In this study, we aimed to explore the hypoglycemic effects of a hydrolysate on Takifugu bimaculatus skin (TBSH). The effect of the dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory activities from different TBSH fractions was investigated on basic indexes, gut hormones, blood lipid indexes, viscera, and the gut microbiota and its metabolites in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that the 50 = 0.45 ± 0.01 mg/mL). T2DM rats were induced with streptozocin, followed by the administration of TBP. The 200 mg/kg TBP mitigated weight loss, lowered fasting blood glucose levels, and increased insulin secretion by 20.47%, 25.23%, and 34.55%, respectively, rectified irregular hormonal fluctuations, lipid metabolism, and tissue injuries, and effectively remedied gut microbiota imbalance. In conclusion, TBP exerts a hypoglycemic effect in rats with T2DM. This study offers the potential to develop nutritional supplements to treat T2DM and further promote the high-value utilization of processing byproducts from T. bimaculatus. It will provide information for developing nutritional supplements to treat T2DM and further promote the high-value utilization of processing byproducts from T. bimaculatus.

In this paper, a time-varying delay output feedback control method based on the potential barrier function is proposed, which can solve the communication delay and field-of-view (FOV) constraints of Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) clusters when communicating with ultra-wide-angle cameras. First, a second-order oscillator and an output feedback controller are utilized to feed back the position and direction of neighboring vehicles by exchanging control quantities and to solve the time-varying delay in the position computation of the ultra-wide-angle camera. Due to the limited target radiation range perceived by the camera, an FOV-constrained potential function is adopted to optimize the design of the sliding mode surface. The stability of the closed-loop control system is analyzed by applying the Lyapunov method. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the consensus scheme in addressing the communication delay and FOV constraint problem under two different initial conditions.

Stick–slip vibration (SV) of drill string systems is the main cause of fatigue failure of PDC bits under complex drilling conditions. Exploring its mechanism is helpful for identifying the causes of bit failure and developing preventive measures to prolong bit service life. In this study, the influence of various factors on torque characteristics is tested by drilling rock breaking with various PDC bits and the variations in torsion variables and torsion speed of drill string systems under different torque loading conditions of drill bits are ascertained. Through a finite element simulation of the drill string–bit system, the influence of the PDC bit on the torsional deformation with variable torque is determined, and the influence mechanisms of bit size, tooth structure, invasion depth, rock strength, and other factors on the SV induced by a PDC bit are established. The results show that the change in the reaction resistance moment of the formation rock leads to variation in the driving speed of the drill string system, which is one of the main reasons for the SV. Even if the torque change in the bit is minor, SV will occur if the drill string is too long.

It is desirable to recycle sewage sludge as fertilizer for agricultural fields. The application of sludge to agricultural soils is a measure that replaces chemical fertilizers and plays an important role in improving soil’s physicochemical and biological properties. However, there are concerns that the pollutants in sewage sludge will cause negative impacts on soil health. To closely monitor the soil–sludge interactions, a field study was conducted over a 20-year period in the North China Plain. In this study, the long-term effects of sewage sludge on the soil properties and soil microbial diversity were investigated. We examined the effects of various fertilization methods (control, chemical fertilizer, uncomposted sludge fertilizer, composted sludge fertilizer) on wheat production and several soil health indicators, such as the soil’s enzymatic activities, microbial biomass, microbial diversity, and crop yield. This long-term experiment supports that the composted sludge fertilizer increased crop production by 124.2% compared to the control treatment. The soil’s biological quality (e.g., the concentration of soil microbial biomass carbon) was also improved under the composted sludge fertilizer treatment. The concentrations of soil microbial biomass carbon under the uncomposted sludge fertilizer and composted sludge fertilizer treatments were 560.07 mg/kg and 551.07 mg/kg, respectively. The effect of the composted sludge fertilizer was greater than that of the uncomposted sludge fertilizer. The content of heavy metals did not exceed the national standard. The highest soil health index was 0.79 with the composted sludge fertilizer. Therefore, these results suggest that the application of composted sludge fertilizer has the potential to enhance long-term soil health and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

To accurately and non-destructively monitor the growth of spring wheat in the Hetao irrigation area, UAV remote sensing was employed during various fertility stages. Digital image indices from diverse fertilization treatments were calculated and compared with physiological indices to identify the most sensitive digital image indices corresponding to these indices. The study underscored the critical importance of the flowering stage in the growth of spring wheat, thus highlighting the necessity of focusing on this stage. This finding reiterated that the flowering stage was pivotal for spring wheat development in the Hetao Irrigation Area. Several digital image indices, such as GLA, R, G, INT, g, GRVI, MGRVI, RGBVI, EXG, and GRRI, exhibited a high frequency of significant correlations with physiological indices during the four primary reproductive stages of wheat. Consequently, these sensitive digital image indices during the flowering stage can more effectively characterize the physiological indices of spring wheat.

Ecological stoichiometry (ES) is an important index that reflects the balance of various elements in ecological processes. Therefore, it is of great significance to understand the soil nutrient cycle to clarify the environmental control of soil carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K). In this study, we analyzed the spatial distribution of soil C, N, P, and K contents and the C:N:P:K stoichiometric characteristics of 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm of farmland and grassland in four agro-pastoral areas in Inner Mongolia. Spearman correlation was used to analyze the effects of environmental factors on the soil C:N:P:K stoichiometric relationship. The results showed that there was no fixed Redfield ratio for the soil stoichiometric relationship of farmland and grassland in Inner Mongolia, and the values were 15:2:1:9 to 145:10:1:26 and 25:1:1:29 to 228:15:1:65, respectively. The stoichiometric relationships between farmland and grassland were consistent with the law of geographical and spatial heterogeneity. The ratios of C:N, C:P, C:K, N:P, and N:K showed an N distribution from west to east, while the ratio of P:K showed a V distribution. The stoichiometric relationships in grassland soil were mainly affected by soil organic carbon and total nitrogen content, while those in farmland were mainly affected by total nitrogen and total phosphorus content. The annual mean precipitation has a significant effect on stoichiometric relationships in farmland, while the annual mean temperature has a more significant effect on grassland. In conclusion, the spatial distribution difference in the soil stoichiometric relationship in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia was more significant than the difference in the land use pattern. The influences of annual mean temperature and annual mean precipitation on soil ecological stoichiometry were in accordance with the geographical spatial similarity law. Compared with grassland, the stoichiometric relationship of farmland soil was greatly affected by fertilization, and farmland in this region was mainly limited by carbon and nitrogen. Thus, field management should be carried out according to local conditions. This study is of great significance as it promotes the rational utilization of land resources and the sustainable development of agriculture.

