+T-cells along with Tregs, Th1, and Th17.1 T-helper cells. We observed a correlation between in vitro and nasal findings that trained macrophages, profoundly M2c, differentially promote the inflammatory surfactome on CD8 T-cells, including ITGAM, LGALS3, CD38, TKT, LRPAP1, and SSBP1. The findings of this study conclude that inflammatory lymphocyte perturbations within the nasopharynx of COVID-19 patients may enforce immune homeostasis during SARS-CoV-2-infection and contribute to COVID-19 pathology. This study explored the therapeutic target proteins that could facilitate the development of new medications, which could allow for immediate treatment of possible emerging viral infections.

The continuous emergence of new variants of concern for SARS-CoV-2 has created a challenge for existing therapies. To address this, we developed a series of single-stranded DNA aptamers that not only bind specifically to the trimer S protein of SARS-CoV-2 but also block the interaction between the trimer S protein and ACE2 receptors. The systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) was performed to select the aptamers for SARS-CoV-2 trimer S protein. ELISA-based assay and flow cytometry were performed to test the apatmers’ binding and inhibition of trimer S protein in vitro. Binding affinity was measured using surface plasmon resonance. Significance was determined in Prism 9.0 using the one-way ANOVA test (Dunnett’s multiple comparisons test) or two-way ANOVA test (Tukey’s multiple comparisons test) for comparisons. The p values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. After 12 rounds of SELEX, eight highly enriched aptamers were able to bind to the trimer S protein of the SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan original strain as well as the trimer S proteins of the Delta, Delta plus, Alpha, Lambda, Mu, and Omicron variants, with affinities in the nM range, while also inhibiting their interaction with ACE2 receptors in Vero E6 cells. Modifications to our best aptamer were made by adding forward and reverse primer sequences and truncation. The modified aptamers AYA2012004_L and AYA2012004_L-M1 showed up to 70% inhibition of the binding of virus-like particles (VLPs) expressing S protein to the ACE2 receptor expressed in HEK293T cells. Our findings imply that the selected aptamers can prevent SARS-CoV-2 from entering host cells and hence suppress the viral infection. In addition, the findings suggest that the selected aptamers might be an innovative therapy for the treatment of COVID-19.

This paper investigates the effect of anisotropic resolution on the image textural features of pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of a murine glioma model using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MR images acquired with an isotropic resolution at 7T with pre-contrast T1 mapping. The PK parameter maps of whole tumors at isotropic resolution were generated using the two-compartment exchange model combined with the three-site-two-exchange model. The textural features of these isotropic images were compared with those of simulated, thick-slice, anisotropic images to assess the influence of anisotropic voxel resolution on the textural features of tumors. The isotropic images and parameter maps captured distributions of high pixel intensity that were absent in the corresponding anisotropic images with thick slices. A significant difference was observed in 33% of the histogram and textural features extracted from anisotropic images and parameter maps, compared to those extracted from corresponding isotropic images. Anisotropic images in different orthogonal orientations demonstrated 42.1% of the histogram and textural features to be significantly different from those of isotropic images. This study demonstrates that the anisotropy of voxel resolution needs to be carefully considered when comparing the textual features of tumor PK parameters and contrast-enhanced images.

