Transformers have recently gained significant attention in low-level vision tasks, particularly for remote sensing image super-resolution (RSISR). The vanilla vision transformer aims to establish long-range dependencies between image patches. However, its global receptive field leads to a quadratic increase in computational complexity with respect to spatial size, rendering it inefficient for addressing RSISR tasks that involve processing large-sized images. In an effort to mitigate computational costs, recent studies have explored the utilization of local attention mechanisms, inspired by convolutional neural networks (CNNs), focusing on interactions between patches within small windows. Nevertheless, these approaches are naturally influenced by smaller participating receptive fields, and the utilization of fixed window sizes hinders their ability to perceive multi-scale information, consequently limiting model performance. To address these challenges, we propose a hierarchical transformer model named the Multi-Scale and Global Representation Enhancement-based Transformer (MSGFormer). We propose an efficient attention mechanism, Dual Window-based Self-Attention (DWSA), combining distributed and concentrated attention to balance computational complexity and the receptive field range. Additionally, we incorporated the Multi-scale Depth-wise Convolution Attention (MDCA) module, which is effective in capturing multi-scale features through multi-branch convolution. Furthermore, we developed a new Tracing-Back Structure (TBS), offering tracing-back mechanisms for both proposed attention modules to enhance their feature representation capability. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MSGFormer outperforms state-of-the-art methods on multiple public RSISR datasets by up to 0.11–0.55 dB.

Space radiation particle detection plays a crucial role in scientific research and engineering practice, especially in particle species identification. Currently, commonly used in-orbit particle identification techniques include telescope methods, electrostatic analysis time of flight (ESA × TOF), time-of-flight energy (TOF × E), and pulse shape discrimination (PSD). However, these methods usually fail to utilize the full waveform information containing rich features, and their particle identification results may be affected by the random rise and fall of particle deposition and noise interference. In this study, a low-latency and lightweight onboard FPGA real-time particle identification platform based on full waveform information was developed utilizing the superior target classification, robustness, and generalization capabilities of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The platform constructs diversified input datasets based on the physical features of waveforms and uses Optuna and Pytorch software architectures for model training. The hardware platform is responsible for the real-time inference of waveform data and the dynamic expansion of the dataset. The platform was utilized for deep learning training and the testing of the historical waveform data of neutron and gamma rays, and the inference time of a single waveform takes 4.9 microseconds, with an accuracy rate of over 97%. The classification expectation FOM (figure-of-merit) value of this CNN model is 133, which is better than the traditional pulse shape discrimination (PSD) algorithm’s FOM value of 0.8. The development of this platform not only improves the accuracy and efficiency of space particle discrimination but also provides an advanced tool for future space environment monitoring, which is of great value for engineering applications.

Cellulose aerogels are considered as ideal thermal insulation materials owing to their excellent properties such as a low density, high porosity, and low thermal conductivity. However, they still suffer from poor mechanical properties and low flame retardancy. In this study, mullite-fibers-reinforced bagasse cellulose (Mubce) aerogels are designed using bagasse cellulose as the raw material, mullite fibers as the reinforcing agent, glutaraldehyde as the cross-linking agent, and chitosan as the additive. The resulted Mubce aerogels exhibit a low density of 0.085 g/cm3, a high porosity of 93.2%, a low thermal conductivity of 0.0276 W/(m∙K), superior mechanical performances, and an enhanced flame retardancy. The present work offers a novel and straightforward strategy for creating high-performance aerogels, aiming to broaden the application of cellulose aerogels in thermal insulation.

In the present work, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were synthesized in a one-step process by heating the hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) tetrabutylammonium bromide and tetrabutylphosphonium bromide, along with two hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) ethanolamine and N-methyldiethanolamine, which were mixed in certain molar ratios. This mixture was then mixed with water to form a DES + water system. The densities of the prepared DES + water systems were successfully measured using the U-tube oscillation method under atmospheric pressure over a temperature range of 293.15–363.15 K. The CO2 trapping capacity of the DES + water systems was investigated using the isovolumetric saturation technique at pressures ranging from 0.1 MPa to 1 MPa and temperatures ranging from 303.15 K to 323.15 K. A semi-empirical model was employed to fit the experimental CO2 solubility data, and the deviations between the experimental and fitted values were calculated. At a temperature of 303.15 K and a pressure of 100 kPa, the CO2 solubilities in the DES + water systems of TBAB and MEA, with molar ratios of 1:8, 1:9, and 1:10, were measured to be 0.1430 g/g, 0.1479 g/g, and 0.1540 g/g, respectively. Finally, it was concluded that the DES + water systems had a superior CO2 capture capacity compared to the 30% aqueous monoethanolamine solution commonly used in industry, indicating the potential of DES + water systems for CO2 capture.

Although the maximum carboxylation rate (Vcmax) is an important parameter to calculate the photosynthesis rate for the terrestrial biosphere models (TBMs), current models could not satisfactorily estimate the Vcmax of a crop because the Vcmax is always changing during crop growth period. In this study, the Breathing Earth System Simulator (BESS) and light response curve (LRC) were combined to invert the time-continuous Vm25 (Vcmax normalized to 25 °C) using eddy covariance measurements and remote sensing data in five maize sites. Based on the inversion results, we propose a Two-stage linear model using leaf age to estimate crop Vm25. The leaf age can be readily calculated from the date of emergence, which is usually recorded or can be readily calculated from the leaf area index (LAI), which can be readily obtained from high spatiotemporal resolution remote sensing images. The Vm25 used to calibrate and validate our model was inversely solved by combining the BESS and LRC and using eddy covariance measurements and remote sensing data in five maize sites. Our Two-stage linear model (R2 = 0.71–0.88, RMSE = 5.40–7.54 μmol m−2 s−1) performed better than the original BESS (R2 = 0.01–0.67, RMSE = 13.25–18.93 μmol m−2 s−1) at capturing the seasonal variation in the Vm25 of all of the five maize sites. Our Two-stage linear model can also significantly improve the accuracy of maize gross primary productivity (GPP) at all of the five sites. The GPP estimated using our Two-stage linear model (underestimated by 0.85% on average) is significantly better than that estimated by the original BESS model (underestimated by 12.60% on average). Overall, our main contributions are as follows: (1) by using the BESS model instead of the BEPS model coupled with the LRC, the inversion of Vm25 took into account the photosynthesis process of C4 plants; (2) the maximum value of Vm25 (i.e., PeakVm25) during the growth and development of maize was calibrated; and (3) by using leaf age as a predictor of Vm25, we proposed a Two-stage linear model to calculate Vm25, which improved the estimation accuracy of GPP.

Unlike uniform linear arrays (ULAs), coprime arrays require fewer physical sensors yet provide higher degrees of freedom (DOF) and larger array apertures. However, due to the existence of “holes” in the differential co-array, the target detection performance deteriorates, especially in adaptive beamforming. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an efficient and robust adaptive beamforming algorithm leveraging coprime array interpolation. The algorithm eliminates unwanted signals and uses the Gauss–Legendre quadrature method to reconstruct an Interference-plus-Noise Covariance Matrix (INCM), thereby obtaining the beamforming coefficients. Unlike previous techniques, we utilize a virtual interpolated ULA to expand the aperture, enabling the acquisition of a high-dimensional covariance matrix. Additionally, a projection matrix is constructed to eliminate unwanted signals from the received data, greatly enhancing the accuracy of INCM reconstruction. To address the high computational complexity of integral operations used in most INCM reconstruction algorithms, we propose an approximation based on the Gauss–Legendre quadrature, which reduces the computational load while maintaining accuracy. This algorithm avoids the array aperture loss caused by using only the ULA segment in the difference co-array and improves the accuracy of INCM reconstruction. Simulation and experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is superior to the compared beamformers and is closer to the optimal beamformer in various scenarios.

Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG)-based optical fiber is one of the research hotspots in the field of fiber lasers due to its combined advantages of a wide doping range of rare earth ions and the high mechanical strength of YAG material, as well as the flexibility and small size of the fiber structure. YAG-based optical fibers and related laser devices can be used in communication, sensing, medicine, etc. A comprehensive review of YAG-based optical fibers is provided in this paper. Firstly, the fabrication processes of YAG-based optical fibers are summarized and the structure and properties of fibers are classified and compared. Secondly, according to the optical wavelength regions, rare earth-doped YAG-based optical fibers for the applications of single-frequency and mode-locked fiber lasers are summarized. Lastly, the development challenges in both the fabrication and applications of YAG-based optical fibers are discussed.

Maize is an important food and feed crop. Under limited arable land area, the cultivation of high-density-tolerance crops is a key factor in promoting yield improvement. Leaf width and stalk strength are important influences on density tolerance in maize. However, no comprehensive transcriptomic analysis has focused on maize’s leaf width and stalk strength formation mechanisms. In this study, comparative transcriptomic analyses demonstrated that significant transcriptome changes occurred regarding leaf width and stalk strength of narrow-leaved and wide-leaved maize inbred lines, with a total of 5001 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) identified. Enrichment analysis showed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, phytohormone signaling, amino acid metabolism, and brassinosteroid biosynthesis were significantly correlated with the formation of maize leaf shape and stalk strength and that the genes in these pathways were primarily involved in cell wall formation. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis identified 2 modules significantly correlated with leaf width and stalk strength, from which 11 hub genes were further identified. The 11 leaf and stem development genes in different pathways were validated using qRT-PCR. These findings can provide a theoretical basis for the mechanism of narrow-leaf and high-strength stalk formation in high-density-tolerance maize and contribute to the proposal of a breeding strategy for yield improvement.

Microglia, as resident macrophages in the central nervous system, play a multifunctional role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Their clustering around amyloid-β (Aβ) deposits is a core pathological feature of AD. Recent advances in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) have revealed dynamic changes in microglial phenotypes over time and across different brain regions during aging and AD progression. As AD advances, microglia primarily exhibit impaired phagocytosis of Aβ and tau, along with the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines that damage synapses and neurons. Targeting microglia has emerged as a potential therapeutic approach for AD. Treatment strategies involving microglia can be broadly categorized into two aspects: (1) enhancing microglial function: This involves augmenting their phagocytic ability against Aβ and cellular debris and (2) mitigating neuroinflammation: Strategies include inhibiting TNF-α signaling to reduce the neuroinflammatory response triggered by microglia. Clinical trials exploring microglia-related approaches for AD treatment have garnered attention. Additionally, natural products show promise in enhancing beneficial effects and suppressing inflammatory responses. Clarifying microglial dynamics, understanding their roles, and exploring novel therapeutic approaches will advance our fight against AD.

The complete mitochondrial genomes of two Iphiclides species, namely I. podalirius and I. podalirinus, were sequenced, assembled, and reported in this article. Both genomes comprise 37 genes, with 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The gene orders and alignments agree with the reported mitogenomes of Leptocircini butterflies, while the start codon for the COX1 gene in I. podalirinus is CGA instead of the commonly seen ATN type. Codon preference shows that methionine and tryptophan are the poorest, while arginine, leucine, and serine are the richest. Phylogenetic analysis using Bayesian Inference shows both Iphiclides species are sister to the genus Lamproptera and are basal to all remaining Leptocircini species. The Kimura 2-parameter (K2P) distances of I. podalirinus from I. podalirius exceed 5%, demonstrating its solid species status. The K2P distance between the North African feisthamelii and podalirius exceeds 2%, indicating the reasonable elevation of I. feisthamelii to the full specific level as its type locality is Algeria. Future research is required to tackle the relationship between the Iberian feisthamelii and podalirius using more evidence.

Miniaturized underwater profilers have the advantages of small size, low cost, and flexible deployment, which play together an important role in the persistent monitoring of a designated ocean area. Based on the demand for ocean observation, the system design, dynamic modeling, and dead reckoning algorithm of a miniaturized underwater profiler are carried out. The process of the persistent monitoring of designated area with a miniaturized underwater profiler is analyzed, and the overall structure of the miniaturized underwater profiler was designed. Additionally, the kinematic and dynamic model of the miniaturized underwater profiler is given based on the inertial and body coordinate systems. Then, according to the state equation and the observation equation of the miniaturized underwater profiler, a dual-mode square root cubature Kalman filter (DSRCKF) algorithm, combining standard SRCKF and adaptive SRCKF, is proposed for the dead reckoning of the miniaturized underwater profiler. Finally, a comprehensive comparison of EKF, UKF, CKF, SRCKF, and DSRCKF and the associated simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the performance of the underwater dead reckoning algorithm for the miniaturized underwater profiler. The results show that the DSRCKF algorithm has a certain role in the dead reckoning of the miniaturized underwater profiler, particularly in the z direction and attitude. In future, a real underwater dead reckoning test using miniaturized underwater profiler will be carried out.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of arginine (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5% arginine supplementation levels were selected) on the ovarian development of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). The analyzed arginine supplementation levels in each diet were 2.90%, 3.58%, 4.08%, 4.53%, 5.04%, and 5.55%, respectively. A total of 540 shrimp (an initial weight of approximately 14 g) with good vitality were randomly distributed into six treatments, each of which had three tanks (300 L in volume filled with 200 L of water), with 30 shrimp per duplicate. Shrimp were fed three times a day (6:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.). The results showed that after the 12-week raring cycle, shrimp fed with 4.08% and 4.53% Arg achieved better ovary development, which was identified by ovarian stage statistics, ovarian morphology observation, serum hormone levels (methylfarneside (MF); 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT); estradiol (E2); and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)), gene expression (DNA meiotic recombinase 1 (dmc1), proliferating cell nuclear antigen (pcna), drosophila steroid hormone 1 (cyp18a), retinoid X receptor (rxra), and ecdysone receptor (ecr)). Further in-depth analysis showed that 4.08% and 4.53% Arg supplementation increased the concentration of vitellogenin in hepatopancreas and serum (p < 0.05) and upregulated the expression level of hepatopancreatic vg and vgr (p < 0.05), which promoted the synthesis of hepatopancreas exogenous vitellogenin and then transported it into the ovary through the vitellogenin receptor and further promoted ovarian maturation in L. vannamei. Meanwhile, compared with the control group, the expression level of vg in the ovary of the 4.53% Arg group was significantly upregulated (p < 0.05), which indicated endogenous vitellogenin synthesis in ovarian maturation in L. vannamei. Moreover, the expression of genes related to the mechanistic target of the rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) pathway and protein levels was regulated by dietary arginine supplementation levels. Arginine metabolism-related products, including nitric oxide synthase (NOS), nitric oxide (NO), and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), were also affected. RNA interference was applied here to study the molecular regulation mechanism of arginine on ovarian development in L. vannamei. A green fluorescent protein (GFP)-derived double-stranded RNA (dsGFP) is currently commonly used as a control, while TOR-derived dsRNA (dsTOR) and NOS-derived dsRNA (dsNOS) were designed to build the TOR and NOS in vivo knockdown model. The results showed that the mTORC1 and NO-sGC-cGMP pathways were inhibited, while the vitellogenin receptor and vitellogenin gene expression levels were downregulated significantly in the hepatopancreas and ovary. Overall, dietary arginine supplementation could enhance endogenous and exogenous vitellogenin synthesis to promote ovary development in L. vannamei, and the appropriate dosages were 4.08% and 4.53%. The NO-sGC-cGMP and mTORC1 signaling pathways mediated arginine in the regulation of ovary development in L. vannamei.