The nutrient utilization rate of salinized farmland soils is low, the nitrogen loss is high, and soil salinity inhibits the hydrolysis of urea and the release of nutrients. In this work, the effect of microbial fertilizer on the nitrogen transformation characteristics and nitrogen morphology of salinized soils was studied using indoor constant temperature incubation tests with different nitrogen application rates—without (A0) and with microbial fertilizer application (A1 (15 t/ha)) or nitrogen application (N) of 0 kg/ha (N0), 97.5 kg/ha (N1), or 195 kg/ha (N2). The results show the following: (i) When no microbial fertilizer was applied, an increased nitrogen application promoted nitrogen fertilizer’s ammonification and nitrification reactions. Furthermore, the maximum net nitrification rate with the high nitrogen fertilizer application decreased; the apparent ammonification rate and net ammonification rate A0N2 increased by 26.1% and 24.6%, respectively, compared with A0N1 on the first day of incubation; the maximum net nitrification rate of A0N1 was more than that of A0N2; and A0N1 > A0N2 on day 3, while A0N2 > A0N1 on days 3 to 15. At 3 d, the nitrogen conversion process of A0N1 was dominated by the nitrification reaction, while the ammonification reaction dominated in A0N2. (ii) Microbial fertilizers significantly increased the ammonification and nitrification rates under the low N fertilizer application. The intensity of ammonification and nitrification under the low N fertilizer application was greater than that under the high N fertilizer application. The apparent ammonification rate and net ammonification rate of A1N1 increased by 60.9% and 52.6% compared with A0N1 and 21.9% and 21.7% compared with A1N2 on the first day of incubation, and the peak net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 (28.19 mg/kg d and 11.02 mg/kg d, respectively) and net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 were 113.7% higher than those of A0N1. The net nitrification rates of A1N1 and A1N2 were 82.3% and 58.6% lower than the maximum net nitrification rates on the 15th day of incubation, respectively. (iii) In saline soils, low-nitrogen microbial fertilizers led to more ammonium nitrogen in the soil, and the high-nitrogen fertilizer application resulted in higher nitrate nitrogen in the soil, leading to nitrogen leaching. Therefore, when applying microbial fertilizer, choosing the most suitable period for reduced chasing is important for the efficient use of fertilizers, the alternative role of biofertilizers, and the study of environmental pollution.

Trunk recognition is a critical technology for Camellia oleifera fruit harvesting robots, as it enables accurate and efficient detection and localization of vibration or picking points in unstructured natural environments. Traditional trunk detection methods heavily rely on the visual judgment of robot operators, resulting in significant errors and incorrect vibration point identification. In this paper, we propose a new method based on an improved YOLOv7 network for Camellia oleifera trunk detection. Firstly, we integrate an attention mechanism into the backbone and head layers of YOLOv7, enhancing feature extraction for trunks and enabling the network to focus on relevant target objects. Secondly, we design a weighted confidence loss function based on Facol-EIoU to replace the original loss function in the improved YOLOv7 network. This modification aims to enhance the detection performance specifically for Camellia oleifera trunks. Finally, trunk detection experiments and comparative analyses were conducted with YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5, YOLOv7 and improved YOLOv7 models. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves an mAP of 89.2%, Recall Rate of 0.94, F1 score of 0.87 and Average Detection Speed of 0.018s/pic that surpass those of YOLOv3, YOLOv4, YOLOv5 and YOLOv7 models. The improved YOLOv7 model exhibits excellent trunk detection accuracy, enabling Camellia oleifera fruit harvesting robots to effectively detect trunks in unstructured orchards.

To ensure long-term food production in a changing world, it is critical to identify field management practices that increase crop yields and maintain soil health. Additionally, sustainable agriculture needs to provide experimental evidence to support the use of traditional agricultural practices. In this study, a 20-year investigation of the effects of different combinations of fertilizer types (control, chemical fertilizer, organic fertilizer, and bio-fertilizer) and fertilization amount (conventional dosages and high dosages) on wheat yield and soil health, including soil enzyme activity and microbial biomass, soil microbial diversity, and crop yield. Our long-term study indicates that the use of high dosages of bio-fertilizer can increase the fertilizer yield contribution rate by a minimum of 76.7% compared to other management combinations. Furthermore, this practice can improve soil biological quality, including the concentration of soil microbial biomass carbon, promote bacterial biodiversity, and enhance the soil health index. The effect of high dosages fertilizer was greater than that of conventional dosages fertilizer. The highest soil health index was 0.88 in high dosage bio-fertilizer, and the lowest was 0.12 in chemical fertilizer. In summary, these results suggested that the use of bio-fertilizer can help maintain soil health and crop productivity in the long term.

Plant growth and production are more severely inhibited by alkalinity than by salinity. However, the metabolites responsible for the reduced growth caused by alkalinity are largely unknown. Here, the Illumina RNA-Seq analysis and targeted metabolome were used to identify the differentially expressed genes and metabolites responding to salt and alkali stresses. The expression levels of eight genes related to photosynthesis and some genes related to chlorophyll synthesis decreased under alkali stress, whereas no changes were detected under salt stress, which may explain the observed lower level of photosynthetic rate in alkalinity than in salinity. Under alkali stress, significant decreases in the relative abundances of cis-cinnamic acid and scopoline were observed, which correlated with the high levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The levels of protocatechuic acids decreased, correlating with the observed decrease in the chlorophyll content. Alkalinity markedly increased the production of o-coumaric acid, which contributes to growth inhibition. No significant changes in cis-cinnamic acid, scopoline, and o-coumaric acid were detected in salinity, which may be the reason for the stronger growth inhibition due to alkali stress than salt stress. The accumulation of citric acid, serotonin, pyroglutamic acid, L-citrulline, ferulic acid, and caffeic acid was detected under salt and alkali stress conditions, indicating high free radical scavenging capacity. The enhancement of mevalonic acid and salicylic acid levels was detected under alkali stress, which could have facilitated chlorophyll accumulation. Salt and alkali stress conditions also led to the accumulation of cyclic AMP related to inorganic ion regulation and betaine-related osmoregulation. Benzamide, phenethylamine, N-feruloyltyramine, chrysoeriol 6-C-hexoside, 1,3-o-di-p-coumaroyl glycerol, cordycepin, and 1-o-p-cumaroylglycerol were identified to be accumulated in response to alkali stress.