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) play central roles in the growth and development of vertebrates. Blotched snakehead (Channa maculata), an economically significant fish, exhibits obvious sexual dimorphism and achieves sexual maturity in one year. However, the role of IGFs in C. maculata remains unknown. Three IGF genes were identified in C. maculata, designated as CmIGF1-1, CmIGF1-2, and CmIGF2. The cDNA sequences of these genes are 1184, 655, and 695 bp, encoding putative proteins of 168, 131, and 215 amino acids, respectively, and all three proteins contain a conserved IGF domain. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) revealed the predominant expression of CmIGFs in the liver of adult fish, with higher expression levels observed in males. Notably, CmIGF1-1, CmIGF1-2, and CmIGF2 displayed analogous expression profiles in the liver across various developmental stages, peaking at 365 days after hatching (dah). Subsequently, 600 individuals at 75 dah, at an early developmental stage, were randomly divided equally into six groups and reared in aerated 2 m × 2 m × 2 m cement ponds at 26.0 ± 1.0 °C. Following a one-week acclimatization period, fish without observed abnormalities were intraperitoneally injected with either 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2) or 17α-methyltestosterone (MT) at a dose of 10 μg/g body weight. Three groups underwent short-term hormone treatment, and the remaining three groups underwent long-term hormone treatment, which included five injections at two-week intervals over ten weeks. The analysis of CmIGFs expression levels in the liver under different hormone treatments revealed that EE2 suppressed the expression of CmIGF1-1 and CmIGF1-2 while promoting CmIGF2 expression. In females, MT up-regulated the expression of CmIGF1-1 and CmIGF2 in a time-dependent manner, but consistently inhibited CmIGF2 expression. In males, MT promoted the expression of CmIGFs in a time-dependent manner, reaching peak levels for CmIGF1-1, CmIGF1-2, and CmIGF2 after 8, 10, and 2 weeks of injection, respectively. Additionally, CmIGF1 and CmIGF2 might exhibit a complementary relationship, with a compensatory increase in CmIGF2 expression in response to low CmIGF1 concentration. These findings highlight the potential key role of IGFs upon growth and their regulation by sex steroid hormones in C. maculata, providing a crucial foundation for future research aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the growth dimorphism between female and male blotched snakeheads.

International terrestrial reference frame (ITRF) input data, generated by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), and Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning integrated by satellite (DORIS) combination centers (CCs), are considered to be relatively high-quality and accurate solutions. Every few years, these input data are submitted to the three ITRS combination centers, namely Institut Géographique National (IGN), Deutsches Geodätisches Forschungsinstitut at the Technische Universität München (DGFI-TUM), and Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), to establish a multi-technique combined terrestrial reference frame (TRF). Generally, these solutions have undergone three rounds of outlier removal: the first at the technique analysis centers during solution generations and the second during the technique-specific combination by the CCs; ITRS CCs then perform a third round of outlier removal and preprocessing during the multi-technique combination of TRFs. However, since the primary objective of CCs is to release the final TRF product, they do not emphasize the publication of analytical preprocessing results, such as the outlier rejection rate. In this paper, our specific focus is on assessing the precision improvement of ITRF input data from 2014 to 2020, which includes evaluating the accuracy of coordinates, the datum accuracy, and the precision of the polar motions, for all four techniques. To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, we independently propose a TRF stacking approach to establish single technical reference frameworks, using software developed by us that is different from the ITRF generation. As a result, roughly 0.5% or less of the SLR observations are identified as outliers, while the ratio of DORIS, GNSS, and VLBI observations are below 1%, around 2%, and ranging from 1% to 1.2%, respectively. It is shown that the consistency between the SLR scale and ITRF has improved, increasing from around −5 mm in ITRF2014 datasets to approximately −1 mm in ITRF2020 datasets. The scale velocity derived from fitting the VLBI scale parameter series with all epochs in ITRF2020 datasets differs by approximately 0.21 mm/year from the velocity obtained by fitting the data up to 2013.75 because of the scale drift of VLBI around 2013. The decreasing standard deviations of the polar motion parameter (XPO, YPO) offsets between Stacking TRFs and 14C04 (20C04) indicate an improvement in the precision of polar motion observations for all four techniques. From the perspective of the weighted root mean square (WRMS) in station coordinates, since the inception of the technique, the station coordinate WRMS of DORIS decreased from 30 mm to 5 mm for X and Y components, and 25 mm to 5 mm for the Z component; SLR WRMS decreased from 20 mm to better than 10 mm (X, Y and Z); GNSS WRMS decreased from 4 mm to 1.5 mm (X and Y) and 5 mm to 2 mm (Z); while VLBI showed no significant change.

