In this study, the effects of laser power on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Inconel 718 formed by SLM were systematically studied. The results show that with the increase in laser power from 285 W to 360 W, the increase in working temperature in the molten pool promoted the evaporation of gas and the vaporization of the low-melting-point alloy components, and the relative density gradually increased from 99.31% to 99.79%. In addition, with the increase in laser energy density, the microstructure gradually coarsened from columnar dendrites to cellular crystals. The nano-hardness of the material decreased with the increase in laser power. The nano-hardness of four groups of samples from 285 W to 360 W decreased form 3.43 GPa to 2.09 GPa, and the elastic modulus decreased form 205.72 GPa to 199.91 GPa.

Dense lithium hydride (LiH) is widely used in neutron shielding applications for thermonuclear reactors and space systems due to its unique properties. However, traditional sintering methods often lead to cracking in LiH products. This study investigates the densification sintering of LiH using microwave technology. A multiphysics model was established based on the measured dielectric properties of LiH at different temperatures, allowing for a detailed analysis of the electromagnetic and thermal field distributions during the microwave heating of cylindrical LiH samples. The results indicate that the electric field distribution within the LiH is relatively uniform, with resistive losses concentrated primarily in the LiH region of the microwave cavity. LiH rapidly absorbs microwave energy, reaching the sintering temperature of 520 °C in just 415 s. Additionally, the temperature difference between the low- and high-temperature regions during the sintering process remains below 5 °C, demonstrating excellent uniform heating characteristics. The microwave sintering process enhances interface migration within the LiH samples, resulting in dense metallurgical bonding between grains. In summary, this research provides valuable insights and theoretical support for the rapid densification of LiH materials, highlighting the potential of microwave technology in improving material properties.

Weizmannia coagulans has been shown to have anticancer properties. However, there is limited research on the effects of postbiotic W. coagulans on colorectal cancer cell proliferation. Additionally, the exact mechanisms through which it influences apoptosis- and autophagy-related signaling pathways are yet to be thoroughly elucidated. This study explored the role of W. coagulans MZY531 as a postbiotic in inhibiting tumor growth by modulating apoptosis and autophagy in tumor cells. During the experimental period in the model group, tumors proliferated, tumor markers increased significantly, and immunofluorescence results showed that caspase-3 and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling were significantly decreased. Conversely, supplementation with W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics significantly reduced the levels of tumor markers carcinoembryonic antigen, colon cancer antigen, and extracellular protein kinase A and promoted cell apoptosis by increasing the caspase-3-positive count and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling-positive cells in tumor tissue. Mechanistically, W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics inhibit tumor growth through the modulation of the Bax/Bcl-2/caspase-3 and JAK2/STAT3 apoptosis pathways and PI3K/AKT/mTOR and TGF-β/SMAD4 cell autophagy pathways. W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics had a more significant effect than that of W. coagulans MZY531 alone. Probiotics are expected to become effective natural functional foods for the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Career crafting offers a new approach for individuals to cope with changing career situations. However, few studies have focused on personality-related antecedents that stably predict career proactivity. Additionally, as individuals’ careers are embedded in various social relationships, career crafting involves significant social interaction. Our study focuses on gratitude, which is related to social interaction, suggesting that gratitude fosters an appreciation for interpersonal relationships, providing a beneficial impetus for career crafting. A quantitative approach was adopted with a three-wave survey with 825 responses, and SPSS 26 and Mplus 8.3 were used as the analytical software for confirmatory factor analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and path analysis. We conducted an empirical examination employing a moderated mediation model grounded in the framework of proactive motivation. The results revealed a positive correlation between gratitude and career crafting, with prosocial motivation mediating this relationship. Simultaneously, intrinsic motivation moderated the relationship between prosocial motivation and career crafting. Our study emphasizes gratitude’s role in career crafting and explores how it, along with prosocial motivations, drives proactive behaviors, responding to calls for relational work redesign and examining interactions between intrinsic and prosocial motivations in careers. It has important practical implications for individuals, organizations, and career counselors.

This research produced five hybrid-bonded fiber-reinforced plastic (HB-FRP)-reinforced beam specimens, and different fatigue load amplitudes were used as parameter variables for the fatigue performance tests of the FRP–concrete interface. The results show that FRP sliding with the number of cycles can be roughly divided into fatigue initiation stage, fatigue development stage, and fatigue damage stage, and finally, because the load is too large and friction, pin, and bonding cannot provide a greater inhibition effect, FRP adhesive length is not enough to withstand the stripping load and failure. FRP slip increases with increasing fatigue load amplitude for the same number of fatigue cycles; for the specimens with fatigue damage, the interfacial stiffness of FRP–concrete decreases with the increase in the number of cyclic, and the rate of stiffness damage at the FRP–concrete interface accelerates with increasing fatigue load amplitude. For fatigue load magnitudes higher than 0.6, the slopes of fatigue bond–slip curves decrease with the increase in the number of cycles. When the fatigue load magnitude is lower than 0.4, the slope of the fatigue bond–slip curve increases with the number of cycles and is close to the slope of the monotonically loaded curve. Due to the difference in load class, the bond strength of HB-F-1 continues to decrease with the increase in fatigue times, decreasing by 26% after 100 fatigue cycles and decreasing to 7.33 MPa after 5000 fatigue cycles. The bond strength of the sample HB-F-2 first increased and then decreased with the increase in fatigue times. After 10,000 fatigue cycles, the bond strength decreased by 8%, and at 11,133,300 fatigue breaks, the bond strength of the sample HB-F-3 continued to increase with the increase in fatigue times. At 2 million fatigue load cycles, the bond strength increased to 7 MPa, far from reaching the peak strength. The empirical formulas for the fatigue life curve of HB-FRP-reinforced specimens under single steel fasteners are proposed.

As a euryhaline fish species that inhabits estuarine and coastal regions, the spotbanded scat (Selenotoca multifasciata) experiences growth influences during its larval stage due to variations in salinity. Here, we evaluated salinity required by early-stage spotbanded scat juveniles to achieve the highest growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, survival, and antioxidant capacity. We reared spotbanded scat juveniles (all 0.50 ± 0.05 g) in 0–35‰ salinity gradients for 50 days and recorded their survival rate every 10 days. After 50 experimental days, we measured morphological data, stomach and intestinal digestive enzyme activities, and liver antioxidant enzyme activities and malondialdehyde contents. In general, 5–15‰ salinity led to 100% survival. The 5‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest values for the following measures: final wet body weight; weight gain rate; specific growth rate; growth percentage; average daily gain; stomach amylase and lipase specific activities; and intestinal amylase, lipase, trypsin, and pepsin specific activities. However, stomach trypsin and pepsin activities did not demonstrate significant between-group differences (all p > 0.05). The 25‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest liver superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities and malondialdehyde content. Finally, the 0‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest liver catalase activity. Thus, spotbanded scat juveniles demonstrate the highest survival rates, growth performance, and digestive enzyme activity at 5‰ salinity and the strongest oxidative stress responses at 25‰ salinity.

