Background: Diarrheal disease remains a significant public health issue, particularly affecting young children and older adults. Despite efforts to control and prevent these diseases, their incidence continues to be a global concern. Understanding the trends in diarrhea incidence and the factors influencing these trends is crucial for developing effective public health strategies. Objective: This study aimed to explore the temporal trends in diarrhea incidence and associated factors from 1990 to 2019 and to project the incidence for the period 2020–2040 at global, regional, and national levels. We aimed to identify key factors influencing these trends to inform future prevention and control strategies. Methods: The eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model was used to predict the incidence from 2020 to 2040 based on demographic, meteorological, water sanitation, and sanitation and hygiene indicators. SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) value was performed to explain the impact of variables in the model on the incidence. Estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) was calculated to assess the temporal trends of age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) from 1990 to 2019 and from 2020 to 2040. Results: Globally, both incident cases and ASIRs of diarrhea increased between 2010 and 2019. The incident cases are expected to rise from 2020 to 2040, while the ASIRs and incidence rates are predicted to slightly decrease. During the observed (1990–2019) and predicted (2020–2040) periods, adults aged 60 years and above exhibited an upward trend in incidence rate as age increased, while children aged < 5 years consistently had the highest incident cases. The SHAP framework was applied to explain the model predictions. We identified several risk factors associated with an increased incidence of diarrhea, including age over 60 years, yearly precipitation exceeding 3000 mm, temperature above 20 °C for both maximum and minimum values, and vapor pressure deficit over 1500 Pa. A decreased incidence rate was associated with relative humidity over 60%, wind speed over 4 m/s, and populations with above 80% using safely managed drinking water services and over 40% using safely managed sanitation services. Conclusions: Diarrheal diseases are still serious public health concerns, with predicted increases in the incident cases despite decreasing ASIRs globally. Children aged < 5 years remain highly susceptible to diarrheal diseases, yet the incidence rate in the older adults aged 60 plus years still warrants additional attention. Additionally, more targeted efforts to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation services are crucial for reducing the incidence of diarrheal diseases globally.

In current biomedical and environmental detection, multi-modal optical imaging technology is playing an increasingly important role. By utilizing information from dimensions such as spectra and polarization, it reflects the detailed characteristics and material properties of the targets. However, as detection system performance becomes more complex, issues such as aberrations introduced by multilayered lenses, signal attenuation, decreased polarization sensitivity, and latency can no longer be ignored. These factors directly affect the assessment of image details, influencing subsequent analyses. In this paper, we propose a method for designing and optimizing spectrum-splitting filters that considers the wavefront aberration and transmittance of the multi-modal optical imaging system. The method of optimizing coating phases to minimize scalar phase aberrations while maximizing system transmission leads to substantially improved imaging performance. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the method can improve the imaging performance. The proposed approach has potential applications in fields such as biomedical field, multi-spectral, remote sensing and microscopy.

The precise segmentation of Zanthoxylum bungeanum clusters is crucial for developing picking robots. An improved Mask R-CNN model was proposed in this study for the segmentation of Zanthoxylum bungeanum clusters in natural environments. Firstly, the Swin-Transformer network was introduced into the model’s backbone as the feature extraction network to enhance the model’s feature extraction capabilities. Then, the SK attention mechanism was utilized to fuse the detailed information into the mask branch from the low-level feature map of the feature pyramid network (FPN), aiming to supplement the image detail features. Finally, the distance intersection over union (DIOU) loss function was adopted to replace the original bounding box loss function of Mask R-CNN. The model was trained and tested based on a self-constructed Zanthoxylum bungeanum cluster dataset. Experiments showed that the improved Mask R-CNN model achieved 84.0% and 77.2% in detection mAP50box and segmentation mAP50mask, respectively, representing a 5.8% and 4.6% improvement over the baseline Mask R-CNN model. In comparison to conventional instance segmentation models, such as YOLACT, Mask Scoring R-CNN, and SOLOv2, the improved Mask R-CNN model also exhibited higher segmentation precision. This study can provide valuable technology support for the development of Zanthoxylum bungeanum picking robots.

The aim of this study was to determine the optimal SID Arg: Lys ratio for maximizing the reproductive performance, immunity and biochemical parameters of sows during gestation, the colostrum composition, and the performance of their offspring. A total of 174 multiparous sows were randomly allocated to five treatment groups varying in dietary SID Arg: Lys ratios (0.91, 1.02, 1.14, 1.25 and 1.38) through modification of the levels of Arg or alanine supplementation (the total level of nitrogen was the same in all treatments). The results showed that increasing the dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio increased the number of piglets born alive (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic). The number of stillborn piglets, the birth weight variation of born alive piglets, the birth interval (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic) and the number of mummies (p < 0.05, quadratic) reduced with increasing the dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio. Broken-line regression analysis indicated that the optimal SID Arg: Lys ratio requirement for gestating sows to maximize the number of piglets born alive was 1.25. The content of non-fat solid, total solid, protein, and energy in colostrum increased linearly and quadratically (p < 0.05) with increasing dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio. Additionally, when increasing the dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio, the concentration of IgA (p < 0.05, quadratic) and IgM (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic) of plasma increased at day 90 of gestation; IgG (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic) concentration increased at day 110 of gestation of sows. The dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio had an increasing effect (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic) on plasma insulin levels at day 90 of gestation. Furthermore, there were increases in plasma concentrations of nitric oxide and ornithine at day 110 of gestation, Arg at day 90 and 110 of gestation (p < 0.05, linear and quadratic) and total protein at day 110 of gestation (p < 0.05, linear) with increasing dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio. The results of our study indicated that increases in the dietary SID Arg: Lys ratio during gestation resulted in an increase in the number of piglets born alive, a decrease in birth intervals, and an improvement in immunity and colostrum composition. The optimal SID Arg: Lys ratio for gestating sows to maximize the number of piglets born alive was 1.25.

Ultrasound imaging is widely used in medical diagnostics due to its non-invasive and real-time capabilities. However, existing methods often overlook the benefits of fractional-order filters for denoising and dehazing. Thus, this work introduces an efficient multi-scale wavelet method for dehazing and denoising ultrasound images using a fractional-order filter, which integrates a guided filter, directional filter, fractional-order filter, and haze removal to the different resolution images generated by a multi-scale wavelet. In the directional filter stage, an eigen-analysis of each pixel is conducted to extract structural features, which are then classified into edges for targeted filtering. The guided filter subsequently reduces speckle noise in homogeneous anatomical regions. The fractional-order filter allows the algorithm to effectively denoise while improving edge definition, irrespective of the edge size. Haze removal can effectively eliminate the haze caused by attenuation. Our method achieved significant improvements, with PSNR reaching 31.25 and SSIM 0.905 on our ultrasound dataset, outperforming other methods. Additionally, on external datasets like McMaster and Kodak24, it achieved the highest PSNR (29.68, 28.62) and SSIM (0.858, 0.803). Clinical evaluations by four radiologists confirmed its superiority in liver and carotid artery images. Overall, our approach outperforms existing speckle reduction and structural preservation techniques, making it highly suitable for clinical ultrasound imaging.

