Sustainability is one of the emerging areas in building construction, and it is widely investigated in terms of bringing sustainable technology into construction. However, one of the biggest challenges in the construction industry is implementing sustainability. Building contractors and construction practitioners mostly struggle with the implementation of sustainability due to the lack of certain parameters that define sustainability. Therefore, this study investigates the factors for effective sustainability implementation to provide industry practitioners with the benefit of the extensive list of parameters when designing their sustainability program. To research the parameters, a questionnaire was designed and administered to construction professionals with wide experience in sustainability implementation. The respondents were asked to evaluate a set of sustainability factors in the economic, social, and environmental domains. This way, the study provides reflections from construction practitioners working on large projects. The findings indicated that Ethical and Relational Factors in economic sustainability, Historical and Social Relations Factors in social sustainability, and Material Usage Factors in environmental sustainability are the most important for effective sustainability implementation. The findings are expected to help construction practitioners understand metrics of sustainability, effectively manage their projects, and successfully implement sustainability with the consideration of proper metrics.

Digital transformation (DT) is revolutionizing building facility management (FM) by streamlining operations, maximizing resources, and increasing performance. FM firms prioritize DT to stay competitive as speed and efficiency become more crucial in the corporate context. Traditional FM methods like manual record-keeping and reactive maintenance cannot meet recent corporate needs. Modern technologies such as IoT, AI, digital twins, and data analytics enable real-time building asset monitoring and optimization. This paper evaluates the digital transformation readiness level index of building facility management (DTRLIBFM), which includes critical success factors for DT development, using structural equation modeling (SEM). DTRLIBFM model determines the importance of key factors that contribute to the success of digital transformation initiatives, specifically focusing on the DT readiness level index of building facility management. Expert interviews and an intensive literature review were employed to identify the critical success factors for the DTRLIFMB. The Delphi technique was employed to validate these factors with 13 highly experienced professionals, and they were subsequently appraised for significance through an online questionnaire that was circulated to industry experts. To quantitatively evaluate the interconnectedness of different elements of DTRLIFMB and establish the impact of each construct on the overall digital transformation, data from 220 participants from around the world were analyzed using (SEM). The evaluation included reliability, validity, hypothesis testing, multivariate normality, and goodness-of-fit indexes. The DTRLIBFM model, with 20 indicators in three constructs, explains how DT readiness affects a building’s digitalization importance level. The research provides governments, organizations, contractors, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and facility managers with a current DT index and DT roadmap for building facility management.

The construction industry continues to play a significant role in the economic development of most nations in the world. However, the construction sector still follows the ‘linear’ ‘take–make–dispose’ industrial model that, having benefited development, plays a major factor in the depletion of resources, environmental deterioration, and the generation of waste and pollution. In this regard, the adoption of a circular economy (CE) presents a compelling opportunity to address the challenges derived from the traditional linear economic model. This study attempts to scrutinise the critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing a CE via a mixed-method approach that combines both focus groups and an online survey. The adopted approach ensures a comprehensive identification and prioritisation of CSFs for implementing CE principles in building construction projects. The focus groups consisted of 20 key stakeholders drawn from prominent construction firms which included clients, consultants, contractors and designers. The outcomes from these focused groups led to the dentification of 43 CSFs, later categorised across different dimensions. Subsequently, an online survey was conducted to establish a priority list of the identified CSFs, using responses from 82 stakeholders to rate their level of importance. The top five significant CSFs include ensuring the use of standardised and warranted secondary materials, maintaining cost equivalence between a CE and linear approach, maintenance and operation cost minimisation, assessment of life cycle cost (LCC), and the enforcement of robust government regulations and policies that prioritise a CE. The Relative Importance Index (RII) was used to rank the identified CSFs following results obtained using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 27) and Excel for Microsoft 365. The findings of this study can inform the creation of decision support systems that could progress a CE across the construction project life cycle.

Active learning is essential for students in the construction and surveying disciplines due to the practical work nature and technical demands of these professions. This research study aims to identify and evaluate effective pedagogical strategies and critical success factors (CSFs) that can enhance active learning among undergraduate construction and surveying students. Customized e-learning materials based on the Technology, Pedagogy, Content, and Knowledge (TPACK) framework were adopted to improve the learning outcomes and effectiveness for semester-long construction-related research course students. Subsequently, an institutional student-based questionnaire survey was conducted and analyzed using mean score, exploratory factor analysis, and fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE). Accordingly, the top five active instructional learning strategies are using examples to reinforce understanding, case studies to encourage critical thinking, videos to improve understanding, connecting course contents to current community events, and creating classroom versions of interactive games. Exploratory factor analysis classified the CSFs into five major factor categories. The FSE results indicated that the top three CSF categories enhancing students’ active learning include electronic tools as learning aids, complementary learning and feedback, and model learning system development. This study provides essential learning environments and components needed to foster active learning among undergraduate construction and surveying students in Hong Kong and worldwide.