Heavy metal pollution not only causes detrimental effects on the environment but also poses threats to human health; thus, it is crucial to monitor the heavy metal content in the soil. Hyperspectral technology, characterized by high spectral resolution, rapid response, and non-destructive detection, is widely employed in soil composition monitoring. This study aims to investigate the effects of dimensionality reduction methods on the performance of hyperspectral inversion. To this end, 56 soil samples were collected in Daye, with the corresponding hyperspectral data acquired by the advanced ASD Fieldspec4 instrument. We employed the linear dimensionality reduction method, i.e., the principal component analysis (PCA), and non-linear method in terms of kernel PCA (KPCA) with polynomial, radial basis function (RBF), and sigmoid kernels to reduce the dimensionalities of original spectral reflectance and that processed by first-derivative transformation (FDT). Building upon this foundation, we applied the Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) algorithm for inverting the soil copper (Cu) content. The performance of each inversion model was evaluated by evaluation indices in terms of the coefficient of determination (R2), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and residual prediction deviation (RPD). The results revealed that the KPCA with polynomial kernel function applied to the FDT-based spectra could yield the optimal inversion accuracy, with corresponding R2, RMSE, and RPD being 0.86, 21.47 mg·kg−1, and 2.72, respectively. This study demonstrates that applying the FDT with KPCA processing can significantly improve the accuracy of the hyperspectral inversion for soil Cu content, providing a potential approach for monitoring heavy metal pollution using hyperspectral technology.

The electron beam cold hearth melting (EBCHM) process is one of the key processes for titanium alloy production. However, EBCHM is prone to cause elemental volatilization and segregation during the melting of aluminum-containing titanium alloys such as Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V. To gain deeper insights into the physical and chemical phenomena occurring during the EBCHM process, this paper establishes melting process models for the Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V titanium alloy in a crystallizer with multiple overflow inlets. It examines the evolution of melt pool morphology, flow dynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer during the casting process. The results indicate that the design of multi-overflow inlets can effectively suppress the longitudinal development of impact pits within the melt pool, thereby preventing the formation of solidification defects such as leaks in the melt. Concurrently, the diversion effect of multi-overflow inlets significantly enhances the elemental homogeneity within the melt pool. At a casting speed of 20 mm/min and a casting temperature of 2273 K, compared to a single overflow inlet, the design with three overflow inlets can reduce the depth of thermal impact pits within the crystallizer by 132 mm and decrease the maximum concentration difference in the Al element within the crystallizer by 0.933 wt.%. The aforementioned simulation results provide a theoretical basis for the control of metallurgical and solidification defects in large-scale titanium alloy ingots.

Inconel 706 (IN706) alloy is commonly used in aircraft engines and power plant components that must meet very high performance requirements. The stabilization treatment has a significant effect on the precipitation and evolution of the reinforcing phases of the alloy, favoring the creep properties and adversely affecting the room-temperature tensile properties. However, the mechanism of the effect of the stabilization treatment on the mechanical properties of the alloys remains unclear. In this study, the effect of stabilization treatment time on the microstructure and tensile properties of IN706 alloy was investigated. The results showed that as the stabilization time gradually increased, the tensile strength remained basically unchanged (about 1250 MPa), the yield strength decreased from 1031 MPa to 985 MPa, and the plasticity decreased from 28.2% to 20.2%. The stabilization treatment induces the precipitation of granular, rod-shaped, and needle-like η phases at grain boundaries, accompanied by the appearance of a precipitate free zone (PFZ). Since the η phase is enriched with Ti and Nb, its precipitation along the grain boundary results in the depletion of Ti and Nb in the surrounding regions, thereby constraining the precipitation of the γ′ and γ″ phases, resulting in the appearance of PFZ. With increasing stabilization time, the size increase and volume fraction decrease in γ′-γ″ co-precipitates due to the precipitation of η-phase precipitates, leading to a decrease in their yield strength. Combined with in situ tensile tests, it was found that the decrease in the elongation of the stabilization treatment samples was due to the presence of η phase at the grain boundaries, which induced stress concentration and cracking at the grain boundaries. The results show that the mechanical properties of the material were gradually enhanced as the stabilization time decreased. This means it can help to choose the suitable process for IN706 alloy in different service conditions.

In recent years, trade protectionism and unilateralism have prevailed, and countries around the world have imposed restrictions on log exports. It has also become more difficult for China to import wood resources and export deep-processed wood forest products. Based on panel data from 2000 to 2019, this study uses social network analysis to measure the level of the Chinese wood forest product trade network, takes the Chinese free trade agreements (FTAs) as the natural experiment, and uses the multi-stage double-difference method to investigate the impact of the signed FTAs on China’s wood forest product trade. The study finds that the trade network of Chinese wood forest products is becoming increasingly complex, and the central position of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the network is increasing year by year. The signing of FTAs has had a significant positive impact on the trade of wood forest products in China and a significant trade creation effect. This finding remains true after conducting the placebo test and propensity score-matched regression control. At the same time, the import of wood forest products in China will have a significant trade transfer effect due to the signing of FTAs, and this will not affect exports. Although FTAs show significant trade creation and trade transfer effects in China’s wood forest product trade, they also increase, to a certain extent, the mismatch of forest resources worldwide.

The electron beam cold hearth melting (EBCHM) process is one of the key processes for titanium alloy production. The unique characteristic of this pyrometallurgy process is the application of the cold hearth, which is responsible for controlling the Low-Density Inclusions (LDIs) and High-Density Inclusions (HDIs) in the melt. As a key process of inclusion removal, the information such as melt residence time in the cold hearth is directly related to the control of metallurgical defects in the ingot, and may also affect the composition distribution of the ingot. In this paper, the details for the physical phenomena, namely the evolution of the pool, the evolution of the flow, and the evolution of the component in the cold hearth during EBCHM are investigated using a modified multi-physical numerical model. The effects of melting temperature and melting speed on these phenomena were investigated. The purpose is to provide more fundamental knowledge and to further enhance the applications of EBCHM for more titanium alloys.

Deep sowing is an efficient strategy for maize to ensure the seedling emergence rate under adverse conditions such as drought or low temperatures. However, the genetic basis of deep-sowing tolerance-related traits in maize remains largely unknown. In this study, we performed a genome-wide association study on traits related to deep-sowing tolerance, including mesocotyl length (ML), coleoptile length (CL), plumule length (PL), shoot length (SL), and primary root length (PRL), using 255 maize inbred lines grown in three different environments. We identified 23, 6, 4, and 4 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with ML, CL, PL, and SL, respectively. By analyzing candidate genes within these QTLs, we found a γ-tubulin-containing complex protein, ZmGCP2, which was significantly associated with ML, PL, and SL. Loss of function of ZmGCP2 resulted in decreased PL, possibly by affecting the cell elongation, thus affecting SL. Additionally, we identified superior haplotypes and allelic variations of ZmGCP2 with a longer PL and SL, which may be useful for breeding varieties with deep-sowing tolerance to improve maize cultivation.

In this study, a highly efficient magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanocomposite material was prepared using multi-walled carbon nanotubes as carriers. The characterization of the obtained nanocomposite material was conducted using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, a vibrating sample magnetometer, a thermogravimetric analyzer, a scanning electron microscope, and a transmission electron microscope. The adsorption properties of the nanocomposite material were evaluated through adsorption experiments, including static adsorption, dynamic adsorption, and selective recognition studies. The prepared nanocomposite material, serving as a selective adsorbent, was applied in magnetic solid-phase extraction. Subsequently, the derivatized samples were analyzed for glucose in fish serum using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Under optimal conditions, the detection limit was 0.30 ng/mL, the quantitation limit was 0.99 ng/mL, satisfactory spiked recovery rates were obtained, and the relative standard deviation was less than 1.1%. Using 2-deoxy-D-ribose as the template molecule and a structural analog of glucose allowed us to eliminate the potential template leakage in qualitative and quantitative analyses, effectively avoiding the issues of false positives and potential quantitative errors, compared to traditional methods. A method for detecting glucose levels in fish serum based on molecularly imprinted polymer technology has been successfully developed to determine the stress and health levels of fish.

