We develop a new analytical and numerical approach, based on existing models, to describe the onset of lateral–torsional buckling (LTB) for simply supported thin-walled steel members. The profiles have uniform I cross-sections with variable lengths of the flanges, to describe also H cross-sections, they are prestressed by external tendons, and they are subjected to fire and various loadings. Our approach manages to update the value of the prestressing force, accounting for thermal and loads; the critical multipliers result from an eigenvalue problem obtained applying Galërkin’s approach to a system of nonlinear equilibrium equations. Our results are compared to buckling, steady state, and transient state analyses of a Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation, in which an original expression for an equivalent thermal expansion coefficient for the beam–tendon system that accounts for both mechanical and thermal strains is introduced. Our aim is to find estimates for the critical conditions with no geometric imperfections and accounting for the decay of material properties due to fire, thus providing limit values useful for conservative design. This approach can surpass others in the literature and in the existing technical norms.

The hydrothermal synthesis of Ba1−xCoxTiO3 (BCT) ceramic nanocrystals across varied substitution fractions (x = 0, …, 1) is the subject of this study. Hydrothermal synthesis is well known for producing high-purity and well-crystallized nanocrystals. A thorough examination is conducted to examine the effects on the structural and electrical properties of the resultant BCT nanocrystals by altering the cobalt substitution fraction. X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used to analyze the structure, while complex impedance spectroscopy (CIS) is used to analyze the electrical properties. As the cobalt content rises, XRD examination reveals a smooth transition from the ferroelectric BaTiO3 phase to the ferromagnetic CoTiO3 phase, offering extensive insights into the phase composition and crystallographic alterations. This phase shift is important because it creates new opportunities to adjust the properties of the material for particular uses. The electrical activity of BCT nanocrystals is clarified further by CIS measurements. A distribution of relaxation times, frequently linked to complex microstructures or heterogeneous materials, is suggested by the detected non-Debye relaxation. A thermally activated conduction process, in which higher temperatures promote the passage of charge carriers, is suggested by the temperature-dependent increase in conductivity. This behavior is strongly dependent on the cobalt content, suggesting that cobalt enhances electrical conductivity and crystallinity through a catalytic effect. A frequency-dependent dielectric constant that rises with temperature and cobalt content is shown by investigating the dielectric characteristics of BCT nanocrystals. Improved polarization mechanisms inside the material are suggested by this increase in dielectric constant, which may be the result of cobalt ion presence. With a thorough grasp of the dielectric behavior, the examination of the loss angle further validates the non-Debye relaxation process.

This research investigates the influence of synthesis kinetics on the structural and photocatalytic properties of chitosan–clay nanocomposites (Cs/MMT) and chitosan–hectorite nanocomposites (Cs/HET), employing an optimized initial stoichiometry of 1:3. Utilizing a variety of analytical techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the study explores the structural evolution of the nanocomposites and their photocatalytic performance using semiconductor catalysts TiO2 and ZnO. The findings emphasize the significant impact of reaction kinetics, particularly after 3 h of reaction time, on the structural features of the nanocomposites. Notably, Cs/MMT demonstrates greater crystalline stability compared to Cs/HET due to variations in octahedral cavity occupancy in the initial clays. FTIR and TEM analyses depict the progressive evolution of the nanocomposites during the reaction, shedding light on how reaction kinetics drive the formation of specific bonds within the nanocomposites. In terms of photocatalytic activity, this study provides insights into the complex dynamics of photocatalytic degradation, with a specific focus on the performance of TiO2 and ZnO under diverse experimental conditions. The superior efficacy of TiO2 as a catalyst, particularly when integrated with Cs/MMT nanocomposites, is unequivocally demonstrated, with degradation rates exceeding 80%. This preference stems from TiO2 consistently exhibiting higher degradation rates compared to ZnO, attributed to structural disparities between montmorillonite and hectorite, influencing catalyst–support interactions. The findings underscore the critical importance of selecting suitable catalyst and support matrix combinations for optimizing performance in specific applications.

In this paper, we aim to investigate corrected Euler–Maclaurin inequalities involving pre-invex mappings within the framework of fractional calculus. We want to find a number of important results for differentiable pre-invex mappings and Riemann–Liouville (RL) fractional integrals so that we can make more accurate error estimates. Additionally, we present examples with graphical illustrations to substantiate our major findings and deduce several special cases under certain conditions. Afterwards, we introduce applications such as the linear combination of means, composite corrected Maclaurin’s rule, modified Bessel mappings, and novel iterative methods for solving nonlinear equations.

The changing epidemiological profile of invasive Haemophilus influenzae infections (IIHi) is noted in the post-vaccination era. The aim of this study was to characterize phenotypically and genotypically invasive Haemophilus influenzae (Hi) isolates detected in Tunisian pediatric patients. A retrospective study was conducted in the microbiology laboratory of the Children’s Hospital of Tunis over ten years (2013–2023). All IIHi cases were included. Molecular identification and serotyping were conducted through qPCR. Molecular typing and analysis of resistance genes were extracted from whole genome sequencing data. Fifty-three IIHi cases were collected. Children under five years old were the most affected (81%). Non-typable isolates (NTHi) were predominant (79%) followed by serotype b (17%) and serotype a (4%). Genetic diversity was observed, essentially among NTHi isolates. Resistance of Hi isolates to ampicillin, amoxicillin–clavulanic acid and cefotaxime (CTX) were 42%, 20% and 4%, respectively. Thirteen isolates (29%) produced a beta-lactamase and 14 carried the blaTEM-1 gene (kappa = 0.95). For non-enzymatic resistance, group 3 (n = 12) showed resistance to ampicillin. Groupe 4 (n = 9, NTHi) showed discordances with resistance to CTX. The emergence of resistance to CTX is concerning. Continuous surveillance through molecular tools in conjunction with phenotypic and clinical data is necessary to ensure better management of these infections.

