A comprehensive review of recent research on niosomes was conducted using a mixed methodology, including searches in databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science (WoS). Articles were selected based on relevance. The current review examines the historical development of niosomes focusing on the methods of preparations and the contemporary strategies and prospective advancements within the realm of drug delivery systems, highlighting innovative approaches across transdermal, oral, and cellular delivery. This review reported the method of niosomes preparations including a new and novel approach for the preparation of niosomes known as the ball milling method (BM). This technique allows for the precise manipulation of size and shape, leading to improvements in drug release, encapsulation efficiency, and uniformity compared to traditional methods. Niosomes can serve as carriers for delivering various types of drugs, including hydrophobic, hydrophilic, and amphiphilic. This improves the efficiency of encapsulating different drugs, the size of targeted particles, and the desired zeta potential. This is achieved by using a specific charge-inducing agent for drug delivery and targeting specific diseases. These efforts are crucial for overcoming the current limitations and unlocking the full therapeutic potential of modern medicine.

Numerous sources report that patients belonging to sexual or gender minority (SGM) groups often do not receive proper healthcare services due to negative attitudes from healthcare providers, including nurses. This literature review aims to explore the gaps in the existing curriculum and educational preparedness, including ehealth and mhealth trainings and how such educational preparedness affects the attitudes of nurses toward SGM groups. The search strategy included the electronic databases CINHAL, PubMed, Medline, EBSCO, and ProQuest. After reviewing and removing duplicates and irrelevant studies, 21 articles were selected to be included in this literature review. The findings of this research indicate that the provision of educational resources, including ehealth and mhealth trainings, falls short of meeting the requirements of caring for a patient who identifies with a sexual and gender minority (SGM) group. Consequently, nurses feel less confident and prepared to provide care in such situations, resulting in low comfort levels and readiness. It also reveals the nurses’ attitudes towards SGM patients affected by the lack of preparation. Key educational interventions, including targeted seminars and online modules, are recommended to enhance nurse preparedness. Implementing these interventions can foster improved attitudes and cultural competence in healthcare settings.

Effective management of labour pain is an essential aspect of care provided to women during childbirth. The aim of this study was to assess pregnant women’s knowledge of using non-pharmacological pain relief methods during childbirth. Methods: This quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at four hospitals in the Tshwane District of South Africa. The sample consisted of 384 pregnant women. Results: The results show that (n = 200, 52.1%) pregnant women lack knowledge regarding non-pharmacological pain relief methods, while a minority (n = 101, 26.3%) had some knowledge, some (n = 73, 19%) were uncertain about these methods and others (n = 10, 2.6%) did not comment. Additionally, most respondents (n = 232, 60%) never received education about the various methods available to manage pain during labour at antenatal care, while others (n = 131, 34%) agreed that they received such education. A significant relationship between the level of education and knowledge about non-pharmacological pain relief methods was noted (p = 0.0082). In conclusion, respondents knew methods such as massage, breathing exercises, movements and birth positions. However, they lacked knowledge of birth companionship, acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), aromatherapy and music. The overall findings revealed that antenatal care services provided by midwives are not effectively preparing pregnant women for pain relief during childbirth.

In this study, a new oleogel system was constructed and used as a fat substitute in the processing of cookies. The preparation process of Amomum villosum Lour. extract (AVE) was optimized based on antioxidant activity and yield firstly. Then, the AVE, ovalbumin, chitosan, and xanthan gum were used as raw materials to prepare a composite Pickering emulsion oleogel. The results showed that when the concentration of AVE, chitosan, and XG were 0.1%, 2.5%, and 0.3%, respectively, a stable and uniformly distributed Pickering emulsion oleogel was formed. In this case, the particle size of the composite oleogel was relatively small; the absolute value of zeta potential was higher; the microstructure was more stable, with less aggregation and flocculation; and the thermal stability and freeze–thaw stability were excellent. In addition, the addition of AVE enhanced the gel properties of the oleogel and had good solid-like properties, and strengthened the binding force, as well as the oxidation stability, making the whole system more stable. In addition, the results of the application of the composite oleogel in the cookies showed that the AVE–ovalbumin/xanthan gum/chitosan Pickering emulsion oleogel had similar sensory and texture properties to the butter group. The addition of AVE can delay the crispness, cohesiveness, hardness, and the rate of malondialdehyde formation in cookies during storage. In conclusion, the AVE–ovalbumin/xanthan gum/chitosan Pickering emulsion oleogel had good physicochemical stability and showed great potential in replacing saturated fat (butter) in baking products (cookies).

Collagen is the oldest and most abundant extracellular matrix protein and has many applications in biomedical, food, cosmetic, and other industries. Previous reviews have already introduced collagen’s sources, structures, and biosynthesis. The biological and mechanical properties of collagen-based composite materials, their modification and application forms, and their interactions with host tissues are pinpointed. It is worth noting that self-assembly behavior is the main characteristic of collagen molecules. However, there is currently relatively little review on collagen-based composite materials based on self-assembly. Herein, we briefly reviewed the biosynthesis, extraction, structure, and properties of collagen, systematically presented an overview of the various factors and corresponding characterization techniques that affect the collagen self-assembly process, and summarize and discuss the preparation methods and application progress of collagen-based composite materials in different fields. By combining the self-assembly behavior of collagen with preparation methods of collagen-based composite materials, collagen-based composite materials with various functional reactions can be selectively prepared, and these experiences and outcomes can provide inspiration and practical techniques for the future development directions and challenges of collagen-based composite biomaterials in related applications fields.

Since its discovery, the phenomenon of Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has gradually become an important tool for analyzing the composition and structure of substances. As a trace technique that can efficiently and nondestructively detect single molecules, the application of SERS has expanded from environmental and materials science to biomedical fields. In the past decade or so, the explosive development of nanotechnology and nanomaterials has further boosted the research of SERS technology, as nanomaterial-based SERS substrates have shown good signal enhancement properties. So far, it is widely recognized that the morphology, size, composition, and stacking mode of nanomaterials have a very great influence on the strength of the substrate SERS effect. Herein, an overview of methods for the preparation of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates is provided. Specifically, this review describes a variety of common SERS substrate preparation methods and explores the potential and promise of these methods for applications in chemical analysis and biomedical fields. By detailing the influence of different nanomaterials (e.g., metallic nanoparticles, nanowires, and nanostars) and their structural features on the SERS effect, this article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of SERS substrate preparation techniques.

