In this paper, a Cr coating was prepared by induction heating and pack-cementation chromizing on AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel. Then, the cold-rolling deformation and annealing treatment were introduced to refine the coarse matrix grains caused by pack-chromizing and improve the overall performance of 304 austenitic stainless steel. The phase composition, element distribution, and microstructure of the coating were carefully characterized. The microhardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the coating were tested. The results show that the Cr coating with a thickness of 100 μm is mainly composed of a (Cr,Fe)23C6, (Cr,Fe)7C3, and α-Fe-Cr solid solution. After the cold-rolling deformation and subsequent annealing treatment, the grains are significantly refined and the Cr coating is divided into two layers, consisting of carbon-chromium compounds such as Cr23C6, Cr7C3, Cr2C, and Cr3C2 in the surface layer and a Fe-Cr solid solution in the subsurface layer. The cold-rolling deformation and annealing treatment significantly improved the microhardness and wear resistance of the coated sample, and the corrosion resistance was also better than that of the uncoated sample.

In recent years, with the increase in environmental awareness, people have become more and more concerned about the effectiveness with which coal burns. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has become an important way of coal elemental analysis because of its uncomplicated sample handling, remote sensing capability, and superior sensitivity in identifying a wide range of elements, including both major and minor constituents, down to trace levels. However, the complexity of its mechanism of action, the experimental environmental factors, and the presence of matrix effects in its measurement spectrum have affected the measurement accuracy. In this paper, on the basis of introducing the experimental process and principle of LIBS, we summarize and analyze the influence of each factor on the LIBS detection medium, summarize the mainstream model analysis algorithms, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each model. While summarizing the LIBS in media detection in recent years, it aims to provide strong support and guidance for subsequent more in-depth exploration and research.

In the context of carbon neutrality, the low-carbon transition in agriculture is crucial to achieving carbon mitigation through clean production. The provision of agricultural productive services (APS) is pivotal for modernizing farming practices in China. However, the impact of this on the low-carbon transformation has received limited attention. This research examined the non-linear relationship between agricultural productive services and low-carbon development, including verifying a threshold effect with APS as the threshold variable, employing panel data for 31 provinces in China from 2010 to 2021. The results of the study suggested that the effect of services associated with agricultural productivity on the transition of the agricultural sector to low-carbon practices varied across threshold ranges. Specifically, when the APS exceeded the threshold of 2.4396, a significant suppressive effect was observed on carbon emission intensity. Further analysis revealed that APS indirectly influenced the farmland scale and agricultural technological advancements, thereby promoting the low-carbon transition of China’s agriculture. Based on these results, it is recommended to intensify the development of APS in key cereal-producing regions, while emphasizing the harmonious progress of these services in conjunction with large-scale farmland management.

In numerical simulations, achieving high accuracy without significantly increasing computational cost is often a challenge. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved finite volume Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO) scheme for structured grids. By employing a single-point quadrature rule to perform flux integration on the control volume faces, this scheme is designed for use in NUAA-Turbo three-dimensional fluid solvers based on structured grids, utilizing RANS and RANS/LES coupling to simulate turbomachinery flows. Firstly, the new WENO scheme is validated against classical numerical test cases to evaluate its stability and reliability in handling discontinuities, double Mach reflection problems, and Rayleigh–Taylor (RT) instability. Compared to the original scheme, this improved finite-volume WENO scheme demonstrates better stability near discontinuities and more effectively resolves flow features at the same grid resolution. Next, for engineering applications related to turbomachinery, such as compressor and turbine characteristics, calculations using RANS are performed and the results obtained with WENO-ZQ3 and WENO-JS3 are compared. Finally, the new fifth-order WENO scheme is applied to RANS/LES coupling simulations of turbine wake and film cooling. The results indicate that the improved finite-volume WENO scheme provides better stability and accuracy in engineering applications. For instance, the average error in calculating compressor efficiency characteristics is reduced from 0.76% to 0.05%, the error in turbine vane pressure distribution compared to the experimental values is within 1%, and the error in film cooling efficiency centerline distribution compared to the experimental values is within 3%. Additionally, the qualitative results of turbine wake and film cooling show that even with a small number of grid points, more detailed flow physics can be captured, thereby reducing computational costs in aerodynamic applications.

Concrete materials are widely used in engineering projects, with fine aggregates (sand) being a key component currently in short supply. Copper tailings sand, a waste by-product of copper mining, accumulates in large quantities in tailings dams. Recycling and reusing this waste sand is crucial for environmental sustainability. This paper investigated the incorporation of copper tailings sand into concrete as a partial replacement for fine aggregates and evaluated its effects on concrete’s workability and mechanical properties. The experimental results indicate that the addition of copper tailings sand reduced the workability and compressive strength of concrete. Specifically, at a 60% substitution rate, the slump of the concrete was reduced by 15%, and the axial strength was closest to that of ordinary concrete, with a reduction of 2.5%. As the proportion of copper tailings sand increased from 0% to 80%, the average axial strength decreased from 37.3 MPa to 34.9 MPa, and stiffness decreased by approximately 6.43%. A complete stress–strain curve equation was proposed based on fitting relevant parameters, closely aligning with experimental data. Moderately adding tailings sand can help address the issue of large amounts of waste sand accumulating in tailings dams while maintaining acceptable concrete properties.

At present, there is a global rise in electricity consumption, leading to an accelerated depletion of natural resources due to the reliance on fossil fuels to fulfill this energy demand. Consequently, there exists a worldwide emphasis on enhancing the proportion of renewable energy sources in electricity generation. Biomass, as a renewable energy source, presents a viable alternative to certain fossil energy sources for combustion in electricity generation. This study focuses on a 660 MW coal-fired power plant as the subject of investigation, employing Aspen Plus simulation software (V11) to replicate the operational dynamics of the plant. A model of the direct mixed combustion biomass system within the coal-fired boiler is constructed, and its accuracy is validated against operational data obtained from the power plant. Moreover, a model elucidating the direct co-combustion of biomass in a coal-fired boiler, augmented by flue gas recirculation, was developed through the integration of biomass pre-treatment and flue gas recirculation technologies. This study explores the impacts of varying biomass blending ratios and flue gas recirculation on parameters, including flue gas volume, power generation efficiency, boiler performance, water vapor content, and emissions of pollutants. These findings indicate an inverse relationship between the mixing ratio and various performance metrics as follows: power generation, boiler efficiency, as well as NOX and SO2 content, with larger mixing ratios resulting in diminished values. Furthermore, the incorporation of flue gas recirculation was observed to mitigate furnace temperatures and suppress NOX emissions.