The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is one of the most commercially important crustacean species in China. The aim of this study was to characterize the toxic effects of butachlor (an herbicide of the acetanilide class) on juvenile E. sinensis crabs. The lethal effects and the acute toxicity of butachlor on juvenile E. sinensis specimens were assessed through a semi-static in vitro experiment. We determined the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) as well as the levels of glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the gills and the hepatopancreas of the juvenile crabs, at different time points over a 14-day short-term exposure to butachlor. Moreover, we measured the residual levels of butachlor in three different tissues (gills, hepatopancreas, and muscles) of the juvenile crabs over a longer period. Our findings revealed that butachlor is highly toxic for juvenile E. sinensis crabs. In fact, the median lethal concentration (LC50) values of butachlor at 24, 48, 72, and 96 h were found to be 4.22, 1.84, 0.34, and 0.14 mg/L, respectively, while the safe concentration was 0.014 mg/L. The antioxidant defense ability of the juvenile E. sinensis crabs against butachlor was induced after exposure to the herbicide at a concentration of 0.01 mg/L. After 14 days of exposure to butachlor at 0.04 and 0.16 mg/L, both SOD and CAT were found to be significantly inhibited (p < 0.05), the GSH levels were found to be significantly decreased (p < 0.05) and the MDA levels were identified as significantly increased (p < 0.05). Moreover, after 14 days of exposure to butachlor at 0.16 mg/L, the activities of SOD and CAT as well as the content of GSH in the hepatopancreas were found to be significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Our results revealed that a high concentration of butachlor was capable of inducing oxidative stress and damage in juvenile E. sinensis crabs. The maximal residual value of butachlor was obtained in the gills, with a content of 4.56 μg/kg. Butachlor was not detected after 24 days in the aforementioned three tissues of the juvenile crabs, thereby indicating that it was effectively metabolized.

Land use and land cover change (LUCC) prediction of cities in Western China requires higher accuracy in quantitative demand and spatial layout because of complex challenges in balancing relationships between urban constructions and ecological developments. Considering city-level areas and various types of land use and land cover, existing LUCC models without constraint or with only loose demand constraints were impractical in providing evidence of high accuracy and high-resolution predictions in areas facing fierce land competition. In this study, we proposed a two-layer SD-ANN-CA model to simulate and explore the LUCC trend and layout predictions for 2018, 2028, and 2038 in Ya’an City, Western China. The two-layer structure with an upper layer of the SD model and a lower layer of the ANN-CA model, as well as the advantages of all three methods of system dynamics (SD), artificial neural network (ANN), and cellular automata (CA), have allowed us to consider the macro-level demand constraints, meso-level driving factors constraints, and the micro-level spatial constraints into a unified model framework. The simulation results of the year 2018 have shown significant improvement in the accuracy of the ANN-CA model constructed in our earlier work, especially in types of forest land (error-accuracy: 0.08%), grassland (error-accuracy: 0.23%), and construction land (error-accuracy: 0.18%). The layout predictions of all six types of land use in 2028 and 2038 are then carried out to provide visual evidence support, which may improve the efficiency of planning and policy-making processes. Our work may also provide insights into new ways to combine quantitative methods into spatial methods in constructing city-level or even regional-level LUCC models with high resolution.

The degradation of farmland in China underscores the need for developing and utilizing saline-alkali soil. Soil health relies on microbial activity, which aids in the restoration of the land’s ecosystem, and hence it is important to understand microbial diversity. In the present study, two Gram-stain-positive strains HR 1-10T and J-A-003T were isolated from saline-alkali soil. Preliminary analysis suggested that these strains could be a novel species. Therefore, the taxonomic positions of these strains were evaluated using polyphasic analysis. Phylogenetic and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that these strains should be assigned to the genus Halalkalibacter. Cell wall contained meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid. The polar lipids present in both strains were diphosphatidyl-glycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and an unidentified phospholipid. The major fatty acids (>10%) were anteiso-C15:0, C16:0 and iso-C15:0. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA#x2013;DNA hybridization values were below the threshold values (95% and 70%, respectively) for species delineation. Based on the above results, the strains represent two novel species of the genus Halalkalibacter, for which the names Halalkalibacter flavus sp. nov., and Halalkalibacter lacteus sp. nov., are proposed. The type strains are HR 1-10T (=GDMCC 1.2946T = MCCC 1K08312T = JCM 36285T), and J-A-003T (=GDMCC 1.2949T = MCCC 1K08417T = JCM 36286T).

Collective movement has emerged as a key area of interest in animal behavior. While individual differences are often viewed as a potential threat to group cohesion, growing evidence suggests that these differences can actually influence an animal’s behavior as an initiator or follower during collective movements, thereby driving the group‘s movement and decision-making processes. To resolve the divergence, we asked how personality can affect the dynamics of collective movements in one group of free-ranging Tibetan macaques (Macaca thibetana) in Huangshan, China. We assessed individual personality using principal component analysis and applied the generalized linear mixed model and linear mixed model to examine the influence of personality on decision making during collective movements. Our findings reveled three distinct personality types among Tibetan macaques: sociability, boldness, and anxiousness. Individuals with higher sociability scores and rank, or those with lower anxiousness scores, were more likely to initiate successful collective movements. Older individuals were less successful in initiating movements compared to young adults. Leaders with lower anxiousness scores or higher rank attracted more followers, with females attracting larger groups than males. As for followers, individuals with higher rank tended to join the collective movement earlier. Additionally, individuals with higher sociability or boldness scores had shorter joining latency in collective movement. Finally, there was a longer joining latency for middle-aged adults compared to young adults. These results suggest that individual differences are a potential driver of collective movements. We provide some insights into the relationships between personality and decision making in Tibetan macaques.

Nontyphoidal Salmonella (NTS) is a cause of foodborne diarrheal diseases worldwide. Important emerging NTS serotypes that have spread as multidrug-resistant high-risk clones include S. Typhimurium monophasic variant and S. Kentucky. In this study, we isolated Salmonella in 5019 stool samples collected from patients with clinical diarrhea and 484 food samples. Antibiotic susceptibility testing and whole-genome sequencing were performed on positive strains. The detection rates of Salmonella among patients with diarrhea and food samples were 4.0% (200/5019) and 3.1% (15/484), respectively. These 215 Salmonella isolates comprised five main serotypes, namely S. Typhimurium monophasic variant, S. Typhimurium, S. London, S. Enteritidis, and S. Rissen, and were mainly resistant to ampicillin, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. The MDR rates of five major serotypes were 77.4%, 56.0%, 66.7%, 53.3%, and 80.0%, respectively. The most commonly acquired extended-spectrum β-lactamase-encoding genes were blaTEM−1B, blaOXA-10, and blaCTX-M-65. The S. Typhimurium monophasic variant strains from Jiaxing City belonged to a unique clone with broad antibiotic resistance. S. Kentucky isolates showed the highest drug resistance, and all were MDR strains. The discovery of high antibiotic resistance rates in this common foodborne pathogen is a growing concern; therefore, ongoing surveillance is crucial to effectively monitor this pathogen.