Although an Automatic Identification System (AIS) can be used to monitor trajectories, it has become a reality for remote sensing satellite clusters to monitor maritime moving targets. The increasing demand for monitoring poses challenges for the construction of satellites, the monitoring capabilities of which urgently need to be evaluated. Conventional evaluation methods focus on the spatial characteristics of monitoring; however, the temporal characteristics and the target’s kinematic characteristics are neglected. In this study, an evaluation method that integrates the spatial and temporal characteristics of monitoring along with the target’s kinematic characteristics is proposed. Firstly, a target motion prediction model for calculating the transfer probability and a satellite observation information calculation model for obtaining observation strips and time windows are established. Secondly, an index system is established, including the target detection capability, observation coverage capability, proportion of empty window, dispersion of observation window, and deviation of observation window. Thirdly, a comprehensive evaluation is completed through combining the analytic hierarchy process and entropy weight method to obtain the monitoring capability score. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the monitoring capabilities of satellites for ship trajectories. The results show that the method is effective when the grid size is between 1.6 and 1.8 times the target size and the task duration is approximately twice the time interval between trajectory points. Furthermore, the method is proven to be usable in various environments.

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a natural polyphenol with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the exact role of it in regulating intestinal health under oxidative stress is not fully understood. This study aims to investigate the effects of dietary CGA supplementation on the intestinal health of weaned piglets under oxidative stress, and to explore its regulatory mechanism. Twenty-four piglets were randomly divided into two groups and fed either a basal diet (CON) or a basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg CGA (CGA). CGA reduced the diarrhea rate, increased the villus height in the jejunum, and decreased the crypt depth in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum of the weaned piglets (p < 0.05). Moreover, CGA increased the protein abundance of Claudin-1, Occludin, and zonula occludens (ZO)-1 in the jejunum and ileum (p < 0.05). In addition, CGA increased the mRNA expression of pBD2 in the jejunum, and pBD1 and pBD2 in the ileum (p < 0.05). The results of 16S rRNA sequencing showed that CGA altered the ileal microbiota composition and increased the relative abundance of Lactobacillus reuteri and Lactobacillus pontis (p < 0.05). Consistently, the findings suggested that the enhancement of the intestinal barrier in piglets was associated with increased concentrations of T-AOC, IL-22, and sIgA in the serum and T-AOC, T-SOD, and sIgA in the jejunum, as well as T-AOC and CAT in the ileum caused by CGA (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, CGA decreased the concentrations of MDA, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in the serum and jejunum and IL-1β and IL-6 in the ileum (p < 0.05). Importantly, this study found that CGA alleviated intestinal inflammation and oxidative stress in the piglets by inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway. These findings showed that CGA enhances the intestinal health of weaned piglets by inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB pathway and activating the Nrf2 pathway.

With the prohibition of antibiotics in animal feed, the livestock industry faces significant challenges, including increased morbidity and mortality rates and reduced farming efficiency. Developing green, natural, and safe antibiotic alternatives has become a research hotspot. This study evaluated the effects of octapeptin as a feed additive on growth performance, diarrhea incidence, serum biochemistry, serum immune factors, and gut microbiota of weaned piglets. Seventy-two weaned piglets were randomly assigned to three groups based on body weight and sex, with each group receiving different dietary treatments: a negative control group (CON, basal diet), a positive control group (MC, basal diet + 5 mg/kg Microcin C7), and an octapeptin supplement group (OP, basal diet + 40 mg/kg octapeptin). After 28 days of feeding experimental diets, the results demonstrated that supplementing the diet of weaned piglets with octapeptin significantly improved the feed conversion ratio compared to the control group (p < 0.05) over the entire experimental period. Furthermore, a reduction in diarrhea incidence was observed during the late nursery period (14–28 d), resulting in an overall improvement in diarrhea compared to the other two groups (p < 0.01). Serum biochemical analysis results revealed a trend towards decreased alanine aminotransferase level in the octapeptin group, with no significant differences in other indicators, suggesting potential improvements in liver function without causing liver damage. In addition, compared to the control group, octapeptin enhanced mucosal immunity by decreasing TNF-α level (p < 0.05). Fecal microbiota analysis results showed a significant increase in beneficial bacteria such as Collinsella and Olsenella in the octapeptin group compared to the other two groups (p < 0.05), indicating a positive impact on gut health. These findings supported the potential of octapeptin as an alternative to antibiotic growth promoters in weaned piglets’ diets.

The yellow-fleshed loquat is abundant in carotenoids, which determine the fruit’s color, provide vitamin A, and offer anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer health benefits. In this research, the impact of abscisic acid (ABA), a plant hormone, on carotenoid metabolism and flesh pigmentation in ripening loquat fruits was determined. Results revealed that ABA treatment enhanced the overall content of carotenoids in loquat fruit, including major components like β-cryptoxanthin, lutein, and β-carotene, linked to the upregulation of most genes in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. Furthermore, a transcription factor, EjWRKY6, whose expression was induced by ABA, was identified and was thought to play a role in ABA-induced carotenoid acceleration. Transient overexpression of EjWRKY6 in Nicotiana benthamiana and stable genetic transformation in Nicotiana tabacum with EjWRKY6 indicated that both carotenoid production and genes related to carotenoid biosynthesis could be upregulated in transgenic plants. A dual-luciferase assay proposed a probable transcriptional control between EjWRKY6 and promoters of genes associated with carotenoid production. To sum up, pre-harvest ABA application could lead to carotenoid biosynthesis in loquat fruit through the EjWRKY6-induced carotenoid biosynthesis pathway.

Blueberry fruits are rich in anthocyanins. There are 25 known anthocyanidins found in blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) until now. Anthocyanins found in blueberries have attracted considerable interest for their outstanding abilities as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, and neuroprotection compounds, as well as their potential for preventing cardiovascular diseases, protecting vision, and inhibiting cancer development. However, their application is constrained by issues related to instability and relatively low bioavailability. Thus, this review provides a detailed overview of categories, functions, stability, and bioavailability of blueberry anthocyanins and their practical applications. The available studies indicate that there is more potential for the industrial production of blueberry anthocyanins.

Ginkgo biloba is a famous economic tree. Ginkgo leaves have been utilized as raw materials for medicines and health products due to their rich active ingredient composition, especially flavonoids. Since the routine measurement of total flavones is time-consuming and destructive, rapid, non-destructive detection of total flavones in ginkgo leaves is of significant importance to producers and consumers. Hyperspectral imaging technology is a rapid and non-destructive technique for determining the total flavonoid content. In this study, we discuss five modeling methods, and three spectral preprocessing methods are discussed. Bayesian Ridge (BR) and multiplicative scatter correction (MCS) were selected as the best model and the best pretreatment method, respectively. The spectral prediction results based on the BR + MCS treatment were very accurate (RTest2 = 0.87; RMSETest = 1.03 mg/g), showing a high correlation with the analytical measurements. In addition, we also found that the more and deeper the leaf cracks, the higher the flavonoid content, which helps to evaluate leaf quality more quickly and easily. In short, hyperspectral imaging is an effective technique for rapid and accurate determination of total flavonoids in ginkgo leaves and has great potential for developing an online quality detection system for ginkgo leaves.

