Due to the oncoming climate changes, various environmental stresses (drought, salinity, heavy-metals, low or high temperatures, etc.) might dramatically affect crop yields and the quality of produced foods. Therefore, to meet the growing food demand of the human population, improvement of stress tolerance of the currently cultured crops is required. The knowledge of the molecular underlying mechanisms provides a versatile instrument to correct plant metabolism via chemical tools and to thereby increase their adaptive potential. This will preserve crop productivity and quality under abiotic stress conditions. Endogenously produced nitric oxide (NO) is one of the key signaling factors activating stress tolerance mechanisms in plants. Thus, the application of synthetic NO donors as stress-protective phytoeffectors might support maintaining plant growth and productivity under stressful conditions. Sydnone imines (sydnonimines) are a class of clinically established mesoionic heterocyclic NO donors which represent a promising candidate group for such phytoeffectors. Therefore, here, we provide an overview of the current progress in the application of sydnone imines as exogenous NO donors in plants, with a special emphasis on their potential as herbicides as well as herbicide antidotes, growth stimulants and stress protectors triggering plant tolerance mechanisms. We specifically address the structure–activity relationships in the context of the growth modulating activity of sydnone imines. Growth stimulating or antidote effects are typical for 4-α-hydroxybenzyl derivatives of sydnone imines containing an alkyl substituent in position N-3. The nature of the substituent of the N-6 atom has a significant influence on the activity profile and the intensity of the effect. Nevertheless, further investigations are necessary to establish reliable structure–activity relationships (SAR). Consequently, sydnone imines might be considered promising phytoeffector candidates, which are expected to exert either protective effects on plants growing under unfavorable conditions, or herbicidal ones, depending on the exact structure.

Properties of the broad line region (BLR) in active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are commonly used to estimate the mass of the supermassive black hole (SMBH) that powers an AGN. However, the understanding of the physics behind the BLR remains incomplete. The AGNs exhibit strong optical variability, observed in the change of the profiles and fluxes of broad emission lines. Utilizing this variability provides an opportunity to constrain the physics of the BLR, and understand the interplay of the BLR with SMBH and surrounding regions. Here, we present the long-term monitoring campaign of a sample of the known broad-line AGNs (identified as LoTerm AGN). The aim of this study is to show the importance of sustained and dedicated campaigns that continually collect spectroscopic data of the known AGNs over extended timescales, providing unique insight into the origin and structure of the BLR. LoTerm AGN is a collaborative network of seven moderate-size telescopes equipped for spectroscopy. We focus on the recent spectral data of the known changing-look AGN, NGC 3516. Specifically, we examine the broad hydrogen Balmer Hα line observed in the period 2020–2023, demonstrating that this AGN remains active with the BLR signatures observed in the spectra. No significant change in the broad line profile of Hα line is observed during this recent period.

Objectives: The most important phase in the endometrial pathologies diagnostics is the histological examination of tissue biopsies obtained under visual hysteroscopic control. However, the unclear visual diagnostics characteristics of subtle focal endometrial pathologies often lead to selection errors regarding suspicious endometrial lesions and to a subsequent false pathological diagnosis/underestimation of precancer or early-stage cancer. Methods: In this study, we investigate the potential of Multimodal Optical Coherence Tomography (MM OCT) to verify suspicious endometrial lesion regions before biopsy collection. We study the polarization (by cross-polarization OCT, CP OCT) and elastic (by compression OCT-elastography, C-OCE) properties of ex vivo endometrial tissue samples in normal conditions (proliferative and secretory phases to the menstrual cycle, atrophic endometrium) with endometrial hyperplasia (non-atypical and endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia) and endometrial cancer subtypes (low-grade, high-grade, clear cell and serous). Results: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first quantitative assessment of relevant OCT parameters (depth-resolved attenuation coefficient in co-[Att(co) values] and cross-[(Att(cross) values] polarizations and Young’s elastic modulus [stiffness values]) for the selection of the most objective criteria to identify the clinically significant endometrial pathologies: endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia and endometrial cancer. The study demonstrates the possibility of detecting endometrial pathologies and establishing optimal threshold values of MM OCT criteria for the identification of endometrial cancer using CP OCT (by Att(co) values = 3.69 mm−1, Sensitivity (Se) = 86.1%, Specificity (Sp) = 92.6%; by Att(cross) values = 2.27 mm−1, Se = 86.8%, Sp = 87.0%) and C-OCE (by stiffness values = 122 kPa, Se = 93.2%, Sp = 91.1%). The study also differentiates endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia from non-atypical endometrial hyperplasia and normal endometrium using C-OCE (by stiffness values = 95 kPa, Se = 87.2%, Sp = 90.1%). Conclusions: The results are indicative of the efficacy and potential of clinical implementation of in vivo hysteroscopic-like MM OCT in the diagnosis of endometrial pathologies.

An increase in the yield of the main cereal crops in the context of global climate changes requires additional impacts on plants. Natural and synthetic plant growth regulators (PGRs) are used to increase plant productivity and reduce the injury level caused by abiotic stressors. There is a growing need for novel highly effective plant growth stimulants to exhibit their effects at low doses and to not pose an environmental threat or injury to the crop quality. The derivatives of sydnone imine (SI), a mesoionic heterocycle possessing a 1,2,3-oxadiazole core, have been used as medicines until now but have not been used for agricultural applications. Some SI derivatives have recently been found to exhibit PGR properties. Herein, we report on the study of the PGR potential of nine SI derivatives bearing variable substituents at N(3), C(4), and N6 positions of the heterocycle designed to disclose the “molecular structure-PGR activity” relationship in this family. The SI derivatives were used in a wide concentration range (10−9–10−4 mol/L) for a pre-sowing treatment of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L., two cultivars) and maize (Zea mays L., two hybrids) seeds in germinating experiments. All compounds were found to affect the growth of the axial organs of germinants, with the growth-stimulating or -inhibitory effect as well as its rate being considerably different for wheat and maize and, in many cases, also for roots and shoots. In addition, a pronounced concentration dependence of the effect was disclosed for many cases. The features of the molecular structure of SIs affecting their growth-regulating properties were elucidated. Compounds 4, 6, 7, and 8, which had exhibited a growth-promoting effect in germinating experiments, were used at appropriate concentrations for pot experiments on the same crops. For all compounds, the experiments showed a stimulating effect on the growth of roots (up to 80%), shoots (up to 112%), leaf area (up to 113%), fresh weights of roots (up to 83%), and aerial parts of the plants (up to 87%) or only on some of these parameters. The obtained results show a healthy outlook for the use of SI derivatives as promoting agents for improving the growth of cereal crop plants.