The dried Mume fructus (MF) is a special food and herbal medicine with a long history of processing and application. The browning index (BI) of Prunus mume (PM) is pivotal in determining the medicinal value and edible quality of MF. Exploring the BI of PM holds significant importance for both the selection of PM varieties and understanding the formation mechanism of high-quality MF. This study systematically analyzed the physicochemical properties, BI, and quality indicators of four PM varieties (Qingzhu Mei, Yesheng Mei, Nangao Mei, and Zhaoshui Mei) after processing into MF. The results showed significant differences in eight physicochemical indicators among the four PM varieties (p < 0.05). Notably, Qingzhu Mei exhibited the highest titratable acid content, Nangao Mei had the most prominent soluble solid and soluble sugar content, and Zhaoshui Mei showed outstanding performance in reducing sugar, soluble protein, and free amino acids. Regarding drying characteristics, Yesheng Mei and Nangao Mei required a shorter drying time. In terms of BI, Nangao Mei exhibited the greatest degree of browning and its color appearance was darker. When considering quality evaluation, Nangao Mei excelled in rehydration ability and extract content, while Zhaoshui Mei demonstrated outstanding levels of total phenols, total flavonoids, and total antioxidant capacity. Overall, the evaluation suggested that the Nangao Mei variety was more suitable for MF processing. These research results provide a valuable theoretical foundation for understanding the BI of PM varieties and serve as a reference for the selection of PM varieties as raw materials for processing MF.

Learning from work failures is not only beneficial for individual development but also crucial for improving organizational performance and achieving sustainable development. We hypothesize that leader bottom-line mentality, which is commonly used by leaders to prevent profit and performance losses, may reduce subordinates learning from work failures. Drawing on social information processing theory, this paper examines how and when leader bottom-line mentality negatively affects subordinates learning from work failures. We tested our hypotheses through a three-wave survey of 245 employees from several high-tech companies in China. For data analysis, we used SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.0 to test the theoretical model and research hypotheses. The results indicated that leader bottom-line mentality has a negative indirect effect on subordinates learning from work failures through the mediating role of subordinates’ psychological availability. In addition, subordinate self-compassion can mitigate this negative mediating mechanism. The present study has several theoretical and practical implications for the current literature.

Inorganic arsenic is a well-known carcinogen that is much more toxic than its organic counterpart. While much is known about the accumulation and transformation of arsenic in marine organisms, little is known regarding these processes in freshwater aquatic species. In this study, the acute toxicity and toxicological effects of inorganic arsenic on four freshwater organisms (Cyprinus carpio, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, Pseudorasbora parva, Eriocheir sinensis) commonly found in rice-fish farming systems were investigated. The organisms exhibited different levels of sensitivity to inorganic arsenic, with crustaceans being more sensitive than fish. Fish were found to be more tolerant to As(V) than As(III). The study also investigated the accumulation, transformation, and release of inorganic arsenic in crucian carp, an omnivorous species with high environmental tolerance. The fish accumulated As(III) rapidly in various tissues, and were able to transport it to other tissues through gills, intestines, and skin. The accumulated As(III) was converted into less toxic forms, such as monomethylarsonic acid (MMA) and dimethylarsinic acid (DMA), via methylation. The fish also converted As(III) into arsenate (AsV) via enzymatic and oxidative reactions. After the transferal to clean water, the forms of arsenic in the various tissues decreased rapidly, but the rates of excretion of the four forms of arsenic were not the same among the different tissues. Our results suggest that crucian carp can reduce the environmental toxicity of As(III) at certain concentrations by transforming it into less toxic forms within their bodies.

During the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition, a series of stratal continuous and well-preserved siliceous rock and phosphorite assemblages developed in Qingzhen, Guizhou Province, China, facilitating research on the biological evolution, marine chemistry, and palaeoecological environment of this period. Therefore, we investigated the paleontology, trace and rare earth elements, total organic carbon, total sulfur content, and Zn isotopes of the phosphorus-bearing rock series in the Taozichong Formation of the Cambrian period in Qingzhen. Geochemical analysis reveals that the sedimentary rocks in this area were formed in the oxygen-rich seawater environment and were not affected by high-temperature hydrothermal activity. The upwelling ocean current provided abundant rare earth elements and other nutrient elements, as well as conditions for the prosperity of biota in Qingzhen. In addition, the δ66Zn value (−0.21‰–0.41‰ range and 0.17‰ mean) in the Qingzhen phosphorous rock series was much lower than that in seawater, indicating a strong level of biological productivity. The variation trend of δ13C, δ18O, and δ66Zn exhibited four stages and three obvious drift events. The results suggest that climate change during this period led to the intermittent flourishing and extinction of organisms, which triggered the negative drift of δ13C and δ18O in the ocean, resulting in a coordinated response of δ66Zn. The unique ecological environment of the Taozichong Formation in Qingzhen also provides favorable conditions for the population continuation of Ediacaran-type benthic soft-bodied metazoon dominated by discoid fossils, Shaanxilithes, worm fossils, and sponge fossils in the Cambrian strata, as well as participation in the global biological explosion events. The study area provides new insights for rebuilding the global Ediacaran–Cambrian ecosystem during the transition period.

The application of microwave technology in mineral metallurgy is a transformative approach to ore processing that offers new ideas about the current progressive depletion of resources and the environmental impact of mineral processing. This review delves into the principles, applications, and future directions of microwave treatment in mineral and ore processing. Microwave technology, characterized by its unique advantages such as rapid and uniform heating, selective heating, and energy efficiency, stands in contrast to traditional heating methods. It directly interacts with materials at the molecular level, enabling volumetric heating. The review encompasses a wide range of applications, including ore pre-treatment, drying, mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, smelting, and reduction. It highlights the role of microwave treatment in enhancing metal recovery, reducing energy consumption, and improving processing speeds. Future research directions are identified, focusing on enhanced equipment design, process optimization, integration with conventional methods, and technological innovations. The comprehensive overview assists researchers, engineers, and decision-makers in understanding the potential of microwave technology in mineral metallurgy, emphasizing its contribution to innovation and sustainability in the sector.

The dried Mume Fructus (MF), called Wumei in China, is a unique food with medicinal and edible effects. But its actual production method is outdated with low efficiency and inconsistent quality. This study systematically investigated the influence of moisture content (MC), temperature, and relative humidity (RH) on the browning reaction and quality characteristics of the MF and proposed a continuous processing strategy of the three-stage variable process for MF production based on the precise process control of the temperature and the RH. The production process of MF was divided into three stages: preliminary dehydration, browning, and drying. The results showed that the browning reaction rate and drying efficiency were optimal when the MC of the raw materials was reduced to 50%. In the browning stage, the degree of browning was better, and the antioxidant capacity reached the maximum of 64.38 mg/g DM under a processing temperature of 80 °C and an RH of more than 60%. As the RH increased, the drying rate decreased, and the ash content exhibited an increase. Therefore, the optimal processing parameters for the browning stage were determined to be a temperature of 80 °C and an RH of 60%. In the final drying stage, a temperature of 60 °C coupled with a dehumidification mode proved sufficient to ensure efficient drying without compromising the quality of the MF. This study revealed the reaction mechanism of the rapid browning processing of MF, which has important guiding significance for the rapid processing of browning foods.