Industry 4.0 technologies have been gaining significant momentum in recent years. Despite widespread adoption, many companies struggle with the successful implementation of these technologies. This study aims to identify the critical success factors for implementing Industry 4.0 technologies and to examine the effects of various factor combinations. Using the technology–organization–environment framework and the practice-based view, this paper proposes a comprehensive research model. This study employs a hybrid approach combining structural equation modeling (SEM) and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze survey data collected from 202 Chinese manufacturing firms. The SEM results indicate that top management support, technology competence, supplier support, and pilot projects are significantly associated with successful implementation. However, the fsQCA results reveal that individual factors alone are insufficient for success; rather, it is the combinations of these factors that drive successful implementation. Specifically, three key combinations lead to success: (1) top management support and technology competence; (2) top management support and supplier support; and (3) technology competence, supplier support, and pilot projects. By recognizing these combinations, manufacturing firms can develop more effective implementation strategies for Industry 4.0 technologies.

The global shipping industry faces many uncertainties which impact on how organisations within this sector will perform in the future. Research in the critical success factors which impact the global shipping industry in the digital era is lacking. This study plugs the gap in the literature by identifying four key critical success factors which are innovation capability, risk governance capability, leadership and strategic capability, and technological capability. In addition, this study also found three organisational performance measures that are useful for senior management teams within the industry, namely, financial performance, operational performance and marketing performance. The results were then triangulated and validated by the case study method using a global shipping organisation. The findings establish a set of critical success factors and the corresponding relationships between the identified critical success factors and the identified organisational performance measures. The paper also provides managerial insights for industry practitioners for defining, prioritising and allocating resources in order to improve organisational performance.

Currently, because of global competition, companies within the manufacturing industry must implement new organizational and production techniques to compete and stay active. The use of continuous improvement tools has become an opportunity and an effective strategy to achieve this. However, there is evidence that many continuous improvement programs are not successfully implemented due to a lack of information related to human management during the implementation of these projects in the manufacturing industry. In this context, the objective of this research is to identify factors influencing the dynamics and effectiveness of work teams for the implementation and development of continuous improvement tools in the manufacturing industry. A literature review was conducted using the PRISMA method, considering scientific articles related to the main factors that affect the dynamics and effectiveness of work teams in relation to the implementation of continuous improvement tools. From the review and evaluation of the studies, 60 factors were identified that affect the effectiveness of work teams in relation to continuous improvement within the manufacturing industry. Subsequently, a Pareto analysis was conducted on the critical success factors based on the number of occurrences in the analyzed literature, identifying 32 critical success factors considered vital for the implementation of continuous improvement projects. It is concluded that the factors arise from two common elements, the involvement of senior management and the company’s own culture. Therefore, to ensure the effectiveness of work teams and their continuous improvement projects, management must focus attention on this cultural change mainly by providing the necessary resources for the development of the project, establishing an adequate and effective reward system, and, most importantly, directing efforts towards staff empowerment.

In contemporary academia and industry, the commercialization of technology through licensing has emerged as a prevalent strategy. This paradigmatic shift has prompted numerous industrial firms to intensify their focus on technology commercialization as a mechanism to optimize the returns on their research and development investments, while concurrently leveraging their comprehensive technology portfolios. However, despite growing interest in this area, there exists a conspicuous gap in scholarly literature exploring how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can effectively and efficiently capitalize on this opportunity in a global context. The objective of the present study is to fill this void by offering an in-depth analysis of the key determinants that contribute to the successful commercialization of technology via licensing. Employing a qualitative research methodology, this paper presents a comparative case study that explores four separate international licensing alliances, each formed between the same licensor, specializing in solar mounting system engineering, and four different licensees, all engaged in the production and marketing of this specialized technology. Data were meticulously gathered through a triangulated approach that incorporated interviews with both licensor and licensees, extensive desk research, and on-site observations. Our empirical findings reveal that the critical success factors identified in existing literature are not uniformly significant. Specifically, four elements—relational dynamics, cultural considerations, human capital, and resource allocation—emerged as pivotal in ensuring the successful implementation of technology commercialization strategies. By elucidating these nuanced factors, this study contributes to both academic discourse and practical applications, thereby serving as a valuable resource for SMEs aiming to navigate the complexities of technology commercialization in international settings.

Having effective and efficient financing is one of the most critical steps in accelerating public infrastructure development, including toll roads. This study aims to identify critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing toll infrastructure financing in Indonesia. Thirty-three CSFs have been identified from the literature review. A Delphi survey was conducted involving a panel of experts in the infrastructure industry. Based on the survey, it is known that the internal rate of return, affordability, investment decisions, commercial banks, financing costs, interest rate risk, control of cash flow, contract scope, and principles of risk transfer are important factors for implementing toll infrastructure financing in Indonesia. This study fills research gaps by developing a CSF model for successful toll road infrastructure financing in Indonesian PPPs, considering private perspectives and aiming to provide insights for investors and enhance understanding of country profiles in developing countries. The focus on toll road implementation in Indonesia contributes to a comprehensive understanding of CSFs for PPPs in the country.