The Laasraoui segmented and Arrhenius flow stress model, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) model, grain size prediction model, and hot processing map (HPM) of Fe-Cr-Mo-Mn steels were established through isothermal compression tests. The models and HPM were proven by experiment to be highly accurate. As the deformation temperature decreased or the strain rate increased, the flow stress increased and the grain size of the Fe-Cr-Mo-Mn steel decreased, while the volume fraction of DRX (Xdrx) decreased. The optimal range of the hot processing was determined to be 1050–1200 °C/0.369–1 s−1. Zigzag-like grain boundaries (GBs) and intergranular cracks were found in the unstable region, in which the disordered martensitic structure was observed. The orderly packet martensite was formed in the general processing region, and the mixed structure with incomplete DRX grains was composed of coarse and fine grains. The microstructure in the optimum processing region was composed of DRX grains and the multistage martensite. The validity of the Laasraoui segmented flow stress model, DRX model, grain size prediction model, and HPM was verified by upsetting tests.

To address surface morphological defects that have a destructive effect on the epitaxial wafer from the aspect of 4H-SiC epitaxial growth, this study thoroughly examined many key factors that affect the density of defects in 4H-SiC epitaxial wafer, including the ratio of carbon to silicon, growth time, application of a buffer layer, hydrogen etching and other process parameters. Through systematic experimental verification and data analysis, it was verified that when the carbon–silicon ratio was accurately controlled at 0.72, the density of defects in the epitaxial wafer was the lowest, and its surface flatness showed the best state. In addition, it was found that the growth of the buffer layer under specific conditions could effectively reduce defects, especially surface morphology defects. This provides a new idea and method for improving the surface quality of epitaxial wafers. At the same time, we also studied the influence of hydrogen etching on the quality of epitaxial wafers. The experimental results show that proper hydrogen etching can optimize surface quality, but excessive etching may lead to the exposure of substrate defects. Therefore, it is necessary to carefully control the conditions of hydrogen etching in practical applications to avoid adverse effects. These findings have important guiding significance for optimizing the quality of epitaxial wafers.

In this study, we systematically explore the impact of C/Si ratio, pre-carbonization time, H2 etching time, and growth pressure on the buffer layer and subsequent epitaxial layer of 6-inch 4H-SiC wafers. Our findings indicate that the buffer layer’s C/Si ratio and growth pressure significantly influence the overall quality of the epitaxial wafer. Specifically, an optimal C/Si ratio of 0.5 and a growth pressure of 70 Torr yield higher-quality epitaxial layers. Additionally, the pre-carbonization time and H2 etching time primarily affect the uniformity and surface quality of the epitaxial wafer, with a pre-carbonization time of 3 s and an H2 etching time of 3 min found to enhance the surface quality of the epitaxial layer.

The traditional receiver employs scalar tracking loops, resulting in degraded navigation performance in weak signal and high dynamic scenarios. An innovative design of a vector tracking receiver based on nonlinear Kalman filter (KF) tracking loops is proposed in this paper, which combines the strengths of both vector tracking and KF-based tracking loops. First, a comprehensive description of the vector tracking receiver model is presented, and unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is applied to nonlinear tracking loop. Second, to enhance the stability and robustness of the KF tracking loop, we introduce square root filtering and an adaptive mechanism. The tracking loop based on square root UKF (SRUKF) can dynamically adjust its filtering parameters based on signal noise and feedback Doppler error. Finally, the proposed method is implemented on a software-defined receiver (SDR), and the field vehicle experiment demonstrates the superiority of this method over other tracking methods in complex dynamic environments.

The long-term operation of motors induces substantial alterations in the surface conductivity and nonlinear coefficient of anti-corona paint, diminishing its efficacy and jeopardizing the longevity of large motors. Hence, the development of high-performance anti-corona paint holds paramount importance in ensuring motor safety. In this study, we integrate two nano-fillers, namely silicon carbide (SiC) and organic montmorillonite (O-MMT), into a composite matrix comprising micron silicon carbide and epoxy resin (SiC/EP). Subsequently, three distinct types of anti-corona paint are formulated: SiC/EP, Nano-SiC/EP, and O-MMT/SiC/EP. Remarkably, O-MMT/SiC/EP exhibits a glass transition temperature about 25 °C higher than that of SiC/EP, underscoring its superior thermal properties. Moreover, the introduction of nano-fillers markedly augments the surface conductivity of the anti-corona paint. Aging tests, conducted across varying temperatures, unveil a notable reduction in the fluctuation range of surface conductivity post-aging. Initially, the nonlinear coefficients exhibit a declining trend, succeeded by an ascending trajectory. The O-MMT/SiC/EP composite displays a maximum nonlinearity coefficient of 1.465 and a minimum of 1.382. Furthermore, the incorporation of nanofillers amplifies the dielectric thermal stability of epoxy resin composites, with O-MMT/SiC/EP showcasing the pinnacle of thermal endurance. Overall, our findings elucidate the efficacy of nano-fillers in enhancing the performance and longevity of anti-corona paint, particularly highlighting the exceptional attributes of the O-MMT/SiC/EP composite in bolstering motor safety through improved thermal stability and electrical properties.

In this study, a 4H-SiC homoepitaxial layer was grown on a 150 mm 4° off-axis substrate using a horizontal hot wall chemical vapor deposition reactor. Comparing C3H8 and C2H4 as C sources, the sample grown with C2H4 exhibited a slower growth rate and lower doping concentration, but superior uniformity and surface roughness compared to the C3H8-grown sample. Hence, C2H4 is deemed more suitable for commercial epitaxial wafer growth. Increasing growth pressure led to decreased growth rate, worsened thickness uniformity, reduced doping concentration, deteriorated uniformity, and initially improved and then worsened surface roughness. Optimal growth quality was observed at a lower growth pressure of 40 Torr. Furthermore, the impact of buffer layer growth on epitaxial quality varied significantly based on different C/Si ratios, emphasizing the importance of selecting the appropriate conditions for subsequent device manufacturing.