There are various health issues associated with the different stages of long-distance pipeline transportation. These issues pose potential risks to environmental pollution, resource waste, and the safety of human life and property. It is essential to have real-time knowledge of the overall health status of pipelines throughout their entire lifecycle. This article investigates various health-monitoring technologies for long-distance pipelines, providing references for addressing potential safety issues that may arise during long-term transportation. This review summarizes the factors and characteristics that affect pipeline health from the perspective of pipeline structure health. It introduces the principles of major pipeline health-monitoring technologies and their respective advantages and disadvantages. The review also focuses on the application of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology, specifically time and space continuous monitoring technology, in the field of pipeline structure health monitoring. This paper discusses the process of commercialization development of DAS technology, the main research progress in the experimental field, and the open research issues. DAS technology has broad application prospects in the field of long-distance transportation pipeline health monitoring.

The present study aimed to increase the content of minor ginsenosides and enhance the anti-colorectal cancer activity of ginsenosides via biotransformation by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum MB11 screened from fermented foods. A subcutaneous transplantation tumor model of murine colorectal cancer CT26 cells was established in mice to study the anticarcinogenic activities and mechanism of fermented total ginsenosides (FTGs). The results showed that L. plantarum MB11 fermentation increased the content of minor ginsenosides and decreased that of major ginsenosides. FTGs reduced the tumor weight and size compared with the model group. Immunofluorescence and TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) analysis showed that FTGs significantly increase the number of caspase-3 cells in tumor tissue and induce cell apoptosis. Mechanically, FTGs activate AMPK/mTOR autophagy pathway and regulate JAK2/STAT3 and Bax/Bcl-2/caspase-3 apoptosis pathway. Overall, fermentation with L. plantarum MB11 enhanced minor ginsenosides in total ginsenosides, and FTGs induced subcutaneous transplantation tumor autophagy and apoptosis in mice.

The physiological mechanisms of drought-stress response in Quercus acutissima were explored with the aim to develop potentially valuable drought-resistant species that are adapted to arid regions and barren mountains. Potting experiments of Q. acutissima that simulated drought-stress conditions, and morphological, physiological, photosynthetic, and ultrastructural changes were investigated at different stages of drought stress, including after rehydration and recovery. During drought stress and rewatering, the leaves exhibited yellowing and abscission, followed by the sprouting of new leaf buds. The relative water content (RWC) changed under the drought-rewatering treatment, with a decreasing and then increasing trend, while the relative electrical conductivity (REC) had a more gradual increasing and then decreasing trend. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT), and the proline (Pro) and soluble sugar (SS) contents increased and then decreased. The change in soluble protein (SP) content showed an N-shaped trend of increasing, decreasing, and then increasing again. The malondialdehyde (MDA) content decreased and then slowly increased. From the drought to recovery phase of the experiment, the net photosynthesis (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), and transpiration rate (Tr) decreased gradually at first, and then the Pn increased significantly, while the Gs and Tr increased slowly. During this period, the internal CO2 concentration (Ci) did not decrease significantly until the last stage of the drought treatment, and then it increased slowly thereafter. The open stomata count in the Q. acutissima leaves was reduced significantly as drought stress increased, but after rewatering, the stomata recovered rapidly, with their opening size increasing. The number of leaf epidermal trichomes gradually declined to a low count in response to drought stress, but it rapidly recovered and increased within a short period of time after rehydration. Q. acutissima was found to have a strong drought tolerance and recovery ability after exposure to drought stress, and it may be an effective pioneer species for reforestation in barren lands.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the deadliest malignant tumour worldwide. The metalloproteinase ADAM17 is associated with tumour formation and development; however, its significance in HCC is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role of ADAM17 in HCC and the correlation between its expression and immune cell infiltration. ADAM17 expression was analysed in pan-cancer and HCC tissues using The Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression datasets. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis displayed a negative association between ADAM17 expression and the overall survival of patients with HCC. High ADAM17 expression was linked to poor tumour/node (T/N) stage and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) levels. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, Gene Ontology, and Kyoto Encyclopaedia of Genes and Genomes analyses revealed the enrichment of several pathways, including epithelial–mesenchymal transition, inflammatory response, Hedgehog, and KRAS signalling, in patients with upregulated ADAM17. ADAM17 was shown to be positively correlated with immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoint expression via the Tumour Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) database and immunohistochemistry analyses. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis revealed that ADAM17 plays a core role in cancer development and immune evasion. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that ADAM17 influences HCC growth and metastasis. In conclusion, ADAM17 is upregulated in most cancers, particularly HCC, and is critical in the development and immune evasion of HCC.

Precipitation is an essential element in earth system research, which greatly benefits from the emergence of Satellite Precipitation Products (SPPs). Therefore, assessment of the accuracy of the SPPs is necessary both scientifically and practically. The Integrated Multi-Satellite Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) is one of the most widely used SPPs in the scientific community. However, there is a lack of comprehensive evaluation for the performance of the newly released IMERG Version 07, which is essential for determining its effectiveness and reliability in precipitation estimation. In this study, we compare the IMERG V07 Final Run (V07_FR) with its predecessor IMERG V06_FR across scales from January 2016 to December 2020 over the globe (cross-compare their similarities and differences) and a focused study on mainland China (validate against 2481 rain gauges). The results show that: (1) Globally, the annual mean precipitation of V07_FR increases 2.2% compared to V06_FR over land but decreases 5.8% over the ocean. The two SPPs further exhibit great differences as indicated by the Critical Success Index (CSI = 0.64) and the Root Mean Squared Difference (RMSD = 3.42 mm/day) as compared to V06_FR to V07_FR. (2) Over mainland China, V06_FR and V07_FR detect comparable precipitation annually. However, the Probability of Detection (POD) improves by 5.0%, and the RMSD decreases by 3.7% when analyzed by grid cells. Further, the POD (+0%~+6.1%) and CSI (+0%~+8.8%) increase and the RMSD (−11.1%~0%) decreases regardless of the sub-regions. (3) Under extreme rainfall rates, V07_FR measures 4.5% lower extreme rainfall rates than V06_FR across mainland China. But V07_FR tends to detect more accurate extreme precipitation at both daily and event scales. These results can be of value for further SPP development, application in climatological and hydrological modeling, and risk analysis.

With the rapid growth of internet traffic, the traditional host-to-host TCP/IP architecture is subject to many service limitations faced with content-oriented applications. Various novel network architectures have been proposed to solve these limitations, among which Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is one of the most prominent. ICN features the decoupling of content (service) from the physical devices storing (providing) it through location-independent naming, and offers inherent enhancement to network performance, such as multicast and in-network caching. ICN in-network caching has been extensively studied, and we believe that it may also be the main incentive for ISPs to deploy ICN. A CDN (content delivery network) is a typical content-oriented network paradigm that aims to provide the fast delivery of content. In this paper, we leverage the advantages of the in-network caching of ICN to enhance the content delivery efficiency of CDN by integrating ICN as a service. First, we present our design of a content delivery network enhanced with ICN, called IECDN. Additionally, we formulate a mathematical model to optimize the performance of our proposed design and conduct a series of evaluations. The results indicate that our proposed design provides significant performance gains while reducing bandwidth consumption and shows better resilience to traffic surge.