This article aims to provide valuable new insights into organizations implementing Lean Manufacturing (LM) as a continuous improvement strategy, focusing on those which are reducing waste in order to increase their competitiveness. A statistical approach was used to model the causal relationships between LM Critical Success Factors (CSFs) to achieve this goal. We used an instrument which has been previously validated in the transportation equipment manufacturing sector in the Mexican manufacturing industry. The proposed hypotheses were subjected to empirical tests using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. The results indicate that Top Management Involvement and Commitment, with Project Leadership as a mediator, contributes indirectly and significantly to the increase in the benefits of LM projects. In addition, it was observed that Customer Focus, Linking Lean to the Suppliers, and Training and Education directly influence the increase in the benefits of LM projects in the sector. These findings offer a frame of reference for manufacturing industries with similar characteristics to the sector in this study who wish to increase their benefits by developing projects using LM methodology.

Amid Australia’s surging house prices, rental housing has become the safety net for young adults experiencing housing stress. The attention of policymakers is drawn towards the build-to-rent (BTR) housing model, a growing housing option for many young Australian adults. Although BTR’s integration into Australia’s housing and planning landscape is unfolding, the perception of young adults is lacking in policy reforms for this growing industry. This study examines the perspectives of young adults aged 18 to 34 years on the critical success factors (CSFs) of the BTR housing provision in Australia. The responses are analysed using an explanatory factor analysis, relative importance index, and ANOVA. Our findings show a critically low awareness of BTR among young adults in Australia. Respondents, between 18 and 24 years, are most concerned with public awareness, an indication of their desire for transparency and engagement in decision making at the policy level. Young adults rank regulation and government policy interventions as the most important CSF of BTR housing. This shows that they are more concerned about the affordability of BTR houses. This study concludes that young adults’ viewpoints on BTR are important in ongoing policy reforms. There is a need to ensure that this asset class is accessible and affordable to this target group.

E-learning has gained a prominent role in the education scenario, either because of its capacity for extraterritorial coverage, or because of the scale it offers for free and academic courses. How e-learning is being managed and identifying opportunities for improvement in this process is a challenge for managers. A systematic review of the literature on e-learning was carried out from the perspective of process management. The Scimat and VOSviewer software were used together to make it possible to understand the volume of publications, terms, density, and perspectives of studies on the subject on the indexing platforms, as well as pointing out challenges and trends in the area. The term e-learning does not appear as a trend driver in published articles. When related to the terms critical success factors (CSFs) and competitiveness and innovation, the greatest concentration of articles is directed to the e-learning infrastructure or technologies applied to it. As a result, it is possible to observe that the co-occurrence of e-learning with critical success factors and competitiveness and innovation is in its early stages, with scarce research in this area indicating room for future growth. E-learning entails unique business metrics that require specific tools and knowledge of technology, concepts, and the organizational environment. However, there is a dearth of publications addressing these aspects and proposing relevant methodologies and processes.

The building sector is widely acknowledged as a driving force behind national prosperity. However, there are considerable challenges to the construction industry’s transition to sustainable practices, including regarding building information modelling (BIM) technologies. The United Arab Emirates has made significant progress in the Middle East in adopting BIM technologies. Green building approaches have been advanced through their incorporation into environmentally conscious building practices, with a large body of literature responding to this issue. Several projects in the United Arab Emirates have, however, made use of the complementary nature of BIM and UAE sustainable policies. However, not everybody has employed the full potential of BIM implementation in sustainable construction. This paper aims to identify and prioritize the critical success factors (CSFs) for effective BIM implementation as a sustainable construction practice in the UAE and examine their ranking and relationships. A list of critical success factors was gathered from a review of previous literature to identify the essential factors for successful implementation. A standardized questionnaire was distributed to consulting organizations and engineering enterprises to verify the existence of these CSFs and measure their importance in the context of the UAE’s construction industry. The survey data was analyzed using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique to elaborate and validate the results, which was specifically applicable to the needs of this study. The results from the AHP analysis show that the social aspects were ranked as the highest critical success factor compared to the other criteria, namely economic, environmental, and information technology. Within this criterion, it was found that effective communication among stakeholders is the most important element, as subject matter experts feel that it is imperative to have buy-in from all or most of the construction project stakeholders to achieve the strategic goal of implementing BIM. Equally anticipated are both an effective corporate framework to back up the BIM system and government funding to build the BIM system.

Against the backdrop of the post-pandemic period, there is an increasing need for blended learning in modern higher education systems. Critical success factors for blended learning should be considered as key indicators of learning outcomes. Therefore, the aim is to systematically review studies that examine the critical success factors for blended learning from the perspectives of the learner, instructor, course, design, technology, and environment. Eighty-two articles were analysed according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis) principles. The results show that critical success factors in these six dimensions have a positive impact on blended learning outcomes. These critical success factors are mainly learner characteristics, teacher characteristics, course materials and objectives, learning characteristics according to institutional objectives, ICT system, and learning environment. Future research could explore the impact of positive emotions on student and teacher learning outcomes in blended learning.