Active repair systems employing piezoelectric (PZT) patches have emerged as promising solutions for mitigating crack propagation and enhancing structural integrity in various engineering applications. However, the existing literature predominantly focuses on the application of PZT patches for repairing structures under mechanical loading. In this study, a finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to investigate the repair of a centre-cracked aluminium plate under both mechanical and thermo-mechanical loading conditions. This study explores the influence of key parameters, including temperature, PZT patch thickness, type of PZT material, adhesive material, and adhesive thickness, on the structural integrity and crack propagation behaviour. The results reveal significant differences in stress distribution and crack propagation tendencies under varying loading conditions and parameter settings. These findings emphasize the necessity of considering thermo-mechanical loading conditions and parameter variations when designing effective active repair systems. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into optimizing PZT patch-based repair strategies for improved structural integrity and crack mitigation in aerospace and other engineering applications under diverse loading scenarios.

The relation between fractional calculus and convexity significantly impacts the development of the theory of integral inequalities. In this paper, we explore the reverse of Minkowski and Hölder’s inequality, unified Jensen’s inequality, and Hermite–Hadamard (H-H)-like inequalities using fractional calculus and a generic class of interval-valued convexity. We introduce the concept of I.V-(⋏,ℏ) generic class of convexity, which unifies several existing definitions of convexity. By utilizing Riemann–Liouville (R-L) fractional operators and I.V-(⋏,ℏ) convexity to derive new improvements of the H-H- and Fejer and Pachpatte-like inequalities. Our results are quite unified; by substituting the different values of parameters, we obtain a blend of new and existing inequalities. These results are fruitful for establishing bounds for I.V R-L integral operators. Furthermore, we discuss various implications of our findings, along with numerical examples and simulations to enhance the reliability of our results.

Molecular scattering (Rayleigh scattering) has been extensively used from the ground with lidars and from space to observe the limb, thereby deriving vertical temperature profiles between 30 and 80 km. In this study, we investigate how temperature can be measured using the new Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) sensor, aboard the Suomi NPP and NOAA-21 satellites. The OMPS consists of three instruments whose main purpose is to study the composition of the stratosphere. One of these, the Limb Profiler (LP), measures the radiance of the limb of the middle atmosphere (stratosphere and mesosphere, 12 to 90 km altitude) at wavelengths from 290 to 1020 nm. This new data set has been used with a New Simplified Radiative Transfer Model (NSRTM) to derive temperature profiles with a vertical resolution of 1 km. To validate the method, the OMPS-derived temperature profiles were compared with data from four ground-based lidars and the ERA5 and MSIS models. The results show that OMPS and the lidars are in agreement within a range of about 5 K from 30 to 80 km. Comparisons with the models also show similar results, except for ERA5 beyond 50 km. We investigated various sources of bias, such as different attenuation sources, which can produce errors of up to 120 K in the UV range, instrumental errors around 0.8 K and noise problems of up to 150 K in the visible range for OMPS. This study also highlighted the interest in developing a new miniaturised instrument that could provide real-time observation of atmospheric vertical temperature profiles using a constellation of CubeSats with our NSRTM.

In this study, we introduce a novel local fractional integral identity related to the Gaussian two-point left Radau rule. Based on this identity, we establish some new fractal inequalities for functions whose first-order local fractional derivatives are generalized convex and concave. The obtained results not only represent an extension of certain previously established findings to fractal sets but also a refinement of these when the fractal dimension μ is equal to one. Finally, to support our findings, we present a practical application to demonstrate the effectiveness of our results.

Uvsq-Sat NG is a French 6U CubeSat (10 × 20 × 30 cm) of the International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE) designed primarily for observing greenhouse gases (GHG) such as CO2 and CH4, measuring the Earth’s radiation budget (ERB), and monitoring solar spectral irradiance (SSI) at the top-of-atmosphere (TOA). It epitomizes an advancement in CubeSat technology, showcasing its enhanced capabilities for comprehensive Earth observation. Scheduled for launch in 2025, the satellite carries a compact and miniaturized near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer capable of performing observations in both nadir and solar directions within the wavelength range of 1100 to 2000 nm, with a spectral resolution of 7 nm and a 0.15° field of view. This study outlines the preflight calibration process of the Uvsq-Sat NG NIR spectrometer (UNIS), with a focus on the spectral response function and the absolute calibration of the instrument. The absolute scale of the UNIS spectrometer was accurately calibrated with a quartz-halogen lamp featuring a coiled-coil tungsten filament, certified by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a standard of spectral irradiance. Furthermore, this study details the ground-based measurements of direct SSI through atmospheric NIR windows conducted with the UNIS spectrometer. The measurements were obtained at the Pommier site (45.54°N, 0.83°W) in Charentes–Maritimes (France) on 9 May 2024. The objective of these measurements was to verify the absolute calibration of the UNIS spectrometer conducted in the laboratory and to provide an extraterrestrial solar spectrum using the Langley-plot technique. By extrapolating the data to AirMass Zero (AM0), we obtained high-precision results that show excellent agreement with SOLAR-HRS and TSIS-1 HSRS solar spectra. At 1.6 μm, the SSI was determined to be 238.59 ± 3.39 mW.m−2.nm−1 (k = 2). These results demonstrate the accuracy and reliability of the UNIS spectrometer for both SSI observations and GHG measurements, providing a solid foundation for future orbital data collection and analysis.