Nanoemulsions (NEs) are submicron-sized heterogeneous biphasic liquid systems stabilized by surfactants. They are physically transparent or translucent, optically isotropic, and kinetically stable, with droplet sizes ranging from 20 to 500 nm. Their unique properties, such as high surface area, small droplet size, enhanced bioavailability, excellent physical stability, and rapid digestibility, make them ideal for encapsulating various active substances. This review focuses on recent advancements, future prospects, and challenges in the field of NEs, particularly in oral, parenteral, and ophthalmic delivery. It also discusses recent clinical trials and patents. Different types of in vitro and in vivo NE characterization techniques are summarized. High-energy and low-energy preparation methods are briefly described with diagrams. Formulation considerations and commonly used excipients for oral, ocular, and ophthalmic drug delivery are presented. The review emphasizes the need for new functional excipients to improve the permeation of large molecular weight unstable proteins, oligonucleotides, and hydrophilic drugs to advance drug delivery rapidly.

The hybrid flocculant P(aluminum chloride-co-diallyldimethylammonium chloride) was synthesized in this study. Diallyldimethylammonium chloride monomers were used and ammonium persulfate served as the initiator. The structure of P(aluminum chloride-co-diallyldimethylammonium chloride) was characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, an electrical conductivity test, and thermogravimetric analysis. Single-factor experiments were conducted to optimize the synthetic conditions of the hybrid flocculant. An optimized product with an intrinsic viscosity of 926.36 mL/g and a flocculation decolorization rate of 99% was obtained under the following reaction conditions: the total monomer concentration was 30%, the initiator concentration was 0.7%, the reaction temperature was 60 °C, and the reaction time was 3 h. The results demonstrated that the PAC-PDMDAAC hybrid flocculant exhibited covalent bonding between its organic–inorganic components and displayed enhanced stability properties due to its high intrinsic viscosity and spatial structure. Moreover, this hybrid flocculant showed superior decolorization performance in disperse-violet-H-FRL-dye wastewater.

With the development of microfluidics, there are increasing reports of syntheses using not only conventional laminar flow at the microscale, but also the dissociation and aggregation of microdroplets. It is known, to some extent, that the microfluidics scale differs from normal scales in terms of the specific surface area, mass diffusion, and heat conduction; these are opposite to those in scale-up in-plant chemical engineering. However, it is not easy to determine what changes when the microdroplet flows through the channel. In this context, the author would like to clarify how the behavior of chemical species, which is expected to appear unique at the nanoscale, contributes to chemical reactions. What do we need in order to develop a completely new theory of chemical reactions? The characteristics of chemical reactions on the nanoscale are clarified via the encountering of solutions by the microfluidic device itself, or the chemical reaction of nanoscale droplets generated by the microfluidic device. Specifically, in recent years, experimental reports have accumulated that are expected to develop a fluidic device that can stably generate nanodroplets, and complex reactions of different reactivity are expected to occur that are specific to the nanoscale. In this short article, microfluidic devices, nanoscale droplets, experimental synthetic examples, and findings that may provide solutions are described.

In this study, novel functional ZEO-complex gels were prepared using sodium alginate, inulin, grape seed extract (GSE), and Zanthoxylum bungeanum essential oil (ZEO) as the primary raw materials. The effect of the addition of inulin, GSE, and ZEO on water vapor permeability (WVP), tensile strength (TS), and elongation at break (EAB) of ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels was investigated. A comprehensive score (Y) for evaluating the characteristics of ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels was established by principal component analysis. MATLAB analysis and box-Behnken design describe each factor’s four-dimensional and three-dimensional interactions. It was found that Y could reach the maximum value when the ZEO addition was at a moderate level (C = 2%). The optimum preparation process of ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels was as follows: the addition of inulin was at 0.84%, the addition of GSE was at 0.04%, and the addition of ZEO was at 2.0785%; in this way, the Y of ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels reached the maximum (0.82276). Optical scanning and X-ray diffraction tests confirmed that the prepared ZEO-complex gels have a smooth and continuous microstructure, good water insulation, and mechanical properties. The storage test results show that ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels could play a significant role in the storage and fresh-keeping of grass carp, and the physicochemical properties of complex polysaccharide gels were improved by adding ZEO. In addition, according to the correlation of fish index changes during storage, adding ZEO in complex polysaccharide gels was closely correlated with the changes in fish TBARS and TVB-N oxidation decay indices. In conclusion, the ZEO-complex polysaccharide gels prepared in this study had excellent water insulation, mechanical properties, and outstanding fresh-keeping effects on grass carp.

The development of antimicrobial food packaging is a very important and current goal, but it still difficult to implement in practice. Reducing microbial contamination and preserving food quality are very important tasks for food manufacturers as the use of antimicrobial packaging can preserve the health of consumers. On the other hand, the difficulty of degrading packaging materials, leading to environmental pollution, is also an important problem. These problems can be solved by using biodegradable biopolymers and antimicrobial agents in the production of food packaging. Very suitable antimicrobial agents are grape seed and skin extracts as they have high antioxidant and antimicrobial capacity and are obtained from grape pomace, a waste product of winemaking. The present review presents the valuable bioactive compounds contained in grape seeds and skins, the methods used to obtain the extracts, and their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Then, the application of grape seed and skin extracts for the production of antimicrobial packaging is reviewed. Emphasis is placed on antimicrobial packaging based on various biopolymers. Special attention is also paid to the application of the extract of grape skins to obtain intelligent indicator packages for the continuous monitoring of the freshness and quality of foods. The focus is mainly placed on the antimicrobial properties of the packaging against different types of microorganisms and their applications for food packaging. The presented data prove the good potential of grape seed and skin extracts to be used as active agents in the preparation of antimicrobial food packaging.

Due to a wide band gap and large exciton binding energy, zinc oxide (ZnO) is currently receiving much attention in various areas, and can be prepared in various forms including nanorods, nanowires, nanoflowers, and so on. The reliability of ZnO produced by a single dopant is unstable, which in turn promotes the development of co-doping techniques. Co-doping is a very promising technique to effectively modulate the optical, electrical, magnetic, and photocatalytic properties of ZnO, as well as the ability to form various structures. In this paper, the important advances in co-doped ZnO nanomaterials are summarized, as well as the preparation of co-doped ZnO nanomaterials by using different methods, including hydrothermal, solvothermal, sol-gel, and acoustic chemistry. In addition, the wide range of applications of co-doped ZnO nanomaterials in photocatalysis, solar cells, gas sensors, and biomedicine are discussed. Finally, the challenges and future prospects in the field of co-doped ZnO nanomaterials are also elucidated.