Recent strides in immunotherapy have illuminated the crucial role of CTLA-4 and PD-1/PD-L1 pathways in contemporary oncology, presenting both promises and challenges in response rates and adverse effects. This study employs a computational biology tool (in silico approach) to craft aptamers capable of binding to dual receptors, namely, inhibitory CTLA4 and NKG2A, thereby unleashing both T and NK cells and enhancing CD8+ T and NK cell functions for tumor cell lysis. Computational analysis highlighted AYA22T-R2-13 with HADDOCK scores of −78.2 ± 10.2 (with CTLA4), −60.0 ± 4.2 (with NKG2A), and −77.5 ± 5.6 (with CD94/NKG2A). Confirmation of aptamer binding to targeted proteins was attained via ELISA and flow cytometry methods. In vitro biological functionality was assessed using lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) cytotoxicity assay. Direct and competitive assays using ELISA and flow cytometry demonstrated the selective binding of AYA22T-R2-13 to CTLA4 and NKG2A proteins, as well as to the cell surface receptors of IL-2-stimulated T cells and NK cells. This binding was inhibited in the presence of competition from CTLA4 or NKG2A proteins. Remarkably, the blockade of CTLA4 or NKG2A by AYA22T-R2-13 augmented human CD8 T cell- and NK cell-mediated tumor cell lysis in vitro. Our findings highlight the precise binding specificity of AYA22T-R2-13 for CTLA4-B7-1/B7-2 (CD80/CD86) or CD94/NKG2A-HLA-E interactions, positioning it as a valuable tool for immune checkpoint blockade aptamer research in murine tumor models. These in vitro studies establish a promising foundation for further enhancing binding capacity and establishing efficacy and safety in animal models. Consequently, our results underscore the potential of AYA22T-R2-13 in cancer immunotherapy, offering high specificity, low toxicity, and the potential for cost-effective production.

Ischemic stroke is associated with a high mortality rate, and effective treatment strategies are currently lacking. In this study, we aimed to develop a novel nano delivery system to treat ischemic stroke via intranasal administration. A three-factor Box–Behnken experimental design was used to optimize the formulation of liposomes co-loaded with Panax notoginseng saponins (PNSs) and Ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) (Lip-Rg3/PNS). Macrophage membranes were coated onto the surface of the optimized liposomes to target the ischemic site of the brain. The double-loaded liposomes disguised by macrophage membranes (MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS) were spherical, in a “shell–core” structure, with encapsulation rates of 81.41% (PNS) and 93.81% (Rg3), and showed good stability. In vitro, MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS was taken up by brain endothelial cells via the clathrin-dependent endocytosis and micropinocytosis pathways. Network pharmacology experiments predicted that MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS could regulate multiple signaling pathways and treat ischemic stroke by reducing apoptosis and inflammatory responses. After 14 days of treatment with MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS, the survival rate, weight, and neurological score of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats significantly improved. The hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and TUNEL staining results showed that MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS can reduce neuronal apoptosis and inflammatory cell infiltration and protect the ischemic brain. In vivo biological experiments have shown that free Rg3, PNS, and MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS can alleviate inflammation and apoptosis, especially MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS, indicating that biomimetic liposomes can improve the therapeutic effects of drugs. Overall, MM-Lip-Rg3/PNS is a potential biomimetic nano targeted formulation for ischemic stroke therapy.

Cynomorium songaricum Rupr. (CSR) belongs to the family Cynomoriaceae. It is a perennial succulent parasitic herb with a reddish-brown coloration, predominantly submerged in sand and lacking chlorophyll. Traditionally, it has been used in ethnic medicine to treat various diseases, such as gastric ulcers, indigestion, bowel movements, and improving sexual function. To comprehensively collect CSR data, extensive literature searches were conducted using medical, ecological, and scientific databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). This article summarizes and categorizes research on the uses, phytochemical characteristics, pharmacological activities, and toxicity of ethnic medicine, with the aim of establishing a solid foundation and proposing new avenues for exploring and developing potential applications of CSR. So far, a total of 98 compounds have been isolated and identified from CSR, including flavonoids, terpenes, steroids, and other compounds. It is worth noting that flavonoids and polysaccharides have significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, these compounds also show good application prospects in anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-fatigue, anti-diabetes, and other aspects. Although extensive progress has been made in the basic research of CSR, further research is still needed to enhance the understanding of its mechanism of action and explore more unknown compounds. Our review indicates that CSR has broad prospects and deserves further research.