Dose-intensive cytostatic therapy and antibiotic treatment in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) cause severe abnormalities in a composition of gut microbiota as well as the emergence of antibiotic resistance. The data on the longitudinal recovery of major bacterial phyla and the expansion of genes associated with antibiotic resistance are limited. We collected regular stool samples during the first year after allo-HSCT from 12 adult patients with oncohematological disorders after allo-HSCT and performed 16SrRNA sequencing, multiplex PCR, conventional bacteriology and CHROMagar testing. We observed a decline in Shannon microbiota diversity index as early as day 0 of allo-HSCT (p = 0.034) before any administration of antibiotics, which persisted up to 1 year after transplantation, when the Shannon index returned to pre-transplant levels (p = 0.91). The study confirmed the previously shown decline in Bacillota (Firmicutes) genera and the expansion of E. coli/Shigella, Klebsiella and Enterococci. The recovery of Firmicutes was slower than that of other phyla and occurred only a year post-transplant. A positive correlation was observed between the expansion of E. coli/Shigella genera and blaKPC, blaCTX-M-1 and blaTEM (p < 0.001), Klebsiella spp. and blaOXA-48-like, blaNDM, blaCTX-M-1, blaTEM, and blaSHV (p < 0.001), Pseudomonas spp. and blaNDM (p = 0.002), Enterococcus spp. and blaOXA-48-like, blaNDM, blaCTX-M-1, blaSHV (p < 0.01). The correlation was observed between the expansion of Enterobacterales and and carbapenemase-positive CHROMagar samples (p < 0.001). Samples positive for carbapenem-resitant bacteria were at their maximum levels on day +30, and were gradually diminishing one year after allo-HSCT. From day +30 to +60, all isolated K. pneumoniae strains in fecal samples proved to be resistant to the main antibiotic groups (carbapenems, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, third-generation cephalosporins). One year after HSCT, we documented the spontaneous decolonization of K. pneumoniae. The sensitivity of molecular biology techniques in the search for total and antibiotic-resistant Klebsiella seems to be superior to common bacteriological cultures. Future studies should be focused on searching for novel approaches to the efficient reconstitution and/or maintenance of strictly anaerobic microbiota in oncological patients.

Background and purpose: With the emergence of linear accelerators in radiotherapy, it becomes necessary to accurately select new dosing regimens. The purpose of this study was to assess the morphological changes of spermatogenesis after radiation exposure. Materials and methods: Male Wistar rats (n = 40) were subjected to targeted ionizing radiation on a pulsed electron accelerator “NOVAC-11” with doses of 2, 8 and 12 Gy. Spermatogenesis was assessed a week later using light microscopy and immunohistochemical method (antibodies to Ki-67, Bcl-2, p53, Caspase 3). Results: A decrease in the number of normal germ cells was seen in all experimental groups, while radioresistant Sertoli and Leydig cells were barely affected. The most serious damage to the tubules and germ cells was observed in 8 and 12 Gy irradiation groups. IHC analysis of testes after irradiation showed a shift in the proliferative-apoptotic balance toward apoptosis of germ cells: a decrease in the expression levels of Ki-67 and Bcl-2, an increase in p53-positive and caspase 3-positive cells by the end of the experiment. Conclusion: Dose-dependent progressive pathomorphological changes in histoarchitectonics of the testes are traced, and a decrease in the number of germ cells is seen on the seventh day after irradiation with a pulsed electron accelerator “NOVAC-11”.

In December 2021, we presented a prototype of a fast ionosonde for vertical sounding based on the usage of publicly available radio-electronic components. This approach led to a major reduction in the cost of the created device. We called our development ION-FAST, which characterizes the key feature of the ionosonde: the possibility of continuous operation at a speed of one ionogram per second, which is required to study the rapid processes of redistribution of the electron concentration during heating experiments. In May 2022, an ionosonde for vertical sounding of the ionosphere, developed at the Radiophysical Research Institute of Nizhni Novgorod (NIRFI), was put into continuous operation at the SURA facility. This report provides a description of the improvements made to the prototype over the last year and the path to be passed from idea to implementation. The results of the first months of the prototype’s operation (especially the results of the supporting optic experiment in August 2022), as well as prospects for further use and modernization, are provided. In addition, the realization of the oblique chirp-sounding receiver prototype as an extension of the proposed diagnostic platform’s functionality, including the first results, is presented.

The development of adaptation strategies for crops under ever-changing climate conditions is a critically important food security issue. Studies of barley responses to ionising radiation showed that this evolutionarily ancient stress factor can be successfully used to identify molecular pathways involved in adaptation to a range of abiotic stressors. In order to identify potential molecular contributors to abiotic stress resilience, we examined the transcriptomic profiles of barley seedlings after exposure to γ-rays, electrons, and protons. A total of 553 unique differentially expressed genes with increased expression and 124 with decreased expression were detected. Among all types of radiation, the highest number of differentially expressed genes was observed in electron-irradiated samples (428 upregulated and 56 downregulated genes). Significant upregulation after exposure to the three types of radiation was shown by a set of ROS-responsive genes, genes involved in DNA repair, cell wall metabolism, auxin biosynthesis and signalling, as well as photosynthesis-related genes. Most of these genes are known to be involved in plant ROS-mediated responses to other abiotic stressors, especially with genotoxic components, such as heavy metals and drought. Ultimately, the modulation of molecular pathways of plant responses to ionising radiation may be a prospective tool for stress tolerance programmes.

Implantation is a modern method of administering chemotherapeutic agents, with a highly targeted effect and better patient tolerance due to the low frequency of administration. Implants are capable of controlled release, which makes them a viable alternative to infusional chemotherapy, allowing patients to enjoy a better quality of life without the need for prolonged hospitalization. Compared to subcutaneous implantation, intratumoral implantation has a number of significant advantages in terms of targeting and side effects, but this area of chemotherapy is still poorly understood in terms of clinical trials. At the same time, there are more known developments of drugs in the form of implants and injections for intratumoral administration. The disadvantages of classical intratumoral implants are the need for surgical intervention to install the system and the increased risk of tumor rupture noted by some specialists. The new generation of implants are in situ implants—systems formed in the tumor due to a phase transition (sol–gel transition) under the influence of various stimuli. Among this systems some are highly selective for a certain type of malignant neoplasm. Such systems are injected and have all the advantages of intratumoral injections, but due to the phase transition occurring in situ, they form depot forms that allow the long-term release of chemotherapeutic agents.

To clarify the sources of outer gas accretion onto disk galaxies, we study the vicinity of four interacting galaxy systems in the Hα emission line by using the scanning Fabry–Perot interferometer of the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory RAS. We find perspective accretion flows seen as ionized-gas emission filaments between the galaxies. We discuss the whole kinematics and origin of these flows.