Edaravone is one of two main drugs for treating motor neurone disease (MND). This review proposes a specific quality target product profile (QTPP) for edaravone following an appraisal of the issues accounting for the poor clinical uptake of the approved IV and oral liquid edaravone formulations. This is followed by a review of the alternative oral formulations of edaravone described in the published patent and journal literature against the QTPP. A total of 14 texts published by six research groups on 18 novel oral formulations of edaravone for the treatment of MND have been reviewed. The alternative oral formulations included liquid and solid formulations developed with cyclodextrins, lipids, surfactants, co-surfactants, alkalising agents, tablet excipients, and co-solvents. Most were intended to deliver edaravone for drug absorption in the lower gastrointestinal tract (GIT); however, there were also four formulations targeting the oral mucosal absorption of edaravone to avoid first-pass metabolism. All the novel formulations improved the aqueous solubility, stability, and oral bioavailability (BA) of edaravone compared to an aqueous suspension of edaravone. A common limitation of the published formulations is the lack of MND-patient-centred data. Except for TW001, no other formulations have been trialled in MND patients. To meet the QTPP of an oral edaravone formulation for MND patients, it is recommended that a tablet of appropriate size and with acceptable taste and stability be designed for the effective sublingual or buccal absorption of edaravone. This tablet should be designed with input from the MND community.

The role of parental factors in the emergence of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) following pediatric surgeries is well recognized, but the specific influence of parents’ subjective preparedness for their child’s surgery has not been explored. In a study involving 253 children hospitalized in a pediatric surgery ward, parents completed a demographic questionnaire during their child’s stay, which included the question, “As a parent, have you been prepared for the surgical intervention your child is undergoing?” Four months post-surgery, the same parents were interviewed using two questionnaires that evaluated their children’s post-traumatic symptoms. Our findings indicate that in emergency surgical settings, children whose parents felt prepared experienced significantly fewer PTSSs compared to children whose parents did not feel prepared. In contrast, for elective surgeries, parental subjective perception of preparedness did not significantly impact the children’s PTSSs. We conclude that for emergency surgical procedures, addressing parents’ subjective preparedness could be crucial. Further research is necessary to develop targeted interventions that leverage this insight to minimize the risk of PTSSs in children undergoing emergency surgeries.

The discovery of antibiotics and pesticides has greatly contributed to the social and economic development of human society but, due to the long-term irrational application, it has led to drug-resistant microorganisms, environmental damage, and other hazards, so the selection of alternative natural, safe, and non-hazardous bioactive substances is an effective solution for this problem. D-limonene is a bioactive compound widely present in various plant essential oils, exhibiting excellent broad-spectrum bioactivity and promising prospects for development and clinical application. This review provides a detailed overview of the biological activities of D-limonene, emphasizing its antimicrobial, anthelmintic, insecticidal, and medicinal potential. While nanoencapsulation technology shows promise in improving the physicochemical properties of D-limonene and enhancing its practical applications, it is also crucial to comprehensively evaluate the potential side effects of D-limonene before use.

Due to environmental pollution and global warming, the use of renewable energy sources such as agricultural residues is gaining attention. Corn is the main source of food in many countries, and after harvesting it, the agricultural and industrial sectors generate significant amounts of residues. This study focused on corncob processing, its preparation, and the evaluation of its characteristics for energy needs. There was no significant difference between drying with active ventilation in the dryer and outdoor drying conditions. The adequate moisture content of corncob pellets is 12.39% at a compression ratio of 3.43 ± 0.011 and a maximum pellet density of 1012.96 ± 3.35 kg m−3. The variation in pellet density at a given adequate moisture content is at least 0.78%. The compression ratio of the pellets compacted on the horizontal matrix granulator is 9.75% higher than that of the pellets produced on the laboratory automatic press. The corncob’s lower calorific value was 17.35 ± 0.14 MJ kg−1, and the ash content was 1.78 ± 0.24%. The produced pellets are strong enough and can be used for combustion. This research may help to better understand the properties of corncobs and their energy potential.

In recent years, various new types of magnetic materials have emerged, especially in the field of nanotechnology. The application of material composite technology has formed a new type of dual-phase composite magnetic material. Under the control of an external magnetic field, the material can achieve functional conversion between the hard magnetic phase and the soft magnetic phase, with magnetic permeability, non-magnetic permeability, and excitation ability. In this paper, it is proposed to use this material as the basic material for the magnetic state control of the reactor core, break through the bondage of the traditional reactor core to the performance of the controllable reactor, and innovatively form a new type of reactor structure. By adding a detection and control system, according to the working state of the power grid, the function conversion of the nano adjustable magnetic material is effectively adjusted to realize the automatic adjustment of the magnetic state of the reactor. Firstly, the preparation and material properties of dual-phase composite magnetic materials were studied. The design and preparation process from magnetic powder to bulk magnet were given, and the magnetic properties were measured. Secondly, a new 380 V/100 kVar magnetically controlled reactor was designed by using dual-phase composite magnetic material to form a composite core of magnetically controlled reactor on silicon steel sheet. The simulation analysis of electromagnetic characteristics and volt-ampere characteristics was carried out to verify the correctness of the proposed scheme.

Carbon quantum dots are a novel form of carbon material. They offer numerous benefits including particle size adjustability, light resistance, ease of functionalization, low toxicity, excellent biocompatibility, and high-water solubility, as well as their easy accessibility of raw materials. Carbon quantum dots have been widely used in various fields. The preparation methods employed are predominantly top-down methods such as arc discharge, laser ablation, electrochemical and chemical oxidation, as well as bottom-up methods such as templates, microwave, and hydrothermal techniques. This article provides an overview of the properties, preparation methods, raw materials for preparation, and the heteroatom doping of carbon quantum dots, and it summarizes the applications in related fields, such as optoelectronics, bioimaging, drug delivery, cancer therapy, sensors, and environmental remediation. Finally, currently encountered issues of carbon quantum dots are presented. The latest research progress in synthesis and application, as well as the challenges outlined in this review, can help and encourage future research on carbon quantum dots.