The design and analysis of jet pipe servovalves are mostly based on linear models. However, there are some nonlinear factors in this kind of electromechanical–hydraulic structure. The article deduces a linear rotation equation for the armature assembly and a linear flow equation for the control cavity. With the consideration of nonlinear hydraulic reaction forces in the second stage, the nonlinear dynamic equation of the main spool in an ideal jet pipe servovalve is derived. Based on the MATLAB (R2016a) software, the nonlinear model of a certain type of jet pipe servovalve is numerically investigated. The equilibrium points of the nonlinear system are calculated, the phase portraits are plotted, and the Hopf bifurcations caused by the flow-pressure coefficient as the control parameter and the period-doubling bifurcations caused by the variation of the input signal are analyzed. The vibration frequency of the time-domain response of the fifth-order system with a cosine signal as input is 242 Hz, which is similar to the experimental value of 233 Hz. The relative error between the two is 3.9%, verifying the validity of the nonlinear system model.

This paper proposes a quasi-dense feature matching algorithm that combines image semantic segmentation and local feature enhancement networks to address the problem of the poor matching of image features because of complex distortions, considerable occlusions, and a lack of texture on large oblique stereo images. First, a small amount of typical complex scene data are used to train the VGG16-UNet, followed by completing the semantic segmentation of multiplanar scenes across large oblique images. Subsequently, the prediction results of the segmentation are subjected to local adaptive optimization to obtain high-precision semantic segmentation results for each planar scene. Afterward, the LoFTR (Local Feature Matching with Transformers) strategy is used for scene matching, enabling enhanced matching for regions with poor local texture in the corresponding planes. The proposed method was tested on low-altitude large baseline stereo images of complex scenes and compared with five classical matching methods. Results reveal that the proposed method exhibits considerable advantages in terms of the number of correct matches, correct rate of matches, matching accuracy, and spatial distribution of corresponding points. Moreover, it is well-suitable for quasi-dense matching tasks of large baseline stereo images in complex scenes with considerable viewpoint variations.

Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a single-stranded DNA virus that can cause typical hemorrhagic enteritis, and it is one of the common canine lethal viruses. In previous studies, we screened the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s drug library and identified nitazoxanide (NTZ), which has anti-CPV capabilities. To investigate the potential antiviral mechanisms, we first reconfirmed the inhibitory effect of NTZ on the CPV by inoculating with different doses and treating for different lengths of time. Then, the differences in the transcription levels between the 0.1%-DMSO-treated virus group and the NTZ-treated virus group were detected using RNA-seq, and a total of 758 differential expression genes (DEGs) were finally identified. Further Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses of the DEGs revealed that these genes are involved in a variety of biological processes and/or signaling pathways, such as cell cycle, mitosis and cell proliferation and differentiation. A protein–protein interaction (PPI) analysis further identified hub genes associated with cell cycle and division among the DEGs. In addition, the expression levels of some of the enriched genes were detected, which were consistent with the high-throughput sequencing results. Moreover, when the cell cycle was regulated with cell cycle checkpoint kinase 1 (Chk1) inhibitor MK-8776 or Prexasertib HCl, both inhibitors inhibited the CPV. In summary, the transcriptome differential analysis results presented in this paper lay the foundation for further research on the molecular mechanism and potential targets of NTZ anti-CPV.