Image-based robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) allows three-dimensional surgical planning informed by osseous anatomy, with intraoperative adjustment based on a dynamic assessment of ligament laxity and gap balance. The aim of this study was to identify ranges of implant alignment and bone resections with RA-TKA. We retrospectively reviewed 484 primary RA-TKA cases, stratified by preoperative coronal alignment. Demographics and intraoperative data were collected and compared using Chi-square and ANOVA tests. Planned limb, femoral, and tibial alignment became increasingly varus in a progressive order from valgus to neutral to the highest in varus knees (p < 0.001). Planned external transverse rotation relative to the TEA was lowest in the valgus cohort; relative to the PCA, whereas the varus cohort was highest (p < 0.001, both). Planned resections of the lateral distal femur and of the medial posterior femur were greater in the varus group compared to neutral and valgus (p < 0.001). There were significant differences between cohorts in planned tibia resections, laterally and medially. Varus knees demonstrated higher variability, while valgus and neutral had more metrics with low variability. This study demonstrated trends in intraoperative planned alignment and resection metrics across various preoperative coronal knee alignments. These findings contribute to the understanding of RA-TKA and may inform surgical decision-making.

Detecting road cracks is essential for inspecting and assessing the integrity of concrete pavement structures. Traditional image-based methods often require complex preprocessing to extract crack features, making them challenging when dealing with noisy concrete surfaces in diverse real-world scenarios, such as autonomous vehicle road detection. This study introduces an image-based crack detection approach that combines a Random Forest machine learning classifier with a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) to address these challenges. Three state-of-the-art models, namely MobileNet, InceptionV3, and Xception, were employed and trained using a dataset of 30,000 images to build an effective CNN. A systematic comparison of validation accuracy across various base learning rates identified a base learning rate of 0.001 as optimal, achieving a maximum validation accuracy of 99.97%. This optimal learning rate was then applied in the subsequent testing phase. The robustness and flexibility of the trained models were evaluated using 6,000 test photos, each with a resolution of 224 × 224 pixels, which were not part of the training or validation sets. The outstanding results, boasting a remarkable 99.95% accuracy, 99.95% precision, 99.94% recall, and a matching 99.94% F1 Score, unequivocally affirm the efficacy of the proposed technique in precisely identifying road fractures in photographs taken on real concrete surfaces.

This paper introduces new versions of Hermite–Hadamard, midpoint- and trapezoid-type inequalities involving fractional integral operators with exponential kernels. We explore these inequalities for differentiable convex functions and demonstrate their connections with classical integrals. This paper validates the derived inequalities through a numerical example with graphical representations and provides some practical applications, highlighting their relevance to special means. This study presents novel results, offering new insights into classical integrals as the fractional order β approaches 1, in addition to the fractional integrals we examined.

Due to low susceptibility of coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) in children, limited studies are available regarding COVID-19 in the pediatric population in Tunisia. The current study evaluated the incidence, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among children hospitalized at Béchir Hamza Children’s Hospital. A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted using the hospital database between March 2020 and February 2022 with children aged ≤15 years with SARS-CoV-2 infection (confirmed by RT-PCR). A total of 327 COVID-19 hospitalized patients with a mean age of 3.3 years were included; the majority were male. Neurological disease (20%) was the most common comorbidity, while fever (95.3%) followed by cough (43.7%) and dyspnea (39.6%) were the most frequent symptoms reported. Severe disease with oxygen requirement occurred in 30% of the patients; 13% were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. The overall incidence rate of COVID-19 hospitalization (in Tunis governorates) was 77.02 per 100,000 while the inpatient case fatality rate was 5% in the study population. The most prevalent circulating variant during our study period was Delta (48.8%), followed by Omicron (26%). More than 45% of the study population were n = 25, 26.5%) had at least one comorbidity. Thus, the study findings highlight the high disease burden of COVID-19 in infants.