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the composition, characterization and antioxidant activity of rice bran fermentation broth, and provide a new way for high-value utilization of rice bran. Firstly, we fermented rice bran with Hypsizigus marmoreus and purified fermentation broth with macroporous resins. We took feruloyl oligosaccharides (FOs) concentration as the measure index, and the results showed that the maximum concentration of FOs was 0.72 mmol/L on the 6th day of rice bran fermentation. We took D101 macroporous resin as adsorption resin for rice bran fermentation broth, and the result showed that FOs concentration reached 2.38 mmol/L with the optimal purification process at pH 4.5, temperature 29 °C, ethanol concentration 55%, sample flow rate 1.5 mL/min, sample concentration 1.7 mL/min and elution flow rate 2.0 mmol/L. Secondly, the characters of rice bran fermentation broth were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). These methods showed the presence of ferulic acid (FA), arabinose, xylose and glucose in rice bran fermentation broth. Finally, the in vitro antioxidant activities of rice bran fermentation broth were tested and the result showed that fermentation broth had good antioxidant activities and significantly improved after purification.

Nanocapsule preparation technology, as an emerging technology with great development prospects, has uniqueness and superiority in various industries. In this paper, the preparation technology of nanocapsules was systematically divided into three categories: physical methods, chemical methods, and physicochemical methods. The technological innovation of different methods in recent years was reviewed, and the mechanisms of nanocapsules prepared via emulsion polymerization, interface polymerization, layer-by-layer self-assembly technology, nanoprecipitation, supercritical fluid, and nano spray drying was summarized in detail. Different from previous reviews, the renewal iteration of core–shell structural materials was highlighted, and relevant illustrations of their representative and latest research results were reviewed. With the continuous progress of nanocapsule technology, especially the continuous development of new wall materials and catalysts, new preparation technology, and new production equipment, nanocapsule technology will be used more widely in medicine, food, cosmetics, pesticides, petroleum products, and many other fields.

Since griseofulvin was marketed as a non-polyene antifungal antibiotic drug in 1958, its poor water solubility has been an issue for its wide applications, and over the last sixty years, many attempts have been made to increase its water solubility; however, a significant result has yet to be achieved. Through supercritical carbon dioxide-assisted cyclodextrin complexation with the addition of a trace amount of water-soluble polymer surfactant, the griseofulvin inclusion complex with HP-γ-cyclodextrin was prepared and confirmed. The 1:2 ratio of griseofulvin and HP-γ-cyclodextrin in the complex was determined based on its NMR study. After complexation with HP-γ-cyclodextrin, griseofulvin’s water solubility was increased 477 times compared with that of griseofulvin alone, which is the best result thus far. The complex showed 90% of griseofulvin release in vitro in 10 min, in an in vivo dog pharmacokinetic study; the Cmax was increased from 0.52 µg/mL to 0.72 µg/mL, AUC0–12 was increased from 1.55 μg·h/mL to 2.75 μg·h/mL, the clearance was changed from 51.78 L/kg/h to 24.16 L/kg/h, and the half-life time was changed from 0.81 h to 1.56 h, indicating the obtained griseofulvin complex can be a more effective drug than griseofulvin alone.

Liang (Gnetum gnemon var. tenerum) leaves are widely consumed as a green vegetable in Southern Thailand, and the plant is valued for its nutritional benefits. However, like other leafy greens, liang is vulnerable to microbial contamination, generating foodborne illnesses. This study examined the nutritional content and microbial load of liang leaves at different maturity stages and the effects of washing with chlorinated water. Various growth stages were analysed for proximate composition, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Results revealed distinct nutritional profiles, with tip leaves rich in protein and fat and intermediate leaves high in dietary fibre. Liang leaves are abundant in essential amino acids and proteins. Washing with chlorinated water increased leaf weight due to water retention but also caused physical damage, fostering microbial growth and spoilage. Microbiological analysis showed marginal reductions in total viable counts after washing with chlorinated water and significant decreases in coliform and Escherichia coli counts. However, stem detachment during washing increased the coliform and E. coli counts. Liang leaves exhibited favourable nutritional content, especially in the intermediate stage. Proper handling and storage of liang leaves are crucial to preventing physical damage and microbial contamination. Improved food safety measures, including appropriate post-harvest washing and handling of leafy vegetables, will ensure that consumers can safely enjoy the nutritional benefits of liang leaves.

Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is a natural macromolecule polysaccharide that is extensively distributed in a wide variety of organisms. CS is of great interest to researchers due to its many in vitro and in vivo functions. CS production derives from a diverse number of sources, including but not limited to extraction from various animals or fish, bio-synthesis, and fermentation, and its purity and homogeneity can vary greatly. The structural diversity of CS with respect to sulfation and saccharide content endows this molecule with distinct complexity, allowing for functional modification. These multiple functions contribute to the application of CS in medicines, biomaterials, and functional foods. In this article, we discuss the preparation of CS from different sources, the structure of various forms of CS, and its binding to other relevant molecules. Moreover, for the creation of this article, the functions and applications of CS were reviewed, with an emphasis on drug discovery, hydrogel formation, delivery systems, and food supplements. We conclude that analyzing some perspectives on structural modifications and preparation methods could potentially influence future applications of CS in medical and biomaterial research.

The cross-linking point of a conventional chemical cross-linking agent is fixed. Therefore, gels that are prepared with a conventional cross-linking agent have poor deformability, strength, shear resistance, and further properties. Some researchers have prepared a new cross-linking agent using cyclodextrin (CD). In a polyrotaxane cross-linking agent, the cross-linking points can slide freely along the molecule chain. The special “slide ring” structure can provide better elongation, strength, and other properties to gels, which can effectively expand the application of the gel’s materials. This paper summarizes the preparation methods and applications from different types of CD and compares the improvements of properties (swelling, viscoelastic properties, etc.). In addition, the current results of our group are presented, and some ideas are provided for the development of polyrotaxane cross-linking agents.

Traditional natural products in China have a long history and a vast pharmacological repertoire that has garnered significant attention due to their safety and efficacy in disease prevention and treatment. Among the bioactive components of traditional natural products in China, bioactive peptides (BPs) are specific protein fragments that have beneficial effects on human health. Despite many of the traditional natural products in China ingredients being rich in protein, BPs have not received sufficient attention as a critical factor influencing overall therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive summary of the current methodologies for the preparation, isolation, and identification of BPs from traditional natural products in China and to classify the functions of discovered BPs. Insights from this review are expected to facilitate the development of targeted drugs and functional foods derived from traditional natural products in China in the future.

