Futsal carries a high risk of injury for players. This systematic review aimed to assess the existing literature on injury prevention strategies for futsal players. The literature was searched using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases from inception to 20 March 2024. Relevant articles were searched using the terms “futsal” AND “injury” AND “prevention”. Fourteen studies were included in the review. The review identified several injury prevention strategies with potential benefits for futsal players. Structured warm-up routines were shown to improve balance and eccentric strength and to reduce total, acute, and lower limb injuries. Proprioceptive training methods were suggested to improve joint stability and landing mechanics, which may reduce the risk of injury. Furthermore, multicomponent methods that include components such as core stability and flexibility have shown potential for reducing injury rates in futsal players. Finally, by reducing fatigue and improving movement control, strength training procedures designed to correct muscular imbalances may improve performance, which may ultimately minimize the risk of injury. This systematic review demonstrates the potential benefits of different injury prevention strategies for futsal players. The combination of several strategies, such as proprioceptive training, multicomponent programs, warm-up routines, and strength training specifically designed to address muscular imbalances, appears promising.

Sarcopenia is defined by the presence of decreased skeletal muscle mass, strength, and functionality in older people. Multicomponent interventions represent an alternative to non-pharmacological treatment for preventing disease progression. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a multicomponent intervention approach in women at risk of sarcopenia. Methods: A quasi-experimental pilot study of 12 weeks was conducted, with 24 sessions of dancing and resistance exercises and 12 sessions of nutritional education. The outcomes were changes in muscle mass, grip strength, gait speed, and body composition. The project was registered on Clinical Trials: NCT06038500 (14 September 2023). Results: Twelve women aged 55–75 years participated in this study; after the intervention, changes were found in the following variables: grip strength, from 18.70 (17.98–19.23) at baseline to 21.57 (20.67–23.16) kg (p = 0.002); gait speed, from 0.95 (0.81–1.18) at baseline to 1.34 (1.20–1.47) m/s (p = 0.003); and hip circumference, from 99.75 (94.75–110.37) at baseline to 97.65 (93.92–109.50) cm (p = 0.023). Other measurements that appeared without changes were appendicular skeletal muscle mass, from 21.17 (18.58–22.33) at baseline to 20.77 (18.31–22.39) kg (p = 0.875), and the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index, from 8.64 (8.08–9.35) at baseline to 8.81 (7.91–9.38) kg/m2 (p = 0.875) after the intervention. Conclusions: The three-month multicomponent intervention in women at risk of sarcopenia improved their grip strength and gait speed.

The smoking prevalence among vocational education and training (VET) students is high. This paper describes the development and feasibility test of a multicomponent intervention designed to promote non-smoking behaviour at VET schools. We applied the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) stages and the capability, opportunity, and motivation for behaviour (COM-B) model to develop the intervention components based on theory, evidence, and a thorough needs-assessment study. Moreover, we feasibility-tested the preliminary ideas. All in all, our study was based on the literature, survey data, fieldwork, workshops, and expert and stakeholder involvement. The final intervention programme targets VET students’ smoking behaviour at the school, class, and individual levels through (a) a comprehensive tobacco policy to limit the physical and social opportunities to smoke, supplemented with a two-day staff course in conversations about smoking and an edutainment session (a lecture that both educates and entertains) to support a smoke-free environment; (b) classroom curricular with teaching materials to increase knowledge and social support, along with a quit-and-win competition to increase motivation; and (c) the national Quitline adapted to VET students to increase access to cessation support. The BCW model enabled a systematic and comprehensive development of an intervention, which demonstrates relevant techniques and delivery options to have the potential to reduce smoking in VET schools.

The step-flow and spiral growth of a multicomponent crystal are considered from vapors, taking into account the different possible Schwoebel barriers for each component within the Burton-Cabrera-Frank model. Analytic expressions for the final growth rates of such a multicomponent crystal are determined while considering the kinetic properties of all the individual components and growth conditions. Possible instabilities inherent in the presence of several components are studied, and a stability criterion for the multicomponent case is proposed. It is shown that, in certain cases, nucleation of nanoislands of pure components behind the moving steps can initiate, significantly distorting the growth process. The criterion for the occurrence of such an unstable regime is found.