Discrepant sample processing remains a significant challenge within blood metabolomics research, introducing non-biological variation into the measured metabolome and biasing downstream results. Inconsistency during the pre-analytical phase can influence experimental processes, producing metabolome measurements that are non-representative of in vivo composition. To minimize variation, there is a need to create and adhere to standardized pre-analytical protocols for blood samples intended for use in metabolomics analyses. This will allow for reliable and reproducible findings within blood metabolomics research. In this review article, we provide an overview of the existing literature pertaining to pre-analytical factors that influence blood metabolite measurements. Pre-analytical factors including blood tube selection, pre- and post-processing time and temperature conditions, centrifugation conditions, freeze–thaw cycles, and long-term storage conditions are specifically discussed, with recommendations provided for best practices at each stage.

To address the requirement of functioning as a transmit/receive isolation device in terahertz transceiver systems, in this paper, we present two high−isolation multi−branch waveguide directional couplers operating at a center frequency of 510 GHz. One is a high−performance five−branch directional coupler, and the other is a new type of three−branch waveguide coupler with lower processing difficulty. Both couplers were fabricated using low−cost CNC milling technologies. The performance of these couplers was verified through measurement results, demonstrating high isolation at the center frequency.

Despite coverage of two doses of mumps-containing vaccines, mumps epidemics persist among children and young adults in China. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of mumps in Jiangsu Province, with a particular focus on breakthrough cases among high-incidence groups. Mumps cases reported in 2023 were systematically collected from the Infectious Disease Surveillance and Reporting System. A comprehensive descriptive epidemiological analysis was performed to elucidate the characteristics of the reported cases. A joinpoint regression (JPR) model was utilized to identify the temporal trends across various periods. Subsequently, immunization information for cases under 15 years of age was obtained through the Jiangsu Province Vaccination Integrated Service Management Information System to identify breakthrough cases and conduct exploratory analyses. A total of 4142 mumps cases were reported in Jiangsu Province in 2023, yielding an annual incidence rate of 4.86/100,000. A total of 81.75% of the cases were students and childcare children, and the gender ratio was 1.5:1 (male/female). The JPR model analysis of weekly reported cases identified five distinct trend segments (1st: 1–8, weekly percent change (WPC) = 26.67 *; 2nd: 9–28, WPC = 3.11 *; 3rd: 29–34, WPC = −5.31; 4th: 35–37, WPC = 15.48; 5th: 38–52, WPC = −4.06 *), and the gender subgroups demonstrated similar trends to the overall pattern. Notably, 89.14% (3692/4142) of the total cases were among individuals under 15 years, with 96.02% (3545/3692) having been vaccinated against mumps. The number of single-dose breakthrough cases (SdBCs) was approximately fourfold (2847/698) that of two-dose breakthrough cases (TdBCs). The main population composition of TdBCs was children aged 0–5 years old, and the classification was dominated by childcare children and scattered children. The median time interval between initial immunization and onset were shorter in TdBCs than in the SdBCs group, and the median time interval between the last immunization and onset was interestingly similarly shorter. However, these situations were interestingly reversed in 105 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases. Therefore, the current vaccination strategies have demonstrated tangible effectiveness in preventing and controlling mumps. However, the high incidence of breakthrough cases among high-risk pediatric populations indicates that mumps immunization strategies still deserve more attention and research for better herd protection.

The extensive outbreak of Sargassum horneri in China has not merely imposed a severe threat to the ecological environment and human life in coastal waters but also impeded the development of waterway transportation and the local economy. Consequently, we isolated polysaccharides from S. horneri, designated as SHP, and evaluated the antioxidant activity of SHP both in vitro and in vivo by investigating the effect of SHP on H2O2-induced African green monkey kidney cells (Vero cells) and zebrafish. The results demonstrated that SHP can enhance the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase in zebrafish. It also effectively inhibits micro malondialdehyde and ROS levels in Vero cells and zebrafish to mitigate the oxidative damage caused by H2O2, thereby achieving the protective effect of SHP on Vero cells and zebrafish. In conclusion, SHP holds the potential as a natural antioxidant. SHP can be contemplated for utilization as a natural antioxidant in the biomedical, cosmetic, and food industries, thereby alleviating the environmental stress caused by S. horneri and achieving resource utilization.

High-volume space structures are characterized by high combustible loads, rapid fire development, difficulty in firefighting, and potential building collapse risks, making early fire detection particularly crucial. The effectiveness of early fire detection technologies relies on their ability to adapt to the characteristics of smoke-dominant combustion products in the protected space. However, there is a lack of targeted research on the characteristics of the smoke generated during the early low-power stages of fires in high-volume spaces, which has not supported the development of early fire detection technologies for such environments. To address this, this paper presents an experimental study that, for the first time, collects data on fire smoke parameters such as temperature, velocity, concentration, and particle size at heights ranging from 6.5 m to 18.5 m using lightweight sensors. The study analyzes the characteristic and correlations of these parameters and their impact on early fire detection in high-volume spaces for the first time, presenting variation patterns in the plume velocity and particle size distribution of early fire smoke with height. It identifies three patterns of particle size distribution, contrasting with previous studies, and offers a qualitative explanation for these findings. This research enhances the understanding of early fire smoke signals in large spaces and offers valuable insights for developing more accurate and efficient fire detection strategies and technologies.

Flexible sensors can measure various stimuli owing to their exceptional flexibility, stretchability, and electrical properties. However, the integration of multiple stimuli into a single sensor for measurement is challenging. To address this issue, the sensor developed in this study utilizes the natural biopolymers sodium alginate and carboxymethyl cellulose to construct a dual interpenetrating network, This results in a flexible porous sponge that exhibits a dual-modal response to strain and magnetic stimulation. The dual-mode flexible sensor achieved a maximum tensile strength of 429 kPa and elongation at break of 24.7%. It also exhibited rapid response times and reliable stability under both strain and magnetic stimuli. The porous foam sensor is intended for use as a wearable electronic device for monitoring joint movements of the body. It provides a swift and stable sensing response to mechanical stimuli arising from joint activities, such as stretching, compression, and bending. Furthermore, the sensor generates opposing response signals to strain and magnetic stimulation, enabling real-time decoupling of different stimuli. This study employed a simple and environmentally friendly manufacturing method for the dual-modal flexible sensor. Because of its remarkable performance, it has significant potential for application in smart wearable electronics and artificial electroskins.

Let T be a compactly generated triangulated category. In this paper, the width and local homology dimension of an object X with respect to a homogeneous ideal a, widthR(a,X) and hd(a,X), respectively, are introduced. The local nature and some basic properties of widthR(a,X) and hd(a,X) are provided. In addition, we give an upper bound and lower bound of widthR(a,X). What is more, we give the relationship between the local homology dimension hd(a,X) and the arithmetic rank of a and dimR.