Aurora kinase B (AURKB) overexpression promotes tumor initiation and development by participating in the cell cycle. In this study, we focused on the mechanism of AURKB in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression and on AURKB’s value as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in HCC. We used data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) to analyze AURKB expression in HCC. We found that the expression levels of AURKB in HCC samples were higher than those in the corresponding control group. R packages were used to analyze RNA sequencing data to identify AURKB-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and these genes were found to be significantly enriched during the cell cycle. The biological function of AURKB was verified, and the results showed that cell proliferation was slowed down and cells were arrested in the G2/M phase when AURKB was knocked down. AURKB overexpression resulted in significant differences in clinical symptoms, such as the clinical T stage and pathological stage. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, Cox regression analysis, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis suggested that AURKB overexpression has good diagnostic and prognostic potential in HCC. Therefore, AURKB may be used as a potential target for the diagnosis and cure of HCC.

The nerve injury-induced protein 1 (NINJ1) and NINJ2 constitute a family of homophilic adhesion molecules and are involved in nerve regeneration. Previously, we showed that NINJ1 and p53 are mutually regulated and the NINJ1-p53 loop plays a critical role in p53-dependent tumor suppression. However, the biology of NINJ2 has not been well-explored. By using multiple in vitro cell lines and genetically engineered mouse embryo fibroblasts (MEFs), we showed that NINJ2 is induced by DNA damage in a p53-dependent manner. Moreover, we found that the loss of NINJ2 promotes p53 expression via mRNA translation and leads to growth suppression in wild-type p53-expressing MCF7 and Molt4 cells and premature senescence in MEFs in a wild-type p53-dependent manner. Interestingly, NINJ2 also regulates mutant p53 expression, and the loss of NINJ2 promotes cell growth and migration in mutant p53-expressing MIA-PaCa2 cells. Together, these data indicate that the mutual regulation between NINJ2 and p53 represents a negative feedback loop, and the NINJ2-p53 loop has opposing functions in wild-type p53-dependent growth suppression and mutant p53-dependent growth promotion.

With the advancement of information technology, energy consumption prediction models are widely used for various types of buildings (office, residential, and commercial buildings) as guidance during the design and management stages. This article will establish an efficient building energy consumption prediction model for hotel buildings. To achieve this, we collected 78 architectural drawings of high-rise hotel buildings to establish 6 kinds of typical energy consumption models in 2 standard floor layouts and 3 public area levels. Then, on this basis, we used the total energy consumption calculated by EnergyPlus as an indicator to conduct sensitivity analysis on geometric feature parameters, internal heat source parameters, and thermal parameters, respectively. Finally, we generated a building database with 5000 samples through the R programming language to calculate and verify the energy consumption. As a result, it was proved that the energy consumption of hotel buildings can be predicted accurately, and that quadratic polynomial regression, with the best accuracy and stability, is the most suitable optimization model for hotel energy consumption prediction in Guangzhou. These conclusions provide a good theoretical basis for the analysis, prediction, and optimization of energy consumption in high-rise hotel buildings in the future.

DNA methylation and chromatin accessibility play important roles in gene expression, but their function in subgenome expression dominance remains largely unknown. We conducted comprehensive analyses of the transcriptome, DNA methylation, and chromatin accessibility in liver and muscle tissues of allotetraploid common carp, aiming to reveal the function of epigenetic modifications in subgenome expression dominance. A noteworthy overlap in differential expressed genes (DEGs) as well as their functions was observed across the two subgenomes. In the promoter and gene body, the DNA methylation level of the B subgenome was significantly different than that of the A subgenome. Nevertheless, differences in DNA methylation did not align with changes in homoeologous biased expression across liver and muscle tissues. Moreover, the B subgenome exhibited a higher prevalence of open chromatin regions and greater chromatin accessibility, in comparison to the A subgenome. The expression levels of genes located proximally to open chromatin regions were significantly higher than others. Genes with higher chromatin accessibility in the B subgenome exhibited significantly elevated expression levels compared to the A subgenome. Contrastingly, genes without accessibility exhibited similar expression levels in both subgenomes. This study contributes to understanding the regulation of subgenome expression dominance in allotetraploid common carp.