In recent years, the rapid development of exoplanet research has provided us with an opportunity to better understand planetary systems in the universe and to search for signs of life. In order to further investigate the prevalence of habitable exoplanets and to validate planetary formation theories, as well as to comprehend planetary evolution, we have utilized confirmed exoplanet data obtained from the NASA Exoplanet Archive database, including data released by telescopes such as Kepler and TESS. By analyzing these data, we have selected a sample of planets around F, G, K, and M-type stars within a radius range of 1 to 20 R⊕ and with orbital periods ranging from 0.4 days to 400 days. Using the IDEM method based on these data, we calculated the overall formation rate, which is estimated to be 2.02%. Then, we use these data to analyze the relationship among planet formation rates, stellar metallicity, and stellar gravitational acceleration (logg). We firstly find that the formation rate of giant planets is higher around metal-rich stellars, but it inhibits the formation of gas giants when logg > 4.5, yet the stellar metallicity seems to have no effect on the formation rate of smaller planets. Secondly, the host stellar gravitational acceleration affects the relationship between planet formation rate and orbital period. Thirdly, there is a robust power-law relationship between the orbital period of smaller planets and their formation rate. Finally, we find that, for a given orbital period, there is a positive correlation between the planet formation rate and the logg.

This study aimed to identify active miRNA editing sites during adipose development in Ningxiang pigs and analyze their characteristics and functions. Based on small RNA-seq data from the subcutaneous adipose tissues of Ningxiang pigs at four stages—30 days (piglet), 90 days (nursery), 150 days (early fattening), and 210 days (late fattening)—we constructed a developmental map of miRNA editing in the adipose tissues of Ningxiang pigs. A total of 505 miRNA editing sites were identified using the revised pipeline, with C-to-U editing types being the most prevalent, followed by U-to-C, A-to-G, and G-to-U. Importantly, these four types of miRNA editing exhibited base preferences. The number of editing sites showed obvious differences among age groups, with the highest occurrence of miRNA editing events observed at 90 days of age and the lowest at 150 days of age. A total of nine miRNA editing sites were identified in the miRNA seed region, with significant differences in editing levels (p < 0.05) located in ssc-miR-23a, ssc-miR-27a, ssc-miR-30b-5p, ssc-miR-15a, ssc-miR-497, ssc-miR-15b, and ssc-miR-425-5p, respectively. Target gene prediction and KEGG enrichment analyses indicated that the editing of miR-497 might potentially regulate fat deposition by inhibiting adipose synthesis via influencing target binding. These results provide new insights into the regulatory mechanism of pig fat deposition.

Recent research has identified ADAR1 as a participant in the regulation of lipid accumulation in mice. However, there are no reports on the roles of ADAR1 in proliferation, apoptosis and differentiation of porcine preadipocytes. In this study, we investigated the role of ADAR1 in differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis of porcine preadipocytes using CCK-8, EdU staining, cell cycle detection, RT-qPCR, Western blot, a triglyceride assay and Oil Red O staining. The over-expression of ADAR1 significantly promoted proliferation but inhibited the differentiation and apoptosis of porcine preadipocytes. The inhibition of ADAR1 had the opposite effect on the proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of porcine preadipocytes with over-expressed ADAR1. Then, the regulation mechanisms of ADAR1 on preadipocyte proliferation were identified using RNA-seq, and 197 DEGs in response to ADAR1 knockdown were identified. The MAPK signaling pathway is significantly enriched, indicating its importance in mediating fat accumulation regulated by ADAR1. The study’s findings will aid in uncovering the mechanisms that regulate fat accumulation through ADAR1.

The critical structural parameters are optimized and studied using the numerical simulation method to improve the resolution and stability of the Micro-Thrust Measurement Platform (MTMP). Under two different ground random vibration environments, the parameters, such as pivot thickness, pendulum rod length, and pivot structure, are focused on analyzing the influence of the system’s resolution and stability. The results show that when the thickness of the pivot is 0.04 mm or 0.2 mm, and the pendulum rod length is 2 m, the effect of ground random vibration on the MTMP is minimized. At 0.1 mHz, it can reach 0.0057 μN/Hz. In the series double-pivot structure, an appropriate increase in the distance between the sheets can further optimize the above conclusions. The results and analysis within this study can provide support for the engineering design of the MTMP.

In recent decades, glaciers in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau (SETP) have been rapidly melting and showing a large scale of glacier mass loss. Due to the lack of large-scale, high-resolution, and high-precision observations, knowledge on the spatial distribution of the glacier mass balance and the response to climate change is limited in this region. We propose a TanDEM-X bi-static InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) algorithm with a non-local mean filter method and difference strategy, to improve the precision of glacier surface elevation change detection. Moreover, we improved the glacier mass balance estimation algorithm with a correction method for multi-source system errors and an uncertainty evaluation method based on error propagation theory to reduce the uncertainty of estimations. We used 13 pairs of TanDEM-X bi-static InSAR images to obtain the glacier mass balance data for the entire SETP. The total area of glaciers monitored was 5821 km2 and the total number of glaciers monitored was 2321; the glacier surface elevation change rate was −0.505 ± 0.005 m/yr, and the glacier mass balance estimation was −454.5 ± 13.1 mm w.eq. during 2000–2014. Additionally, we analyzed the spatial distribution of the glacier mass balance within the SETP using the sub-watershed analysis method. The results showed that the mass loss rate had a decreasing trend from the southeast to the northwest. Furthermore, the temperature change and the glacier mass loss rate showed a positive correlation from the southeast to the northwest in this region. This study greatly advances our understanding of the regularities of glacier dynamics in this region, and can provide scientific support for major national goals such as the rational utilization of surrounding water resources and construction of important transportation projects.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infections lead to severe respiratory diseases in pigs, resulting in significant economic losses for the global swine industry. While numerous studies have focused on specific gene functions or pathway activities during infection, an investigation of shared immune responses in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) after ASFV and PRRSV infections was lacking. In this study, we conducted a comparison using two single-cell transcriptomic datasets generated from PAMs under ASFV and PRRSV infection. Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) RIG-I (DDX58), MDA5 (IFIH1), and LGP2 (DHX58) were identified as particularly recognizing ASFV and PRRSV, triggering cellular defense responses, including the upregulation of four cytokine families (CCL, CXCL, IL, and TNF) and the induction of pyroptosis. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis and protein–protein interaction analysis, we identified thirteen gene and protein interactions shared by both scRNA-seq analyses, suggesting the ability to inhibit both ASFV and PRRSV viral replication. We discovered six proteins (PARP12, PARP14, HERC5, DDX60, RSAD2, and MNDA) in PAMs as inhibitors of ASFV and PRRSV replication. Collectively, our findings showed detailed characterizations of the immune responses in PAMs during ASFV and PRRSV infections, which may facilitate the treatments of these viral diseases.