Nano-sized ion exchangers (NIEs) combine the properties of common bulk ion-exchange polymers with the unique advantages of downsizing into nanoparticulate matter. In particular, being by nature milti-charged ions exchangers, NIEs possess high reactivity and stability in suspensions. This brief review provides an introduction to the emerging landscape of various NIE materials and summarizes their actual and potential applications. Special attention is paid to the different methods of NIE fabrication and studying their ion-exchange behavior. Critically discussed are different examples of using NIEs in chemical analysis, e.g., as solid-phase extraction materials, ion chromatography separating phases, modifiers for capillary electrophoresis, etc., and in industry (fuel cells, catalysis, water softening). Also brought into focus is the potential of NIEs for controlled drug and contrast agent delivery.

Lanthanide Metal–Organic Frameworks (LnMOFs), in recent years, have developed into an interesting subclass of MOFs. While the number of published papers, in particular, were dedicated to their synthesis and functional properties, along with the application mechanisms of MOFs, only a few of them have been focused on LnMOFs thin films independently. LnMOFs have become interesting thanks to their outstanding properties, for example, excellent structural flexibility, tunable pore size, surface area, functionality, and good chemical stability. Significant progress over the past two decades in the preparation of MOF films has been achieved, especially towards the development of green, or at least greener, synthesis approaches. We begin with insight into various types of MOFs and summarize recent achievements in the production of LnMOF films, along with various film preparation approaches. Afterward, we briefly discuss the applications of luminescence features of lanthanide ions in films and their potential as white-light source materials. We also covered films based on Eu, Tb, and Gd with particular accents on different design approaches. Moreover, specifically, luminescent features applied for sensing temperature, a variety of ions, gases, and biomolecules are highlighted. The review ends with a comprehensive conclusion about the state-of-art-potential of LnMOFs together with an outlook on the future of LnMOF films in future technologies.

Mushroom bioactive peptides (MBPs) are bioactive peptides extracted directly or indirectly from edible mushrooms. MBPs are known to have antioxidant, anti-aging, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-hypertensive properties, and facilitate memory and cognitive improvement, antitumour and anti-diabetes activities, and cholesterol reduction. MBPs exert antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects by regulating the MAPK, Keap1-Nrf2-ARE, NF-κB and TNF pathways. In addition, MBPs exert antibacterial, anti-tumour and anti-inflammatory effects by stimulating the proliferation of macrophages. The bioactivities of MBPs are closely related to their molecular weights, charge, amino acid compositions and amino acid sequences. Compared with animal-derived peptides, MBPs are ideal raw materials for healthy and functional products with the advantages of their abundance of resources, safety, low price, and easy-to-achieve large-scale production of valuable nutrients for health maintenance and disease prevention. In this review, the preparation, bioactivities, mechanisms and structure–activity relationships of MBPs were described. The main challenges and prospects of their application in functional products were also discussed. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive perspective of MBPs.

Herbal medicines have gained recognition among physicians and patients due to their lower adverse effects compared to modern medicines. They are extensively used to treat various diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular issues, chronic inflammation, microbial contamination, diabetes, obesity, and hepatic disorders, among others. Unfortunately, the clinical application of herbal medicines is limited by their low solubility and inadequate bioavailability. Utilizing herbal medicines in the form of nanocrystals (herbal medicine nanocrystals) has shown potential in enhancing solubility and bioavailability by reducing the particle size, increasing the specific surface area, and modifying the absorption mechanisms. Multiple studies have demonstrated that these nanocrystals significantly improve drug efficacy by reducing toxicity and increasing bioavailability. This review comprehensively examines therapeutic approaches based on herbal medicine nanocrystals. It covers the preparation principles, key factors influencing nucleation and polymorphism control, applications, and limitations. The review underscores the importance of optimizing delivery systems for successful herbal medicine nanocrystal therapeutics. Furthermore, it discusses the main challenges and opportunities in developing herbal medicine nanocrystals for the purpose of treating conditions such as cancer, inflammatory diseases, cardiovascular disorders, mental and nervous diseases, and antimicrobial infections. In conclusion, we have deliberated regarding the hurdles and forthcoming outlook in the realm of nanotoxicity, in vivo kinetics, herbal ingredients as stabilizers of nanocrystals, and the potential for surmounting drug resistance through the utilization of nanocrystalline formulations in herbal medicine. We anticipate that this review will offer innovative insights into the development of herbal medicine nanocrystals as a promising and novel therapeutic strategy.

Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) nanosheets have shown extensive applications due to their excellent physical and chemical properties. However, the low light absorption efficiency limits their application in optoelectronics. By rolling up 2D TMDCs nanosheets, the one-dimensional (1D) TMDCs nanoscrolls are formed with spiral tubular structure, tunable interlayer spacing, and opening ends. Due to the increased thickness of the scroll structure, the light absorption is enhanced. Meanwhile, the rapid electron transportation is confined along the 1D structure. Therefore, the TMDCs nanoscrolls show improved optoelectronic performance compared to 2D nanosheets. In addition, the high specific surface area and active edge site from the bending strain of the basal plane make them promising materials for catalytic reaction. Thus, the TMDCs nanoscrolls have attracted intensive attention in recent years. In this review, the structure of TMDCs nanoscrolls is first demonstrated and followed by various preparation methods of the TMDCs nanoscrolls. Afterwards, the applications of TMDCs nanoscrolls in the fields of photodetection, hydrogen evolution reaction, and gas sensing are discussed.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It is made from roasted and ground beans of the coffee plant. There are over 100 species of coffee plants, but only 2 are widely available: Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora. There are many different ways to prepare coffee. The most common method is to brew the coffee with hot water. However, there are also many other methods, such as those employed to produce cold brew, espresso, and Turkish coffee. The brewing method can affect the flavor of the coffee. The identification of coffee species, varieties, origins and processing and preparation methods is important for a number of reasons. First, it can help to ensure that coffee is of the highest quality. Second, it can help to track the origin of coffee, which can be important for marketing and sustainability purposes. Third, it can help to develop new coffee products and to improve the quality of coffee. There are a number of different methods that can be used to identify coffee species, varieties, origins, and processing and preparation methods. One method requires the use of molecular biology techniques. Molecular biology techniques can be used to identify the genetic markers that are unique to each species of coffee plant. Another method is chemical analysis. Chemical analyses, such as NMR or GC/MS, can be used to identify the hundreds of compounds that are present in coffee, which can be used to determine the origin and processing and preparation methods of the coffee. This introductory lecture will summarize the current state of the art in coffee identification techniques and introduce the audience to the following specialized talks.