This paper proposes a new type of cogeneration system coupled by Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), Absorption Heat Pump (AHP), and Compression Heat Pump (CHP). The new system can meet the needs of different scenarios. Simulations were conducted to analyze the effect of different factors on the parameters and performance indexes of the new system and compared with the system of ORC, AHP, CHP. The results showed that the factors of flue gas temperature at evaporator1 outlet and CHP have the greatest effect on the parameters and performance indexes of the Organic Absorption-Compression Coupling Heat Power (OACCHP) system, and the effect of AHP on the parameters and performance indexes of the OACCHP system can be ignored. In the given range of flue gas temperature at evaporator1 outlet, the heat production of total and net work is reduced by 1.17% and 33.33%, respectively. In a given range of CHP evaporation temperature, the heat production of the total is reduced by 5.74%. In the given range of the outlet temperature of the gas cooler, the heat production of the total is increased by 10.58%. In a given working condition, compared with the single ORC system, the single CHP system, and the single AHP system, the thermal efficiency, COP, and energy earning rate of the OACCHP system are increased by up to 755.49%, 59.8%, 5.8%, respectively. Finally, the optimal operating conditions for different scenarios were determined.

Lithium metal has been treated as one of the most promising anode materials for next-generation rechargeable batteries due to its extremely high theoretical capacity. However, its practical application is hindered by inhomogeneous lithium deposition and uncontrolled dendrite growth. In this work, we prepared a three-dimensional nickel foam (NF)-based current collector with a lithiophilic interface layer through facile hydrothermal and coating methods. The lithiophilic Ni3S2 array synthesized via a hydrothermal method has been demonstrated to facilitate the nucleation of Li+. Moreover, it has been observed that the outer coating comprising LPP effectively enhances the inward diffusion of Li+. Additionally, this interface layer can serve as an isolating barrier between the electrodes and the electrolyte. The prepared LPP-Ni3S2@Ni shows significant reversibility both in symmetric cells (1200 h, 1 mA cm−2) and half-cells (CE: 99.60%, 500 cycles, 1 mA cm−2) with low interfacial resistance (35 Ω). Full cells with LiFePO4 as a cathode also exhibit promising electrochemical performance with over 76.78% capacity retention over 200 cycles at 1 C.

By utilizing the Kosambi–Cartan–Chern (KCC) geometric theory, this paper is dedicated to providing novel insights into the Liu dynamical system, which stands out as one of the most distinctive and noteworthy nonlinear dynamical systems. Firstly, five important geometrical invariants of the system are obtained by associating the nonlinear connection with the Berwald connection. Secondly, in terms of the eigenvalues of the deviation curvature tensor, the Jacobi stability of the Liu dynamical system at fixed points is investigated, which indicates that three fixed points are Jacobi unstable. The Jacobi stability of the system is analyzed and compared with that of Lyapunov stability. Lastly, the dynamical behavior of components of the deviation vector is studied, which serves to geometrically delineate the chaotic behavior of the system near the origin. The onset of chaos for the Liu dynamical system is obtained. This work provides an analysis of the Jacobi stability of the Liu dynamical system, serving as a useful reference for future chaotic system research.

Pulsed lasers alter the optical properties of semiconductors and affect the photoelectric function of the photodetectors significantly, resulting in transient changes known as bleaching. Bleaching has a profound impact on the control and interference of photodetector applications. Experiments using pump–probe techniques have made significant contributions to understanding ultrafast carrier dynamics. However, there are few theoretical studies to the best of our knowledge. Here, carrier dynamic models for semiconductors and photodetectors are established, respectively, employing the rectified carrier drift-diffusion model. The pulsed laser bleaching effect on seven types of semiconductors and photodetectors from visible to long-wave infrared is demonstrated. Additionally, a continuous bleaching method is provided, and the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to solve carrier dynamic theory models. Laser parameters for continuous bleaching of semiconductors and photodetectors are calculated. The proposed bleaching model and achieved laser parameters for continuous bleaching are essential for several applications using semiconductor devices, such as infrared detection, biological imaging, and sensing.

As a low-calorie sugar, D-allulose is produced from D-fructose catalyzed by D-allulose 3-epimerase (DAE). Here, to improve the catalytic activity, stability, and processability of DAE, we reported a novel method by forming organic–inorganic hybrid nanoflowers (NF-DAEs) and co-immobilizing them on resins to form composites (Re-NF-DAEs). NF-DAEs were prepared by combining DAE with metal ions (Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Ca2+, Ni2+, Fe2+, and Fe3+) in PBS buffer, and were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. All of the NF-DAEs showed higher catalytic activities than free DAE, and the NF-DAE with Ni2+ (NF-DAE-Ni) reached the highest relative activity of 218%. The NF-DAEs improved the thermal stability of DAE, and the longest half-life reached 228 min for NF-DAE-Co compared with 105 min for the free DAE at 55 °C. To further improve the recycling performance of the NF-DAEs in practical applications, we combined resins and NF-DAEs to form Re-NF-DAEs. Resins and NF-DAEs co-effected the performance of the composites, and ReA (LXTE-606 neutral hydrophobic epoxy-based polypropylene macroreticular resins)-based composites (ReA-NF-DAEs) exhibited outstanding relative activities, thermal stabilities, storage stabilities, and processabilities. The ReA-NF-DAEs were able to be reused to catalyze the conversion from D-fructose to D-allulose, and kept more than 60% of their activities after eight cycles.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) is crucial in tumor development, metastasis, and response to immunotherapy. DNA methylation can regulate the TME without altering the DNA sequence. However, research on the methylation-driven TME in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is still lacking. In this study, integrated DNA methylation and RNA-seq data were used to explore methylation-driven genes (MDGs). Immune scores were calculated using the ESTIMATE, which was employed to identify TME-related genes. A new signature connected with methylation-regulated TME using univariate, multivariate Cox regression and LASSO regression analyses was developed. This signature consists of four TME-MDGs, including AJAP1, HOXB9, MYH14, and SLC6A19, which exhibit high methylation and low expression in tumors. Validation was performed using qRT-PCR which confirmed their downregulation in ccRCC clinical samples. Additionally, the signature demonstrated stable predictive performance in different subtypes of ccRCC. Risk scores are positively correlated with TMN stages, immune cell infiltration, tumor mutation burden, and adverse outcomes of immunotherapy. Interestingly, the expression of four TME-MDGs are highly correlated with the sensitivity of first-line drugs in ccRCC treatment, especially pazopanib. Molecular docking indicates a high affinity binding between the proteins and pazopanib. In summary, our study elucidates the comprehensive role of methylation-driven TME in ccRCC, aiding in identifying patients sensitive to immunotherapy and targeted therapy, and providing new therapeutic targets for ccRCC treatment.