The combination of a living anionic technology and a unique alternating strategy provided an exciting opportunity to prepare novel and well-defined poly(1,3-pentadiene-co-syrene-co-1,1-diphenylethylene) resins consisting of three alternating sequences of modules (A/B/C zwitterions). “A” being Styrene (St)/1,3-pentadiene (PD), “B” being diphenylethylene (DPE)/PD, “A” being DPE/St, respectively, A wide composition range of new polyolefin resins, i.e., poly (A-co-B), poly (A-co-C), and poly (B-co-C), with controlled molecular weight and very narrow molecular weight and composition distributions have been prepared by a one-pot living characteristic method. In the section of kinetic analysis, the terpolymer yields and kinetic parameters were strongly dependent on the feed/comonomer ratio as well as the content of the alternating structure. The competition copolymerization behaviors of A/B, B/C, and A/C were studied in detail in this work. By contrast, the microstructure and the thermal property of the resulting terpolymer were investigated via Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. The results of 1H NMR tracking the change of [Aromatic ring]/[C=C] value indicated the distinctive copolymer-ization behavior of the selective “alternating-modules”. The glass transition temperature (Tg) was very sensitive to the terpolymer composition. By contrast to poly(A-ran-B) with only one obvious Tg, there were two Tgs in the A/C and B/C copolymerization cases. Moreover, the desirable high Tg ~ 140 °C resin was limited to the terpolymers with up to 50 mol % DPE. Finally, the “ABC-X” mechanism was proposed to interpret the unique terpolymerization behavior, which belongs to the classical “bond-forming initiation” theory.

Anisotropic surfaces with special wettability under various temperatures are of both fundamental interest and practical importance in many fields. However, little attention has been paid to the surfaces at temperatures between room temperature and the boiling point of water, which is partially due to the lack of a suitable characterization technique. Here, using the MPCP (monitoring of the position of the capillary’s projection) technique, the influence of the temperature on the friction of a water droplet on the graphene-PDMS (GP) micropillar array (GP-MA) is investigated. The friction forces in the orthogonal directions and the anisotropy in the friction decrease when the GP-MA surface is heated up, based on the photothermal effect of graphene. The friction forces also decrease along the pre-stretching direction but increase in the orthogonal direction when the stretching is increased. The change in the contact area, the Marangoni flow inside a droplet, and the mass reduction are responsible for the temperature dependence. The findings strengthen our fundamental understanding of the dynamics of drop friction at high temperatures and could pave the way for the design of new functional surfaces with special wettabilities.

In order to discuss the problems of the transformation of soil nitrogen and nitrogen leaching in saline farmland, this study carried out a split-plot experiment with returning straw and various nitrogen application rates. The main treatment of the experiment was returning corn straw, at quantities of 0.64 g (C1) and 0 g (C0), and the secondary treatment was nitrogen fertilizer (urea) at the quantities of 0 g (N0), 0.015 g (N1) and 0.03 g (N2). The results showed that, firstly, with the extension of the incubation time, the nitrogen nitrification rate of saline soil in each treatment decreased gradually until it stabilized without straw. For Days 0–7 of incubation, the nitrogen mineralization rate of saline soil decreased rapidly, and the mineralization rates of C0N0, C0N1 and C0N2 decreased by 86.91%, 89.26% and 83.64%, respectively. The nitrification rate of nitrogen in saline soil was C0N0 > C0N1 > C0N2, which decreased by 68.01%, 67.42% and 60.52%, respectively. Secondly, under the condition of returning straw to the field, the nitrogen mineralization rate of saline soil in each treatment decreased gradually and became stable with the extension of the incubation time. The nitrogen mineralization rate of saline soil in each nitrogen application treatment was C1N2 > C1N1 > C1N0 within 0–3 days of incubation, which decreased by 87.46%, 87.20% and 81.83%, respectively. The nitrification rate of saline soil under different nitrogen treatments was C1N2 > C1N0 > C1N1, and the nitrification rates of C1N0, C1N1 and C1N2 decreased by 66.62%, 62.54% and 47.21%, respectively. Thirdly, during the incubation period, returning straw slowed down nitrogen mineralization and nitrification in saline soil under the reduced nitrogen and no-nitrogen fertilizer treatments, but it enhanced nitrogen mineralization and nitrification in saline soil under the high nitrogen treatment. In conclusion, returning straw and reducing the application of nitrogen fertilizer to saline soil can retain more ammonium nitrogen, thus inhibiting nitrification of the soil nitrogen, reducing the environmental pollution risk of nitrate leaching and reducing nitrogen losses, all of which are of great significance for environmental pollution.

A magnetically functionalized Fe3O4@ZIF−67 metal–organic framework (MOF) was prepared by electrostatic self-assembly using magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles as the core and ZIF−67 as the shell. The composite was characterized by electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier- transform infrared spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller measurements. Magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) was performed on five flavonoids from Dicranopteris pedata using Fe3O4@ZIF−67 as an adsorbent. The developed MSPE method was combined with high-performance liquid chromatography–ultraviolet detection to preconcentrate and separate five flavonoids (rutin, quercitrin, kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside, quercetin, and kaempferol) from Dicranopteris pedata. The factors affecting the extraction, such as the amount of Fe3O4@ZIF−67 adsorbent, salt ion concentration in the sample solution, vortex time, type and amount of desorbing solvent, concentration of formic acid to acidify the desorbing solvent, and acetonitrile ratio, were optimized. The developed method showed good linearity over the concentration range of 1.09–70.0 μg∙mL−1 for the five flavonoids, with R2 values between 0.9901 and 0.9945. The limits of detection and average recoveries for the five flavonoids were in the ranges of 39.5–56.2 ng∙mL−1 and 92.2–100.7%, respectively. The method presented herein is simple, efficient, and sensitive; it can be used for enrichment analysis of the five flavonoids in Dicranopteris pedata.

In this study, chitosan (CS) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid (AMPS)-based hydrogels were formulated by the free radical polymerization technique for the controlled release of gallic acid. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the successful preparation and loading of gallic acid within the hydrogel network. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the increased thermal stability of the hydrogels following the crosslinking and polymerization of chitosan and AMPS. In X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), the crystallinity of the raw materials decreased, indicating strong crosslinking of the reagents and the formation of a new polymeric network of hydrogels. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the hydrogel had a rough, dense, and porous surface, which is consistent with the highly polymerized composition of the hydrogel. After 48 h, the hydrogels exhibited higher swelling at pH 1.2 (swelling ratio of 19.93%) than at pH 7.4 (swelling ratio of 15.65%). The drug release was analyzed using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer and demonstrated that after 48 h, gallic acid release was maximum at pH 1.2 (85.27%) compared to pH 7.4 (75.19%). The percent porosity (78.36%) and drug loading increased with the increasing concentration of chitosan and AMPS, while a decrease was observed with the increasing concentration of ethylene glycol dimethyl methacrylate (EGDMA). Crosslinking of the hydrogels increased with concentrations of chitosan and EGDMA but decreased with AMPS. In vitro studies demonstrated that the developed hydrogels were biodegradable (8.6% degradation/week) and had antimicrobial (zone of inhibition of 21 and 16 mm against Gram-positive bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus as well as 13 mm against Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively) and antioxidant (73% DPPH and 70% ABTS) properties. Therefore, the prepared hydrogels could be used as an effective controlled drug delivery system.