Bionic flexible sensors are a new type of biosensor with high sensitivity, selectivity, stability, and reliability to achieve detection in complex natural and physiological environments. They provide efficient, energy-saving and convenient applications in medical monitoring and diagnosis, environmental monitoring, and detection and identification. Combining sensor devices with flexible substrates to imitate flexible structures in living organisms, thus enabling the detection of various physiological signals, has become a hot topic of interest. In the field of human health detection, the application of bionic flexible sensors is flourishing and will evolve into patient-centric diagnosis and treatment in the future of healthcare. In this review, we provide an up-to-date overview of bionic flexible devices for human health detection applications and a comprehensive summary of the research progress and potential of flexible sensors. First, we evaluate the working mechanisms of different classes of bionic flexible sensors, describing the selection and fabrication of bionic flexible materials and their excellent electrochemical properties; then, we introduce some interesting applications for monitoring physical, electrophysiological, chemical, and biological signals according to more segmented health fields (e.g., medical diagnosis, rehabilitation assistance, and sports monitoring). We conclude with a summary of the advantages of current results and the challenges and possible future developments.

Traditional liquid phase methods for growing single crystals are static growth methods, which include seed crystal sedimentation growth and seed crystal clamping growth using seed crystal holders. Single crystals grown via seed crystal sedimentation often have a flat and elongated shape, and the region in contact with the bottom of the container is restricted during growth, resulting in significant defects. Similarly, the seed crystal clamping growth method cannot avoid contact with external objects, leading to abnormal growth at the contact points and along the direction of the seed crystal holder, also resulting in certain defects. Both of these growth methods require processes, such as cutting and grinding, to remove defects, resulting in resource waste. To address the shortcomings of the static liquid phase single-crystal preparation mentioned above, this study successfully designed a dynamic liquid phase method for single crystal growth, which achieved the successful suspension of seed crystals in the mother solution and the growth of high-quality, large-sized single crystals, avoiding contact with the walls and the bottom of the container during the crystal growth process. Based on the dynamic liquid phase single crystal growth apparatus mentioned above, stable and dynamic liquid phase preparation was successfully achieved, ranging from seed crystals with a diameter of approximately 5 mm to single crystals with a diameter of approximately 20 mm, by controlling the cooling rate and adjusting the solution flow rate.

The blind quantum computation (BQC) protocol allows for privacy-preserving remote quantum computations. In this paper, we introduce a remote quantum error correction code preparation protocol for BQC using a cluster state and analyze its blindness in the measurement-based quantum computation model. Our protocol requires fewer quantum resources than previous methods, as it only needs weak coherent pulses, eliminating the need for quantum memory and limited quantum computing. The results of our theoretical analysis and simulations show that our protocol requires fewer quantum resources compared to non-coding methods with the same qubit error rate.

Diamond needs to have a perfectly smooth surface due to the growing requirements in the fields of electronic semiconductors, optical windows and high-fidelity loudspeakers. However, the polishing of diamonds is highly challenging due to their exceptional hardness and chemical stability. In this study, a new polishing slurry is prepared for the proposed photocatalysis-assisted chemical mechanical polishing (PCMP) approach to obtain an ultra-smooth surface for large-area diamond. The analyses and experimental findings revealed the significance of the photocatalyst, abrasive, electron capture agent and pH regulator as essential components of the PCMP slurry. TiO2 with a 5 nm pore size and P25 TiO2 possess improved photocatalysis efficiency. Moreover, diamond removal is smooth under the acidic environment of H3PO4 due to the high oxidation–reduction potential (ORP) of the slurry, and, during the methyl orange test, P25 TiO2 exhibits reasonable photocatalytic effects. Moreover, in 8 h, a smooth surface free of mechanical scratches can be obtained by reducing the surface roughness from Ra 33.6 nm to Ra 2.6 nm.

Four enantiomeric forms of natural prostaglandins, ent-PGF2α ((−)-1), ent-PGE2 ((+)-2) ent-PGF1α ((−)-3), and ent-PGE1 ((+)-4) have been synthetized in gram scale by Corey synthesis used in the prostaglandin plants of CHINOIN, Budapest. Chiral HPLC methods have been developed to separate the enantiomeric pairs. Enantiomers of natural prostaglandins can be used as analytical standards to verify the enantiopurity of synthetic prostaglandins, or as biomarkers to study oxidation processes in vivo.

A scheme for manufacturing heavy-duty rail grinding wheels with silicone-modified phenolic resin (SMPR) as a binder in the field of rail grinding is presented to improve the performance of grinding wheels. To optimize the heat resistance and mechanical performance of rail grinding wheels, an SMPR for industrial production of rail grinding wheels was prepared in a two-step reaction using methyl-trimethoxy-silane (MTMS) as the organosilicon modifier by guiding the occurrence of the transesterification and addition polymerization reactions. The effect of MTMS concentration on the performance of silicone-modified phenolic resin for application in rail grinding wheels was investigated. The molecular structure, thermal stability, bending strength, and impact strength values of the SMPR were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and mechanical property testing, and the effect of MTMS content on the resin properties was investigated. The results indicated that MTMS successfully improved the performance of the phenolic resin. The thermogravimetric weight loss temperature of the SMPR modified by MTMS with 40% phenol mass at 30% weight loss is 66% higher than that of common phenolic resin (UMPR), exhibiting the best thermal stability; in addition, its bending strength and impact strength were enhanced by approximately 14% and 6%, respectively, compared with those of common UMPR. This study utilized an innovative Bronsted acid as a catalyst and simplified several intermediate reactions in the conventional silicone-modified phenolic resin technology. This new investigation of the synthesis process decreases the manufacturing cost of the SMPR, liberates it from the restrictions of grinding applications, and enables the SMPR to maximize its performance in the rail grinding industry. This study serves as a reference for future work on resin binders for grinding wheels and the development of rail grinding wheel manufacturing technology.