Monitoring atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases (GHGs) like carbon dioxide and methane in near real time and with good spatial resolution is crucial for enhancing our understanding of the sources and sinks of these gases. A novel approach can be proposed using a constellation of small satellites equipped with miniaturized spectrometers having a spectral resolution of a few nanometers. The objective of this study is to describe expected results that can be obtained with a single satellite named Uvsq-Sat NG. The SolAtmos end-to-end simulator and its three tools (IRIS, OptiSpectra, and GHGRetrieval) were developed to evaluate the performance of the spectrometer of the Uvsq-Sat NG mission, which focuses on measuring the main GHGs. The IRIS tool was implemented to provide Top-Of-Atmosphere (TOA) spectral radiances. Four scenes were analyzed (pine forest, deciduous forest, ocean, snow) combined with different aerosol types (continental, desert, maritime, urban). Simulated radiance spectra were calculated based on the wavelength ranges of the Uvsq-Sat NG, which spans from 1200 to 2000 nm. The OptiSpectra tool was used to determine optimal observational settings for the spectrometer, including Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and integration time. Data derived from IRIS and OptiSpectra served as input for our GHGRetrieval simulation tool, developed to provide greenhouse gas concentrations. The Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm was applied iteratively to fine-tune gas concentrations and model inputs, aligning observed transmittance functions with simulated ones under given environmental conditions. To estimate gas concentrations (CO2, CH4, O2, H2O) and their uncertainties, the Monte Carlo method was used. Based on this analysis, this study demonstrates that a miniaturized spectrometer onboard Uvsq-Sat NG is capable of observing different scenes by adjusting its integration time according to the wavelength. The expected precision for each measurement is of the order of a few ppm for carbon dioxide and less than 25 ppb for methane.

Building upon previous research in conformable fractional calculus, this study introduces a novel identity. Using this identity as a foundation, we derive a set of conformable fractional Milne-type inequalities specifically designed for differentiable convex functions. The obtained results recover some existing inequalities in the literature by fixing some parameters. These novel contributions aim to enrich the analytical tools available for studying convex functions within the realm of conformable fractional calculus. The derived inequalities reflect an inherent symmetry characteristic of the Milne formula, further illustrating the balanced and harmonious mathematical structure within these frameworks. We provide a thorough example with graphical representations to support our findings, offering both numerical insights and visual confirmation of the established inequalities.

In this manuscript, by using a new identity, we establish some new Maclaurin-type inequalities for functions whose modulus of the first derivatives are GA-convex functions via Hadamard fractional integrals.

This paper’s major goal is to prove some symmetrical Maclaurin-type integral inequalities inside the framework of multiplicative calculus. In order to accomplish this and after giving some basic tools, we have established a new integral identity. Based on this identity, some symmetrical Maclaurin-type inequalities have been constructed for functions whose multiplicative derivatives are bounded as well as convex. At the end, some applications to special means are provided.

In this article, closed Newton–Cotes-type symmetrical inequalities involving four-point functions whose second derivatives are (s,m)-preinvex in the second sense are established. Some applications to quadrature formulas as well as inequalities involving special means are provided.

In this work, by using the iterative method, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of solutions for multiterm fractional boundary value problems. Next, we examine some existence and uniqueness returns for semilinear fractional differential inclusions and equations for multiterm problems by using some notions and properties on set-valued maps and give some examples to explain our main results. We explore and use in this paper the fundamental properties of set-valued maps, which are needed for the study of differential inclusions. It began only in the mid-1900s, when mathematicians realized that their uses go far beyond a mere generalization of single-valued maps.

A certain class of nonlinear differential equations representing a generalized Van der Pol oscillator is proposed in which we study the behavior of the existing solution. After using the appropriate variables, the first Levinson’s change converts the equations into a system with two equations, and the second converts these systems into a Lipschitzian system. Our main result is obtained by applying the Second Bogolubov’s Theorem. We established some integrals, which are used to compute the average function of this system and arrive at a new general condition for the existence of an asymptotically stable unique periodic solution. One of the well-known results regarding asymptotic stability appears, owing to the Second Bogolubov’s Theorem, and the advantage of this method is that it can be applied not only in the periodic dynamical systems, but also in non-almost periodic dynamical systems.

Climate change is undeniably one of the most pressing and critical challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. In this context, monitoring the Earth’s Energy Imbalance (EEI) is fundamental in conjunction with greenhouse gases (GHGs) in order to comprehensively understand and address climate change. The French Uvsq-Sat NG pathfinder mission addresses this issue through the implementation of a Six-Unit CubeSat, which has dimensions of 111.3 × 36.6 × 38.8 cm in its unstowed configuration. Uvsq-Sat NG is a satellite mission spearheaded by the Laboratoire Atmosphères, Observations Spatiales (LATMOS), and supported by the International Satellite Program in Research and Education (INSPIRE). The launch of this mission is planned for 2025. One of the Uvsq-Sat NG objectives is to ensure the smooth continuity of the Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) initiated via the Uvsq-Sat and Inspire-Sat satellites. Uvsq-Sat NG seeks to achieve broadband ERB measurements using state-of-the-art yet straightforward technologies. Another goal of the Uvsq-Sat NG mission is to conduct precise and comprehensive monitoring of atmospheric gas concentrations (CO2 and CH4) on a global scale and to investigate its correlation with Earth’s Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR). Uvsq-Sat NG carries several payloads, including Earth Radiative Sensors (ERSs) for monitoring incoming solar radiation and outgoing terrestrial radiation. A Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectrometer is onboard to assess GHGs’ atmospheric concentrations through observations in the wavelength range of 1200 to 2000 nm. Uvsq-Sat NG also includes a high-definition camera (NanoCam) designed to capture images of the Earth in the visible range. The NanoCam will facilitate data post-processing acquired via the spectrometer by ensuring accurate geolocation of the observed scenes. It will also offer the capability of observing the Earth’s limb, thus providing the opportunity to roughly estimate the vertical temperature profile of the atmosphere. We present here the scientific objectives of the Uvsq-Sat NG mission, along with a comprehensive overview of the CubeSat platform’s concepts and payload properties as well as the mission’s current status. Furthermore, we also describe a method for the retrieval of atmospheric gas columns (CO2, CH4, O2, H2O) from the Uvsq-Sat NG NIR Spectrometer data. The retrieval is based on spectra simulated for a range of environmental conditions (surface pressure, surface reflectance, vertical temperature profile, mixing ratios of primary gases, water vapor, other trace gases, cloud and aerosol optical depth distributions) as well as spectrometer characteristics (Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and spectral resolution from 1 to 6 nm).

