The Ni(CO)4, Cr(CO)6, Co(CO)3NO are some of the most common precursors used for the focused electron-induced deposition. Some of the compounds, even though extensively used have high requirements when it comes to handling, being explosives, highly flammable, and with high toxicity levels, as is the case of Ni(CO)4. We are employing simulations to determine values that are hard to determine experimentally, and compare them with DFT calculations and experimental data where available. Using Quantemol-N cross-sections simulations for dissociative electron attachment (DEA) at low electron energy, 0 - 20eV, gives valuable information on the fragmentation of the molecules, using their bond dissociation energies, electron affinities, and incident electron energies. The values obtained for the cross-sections are 0.12x10-18cm2 for Ni(CO)4, 4.5x10-16cm2 for Co(CO)3NO DEA cross-sections and 4.3x10-15cm2for Cr(CO)6., 22 pages, 11 figures

This paper proposes the recycling of plates from spent car batteries by the melt quenching method and the incorporation of NiO or Co3O4 contents in order to improve the electrochemical performance of new materials for applications as electrodes on batteries. The analysis of X - ray diffractograms indicates the gradual decrease of the sulfated crystalline phases, respectively 4PbO•PbSO4 and PbO•PbSO4 phases until their disappearance for higher dopant concentrations. IR data show a decreasing trend in the intensity of the bands assigned to sulfate ions and a conversion of [PbO3] pyramidal units into [PbO4] tetrahedral units by doping with high dopant levels yielding to the formation of the PbO2 crystalline phase. The EPR data indicate three resonance lines centered on the gyromagnetic factor, g ~ 2, 2.2 and 8, which are dependent on the NiO level. The first two resonance lines are assigned to nickel ions in higher oxidation states and the last signal centered at g ~ 8 corresponds to nickel metal nanoparticles. This compositional evolution can be explained by considering a process of drastic reduction of nickel ions in oxidation states superior to metallic nickel. The linewidth and the intensity of resonance lines situated at about g ~ 2, 2.17, 4.22 and 7.8 corresponding to the Co+2 ions from EPR spectra depend very strongly on the Co3O4 concentration. The best reversibility of the cyclic voltammograms was highlighted for the samples with x = 8 mol% NiO and 10 mol% Co3O4, which are recommended as suitable in applications as electrode for renewable batteries.

In this paper, the obtaining and characterization of five experimental models of novel polymer composite materials with ferrite nano-powder are presented. The composites were obtained by mechanically mixing two components and pressing the obtained mixture on a hot plate press. The ferrite powders were obtained by an innovative economic co-precipitation route. The characterization of these composites consisted of physical and thermal properties: hydrostatic density, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and TG DSC thermal analyses, along with functional electromagnetic tests in order to demonstrate the functionality of these materials as electromagnetic shields (magnetic permeability, dielectric characteristics, and shielding effectiveness). The purpose of this work was to obtain a flexible composite material, applicable to any type of architecture for the electrical and automotive industry, necessary for protection against electromagnetic interference. The results demonstrated the efficiency of such materials at lower frequencies, but also in the microwave domain, with higher thermal stability and lifetime.