This study explores the effect of phosphorus (P) fractions, under P addition or not, based on a common vetch-rape model cropping system in alkaline soil. A two year field experiment was conducted at Tuzuo Banner modern agricultural Park in Inner Mongolia, China. Two phosphorus levels, including P0 (no fertilizer) and P45 (45 kg·ha−1 P), were performed in common vetch and rape either grown alone or intercropped. We analyzed the changes of the physicochemical properties and phosphorus fractions in the rhizosphere soil. Intercropping enhanced the common vetch and rape yield by 42.05% and 24.91%, on average, compared with corresponding sole cropping on an equivalent area basis. The average land equivalent ratio (LER) was 1.34. Intercropping had a significant AP concentration, of 65.32% and 33.99% at the P0 level, and 62.83% and 36.19% at the P45 level, respectively, compared to that of the sole common vetch and rape. With the application of P, intercropping improved the Resin-Pi and NaHCO3-Pi fraction (61.17%, 87.03% at the P0 level and 96.50%, 41.85% at the P45 level, compared to monocropped common vetch and rape in 2019). The changes in NaOH-Pi and NaOH-Po (except for NaOH-Pi in 2019) showed no significant difference between cropping systems. Intercropping significantly accumulated concentrations of HCl-P, while depleting Residual-P, in 2020. In conclusion, common vetch/rape with the addition of P polyculture stimulated rhizosphere soil P mobilization and had a yield advantage over sole cropping.

The internal resonances of the coupling vibration among electro-dynamic modes of an NEMS are studied for the coupling resonators connected on a Josephson junction. The methodology adopted involves coupling a resonator connected on a Josephson junction. The mathematical model of the coupled system is then obtained by considering the regulatory nonlinear effect of the phase difference of that Josephson junction. The resulting dynamic differential equation is deduced by considering the nonlinear terms of the Josephson junction and the nanobeam. The multi-scale method is then used to obtain the 1:1:1 resonant amplitude–frequency response equation of the coupled electromechanical system. The influence of the phase difference of the Josephson junction, magnetic field, external excitation and other factors are analyzed based on the internal resonant amplitude of the coupled system. The simulation results illustrate that the changes in the values of the magnetic field, excitation amplitude and divided resistances can lead to a remarkable change in the values of the nanobeam frequency and amplitude. The internal resonance principle is used to generate a mutual conversion and amplification among electrical signals and mechanical signals. This research provides a theoretical framework and a numerical approach for improving the sensitivity of magnetic quality detection.

The collection of Camellia oleifera flowers is a key foundation of Camellia oleifera flower pollen extraction. Due to the current problems of low efficiency, high labor intensity and the high cost of manual collection of Camellia oleifera flowers, a harvesting actuator was designed. By analyzing the inherent characteristics of the Camellia oleifera flower and the harvesting method, a harvesting structure using a combination of friction roller twisting harvesting and pipeline pneumatic conveying was designed. The geometric model of the Camellia oleifera flower was established and the motion analysis of the flower was carried out, which indicated that the Camellia oleifera flower would tend to a stable state for easy picking after entering the actuator. Using Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems 2015 software (ADAMS, MSC. Software Corporation, Santa Ana, CA, USA) to simulate the process of Camellia oleifera flower picking, a mechanical analysis was performed in the contact plane to prove the theoretical feasibility of friction roller picking these flowers, and the main influencing factor was obtained as the speed of the friction roller. The test prototype for Camellia oleifera flower picking was built, and the picking experiment was implemented to study the effect of motor speed on the picking time of single Camellia oleifera flowers and the effect of the success rate of the flower picking. The test results show that when the motor speed is 400 r/min, the picking success rate is 96%, the picking time of a single flower is 1.2 s, and the speed of the machine collection of Camellia oleifera flowers is 2.3 times that of manual collection, which proves the realistic feasibility of this picking actuator. This paper provides an important reference and basis for the research and development of a flower harvesting actuator.

Microsatellites have a great attraction to researchers due to their high reliability, resource utilization, low cost, and compact size. As the core component of the optical payload, the mirror directly affects the system package size. Therefore, the structural design of mirrors is critical in the compact internal space of microsatellites. This study proposes a closed-back mirror with composite surfaces based on additive manufacturing (AM). Compared with the open-back mirror, it provides excellent optomechanical performance. In addition, AM significantly reduces the intricate mechanical parts’ manufacturing difficulty. Finally, the roughness was better than 2 nm. The surface shape of the AM aluminum mirror reached RMS 1/10λ (λ = 632.8 nm) with the aid of ultra-precision machining technologies such as single-point diamond turning (SPDT), surface modification, and polishing, and the maximum deviation of the surface shape was about RMS 1/42λ (λ = 632.8 nm) after the thermal cycle test, which verified the optical grade application of AM.

Bioinspired surfaces with special wettabilities attract increasing attention due to their extensive applications in many fields. However, the characterizations of surface wettability by contact angle (CA) and sliding angle (SA) have clear drawbacks. Here, by using an array of triangular micropillars (ATM) prepared by soft lithography, the merits of measuring the friction force of a water droplet on ATM over measurements of CA and SA in characterizing the surface wettability are demonstrated. The CA and SA measurements show ignorable differences in the wettabilities of ATM in opposite directions (1.13%) and that with different periodic parameters under the elongation ranging from 0 to 70%. In contrast, the friction measurement reveals a difference of > 10% in opposite directions. Moreover, the friction force shows a strong dependence on the periodic parameters which is regulated by mechanical stretching. Increasing the elongation from 0 to 50% increases the static and kinetic friction force up to 23.0% and 22.9%, respectively. Moreover, the stick-slip pattern during kinetic friction can reveal the periodic features of the measured surface. The friction force measurement is a sensitive technique that could find applications in the characterization of surface wettabilities.