The contents of soil available phosphorus (AVP) and potassium (AVK) in karstic mountainous agricultural areas have changed rapidly in recent decades. This temporal variation displays strong spatial heterogeneity due to these areas’ complex topography and anthropogenic activities. Socio-geographical factors can reflect the changes in the natural environment caused by human beings, and our objective is to enhance understanding of their role in explaining the changes of AVP and AVK. In a typical karst region (611.5 km2) with uniform soil parent material and low climatic variability, 255 topsoil samples (138 in 2012 and 117 in 2021) were collected to quantify the temporal AVP and AVK changes. Random forest (RF) and partial dependence plot analyses were conducted to investigate the responses of these changes to socio-geographical factors (distance from the nearest town center [DFT] and village density [VD]), topography, biology, and landscape pattern indexes. The mean values of AVP (48.25 mg kg−1) and AVK (357.67 mg kg−1) in 2021 were significantly (p < 0.01) higher than those in 2012 (28.84 mg kg−1 and 131.67 mg kg−1, respectively). Semi-variance analysis showed strong spatial autocorrelation for AVP and AVK, ranging from 7.29% to 10.95% and 13.31% to 10.33% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. Adding socio-geographical factors can greatly improve the explanatory power of RF modeling for AVP and AVK changes by 19% and 27%, respectively. DFT and VD emerged as the two most important variables affecting these changes, followed by elevation. These three variables all demonstrated clear nonlinear threshold effects on AVP and AVK changes. A strong accumulation of AVP and AVK was observed at DFT < 5 km and VD > 20. The AVP changes increased dramatically when the elevation ranged between 1298 m and 1390 m, while the AVK changes decreased rapidly when the elevation ranged between 1350 m and 1466 m. The interaction effects of DFT and VD with elevation on these changes were also demonstrated. Overall, this study examined the important role of socio-geographical factors and their nonlinear threshold and interaction effects on AVP and AVK changes. The findings help unravel the complex causes of these changes and thus contribute to the design of optimal soil phosphorus and potassium management strategies.

The complex air environment makes it urgent to build good and safe indoor environments, and the study and application of new materials have become the focus of current research. In this study, we tested and analyzed the structural parameters and filtration performances of the four most commonly used new filter materials in the current market. The results showed that all four new filter materials showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing their filtration efficiency with an increase in filtration velocity. The filtration efficiency of the materials was as follows: PTFE > glass fiber > nanomaterial > electret. The filtration efficiency of all materials reached its maximum when the filtration velocity was 0.2 m/s. The filtration efficiency of the PTFE for PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0 was higher than that of the other three materials, with values of 0.87% to 24.93%, 1.21% to 18.69%, and 0.56% to 16.03%, respectively. PTFE was more effective in capturing particles smaller than 1.0 μm. Within the testing velocity range, the resistance of the filter materials was as follows: glass fiber > PTFE > electret > nanomaterial, and the resistance of the four materials showed a good fitting effect. It is also necessary to match the resistance with the filtration efficiency during use, as well as to study the effectiveness of filter materials in blocking microorganisms and absorbing toxic gases. Overall, PTFE showed the best comprehensive performance, as well as providing data support for the selection of related materials or the synthesis and research of filter materials in the future.

Background: The metabolic-status-related mechanisms underlying the deterioration of the lung function in obese asthma have not been completely elucidated. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the basal metabolic rate (BMR) in patients with obese asthma, its association with the lung function, and its mediating role in the impact of obesity on the lung function. Methods: A 12-month prospective cohort study (n = 598) was conducted in a real-world setting, comparing clinical, body composition, BMR, and lung function data between patients with obese (n = 282) and non-obese (n = 316) asthma. Path model mediation analyses for the BMR and skeletal muscle mass (SMM) were conducted. We also explored the effects of the BMR on the long-term lung function in patients with asthma. Results: Patients with obese asthma exhibited greater airway obstruction, with lower FEV1 (1.99 vs. 2.29 L), FVC (3.02 vs. 3.33 L), and FEV1/FVC (65.5 vs. 68.2%) values compared to patients with non-obese asthma. The patients with obese asthma also had higher BMRs (1284.27 vs. 1210.08 kcal/d) and SMM (23.53 vs. 22.10 kg). Both the BMR and SMM mediated the relationship between obesity and the lung function spirometers (FEV1, %FEV1, FVC, %FVC, and FEV1/FVC). A higher BMR or SMM was associated with better long-term lung function. Conclusions: Our study highlights the significance of the BMR and SMM in mediating the relationship between obesity and spirometry in patients with asthma, and in determining the long-term lung function. Interventions for obese asthma should focus not only on reducing adiposity but also on maintaining a high BMR.

The effects of inoculating lactic acid bacteria (LAB), specifically Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Latilactobacillus sakei, Latilactobacillus curvatus, and Weissella hellenica on the flavor, texture, and color formation of dry sausages in which NaCl was partially substituted by 40% KCl, were explored in this study. It was found that LAB inoculation increased the presence of ketones, alcohols, acids, esters, and terpenes. It also reduced the pH, moisture, protein, and fat content, improving the b*-value, flavor, and texture of the sausages. Notably, L. sakei inoculation showed the most significant improvement in dry sausages with NaCl substitutes, especially on the reduction of bitterness. Meanwhile, there was a close positive correlation between the LAB count with the alcohols and esters formation of dry sausage with NaCl substitution (p < 0.05). These findings offer insight into improving the product characteristics of dry sausages using NaCl substitutes.

Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are anticipated to meet the demand for high energy density, but the growth of lithium dendrites seriously hinders its practical application. Herein, we constructed a kind of composite separator (ZIF-90@PP) consisting of zeolite imidazole framework-90 (ZIF-90) and polypropylene (PP) to promote the uniform deposition of Li+ and inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites. The aldehyde groups interacting with TFSI− and the nitrogen-containing negative groups attracting Li+ of ZIF-90 can facilitate the dissociation of LiTFSI to release more Li+, thus alleviating the influence of space charge near the electrode surface and accelerating the transfer of Li+. Not only does the excellent electrolyte wettability of ZIF-90 enhance the electrolyte retention capacity of the separator, but the orderly nano-channels in ZIF-90 also restrict the free migration of anions and homogenize the distribution of Li+. Consequently, the functional separator achieves a long-term stable Li plating/stripping cycling for over 780 h at 2 mA cm−2. Moreover, an impressive average coulombic efficiency of 98.67% at 0.5 C after 300 cycles is realized by Li || LFP full cells based on ZIF-90@PP with a capacity retention rate of 71.22%. The high-rate and long cycling performance of the modified Li || LFP cells further demonstrates the advantages of the ZIF-90@PP composite separator.