Torreya grandis, an economically significant evergreen tree species exclusive to subtropical China, is highly valued for its seeds. However, the seed development process of T. grandis remains relatively unexplored. Given the pivotal role WRKY transcription factors (TFs) play in coordinating diverse cellular and biological activities, as well as crucial signaling pathways essential for plant growth and development, and the lack of comprehensive investigation into their specific functions in T. grandis, our study investigated its genome and successfully isolated 78 WRKY genes and categorized them into three distinct clades. A conserved motif analysis unveiled the presence of the characteristic WRKY domain in each identified TgWRKY protein. The examination of gene structures revealed variable numbers of introns (ranging from zero to eight) and exons (ranging from one to nine) among TgWRKY genes. A chromosomal distribution analysis demonstrated the presence of TgWRKY across eight chromosomes in T. grandis. Tissue-specific expression profiling unveiled distinctive patterns of these 78 TgWRKY genes across various tissues. Remarkably, a co-expression analysis integrating RNA-seq data and morphological assessments pinpointed the pronounced expression of TgWRKY25 during the developmental stages of T. grandis seeds. Moreover, a KEGG enrichment analysis, focusing on genes correlated with TgWRKY25 expression, suggested its potential involvement in processes such as protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, starch, and sucrose metabolism, thereby modulating seed development in T. grandis. These findings not only underscore the pivotal role of WRKY genes in T. grandis seed development but also pave the way for innovative breeding strategies.

Acute ammonia exposure has detrimental effects on shrimp, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be fully explored. In the present study, we investigated the impact of acute ammonia exposure on the gut microbiota of the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei and its association with shrimp mortality. Exposure to a lethal concentration of ammonia for 48 h resulted in increased mortality in L. vannamei, with severe damage to the hepatopancreas. Ammonia exposure led to a significant decrease in gut microbial diversity, along with the loss of beneficial bacterial taxa and the proliferation of pathogenic Vibrio strains. A phenotypic analysis revealed a transition from the dominance of aerobic to facultative anaerobic strains due to ammonia exposure. A functional analysis revealed that ammonia exposure led to an enrichment of genes related to biofilm formation, host colonization, and virulence pathogenicity. A species-level analysis and experiments suggest the key role of a Vibrio harveyi strain in causing shrimp disease and specificity under distinct environments. These findings provide new information on the mechanism of shrimp disease under environmental changes.

Differences between conventional sonar and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) sonar systems arise in achieving high angular and range resolution. MIMO sonar uses Matched Filtering (MF) with well-correlated transmitted signals to enhance spatial resolution by obtaining virtual arrays. However, imperfect correlation characteristics yield high sidelobe values, which hinder accurate target localization in underwater imagery. To address this, a Compressed Sensing (CS) method is proposed by reconstructing echo signals to suppress correlation noise between orthogonal waveforms. A shifted dictionary matrix and a deterministic Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) measurement matrix are used to multiply received echo signals to yield compressed measurements. A sparse recovery algorithm is applied to optimize signal reconstruction before joint transmit–receive beamforming forms a 2D sonar image in the angle-range domain. Numerical simulations and lake experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, by obtaining a lower sidelobe sonar image under sub-Nyquist sampling rates as compared with other approaches.

As an extremely important energy source, improving the efficiency and accuracy of coal classification is important for industrial production and pollution reduction. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a new technology for coal classification which has the ability to rapidly analyze coal compared with traditional coal analysis methods. In the practical application of LIBS, a large amount of labeling data is usually required, but it is quite difficult to obtain labeling data in industrial sites. In this paper, to address the problem of insufficient labeled data, a semi-supervised classification model (SGAN) based on adversarial neural network is proposed, which can utilize unlabeled data to improve the classification accuracy. The effects of labeled and unlabeled samples on the classification accuracy of the SGAN model are investigated, and the results show that the number of labeled and unlabeled samples are positively correlated, and the highest average classification accuracy that the model can achieve is 98.5%. In addition, the classification accuracies of SGAN and other models (e.g., CNN, RF) are also compared, and the results show that, with the same number of labeled samples in the three models, SGAN performs better after the number of unlabeled samples reaches a certain level, with an improvement of 0.7% and 2.5% compared to the CNN and RF models, respectively. This study provides new ideas for the application of semi-supervised learning in LIBS.

In order to explore the development trends of intelligent construction technology in the field of construction, this paper constructs a system dynamics (SD) model of the application and development of BIM and the new-generation information technology in the construction industry based on SD theory and a structural equation model (SEM). Vensim DSS is used to explore the relationship between the SD model and six subsystems. The dynamic simulation and the sensitivity analyses are also conducted. Results show that during 2023–2050, as the time series advances, the effect value of the dynamic simulation gradually increases. From 2035, intelligent construction technology shows a trend of rapid development between various subsystems and the SD model. The adjusted model and the status of the subsystem are consistent with the SD model simulation curve. It is verified that intelligent construction technology has good development prospects in the construction field.

To accurately predict the matching relationships between the various components and the engine performance in the whole aero-engine environment, this study introduces a two-dimensional throughflow simulation method for the whole aero-engine. This method is based on individual throughflow solvers for the turbo-machinery and the combustor. It establishes a throughflow simulation model for the whole engine by integrating with the compressor-turbine co-operating equations and boundary conditions. The turbo-machinery throughflow solver employs a circumferentially averaged form of the time-dependent Navier–Stokes equations (N-S) as the governing equation. The combustor solver uses the Reynolds Average Navier–Stokes (RANS) method to solve flow and chemical reaction processes by constructing turbulence, combustion, and radiation models. The accuracy of the component solver is validated using Pratt and Whitney’s three-stage axial compressor (P&W3S1) and General Electric’s high-pressure turbine (GE-EEE HPT), and the predicted results are consistent with the experimental data. Finally, the developed throughflow method is applied to simulate the throttling characteristics of the WZ-X turboshaft engine. The results predicted by the throughflow program are consistent with the GasTurb calculations, including the trends of shaft power delivered, specific fuel consumption (SFC), inlet airflow, and total pressure ratio of the compressor. The developed method to perform throughflow simulation of the whole aero-engine eliminates the dependence on a general component map. It can quickly obtain the meridian flow field parameters and overall engine characteristics, which is expected to guide the design and modification of the engine in the future.