Crop yield mainly depends on environment and cultivation practices that vary according to a growing environment. However, an oat (Avena sativa L.)-common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) intercrop system has not been fully developed in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia, China. This study evaluated the effects of seven treatments, including five oat-common vetch intercropping patterns, sole oat, and sole vetch on yield and quality performance at different growth periods [75 days after sowing (DAS), 90 DAS, 105 DAS], on the basis of field experiments conducted in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia in 2015 and 2016. The OV3:1 (oat intercropped with common vetch at seeding ratios 3:1) treatment at 105 DAS in 2016 was superior to other treatments, as it achieved the highest shoot dry matter, increasing by 24.1% and 37.1% compared to sole oat and common vetch. The crude fat (CF) contents, CF yield, and crude protein (CP) yield increased under OV3:1, and acid detergent fiber (ADF) decreased under OV3:1, compared to monoculture. The results indicate that intercropping is an efficient cropping system for the agro-pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia. The appropriate proportion of oat and common vetch intercropping at 3:1 and harvesting time not only increases crop yield but also improves the crop quality.

In this paper, a four-degree-of-freedom camellia-pollen-picking manipulator is proposed and designed. It can solve the problem of having no mechanized equipment for picking camellia pollen in agricultural machinery as the labor intensity of manual pollen extraction is high. To make the manipulator reach the target space quickly and efficiently, a structural-parameter-optimization method that reduces the working space to a more versatile cube is proposed. The numerical optimization algorithm is used to calculate the optimization result. Through the static analysis of the manipulator, the stability of the manipulator structure is verified. The working space of the manipulator is simulated and analyzed, and the simulation results are further verified by experiments. This research provides reliable technical support for the structural optimization, manufacturing, and intelligent upgrading of the camellia-pollen-picking robot.

Blue mold caused by Penicillium expansum is one of the most common apple diseases, and it is becoming a serious threat in apple production. The strain Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Ba168 showed high levels of antimicrobial activity in our previous study. To analyze the antimicrobial protein of Ba168, a high-resolution LC-MS/MS proteomic analysis was performed. A total of 1155 proteins were identified from 5233 unique peptides. A total of 16 potential antimicrobial-activity-related proteins were identified; 10 of these proteins have direct antimicrobial effects, while 6 of these proteins are associated with the formation of antimicrobial substances. Then, an antifungal protein of Ba168 was isolated and purified by the sequential chromatography of DEAE Bio-sep FF anion exchange and Sephadex G-75. The single protein, named BP8-2, showed antifungal activity towards Penicillium expansum. The peptide mass fingerprinting of the protein band of BP8-2 had a high similarity with the amino acid sequences of flagellin protein. The results showed that BP8-2 significantly inhibited the growth of P. expansum and slowed the spread of apple blue mold. The results indicated that flagellin is one of the important antimicrobial substances from Ba168.

Young nurses’ safety behavior and interrupted coping behavior affect patient safety. A stepped, interactive and situated training program should be evaluated to assist young nurses in improving themselves. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the stepwise interactive situated training program on safety behavior and practice ability with respect to nursing interruptions for young nurses and its influencing factors. This was a quasi-experimental, one-group, self-control and pretest–post-test design study. Six hundred young nurses in two provinces were included. The participants underwent a stepwise interactive situated training program from March to August 2019. The program was delivered by designated head nurses and consisted of five themes: mobilization, theoretical training, operational training, specialized training and self-improvement. Five hundred and sixty-two young nurses completed this study. The safety behavior and the practice of nursing interruption were significantly higher after intervention than before. Professional titles, age and occupational time were the influence factors. The stepwise interactive situated training program was effective at improving young nurses’ safety behavior and interrupted coping behavior. Nurses with higher professional titles performed better with regard to the safety behavior and the practice of nursing interruption.

Human–machine cooperative driving is an important stage in the development of autonomous driving technology. However, in emergencies, the problem of vehicle stability control for human–computer cooperative autonomous vehicles is still worthy of attention. This paper mainly realizes the stability control of the human–machine cooperative driving vehicle through active steering and considers the influence of the change of vehicle speed on the vehicle stability control performance. Therefore, a vehicle stability control method based on the superposition of steering torque is proposed, in which the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is used to solve the variable parameter problem. Firstly, a vehicle system model with steering moment as input is established to ensure that the driver can participate in the steering control. Secondly, the nonlinear T-S fuzzy model is established by fuzzifying the local linear model. Then, the parallel-distributed-compensation (PDC) method is used to design the vehicle stability controller, and the asymptotic stability of the system in the range of variable parameters is proved by using the Lyapunov stability principle. Finally, the simulation and experimental results show that the control method can improve the handling stability of the human–machine cooperative driving vehicle under the condition of vehicle speed variation.

Carotid atherosclerosis is a common arterial wall lesion that causes narrowing and occlusion of the arteries and is the basis of cardiovascular events. Dietary habits, lifestyle, and lipid metabolism should be considered integrally in the context of carotid atherosclerosis (CAS). However, this area has been investigated less often in China. To understand the prevalence of CAS in China and the impact of dietary diversity and habits, lifestyle, and lipid metabolism on CAS as well as its predictive factors, a cross-sectional study was performed in two northern and southern Chinese tertiary hospitals from 2017 to 2019. Included participants underwent carotid artery color Doppler ultrasonography, blood lipid examination and dietary evaluation. In total, 11,601 CAS patients and 27,041 individuals without carotid artery lesions were included. The prevalence of CAS was 30.0% in this group. High BMI (OR: 1.685, 95% CI [1.315–2.160]), current (1.148 [1.077–1.224]) or ex-smoking (1.349 [1.190–1.529]), abstinence from alcohol ((1.223 [1.026–1.459]), social engagement (1.122 [1.050–1.198]), hypertension (1.828 [1.718–1.945]), and total cholesterol (1.438 [1.298–1.594]) were risk factors for CAS, while higher dietary diversity according to DDS-2 (0.891 [0.805–0.989]), HDL-C (0.558 [0.487–0.639]), sugar-sweetened beverages (0.734 [0.696–0.774]), and no midnight snack consumption (0.846 [0.792–0.903]) were protective factors. This current study demonstrated that higher dietary diversity was a protective factor against CAS in a healthy population. In addition, current recommendations of healthy lifestyle and dietary habits for preventing CAS should be strengthened. In addition, dietary diversity should concentrate on food attributes and dietary balance, rather than increased quantities.

In the planar flow casting (PFC) process, the cooling rate significantly affects the structure and properties of a cast ribbon. The influence of the thermal conductivity of the cooling wheel substrate on cooling rate was simulated by a numerical method, and it is shown that a higher thermal conductivity of the cooling wheel substrate leads to a higher cooling rate in the PFC process. Two copper-beryllium (Cu-2Be) rings with thermal conductivities of 175.3 W/m·K and 206.5 W/m·K were manufactured and installed onto a wheel core as the substrate of the cooling wheel. The effects of cooling rate on the soft magnetic properties of Fe-Si-B amorphous ribbons were investigated by pragmatic ribbon casting. The results show that the increment in the thermal conductivity of the cooling wheel substrate from 175.3 W/m·K to 206.5 W/m·K lowered the coercive force of amorphous ribbon from 2.48 A/m to 1.92 A/m and reduced the core losses at 1.4 T and 50 Hz by up to 22.1%.