If a bridge is subjected to a blast load when there is vehicle traffic, not only its own safety is threatened, but it can also lead to damage to vehicles. In addition, the coupling of a vehicle load and an explosion load may further aggravate the impact of an explosion. To understand the coupling relationship between the two kinds of loads on a bridge, a static load was applied on the bridge using the impact coefficient while a blast load was applied on the outside of the bridge. A numerical simulation was also used to further study the coupling effect of the vehicle load and the explosion load. The results showed that the vehicle load could effectively limit the vertical deformation. The numerical model was accurate in predicting the response process of the stiffened beam. With the coupling of the vehicle load, the equivalent plastic strain of the box multistage stiffened beam was mainly concentrated at the hinge and decreased when the blast loading remained constant. The transverse anti-blast performance of the stiffened beam was mainly provided by the bridge web and the diaphragm under the coupling effect of the vehicle load and the blasting load, but the function of the diaphragm was weakened. Additionally, the hinge used as a connector was able to directly affect the bearing capacity of the bridge. Even if the hinge was only slightly damaged, it could cause the bridge to enter the failure stage, meaning that the strength of the hinge must be greater than that of the bridge.

Currently, an increasing number of designers have begun to pay attention to a new paradigm for evaluating the performance with full engine 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (3D CFD) simulations. Compared with the traditional component-based performance simulation method component-based performance simulation method (‘component-matched’ method), this novel ‘component-coupled’ method can evaluate the overall performance of the engine more physically and obtain more detailed flow field parameters simultaneously. Importantly, the power balance iteration should be introduced to the novel method to satisfy the constraints of the coaxial components for the gas turbine engine at steady state. By carrying out the ‘component-matched’ simulation and the ‘component-coupled’ simulation for a micro turbojet engine, the necessity of introducing the power balance iteration was discussed in this paper. The influence of steady-state co-working constraints on the engine performance was analysed and strategies for power balance iteration were proposed. To verify the capability and feasibility of this method, not only the co-working state but also the windmill state of the gas turbine engine were simulated by using the 3D CFD method considering power balance iteration. The results show that the power balance strategy proposed in this paper can converge the aerodynamic parameters as well as the power residual in a robust way.

A multi-mesh trammel net has been developed and used for sampling freshwater fishes. However, little is known about the catch efficiency of the net. This research investigated the catch efficiency of a multi-mesh trammel net (nominal mesh size; 10.0, 30.0, 50.0, and 70.0 mm) for fish sampling in the Yangtze River of China. Catch composition and factors affecting catch per unit effort based on fish number (CPUEN), weight (CPUEW), and species number (CPUES) were analyzed. The results showed that the net was capable of capturing a wide range of fish sizes (total length, 5.5 to 121.0 cm) and species (n = 50). Increasing soak time from 9.4 to 24.0 h resulted in a decrease in CPUEN and CPUEW while a longer soak time increased CPUES. CPUEN, CPUEW, and CPUES varied significantly with fishing locations. The net provides a potential complement to the current fish sampling techniques used in freshwater ecosystems (e.g., large rivers, lakes, and reservoirs). The findings of this research help to improve our understanding of the catch efficiency of the multi-mesh trammel net and provides insight into better designs for gears and methods for sampling diverse fish sizes and species.

Environmental vibration pollution has serious negative impacts on human health. Among the various contributors to environmental vibration pollution in urban areas, rail transit vibration stands out as a significant source. Consequently, addressing this issue and finding effective measures to attenuate rail transit vibration has become a significant area of concern. An infilled trench can be arranged periodically along the propagation paths of the waves in the soil to attenuate vibration waves in a specific frequency range. However, the periodic infilled trench seems to be unsatisfactory for providing wide band gaps at low and medium frequencies. To improve the isolation performance of wave barriers at low to medium frequencies, a buried PT-WIB consisting of a periodic infilled trench and a wave impedance block barrier has been proposed in this paper. A three-dimensional finite element model has been developed to evaluate the isolation performance of three wave barriers. The influence of the PT-WIB’s parameters on isolation performance has been analyzed. The results indicate that the combined properties of the periodic structure and the wave impedance block barrier can effectively achieve a wide attenuation zone at low and medium frequencies, enhancing the isolation performance for mitigating environmental vibration pollution.

The tunable optical pulling force on a graded plasmonic core-shell nanoparticle consisting of a gain dielectric core and graded plasmonic shell is investigated in the illumination of a plane wave. In this paper, the electrostatic polarizability and the equivalent permittivity of the core-shell sphere are derived and the plasmonic enhanced optical pulling force in the antibonding and bonding dipole modes of the graded nanoparticle are demonstrated. Additionally, the resonant pulling force occurring on the dipole mode is shown to be dependent on the aspect ratio of the core-shell particle, which is illustrated by the obtained equivalent permittivity. This shows that the gradation of the graded shell will influence the plasmonic feature of the particle, thus further shifting the resonant optical force peaks and strengthening the pulling force. The obtained results provide an additional degree of freedom to manipulate nanoparticles and give a deep insight into light–matter interaction.

Improving the income and assets of forest farmers is the basis for realizing the sustainable development of forestry. In this paper, we tested the impact of membership in herbal medicine planting cooperatives on forest farmer household income and assets using the propensity score matching (PSM) method and household surveys of the study area. The results showed that cooperative membership can greatly improve forest farmer household income and assets; the higher the accumulation of forest farmer household social capital and human capital, the more farmers were inclined to participate in cooperatives. Householders who were migrant workers were more likely to make the decision to participate in cooperatives compared with those without migrant work experiences. The results of ATT further verified the conclusion that cooperative membership can significantly improve income and assets, which increased by 7.04% and 4.19%, respectively. In addition, according to the survey, the current development of cooperatives in the forestry area experienced problems such as inconsistent quantitative and qualitative development, insufficient driving force, irregular operating mode, inaccurate policy support, and inadequate guidance mechanisms. This paper focused on innovating cooperation mechanisms, enriching joint forms, enhancing driving capacity, stimulating internal driving forces, strengthening system construction, improving standards, enhancing guidance services, and strengthening institutional guarantees. These recommendations have been put forward to guide policy for sustainable forest development.

Intestinal diseases have always posed a serious threat to human health, with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) being one of them. IBD is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation, including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). The “alarm” cytokine IL-33, which is intimately associated with Th2 immunity, is a highly potent inflammatory factor that is considered to have dual functions—operating as both a pro-inflammatory cytokine and a transcriptional regulator. IL-33 has been shown to play a crucial role in both the onset and development of IBD. Therefore, this review focuses on the pathogenesis of IBD, the major receptor cell types, and the activities of IL-33 in innate and adaptive immunity, as well as its underlying mechanisms and conflicting conclusions in IBD. We have also summarized different medicines targeted to IL-33-associated diseases. Furthermore, we have emphasized the role of IL-33 in gastrointestinal cancer and parasitic infections, giving novel prospective therapeutic utility in the future application of IL-33.