The objective of this study is to ascertain the essential elements that contribute to the successful implementation of cloud computing in small-scale construction projects, with the ultimate goal of promoting intelligent development in Malaysia. The construction sector is undergoing rapid transformation, and the integration of cloud computing technology can make a substantial contribution to the achievement of project objectives and the promotion of sustainable development. Nonetheless, there exists a dearth of comprehension regarding the function of cloud computing in minor construction undertakings within the Malaysian context. In order to bridge this gap, a mixed-methods approach was implemented, which encompassed a comprehensive review of the literature, interviews with experts, and a preliminary survey that involved 160 participants. Utilizing the findings of the pilot survey, the process of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was employed to discern and eliminate nonessential determinants of success. A survey utilizing primary questionnaires was conducted with a sample size of 230 participants. The subsequent analysis of 16 critical success factors was carried out through the application of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that there are four fundamental constructs that play a crucial role in the effective execution of a project. These include cost, quality, and time management (β = 0.352); planning success (β = 0.360); organizational success (β = 0.351); and communication and coordination (β = 0.299). The research results have favorable ramifications for the construction sector in Malaysia. The integration of cloud computing technology in minor construction endeavors has the potential to augment project efficacy and foster sustainable development. This study offers a roadmap for stakeholders in the construction industry to effectively utilize cloud computing technology for smart development by identifying critical success factors.

This study aims to identify the relationships between critical factors and successful Enterprise Resource Planning implementation in the agricultural processing companies of Central Macedonia’s (Greece) region. Therefore, critical factors are taken into account collectively, as aspects of ERP implementation and its life cycle. Based on that, two versions of the particular information system’s management were presented, aiming to its success in the Greek agricultural processing field. The methodology which was used in order for the purposes of this analysis to be served, was that of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. Through the answers given, it was determined whether the importance shown to the two different versions of critical factors is related to the degree of ERP systems’ success—or not—and in which way. Based on that, two management versions of ERP system are provided but also the scientific literature regarding the Greek and Central Macedonian field, is enriched. Lastly, helpful guidelines are developed in order for professionals and managers to understand the ways in which critical factors can be taken into account so as for the successful implementation of ERP in agribusinesses -specialized in the field of agricultural products processing- to be feasible.

The Food Supply Chain (FSC) can be made more efficient, resilient, and transparent by implementing industry 4.0 technologies. In this context, blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) become a panacea for several FSC problems. As a result of FSC complexity and their specific needs, the adoption of Blockchain integrated IoT (B-IoT) in FSC is challenging, and further investigation is required. Therefore, this study aims to explore the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for the adoption B-IoT in FSC. To achieve this objective, a literature review is conducted to identify the CSFs of B-IoT adoption and then a grey Delphi is conducted on finalised CSFs. Ten CSFs finalised that faceplate for the adoption of B-IoT in FSC. Further, these CSFs were analysed through a grey Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to determine the importance and causal relationships among them. A grey DEMATEL analysis also categorised these factors into influencing and influenced groups. The findings showed that “top management support”, “knowledge management”, “technology hardware readiness”, “skilled personnel”, and “high investment” were the influencing factors that needed to be addressed for the effective adoption of B-IoT. The FSC partners could benefit from the findings of this study by focusing on high-priority CSFs. The causal relationship among CSFs also helps the managers achieve optimal utilisation of resources. Further, this study encourages the FSC stakeholders to adopt the B-IoT in their supply chain to improve their performance.

In the last decades, Albania has started the implementation of a new practice which is partnership with the private sector, named public–private partnership (PPP), due to the inabilities of the public sector to fulfill all its public needs. This represents a crucial ratio related to economic development and the struggle for a fair and transparent implementation process. Critical success factors (CSF) are the significant elements in the partnership which, if properly identified, provide success in implementation. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to highlight the factors which increase the chances of a successful implementation of PPPs in Albania and the items which contribute to each factor. The data used for the analysis were gained through 175 surveys conducted with people working in private and public institutions engaged in PPP. Of the main CSFs, the identification of the right project is ranked most critical to the success of PPP followed by financial capacity, trust, openness and fairness between parties, negotiation and defined revenue stream. The study findings further suggest that the accountability mechanism should be enforced in order for the public sector to act in accordance with the public interest. It is concluded that the findings of the study will guide the PPP stakeholders on the CSFs of PPPs in Albania.

Supporting the growth of minority-owned small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is an important goal in many countries. In the US, Latinos start businesses faster than any other demographic group, yet Latino wealth and income have not kept pace with the broader society. In this study, we explore the impact of different business and owner characteristics on the performance of Latino-owned small businesses. Using a survey of over 200 Latino small business owners in Silicon Valley, we apply ordered logistic regression to measure the effect of several variables on firm revenue. Our findings suggest that in addition to the gender and education of the owner, the most important factors impacting business performance are the owner’s commitment to the business, formal registration of the business, and the degree to which the business is integrated into the broader business community. This research adds to our understanding of the factors that significantly impact the economic success of Latino-owned small businesses. The results will be helpful to organizations that support the development and sustainability of Latino entrepreneurship.