Ionization cones and relativistic jets give us one of the most large-scale example of active galactic nuclei (AGN) influence on the surrounding gas environment in galaxies and beyond. The study of ionization cones makes it possible not only to test the predictions of the unified model of galactic activity, but also to probe galaxy gas environment and trace how the luminosity of the nucleus changes over time (a light echo). In the external galactic or even extragalactic gas ionization cones create Extended Emission-Line Regions (EELRs) which can span distances from several to hundreds kpc away a host galaxy. We review the recent results of studying the gas kinematics and its ionization properties in EELRs with a special attention to search of fading AGN radiation on the time scale few×(104−105) years.The role of modern narrow-band and integral-field surveys in these researches is also considered.

In this paper, we present a scheme for generating terahertz (THz) radiation using an array of parallel double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) subjected to a direct current (DC). The longitudinal surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in the DWCNTs are coherently excited by two near-infrared laser beams with slightly different frequencies. Through numerical methods, we investigate the spectral characteristics of the SPPs in the presence of a DC current in the nanotubes. We identify high-quality plasmonic modes with a slowdown factor exceeding 300 in the terahertz frequency region. The amplification of these slow SPP modes is facilitated by the DC current in the DWCNTs, fulfilling a synchronism condition. This condition ensures that the phase velocity of the SPPs is closely matched to the drift velocity of the charge carriers, allowing for an efficient energy exchange between the current and the surface electromagnetic wave. The high-frequency currents on the nanotube walls in the DWCNT array enable the emission of THz radiation into the far field, owing to an antenna effect.

Mrk 783 is a narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy that possesses a relatively large two-sided radio emission extending up to 14 kpc from the active nucleus possibly connected with a large-scale ionized gas emission. We obtained a deep [O iii] image that revealed an extended system of emission knots and diffuse ionized gas surrounding the main galaxy. The highly-excited gas is related not only to the radio structure, but also to tidal features illuminated by the active nucleus radiation up to the projected distance of 41 kpc as it follows from the emission lines’ intensities and kinematics derived from the long-slit spectroscopic data. Moreover, the part of the disk of the companion galaxy SDSS J130257.20+162537.1, located at ∼99 kpc projected distances to the north of Mrk 783, also falls in the AGN ionizing cone. It is possiblethat Mrk 783 can be considered as ‘Hanny’s Voorwerp precursor’, i.e., a galaxy that demonstrates signs of sequential switching from radio-loud to radio-quiet nuclear activity, in the moment before its ionization luminosity falls.

Vaginal wall prolapse is the most common type of pelvic organ prolapse and is mainly associated with collagen bundle changes in the lamina propria. Neodymium (Nd:YAG) laser treatment was used as an innovative, minimally invasive and non-ablative procedure for the treatment of early-stage vaginal wall prolapse. The purpose of this pilot study was to assess connective tissue changes in the vaginal wall under prolapse without treatment and after Nd:YAG laser treatment using cross-polarization optical coherence tomography (CP OCT) with depth-resolved attenuation mapping. A total of 26 freshly excised samples of vaginal wall from 26 patients with age norm (n = 8), stage I–II prolapses without treatment (n = 8) and stage I–II prolapse 1–2 months after Nd:YAG laser treatment (n = 10) were assessed. As a result, for the first time, depth-resolved attenuation maps of the vaginal wall in the B-scan projection in the co- and cross-polarization channels were constructed. Two parameters within the lamina propria were target calculated: the median value and the percentages of high (≥4 mm−1) and low (−1) attenuation coefficient values. A significant (p < 0.0001) decrease in the parameters in the case of vaginal wall prolapse compared to the age norm was identified. After laser treatment, a significant (p < 0.0001) increase in the parameters compared to the normal level was also observed. Notably, in the cross-channel, both parameters showed a greater difference between the groups than in the co-channel. Therefore, using the cross-channel achieved more reliable differentiation between the groups. To conclude, attenuation coefficient maps allow visualization and quantification of changes in the condition of the connective tissue of the vaginal wall. In the future, CP OCT could be used for in vivo detection of early-stage vaginal wall prolapse and for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.

The titular compound was characterized for the first time using a full range of spectroscopic methods, including UV, IR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectra. In solution, all methods showed a keto–enol equilibrium strongly shifted to the enol form. The X-ray structures determined for all simple 2-oxosuccinates showed only the enol form packed as hydrogen-bonded dimer stacks.

The prevalence of periodontal diseases is increasing, tends to increase with age and is considered as one of the main causes of tooth loss. To assess the effectiveness of new methods of treatment of periodontal diseases, studies on laboratory animals can be promising. The aim of the study: to develop a new method of accelerated modeling of experimental periodontitis on laboratory animals. Material and methods. The study was carried out on 22 female rats. A wire ligature was applied to the cervical area of the incisors of the animals in an eight-shaped manner. Plaque obtained from a patient with periodontitis was placed under the wire, and nicotine and ethyl alcohol solutions were injected under the gingival mucosa. A complex index has been proposed to assess inflammation. At the end of the experiment the animals were euthanized, their jaws were dissected into dentoalveolar blocks and further descriptive histologic analysis was performed. Results. On the second day the gingiva of the rats acquired a cyanotic-pink color, on the fourth day the consistency of the gingiva became friable, mobility appeared in the lower incisors. Complex index of inflammation in animals of the main group: before the study—9, on the 7th day—195. Gingival preparations showed signs of exudative inflammation. In alveolar processes—irreversible resorption of bone structures. The difference of indicators in animals before and after the experiment was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusion. The new experimental model of periodontitis is reproduced in a short period of time, provides intensive development of inflammation, leads to disruption of the integrity of epithelial and connective tissue attachment, destruction of alveolar bone.

Untranslated gene regions (UTRs) play an important role in controlling gene expression. 3′-UTRs are primarily targeted by microRNA (miRNA) molecules that form complex gene regulatory networks. Cancer genomes are replete with non-coding mutations, many of which are connected to changes in tumor gene expression that accompany the development of cancer and are associated with resistance to therapy. Therefore, variants that occurred in 3′-UTR under cancer progression should be analysed to predict their phenotypic effect on gene expression, e.g., by evaluating their impact on miRNA target sites. Here, we analyze 3′-UTR variants in DICER1 and DROSHA genes in the context of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) development. The key features of this analysis include an assessment of both “canonical” and “non-canonical” types of mRNA-miRNA binding and tissue-specific profiling of miRNA interactions with wild-type and mutated genes. As a result, we obtained a list of DICER1 and DROSHA variants likely altering the miRNA sites and, therefore, potentially leading to the observed tissue-specific gene downregulation. All identified variants have low population frequency consistent with their potential association with pathology progression.