The construction of anatase/rutile heterojunctions in TiO2 is an effective way of improving the CO2 photoreduction activity. Yet, the origin of the superior photocatalytic performance is still unclear. To solve this issue, the band edges between anatase and rutile phases were theoretically determined based on the three-phase atomic model of (112)A/II/(101)R, and simultaneously the CO2 reduction processes were meticulously investigated. Our calculations show that photogenerated holes can move readily from anatase to rutile via the thin intermediated II phase, while photoelectrons flowing in the opposite direction may be impeded due to the electron trapping sites at the II phase. However, the large potential drop across the anatase/rutile interface and the strong built-in electric field can provide an effective driving force for photoelectrons’ migration to anatase. In addition, the II phase can better enhance the solar light utilization of (112)A/(100)II, including a wide light response range and an intensive optical absorption coefficient. Meanwhile, the mixed-phase TiO2 possesses negligible hydrogenation energy (CO2 to COOH*) and lower rate-limiting energy (HCOOH* to HCO*), which greatly facilitate CH3OH generation. The efficient charge separation, strengthened light absorption, and facile CO2 reduction successfully demonstrate that the anatase/rutile mixed-phase TiO2 is an efficient photocatalyst utilized for CO2 conversion.

Managing community cats in urban China is a contentious and emerging issue, with debates centering on the most effective and humane approaches. This study aimed to investigate public attitudes towards community cats and various management strategies. A survey was conducted involving 5382 urban residents in China. Their attitudes towards the positive and negative roles of community cats in urban areas and their support for different management methods were examined, including trap-and-kill, taking no action, centralized management, and trap–neuter–return (TNR) and its variations. Results indicated that 63% of participants were willing to coexist with community cats, 71% opposed trap-and-kill, and 61% agreed or strongly agreed with the TNR method and its variations. Older residents or those with higher incomes were more likely to support coexistence with community cats. In contrast, younger or lower-income residents were more likely to support non-coexistence. Residents in first- or second-tier cities (e.g., Beijing, Hangzhou, and Jinan Cities in China) were more inclined to support trap-and-kill and less likely to support coexistence than their counterparts in fourth-tier cities (e.g., county-level cities in China). Moreover, those with lower education or incomes were more supportive of trap-and-kill and taking no action as the methods to manage community cats than those with relatively higher education or incomes. Those with higher incomes held more positive attitudes towards community cats and were more supportive of TNR and its variations than their counterparts with lower incomes. Males were more inclined to support trap-and-kill and taking no action and less inclined to support centralized management and TNR than females. The implications of the findings on TNR with adoption programs in urban China are discussed. These novel findings underscore the need for targeted educational campaigns to promote humane and effective management strategies, addressing public concerns and community cats’ welfare. The study’s insights are critical for informing policy and improving community cat management in urban China.

This research aims to address the limited consideration given to non-motorized transport facilities in current studies on shared bike travel demand forecasting. This study is the first to propose a method that applies complete citywide non-motorized facility data to predict bike-sharing demand. This study employs a multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) model to examine the effects of non-motorized transport facility conditions, quantity of intersections, and land use per unit area on riding demand at various spatial scales. The results of comparison experiments reveal that riding demand is substantially affected by non-motorized transport facilities and the quantity of intersections.

In order to improve the precision of phase recognition and reduce the rate of misdetection, this paper applies the deep learning method to automatic phase recognition. In this paper, an automatic seismic phase recognition model based on the Bi-LSTM network is designed. To test the performance of this model, the STEAD dataset is used for training and testing, and this model is compared with the traditional STA/LTA and AIC methods. The experimental results show that, compared to STA/LTA and AIC methods, the Bi-LSTM network can reduce the misdetection rate by about 8–15%, and improve the RSEM; especially, the prediction error of S-wave is greatly reduced.

The rapid expansion of reservoir fractures and the enlargement of the area affected by working fluids can be accomplished solely through fracturing operations of oilfield working fluids in geological reservoirs. Supercritical CO2 is regarded as an ideal medium for shale reservoir fracturing owing to the inherent advantages of environmental friendliness, excellent capacity, and high stability. However, CO2 gas channeling and complex propagation of fractures in shale reservoirs hindered the commercialization of Supercritical CO2 fracturing technology. Herein, a simulation method for Supercritical CO2 fracturing based on cohesive force units is proposed to investigate the crack propagation behavior of CO2 fracturing technology under different construction parameters. Furthermore, the shale fracture propagation mechanism of Supercritical CO2 fracturing fluid is elucidated. The results indicated that the propagation ability of reservoir fractures and Mises stress are influenced by the fracturing fluid viscosity, fracturing azimuth angle, and reservoir conditions (temperature and pressure). An azimuth angle of 30° can achieve a maximum Mises stress of 3.213 × 107 Pa and a crack width of 1.669 × 10−2 m. However, an apparent viscosity of 14 × 10−6 Pa·s results in a crack width of only 2.227 × 10−2 m and a maximum Mises stress of 4.459 × 107 Pa. Additionally, a weaker fracture propagation ability and reduced Mises stress are exhibited at the fracturing fluid injection rate. As a straightforward model to synergistically investigate the fracture propagation behavior of shale reservoirs, this work provides new insights and strategies for the efficient extraction of shale reservoirs.

The toxicity of cadmium (Cd) not only affects the growth and development of plants but also has an impact on human health. In this study, high-throughput sequencing and LC-MS were conducted to analyze the effect of CdCl2 treatment on the microbial community and soil metabolomics of rhizosphere soil in Rhododendron decorum subsp. diaprepes. The results showed that CdCl2 treatment reduced the quality of the rhizosphere soil by significantly decreasing the soil organic carbon (SOC) content, urease, and invertase activities, increasing the percentage of the exchangeable Cd fraction. CdCl2 treatment did not significantly change the Chao1 and Shannon indices of bacterial and fungal communities in the rhizosphere soil. R. decorum was more likely to recruit Cd-resistant bacteria (e.g., Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi) and increase the abundance of Cd-resistant fungi (e.g., Basidiomycota, Rozellomycota). Moreover, CdCl2 treatment decreased the content of secondary metabolites associated with plants’ resistance to Cd. Rhizosphere soil urease, invertase activities, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), SOC, total potassium (TK), Cd, and nitrate nitrogen (NN) were the main drivers of the composition of rhizosphere bacterial and fungal communities. CdCl2 treatment weakened the relationships among bacterial/fungi, differential metabolites, and physicochemical properties in rhizosphere soil.

Smart community construction (SCC) is pivotal for urban modernization, yet extant research often neglects the residents’ perceptions of these initiatives, focusing predominantly on technological advancements. A hybrid evaluation method integrating the Entropy Weight Method (EWM) and PROMETHEE II was developed to quantify residents’ perceptions of SCC. Through the literature review and expert interview, the evaluation indicators for residents’ perceptions of the SCC were identified, leading to the development of an evaluation indicator system consisting of 5 dimensions and 25 indicators. The hybrid evaluation method that combines EWM and PROMETHEE II was then applied to quantify the level of residents’ perceptions of SCC across five communities in Shenzhen city of China, using data from 410 valid questionnaires. The results indicated that the Baolong community had the highest level of the SCC, while the Nanyuan community exhibited the lowest ranking. Sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of these results, thereby validating the evaluation process. Moreover, recommendations were proposed to enhance residents’ perceptions of smart community initiatives. This research not only introduces a novel evaluation method that expands the body of knowledge on the SCC and residents’ perceptions but also helps the government develop sustainable SCC strategies.