In this paper, we first prove a new parameterized identity. Based on this identity we establish some parametrized Simpson-like type symmetric inequalities, for functions whose first derivatives are s-tgs-convex via Reimann–Liouville frational operators. Some special cases are discussed. Applications to numerical quadrature are provided.

The solar spectrum at the top of the atmosphere contains crucial data for solar physics, astronomy, and geophysics. Accurately determining high-resolution solar reference spectra, whether they are disk-integrated, disk-center, or intermediate cases, represents a new challenge and is of primary importance for all applications where spectral solar radiation needs to be evaluated. These spectra are also essential for interpreting remote sensing measurements that rely on sunlight, such as those obtained by Earth observation satellites or spacecraft exploring other planets. This paper lays a foundation for the implementation of multiple new solar irradiance reference spectra that have high resolution and are representative of solar minimum conditions. We developed the SOLAR high-resolution extraterrestrial reference spectra (SOLAR-HRS disk-integrated spectra) by normalizing high-spectral-resolution solar line data to the absolute irradiance scale of the SOLAR-ISS reference spectrum. The resulting one-of-a-kind SOLAR-HRS disk-integrated spectrum has a spectral resolution varying between 0.001 and 1 nm in the 0.5–4400 nm wavelength range. We also implemented a new high-resolution solar spectrum at the disk-center, covering a range of 650–4400 nm with a spectral resolution of 0.001 to 0.02 nm. We further expanded our analysis by producing several solar spectra for ten different solar view angles ranging from μ = 0.9 to μ = 0.05 (SOLAR-HRS intermediate cases). Finally, we developed new Merged Parallelised Simplified ATLAS spectra (MPS-ATLAS) based on solar modeling with Kurucz and Vald3 solar linelists for both the disk-integrated and disk-center spectra. One of the objectives of implementing all these new solar spectra is to fulfill the requirements of the MicroCarb space mission, which focuses on measuring greenhouse gas emissions. The solar data of this study are openly available.

To better extract the tides represented in the European meteorological analysis ERA5, an analysis of the histograms of the diurnal and semi-diurnal modes as a function of longitudes was performed. This analysis revealed that modes with different characteristics appeared regionally along a single longitude. Retrieved migrating tides were compared with a tidal model showing global agreement below 60 km and twice the amplitude in meteorological analyses at mid-latitude. Non-migrating tidal modes have been identified along the tropical band. They logically appear above the convective zones, probably due to water vapor excess. Their characteristics are different from migrating components. This preliminary study has shown that it is necessary to develop additional observations allowing for more frequent sampling to retrieve migrating and non-migrating tides that can only be achieved with satellite constellations from space.

The photocatalytic degradation process and absorption kinetics of the aqueous solution of the Cibacron Brilliant Yellow 3G-P dye (Y) were investigated under UV-Vis light. Pure barium titanate BaTiO3 (BT) and cobalt ion-substituted barium Ba1−xCoxTiO3 (x = 0, …, 1) nano-compound powders (BCT) were synthesized using the sol–gel method and colloidal solution destabilization, and utilized as photocatalysts. The powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) crystal structure analysis of the BT nanoparticles (NPs) revealed a prominent reflection corresponding to the perovskite structure. However, impurities and secondary phase distributions were qualitatively identified in the PXRD patterns for x ≥ 0.2 of cobalt substitution rate. Rietveld refinements of the PXRD data showed that the BCT nano-compound series undergoes a transition from perovskite structure to isomorphous ilmenite-type rhombohedral CoTiO3 (CT) ceramic. The nanoparticles produced displayed robust chemical interactions, according to a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. The BT and BCT nanoparticles had secondary hexagonal phases that matched the PXRD results and small aggregated, more spherically shaped particles with sizes ranging from 30 to 114 nm, according to transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Following a thorough evaluation of BCT nano-compounds with (x = 0.6), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) compositional elemental analysis revealed random distributions of cobalt ions. Through optical analysis of the photoluminescence spectra (PL), the electronic structure, charge carriers, defects, and energy transfer mechanisms of the compounds were examined. Due to the cobalt ions being present in the BT lattice, the UV-visible absorption spectra of BCT showed a little red-shift in the absorption curves when compared to pure BT samples. The electrical and optical characteristics of materials, such as their photon absorption coefficient, can be gathered from their UV-visible spectra. The photocatalytic reaction is brought about by the electron–hole pairs produced by this absorption. The estimated band gap energies of the examined compounds, which are in the range of 3.79 to 2.89 eV, are intriguing and require more investigation into their potential as UV photocatalysts. These nano-ceramics might be able to handle issues with pollution and impurities, such as the breakdown of organic contaminants and the production of hydrogen from water.