Background: A growing number of studies have reported Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related to both respiratory and central nervous system dysfunctions. This study evaluates the neuromodulatory effects of spinal cord transcutaneous stimulation (scTS) on the respiratory functional state in healthy controls and patients with post-COVID-19 respiratory deficits as a step toward the development of a rehabilitation strategy for these patients. Methods: In this before-after, interventional, case–controlled clinical study, ten individuals with post-acute COVID-19 respiratory deficits and eight healthy controls received a single twenty-minute-long session of modulated monophasic scTS delivered over the T5 and T10 spinal cord segments. Forced vital capacity (FVC), peak forced inspiratory flow (PIF), peak expiratory flow (PEF), time-to-peak of inspiratory flow (tPIF), and time-to-peak of expiratory flow (tPEF), as indirect measures of spinal motor network activity, were assessed before and after the intervention. Results: In the COVID-19 group, the scTS intervention led to significantly increased PIF (p = 0.040) and PEF (p = 0.049) in association with significantly decreased tPIF (p = 0.035) and tPEF (p = 0.013). In the control group, the exposure to scTS also resulted in significantly increased PIF (p = 0.010) and significantly decreased tPIF (p = 0.031). Unlike the results in the COVID-19 group, the control group had significantly decreased PEF (p = 0.028) associated with significantly increased tPEF (p = 0.036). There were no changes for FVC after scTS in both groups (p = 0.67 and p = 0.503). Conclusions: In post-COVID-19 patients, scTS facilitates excitation of both inspiratory and expiratory spinal neural networks leading to an immediate improvement of respiratory functional performance. This neuromodulation approach could be utilized in rehabilitation programs for patients with COVID-19 respiratory deficits.

Herein, we describe the design, implementation and operation principles of an astronomical camera system, based on a large-format CCD261-84 detector with an extremely thick 200 μm substrate. The DINACON-V controller was used with the CCD to achieve high performance and low noise. The CCD system photometric characteristics are presented. A spatial autocorrelation analysis of flat-field images was performed to reveal the dependence of substrate voltage on the lateral charge spreading. The investigation of the dispersion index for the optimal choice of exposure time is discussed. Studies of the patterns of fringes were carried out in comparison with previous detectors. The amplitude of fringes with CCD261-84 was significantly lower, compared to previous-generation detectors. The results of using a new camera for imaging and spectral observations at the Russian 6 m telescope with the SCORPIO-2 multimode focal reducer are considered. The developed CCD camera system makes it possible to significantly increase the sensitivity in the 800–1000 spectral range.

Background. AKI is one of the COVID-19 complications with high prognostic significance. In our research, we studied the prognostic role of several biomarkers that could help us understand AKI pathogenesis in patients with COVID-19. Methods. We evaluated the medical data of 500 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Tareev Clinic from 5 October 2020 to 1 March 2022. The diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed with positive RNA PCR in nasopharyngeal swabs and/or typical radiological findings on CT scans. Kidney function was assessed in accordance with KDIGO criteria. In the selected 89 patients, we evaluated serum levels of angiopoetin-1, KIM-1, MAC, and neutrophil elastase 2 and their prognostic significance. Results. The incidence of AKI in our study was 38%. The main risk factors for kidney injury were male sex, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic kidney disease. High serum angiopoetin-1 levels and a decrease in blood lymphocyte count and fibrinogen level also increased the risk of AKI. Conclusions. AKI is an independent risk factor for death in patients with COVID-19. We propose the prognostic model of AKI development, which includes the combination of serum levels of angiopoetin-1 and KIM-1 on admission. Our model can help to prevent AKI development in patients with coronavirus disease.

We develop an integrated efficient multiresonator quantum memory scheme based on a system of three interacting resonators coupled through a common resonator to an external waveguide via switchable coupler. It is shown that high-precision parameter matching based on step-by-step optimization makes it possible to efficiently store the signal field and enables on-demand retrieval of the signal at specified time moments. Possible experimental implementations and practical applications of the proposed quantum memory scheme are discussed.

Glomerulopathies with nephrotic syndrome that are resistant to therapy often progress to end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) and require timely and accurate diagnosis. Targeted quantitative urine proteome analysis by mass spectrometry (MS) with multiple-reaction monitoring (MRM) is a promising tool for early CKD diagnostics that could replace the invasive biopsy procedure. However, there are few studies regarding the development of highly multiplexed MRM assays for urine proteome analysis, and the two MRM assays for urine proteomics described so far demonstrate very low consistency. Thus, the further development of targeted urine proteome assays for CKD is actual task. Herein, a BAK270 MRM assay previously validated for blood plasma protein analysis was adapted for urine-targeted proteomics. Because proteinuria associated with renal impairment is usually associated with an increased diversity of plasma proteins being present in urine, the use of this panel was appropriate. Another advantage of the BAK270 MRM assay is that it includes 35 potential CKD markers described previously. Targeted LC-MRM MS analysis was performed for 69 urine samples from 46 CKD patients and 23 healthy controls, revealing 138 proteins that were found in ≥2/3 of the samples from at least one of the groups. The results obtained confirm 31 previously proposed CKD markers. Combination of MRM analysis with machine learning for data processing was performed. As a result, a highly accurate classifier was developed (AUC = 0.99) that enables distinguishing between mild and severe glomerulopathies based on the assessment of only three urine proteins (GPX3, PLMN, and A1AT or SHBG).

A one-stage method for the preparation of 1-[isocyanato(phenyl)methyl]adamantane containing a phenylmethylene fragment located between the adamantane fragment and the isocyanate group, and 1-[isocyanato(phenyl)methyl]-3,5-dimethyladamantane with additional methyl groups at the nodal positions of adamantane, with a yield of 95% and 89%, respectively, is described. The method includes the direct inclusion of an adamantane moiety through the reaction of phenylacetic acid ethyl ester with 1,3-dehydroadamantane or 3,5-dimethyl-1,3-dehydroadamantane followed by the hydrolysis of the obtained esters. The reaction of 1-[isocyanato(phenyl)methyl]adamantane with fluorine(chlorine)-containing anilines gave a series of 1,3-disubstituted ureas with 25–85% yield. 1-[Isocyanato(phenyl)methyl]-3,5-dimethyladamantane was involved in the reactions with fluorine(chlorine)-containing anilines and trans-4-amino-(cyclohexyloxy)benzoic acid to obtain another series of ureas with a yield of 29–74%. The resulting 1,3-disubstituted ureas are promising inhibitors of the human soluble epoxide hydrolase (hsEH).