Despite growing evidence of increased saturated and trans fat contents in street foods, little is known about their fatty acid (FA) compositions. This study aimed to analyse the saturated fatty acids (SFAs), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and trans fatty acids (TFAs) content of 70 selected and most commonly available street foods in Malaysia. The street foods were categorised into main meals, snacks, and desserts. TFAs were not detected in any of the street foods. Descriptively, all three categories mainly contained SFAs, followed by MUFAs, and PUFAs. However, the one-way ANOVA testing showed that the differences between each category were insignificant (p > 0.05), and each FA was not significantly different (p > 0.05) from one to another. Nearly half of the deep-fried street foods contained medium to high SFAs content (1.7 g/100 g–24.3 g/100 g), while the MUFAs were also high (32.0–44.4%). The Chi-square test of association showed that the type of preparation methods (low or high fat) used was significantly associated (p < 0.05) with the number of SFAs. These findings provide valuable information about fat composition in local street foods for the Malaysian Food Composition Database and highlight the urgency to improve nutritional composition.

Natural hydraulic lime (NHL) can be used as an inorganic cementitious material, as it exhibits low shrinkage, salt-alkali resistance, moderate strength, and good durability with cultural relics. There has been increasing interest in NHL, as it is considered an appropriate material for the restoration and reinforcement of architectural cultural relics. In this study, limestone and potassium feldspar were mixed and calcined at different ratios and high temperatures, and artificial hydraulic lime (HL) was produced. According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) results, the resulting products after high-temperature calcination were mainly composed of calcium oxide, dicalcium silicate (C2S), and dicalcium aluminosilicate (C2AS). As a compromise, when potassium feldspar accounted for 30% of the total mass, HL contains a more suitable air-hardening component and hydraulic component. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) analyses show that the phases of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and hydrated calcium silicate (C-S-H) gradually increased with prolonged curing time for HL. To study the partial mechanical properties and durability of HL, a comparison was made with NHL. The mechanical properties were investigated with the flexural and compressive strengths and shrinkage. The results show that HL has higher strength than NHL, but NHL has smaller shrinkage. Accelerated aging tests indicated that HL and NHL5 led to higher resistance to water immersion, fluctuations in temperature and humidity, sulphate decay, an alkali environment, and frost–thaw action than NHL2. HL has excellent mechanical properties and durability and can be considered a conservation material for stone relics in the future.

Oligosaccharides derived from natural resources are attracting increasing attention as both food and nutraceutical products because of their beneficial health effects and lack of toxicity. During the past few decades, many studies have focused on the potential health benefits of fucoidan. Recently, new interest has emerged in fucoidan, partially hydrolysed into fuco-oligosaccharides (FOSs) or low-molecular weight fucoidan, owing to their superior solubility and biological activities compared with fucoidan. There is considerable interest in their development for use in the functional food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. Therefore, this review summarises and discusses the preparation of FOSs from fucoidan using mild acid hydrolysis, enzymatic depolymerisation, and radical degradation methods, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of hydrolysis methods. Several purification steps performed to obtain FOSs (according to the latest reports) are also reviewed. Moreover, the biological activities of FOS that are beneficial to human health are summarised based on evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies, and the possible mechanisms for the prevention or treatment of various diseases are discussed.

Proper preparation and stability evaluation of the nanolubricant shall be established when applying the nanoparticle dispersion technique in a two-phase system. The stability of the nanolubricant ensures the maximum benefit gained from the dispersion of nanoparticles in specified Polyvinyl ether (PVE). In this study, TiO2/PVE nanolubricant was prepared using two methods of physical homogenization: high-speed homogenizer (HSH) and ultrasonication bath. The HSH used a preparation time of up to 300 s in the stability assessment. Meanwhile, the ultrasonication bath had a preparation time of 1, 3, 5, and 7 h. The stability condition of the nanolubricant was evaluated using photo capturing, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, zeta potential, and zeta sizer. A sample with 180 s of preparation time shows the best stability condition from HSH. The nanolubricant with ultrasonication offers excellent stability at 5 h of homogenizing time with a concentration ratio of more than 90% for up to 30 days of observation. In conclusion, ultrasonication homogenizing methods show better results than HSH with a zeta potential of more than 60 mV. In addition, HSH can be recommended as an optional method to produce nanolubricant with a low preparation time for immediate use.

Silicon carbide (SiC) materials are widely applied in the field of nuclear materials and semiconductor materials due to their excellent radiation resistance, thermal conductivity, oxidation resistance, and mechanical strength. The molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is an important method to study the properties, preparation, and performance of SiC materials. It has significant advantages at the atomic scale. The common potential functions for MD simulations of silicon carbide materials were summarized firstly based on extensive literatures. The key parameters, complexity, and application scope were compared and analyzed. Then, the MD simulation of SiC properties, preparation, and performance was comprehensively overviewed. The current studies of MD simulation methods and applications of SiC materials were systematically summarized. It was found that the Tersoff potential was the most widely applied potential function for the MD simulation of SiC materials. The construction of more accurate potential functions for special application fields was an important development trend of potential functions. In the MD simulation of SiC properties, the thermal properties and mechanical properties, including thermal conductivity, hardness, elastic modulus, etc., were mainly studied. The correlation between MD simulations of microscopic processes and the properties of macroscopic materials, as well as the methods for obtaining different property parameters, were summarized. In the MD simulation of SiC preparation, ion implantation, polishing, sputtering, deposition, crystal growth, amorphization, etc., were mainly studied. The chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and sintering methods commonly applied in the preparation of SiC nuclear materials were reported rarely and needed to be further studied. In the MD simulation of SiC performance, most of the present studies were related to SiC applications in the nuclear energy research. The irradiation damage simulation in the field of nuclear materials was studied most widely. It can be found that SiC materials in the field of nuclear materials study were a very important topic. Finally, the future perspective of MD simulation studies of SiC materials were given, and development suggestions were summarized. This paper is helpful for understanding and mastering the general method of computation material science aimed at the multi-level analysis. It also has a good reference value in the field of SiC material study and MD method study.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), with facile synthesis, unique structure, high stability, and low cost, has been the hotspot in the field of photocatalysis. However, the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4 is still unsatisfactory due to insufficient capture of visible light, low surface area, poor electronic conductivity, and fast recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Thus, different modification strategies have been developed to improve its performance. In this review, the properties and preparation methods of g-C3N4 are systematically introduced, and various modification approaches, including morphology control, elemental doping, heterojunction construction, and modification with nanomaterials, are discussed. Moreover, photocatalytic applications in energy and environmental sustainability are summarized, such as hydrogen generation, CO2 reduction, and degradation of contaminants in recent years. Finally, concluding remarks and perspectives on the challenges, and suggestions for exploiting g-C3N4-based photocatalysts are presented. This review will deepen the understanding of the state of the art of g-C3N4, including the fabrication, modification, and application in energy and environmental sustainability.