Group A Streptococcus (GAS) is a major human pathogen for which there is no licensed vaccine. To protect against infection, a strong systemic and mucosal immune response is likely to be necessary to prevent initial colonization and any events that might lead to invasive disease. A broad immune response will be necessary to target the varied GAS serotypes and disease presentations. To this end, we designed a representative panel of recombinant proteins to cover the stages of GAS infection and investigated whether mucosal and systemic immunity could be stimulated by these protein antigens. We immunized mice sublingually, intranasally and subcutaneously, then measured IgG and IgA antibody levels and functional activity through in vitro assays. Our results show that both sublingual and intranasal immunization in the presence of adjuvant induced both systemic IgG and mucosal IgA. Meanwhile, subcutaneous immunization generated only a serum IgG response. The antibodies mediated binding and killing of GAS cells and blocked binding of GAS to HaCaT cells, particularly following intranasal and subcutaneous immunizations. Further, antigen-specific assays revealed that immune sera inhibited cleavage of IL-8 by SpyCEP and IgG by Mac/IdeS. These results demonstrate that mucosal immunization can induce effective systemic and mucosal antibody responses. This finding warrants further investigation and optimization of humoral and cellular responses as a viable alternative to subcutaneous immunization for urgently needed GAS vaccines.

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM) surveys using airborne mobile platforms enable rapid and efficient exploration of areas where groundwork is difficult. They have been widely used in fields such as shallow resource exploration and environmental engineering. Three-dimensional AEM inversion is the main technique used in fine structural interpretation. However, most current methods focus on separate component data inversions, which limit the kinds of structures that can be recovered in the inversion results. To address this issue, a method for the robust 3D joint inversion of multicomponent frequency-domain AEM data was developed in this study. First, a finite element method based on unstructured tetrahedral grids was used to solve the forward problem of frequency-domain AEM data for both isotropic and anisotropic media. During inversion, a limited-memory quasi-Newton (L-BFGS) method was used to reduce the memory requirements and enable the joint inversion of large-scale multicomponent AEM data. The effectiveness of our algorithm was demonstrated using synthetic models for both isotropic and anisotropic cases, with 5% Gaussian noise added to the modeling data to simulate the measured data for separate and joint inversions. The results of the synthetic models show that joint inversion has advantages over separate inversion in that it enables the recovery of finer underground structures and provides a novel approach for the fine interpretation of frequency-domain AEM data.

Recently, high-Cr multicomponent white cast iron after quenching is known to have superior abrasive-wear resistance. However, this material is prone to cracking due to the precipitation of very hard carbides resulting in very limited application. However, the cracking tendency might be reduced by appropriate tempering temperature. Therefore, the three-body abrasive-wear resistance of 18 wt.% and 27 wt.% Cr based on 3 wt.% Mo, W, V, and Co with different temperatures of tempering was studied. These are abbreviated as 18Cr MCCI and 27Cr MCCI. The tempering temperature range was 653–813 K with an interval of 20 K after the quenching process. The quenched specimens were used as comparison materials, and three tempered specimens were selected. Thus, there are quenched (Q), quenched-tempered at low temperature (TLT), quenched-tempered at medium temperature (TMT), and quenched-tempered at high temperature (THT) specimens. From the results, it can be known that the wear resistance of the material decreases as Cr percentage and tempering temperature increase. Therefore, the 18Cr MCCI Q has better wear performance than specimens of other conditions. Yet, different results occur in the group of 27Cr MCCI. The material is more wear-resistant after tempering despite the lower hardness of the material. This might be owing to the higher fracture toughness of the M7C3 carbide, which is higher after the tempering process compared with quenching only. Therefore, it can be said that it is important to maintain the hardness of the material to achieve better wear resistance. However, in materials containing large M7C3 carbides, the fracture toughness of carbides should also be considered.

Porous polymer-derived membranes are useful for applications ranging from filtration and separation technologies to energy storage and conversion. Combining block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly with the industrially scalable, non-equilibrium phase inversion technique (SNIPS) yields membranes comprising periodically ordered top surface structures supported by asymmetric, hierarchical substructures that together overcome performance tradeoffs typically faced by materials derived from equilibrium approaches. This review first reports on recent advances in understanding the top surface structural evolution of a model SNIPS-derived system during standard membrane formation. Subsequently, the application of SNIPS to multicomponent systems is described, enabling pore size modulation, chemical modification, and transformation to non-polymeric materials classes without compromising the structural features that define SNIPS membranes. Perspectives on future directions of both single-component and multicomponent membrane materials are provided. This points to a rich and fertile ground for the study of fundamental as well as applied problems using non-equilibrium-derived asymmetric porous materials with tunable chemistry, composition, and structure.