(1) Introduction. The problem that limits the intraoperative use of OCTA for the intestinal circulation diagnostics is the low informative value of OCTA images containing too many motion artifacts. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency and safety of the developed unit for the prevention of the appearance of motion artifacts in the OCTA images of the intestine in both open and laparoscopic surgery in the experiment; (2) Methods. A high-speed spectral-domain multimodal optical coherence tomograph (IAP RAS, Russia) operating at a wavelength of 1310 nm with a spectral width of 100 μm and a power of 2 mW was used. The developed unit was tested in two groups of experimental animals—on minipigs (group I, n = 10, open abdomen) and on rabbits (group II, n = 10, laparoscopy). Acute mesenteric ischemia was modeled and then 1 h later the small intestine underwent OCTA evaluation. A total of 400 OCTA images of the intact and ischemic small intestine were obtained and analyzed. The quality of the obtained OCTA images was evaluated based on the score proposed in 2020 by the group of Magnin M. (3) Results. Without stabilization, OCTA images of the intestine tissues were informative only in 32–44% of cases in open surgery and in 14–22% of cases in laparoscopic surgery. A vacuum bowel stabilizer with a pressure deficit of 22–25 mm Hg significantly reduced the number of motion artifacts. As a result, the proportion of informative OCTA images in open surgery increased up to 86.5% (Χ2 = 200.2, p = 0.001), and in laparoscopy up to 60% (Χ2 = 148.3, p = 0.001). (4) Conclusions. The used vacuum tissue stabilizer enabled a significant increase in the proportion of informative OCTA images by significantly reducing the motion artifacts.

We report on half-ring lasers that are 100–200 µm in diameter and are fabricated by cleaving the initial full rings into halves. Characteristics of the half-ring and half-disk lasers fabricated from the same wafer are compared. The active area of the microlasers is based on the quantum heterostructures of mixed (0D/2D) dimensionality, referred to as quantum well-dots with very high material gain. Half-ring lasers show directional light emission and single-mode lasing near the threshold. A maximal continuous-wave output power of 76 mW is achieved for a half-ring that is 200 µm in diameter. Half-rings demonstrate better wall-plug efficiency as compared to half-disks. Lasing in pulse mode is observed up to 140 °C, the characteristic temperature is 100–125 K, depending on the half-ring size. P-side down bonding onto Si-board significantly improves power and temperature characteristics. In CW mode, lasing is maintained up to 97 °C, limited by active-area overheating.

When a quadruped robot is climbing stairs, due to unexpected factors, such as the size of the differing from the international standard or the stairs being wet and slippery, it may suddenly fall down. Therefore, solving the self-recovery problem of the quadruped robot after falling is of great significance in practical engineering. This is inspired by the self-recovery of crustaceans when they fall; the swinging of their legs will produce a resonance effect of a specific body shape, and then the shell will swing under the action of external force, and self-recovery will be achieved by moving the center of gravity. Based on the bionic mechanism, the kinematics model of a one-leg swing and the self-recovery motion model of a falling quadruped robot are established in this paper. According to the established mathematical model, the algorithm training environment is constructed, and a control strategy based on the reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed as a controller to be applied to the fall self-recovery of quadruped robots. The simulation results show that the quadruped robot only takes 2.25 s to achieve self-recovery through DDPG on flat terrain. In addition, we compare the proposed algorithm with PID and LQR algorithms, and the simulation experiments verify the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

One-state and two-state lasing is investigated experimentally and through numerical simulation as a function of temperature in microdisk lasers with Stranski–Krastanow InAs/InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots. Near room temperature, the temperature-induced increment of the ground-state threshold current density is relatively weak and can be described by a characteristic temperature of about 150 K. At elevated temperatures, a faster (super-exponential) increase in the threshold current density is observed. Meanwhile, the current density corresponding to the onset of two-state lasing was found to decrease with increasing temperature, so that the interval of current density of pure one-state lasing becomes narrower with the temperature increase. Above a certain critical temperature, ground-state lasing completely disappears. This critical temperature drops from 107 to 37 °C as the microdisk diameter decreases from 28 to 20 μm. In microdisks with a diameter of 9 μm, a temperature-induced jump in the lasing wavelength from the first excited-state to second excited-state optical transition is observed. A model describing the system of rate equations and free carrier absorption dependent on the reservoir population provides a satisfactory agreement with experimental results. The temperature and threshold current corresponding to the quenching of ground-state lasing can be well approximated by linear functions of saturated gain and output loss.

The two-state lasing phenomenon, which manifests itself in simultaneous laser emission through several optical transitions of quantum dots, is studied in microdisk diode lasers with different cavity diameters. The active region represents a multiply stacked array of self-organized InAs/InGaAs/GaAs quantum dots emitting in the wavelength range of 1.1–1.3 µm. Two-state lasing, which involves the ground-state and the first excited-state optical transitions, is observed in microdisks with cavity diameters of 20 to 28 µm, whereas two-state lasing via the first and the second excited-state optical transitions is observed in 9 µm microdisks. The threshold currents for one-state and two-state lasing are investigated as functions of the microdisk diameter. Optical loss in the microdisk lasers is evaluated by comparing the two-state lasing behavior of the microdisks with that of edge-emitting stripe lasers made of the same epitaxial wafer.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) has been recognized as an extrahepatic manifestation ofprimary biliary cholangitis (PBC), althoughlimited data are available on its prevalence and clinical significance. Therefore, we evaluated the occurrence and clinical features of ILD in a cohort of PBC patients. Ninety-three individuals without concomitant rheumatic diseases were enrolled in our prospective cohort study. All patients underwent chest high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). Liver-related and lung-related survival wereassessed. A lung-related outcome was defined as death from ILD complications; a liver-related outcome was defined as liver transplantation or death from liver cirrhosis complications. HRCT findings suggestive ofILD were detected in 38 patients (40.9%). A sarcoid-like pattern of PBC-associated ILD was the most frequent, followed by subclinical ILD and organizing pneumonia. Patients with ILD were less likely to have liver cirrhosis and liver-related symptoms and presented with higher serum immunoglobulin M(IgM) and M2 subtype antimitochondrial antibodies (AMA-M2) positivity rates. In a multivariate analysis, the absence of liver disease symptoms at the disease presentation (OR 11.509; 95% CI 1.210–109.421; p = 0.033), the presence of hepatic non-necrotizing epithelioid cell granulomas (OR 17.754; 95% CI 1.805–174.631; p = 0.014), higher serum IgM (OR 1.535; 95% CI 1.067–2.208; p = 0.020) and higher blood leukocyte count (OR 2.356; 95% CI 1.170–4.747; p = 0.016) were independent risk factors associated with ILD in PBC. More than a third of patients with ILD showed no respiratory symptoms, and only one ILD-related death occurred during a follow-up of 29.0 months (IQR 11.5; 38.0). Patients with ILD had better liver transplant-free survival.ILD in PBC had a benign course and was associated with a lower liver disease severity. PBC-associated ILD should be included in a list of differential diagnoses of ILD.