Street view imagery (SVI) provides efficient access to data that can be used to research spatial quality at the human scale. The previous reviews have mainly focused on specific health findings and neighbourhood environments. There has not been a comprehensive review of this topic. In this paper, we systematically review the literature on the application of SVI in the built environment, following a formal innovation–decision framework. The main findings are as follows: (I) SVI remains an effective tool for automated research assessments. This offers a new research avenue to expand the built environment-measurement methods to include perceptions in addition to physical features. (II) Currently, SVI is functional and valuable for quantifying the built environment, spatial sentiment perception, and spatial semantic speculation. (III) The significant dilemmas concerning the adoption of this technology are related to image acquisition, the image quality, spatial and temporal distribution, and accuracy. (IV) This research provides a rapid assessment and provides researchers with guidance for the adoption and implementation of SVI. Data integration and management, proper image service provider selection, and spatial metrics measurements are the critical success factors. A notable trend is the application of SVI towards a focus on the perceptions of the built environment, which provides a more refined and effective way to depict urban forms in terms of physical and social spaces.

The aim of this study is to identify non-technological critical success factors (CSFs) that influence the different phases of the project life cycle for the deployment of centralized biogas projects; as there is a knowledge gap in this area. This was performed by applying a longitudinal process analysis approach and an analytical framework based on findings from previous studies. Data were collected through extensive document collection and analysis, combined with in-depth semi-structured interviews. The study resulted in the identification of a total of 30 non-technological critical success factors in the case of Solrød Biogas. These were subsequently linked to one of the different phases of the project lifecycle (conceptualization phase, planning phase, execution phase) or categorized as general CSFs. We hope that the findings in this study can help ensure better management of biogas projects and enhance the capabilities of governmental bodies in supporting projects in the future, so a higher rate of centralized biogas projects is successfully implemented both in Denmark and other countries

Strategic information system planning (SISP) is a central process that enables organizations to identify the strategic alignment of their IT portfolio to achieve their business needs and objectives. The extant SISP literature has focused on theoretical and processual aspects and has left methodological ambiguity about how SISP is practiced. This paper contributes to the current knowledge by providing a mixed-methods SISP framework labeled CSF-MCDM for company-wide strategic alignment. The paper conducts a methodological synthesis, embracing an expert-based qualitative approach based on a PEST-SWOT and causal layered analysis to draw the critical success factors of a next-generation business system for an automotive company in South Korea. The derived CSF dimensions and sub-criteria are evaluated by the multi-criteria decision-making model, engaging a strategy-as-practice lens to SISP to enable an integrative analysis of IS strategy formulation, planning, and implementation. The findings reveal the relative strategic priorities of dimensions, the following core activities, and the global priorities for resource distribution planning for IS strategy of the firm. This paper argues that bringing replicability with SISP and diversifying methodological approaches within the organization is substantial. This paper also suggests that future researchers validate the suggested framework for scientific replicability and expand the SISP research stream within the entire IS/IT ecosystem.

Background: Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) has revolutionized the operations, technologies, logistics and supply chain. To align with industry 4.0, the conventional logistics processes need to upgrade into digital logistics (logistics 4.0). This study aims to analyse the critical success factors of logistics 4.0. Methods: To accomplish this objective a comprehensive literature review is conducted for the identification of the critical success factors of logistics 4.0 with the expert’s input. These critical success factors are interrelated, and this interrelationship is explored through the DEMATEL approach. The applied methodology is categorised the critical success factors into cause-and-effect groups. Six factors belong to the cause group and the remaining four belong to the effect group. Results: The ‘top management commitment and support’, ‘aligning the initiatives of logistic 4.0 with organizational strategy’ and ‘technological infrastructure’ are the most influential critical success factors. This analysis also recognized the most influential and influenced factor amongst all identified critical success factors that will help the practitioners to optimal utilization of the resources. Conclusions: The findings of the study support the managers and practitioners in strategizing their effort for logistics 4.0 adoption.

There is an ample amount of studies attempting to evaluate the success of recovery projects. However, they mostly focused on unilateral success indicators and ignored the continual lifespan and various stakeholders. This study has focused on addressing these obstacles by proposing a comprehensive success evaluation framework for recovery projects following socio-natural disasters through identifying the success dimensions and their effectual parameters. Triangulation of the results of quantitative and qualitative methods and the logic of qualitative comparative analysis were used to answer the research questions. System thinking and the concept of resiliency and sustainability, known as key performance indicators, structured the success measurements. The effectual elements on the success, critical success factors, were grouped according to the continuous life-cycle of these projects. Finally, the framework for success evaluation of socio-natural disaster recovery projects illustrates interactions among the deducted critical success factors and key performance indicators. The proposed framework may serve as more efficient guidelines to set and follow the recovery goals, comprehensively considering a wide range of stakeholders and long-term recovery. The results of this study can be subject to further research by using different methods to enhance the comprehensivity of the framework. The authors will conduct further research to verify the suggested framework by implementing case studies.