Hemorrhoid disease is a common anorectal disorder affecting populations worldwide, with high prevalence, treatment difficulties, and considerable treatment costs. Compared to other treatment options, medical therapy for hemorrhoids offers minimal harm, more dignity to patients, and is more economical. Unfortunately, there are few chemical hemorrhoid medications available clinically, which makes the search for efficacious, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly new medication classes a focal point of research. In this context, searching for available natural products to improve hemorrhoids exhibits tremendous potential. These products are derived from nature, predominantly from plants, with a minor portion coming from animals, fungi, and algae. They have excellent coagulation pathway regulation, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and tissue regeneration activities. Therefore, we take the view that they are a class of potential hemorrhoid drugs, prevention products, and medication add-on ingredients. This article first reviews the factors contributing to the development of hemorrhoids, types, primary symptoms, and the mechanisms of natural products for hemorrhoids. Building on this foundation, we screened natural products with potential hemorrhoid improvement activity, including polyphenols and flavonoids, terpenes, polysaccharides, and other types.

As a heavily glaciated region, the Eastern Pamir plays a crucial role in regional water supply. However, considerable ambiguity surrounds the distribution of glacier ice thickness and the details of ice volume. Accurate data at the local scale are largely insufficient. In this study, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) was applied to assess the ice thickness at Muztagh Glacier No.16 (MG16) in Muztagh Ata, Eastern Pamir, for the first time, detailing findings from four distinct profiles, bridging the gap in regional measurements. We utilized a total of five different methods based on basic shear stress, surface velocity, and mass conservation, aimed at accurately delineating the ice volume and distribution for MG16. Verification was conducted using measured data, and an aggregated model outcome provided a unified view of ice distribution. The different models showed good agreement with the measurements, but there were differences in the unmeasured areas. The composite findings indicated the maximum ice thickness of MG16 stands at 115.87 ± 4.55 m, with an ice volume calculated at 0.27 ± 0.04 km3. This result is relatively low compared to the findings of other studies, which lies in the fact that the GPR measurements somewhat constrain the model. However, the model parameters remain the primary source of uncertainty. The results from this study can be used to enhance water resource assessments for future glacier change models.

The unknown relative motions between synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and a ground moving target will lead to serious range cell migration (RCM) and Doppler frequency spread (DFS). The energy of the moving target will defocus, given the effect of the RCM and DFS. The moving target will easily produce Doppler ambiguity, due to the low pulse repetition frequency of radar, and the Doppler ambiguity complicates the corrections of the RCM and DFS. In order to address these issues, an efficient ground moving target focusing method for SAR based on scaled Fourier transform and scaled inverse Fourier transform is presented. Firstly, the operations based on the scaled Fourier transform and scaled inverse Fourier transforms are presented to focus the moving targets in consideration of Doppler ambiguity. Subsequently, in accordance with the detailed analysis of multiple target focusing, the spurious peak related to the cross term is removed. The proposed method can accurately eliminate the DFS and RCM, and the well-focused result of the moving target can be achieved under the complex Doppler ambiguity. Then, the blind speed sidelobe can be further avoided. The presented method has high computational efficiency without the step of parameter search. The simulated and measured SAR data are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed method.

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient with important immunomodulatory properties. As a fat-soluble compound, Vitamin D (and its D3 form) is immiscible with water, which presents challenges to absorption. In an in vitro setting, the current study characterizes novel micellar formulations of Vitamin D3 designed to improve absorption. Techniques used to evaluate and compare the micellar formulations against a non-micellar formula include the following: cryo-SEM to determine morphology; laser diffraction to determine particle size and distribution; zeta potential to determine stability of the particles; solubility assays to determine solubility in water and gastrointestinal media; and Caco-2 cell monolayers to determine intestinal permeability. Results show advantageous features (particle size range in the low micrometres with an average zeta potential of −51.56 ± 2.76 mV), as well as significant improvements in intestinal permeability, in one optimized micellar formula (LipoMicel®). When introduced to Caco-2 cells, LipoMicel’s permeability was significantly better than the control (p < 0.01; ANOVA). Findings of this study suggest that the novel micellar form of Vitamin D3 (LipoMicel) has the potential to promote absorption of Vitamin D3. Thus, it can serve as a promising candidate for follow-up in vivo studies in humans.

Edible fungi have certain photo-sensitivity during the mushroom emergence stage, but there have been few relevant studies on the responses of Ganoderma lucidum to different light irradiation conditions. Ganoderma lucidum were planted in an environmentally controllable mushroom room with different light supply modes that were, respectively, continuous white light (CK), red light (R), green light (G), blue light (B), and intermittent red light (R-), green light (G-), and blue light (B-), with a total light intensity of 15 μmol·m−2·s−1 and a light/dark (L/D) period of 12 h/12 h for each treatment. The interval in intermittent light treatments was 30 min. The optimal light supply mode suitable for the growth of Ganoderma lucidum was explored by analyzing the characteristics, nutritional quality, and extracellular enzyme activity in mushrooms exposed to different light treatments. The results showed that red light (whether in continuous or intermittent supply modes) inhibited the fruiting body differentiation of Ganoderma lucidum, showing delayed differentiation or complete undifferentiation. The highest stipe length and pileus diameter of fruiting bodies were detected under G- treatment, which were, respectively, increased by 71.3% and 3.2% relative to the control. The highest weight of fruiting bodies was detected under G treatment, which was significantly increased by 21.4% compared to the control (p < 0.05). Intermittent light mode seemed to be more conducive to the size development of the fruiting body, while continuous light mode was beneficial for increasing the weight. The highest contents of crude protein and total triterpenes in pileus were detected under G treatment (significantly 14.9% and 28.1% higher than the control, respectively), while that of the crude polysaccharide was detected under G- treatment (significantly 35.7% higher than the control) (p < 0.05). The highest activities of extracellular enzymes such as cellulase, hemicellulase, laccase, lignin peroxidase, and amylase were detected in fruiting bodies subjected to G treatment, which were significantly increased by 11.9%~30.7% in the pileus and 9.5%~44.5% in the stipe. Green light might increase the weight and nutrient accumulation in the pileus of Ganoderma lucidum via up-regulating the extracellular enzyme activities. This study provides an effective light supply strategy for regulating the light environment in the industrial production of Ganoderma lucidum.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination in soil poses a serious threat to ecological safety, human life, and health. Thermal desorption is commonly used to remediate PAH-contaminated soil. Current thermal desorption research primarily focuses on parameters for engineering designs through in-house simulations. In this study, based on a PAH-contaminated site thermal desorption remediation project, the removal efficiency of PAHs in soil (S1, S2) after disposal at different heating temperatures (400, 450, 500, 550 °C) and different residence times (20, 25 min) was investigated, and changes in soil properties before and after disposal were analyzed. The removal rate of 16 PAHs from soil at two concentrations reached 100% after 20 min at 500 °C and 550 °C, respectively. The three-phase structural distances of S1 and S2 soils, respectively, increased by 1.65 and 2.99 times after disposal, sand content increased by 3.20% and 8.27%, water-stable macroaggregates decreased by 8.14% and 2.06%, organic carbon content decreased by 7.27% and 27.05%, heavy fraction organic carbon increased by 33.68% and 5.12%, pH decreased from 10.00 and 10.35 to 8.81 and 8.69, and cation exchange decreased by 13.79% and 26.65%. Soil nutrient content such as TP, AP, TK, and AK increased after thermal desorption, and TN content decreased; approximately 1.0 mg/kg of NO3−-N remained. Our results are expected to support the design of programs for soil reuse after disposal.