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pirfenidone in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) seen in clinical practice. Fifty-five adults with IPF were enrolled in this multicenter, open-label, non-randomized, non-controlled, interventional clinical study. All patients received pirfenidone 2403 mg/day (three 267 mg capsules three times daily) for 26 weeks. After 26 weeks of treatment, the mean change in absolute forced vital capacity (FVC) was 128.8 mL (95% confidence interval [CI] −26.8, 284.4) and the mean change in relative predicted FVC was −0.10% (95% CI −3.18, 2.99). New results on the radio-quiet type 2 quasar, known as the Teacup galaxy (SDSSJ1430+1339), based on the long-slit and 3D spectroscopic data obtained at the Russian 6-m telescope, are presented. The ionized gas giant nebula, which extends up to r=56 kpc in the [O iii] emission line, was mapped with the scanning Fabry–Perot interferometer. The direct estimation of the emission line ratios confirmed that the giant nebula is ionized by the AGN. Stars in the inner r<5 kpc are significantly younger than the outer host galaxy and have a solar metallicity. The central starburst age (∼1 Gyr) agrees with possible ages for the galactic merger events and the previous episode of the quasar outflow produced two symmetric arcs visible in the [O iii] emission at the distances r= 50–55 kpc. The ionized gas velocity field can be fitted by the model of a circular rotating disk significantly inclined or even polar to the stellar host galaxy.

In the paper, a queueing system with an unlimited number of servers and two phases of service with degradation in the service rate is studied. The problem of service rate degradation emerges in cloud nodes, where there is contention for hardware resources including computational resources such as CPU cores. In a node, we have a limited number of CPU cores that should execute potentially an unlimited number of processes (requests) in parallel. In our model, the term “server” means a process allocated in the node for execution. So, the number of “servers” is unlimited but their individual performances decrease because CPUs should switch between them during the execution. We consider processes executed in the node with two phases of life cycle that reflects periods with different activity of a process; e.g., in the first phase, the process may require intensive usage of CPU cores but low usage in the second one. Our model distinguishes the phases using different service parameters for them as well as different influence on the service rate degradation in the node. In the paper, two analytical methods are proposed: exact solving of the system of the local balance equation and the asymptotic analysis of the global balance equations. Formulas for the stationary probability distribution of the number of customers in the phases are obtained for both cases. Several numerical examples are provided that illustrate some properties and applicability of the obtained results.

A description of the method of magnetoimpedance tomography is presented. This method is based on the analysis of the frequency dependences of the impedance obtained in magnetic fields of various strengths. It allows one to determine the distribution of electrical and magnetic properties over the cross-section of the conductor, as well as their dependence on the magnetic field. The article proposes a specific approach to the implementation of the magnetoimpedance tomography method based on computer modeling by the finite element method. The results of this method are presented for composite Cu98Be2/Fe20Co6Ni74 wires of the “highly conductive core–magnetically soft coating” type and amorphous rapidly quenched Co66Fe4Nb2.5Si12.5B15 wires.

We study photoluminescence of InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures monolithically integrated to a Si(100) substrate. The InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures were grown in pre-formed pits in the silicon substrate using an original approach based on selective area growth and driven by a molten alloy in metal–organic vapor epitaxy method. This approach provides the selective-area synthesis of the ordered emitters arrays on Si substrates. The obtained InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures have a submicron size. The individual InP/InAsP/InP nanostructures were investigated by photoluminescence spectroscopy at room temperature. The tuning of the emission line in the spectral range from 1200 nm to 1550 nm was obtained depending on the growth parameters. These results provide a path for the growth on Si(100) substrate of position-controlled heterojunctions based on InAs1−xPx for nanoscale optical devices operating at the telecom band.

An infinite-server queueing model with state-dependent arrival process and exponential distribution of service time is analyzed. It is assumed that the difference between the value of the arrival rate and total service rate becomes positive starting from a certain value of the number of customers in the system. In this paper, time until reaching this value by the number of customers in the system is called the pseudo steady-state period (PSSP). Distribution of duration of PSSP, its raw moments and its simple approximation under a certain scaling of the number of customers in the system are analyzed. Novelty of the considered problem consists of an arbitrary dependence of the rate of customer arrival on the current number of customers in the system and analysis of time until reaching from below a certain level by the number of customers in the system. The relevant existing papers focus on the analysis of time interval since exceeding a certain level until the number of customers goes down to this level (congestion period). Our main contribution consists of the derivation of a simple approximation of the considered time distribution by the exponential distribution. Numerical examples are presented, which confirm good quality of the proposed approximation.

We present in this study optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and OCT attenuation imaging (OCTAI) for in vivo non-destructive visualization of intramural blood and lymphatic vessels of the intestine wall. Rabbit small intestine in the norm and after thoracolumbar sympathectomy served as the object of the intraoperative study. Compared to OCTA real-time imaging, OCTAI takes several minutes and can be termed as “nearly real time”. OCTAI signal processing was modified to take into account the signal-to-noise ratio and the final thickness of the intestine wall. The results showed that, after sympathectomy, changes in functioning of intramural blood and lymphatic vessels were observed with a high statistical significance. The occurrence of trauma-induced constriction of the blood and lymphatic vessels led to an especially pronounced decrease in the length of small-caliber (p < 10−5), as well as in the volumetric density of lymphatic vessels (on average by ~50%) compared to their initial state. Remarkably, OCTA/OCTAI modalities provide the unique ability for “nearly-instant detection” of changes in functional status of the tissues, long before they become visible on histology. The proposed approach can be used in further experiments to clarify the mechanisms of changes in intestinal blood and lymph flows in response to trauma of the nervous system. Furthermore, potentially it can be used intraoperatively in patients requiring express diagnosis of the state of intramural blood and lymph circulation.

The current study aims to examine how students’ intentions to use 4.5G mobile phones are affected by the social-economic factors of performance expectancy, cost, effort expectancy, and social influence. This study is based on the perspectives of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The central assumption of this study is that when students use 4.5G mobile services to source information at university, their academic performance is likely to improve. From eight private and public universities in Malaysia, 2117 students were enrolled in this study. We investigated the effects of gender and awareness as moderators on the relationships among the variables of interest. The findings showed that social influence and performance expectancy positively affected university students’ intentions to use 4.5G mobile phones. The researchers conducted a multigroup analysis to confirm the moderating effect of gender among the underlying relationships in the model. Structural equation modeling analysis indicated that, unlike awareness, gender did not moderate social influence, effort expectancy, performance expectancy, or the cost of students’ intentions to use 4.5G mobile phones. The implications of the proposed approach, considering the digital transformation concept, could be a topic for future research.