Anaerobic digestion is considered a beneficial treatment for biogas production (BP). To improve the performance of this bioprocess, the addition of well-selected inocula could be an interesting approach that affects the overall efficiency of the BP. In this study, the reactor performance and energy analysis of liquid-state anaerobic digestion of cattle manure (CM) at high solids concentration (TS%) (94.87%) with six different inocula—two cellulosic (C.I1, C.I2), one lipidic (Li.I), two lactic (La.I1, La.I2), and one saccharidic (Sacc.I)—were investigated. The results showed that inocula improved the biogas production and yield during anaerobic digestion of CM by 109%, 86%, and 52.4%, respectively, when the cellulosic (C.I1), lipidic (Li.I), and lactic (La.I1) inocula were added, compared with the substrate production alone at a substrate/inoculum (S/I) ratio of 5:3 (v/v). The addition of inocula in an appropriate range is useful for the performance of the anaerobic digestion process. In our study, the 16S rRNA sequencing approach was followed to investigate microbial community structure and diversity in the substrate CM and the three inocula that showed a significant improvement in biogas production (C.I1, Li.I, and La.I). The most abundant bacterial populations were found to be Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteria, with different abundance percentages. Interestingly, C.I1, which resulted in the highest biogas production, showed the dominance of Cyanobacteria (53.44%) belonging mainly to the class Nostocophycidae. This study highlighted the role of inocula in improving biogas production from cattle manure (CM) thanks to their microbial diversity.

Integral inequalities are a powerful tool for estimating errors of quadrature formulas. In this study, some symmetric dual Simpson type integral inequalities for the classes of s-convex, bounded and Lipschitzian functions are proposed. The obtained results are based on a new identity and the use of some standard techniques such as Hölder as well as power mean inequalities. We give at the end some applications to the estimation of quadrature rules and to particular means.

Point mutations are common in the human DNA genome and are closely related to higher susceptibility to cancer diseases. Therefore, suitable methods for their sensing are of general interest. In this work, we report on a magnetic electrochemical bioassay using DNA probes tethered to streptavidin magnetic beads (strep-MBs) to detect T > G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) within the inteleukin-6 (IL6) gene in human genomic DNA. In the presence of the target DNA fragment and tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), the electrochemical signal related to the oxidation of TMB is observed, which is much higher than the one obtained in the absence of the target. The key parameters affecting the analytical signal, such as the concentration of the biotinylated probe, its incubation time with strep-MBs, DNA hybridization time, and TMB loading, were optimized using the electrochemical signal intensity and signal-to-blank (S/B) ratio as selection criteria. Using spiked buffer solutions, the bioassay can detect the mutated allele in a wide range of concentrations (over six decades) with a low detection limit (7.3 fM). Furthermore, the bioassay displays a high specificity with high concentrations of the major allele (one mismatched), and two mismatched and non–complementary DNA. More importantly, the bioassay can detect the variation in scarcely diluted human DNA, collected from 23 donors, and can reliably distinguish between heterozygous (TG genotype) and homozygous (GG genotype) in respect to the control subjects (TT genotype), where the differences are statistically highly significant (p-value < 0.001). Thus, the bioassay is useful for cohort studies targeting one or more mutations in human DNA.

This study aims to construct some new Milne-type integral inequalities for functions whose modulus of the local fractional derivatives is convex on the fractal set. To that end, we develop a novel generalized integral identity involving first-order generalized derivatives. Finally, as applications, some error estimates for the Milne-type quadrature formula and new inequalities for the generalized arithmetic and p-Logarithmic means are derived. This paper’s findings represent a significant improvement over previously published results. The paper’s ideas and formidable tools may inspire and motivate further research in this worthy and fascinating field.

Multiplicative calculus, also called non-Newtonian calculus, represents an alternative approach to the usual calculus of Newton (1643–1727) and Leibniz (1646–1716). This type of calculus was first introduced by Grossman and Katz and it provides a defined calculation, from the start, for positive real numbers only. In this investigation, we propose to study symmetrical fractional multiplicative inequalities of the Simpson type. For this, we first establish a new fractional identity for multiplicatively differentiable functions. Based on that identity, we derive new Simpson-type inequalities for multiplicatively convex functions via fractional integral operators. We finish the study by providing some applications to analytic inequalities.

Various scholars have lately employed a wide range of strategies to resolve specific types of symmetrical fractional differential equations. In this paper, we propose a new fractional identity for multiplicatively differentiable functions; based on this identity, we establish some new fractional multiplicative Bullen-type inequalities for multiplicative differentiable convex functions. Some applications of the obtained results are given.

In the present paper, we first prove a new integral identity. Using that identity, we establish some fractional weighted midpoint-type inequalities for functions whose first derivatives are extended s-convex. Some special cases are discussed. Finally, to prove the effectiveness of our main results, we provide some applications to numerical integration as well as special means.

Decentralized identity (DID) systems aim to give users full control over their identities by using completely decentralized technologies, such as blockchain or distributed ledgers, as identity providers. However, when user credentials are compromised, it is impossible in existing DID systems for the users to detect credential misuse. In this paper, we propose new DID authentication protocols with two properties: auditability and privacy. The former enables the detection of malicious authentication events, while the latter prevents an adversary from linking an authentication event to the corresponding user and service provider. We present two protocols that achieve auditability with varying privacy and performance guarantees. The first protocol has high performance, but it reveals information about the user. The second protocol achieves full privacy, but it incurs a higher performance overhead. We present a formal security analysis of our privacy-preserving protocols by using the Tamarin prover. We implemented them and evaluated their performance with a permissioned blockchain deployed over the Amazon AWS and a local cloud infrastructure. The results demonstrate that the first protocol is able to support realistic authentication workloads, while the second is nearly practical.