In this work, squeeze casting experiments of flywheel housing components with a large wall thickness difference and a complex shape were carried out with AlSi9Mg aluminum alloy. The defects, microstructures, and mechanical properties under different process parameters were investigated. Furthermore, the local pressurization process was applied to the thick-walled positions to force-feed the cast defects. The mechanical properties and microstructures at these positions were analyzed. The results showed that the surface quality of formed components was good and that local pressurization could effectively reduce the shrinkage cavity and shrinkage porosity in thick walls, but the scope and effect of forced feeding were limited. The optimum process parameters were a pouring temperature of 650 °C, a specific pressure of 48 MPa, a mold temperature of 220 °C, a local pressurization of 800 MPa, and pressure delay times of 15 s (side A) and 17 s (side B). The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the formed component under validation experiments of the optimum process parameters were 201 MPa, 103 MPa, and 5.1%. Meanwhile, the fine grains of primary α-Al were mainly rosette and equiaxed grains, and the average grain size was about 40 μm. The microstructure of the eutectic silicon was acicular and was prone to segregation under pressure. According to profile morphology, the positions after pressurization were divided into a deformation zone, a direct action zone, and an indirect action zone. The coexistence of as-cast and plastic deformation microstructures was observed. The effect of local pressurization mainly involved a change in the solidification process, plastic deformation, and forced feeding.

In this work, Mg/Al composite plates were prepared by direct hot pressing under atmospheric conditions. The impacts of the strain rate (from 3.3 × 10−4 s−1 to 1.0 × 10−2 s−1) on the interface and bonding strength were investigated. Results showed that Mg/Al composite plates can be successfully fabricated by hot pressing with a 40% strain at 350 °C. The strain rate will largely affect the interfacial bonding quality and the structure of the interface. As the strain rate decreases, the thickness of the diffusion layer at the interface becomes thicker, and the composition of the interface gradually changes from a mixed zone of Mg17Al12 and Mg2Al3 to two single-phase zones. In all samples, the Mg2Al3 phase layer at the interface tends to exhibit brittle fracture during shear. When the strain rate of the hot pressing reduces to 3.3 × 10−4 s−1, the single-phase zone of Mg2Al3 at the interface breaks up. In the present work, the Mg/Al plate hot pressed at a strain rate of 1.0 × 10−3 s−1 demonstrates the highest shear strength.

The accurate prediction of tip leakage flow is the premise for flow mechanism analysis and compressor performance optimization. The detached eddy simulation (DES) method, which compromises cost and accuracy, has excellent potential for a high Reynolds flow, like a compressor.However, in the case of tip leakage flow, especially when there are multiple wall boundary layers and strong shear between the mainstream and leakage flow, the DES method exhibits accuracy deficiencies. This paper explores the resolution of the critical detailed structures using the DES method and its correlation with the accuracy of time-averaged aerodynamic parameter predictions. Based on this, we propose the necessary conditions for the DES method to accurately predict the leakage flow from the perspective of the detailed structure of the flow field. A simplified model is proposed to emphasize the characteristics of tip leakage flow with “multiple walls + narrow tip gap”, and the high-fidelity flow field of the WALE LES method is used as a benchmark. With the main fluctuation structures obtained by the SPOD method, it is concluded that the DES method is unable to resolve the Kelvin–Helmholtz instability at the initial position of the leakage, which leads to the generation of the secondary leakage vortex upstream of the leakage and the breakdown of the induced vortex, two critical flow structures, being incorrectly estimated. This can lead to misestimationsof the force direction on the tip leakage vortex and the main fluctuation on the flow field. As a result, the tip leakage vortex trajectory evolves toward the middle of the passage along the tangential direction and away from the upper wall downstream of the leakage compared with the LES results. Predictions of losses in the upstream and midstream regions are underestimated, whereas they are overestimated downstream of the leakage and outside the passage.Therefore, the accurate resolution of these two critical detailed structures is an essential prerequisite for the precise prediction of tip leakage flow using DES series methods.

In this work, high-frequency forced vibrations of lateral field excitation (LFE) devices with stepped electrodes based on monoclinic crystals GdCOB are modeled, and the influence laws of the device parameters (the step number, size, and thickness of the stepped electrodes) on the energy-trapping effects of the device are revealed. The results show that the step number has a significant effect on the energy-trapping effect of the device: with the increase in the step number, the stronger energy-trapping effect of the device can be obtained; with the increase in the thickness difference of two layers of electrodes, the energy-trapping effect of the device becomes stronger; with the increase in the difference of the electrode radius, the energy-trapping effect of the device is enhanced gradually. The results of this work can provide an important theoretical basis for the design of stepped-electrode LFE resonators and sensors with high-quality factors based on monoclinic crystals.

The escalating pace of construction activities has triggered a concerning surge in waste accumulation, underscoring the urgent need for the construction industry to prioritise environmental sustainability and resource conservation. Research indicates that construction waste (CW) from a typical building project can comprise a substantial 30% of the total weight of materials transported to the site. Significantly, one-third of this waste could be avoided through judicious decision-making in the design phase. While waste management during construction has gained substantial attention in the existing literature, the domain of decision-making in the design stage remains relatively unexplored. This study addresses this gap by conducting a systematic literature review (SLR) of 59 articles from 2011 to 2022. The findings emphasise the crucial role of informed decision-making processes in minimising CW during building projects. A conceptual framework emerges from the analysis, highlighting the necessity of establishing a foundation for design decision-making to tackle CW issues effectively. Collaborative networks among stakeholders and an enhanced supply chain, bolstered by robust information sharing, are identified as pivotal factors in improving CW minimisation efforts. Consequently, this study advocates for further research to expand the knowledge base in this vital area, underscoring the imperative for collective efforts in advancing sustainable practices within the construction industry.

Ornamental kale (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) is an attractive ornamental plant with a range of leaf colors and shapes. Breeding new varieties of ornamental kale has proven challenging due to its lengthy breeding cycle and the limited availability of genetic markers. In this study, a F1DH ornamental kale population comprising 300 DH lines was constructed using microspore culture. A high-density genetic map was developed by conducting whole-genome sequencing on 150 individuals from the F1DH population. The genetic map contained 1696 bin markers with 982,642 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) spanning a total distance of 775.81 cM on all nine chromosomes with an average distance between markers of 0.46 cM. The ornamental kale genetic map contained substantially more SNP markers compared with published genetic maps for other B. oleracea crops. Furthermore, utilizing this high-density genetic map, we identified seven quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that significantly influence the leaf shape of ornamental kale. These findings are valuable for understanding the genetic basis of key agronomic traits in ornamental kale. The F1DH progenies provide an excellent resource for germplasm innovation and breeding new varieties of ornamental kale. Additionally, the high-density genetic map provides crucial insights for gene mapping and unraveling the molecular mechanisms behind important agronomic traits in ornamental kale.