As drug delivery to the eye has evolved over the last decades, researchers have explored more effective treatments for ocular diseases. Despite this, delivering drugs to the cornea remains one of the most problematic issues in ophthalmology due to the poor permeability of the cornea and tear clearance mechanisms. In this study, four different types of polyaphron formulations are prepared with 10% poloxamer 188 (P188), 10% poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline), 1% polyquaternium 10, and 3% sodium carboxymethylcellulose solutions mixed with 1% Brij® L4 in a caprylic/capric triglycerides solution. Their physicochemical characteristics, rheological properties, and stability are assessed. Additionally, a polyaphron with 3% polyquaternium 10 was prepared for the assessment of ex vivo corneal retention along with four other polyaphrons. The best retention on the ex vivo cornea was displayed by the 3% polyquaternium 10-based formulation. The 10% poloxamer 188 along with 1% polyquaternium 10-based polyaphrons appeared to be the most stable among the four prepared formulations. A toxicological evaluation of these formulations was performed using a slug mucosal irritation test and bovine corneal opacity and permeability assay, with all four polyaphrons proving good biocompatibility with ocular tissues. The developed drug delivery systems demonstrated an excellent potential for ocular drug delivery.

B[e] stars are massive B type emission line stars in different evolutionary stages ranging from pre-main sequence to post-main sequence. Due to their mass loss and ejection events these objects deposit huge amounts of mass and energy into their environment and enrich it with chemically processed material, contributing significantly to the chemical and dynamical evolution of their host galaxies. However, the large-scale environments of these enigmatic objects have not attracted much attention. The first and so far only catalog reporting the detection of extended shells around a sample of B[e] stars was an Hα imaging survey carried out in the year 2001, and was limited to bright targets in the northern hemisphere. We have recently started a follow-up of those targets to detect possible evolution of their nebulae in the plane of the sky over a baseline of two decades. Furthermore, we extend our survey to southern targets and fainter northern ones to complement and complete our knowledge on large-scale ejecta surrounding B[e] stars. Besides imaging in Hα and selected nebular lines, we utilize long-slit and 3D spectral observations across the nebulae to derive their physical properties. We discovered pronounced nebula structures around 15 more objects, resulting in a total of 27 B[e] stars with a large-scale nebula. Here we present our (preliminary) results for three selected objects: the two massive supergiants MWC137 and MWC 314, and the unclassified B[e] star MWC 819.

One of the main elements in hardware-based adaptive optics systems is a deformable mirror. There is quite a large number of such mirrors based on different principles and exhibiting varying performance. They constitute a significant portion of the cost of the final optical devices. In this study, we consider the possibility of replacing an adaptive mirror with the adaptive amplitude Fresnel zone plate, implemented using a digital light-processing matrix. Since such matrices are widely used in mass industry products (light projectors), their costs in large batches are 1–2 orders of magnitude lower than the cost of inexpensive deformable mirrors. Numerical modeling for scanning an optical coherence tomography system with adaptive optics is presented. It is shown that wavefront distortions with high spatial frequencies and large amplitudes can be corrected using an amplitude Fresnel zone plate. The results are compared with piezoelectric and microelectromechanical system mirrors.

The authors developed four variants of the qNMR technique (1H or 13C nucleus, DMSO-d6 or CDCl3 solvent) for identification and quantification by NMR of 22R and 22S epimers in budesonide active pharmaceutical ingredient and budesonide drugs (sprays, capsules, tablets). The choice of the qNMR technique version depends on the drug excipients. The correlation of 1H and 13C spectra signals to molecules of different budesonide epimers was carried out on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of experimental spectral NMR data (1H-1H gCOSY, 1H-13C gHSQC, 1H-13C gHMBC, 1H-1H ROESY). This technique makes it possible to identify budesonide epimers and determine their weight ratio directly, without constructing a calibration curve and using any standards. The results of measuring the 22S epimer content by qNMR are comparable with the results of measurements using the reference HPLC method.

This article presents the results of the 10-fold cyclic freezing (−37.0 °C) and thawing (0.0 °C) effect on the number and size range of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). AgNPs were obtained by the cavitation-diffusion photochemical reduction method and their sorption on the fiber surface of various suture materials, perlon, silk, and catgut, was studied. The distribution of nanoparticles of different diameters before and after the application of the cyclic freezing/thawing processes for each type of fibers studied was determined using electron microscopy. In general, the present study demonstrates the effectiveness of using the technique of 10-fold cyclic freezing. It is applicable to increase the absolute amount of AgNPs on the surface of the suture material with a simultaneous decrease in the size dispersion. It was also found that the application of the developed technique leads to the overwhelming predominance of nanoparticles with 1 to 15 nm diameter on all the investigated fibers. In addition, it was shown that after the application of the freeze/thaw method, the antibacterial activity of silk and catgut suture materials with AgNPs was significantly higher than before their treatment by cyclic freezing.

The description and test results of the prototype of a fast ionosonde for the vertical sounding of the ionosphere, which makes it possible to record ionograms once a second, are presented. Such a high rate of registration of ionograms is required to study the fast processes of redistribution of electron concentration during heating experiments, for registration of fast quasiperiodic and moving ionospheric disturbances in the F, E, and Es layers. The key feature of the presented development is the usage of publicly available radio-electronic components. This provided a significant reduction in the cost of creating the prototype. In the current version, the prototype is based on the software-defined radio (SDR) devices Red Pitaya SDRlab 122-16 and LimeSDR. The test results showed that the quality of the ionograms recorded using the prototype is not worse than the quality of ionograms recorded using the professional CADI ionosonde. The low cost of the components allows providing multi-position registration of ionograms for determination the dynamics of natural and artificial ionospheric disturbances in 3D region of space at a lower expenses rate, as well as to create a network of ionospheric observation points with an increased number of ionosondes.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been recently suggested as a promising method to obtain in vivo and real-time high-resolution images of tissue structure in brain tumor surgery. This review focuses on the basics of OCT imaging, types of OCT images and currently suggested OCT scanner devices and the results of their application in neurosurgery. OCT can assist in achieving intraoperative precision identification of tumor infiltration within surrounding brain parenchyma by using qualitative or quantitative OCT image analysis of scanned tissue. OCT is able to identify tumorous tissue and blood vessels detection during stereotactic biopsy procedures. The combination of OCT with traditional imaging such as MRI, ultrasound and 5-ALA fluorescence has the potential to increase the safety and accuracy of the resection. OCT can improve the extent of resection by offering the direct visualization of tumor with cellular resolution when using microscopic OCT contact probes. The theranostic implementation of OCT as a part of intelligent optical diagnosis and automated lesion localization and ablation could achieve high precision, automation and intelligence in brain tumor surgery. We present this review for the increase of knowledge and formation of critical opinion in the field of OCT implementation in brain tumor surgery.