To avoid resource waste and environmental pollution, a chain of ErOx-boosted MnOx-modified biochars derived from rice straw and sewage sludge (EryMn1-y/BACs, where biochars derived from rice straw and sewage sludge were defined as BACs) were manufactured for formaldehyde (HCHO) elimination. The optimal 15%Er0.5Mn0.5/BAC achieved a 97.2% HCHO removal efficiency at 220 °C and exhibited favorable EHCHO and thermal stability in a wide temperature window between 180 and 380 °C. The curbed influences of H2O and SO2 offset the boosting effect of O2 in a certain range. Er–Mn bimetallic-modified BACs offered a superior HCHO removal performance compared with that of BACs boosted using Er or Mn separately, owing to the synergistic effect of ErOx and MnOx conducive to improving the samples’ total pore volume and surface area, surface active oxygen species, promoting redox ability, and inhibiting the crystallization of MnOx. Moreover, the support’s hierarchical porous structure not only expedited the diffusion and mass transfer of reactants and their products but also elevated the approachability of adsorption and catalytic sites. Notably, these prominent features were partly responsible for the outstanding performance and excellent tolerance to H2O and SO2. Using in situ DRIFTS characterization analysis, it could be inferred that the removal process of HCHO was HCHOad → dioxymethylene (DOM) → formate species → CO2 + H2O, further enhanced with reactive oxygen species. The DFT calculation once again proved the removal process of HCHO and the strengthening effect of Er doping. Furthermore, the optimal catalytic performance of 15%Er0.5Mn0.5/BAC demonstrated its vast potential for practical applications.

To cope with the explosive increase in electromagnetic radiation intensity caused by the widespread use of electronic information equipment, high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW)-absorbing materials that can adapt to various frequency bands of EMW are also facing great demand. In this paper, CH3NH3PbI3/graphene (MG) high-performance EMW-absorbing materials were innovatively synthesized by taking organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite (OIHP) with high equilibrium holes, electron mobility, and accessible synthesis as the main body, graphene as the intergranular component, and adjusting the component ratio. When the component ratio was 16:1, the thickness of the absorber was 1.87 mm, and MG’s effective EMW absorption width reached 6.04 GHz (11.96–18.00 GHz), achieving complete coverage of the Ku frequency band. As the main body of the composite, CH3NH3PbI3 played the role of the polarization density center, and the defects and vacancies in the crystal significantly increased the polarization loss intensity; graphene, as a typical two-dimensional material distributed in the crystal gap, built an efficient electron transfer channel, which significantly improved the electrical conductivity loss strength. This work effectively broadened the EMW absorption frequency band of OIHP and promoted the research process of new EMW-absorbing materials based on OIPH.

(1) Background: Depression is the most prevalent psychiatric symptom present among individuals of all ages and backgrounds, impacting an estimated 300 million people globally. Therefore, it demands a significant amount of attention when it comes to managing depression. A growing amount of data reveal that probiotics and fatty acids could be beneficial to depression. However, the opposing position maintains that they have no influence on depression. A network meta-analyses of existing datasets aid in the estimation of comparative efficacy as well as in achieving an understanding of the relative merits of different therapies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the current evidence for probiotic or fatty acid depression therapy and to establish a practical alternative for depression patients using a meta-analysis and metagenomic data from a Wistar–Kyoto (WKY) depressed rat model. (2) Methods: Probiotic data were obtained from seven randomized controlled trial studies (n = 394), and fatty acid data were obtained from 24 randomized controlled trial studies (n = 1876). Meanwhile, a metagenomics analysis of data on animal gut flora was also applied to validate the preceding evidence. (3) Results: The fatty acid studies were separated into three sections based on the duration of probiotic delivery: ≤8 weeks, 9–12 weeks, and >12 weeks. The results were as follows: for ≤8 weeks, MD = −1.65 (95% CI: −2.96–−0.15), p = 0.01; for 9–12 weeks, MD = −2.22 (95% CI: −3.03–−1.22), p < 0.001; for >12 weeks, MD = −1.23 (95% CI: −2.85–0.39), p = 0.14. Regarding the probiotics, the meta-analysis revealed MD = −2.19 (95% CI: −3.38–−2.43), p < 0.001. The research presented herein illustrates that probiotics and fatty acids may successfully lower depression scores. Additionally, the probiotics were drastically reduced in the WKY rats. (4) Conclusions: According to the data, a depression intervention utilizing probiotics outperformed the control, implying that the use of probiotics and fatty acids may be a successful strategy for depression treatment.

We theoretically and numerically investigate the temporal dynamics of a nanodimer system consisting of a pair of graphene-wrapped dielectric nanospheres with tunable radii. Considering that symmetry breaks on resonant frequencies, we derive the temporal kinetic equations in an asymmetric form by utilizing the dispersion relation method in dipole limit. The bifurcation diagrams achieved via the analysis on the linear instability and numerical solutions can quantitatively characterize the complex coexistences of stationary and dynamical behaviors in this dimer system, and the asymmetry apparently can increase the number of regimes with the periodic self-oscillation state or chaos. Furthermore, we find that the indefinite switching not only can be triggered among the stationary steady solutions, but it also universally exists among all the possible solutions in a coexistent regime. The switching can be tuned by applying a hard excitation signal with different durations and saturation values. Our results may provide new paths to realize a nonlinear nanophotonic device with tunable dynamical responses or even multi-functionalities.

In order to predict the settlement of self-compacting solidified soil in foundation pit backfilling, finite element software is used to study the influence of soil properties and the surrounding structural properties of the foundation pit on the settlement of backfilled self-compacting solidified soil based on a foundation pit project in the city of Nanjing. The degree of influence of various factors influencing settlement is considered, a grey relational grade analysis is conducted, and input layer parameters of the neural network are determined based on the results of the grey relational grade analysis. Based on the GA-BP neural network model, the settlement of soil is predicted using numerical simulation results. The results reveal that the settlement and structural disturbance of self-compacting solidified soil after backfilling are smaller than those of fine silty sand; self-compacting solidified soil significantly improves the engineering performance of excavated soil. In the grey relational grade analysis, the six influencing factors that have high correlation with soil settlement can be used as input layer parameters for the neural network model. Among them, the correlation degree between elastic modulus and soil settlement is the highest, reaching 0.8402. The correlation degrees of the remaining five influencing factors are above 0.5, and the values are close. The GA-BP neural network can improve the overfitting situation of a BP neural network trapped in local optima, with R2 reaching 0.9999 and RMSE only 0.0018 mm, achieving high-precision prediction of settlement of self-compacting solidified soil.

To study the dynamic mechanical properties and damage evolution mechanism of Beishan deep granite under medium and high strain rates, dynamic mechanical tests for the deep granite specimens with different strain rates were conducted using the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) device. The improved Zhu–Wang–ang (ZWT) dynamic constitutive model was established, and the relationship between strain rate and strain energy was investigated. The test results show that the strain rate in the dynamic load test is closer to the strain rate in the rock blasting state when the uniaxial SHPB test is applied to the granite specimens in a low ground stress state. Peak stress has a linear correlation with strain rate, and the dynamic deformation modulus of the Beishan granite is 152.58 GPa. The dissipation energy per unit volume and the energy ratio increase along with the strain rate, whereas the dissipation energy per unit volume increases exponentially along with the strain rate. There is a consistent relationship between the damage degree of granite specimens and the dissipation energy per unit volume, which correspond to one another, but there is no one-to-one correspondence between the damage degree of granite specimens and the strain rate. To consider the damage and obtain the damage discount factor for the principal structure model, the principal structure of the element combination model was improved and simplified using the ZWT dynamic constitutive model. The change of damage parameters with strain rate and strain was obtained, and the dynamic damage evolution equation of Beishan granite was established by considering the damage threshold.