Shrub invasion affects plant growth and soil physicochemical properties, resulting in soil microbiota metabolic pathway changes. However, little is known about the shrub expansion intensity of microbial metabolic pathway processes. In this study, we used metagenome sequencing technology to investigate changes in soil microbial C and N metabolic pathways and community structures, along with different shrub invasion intensities, in the Sanjiang Plain wetlands. Different shrub invasion intensities significantly affected the soil microbial composition (β diversity), with no significant effect on the α diversity compared to CK. AN, pH, and TP were the major factors influencing the microbial community’s structures. Compared to CK, the shrub expansion intensity did not significantly affect C fixation and central metabolism but significantly reduced methanogenesis, which involves the CO2-to-methane transition that occurs in methane metabolism, and denitrification, the nitrite to nitric oxide (nirK or nirS) transition that occurs in N metabolism. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the biogeochemical cycles of wetland ecosystems in cold northern regions undergoing shrub invasion.

The formation of environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs) is mediated by the particulate matter's surface, especially transition metal oxide surfaces. In the context of current atmospheric complex pollution, various atmospheric components, such as key atmospheric oxidants ·OH and O3, are often absorbed on particulate matter surfaces, forming particulate matter surfaces containing ·OH and O3. This, in turn, influences EPFRs formation. Here, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to explore the formation mechanism of EPFRs by C6H5OH on α-Fe2O3(0001) surface containing the ·OH and O3, and compare it with that on clean surface. The results show that, compared to EPFRs formation with an energy barrier on a clean surface, EPFRs can be rapidly formed through a barrierless process on these surfaces. Moreover, during the hydrogen abstraction mechanism leading to EPFRs formation, the hydrogen acceptor shifts from a surface O atom on a clean surface to an O atom of ·OH or O₃ on these surfaces. However, the detailed hydrogen abstraction process differs on surfaces containing oxidants: on surfaces containing ·OH, it occurs directly through a one-step mechanism, while, on surfaces containing O3, it occurs through a two-step mechanism. But, in both types of surfaces, the essence of this promotional effect mainly lies in increasing the electron transfer amounts during the reaction process. This research provides new insights into EPFRs formation on particle surfaces within the context of atmospheric composite pollution.

Objective: Despite being primary beneficiaries of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, female university students in China exhibit low vaccination rates. This study aimed to assess their preferences for HPV vaccination services and evaluate the relative importance of various factors to inform vaccination strategy development. Methods: Through a literature review and expert consultations, we identified five key attributes for study: effectiveness, protection duration, waiting time, distance, and out-of-pocket (OOP) payment. A D-efficient design was used to create a discrete choice experiment (DCE) questionnaire. We collected data via face-to-face interviews and online surveys from female students across seven universities in China, employing mixed logit and latent class logit models to analyze the data. The predicted uptake and compensating variation (CV) were used to compare different vaccination service scenarios. Results: From 1178 valid questionnaires, with an effective response rate of 92.9%, we found that effectiveness was the most significant factor influencing vaccination preference, followed by protection duration, OOP payment and waiting time, with less concern for distance. The preferred services included a 90% effective vaccine, lifetime protection, a waiting time of less than three months, a travel time of more than 60 min, and low OOP payment. Significant variability in preferences across different vaccination service scenarios was observed, affecting potential market shares. The CV analysis showed female students were willing to spend approximately CNY 5612.79 to include a hypothetical ‘Service 5’ (a vaccine with higher valency than the nine-valent HPV vaccine) in their prevention options. Conclusions: The findings underscore the need for personalized, need-based HPV vaccination services that cater specifically to the preferences of female university students to increase vaccination uptake and protect their health.

Ginkgo biloba is abundant in secondary metabolites, including flavonoids and terpenoids. While the majority of research has focused on the role of these compounds in disease resistance, their specific contribution to pathogen defense has been rarely explored. In this study, we collected root exudates from hydroponically cultivated ginkgo seedlings and conducted a metabolomic analysis. We identified several primary metabolites mainly comprising amino acids and nucleotides, while secondary metabolites consisted of various compounds, including bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and terpenoids. Focusing on the secondary metabolites with relatively higher abundance in the exudates, we selected a mixture of flavonoids and terpenoids for in vitro inhibition experiments against two soil-borne fungal pathogens, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum that causes cucumber wilt and Rhizoctonia solani AG-8 that causes wheat root rot. The results indicated that the growth rate of both fungus cells was significantly reduced with the increasing concentration of the flavonoid and terpenoid mixture extracted from ginkgo and was completely inhibited at a concentration of 5 mg/mL. Further experiments revealed that this mixture of flavonoids and terpenoids had a destructive effect on the cellular structure of both fungi, thereby reducing cell viability and achieving an antifungal effect. These findings provide a foundation for further research into the use of ginkgo extracts in biological control.

In the aquaculture system of ornamental fish, the interaction between bacterial microbiota and ciliate protozoa can prevent or promote disease outbreaks, and different physicochemical conditions will affect the relationships between them. We investigated the interaction between bacterial microbiota and the parasite Tetrahymena pyriformis when infecting Poecilia reticulata (guppy) under different physicochemical conditions. The abundance of T. pyriformis in water, the relative abundance of bacterial species, and histopathological observation were studied or monitored using environmental DNA (eDNA) extraction technology, the qPCR method, and 16s rRNA sequencing, respectively. The morphological identification and phylogenetic analysis of T. pyriformis were carried out. The infected guppy tissue was also stained by the hematoxylin and eosin methods. The results showed: (1) the bacterial communities of water samples were mainly composed of species assigned to Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes, and Tabrizicola and Puniceicoccaceae were positively correlated with fish mortality, T. pyriformis abundance, and temperature. (2) Arcicella and Methyloversatilis universalis with different correlations between ciliates appeared in different treatment groups, the result of which proved that environmental factors affected the interaction between bacteria and T. pyriformis. (3) Lower temperatures and a higher pH were more beneficial for preventing disease outbreaks.

Agrocybe cylindracea dietary fiber (ADF) contains 95% water-insoluble dietary fiber, resulting in poor application performance. To address this issue, ADF was modified by four methods (cellulase, sodium hydroxide, high-temperature, and Lactobacillus fermentation) in this paper. By comparing the physicochemical properties, microstructures, monosaccharide compositions, and functional characteristics (antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities in vitro) of all modified ADF samples, the optimal modification method was selected. Results showed that sodium hydroxide treatment was deemed the most effective modification method for ADF, as alkali-treated ADF (ADF-A) revealed a higher oil-holding capacity (2.02 g/g), swelling capacity (8.38 mL/g), cholesterol adsorption (6.79 mg/g), and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (more than 70% at 0.4–0.6 mg/mL) than the other modified samples. The looser microstructure in ADF-A might be attributed to molecular rearrangement and spatial structure disruption, which resulted in smaller molecular sizes and decreased viscosity, hence improving ADF’s physicochemical and functional qualities. All these findings indicate the greater application potential of modified ADF products in food and weight-loss industries, providing a comprehensive reference for the industrial application of ADF.