Aim: The present study analyzed clinical and biological factors that might predict achievement of tolerance in patients with IgE-mediated cow milk allergy (CMA). Method: Seventy patients with IgE-mediated CMA (44.24 ± 24.16 months) were included in the study. The patients were evaluated clinically through skin prick test and sIgE to whole milk, casein, beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. An eviction diet of 6 months was established, followed by oral food challenge test (OFC) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) with baked milk for 6 months. The tolerance was assessed after 2 years follow up. Results: Thirty percent of patients presented anaphylaxis of different degrees of severity as first manifestation of CMA. Sixty-two patients followed OIT or an accelerated reintroduction of milk. Ten patients (14.28%) did not obtain tolerance to milk within 2 years. A larger wheal in SPT and higher sIgE to milk, casein and betalactoglobulin were noted in patients with positive OFC. Objective: To evaluate prognostic factors for a favorable outcome (improvement of the visual acuity or visual fields) after fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (fSRT) of optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM). Methods: We performed a database search for ONSM treatments during the period from April 2008 to September 2019 in the prospective database for stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy (SRS/SRT) of the Robert Janker Clinic Bonn (Department of Radiotherapy) and performed a literature review and meta-analysis of published data on ONSM between 2010 and 2019. Ophthalmic status before and after treatment was evaluated and the collective was dichotomized into two groups: functional improvement (FI, improvement of either visual acuity or visual fields) and non functional improvement (NFI, with stable or deteriorating visual acuity or visual fields). The two groups were compared regarding different variables: pretreatment visual acuity, age, gender, gross tumor volume (GTV), follow up (FU) time, tumor localization, and maximal retina dose. Results: Overall, 13 stereotactic radiotherapies were performed for ONSM (12 × fSRT, 1 × SRS). Mean follow up was 3 years (range: 1–5 years). The total dose was 50.4 Gy (5 × 1.8 Gy/week) in 12 patients treated with fSRT and 1 × 14 Gy in one SRS case. Mean GTV was 1.13 ccm (range: 0.44–2.20 ccm). During follow up, all tumors were stable or showed shrinkage of tumor volume (100% tumor control), no adverse events were observed, 53% of the patients achieved either better visual acuity or visual fields. Pretreatment visual acuity was significantly different between the FI and the NFI group (0.17 vs. 0.63, p = 0.03) in our series and in the meta analysis (p &lt, 0.01). Moreover, shorter FU time and lower retinal dose were significantly linked (p &lt, 0.05 and p &lt, 0.01, respectively) with a better outcome in the meta-analysis but not in our patient cohort. Intracranial tumor localization, gender, and age were not significantly different between the two outcome groups. Conclusion: FSRT for ONSM achieves in over 50% of cases an improvement of the ophthalmic status with low morbidity and excellent tumor control in our series and the meta analysis. Patients with a favorable outcome had in all analysis a significantly higher visual acuity before treatment start. Therefore, we advocate using fSRT as early as possible before vision deterioration occurs.

Rural tourism, defined as a form of local initiative tourism, has at its forefront the involvement of the local community, who contribute significantly to the affirmation and promotion of this type of tourism. In order to be able to speak of the practice of this type of tourism in a given geographical area, it is first necessary to highlight the existence of a tourist heritage, both natural and anthropic, which identifies itself with the authentic character of the area, satisfying the need of the tourist to discover activities and tourist attractions with local specificity. The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of socio-economic and cultural aspects in the sustainable development of tourism in the Gurghiului Valley. The present study also aims to highlight the role of local entrepreneurs in the process of economic development in the area by means of new practices and sustainable approaches; this is based on efficient capitalization of the natural and anthropic tourism heritage of the area, defined by elements of authenticity. The methodology applied in this work is based on the study of specialized literature, along with case study on tourist activity in rural tourism. The research carried out is based on analysis of data from official sources of tourist data (the National Tourism Agency (hereafter NTA) and the National Institute of Statistics (hereafter NIS)), as well as research carried out in the field to see if there are discrepancies between what these two aforementioned official sources provide and the reality on the ground. Our research finally revealed the fact that Gurghiului Valley officially entered into the tourist landscape in 1990 through the lens of the Lăpușna student and preschool camp, and rural tourism has been organized in the study area since 2005. At the same time, research has shown that there is currently a need for much greater involvement and awareness both from local authorities and the resident population regarding the importance of rural tourism in the social and economic evolution of the local community.

Benralizumab is a humanized recombinant mAb that binds to the interleukin 5 receptor (IL-5R) expressed on eosinophils and is approved for the treatment of severe eosinophilic asthma. There are a series of severe eosinophilic disorders that may benefit from this treatment, and it could be a life-saving therapy. In this paper, we present two severe patients with eosinophil-induced diseases that had a good resolution after one dose of Benralizumab 30 mg. The first case is a severe non-necrotizing eosinophilic vasculitis following critical COVID-19 disease and the second case is a DRESS (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms Syndrome) due to allopurinol. Conclusions: The successful administration of Benralizumab in rare or severe eosinophilic disease could be an option for life-saving therapies when conventional treatments fail.