Childhood obesity constitutes a major risk factor for future adverse health conditions. Multicomponent parent–child interventions are considered effective in controlling weight. Τhe ENDORSE platform utilizes m-health technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and serious games (SG) toward the creation of an innovative software ecosystem connecting healthcare professionals, children, and their parents in order to deliver coordinated services to combat childhood obesity. It consists of activity trackers, a mobile SG for children, and mobile apps for parents and healthcare professionals. The heterogeneous dataset gathered through the interaction of the end-users with the platform composes the unique user profile. Part of it feeds an AI-based model that enables personalized messages. A feasibility pilot trial was conducted involving 50 overweight and obese children (mean age 10.5 years, 52% girls, 58% pubertal, median baseline BMI z-score 2.85) in a 3-month intervention. Adherence was measured by means of frequency of usage based on the data records. Overall, a clinically and statistically significant BMI z-score reduction was achieved (mean BMI z-score reduction −0.21 ± 0.26, p-value < 0.001). A statistically significant correlation was revealed between the level of activity tracker usage and the improvement of BMI z-score (−0.355, p = 0.017), highlighting the potential of the ENDORSE platform.

A multicomponent white cast iron containing 5 wt.% each of Cr, V, Mo, W, and Co (MWCI) is known to have excellent wear-resistance properties due to the precipitation of some very hard carbides, such as MC, M2C, and M7C3. However, it seems possible to improve the wear resistance of MWCI by increasing the carbide volume fraction (CVF). Thus, 27 wt.% Cr based on 3 wt.% each of V, W, Mo, and Co was simultaneously added into the white cast iron. To avoid the tendency of carbides to crack due to high M7C3 precipitation levels, titanium (0–2 wt.% Ti) was also added. A rubber wheel abrasive machine test according to the ASTM G65 standard with two different abrasive particle sizes (average: 75 and 300 μm) was used to evaluate the wear characteristics of the alloy. The results show that the wear resistance of these new alloys (0Ti, 1Ti, and 2Ti) is lower than that of MWCI in small silica sand, owing to the lower hardness. However, a different condition is present in large silica sand, for which the abrasive wear resistance of MWCI is lower than that of the 0Ti and 1Ti specimens. In addition, TiC precipitation effectively refined the size of M7C3 carbides and reduced their cracking tendency. Thus, the wear resistance of 1Ti is comparable to that of 0Ti, although it has a lower hardness factor. However, the wear resistance of the alloy significantly decreased following the addition of Ti by more than 1 wt.% due to the lower hardness and CVF. Therefore, it can be said that the abrasive wear characteristics of the alloy are not only affected by the hardness, but also by the micro-structural constituents (type, size, and volume fraction of carbides) and silica sand size.

This review describes recent advances in copper-catalyzed difluoroalkylation reactions. The RCF2 radical is generally proposed in the mechanism of these reactions. At present, various types of copper-catalyzed difluoroalkylation reactions have been realized. According to their characteristics, we classify these difluoroalkylation reactions into three types.

Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) have been gaining significance and attention over the past decade because of their ability to furnish complex products by using readily available and simple starting materials while simultaneously eliminating the need to separate and purify any intermediates. More so, most of these products have been found to exhibit diverse biological activities. Another paradigm shift which has occurred contemporarily is the switch to heterogeneous catalysis, which results in additional benefits such as the reduction of waste and an increase in the safety of the process. More importantly, it allows the user to recover and reuse the catalyst for multiple runs. In summary, both methodologies adhere to the principles of green chemistry, a philosophy which needs to become overarchingly enshrined. The plethora of reactions and catalysts which have been developed gives hope that chemists are slowly changing their ideology. As a result, this review attempts to discuss multicomponent reactions catalysed by operationally heterogeneous catalysts in the past 10 years. In this review, a further distinction is made between the MCRs which lead to the formation of heterocycles and those which do not.