The development of oil and gas resources is gradually transferring to the deep sea, and the hydrate plugging of submarine pipelines at high pressures and low temperatures is becoming an important problem to ensure the safety of pipeline operations. The swirl flow is a new method to expand the boundary of hydrate safe flow. Numerical simulation of the hydrate slurry flow characteristics in a horizontal pipeline by twisted band has been carried out, and the flow of CO2 hydrate slurry in low concentration has been simulated by the RSM and DPM models. The results show that the heat transfer efficiency is also related to Re and particle concentration. The velocity distribution has the form of symmetrical double peaks, and the peaks finally merge at the center of the pipeline. Vortexes firstly appear on both sides of the edge of the twisted band, and then move to the middle part of the twisted band. Finally, the vortex center almost coincides with the velocity center. The rotation direction of hydrate particles is the same as the twisted direction of the twisted band, twist rate (Y) is smaller, Re is larger, and the symmetric vortex lines merge farther away. The initial swirl number is mainly related to Y, but not Re. The swirl flow attenuates exponentially, and its attenuation rate is mainly related to Re, but not Y. Compared with ordinary pipelines, the swirl flow can obviously improve the transportation distance of hydrate slurry.

The natural gas hydrate plugging problems in the mixed pipeline are becoming more and more serious. The hydrate plugging has gradually become an important problem to ensure the safety of pipeline operation. The deposition and heat transfer characteristics of natural gas hydrate particles in the spiral flow pipeline have been studied. The DPM model (discrete phase model) was used to simulate the motion of solid particles, which was used to simulate the complex spiral flow characteristics of hydrate in the pipeline with a long twisted band. The deposition and heat transfer characteristics of gas hydrate particles in the spiral flow pipeline were studied. The velocity distribution, pressure drop distribution, heat transfer characteristics, and particle settling characteristics in the pipeline were investigated. The numerical results showed that compared with the straight flow without a long twisted band, two obvious eddies are formed in the flow field with a long twisted band, and the velocities are maximum at the center of the vortices. Along the direction of the pipeline, the two vortices move toward the pipe wall from near the twisted band, which can effectively carry the hydrate particles deposited on the wall. With the same Reynolds number, the twisted rate was greater, the spiral strength was weaker, the tangential velocity was smaller, and the pressure drop was smaller. Therefore, the pressure loss can be reduced as much as possible with effect of the spiral flow. In a straight light flow, the Nusselt number is in a parabolic shape with the opening downwards. At the center of the pipe, the Nusselt number gradually decreased toward the pipe wall at the maximum, and at the near wall, the attenuation gradient of the Nu number was large. For spiral flow, the curve presented by the Nusselt number was a trough at the center of the pipe and a peak at 1/2 of the pipe diameter. With the reduction of twist rate, the Nusselt number becomes larger. Therefore, the spiral flow can make the temperature distribution more even and prevent the large temperature difference, resulting in the mass formation of hydrate particles in the pipeline wall. Spiral flow has a good carrying effect. Under the same condition, the spiral flow carried hydrate particles at a distance about 3–4 times farther than that of the straight flow.

The low frequency phase characteristics of microphones in a monitoring system are crucial for characterizing large-scale natural and artificial activities—e.g., earthquakes, nuclear explosions, or rocket launchings. At present, microphones are simultaneously calibrated using in-situ or calibrator methods to get their phase consistency. However, the essential primary calibration, which traces their phase sensitivity to basic physical quantities, is grossly overlooked. Recently, we speculated that the microphone phase sensitivity is acoustically controlled by the pressure leakage and heat conduction effects in its back chamber, which will vary at low frequencies. Therefore, by means of the FEA (Finite Element Analysis) technique, simulations of laser pistonphone-based primary microphone calibrations are conducted both in the frequency and time domains. The frequency domain simulation quantifies the phase variation, while the time domain analysis helps us to understand the variation mechanism. It is found that the low frequency phase sensitivity is greatly influenced by its geometries and the venting state and should be pre-calibrated before serving.

The detection of difenidol hydrochloride, which is a drug that is widely used for treating the nausea and vomiting symptoms caused by certain diseases, has been increasingly involved in cases of suicide via overdosing and of drug poisoning in children. A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for the simple and effective detection of difenidol hydrochloride was fabricated by modifying a glassy carbon electrode with three-dimensional carbon nanofibers (3D-CNFs). The 3D-CNFs were synthesized by electrospinning a mixture of montmorillonite (MMT) and polyacrylonitrile, carbonizing the electrospun product, and etching it with hydrofluoric acid. The form and structure of the 3D-CNFs was analyzed via scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman microspectroscopy. According to the experimental results obtained using the modified electrodes, a good linear relationship was found between peak intensity and difenidol concentration (y = 868.14x − 61.04, R2 = 0.999), with a relatively low detection limit (8.64 × 10−10 mol·L−1 (S/N = 3)). In addition, our approach exhibited good recovery values ranging from 98.99% to 102.28%. The proposed novel ECL sensor has wide application prospects for the detection of difenidol hydrochloride.

An optical fiber interferometric refractometer for alcohol gas concentration and low refractive index (RI) solution (with 1.33−1.38 RI range) measurement is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated. The refractometer is based on a single-mode thin-core single-mode (STS) interferometric structure. By embedding a suitably sized air cavity at the splicing point, high-order cladding modes are successfully excited, which makes the sensor more suitable for low RI solution measurement. The effect of the air cavity’s diameter on the sensitivity of alcohol gas concentration was analyzed experimentally, which proved that RI sensitivity will increase with an enlarged diameter of the air cavity. On this basis, the air cavity is filled with graphene in order to improve the sensitivity of the sensor; and the measured sensitivity of the alcohol gas concentration is −1206.1 pm/%. Finally, the characteristics of the single-cavity structure, graphene-filled structure and double-cavity structure sensors are demonstrated, and the linear RI sensitivities are −54.593 nm/RIU (refractive index unit), −85.561 nm/RIU and 359.77 nm/RIU, respectively. Moreover, these sensor structures have the advantages of being compact and easily prepared.