The effect of a reduced deuterium (D) content in the incubation medium on the survival of cultured neurons in vitro and under glucose deprivation was studied. In addition, we studied the effect of a decrease in the deuterium content in the rat brain on oxidative processes in the nervous tissue, its antioxidant protection, and training of rats in the T-shaped maze test under hypoxic conditions. For experiments with cultures of neurons, 7–8-day cultures of cerebellar neurons were used. Determination of the rate of neuronal death in cultures was carried out using propidium iodide. Acute hypoxia with hypercapnia was simulated in rats by placing them in sealed vessels with a capacity of 1 L. The effect on oxidative processes in brain tissues was assessed by changes in the level of free radical oxidation and malondialdehyde. The effect on the antioxidant system of the brain was assessed by the activity of catalase. The study in the T-maze was carried out in accordance with the generally accepted methodology, the skill of alternating right-sided and left-sided loops on positive reinforcement was developed. This work has shown that a decrease in the deuterium content in the incubation medium to a level of −357‰ has a neuroprotective effect, increasing the survival rate of cultured neurons under glucose deprivation. When exposed to hypoxia, a preliminary decrease in the deuterium content in the rat brain to −261‰ prevents the development of oxidative stress in their nervous tissue and preserves the learning ability of animals in the T-shaped maze test at the level of the control group. A similar protective effect during the modification of the 2H/1H internal environment of the body by the consumption of DDW can potentially be used for the prevention of pathological conditions associated with the development of oxidative stress with damage to the central nervous system.

This paper is dedicated to studying and modeling the interdependence between the oil returns and exchange-rate movements of oil-exporting and oil-importing countries. Globally, twelve countries/regions are investigated, representing more than 60% and 67% of all oil exports and imports. The sample period encompasses economic and natural events like the Great Recession period (2007–2009) and the COVID-19 pandemic. We use the dynamic conditional correlation mixed-data sampling (DCC-MIDAS) model, with the aim of investigating the interdependencies expressed by the long-run correlation, which is a smoother (but always daily observed) version of the (daily) time-varying correlation. Focusing on the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the long-run correlations of the oil-exporting countries (Saudia Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Canada, United States, United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria) and (lagged) WTI crude oil returns strongly increase. For a subset of these countries (that is, Saudia Arabia, Iraq, United States, United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria), the (lagged) correlations turn out to be positive, while for Canada and Russia they remain negative as before the advent of the pandemic. In addition, the oil-importing countries and regions under investigation (Europe, China, India, Japan, and South Korea) experience a similar pattern: before the COVID-19 pandemic, the (lagged) correlations were negative for China, India, and South Korea. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the correlations of these latter countries increased.

The paper considers the model of a call center in the form of a multi-server queueing system with Poisson arrivals and an unlimited waiting area. In the model under consideration, incoming calls do not differ in terms of service conditions, requested service, and interarrival periods. It is assumed that an incoming call can use any free server and they are all identical in terms of capabilities and quality. The goal problem is to find the stationary distribution of the number of calls in the system for an arbitrary recurrent service. This will allow us to evaluate the performance measures of such systems and solve various optimization problems for them. Considering models with non-exponential service times provides solutions for a wide class of mathematical models, making the results more adequate for real call centers. The solution is based on the approximation of the given distribution function of the service time by the hyperexponential distribution function. Therefore, first, the problem of studying a system with hyperexponential service is solved using the matrix-geometric method. Further, on the basis of this result, an approximation of the stationary distribution of the number of calls in a multi-server system with an arbitrary distribution function of the service time is constructed. Various issues in the application of this approximation are considered, and its accuracy is analyzed based on comparison with the known analytical result for a particular case, as well as with the results of the simulation.

Herein, we report a copper oxide-cobalt oxide/nitrogen-doped carbon hybrid (Cu2O-Co3O4/CN) composite for electrochemical water splitting. Cu2O-Co3O4/CN is synthesized by an easy two-step reaction of melamine with Cu2O-Co3O4/CN composite. The designed composite is aimed to solve energy challenges by producing hydrogen and oxygen via electrochemical catalysis. The proposed composite offers some unique advantages in water splitting. Carbon imparts superior conductivity, while the water oxidation abilities of Cu2O and Co3O4 are considered to constitute a catalyst. The synthesized composite (Cu2O-Co3O4/CN) is characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR, TEM, and AFM in terms of the size, morphology, shape, and elemental composition of the catalyst. The designed catalyst’s electrochemical performance is evaluated via linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The Cu2O-Co3O4/CN composite shows significant electrocatalytic activity, which is further improved by introducing nitrogen doped carbon (current density 10 mA cm−2, onset potential 91 mV, and overpotential 396 mV).

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) refers to a heterogeneous group of closely related clonal hematopoietic disorders, which are characterized by accumulation of somatic mutations. The acquired mutation burden is suggested to define the pathway and consequent phenotype of the pathology. Recent studies have called attention to the role of miRNA biogenesis genes in MDS progression; in particular, the mutational pressure of the DROSHA gene was determined. Therefore, this highlights the importance of studying the impact of all collected missense mutations found within the DROSHA gene in oncohematology that might affect the functionality of the protein. In this study, the selected mutations were extensively examined by computational screening, and the most deleterious were subjected to a further molecular dynamic simulation in order to uncover the molecular mechanism of the structural damage to the protein altering its biological function. The most significant effect was found for variants I625K, L1047S, and H1170D, presumably affecting the endonuclease activity of DROSHA. Such alterations arisen during MDS progression should be taken into consideration as evoking certain clinical traits in the malignifying clonal evolution.

The research paper is devoted to developing a mathematical approach for dealing with time-varying parameters in rolling window logit models for credit risk assessment. Forecasting coefficients yields a better model accuracy than a trivial approach of using computed past statistics parameters for the next time period. In this paper, a new method of dealing with time-varying parameters of scoring models is proposed, which is aimed at computing the default probability of a borrower. It was empirically shown that in a continuously changing economic environment factors’ influence on a target variable is also changing. Therefore, forecasting coefficients yields a better financial result than simply applying parameters obtained by accumulated statistics over past time periods. The paper develops a new theoretical approach, incorporating a combination of the ARIMA class model, the DCC-GARCH model and the state–space model, which is more accurate, than using only the ARIMA model. Rigorous simulation testing is provided to confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.