Point cloud densification is essential for understanding the 3D environment. It provides crucial structural and semantic information for downstream tasks such as 3D object detection and tracking. However, existing registration-based methods struggle with dynamic targets due to the incompleteness and deformation of point clouds. To address this challenge, we propose a Kalman-based scene flow estimation method for point cloud densification and 3D object detection in dynamic scenes. Our method effectively tackles the issue of localization errors in scene flow estimation and enhances the accuracy and precision of shape completion. Specifically, we introduce a Kalman filter to correct the dynamic target’s position while estimating long sequence scene flow. This approach helps eliminate the cumulative localization error during the scene flow estimation process. Extended experiments on the KITTI 3D tracking dataset demonstrate that our method significantly improves the performance of LiDAR-only detectors, achieving superior results compared to the baselines.

Tea plants have to adapt to frequently challenging environments due to their sessile lifestyle and perennial evergreen nature. Jasmonates regulate not only tea plants’ responses to biotic stresses, including herbivore attack and pathogen infection, but also tolerance to abiotic stresses, such as extreme weather conditions and osmotic stress. In this review, we summarize recent progress about jasmonaic acid (JA) biosynthesis and signaling pathways, as well as the underlying mechanisms mediated by jasmontes in tea plants in responses to biotic stresses and abiotic stresses. This review provides a reference for future research on the JA signaling pathway in terms of its regulation against various stresses of tea plants. Due to the lack of a genetic transformation system, the JA pathway of tea plants is still in the preliminary stages. It is necessary to perform further efforts to identify new components involved in the JA regulatory pathway through the combination of genetic and biochemical methods.

Tea is the second most popular nonalcoholic beverage consumed in the world, made from the buds and young leaves of the tea plants (Camellia sinensis). Tea trees, perennial evergreen plants, contain abundant specialized metabolites and suffer from severe herbivore and pathogen attacks in nature. Thus, there has been considerable attention focusing on investigating the precise function of specialized metabolites in plant resistance against pests and diseases. In this review, firstly, the responses of specialized metabolites (including phytohormones, volatile compounds, flavonoids, caffeine, and L-theanine) to different attacks by pests and pathogens were compared. Secondly, research progress on the defensive functions and action modes of specialized metabolites, along with the intrinsic molecular mechanisms in tea plants, was summarized. Finally, the critical questions about specialized metabolites were proposed for better future research on phytohormone-dependent biosynthesis, the characteristics of defense responses to different stresses, and molecular mechanisms. This review provides an update on the biological functions of specialized metabolites of tea plants in defense against two pests and two pathogens.

Film-mulched rock outcrops are a proven way to effectively prevent preferential flow at the rock–soil interface in rocky karst areas, but the impact on rainwater redistribution and maize growth in farmland areas has never been studied. This paper used the dye tracer method at a sprinkling intensity of 1 mm min−1 to study the rainwater redistribution in soils for three different treatments: away from rock (AR), close to rock (CR), and close to film-mulched rock (CFMR). The growth situation of maize (Zea mays L.) according to the different treatments was also studied. It was shown in the study that the rainwater gathered by rock outcrops was mainly confined only within a narrow flow path at the rock–soil interface in the CR treatment, with a preferential flow fraction of 35.78~55.54% and dyeing depth of 15.37~20.00 cm across the three dye application amounts (850 mL, 1700 mL, and 3400 mL) in contrast to the uniform distribution of the rainwater in the soil of the AR treatment, with a preferential flow fraction of 12.31~37.15% and dyeing depth of 6.93~14.00 cm. Interestingly, in the CFMR treatment, there was no preferential flow at the rock–soil interface benefiting from the film’s blocking action, and the redistribution of rainwater was mainly based on the matrix flow, with a preferential flow fraction of 24.93~39.62% and dyeing depth of 10.27~18.00 cm, indicating that the film-mulched rock outcrops improved the rock’s output capability for gathering rainwater into the surrounding soil. In addition, film-mulched rock outcrops can promote the growth of maize, as indicated by the results for plant height, stem diameter, maximum leaf area, SPAD value, and floral development of maize, which increased in order from AR, CR, to CFMR. Our study suggests that film-mulched rock outcrops have important implications for the efficient use of rainwater and the growth of crops in rocky karst areas, as well as in regions with similar geological characteristics.