The RNA-binding glycine-rich proteins (RBGs) of the glycine-rich protein family play vital roles in regulating gene expression both at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. However, the members and functions in response to abiotic stresses of the RBG gene family remain unclear in Brassica oleracea. In this study, a total of 19 BoiRBG genes were identified through genome-wide analysis in broccoli. The characteristics of BoiRBG sequences and their evolution were examined. An analysis of synteny indicated that the expansion of the BoiRBG gene family was primarily driven by whole-genome duplication and tandem duplication events. The BoiRBG expression patterns revealed that these genes are involved in reaction to diverse abiotic stress conditions (i.e., simulated drought, salinity, heat, cold, and abscisic acid) and different organs. In the present research, the up-regulation of BoiRBGA13 expression was observed when subjected to both NaCl-induced and cold stress conditions in broccoli. Moreover, the overexpression of BoiRBGA13 resulted in a noteworthy reduction in taproot lengths under NaCl stress, as well as the inhibition of seed germination under cold stress in broccoli, indicating that RBGs play different roles under various stresses. This study provides insights into the evolution and functions of BoiRBG genes in Brassica oleracea and other Brassicaceae family plants.

In-hand object pose estimation is challenging for humans and robots due to occlusion caused by the hand and object. This paper proposes a soft finger that integrates inner vision with kinesthetic sensing to estimate object pose inspired by human fingers. The soft finger has a flexible skeleton and skin that adapts to different objects, and the skeleton deformations during interaction provide contact information obtained by the image from the inner camera. The proposed framework is an end-to-end method that uses raw images from soft fingers to estimate in-hand object pose. It consists of an encoder for kinesthetic information processing and an object pose and category estimator. The framework was tested on seven objects, achieving an impressive error of 2.02 mm and 11.34 degrees for pose error and 99.05% for classification.

Ultra-high temperature sterilized milk (UHT) is a popular dairy product known for its long shelf life and convenience. However, protein gel aging and fat quality defects like creaming and flavor deterioration may arise during storage. These problems are primarily caused by thermostable enzymes produced by psychrotrophic bacteria. In this study, four representative psychrotrophic bacteria strains which can produce thermostable enzymes were selected to contaminate UHT milk artificially. After 11, 11, 13, and 17 weeks of storage, the milk samples, which were contaminated with Pseudomonas fluorescens, Chryseobacterium carnipullorum, Lactococcus raffinolactis and Acinetobacter guillouiae, respectively, demonstrated notable whey separation. The investigation included analyzing the protein and fat content in the upper and bottom layers of the milk, as well as examining the particle size, Zeta potential, and pH in four sample groups, indicating that the stability of UHT milk decreases over time. Moreover, the spoiled milk samples exhibited a bitter taste, with the dominant odor being attributed to ketones and acids. The metabolomics analysis revealed that three key metabolic pathways, namely ABC transporters, butanoate metabolism, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism, were found to be involved in the production of thermostable enzymes by psychrotrophic bacteria. These enzymes greatly impact the taste and nutrient content of UHT milk. This finding provides a theoretical basis for further investigation into the mechanism of spoilage.

The ready-mixed concrete delivery (RMC) problem is a scheduling problem, where multiple trucks deliver concrete to order sites abiding by hard constraints in a dynamic environment. It is an NP-hard problem, impractical to solve using exhaustive methods. Thus, it requires heuristic-based approaches for generating sub-optimal schedules. Due to its distributed nature, we address this problem using a decentralised, scalable, cooperative MAS (multiagent system) that dynamically generates schedules. We explore the impact of teamwork by trucks on schedule optimisation. This work illustrates two novel approaches that address the dynamic RMC problem; a Delegate MAS approach and a team-extended approach. We present an empirical study, comparing our novel approaches with existing ones. The evaluation is performed by classifying the RMC case study scenarios into unique stress, scale, and dynamism characteristics. With 40% to 70% improvement over different metrics, the results show that both approaches generate better schedules, and using agent teams augments the performance. Thus, such decentralized MAS with the appropriate coordination approach and teamwork can be used for solving constrained dynamic scheduling problems.

This paper presents two experimental schemes, graded cyclic loading and unloading, and variable lower limit cyclic loading and unloading, to investigate the energy evolution and acoustic emission characteristics of rocks under different cyclic loading and unloading paths. The experiments were conducted using a WAW-300B microcomputer-controlled hydraulic servo universal testing machine and an AMSY-6 acoustic emission testing instrument. The evolution characteristics of both the acoustic emission ring count and energy count during the loading process were monitored in real-time, and the energy evolution and damage status of the rocks in each cycle were inferred from the stress–strain curve. The results show that: (1) under both types of cyclic loading and unloading paths, the elastic energy, dissipative energy, and total energy of the rocks are positively correlated with the number of cycles; (2) through comparative analysis of the energy dissipation rate and storage rate, it is concluded that the gradual accumulation of dissipative energy ultimately leads to rock failure; (3) based on the energy dissipation method, the study reveals that rock damage is more severe under the variable lower limit cyclic loading and unloading path; (4) under both types of cyclic loading and unloading, the acoustic emission ring count exhibits the Kaiser effect, and Felicity is negatively correlated with the number of cycles. This holds significance in comprehending the behavior of rock deterioration and forecasting its state of destruction.

Previous studies have shown that the contact wear estimation of circuit breakers can be based on the accumulative arc duration. However, one problem that remains unresolved is how to reliably measure the arc duration. Existing methods encounter difficulties in implementation and suffer from limited accuracy owing to the impact of the substation environment. To overcome these issues, this article presents a novel, non-invasive method for measuring arc duration that combines vibration–sound fusion and convolutional neural network. The proposed method demonstrates excellent performance, achieving errors below 0.1 ms under expected noise conditions and less than 1 ms in the presence of various forms of noise, transient interference, and even sensor failure. Its advantages include its ability to accurately measure arc duration and its robustness against noise and interference with unknown patterns and varying intensity as well as sensor failure. These features make it highly suitable for practical deployment in substation environments.

Canned bamboo shoots in clear water could produce a unique flavor through bacterial diversity via the fermentation process. Weissella, Streptococcus, Leuconostoc, Acinetobacter, Lactococcus and Lactobacillus were the main microorganisms. Tyrosine was the most abundant free amino acid (FAA), which had a negative correlation with Lactococcus. Ten kinds of flavor substances, such as 3-methyl-1-butanol, acetic acid, 2-phenylethyl ester, benzene acetaldehyde, benzoic acid and ethyl ester, were important influential factors in the flavor of fermented bamboo shoots. Through the verification test of tyrosine and phenylalanine decarboxylase, it was found that Lactococcus lactis TJJ2 could decompose tyrosine and phenylalanine to produce benzaldehyde and benzene acetaldehyde, which provided the fermented bamboo shoots with a grassy aroma.