Downgoing/upgoing P/S-wave decomposition of ocean-bottom seismic (OBS) multicomponent data can help suppress the water-layer multiples and cross-talks between P- and S-waves, and therefore plays an important role in seismic migration and construction of P- and S-wave velocity models. We proposed novel composite calibration filters by introducing an additional dimension to the calibration of the particle velocity components, extending the wave-equation-based adaptive decomposition method. We also modified the existing workflow by jointly using primary reflections at near-to-medium offsets and ocean-bottom refractions at far offsets in the calibration optimization. The decomposition scheme with the novel calibration filters yielded satisfactory results in a deep-water OBS field data decomposition example. Expected decomposition effects, such as the enhancement of primary reflections and the attenuation of water-layer multiple events, can be observed in the decomposed upgoing wavefields. An experiment illustrated the effectiveness of composite calibration filters that compensated for unexpected velocity errors along the offset dimension.

To take full advantage of the multicomponent transient electromagnetic method, we summarize the advantages of multicomponent exploration based on simulation calculation. We have carried out experiments on the effectiveness of the method in the known copper-nickel mining area. The results show that the characteristic curve of the horizontal component can effectively point to the central direction of the low-resistivity ore body and reflect the occurrence of the ore body. The degree of coupling between the vertical component and the ore body is high, which is beneficial for quantitative inversion. The results for the horizontal component and vertical component interpretations are consistent, which reduces the limitation of conventional single vertical component interpretation and effectively improves the work efficiency in field work.

Background and objectives: Starting the multicomponent training sessions with aerobic-based exercises or resistance-based exercises may have different effects on functional fitness and body composition. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of the order of exercises in elderly women’s physical fitness and body composition by multicomponent training. Materials and Methods: A sample of 91 elderly females, aged between 60 and 81, were randomly divided into three groups (A, B, C). Each group performed the following order of exercises: Group A consisted of warm-up followed by aerobic training, strength training, stretching and cool down; Group B consisted of warm-up followed by strength training, aerobic training, stretching and cool down; while the control group (C) did not perform any exercise. Functional fitness and body composition were assessed at 3 moments of the 32 weeks (baseline and after each 16-week) intervention. One-way ANOVA for comparison between groups, ANOVA for repeated measures and multiple linear regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: The results showed that the functional fitness and body composition varied over the 32 weeks of multicomponent training. However, group A seems to show higher improvements in more variables. Conclusion: In the current study, group A obtained better results in most of the evaluated parameters. Thus, to improve functional fitness, warm-up, followed by aerobic training, strength training and relaxation may be the most suitable training for elderly women.

In this report, 19 boron-containing depsipeptides were synthesized via microwave-assisted Passerini three-component reaction (P-3CR) in an aqueous environment. The linker-free DAHMI fluorescent tagging approach was used on selected boron-containing compounds to study the relationship between their structures and their level of cellular uptake of HEK293 cells. The biological data retrieved from the DAHMI experiments indicated that while the structures of tested compounds may be highly similar, their bio-distribution profile could be vastly distinctive. The reported optimized one-pot synthetic strategy along the linker-free in vitro testing protocol could provide an efficient platform to accelerate the development of boron-containing drugs.

In this study, a hybrid modeling framework was developed for predicting size distribution and content uniformity of granules in a bi-component wet granulation system with components of differing hydrophobicities. Two bi-component formulations, (1) ibuprofen-USP and micro-crystalline cellulose and (2) micronized acetaminophen and micro-crystalline cellulose, were used in this study. First, a random forest method was used for predicting the probability of nucleation mechanism (immersion and solid spread), depending upon the formulation hydrophobicity. The predicted nucleation mechanism probability is used to determine the aggregation rate as well as the initial particle distribution in the population balance model. The aggregation process was modeled as Type-I: Sticking aggregation and Type-II: Deformation driven aggregation. In Type-I, the capillary force dominant aggregation mechanism is represented by the particles sticking together without deformation. In the case of Type-II, the particle deformation causes an increase in the contact area, representing a viscous force dominant aggregation mechanism. The choice between Type-I and II aggregation is determined based on the difference in nucleation mechanism that is predicted using the random forest method. The model was optimized and validated using the granule content uniformity data and size distribution data obtained from the experimental studies. The proposed framework predicted content non-uniform behavior for formulations that favored immersion nucleation and uniform behavior for formulations that favored solid-spreading nucleation.

