The article provides information on reducing the physical and psychological impact of scars. It is estimated that more than 30% of the Great Britain population has a scar or scars resulting from major or minor trauma, burns, surgery or illness. Steroid injections into the scar tissue may help to flatten and soften a keloid or hypertrophic scar with minimal side-effects. Interferon therapy has been reported to reduce keloid scarring but can have significant side-effects.
