Abstract

The article discusses the study which examines how the phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthetase (PrsA) variants can alter cellular pools of ribose 5-phosphate in Salmonella enterica. It notes that metabolism in bacterial cell consists of specialized and general biochemical process that integrates in metabolic network. It implies that mutant alleles with reduced activity in extracts can result to nutritional requirements that allow non-enzymic formation of PRA.