An important background to the liquid argon detectors is that they are caused by the diffusion of radioactive isotopes in a scintillator (liquid phase). This radioactive isotope is produced in argon’s surrounding devices, such as circulation pipelines and liquid argon containers. The solid argon as a scintillation material in the detector can inhibit the diffusion and drift of radioactive isotopes in a solid phase scintillator. Additionally, the structure of a solid argon detector is simple and reduces the total source of radioactive background. In the CDEX-300 detection system, solid argon could substitute for liquid argon as the veto detector, preventing radioactive isotopes drifting to the central main detector (HPGe detectors array) surface to reduce backgrounds. Therefore, solid argon has great potential in the experiments since it is especially helpful to get the lower background in a larger active volume than liquid argon required in those low background detection experiments. This work introduces the preparation process and device of the large volume transparent crystalline argon, the acquisition of scintillation light, and the pulse amplitude spectrum of 137Cs obtained from a prototype detector of transparent solid argon crystal. The results show that the scheme proposed in this study can successfully produce a large volume transparent crystalline argon detector, the scintillation light signals can be effectively obtained from the solid argon scintillator, and the corresponding pulse amplitude spectrum is given. This work indicates that it is feasible to develop a solid argon crystal scintillation detector by using our approach.

During the past decade, refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEA) have attracted great attention of scientists, engineers and scholars due to their excellent mechanical and functional properties. The W-containing RHEAs are favored by researchers because of their great application potential in aerospace, marine and nuclear equipment and other high-temperature, corrosive and irradiated fields. In this review, more than 150 W-containing RHEAs are summarized and compared. The preparation techniques, microstructure and mechanical properties of the W-containing RHEAs are systematically outlined. In addition, the functional properties of W-containing RHEAs, such as oxidation, corrosion, irradiation and wear resistance have been elaborated and analyzed. Finally, the key issues faced by the development of W-containing RHEAs in terms of design and fabrication techniques, strengthening and deformation mechanisms, and potential functional applications are proposed and discussed. Future directions for the investigation and application of W-containing RHEAs are also suggested. The present work provides useful guidance for the development, processing and application of W-containing RHEAs and the RHEA components.

In this study, a novel low molecular weight of acetylaminoglucan (AGA) was obtained and its antitumor activity on H22 tumor-bearing mice was investigated. The results of UV, HPLC and FT-IR showed that AGA present high purity with low molecular weight of 2.76 × 103 Da. Animal experiments showed that AGA could inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells in H22 tumor-bearing mice by protecting the immune organs, enhancing the phagocytosis ability of macrophages, killing activity of NK cells and proliferation capacity of lymphocytes, improving the levels of cytokines in vivo and regulating the distribution of lymphocyte subsets, and the tumor inhibition rate reached to 52.74% (50 mg/kg). Cell cycle determination further indicated that AGA could induce apoptosis of tumor cells and arrests it in S phase. These results will provide a data basis for the potential application of AGA in pharmaceutical industry.

A method has been developed for producing mixed actinide oxides suitable for fabricating mixed nitride uranium plutonium fuel for fast neutron reactors. The method is based on the use of microwave radiation for the direct denitration of actinide nitrate solutions. The possibility of producing uranium, plutonium, and neptunium-mixed oxides was shown. A pilot installation for preparing actinide oxides by microwave denitration was designed and tested. Mixed oxides of uranium and cerium (for plutonium imitation) were successfully used to synthesize uranium cerium nitrides and produce fuel pellets. Compared with the precipitation (ammonia) method of producing mixed oxides, microwave denitration reduces the generation of secondary liquid radioactive waste by more than six times.

As a new type of single element direct-bandgap semiconductor, black phosphorus (BP) shows many excellent characteristics due to its unique two-dimensional (2D) structure, which has great potential in the fields of optoelectronics, biology, sensing, information, and so on. In recent years, a series of physical and chemical methods have been developed to modify the surface of 2D BP to inhibit its contact with water and oxygen and improve the stability and physical properties of 2D BP. By doping and coating other materials, the stability of BP applied in the anode of a lithium-ion battery was improved. In this work, the preparation, passivation, and lithium-ion battery applications of two-dimensional black phosphorus are summarized and reviewed. Firstly, a variety of BP preparation methods are summarized. Secondly, starting from the environmental instability of BP, different passivation technologies are compared. Thirdly, the applications of BP in energy storage are introduced, especially the application of BP-based materials in lithium-ion batteries. Finally, based on preparation, surface functionalization, and lithium-ion battery of 2D BP, the current research status and possible future development direction are put forward.

We report herein the synthesis and antioxidant profile of nine novel heterobisnitrones (hBNs) as new α-phenyl-tert-butylnitrone (PBN) analogues. The synthesized hBNs 1–9 were evaluated for their antioxidant activity using different in vitro techniques, while they were also tested as inhibitors of soybean LOX, as an indication of their anti-inflammatory effect. Nitrone hBN9 is the most potent antioxidant presenting higher anti-lipid peroxidation and hydroxyl radicals scavenging activities as well as higher lipoxygenase inhibition. In silico calculations reveal that hBN9 follows Lipinski’s rule of five and that the molecule is able to penetrate theoretically the brain. All these results led us to propose hBN9 as a new potent antioxidant nitrone.

Amidst the new techniques facing the improvement of cooling and insulating efficiency and the design of electric transformers, constrained by the current technologies, one of the more promising is the substitution of traditional dielectric oils for nanofluids. Research on nanofluids for their application in transformers as a coolant and dielectric medium have been performed during the last two decades and continue today. This review tries to collect and analyze the available information in this field and to offer it already dissected to researchers, focusing on the preparation methods and how nanoparticles affect the main properties of the base fluids. Here we also addressed the influence of different parameters as particle characteristics or environmental conditions in nanofluids performance, the evolution with time of the measured properties, or the neighboring relationship of nanofluids with other transformer components. In this sense, the most reviewed articles reflect enhancements of thermal conductivity or dielectric strength, as well as an improvement of time evolution of these properties, with respect to those that are found in base fluids, and, also, a better interaction between these nanofluids and dielectric cellulosics. Thus, the use of dielectric nanofluids in transformers may allow these machines to work safer or over their design parameters, reducing the risk of failure of the electrical networks and enhancing their life expectancy. Nevertheless, these advantages will not be useful unless a proper stability of nanofluids is ensured, which is achieved in a small part of revised articles. A compendium of the preparation methodology with this aim is proposed, to be checked in future works.