Examining the soil microbiome structure has great significance in terms of exploring the mechanism behind plant growth changes due to maize (Zea mays L.) and soybean (Glycine max Merr.) crop rotation. This study explored the effects of soil microbial community structure after soybean and maize crop rotation by designing nine treatments combining three crop rotations (continuous cropping maize or soybean; and maize after soybean) with three fertility treatments (organic compound fertilizer, chemical fertilizer, or without fertilizer). Soil was sampled to 30 cm depth the second year at approximately the middle of the growing season, and was analyzed for physical, chemical, and phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) profiles. Bacteria was found to be the predominant component of soil microorganisms, which mainly contained the PLFAs 16:0. Crop rotation with organic compound fertilizer application reduced the percentage of fungi in the soil by 24% compared to continuous maize and soybean with the same fertilizer application. The combination of crop rotation with organic fertilizer can reduce the percentage of fungi/bacteria to the greatest degree. In addition, the content of soil aggregate and organic matter had great influence on Gram-positive bacteria and actinomyces. In conclusion, soybean and maize crop rotation improve the soil nutrient content primarily by influencing the composition of bacterial community, especially the Gram-positive bacteria.

Insulin therapy is often needed to overcome insulin receptor resistance in type 2 diabetes; however, the impact of providing additional insulin to already hyperinsulinemic subjects is not clear. We infused male TALLYHO/Jng (TH) mice (insulin resistant) with insulin (50 U/kg·bw/d) or vehicle (control) by osmotic minipump for 14 days. One group of insulin-infused mice was switched to 4% NaCl diet (high-sodium diet, HSD) in the second week. Blood chemistry revealed a significantly higher anion gap and blood sodium concentrations with insulin infusion, i.e., relative metabolic acidosis. Systolic BP and heart rate were slightly (~5 mm Hg) higher in insulin-infused versus control mice. HSD resulted in a modest and transient rise in mean arterial blood pressure (BP), relative to control or insulin-infused, normal-NaCl-fed mice. In kidney, insulin infusion: (1) increased total and phosphorylated (serine-1177) endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) band densities; (2) reduced band density of the uncoupled form of eNOS; and (3) increased renal homogenate nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity. Despite this, plasma and urine levels of nitrates plus nitrites (NOx) fell with insulin infusion, by day 14 (40–50%) suggesting worsening of resistance. Overall, insulin infusion ramps up the cellular means in kidney to increase vasodilatory and natriuretic NO, but in the long term may be associated with worsening of insulin receptor resistance.

Background: DNA methylation can change rapidly to regulate the expression of stress-responsive genes. Previous studies have shown that there are significant differences in the cold resistance of winter rapeseed (Brassica rapa L.) after being domesticated in different selection environments; however, little is known about the epigenetic regulatory mechanisms of its cold resistance formation. Methods: Four winter rapeseed materials (‘CT-2360’, ‘MXW-1’, ‘2018-FJT’, and ‘DT-7’) domesticated in different environments were selected to analyze the DNA methylation level and pattern changes under low temperature using methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism technology with 60 primer pairs. Results: A total of 18 pairs of primers with good polymorphism were screened, and 1426 clear bands were amplified, with 594 methylation sites, accounting for 41.65% of the total amplified bands. The total methylation ratios of the four materials were reduced after low-temperature treatment, in which the DNA methylation level of ‘CT-2360’ was higher than that of the other three materials; the analysis of methylation patterns revealed that the degree of demethylation was higher than that of methylation in ‘MXW-1’, ‘2018-FJT’, and ‘DT-7’, which were 22.99%, 19.77%, and 24.35%, respectively, and that the methylation events in ‘CT-2360’ were predominantly dominant at 22.95%. Fifty-three polymorphic methylated DNA fragments were randomly selected and further analyzed, and twenty-nine of the cloned fragments were homologous to genes with known functions. The candidate genes VQ22 and LOC103871127 verified the existence of different expressive patterns before and after low-temperature treatment. Conclusions: Our work implies the critical role of DNA methylation in the formation of cold resistance in winter rapeseed. These results provide a comprehensive insight into the adaptation epigenetic regulatory mechanism of Brassica rapa L. to low temperature, and the identified differentially methylated genes can also be used as important genetic resources for the multilateral breeding of winter-resistant varieties.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been widely used in the past decade to enhance the design quality of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. However, in specialized areas such as pharmaceutical facilities, HVAC design has traditionally relied on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings. This conventional approach does not allow for the simulation of temperature distribution or the verification of system efficiency, which may lead to design failures. To address these challenges in pharmaceutical facilities, this study proposed a BIM-based approach for optimizing HVAC design with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). By employing CFD to simulate the dynamic airflow conditions of pharmaceutical clean rooms, the effectiveness of HVAC systems can be verified. A case study of a clean room HVAC design is presented to demonstrate the workflow. The results of the case study indicated that the pharmaceutical temperature requirements were met within 1 °C during the design optimization simulation, and there was a 95% match in the 72 h temperature mapping test during site validation. The results confirmed that using CFD with BIM not only successfully simulates the design intentions of indoor air quality but also suggests HVAC system optimization for the required clean room design. The findings of this paper contribute to the body of knowledge on overcoming the limitations of the traditional CAD-based HVAC design process and provide valuable insights on optimizing HVAC design with BIM and CFD technologies.

Dietary supplement use is common among US adults. We aimed to investigate the quantity, duration, adherence, and reasons for supplement use in individuals who take supplements. Data from 2011 to 2018 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) dataset were analyzed. Four cycles of data were combined to estimate these outcomes. Results are presented as overall group and by subgroups. All analyses were weighted to be nationally representative. The Taylor Series Linearization approach was used to generate variance estimates. A total of 12,529 participants were included. Over 70% of these individuals reported taking more than one unit of dietary supplements daily. Notably, approximately 40% had been taking supplements for more than five years and about 67% were highly adherent to at least one supplement. However, only 26.9% of these supplements were taken following a doctor’s recommendation. The primary reasons for dietary supplements intake included improving overall health (37.2%), maintaining health (34.7%), bone health (21.4%), and diet supplementation (20.3%). Our findings indicate that most participants proactively used multiple dietary supplements focused on self-managed health and prevention, with substantial dedication to long-term use and high adherence. Healthcare professionals should play a more active role in guiding such behaviors to optimize the health outcomes of dietary supplement users across the United States.

Fruits and vegetables are an important part of the human diet, but during transportation and storage, microbial pathogens attack and spoil fruits and vegetables, causing huge economic losses to agriculture. Traditionally used chemical fungicides leave chemical residues, leading to environmental pollution and health risks. With the emphasis on food safety, biocontrol agents are attracting more and more attention due to their environmental friendliness. Endophytic fungi are present in plant tissues and do not cause host disease. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) they produce are used to control postharvest diseases due to their significant antifungal activity, as well as their volatility, safety and environmental protection characteristics. This review provides the concept and characterization of endophytic fungal VOCs, concludes the types of endophytic fungi that release antifungal VOCs and their biological control mechanisms, as well as focuses on the practical applications and the challenges of applying VOCs as fumigants. Endophytic fungal VOCs can be used as emerging biocontrol resources to control postharvest diseases that affect fruits and vegetables.