This review summarizes recent developments in multicomponent reactions of diazo compounds. The role of diazo reagent and the type of interaction between components was analyzed to structure the discussion. In contrast to previous reviews on related topics mostly focused on metal catalyzed transformations, a substantial amount of organocatalytic or catalyst-free methodologies is covered in this work.

We describe here our results from the copper-catalyzed three component reaction of 2-azidobenzaldehyde, anthranilamide and terminal alkynes, using Et3N as base, and DMSO as solvent. Depending on the temperature and amount of Et3N used in the reactions, 1,2,3-triazolyl-quinazolinones or 1,2,3-triazolyl-dihydroquinazolinone could be obtained. When the reactions were performed at 100 °C using 2 equivalents of Et3N, 1,2,3-triazolyl-dihydroquinazolinone was formed in 82% yield, whereas reactions carried out at 120 °C using 1 equivalent of Et3N provided 1,2,3-triazolyl-quinazolinones in moderate-to-good yields.

A spiral wound membrane (SWM) is employed to separate acid gases (mainly CO2) from natural gas due to its robustness, lower manufacturing cost, and moderate packing density compared to hollow fiber membranes. Various mathematical models are available to describe the separation performance of SWMs under different operating conditions. Nevertheless, most of the mathematical models deal with only binary gas mixtures (CO2 and CH4) that may lead to an inaccurate assessment of separation performance of multicomponent natural gas mixtures. This work is aimed to develop an SWM separation model for multicomponent natural gas mixtures. The succession stage method is employed to discretize the separation process within the multicomponent SWM module for evaluating the product purity, hydrocarbon loss, stage cut, and permeate acid gas composition. Our results suggest that multicomponent systems tend to generate higher product purity, lower hydrocarbon loss, and augmented permeate acid gas composition compared to the binary system. Furthermore, different multicomponent systems yield varied separation performances depending on the component of the acid gas. The developed multicomponent SWM separation model has the potential to design and optimize the spiral wound membrane system for industrial application.

A novel organocatalytic multicomponent cyanovinylation of aldehydes was designed for the synthesis of conjugated cyanomethyl vinyl ethers. The reaction was implemented for the synthesis of a 3-substituted 3-(cyanomethoxy)acrylates, using aldehydes as substrates, acetone cyanohydrin as the cyanide anion source, and methyl propiolate as the source of the vinyl component. The multicomponent reaction is catalyzed by N-methyl morpholine (2.5 mol%) to deliver the 3-(cyanomethoxy)acrylates in excellent yields and with preponderance of the E-isomer. The multicomponent reaction manifold is highly tolerant to the structure and composition of the aldehyde (aliphatic, aromatic, heteroaromatics), and it is instrumentally simple (one batch, open atmospheres), economic (2.5 mol% catalyst, stoichiometric reagents), environmentally friendly (no toxic waste), and sustainable (easy scalability).

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)-formerly known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide. Since there is currently no approved pharmacotherapy for MASLD, there is an urgent unmet need for efficacious therapeutics for this disease. Hepar compositum (HC-24) is a multicomponent medicinal product that consists of 24 natural ingredients. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in an obesity-associated MASLD mouse model, but its potential to reduce MASLD-associated fibrosis had not been explored before this study. Here, we investigated the hepatic anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic potential of HC-24 in a streptozotocin (STZ)- and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced model of MASLD. Mice received a single injection of low-dose STZ at 2 days of age, followed by HFD feeding from 4 to 9 weeks of age. Mice were treated every second day with HC-24 or daily with the positive control telmisartan from 6 to 9 weeks of age. A non-diseased control group was included as a healthy reference. An explorative small-scale pilot study demonstrated that HC-24 improved liver histology, resulting in a lower NAFLD activity score and reduced liver fibrosis. A subsequent full study confirmed these effects and showed that HC-24 reduced hepatic inflammation, specifically reducing T helper cell and neutrophil influx, and decreased hepatic fibrosis (with qualitatively reduced collagen type I and type III immunopositivity) in the absence of an effect on body and liver weight, blood glucose or liver steatosis. These results show that HC-24 has hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties in an STZ- and HFD-induced model of MASLD/MASH, suggesting that this multicomponent medicine has therapeutic potential for MASLD patients.

These results demonstrate that mucosal immunization can induce effective systemic and mucosal antibody responses. This finding warrants further investigation and optimization of humoral and cellular responses as a viable alternative to subcutaneous immunization for urgently needed GAS vaccines.