In this paper, we study the existence of multiple normalized solutions for a Choquard equation involving fractional p-Laplacian in RN. With the help of variational methods, minimization techniques, and the Lusternik–Schnirelmann category, the existence of multiple normalized solutions is obtained for the above problem.

As a central component for anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs), the anion exchange membrane is now facing the challenge of further improving its conductivity and alkali stability. Herein, a twisted all-carbon backbone is designed by introducing stereo-contorted units with piperidinium groups dangled at the twisted sites. The rigid and twisted backbone improves the conduction of hydroxide and brings down the squeezing effect of the backbone on piperidine rings. Accordingly, an anion exchange membrane prepared through this method exhibits adapted OH− conductivity, low swelling ratio and excellent alkali stability, even in high alkali concentrations. Further, a fuel cell assembled with a such-prepared membrane can reach a power density of 904.2 mW/cm2 and be capable of continuous operation for over 50 h. These results demonstrate that the designed membrane has good potential for applications in AEMFCs.

Processing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into functional materials has both sustainable and economic significance. Therefore, this study aims to prepare functional nanofibers using PET, combining electrospun nanofibers with metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which is an effective solution to increase the added value of functional nanofiltration membranes (NFMs). The surface morphology of PET fibers is successfully controlled by electrospinning parameters and post-treatment. The formation of a uniform coating of CuBTC crystals on the PET surface is induced by a simple and low-cost in situ growth technique. CuBTC@PET was treated to prepare superhydrophobic CuBTC@PET (SCP), thus improving the stability of CuBTC in water and expanding its potential applications. Through a series of optical and thermal characterizations, the porous morphology formation mechanism and MOF in situ growth mechanism of SCP fibers were discussed. Then, the air filtration performance and bacteriostatic properties of SCP nanofiltration membranes were investigated. The as-prepared SCP showed a high water contact angle (146.4°), low-pressure drop (39.7 Pa), and high filtration efficiency (95.3%, 3 μm NaCl), as well as unique, broad-spectrum antibiosis potency against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). This study shows that SCP nanofiltration membranes can be practically applied in high-performance antibacterial filtration membranes.

Numerous research studies have shown that moderate physical exercise exerts positive effects on gastrointestinal tract health and increases the variety and relative number of beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal microbiota. Increasingly, studies have shown that the gut microbiota is critical for energy metabolism, immunological response, oxidative stress, skeletal muscle metabolism, and the regulation of the neuroendocrine system, which are significant for the physiological function of exercise. Dietary modulation targeting the gut microbiota is an effective prescription for improving exercise performance and alleviating exercise fatigue. This article discusses the connection between exercise and the makeup of the gut microbiota, as well as the detrimental effects of excessive exercise on gut health. Herein, we elaborate on the possible mechanism of the gut microbiota in improving exercise performance, which involves enhancing skeletal muscle function, reducing oxidative stress, and regulating the neuroendocrine system. The effects of dietary nutrition strategies and probiotic supplementation on exercise from the perspective of the gut microbiota are also discussed in this paper. A deeper understanding of the potential mechanism by which the gut microbiota exerts positive effects on exercise and dietary nutrition recommendations targeting the gut microbiota is significant for improving exercise performance. However, further investigation is required to fully comprehend the intricate mechanisms at work.

This study investigated the effect of astragalus polysaccharide (APS, an ingredient with hypoglycemic function in a traditional Chinese herbal medicine) on gut microbiota and metabolites of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients using a simulated fermentation model in vitro. The main components of APS were isolated, purified, and structure characterized. APS fermentation was found to increase the abundance of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium and decrease the Escherichia-Shigella level in the fecal microbiota of T2DM patients. Apart from increasing propionic acid, APS also caused an increase in all-trans-retinoic acid and thiamine (both have antioxidant properties), with their enrichment in the KEGG pathway associated with thiamine metabolism, etc. Notably, APS could also enhance fecal antioxidant properties. Correlation analysis confirmed a significant positive correlation of Lactobacillus with thiamine and DPPH-clearance rate, suggesting the antioxidant activity of APS was related to its ability to enrich some specific bacteria and upregulate their metabolites.

Pollen fertility is a critical factor in seed development and crop breeding. Extensive studies have explored the mechanisms of pollen fertility in model plants and economic crops. However, the mechanisms of pollen abortion in medicinal and edible plants, including Lycium barbarum, remain elusive. This study utilized transcriptome analysis to identify key genes and regulatory networks implicated in pollen fertility in L. barbarum. The results demonstrated differential expression of 12,185 genes (DEGs) between the sterile and fertile lines, encompassing 489 genes that exhibited variation across the five stages of pollen development. Additionally, GO and KEGG enrichment analyses indicated that the DEGs were predominantly associated with energy metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and notably, hydrolase activity. Co-expression network analysis unveiled two modules intimately associated with fertility, each comprising 908 and 756 hub genes, incorporating β-1,3-glucanase genes (Glu) and co-expressed transcription factors (TFs). Phylogenetic analysis implied that LbGlu1 was a potential candidate gene implicated in regulating pollen abortion in L. barbarum. This work advances a novel understanding of pollen abortion in L. barbarum and offers theoretical support for the utilization of sterility genes to enhance crop improvement.

Hybrid nanomaterials have attracted considerable interest in biomedicine because of their fascinating characteristics and wide range of applications in targeted drug delivery, antibacterial activity, and cancer treatment. This study developed a gelatin-coated Titanium oxide/palladium (TiO2/Pd) hybrid nanomaterial to enhance the antibacterial and anticancer capabilities. Morphological and structural analyses were conducted to characterize the synthesized hybrid nanomaterial. The surface texture of the hybrid nanomaterials was examined by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The FE-SEM image revealed the bulk of the spherically shaped particles and the aggregated tiny granules. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) revealed Ti, Pd, C, and O. X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed the gelatin-coated TiO2/Pd to be in the anatase form. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy examined the interactions among the gelatin-coated TiO2/Pd nanoparticles. The gelatin-coated TiO2/Pd nanomaterials exhibited high antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (22 mm) and Bacillus subtilis (17 mm) compared to individual nanoparticles, confirming the synergistic effect. More importantly, the gelatin-coated TiO2/Pd hybrid nanomaterial exhibited remarkable cytotoxic effects on A549 lung cancer cells which shows a linear increase with the concentration of the nanomaterial. The hybrid nanomaterials displayed higher toxicity to cancer cells than the nanoparticles alone. Furthermore, the cytotoxic activity against human cancer cells was verified by the generation of reactive oxygen species and nuclear damage. Therefore, gelatin-coated TiO2/Pd nanomaterials have potential uses in treating cancer and bacterial infections.