The goal of emotional voice conversion (EVC) is to convert the emotion of a speaker’s voice from one state to another while maintaining the original speaker’s identity and the linguistic substance of the message. Research on EVC in the Arabic language is well behind that conducted on languages with a wider distribution, such as English. The primary objective of this study is to determine whether Arabic emotions may be converted using a model trained for another language. In this work, we used an unsupervised many-to-many non-parallel generative adversarial network (GAN) voice conversion (VC) model called StarGANv2-VC to perform an Arabic EVC (A-EVC). The latter is realized by using pre-trained phoneme-level automatic speech recognition (ASR) and fundamental frequency (F0) models in the English language. The generated voice is evaluated by prosody and spectrum conversion in addition to automatic emotion recognition and speaker identification using a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN). The results of the evaluation indicated that male voices were scored higher than female voices and that the evaluation score for the conversion from neutral to other emotions was higher than the evaluation scores for the conversion of other emotions.

The present paper provides several corrected dual-Simpson-type inequalities for functions whose local fractional derivatives are generalized convex. To that end, we derive a new local fractional integral identity as an auxiliary result. Using this new identity along with generalized Hölder’s inequality and generalized power mean inequality, we establish some new variants of fractal corrected dual-Simpson-type integral inequalities. Furthermore, some applications for error estimates of quadrature formulas as well as some special means involving arithmetic and p-logarithmic mean are offered to demonstrate the efficacy of our findings.

Background: Actually, no data on the prevalence of plasmid colistin resistance in Tunisia are available among clinical bacteria. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the current epidemiology of colistin resistance and the spread of the mcr gene in clinical Gram-negative bacteria (GNB) isolated from six Tunisian university hospitals. Methods: A total of 836 GNB strains were inoculated on COL-R agar plates with selective screening agar for the isolation of GNB resistant to colistin. For the selected isolates, mcr genes, beta-lactamases associated-resistance genes and molecular characterisation were screened by PCRs and sequencing. Results: Colistin-resistance was detected in 5.02% (42/836) of the isolates and colistin-resistant isolates harboured an ESBL (blaCTX-M-15) and/or a carbapenemase (blaOXA-48, blaVIM) encoding gene in 45.2% of the cases. The mcr-1 gene was detected in four E. coli isolates (0.59%) causing urinary tract infections and all these isolates also contained the blaTEM-1 gene. The blaCTX-M-15 gene was detected in three isolates that also carried the IncY and IncFIB replicons. The genetic environment surrounding the mcr-carrying plasmid indicated the presence of pap-2 gene upstream mcr-1 resistance marker with unusual missing of ISApl1 insertion sequence. The Conclusions: This study reports the first description of the mcr-1 gene among clinical E. coli isolates in Tunisia and provides an incentive to conduct routine colistin susceptibility testing in GNB clinical isolates.

Remote sensing sensors-based image processing techniques have been widely applied in non-destructive quality inspection systems of agricultural crops. Image processing and analysis were performed with computer vision and external grading systems by general and standard steps, such as image acquisition, pre-processing and segmentation, extraction and classification of image characteristics. This paper describes the design and implementation of a real-time fresh fruit bunch (FFB) maturity classification system for palm oil based on unrestricted remote sensing (CCD camera sensor) and image processing techniques using five multivariate techniques (statistics, histograms, Gabor wavelets, GLCM and BGLAM) to extract fruit image characteristics and incorporate information on palm oil species classification FFB and maturity testing. To optimize the proposed solution in terms of performance reporting and processing time, supervised classifiers, such as support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and artificial neural network (ANN), were performed and evaluated via ROC and AUC measurements. The experimental results showed that the FFB classification system of non-destructive palm oil maturation in real time provided a significant result. Although the SVM classifier is generally a robust classifier, ANN has better performance due to the natural noise of the data. The highest precision was obtained on the basis of the ANN and BGLAM algorithms applied to the texture of the fruit. In particular, the robust image processing algorithm based on BGLAM feature extraction technology and the ANN classifier largely provided a high AUC test accuracy of over 93% and an image-processing time of 0,44 (s) for the detection of FFB palm oil species.

Following recent advancements in deep learning and artificial intelligence, spoken language identification applications are playing an increasingly significant role in our day-to-day lives, especially in the domain of multi-lingual speech recognition. In this article, we propose a spoken language identification system that depends on the sequence of feature vectors. The proposed system uses a hybrid Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN), which combines a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) network, for spoken language identification on seven languages, including Arabic, chosen from subsets of the Mozilla Common Voice (MCV) corpus. The proposed system exploits the advantages of both CNN and RNN architectures to construct the CRNN architecture. At the feature extraction stage, it compares the Gammatone Cepstral Coefficient (GTCC) feature and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) feature, as well as a combination of both. Finally, the speech signals were represented as frames and used as the input for the CRNN architecture. After conducting experiments, the results of the proposed system indicate higher performance with combined GTCC and MFCC features compared to GTCC or MFCC features used individually. The average accuracy of the proposed system was 92.81% in the best experiment for spoken language identification. Furthermore, the system can learn language-specific patterns in various filter size representations of speech files.