A formal homogeneous gold-catalyzed A3-coupling, starting from benzyl alcohols, is reported for the straightforward synthesis of propargylamines. This is the first process where these highly valuable compounds have been synthesized, starting from the corresponding alcohols in a one-pot oxidation procedure using MnO2, followed by a HAuCl4·3H2O catalyzed multicomponent reaction. The final products are obtained with very good yields in short reaction times, which is of fundamental interest for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. The usefulness and efficiency of our methodology is successfully compared against the same reaction starting from aldehydes.

We formulate the statistics of the discrete multicomponent fragmentation event using a methodology borrowed from statistical mechanics. We generate the ensemble of all feasible distributions that can be formed when a single integer multicomponent mass is broken into fixed number of fragments and calculate the combinatorial multiplicity of all distributions in the set. We define random fragmentation by the condition that the probability of distribution be proportional to its multiplicity, and obtain the partition function and the mean distribution in closed form. We then introduce a functional that biases the probability of distribution to produce in a systematic manner fragment distributions that deviate to any arbitrary degree from the random case. We corroborate the results of the theory by Monte Carlo simulation, and demonstrate examples in which components in sieve cuts of the fragment distribution undergo preferential mixing or segregation relative to the parent particle.

Ocean bottom seismometer (OBS) can record both pressure and displacement data by modern marine seismic acquisitions with four-component (4C) sensors. Elastic full-waveform inversion (EFWI) has shown to recover high-accuracy parameter models from multicomponent seismic data. However, due to limitation of the standard elastic wave equation, EFWI can hardly simulate and utilize the pressure components. To remedy this problem, we propose an elastic full-waveform inversion method based on a modified acoustic-elastic coupled (AEC) equation. Our method adopts a new misfit function to account for both 1C pressure and 3C displacement data, which can easily adjust the weight of different data components and eliminate the differences in the order of magnitude. Owing to the modified AEC equation, our method can simultaneously generate pressure and displacement records and avoid explicit implementation of the boundary condition at the seabed. Besides, we also derive a new preconditioned truncated Gauss–Newton algorithm to consider the Hessian associated with ocean bottom seismic 4C data. We analyze the multiparameter sensitivity kernels of pressure and displacement components and use two numerical experiments to demonstrate that the proposed method can provide more accurate multiparameter inversions with higher resolution and convergence rate.

The title compound—cis,exo-1,2,3,4,4a,13b-hexahydro-1,4-methano-5-isopropoxy-9H-tribenzo[b,f]azepine—was synthesized in 83% isolated yield by a palladium-catalyzed one-pot strategy from 1-iodo-2-isopropoxybenzene and ortho-bromoaniline. The azepine derivative was fully characterized (FT-IR, MS, 1H and 13C-NMR, elemental analysis) and all proton and carbon signals have been completely assigned by 2D NMR experiments.

Configuration entropy is believed to stabilize disordered solid solution phases in multicomponent systems at elevated temperatures over intermetallic compounds by lowering the Gibbs free energy. Traditionally, the increment of configuration entropy with temperature was computed by time-consuming thermodynamic integration methods. In this work, a new formalism based on a hybrid combination of the Cluster Expansion (CE) Hamiltonian and Monte Carlo simulations is developed to predict the configuration entropy as a function of temperature from multi-body cluster probability in a multi-component system with arbitrary average composition. The multi-body probabilities are worked out by explicit inversion and direct product of a matrix formulation within orthonomal sets of point functions in the clusters obtained from symmetry independent correlation functions. The matrix quantities are determined from semi canonical Monte Carlo simulations with Effective Cluster Interactions (ECIs) derived from Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The formalism is applied to analyze the 4-body cluster probabilities for the quaternary system Cr-Fe-Mn-Ni as a function of temperature and alloy concentration. It is shown that, for two specific compositions (Cr 25Fe 25Mn 25Ni 25 and Cr 18Fe 27Mn 27Ni 28), the high value of probabilities for Cr-Fe-Fe-Fe and Mn-Mn-Ni-Ni are strongly correlated with the presence of the ordered phases L1 2 -CrFe 3 and L1 0-MnNi, respectively. These results are in an excellent agreement with predictions of these ground state structures by ab initio calculations. The general formalism is used to investigate the configuration entropy as a function of temperature and for 285 different alloy compositions. It is found that our matrix formulation of cluster probabilities provides an efficient tool to compute configuration entropy in multi-component alloys in a comparison with the result obtained by the thermodynamic integration method. At high temperatures, it is shown that many-body cluster correlations still play an important role in understanding the configuration entropy before reaching the solid solution limit of high-entroy alloys (HEAs).