Water temperature is a fundamental parameter of aquatic ecosystems. It directly influences most processes occurring within them. Hence, knowledge of this parameter’s behavior, based on long-term (reliable) observations, is crucial. Gaps in these observations can be filled using contemporary methodological solutions. Difficulties in reconstructing water temperature arise from the selection of an appropriate methodology, and overcoming them involves the proper selection of input data and choosing the optimal modeling approach. This study employed the air2water model and Landsat satellite imagery to reconstruct the water temperature of Lake Miedwie (the fifth largest in Poland), for which field observations conducted by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management—National Research Institute ended in the late 1980s. The approach based on satellite images in this case yielded less accurate results than model analyses. However, it is important to emphasize the advantage of satellite images over point measurements in the spatial interpretation of lake thermal conditions. In the studied case, due to the lake’s shape, the surface water layer showed no significant thermal contrasts. Based on the model data, long-term changes in water temperature were determined, which historically (1972–2023) amounted to 0.20 °C per decade. According to the adopted climate change scenarios by the end of the 21st century (SSP245 and SSP585), the average annual water temperature will be higher by 1.8 °C and 3.2 °C, respectively. It should be emphasized that the current and simulated changes are unfavorable, especially considering the impact of temperature on water quality. From an economic perspective, Lake Miedwie serves as a reservoir of drinking water, and changes in the thermal regime should be considered in the management of this ecosystem.

In order to address the issue of limited common coverage and high cost in mapping ocean surface vector current by two (or more) high-frequency surface wave radars, this paper proposes a single-station surface wave radar vector current inversion algorithm. The feasibility of this algorithm has been validated in the Taiwan Strait. Based on the ocean dynamic characteristics of the Taiwan Strait, the algorithm utilizes the radial current obtained from a high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) in Fujian Province to invert the ocean surface vector current. The surface vector current can be decomposed into three primary dynamic components: tidal currents, wind-driven currents, and geostrophic currents. Firstly, tidal current forecasting models and Ekman and Stokes theories are used to calculate the tidal and wind-driven currents in the Taiwan Strait, respectively. Subsequently, the directions of geostrophic currents in the Taiwan Strait are determined with sea surface height data, and the magnitudes of the geostrophic currents are constrained using the radial current from the single HFSWR. Finally, the three components are added together to obtain the vector current. Comparative results demonstrate that the efficacy of the algorithm has been validated through field experiments (with two HFSWRs and two drifting buoys) conducted in the southwestern of the Taiwan Strait. Further research is needed on the applicability of this algorithm to other sea areas and monitoring systems.

Pulsed electric field (PEF) is an up-to-date non-thermal processing technology with a wide range of applications in the food industry. The inactivation effect of PEF on Escherichia coli was different under different conditions. The E. coli inactivated number was 1.13 ± 0.01 lg CFU/mL when PEF was treated for 60 min and treated with 0.24 kV/cm. The treatment times were found to be positively correlated with the inactivation effect of PEF, and the number of E. coli was reduced by 3.09 ± 0.01 lg CFU/mL after 100 min of treatment. The inactivation assays showed that E. coli was inactivated at electrical intensity (0.24 kV/cm) within 100 min, providing an effective inactivating outcome for Gram-negative bacteria. The purpose of this work was to investigate the cellular level (morphological destruction, intracellular macromolecule damage, intracellular enzyme inactivation) as well as the molecular level via transcriptome analysis. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (TFESEM) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) results demonstrated that cell permeability was disrupted after PEF treatment. Entocytes, including proteins and DNA, were markedly reduced after PEF treatment. In addition, the activities of Pyruvate Kinase (PK), Succinate Dehydrogenase (SDH), and Adenosine Triphosphatase (ATPase) were inhibited remarkably for PEF-treated samples. Transcriptome sequencing results showed that differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to the biosynthesis of the cell membrane, DNA replication and repair, energy metabolism, and mobility were significantly affected. In conclusion, membrane damage, energy metabolism disruption, and other pathways are important mechanisms of PEF’s inhibitory effect on E. coli.

Dietary nutrition plays a crucial role in determining pregnancy outcomes, with poor diet being a major contributor to pregnancy metabolic syndrome and metabolic disorders in offspring. While carbohydrates are essential for fetal development, the excessive consumption of low-quality carbohydrates can increase the risk of pregnancy complications and have lasting negative effects on offspring development. Recent studies not only highlighted the link between carbohydrate intake during pregnancy, maternal health, and offspring well-being, but also suggested that the quality of carbohydrate foods consumed is more critical. This article reviews the impacts of low-carbohydrate and high-carbohydrate diets on pregnancy complications and offspring health, introduces the varied physiological effects of different types of carbohydrate consumption during pregnancy, and emphasizes the importance of both the quantity and quality of carbohydrates in nutritional interventions during pregnancy. These findings may offer valuable insights for guiding dietary interventions during pregnancy and shaping the future development of carbohydrate-rich foods.

Recently, the incidence of NAFLD has exploded globally, but there are currently no officially approved medications for treating the condition. The regulation of NAFLD through plant-derived active substances has become a new area of interest. Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) has been discovered to contain a large quantity of bioactive compounds. In this study, we established a free fatty acid (FFA)-induced steatosis model and explored the effects of quinoa polyphenol extract (QPE) on the major hallmarks of NAFLD. The results indicated that QPE significantly reduced intracellular triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) levels. Additionally, QPE remarkably elevated the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione (GSH) and lowered levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). Further examination revealed that QPE attenuated intracellular inflammation, which was verified by the reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Mechanistically, QPE inhibited fatty acid biosynthesis mainly by targeting de novo lipogenesis (DNL) via the AMPK/SREBP-1c signaling pathway. Moreover, network pharmacology was used to analyze key targets for NAFLD mitigation by ferulic acid (FA), a major component of QPE. Taken together, this study suggests that QPE could ameliorate NAFLD by modulating hepatic lipid metabolism and alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation.

Sphingolipids play an important role in cotton fiber development, but the regulatory mechanism is largely unclear. We found that serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT) enzyme inhibitors, myriocin and sphingosine (dihydrosphingosine (DHS) and phytosphingosine (PHS)), affected early fiber elongation in cotton, and we performed a sphingolipidomic and transcriptomic analysis of control and PHS-treated fibers. Myriocin inhibited fiber elongation, while DHS and PHS promoted it in a dose–effect manner. Using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS), we found that contents of 22 sphingolipids in the PHS-treated fibers for 10 days were changed, of which the contents of 4 sphingolipids increased and 18 sphingolipids decreased. The transcriptome analysis identified 432 differentially expressed genes (238 up-regulated and 194 down-regulated) in the PHS-treated fibers. Among them, the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway is the most significant enrichment. The expression levels of transcription factors such as MYB, ERF, LBD, and bHLH in the fibers also changed, and most of MYB and ERF were up-regulated. Auxin-related genes IAA, GH3 and BIG GRAIN 1 were up-regulated, while ABPs were down-regulated, and the contents of 3 auxin metabolites were decreased. Our results provide important sphingolipid metabolites and regulatory pathways that influence fiber elongation.