To alleviate the increasing energy crisis and achieve energy saving and consumption reduction in building materials, preparing shape-stabilized phase-change materials using bio-porous carbon materials from renewable organic waste to building envelope materials is an effective strategy. In this work, pine cone porous biomass carbon (PCC) was prepared via a chemical activation method using renewable biomaterial pine cone as a precursor and potassium hydroxide (KOH) as an activator. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and octadecane (OD) were loaded into PCC using the vacuum impregnation method to prepare polyethylene glycol/pine cone porous biomass carbon (PEG/PCC) and octadecane/pine cone porous biomass carbon (OD/PCC) shape-stabilized phase-change materials. PCCs with a high specific surface area and pore volume were obtained by adjusting the calcination temperature and amount of KOH, which was shown as a caterpillar-like and block morphology. The shape-stabilized PEG/PCC and OD/PCC composites showed high phase-change enthalpies of 144.3 J/g and 162.3 J/g, and the solar–thermal energy conversion efficiencies of the PEG/PCC and OD/PCC reached 79.9% and 84.8%, respectively. The effects of the contents of PEG/PCC and OD/PCC on the temperature-controlling capability of rigid polyurethane foam composites were further investigated. The results showed that the temperature-regulating and temperature-controlling capabilities of the energy-storing rigid polyurethane foam composites were gradually enhanced with an increase in the phase-change material content, and there was a significant thermostatic plateau in energy absorption at 25 °C and energy release at 10 °C, which decreased the energy consumption.

The paper presents an analysis of collaborative processes in delivering mixed-use housing developments, with a focus on the adoption and roles of digital collaboration to address complex challenges. Extending the collaborative practice (CP) model, the research utilises a qualitative approach and an instrumental case study involving nine semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders from an award-winning mixed-use housing development in Australia. The study identifies key collaboration elements, such as early project establishment, a well-defined brief, and an adaptive integrated digital plan relevant to the interdisciplinary team. The scarcity of successful “extreme” mixed-use cases globally highlights the need for a core conceptual model for collaboration in complex housing developments, focused on digital collaboration, to support future projects in the sector. The research emphasises social innovation in mixed-use housing developments and highlights the importance of effective digital collaboration for addressing environmental, economic, and social sustainability needs. Contributions to the field extend both theoretical and empirical aspects of the CP model, critically exploring the potential of digital collaboration in mixed-use housing projects. The findings reveal critical elements for establishing a digital collaboration plan, leveraging technology to enhance stakeholder experiences and project delivery. The research is especially relevant in the post-COVID era, where digital collaboration gains significance for the industry.

The growth of 6-inch In0.485Ga0.515P has been examined in this study. The effects of growth temperature, the V/III ratio, and the H2 total flow on solid composition, growth rate, and crystal quality have been systematically investigated and discussed. Additionally, the effect of growth conditions on doping efficiency has been investigated. Finally, the relationship between electrical uniformity, optical uniformity, and the growth conditions of the 6-in epitaxial layer is discussed. At a growth temperature of 600 °C and a V/III of 250, a high uniformity 6-in InGaP epitaxial layer with an electrical uniformity of 0.33% and optical uniformity of 0.03% was produced. InGaP was grown by the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition method in an Aixtron 2800G4 reactor. High resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), photoluminescence (PL), sheet resistance, electrochemical capacitance-voltage (ECV), and the Hall effect were used to characterize the characteristics of InGaP epitaxial layers.

A simple, effective, and highly sensitive analytical approach was created and applied in this study for the accurate measurement of three β2-agonist residues (clenbuterol, salbutamol, and ractopamine) in meat samples. In the course of the experiment, new adsorbent molecular sieves (ZMS)@nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) composite materials were synthesized with the aid of hydrothermal synthesis. The composite adsorbent materials were prepared and characterized through scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, fluorescence, and zeta potential. Four determinants affecting the extraction and elution’s efficiency, such as the amount of adsorbent, the extraction time, desorption time, and the amount of extraction salt, were substantially optimized. The analytes were quantified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Final results of the methodological validation reflected that the ZMS@N-CQDs composite materials were able to adsorb three β2-agonist residues well and had good reproducibility. In the meantime, all analytes indicated good linearity with coefficient of determination R2 ≥ 0.9908. The limit of detection was 0.7–2.0 ng·g−1, the limit of quantification varied from 2.4 to 5.0 ng·g−1, the precision was lower than 11.9%, and the spiked recoveries were in the range of 79.5–97.8%. To sum up, the proposed approach was quite effective, reliable, and convenient for the simultaneous analysis of multiple β2-agonist residues. Consequently, this kind of approach was successfully applied for the analysis of such compounds in meat samples.

In this study, a special triangular defect (TD) was identified on 4H-SiC epitaxial wafers. The morphology and composition characteristics of these special TDs were revealed by Raman, atomic force microscope (AFM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Compared to ordinary triangular defects, this defect protruded from the epitaxial layer and exhibited a laminated shape. The study also discussed the effects of several factors, such as C/Si ratio and growth time, on the triangular defects. Through analysis of these results, we developed methods to suppress the triangular defects. This research provides new insights into the morphology, structure, and composition of this serious destructive defect and is helpful for improving the performance of SiC epitaxial wafers.

In this study, we used a horizontal hot-wall CVD epitaxy apparatus to grow epitaxial layers on 4° off-axis 4H-SiC substrates. Epitaxial films were grown by adjusting the flow rate of the source gas at different levels. With an increase in the source gas flow rate, a notable transition in the crystalline structure of the epitaxial layer was observed, gradually shifting from 4H-SiC to 3C-SiC. Furthermore, the quality of the epitaxial layer correspondingly exhibited degradation. Specifically, for epitaxial films grown under moderate gas flow rates, the central region demonstrated a crystalline structure of 4H-SiC, while the outer ring region exhibited a crystalline structure of 3C-SiC. Using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) to observe the transition zone of the two regions, a region of 3C/4H overlapping growth below it was found. Bright areas corresponded to 3C, while dark areas corresponded to 4H, as confirmed by Raman spectroscopy and other SEM images. The growth interfaces of the two crystal types were clearly discernible and relatively compact. Furthermore, the growth angles of the two crystal types and their correlation with the cutting direction strongly suggest that this overlap is related to the formation of micro-nano steps on the substrate surface.