X65 pipeline steel is widely used in the field of offshore oil and gas exploitation due to its excellent performance. However, due to the complex environment in the ocean, X65 pipeline steel is faced with a great risk of microbial corrosion failure. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the corrosion mechanism of X65 pipeline steel by microorganisms. In this paper, the corrosion effect of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) secreting phenazine compounds on X65 pipeline steel was studied by the weight loss method, biofilm scanning electron microscopy analysis, surface corrosion morphology observation, electrochemical testing and medium pH test corrosion products. The results showed that the inoculation of P. aeruginosa accelerated the corrosion of X65 steel. After knocking out the phzM and phzS genes that regulate the synthesis of PYO, P. aeruginosa can still produce biofilms on the surface of X65 steel consistent with the morphology of wild-type P. aeruginosa, but the corrosion of X65 steel is significantly reduced. It is proved that PYO plays an important role in the corrosion process of P. aeruginosa on steel.

The main varieties of Echinopsis Radix recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia are the roots of Echinops latifolius Tausch or Echinops grijsii Hance. However, the chemical constituents and biological activities of this herb have not been reviewed. In order to clarify the chemical constituents of the main varieties of this herb and improve the quality of Chinese medicinal material resources, this paper systematically reviewed their chemical constituents and related biological activities. Phytochemical investigations reveal eighty-five compounds including fort y-nine thiophenes (1–49), eight flavonoids (50–57), seven caffeic acids and its derivatives (58–64), eight sesquiterpenoids (65–72), and thirteen triterpenoids and other compounds (73–85) were reported from Echinopsis Radix. The review of biological activities suggests that thiophenes are the main secondary metabolites of the medicinal material which exert antitumor, insecticidal and antifungal activities. In addition, caffeic acid and its derivatives and sesquiterpenes are potential active ingredients worthy of further study. This review provides an important scientific basis for the development of active ingredients and resource quality evaluation of Echinopsis Radix.

Event cameras are bio-inspired neuromorphic sensors that have emerged in recent years, with advantages such as high temporal resolutions, high dynamic ranges, low latency, and low power consumption. Event cameras can be used to build event-based imaging polarimeters, overcoming the limited frame rates and low dynamic ranges of existing systems. Since events cannot provide absolute brightness intensity in different angles of polarization (AoPs), degree of linear polarization (DoLP) recovery in non-division-of-time (non-DoT) event-based imaging polarimeters is an ill-posed problem. Thus, we need a data-driven deep learning approach. Deep learning requires large amounts of data for training, and constructing a dataset for event-based non-DoT imaging polarimeters requires significant resources, scenarios, and time. We propose a method for generating datasets using simulated polarization distributions from existing red–green–blue images. Combined with event simulator V2E, the proposed method can easily construct large datasets for network training. We also propose an end-to-end event-based DoLP recovery network to solve the problem of DoLP recovery using event-based non-DoT imaging polarimeters. Finally, we construct a division-of-time event-based imaging polarimeter simulating an event-based four-channel non-DoT imaging polarimeter. Using real-world polarization events and DoLP ground truths, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed simulation method and network.

The fungal cell wall serves as the primary interface between fungi and their external environment, providing protection and facilitating interactions with the surroundings. Chitin is a vital structural element in fungal cell wall. Chitin deacetylase (CDA) can transform chitin into chitosan through deacetylation, providing various biological functions across fungal species. Although this modification is widespread in fungi, the biological functions of CDA enzymes in Aspergillus flavus remain largely unexplored. In this study, we aimed to investigate the biofunctions of the CDA family in A. flavus. The A. flavus genome contains six annotated putative chitin deacetylases. We constructed knockout strains targeting each member of the CDA family, including Δcda1, Δcda2, Δcda3, Δcda4, Δcda5, and Δcda6. Functional analyses revealed that the deletion of CDA family members neither significantly affects the chitin content nor exhibits the expected chitin deacetylation function in A. flavus. However, the Δcda6 strain displayed distinct phenotypic characteristics compared to the wild-type (WT), including an increased conidia count, decreased mycelium production, heightened aflatoxin production, and impaired seed colonization. Subcellular localization experiments indicated the cellular localization of CDA6 protein within the cell wall of A. flavus filaments. Moreover, our findings highlight the significance of the CBD1 and CBD2 structural domains in mediating the functional role of the CDA6 protein. Overall, we analyzed the gene functions of CDA family in A. flavus, which contribute to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying aflatoxin contamination and lay the groundwork for potential biocontrol strategies targeting A. flavus.

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) have been found in great numbers, but the physical mechanism of these sources is still a mystery. The redshift evolutions of the FRB energy distribution function and the volumetric rate shed light on the origin of FRBs. However, such estimations rely on the dispersion measurement (DM)–redshift (z) relationship. A few FRBs that have been detected recently show large excess DMs beyond the expectation from the cosmological and Milky Way contributions, which indicates large spread of DMs from their host galaxies. In this work, we adopt two lognormal-distributed DMhost models and estimate the energy function using the non-repeating FRBs selected from the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME)/FRB Catalog 1. By comparing the lognormal-distributed DMhost models to a constant DMhost model, the FRB energy function results are consistent within the measurement uncertainty. We also estimate the volumetric rate of the non-repeating FRBs in three different redshift bins. The volumetric rate shows that the trend is consistent with the stellar-mass density redshift evolution. Since the lognormal-distributed DMhost model increases the measurement errors, the inference of FRBs tracking the stellar-mass density is nonetheless undermined.

Soil organic matter (SOM) is important for the global carbon cycle, and hyperspectral remote sensing has proven to be a promising method for fast SOM content estimation. However, because of the neglect of the spectral response of soil physical properties, the accuracy and spatiotemporal transferability of the SOM prediction model are poor. This study aims to improve the spatiotemporal transferability of the SOM prediction model by alleviating the coupling effect of soil physical properties on spectra. Based on satellite hyperspectral images and soil physical variables, including soil moisture (SM), soil surface roughness (root-mean-square height, RMSH), and soil bulk weight (SBW), a soil spectral correction model was established based on the information unmixing method. Two important grain-producing areas in Northeast China were selected as study areas to verify the performance and transferability of the spectral correction model and SOM content prediction model. The results showed that soil spectral corrections based on fourth-order polynomials and the XG-Boost algorithm had excellent accuracy and generalization ability, with residual predictive deviations (RPDs) exceeding 1.4 in almost all the bands. In addition, when the soil spectral correction strategy was adopted, the accuracy of the SOM prediction model and the generalization ability after the model migration were significantly improved. The SOM prediction accuracy based on the XG-Boost-corrected spectrum was the highest, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.76, a root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 5.74 g/kg, and an RPD of 1.68. The prediction accuracy, R2 value, RMSE, and RPD of the model after the migration were 0.72, 6.71 g/kg, and 1.53, respectively. Compared with the direct migration prediction of the model, adopting the soil spectral correction model based on fourth-order polynomials and XG-Boost reduced the RMSE of the SOM prediction results by 57.90% and 60.27%, respectively. This performance comparison highlighted the advantages for considering soil physical properties in regional-scale SOM predictions.