Verpa spp. are potentially important economic fungi within Morchellaceae. However, fundamental research on their mating systems, the key aspects of their life cycle, remains scarce. Fungal sexual reproduction is chiefly governed by mating-type genes, where the configuration of these genes plays a pivotal role in facilitating the reproductive process. For this study, de novo assembly methodologies based on genomic data from Verpa spp. were employed to extract precise information on the mating-type genes, which were then precisely identified in silico and by amplifying their single-ascospore populations using MAT-specific primers. The results suggest that the MAT loci of the three tested strains of V. bohemica encompassed both the MAT1-1-1 and MAT1-2-1 genes, implying homothallism. On the other hand, amongst the three V. conica isolates, only the MAT1-1-1 or MAT1-2-1 genes were present in their MAT loci, suggesting that V. conica is heterothallic. Moreover, bioinformatic analysis reveals that the three tested V. bohemica strains and one V. conica No. 21110 strain include a MAT1-1-10 gene in their MAT loci, while the other two V. conica strains contained MAT1-1-11, exhibiting high amino acid identities with those from corresponding Morchella species. In addition, MEME analysis shows that a total of 17 conserved protein motifs are present among the MAT1-1-10 encoded protein, while the MAT1-1-11 protein contained 10. Finally, the mating type genes were successfully amplified in corresponding single-ascospore populations of V. bohemica and V. conica, further confirming their life-cycle type. This is the first report on the mating-type genes and mating systems of Verpa spp., and the presented results are expected to benefit further exploitation of these potentially important economic fungi.

In human and other organisms’ perception, olfaction plays a vital role, and biomimetic olfaction models offer a pathway for studying olfaction. The most optimal existing biomimetic olfaction model is the KIII model proposed by Professor Freeman; however, it still exhibits certain limitations. This study aims to address these limitations: In the feature extraction stage, it introduces adaptive histogram equalization, Gaussian filtering, and discrete cosine transform methods, effectively enhancing and extracting high-quality image features, thereby bolstering the model’s recognition capabilities. To tackle the computational cost issue associated with solving the numerical solutions of neuronal dynamics equations in the KIII model, it replaces the original method with the faster Euler method, reducing time expenses while maintaining good recognition results. In the decision-making stage, several different dissimilarity metrics are compared, and the results indicate that the Spearman correlation coefficient performs best in this context. The improved KIII model is applied to a new domain of traffic sign recognition, demonstrating that it outperforms the baseline KIII model and exhibits certain advantages compared to other models.

As the most widely used description code in digital circuits and system on chip (SoC), the security of register transfer level (RTL) code is extremely critical. Code obfuscation is a typical method to ensure the security of RTL code, but popular obfuscation methods are not fully applicable to RTL code. In addition, some RTL code obfuscation tools also have issues with incomplete functionality or obfuscation errors. In view of the above issues, this paper studies the RTL code security problem represented by obfuscation. Based on the extensible markup language (XML) syntax tree generated by parsing RTL code, a complete RTL code refactoring model is constructed, and four targeted RTL code obfuscation methods are proposed, namely: Layout obfuscation; Parameter obfuscation; Critical path obfuscation; Code increment obfuscation. Utilizing the developed obfuscation tool, an assessment of the performance and effectiveness of the obfuscation methods is conducted, alongside testing the equivalence between the obfuscated code and the source code. The experimental results show that the proposed obfuscation methods have higher practicability and reliability, and have the characteristics of high obfuscation coverage that can be stable at over 98% and preservation of compiler indicative Comments.