Masked issues can emerge when dealing with competing risk data. Such issues are exemplified by the cause of a particular failure not being directly exhibited for all units to observe but only proven to be a subset of possible causes of failure. For assessing the impact of explanatory variables (covariates) on the cumulative incidence function (CIF), a process of Bayesian analysis is discussed in this paper. The symmetry assumption is not imposed on the masking probabilities and independent Dirichlet priors assigned to them. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique is utilized to implement the Bayesian analysis. The effectiveness of the developed model is tested via numerical studies, including simulated and real data sets.

A climatology of Mesospheric Inversion Layers (MIL) has been created using the Rayleigh lidar located in the south of France at L’Observatoire de Haute Provence (OHP). Using criteria based on lidar measurement uncertainties and climatological mean gravity wave amplitudes, we have selected significant large temperature anomalies that can be associated with MILs. We have tested a novel approach for classifying MILs based on a k-mean clustering technique. We supplied different parameters such as the MIL amplitudes, altitudes, vertical extension, and lapse rate and allowed the computer to classify each individual MIL into one of three clusters or classes. For this first proof of concept study, we selected k = 3 and arrived at three distinct MIL clusters, each of which can be associated with different processes generating MILs in different regimes. All clusters of MIL exhibit a strong seasonal cycle with the largest occurrence in winter. The four decades of measurements do not reveal any long-term changes that can be associated with climate changes and only show an inter-annual variability with a quasi-decadal oscillation.

The appealing properties of secure hardware solutions such as trusted execution environment (TEE) including low computational overhead, confidentiality guarantee, and reduced attack surface have prompted considerable interest in adopting them for secure stream processing applications. In this paper, we revisit the design of parallel stream join algorithms on multicore processors with TEEs. In particular, we conduct a series of profiling experiments to investigate the impact of alternative design choices to parallelize stream joins on TEE including: (1) execution approaches, (2) partitioning schemes, and (3) distributed scheduling strategies. From the profiling study, we observe three major high-performance impediments: (a) the computational overhead introduced with cryptographic primitives associated with page swapping operations, (b) the restrictive Enclave Page Cache (EPC) size that limits the supported amount of in-memory processing, and (c) the lack of vertical scalability to support the increasing workload often required for near real-time applications. Addressing these issues allowed us to design SecJoin, a more efficient parallel stream join algorithm that exploits modern scale-out architectures with TEEs rendering no trade-offs on security whilst optimizing performance. We present our model-driven parameterization of SecJoin and share our experimental results which have shown up to 4-folds of improvements in terms of throughput and latency.

In this work, a self-powered, solar-blind photodetector, based on InZnSnO (IZTO) as a Schottky contact, was deposited on the top of Si-doped β-Ga2O3 by the sputtering of two-faced targets with InSnO (ITO) as an ohmic contact. A detailed numerical simulation was performed by using the measured J–V characteristics of IZTO/β-Ga2O3 Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) in the dark. Good agreement between the simulation and the measurement was achieved by studying the effect of the IZTO workfunction, β-Ga2O3 interfacial layer (IL) electron affinity, and the concentrations of interfacial traps. The IZTO/β-Ga2O3 (SBDs) was tested at a wavelength of 255 nm with the photo power density of 1 mW/cm2. A high photo-to-dark current ratio of 3.70×105 and a photoresponsivity of 0.64 mA/W were obtained at 0 V as self-powered operation. Finally, with increasing power density the photocurrent increased, and a 17.80 mA/W responsivity under 10 mW/cm2 was obtained.

Given the pervasive use of satellite and over the horizon wireless communication technology in modern society, ionospheric disturbances that can disrupt such services are a crucial consideration. Ionospheric irregularities, plasma bubbles and other phenomena can have a great impact on satellite navigation and communications, impacting other systems reliant on such technologies. The Ionospheric Dynamics and Attitude Subsystem Satellite (IDEASSat) was a 3U developed by National Central University (NCU) to measure irregularities in the ionosphere, as well as to establish spacecraft engineering and operations capacity at NCU. The onboard Compact Ionospheric Probe (CIP) could measure high-resolution plasma parameters, which can be used for identifying ionospheric irregularities that can cause scintillation in satellite navigation and communications signals. Part of the spacecraft sub-systems were independently designed and developed by students, who were also responsible for integration, testing, and operations. IDEASSat was successfully launched into low Earth orbit on 24 January 2021, and then began mission operations. The spacecraft successfully demonstrated three-axis attitude stabilization and control, tracking, telemetry and command (TT&C), as well as flight software and ground systems that could support autonomous operation. The spacecraft experienced a critical anomaly 22 days after launch, followed by a 1.5-month communications blackout. The spacecraft briefly recovered from the blackout for long enough to replay flight data, which allowed for the cause of the blackout to be determined as an inability of the electrical power subsystem reset circuit to recover from an ionizing radiation induced single event latch-up. Although the mission was not completed, flight data obtained during the mission will help to improve the designs of future spacecraft in development at NCU. This paper will introduce IDEASSat’s final flight model design and implementation, integration, testing, environmental verification, and failure analysis, and will review the performance of the spacecraft during on-orbit operations. The results and experiences encountered in implementation and operations of the IDEASSat mission are presented here as a reference for other university small satellite teams.