Rice, a staple food for billions around the globe, is cultivated in numerous forms. Among them, soft rice is well known, which is characterized by its tender, creamy consistency and desirable texture. In this study, we examined the physicochemical properties and fine structure of starch from two soft rice varieties, Jinong Xiangruan 1 and DGR1, cultivated in different regions in China (Baodi District, Tianjin City; Liaoning Province; and Fengyang City, Anhui Province). The aim was to understand how amylopectin content (AC) influences rice quality. This research aims to bridge the knowledge gap regarding the role of amylopectin in determining rice’s adhesive consistency and viscosity. Significant regional differences were observed in yield components such as the number of grains per panicle, seed setting rates and 1000-grain weight, with Liaoning generally showing higher performance metrics compared to other regions. Physicochemical analysis highlighted that though glue consistency and taste values showed little regional variation, AC significantly influenced rice hardness and viscosity. Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA) profile analysis further demonstrated distinct differences in viscosity characteristics, underscoring the regional impacts on starch behavior. Additionally, molecular weight distribution and amylopectin chain length analysis, conducted via SEC-MALLS-RI and ICS ion chromatography, revealed notable differences in starch composition across varieties and locations. The findings suggest that environmental conditions play a crucial role in defining starch characteristics and, consequently, the eating quality of rice. This provides valuable insights for breeding high-quality japonica rice with broad adaptability.

Tower cranes play a crucial role in the construction industry, facilitating the vertical and horizontal movement of materials and aiding in building construction, especially for high-rise structures. However, tower crane accidents can lead to severe consequences, highlighting the importance of effective safety management and inspection. This paper presents a novel approach to tower crane safety inspections using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) equipped with high-definition cameras and an intelligent inspection APP system. The system utilizes real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning and digital image processing to perform efficient and comprehensive inspections, reducing the reliance on manual labor and associated risks. A case study demonstrated the method’s practicality and effectiveness, with the UAV inspections capable of identifying 76.3% of major hazards, 64.8% of significant hazards, and 76.2% of general hazards within a 30-minute timeframe. Preliminary identification rates were also promising. Despite the initial requirement for manual drone piloting and the current manual review of images, the approach shows significant potential for enhancing safety in the construction industry. Future work will focus on integrating AI for hazard recognition and automating the inspection process further. The proposed method marks a step forward in tower crane safety management, offering a more efficient and accurate alternative to traditional inspection methods.

Previous studies have focused on task/ambient illumination for visual effects and eye illumination for non-visual effects. In this context, eye illumination within the non-visual realm was defined as vertical non-visual eye illuminance. Considering the functional specificity of central vision and peripheral vision, this study aims to explore whether the distribution of eye illuminance in the horizontal field of view (FOV) affects human performance in home paper-based learning settings. In this study, a within-subject design was used to investigate the effects of eye illuminance distribution on mental perception, task performance, and physiological health while maintaining constant task illuminance and correlated color temperature (CCT). The findings revealed that eye illuminance and its distribution in the horizontal FOV had complex effects on visual fatigue, Landolt ring performance, heart rate variability, and luminous environment appraisal. A relatively optimal lighting configuration was suggested—Scene 4, which was characterized by an eye illuminance level in central FOV of 186 lx and an “m” shaped eye illuminance distribution pattern. This indicates the importance of considering eye illuminance distribution in the horizontal FOV, rather than solely focusing on vertical eye illuminance.

Epidemiological and clinical evidence have extensively documented the role of obesity in the development of endometrial cancer. However, the effect of fatty acids on cell growth in endometrial cancer has not been widely studied. Here, we reported that palmitic acid significantly inhibited cell proliferation of endometrial cancer cells and primary cultures of endometrial cancer and reduced tumor growth in a transgenic mouse model of endometrial cancer, in parallel with increased cellular stress and apoptosis and decreased cellular adhesion and invasion. Inhibition of cellular stress by N-acetyl-L-cysteine effectively reversed the effects of palmitic acid on cell proliferation, apoptosis, and invasive capacity in endometrial cancer cells. Palmitic acid increased the intracellular formation of lipid droplets in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Depletion of lipid droplets by blocking DGAT1 and DGAT2 effectively increased the ability of palmitic acid to inhibit cell proliferation and induce cleaved caspase 3 activity. Collectively, this study provides new insight into the effect of palmitic acid on cell proliferation and invasion and the formation of lipid droplets that may have potential clinical relevance in the treatment of obesity-driven endometrial cancer.

The immobilization of enzymes is an important strategy to improve their stability and reusability. Enzyme immobilization technology has broad application prospects in biotechnology, biochemistry, environmental remediation, and other fields. In this study, composites of chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (SA) with Cu2+ forming a double-network crosslinked structure of hydrogels were prepared and used for the immobilization of laccase. Fourier infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy tests revealed that laccase molecules were immobilized on the composite hydrogel surface by a covalent bonding method. Compared to free laccase, the pH, temperature, and storage stability of the immobilized laccase were markedly improved. In addition, the immobilized laccase could be easily separated from the reaction system and reused, and it maintained 81.6% of its initial viability after six cycles of use. Bisphenol A (BPA) in polluted water was efficiently degraded using immobilized laccase, and the factors affecting the degradation efficiency were analyzed. Under the optimal conditions, the BPA removal was greater than 82%, and the addition of a small amount of ABTS had a significant effect on BPA degradation, with a removal rate of up to 99.1%. Experimental results indicated that immobilized laccases had enormous potential in actual industrial applications.

This study layed the groundwork for the creation of haploid and triploid celestial goldfish, presenting essential data derived from preliminary investigations. The research delved into three main areas: the short-term preservation of celestial goldfish gametes, the interaction between oocytes and foreign sperm, and the effects of temperature on fertilized eggs concerning hatching rates and late-stage ocular development. Initially, the study explored the optimal semen dilution ratio for celestial goldfish under microscopic examination. And the hybridization of the largemouth bass and celestial goldfish was investigated: largemouth bass sperm was crossbred with celestial goldfish eggs, and it was found that their sperm could not stimulate the development of celestial eye eggs. At last, celestial goldfish fertilized eggs were stimulated at 4 °C and −20 °C, respectively, to observe their impact on the hatching rate and later celestial eye rate. The results revealed no significant differences in hatching rate and celestial eye rate between the cold stimulus groups and the control group, but numerically, the 4 °C cold stimulation reduced the celestial eye rate of celestial goldfish fertilized eggs. The research provided fundamental data for artificial breeding and hybridization experiments in celestial goldfish.

Cellulose is used widely in antimicrobial packaging due to its abundance in nature, biodegradability, renewability, non-toxicity, and low cost. However, how efficiently and rapidly it imparts high antimicrobial activity to cellulose-based packaging materials remains a challenge. In this work, Ag NPs were deposited on the surface of carboxymethyl cellulose/starch/N’N Methylenebisacrylamide film using ultrasonic radiation. Morphology and structure analysis of as-prepared films were conducted, and the antibacterial effects under different ultrasonic times and reductant contents were investigated. These results showed that Ag NPs were distributed uniformly on the film surface under an ultrasonic time of 45 min. The size of Ag NPs changes as the reducing agent content decreases. The composite film demonstrated a slightly better antibacterial effect against E. coli than against S. aureus. Therefore, this work can provide valuable insights for the research on antimicrobial packaging.