Due to the detrimental impact of steel industry emissions on the environment, countries worldwide prioritize green development. Replacing sintered iron ore with pellets holds promise for emission reduction and environmental protection. As high-grade iron ore resources decline, research on limonite pellet technology becomes crucial. However, pellets undergo rigorous mechanical actions during production and use. This study prepared a series of limonite pellet samples with varying ratios and measured their compressive strength. The influence of humic acid on the compressive strength of green and indurated pellets was explored. The results indicate that humic acid enhances the strength of green pellets but reduces that of indurated limonite pellets, which exhibit lower compressive strength compared to bentonite-based pellets. Furthermore, artificial neural networks (ANN) predicted the compressive strength of humic acid and bentonite-based pellets, establishing the relationship between input variables (binder content, pellet diameter, and weight) and output response (compressive strength). Integrating pellet technology and machine learning drives limonite pellet advancement, contributing to emission reduction and environmental preservation.

Understanding the mechanisms of responses to high temperatures in Arabidopsis will provide insights into how plants may mitigate heat stress under global climate change. And exploring the interconnections of different modification levels in heat stress response could help us to understand the molecular mechanism of heat stress response in Arabidopsis more comprehensively and precisely. In this paper, we combined multiomics analyses to explore the common heat stress-responsive genes and specific heat-responsive metabolic pathways in Arabidopsis leaf, seedling, and seed tissues. We found that genes such as AT1G54050 play a role in promoting proper protein folding in response to HS (Heat stress). In addition, it was revealed that the binding profile of A1B is altered under elevated temperature conditions. Finally, we also show that two microRNAs, ath-mir156h and ath-mir166b-5p, may be core regulatory molecules in HS. Also elucidated that under HS, plants can regulate specific regulatory mechanisms, such as oxygen levels, by altering the degree of CHH methylation.

The spin–orbit interaction of light is universal in the process of light scattering, and an important aspect is the spin Hall effect. The spin Hall effect of light also exists in a three-dimensional (3D) system. When circularly polarized light is incident on a spherical particle, the transverse displacement of the particle relative to the scattering plane can be observed due to the spiraling of the Poynting vector in the far field. In general, the spin Hall shift of light is negligible and difficult to detect in experiments. In this paper, we use a high-refractive-index (HRI) core-shell structure to excite high-order multipoles and explore the interaction between different order multipoles to enhance the spin Hall shift in the microwave band. We show that there exist some angles that increase the spin Hall shift when two particular multipoles are equal and dominated. Our work provides a new perspective for understanding the interaction between light and particles and enhances the spin Hall shift of the sphere in the microwave band.

C-type lectins (CTLs) are a class of proteins containing carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs), which are characteristic modules that recognize various glycoconjugates and function primarily in immunity. CTLs have been reported to affect growth and development and positively regulate innate immunity in Tribolium castaneum. However, the regulatory mechanisms of TcCTL16 proteins are still unclear. Here, spatiotemporal analyses displayed that TcCTL16 was highly expressed in late pupae and early adults. TcCTL16 RNA interference in early larvae shortened their body length and narrowed their body width, leading to the death of 98% of the larvae in the pupal stage. Further analysis found that the expression level of muscle-regulation-related genes, including cut, vestigial, erect wing, apterous, and spalt major, and muscle-composition-related genes, including Myosin heavy chain and Myosin light chain, were obviously down-regulated after TcCTL16 silencing in T. castaneum. In addition, the transcription of TcCTL16 was mainly distributed in the hemolymph. TcCTL16 was significantly upregulated after challenges with lipopolysaccharides, peptidoglycans, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. Recombinant CRDs of TcCTL16 bind directly to the tested bacteria (except Bacillus subtilis); they also induce extensive bacterial agglutination in the presence of Ca2+. On the contrary, after TcCTL16 silencing in the late larval stage, T. castaneum were able to develop normally. Moreover, the transcript levels of seven antimicrobial peptide genes (attacin2, defensins1, defensins2, coleoptericin1, coleoptericin2, cecropins2, and cecropins3) and one transcription factor gene (relish) were significantly increased under E. coli challenge and led to an increased survival rate of T. castaneum when infected with S. aureus or E. coli, suggesting that TcCTL16 deficiency could be compensated for by increasing AMP expression via the IMD pathways in T. castaneum. In conclusion, this study found that TcCTL16 could be involved in developmental regulation in early larvae and compensate for the loss of CTL function by regulating the expression of AMPs in late larvae, thus laying a solid foundation for further studies on T. castaneum CTLs.

Solar collectors are more efficient and commercial devices for collecting solar energy, compared to other solar energy utilizations. To improve the efficiency of solar collectors, it is important to prepare a liquid heat-collecting medium, which is stable and has high photothermal properties. Therefore, in this work, we develop a droplet–droplet mixing technique to prepare Fe3O4-H2O magnetic nanofluid. The results show that magnetic nanofluids prepared using the droplet–droplet mixing technique have more stable performance and a better encapsulation of dispersants than those prepared via traditional liquid–liquid mixing. Then, the thermal conductivity and photothermal properties of Fe3O4-H2O magnetic nanofluids are investigated experimentally and theoretically. The thermal conductivity and temperature of the magnetic nanofluid with Fe3O4 nanoparticles of a 1.0% volume fraction can reach the maximum value of 0.95 W/m∙K and 73.9 °C when the magnetic field strength is equal to the saturation magnetic field of 800 Gs. These findings provide insights into the potential applications of Fe3O4-H2O magnetic nanofluids in direct absorption solar collectors, heat exchangers, automobile radiators, etc.

Damage is the main form of conflict, and the characterization of damage information is an important component of conflict evaluation. In the existing research, damage mainly refers to the damage effect of a damage load on the target structure. However, in the actual conflict environment, damage is a complex process that includes the entire process from the initial introduction of the damage load to the target function. Therefore, in this paper, the transfer logic of the damage process is analyzed, and the damage process is sequentially divided into being discovered, being attacked, being hit, and being destroyed in succession. Specifically, first considering the multiple types of each process, the transmission of damage is likened to the flow of damage, a network model to characterize damage information based on heterogeneous network meta-path and network flow theory (HF-MCDI) is established. Then, the characteristics of damage information are analyzed based on the capacity of the damage network, the correlation of the damage path, and the importance of the damage node. In addition, HF-MCDI can not only represent the complete damage information and the transmission characteristics of the damage load but also the structural characteristics of the target. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the established HF-MCDI method are fully demonstrated by the example analysis of the launch platform.

Plants have evolved diverse strategies to accommodate saline environments. More insights into the knowledge of salt stress regulatory pathways will benefit crop breeding. RADICAL-INDUCED CELL DEATH 1 (RCD1) was previously identified as an essential player in salt stress response. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Here, we unraveled that Arabidopsis NAC domain-containing protein 17 (ANAC017) acts downstream of RCD1 in salt stress response, and its ER-to-nucleus transport is triggered by high salinity. Genetic and biochemical evidence showed that RCD1 interacts with transmembrane motif-truncated ANAC017 in the nucleus and represses its transcriptional activity. Transcriptome analysis revealed that genes associated with oxidation reduction process and response to salt stress are similarly dysregulated in loss-of-function rcd1 and gain-of-function anac017-2 mutants. In addition, we found that ANAC017 plays a negative role in salt stress response by impairing the superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme activity. Taken together, our study uncovered that RCD1 promotes salt stress response and maintains ROS homeostasis by inhibiting ANAC017 activity.