Drug counterfeits have been an international issue for almost two decades, and the latest statistics show that fake medications will continue to penetrate legitimate pharmaceutical supply chains (PSCs). Therefore, identifying the issues faced by PSCs is essential to combat the counterfeit drug problem, which will require the implementation of technologies in various phases of the PSC to gain better visibility. In this regard, a literature review was conducted to fulfill the following objectives: (i) review the application of traceability technologies in various PSC phases to detect counterfeits; (ii) analyze the various barriers affecting the establishment of a safe PSC and the critical success factors used to overcome those barriers; and (iii) develop a conceptual framework and guidelines to demonstrate the influence of traceability technologies and success factors on overcoming the various barriers in different phases of the PSC. The major finding of this review was that traceability technologies and the critical success factors have a significant influence on overcoming the barriers to establishing a safe PSC.

The architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry has seen a significant rise in the adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the last few years. BIM software have launched with numerous robust capabilities and features to satisfy the ever-demanding needs of the AEC industry. Various factors are associated with the selection of BIM software depending on a company’s requirements and constraints. BIM software selection is a daunting process as most AEC industries are unaware of the factors to consider when making this important decision. This study focuses on identifying the critical success factors (CSFs) and their interrelationship for efficient BIM software selection. For this research, a questionnaire was developed and disseminated in two stages in India, the United States of America (U.S.A.), Germany, and the United Kingdom (U.K.). In the first stage, a total of twenty-six identified CSFs were analyzed with the factor comparison method (FCM) to identify the top fifteen CSFs. Subsequently, the identified top fifteen CSFs were further assessed by implementing Fuzzy DEMATEL to categorize them into cause-and-effect groups based on respective influence strength, depicted with a causal diagram. Out of fifteen CSFs, five and ten factors were grouped into the cause group and effect group for BIM software selection, respectively. The most important factors were identified as software functionality, BIM adoption strategies and processes, interoperability, staff competencies, BIM standards and regional regulations. The outcome of this research can help BIM user companies improve their BIM software selection framework and decision-making process during purchasing software.

Public–private partnership (PPP) has been widely applied in China and many developing countries in the recent decade. As new PPP projects gradually enter the operational phase, the issue of refinancing becomes increasingly important. PPP–ABS plays an indispensable role in PPP project refinancing. The factors that promote the success of the emerging PPP–ABS in the China financial market need to be determined. To accomplish two objectives, namely, to identify critical success factors (CSFs) and to explore the relationship between these factors and the success of the PPP asset-backed securitization (PPP–ABS) of this research, methods such as a questionnaire survey and structural equation modeling (SEM) were conducted successively. Four success factors, including underlying asset quality (UAQ), original equity holder credit (OEHC), rationality of security design (RoSD) and maturity of relative institutions (MoRI), were identified in this study. Consequently, nineteen theoretical hypotheses were developed and tested. It is shown in the SEM approach that UAQ and OEHC positively influence the success of PPP–ABS, alongside issuance characteristics (IC) that mediate the relationship between the success of PPP–ABS and UAQ, RoSD and MoRI, respectively. This finding increased knowledge of PPP–ABS and how investors and government can benefit from it.

Construction activities taken place in ecologically fragile regions (EFRs) of China are facing a series of environmental obstacles. Studying critical success factors (CSFs) to arrive at the sustainable objectives for construction project in EFRs is needed. Understanding the interrelationships of these CSFs is one of the vital ways to achieve this. This paper identifies and analyzes 18 CSFs for construction projects in EFRs through a literature review from a multi-perspective and a case study of Korla City in China. The causal relationship between each CSF is obtained by pairwise comparisons and thereafter, an ISM (Interpretative Structural Modeling) method is employed to study the hierarchical structuring of the CSFs. As a result, we established a five-level ISM. Subsequently, an MICMAC (cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification) approach is implemented to partition and classify each CSF into four quadrants (independent, linkage, autonomous, and dependent) according to their driver and dependence powers. Through the implementation of an MICMAC approach, the degrees of relationship between each CSF is gained. The findings reveal that the studied 18 CSFs have a strong hierarchy and interrelationship. The project manager’s leadership style and economic viability are the root source of project success and has the highest influence, which is supported by the result of MICMAC analysis. CSF planning and implementation of sustainable strategies are more dependent and are influenced by others. The CSFs on the top level of ISM: conflict resolution, planning and implementation of sustainable strategies and resources of water play a significant role in arriving at the project success, and has a great potential for future study. The approaches implemented in this paper can be helpful for decision-makers and managers of construction projects in comprehending the interrelationships and the degrees of CSFs for construction projects in EFRs and for efficiently achieving the project success.