A series of 2-arylquinazolines have been synthesized in moderate to excellent yields by one-pot tandem reaction of (2-aminophenyl)methanols, aldehydes and ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN). The utility of this transformation was demonstrated by its compatibility with a wide range of functional groups. Thus, the method represents a simple and practical procedure to access 2-arylquinazolines.

A novel chemoenzymatic one-pot multicomponent synthesis of thiazole derivatives was developed. A series of thiazole derivatives were synthesized with high yields up to 94% under mild enzyme-catalyzed conditions. The blank and control experiments reveal that trypsin from porcine pancreas (PPT) displayed great catalytic activity to promote this reaction and showed a wide tolerance range towards different substrate amines. This trypsin-catalyzed multicomponent conversion method provides a novel strategy to synthesize thiazole derivatives and expands the application of enzymes in organic synthesis.

A series of 3'-aminospiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine]-2,5',10'-trione derivatives have been synthesized by a one-pot three-component reaction of isatin, malononitrile or ethyl cyanoacetate and phthalhydrazide catalyzed by piperidine under ultrasound irradiation. For comparison the reactions were carried out under both conventional and ultrasonic conditions. In general, improvement in rates and yields were observed when the reactions were carried out under sonication compared with classical conditions.

We determined the entropy of high entropy alloys by investigating single-crystalline nickel and five high entropy alloys: two fcc-alloys, two bcc-alloys and one hcp-alloy. Since the configurational entropy of these single-phase alloys differs from alloys using a base element, it is important to quantify the entropy. Using differential scanning calorimetry, cp-measurements are carried out from −170 °C to the materials’ solidus temperatures TS. From these experiments, we determined the thermal entropy and compared it to the configurational entropy for each of the studied alloys. We applied the rule of mixture to predict molar heat capacities of the alloys at room temperature, which were in good agreement with the Dulong-Petit law. The molar heat capacity of the studied alloys was about three times the universal gas constant, hence the thermal entropy was the major contribution to total entropy. The configurational entropy, due to the chemical composition and number of components, contributes less on the absolute scale. Thermal entropy has approximately equal values for all alloys tested by DSC, while the crystal structure shows a small effect in their order. Finally, the contributions of entropy and enthalpy to the Gibbs free energy was calculated and examined and it was found that the stabilization of the solid solution phase in high entropy alloys was mostly caused by increased configurational entropy.

Synthesis of indolyl 4H-chromenes via a three-component reaction catalyzed by lipase in ionic liquidsis reported here for the first time. High yields (77–98%) were obtained when Mucor miehei lipase was used as the catalyst in [EMIM][BF4]. Furthermore, [EMIM][BF4] exhibited good reusability in this enzymatic reaction. This study affords a new example of lipase catalytic promiscuity and broadens the application range of ionic liquid in biocatalysis.

For targets with complex motion, such as ships fluctuating with oceanic waves and high maneuvering airplanes, azimuth echo signals can be modeled as multicomponent quadratic frequency modulation (QFM) signals after migration compensation and phase adjustment. For the QFM signal model, the chirp rate (CR) and the quadratic chirp rate (QCR) are two important physical quantities, which need to be estimated. For multicomponent QFM signals, the cross terms create a challenge for detection, which needs to be addressed. In this paper, by employing a novel multi-scale parametric symmetric self-correlation function (PSSF) and modified scaled Fourier transform (mSFT), an effective parameter estimation algorithm is proposed—referred to as the Two-Dimensional product modified Lv’s distribution (2D-PMLVD)—for QFM signals. The 2D-PMLVD is simple and can be easily implemented by using fast Fourier transform (FFT) and complex multiplication. These measures are analyzed in the paper, including the principle, the cross term, anti-noise performance, and computational complexity. Compared to the other three representative methods, the 2D-PMLVD can achieve better anti-noise performance. The 2D-PMLVD, which is free of searching and has no identifiability problems, is more suitable for multicomponent situations. Through several simulations and analyses, the effectiveness of the proposed estimation algorithm is verified.