Epigenetic modifications are critical in precisely regulating gene expression. The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is an economically important fish species, and females exhibit faster growth rates than males. However, the studies related to epigenetic modifications in the common carp gonads are limited. In this study, we conducted the Assay for Transposase Accessible Chromatin sequencing (ATAC-seq) and Bisulfite sequencing (BS-seq) to explore the roles of epigenetic modifications in the common carp gonads. We identified 84,207 more accessible regions and 77,922 less accessible regions in ovaries compared to testes, and some sex-biased genes showed differential chromatin accessibility in their promoter regions, such as sox9a and zp3. Motif enrichment analysis showed that transcription factors (TFs) associated with embryonic development and cell proliferation were heavily enriched in ovaries, and the TFs Foxl2 and SF1 were only identified in ovaries. We also analyzed the possible regulations between chromatin accessibility and gene expression. By BS-seq, we identified 2087 promoter differentially methylated genes (promoter-DMGs) and 5264 gene body differentially methylated genes (genebody-DMGs) in CG contexts. These genebody-DMGs were significantly enriched in the Wnt signaling pathway, TGF-beta signaling pathway, and GnRH signaling pathway, indicating that methylation in gene body regions could play an essential role in sex maintenance, just like methylation in promoter regions. Combined with transcriptomes, we revealed that the expression of dmrtb1-like, spag6, and fels was negatively correlated with their methylation levels in promoter regions. Our study on the epigenetic modifications of gonads contributes to elucidating the molecular mechanism of sex differentiation and sex maintenance in the common carp.

Jinhua lean ham (LH), a dry-cured ham made from the defatted hind legs of pigs, has become increasingly popular among consumers with health concerns. However, the influence of fat removal on the quality of Jinhua ham is still not fully understood. Therefore, a label-free proteomics strategy was used to explore the protein differential profile between Jinhua fatty ham (FH) and lean ham (LH). Results showed that 179 differential proteins (DPs) were detected, including 82 up-regulated and 97 down-regulated DPs in LH vs. FH, among which actin, myosin, tropomyosin, aspartate aminotransferase, pyruvate carboxylase, and glucose-6-phosphate isomerase were considered the key DPs. GO analysis suggested that DPs were mainly involved in binding, catalytic activity, cellular process, and metabolic process, among which catalytic activity was significantly up-regulated in LH. Moreover, the main KEGG-enriched pathways of FH focused on glycogen metabolism, mainly including the TCA cycle, pyruvate metabolism, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis. However, amino acid metabolism and oxidative phosphorylation were the main metabolic pathways in LH. From the protein differentiation perspective, fat removal significantly promoted protein degradation, amino acid metabolism, and the oxidative phosphorylation process. These findings could help us to understand the effects of fat removal on the nutritional metabolism of Jinhua hams and provide theoretical supports for developing healthier low-fat meat products.

Potassium application can effectively mitigate the effects of drought stress on plant growth, and few studies have reported its application to the medicinal plant Salvia miltiorrhiza (S. miltiorrhiza). Four experimental treatments were used, including a control (Z1K0), non-drought potassium application (Z1K3), drought treatments (Z2K0), and drought-stress potassium application (Z2K3). The findings revealed that, in contrast to Z2K0, Z2K3 promoted the absorption of potassium in S. miltiorrhiza, elicited the aggregation of osmoregulatory compounds such as soluble protein and proline, and mitigated membrane impairment as a defense against the deleterious consequences of drought stress. Additionally, we extended our investigation to encompass comprehensive metabolomics analysis of the roots. Interestingly, subsequent root metabolomics analyses demonstrated that the drought application of potassium not only significantly reduced the amino acid content, but also increased the amount of terpenoids and phenolic acids in the roots. Nonetheless, the application of a particular amount of K under moderate drought conditions promoted the growth and yield of S. miltiorrhiza, but proved to be detrimental to its active ingredients. Indeed, the findings of this study offer valuable insights and recommendations for the application of potassium to mitigate the impact of drought stress in S. miltiorrhiza and other medicinal plants.