The objective of this research is to develop a methodology that allows the construction of a standard of knowledge management and technological innovation applicable to the field of the universities in Mexico, the use of which results in better use of their resources and the improvement of their productivity. The analysis is carried out based on the systematic integration of the knowledge management and innovation models published in recent years, as well as the results of the experiences that propose standards for knowledge management and innovation. The results found are that knowledge management favors and facilitates innovation in organizations and allows them to offer better products and services. These findings are with the application of a methodology and an instrument to measure the maturity of the organizational structure. The application of the evaluation instrument was applied in a single organization. However, it can be considered a case study that empirically contributes to the state of the art of knowledge management. Organizations need to become aware of the high value of the knowledge and experience in various fields of the people who participate in them. It has been observed that the participation of experts facilitates the achievement of organizational objectives and favors knowledge management and innovation. This study provided information and experiences of an administrative nature to a higher education institution, which allowed an improvement in strategic decision-making, the promotion of technological developments, and the improvement of internal processes that lead to greater effectiveness of the academic and research processes.

Construction is a hazardous industry. The project-based nature and fragmentation in the industry lead to change and uncertainty requiring special expertise. To handle those, construction firms must develop strategies and action plans along with the experience gained from lessons learned. Among the risks, safety risks are of critical importance leading to accidents. Hence, firms need to strengthen their safety programs, review their strategies for safety management, and develop effective safety training sessions to protect their workers. This study focuses on the success factors promoting safety performance. In this respect, a questionnaire was designed and administered to the Engineering News-Record (ENR) 2020 Top 400 Contractors. The questionnaire data was utilized in conducting a factor analysis to group and name the factors considering the total variance. The analysis of the factors resulted in six-factor groups; namely, project and firm-related factors, demographic factors, practical factors, motivational factors, organizational factors, and human-related factors. Project and firm-related factors were found to be the most essential factor group in terms of promoting the effectiveness of safety training. The results of this study are expected to guide industry practitioners in terms of reviewing and revising their safety training programs.

Cloud Computing has become a valuable platform for sustainability in many countries. This study evaluates the cloud computing implementation and its Critical Success Factors (CSFs) towards ensuring sustainable construction projects in Nigeria. Data were collected from previous literature, supplemented by a quantitative approach via a questionnaire survey. Data were collected from 104 construction professionals while cloud computing CSFs were examined using Relative Importance Ranking (RII) and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The results show that cloud computing’s awareness level is 96.2%, which means that the respondents are aware of cloud computing concept. Furthermore, the result shows that most of the respondents are adopting the concept. The analysis of the CSFs indicated that reliable data storage, performance as well as cost of accessibility and availability were the four most significant CSFs to cloud computing applications. Analysis of the CSFs through EFA generated four main components which include human satisfaction, organization, client’s acceptance, and industry-based. Consequently, this study contributed to existing body of knowledge by highlighting the cloud computing CSFs for achieving sustainable construction project. As such, the results could be a game-changer in the construction industry—not only in Nigeria but also in developing nations where construction projects are implemented through similar style and procedure. This study would be a benchmark for supporting decision-makers to improve data fragmentation, in which the use of data is paramount to the execution of construction works. Finally, the results of this study would be useful for enhancing sustainability and general management of construction projects through cloud computing implementation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, educational institutions were shut down all over the world, which impacted over 60% of students and caused a massive disruption of the education system. The goal of this paper was to identify the critical success factors for E-learning during COVID-19 using the multi-criteria Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) techniques to enhance the educational process. Data were generated by interviewing 69 E-learning managers in educational institutions during COVID-19 based on defined evaluation criteria and E-learning approaches through several channels. We found that technology management, support from management, increased student awareness to use E-learning systems, and demanding a high level of information technology from instructors, students, and universities were the most influential factors for E-learning during COVID-19. Among the five learning systems, blended learning was the most suitable learning system to practice. These results demonstrated that, regardless of how extraordinary the technology is in an educational institution, the readiness of E-learning execution played a large role in boosting the educational process during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knowledge about critical success factors underpinning beneficial treatment outcomes in psychosomatic inpatient rehabilitation is scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of patients' epistemic stance in relation to the improvement of psychological distress during rehabilitation. In this naturalistic longitudinal observational study, n = 771 patients completed routine assessments for psychological distress (BSI-18), health-related quality of life (HRQOL; WHODAS), and epistemic trust (ETMCQ) before (T1) and after (T2) psychosomatic rehabilitation. Patients were grouped as best, average, and worst responders based on their mean BSI-18 changes during treatment, and their mean change in epistemic trust, mistrust, and credulity was compared using repeated measures analyses of variance (rANOVAs). No associations of performance with sex ( p = 0.09), age ( p = 0.11), or relationship status ( p = 0.58) were found. Best responders reported significantly improved epistemic trust ( p = 0.001) and reduced epistemic mistrust ( p < 0.001), whereas worst responders reported a significant increase in epistemic mistrust ( p < 0.001) and credulity ( p < 0.001). Average responders did not change for either epistemic trust ( p = 0.11), mistrust ( p > 0.99), or credulity ( p = 0.96). Our results underscore the role of the epistemic stance in psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic treatments. These results help to better understand what might determine psychosomatic rehabilitation outcomes and indicate the role of epistemic trust as a critical success factor.