This study explores the utilization of the Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) model, optimized using the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA), Simulate Anneal Arithmetic (SAA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Bayesian Optimization Algorithm (BOP), to construct an energy dissipation model for public buildings in Wuhan City. Energy consumption data and influential factors were collected from 100 public buildings, yielding 15 input variables, including building area, personnel density, and supply air temperature. Energy dissipation served as the output scalar indicator. Through correlation analysis between input and output variables, it was found that building area, personnel density, and supply air temperature significantly impact energy dissipation in public buildings. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed for data dimensionality reduction, selecting seven main influential factors along with energy dissipation values as the dataset for the predictive model. The BOP-RVM model showed superior performance in terms of R2 (0.9523), r (0.9761), and low RMSE (5.3894) and SI (0.056). These findings hold substantial practical value for accurately predicting building energy consumption and formulating effective energy management strategies.

Ningxiang pig is a breed renowned for its exceptional meat quality, but it possesses suboptimal carcass traits. To elucidate the genetic architecture of meat quality and carcass traits in Ningxiang pigs, we assessed heritability and executed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) concerning carcass length, backfat thickness, meat color parameters (L.LD, a.LD, b.LD), and pH at two postmortem intervals (45 min and 24 h) within a Ningxiang pig population. Heritability estimates ranged from moderate to high (0.30~0.80) for carcass traits and from low to high (0.11~0.48) for meat quality traits. We identified 21 significant SNPs, the majority of which were situated within previously documented QTL regions. Furthermore, the GRM4 gene emerged as a pleiotropic gene that correlated with carcass length and backfat thickness. The ADGRF1, FKBP5, and PRIM2 genes were associated with carcass length, while the NIPBL gene was linked to backfat thickness. These genes hold the potential for use in selective breeding programs targeting carcass traits in Ningxiang pigs.

In this study, a 4H-SiC homoepitaxial layer was grown on a 150 mm 4° off-axis substrate using a horizontal hot-wall CVD reactor. The research aimed to investigate the impact of varying the C/Si ratio and temperature while also changing the N2 flow rate and N2 flow ratio on the growth rate (thickness), doping, surface roughness, and uniformity of the large-size 4H-SiC epitaxial layer. The results indicate that the growth rate and thickness uniformity of the film increases with an increase in the C/Si ratio. Additionally, adjusting the N2 flow rate in a timely manner based on the change in the C/Si ratio is crucial to achieving the best epitaxial layer doping concentration and uniformity. The study found that, as the temperature increases, the film thickness and thickness uniformity also increase. The maximum thickness recorded was 6.2 μm, while the minimum thickness uniformity was 1.44% at 1570 °C. Additionally, the surface roughness reached its lowest point at 0.81 nm at 1570 °C. To compensate for the difference in thickness and doping concentration caused by temperature distribution and uneven airflow, the N2 flow ratio was altered. In particular, at a growth temperature of 1570 °C, a N2 flow ratio of 1.78 can improve the uniformity of doping by 4.12%.

The ecological environment in the karst region of southwest China is fragile, and vegetation degradation is considered the main cause of this phenomenon. Vegetation growth is affected by preferential flow due to a large number of fissures and macropores in the soil. Therefore, the preferential flow and preferential paths in local typical vegetation need to be studied. The distribution and developmental characteristics of preferential flow and preferential paths in three typical local stands were obtained by conducting field staining tracer experiments and using image processing techniques. The results showed that there was preferential flow movement in the soil moisture of the local understorey and that there was a high degree of preferential flow development and high variability. The degree of preferential flow in several typical forests can be expressed, from highest to lowest, in the following order: secondary forests, Cupressus duclouxiana Hickel (Hickel., 1814) forest, and Pinus massoniana (Lamb., 1803) forest. The preferential paths in the soil were mainly distributed above 15 cm, and the number of preferential paths with a small influence radius was much greater than that with a large influence radius. The preferential paths with an influence radius of 2.5~5 mm accounted for the largest proportion. The total number of preferential paths in the P. massoniana forest was small. The preferential paths in the secondary and C. duclouxiana Hickel forests were similar in number, but the secondary forests had more preferential paths with a large influence radius. This study investigated the characteristics of preferential flow and preferential paths in the typical forests of the karst region in southwest China, and it can provide data and research directions for the study of hydrological processes in local forest vegetation.

In the genomes of diploid organisms, runs of homozygosity (ROH), consecutive segments of homozygosity, are extended. ROH can be applied to evaluate the inbreeding situation of individuals without pedigree data and to detect selective signatures via ROH islands. We sequenced and analyzed data derived from the whole-genome sequencing of 97 horses, investigated the distribution of genome-wide ROH patterns, and calculated ROH-based inbreeding coefficients for 16 representative horse varieties from around the world. Our findings indicated that both ancient and recent inbreeding occurrences had varying degrees of impact on various horse breeds. However, recent inbreeding events were uncommon, particularly among indigenous horse breeds. Consequently, the ROH-based genomic inbreeding coefficient could aid in monitoring the level of inbreeding. Using the Thoroughbred population as a case study, we discovered 24 ROH islands containing 72 candidate genes associated with artificial selection traits. We found that the candidate genes in Thoroughbreds were involved in neurotransmission (CHRNA6, PRKN, and GRM1), muscle development (ADAMTS15 and QKI), positive regulation of heart rate and heart contraction (HEY2 and TRDN), regulation of insulin secretion (CACNA1S, KCNMB2, and KCNMB3), and spermatogenesis (JAM3, PACRG, and SPATA6L). Our findings provide insight into horse breed characteristics and future breeding strategies.

The relaxor ferroelectric single crystal (1−x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-PT) has high piezoelectric constants, and thus has a good application prospect in the field of highly sensitive piezoelectric sensors. In this paper, for relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT, the bulk acoustic wave characteristics on pure- and pseudo-lateral-field-excitation (pure- and pseudo-LFE) modes are investigated. LFE piezoelectric coupling coefficients and acoustic wave phase velocities for PMN-PT crystals in different cuts and electric field directions are calculated. On this basis, the optimal cuts of pure-LFE and pseudo-LFE modes of relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT are obtained, namely, (zxt)45° and (zxtl)90°/90°, respectively. Finally, finite element simulations are carried out to verify the cuts of pure-LFE and pseudo-LFE modes. The simulation results show that the PMN-PT acoustic wave devices in pure-LFE mode have good energy-trapping effects. For PMN-PT acoustic wave devices in pseudo-LFE mode, when the device is in air, no obvious energy-trapping emerges; when the water (as a virtual electrode) is added to the surface of the crystal plate, an obvious resonance peak and the energy-trapping effect appears. Therefore, the PMN-PT pure-LFE device is suitable for gas-phase detections. While the PMN-PT pseudo-LFE device is suitable for liquid-phase detections. The above results verify the correctness of the cuts of the two modes. The research results provide an important basis for the development of highly sensitive LFE piezoelectric sensors based on relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT.