Multi-modal object re-identification (ReID) is a challenging task that seeks to identify objects across different image modalities by leveraging their complementary information. Traditional CNN-based methods are constrained by limited receptive fields, whereas Transformer-based approaches are hindered by high computational demands and a lack of convolutional biases. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel fusion framework named MambaReID, integrating the strengths of both architectures with the effective VMamba. Specifically, our MambaReID consists of three components: Three-Stage VMamba (TSV), Dense Mamba (DM), and Consistent VMamba Fusion (CVF). TSV efficiently captures global context information and local details with low computational complexity. DM enhances feature discriminability by fully integrating inter-modality information with shallow and deep features through dense connections. Additionally, with well-aligned multi-modal images, CVF provides more granular modal aggregation, thereby improving feature robustness. The MambaReID framework, with its innovative components, not only achieves superior performance in multi-modal object ReID tasks, but also does so with fewer parameters and lower computational costs. Our proposed MambaReID’s effectiveness is validated by extensive experiments conducted on three multi-modal object ReID benchmarks.

Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh (BLE Mesh) enables Bluetooth flexibility and coverage by introducing Low-Power Nodes (LPNs) and enhanced networking protocol. It is also a commonly used communication method in sensor networks. In BLE Mesh, LPNs are periodically woken to exchange messages in a stop-and-wait way, where the tradeoff between energy and efficiency is a hard problem. Related works have reduced the energy consumption of LPNs mainly in the direction of changing the bearer layer, improving time synchronization and broadcast channel utilization. These algorithms improve communication efficiency; however, they cause energy loss, especially for the LPNs. In this paper, we propose a constrained flooding algorithm based on time series prediction and lightweight GBN (Go-Back-N). On the one hand, the wake-up cycle of the LPNs is determined by the time series prediction of the surrounding load. On the other, LPNs exchange messages through lightweight GBN, which improves the window and ACK mechanisms. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the Time series Prediction and LlightWeight GBN (TP-LW) algorithm in energy consumption and throughput. Compared with the original algorithm of BLE Mesh, when fewer packets are transmitted, the throughput is increased by 214.71%, and the energy consumption is reduced by 65.14%.

The bolts and connections of each working part of a rice combine harvester can suffer from severe instantaneous impacts and alternating loads, and these strong impacts and loads cause instantaneous fracture and fatigue failure of the bolt face and even the loosening, detachment, and fracture of the bolt. The main vibration directions and the most complex vibration parts of the bolts and connections in the main working parts of a combine harvester under time-variable multiload excitation were obtained through the analysis of response signals in terms of time-domain and frequency–domain characteristics via a vibration response experiment. This study revealed that the random peak value of the vibrating screen is 12.5622, which is the severe impact and collision standard. For the vibrating screen, the local peak in the 4-Y direction was the main load of the destroying bolt connection (the impact reached 60.57 m/s2, 96.91 m/s2) and the vibration energy intensity in the 4-Z direction was mainly concentrated at 12.42 m/s2, which is the maximum vibration energy value in the three directions (the peak vibration value reached 109~115.68 m/s2), so the bolted connections of the vibrating screen are the most vulnerable to destruction. Therefore, a kinetic model and a microscopic response model of a vibrating screen were established via the centralized mass method to explore the kinetic response characteristics of bolted structures subjected to multiple excitation loads, thus providing a mathematical model for identifying the features of bolted connections based on static characteristics.

Perineural invasion (PNI), the neoplastic invasion of nerves, is an often overlooked pathological phenomenon in cervical cancer that is associated with poor clinical outcomes. The occurrence of PNI in cervical cancer patients has limited the promotion of Type C1 surgery. Preoperative prediction of the PNI can help identify suitable patients for Type C1 surgery. However, there is a lack of appropriate preoperative diagnostic methods for PNI, and its pathogenesis remains largely unknown. Here, we dissect the neural innervation of the cervix, analyze the molecular mechanisms underlying the occurrence of PNI, and explore suitable preoperative diagnostic methods for PNI to advance the identification and treatment of this ominous cancer phenotype.

Strawberry red core root rot disease affects the growth and yield of strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch), which leads to economic losses in China. The study employed a tissue separation method to isolate and identify the causal agent responsible for strawberry red core root rot. This was achieved by the observation of its morphological characteristics, sequencing analyses, and pathogenicity tests. The sensitivity of five chemical fungicides against the two species of Fusarium was determined using the mycelial growth rate method, and the biological characteristics of the two species were examined. The pathogens were identified as Fusarium solani and Fusarium oxysporum. The optimal conditions for the mycelial growth of F. solani and F. oxysporum were determined to be potato sucrose agar at 25 °C and pH 6, and potato dextrose agar at 30 °C and pH 8, respectively, with a 24:24 light cycle. The most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources for the mycelial growth of F. solani were sucrose and sodium nitrate (NaNO3), while for F. oxysporum, they were glucose and peptone. A fungicide sensitivity test indicated that Prochloraz had a good inhibitory effect on the growth of F. solani and F. oxysporum with EC50 values of 0.088 mg L−1 and 0.162 mg. The growth inhibition effect of Azoxystrobin to F. solani and Carbendazim to F. oxysporum was not obvious. This study provides a theoretical basis for further research on strawberry red core root disease and its prevention.

A thorough comprehension of distribution features of ecosystem services (ESs) and the influencing mechanisms can offer scientific guidance for the ecosystem management of small watersheds. We analyzed the spatial distribution patterns, interrelationships, and service hotspots of ESs across pixel and administrative scales using a multi-level statistical analysis approach in the Ashi River Basin. Through the quantitative calculation of the InVEST model, the findings revealed a decrease in soil retention, water yield, total nitrogen and phosphorus export, carbon storage, and habitat quality, while an increase in food production was observed during the period from 1995 to 2015. Through the geographical detector, the spatial heterogeneity of most individual ESs was influenced by land use patterns. Through redundancy analysis, terrain factors had the highest contribution rate to the integral ESs. Socio-economic factors and climate factors also drove the ESs’ amount and spatial distribution. At the pixel scale and administrative scale, there were distinctions in the correlations between all ESs, reflected by the fact that the relationships between ESs at the administrative scale were generally weaker and no more significant than at the pixel scale. Based on the number and distribution of hotspots in ESs and the clustering results of influencing factors, the framework of ecosystem zoning was constructed. This basin was divided into three ecological zones, and the management policies were formulated according to the ecological environment. This study clarifies the internal and mutual connection between ESs and influencing factors across two scales, thus contributing to the advancement of management strategies for ecological conservation and socio-economic development within the context of small watersheds.

The ZnMn2O4/V2CTx composites with a lamellar rod-like bond structure were successfully synthesized through high-temperature calcination at 300 °C, aiming to enhance the Li storage properties of spinel-type ZnMn2O4 anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, even though the electrode of the composites obtained at 300 °C had a nominal specific capacity of 100 mAh g−1, it exhibited an impressive specific discharge capacity of 163 mAh g−1 after undergoing 100 cycles. This represents an approximate increase of 64% compared to that observed in the pure ZnMn2O4 electrode (99.5 mAh g−1). The remarkable performance of the composite can be credited to the collaborative impact between ZnMn2O4 and V2CTx, leading to a substantial improvement in its lithium ion storage capacity. Therefore, this study offers valuable insights into developing cost-effective, safe, and easily prepared anode materials.