The aim of this study is to explore the critical success factors (CSFs) of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Saudi Arabia. A questionnaire was developed using 28 factors/indicators identified from the previous researches. From 500 respondents, a total of 347 questionnaires were returned. By conducting exploratory factors analysis, these indicators were categorized into six factors, namely: Individual factors, business characteristics, management factors, business support, capital availability and business environment. Using IBM SPSS and AMOS, the results indicated that business support was the most critical factor that significantly affects the success of SMEs in Saudi Arabia, followed by individual factors, capital availability, and management factors. They also indicated that business characteristics and business environment factors had no significant impacts on the success of these enterprises.

Previous research works on the integration of e-Procurement technologies in the construction process in Nigeria showed that it has been slow and low. However, there are few empirical studies on the duration for which it has permeated the construction industry, the actual proponents and the metrics that can engender successful integration of e-Procurement technologies, applications, and tools in the construction procurement process, especially in a developing country like Nigeria. The study was aimed at evaluating the critical success factors (CSFs) for e-Procurement adoption in the Nigerian construction industry. The study was carried out in the six geo-political zones in Nigeria using a survey research design. Construction stakeholders were selected using purposive and random sampling techniques. A total of 1092 questionnaires were retrieved in this study, but the data of 759 actual users of e-Procurement systems were analyzed in this study using descriptive statistics and principal component analysis (PCA). An assessment of the duration users have been participating in the e-Procurement environment revealed that most Quantity Surveyors have been exposed to the use of e-Procurement technologies for over 10 years. A large proportion of the construction stakeholders picked up the use of the technology within the last 5 years. Further analysis showed that contracting firms have the largest participation in the use of e-Procurement systems. The study also revealed that construction stakeholders perceived the availability of reliable, affordable, and fast Internet services as the most critical success factor for the adoption of e-Procurement technologies. The critical success factors (CSFs) were further classified into management support for physical infrastructure, and human factors and characteristics of the technology. The study showed that these critical success factors (CSFs) are crucial for the adoption of e-Procurement systems in the Nigerian construction industry. The study recommended that there is still a need for increased awareness of the e-Procurement tools and technologies and the benefits that are accrued from their use among public sector construction participants. This will in turn influence the provision of the required information and communication technology (ICT) physical infrastructure and formulation of appropriate policies and standards for successful e-Procurement integration in the Nigerian construction industry.

This paper investigates the inter-organizational Critical Success Factors for coopetition in oil and gas distribution networks. Based on an extensive review of literature, 17 Critical Success Factors were identified and analyzed in the context of oil and gas distribution industry. We concluded that Trust, Outcomes, Outcomes distribution and Tension have the greatest impact on coopetition success within business networks, while Congruence, Governance, Inter-dependence and Equity, even though significant, have the lowest impact. The study contributes to the development of literature concerning Critical Success Factors in business networks by presenting an inter-organizational perspective, by providing a ranking of them, and by discussing the implications for oil and gas distribution companies.

The present study aimed to compare changes during inpatient rehabilitation between conservatively and surgically treated patients. A total of n = 162 patients with cervical spine complaints were included in the study ( n = 107 conservatively treated, n = 55 after surgery). Patients completed disease-specific (NDI) and generic (NPRS, EQ-5D-5L, HAQ) patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) before and after rehabilitation. In addition, the range of motion (ROM) in the transversal plane of the cervical spine was measured. Changes and correlations between PROMs and ROM values during rehabilitation were assessed. The influence of moderating factors on NDI outcomes was examined. Significant improvements with large effect sizes were found in PROMs and ROM (all p < 0.001). The conservatively treated patients showed significantly greater NDI improvements than operated patients ( p = 0.050), but a greater proportion of poor performance in ROM ( p = 0.035). Baseline NDI (β = 0.66), HAQ (β = 0.14), and ROM scores (β = -0.17) explained 63.7% of the variance in NDI after rehabilitation. Both patient groups showed different outcomes. The findings of this study indicate that the unique needs of patients may require different therapeutic interventions and highlight the importance of using multidimensional outcome measures when implementing a multimodal rehabilitation approach.

Since the beginning of modern project management in the 1960s, academic researchers have sought to identify a definitive list of Critical Success Factors (CSFs), the key things that project managers must get right in order to deliver a successful product. With the advent of Information Technology (IT) projects and, more recently, projects to deliver Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, attention has turned to identifying definitive lists of CSFs for these more specific project types. The purpose of this paper is to take stock of this research effort by examining how thinking about each type of project has evolved over time, before producing a consolidated list of CSFs for each as a basis for comparison. This process reveals a high degree of similarity, leading to the conclusion that the goal of identifying a generic list of CSFs for project management has been achieved. Therefore, rather than continuing to describe lists of CSFs, researchers could increase the value of their contribution by taking a step forward and focusing on why, despite this apparent knowledge of how to ensure their success, ERP projects continue to fail.