(1) Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the exacerbation of various chronic diseases. Due to the potential impact of SARS-CoV-2 on mast cells, we aimed to analyze the relevance of COVID-19 disease on chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) clinical presentation and biological profile. (2) Methods: This study is a retrospective case series of patients with CSU diagnosed and treated in the Allergy Department of the Professor Doctor Octavian Fodor RIGH, (Cluj-Napoca, Romania). Patients were assessed for disease activity and level of control with the weekly urticaria activity score and the visual analogue scale. Results were correlated with COVID-19 severity and with nonspecific markers of inflammation during and after the SARS-CoV-2 infection. (3) Results: SARS-CoV-2 impacted a significant proportion (33%) of the CSU patients, of which 71% developed a moderate-severe form of COVID-19. Most of the patients (68%) had moderate-severe forms of CSU and 65% took AH1 treatment (one dose, two-fold dose or four-fold dose). The rest of them (35%) received the second-line treatment (40.3% Omalizumab, 53% Prednisolone and 4.8% Cyclosporine). In Omalizumab treated group of UCS patients we observed that COVID-19 disease was not severe. We established a positive correlation between the severity of the infection and that of the CSU clinical presentation, with most bothersome symptoms of urticaria being experienced by moderate to severe COVID-19 CSU patients (47%). Inflammatory markers were positively correlated (p = 0.01) with a more severe clinical profile of CSU, in accordance with our hypothesis that the level of inflammation triggered by COVID-19 disease has a role in CSU exacerbation. The non-specific inflammatory markers, such as CRP, were positively associated with the UAS7 score (R2 = 0.363, p = 0.001). An increased rate of exacerbation of CSU was observed in moderate-severe COVID-19 infection. 4) Conclusions: COVID-19 disease can result in the exacerbation of chronic spontaneous urticaria, more likely in moderate to severe forms of infection.

The concern for implementing bioactive nutraceuticals in antioxidant-related therapies is of great importance for skin homeostasis in benign or malignant diseases. In order to elucidate some novel insights of Lycium barbarum (Goji berry) activity on skin cells, the present study focused on its active compound zeaxanthin. By targeting the stemness markers CD44 and CD105, with deep implications in skin oxidative stress mechanisms, we revealed, for the first time, selectivity in zeaxanthin activity. When applied in vitro on BJ human fibroblast cell line versus the A375 malignant melanoma cells, despite the moderate cytotoxicity, the zeaxanthin-rich extracts 1 and 2 were able to downregulate significantly the CD44 and CD105 membrane expression and extracellular secretion in A375, and to upregulate them in BJ cells. At mechanistic level, the present study is the first to demonstrate that the zeaxanthin-rich Goji extracts are able to influence selectively the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK): ERK, JNK and p38 in normal BJ versus tumor-derived A375 skin cells. These results point out towards the applications of zeaxanthin from L. barbarum as a cytoprotective agent in normal skin and raises questions about its use as an antitumor prodrug alone or in combination with standard therapy.

Attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared ppectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) proved to be a reliable, rapid, and easy-to-use technique to evaluate vegetable oils quality and authenticity. The spectral range of the middle infrared region (MIR) of FTIR spectra, from 4000 to 600 cm&minus, 1, has been commonly used to fingerprint specific functional groups of lipids and their modified forms induced by oxidation of thermal treatment. The applicability of FTIR-MIR spectroscopy in assessing oil fingerprinting and quality parameters is crucially dependent on the chemometric methods, including calibrations with authentic samples. We report here the evaluation of seven types of cold-pressed functional oils (sunflower, pumpkin, hempseed, soybean, walnut, linseed, sea buckthorn) produced in Romania, provided directly from small enterprises (as genuine, process-controlled authentic samples) comparative to commercialized samples. Concomitantly, olive oils of similar claimed quality were investigated. The ATR-FTIR-MIR data were complemented by UV&ndash, Vis spectral fingerprints and multivariate analysis using Unscrambler X.10.4 and Metaboanalyst 4.0 software (e.g., PCA, PLSDA, cluster analysis, heatmap, Random forest analysis) and ANOVA post-hoc analysis using Fischer&rsquo, s least significant difference. The integration of spectral and chemometric analysis proved to offer valuable criteria for their botanical group recognition, individual authenticity, and quality, easy to be applied for large cohorts of commercialized oils.

As it exhibits no provitamin A activity, the dietary intake of zeaxanthin is not considered essential. However, its contribution to ocular health has long been acknowledged. Numerous publications emphasize the importance of zeaxanthin alongside lutein in ocular diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration which constitute an important health concern, especially among the elderly. Considering that the average dietary ratio of lutein to zeaxanthin favors the first, more bioaccessible food sources of zeaxanthin that can hinder the development and progression of the above-mentioned disorders are of great interest. In this paper, a brief overview of the more recent state of knowledge as regards dietary sources together with their respective zeaxanthin bioaccessibility assessed through a standardized in vitro digestion method was provided.