Helleborus thibetanus is an endemic species in China with important ornamental and medicinal value. However, the seeds have dormancy, and their germination percentage is low under natural conditions. This research was carried out to determine the seed germination requirements of H. thibetanus and to characterize the type of seed dormancy. The morphological post-ripening process of the seed embryo was studied according to the morphological anatomy, and the effects of temperature and gibberellic acid (GA3) on seed germination were investigated in H. thibetanus. The H. thibetanus seeds had a heart-shaped embryo at maturity. The embryo fully grew within the seed through warm stratification, and the embryo/seed ratio increased from 8.58% to 42.6%. The shortest time for a radicle to emerge (58.33 d) and the highest radicle emergence percentage (84.44%) were obtained at a temperature of 15 °C. The results showed that the H. thibetanus seeds had a morphophysiological dormancy. In addition, 300 mg/L GA3 treatments shortened the time of warm stratification and increased the radicle emergence percentage. Seeds with emerged radicles could not emerge epicotyl–plumule without cold stratification, which showed that the H. thibetanus seeds had epicotyl physiological dormancy. The length of the roots, cold stratification time, and GA3 markedly affected the release of the epicotyl physiological dormancy in H. thibetanus. The seeds with 2.5 cm roots required the shortest time to break their dormancy (50 d), and the epicotyl–plumule emergence percentage was the highest. Additionally, GA3 treatment also shortened the incubation time in cold stratification (5 °C) and successfully broke the epicotyl physiological dormancy. Our study showed that H. thibetanus seeds exhibited deep simple epicotyl morphophysiological dormancy. Temperature, GA3, and duration of stratification played vital roles in the seed germination of H. thibetanus. This research will provide valuable data for seed germination and practical dormancy-breaking techniques and will promote the cultivation and conventional crossbreeding of H. thibetanus.

As a catalyst for urban landscape transformation, the reuse of heritage sites plays a pivotal role in shaping contemporary urban spaces and influencing socio-economic development. However, this phenomenon is not without controversy, particularly regarding the quality of preservation and the potential risks associated with over-commodification. Consequently, there has been an increasing research focus on reconciling these conflicting aspects. This study employs a multi-value interpretation framework to delve into the reuse of heritage sites in the urban area of Xi’an within the broader context of China’s urbanization. Utilizing a comparative case study method, this research specifically examines the burgeoning phenomenon of heritage parks. This exploration sheds light on how the reuse of heritage intertwines with urbanization processes, by taking into account environmental, economic, social, and cultural values. The findings suggest that a multi-value interpretation framework is crucial to address the limitations of the current heritagization. Heritage sites in Xi’an have been integrated into the urban transformation process through heritage conservation and the production of new heritage spaces. However, the evolving multi-value evaluation of these heritage sites continues to influence the city’s interpretation of its significant and fading past in planning. This study highlights the dynamic nature of heritage sites in the urban context and underscores the need for nuanced approaches to balance heritage preservation with the evolving demands of contemporary urban development.

This paper studies the containment control problem of heterogeneous multi-agent systems (MASs) with multiple leaders. The follower agent dynamics are assumed to be unknown and nonlinear. First, each follower is transformed into an incremental data description based on the dynamic linearization technique. Then, a distributed model-free adaptive containment control law is proposed such that all followers will be driven into the convex hull of the leaders. Furthermore, the algorithm is extended to the time-switching and dynamic leaders case. As a data-driven approach, the proposed controller design uses only the received input and output (I/O) data of these agents rather than agent mathematical models. Finally, to test the potential in real applications, three representative examples considering various environment factors, including external disturbances, are simulated to show the effectiveness and resilience of this method.

To address the centralized trading demand within industrial parks and the scattered peer-to-peer trading demand outside industrial parks, this paper proposes a blockchain-based joint auction architecture for distributed energy in microgrids inside and outside industrial parks. By combining blockchain technology and auction theory, the architecture integrates the physical energy transactions within industrial parks with the distributed transactions in external microgrids to meet the centralized trading demand within industrial parks and the scattered peer-to-peer trading demand outside industrial parks, optimizing resource allocation and improving system resilience. In the microgrid auction mechanism for industrial parks, considering distributed energy providers (sellers) and distributed energy buyers, an auction mechanism with power transmission distance, average electricity price, and enterprise nature as its main attributes was constructed to maximize social welfare, realizing efficient energy flow in a multi-microgrid environment and enabling coordinated mutual benefits for producers and consumers within the region. Finally, a case study was conducted on the joint auction mechanism for microgrids inside and outside industrial parks, including the impacts of market dynamics and user preferences on electricity prices using different trading methods, the computational results using different trading matching methods (comparing single-attribute and multi-attribute methods), and multi-dimensional verification of user satisfaction with peer-to-peer transactions in a blockchain environment. The effectiveness of the joint trading between physical energy transactions within industrial parks and external microgrids was demonstrated, which could efficiently coordinate energy allocation inside and outside the parks and reduce the cost of energy configuration.

The study used headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HS–SPME–GC–TOF–MS) to analyze volatile compounds in leaves and fruits of Amomum tsaoko, Amomum paratsaoko, and Amomum koenigii. The composition and aroma of distinct metabolites were analyzed using multivariate statistical methods. A total of 564 volatile compounds were identified from three species of the genus Amomum, which were further divided into nine categories: terpenoids, carboxylic acids, alcohols, hydrocarbons, aldehydes, ketones, phenols, ethers, and other compounds. Terpenoids and alcohols were the most abundant. The content and types of compounds vary in A. tsaoko, A. paratsaoko, and A. koenigii, so mixing or substituting them is not advisable. We selected 45 metabolites based on the criteria of the variable importance in projection values (VIP > 1.5) and one-way ANOVA (p < 0.05). The top 19 metabolites with the most significant VIP values were chosen. Interestingly, (Z)-2-decenal was only found in Amomum koenigii, while nitroethane and nonanal were only present in cultivated A. tsaoko. Additionally, linalool, cineole, and (D)-limonene were the main components affecting the aroma of three species of the genus Amomum. The volatile components identified in this study provide a theoretical basis for analyzing the unique flavor of A. tsaoko, A. paratsaoko, and A. koenigii.

Floral scent is an essential and genetically complex trait in herbaceous peonies (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.); however, specific genes related to metabolic and regulatory networks remain scantily studied. Our study integrated metabolite profiling and RNA-sequencing to screen floral scent biosynthetic genes. Hence, the major molecules identified by headspace collection combined with cultivar-specific GC-MS analysis were geraniol, β-caryophyllene, 2-phenylethanol (2-PE), citronellol, and 1,8-cineole. Genes related to terpenoids and 2-PE biosynthesis were identified after the assembly and annotation of the P. lactiflora transcriptomes. Eight angiosperm-specific terpene synthases (TPSs) from the TPS-a and TPS-b clades, as well as enzymes linked to 2-PE synthesis such as aromatic amino acid decarboxylase (AADC), phenylacetaldehyde reductase (PAR), and geranial reductase (GER) were identified. The biochemical analysis of the enzymes encoded by PlPAR1 and PlGER1 generated 2-PE from phenylacetaldehyde (PAld). The pairwise alignment of AADC1 reveals a splice variant lacking a 124 bp fragment, thus highlighting the possible role of alternative splicing in modulating floral scent composition. This study offers insights into the molecular-level biosynthesis of terpenoids and 2-PE in Peonia taxa, and provides the basis for the functional characterization, breeding, and bioengineering of prospective candidate genes for the production of floral volatiles in the Paeonia genus.