The key to whether elderly individuals in the community can enjoy their later years peacefully lies in the service capabilities of community comprehensive elderly care service facilities (CCECSF) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. To maintain a high level of service capability in community comprehensive elderly care service facilities under PPP mode, scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of these facilities is equally crucial. This article first constructs a post-occupancy evaluation index system of community comprehensive elderly care service facilities under PPP mode that includes three evaluation attributes and fifteen evaluation criteria based on the Chinese culture and lifestyle habits. Regarding the issue of direct users being unable to directly participate in evaluations, the uncertainty in evaluation information, and the volatility of evaluation results, a multi-stage post-occupancy evaluation model is constructed based on probabilistic linguistic term set, TOPSIS model and multi-stage decision theory. The above post-occupancy evaluation index system and evaluation model together constitute a multi-stage post-occupancy evaluation framework for community comprehensive elderly care service facilities under PPP mode. The outcomes of the case study indicate that the post-occupancy evaluation index system can offer a scientifically guided approach for evaluating the service level of community comprehensive elderly care service facilities under the PPP mode; meanwhile, the multi-stage evaluation model can enable direct user participation in the post-evaluation of facility usage and improve the robustness and reduce the fluctuation of the evaluation results, so as to improve the scientificity of the evaluation results.

Many croplands in the tropics of China have been converted over the last decades into areca nut plantations due to their high economic returns. This land-use transition was accompanied by changes in agricultural practices such as soil moisture regimes and fertilizer inputs, which may affect soil organic carbon (SOC) and its fractions, especially in tropical soils with low fertility and high nitrogen loss. Yet, how the time since land-use transition from rice paddy cultivation to areca nut plantations affects soil carbon dynamics and their underlying mechanisms in the tropics of China remains elusive. Here, areca nut plantation soils with different ages (2, 5, 10, 14, and 17 years) and paddy fields in the tropical region of China were investigated. The study result indicates that the contents of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), particulate organic carbon (POC), easily oxidized organic carbon (EOC), light organic carbon (LFOC), and microbial biomass carbon (MBC) decreased significantly with increased time since land-use transition from rice paddy cultivation to areca nut plantations. Similarly, the ratios of DOC/SOC, MBC/SOC, POC/SOC, LFOC/SOC, and EOC/SOC decreased significantly with increased time since land-use transition. Compared with the paddy soil, the carbon pool management index decreased by 36.6–76.7% under the areca nut plantations, concluding that increasing the time since land-use transition from rice paddy cultivation to areca nut plantations with high application rates of chemical fertilizers resulted in reduced soil active carbon fractions and SOC supply capacity. Therefore, agricultural practices such as the use of organic fertilizers should be applied to improve the soil’s ability to supply organic carbon in managed plantation ecosystems in the tropics of China.

In recent years, the number of Chinese Christian organizations in Europe has grown considerably compared to other overseas Chinese community organizations. They can mobilize transnational networks and resources to expand religious space in host societies and form a highly visible social force. Although the rise of early Christianity in the Western world has been considered an outcome of inherent religious strength, especially in terms of its central doctrines and religious ethics, this article suggests that in the diasporic Chinese world where Christianity constitutes a non-indigenous religious tradition, social relatedness based on native place, family, and kinship ties provides a more useful context for understanding its dynamic expansion and cross-regional transmission. Drawing on anthropological fieldwork conducted in Europe among overseas Chinese Christian traders and entrepreneurs, this research seeks an alternative framework for understanding the religious-cultural dynamics of Chinese Christianity in the context of transnational migration.

In recent days, there has been a noticeable surge in demand for high-quality rice. However, the influences of salinity on the quality and starch properties of high-quality rice remain unclear. Three high-quality rice cultivars (Nanjing 9108, Nanjing 5055, and Nanjing 46) were studied to investigate the responses of grain quality to salt stress. There were three treatments, including a control zero salt level (0 g·kg−1, CK), and two salt levels of 0.1 g·kg−1 (0.1% salt stress, T1) and 0.2 g·kg−1 (0.2% salt stress, T2). The study involved the assessment of the appearance, milling, cooking, and eating qualities of rice. We also conducted an analysis of pasting properties, an evaluation of starch thermal properties, and an examination of the fine structure of amylopectin. The findings suggest that as the level of salt stress increases, the yield of rice gradually declines, which is primarily due to a significant reduction in the total spikelet number and the ratio of filled grains. Compared with CK treatment, the appearance and milling quality of rice were significantly improved within the T1 treatment. In addition, the protein concentration and amylose concentration were significantly decreased, the gel consistency was significantly increased, and the cooking and eating qualities were improved. In terms of starch properties, the peak viscosity, breakdown value, infrared ratio (1022/995), and short-chain-length amylopectin ratio increased significantly, while the setback value, pasting temperature, gelatinization enthalpy, relative crystallinity, and infrared ratio (1045/1022) decreased significantly. When comparing T2 with CK, the appearance quality and cooking and eating quality had deteriorated, and the milling quality was improved. The changes in the structural and physicochemical properties of starch were opposite to those in the comparison between the T1 treatment and the CK group. Accordingly, we propose that moderate salt stress has the potential to enhance rice quality, even though there may be a slight decrease in yield. This indicates that it is feasible to cultivate high-quality rice in saline–alkali beach areas.

Panax ginseng, a traditional Chinese medicine with a history spanning thousands of years, faces overexploitation and challenges related to extended growth periods. Tissue-cultured adventitious roots and stem cells are alternatives to wild and field-cultivated ginseng. In this study, we assessed the in vitro xanthine oxidase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of saponin extracts among cultured cambial meristematic cells (CMC), adventitious ginseng roots (AGR), and field-cultivated ginseng roots (CGR). The xanthine oxidase (XO) and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities were determined by uric acid estimation and the p-NPG method, respectively. Spectrophotometry and the Folin–Ciocalteu, aluminum nitrate, and Bradford methods were employed to ascertain the total saponins and phenolic, flavonoid, and protein contents. The calculated IC50 values for total saponin extracts against XO and α-glucosidase were 0.665, 0.844, and >1.6 mg/mL and 0.332, 0.745, and 0.042 mg/mL for AGR, CMC, CGR, respectively. Comparing the total saponin, crude protein, and total phenolic contents revealed that AGR > CMC > CGR. To the best of our knowledge, this study presents the first report on the in vitro comparison of xanthine oxidase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities among AGR, CMC, and CGR. The findings offer valuable insights into the development of hypoglycemic and antihyperuricemic medicinal, nutraceutical, and functional products utilizing AGR and CMC.
