The article discusses a study of the autoimmune system and the role it can play in behavioral abnormalities. It states that a growing number of psychiatric disorders can be related to physiological reasons, the best example being how antibody-mediatic limbic encephalitis can result in psychological changes. In such cases, autoantibodies affect neuronal functions, which in turn affect thinking and behavior. The study focuses on autoimmune encephalopathies, which include paraneoplastic disorders, nonparaneoplastic limbic encephalitis and others.
